Hello everybody and welcome back to the P-1 podcast with Matt and Tommy in your ears once again.
It is Christmas time just around the corner and we wanted to do one.
This is the final one of 2023, is it Tommy?
Unless Mickahackling comes back from his sabbatical and signs to Red Bull or something, then probably yeah.
But if he signs to Ferrari or McLaren, we won't report on it.
But if it's Red Bull, then absolutely.
But I hope everybody is well,
and you're enjoying the winding down before Santa visits everybody's houses
and drops off loads of presents.
And we've got a couple of things to talk about before we get into that.
I've got a five-star review, as always,
from Cog Greatest Indy Oz Band.
That's a long old username.
From Australia.
Matt and Tommy are awesome.
Their heart on their sleeve.
Okay, Matt's Tommy is a little calmer.
passionate conversation is entertaining and informative.
Bring on the 2024 season and more, Matt and Tommy.
P.S. Let's know if you're coming to the OSGP,
we'd love to meet you there.
You will know if we're going to Australia,
because it's a long old flight,
and I will be like, oh my God, we're going to Australia.
Maybe one day, hopefully.
One day, I'd love to.
I will be in some kind of Zorb football
to keep myself away from all spiders
and everything else that Australia might have to offer.
So you will just see me rolling around.
because I'd say it's quite a protective ball to keep me away from all that kind of stuff,
but I do really want to visit it.
Yeah, me too.
I'll be pushing you around in as all for, like, you're acting like there's, well,
I don't know if there is giant spiders and stuff at, like, near the Grand Prix.
We should be fine.
We're not in the out there.
I don't want to know.
If I just don't know, you know, ignorance is bliss and all that.
Yeah, fair.
Anyway, that's not what we were going to talk about today.
The first thing we need to speak about, which is some kind of Formula One news, is Salba's new name, which was announced through the FIA, wasn't it?
Like, was it the grid graphic thing, the team name thing?
Yeah, so they have to, every team has to essentially register their name, which not, it's not always exactly as it's going to be, which we'll get into later, because there's another team that we think is going to change as well that haven't.
But, and of course as well, like, we call Ferrari Ferrari, but in the past Ferrari have been called like,
Scooter Rear Ferrari, Malbara and things like that and, you know, all sorts of, all sorts of things.
And teams have had all sorts of long, crazy names before.
But this one in particular was a bit like, wow, that's the name.
And the name was Stake F1 team, Kick Salber.
Hmm
It sounds
I think the best thing about it
So obviously
Steak and Kick are the same
Under the same umbrella aren't they
Yeah
That's like their title sponsor
But just the wording of it
Makes it sound like a headline
Like a news story
Stake F1 team
Kick Salber
Out of Formula 1
Yes
Well I guess soon it would be
Audi F1 team
Kick Salba
Oh God
I don't even know
Hey that's good one
Tommy that's far too witty
at the end of the year.
But well done, mate.
Appreciate it.
Now, there was,
not just our thoughts,
but everyone in the world
had an opinion on this one.
And it kind of leaned quite heavily
towards the negative side of things.
I think I tweeted saying
it's the worst F1 team name ever.
Lots of people were agreeing
and saying their own thoughts.
I think you said something similar as well,
didn't you tell me,
where it just was one of those names
where you went, really?
Is this actually?
what kind of pull these sponsors have for the name that we're going to see.
It's the kick Salba bit really is bizarre to me.
Because it's not been...
KF1 team Salba.
Steak.
Yeah.
It's kind of like a...
You can tell they've got two brands that they want to get in the name.
But I think that's the confusing bit that you thought they would be Salba.
But they've now posted more that this.
might not be the case, but the thing that they're officially registered for is that name,
and my God, is it a mouthful? Just a very bizarre, a bizarre team name to sort of have. But I think
there will be a shorter version of it that they're probably going to announce from the sound of it
based on a recent tweet of theirs. And that tweet was, or the graphic they put out, was,
it seems our recently released team name has been getting a lot of attention. While we're not ready to
unveil the final result yet we are aware of what's at stake.
Rest assured, we're on a mission to unleash the most exciting team identity this team has
ever seen. Gone are the days of the short and sweet. We're cooking up a feast.
Right. So there's a lot of critic clues. Yeah, well, yeah, that's, that's, that's one thing.
