Starting point is 00:00:05 Hello everybody and welcome back to the P1 podcast with Matt and Tommy. It's race week. It's Amili Ramania Grand Prix week. It's Imola Week. It's plenty of happiness because Formula One has returned to our screens. Well, we'll be returning. And we are going to give our saucy predictions. Tommy, you're actually going on a holiday.
Starting point is 00:00:28 So we are locking and loading this one before you go on your adventures. Alex Jakes will be taking your place for. the majority of the podcasts. How do you feel about that, Tommy? Are you feeling okay? Well, normally when we pre-record these things, probably every driver I pick is going to have some kind of like cold or something
Starting point is 00:00:48 and end up missing the race. And then it's all irrelevant, but hopefully not. Better not have put Biggest Good Surprise, Charlotte Clever. We'll see. Let's get into our predictions then and start with Biggest Good Surprise. I am going to lock in Pierre Gazley
Starting point is 00:01:05 Yes I believe he will have seen Esteban Okon get that point last time out And it made him physically unwell I cannot confirm or deny this But I know for a fact that it would have hurt him to his core So what Pierre Gassley is going to do Off the back of let's not forget An incredible Alfa Tauri performance in Imala
Starting point is 00:01:25 And then he decided to choose the wrong tyres At the start of the race but we won't talk about that But I think he's got a good performance in him Alpine have managed to somehow get to the right weight for the car, which is helping their pace and performance. I think there might be a point for Pierre this weekend. Oh, lovely stuff. As I'm going away, I don't need to get,
Starting point is 00:01:49 I can basically avoid any kind of race. So I'll go a bit rogue. And biggest good surprise I've gone for Kevin Magnerson. And I'm not even, this isn't even like, oh, well, you know if he gets one penalty it's actually a better race than and the biggest good surprise surely
Starting point is 00:02:10 surely he's going to have a good race in him and just maybe if it is just a calm race or something but he I feel like he needs to kind of turn him just being a meme around and put in a good performance because he is a talented driver
Starting point is 00:02:29 he's got it in him he's just become a bit bit too over-excited. So I thought that maybe you were finding a loophole here where if he doesn't get banned, then that's basically a biggest good surprise at this stage within being on 10 penalty points. One collision, and it might well be curtains for Kevin for a race, but we shall see.
Starting point is 00:02:52 You've just said as well that you might well be jinxing these drivers, so I feel like KMAG might even get banned before the Imler weekend. But let's see. Biggest flop. Okay, so we are six from six right now. God see. We are absolutely cooking. So I'm going to lock in Sergio Perez.
Starting point is 00:03:16 I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Czechos fans. I'm sorry Red Bull fans. I'm sorry. There's something in my bones that feels like it's not going to be a very good weekend for Checo. It's a difficult track. it punishes errors, I don't know. There is no other reason other than vibes.
Starting point is 00:03:35 It only ever is vibes with biggest flop, but I just feel as though it's not going to be a great weekend. Doesn't necessarily mean he's going to end in the barriers. He might. There's a lot of gravel traps now. There is. Yes, they have made some changes to the Imola track, which have got rid of runoff and Aquaminerali
Starting point is 00:03:53 and then the chican after that as well, which means it's going to punish errors up and down the field. But yes, I've gone for Sergio Perez. There's no, no, no, no, no, hard feelings, just pure biggest flop vibes. Interesting. I have returned to form and gone for a team biggest flop. Can't, can't resist. And I've gone for Mercedes.
Starting point is 00:04:16 I just feel like, I don't know what it is about Imala. I feel like they maybe won't perform. They're obviously not having a great season as it is. But, you know, maybe things get, get even worse. I think there's part of me that still can't sort of get how crazy that that moment was in 2020 when we last raced here that Hamilton, you know, when he got lapped by Vastappen when they were the two title challenges the year before. And Mercedes don't seem to have got 2012.
Starting point is 00:04:47 You did that thing again. You said 2020. What is that day? What is that year? I cannot. I was like 2020 when Hamilton got lapped by Vastappen. 22. There's too many twos.
Starting point is 00:04:57 I just, I can never say that year properly. I don't know what it is. It's just my brain just doesn't allow me to say it, which is great for podcasts. You just probably see my brain just whirring, fact-checking. I'm like, wait, what happened in 2020? Why did Hamilton get that five of a staff? And now, I'm pretty sure I was 22.
