How's the Dynasty going
Man?
Luke Wilson
We're even
What are you talking about?
Yeah yeah
Remember there at plus two
With the worst beat ever
These guys
These guys thought the Lions, the Ravens were going to cover four and a half.
Might be the worst pick I've ever seen.
Well, that's untrue.
It might be the worst.
That's untrue.
Rams against the Super Bowl winning Eagles.
Easily worst pick.
Oh, yeah.
Century.
Minimum century.
But listen, I came on on Tuesday and issued a full apology to Detroit.
I thought that was mightily impressive.
Yeah.
Like, they went in there and beat up Baltimore.
Beat up.
That's what I was impressed with.
Like, Goff made some nice plays.
Obviously, Montgomery had a couple of break-loose runs.
St. Brown was really good.
But I thought in the trenches, man, they just went in there and smacked around the Ravens.
And that's what you expect out of Dan Campbell the last two or three years.
Totally.
And the Ravens were obviously missing their big star there, Maddabouquet, and the inside.
But you've got to tip your cap to Detroit.
I mean, that was a beat down.
And again, I think week two and week three are a lot more of what we expected.
I really believe that that week one was one of those, hey, we play.
played Green Bay. It was a tough situation.
You went to Lambo. Micah, the buzz.
Green Bay is a very, very good football team.
We got behind early.
You know, kind of a perfect storm.
You got to put, I mean, you got to put
Detroit right back in that conversation up there.
Yeah, they look good, man. They look really,
really good to their credit. And they went
for it. Like, again, fourth and two,
they're like, we're closing the deal. Right now.
That's exactly it. That's just their identity
at this point, right? That's what he should do.
Aiden Hutchison with the big force fumble, too.
Where are you at with Derek Henry?
like it's Derek Henry that's three fumbles and three games and two of them have cost his team the game
agreed agreed I'm still like he's he's a goat man I'm not I'm not rewriting his history I'm just suggesting are we looking
because you never know when that cliff has arrived no because physically he's still he's still got it
you know you watch him run the football he's still rumbling like he's still ripping around
the ball security thing is a problem but it's a fixable problem okay
We're still there.
I was just going to say, how's it a fixable problem?
I think some of it, like, when we were talking about false security.
This was not a good look either, man.
He blew a wheel trying to sit down on the bench.
Those benches are weird, man.
They have little heaters where you put your feet.
They're slippery down there.
It looks a little lower, too.
They should have mutant benches.
Not normal benches for people that are eight feet tall.
That's the problem.
You're right.
Who's your biggest surprise right now?
Good or bad?
Good.
Got to be the Colts.
He's not of the 49ers?
No, I'll tell you, the 49ers for me, and he was with me.
My rookie year was Robert Sala, and then I played against his defenses in Sam Fran
before he went to the Jets, obviously.
He is, like, I think he might be the best defensive coordinator in the league, and guys' rallies.
So I expected that team to be wildly well coach, and they've won three really tight games.
You know, so I, again, am I shocked their 3-0-no?
With Nick Bowsout, it's going to be much harder to keep this going.
but to take
RIP Danny Dimes
and transform this man into Indiana Jones
they've punted one time in three games
Yeah, they're speedbagging team
And I understand they haven't had the hardest schedule
But you would have put before the year
Like you circle the Colts to also be one of those teams
That would fall under like very weak
Dude, imagine like going back in time
When Stuyken said that we're going Danny Dimes
And it's not just for one week
Like he's our guy
And the outrage that we all had about that
To, like, proclaim that, and now he looks like a genius.
In Indiana Jones right now, it's three games, I'm not going to overreact,
but right now he looks like a top 10 guy.
What about Herbert?
Sick, it looks sick.
That's my son's guy.
Not my guy, that's my son's sick.
Now, you'd expect that out of Herbert.
Indiana Jones, I mean, no one saw this coming.
And I think it was Kevin O'Connell that said this,
and he's like, oftentimes in this league,
an organization fails a quarterback before quarterback fails an organization.
And, you know, you look at Danny Dimes, and it's like, he got drafted to the Giants.
You know, it's kind of like getting drafted to the Jets or getting drafted to the Browns.
Prior to Matthew Stafford, it was getting drafted to the Lions.
Yep.
You know, it's Arnold and Baker, man.
Yeah, Baker to the Browns is a prime example.
Baker is the top 10 guy in this league every day of the week.
He's been incredible.
And it's like the Browns had him.
He won a playoff game for them against Pittsburgh Steelers, a division rival.
And a year later, he had a mediocre season.
It wasn't even a bad year.
And they're like, no, we want to Sean Watson.
You know what it reminds me of?
Like, if you relate it back to hockey,
there's times where a goalie playing really well in the minors gets called up,
and first couple games, it's lights out.
And then he's working with the different goalie coach,
different routines, different philosophy, whatever.
You're like, eh, it fell off a little bit, right?
And I think it's similar to a quarterback in that situation
where you go to the Giants and it just, it doesn't, you know,
It works for a bet, right?
You sign your big ticket, but after a while you get immersed there, it falls off a cliff.
Now you're somewhere else, different philosophy, different voice.
All of a sudden, that talent that you had, back out.
Yeah, right?
Like, I find those two positions.
There's some similarities in that regard.
Thousand percent.
Again, it's, you get put in the right situation.
Sam Darnold's another guy, you know.
This guy was out of the league pretty much, and it's gone from there to,
spends a year with Kevin O'Connell is now paid.
