What's going on?
What's going on?
Are we coming up with a new nickname for our new boy?
in town.
I saw you had something last night,
Hazie B, like savagery or something.
Oh, my God.
You're like the grappler already in the...
Oh, yeah, the next Randy Johnson.
Well, someone wrote me calling him
the macho man, Trey is Savage, and I like that.
I do think macho man works.
I think it works.
It's, well, you're playing off Savage, right?
You're playing off that, and he looked real good.
I was doing Jay last night,
and Jay brought this up.
Because I had kind of an eerie kind of experience because I was watching the game.
I was watching them pitch.
I had a crazy night at my house last night.
I'll tell you about it and how it's going to put me in a really bad place this weekend.
I'm watching the game and I'm kind of in the kitchen and I'm helping out my oldest daughter.
And I look over and I'm like, oh, Bryson Deschambo's at the game.
Like I caught his Savage's side profile.
He is a dead ringer for Bryson.
He looks identical to Bryson DeShambo.
And I don't know if you picked up on that.
I'm not sure how you couldn't because you're a big golf fan.
But I'm like, that's Bryson.
And maybe that could be his nickname.
Maybe he's Deschambo.
Maybe he goes by Bryson.
Maybe he's the macho man.
I got to be honest with you.
I didn't pick that up at all.
You just have no idea what I'm talking about.
I hate to dump on that little idea, but I didn't see that.
Well, then I don't think you know what you're talking about.
You don't think he's a doppelganger?
A doffle ganger for Deschambo.
Well, I don't want to put work on Joe from the bridge's plate, but there might be, if we
could get a still of both of them maybe
there's something we can tie there
yes you know i i don't
listen i know what the shamble looks like
because i love his social media so i'm always
watching his shots and stuff his trick shots
i didn't pick that up
either but then i'm in i i both of you have vision
sometimes you have just this vision
and you're the only person i'm not alone
it was it was jay that brought it up too
like it dawned on me and then jay
was doing something during a show last night
and something on
doppelgangers and he he mentioned it first he's like don't you think he looks like bryson i said absolutely he
does early bryson with the goofy hat like the early goofy hat bryson days okay okay now bryson is a little
thicker than him isn't he well he's now i can't get away from the facial hair like i don't remember
bryson with the facial you got to remove the facial hair clearly the facial hair there there you're
already starting him now you got to remove the facial hair yeah but just like if you everyone like one guy has a beard
you don't all look the same.
You know, ZZ Top isn't the same as Robert Redford back in the day, RIP.
Yes, RIP for Robert Redford.
But you know what I'm saying?
Just because you have a beard doesn't mean that everyone looks the same if they have a beard.
Like I get you Savage has facial here and Bryson doesn't, but you're idiots, man.
There's no other way to put it.
You're idiots.
But if those guys shave a beard and they've got a weasel chin or something
or like some sort of an ass chin, like it completely changes what the
face looks like. Look at the picture of you, Savage, on the screen right now. You're telling me that's not
Bryson. The way he's tilted his head kind of upwards a little bit. I can see, I can see the
head tilt. I'll give you that. I just, but again, I didn't even pay it, I didn't put two and two
together. Now you've got me thinking, I've got, I've got to look for it. But it wasn't like it's
his, like, complete doppelgay. It's not an exact doppelganger, but it's close. We got
John Schneider joining us in an hour. We'll ask Schneider. He's the deciding folks. Yes. He's
He's a big golfer.
He loves golf.
I will be willing to put a guarantee on this one.
I'll put a guarantee on it.
I'll present it to Schneider, and he'll say, absolutely.
First time I met him, I said that's Bryson DeShambo.
That's my guess.
Okay.
We'll ask him in an hour.
Listen, he was awesome.
Regardless, Bryson or not, look calm and cool.
How tall is he?
He looks lanky, like really long on the...
Big boy, funky delivery.
Yeah.
You know, got himself out of a jam in the first inning.
It's so cool to see.
the parents up there, his dad's crying when he's coming out of the game.
Yeah, that was awesome.
It's goofy that it's at a spring training facility.
Time out.
He does.
He's, I'm sorry.
He does.
Identical, right?
Yeah.
Well, not identical.
But he looks like Jason.
Yeah, the way he tilts his head and he looks and he's got that.
If you get rid of the facial hair, he could be like his somewhat of a twin brother.
Thank you.
See?
Thank you.
Talked him into it.
You talked them into it.
I mean, I just need to see their faces side by side.
We will.
And we can let the masses, it should be a poll question.
Okay.
They look like each other and see what people weigh in on.
All right.
We're jamming up, Joe, from the bridge.
I should have known that we were going to get to this.
I wasn't anticipating it two minutes into the show.
There it is.
Yeah, the profile, again, that's a newer, that's a live, Bryson.
You got to go back to like the rocket mortgage win in 2018 or something.
Oh, you're reaching, dude.
You got to go deep into the archives for Bryson.
both elite athletes.
Elite athletes.
How about we just start with there and what type of comparisons are you going to draw to this guy?
Like who does he pitch like?
Like what do you know, he seems like you said, a unique delivery.
That top to bottom slider, man, is sicko.
Crazy.
Yeah, he's, well, they were kind of comparing his delivery to Verlander, which again, that is a grappler stretch, right?
Like we can't be bringing up Verlander and Randy Johnson and all that kind of stuff.
He's made one major league start, but it was very, very impressive.
