everybody and welcome.
We won podcast with Matt
and my doorbell.
What's a start.
Everybody and welcome back again
because my doorbell just went off
and now the doorbell has been
destroyed.
Sorted.
And we are here for the Hungarian
Grand Prix predictions.
I feel good Tommy. I feel energetic.
I feel ready for another race weekend.
A Daniel Ricardo race weekend.
But before we dive into all of that, let me share a five-star review.
This one comes in from M-Val in the UK.
I work in Antarctica.
That's a great start, isn't it?
As a glaciologist.
Now, I think we actually met this person in Silverstone.
It's a big shout out to you, M-Val.
I definitely remember chatting to you for months at a time.
And before I go, I download as many episodes of P1 as possible to listen to while I'm there.
That's amazing that we have been played in Antarctica.
Our washed opinions have even graced to that area.
of the world, Tommy.
How do you feel like that?
Unbelievable.
Like, it's just crazy.
The windy nights and bad weather days and tents
are always more enjoyable
when I have the comforting voices of Matt and Tommy
to take me back to the F1 races of the year.
Hopefully I can get P1 as the number one podcast in Antarctica.
I'll recommend it to the penguins and seals.
Their favorite driver has to be Yuki Snowda.
Good, that's a very good one.
Well, thank you, Mvow.
Big shout out to you.
I don't think there's many other podcast listeners maybe
and especially for Formula One in Antarctica, so maybe we are number one.
That blaze my mind that someone is listening in that part of the world.
I can't physically comprehend it that our voices will be played out among the penguins.
Even the penguins are thinking, God, that Tommy knows absolutely no wheel.
Yeah, the penguins are all on Twitter going, why do you hate insert my favorite driver here?
I wonder what the penguins thought of Abu Dhabi 2020.
Anyway, right, let's dive into our pretty little.
shall we? Starting with
biggest good surprise.
All right, hear me out.
I've gone for
Daniel Ricardo.
And here you go for it.
Annie Rick, my boy, he's back.
Yay, had a couple of years
of terribleness at McLaren.
Forget that. He's back.
He's rejuvenated.
He's reinvigorated.
I'm feeling it every...
Well, 50% I'd say are also feeling
it, him potentially bouncing back.
And I don't know, I feel like the expectation for him is not that high.
I've seen a lot of people writing him off going,
oh, he's going to get knocked out in Q1, he's going to start 20th,
he's going to get smashed by Sonoda.
No, Danny Rick, biggest good surprise.
You are so hyped for Danny Rick's return.
It's amazing.
I love this man.
You do.
We all do.
It's amazing what him coming back has done,
even though he's going to be driving arguably the worst power on the grid.
So it just shows how desperate we are for a bit of spice this season.
And that spice has come in.
So I guess we're going to find out.
But it's going to be interesting.
I did think you'd back down here, Rick.
I could see it.
You could see it in my eyes.
I could see it.
My biggest good surprise, I have gone for a regular member of our predictions podcast.
I've gone for Esteban Okon.
and he's had a bit of a shocker the last couple of times
that you know what I'm thinking here.
I'm thinking Monaco, Hungary is Monaco without walls.
And he best he was good.
He won there as well.
Pretty sure he outqualified Alonzo last year as well,
which is no mean feat.
So I think Ocon's going to be good round here.
I could see Alpine surprising a few people.
Just this track, I feel like, will be suited to them.
That's my logic here.
and I think it will be one of those where the whole,
because of the nature of Silverstone
and then going to somewhere like Hungary,
we could have the whole thing change from P2 downwards.
Spoiler out.
I wonder who you've gone for P1.
We now go from Biggest Good Surprise to the largest floppy.
I don't know why I changed here.
I just wanted to change it up a little bit
and make it sound horrendous at the same.
time. The biggest flop I have gone for, Yuki Sonoda. So how I'm seeing this, Danny Rick comes in.
