Hello everybody and welcome back to the P-1 podcast with Matt and Tommy.
We are still stuck in Amsterdam, but we have to get this predictions podcast done.
So here we are because it is race week.
We are back once again.
It's Monza.
It is the home of Ferrari.
And I cannot wait to see what's in store this week.
Indeed, they've got some snazzy new overalls as well, which some people think they look like McDonald's.
You think of Landon-Norris himself?
I know.
Which, I mean, fair.
Yeah.
It does look a little bit like Donald's outfits.
But it's fine.
It's Ferrari.
They get away with it.
Let's get into our predictions then.
And starting with biggest good surprise.
Hear me out.
I've gone for Chowler.
Of course you have.
Biggest good surprise, Chaulecler.
Because he's off the back of a DNF.
Okay.
And any points means prizes at this stage.
I just feel as though I don't have any powers anymore for jinxing.
So they just go for it.
And I feel good vibes.
I feel like the Tofosi will carry Charlecler in particular back to some form,
and it's going to be glorious to watch.
Nice.
I have gone for Carlos Sites as my biggest good surprise.
Off the back of a 10 out of 10.
How does that work?
Well, he's not going to.
got a podium this year. Maybe it gets a little cheeky podium. But yeah, I also think that Ferrari
will be lifted by the crowd. I think the Ferrari will hopefully be good around a track like Monza.
And yeah, Carlos is driving very well at the moment, looking quick, but I feel like he needs to
it's a bag of podium, which would be quite something.
So, yeah, I've gone for Carlos off the back of, yeah, a very good race last time out.
But I think you'll do well.
OK-dokey. We now go to Biggest flop.
I've gone for Alexander Albon because the hype is far too much for this Williams going round Monza.
you know, he didn't actually manage to race here last year.
Nick DeVries did and got some points, which was obviously amazing.
But I feel as though Alex, we're just expecting too much, I think.
And something, I'm not saying that Williams won't be good because I think they will.
I just, you know, biggest flop is always about vibes.
And sometimes my, well, a lot of the time my vibes for biggest flop come in.
And I just feel like Alex won't actually score any points this weekend.
So a little disclaimer before I say mine.
is I'm so sorry to everyone that loves our disagreement.
But we have the same brain because I have gone for Alex Albin
for exactly the same reason that there's going to be so much hype on like Williams.
Oh, is Monza? Williams, definitely.
And actually, I think, I don't think they're going to be as good at Monza as we maybe think.
back in, you know, days gone by, it was the only track they could do anything at because they were just an absolute rocket ship.
The Williams is actually good now. Like they've got downforce, Alex Harbin qualified fourth at Zandvort.
You know, there is a much better car than it used to be. And I think, yeah, we're still in that mindset of like, Monza, that's a Williams track.
But yeah, my thinking now is that maybe isn't the case. So in a way,
in a weird way, it's not even just biggest flop.
It's almost like biggest bad, not a surprise kind of thing,
that there'll be so much hype of like,
this is Williams's track.
And then Albin will qualify like 12th or something.
And it's just kind of fairly normal.
So that's my logic.
And yeah, sorry to everyone that loves our disagreements,
but I was thinking along exactly the same thing.
But this is interesting now,
because the two powers are colliding.
You flopped Gazley and he got a podium.
Every time you seem to flop someone, the opposite happens.
But when I flop someone, they flop, then they flop hard.
They do.
So this is going to be very interesting.
I think Alex Albaugh might win the race now because of this.
I just feel as though some sort of explosion is going to happen.
And Alex has the most unbelievable race of all time.
But let's see.
Whose power is stronger?
We will find out, come the end.
end of Sunday. We now go to poll position. Max Vastappen. Max Vestappen. That's my,
Max Vestappen in his name and Max Vastappen is the reason. It's that DRS, wow, unless they
ban the DRS in the next few days in qualifying, that DRS gone get him some serious poll position. That's
that's what I feel. Yeah, I have also gone for Maxisnerp and Paul position. And again,
a bit like the whole Williams thing, Red Bull used to be that, that team that were an absolute
joke around the corners. And... A joke being good, by the way, everyone.