And again, they're going to have to find a way to get him on the playoff roster.
He's not currently eligible in order for that to be an option for them.
They're going to have to see, there you go, Joe.
That's rocket mortgage, you know, win back in 2018, 2019.
Yeah, I can see it.
That looks very, very similar.
There is.
There is some similarities.
I think it's the jaw line.
Yes, that's what it is.
That's exactly what it is.
But, yeah, to finish that thought, they're going to have.
have to, if they want to,
you know, I guess, you know, file,
what is it, it's not a complaint, like,
I'm not even sure how this whole thing works
in terms of the team, and they got to ask the commissioner
for permission, basically, to allow them to be a part of
the playoff roster. It's one start.
You don't want to put the car too far
before the horse, but really, this is why,
this is why you give them this opportunity. So maybe he gets
another start, or maybe you put him in the bullpen a couple
at times and he can accrues some innings
and you can get a feel on whether or not
he'll be comfortable in this situation.
Big Fish Daddy and closing it up too.
I love that action.
So do I.
So do I. Two innings he gave
him last night. And, you know, Hoffman
looked, Hoffman looked good.
It was a very well-pitched
game. And the Jay's found a way to come back
and win the ball game. Another come from
behind win. Yeah. Like it just
they're comfortable in that setting, right?
Like it's like they were not going to
panic. We're not going to mail it in.
like I felt eerily like comfortable going they can win this game like you know it was
one point game like you know one run game like to me I was like yeah they can win this for
absolutely they've proven that all year if they're within a couple of runs late in a game
then you have to give them the benefit of the doubt they've earned that this deep end
of the season and they did it again last night so now the magic number just continues to drop
the Yankees lost again last night there are a lot to make the playoffs like that
That is, we can be very confident in saying the Blue Jays are going to the playoffs.
Yeah, they're five up on the Yanks now.
Yeah, now it's like if they don't win the ALE East
and don't finish with a top two seed in the American League,
it would be a remarkable choke job.
Disappointing.
Yes, it would be remarkably disappointing.
Like, I don't even think they have to go 500 to rest of the way.
They got 12 games left.
I think they went three or four games they're in.
Like three or four, you're in.
You've won the division.
You're going to be a top two seed,
and you're going to sit there and wait for the divisional series.
And you have home field and you're going to avoid the whole wild card debacle,
which was an issue when they played Seattle and Minnesota.
And they got positive news.
That second opinion down in Dallas came up large for the Blue Jays today
because Boba Shett, the news came back that his knee is okay
and he just needs to rehab and give it a little bit of rest
and he could return hopefully for the beginning of the playoffs.
That's why you get that second opinion.
Maybe the other guy was like, take the rest of the year off, pal,
And they were like, no, we got to get a second opinion.
That's why you go get the second opinion.
And I am curious, do you send, like, what do you send back to the first opinion?
Like a middle finger emoji?
That's it.
What do you send back to the first opinion?
Depending on who it is.
Middle finger emoji.
Yeah, but I mean, if it's a team doctor just trying to do what's best,
and they're like, no, we're good.
We're going to send him to a specialist in Dallas.
You're like, oh, that's a tough one.
That guy's getting a middle finger.
I don't care who he is.
Team doctor.
I don't care if he works at a hospital in town.
That opinion is officially worthless.
We are going to be accepting the second opinion.
Hand in your doctor card.
You're a joke.
You're out.
You're out.
We're accepting the second opinion.
I don't know.
Where are we at with this NFL scores now?
I thought you guys were at...
Both picked winners last night.
Yeah, both picked winners.
And we were talking yesterday about, you know, the perception of
athletes. And I love Baker Mayfield so much. I love him. He is one of my favorite athletes.
And Cleveland's such a joke. Yeah. I know. Exactly. Cleveland's such a joke. Right. And of course
they cut him loose. And here's the truth. There were any team in the league could have had him.
Any team in the league. He had to back up. Remember he was in L.A. He was backing up. He was
looking for a job. He was just saying, I'm out. Like who was willing to accept me? And when you
look at all these teams in the league who can't
find a quarterback, Baker
was right there for you.
Pittsburgh could have. Orlovsky was saying,
if he keeps it going, it could be,
they all talk
crazy after two games, but MVP
type talk.
Through two, through two.
Listen, I did one of those
kind of bold prediction weeks
on Sports Center in the summer,
and one of them was, I think, Baker
finished his top three in the MVP.
And I don't,
Really? You said that earlier?
Go back and find the tape.
It's out there.
You were trying to catfish fans or something in the salary.
A cherry picker.
You were, but all of a sudden now, you're looking pretty good.
Now I feel great.
I feel great about the Bill's Super Bowl, Bill's Packers' Super Bowl.
I feel good about Baker and the Hunt.
I don't think he's not going to win the MVP, but they're 2 and O.
I think they're going to run away with the NFC South.
Again, the redemption story is always one that voters love.
and he plays tough.
Like Baker gets hit, man.
He got hit a lot last night.
And he looked like he got injured the one time,
and he popped right back up and was right in the guy's face, chirp.
He loves smack talking.
Now, I will say my son's favorite quarterback has had a nice start.
Justin Herbert.
Yes, he looks nice.
Coaching, coaching.
Harbaugh?
Harbaugh knows what he's doing.
He can't flame out, though, because that's what's happened in the past.
You're like, this guy's so good.
He's so, like, he's a big dude.
He can run, he can throw, he's got a hose, and then all of a sudden it goes south.
