Starting point is 00:00:05 Hello everybody and welcome back. Podcast for Madden Tommy. That was new. Very musical. I know, I don't know why. It's race week. So, of course, excitement is building Tom Bellingham. How are you?
Starting point is 00:00:25 I'm good. Looking forward to the triple header. It feels like forever like we mentioned in the last podcast that feels like such a long time when you have a week break now. And yeah, Cota I really like. I think it's a good track and good track. and good vibes as well. Without spoiling the predictions,
Starting point is 00:00:44 what level of cook are you out of 1 to 10? Is Chef Bellingham in the kitchen this week? I think Chef Bellingham has just turned the hob on, but not started cooking yet. Okay, Chef Gallagher's gone in and bought a lot of ingredients for today, so look forward to that one. Before we dive into it,
Starting point is 00:01:05 I want to shout out our wonderful Patriones, are patrons who, if you sign up today, you will support this P1 adventure and get bonus pods, add free pods, a classic F1 series, full driver interviews in video, private discord with our amazing community
Starting point is 00:01:24 and much more early access to live events. You name it, it's probably on there. So if you want to join our Patreon, please do. There'll be a link in the description and also in our link tree, I think, Tommy. That's probably the easiest way to find our Patreon. Come and join the Patreon family.
Starting point is 00:01:39 There's lots of content already to absorb our exclusive podcast series around classic races. It's continuously being loaded up, so you'll have lots to look forward to. Indeed. And this one is the controversial one that everyone I Discord wanted, which is the 2005 US Grand Prix in that farcical race. So it should be a good one. Definitely. Let's get into our predictions then and begin.
Starting point is 00:02:05 With biggest good surprise. I have gone for Lewis Hamilton. Yeah, off the back of obviously a DNF. It can only get better for Lewis Hamilton this weekend. Of course, hitting his own teammate as well, George Russell, in Qatar. And Mercedes looked very good in Qatar, and they didn't deliver to the level of which they maybe should have. And they were last year incredibly good as well.
Starting point is 00:02:37 And Lewis Hamilton actually took it. to Max Verstappen for some of that race. So I am backing LH for this weekend. I'm sorry Team LH, because I've also gone for Lewis Hamilton. I knew it. Hamilton and Cota just seems right, doesn't it? He loves the place.
Starting point is 00:03:00 He's really good around. It's a very Lewis Hamilton track, I feel, like you say. I wasn't actually thinking about last year, but yeah, he became very close to winning, if not for a few more laps of Max catching him and passing him when that Mercedes wasn't all that. Mercedes have looked better, obviously had the mayor last time through,
Starting point is 00:03:22 but yeah, Cota has been this track for Hamilton where he does tend to deliver a sort of clip today kind of throwing back to 2012 when Hamilton beat Vettel in that dominant. Red Bull, so maybe, just maybe Hamilton might beat match this happening in a dominant Red Bull as well. We'll wait to see. We absolutely will. I don't think we usually pick the same drivers.
Starting point is 00:03:49 I don't think we ever have, despite us agreeing with a lot of things. I think this first time I've ever picked the same driver. So I say watching have a terrible race, but it can't go worse than last time. This is good, actually. If I continuously pick the same thing as you, I can consolidate my lead. I think I've got a lead now. So hopefully I've picked everything the same between now. Oh, and the end of the season, fingers crossed.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Biggest flop now. I have locked in, and I apologize in advance because biggest flop, it be flopping. Oscar Piastri, I think the McLaren is not going to be as good as, well, especially as Katar. Qatar was literally built for that McLaren. I don't think they're going to be as quick this weekend. There are, of course, some medium to high speed corners, but there's also some sort of slower corners as well around Austin. And I just, yeah, I don't know, the Oscar Piastri hype train,
Starting point is 00:04:42 I want him to literally do well for the rest of time. But unfortunately, there's something within my soul that says that Oscar might not have a very good weekend, and I apologize in advance. There is a big Choo Choo Choo Hype Train, isn't there for Oscar Piastri at the moment? I've seen that stat going around that he's obviously can beat Hamilton's point tally and become the most successful rookie ever, which is the most bizarre stat of all time.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Anyone that shares that stat, are you well? Like, honestly. It's literally like being like, Roman Gron has scored more points than one man well fanjo. It's like, yes, because the point system is completely different. Yeah, exactly. Less races. The points for the win was 10 rather than 25,
Starting point is 00:05:26 and now the fastest lap point. It's just crazy. Yeah, it is silly. My biggest flop, and it's another sorry in advance, another sorry in advance to Australians. I've gone for Daniel Riccardo. And I hope I'm wrong, but the reason for this is there's part of me that maybe worries that he's so desperate to drive in Austin that he's, yeah,
Starting point is 00:05:54 rushed his self back to drive in Austin because he loves it so much. And it's also a sprint weekend, so he's not going to have those practice sessions to to dial in he's got to come back and get straight in and deliver. But I hope I'm wrong. And we'll see. I'm sure Sergio Perez will hope I'm right and he is biggest flop. I mean, your logic makes a lot of sense, Tommy. There is logic in there.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Yeah. Yeah, Sprint's not going to work in his favour. I hope he hasn't rushed his comeback. Obviously, Lance Stroll definitely did because we saw how much pain he was in in that first. race in Bahrain, but yeah, it's going to be fascinating to see exactly how Daniel Ricardo does. So anything other than Plum Last means you don't get a point because Liam Lawson finished plum last on the road in Qatar, therefore anything above 20th or the last finisher is surprising in a good
Starting point is 00:06:51 way. You're disgusting. He is in an Alphotari, mate. You know what I mean? That car ain't any good. No. It's funny you mentioned Lance Stroll. I mean, Lance Stroll's best driving this year was when he had an injured hand.