Starting point is 00:05:15 So, yeah, Mercedes biggest flop. Okay. Look forward to George Russell winning in Hamilton being knocked at in Q1 or something. That's usually what happens with you. Oh, God, yeah. Let's now go to pole position. It is. My boy, my man.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Charlecler. Charlecler's getting pole. There's a lot of talk about these Ferrari upgrades that are coming. Three tents a lap, this, that and the other. I'm totally ready for this. I have believed every ridiculous gossip rumor that's been flown around about Ferrari and their upgrades. And I think, look, let's have a little poll. let's get excited
Starting point is 00:05:58 Tommy won't be here but maybe that'll allow me to fully express myself and allow Shal to fully express himself with Tommy not being on the watch along as the kind of opposing power I was going to say because last time when it was just me doing it
Starting point is 00:06:12 so he stuck it in the wall so we shall see Or was it just a small It was a small error carried on in qualifying didn't he I mean come on it's not slanted too much It's stuck it in the wall Jesus
Starting point is 00:06:24 It was difficult conditions around China Very true Pol position I have gone for Landon Norris I am Holy wow You are on the hype train
Starting point is 00:06:37 Yeah I think Lando is going to have a It's a very landoey track I think He's good around there He took The McLaren when it was a tractor To a podium
Starting point is 00:06:49 And he's You know Off the high of his brilliant win And it's going to suit McLaren I think that track and I think yeah why not? Why not? We've both not gone for Max
Starting point is 00:07:02 and he has got population every single race this season so we'll see. Wow we, okay all right, well that could make for a very interesting race if either of our predictions come in. Let's go to our top three then beginning with third place
Starting point is 00:07:21 I'm locking in Carlos Sines again Ferrari the dream upgrades Carlos driving well. Charles maybe slightly getting the strangle hold over that relationship again. We will see. I think it will continue that way. But signs will, doesn't mean one driver's terrible if the other one's doing good.
Starting point is 00:07:40 I think signs is still going to do very well and get a podium. P3, I've gone for Sergio Perez. I do not think he's going to be as washed as, well, I regret this now massively because you've said biggest flop. So he's basically going to be in every gravel trap in every session. But maybe, just maybe, me not being there will end your biggest flop powers. But who am I kidding? He's definitely not doing it, is he?
Starting point is 00:08:10 I'm still claiming that I'm like 100% record when you're here if it like doesn't come in or something because technically you won't be there when you reflect on it. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. But when it's me and you on the podcast, maybe that will upset the powers slightly. But either of, okay, Peres P3. Second position, I've calmed my deletable. down ever so slightly and stuck
Starting point is 00:08:31 Charles LeCler there. I think the pace will be there. I think Ferrari will be very quick. It just won't be enough because there will be a certain man that might return to the top step of the podium. Spoiler alert. There you go. But Charles P2, I'll take it. I'll take a P2. P2, I have gone for
Starting point is 00:08:51 Lando Norris. So a little poll to P2. Good weekend, still going to bag a lot of A lot of points. I think he'll do very well. I would be surprised if he doesn't get a podium, actually, with how well. I think this track will suit him a lot. And obviously, McLaren have been, yeah, it's a very exciting time to McLaren after their little upgrades.
