back to the P one podcast with Matt and Tommy. Yes, it is British Grand Prix week. It is
home Grand Prix week for us too. Tommy's given it a big old wave as well at the start of this
podcast. Now thumbs up as well. No one can see you Tommy. This is only on audio, but we're giving
you all the love down the microphone into your ears very waffly as always. Tommy, are you looking
forward to this weekend? Because I certainly am. I sure am.
I'm kind of, I'm very excited, but also not prepared for how absolutely crazy it's going to be.
Yeah, it's going to be unbelievable.
It's going to be mental.
We are going on the main stage on Sunday at 11.30 a.m.
I know I say it a few times, Tommy, has it sunk into your brain yet that that's going to be happening?
No, and also you need to keep saying it just because I don't want it to be that meme where the guy's on the balcony and there's like three people going, yeah.
Yes.
If you're listening to this, please turn up.
because we are scared that nobody's going to come.
But anyway, that's fine.
We will cross that bridge when it happens.
Let's also share a five-star review, as we always do.
If you want yours to be read out,
please do leave us a five-star review.
It helps us so much to be discovered in further places
and have more people in the P1 fam.
This one comes in from boodle-boo in the USA.
Best F-1 pod in capital letters.
These bloke's no wheel.
I constantly find myself nodding along at work
and laughing at Matt's sadness
and rolling my eyes at Tom.
with snarky comments. Thanks for your contribution to the F-1 community, even if the racist
aren't as entertaining, these two will make it. Cheers. Oh, thank you so much, Boodle-Boo.
Much appreciated. I love reading these sorts of stuff because it's nice to see that people
actually see through you, Tommy, and you are snarky. Yeah, I know. You love a bit of slander.
Tommy Slander. I love Tommy Slander because there's not enough of it on the internet. But when it does
come up, my God, I lap it up. Right. Let's get into our predictions and begin.
biggest good surprise. I've gone for Esteban Okon. That's the apology. That is a simple,
look, Ocon doesn't have many stinkers. And I can smell an Ocon stinker from a mile away,
hence why I've given him biggest flop at Bahrain and Austria. But this weekend, he's going to be
back in the points. It's going to be a solid weekend for him. And everyone will go, well, that's how
you get round a track Ocon, use the correct configuration.
So that's what he's going to do.
And it's going to be a lovely weekend for him.
There's a bit of, yeah, there's more gravel, isn't there?
It's Silverstone and should be able to stay on the track, no alternate layouts for Ocon.
And yeah, I mean, are you, I hope you're not going to call the biggest good surprise
if he gets two penalties and go, well, he got four last week.
Well, yeah, as long as he gets under 30 seconds worth of post-race penalties, I'm calling
that an improvement.
These prediction loopholes are getting out of hand.
I love how you've already smelt that out and I'm like, damn it.
Absolutely.
So my biggest good surprise is Lewis Hamilton.
I knew it.
I knew you were going to say that.
You are so predictable.
And I honestly thought you were going to pick him as well.
And I know it's such an obvious prediction to go Lewis Hamilton for Silverstone.
But with good reason.
because look, he's been, even the years where he's not had a dominant car, he just whatever,
like, he always brings his A game to Silverstone, doesn't he?
And he, like, pulls out the bag.
And, yeah, you know, like, even last year when the Mercedes, they were, they were struggling a bit more than, well, a lot more than normal when they'd obviously have the domination era.
And, you know, still got second and put in a.
a really good performance and the crowd just lifts him at Silverstone doesn't it and he just
channels everything and it feels like he just puts everything into the race so it's a very
I'm not denying it's the most obvious and most predictable biggest good surprise and it's the biggest
British bias surprise as well like that is a big old oh Hamilton at Silverstone gives him extra
three tense literally unbelievable I almost
lip read you and lip synced you even
to when you said Lewis Hamilton
for audio listeners.
So, well done.
Let you do the next one.
A lip sync you.
Oh, okay.
All right, fine.
Okay, we now move to biggest flop now.
And I'm ready.
I am ready, P1 fam.
I'm off the back of a great biggest flop of Ocon.
He got the most penalties
that's ever been received by a driver ever in Formula One history.
The powers are within,
me, Max Verstappen. It's time. Now, that could easily be just a P2 at this rate. The loopholes
are out again. It is flop time for Vestappen. It's happening. It is floppy. Interesting.
I feel it in my bones, just like I felt a Ferrari one, two of my bones last weekend.
Look how well that turned out. I don't too fairly. They did it pretty good. I don't know. I didn't say
they'd finish one two, I just said I could sense a Ferrari one two. And it happened for one lap,
so it was true. True. And I know exactly how you're going to react to this. My biggest flop is
Max Verstappen. Yes. I've also gone Max Verstappen. Have we just done something? This is the first time
we've both gone for the same flop. Yes. Yeah, it is. And look, you can't really go Max's
biggest surprise because there's nowhere to go.
the only way is down for Max Lestappen.