Throwing in a steak there, you know, I see what you did there. Well done. You know, that's really clever.
It's not spelt steak.
No, yeah. But I know the pun, but it's not spelt the same as a steak, is it?
No, no, no. What do you mean? It's as the same as a sponsor, steak?
Yeah, I know, but they're saying, we're cooking up a feast like the steak joke and doing...
Oh, I didn't know if they were linking that, but I just meant because they're throwing in the sponsor name again into a graphic way.
They're basically like, hold on, hold on, it's not a problem. Trust me.
And I do wonder whether they went with that name, saw the outcry, and then went, should we say?
say that we've not actually completed and finished the name that we're going to race with
and maybe trim this down a little bit considering the reaction that we've seen.
But also that final line, gone of the days of the short and sweet,
makes it sound like we're doing an even longer name.
It's going to be called Stake F1 Team, kick Salber F1 team, future Audi or something
like really bizarre.
up Salba F1 team.
Yeah, really odd.
Yeah.
Yeah, interesting to see what they go with there.
My first thought was they'll just probably just end up being called steak F1 team.
But for all the roasting of it, as a livery nerd, at least, there'll probably be something
cool and different from that side because essentially they're not going to just be red from
Alfa Romeo.
We saw that quite garish kick livery, didn't we?
Was it Belgium?
the green and black,
which looked horrendous on an Alpha-O-Maya,
but I think it would actually look quite cool
if it was just black and green,
and it's something a bit different.
But, yeah, it's going to be interesting
to see what they go with,
but, yeah, in my head, I just kind of,
I'd always just thought they were just going to go back to Salba,
but that's, but I guess, like, yeah, team names want.
Stake Salber F-1 team, beautiful, double-est,
don't worry about kick.
You can put it all over.
over the car. Why do you have to call it it as well? But you actually make a good point about this
statement, which is now sort of my eyes have locked onto it and gone, what does it even mean?
Which is the gone are the days of the short and sweet. That makes no sense. I don't understand
what they could possibly be alluding to. All I can think of is like that they are like,
well, short and sweet, like, I don't know. There's short, short names are gone. Now we're going to be
called, yeah, steak, Formula One team, kick, Sauber, Peter Salber, Audi, full stop, capital letter,
I don't know, like something really random.
Anyway, so I'm sure you'll let us know your thoughts as well on social media.
Matt P1, Tommy, if you haven't followed us on social already.
But there was also some more chatter around Alpha Tauri,
because they were on the entry list as Scuderia Alpha Tauri R.B, which is expected
to be racing balls.
I do love how they literally have
RB in their name.
No, it's not a second team. We are an
independent. We are also known as
Skudorria Alpha Tauri RB. You may as
call Team 2.
Yeah. And I mean, racing
balls, we have alluded, you know, touched on it
in the past when it first
started to be
rumoured, but
why?
Racing
Bulls, please
know that can't
Can anyone just do a good team name anymore?
I would rather than they be called Red Bull 2 than racing balls.
It really, I've said this before, but if anyone used to play, and there's probably better examples.
To be fair, you've only said this in the live show, so not many people have heard this.
Oh, okay, you know what I'm going to say, don't you?
If anyone ever played Pro Evo before they had the licensing and you had like David Deckham and all these players and stuff that were like officially unlicensed,
that sounds like if they did like a budget f1 game where they couldn't afford the licenses red bull would be called racing balls and then you'd have like italian red team and stuff like do you know what for ferrari yeah exactly so racing balls just sounds like such a poundland red bull team um it's terrible really but it's super cheesy uh it sounds like it's been made up by five year old um but but
somehow is not worse than steak F1 team kick salver.
No, it's not because that is just, that's just a bunch of words put together,
whereas at least, I was going to say they're trying.
I don't know if they're trying or not, but either or we'll see if they're actually
going to be called racing balls, because if they are, that's, that's crazy.
And I don't know.
I don't know. I don't know.
I dislike it to the level of stake F1 team kick Salber in some ways.
Torosso is right there, just go back to Torosso.
Because that doesn't have its own identity, in my opinion.
Like, racing balls literally just feels like the throwaway version of Red Ball.
And I don't know.
It's really weird as well that, like, surely they can be called Alpha Tauri as a team or Torrosso or something.
And then they did this before.
Like, it was called Toroso, but it had the Red Bull logo all over it.