Starting point is 00:07:04 so maybe that's the secret. Maybe. The secret formula is having something wrong with your hand. Anyway, sprint shootout. My sprint shootout winner, is it? Or is it a fastest person? Yeah, no, but do you win the sprint shootout? It feels like you should win a sprint shootout.
Starting point is 00:07:24 You don't get poll. You just exist. You just do fast things. Lewis Hamilton is going to be on pole position. for the sprint. There you go. I've gone for Max Verstappen.
Starting point is 00:07:43 You can't do this when I went for McLaren last time and picked the damn wrong McLaren driver, didn't I? Yeah, it is funny, sprint shootout. Still confuses me every time I look at it. I go, which one's that again? And it, yeah, is the one that you can't win
Starting point is 00:08:01 because it's not a win. You can't get pole because it doesn't count as a pole position. You just get a lovely Formula One graphic that awkwardly says, fastest on, because they don't know how to word it. Exactly. So it's not poll, it's just the sprint fast person.
Starting point is 00:08:16 So well done. Okay, cool, Lewis and Max. What about the sprint winner then? I'm going for Max for Stappen. I am spreading my eggs. I'm not putting them all in one basket. So hopefully at least one of those points will come in. I feel like the sprint winner might come in
Starting point is 00:08:32 more than the sprint shooter. out, but we move. I've also gone for Maxa Stappen for sprint winner. Yes, I think he's going to be rapid around there and won't have the same problems that he did in Qatar where he got beaten in a sprint, which is a rare thing these days. Yeah, you really did leave you your utensils and ingredients at home, didn't you, Chef Bellingham?
Starting point is 00:09:00 You're really trying to just, you're hoping that I just start chefing. and then you can catch up. And I did a little bit because, you know, I just got on the Hamilton hype train. Pole position! Max Verstappen. Mate, I've cooked a little bit. I'm now just, you know, locking that pole position in,
Starting point is 00:09:26 Max Verstappen. He just has a little bad sprint shootout, but for the main pole thing that actually counts as a poll, he'll be there for pole. Right, I've put the pan on the hob now because pole position. I have gone for
Starting point is 00:09:40 no, I've gone for Lewis Hamilton. Have you? I sure have. Yep, can see Liz getting a cheeky pole position in the main race on the Friday. Straight out the blocks pretty much. One practice session, nose code to really well. And would be his second poll?
Starting point is 00:10:06 Yes, because he got one in Hungary. agree, didn't he? So yeah, going for Lewis Hamilton. We're sleeping on George Russell, that's for sure, after he had a very good race in Qatar. Very good, yeah. Let's see if he makes it into our top three. In third place, I have gone for George Russell. Go on the George. He has been driving well of the last race, and therefore, recently he bias is kicking in,
Starting point is 00:10:34 and George is doing very well. So I think he's going to get a podium. Nice. I have gone third place. Lando Norris. Obviously, you mentioned about not thinking McLaren are going to be as good. I agree that I don't think there will be the outright second best car. But then, you know, we have seen them go to different tracks this year. And Lando is so good in the races, I think, with the Oscar Piastri. deserved hype at the moment.
Starting point is 00:11:09 I think people have like slept on Norris a bit at the moment and how, you know, good he's been in the last few races still. And his race pace is phenomenal. So I'm still going for a podium for Lando. Wow. How many would that be now for Lando? That would be quite a few, wouldn't it? It would be a lot.
Starting point is 00:11:30 Yeah, it would be, oh, I feel like he's been on the podium. It almost feels like he's been on the podium, like every race in Silverstone, which I know it isn't the case. I think he's on a three podium street. You can check that stat as I... Well, he got two twos in a row and then two three, so maybe it'd be his fourth in a row. I want to say.
Starting point is 00:11:48 Interesting. In second place, I have gone for... Drum roll, please. For audio listeners, you probably don't have a drum roll. Max Verstappen! Ooh. And shev gilligur. is in the kitchen.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Yeah, Max Verstappen's finishing P2. I feel something in my bones. Should probably get it checked out for the fact that I don't think Max Verstappen is going to win. It's just, it's happening. We're going to get another one. I feel like I said a while ago that there will be at least three occasions
Starting point is 00:12:27 that someone other than Max Verstappen or Red Bull win. And I feel like Mercedes, they're going to turn up, watch them be slowest in free practice, and then really slow. Is there one, If there's one more winner, are you going to claim that Piestri's win counts as well?
