Hello everybody and welcome back to the P1 podcast with Matt and Tommy,
the final piece of content where we chat about Malaysia.
Oh, it feels sad, Tommy, to say goodbye.
I'm already seeing little murmurs of the Prime Minister talking to blah, blah, blah,
and they're trying to get Malaysia.
On the calendar in the future, it's got, like, come on, the positive sentiment,
we all love it, so let's get it back.
on the calendar as a solid, as I said, I think I said in the podcast, like, come on,
doesn't matter if it costs a bit of money.
Let's keep the integrity of the sport with some banging tracks.
And now that we've seen it, it should be here to stay.
Exactly.
You know it was a banging race when everyone's happy and talking about it and just really
hyped about that race when there was also so much kind of farcicalness and controversy
and whatever as well.
I don't think fascicalness is a word.
I was about to ask.
But hey, look, we can create our own vocabulary.
This is our podcast.
Exactly.
We do what we want, double award winning and all that.
We do what we want, just like driver ratings.
Yes, indeedy, driver ratings.
So this might be an episode.
I'll tell you that.
Oh, I love it.
I can already sense some people's keyboards being on fire
a total of 72 pit stops in this race,
which is absolutely.
mental. And yeah, of course, a lot of strange strategy calls, things that you might downgrade,
you might upgrade, whatever. But it's going to be an interesting one, isn't it, Tommy?
Yeah, I can't wait. Can't wait for this one. There's a lot to dive into, a lot of, I think
there's a lot of people's races that maybe look a bit different on the, on the surface of kind of result,
and that's what driver ratings is all about. So hopefully there'll be some, you know, disagreements and
things.
Fingers crossed, we shall see.
Let's get into it then and begin with Sergio Perez,
who started 20th and finished 19th.
So we come to the first driver in our driver ratings,
and it's already a driver that was like,
hey, I think the soft tires might be it, or the team at least.
And of course that meant that Perez's race was a little bit screwed,
but he was one of those to go, no, to be fair,
starting at the back, but nope, the intermediates are the right one.
I'm going to go for a six out of ten for Checo.
Now, Cadillac were absolutely nowhere when it comes to just pace.
And also, I'm giving a little small nod to the fact that Perez did not have the upgraded engine,
and Valtry Bottas did until he went querying into the gravel with it.
But for Perez, yeah, like he was up to, I think, 14th at the start.
Of course, everyone else that he was a...
head of was on soft tires, but my goat, up to P14, can't ignore it.
And yeah, overall, I think it was a good weekend considering the fact that Cadillac are nowhere
near anybody and he was the least upgraded of the two Cadillac drivers.
Yeah, I've gone for a six out of ten for Stoja Perez as well.
Solid, I would say is the only real way to describe it.
Like, unspectacular, you know, had the old power unit, which they definitely should have
to him based off everything this year.
But yeah, they gave it to Bottas and what a choice that was.
And yeah, Perez, a solid job, but Cadillac were very much, you know, the back of the grid,
particularly with the improvement of Asa Martin now.
And Perez wasn't that far away from Botas, you know, to say that all Bottas's kind of
superiority in qualifying, particularly came on like straight line speed because he had
better engine.
Indeed.
And seven pit stops as well.
Let's not forget for Sergio Perez.
What a guy.
He brought the averages up for the amount of pit stops across the field.
Yeah, if you take away the seven pit stops and the finishing order, I reckon is probably
about P3.
I mean, if you go to that one.
That's interesting.
Why did, because I'm looking at his, I mean, the, by the way, the sort of pit stop
graphic that Pirelli put out is genuinely like a rainbow this weekend.
Why did Perez pit on lap 18 for hard to?
tires and then pit again on lap 21 for hard tires.
Do we know?
Because that's a three-lap stint on the hard tires.
Perhaps some kind of puncture or I don't know.
I mean, to be fair, there was a nail in Max Verstappen's tire, wasn't there right at the
beginning, which is crazy.
He just wanted to break the record for the most pit stops.
He did.
He was like, I'm running at the back.
Let's do as many pit stops as we can.
The fans gave Sergio Perez a six out of ten as well.
Moving on to Valtry Bottas.
started 19th, did not finish.
I've gone for three out of ten for Valtry Bottas.
They had the adjuwo two and completely wasted it.
And I'm not going to mince my words here.
I think Bottas is having a horrible, horrible season.
I think he's easily the worst driver of the season.
And if Lance Stroll was doing what Bottas was doing,
I think he'd be getting absolutely roasted.
But it's just Botas, you know, he's cycling and he gets his bummer.
out and, you know, fun times.
Hey, that was for charity, to be fair.
It was.
I know, and I respect it, but.
We like Valtry Bottas's bum if it's done for good cause.
And I do.
You know, great charity work.
Enjoyed the Save the Rhinos helmet.
But, you know, at the end of the day, we're rating drivers and he's been pretty
useless.
Wow.
He's been on a reasonable run of form.
By the way, before we start recording, Tommy said, I'm feeling sassy today.
And it's already coming out at Valtry.
Botas. I mean,
Bottas has had a reasonable run of form over the last few.
Like, you know, no, but I mean, of all the times to slander him, it was Canada.
Like Canada.
All the times to slander him, not the one where he spun off into the gravel on that.
That's fine.
Now, this is an isolated incident.
You're saying, you know, useless.
That's a strong word for Valtry Bottas, you know.
He's had some good races.
Yeah, don't get me wrong.
He is at the bottom.
But, you know, my goat's been on a serious rampage.
in the Cadillac. No, he hasn't. But not as bad as he was mid-season, I would say. But this one was not so great. Tommy is dishing it out. Valtry Bottas, I've gone for a three out of ten as well. I agree that the upgrade was wasted on him. Don't know why they've given him the Adjuwo, too, to be honest with you, because Perez has been mostly the better driver this year. Maybe they thought, Maléi,
Asia, it's going to be low grip.
They look at the two drivers.
Ah, Valtrey Bottas, the low grip goat, as we love to call him.
But sadly, it was the lowest of grips, and he found himself in the gravel.
It's not anything lower than the three, because there's a slight sort of sympathy of it was difficult conditions.
And that being said, and his charity work, of course.
But it's a three out of ten for Valtry Bottas from me.
The fans, the fans have gone for a five.
Wow, they love his bum.
Okay, come on, we need to stop talking about rear ends.
The only rear end I'm happy to talk about
is the stepping out of a rear tyres and the rear wing.
Right, this has been a very strange start to the driver ratings.
Let's go to Franco Colapinto, started 21st, finish 13th.
Franco Colapinto is going to receive a 7 out of 10 from me.
Yeah, he's getting...
some plaudits, some compliments, because as much as that doesn't look great on paper,
of course he had to start the back, not had to, but he had a five-place penalty.
