Hello everyone and welcome back to the P1 podcast.
Today we have a very special audio exclusive, full-length,
Daniel Ricardo, sensational content.
I sat down with him before Zandvort,
so he was actually, yes, unharmed then, the poor bloke.
We wish him a speedy recovery with his hand.
But we basically asked lots of different fan questions,
and some of them are absolutely brilliant.
So here's the full thing. Enjoy.
We are here today with Daniel Riccardo and enchanté billboard.
And today we are going to be doing fan, Q and A.
Yes, your questions have been submitted for this man.
And I cannot wait to share them with you.
Are you ready?
I am ready.
Yeah?
You look beautiful.
Oh, stop it.
Is that because of just everything?
Yeah, enchanté out now.
Right, here we go then.
The first question is from Rosbergh, Kour.
Favorite Taylor Swift's soul
Our song
The first song I heard of hers
I think it was like
It was a long time ago
I was still in school
Ooh, I'm pretty sure
It must have been like
Well I just
Anyway, it was like 2006, 2007
Hopefully it was out by then
With how quickly you answered that
Are you a Swifty
Well, so I remember the night I heard it
I was on my way to a nightclub
So I just started clubbing no
So I must have been finished school
It must be like 2008
and a buddy played it
and it was kind of like
meant to be just a bit of fun
because we're going to a nightclub
and it's not normally the music you listen to
go on a nightclub and you'll maybe 18 years old
but I remember like oh cool
and that was the last
ten of a song you listened to it
yeah
no I know some other songs
but our song do you know that song
sing it for me
well I was riding shotgun with my hair
undone in the front seat of his car
there's a nods going around the room
on the steering wheel
The other arma, ha.
Amazing.
See, my Taylor Swift one is love story.
That's the first one I had.
And I was like, that's a banger.
Anyway, Swiftie, Daniel Ricardo.
There we go.
Come at usher.
Next question from at Ultrasoft.
Are you excited about the Vegas race at last?
Yeah.
Coming to existence.
I think it was 2017.
I asked for it.
So you're the reason.
You're the reason.
I mean, look, I don't want to claim everything, but I'll claim like 98% of it.
Yeah.
Do you actually think the track's going to be any good?
I think it will be because probably just where it is.
You know, I don't think that'll just knowing where we are and seeing all the light, the bright lights will.
If there is a corner that maybe in a big open circuit doesn't feel that good, it'll probably feel a little bit better.
How difficult was it getting back into an F1 car after?
eight months. So it was, yeah, it was, um, it's funny because immediately it felt very foreign and
difficult because a little quick explanation. Normally after Christmas, so just in a normal season,
the season ends say November and you get back in a car in February for testing. So even just
three months off, always feels like when you get back into a car at the start of a season,
you're like, oh, oh, it's always a bit like weird. So eight months felt like a long time.
So I remember like my first lap, I was a little bit like, oh, listen, this is really strange.
And it feels really fast.
But then on like probably the third lap, it all felt really familiar again.
So it quickly goes from that to that.
So what was going through your brain on that first lap?
Ow, my neck.
Not anymore after your summer camp though, good Lord.
Yeah.
Lifting some serious wades off.
Like make Rickastar.
Yes.
Next question.
At Don underscore aviation.
Have you?
Pierre Ghazli.
I have.
Have you?
Yeah.
When?
And I didn't know they were filming.
So I was in, I've done it more than once, but in Montreal.
So I wasn't on the grid yet, but it was one of the races I was attending for Red Bull.
Montreal, that was filming his arrival at the track and I could see him and I was just, I gave it a.
Pierre.
Gisley.
Good.
Is that your favorite one?
Niko Holcombobo is.
It's...
Nika, ooh.
I like the U-U-Kib, but yeah, I do like that one.
It's so good.
It's more like an uplifting one where the Hulkenberg one is just more...
It's more of a purer.
Yeah, it's an umph.
Yeah.
The artists, have you come to any others?
How do we know?
Yeah.
I'm going to stick with those still.
Valtry.
Uh.
Yeah, but that one's like...
That one's more like just a...
Yeah, it's not quite.
It's not the same.
You don't emphasize it as much.
What would you?
Who would you do?
Who would I do?
Yeah.
Whose name would you pronounce in a funny or interesting one?
No one's done you.
So I feel like that someone on the grid should do a strange pronunciation of your name.
Do you want to give me to go?
No.