Yeah.
You're like, what happened to this guy?
Yeah.
Where is this guy?
I know, and that's the Chargers.
And listen, but he looked really good.
Like, Khalil Mack, that injury was gruesome last night.
That's concerning for the Chargers.
I didn't hear the latest on him, but I got a feeling he could be out maybe the whole season or certainly for a long time.
They lost their left tackle in camp.
And yet the Chargers, you know, 2 and O against divisional rivals,
that one on the road, and that was never in question.
And Harbaugh, that's it.
He's an eccentric guy.
He's a different cat.
You hear him talk, and you're like, I'm not quite certain where this guy's going
with a lot of the dialogue, but he is a brilliant football mind.
And wherever he goes, he wins.
He won in Stanford.
He won at San Francisco.
He won in Michigan, and he's going to win in L.A.
You know, I believe that.
I don't know if they don't want a Super Bowl, but they're going to go to the playoffs
a lot of times with Harbaugh as their coach.
And that's ultimately what you need in the NFL.
Modern-day NFL, you need a very good coach.
coach, and you need a very good quarterback.
If you start with those two, you're in the driver's seat.
There's the driver's seat comment for you.
Again, but that's what they got.
Harbaugh and Herbert.
I think you need both, though, right?
Yes.
You do need both.
And now he's got Harbaugh, just let's see what he can do.
But as I mentioned, Hays, he always seems to flame out and have that game where you're like,
Mahomes just dummies them.
And it's like, what were you doing, throwing it all over the place?
And it's like you're the chargers.
You're still the chargers.
Well, I don't know if they can get over that, man.
You have to find a way.
I mean, Herbert is a talented quarterback, and like you said, he's got all the tools.
At some point, don't you think when we talk about these highly skilled athletes, regardless
any sport, you're going, at some point, are they going to turn the corner?
Is this guy going to, you know, find that next level?
Is he give the light going to finally go on?
That's a list for you, Hayes.
Top five, you know, athletes that the light is going to go on this season.
That's a great one.
to go on well needs to go on or could like i think i'm doing my top 50 list
that can connor badard be in my top fifth i did the classic sneak-in number i put him
50 yeah which is such a gutless like i included him he was in my he was he was he was in there
i had him at 50 so i look at this and i go there there's all these uber talented i hear you guys
say that guy is unbelievable i just got to put it together all of that you look at all the
sports. Herbert might be a guy that should be on that list. You're like, okay, if this guy
could turn it on and the right coaching, you know, the right team around him, maybe he's a guy
that takes that next step to the next level. He's got everything you're looking for. Like he's
got, he's got mobility, he's got a rocket for an arm. He looks like an all-American, right? He's
got the hair. He's six, five. He's dating like a supermodel superstar. He's got it all
cooking. Yes. Like this guy, I don't know if you guys were back yet when we were talking about him
going on a date because he's dating Madison beers I think is her name isn't she like a
sideline reporter no Madison beer she she's a musician so she's an influencer and an artist
I don't know which one comes first but she's an influencer and an artist this guy was
buzzing around L.A. taking her out on a date he had a he had a leg sleeve on like a leg sleeve and
an arm sleeve going on a date in L.A. with Madison beer. Dude what are you talking about?
Was he like his sweats?
It must have been like a morning coffee walk or something.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
What Iverson used to wear.
Like what you see like basketball players wearing.
So you're telling me he had a bar tee jeans and a leg sleeve?
He was wearing like shorts and a t-shirt with a leg sleeve, one leg.
And I think he had an arm sleeve.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
But this guy was basically dressed like Alan Iverson.
And he's just cruising around L.A. with Madison.
beer on his arm. That's the guy
that is dialed in for the season.
If he's going on a date and he's thinking, I've got
to make sure my leg is in perfect
condition. There he is.
That's a morning coffee walk.
That's not a...
Why do you need a leg sleeve?
Because he's just left the gym and he picked up
donuts and stuff and that's why he's got that
stuff cooking. I don't know.
She's got a bottle of wine, dude. It's not that early
in the morning. That's a look right there.
That's a 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
Yeah. And he's
come from the field or whatever, and they, yeah, they're going to go for dinner or go for.
Yeah, B-Y-O-B.
They're going to like no boo or something, and she's like, I'll pick up a bottle of red,
and he's like, all right, I have my sleeve on, but let's go, let's go get after it.
Why not just wear both legs in the black tights or whatever?
Great question, noodles.
Or slip on a pair of pants.
Yes, put a pair of sweat.
Now, listen, here's me.
You can go joggers, too. You can go joggers, too.
You don't need to slip.
Listen, I'm not going to give that guy dating advice, and certainly not going to give me.
fashion advice but it is it's unique like maybe it's a conversation piece which is like hey
what's up with your leg oh i was you know doing some squats and it's tweaked it a little bit yeah maybe
well you think if you're a quarterback in the nfl ice breakers are not really an issue for you
that's right like if you're justin herbert i don't think you're too worried about breaking the
ice no with anyone let alone the girl you're currently dating but you could maybe you never know
maybe he's picking up points.
You know, maybe he's planting the seed for later.
He's a bad leg.
There's only so much I can do.
I don't know what he's up to.
Who knows?
Very handsome guy.
Yeah, Herbert was slinging it last night, and they're 2 and O.
and you look at the teams that are 0 and, you know, the Raiders aren't, but Houston is.
Like, that's the crazy thing.
