Hello everybody, welcome back to the P1 podcast with Matt and Thomas Bellingham.
Wow.
Matt, yes.
Thank you.
No problem, darling.
We're back.
It is another Grand Prix weekend.
We've had a week off.
And after having a triple header, it feels like we've not spoken about Formula One in about three years.
It's great to be back.
We've got Monaco without the walls coming up, Hungary.
And it's a very, I mean, we constantly say it, but I feel like it is genuinely.
a thing is that this is an underrated circuit.
It's produced some great races in the past.
And I feel like we might be on for another one
because the 2024 season is a stone cold banger
with Max Verzappen winning by 400 points.
It is turning into that, isn't it?
Yeah, Hungary, we do a little Patreon pod
if you want to check it out where we go through classic races.
And this one is a really difficult one to choose
because for a track that, like you say,
is Monaco without the walls.
You kind of expect, oh, it's boring,
and you can't overtake,
but for whatever reason,
it has produced so many memorable races.
So hopefully, another one.
I mean, based off this season, like you say,
it's so surprisingly good.
It certainly is.
Now, considering we're doing plunks,
let's do another one.
Our American tour, which starts in Canada,
but our American tour.
Tickets are selling very well,
incredibly well, in fact.
New York is almost sold out.
So if you want to see myself and Tommy
be two plebs on a stage in America or Canada,
then please come.
Ticket link will be in the description.
It's also in our, what you might call it,
thing in the socials, isn't it, Tommy?
Link tree.
Link tree, that's the one.
So if you want to come and see us, please do.
We're seeing lots of you message us
and we're sharing a few on our stories
and things like that.
We'd love to see you there.
We can't believe we're going away from the UK
to go and do our live show
and we're very, very excited.
So we'd love to see you there.
Let's get into our predictions.
Look like you're about to say something.
I was about to say.
I was about to, I was about to,
that for those of you that messages as well about the Austin date,
and basically might be quite tricky to get to after the Grand Prix,
it's now later.
So re-check that out if you were worried about not being able to make it.
Yes, I believe we pushed it back to a 9pm start.
So that's as late as we can get.
I think the doors will open at 8.
So yes, we've tried our best to accommodate for the terrible traffic.
And actually, probably a good thing as well, Tommy,
because we haven't thought of that.
And I'm assuming we'd like to be there.
as well to see the race.
It would be nice, wouldn't it?
We'll see.
Anyway, let's get into our predictions.
Starting with biggest, good surprise.
Feeling energetic today.
Feeling good, feeling positive after a difficult time.
As you can see, Ferrari wearing man.
I am locking in Charle-la.
Because two reasons, maybe more.
reasons. One, he's had the worst run of form possible. So a cheeky little top 10 finish and not
being lapped is a biggest good surprise. Two, I am delirious. And three, it's Monaco without the
walls. And look who won Monaco this year is Charler-Clois. I actually think that Sharla's had a bad
run of form to team me up beautifully for a biggest good surprise because he is going to do very well
around Hungary. And it's going to get me a point. I feel, I feel good. The smile is on
my face.
I don't know why, because as I said,
I think I've seen Charles lapped three in the last four races,
which is absolutely horrific.
Holkenberg has not only scored more points than Perez,
but LeCler as well.
And I think I haven't fact-checked this,
but people have been messaging me saying combined as well,
which might well be the case.
But either or, definitely individually
have been outscored by Holcombberg.
So Charles back.
Interesting.
So biggest good surprise, I've gone.
something quite insane because it did not work last time at Silverstone.
I'm going to do it again and you'll understand when I say it.
I've gone for Alexander Albem.
So funny because I was literally doing the same thing.
Yeah.
Because look, someone has to break.
Carlos Sites broke this jinx that people seem to think we have.
And I get it.
You know, we spoke to Pierre Gasley.
He didn't even start the race.
so I understand why people think.
And I can't finish.
And I can't.
Yeah, Alpin basically fell off a cliff in terms of form
as soon as we set foot in their motorhome.
But apart from that,
I think Alex is going to have a good weekend.
And maybe the combination of you speaking to them
and me going biggest good surprise,
it's like a double, you know, like a reverse thing.
And it's the flop that you usually run.
Yeah, so, yeah, yeah.
So we'll see.
But no, I do think Alex will have a good weekend.
They've not been particularly good at the high-speed circuit.
So that's my thinking there,
as well as obviously just going for a bit of a rogue choice
and thinking that he might change the...