Oh, wow. Fastest than FP1. Goodness me. Yuki Sanoda starts then thinking, I've got to really perform
here. But on a serious note, I think it will test Yuki's mental slightly, having a different test,
an experienced test in Daniel Ricardo, who is no slouch. Yes, he had a couple of years that were bad at
McLaren. Yes, he deserved the criticism then, but the rest of his career was very good,
if we're being honest here. I think Yuki might feel the pressure, and we know he is quite hot-headed.
We hear it on the team radio a lot. So I wonder if it doesn't go his way this weekend. That's
where we'll maybe see him push a bit harder. And also, let's not forget, he had one of the worst
races we've ever seen in Hungary. I was about to say, was it last year or the year before?
just two laps down, which is impressive.
But yes, so I can see it happening.
Interesting.
I nearly went for Yuki Snodra's my biggest good surprise.
But when I saw it was raining and qualifying, he's not...
Potentially, rain.
He's not confirmed, not confirmed.
But yeah.
I've had a lot of wet weather quality is this year, haven't we?
It seems to be like all of them now.
It just seems to rain on Saturdays.
But I'm not saying Yuki's a bad driver.
I just don't know how good he is.
He's not one of those people you immediately think of.
But Alfa Tauri should.
They were good in Monaco.
Uki was quite good in Monaco.
So we'll see.
Those breaks went.
There's breaks went.
Yeah, exactly.
So interesting.
So biggest flop I have gone for Lando Norris.
And that is, sorry McLaren fans,
but I don't think this is going to be a good race for them.
Okay.
Hold on.
Pause.
Go on.
What does a flop entail?
here because he's off the back of a P2.
If he finishes 6th, you're absolutely not getting a flop.
No, no, no.
He'd be low end of the points, maybe even no points.
Wow, that's where you envisage.
Yeah, yeah.
I don't think, I think the McLaren hype is such a different circuit.
I can see him being good at Spa next week.
But this circuit is very, very different.
And, you know, maybe they're behind maybe even Alpine,
who could suit the circuit better.
Who knows about Aston Martin?
Aston Martin's so difficult because I was preying.
Fernando was hyping here though in the Aston?
I know, but that was before, like,
it's so weird because he's still doing really well in the title.
But the last couple of races,
the Aston Martin hype has really died down, isn't it?
God, he's only got had like six podium or something.
God, it's what a shocking, washed season, eh?
Yeah, that's the thing.
Where has he finished the last two races?
is about sixth and fifth or something, which is a bad, it kind of almost feels bad.
But no, just don't see McLaren being all that around here, but could be wrong.
I'd recommend your barricade your doors, Tommy, because McLaren fans have been so thirsty for a result,
got one in Silverstone, and you're going to tell them that it's a one-hit wonder,
and they're going to be off the pace in Hungary.
Well, we will have to wait and see.
I hope not.
I really hope someone can take it to Red Bull.
hopefully it's McLaren or maybe even Ferrari, probably not.
We now go to pole position.
I have gone for Max Verstappen.
Boo, how dare you? So boring.
Yeah, yeah.
You want the points now.
I need the points now, Tommy,
because someone has cashed in on however many Max Verstappen predictions
over the last few weeks.
And I'm hoping maybe this, you know,
I don't mind taking zero points.
here. I will gladly for the universe
not take a point
to help everything unfold
beautifully for this race weekend. But
there's rumours that Red Bull are bringing
upgrades that are going to give them extra couple of
tents a lap and they're going to look slightly more
revolutionary in terms of how their car
looks. Can we just talk about that?
Imagine if they come up
out with no side pods.
Can you imagine
the banter if that? I want a camera
on Toto Wolf. Fully zoomed
on Toto Wolf to see what he
does. I mean, to be fair, I hope they come out with no side pods. And then I hope they're then
slow. And they're like, oh God, Mercedes were right. Well, they were wrong, but they were right
to change it. So wrong. But yes, Max Verstapp and Poll Position. Thanks for coming. Take care.
Interesting. So, surprise, a surprising thing for everyone. I've gone for poll position.