Alpine were like, well, you know what, let's just put loads of power unit stuff in
because we may as well, considering we've got a penalty after the massive mistake in Baku.
And then, you know what, he was kind of unlucky.
I genuinely think that he would have been on the tail end of the points,
had it not been for, I think he pitted just before the VSC came out.
for lap 42 I think and 43 it came out generally like his pace was really good it's just the the result has not has not shown it because as we know the the race was crazy and colapinto of course I believe he started on the dries as well didn't he which absolutely cooked him at the beginning but you know to bounce back from there I think it was it was solid Alpine weren't the fifth or fastest car either in my opinion so Franco no points but I
a reasonable rating and driver ratings.
I've gone for a seven as well for Franco Colopinto.
I thought that was going to be a hot take,
but completely agree with you.
I think he was very unlucky.
He just seemed to always pit at the wrong time, essentially.
At the end of the race as well,
he passed Olly Berman to get an extra place,
which ended up putting, you know, two places,
two hasses in between him and his teammate.
And he was on the unfavorable medium tires as well.
Yeah, exactly.
So, yeah, I think he did a solid job.
So I'm going to give him a seven.
as well.
Okay, dokey.
The fans gave Franco Colopinto a six out of ten.
Pierre Gasley started ninth, finished 16th.
I've gone for a five out of ten for Pierre Gasly.
The start was absolutely crazy, of course.
He went off.
I don't know if you've seen the...
That was before the even...
That was before the even going, yeah.
But my word, I don't know if you've seen the fan view of it,
but he is absolutely flying off.
It's like a slip and slide.
And he is so lucky not to hit the barrier.
It didn't look really dramatic at all from what we were seeing on the TV broadcast shock.
They missed the good stuff.
And maybe they should have shown it in a mini box and we might have seen it.
But they, yeah, Gazley like flew off so close to the barrier.
And it kind of, you know, in that kind of race,
he had a really good qualifying, but yeah, not all that in the race and disappointing
because normally these kind of chaotic races is where Gassley really excels, but I don't
think he did.
I've gone for a five out of ten as well for Gassley.
You know, a big moment, as you say, before the race had even truly begun.
Not that, I mean, he was cooked anyway because he was on the wrong tires and would have
fallen all the way to the back anyway, but, you know, you have to take that into account
because he was one of the only drivers to do it at that point.
Yeah, and then, yeah, even after all of that,
other drivers showed that it is possible to recoup your losses
and get a good result from that.
But for Gassley, just didn't seem to really have the pace to be able to recover.
So that's why Colopinto gets a higher grade
because he showed that there was something possible in that Alpine.
So yeah, a five from me and the fans gave Gassley a five.
five as well.
Gabrielle Bortoletto started 10th, finished 18th.
I have gone for a 4 out of 10 for Gabriel Bortoletto.
Now he was involved in an impact with Carlos Hines, which screwed his nose,
his front wing, even, not his actual nose.
And then, of course, got a penalty as well for that.
The reason why it's no lower than a four is because he had a really good qualifying
so there's a slight adjustment there
but overall it's a shame for Bortoletto
because there was a lot of
possibilities there
he was one of the drivers I think to
bail basically after initially
deciding to start on the dries
which turned out to be the right call
well the wrong call but then the next right call
and to then not take the start
but that being said you know to finish
basically last ahead of Perez
is a bit of a disaster from where
he started. I've gone for a four as well for Bortoletto. It's such a shame because an amazing
qualifying from him, but he threw away a great chance of some points with that collision with
science. And it's really gutting because I really do think Bortoletto has so much potential. He's got
so much speed and he's just having quite a few errors this year. And when he doesn't make an error,
he's doing incredibly well and looking the better driver than Holkenberg and being really strong.
But unfortunately for him, there's too many little errors here and there.
And it was another one in this race that really cost him points.
So a shame for Bortolete.
A shame indeed.
The fans also went for a four out of ten.
Nico Holcomburg started 15th, finished 11th.
I've gone for a six for Nico Hulkemberg.
he should have scored points really.
You know, he made a mistake in qualifying.
And then in the chaos, he was actually running ninth on the restart.
And I know that, you know, one of those cars overtook him was Orlando Norris and a much quicker McLaren.
But in such a crazy race, it feels like a missed opportunity to not score a point.
But, you know, they just gravitate towards an 11th place, those Audies.
They really do, despite everything.
I've gone for a six out of ten as well for Hulk
just narrowly missing out on the points
when he was fighting Arvid Limblad
like a better race from Holkenberg
compared to his teammate
of course struggled in qualifying
which was a shame for him
I think he made a mistake there
which Holcomberg
I get the feeling
he does not enjoy these cars
in comparison to what we've had before
because usually qualifying was one of his strengths
but I feel like there's a lot of mistakes
this season.
Yeah, a lot of mistakes from Nico this year on the Saturday in particular.
But, you know, a strong race, but sadly not able to capitalize on a crazy, crazy race.
The fans also went for a six out of ten.
Esteban Ocon started 17th, finished 15th.
Well, this is a difficult grade.
I'll be so honest with you, because I really want to give him quite a high grade.
but I can't because there are downgrades there as well.
So I'm going to go for a six out of ten for Esty Besty.
I considered a seven,
but the problem is he cooked himself on that hard tire
and sort of undid a lot of the good work that he'd done at the beginning.
He was running solidly in the points in that first part of the race
because he chose right with the intermediate tyres
in a hasse that, as we saw, was knocked out in Q1.
But the problem is he wasn't able to,
to make the most of it and then actually ended up finishing behind Bearman,
which would have been a surprise if you'd looked at the race picture in the early stages.
So, yeah, I've gone for a six.
I've also gone for a six for a second of a knock on.
He was running so, so well.
He was up in sixth at the start, which is insane.
And it does feel like a bit of a what might have been if there was no safety car
through the whole race, a bit like a Liam Lawson of no safety car,
the guys on the dry tires are screwed
they're completely out of it and obviously
a lot of those are top teams as well
and he would have been on for an amazing
result but the problem is I have to
downgrade him like and completely
the same that it's the
hard tire you know
he absolutely cooked them
and he must have been
absolutely
fuming that he finished for Hein
Behrmann in that race with how well he was doing
at the start so I'm giving him
like it's
kind of a very average race in the end, but I'm giving him a nod because had we not had a safety
car and things like that, he was running in a really, really strong position and it's like what might
have been really. Yeah, so you bring this up, of course, I'm looking at lap nine, I'm seeing
Valtry Bottas in the gravel, and Ockon's in sixth, as you say, he's got signs behind him,
then Limblad, then Albon, then Piastri, of course, did that change to the intermediates as well.