And I can just, Silverstone is one of those races where, if it's not, he can't win every race.
And, you know, I can just see something going wrong.
The crowd's going wild.
It happened last year, didn't it?
He was going to win the race quite comfortably after he got past science, got the puncture,
than the year before.
It had the collision with Hamilton.
It does feel like maybe a bit of a bogey track.
seen it in the past that, you know, driving, like drivers that dominate, particularly the ones
that aren't British, seem to have a problem at Silverstone and you have that moment where it's like,
oh my God, like Silverstone throws up a bit of a crazy race like it did last year. And look,
even if he finishes P2, we can take it because he's, well, he's won five in a row,
wasn't he? I love how we're working together on this one. This is the first time we've worked together on a
Actually, to be fair, Ferrari-ish last weekend,
although we did have different drivers.
So we were actually actively against each other
because we were fighting as to which Ferrari driver did better.
But yes, interesting.
So you've said Max Verstappen has a bogey track.
Watch him now win by the biggest margin we've seen all year
because we've both gone for him as big as flop.
That's not good.
Okay.
We now go to pole position.
Now there is some rain forecast.
I have gone for
Lando Norris
Pole position
Get it in my veins
An unbelievable
Austria qualifying
He could have easily
positioned higher
than he did
in those qualifying sessions
Especially the sprint
When he was actually
You could see he was quite frustrated
By not challenging
I think signs for P3
That McLaren
I reckon it's got a little
summon about it now
With those upgrades
With a bit of Lando in there
A bit of changeable conditions
British Grand Prix, you think it's going to be Hamilton.
I think Lando Norris is going to come out and get pole position,
which means I probably should have put him as big as good surprise.
I'm now regretting that, but look, I'm spreading my bets here.
You're spreading your bets, yeah.
You don't, yeah, I mean, that is bold.
You can have three points if that one comes in.
Thank you.
And I'm also pandering to that prediction because I have gone for Max for Stafford
as well position again to back the easy points.
You boring, man.
You're so boring.
And look, there's other predictions.
Look, I've gone for the biggest flop.
But, and like you, I've got to...
Wait, so you're going to poll?
Well, not in qualifying.
It's going to rain.
We'll finish second in the race.
And then you'll be like, yeah, flop.
Well, look, it's raining.
And like we said before, it's raining and when it has done.
It's mad, actually, that it's predicted to rain again on Saturday.
Would that be three in a row?
Wet qualifiers, which we're.
we always pray for, and matchless-stappen's always on poll by a second, but that's why I've
gone for the easy point.
We can't do it every time.
It's worked quite well, though, because I'm only one point behind in the predictions now, so.
Oh, are you?
I wonder why.
Perhaps because I'm putting Lando Norris as pole position and you're putting for Stappon.
You're boring, man.
You could just break the easy point.
I get 30 points if that comes in.
I win the entire thing if Landon Norris going to.
poll on Saturday.
But anyway, we move on
before I get too triggered
with your staff and predictions.
Let's go to our top three.
In third position,
I have gone for Lando Norris.
He'll get pole,
he'll lose out to the Red Bulls.
He'll have good pace, though,
and he'll stick at P3.
Lovely stuff.
Wow.
Little Lando podium would be pre-epic.
I have gone for my P3,
for
you're trying to melt it on you
I don't think you'll get
no no
no
I've gone for
Carlos Science
yeah
I'm feeling a bit of quiet
yeah
so look
he's got to do it
sometime and have a solid weekend
right
I love for this is becoming
I know
he's building
like he's building his confidence
but it's just always something like a penalty or, you know, bad qualifying or whatever.
And look, he's got to get a podium soon.
And he won last year and I think he could do well.
So let's go to Carlos.
Why didn't you go last year, Tommy?
I can't remember.
What happened?
Because they didn't pick Leclair.
No.
They didn't.
Yeah, they got it right.
I asked you too many times why didn't they pit Leclair, Tommy?
You should know this by now.
No, I got confused with Hungary where they did pit Leclair.
it was wrong.
Yeah, lovely stuff.
I don't know why I asked that question, to be honest.
I now go to second place.
I have gone for Max Verstappen.
Biggest flop.
That's it.
That's it.
He won't get pole.
He won't win the race and that's a flop.
Thank you very much.
Wow.
Fair enough.
So for my P2, I've gone for Sergio Perez.
Yes.
Sorry, I'm not going to sleep there, mate.
I mean, look, Red Bull is still obviously going to do very well there.