Lewis Hamilton. I have actually mixed it up for a change.
This was me. This was all me. Subliminal messaging. I'd,
were not really subliminal.
It was me just tweeting,
replying to our crazy prediction thing
on P1 with Matt and Tommy,
Twitter,
saying that my crazy prediction
was that you're not going to put Max for Stappen
as poll and win.
And here we are.
Lewis Hamilton.
Yeah, I just,
Max can't be on poll every race.
But it must,
it must end at some point.
And I don't think it's going to be Perez.
And if it's a bit of rain in the air,
let maybe I am foolish for not going for Max,
because you wouldn't bet against him.
But I am mixing it up.
And if I think anyone's going to do it,
I could see Hamilton doing it because I just,
the Hungaro ring,
I think he's one of it loads.
And I do always kind of think it is one of his best circuits.
He's been really good around here.
So yeah, I'm mixing it up for the content.
Hashtag content.
No, don't say for the content.
No, no, you believe it.
I can see in your eyes.
I've got to believe.
Come on.
Absolutely.
Someone different for Paul.
It's like that.
And away we go for Lewis Hamilton only.
I saw that clip.
Take us back to 2021.
What a season.
So much crazy stuff.
We need some crazy, we need something crazy this race, don't we?
We need literally anything other than of a stop and win.
That's all we need to something to happen that will feel slightly different.
We now go to our top three.
In third place, I've gone for Fernando Alonzo.
You don't ignore a man saying, wait for these tracks.
He said it for Monaco and nearly stuck it on pole.
Hungary is a Monaco without as many aggressive walls.
I feel like Aston Martin will be back.
Interesting. I hope you're right.
P3, I have gone for Sergio Perez.
I know exactly how this is going.
I can see it's my mile off.
Yeah, fair enough.
Okay, Sergio Perez.
so what, he's going to get out qualified by Hamilton, lose out to him.
Yeah, and then I don't think he's going to have his usual nightmare,
but I just, yeah, it's going to be a hard place to pass
if he does have a qualifying shocker, isn't it?
He's not going to be able to, I say go through the field.
He's not really gone through the field very easily,
even on the easy tracks.
So, yeah, he's going to have to have to qualify to.
I mean, the podium for Perez is basically a victory for him.
in this current state of form, isn't it?
Okay.
In P2,
I think it had changed it on the fly.
Lewis Hamilton.
One second, let me just move that.
There we go.
Yeah, Lewis Hamilton will get P2
because if he gets pole position,
then he's going to finish second.
Yeah.
Are you on this height?
I mean, the thing is, right?
Yeah, no, because I've bought into what you've said
slightly.
And also, let's not forget George
Russell had pole position around here.
He did.
And I've gone and absolutely disregarded him.
Why can't there be more than three positions in the top three?
That's what I need right now for the amount of drivers that I think could finish the top.
Maybe we should start doing five just say there's not.
Yeah.
No, it'll get confusing.
But yeah, okay, Lewis Hamilton, P2.
Interesting.
Well, spoiler alert, you've kind of alluded to it.
I've also gone for Lewis Hamilton P2.
Nice.
I think he's going to have a good performance in Hungary.
suits him well.
He's very good around here.
It was very good last year.
I think probably his best performance of the year,
the way he came through the field after one might argue
might have even got Paul himself if he didn't have that problem.
And, yeah, kind of managed to get all the way through the field
and pass his teammate.
Still couldn't be Verstappen, though.
But yeah, I've got for P2.
Okay.
And first position.
Max for Stappel.
You can't win every race.
Look, I think if I, if I predict him poll and win,
and you've predicted someone else to get pole,
but doesn't look like you're going to go for anyone else for the victory,
I don't know what that's going to do to the universe.
We're trying every jinx and formula.
Yeah, this is the thing.
Biggest stop doesn't work.
Let's back Vastappen to the hilt and see what happens.
We've none of us have done biggest good surprise yet for Vastappen,
which you can't really.
Just one surprise.
Yeah.