But you look at where Lando, Shalachler, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonzo, who obviously ended up
finishing 8th. Norris is 32 seconds behind Perez. He's over, he's probably about 50 seconds
behind Ocon with 46 laps remaining. You'd like to think obviously, well, it's a safe
assumption to think that the midfielders are going to be at least a second a lap slower. So I think
it would have very much come down to maybe the last five laps of whether or not the likes of
Ocon, signs and so on, could actually hold on to these positions, which would have been interesting.
but with these crazy races
you're never not getting another
little safety car or something to mix
things up. Anyway, shame for Ockon.
The fans gave them a five.
P6 and start the races, not enough for the bands.
Olly Behrman started 16th, finished 14th.
I've gone for a five for Olly Bearman.
The Hass.
I know that Ockon was running really high up
but that was circumstantial
because of the gamble that he made at the start.
But yeah, just really not seen anything from Hassan Olly Berman in a long time.
It feels ages ago he was so hyped at the start of the season.
And yeah, it's a real shame, just a really quiet race from Olly Berman,
even though he did manage to somehow beat his teammate in the end,
despite them being a massive gap between them in positions and time.
but obviously the safety cars neutralised it
and we mentioned Ocon's poor performance
on the hard tyres in the end.
I've gone for a six out of ten for Olly Behrman
as much as it wasn't as spectacular as Ockon
the fact that he's ended up beating him
from what I can see through no like gain of pitting under a safety car
because I'm looking at the tyre strategy
because I'm like how on earth has he beat an Ocon
after all of that?
And obviously the safety car comes out sort of lap 43-ish
and the last pit stops for Behrman and Ocon are 41 for O'Con and 38 for Bearman.
So I can't give Bearman less just purely because he didn't have a particularly standout Grand Prix compared to Ockon
because somehow O'Con has ended up 15th.
I might be mistaken there, but I want to give both of them a similar grade because they've ended up together on the road.
So Olly gets a six out of ten for a, yeah, just a calm, chill race and a car that's rubbish, as we saw from qualifying.
The fans gave Olly a 5 out of 10.
Lance Stroll started 14th, finished 12th.
I'm going to go for a 7 out of 10 for Lance Stroll.
The way he said that is like, wow, Lance.
Lance is 7.
Anything above a 5.
Wow, we.
And I've gone for a 7 because as much as it's right up there
with one of the best results for him this season,
Aston Martin brought a,
lovely upgrade to this race
that went slightly under the radar.
I don't think anyone was really thinking
oh, Aston Martin could cook here.
And Lance wasn't too bad, right?
He was still off the pace of Alonzo.
Didn't finish in the points.
But we did think at one point
that Lance was running quite high, I think,
at the beginning.
Ah, he spawned into a great position
in a crazy race, shock.
But fell away a little bit
towards the end and finished 12th,
but it's still a 7 out of 10, I would say.
So a good performance from Lance, who I think said after the race,
it was nice to bat a other cars, which is always a feel-good moment for him.
And I saw another spicy radio message from him where he was basically being told to lift,
which I think is something to do with the way these cars are
and how it's actually quicker if you lift off into certain corners.
And he was like, no, I think he said F that.
Oh, really?
Because he wanted to push.
He just wanted to push because he was probably getting it.
excited that there are actually cars that he could fight and stuff.
But I've gone for a seven for Lance Roll as well.
It's a decent performance.
It's not anything to like scream and shout about.
You know, he was a long way behind Alonzo.
In qualifying, he also was on the right tire.
You know, at the start and should have taken advantage of it.
You know, he was at the restart, he was 11th and Alonzo was 18th.
and Alonso's the one that's finished well clear.
But we all know that's just due to Alonzo's superiority.
Oh, sorry, you know, yeah.
Everyone else, yeah, the safety car bunched them up.
But for Fernando Alonzo, superiority.
No, no, I'm talking about him overtaking.
I see.
I see.
Fair enough.
That's fine.
I'm just covering off the fan boy.
Just covering it off.
Yeah.
Okay, large stroll locked in.
The fans gave him a seven as well.
Fernando Alonzo started 12th, finished 8th.
Over to you, Tommy, Mr. Fanboy.
I've gone for a 10 out of 10 for Fernando Alonzo.
It was an absolute masterclass from him.
Of course, got the good fortune to bring the safety car
that brought him back into the race,
a bit like Lewis Hamilton as well.
But when that happened, boy, did he make the most of it.
He had great pace, fantastic overtaking skills,
you know, showing that he's still got it
when he can actually fight with other cars,
even held Lando off at the end,
who was, of course, in a much, much quicker car.
And, yeah, it was closing in on Lawson
and very close to P7 at the end.
Of course, there was the safety car
and everything that bunched them up.
But Alonzo, just a brilliant, brilliant drive again.
And I really hope this is more of the norm now,
and particularly going into next season,
we can see more of this,
because Alonzo being able to fight
is a much more enjoyable Formula One,
as he showed.
It certainly is, and Tommy enjoyed that grade.
I am going to give Fernando Alonso a 10 out of 10.
Congratulations, Fernando.
Yeah.
I thought you're going to nine just to rage bait me.
Just to rage bet you.
No, I can't.
Absolutely not.
It was brilliant.
What a recovery drive from Fernando.
His qualifying was amazing.
And then to, of course, fall back at the start,
but still be able to pass cars.
It's great to see the Aston Martin Honda actually hold its own down the straight
and even pass a Red Bull Power Train's car into term one.
And yeah, this is Fernando Alonzo.
You know, there's questions, has he still got it?
Yes.
Yes.
Yes, I think he has.
That was Limblad, my God.
But I think all of us would love to know where he stacks up with a driver that isn't Lance
Stroll but that's that's the only real question mark right and we'll never know because
lampstrol will be there forever so there you go Fernando Alonzo 10 out of 10 brilliant performance from
him and ended up beating Lando Norris which is quite something that of course mainly down to
lando's era but I don't think anybody would have said on the road
van don't also beat Lando Norris in this race at the fans gave Alonzo a 10 out of 10
Arvid Limblad started 22nd finished 10th
I've gone for an 8 out of 10 for Arvid Limblad
Of course had to be at the back
And not that that was really too much
We had such a crazy race ahead of him
That there was obviously an opportunity to make something of it
And started on the right tire
Congratulations to the team
And from there on
As I mentioned with Holcombberg's grade
was able to pass him right at the end to score a point.
The V-carb in Lawson's hands obviously was really impressive
and we'll get onto him shortly.
But I think Lindblad's done a quietly solid job
to recover after a back-of-the-grid penalty, as we've mentioned.
So, yeah, a solid weekend once again for Arvid Lindblad,
especially in these kind of conditions.
This guy's a rookie.
This guy's a rookie and it was tough out there.
and Limblad still showed that he's able to perform in any condition.
Oh, this one's really, really tricky.
I'm going to go for a seven for Limblad.
Very close to an eight.
I'm struggling between the two.