Because you did kind of deliver that. You're a joke around corners. You're really good.
The Adrian Newey kind of unbelievable grip, you know, the Sebastian Vessel era, I feel like
when they were dominating the previous year,
kind of the V8 era,
they were so good in almost every race.
And then Monza was like the Bergey track
because they didn't have power.
It wasn't their kind of thing.
No engine.
Yeah, exactly.
And now they're actually amazing
in a straight line as well,
much to everyone's dismay because they have no weakness,
basically, because they're good everywhere.
but that red ball now is really good because they can run, you know,
skinny wing and still be amazing around the corners
and the DRS are so good and things like that.
So, yeah, I think I can't see past Stepan at this one,
which even though a unique circuit,
I think it will suit the red ball a lot.
A bit too much, maybe.
Maybe.
Okay, dokey.
It's now time for our top three.
let's start with third position.
Charlotte Claire.
On the podium,
the Tophosi will celebrate it like it was a win,
and I might just get a picture of Photoshop,
so it's just him on the podium,
just for my own sort of, you know,
to just look at in bed like the Wolverine meme.
That's what I want.
Yeah, nice.
I have gone four.
I'm doubling down.
Carlos Sites, P3,
first podium of the year, like I said earlier, like, you know, think that Ferrari,
hopefully be good around here. I hope they are good around here. You know, we, I joke,
joke about them. We all laugh at your pain, Matt, but Ferrari and Monza is, it's an incredible thing.
Like, it's a special place. And that, the Monza podium is the coolest podium in Formula
on by a country mile. And then, you know, it's even better when there's a Ferrari on the podium.
and yeah, I think Carlos is due on.
He's been driving well, but hasn't got his first podium yet.
So here's hoping.
What happens to Charles in your mind's eye?
Maybe fourth.
Okay.
So not a mare, but just...
A three, four.
Lovely.
Okay.
P2, I have gone for Lando Norris.
So I think, again, McLaren have proved that that car can deliver any characteristic of track.
And I feel as though they'll be good around Monza.
I don't see why not.
So, you look at Zandvo, you look at the result.
If it had been just a bone-dry race, Landau Norris,
I think we both believed, was just set on for a P-2.
And that would have been it.
So, yeah, I think Lando will have another decent qualifying,
and he will secure that P-2 spot.
So for P-2, I have gone for Sergio Perez.
I love how this is a shock.
I know.
I have to say second-place Sergio Perez.
Which is wild, the guy in the best car leading the championship and the constructors title.
And yeah, it is almost a surprise now, but I feel like this will be a race where, you know,
that Red Bull is going to be mighty around Monza. You'll never guess who my P1 is.
But yeah, Sergio Perez, I've gone for P2.
And first position
Max Verstappen takes the 10
The big old fat 1-0
The Red Bull T-shirts will have been made
With 10 in a row
I know there'll be some special design
That they'll whip out the end of the Sunday
I'll have pictures with it
They'll probably break the trophy
It'll be Max for Staff 10
Some really cringy hashtag
I reckon that might be it you know
Sorry to Red Bull if that's in the fly
That's incredible from you
That's amazing. Okay. Yeah, so I think Max Fusappen, 10 in a row, congratulations, takes the record.
And then we are very much on our way to Red Bull locking out the entire year.
P1, I have gone for Max has to happen.
What?
No, he's, yeah, this track is incredibly well-suited. I think you'd have to take a DNF for him not to win,
although there is this whole Monza curse that if you win Monza the year after, you retire,
which has happened for the last few times, obviously, Charlerclair won, and then had the problem.
Then it was Daniel Ricardo.
No, sorry, yeah, so Gazzley before that, actually.
So yeah, it was sorry, Charle-Claire, Gasly, Ricardo, and then the year after they've always DNFed.