So, like, racing balls just, it does sound like a knockoff brand.
It's really, really bizarre.
So I don't get it personally, but we'll see.
We'll see how they go.
But then again, at least it's like something different to look forward to in the new season
that at least the car might look a bit different because we've not had any driver changes
or anything like that.
So, yeah, it would be a talking point.
It certainly will.
That kind of concludes the news.
I don't tell me what he wanted to.
The worst Formula One offseason ever, where literally the only driver that was under threat was Legan Sargent.
And they were like, he's fine.
What I will say is, for those of you that have listened or watched the Daniel Ricardo road trip that we did, Patreon got the full 40 minutes.
It's also on YouTube 20 minutes.
And I think audio, you also got the full 40 minutes.
There was a part in the chat where we spoke about Danny's love of.
Rancho Cucamonga.
And there was someone in the comments that said,
oh my God, I grew up in Runcho Cucamonga.
And I actually sent it to Danny Rick on Instagram.
And then he replied today.
And what did he say?
He said, he's but laughing faces and went the greatest place on earth.
Yeah.
I actually googled that after listening to it.
Tourism levels are going to go through the roof now.
I remember,
I actually Googled it after like watching the video before we released it.
And I was like, has he actually remembered that's the name of the place or is he like kind of made it at?
But no, real place.
Again, sounds like a made-up place.
Just like Racing Bulls sound like a made-up everyone team name.
Certainly does.
Now, to wrap up this podcast, I feel like we need to have a slight reflection on everything
because it's gone like, hopefully that click went through the microphone.
That was a great click.
Is that a good click?
Yeah, it was.
Tommy, stop it, you're making me blush.
I feel like a little bit of reflection is needed
because we've had the most unbelievable year
and it's all thanks to every single one of you
that listen to this podcast.
We would never have dreamed for us to be in this position
where after 10 months?
10 months, yeah, we launched in February, didn't we?
10 months.
P1 has grown to a level of which we never thought that it would be possible in this.
I mean, I don't know ever, but we definitely didn't think in this short term we would have so many of you wonderful people coming to our P1 live shows, coming and seeing us at racetracks, listening to our podcast, watching our YouTube, watching our Twitch.
It's just been unbelievable, hasn't it?
it has and it all it all just like kicked off so quickly that yeah it's it's hard to even
remember the times where we were just sat at home doing nothing I was like have I made the
worst decision ever am I going to be able to feed grace what am I doing yeah Tommy only had that
thought process I would estimate 27 times each week for the whole month um but yeah and yeah I never never
could have dreamed that, I know we said it so many times this year, but it has to be said,
like, it is unbelievable the level of support that we had, never could have imagined it.
It's been, it's been a dream come true as well. And I was actually looking back at some of the
old, old stuff. And it is, the fact that we are our own bosses now and stuff, it is, it has been
so much better. It's been everything that I could have hoped for. But one thing that is actually
hilarious is we were chatting the other day about future, what we're going to do next year and
exciting things. And I just had the urge to listen to our very first podcast because they had
nothing to listen to in the car when I went to pick up Grace. And I was like, this would be quite
funny to like listen back now after 10 months and like what our thought process was. And the two
bits to stand out for me that are really funny is one, you're on the Ferrari hype train.
and you end the podcast by going something along the lines of when Lecler
when Lecler's World Champion ha ha ha just kidding when he breaks down in the first race which
happened which actually happened you said something like conked out in the first race
and then and then we talk about about how we hope we're going to have a good season
and I make the joke that I'm going to be upset when Max wins 14 races instead of 15 and
you say something along the lines of,
oh, well, if that's it, we'll just disband the channel or something.
And it's kind of like, he won 90.
And that does go to show like, my God,
if you'd have told us the season we were going to have before we started,
we probably wouldn't have done it.
No, no, yeah.
So thank you for supporting even in this season.
That's the thing, right?
We've had the worst season we could have possibly dreamed of in terms of competitiveness to win.
And content.
like no driver changes.
Yeah.
And yet you've all stuck with us no matter what.
You've turned up in your hundreds to our P1 live show.
The fact that that many people came to Manchester, Glasgow, London to listen to us recapping the 2023 season.
My God, you are the goats.
I'll tell you that straight up.
But yes, it's just unbelievable.