For me, it's more down to when we get to Lawson, of course, as well.
but yeah back of the grid obviously he flew by a lot of people thanks to that choice of the the inters you know the back of the grid was kind of undone immediately he's like up to ninth straight straight away in that crazy situation you know grabbed a point at the end um which uh you know were very very close to points could have gone either way um but yeah it's still it's still a really strong result from him and again like being really really impressed
We said, didn't we, that after the talk of like him having a couple of practice crashes,
are going to knock his confidence certainly hasn't and he's driving very, very well.
So yeah, continues a great rookie season and grab some more points when, yeah, he started literally last.
Yeah, last to 10th place I think is deserving.
Some might say a 7, some might say an 8.
And that's the beauty of this driver ratings.
The fans gave Arvid Lindblad an 8 out of 10.
Liam Lawson started 11th, finish 7th.
I've gone for a nine out of 10 for Liam Lawson.
What a, what a drive.
So much happened in that race and so much chaos
that him going from 11th to basically fighting Maxa Stappen at the start
is almost like not spoken about enough from that crazy race
because there was so much happening.
You know, to start 11th and be fighting the pole sitter into turn 1,
yes it was crazy circumstances but he drove incredibly well anyway achieved an amazing result
unfortunately for him the the safety cars and things bunched the pack up and it meant he was
never going to to beat a lot of the you know that when the friars and maclaren's came through
but even on the restart you know he was battling piastri really making good go of it to try
and stay ahead but ultimately it's always going to lose out to the top cars but what a
what a drive from Lawson again.
Absolutely.
I've gone for a nine out of ten as well for Liam Lawson.
He was best of the midfield easily, as you mentioned, you know, had a phenomenal start.
Max had a stinker as well.
So combined the two and you've got Vestappan versus Lawson.
And yeah, like before the safety car came out, the final one, well, not the final one, technically the penultimate one because we had another one because of George Russell.
But he was he was 10 seconds clear of the midfield behind him.
Alonzo I think was running intent at that point.
So there's really not many negatives at all to point out for Lawson.
Of course, a bit of a shame he wasn't able to make it through to Q3,
but I'm not sure whether the V-Cab genuinely had the pace of some of the other midfield cars over one lap.
But yeah, a phenomenal performance from Lawson, and he should be very, very proud.
Once again, another great performance this year in similar, you know,
similar point I made with Arvid.
Lawson is not this driver that has 400 races under his belt,
but I think he was showing that he has the prowess
to be able to deliver in such tricky conditions.
So well done, Lawson.
Nine out of ten from me.
The fans gave him an eight.
Same as Linblad is absolutely crazy.
Sorry, yeah, no, I'm reading that.
I have a Limblad and then Liam Lawson got the same grade.
Wow.
Wowy.
Moving on to Carlos Sines.
Started 13th, finished 17th.
I'm giving Carlos Sines a 7 out of 10.
I think people are forgetting that he was yeated round after a phenomenal start once again,
similar to how we were speaking about Liam Lawson.
Carlos was on the right tyre and running like sixth and eighth or something, the two Williams,
and you're thinking, this is it, huge points on the horizon.
But sadly for him, Bortoletto sent him into the most pathetic spin possible,
the lightest of touches.
And he's like, wee, bye.
and that was any opportunity of points kind of squandered then.
But I want to give him a high grade because he was looking in contention until that point.
So in a Williams that is still very bad.
And I also want to mention that his qualifying was really, really good as well.
So Carlos is getting a grade that is quite high considering he finished all the way down in 17th.
I have gone for a 7 out of 10 as well for Carlos science.
Tommy, look at us.
yeah brilliant qualifying result i think williams are still way off it um very much uh you know
flash in the pan in bacc um with with how quick they they looked but didn't seem to be the case here
uh yet you know he ran six at an early point got punted out by portoletto and of course he was
never going to finish in that that position anyway but i it's hard to say like
from a great quality being up there
that killed his race immediately as soon as he just punted out
he got what he could out of a Williams
and much stronger than his teammate so
yeah gone for a seven for Carlos
lovely stuff the fans gave him a five
they gave him a five
fair enough should have not been yeated round by another driver
yeah how dare he shouldn't have been there
Maybe there's a little bit of downgrade tax for the run of form and errors he's been.
Yeah, I said this, didn't I?
In the last time that Carlos is kind of becoming a bit of sort of...
Lance Strull of driver ratings where he just gets...
Yeah, it gets...
Like needless hate for where...
And people are not really noticing when he's doing something.
Well, we're noticing Carlos.
Come back on the podcast soon, please.
Yeah.
Right, moving on to Alex Albon.
Started 18th, did not finish.
Gone for a five for Alex Albon.
Yes, he ran well earlier, but messed up in qualifying.
Of course, the retirement wasn't his fault,
but he didn't look particularly strong or anything special during that weekend.
And yeah, another quiet weekend for Alex Albun.
We've not really seen too much from him this year, it feels like.
No, absolutely not.
I've gone for a five as well for Alex, not on Carlos' level this weekend,
although we didn't see obviously a huge amount after he had his,
I say huge amount to be fair.
He was in for three quarters of the race, if not more.
So for Alex, a shame really.
Yeah, I'm in complete agreement that it's very small moments across the season that maybe we go,
oh, okay, Alex, yeah, you're on Carlos's level.
And that's the kind of benchmark we've now attributed to Alex is can he get on Carlos's level,
not can he beat him?
I think we saw some errors out there as well for Alex.
I think he was struggling with his breaks.
I remember seeing a replay.
I think it was the hairpin.
There was a moment way around really, really wide.
But yeah, overall, a disappointing weekend again for Alex,
and it is a shame.
Despite, of course, the start of the race, as I mentioned with Carlos,
he was running right up there,
but not able to hold on until he, of course, DNFed.
Oh, Frank, I'm sorry.
I'm sorry for upsetting you about Alex's grade.
I've gone for a five, and the fans also have gone for a five out of ten.
Okay, let's go to Lewis Hamilton.
started second,
finished third.
What a very difficult
Grand Prix for this man
and also for his teammate.
Roller coaster.
I am going to go for a
It's a 10.
I'm going for a Hamilton 10.
It's again like
it's such a shame for Ferrari
and what Hamilton put down on
the table because he put in
an amazing qualifying.
It sounds like
like from what I've seen both drivers were kind of wanting different things from what Ferrari decided to do,
which is unsurprising considering it is Ferrari.
But I just want to say that Hamilton's pace, his racecraft and everything,
I've seen so many on boards.
And sometimes, you know, you see compilations from fan accounts that post things that are just only good.
You know, they're obviously a little bit biased and things like that.
but you watch the on board from Hamilton at the start of the race
and sort of flying through the field.
And it was brilliant.
It was like peak Lewis Hamilton to have been able to bounce back from pretty much plum last,
all the way through back to third.