They're two and one right now, and my boys would be.
put a beat down tonight. A beat down tonight. A beat down tonight. I'm getting Matt Flynn
vibes out of this. Really? Oh yeah. Matt Flynn was the same thing. You had one great week as a
Packer. Seahawks gave him a fortune. One great, Sam had one great week last year.
Yeah, he had more than that. But how did he finish? It was horrendous. I'm not denying that.
But yeah, we'll get to that game momentarily. But you're right, though. You're absolutely the right
about quarterbacks. And that applies to everyone, man. Like where you get drafted is a big
big part of what your whole journey is going to look like.
Totally.
Like, you've got to be in the right spot.
Unless you're just so spectacular.
Like, nothing can stop you.
Yeah, I mean, everyone's got talent who gets drafted.
Like, when you got a draft, like, did you
have an inkling of, you knew
where you were going, or no, you had no idea?
If you would have asked me to rank
the teams of who I would have went to,
Seattle probably would have been 32
of 32. When I got called,
it was like, tricked you.
Like, they had came in,
they had came and worked out myself,
Vince McDonald and another guy who was a tight end
named Taylor Cook who was a quarterback
in Miami and transferred a rice who moved him a tight end
and Vance ended up being a second round pick
and the coach who came down there
treated me like absolute
trash that whole workout
was all over me, just ignorant
lines and I'm like I remember call my agent
afterwards being like, dude that was the
worst workout like this guy had it out for me
there's no way
and he was like really like what happened I'm like
I don't know
like honestly I shut up and he was just on me
Like, I don't know what I did.
You were Alejandro Kirk running to first day.
And then on draft day, when I got the call, you know, it's your GM, then Pete Carroll comes on.
And then he comes on, he's like, tricked you, man.
That's great.
Yeah, true story.
Well, it worked out well for you, clearly.
I mean, that obviously was a good one to pick.
No question.
In the end, it's Seattle.
And, you know, you look at quarterbacking in desperate situations, and it's a perfect segue into Jackson Dart and the giant.
because this just screams dysfunction.
I'm glad you brought this up, because this is where my hand goes with this thing.
I don't hate the idea of Jackson Dart starting.
To me, it's a judgment on how mentally strong he is, and if he can handle failure.
Whether it's this week, which I think it will be, or down the road, he's a rookie quarterback,
he's going to make mistakes.
I always point to Peyton Manning.
I believe Peyton Manning had 28 interceptions his rookie year.
Certainly, we don't talk about Peyton Manning.
Manning's rookie year very often.
You know, he's arguably one of the best guy to ever play it.
There's debates on that.
You know, so I look at Peyton and I say, hey, like, he can handle it.
There are certain guys that can handle failing in their rookie year.
Is Jackson Dart one of them?
I mean, time will tell.
But where I get really bamboozled with this whole thing is, to me, Brian Dable is on the hottest hot seat.
Now, I'm not in their front office, but you've got to think that he's on the hot seat to some degree.
you've got to think that he had some, you know, fingerprint on bringing Russ in.
I think they're paying them $10 million, which I know is not a huge number for a quarterback,
but it's still $10 million.
And I wonder to myself, does Daible really think that,
and I think it doesn't matter if it's James or Dart, they're going to lose the Chargers.
But does Dart really give him a better shot at upsetting than James Winston?
That's why I think it's dysfunctional.
Something is off here.
And here's the thing.
Like, Peyton's rookie season was horrendous, but they committed to him from day one.
They said, you're starting.
You're playing.
Yes. You're our guy.
And we're in it together, and we know it's going to be awful.
And I think they went like 1 in 15 that year.
And it was accepted.
This is a panic move.
You're 0 and 3.
Teams horrendous.
The season's over.
The Giants are done.
And they know it.
So why throw Dart in now as opposed to like, I would have said, Russ, you're in or James
Winston.
We're not going to subject Darry.
to this. We'll give you a start at the end of the
year so you get your feet wet. That's
the play. Week 15, week 16, you're
going to play. You're going to get an opportunity.
Next year, you're our guy. We show up at
camp and you're our number one guy. This is just
so desperate. It's what awful teams
do. This is what awful
organization is. This screams,
I have to justify why
I'm here because right now there's a pretty bad
odor around Dable based on what Danny
Dimes is doing in Indianapolis.
And so now makes it 20
X worse. A million things. Exactly.
And now, if you're dable, you probably look at it and say, we're terrible.
I'm not going to squeeze anything out of Russ.
But if I could wrap my tentacles around this kid being a pleasant surprise, I probably have a job next year.
And you know what?
If it doesn't go well, who cares?
You're gone anyways.
Your time's up.
That's where I read as well.
Is there any chance this kid comes in and is okay?
And like you say, you're selling hope.
You're going, hey, there's the future.
We're not making it.
We're not, but...
I doubt it with the cast of characters they have down there.
Like, they got neighbors, and what else do the Giants have?
Not much.
Not much.
What do they have?
I love this guy, and he's been fun to watch, but, like, Scada...
Scada bow?
Yeah, but that's...
He's a rookie.
I mean, he's a fifth round running back rookie.
Like, it's not like you're rolling out Sequant, even though they let him walk.
Yeah.
I'll tell you what scares me sometimes, and you guys will laugh at this.
And I don't know if we can find this and put it up here.
But Eli Manning did something the other day, talking about giving his cell phone to Jackson Dart.
and he was like, hey, man, call me if you ever need anything.
