Claudia was leaving for her pickleball tournament.
I've been visualizing my match all week.
She was so focused on visualizing that she didn't see the column behind her car on her
backhand side.
Good thing Claudia's with Intact, the insurer with the largest network of
auto service centers in the country. Everything was taken care of under one
roof and she was on her way in a rental car in no time.
I made it to my tournament
and lost in the first round. But you got there on time.
Intact Insurance, your auto service ace. Certain conditions apply.
NFL camps of course are off and running here as the host of the alternate
routes podcast
Trey Wingo back on overdrive.
How you doing Trey?
Good guys.
How are you?
Great to be with you.
Yeah.
Great to have you.
We appreciate you doing this.
What do you, what in terms of tracking performances in camps and particularly quarterbacks and
their stats, seven on sevens, 11 on 11s, are you knee deep in that or do you just say wake me up in September it's absolute garbage and it means nothing
thank you yeah look we do this like and again my old employer is doing this on
the quarterback battles at in Cleveland you don't know what you're doing you
don't know what you're looking at You don't know what you're looking at. First of all,
JJ Watt posted something really interesting, which was for all basically for all you people posting
these stats about training camp, stop it. Because first of all, you're trying new things. That's
what practice is for. You're trying new things to see if they work. Some may work, some won't. So you
don't know what the play design design was what they were trying to like
Almost every social media outlet out there posted Aaron Rodgers throwing an interception on his first
Practice map
Okay, so a new guy with a new team throws an interception in practice
What does it fricking matter?
The answer is it doesn't. He's going to go out there and try and work with new
teammates, find these things, do all these sort of things, understand what the
defense is going looking for. We put so much weight into this, especially with
Chudor Sanders in Cleveland. Oh he went seven of seven, he must be great. Oh my
god he went eight of 13 with two interceptions, he must be great. Oh my God, he went eight of 13 with two interceptions,
he must be terrible.
You don't even know what the coaches are actually
asking the players to do.
You have no idea of any of this.
You're just throwing up raw numbers
to support whatever argument you wanna have to begin with.
So I put no weight in that whatsoever.
I put weight in what the coaches say,
I put weight in what the players say,
and I'll give you an example. A few years ago when Zach
Wilson was still the quarterback of the Jets and he went down with an injury,
Garrett Wilson said the quiet thing out loud. He basically said, you know, because
Joe Flacco was their backup, he said yeah, you know, it's gonna be difficult or
different dealing with Joe versus Zach. You know, Joe throws a much more
catchable ball and that really caught my attention because what he's saying, what he was saying at that time frame was Zach throws everything
hard, super fast and you either catch it or you don't and you know, you got to have as
a starting pitcher, you got to have a fast ball, you got to have a change up, you got
to have a curve and what he was saying was that Joe had all of those things and Zach
hadn't learned that skill set yet
He might never have that skill set those things interest me
Way more than raw numbers of what someone is or isn't doing in camp because you have no idea how to put those numbers in
Context. Okay, you mentioned chidurah sanders. I want to play this clip jimmy haslam the owner of the brown speaking with the media today
This is what he had to say about the sanders pack
if you just told me
significant on saturday right
truck friday night drive home you know that should do or i would say that
that's not happening but
we had a conversation early that morning
uh... conversation later that day i think we have the right people involved
in the conversation
at the end of the day that's a very very small
and you make the call to picture door
he's gonna start
what play we're gonna call his kids call
that's a news call
what's the what's he telling us there
uh... very simply up on it
uh... you own the contract that we gave to Deshaun Watson. That has been
an absolute disaster. So if this doesn't work out, it's on you, buddy. And I think
that Kevin Sapansky is probably in a much more secure job situation than
Andrew Barry is at this point. That's what I take away from him.
Yeah, I take away something similar. I don't know how often owners are, I mean, unless you're Jerry
Jones, but go ahead, Dave. Well Well yeah, the funny thing about that press
conference is that because the Browns have a couple of draft first-round picks
in next year's draft, Trey Haslam was asked about the idea that Arch Manning,
who's only going into his first year as a full-time starter down in Texas at the
University of Texas, might be on the radar of the Brownss so they're already talking about drafting another quarterback and the guy they
just drafted hasn't even played I mean it's a bit of a mess already isn't it?