Of course, the safety cars helped, right?
I don't think he's finishing third if we didn't have the safety cars to bunch up the field
because they were so far behind.
But when he got the opportunity, he took it with both hands.
And I love Charlotte Claire deeply, as you know.
I will support him.
I want to see him win a world championship.
But Hamilton cooked him this weekend.
Hamilton was the much faster Ferrari driver across qualifying as we saw,
but then also in the race as well.
He just looked like he had a handle of that car that Charlotte Claire didn't.
I know there's mention of setup and things like that.
But sometimes you just have to put your hands up and say, fair play.
I can't defend my driver.
Hamilton did a better job this weekend.
And what a brilliant driver it was.
It was a fantastic drive from Hamilton.
I've gone for a 10 out of 10 as well.
I don't feel like you can give Alonzo a 10 and not Lewis Hamilton.
They had very similar races in that sense that, yes,
they've been lucky with the kind of lucky in terms of,
I think they're unlucky in the first place
because, as you said in the main podcast,
I completely agree with,
you're not going to slander them for that decision to go on dry tires.
I actually watched the race back
and
you know the commentary was saying
oh is Max Verstappen made a huge mistake
for going on the inters here
and I thought that as well
because when they first came out of the pits
I was like oh no Max is screwed
and then as soon as the spray kicked up
you're like oh no actually the dry run is a screwed
so it really was marginal and I don't think
it's this crazy crazy thing
you know Hamilton was sensational in qualifying
unbelievable lap
to put it on the front row
I don't think Ferrari, you know,
for I weren't the first or second best car this weekend for sure.
And then, you know, he took the opportunity with that safety car to get back.
And he had absolutely insane pace through, flew through the field.
And, you know, he could have been a contender.
Would have definitely been on for P2.
Who knows what he could have done had he just died normally in that race.
but his pace was amazing and like you say it was like proper like classic lewis hamilton of just
slippery wet conditions him just showing his his skill and he was absolutely amazing and uh yeah second
to third does not tell the story of what a brilliant drive that was no it doesn't and another thing
to mention is the fact that the speed that he was putting down in that in those early phases when
when he was on the soft tire and committed to that was that he didn't pit under that first for uh safety car
so he was on 10 lap older soft tires
and everybody else that had pit around him
and he was still able to put down
serious speed. So
well on Hamilton, 10 out of 10. The fans
gone for a 9.
Should have put the intermediars on maybe.
Definitely. We know that but we know it was very difficult
and as much as you go
why do all the top teams always get it right?
It's the McLaren's and the Ferraris that went wrong.
Yeah, it really does feel that way.
I'm known for making some questionable decisions.
And then the Mercedes and Red Bull made the right one.
But anyway.
Moving on to Charle-Claire, started fourth, finish fourth.
I have gone for a seven out of ten for Charle-Claer.
The result of him being behind Lewis Hamilton on the road
does not tell the story at all of that race, in my opinion.
He was slower than Hamilton in qualifying.
You know, he was P5, where Hamilton,
put it on the front row.
In the race, he crashed into Holcomburg
at the start and damaged his front wing.
You look at lap 22, Hamilton's up in P6.
This is, of course, on the restart.
LeClaire's still down in 12th.
Hamilton, where he's about to pass Hadjar,
when the safety car comes out,
he's about 15 seconds clear of Shal.
I know they finished third and fourth together on the road,
but for me, their weekends in terms of, like, pace were worlds apart.
and Charle-le-Cleur, don't get me wrong,
because he always finishes fourth at the moment,
has had fourth places that are quite underrated.
I think this one, the result, has flattered him massively
compared to his teammate.
You know, seven,
I was even contemplating a six,
but he's recovered to a P4.
So I can't rate Charles anywhere near Lewis Hamilton this weekend.
He was worlds apart.
All right.
gone for a six, I'm getting in my car and I'm doing very, very bad things to you. I've gone for
a seven out of ten for Charlerc. Would have been an eight had it not been for him hitting the
Audi of Holkenberg and, you know, that was on him. As much as it's crazy conditions,
it's Charlotte, Clare's fault there. So there's a small downgrade there. But yet, the result
flatters him. It really does. Like it is a fourth to 22nd to fourth, but I think it is a seven out of
10 because he was slower than Hamilton.
As you mentioned, he was about 15 seconds behind Lewis before the lap 43 safety car came out.
And I was watching, like for most of it, of course, you know, I'm looking at the whole race picture,
but there's, of course, a vested interest for me to look at Charlotte Clair's pace.
And I'm like, he's not catching him.
Like even when Hamilton was on the mediums, which wasn't the better tire than the softs,
he was still not able to catch him.
He had another fresh set of soft tires, Charlotte-Claire for this race as well.
He also had the advantage of the Botas moment that he could, he was on inters and then could get the, obviously, the free pit stop.
Exactly.
He had 10 that fresh and soft times in Hamilton.
He would have then had to do the crossover where Hamilton could stay out on his softs.
So, yeah, it's funny because I do remember you saying in the watch long, there was one point in the middle of the race where Hamilton was doing really well, LeClaire was pretty much nowhere and you were like these kind of crazy conditions where it's like a wet to dry.
it always feels like it's all going wrong for Charlotte Claire, it feels like.
Yeah, I just know it's all over when it's raining.
So those are the reasons I've downgraded him compared to Lewis.
It's still a solid recovery drive.
Don't get me wrong.
Really difficult conditions.
Just wasn't as quick as Hamilton.
So I think a seven fits quite nicely, I think, for what we've seen from Charleclair this weekend.
And, yeah, third and fourth is just utterly ridiculous, considering where they were after the first few laps.
The fans gave Charlotte Claire an 8 out of 10.
I call me the fan boy.
One great apart from Hamilton is a choice.
Isaac Adjah started 8th, finished fifth.
I'm going to go for a 7 out of 10 for Isaac Hadjar and no higher.
We're opening up the debate again about this Red Bull second seat because this is the thing.
This is the thing we keep banging on the drum about.
the fact that, yes, Vastappan is the benchmark.
For Stappan is probably the best driver on the grid.
So there's always a consideration there.
But Hagear was nowhere near Vastappan's pace.
Absolutely nowhere near.
Like it was a great result.
He had some battery problems, I think, at the end of the race.
Although I'm also considering whether Hamilton just changed his deployment for that final sector,
because they do have different strap modes and things like that.
It's tough to really know, but it did look like Hagear was lacking something at the end.
because his defensive driving on Hamilton in that initial phase was great.
He was placing the car in the right position.
Hamilton wasn't really able to get through.
So there's definitely some positives there.
Hadjar able to do enough with the Red Bull to be able to score some good points,
was close to the podium as we know.
But I just want to make it very clear that he was absolutely nowhere near Vestappen
in qualifying or the race.
Vestappen needs an 11 out of 10 realistically,
but he can't get that this year apparently.