He finishes P0.
He lapsed.
F1?
Yeah.
So yeah.
No surprise.
Logan Sergeant P1.
No.
Lewis Hamilton.
No, not Louis Hamilton.
What we're going about?
Lewis Houlton will finish first and second.
I did a filter the other day of like trying to make a really bad F1 team.
And it put them and it does like this filter where it goes through and it gives you their result.
And it came that my.
two drivers finished P20 and DNF and everyone with the comments was like how is that possible?
Love it. But yeah, most of just happen, P1. He's on this amazing run. I feel like only a
engine failure can stop him now. But look, he can't win every race. He can't surely win every
single Grand Prix. He hasn't won every single Grand Prix. But since you've been saying he can't
win every race, he's won every race. So maybe we should stop saying it. I don't know. I don't know what to do
anymore, Tommy. He's too powerful. He is too powerful. Let's go to our one crazy prediction then,
shall we? And funny, you mentioned Logan Sargent, because I have put down that he out-qualifies
Alex Albon. Oh, Logie. Logie, on a massive high from P-11 last week, last week, last race,
big celebrations for those no points, but the confidence is growing. And I think Logie Bear, you know,
gets his potter jam out or whatever, you know, has a, is it?
That well-known American pot of jam or a crumpet.
I don't know.
I don't know what bear, like, what does Yogi bear eat?
Yogi bear.
I don't know.
Winnie the poo has honey.
It's Winnie the poo has honey.
Yeah, I don't know why I thought of jam.
Yeah, he has, honey.
Okay, honey.
Something sweet.
I'm sure bears like jam as well.
So Logie bear will out qualify.
I have on.
Amazing.
My crazy prediction is Perez makes Q3.
Loophole McGee.
You can absolutely jog the S on.
It's not happened in, when was the last time he made Q3?
Miami, that was months ago.
You are sick.
It was not Miami the last time he made Q3.
Yeah, it must have been.
Oh yeah, it's five and a rat?
Yeah, yeah.
How did I not see this?
I'm the king of loopholes.
I know.
I thought, I was like, how is Matt not gone for this yet?
I was like, I'm absolutely going for it.
Although it's going to be absolutely hilarious
and you will laugh your head off when we're on the watch along
and I don't get this point when he flies into the gravel.
I'm hoping minus five points come your way because of going for this loophole.
It's disgusting.
It's underhand tactics.
But fair play to you.
You've got to respect it at the same time.
That's interesting.
No, we're going to start making predictions.
predictions too complicated if we're like, you get a minus point if you go for the step and he doesn't
do it or something like that. Yeah, we get confusing for everybody, especially audio listeners.
We're actually now adding to this segment by getting three crazy predictions from you
wonderful lot that listen and watch our podcast. So this comes in, the first one, by the way,
probably should mention, we put out a graphic, reply to it on Twitter or Instagram,
and then we will select from there.
So, first one comes in from Willow Dazzino.
Oscar Piastri gets a podium.
That doesn't match my theory.
That doesn't sync up with what you've said
that McLaren are going to be washed.
And I don't back that either,
just purely because of the characteristics of the track,
it just feels very different to what Silverstone was.
Hungary is not a power track by any stretch of the imagination.
So, yeah, I'm more on your side, Tommy,
but then again, I longingly want McLaren to do well
because I feel like us McLaren and Ferrari fans
need to stick together in this period of turmoil.
I would like to see an Oscar Piastri podium.
I don't think it's going to come here,
but I'm here for it because I think, yeah,
I think he's definitely, I think it will happen
because he's driving really well at the moment,
bit underrated maybe even
from when we went back and actually spoke about
how close he was to Lando.
you kind of gone a bit under the radar of how well he's actually done
just because McLaren was so terrible at the start.
No, I completely and utterly go against that.
I have backed him every time.
I've said Piastri is a beast.
I predicted it at the start of the year.
I will be cashing that in at the end of the year.
We've been saying Piaastri's got that potential.
It's just not come good for him.