Well it's the Browns it's always a bit of a mess and let's be clear you said
the guy they drafted they drafted two right okay they drafted Dylan Gabriel in
the third round two rounds ahead of one they drafted Shudder Sanders and they
signed Kenny Pickett they have Joe Flacco,
and Deshaun Watson's not going anywhere,
even though he probably won't play this year
because of the Achilles, because of how much money
he's owed in that guaranteed contract,
which is never gonna be replicated
in the history of the NFL.
So the Cleveland Vowels don't understand
that you probably should only play one quarterback.
And this is a big issue for them.
Like, you know, the Browns,
this is a lather, rinse, repeat situation.
Nothing changes except the Browns
making terrible decisions.
Yeah, and it's, it is interesting what's,
what we're hearing, I'm curious what you're hearing
is that Arch Manning is intending on staying at Texas
beyond this year.
Are you buying that?
Like, what do you see happening?
I am.
Well, first of all, I am because you can make a bleep ton of money in college especially at a place like the University of Texas
those alumni's and boosters are so sick of losing every year to other teams in
Texas and you know that's why they made the jump to the SEC he's probably gonna
make more in his in his two years in college then he'll make it his rookie
contract in the NFL and number two let's just remember
you i didn't leave early
uh... his uncle
payton didn't leave early
his uncle
it's in the family blood to stay there and finish out your college experience
and oh by the way you're going to be overrun with profits
so yeah i would unless archmanning has one of the greatest years in the history
of college football, which he might, I would be shocked if he didn't go back for another
year at the University of Texas.
Tre, I was enviously following your social media posts about a trip you recently got
back from in our great country on the East Coast.
Tell us a bit about your 81-hole journey across Maritime Canada.
Oh, absolutely, guys.
It was my fifth trip up to Cabot. whole journey across Maritime Canada? Oh absolutely guys.
My fifth trip up to Cabot.
It's just one of the most special places in the world.
We played the Cliffs course twice, we played the Lynx course twice, and then we also went
up on an Emergen G9 one afternoon on the Lynx course.
It is one of my favorite, I'm very fortunate, I go to a lot of really great golf places.
I'm not sure anything is better than Cabot Now we had we had picture-perfect weather
I mean we got there Friday and you know was in the 70s and a little humid and
Just really cloud cover so that was fine
Then Saturday with that Friday that we had some rain and that brought in lower the humidity the winds kicked up
But I mean if you're gonna play links golf you want the wind to kick up. To give you an example, 14 which is the signature hole
at the links course, it's like Pebble Beach's number 7, part 3 downhill
toward the water. On Friday with no wind, me and my buddy we both hit gap wedges.
On Saturday with a four club wind we hit eight iron. The same green,
like it's just crazy.
Then the Cliffs course is just so dramatic.
There's so many carries, you know, and there's so many,
one of my favorite things about that layout
is six, six, and six, six par three,
six par four, six par five.
And I just, I cannot tell you how great it is.
If you are a golfer at all, you've gotta go.
And the people are just so great they're so friendly and was gathering
week
uh... in in verness in that area so we just we had the absolute best time
and i i i told him as we're leaving yesterday died dot booking my trip or
if you go back to get action out of life but an all-time great there are a lot of
stuff yet i was there a few weeks ago it is as epic as it can get uh... the nest is a really cool little part three course you don't like on it's
a lot of them that they've got
and they've got so many great little restaurant that we want to be annexed
over there
and they have the the the the lobster barn now at the uh... at the clips course
that you'll panorama there's so many little things in and around the town of
indonesia
they've just done such a great job embracing what cabinet has brought to
that area it's just wonderful yeah it's an incredible spot and i'd
they're going to get the three courses at some point out there
uh... and land that's what i've been hearing and so never turn of that
happens man it brings it
even more
you know to a dead completely different was just an incredible spot
uh... awesome to hear that, Trey.
Safe travels, pal.
We appreciate you doing this, thank you.