Next question.
question let's move on at Kesko baby out of all the drivers on the grid who would you trust
most with a secret none of them i'd probably trust him as far as like to throw them
right i will the first name that came to mine was Vettel okay he's no longer on the grid
but that is someone if you ask me that question last year he's probably the first guy would have
said yeah um you've got to go with someone older someone who's just a little
bit more mature. I don't think kids can keep secret. No. Alonzo? Okay, Fernando Alonzo.
Oh, dear. Right. That's a half one. We'll go with Vettel. We'll pretend we're in last year.
Yeah, it's 20-22. Lerner. Benis F-1 comes in with, how were you told that you would be getting the
Alpha Tauri seat? I'd done a few laps in the Red Bull test.
And then it was then that basically Christian was giving me a heads up that that was probably going to happen.
And then, yeah, so I kind of got a pretty good idea from him.
So you got a nudge.
Did you get a phone call like when you're in the bath or something?
Daniel you're in.
Yeah, when else?
It was in an ice bath.
But yeah, then it was.
Yeah, because I had an helmet eventually.
Oh, it was helmet that gave you the call?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think so.
Yeah, it was. I don't know.
It's just how well-in-did.
It was similar. I don't want to upset anyone.
The conference school.
No, I felt the way the test was going.
I was like, okay, I think this is going to happen now.
You just drive rail out. I've still got this.
Yeah.
I got it.
My neck hurt, but everything else still really just.
Had the apex, but wow, my neck's over here.
Seriously, the first time I did turn one.
Yeah.
Because it's flat, at least on, like, Loewethers Hew in Silverstone.
and yeah it was obviously I knew like I was prepared for it we're trying to prepare for it
but it's like you just can't eight months from not doing anything like that you there's no exercise
you can do like that was literally like yeah getting up right oh that is would you say being in the
car is the only way you can truly train that yeah yeah you can then I think once you've got a
little bit of that strength you can definitely maintain it through like these neck harnesses and
that we use. So now that's what I'm doing a lot to, let's say, hold kind of that strength.
Yeah, I can see that. But it's a build it up. Thank you. Can you like flex your neck? Is that a thing?
Probably. What do you want me to do? I don't know. I don't know how you flex a neck.
It might just have like biceps like within your neck or something. Well, I believe it's really weird.
I don't think you. Wow. My God. That could lift the truck. I don't know if that could lift the truck.
This is getting weird.
It always gets weird.
Why would it not?
Why would it not be weird?
God, we are, there you go.
There's the hand on the knee.
Oh God.
Stop it.
This is going to get Peggy 18.
Right.
Next question.
At Enedge Routar.
Thoughts on the hard, medium, soft, qualifying format used in Hungary.
Well, the driver's perspective.
Um, I, I don't know.
Like, it was okay.
Um, I hadn't qualified in many months.
So it was all kind of felt new to me again.
Yeah.
So I hadn't been in it enough to have a real opinion.
Like, oh, I hated that.
It was just kind of fun for me.
Because I guess for everyone else, it would be weird pushing on the hard tire in qualifying.
Whereas for you, maybe going into it without that knowledge from that year, you were just like, I'll just roll with it.
There were reasons for me.
Yeah.
It stuck you on pole.
I don't know.
I think people liked it.
I think people liked it.
It was good from a fan perspective.
Yeah.
How about Joe Guan Yu just going fastest?
Yeah, that was.
He was on.
Yeah. He was on. And then forgot to break.
Yeah, he did. But he was good and qualify.
Yeah. At Chanson 97, if you can have a lifetime supply of anything, what would it be?
Oh, first thing that came to my head, this is, you know, I'm back in the game now. I thought of Red Bull.
Did you actually? Yeah, I did, literally. Of course, I thought, when you said Lifetime Supply, I put it a whole thing of Red Bull like, like Crapes.
Yeah.
John Moe would be.
John.
On 20.
Oh,
Nick can arrange that.
Here we go.
She's packed a lot of money.
Oh, come on.
Here we go.
The few remain being nice to
during distance.
Of course.
And next question.
At Chanson, no, that's not right.
Next question.
On the stage.
I am so hot in this.
At Soma, VRG.
Is the weight of being the most
awesome driver on the grid
hard on your shoulders?
Aw.
It's just my burner account.
I was about to say,
which questions are 100% from you.
Yeah, what you said?
I don't know how to answer.
I think it was a compliment.
Blake news.
No, I,
I'll try to answer something seriously.
I just try to,
now that doesn't sound,
I was about saying I tried to be real.
But I just try to like,
you didn't keep it real, though.
Yeah, but yeah.