Starting point is 00:09:18 So I've gone for P2 Landau. Okay. Wow, you really are sold fully in now, aren't you? Those 10 upgrades, you're like, yes, please. McLaren are now there. I just feel as though Ferrari will be slightly quicker than McLaren this weekend but you think the other way around perhaps so we shall see and in first position
Starting point is 00:09:37 Max Flaven congratulations Maxxed Abin you get a win again after he'll go on another streak now about seven in a row probably and I thought that after science sorry we thought that after science we did we did he hasn't got a rogue bollard to rip some of his floor out. So I would be interested to see just how much quicker Lando was because it wasn't really a
Starting point is 00:10:03 level playing field. But I think Max Verstappen will come back with a vengeance and make sure that he's on that top step again so that order is resumed. Indeed, I've also gone for Max Verstappen. I think it's hard to bet against him. There was part of me that thought maybe Lando's waited so long for that win that he might get another one and McLaren could challenge. but hearing more about the damage that he had
Starting point is 00:10:30 and the fact that he is so strong during the race, I have gone for Max, but you never know because the man's not in very good form. Only two-thirds of the races he's won this year, which is pretty poor for Max. Terrible. If you'd have said that,
Starting point is 00:10:50 I think we'd have been like, oh, what a season. What a season we're having? Well, actually, it's not really quite the right picture. being painted there. But yes, we shall see. I think that with him saying that the car was like horrendous during Miami and he still finished second, just kind of proves that when that Red Bull is working well, it's a lot
Starting point is 00:11:12 quicker than the second place. So there you go. That's our top three. We now go to our one crazy prediction. I can feel it in my bones. We're going to have rain at some point. It's coming. Rain is on its way.
Starting point is 00:11:27 and Imola likes to rain you know just a little spicy action here there or everywhere and I am I'm keen for it am I keen for it I don't know it depends if Ferrari
Starting point is 00:11:36 is quick in the dry if they are let's keep the rain away but yeah there's some moisture moisture in the air I was going to say how would you feel
Starting point is 00:11:44 if Ferrari are like FP3 second Claire of Stapper and then it checks it down with rain and the fifth and six I will travel to Italy and put
Starting point is 00:11:55 massive umbrella around the track Yeah. Nice. Speaking of Ferrari, my one crazy prediction is that Charlotte Claire does not finish in the top four. Because... I think it's a finish with... That would have been... That would have been even wild.
Starting point is 00:12:15 He's the only driver to finish in the top four. And basically, I thought, a little banter thing. I'm always wrong. And even if I'm right, I'm not... And even if I'm right, I'm actually not on the... podcast so you can't ever get me so um oh no i will no don't worry if anything i'll go harder because you won't be there i will just be fully laying into you um so you can enjoy that episode uh in the where are you going again do you want to share to everybody where you're going so whilst you're
Starting point is 00:12:45 enjoying Croatian beverages i will be absolutely laying into you right and then our three crazy predictions from you wonderful lot first and foremost from p1 patreon member green bene another Vastappan revenge tour where he dominates every single session we'll do that competitively so be qualifying in the race we won't do the three practice sessions as well that'll be a bit crazy
Starting point is 00:13:06 P1 Patreon member Sophie double V-car points again and P1 Patreon Haley 29 LeCler and Signs take each other out Oof Haley I do not appreciate you putting that into the atmosphere
Starting point is 00:13:22 but if it does happen I would be very interested to see how that affects their relationship moving forward. But that is it. I see, that's for sure. I don't want to think about that anymore because I do not want it to happen.
Starting point is 00:13:33 Tommy, what are your final thoughts before you go on your escapades? My final thoughts are, I've just realised as we do the prediction counting and assessing during the race podcast, I am pleading to Alex Jakes to back my corner.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Like you say, when George Russell does win the race and Lewis Hamilton finishes last or vice versa, that he can fight my corner that it's still somehow a biggest flop. Yeah, how are we awarding the points? I guess I'm going to be in charge here. I better not come back and see that it's like 48, 18 or something in the... What is it at the moment?
Starting point is 00:14:11 18 all. It is 18 all. Yes. That wasn't from the previous one. It is actually 18 all. It's 18 all now, yeah. Okay. I could have sworn I was behind you now after the last weekend
Starting point is 00:14:20 because I felt like you nabbed some easy points. But maybe not. If it is 18 all, we'll take it. It's because you've got the double pointer, didn't you? I did, yeah. What a banger that was. Two points for an insane biggest flop of Max Lestappen finishing second. What a sport at the moment is.
Starting point is 00:14:37 You sound like social media complaining when it's like, it doesn't have to be the biggest flop, but it's still technically a flop. So yeah, that is it. Thank you, everybody. We will see you live. I'll be live on Twitch for the watchalongs as always. Do not worry. So Matt P1, Tommy, on Twitch, if you do not follow us already,
Starting point is 00:14:52 and the podcast. And all the content will still be there in your feeds as you have come to know it all. So we will see you soon. Tommy, have a lovely holiday. And take care. Lots of love. Bye.