And he was like, Jackson called me
and asked her a restaurant reservation in New York.
And Eli was like, yeah, that's not.
That's not.
Not what I was thinking of it.
Can you hook me up at no-bo?
I don't know. Yeah, exactly.
You got to hook up at no-bo or no.
Any advice, no-nothing.
And like, when I hear these things, as an ex-guy,
I'm just like, oh, my.
God, like, this isn't good.
You know, when Eli gets that call from Jackson Dart, it should be like, hey, this isn't
the old miss, this isn't the SEC.
Like, can you help me explain how you would handle said defense or this defensive friend
or whatever?
But let me ask you this.
Like, you know, Russ, would Russ be the type of guy to reach out to this kid and offer
that same lifeline that Eli offers?
Like, hey, man, like you're a young kid.
Like, I've been around a long time.
You ever knew anything?
Let me know.
Yeah, he would be.
He would be.
Even though they're competing for a job right now?
Yeah, I mean, I remember...
Makes it awkward.
Again...
But, dude, Russ is like one field.
I get it, but Russ wants to play.
Only one quarterback can play.
Totally.
But I do think Russ...
I mean, I don't think Russ has kind of the like
X and O knowledge that Eli would.
Like, they play the game very differently.
Russ's a little more of a playmaker,
scramble around.
Eli's going to be a lot more analytical.
But I don't think Russ is the type of guy
to, like, withhold information to try,
I know he's not.
Let's put it that way.
There are people, like, I obviously being, I had a goalie partner, right?
So, you know, I always felt there was only one tandem in my whole career
where I felt like the guy had a voodoo doll of me on the bench.
Get injured or lose or stink.
Just staring lasers.
Everyone else was, like, very supportive.
So if Russ is a good pro, you're right.
He doesn't have to give him X's and O's, but you can give tricks to the trade.
You can be supportive.
Totally.
You know, Dart can look over.
and go, this guy's there for me.
Russ has got a zillion dollars in the bank.
He's had a great career.
He's done it all.
But why not hand some of that knowledge or support to a young kid?
It also helps Russ stick around longer.
If you like the NFL life and you don't want to be like away from the facility and doing something else,
teams will look at it and say, you know what, we got a young quarterback.
Let's bring in Russ.
Russ is great with young guys.
But if he's not, no one's going to do that.
And once they've milked you for all your worth, that's it.
You got nothing else to offer.
I'll tell you this, too, and Richard Sherman said this one year,
and I was like, and now Sherman at this point was like the guy.
He was like the premier corner in the league.
But somebody asked him this question.
He's like, I try and give the rookies and youngsters everything that I know.
If they want to, you know, understand it all, I will be the first guy.
He goes, one, it's kind of like one of those things where when you teach something,
you get better at it, you know, you practice your reps.
He said, but two straight up, the better they are,
the more it's going to push me to be better.
The end of the day, if this kid's better to me, he deserves a place.
play. But I'm coming into training camp,
letting everybody know that nobody on this team
is better at me to corner. I don't care how much
they know about playing corner. And I remember
being like, the elite guys just
know, like, in their head, hey,
you can know as much as I
know, but like you can't play
like I play. I feel better. Yeah, so
that was something I remember when he said that to the team.
I'm like, damn, must be nice.
But Sherman, he had a little bit
of chip, too. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Absolutely. Ask Aaron Andrews about that.
Well, I was just to say, is that the famous Aaron
Andrews?
screaming at her, like, after the Niners win.
After that win, I remember being in the locker.
You don't know, right?
Because you're not, we don't know what happened in the post-game interview.
We're all celebrating.
And it was probably like 20 minutes later.
Everyone's like, yo, did you hear what you said?
And like, Sherm's like, like, Cherm, what did you say?
He's like, check it out, I bet it's online.
We're the last guys to find out.
We're celebrating the NFC championship.
That's the new world.
Check it out.
It's trending on Twitter.
right now and he knows it
yes and to see like how angry
he was in that moment and then to see
like we're all celebrating like on the
top of the world at this moment
it's like so funny like when you know the guy
and you know that he's not like
he's one of the most loved guys in the locker room
and just like I remember
like falling over in my locker
like you gotta be kidding me
that's amazing yeah was that
was that the championship championship
when he had the tip against Crabtree
yeah it was Crabtree was going at
do you try me and
That's what you get.
That's what you're going to get.
Don't come at me with a receiver like Crabtree.
I will say, Andrews handled it unbelievable.
Like, that was, you got a guy just yelling and screaming.
You got to keep that mic up.
The one thing about that play that I always think about,
and like, you've loved to, you know,
and people don't like talking about bad plays that often.
But Shirm has said, and I think they've got a miced-up thing of him in this game,
no one targeted him.
In those years, you'd come into games and they'd be like, hey, wherever Richard Sherman is.
And he didn't travel.
We're not throwing over there.
We are not throwing in Sherm's direction.
We played cover three, so he's going to be the deep guy.
Maybe there's a slant or something underneath.
But you're not throwing 50-50 balls against Sherm.
Never.
So Sherm says on the bench, he's like, I think they're going to try me.
Like, I think he hadn't been targeted at all games.
He's like, I'm telling you, they're going to come after me.
Imagine like Kaepernick being down there.
They're down four or whatever it was.
They're driving the field.
They're at R-20.
And I think it was, I don't quote me on this,
but I think it was second down.
Like, it wasn't fourth and ten.
And being like, you know what I'm going to do?