And, look, Perez actually did a bit bad.
He just needs to improve his qualifying, doesn't he?
Because, boy, has he been a stinkering qualifying.
But, look, the last race, he kind of showed that he can mix up the front,
even though he was 20 seconds behind Verstapp and in a sprint.
so you're you're almost talking yourself out of that second place
no he will he will return to form
okay all right cool cool cool
we now go to first position
all right hear me out
I have gone for
Oscar no Sergio Perez
it's going to be a McLaren 1 3 for a second
no Sergio Perez
something's going to go wrong for Maxford staff
but it has to just purely for the sake of
the sport
It can't go smoothly every race.
Surely not.
Perez, look, it's a track that's flat.
I was going to say there's no walls,
but apparently he does like walls.
Look, he's going to get first.
I don't know how he gets it or does it,
but he's going to do it.
It's going to be a better track for him, the end.
Cool.
I have gone for my P1 for Lewis Hamilton.
Whatever.
and I love how if I predicted Max you'd be like oh god
if I predicted anyone else you're like oh god
yeah true fair I've got to I look I've gone for something different
thank you
the Stappen can't win every race
and I'm backing my good surprise in that
you know he channels everything from the crowd
pulls out the bag
you know no surprises for for
guessing that you know Max isn't in my top three
so something goes wrong for him.
And yeah, we have this battle.
And I think, you know,
Sergio Perez will be a tough person to be
if Max does have a problem
because the Red Bull is mighty
and it will be a good track for Red Bull.
But, you know, Hamilton, why not?
Why not?
Why not?
No, I like that.
I don't know why I just said as if
because, I mean, I put Lando as polls.
That's also very true.
No, no, I should be, you know, making you feel good about these crazy predictions.
I'm going to say, don't worry.
Back to Mousa step and wins everyone now.
Perfect.
Thanks so much, Tommy.
And finally, one crazy prediction.
I'm going to go with, there will be a red flag.
Okay.
Don't know why.
Something will happen.
There will be some sort of red flag.
I mean, we saw some silly shenanigans.
Was it last year?
Was it last year when we had some protesters on the track,
which somehow managed to get on there.
Yeah, and then obviously,
Jeze's insane crash as well,
as well as the red flag.
Which actually helped the situation
because those people were on track at the time.
But yeah, I think there'll be a red flag of some description.
During the race.
During the race.
Okay, dokey.
Damn it.
Why did you make me do that?
I've got to lock in a bit of extra terms and conditions just to...
No, red flag throughout the weekend.
Come on.
Oh, God.
Half a point throughout the weekend, one point for the rest.
Thanks, thank you.
You're disgusting.
We've got to get points somehow.
Yeah, true.
So my one crazy prediction is me, I say doubling down,
like tripling down on everything.
And it would be that Max Verstappen has an issue while leading.
So, you know, puncture, engine failure, something like that.
I can picture in my head already, a bit like last year.
You know, oh, my God, Zapel's got a problem.
All the crowd start, you know, you hear the crowd.
on TV and stuff and yeah, just see it, see it happening.
So we shall see.
But either way, just please be a bang of silverstone because it rarely under delivers, does it?
Well, well done, Tommy.
If it's a stinker now, we can go back to that particular moment where you said it rarely
under delivers.
Thank you, Tommy.
Look, it's got to be, it's got to be good.
It has to be, because we're there.
And, you know, we'll be willing it on.
We'll bring some water balloons to spice up the action if it's a boring dry race.
And my one additional crazy prediction that I haven't written in the sheet
is that Tommy will not pass out on the main stage at 1142 a.m.
Whilst doing P1.
But I will poop myself.
I will not be checking to see if that prediction comes true or not.
So, yeah, that is pretty much it.
For our predictions, let's know in the comments, yours.
We don't usually ask for that, but I'd like to know some of your predictions.
We do tend to put it on social, don't we, for people to share and so on and so forth.
We do. We'll have a little graphic.
So, yeah, and I think finally we should say we're looking forward to being at Silverstone.
If you're there, please come and say hello.
We can't wait to meet some of you that, for some reason, absorb our content.
We don't buy it either.
We don't bite. Tommy, bit snarky, but lovely.
He's a lovely bloke.
and we do in fact get on.
There was a comment the other day that I saw
that it was like, do you,
I don't think Matt and Tommy
actually get on. I think they just like F1.
Yeah, yeah.
It might seem that way in person as well when I'm
you know, roasting the birds and stuff.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, roasting him.
But we are lovely, hopefully.
Hopefully you find us lovely.
But we will spend time and speak to a lot of you
if you do come up and say hello.
So please do, and we'll see you very soon
for another piece of content.
Bye!
Bye!