I thought after last year, they would circle back and figure it out this year.
C.J. Stroud doesn't look that good.
Doesn't have a lot of weapons down there.
No, he doesn't.
I thought that guy was going to be like the next one, man, after his rookie year.
And by the way, what did you think of the chirping that Brady got?
I think it's goofy.
Dude, it is.
It's crazy.
Yeah, I think it's just as goofy.
I said it yesterday about the Indianapolis Colts owner,
and I think it's equally as goofy that Brady during the game is in the coach's box,
like listening and writing, taking down notes.
Well, especially when he's privy to stuff doing the pre-scout meetings with the opposition now.
They're allowing him in those meetings.
He looks like a healthy scratch.
She's sitting in there with a giant headphones on.
It looks like...
He does.
He looks like a healthy scratch.
He's a healthy, and he's up in his suit, which is so unnecessary.
And they gave him a clipboard and said, take, you know...
Yeah.
Like, I want to see Mark Davis up there doing that.
That's what I want to see.
Is Mark Davis up there with the headphones on not connected to anything and just looking around?
That's something I support.
The core just hanging out, like not even connected.
We need the top five owners, too.
Oh, yeah.
Steve Ballmer's got to be somewhere in there, too.
You put Steve Palmer on the sidelines?
I'll tell you what, Tom Brady and Mark Davis's co-owners has got to be the biggest juxtaposition.
It's outrageous, man.
Like, Tom Brady must look at that guy in an elevator if it's just the two of them going up there.
Just saying white shirt, white pants.
white leather belt and white shoes
with a Lloyd Christmas
haircut, like, what are you doing?
And he must look at Brady saying
I'm like not even, am I in the same
universe as this guy?
Like honestly, the idea
of the two of them walking into a room
together and there's just like
a gorgeous secretary waiting there for
and it's like there's Mark
Davis and there's Tom Brady.
And Davis is the boss. He's the majority
owner. He probably told
Brady, hey, get up there, kid.
Get up there.
You want to be an owner?
You want to be in the big time with me?
You got to get up there and watch the game from the coach's booth.
What a pair.
What a pair.
There's an icebreaker.
Who are you here with?
Mark Davis.
Tom Brady.
What a wing man.
Mark Davis.
A wing man.
All right.
John Snyder will join us in about 40 minutes after another big one last night.
Trey your Savage looked great.
What's the plan for him moving forward?
Bo Boshat got a very positive second opinion.
What's the plan for Bo going forward?
We'll get into that more with John in just over 40 minutes.
AEWs in London tomorrow.
They're in town on Saturday.
Big event down at Scotia Bank.
Adam Copeland will be in studio.
Big Leaf fan.
Get his take on the Leafs.
Right?
They're in camp starting tomorrow.
So we'll catch up with Adam.
We're looking forward to that.
Overdrive continues.
TSN 1050 and on the TSNF.
All right, big week for AEW.
And obviously we know you can watch it on TSN.
They're in London tomorrow.
If you can see on TSN, and then this weekend on Saturday,
AEW all out at Scotia Bank Arena on pay-per-view.
And Adam Copeland's in the house.
Great to see Adam. How you doing, man?
Good. How are you?
Good. This homecoming for you?
Yeah, yeah. I mean, anytime we can get up here, it feels good.
I was saying before, I got 20 Copeland's coming to the show Saturday.
That's always good.
That's always good.
You got to do, like, put that guy in a headlock or something
and just slam them against the desk or something.
Once we're off air.
Yeah, anything.
Or on air.
Or on air.
How often do people ask you to do that?
You'd be surprised.
Like, or, or, you're like, do an interview.
And it's like, so do a wrestling growl.
I'm like, what?
What?
I'm a trained monkey now?
Just go around growling?
Just growl out me, please.
So I think things have changed.
Yeah.
Where, you know, we're kind of understanding what it actually is that we do.
Well, I used to work with a guy, and they used to interview wrestlers and UFC fighters.
and they had a UFC fighter come in and put him in a chokehold on the air,
and he was choked out.
That's what happened.
Yeah, he was out.
And everyone was like, what were you expecting?
That wasn't the best idea.
I've seen that too with the guys like, hey, can you put me out a little bit?
And it's like, what happens if it goes wrong?
Right.
Well, also, there's no put me out a little bit.
Yes.
Or whatever they say.
It's either you're going out.
Yeah.
Or you're going to be awake.
I always wanted the cross-faced chicken wing to hand it out to somebody.
like that isn't that one of the more famous moves or is that not um not really but it's a good one
it's definitely a good one bob backland when he came back and was a crazy character there for a while
and right right well noodles the westerner right so noodles he used to where did you go watch wrestling
i grew up in like stampede wrestling with the hearts and like that's old school stuff right
so that was that and i wasn't in the house watching it like in the stadium watching it i'd
watch it on TV, Ed Waylon and all that.
That's kind of where I grew up watching a little bit of wrestling and kind of lost touch,
but it's nice to circle back and see a good Canadian boy that has dominated.
Absolutely. I grew up on Stampede, too.
So, you know, I just watched as many different things as I could get.
So we got, like, international wrestling in a Montreal.
There's Stampede out of Calgary, and then you had BC All-Star Wrestling out in Vancouver.
Right.
So I watched all of it.
That's awesome.
Adam Copeland.
And I know you're at WrestleMania 6, right?
Yeah, yeah, I was there with my mullet and my Hulkgirls tank top, man.