I'm going to take a shot at Sherman.
Like, you know, hey, trip to the Super Bowl's on the line.
Like, I'm going to take a shot at Dionne Sanders.
That's the best play for me here.
Oh, I got Sherim over there one-on-one.
And like, so I know, obviously, not everyone loved the interview.
But in my head, I'm like, he's not wrong.
Like, if you're going to, when the game is on the line, if you're going to take a one-on-one shot when he's got a deep third against Richard Sherman, whether it's Crabtree or anyone.
That's a bold strategy.
It's a bold strategy.
Who's talking about it?
They're talking about me.
He let everybody know.
Yes, he did.
Like, after that.
Immediately.
And there would have been like 40 million people watching that.
More than that.
Probably more.
For the championship game, it might have been 50 million people.
That's the result you're going to get it.
He got it.
Did you ever cross-pass with Sean Alexander when you were in Seattle?
Like, I'm sure you met him, but...
Yes, obviously not as a teammate, but he'd be around here and there.
Kind of legendary guy.
14th kid, I saw that.
I guess he announced...
He and his wife expecting their 14th child today.
How old is he?
He'd be 50 now?
Like, he won the MVP in 06.
So that was 19 years ago.
He was probably 27, 28.
14?
Yeah, 14.
14.
Oh, Sean, man.
That guy's an MVP as a running back.
That is.
Like that guy was a beast.
Beast.
I'll tell you what, beyond, I don't know.
48, 48.
So the kid's stuff is like, you know, I'm 14 behind him right now.
It should be a tough shot with him.
Yeah, you're chasing him down.
You're down two touchdown.
Correct.
But what is fun about him walking around is a lot of times we see these old heads come back
and they'd be like really disheveled.
You're like, whoa, is that like my future?
like struggling to walk, especially guys get beat up.
He'd show up and it was like, man, he looks pretty young and spry.
And he must be pretty young and spry.
He's got another kid on the way.
You know, walk in, didn't have like a limp, didn't have any like glaring injuries
that you could see while he was in his playing clothes.
Man.
I was like, there is hope for us.
My wife and I were up for four hours last night.
Yeah.
And you got 14 kids?
Like, how do you sleep?
Do you imagine this guy's daycare bill?
Like, it must be absurd.
He's not, he's got it covered.
I'm sure he's not worried about it.
Honestly, God, so right now, guaranteed, like, Netflix or somebody is driving to his house and say, we got to do.
We got cameras on you, man.
We've got to do a special on this.
No, that's not like a one-hour feature.
No, this is like a season-by-season.
I'll tell you this.
So, for the hockey guys here, okay, that would take, you want the soap opera of the NHL.
You guys aren't really known for baby mamas, you know.
The NFL is.
Like, you ever play with a guy that had four kids from three different women?
No.
I never did.
I mean, there's, I'd say that I did.
There's six of them in every locker room.
I'll have been there.
The NFL's a different piece.
It's a different piece.
You know, it's like, you know, Stefan Diggs is going through it right now.
Of course.
Like Diggs and Cardi B.
We're always talking about Tyreek.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Was it Diggs the other day?
There was, I saw, again, on Instagram.
Allegedly, I think you said, Diggs is dating Cardi B?
Yeah, she's pregnant.
She's on there.
But there was an ex-wife on the hood.
of somebody's SUV.
Yes, yes.
And he's trying to pull out of the driveway,
and she's screaming at him.
So Cardi B's not with the rapper anymore?
No, no, no.
Cardi B was on Caller Daddy podcast
with the Diggs jersey on the day.
She's pregnant with Diggs.
And I think Diggs might have two
others going, I don't know, man.
It's a lot of stuff going.
We've all played with guys who
live their lives off the field,
off the ice, all of that type of stuff.
But that is just, you know,
it's another level, regardless of what sport,
14 children, if it's with one wife or seven, it doesn't, like, it's a lot of people.
I'm telling you, you know, Milwaukee guy's got to step it up, man.
Well, one of the all-time, great hard knocks moments was Antonio Primardi trying to name all his kids.
Yeah.
Everybody's like, Gary, it's a Larry?
Philip Rivers?
Yeah, Philip Rivers has got, he's got a army.
Yeah, he's double digits.
He needs, like, he's got like a sprinter van for sure.
For sure.
He loves it, man.
He loves a van.
All right.
He loves a van.
Here's the game tonight. Battle the NFC West.
Cardinals at home against the Seahawks,
Cardinals are plus one and a half.
The Seahawks are laying one and a half on the road tonight.
Hawks all day.
You're on the Hawks.
You're laying up points?
Beyond the, again, Pete Carroll's my guy.
I don't have that many guys left in Seattle.
I would take this whether it was in Seahawks or not.
You know, Conner's out for the year.
James Conner out for...
Is he up for the year?
Maybe that's the worst of my thought.
Yeah, I know he's out tonight.
He's out tonight.
The Achilles.
Yeah, you're right.
Yeah, he's done.
So it's like, Conner's out for the year.
Kyler Murray has not played well this year.
Like he's not been, Marvin Harrison has struggled at times.
The Seahawks defense is very, very good.
You know, they had a shot to B3 and O.
They slipped up, had that fumble late in the game against San Fran.
I don't, like, the run game's coming in life a little bit.
I mean, it's a divisional game.
Wacky things happen in Arizona all the time.
But I got to take, I got to take one and a half.
I got to take Seattle.
Okay.