And as soon as the car was good,
he has performed brilliantly in Silverstone.
So let's see how McLaren do in Hungary
because the expectations are through the ceiling.
and I really hope they stay there
when we get to qualifying in the race.
Next one comes in from X Mega Matt X.
Danny Rick out qualifies Checo.
That, I mean, look, I joked about it on Twitter.
The scenes, if that actually happened,
I think Tommy, we spoke about the terms and conditions
of if you don't make Q3 a certain amount of times
in a red ball, you lose your seat.
If Daniel Ricardo out qualifies you in a literal tractor,
you have to vacate your seat immediately.
just to Daniel Riccardo
doesn't matter about Yuki doing it
like the last five races or whatever it was
true yes
this is the agenda Tommy
okay we're trying to get Daniel Rick back in the Red Bull
or do we want Daniel Rick in the Red Bull?
I don't know anymore
but it's good as back in F1
it is
it is actually going to be really fascinating
to see how he does
it is you know a joke to the start
that it's amazing what it does
just having a new driver
in the worst car on the grid
but it is a bit of new
intrigue that we've kind of been missing.
Now,
this is not going to go to the YouTube
because it's the weirdest thing I've ever seen, right?
This guy just text me
saying if I want to play tennis later, right?
Right.
And I have absolutely no idea
why he's then sent this next message, right?
So he's gone, hi Matt.
I have caught five for eight to or nine 30
would you like to play?
That's one message.
Yeah.
The next message, jam.
We're talking about jam
That's weird
That's why I literally
Have you
Messaging me on a different phone
Because it just says jam
Logan
Is that you?
Oh, that's so weird
That is weird
Are you playing tennis
At Logan Sargent later
And not invited me
Why is it
Because of the jam
Yeah
Bring the jam honey
I meant honey
I meant honey is in like babe
But I mean for God's sake
My brain is
frazzled.
But yeah, just sort of wanted to share that
because that is so weird.
That is very weird.
Why did, why have they sent jam as a separate message?
Are they at?
Hello?
Dogen?
No.
No.
Logi Bear, come in.
Anyway, the final crazy prediction from you comes in 467-8-8-7-O-A.
Actual fight for the lead.
I love how an actual fight,
not a pretend one or a virtual one,
but an actual fight for the lead.
Yeah, what's the devil?
definition of that.
I think wheel to wheel.
There has to be at least one wheel to wheel past lap one for the lead.
That's an actual fight for the lead.
Okay.
Nice.
So when Max gets DRS on Hamilton on lap three,
that's an actual fight for the lead.
So we'll count it.
Yeah.
Cool.
Okay.
I'll take it.
Lovely stuff.
You'll take it.
What, are you four, six, seven eight seven, A?
Is it a better account?
I just want to see, just want to see some good racing action.
You really are channeling this Hamilton
and masterclass this weekend,
aren't you? It's amazing.
Right, that is it.
Thank you so much for watching.
Our predictions for the 2023
Hungarian Grand Prix.
It was a bit off the rails, this one.
Have to have to be said.
Tommy, what are your final thoughts, sir?
My final thoughts are jam.
That's it.
But what if that doesn't make the edit?
Then that makes no sense for anyone.
It will for podcasts people.
To be fair, it will also,
I think I said Logie Bear almost immediately
after my prediction.
So it probably will make it.
Anyway, my final thought is more rain.
More chaos, even though we don't really get chaos
when we have rain these days.
It's just rain.
When getting on poll by a second.
But hey, you never know.
I'll take a max poll by a second this week
because I'll get some points.
So let's go.
Come on, Max.
Let's see how my jinx potentially works this weekend.
Thank you everybody, as always, for the love and support.
We'll see you very soon for a whole week of beautiful content
from the P1 fan, i.e., myself and Tommy.
So look forward to all of that very soon.
Bye.
Bye.
Shout out to the penguins in Antarctica.
And the polar bears and the seals.
Seals.
Yuki Snowda.
Snowda.