I was 11th row.
They actually were able to find pictures of it.
Really? Oh, you've seen pictures of you.
Yeah. Amazing. Because I remember I was there with my cousin.
Yeah, you were there. Oh, we've talked about it.
Isn't that crazy? It's such a connection for people in Toronto, I think, or Southern Ontario.
Alternate Warrior, right?
Absolutely. Warrior versus Hogan.
Yep.
Like, I went in rooting for Hogan, and then once I got there, I turned. I'm like, I think I'm for the warrior
bandwagon. A total bandwagon.
total bandwagon
but that was incredible man
and Andre the giant was on that card
and watching him walk around was like incredible
being there and just feeling
the electricity of that you know
it's cliche but you really could like
it just felt amazing
in the dome that day
and you know I was already hooked
anyway but I mean if there was ever
any doubt that was your inspiration
and I got to give this a real shot I'm doing
this right and you were you in radio
broadcasting at some point
you went to school for that i went to humber you went to humbers yeah yeah yeah there it is look at that mullet
that mullet now i i have a mullet again but it's a pseudo mullet compared to that thing that's like
legit and then look at my mom up to my shoulder on the other side bless her heart that's awesome
that's great yeah were you thinking about what do you think you would have done like top 40 you think you'd be
doing what we're doing talk radio or something like that in a different life or what truly the reason
I took it is because I thought it would help me with my wrestling promos.
Oh, yeah.
And it would help me with the mic, and it would help me with my timing, my inflection,
telling stories.
And it did.
It did.
And I also thought, okay, if I break something to the point where I can't do this,
then I have a fallback option.
But I really thought it would help me with, you know, just speaking.
That's a huge part of it, isn't it?
And it really is.
And it really became even that much more so as I started to get into the industry where it became
almost more important than what you did.
Like the storytelling and being able to work down, right?
Yeah, and just being able to be handed a microphone and go, okay, you've got nine minutes to fill.
Okay.
Is that how it works?
Like, more or less.
That's how it worked when I came in.
Nine minutes to fill.
I remember that because we were five minutes before Raw was about to go live and they said, okay, you got nine minutes.
Oh, right.
Like AEW, whatever it is, it's like, if they say nine minutes, that doesn't mean you can have 15.
No, that means you've got to come in on your time because now you're affecting everyone else on the show.
Right.
So, yeah, it's, but I love that part about it.
I love that you're live without a net, and you're just having to figure this out.
I've always kind of related it to stand up.
I mean, if your standup isn't hidden, if they're not picking up what you're putting down, then you better change it because El Paso isn't the same as Seattle.
So that audience is going to be different.
and you need to be able to pivot and ad lib accordingly.
It's tough to get them back in, though, once you start to be going out.
It is.
It is. It's possible.
I've seen great comedians where it's like, I can't get this back on the rails
and they just start making fart noises.
Start growling at people.
That works.
There's go.
Just growl.
Start growling.
But most comedians have like a go-to joke that they'll spin into that they know that kills, right?
They find some sort of, you know, semblance of a routine.
but Adam, were you always, you know, athletic?
Was that your first choice to be in wrestling or was you,
was in hockey or football?
So as a kid, it was kiss, it was the Maple Leafs, and it was wrestling.
And in no particular order.
I just loved hockey, but I also realized, you know, from a single parent family,
we couldn't afford it.
You know, we didn't have a car, so I couldn't.
That limits a lot of what you can do.
So pretty quickly I had to give up on that one,
but I realize that hockey equipment is more expensive than spandex.
Valid.
So, you can get those wrestling career.
Yeah.
Did you ever get to meet Kiss?
Because Noodles met Kiss, and who did you meet again, Noodles?
Gene Simmons several times.
And it didn't go well the one time.
Yeah, Gene was, yeah.
He was a creepazoid, unfortunately, and I was disappointed because, you know, you sometimes want to meet your idol,
and sometimes when you meet him, you're disappointed.
This one I was a little bit disappointed.
It's a long story.
I won't tell you, but he was.
creeping me out and the girl I was dating at the time too so it didn't go well well so I had all of my my
adolescent uh figures all I went and saw kiss with Hogan and so I met kiss while I was with
Hulk Hogan no way which for 10 year old me I'm just crazy I've still Lester Stallone walked in
that's it that's the trifle right throwing Daryl Sittler or something
Wendell Clark Wendell yeah yeah crazy nothing wrong I love
The seller.
It's great, too, but one is the guy.
One is my guy.
I'm with you there.
Adam Copeland with us.
So how does the Toronto market rank in terms of wrestling, in terms of excitement, knowledge,
you know, the crowd?
Like, there's a long history here in Toronto.
There really is.
There really is.
And our crowd always comes out full force.
Like Saturday, they're going to be nuts, you know, especially, you know,
you got me and Christian Cage, who I haven't teamed with in, like, 15 years,
we're going back and teaming again.
both local guys.
So that's super fun,
but the Toronto crowds always, they get it.
They know the assignment. They come to have fun.
That's the way it should be. We have so many guys, right?
Like the guys back there, they're probably more nervous to meet you than anyone else.
It will feel the way a lease game should.
Yeah. Like honestly, Margot Robbie could walk in and they'd be like, I'll go talk to Margot.
But you're in here, they're like, we can't do it. We can't talk to Adam.
There's no way.
A lot of grown up.
JP is fired up. J.P. is fired up.
Dugie and J.P. are just, yeah, nose is stuck against the glass.