Because we've had so many comments
as soon as we said we were doing a thing with Albon,
it's like, well, there's the DNF in Hungary.
Yeah, I know.
I saw so many on the social post and in the video.
And I'm like, if Williams slash Alex Albon
does not know about this P1 curse,
they're going to be reading these comments.
It's like, what on earth are people talking about?
Hopefully they do, fingers crossed.
It's not meant with anything but love, really.
Funny, because I was actually thinking the same thing.
And also, if Alex does perform well here at Hungary,
it's confirmation that you are the problem, Tommy.
Okay.
Just saying.
I'm just saying, Carlos might have been immune to you,
but everyone else hasn't.
So let's see.
But Alex is off the back of points scoring finish in Silverstone.
So he's going to have to essentially win the race now
for it to be biggest good.
surprise, no?
You say that.
You're blaming me here, and then they just thought of the last time you interviewed
someone without me was Daniel Ricardo, and the next race was Zandvort, so fingers crossed.
Yeah, fair enough.
All right, let's move on.
Biggest flop!
Okay, man's had far too good of a street recently.
Lance Stroll, he's having a flop, because he's actually been quite good, and he's been
chefing Fernando Alonzo.
and I need to do this for you, Tommy.
I feel like, you know,
I don't want to see sporting pain in your eyes.
It only happens to me.
People need to have that balance
of you being smug and winning everything.
Now, I just think, Lance Stroud,
bad weekend coming in Hungary.
No reason apart from vibes,
but am I still, I can't even remember.
Did I score points for the last biggest flop?
I did, didn't I, Silverstone?
Pretty sure I did.
Who did you go for?
I have completely forgotten.
No, we didn't.
No, we got zero points.
We got zero points.
who got the double DNF.
Oh no, the flop is dead.
Yeah, yeah.
I've only got 10 right in the last however many.
But anyway, Lance Strom, locked in.
Interesting.
Okay, so biggest flop I have gone for.
What is that smirk?
You stop that immediately.
I've gone for a team.
And that team is Ferrari.
Oh, for God's sake.
How can they flop any more than this, Tommy?
Because my theory is that there's going to be a lot of
hyper and Ferrari because it's Monaco without the walls exactly what you said with
Charle-A-Claire and I think there's more to it than just that they're going to rock up
a track a bit similar to Monaco and be good again I think something has whatever they're
doing maybe they're doing it you know they've gone for upgrades to try something
different or they're you know developing for the future but for whatever reason
Ferrari have fallen off and for me
the whole Monaco thing, I get it, but I also think to pay a little compliment, as soon as I've just slanded Ferrari and saying the biggest flop, to Charlotte Claire, is a lot of that for me is Charlotte Claire's brilliance in Monaco as well. He's done it when he's, you know, even when the Ferrari's not been there, he's been at the front in Monaco. So I don't necessarily think that just because the circuit characteristics are a bit like Monaco means that Ferrari going to do well.
Great. Well, your opinion's invalid.
So it's supposed to be really hot this weekend as well.
Like 33 degrees.
So surprise you didn't go for Mercedes' biggest flop with that.
But either or, thanks so much, mate.
But then your flop's always wrong.
So actually, I will be thanking you when they've just secured a one to at the end of the weekend.
Pole position.
Max Verstappen.
Max Verstappen's going to get poll.
He was utterly brilliant last year.
at Hungary and just destroyed everybody.
And I feel like we've had a good run.
We've had a really good run of everyone sort of challenging him.
But yeah, I just feel as a max polars on the cards again.
I do. I really do.
When was his last?
Oh, actually it's sooner than I thought.
He had one in Austria.
But yeah, we've had a run of one, two, three, four.
Oh, wait, no, it was four different.
Still, yeah, it's been a while since Max was dominating pole position.
It's only a one pointer now, of course, remember.
I can get double points if I get Max right now because it's so rare.
Okay, so the pole position, I have gone for George Russell again.
Back to back pole positions.
I think Mercedes is going to be very quick again.
They've found something for sure.
and George's good at this track,
been on pole before,
and he is rapid in qualifying.
So I could see it happening again.
Haven't Merck had polls around here in 22 as well?
22, yeah, you got one in 22,
which was really unexpected.
And now, you know, they're from the last two races.