I don't know, we're not doing that.
But for Hadjar, a 7 out of 10, maybe the race is today.
This one is the one.
But for Hadjar, it's a 7 out of 10,
and it's slightly flattered by the fact that the Red Bull was maybe the best package.
But either all, as I said before,
I like the fact Hadjar is very honest about the fact he's next to the goat,
whatever he wants to call it, the best driver, whatever.
But yeah, he'll want to.
to close the gap, that is for sure, but still some solid points for Hadjar in his second season.
Indeed, I've gone for a seven out of ten for Hajar as well. It's back to being that kind of
like solid result, but nowhere near match for Stappen. And as we said in the qualifying roundup,
you know, the gap of over four tenths, he's third and you think, wow, we don't see the
Red Bull obviously had the grid drop, but he actually qualified.
third, that gap of over four tenths puts 15 cars between him and Max last season.
And yes, he was doing a good job. He had a great start, particularly compared to Vastappen,
but he's 30 seconds behind Max at the VSE.
Clearly there was, it does feel like there was some kind of, sorry, well, the VSC and safety
car, yeah, because it was VSC first and then safety car. But yeah, but yeah, that moment in the race.
and yeah there's clearly some kind of battery issue or something not quite right at the end
which lost him a couple of positions to the ferrari's but still you know even that aside
nowhere near max must happen and there's always this debate with hadjar and this is why
you know i've seen some people racing him really highly this year and thinking that he's on a
really really good job and others um you know sometimes we get some criticism saying we're too
harsh on him i get that there's maybe not that level of expectation um
for like what the second red ball driver should be doing and he shouldn't be beating max but
and this comes from someone that on you we all know lord to max has happened but like he should be
close to him occasionally you know max does have off days rarely but but it can happen and he's not
completely you know invincible so yeah he's just not quite there at the moment um
But it's still early days, but it's still solid from Hadja.
And it's a seven out of ten.
We're not slandering him or anything.
But you just have to look at the kind of gap between him and his teammate and think that maybe, yeah, the performances and the results and the points that he's scoring this year, maybe flatters him a little bit.
With the, you know, he's got the dream ticket this year at that Red Bull for sure to go into it at this time.
Yeah.
And I think the reason why we bring it up is not to bring Hadjar down.
it's just to kind of do a solid for the other second drivers that have been and gone
in the fact that Hajar isn't this incredible second, you know, the second seat curse is gone.
It's just circumstance.
And sometimes that 410th gap is first to third and sometimes it's first to 17.
Like that's just how it has happened and how the seasons have changed along the way.
So the fans gave Hajar as 7 out of 10 as well.
Max for Stappen, started first, finished first.
I've gone for a 10 out of 10 for Max Verstappen.
What year is it?
I know, what year is it?
That's what a lot of people were saying, you know.
He looked unbelievable this weekend, you know, his pace in qualifying to get pole position.
No non- like Mercedes Power has got a pole position this year.
But it really did look, never in doubt that he was going to get pole position that whole session.
And then had the bad start.
of course, but he managed to recover, made it look easy, kind of passing the Mercedes.
You know, the Red Bull is looking a lot stronger they did at the start of the year.
But Max is very good at making things almost like just seem like, oh, well, of course he was
going to get past the Mercedes because he's Max.
But like, you know, his teammate, we've just been talking about is 30 seconds down the road.
So the Red Bull wasn't, you know, absolutely miles ahead and had just finished P2.
Yeah, great, great recovery to get back past the two Merck's,
battled really well and just looked so, so good that whole weekend.
And yeah, great to see him win again.
I have also gone for a 10 out of 10 for Max Verstappen, unsurprisingly.
It was flawless, really.
from the start where of course he fell behind but we know how the red ball can be this year
sometimes off the line and perhaps with the slightly slippery conditions and everything we know
about software who knows you know he drops he drops down but he recovers amazingly and
these are the conditions that suit max the most the ones where confidence is is more than anything
really in these sort of wet to dry conditions
and finding the line, finding where the grip is.
Max is able to do that so, so well.
And yeah, he would have won by a big old margin
had it not been for the safety car bringing the pack back together.
There's no other grade.
It's a 10. Well done, Max.
Enjoy the money.
The fans also gave him a 10.
Wow, look at us.
All in the Greenland.
Started third, finished second.
I'm going to go for an eight out of ten for Kimmy Antonelli.
Good enough weekend.
All he needs to do to win the World Championship,
that was even without George Russell having that DNF right at the end.
I don't know how much to put down to...
I think the Red Ball with Max was the best package.
We saw that almost throughout the entirety of the weekend.
But Antonelli was still able to put in a great quality performance, I would say,
considering you look at where George Russell qualified
and only had one shot in Q3
after his small mistake
with track limits in the previous qualifying session.
So he still had great one lap pace
and then in the race as well.
There were moments where George looked quite quick
but I think Kimmy ultimately
was understanding the tyres a bit better
and looked like the faster Mercedes driver
if you average it out over the course of the weekend.
So yeah, it was decent and obviously ended up with a nice P2.
Wasn't near Max, but I don't think anyone was going to get close to Max.
They were saying that, weren't they, throughout the weekend after qualifying.
Yeah, the race is between about six of us, but just not Max.
Max will be gone.
So, yeah, a solid weekend from Kimmy, and I've gone for an eight.
I have gone for a nine out of ten for Kimmy Antonelli.
Yeah, I think the Mercedes was second best that weekend.
P4 in qualifying.
while Russell was all the way down in 8th was the faster Mercedes.
And I think, you know, I'm going to defend my boy here.
He has been, he's starting to get incredibly underrated with what he's doing this year
because people are like saying it's so lucky.
And people are acting like that Mercedes is like 2014 levels of dominance when it's just not.
And you look at the season that Kimmy's like putting together.
and stuff and even races like like this where he's like Mercedes didn't look particularly
strong this weekend we saw that in the hands of George Russell particularly in qualifying they
weren't poor of course but he's finished second on the road which is still a very good result
and you know not done all too much wrong and yeah I think he's actually just being almost
like quite underrated just because he's going to win this world title now by such a big margin
feels like and people don't like that and they're almost like undermining what what he's doing because
you look at this season and it's probably only Azerbaijan is the only race where he's just been
a bit all right like a bit meh whereas every other race he's been really strong at and like I say
I don't think that Merck is anywhere near the like 2014 levels that that we were kind of seeing and
particularly at the start of the year and yeah you know he made a great start led the early stages
was never going to beat Max as you say
and bagged a P2 with a really great drive
so yeah I've gone for a 9
The fans gave Kimmy an 8 out of 10
George Russell started 7th finished
well classified 20th
I think it was classified
Yeah he did get classified because it was right at the end
I've gone for a 7 for George Russell
It was a poor qualifying for him
To be all the way down in P8
He didn't have the pace of Antonel
and I
before I go on a little bit of a rant
I want to make very clear that I do feel sorry
for George Russell for that retirement
and the season that is having
you know it's not going well for him
it must be absolutely gutting the fact that you know
he's he's now seeing a teammate after
you know being really really strong
dominating Kimmy Anthony last year
seeing what's kind of happening
and knowing that this would have been a huge chance
him to win the world championship.