Yeah, they're so jack that you're here.
Yeah, but my, my, uh, basically my demographic now is grown men and grandmothers.
Yeah, that's right.
Adam Copeland in town, A.E.W. Dynamite is in London tomorrow night.
And, uh, of course, AEW, all out is at Scotia Bank on Saturday. You can watch that on
pay-per-view. How are we feeling about the Leafs this year?
I think, you know, I said going into last season, I don't think the point totals are going to be there
as much in terms of just single point totals for each player.
But I thought they'd do better in the playoffs, and that's kind of what happened.
I think this year they're not going to be quite as, I don't know if they're going to be
number one seed.
Yeah.
They won the division last year.
They won the division.
It was a rarity for the leaves.
They never do that.
Yeah.
I don't think they're going to win the division maybe necessarily this year.
But I do think it's a tougher team now, and on paper, it looks like a far tougher team to
play in the playoffs.
so and it feels like you brought in guys that that are already playing a baroubae type game
so maybe there's not as much buy-in to have to worry about and and i feel like the rest of
the locker room has yeah you watch though if they don't score goals all the goal scoring nerds are
going to be like oh you got your baroube style but now they can't score no Mitch and they can't
put it in the net that's common oh it's absolutely coming like it just a lousy fan base at times
But there's no way around it.
I'm part of it.
But yeah, they're loved, right?
So with love comes hate, I guess.
But so I think they're going to do better in the playoffs.
I really do.
And I feel like, you know, Boston has now been put in the rear view.
Yes, they have.
I feel like Tampa has been put in the rear view, although they're still kind of there.
One team, man.
Florida, man.
Florida.
And then hopefully there's not, exactly.
They're still the same team.
But hopefully there's not a fallout or a dump after that.
Right.
And now you run up against Vegas.
or the avalanche and it's like they just steamroll you we'll take it though get to the cup final right
figure that out right right figure that out once you get to the cup final um yeah it's it's it's great
i mean camps open tomorrow yeah and you you were down there for playoff games and yeah and and it felt
it felt like a playoff amazing and it felt like a playoff atmosphere and i think part of that was
it was ottawa too but man it just it felt exciting that was there wasn't a lot of suits in
the bottom level yeah it was actual like leif's jersey
and funny how that happened right like it just it's a different there's you with joe bone and bonesie going into his final year call on leave games yeah it's incredible just an unbelievable career and uh yeah it's great man we got hockey back we got a e w in town you can't beat it
i mean it's it's pretty good week absolutely absolutely i'm slightly excited well uh good luck tomorrow night in london and then saturday a e w all out at scotia bank again you can watch it on pay-per-view great seeing you man thanks for doing this
Thanks, guys. Thanks for having me.
I always wanted to be on the show.
Absolutely. Anytime you want to come on, you come on, man.
The door's wide open. Absolutely.
There he is. Adam Copeland.
All right, guys, you can come in and meet them.
Come on in.
Everyone can come in and say hi now.
Pictures and handshakes.
All right, overdrive continues.
John Snyder coming up at 5.
TSN 1050 and on TSN4.
All right, Overdrive continues.
Powered by Fandul, bringing you everything from the opening line of the final score.
Joe from the bridge stormed down to catch up with Adam Copeland
and they're talking about the leaves out there.
He's never going to get out of here.
We're going to have no fountings or anything for the rest of the show
because JP didn't pull any wrestling moves?
JP, he came out in a luchador mask
and it freaked him out a little bit.
That wouldn't scare him at all.
That scared him a little bit.
That might end the relationship with TSN.
JP and a luchador mask.
But now it was great to see him.
and I just saw Craig. Craig Button's walking around.
Craig's here.
I saw Bruce Boudreel.
Like, hockey's in the air.
I'm sure you guys saw it today.
J.T. Miller, the new captain of the New York Rangers.
I thought that was strange.
I'm sorry.
You guys tell me.
Like that, they're just, I know.
You want the intensity noodles, but when he's behind the net yelling at guys,
like where to go and he's got a fiery side to him.
And it's just where is that going to go as far as leadership?
I do respect it because you're right.
He's a really good player, and he comes to play every night.
Like, he is an intense guy.
But it's not like he's been there 10 years.
They brought him in at the deadline.
Like, there's no long history.
Like, okay, this is the next in line for the captain.
It's like, okay, we need a captain, and you're the guy.
Like, I don't know what Adam Fox is like, but that, to me, it was like, okay, Fox has been there for a while.
But I think they were so tired of the soft and the soft and the skill.
And it's like, we need to have one guy that's going to lead the charge.
And at least the one thing you can say about the guy, he's going to bring it most nights.
He might go over the edge a little bit sometimes, but at least he brings it.
Yeah, that's it.
I think that's basically what they're saying.
Like his DNA is what they're looking for.
You know, they're looking for intensity.
And my angle is always about the Vancouver side of things, where Elias Patterson looks like the complete opposite of J.T. Miller.
Like just he is.
He is.
I've never heard him raise his voice.
I've never seen a play with intense.
Yeah, exactly.
And obviously that was like such a massive story last year,
that the two of them and how public it got
and it got to the point where Miller just had to go.
And he gets to New York.
And it's kind of like the Dionne Funnows scenario where that's,
you know, Dion I don't think it was pushed out of Calgary.
I don't believe that was what happened.
But remember when Dion showed up in Toronto was like,
that's the guy.
This is who we've been looking for.