And Tommy's kind of touched on it a little bit as well that we have got some very,
very exciting things planned for 2024 and not late into 2024 either.
We're going to start off with a bang.
As you may well have seen,
we're looking for a video editor and a scriptwriter.
If you haven't seen that already,
we've put them up on our social media.
And there's a email where you can apply
if you feel like you are skilled and talented enough
to join the P1 team because we'd love to have you.
But that isn't someone commented.
on, I think it was the social graphics saying,
ah, the editor's been fired because Matt and Tommy changed their driver ratings too often.
Katie, yeah, my wife Katie said that to me.
Like, she was like, why, what are all these comments about driver ratings?
And I was like, what?
And you're like, no, everyone keeps saying that the editors left.
Oh, yeah, the editors left, not fired.
Yeah.
Yeah. Which is fair.
Yes, no.
No, they haven't.
No, they haven't.
Exciting new things.
We are expanding the P1 team.
and we are going to give you more beautiful, glorious content.
You know, like how did Charlechler win the first race of the season
and things like that, because that's obviously a question
that's going to be answering when he wins by 35 seconds.
So yes, thank you.
That's pretty much it.
Like we cannot believe the year that we've had.
We cannot stress how thankful we are for this.
And we will deliver as best as we possibly can into 2024 and beyond
because we love what we do.
and we live and breathe Formula One
and I don't know what I do without it.
So it's a massive thank you from me.
Yeah, I totally agree.
I was literally thinking earlier,
I was like, my God, Formula One is just so much of my life
that it's been so weird that particularly the fact that it's been really nice
because like I mentioned earlier that we're our own bosses now
so we can be like pre-record stuff and been like,
oh, we need some chill time because it's been like,
a manic crazy year, you know, we've been hammering out, hammering out stuff and, uh, doing like
the live shows and things. And now it's kind of feels calm. But I'm also like, what, F1? What, what,
what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, it just feels so weird.
And which I guess shows that, like, you know, uh, we, we, we love it. We still love doing it.
Uh, even despite, uh, not the most enthralling of seasons, but, uh, fingers crossed.
next year, at least if the racing's not good, the silly season's going to be bonkers,
because I think like the entire grid's contract end in 2024.
So that's going to be spicy.
And yeah, got lots of things like you mentioned as well that you've kind of alluded to.
We are essentially like backing up our promise that we said of like, you know, we want to do more.
We only just started last year so we couldn't do everything we wanted to do.
But thanks to all your amazing support, we're now in that position where we can sort of try new things and do different stuff now.
So it's exciting.
And give you more and better content because that's the end goal really.
So fingers crossed Formula One gives us some of that as well so that we can, you know, have a bit of fun with it.
Please things happen.
Please things happen.
And on that note, thank you everybody for once again supporting us over the course of this year.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas or whatever you're doing over the holidays.
spend time with your family
try not to think about Max for
Stapp and winning 19 races this year
is only going to win 20
only 20 okay yeah thanks mate
really appreciate that trying to leave it on a good note
and then you went and did that you should definitely listen
to P1 with Matt and Tommy in 2024 though
even though Tommy has just said
Max is going to win 20 races
exactly just think of all the Ferrari blunders
that we can look forward to no it's not going to happen
oh maybe this is the reverse jinx compared to last year
I don't know what's going on anymore but what I
do know is that I've loved doing it with you, Tommy, as well this year, mate. It's been, it's been a
pleasure. It has. We spent a lot of time together. And we have. We spent, I literally, we have
actually seen you more in person. Yeah. I think we've seen each other more in person than we
maybe ever did in our adventure, which is kind of weird, even though we do a lot of it on Zoom,
because we've actually got to go outside, which is another thing that we said that, um, when I
look back at, yeah, the year that we've done and the things we've done, it's just insane. We've gone
outside box ticked we have we touched for us we did we got some vitamin D anyway we're waffling
lots of love everybody have an amazing Merry Christmas Merry Christmas happy New Year happy
holidays and everything else in between and we'll see you in 2024 unless we decide for whatever
reason that there's anything to talk about before 2024 but probably not I'm going to sign off
with a virtual wave a virtual wave we're waving in your ears we're waffle waving right into your
ear load erload no ear holes can you hear there if I do that
No.
But Tommy's fanning his mic and so am I.
God, we're so weird.
Bye!
Bye.