So if people think that's awesome and that's cool
because I think it encouraged people,
be their authentic self.
God, that got deep.
So thank Joe and Grace for making my authentic self
cool as a cat.
It's doing my current, by the way.
Shout to Dono makes parents.
Love it.
Next question.
At no context F1M,
have you ever been sick from doing a shooey?
No, because I'm thinking the only,
so I did get sick after China,
my win in China in 2018,
but I felt I was already getting quite run down.
Like so like I remember being sick that following week with like as cold and a flu and stuff
Wasn't from the shooy. I refuse to believe it was but that's the only time where maybe there's a question mark
So I need to tell you a very quick story. So when we launched P1
We launched on Twitch as well as we do our watch along for the races and whatever and we we essentially if every thousand paying subscribers
We agreed to do a shooey
We got a 15,000 subscribers
You've done people
Uh
Yes, and oh my God, by the end, I'm not kidding.
Wait, but no, you didn't...
The world sell out.
Wait, sorry, now I'm going to show. I'm really silly.
You didn't do 15 shoeys at the same time, right?
No, no, over a period of a few weeks or whatever.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And obviously didn't clean my shoe out well enough to think,
oh, maybe there's mould growing in there.
And I've gone...
You weren't using the same shoe.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, because I still need it.
you were my idol and
well yeah until
I felt the wrath of a shooey
you really get bad
oh very I was very ill for like
but now you've built that immunity
so you're good now yeah
iron stomach 30 shooies next time
easy yeah yeah so I thought I'd tell you that
different
I thought I was supposed to be keeping nice to you
okay all right let's
I feel like the adrenaline of a win
or a podium
eliminates all the
immune system. Bacterial? Yeah. But yeah, if I'm just like sitting on my couch or in a seat,
yeah, just pulling a shoey, yeah, I'll totally feel pretty bad. It's a win-gron-pros is the way to
delete that. Okay, perfect. And quite proud of you though. Thank you. Question from me, I want to know,
do you have TikTok? And if so, do you see the crazy edits, the first traps, all of this stuff
that are made of you? The only thing I thought was the F-1 like intro with my face on every
driver. Yes, I see. And there was my face on every driver and then there was one where I was more
so it was like it was a hybrid of me and every driver. I'm pretty funny. So good. I would say TikTok's not
good for many things, but that did give me an LOL. Yeah, gave me a big old laugh, how loud. And finally,
the final question is, and we ask every driver we have on P1, if you could check. Yeah. Oh, sorry.
Well, you know, actually taking my calls then maybe. Oh. It's fine. You're here now. If you could
one rule and F1, what would it be and why?
I feel like my answer changes over the years for this.
Because just keep it relevant.
Because part of me is like, yeah, you know, you'd make, like try to make the cars
or even and equal and that's that.
But there is something, I think there is something that we, true, like as a kid, even like
go-karting, there's always a team that you want to race for or, you know, like, oh,
they're, they're kind of better.
So my objective is to get there one day.
So I think if all the teams were the same or the same performance, as a driver it's cool because, yeah, it's even playing field, but maybe there's not that really a heightened ambition to really want to be somewhere or like.
So I don't know.
And I think for a team as well to, I don't know.
So I kind of like that there is, you know, some teams that operate better than others.
but um
so you told me
that's one you wouldn't have
but parts of it I don't know but parts of it
I don't yeah because Esteban said that he wanted
even equal cars so that because he thought
that everyone would be within a couple of tents and
yeah and for the racing it would be cool so
part of me wants that but I also think
part of F1 is to have
you know a little bit of a ranking system so to speak
so that's probably for other categories
what would I like? Sorry, I'm really dragging this one out.
Well, one thing I preferred, I prefer like the 2014-2016,
batwindle of cars that were shorter and narrower
because tracks are necessarily getting wider.
So now that it was not bigger cars, there's just less room on the tracks,
so overtaking and stuff. So I prefer those cars for overtaking and following another car.
I think that was a bit easier, even if these cars are still to follow better.
So I would change the scale of the cars and may continue again.
I like that.
Yeah.
Better racing.
Let's do that.
Well, there you go.
Thank you, everybody, for your questions.
Thank you to Mr. Daniel Rigardo.
Oh, it feels nice, doesn't it?
That's what it feels like.
Brain frazzle, you know what I mean?
Your hand's really warm.
Yeah.
Well, this is a very warm jumper.
Aw.
Thank you, everybody for watching.
We'll see you soon.
See you soon, everyone.