Big personality.
Exactly.
Walks right in.
I got the music on.
We're going out.
We're doing this.
we're doing that, we're going for dinners, and that's J.T. Miller.
You know, Miller just walked in there and made an impression immediately.
Well, you know what?
It's a quick turn, though, for the Rangers to move to him.
It is, you're right.
The one thing is he can't hide who he is, which is a big personality, a strong personality.
And when you look at how that team is constructed, Zabanajad is quiet guy, DJ, you know, really laid back Panarin.
You know, not a big personality.
Funny, well-liked, but, you know, seems like a quiet dressing room.
That's the one thing I did hear from, you know, people that are close to the organization.
That dressing room, you could hear a pin drop.
So maybe Miller comes in, he's a disruptor.
You know, I think the one thing they did, you know, Trubel was a good leader there.
Like, they do miss a big hardened guy like that.
Man, they couldn't wait to get rid of that guy.
They could say, ran him out of town.
Just ran him out of town.
And listen, there was times he didn't play well.
I get it.
Like, you have to look at the product on the ice,
not just the person being a good guy and all of that type of stuff.
But, man, they made some moves where I don't know if their team is better.
Like, you know, like, Truba had to go.
Who else had to go?
Crider.
Conrader Miller, they moved off.
Like, they moved off some guys where you're like.
They moved off some stiffness is what they moved off of, man.
Like, Keandre Miller, Crider, Trubah.
It's like, yeah, let's see what you got, fellas, because the other guys never showed up in the big moments.
So what are you going to do now?
Yeah.
That's a fascinating team for me.
There's a couple.
Adam said he thinks Boston is, you know, I don't.
I think Boston might have a resurgence, to be honest.
To what extent?
And at the expense of who, in the Atlantic?
I don't know.
Resurgence?
I think Boston is going to be pushing for a playoff spot this year.
like that's the thing i the atlantic is going to be a problem for a lot of people because i don't
think there's listen buffalo is probably the worst team in the atlantic but if they end up
having a good season you never know they might take points off of people i did it's a separate
conversation well but it's an important one though because you're you're i mean the rangers
are in the metro and it's obviously they missed the playoffs though last year right but i i you look
at it as shisterc didn't have a great season fox didn't have a good season's a bandage ad like
Their top players had down seasons.
Are they going to have two down seasons in a row or they're going to get their act together?
That's a fascinating case study for me.
Vancouver is one and Boston is the other.
Well, Boston, like, Swayman just never got it together.
It just never happened for him.
And he's much better than the way he played last year.
Maxiboy was hurt.
Yes, and Lynn Home was hurt.
And Lynn Home was hurt.
So those are two of your top four defensemen.
And, you know, up the middle of the ice, they had issues.
the thing is they invested in, they just
seem to invest in the wrong guys.
Like, Pasternak is a lock every single year
for 50 goals
plus and 100 points. Who's dishing it to them this year, man?
I don't have an answer. That's
the thing. I look at their, who scores
in Boston? Who is outside of
Pastanak? Yeah, exactly.
That's where I struggled to see it.
I love McAvoy.
I think Swayman will be better,
clearly. But who
is scoring goals in Boston?
And if they're going in, then
who's coming out, Ottawa, Montreal,
you know, Toronto, Tampa,
I don't know.
He just asked the best question,
who is putting the puck in the net for those guys?
Yeah, I mean, Morgan, Giecky had what?
What did he have last year?
What did Giki have?
He had a career year.
And again, Pasternak is going to do it every single year.
Yeah.
It doesn't really matter who he's playing with.
He's going to score, but.
I think you're right.
But, like, listen, all I'm saying is that there's not a,
the Atlantic seems to be bunched up again.
And I still believe it's going to be five from the Atlantic and three from the metro.
But the Rangers could probably make things very difficult if they have a good season.
You know, Vancouver.
You know, Boston, I think, is a team that if they get health, they're better than what they showed.
They bottomed out last year, obviously.
I just, I think it's going to be wildly fascinating to see, you know, who has good seasons.
At some point, we just, we talked about it earlier.
like does Buffalo put it together
I'll believe it when I see it
I can't entertain it
I can't even have the
that's one I'm willing to just be shocked by
and say I didn't see that coming
as opposed to being bold and trying to predict it
which is fair because they haven't
for 14 years
and Detroit's the same thing
noodles I don't think Detroit's a playoff team
no I don't see I don't see Detroit or Buffalo
well they got the goaltender from
Anaheim but is that going to put them over the top
yeah he's been
what's he does he
done in Anaheim the last five years. Nothing. I have no idea. He's been rumored to be
betrayed for 10. Right. Yeah. No, listen, again, they have to prove
everybody wrong. They are going to earn their preseason rankings because of what
we've seen in the past. What I'm saying is if there's another level for some of the young
guys in Buffalo, if Detroit, again, puts stuff together, gets health, gets
goaltending, you know, they are, these teams aren't, they're not like last place in the league.
my point. That's the interesting thing
is it'll be
there's no... Could they be though? That's the thing.
I hear you. They're probably not
but like last year Boston was real
close to it. But they bottomed out.
They shut everybody down. Because of the injuries and they traded
guys. They moved off coil.
They moved off obviously Brad Marchand.
Right. But you know
they moved off Brandon Carlo and others
but I don't know. I look up the middle
of the ice sir. I just I don't know
who's supplying offense outside of
Pasenac. Geeky had 33 goals and 50.
seven points.