But I feel like there's a weird narrative going around
after that race in particular of like comparing that DNF
to like Hamilton in 2016.
And even Formula One shared like a video where George Russell breaks down
and it's like, here's the championship connotations
and it showed how it changed.
And I think we need to stop pretending that George Russell is losing
this world title because he's having bad luck and Kimmy's having all the luck in the world and it's
not the fact that Kimmy Antonelli is just absolutely owning him pretty much every single weekend and
you know George has maybe been faster than Kimmy like three times over the year which is not enough
to win the world championship. Kimmy's had bad luck as well you know two race ending retirements essentially
if you want to call the Silverstone won a retirement
just completely like ruined his race when he was going to win.
And yeah, you know, I feel sorry for George that he's had this problem,
but, you know, let's not not pretend that that's the reason
he's going to be losing this world title to Kimmy.
And I feel like just because of George's had some bad luck now,
it feels unfair on Kimmy to run this narrative of like,
this is why George is losing the title.
Oh my God, Mercedes want Kimmy to win.
all this kind of stuff and taking away the fact that the Kimmy's just been absolutely
brilliant this year. And I think it's really unfair to take that away from him,
from kind of what we've seen from that retirement and just generally with the kind of
thing going on with George Russell at the moment.
Yeah, it's a fair point. Let me dive into that before I go for my grade for George.
I am of the same opinion that Kimmy Antonelli is the deserving world champion
should he be the world champion come the end of the year.
He's been better than George, more consistent and deserves a championship lead.
I can also on the flip side understand not the narrative that,
wow, George is losing the championship because of reliability,
but I do understand where George deserves to still be in with a shot of the world championship
if he's able to put together an amazing end to this season.
Like, realistically, if you factor in some of the points that George has lost,
and let's not forget, you know, he's also had power unit issues.
And I know Mercedes have said some of it's driving, some of its power unit.
But there's been a lot of things that, you know, because of these regulations where there have been Kimmy, DNFs, George DNFs, George issues, whatever.
You know, the gap wouldn't be 84 points if we put luck on as, you know, completely even between the two.
But this is Formula One.
I still think it'll be about 70.
There's never...
Okay, wow.
I don't think it's 70.
I don't think it's 70.
I don't think it's less than that.
I do.
I think, you know, you factor in...
Canada, like, at the end of the day, George Russell's had...
But I think people think about luck as well in terms of team strategy, things that have, you know,
George, for example, in Monaco was a disaster.
Like, there are things that I think George slightly luck adjusted.
But this is insane, right?
this is F1.
No one gets equal luck.
Luck adjusted, I think he's around 50 to 60 points behind.
But that again is like, it's like, oh, George Russell was so in Monaco.
He qualified six while his teammates on pole.
So like, do you know what I mean?
That's not going to help him.
He doesn't have many points today and stuff.
Yeah.
So like I think I'm trying to be sensitive to what, you know, people are also saying in
terms of George's had more bad luck.
And yes, perhaps he has over the course of the whole season.
But Antonelli is fully, well, yeah, exactly.
what might be coming from Singapore onwards
in terms of the power unit allocation.
But I am still on...
So yeah, I'm slightly more sympathetic
to the narrative, but I am still on your opinion, Tommy,
that Kimmy is the deserving world champion.
If George Russell, and this is if,
buts maybe is whatever,
goes on a seven race win streak now
and closes the gap up,
maybe we open up the conversation
of exactly what is the luck adjusted score.
But right now,
Right now he's losing more and more points,
some of it due to DNF,
but it's not like he's running ahead of Kimmy.
It's not like he's winning and beating Kimmy.
Yeah, if he was leading in Kimmy,
was nowhere and he retires and you go.
Oh my God, he's going to go on this amazing run.
He was behind him again.
Yeah, he was going to lose three points.
He was going to lose three points to Kimmy.
The gap was going to be 69, I think,
if it hadn't been.
So, yeah, but let's see how the rest of the season goes.
But from what we've seen,
Kimmy has been the deserving.
championship leader.
Anyway, to my score, I've gone for a seven for George Russell as well.
So, of course, qualifying is a big downgrade for him because he just wasn't on Kimmy's pace.
But I would say he had a reasonable race.
Of course, he got ahead of Kimmy at one point when Kimmy and Max were fighting and looked
racy up until the point of Kimmy going down his inside and we were like, oh, oh, we're not
defending that, are we?
Okay, fine.
but overall I don't think I can give any more than a sort of one point swing between the two of them
and as I've locked in an eighth for Kimmy I'm going to go for a seven for George because his Sunday was better
but yeah just didn't quite have that 10th or two to really mount a charge until of course inevitably
his reliability issue kicked in so a seven for me the fans gone for a seven as well
Oscar Piastri started sixth finish sixth
I've gone for a seven out of ten for Oscar Piastri.
I think he quietly had a really good drive considering the terrible strategy call
that happened with McLaren.
Really good in the sense of like, what a comeback.
I've seen, you know how I mentioned earlier about fan edits?
I've seen people trying to push the narrative that Oscar Piastri is passing seven cars in one lap
because he's the greatest of all time.
I saw that video.
It's really cool.
Don't get me wrong.
Like, it's an amazing video for Oscar,
and I love to see him flying through the field.
But they were all on soft tires for crying out loud.
He was on inters.
But it was the right call from Oscar.
He was the one to say to McLaren,
nah, mate, these tires are not going to work in these conditions.
And it paid off for him because he was then 10th
by a matter of however many laps it was at the beginning.
But then I also want to note that he was going to beat Charles Lecler,
had it not been for that final safety car, easily.
Because he was flying on those hard tires.
And he's very unlucky that the safety car came out when it did.
Because he was going to breeze past Charlecler.
And God knows what would have happened in the last 12 laps.
Because his pace was really, really good.
Maybe he would have even caught Hadjar.
We don't know.
Because Hadjar, of course, was having a few battery problems of his own at the end.
But sadly, for Oscar, it only ended up being sixth,
because of course George's DNF.
But I just wanted to let everybody know,
especially after the controversial grade that we gave him in Baku
that I noticed, I noticed, I noticed Oscar Piastri
well, no, I did, yeah, do you not think so?
No, I'm happy with my grade.
You're happy with the four?
Or whatever you gave him a four, yeah.
Yeah, okay, well, I gave him a five.
Yeah, fair enough.
I think you gave them two apart.