So there's talk of like, oh, we'll Gestap and get hit by that curse?
No.
There's been a lot of curses throwing around this year
and Max Verstappen just goes,
no, you're all right.
Every curse, every, oh, the stars are aligning
for a long as those 30 third win.
No, Max Rastappen's like,
I also had the number 33.
Thank you very much.
Yeah.
So, yeah, I wouldn't put past Max getting
the max for stat 10 or whatever I said earlier.
There we go.
My one crazy prediction is
there will be a crash between two drivers and there will be an altercation.
So that doesn't need to be fisticuffs.
But, you know, like in the interview, yeah, that's the...
A bit of slander.
Yeah, a bit of slander.
That's what I feel like.
Monza, there's term one.
There can be all kinds of, you know, it's very tight into there.
I feel like there might be a bit of one of those.
So not like an amicable thing.
A bit like...
Not like an old racing incident.
Like Lando and George after Zab.
We're both like, oh, well, especially George,
like, it was just a racing incident, you know, it's fine, whatever.
This will be a case of, nah.
But at Gassley and, I want to say,
Gassley and Sites in one of the races,
and then Gadsley came in the media pen and was like,
Carlos, what are you doing?
That kind of thing.
Yeah, that kind of stuff.
Nice.
So my one crazy prediction is that an alpha tauri gets a point,
which is very rare these days.
I've not had many.
Yeah, exactly.
I've kind of
a little loophole
although I guess the same with you
you've not chosen your drivers
That would be
I'd be put your bets on if I thought that was going to happen
But no I think
It's one of those tracks
Isn't it that is a bit different
And
A Alpha Tauri has not been
particularly great this year
but maybe on a track like Monza
it could deliver
and I'm not
I'm not kind of betting on which
person that was going to be.
Just to double my chances.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I like the way you've learned from your mistakes in the past.
Yeah, exactly.
You know, your alpha-oes rather than your one singular driver.
And so on and so forth.
Okay, and now we go into three crazy predictions from You Wonderful Lot.
We're doing this every race now.
So be sure to reply to the graphic we put out, which is either on X, Twitter,
or Instagram, Matt P1, Tommy, if you don't follow us already.
The first one is at Phi Ziccar.
1-23 BS.
Alex Albon gets a podium.
I feel like the username at the end of that.
The BS part maybe links in with that particular prediction.
That's the...
That's against our theory.
It is against our theory.
There's too much hype.
That's a lot of hype.
That's a huge amount of hype.
I know we got P4 at Zambfort,
which was...
We didn't suspect that.
We don't suspect this happening either.
It's a lot when you feel like Red Bull are going to be mighty.
so you're only really expecting one
if it's a normal race one step on the podium.
New thought Red Bull.
Yeah, true.
Yeah, yeah.
So, oh, it's a tough call.
We'd, of course, all love to see it.
We want some new podium setters and stuff.
I mean, if William's got a podium,
it'd be absolutely incredible.
What scenes that would be?
What scenes?
The next one is from VATBloak 83.
At least five cars will DNF for any reason.
And then yours comes in
and all five drivers have a massive brawl
and then your...
Just a royal rumble in the middle of the gravel trap.
I mean, to be fair, yeah,
it's happened at another Italian race,
isn't it, with Bottas and Russell?
Yeah, I mean, that's...
I guess you kind of see that,
and you go, is that crazy?
But also, it is in this modern age of Formula One
having five cars DNFing.
That's a hefty amount.
It sure is.
I'm actually just...
You've put me on the spot here,
but I'm going to look how many...
How many retirements.
where they're in the Dutch Grand Prix that's just happened.
Three, in a race where there was...
They were on the wrong tyre for most of the race.
Exactly.
So you've got three retirements, which isn't many,
in a race that's absolute carnage,
and we're like, that is the most crazy carnage race ever,
and you've got unbelievable rainstorms
that have hit the track twice,
and there's still only three non-finishes.
So I think, yeah, that is a crazy prediction these days.