I can't believe we're here after the season we've been having
to say that
I mean, it makes the prediction
so much better
doesn't it let's be honest
because it really does
so open now
you could have the McLaren's
you could have
the Mercedes
the Red Bull
the Ferraris
that may be
yeah it's not even like
a complete
it's not even like
a complete
delusion thing now
to not put
max pole
or win or whatever
like it used to be
where it used to be
like oh I deserve
two points
because I'm completely
like going
completely
rogue like not one it's not one um yeah he's not won every race he actually hasn't this this year
no he hasn't have we we haven't actually reminded everyone what the score is between us do you know
what the scores are uh just to confirm i know i was leading by one point i can't remember the exact
score i mean leading by one point's fine it was it was very close we kept it close with our
absolute disaster class in um um when was it spain and silver's day and silver's
as well.
We didn't score anything.
Well, sorry, yeah.
We had Spain and then Austria.
Yeah.
Yeah, it was, it is, I'm needed by one point, basically.
It's almost like F1 has become really unpredictable
and now we're just not scoring anything.
It's really quite something.
It's good to see because this series was a lot of more.
I almost was like, I want to predict someone of the max,
but it's also like, I want points.
So it was kind of a
I mean the fact that we started this series in 2023
Why did we start this series for the 20203 season
But boy, has it got like it's coming into its own now
Certainly is
Let's go to our top three
In third position
Charlecler
That's biggest, if he's on the podium
That's the biggest good surprise, straight up
A lap down or just
A lap down in third place
I'll still take it
If it's still on the podium, I can care if he's five laps down.
I think it's a good surprise locked in, thank you.
Yeah, fair.
P3, I have gone for Lewis Hamilton, another Merck podium.
And yeah, I've gone for...
You've got a Merck fan ball of us, don't you?
Well, for predicting them.
Yeah.
Yeah, I do think Merck would do well.
I think if it's really hot, they won't do that great this weekend.
But let's see.
In second position, Lando Norris.
What more is there to say?
Shall I just give my P2?
Because my P2 is also Lando Norris.
Is it? Okay.
And I think I was going to make exactly the same joke of what more is there to say,
which is really savage because it makes it sound like a dis.
But it does feel like, I don't know,
there's something about just predicting the podium now.
You're like, oh, Lando P2.
It's like it happens so much this year.
Like, yeah, it really does.
Not that that's a slander to him.
No, exactly.
That's kind of what's happened a lot of the time.
Sometimes it's him.
Sometimes it's McLaren.
Indeed.
Hopefully it's not McLaren again because there will be, well.
Yeah, for his sake, hopefully he just finishes second on pure pace.
And it's just a lovely race for him, but he finishes second.
Because in first position,
Max Vastappan.
Yep.
We're back.
We're back to Vastappan winning.
He's back after his pathetic P2 in Silverstone.
Dreadful.
So he's going to bounce back, hungry.
He's, yeah, going to be a P1 for me.
Nice.
P1 I have gone for.
George Russell.
No, you have.
I'm continuing the Mercedes.
Max isn't even on the podium, bro.
I know.
Well, look.
he was nowhere in Monaco was he
you call yourself a Max for Stafforda?
I know how dare I not predict him
I'm also a very very pessimistic person
but yeah
I just
I did literally just
I know this is what we do but I wrote out
what I thought was it going to be
and then I was like wait I've not put Max in there
and yeah I just
the fact that it's so close now
Red Bull are falling back into that pack
it has to be said and
I do think
He's papering over the cracks of Red Bull big time at the moment.
And boy, I mean, if I am right, I never normally am, but say I am.
And Max is not on the podium.
And Mercedes win a third race in a row.
Championship, Buckhorn?
One, well, not even Matt.
Maybe Max is like going, oh, you know what?
Maybe I will go to Mac.
Ooh.
Saucy.
Let's go to our one crazy prediction then
something I definitely saw as blank in my sheet
until about five seconds ago
so I've just filled that in
I am going for slight loophole
going to fly myself straight through there actually
more than three DNFs
sorry three or more DNFs
Yeah yeah
Three or more DNFs
because we are very much in an era
where we don't have anyone DNFing really
I mean Gazley was...
He's bold nowadays
Yeah how many did we have in Silverstone
was it just Gassley?
Yes.
He didn't even make the start.
So I think three or more.
No, two.
Russell, of course.
Oh, sorry, yeah.
Sorry, George.
Whoops.
Yeah, three or more DNFs.
I think it's going to be a hot, intense battle,
and it's going to cause a few cars to go.
Three of DNFs, a race of attrition.
Yeah, that's going to be seen as like the Monaco.