Like, this was a massive discrepancy.
Passanac had 43 goals, 106 points, and Geeky was second in points with 57.
Yeah.
Like, that's, that's...
I think it's tough to judge, though, on last year.
No, I understand that, but, again, I'm not...
Is Geeky going to even replicate that?
I don't know.
I just, I look at Boston.
I don't have them in the playoffs.
I guess that's what I'm saying.
I don't think they're in the playoffs.
And if they get in, I think what Adam was saying was like, we're talking,
a playoff, you know, daunting task to beat them.
If they get in, they would, it would scream wildcard to me, and they would not scare me.
Again, subject to change once the season starts, obviously.
They're in that place, the Bruins, where it's like, you're going to get in, but what exactly are you getting in for?
Well, you might just get crushed.
And that's what you're right.
So, you're all in last year.
It goes to say, like, why are you getting in?
And it's that middle area in pro sports where it's like, you're not good enough to,
you know, to go deep, but you're just good enough to get in or just miss and not get a lottery
and get crushed in the first round. So what the hell are you doing?
I just, I think, like, none of those teams in the Atlantic are rebuilding anymore.
So it'll be interesting to see how much they've, how far they've come.
Jamie, nobody's rebuilding anymore. Everybody's good, remember?
Pittsburgh should. And San Jose is trying to turn and Chicago, all of those.
The teams that were in the last place last year are trying to get out.
But someone has to be in last place.
Like that's a, I get it.
You're not, you're not planning on it, but someone is going to be.
Yeah.
Someone is, you know.
I don't see Boston as a last place team.
That's my point.
I probably wouldn't put them there either.
Right.
That's where, that's my, that was my only comment was that the Atlantic is going to be, again, the toughest division in hockey.
It is, and that's, for me, that's, that's the, there is no team that is in a rebuild.
There's teams that have been poor, and, and we put them where they, you know, where we
think they're going to be. The Buffalo and Detroit have earned that. Boston, I think, is a team
that bottomed out last year with injuries and inconsistencies and all of that. That's all I said.
It was a fascinating case study for me. Some teams don't tell people that they're rebuilding, Jamie.
They just play like it. Well, that's true. We've been, yeah, they're like, oh, we're going to make
the playoffs this year. Oh, you are this year? Okay. And then they go out there and they play like the
worst team in the league. Yeah, exactly. Why tell people that you are?
Why would Philadelphia is not doing anything.
No, that's in the metro, though.
No, I know, but I'm just saying.
Like, Philly, Pittsburgh, the Islanders, what are they with Patrick Waugh and no Lou anymore?
I don't know exactly what they think they're going to be.
And again, that's...
Trade at Dobson, which was unique, you know?
Like, that Dobson's a good player.
Like, you know, Montreal got a hell of a player there.
They did.
Like, that was kind of a sneaky move along all of this.
you know no adoptsin to montreal to add to that that group like right what i think canada playing
in canada will give him that little bit of zip because he's kind of not that he's mild mannered
but he can be a little bit quiet at times like if you can get that kind of umph to him jamie yeah i think
he'll be all like he'll be a real stud because he can shoot it he can move it he can play the point
and the power play i don't know who's going to be if there's enough puck out there for him
and lansson yeah well that guy
Gully's a hell of a player, too.
He is awesome.
I love that guy.
He plays in all situations, tough, can shoot it.
I love him, too.
You've got to stay healthy.
He seems to be hurt a lot.
But, yes, you're right.
Like, the haves are in a good place.
Like, the haves, they got Damadov for a full season.
I think another year of Ottawa, we'll see if they get better, can build off of that.
If the goalie can stay healthy, like there's, like, there's lots of storylines.
We haven't even dove in, really, to the hockey yet.
We'll have to, you know, get into it as an approach.
because it's game on, what, tomorrow, right?
Or the next day?
Well, they're all in camp as of tomorrow.
And by the weekend, though, they're playing games.
Playing games.
It happens very, very quickly.
You have, like, two days of skates, and then it's go time.
You already threw all the rookie camps and, you know, whatever.
Like, there's some interesting plays with rookies, you know,
playing in the rookie camp, even though you kind of know they're going to play on the team.
I don't like it.
Like, if I'm Demit off, I'm like, you really want me to play in this rookie game?
Right.
I would like the nod.
to say, you know, you don't have that much experience, but we like you enough as a player
and everybody kind of thinks you're a stud, so maybe you don't need to go to the rookie camp.
That's my only point about him, or players like that.
You really need him dancing around.
I mean, it was great for the fans, but...
That's what it was, ultimately.
Maybe it was a little nugget for the fans where it's like, okay, here's your Demadoff,
watch the dangle.
You know, it's great, though, oh, until somebody goes knee-on-knee with him.
We saw that last year.
Didn't that Paray kid?
Well, that was with Patrick Linae, yeah.
Exactly.
Like, that's the stuff there, you're like,
there's a fine line between letting somebody play
and then being concerned about, you know,
somebody who's not going to play in the league hitting them.
There were some pretty good fights in that rookie camp.
There was.
There was some pretty good tilts.
Because that's where you see fights.
Like, the rookies are trying to really,
you're trying to stand out.
You know, the vets, once you get to camp,
they're not looking to fight.
But the rookies who are trying to make an impact
and make the Marleys or Leval or whatever,
they're out there looking for fights
and there were two or three that were like
man they were speedbagging
they were like good good tilts