Yeah, and I saw a little whiff.
as well on the weather forecast of potential rain again for Sunday, which...
We just stand those days.
Yeah, it's not locked in because there are some weather forecasts that say no,
but there are some weather forecasts that say yes,
and of course it can change.
We're recording this on what Tuesday.
So fingers crossed, I don't know.
I don't know if I wanted to dry race or not.
Do we just want a simple one that's easy to understand and quite good,
or do we want chaos?
But then it doesn't always cement a banging race.
Sandvoort was great.
Yeah.
Would Monza, a wet Monza be good for you?
Yeah, because it's a weird one, because I go back to, like,
Sebastian Bettles win.
That's the last wet Monza I can remember?
That's the last wet monza in 2000.
That's the one that stands out.
I think we've had wet qualifying sessions, and there's probably 2008.
I'm sure there probably people will be shouting in the comments or whatever,
or in the podcast that there has been a,
one, and I can't picture it, so maybe there is. But yeah, that race 2008, obviously, it was
incredible because you had such an unexpected winner, but then it was lights to flag.
You know, if that had been Max Osteppen this year or Lewis Hamilton in years gone by,
it's not the most interesting win in the world. The reason it was so interesting is because
it was such a unique winner. But, yeah, Rain at Monza, dare I say, actually, Rain at Monza,
could be horrendous with no DRS.
I don't know.
We'll find out, maybe.
Maybe.
Maybe we will.
So, yeah, that's true, actually.
But then no DRS means red ball won't be so good.
And the final crazy prediction is from Lobsey F1.
Monza Curse continues Oscar first win.
That's bold.
That's very bold.
So this person believes the Monza Curse is real.
So that's a max DNF and an Oscar win.
That's not just an Oscar win, which is bold enough as it is,
the Monza curse.
If Max D&S from this race, there's something going on.
Do you remember that?
What race was it where they had like electromagnetic?
It's Singapore, wasn't it?
They had things under the track that would like affect some cars.
Yeah, over the under.
Do you feel as they like Monza might have, you know,
similar thing for Ferrari's not winning,
which is most of the time these days,
that they would have installed something to help that maybe happen?
Yes.
Like a Ferrari flag gets waived and Max things.
it's a red flag and stops the car and actually it's just a Ferrari fan.
Let's just not get stuck in Amsterdam anymore.
Let's go straight to Monza and try that out.
How do you like those apples?
I'm not for you.
I don't think I'd be allowed back in the Netherlands as the Max supporter.
No.
No, I do forget you are, but that's because it's so easy.
It's so easy.
I'm not going to wear my bracelet this weekend because it didn't go well.
This one just gone by.
And that is pretty much it.
Thank you everybody for tuning in.
you for sending in your three crazy predictions,
Pfizer car, that bloke and Lobsey.
And thank you, Tom Bellingham,
for allowing me to sit in your hotel room and record.
Thank you to everybody for loving and listening Formula One.
Do you want to know what my final thoughts are?
No, yes.
Okay, go on.
My final thoughts are you have messages pop up on your phone
during this while we can see.
And I've seen that Ferrari have released a special livery.
so should we have a live reaction to it on the podcast?
A live reaction to the special Ferrari livery.
Here we go.
Oh, it's the same as last time.
Is that it?
Click it so it goes bigger.
That's not the same.
No, it's not the same.
It's actually better.
Yeah, it's very similar to the year before, but better, I think.
It's nice.
A little bit of yellow.
Tasty.
I like it.
Yeah, that's...
Yeah, I'm a fan of that.
That's...
Nice, just a little bit of an addition of the yellow.
Would have liked the yellow.
It's on the genuine flag.
Oh, it does actually.
Can't unsee that now.
Well done.
Yeah, would have liked the yellow Ferrari at the back
just as a little additional thing.
But I think it's very nice.
Well done Ferrari.
Well done Ferrari.
There you go.
Enjoyed that.
Thank you, everybody.
See you soon.
Bye.
Bye.