Monaco 96
Yeah
That is how
It's funny though
Because yeah
Just looking through the results
You had two DNFs in
In the last race
Without the Lando crash
He was actually classified
So it doesn't even count as a DNF
So you had all 20 technically finishing in Austria
All 20 finishing in Spain
So it does
Does happen a lot more now
So it is definitely a bold
bold prediction.
I am continuing my theme
and my crazy prediction
is that Max Osteppen
does not extend
championship lead after Hungary
which he's not
which is...
I've been constantly been extending his title lead
so that basically means that Lando beats him
Lando beats Max
yeah
because there's not
know unless
Charles
Clare wins
and Lando and
Max D&F
that's another
way we can
eat into
I mean
knowing your
biggest good
surprise
probably will happen
maybe
fingers crossed
okay interesting
stuff
and that's what we
need
we need Max to start
being caught
if we're going to
have any hope
of a championship
fight
he's what
55 plus
29
84 points
clear now
that's a lot
of points
that is a lot
of points. Let's hope it comes down a little bit
so it can be a bit more interesting. We are halfway through the season there.
Yep. Still time.
There's still time. Let's go do three
crazy predictions from you, beautiful people.
First and foremost, Leiboy 910.
Double points for V-Carb.
That would have to be a race of attrition.
Law VsX. Oscar Piastri gets his first win.
We'll see on that one.
And Aidan the Squitten.
Aston Martin Podium. Oh my God.
He's been smithing that Tommy Pack.
ours were quite crazy and the fans have just gone the fans have had a week without F1
and think we're still in like 2012 or something and not just the fact that it's slightly
best season than we thought it would be that's the mind and not looking too good
moor but interesting it'll have to be Alonzo because you've gone stroll biggest flop so
true I mean it had to be Alonzo anyway really let's be let's be real here and that is it
Thank you, everybody, for watching and listening to these wonderful predictions.
Reminder, of course, that our US slash starting in Canada live show tour is available.
Tickets will be in the link in the description on YouTube and also on our social medias.
So please come along if you would like to get a ticket.
Do not miss out because myself and Tommy will be live on stage
and you want to take on Tommy and challenge Tommy,
which you might know or not know about where one of you comes up on stage.
It takes on the encyclopedia that is Tom Bellingham.
In a quiz.
So it did actually quite well itself, so I think I'll like four out of five.
Yeah, he did well done, mate.
Like the other person's supposed to win and yet you still drop.
What was it that you got on the, on the, it was the, it was the, it was a guess.
Yeah, it was a.
It was a complete guess.
Yes.
And you said Gerhardberg was it?
I said Johnny Herbert.
It was Canada.
Sorry.
Canada.
And you got it right.
I knew it actually, you picked a random race.
I knew a lot about it, but I didn't know who was fifth.
I did just guess.
but just random midfield driver.
Yeah.
Yeah, ridiculous.
Anyway, tell me,
what are your final thoughts?
She haven't actually shared me
with your final thoughts, mate.
Come on.
Final thoughts are,
I hope you guys are
enjoying predictions even more,
even if we're going to be wrong
for the rest of the year now,
because it's so much more interesting
and difficult to do
rather than me just loading up the sheet
and going,
Max has happened, Maxis of Staphan, Maxis' Staphan,
Max just happen.
Sure.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
Looking forward to F1 being back and continuing this brilliant season.
Looking forward to being wrong, I think, is a weird thing to say in predictions.
But that's what we like to see.
And also, just a side note, thank you for your love about the driver ratings.
We saw it and we know that there are some people that like that series.
So we will continue it, even if we both want to throw ourselves in a dustbin
when we released the video.
I did.
Just one thing, that we have this running joke where it always.
seems to be someone commenting about
Joe Guan News Race and it was so funny
because I went through the comments
and it was like, love driver ratings
absolutely. I love the series. Keep it up.
Guys, driver ratings are so good.
Keep doing it. Keep doing it.
Joe ran wide on lap three
and he had
a two pence coin on his tyre
which affected him by 0.1 of a second.
A two pence is so cute.
Oh dear.
Yes.
Well, we can always rely on people to correct us on the show super fans that we'll
We love to see it up, keep it up.
Right, that is it.
Thank you, everybody.
See you soon.
Lots of love.
And we'll be live for all sessions bar qualifying because we are at the Formula E.
But we'll be not all sessions, competitive sessions.
So Sunday, we'll be live on Sunday.
Bye.
Bye.
Bye.