Yeah, I think that's.
probably the right. I think it's a low-scoring game though
tonight. Could be. Yeah, I think Cardinals
like they're, they're two and one.
Like they're trying to build something.
Yeah. I don't know if they're going to get there.
The division is tight too. Like tighter than we would have thought, I think.
Absolutely. No one's taught the Niners.
Yeah, Niders are a three and Rams are a good
team. Yeah, it's a big game. It's a big game. Totally.
Big implications. Big implications.
Retake the lead.
All right. The Dynasty.
We were open, though. Early in the year.
This is Partsy's pick, by the way.
Partsy, he called me today. He's like, you better take the C-O.
Okay. Well, he's going to be back tomorrow, so he's going to, one way or the other.
If this doesn't end, we're blaming O-Dog.
I haven't heard. Al's brother, I have no idea where he is.
Is he on a cruise? He's on a flotilla somewhere?
I don't know what he's doing.
What is it a flotilla?
It's like a man-made shit.
Like a party barge type of thing?
Yeah, kind of. Like, I wouldn't necessarily say that.
But he might be on a party barge.
Party barge is probably a better way to describe what he's doing right now.
There's a lot of rumors on the deep dark web that there's a mutiny coming.
Yeah?
I've been told that.
And Alice Brothers is going to turn on me?
Yeah, that's what I've been told.
Was it a couple years ago?
You put him on waivers.
Yeah.
You send him down for like two weeks.
We're four, four, and one.
And we got greased by a doogie half point that was not a half point anywhere else.
But he changed it just before you were about to announce.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Exactly.
All right.
Good seeing you.
Great seeing you.
There he is.
Luke Wilson.
Brad Faxson coming up with the Rider Cup.
Jay's socks tonight.
We'll tee that up next.
All right, Best Ben's coming up.
on Jay's Sox.
I don't even know if I can bet on these Jays anymore.
Like there,
you got to pay juice to take the Jays tonight.
You got Louis Varland as an opener.
When is Vladie going to hit?
You keep saying that like,
Varlane.
Well, it's not, like,
Varlane's fine,
but he's a bullpen arm.
And it, like,
it's an opener on the fourth last game of the season.
No, it's terrible.
You know what it feels like?
It feels like when Tiger Woods was in his prime,
and there was,
you know,
call it like a lesser-known player
who was leading a tournament
and all of a sudden, Tiger just starts to roar on Sunday,
and you're like, you can feel it.
It's going to happen.
Yeah, it's not good for that guy.
That's kind of what it feels like with the Yankees.
It's like, oh, it's the Yankees, and it's the Blue Jays,
and the Blue Jays are feeling the heat, and the Yankees,
everything's going well.
Tiger, Tiger on a Sunday chasing them down.
That is a, and I'm curious if that, how much of that is internal compared to external.
Like externally, Jay's fans are like, of course it's the Yankees.
The Yankees aren't going to lose.
Of course they're coming at them.
But now you've seen, you know, lip readers,
is suggesting that George Springer
was saying, well, if you're going to hand it to the Yankees
and hand it. Like, do you think the Jays
are worried about the Yankees?
Like, I get, they're not playing.
About the Jays. That's what I'm saying.
You're worried about getting out of their own way.
They better be. You're not playing the Yankees.
Yeah. Like, if you're showing up in the dome being like,
oh, what are the Yankees doing? Then you've lost already.
I think what you are doing is you're trying to limit
damage. And what I mean by that is
there's times where we've been in, you know,
as a player in a playoff race,
you're scoreboard watching. Because they
know the formula as well.
So you're sitting on the bench or in the dugout
and going, we're down
4-1, what the Yankees doing? Oh, they're up
7-1 right now.
Dangerous game, man.
It is because what you're doing is looking for
anything to go
to gravitate towards.
If you're sitting there and you're tied 1-1
and you're looking at the Yankees are down
3-0-0. You're going, guys, let's go here.
Like, let's date, like, which you are, everybody's
scoreboard watches, everybody's standings watch.
And then that's, you can use that as a motivator as well.
Like tonight, you're right, lip reader, whatever.
But Springer's watching the scoreboard going, what are we doing?
We're handing it to this team.
Let's get going here.
And I think that's, tonight, they're even.
Go at it.
They're going to be scoreboard watching to see what the Yankees are doing.
They've got to take care of what they're doing.
That's what I'm saying.
I would love a policy in that stadium.
You can't do it.
No outside scoreboards.
Like, don't even think about the Yankees.
Right.
Look internally and figure yourself out.
If you can't hit, you're not winning anything.
And that's a reality also when you get to the playoffs.
ALDS, wild card, I don't care what it is.
If they're going to hit like they have the last week, obviously they can't win.
They won't win.
They'll lose two straight in a wild card or three straight in the DS.
Whatever it is, you're not going to win a game.
So who cares what the Yankees are doing?
Who cares even to an extent what Louis Varland's doing?
Obviously, Varlane's got a pitch and whoever's going to be,
I'm sure Lauer is going to come out tonight.
whatever.
But if the bats don't wake up, that's at the forefront.
That's what Snyder said postgame last night.
That's what everyone knows if you've been watching this team for a week.
Their bats are in the darkest depths of...
Terrible, man.
Yes, it's the darkest cave you could be in right now.
Nothing's extra base.
It's actually what they looked like last year trying to...
It's worse, Frankie, which is all...
I thought impossible.
Again, small sample size.
Right.
But the most important sample size you can get.
Exactly.