Yeah, I understand the outrage from Baku,
and I would like to say I see you guys in the comments,
but this is a different one,
and I think it was a good drive from Oscar, so a seven.
I have gone for an eight out of ten for Oscar Piastri, much more like it from him.
I will give him a higher grade than I've given the likes of Charlerc.
As you say, you know, catching Charleclair at the end, great pace, made the call to put the inters back on.
And yeah, it's difficult to compare between the two drivers because it seemed like Lando is still having these
issues down the straight and stuff.
But Oscar looked, you know, strong and the fact that, yeah, if we hadn't have had that
VSC, it's what might have been because he was catching LeCler.
And it was a really good recovery drive.
Such a shame that they didn't get to start the race and see how they could have mixed it
because the McLaren's and the Ferraris are so weird how, again, like we were talking about
how difficult it is to grade them because they've started way at the back, but then as we know,
particularly this season, they're always going to fly through the field anyway. So a lot of it
is hard to kind of understand with the actual result because they're always going to end up
there anyway and passing the midfielders. Absolutely. The fans gave Oscar a seven out of 10.
Lando Norris started fifth, finished ninth. I've gone for a four out of 10 for Lando Norris.
the fact that yeah he seems slower than oscar though again there's this whole issue with
potentially lingering over from from backer that he feels like he's losing a lot of time but that
doesn't is potentially is confirmed no it's confirmed okay he's losing a tenth or two a lap losing
because of vengeance in power so losing losing time on on the straight but that doesn't excuse him
almost plowing into the back of his teammate for for no reason um
you know, he, it's not even a case where like people, it's like halfway down the straight, as we mentioned in the podcast where he's kind of been caught out.
You know, he's going into that breaking zone.
Seems just a complete lapse of concentration.
I saw him like an Instagram reel, actually, that was of his own moment.
And the audio had, it was something along the lines of him just like not really paying attention.
It was like a la la la la.
thing, no?
Like, or something like a, I don't know.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
And then, and then he, obviously just avoids his teammate.
Could have so easily gone into the back of him.
And you know, that silly error costs him more points,
and he's actually very lucky that he can recover,
get back on the track, very marginal with stroll,
I think, whether he should have even got a penalty for, like,
kind of repassing.
It's such a great area of when people go off behind the safety car
of when you're allowed to rejoin anyway.
but thankfully for him
he's kind of flattered by the fact that he's got a great car underneath him
that's clear of the midfield and can gain some more places
because it could have easily cost him some points.
So yeah, disappointing for Lando.
I've also gone for a four out of ten for Lando.
Yeah, the engine issue that they've got
is obviously something that is playing on his mind
because he's not happy at all when he's talking about that
and fair enough if you're losing time on the straight,
it must be really, really annoying.
And what a sort of turn of events for Landau's championship.
Like, he's not trying to actually win the championship now,
but you know what I mean?
Like in terms of he was going on these amazing run of wins
and looking like the driver to take on Kimmy Antonelli
and all of a sudden McLaren have fallen off in terms of pure pace.
You've got Landau making mistakes as well.
And it's amazing how quickly things can change.
But yeah, the big, obviously downgrade is him nearly,
smashing Oscar Piastri and I put it completely down to laps of concentration as well.
I know that George Russell's come off to the side and they've concertined it a little bit into
turn one but it's a safety car.
It's turn one as well.
Exactly.
They're always going to go a bit slower there anyway.
But yeah, there's no sort of excuse there.
I think that's just more of the reason as to what it happened.
But yeah, it's a four out of ten.
Lost some points there because he was of course running behind his teammate until
that mistake and then could not pass the goat Fernando Alonzo.
Speaking of the goat, Fernando Alonzo, it looks worse on Lando
when you watch the fan footage of it because they are just in the breaking zone
and he just completely misjudges it.
But what is funny that I saw some people share is when you see Lando go into the gravel,
Fernando Alonzo sees it and he goes so hot into the corner that he actually locks up
because he knows this is his opportunity to overtake Lando while he's in the gravel
and he's almost like pushing Larson to say like,
hurry up, we can get past him here. Go, go, go, go.
So that's a funny moment.
He sees an opportunity.
Oh, yeah, he's a wily old fox, isn't he?
But yeah, I think I've mentioned in the podcast,
but I'm surprised that there wasn't any kind of investigation or note from race control
about Lando.
He was behind Lance Stroll, in my opinion.
It's very close when you look at the replay and also see the,
the fan footage where like he gets back on the track and it's the case of like
and there doesn't seem to be a set rule does there of like when you rejoin a track
where's the measure where's the measure because if he'd been on the outside and rejoin the
track he's on the outside line and straw's going to be ahead of him but because he was on
the inside he could kind of just take the corner yeah and stay ahead so gray area gray area
very much a gray area uh the fans gave lando norris a four out of ten as well so finally
who was our P1?
For me, it has to be Max Verstappen,
as much as Hamilton had a phenomenal Sunday,
and to be fair, also Saturday,
and Fernando Alonzo did Fernando Alonzo things.
It has to be Max Verstappen,
because just the entire weekend,
he looked unstoppable,
and he delivered on that.
So Max is my P1.
Yep, three goats for three tens,
but it's got to be Max Verstappen.
What a ridiculous weekend,
like absolutely dominated the weekend.
And just, if it hadn't have been this season and how much sort of bad luck and pessimism that I've had, you'd say never in doubt, because he just looked completely untouchable this weekend.
Certainly did.
There you go.
Tommy, your prediction is finally wrong.
Thank goodness.
I do love the people are.
As Connemour mentioned in his latest video.
Yes, Connemour, another impression of Tommy.
Where's the Mac?
Come on.
impression.
We need to see it.
I don't think I want to see it, to be honest with you.
But Connor, when you do it, I'm sure I'll watch it maybe behind a sofa.
But what was I going to say?
I was going to say about, yeah, your prediction.
Some people think that you're talking about losing a point in the main predictions,
but you're obviously talking about the pre-season predictions.
Because I think people are thinking that because I went for Max P1 and then therefore you'd be wrong.
But also that.
That too.
But like.
It's a good job.
You nearly tricked him into being like, give me five points.
And I was like, thinking about it.
Oh, wait, let's go back into the footage.
Maybe there was a small little guess that happened.
Okay, there we go, everybody.
Thank you for tuning in.
We're straight back to it.
Singapore, Sprint weekend.
Lots of action coming your way and lots of content, lots of podcasts.
Look forward to it.
And we'll see you very soon.
Tommy, final thoughts?
What a, well done, Malaysia.
Well done Bahrain for putting on a race in Malaysia.
Yeah, thank you, Bahrain.
That was like, what a weekend.
incredible, incredible to see Malaysia again and boy did it deliver.
Absolutely. We'll see you very soon. Lots of love. Bye.
Goodbye.