Starting point is 00:12:45 And you're going to, as a third win. Oh, the sprint, absolutely. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You didn't read the T's and Cs when I made this claim. It could just be three sprints. Sprints does ruin everything, doesn't it? Because you have to, like, word everything so correctly,
Starting point is 00:12:59 and then there's loopholes and things. And I have gone, P2, Lewis Hamilton. so not a good one but not quite the the dub there we go you stop that sentence so quickly not quite the dub there you go we are recording this at half past eight in the evening and tommy should definitely be in bed by now so okay in first place the dub is good Going to Lewis Hamilton. Team LH are going to be elated this weekend when Lewis Hamilton inevitably DNFs
Starting point is 00:13:47 due to my prediction of him winning the American Grand Prix. So yeah, there you go. LHP1. Wow. It's mad to think that he's still not won since Saudi 2021, isn't it? That just doesn't seem real. I saw a bait graphic that awoke all of Team LH that Max Verstappen has won three World Championships
Starting point is 00:14:14 since Lewis Hounson last won a race. I saw that and my God, did Team LH bite to that one? Yeah, that's a damning stat. I mean, it's literally factual, but it's, yeah, it's one that you knew would have to rile up a fan base in one comment, really. P1 I have gone for Max Vastappen Mainly because I'm three or four points behind now
Starting point is 00:14:42 And I need to bag some points So I've not been cooking too much It's a tough one because Max is also really good Really good here I mean I'd happily be wrong If we get a tasty fight between Hamilton and Vestappen That's what we need this year, isn't it? For the win, yes please sign me out.
Starting point is 00:15:01 Yeah, we need something at the end of this season to just be like, don't worry, Formula One's not completely finished. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. That would be nice. We have had a few good races, but let's finish off this season with a bang. Now that everything's wrapped up, it doesn't, well, apart from obviously Mercedes and Ferrari and for P2, but I think that we deserve some serious thrillers between now and the end of the season. Finally, our one crazy prediction. I think I might have taken a leaf out of your book here, Tommy. Sergio Perez makes Q3
Starting point is 00:15:36 Nice Because he's missed about half of them I think this year So maybe just under So there you go He's going to make Q3 Come on Perez Let's crawl through in 10th
Starting point is 00:15:49 If I tell you that I've gone for something similar Do you want to guess what it is Sergio Perez doesn't make Q3 No Similar similar form for a certain driver. I have gone for... Sir Trey Perel finishes in the top ten?
Starting point is 00:16:06 No, I've gone for Lance Stroll makes it into Q2. Q2. Wow. Because he hasn't for the... Since the summer break, yes, since we got back
Starting point is 00:16:20 from the summer break, Lance Stroll has not made Q2 and not scored a single point. Meanwhile, that's... Chef Alonzo is, yeah. It's made you three every single. single time this year.
Starting point is 00:16:33 I can't believe I've not exploited that loophole and looking forward to being wrong. I'm starting to qualify as 18th. Oh no, yeah, true. Yeah, you need him to get out in Q1. Right, cool, there we go. Our three crazy predictions from you guys now and we're doing this every day, every race.
Starting point is 00:16:52 So if you want to reply to our Twitter or Instagram post when we ask for it, then you may well feature in this podcast, Matt P1, Tommy, if you don't follow us already. The first one comes in from MJ95. Danny Rick comeback points. Well, that is definitely not your burner account, Tommy, because you think the exact opposite is going to happen, and I don't think this is going to happen either.
Starting point is 00:17:12 Passi Ruti, Alfa... Is that their new team name? I had a big pizza before I start recording this, and it nearly came back up. Alfredo gets more points. That is bold. That is very bold, considering they haven't had many occasions where that's happened this year.
Starting point is 00:17:30 And finally, FFP to MF, three different teams on the podium, which is what you've predicted. It is actually, no, yeah. Now I think about it, that is true, so we'll find out. You probably wouldn't have chosen this as a fan's crazy prediction as you realized that your top three were, was the same thing. I just, yeah, saw that one, and was like, oh, that's an interesting one. You're like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:51 I agree. I agree. I wonder why. And there we go. Thank you everybody for watching and listening to this predictions podcast. what are your final thoughts? My final thoughts are it is 20 to 9 and I don't think that even FP1
Starting point is 00:18:12 will have started this time on Friday so I'm going to be half asleep so please be a banger so I'm awake. Yeah, you're going to enjoy the Twitch watchalongs this weekend because Tommy's just going to be like a lazy, just sluggish human whereas I'm just going to be bouncing around trying to wake Tommy up basically.
Starting point is 00:18:33 So that'll be good fun. Come and watch us on our watch longs, Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend. And we will see you very soon for another piece of content. Bye. P1 is a Stack production and part of the Acast's creator network.