It doesn't matter.
how big it is. It's the moment of the sample
size. Incredibly important. The worst part about it
is it's all of them at the same time.
Yes, they all stink right now.
If you had one or two, geez this guy's
struggling, but this guy's playing,
like, that's not the case.
It's a good point, though. They've all been brilliant, and then they all
stink. It's a good point. Remember earlier
when, like, Barger was struggling for a bit,
but it didn't matter that Barger was struggling
because everyone else was still hitting. Exactly.
But now everyone's struggling at the same time. It's a good
point. But you keep waiting for,
okay, well, Vladdy's
to dig him up. Well, he hasn't.
To me, I keep looking at Springer, because Springer's
been their MVP. Well, and he'll lead off
in D.H tonight. Luke is playing right field hit
in second. Barger is going to hit cleanup
tonight. Sontan Dare, who
didn't do much last night.
But nobody did.
It's like unfair to expect something
out of this guy. Yet he's
going to hit fifth again tonight, and
Heinemann's catching for Varland.
So, yeah, like
this is what you've got. And you
bring up a good point. Ideally, you
get everyone, but that's not reasonable
to expect. No, it's not reasonable. But give me like
two or three guys. Give me Springer,
who's been great all season, but just give me four more games.
Give me four more great games, George.
How about this? Give me three. Give me three and everyone takes Sunday off.
Give me three of your Springer. Give me three
of your Springer. Give me three of your Bar show's been very
good. He can hit for power.
He has this year. Especially when he came
back and he started playing off the injury. He was great.
Yes. You know what, though? At the
end of it, at the end of it all, you hope you get three, four good games here, but then what?
Yeah.
Like, that's when the whole thing kind of comes crashing down.
If it's just three, four games, it's all for nothing.
And you're like, I don't know, what a waste, what a shame.
Cross that bridge when we get, I know.
But cross the bridge into an AL East victory where you've won the division, you've punched
your ticket, and you avoid the wild card.
Yeah.
That's what you've got to do.
Magic numbers for.
Winns for the Js, losses for the Yankees.
Very simple.
Yeah.
Very simple stuff.
Coverage of the Ryder Cup on Overdrive, brought to you by Subaru.
All right, let's head down in New York.
Again, the Yankees are playing the White Sox tonight.
Former PGA Tour Pro NBC golf analyst.
He's down there at Beth Page.
Here's Brad Faxson.
How you doing, Fax?
What's going on?
Good afternoon, jents.
This is a big week here.
It's been an interminable wait to get to this point where we're going to see actual tournament golf tomorrow.
These players have been here since Sunday night.
They played multiple practice rounds.
Today was a day we thought.
thought was going to get washed out.
There was some heavy early rains, but it kind of cleared up.
Both teams got out on the golf course, play nine holes.
The pairings just came out, and I think everybody's ready to watch the most anticipated
Ryder Cup will ever have seen.
I agree with that.
The buildup is incredible.
It's at Beth Page.
It's such a great, historic, tough course.
It's been interesting the gamesmanship from both sides.
In Europe, in particular, they're coming in the champs.
I think they've won a lot of Rider Cups in the last.
last 10 to 15 years, 20 years, and they're playing it up, right? Like we're a team, we didn't get
paid, you know, we don't have any playing captains over here or any of that kind of stuff
to deal with. Do you think Europe's laying it on a little bit too thick, or do you think it
actually might work in terms of the psyche of the American starting tomorrow?
Boy, this is, this is to me a very, very evenly matched Rider Cup. The home teams and
rider cups have huge advantages. I think the Europeans have shown that they're the ones that have
been able to win away from home more than the Americans, and they certainly have. The
team the Europeans have have 11 veterans from the last Ryder Cup in Rome where they won,
you know, convincingly, one rookie Raspis Hoygard, his twin brother made the team last year. He's
just replaced him. This is a team that's very strong, very confident. We haven't seen much on the
PGA Tour of John Rahm and Tyrell Hat and the two Starworts that are going to start in the
foursomes tomorrow for the European players against Bryson DeCambo and Justin Thomas.
You know, Rory said the biggest thing to do in sports, really, is to win and away Ryder
Cup, and he wants to be part of that again.
Only he and Justin Rose have done that before back in 2012 in Chicago.
But this USA team is formidable.
seven of the top 10 players in the world rankings are on their team,
not including Bryce and DeCambeau because of that, you know,
the live players don't get the rankings.
These pairings that came out, you can look at them and go,
boy, this is incredible what we're going to see.
I would say right now, there's a little bit of edge to Europe to me
in the pairings in the way they played out.
So how much of a statement do you think that first pairing for Europe is?
It's John Rahm, it's Tyrell Haddon.
Like, I look at that and I'm like,
They want to make a statement, and that's the definition of, like, smash mouth golf.
You're going to have your American fans going nuts.
We're going to have two snap shows playing together, and that's how we're going to start things off.
Three live guys, too, because they're going up against Bryson and JT.
Three live guys in the first group.
Do you see it that way?
Like, this is a statement that, like, we're not going to back down, and it's going to be, you know, like, toe to toe to toe.
This is an incredible first round pairing to see for these players.
There's Bryson.
I'm not sure if Bryson's going to try and drive this first green,
if he's going to hit first or if it's going to be Justin Thomas.
If you look at the holes here at Beth Page,
Bryson likes to shape the ball right to left,
and most of the holes on the golf course that are right to left holes are even holes.
So I don't know if Keegan wants Bryson to try and drive the screen
just to get the crowd on the side and go ballistic.
Justin Thomas is more of a fader and a very good wedge player.
They're a tough team, but John Rahm and Tiro, these guys,
or grit your teeth guys that there's nothing's going to phase these guys these guys have seen
everything they're guys that are poor mentors they're guys that would go in the corner to get the puck
and throw it out into the middle um both these these players have have competed well on the pga
tour rom we don't know as much about him now that he's jumped ship to live but they're a they're a
duel i like them together i see them as a strong pairing i see them playing every single match together
whether it's foursums or four ball.
And, you know, Justin Thomas, his game hasn't been perfect.
We don't know about Bryson DeShambeau either in this format as much as being an individual player.
I think this is a toss-up.
With Brad Faxson, who's live in New York, ahead of the Ryder Cup starting tomorrow on NBC.
You can watch it up here on TSN.
If you're Keegan Bradley, if you're the captain of the American team,
how many points do you think you need to get out of Scotty?
Sheffler this week?
Well, I would go so far to say
Schaeffler, his record in the last two
Ryder Cups is two wins, two losses, and three
ties. Much better
when he's at home.
Sheffler's played dominant golf for the last
two years. Nobody's even close. Six wins,
two majors, gold medal.
Playing with one of his best friends and a guy,
Russell Henley, that doesn't miss Farrow's and hits great
irons like Sheffler do. These guys aren't going to make
mistakes. But Scotty Schaeffler,
needs to win three, three and a half to four points, I believe, to show his dominance, to
show the Americans that he means business. And don't forget Bryson DeChambo, if you're throwing
your guy out here in the first group, and Bryson's a guy you want on the course, the fans want
to follow him, he's going to create the most noise from the USA cheerleaders out there.
Bryson needs to win three points as well. These guys got to win 14 and a half points and they
need to do it from their top two players right there, Scotty Sheffler and Bryson DeChambo.
I think a lot of the talk has been about, you know, the American fans and the support that Team USA is going to have.
If it goes south early, do you think there's any worry on the American side that, like, those are pretty unforgiving fans there?
Like, what if all the sudden, like, the old New York boo-birds come out and it goes ugly?
Do you think there's any risk of that being, you know, where they're playing right now?
I do.
I think these first-round foursomes matches are huge for both sides.
If Europe gets off to a good start, they quiet the Americans.
But if the Americans get some momentum and can get this ball roll and win three points,
win three and a half points, and show that they mean business,
it could be just another dominating home team advantage.
I'm a little bit worried about a couple of pairings that I see for the Americans,
Colomorikawa and Harris.
There's two guys that are very straight off the T, good iron players,
but maybe haven't played their best golf late in the season.
You look at Rory McRoy and Tommy Fleetwood.
Rory won a couple weeks ago in Ireland.
Tommy Fleetwood won the season-ending Tour Championship.
The Fleetwood Mac pairing, they're formidable.
They'll play both mornings and foursomes.
I was a little surprised to see the Europeans,
but Matt Fitzpatrick out with Ludwig Oberd,
Goldberg because he and Victor Hovlin played so well together last
Ryder Cup. But this to me
means that there he has a lot of faith in Tommy Fleetwood.
He won the U.S. Open at Brookline. He's a very, very good
I'm sorry, Fitzpatrick. He's a very, very good putter.
And if he gets this going, he might give Schaeffler
and help give Schaeffler and Henley a run.
It's a pickum there, I think.
I'd be worried if I was the Americans about
the fours just because like their record over the last 30 years in in foursums is not good.
Like that's where they're getting beat the most.
When it comes to four ball and singles, like it's pretty close.
But this is the thing.
Like you fall behind the way you have historically and you don't do yourself any favors with obviously who you're playing and what the environment is going to be like around there.
I think that that makes it difficult for the Americans.
They do like it's all about the start for them.
Like I don't have any issues once we get into four ball.
singles.
So it's interesting, you know, when you look at the stats over all these years and you can
kind of sometimes you can throw them away each year.
But in foursomes, if you look at the last six Rider Cups, in the matches in the United States,
the U.S. is up 17 and a half to six and a half in foursomes in their home matches.
So they do have an advantage at home.
I think the biggest challenge for the Americans, you know, Kegan Bradley's a, he's an incredibly
excitable person. And as a captain here in America, I think the only thing he has to really
concern himself is, do I get my players too fired up? In golf, it's not like you're running
through people like on the football field. You've got to have some sense of calm when you're
out there. I know he's got these guys motivated. You don't need a lot of motivation to get
some of these players going. But you got to avoid too much hype. We know tomorrow
President Trump is going to be on the property.
I've heard rumors that he's going to walk on the first tea in the afternoon pairings with
Bryson DeShambeau to get the crowd even more excitable.
I just can't imagine what that would be like.
With Brad Faxson, no kidding.
And you're dealing with New York.
And a lot of the conversation leading up to this has been about New Yorkers, Beth Page,
and what Europe is preparing for.
Is it possible to prepare for this?
Like if you're like Maca Roy is going to get hit.
McElroy is going to be at the forefront.
I think he tried to soften it today.
Say, America is the greatest country in the world.
My wife's American, my daughter's American.
I'll take him at face value, but I think that's a smart play by Rory,
because he's going to be the target.
But do you think Europe can possibly prepare for this
and how ugly could the chirping get from the crowd down there?
Well, there's something already happened to Rory today.
He was on one of the holes.
actually buttoning a button up by the top of his shirt
and some fan you don't need to button your shirt to choke Rory
and he just laughed and looked
it was pretty funny
he looked right at that fan that said that thing
Rory pointed out and smiled you know I think it was a perfect way to respond
to that fan and I think you might have heard this already
but Luke Donald prepared all the team
they had they've used some virtual reality
glasses. They've had a comedian
come in to yell
insults at them while they're playing
some practice rounds
and to get them used to what
these fans in New York,
what they might say
in all these crazy situations.
But, you know,
some of this is going to make you fight harder. Some of it
could hurt you.
And I know tomorrow morning
at 7.10, there are going to be a lot
of eyes glued on this TV.
time with bryson and justin thomas absolutely how much stock is put into the uniforms and
do the guys care about them and not because i read an article today saying the 10 worst
rider cup uniforms of all time and you know do the guys pay attention do they care about it or is
they're just proud to be there type of thing well you know it's it's funny the the u.s team has
polo polos got red white and blue everywhere and i think i was sitting next to
Nick Faldo today in our production meeting, and Faldo looked that uniform, and there was one sleeve was red and one sleeve was blue for the rain gear.
And he goes, that would really bother me in my swing to make a back swing and see red and then make a follow through and see blue.
I don't like it.
And then, you know, Europe's got the Laura Piana, their beautiful knit materials of you probably can't even find those shirts in the United States.
And they are using some of their history out of the path to find the color.
that were worn, the years that they won
on away matches. So it'll be
interesting to see what they come up with because
those shirts that they've had have been
very, very different to the American shirts.
Yeah, they have been. Some of them
have been incredibly up-putting.
Incredibly up-putting.
Terrible, as a matter of fact.
Horrendous.
But we'll see
what happens as of tomorrow morning.
We always love catching up with you. I know it's a
really busy time of year. We can't thank you enough.
Thanks, fax.
We'll have a lot of hours.
So one more thing before I hang up.
Tomorrow on NBC, we go on the air.
The morning will be on, I think it's on USA,
and then we switch to NBC.
I'm going to be calling all the American shots.
The Irishman Paul McGinley,
who was a captain for the European team
and has played on three rugby cups.
He's going to announce all the European shots,
and we're allowed to use bias and prejudice here when we announced.
So I can say we rather than being kind of non-descripts.
It's going to be a different way to do the program.
That's awesome.
We will be watching diligently.
We cannot wait. Thanks, Fax. Have fun there.
It's going to be a blast.
Nice seeing you guys. Love talking to you.
Great seeing you. There's the great Brad Faxon,
who will be out there for NBC and the Golf Channel.

Get the Leafs in Montreal tonight.
You guys are on a panel for that.
But, Easton Cowan Plain again, which is interesting with Lawrence and Lotton.
Like, that's the fourth line.
Yeah.
But effectively the first line.
Tonight.
They haven't sent.
You know what?
And there'll be a good test for them because Montreal is dressing their top six.
Or what is their top six on tape?
Toronto will win tonight because you're seeing the young team, the HL teams are going in
and winning because.
If Toronto wins tonight, Marty San Luis is going to blow a gasket.
Yeah, but even though it's preseason, he's, he's been kind of hammering home this message
of like urgency and like we're not satisfied based on what happened last year.
And if your top six is supposed to be as good as it should be, you can't lose to Leaf's
fourth line as their top line.
And you got Dennis Hildevianette, who could be their big backup goalie on opening night.
That's the one I've circled because this is a really big opportunity.
Played the other night, played very well.
And if you follow it up with another performance, maybe it just kind of keeps the flies off
of like, hey, Joseph, well, take your time.
but if he gets lit up.
Now, it's not a good team.
That's the other thing,
because I'll be making excuses going,
none of these guys should have bad defensive play,
Marley's breakdown.
But if he ends up stealing one,
now of a sudden it maybe just calms the masses.
Like, you've got to go get somebody or whatever.
Keep in mind, solar is still there.
Here's another one for tonight, too.
And Scott Lawton, they paid a lot to get him.
He should look way better than David Camp.
You know what I mean?
Like, it should look like a very significant upgrade over David Camp.
if they're going to say, like, we're, we don't need camp anymore and we're moving on from here.
Like, it should look, it should look significant.
It's a good point.
You're going to talk about, like, battles in camp.
Why is Lotton guaranteed over David Camp?
Right.
They're both veterans in the league.
Yeah, exactly.
Both fourth-line centers in the league.
Yeah.
So we've got that.
Jay's Red Sox tonight.
Let's see what comes of it.
Yeah.
See what comes.
Marlow's not optimistic, man.
Not optimistic.
It's a weird vibe.
They've lost six of seven.
They can't hit anything.
At some point, the bats have got to come.
come alive.
Never know.
You never know.
Exactly.
They have to come alive.
They have to.
Yeah.
So, Leaves, J's.
You got Thursday night football.
What a night.
Ryder's up tomorrow.
It's going to be unreal tomorrow.
Dude, I love that first pairing for Europe.
I love it.
Yeah.
Patton and Rom.
Snapshow.
Interesting, Bryson and J.T.
though.
Like Bryson going out.
And again, in the afternoon,
Bryson going out,
and Trump's going to be there.
It's going to be nuts.
It's all about the energy.
Yeah, it's going to be.
Exactly.
It's going to be crazy.
All right, boys.
Catch you guys on the panel tonight.
Thanks to everyone behind the scenes for helping out.
