Starting point is 00:00:05 Hello everybody and welcome back to the B1 podcast with Matt and Tommy. It's prediction time once again. It is getting very tasty. Five races, Grand Prix plus two sprints to go. But this one is not a sprint race, Tommy. It is Mexico. How excited are you for this one? Yes, three practice sessions at Mexico is going to feel quite long.
Starting point is 00:00:33 So hopefully qualifying. is a good one. And the race, of course. And practice, hey, practice might be entertaining as well. You never know. I guess we've got new drivers back in, but it's always strange, isn't it? When we don't have sprints,
Starting point is 00:00:48 I'm always kind of like, no, I don't really like sprints. And then when we do have a sprint and we go back to a normal race, my God, do the practice sessions feel like a lot longer than normal, don't me? Okay, so it's 48, 46 to you, Tommy. So you need to calm down and keep this close to the, final Grand Prix. Let's see what you've cooked up this week. Let's start with Biggest Good Surprise.
Starting point is 00:01:11 I'm backing my man. And I feel like I've backed him many times going into Mexico. It's a low-grip track. Svaltery Bottas. Svaltery Bottas, the goat of low-grip tracks. They're off the back of looking horrendous in the last race. So something crazy is going to have to happen. But I will literally take Bottas beating two cars in order for this to
Starting point is 00:01:35 come in. So the low-grit bot- What is there to lose? Exactly. Interesting. So my biggest good surprise I've gone for, Lando Norris. I say he didn't have the best weekend. He still had a good performance. I think a lot of people forget that. He's still very, very quick.
Starting point is 00:01:54 But didn't get the result that he was after. But I think that would change in Mexico. Well, I don't think McLaren have suddenly lost pace. I do think it was a bit of a flash in the pan where they were in Austin. So, yeah, I think Norris is going to come back and have a flash in the pan, but in a bad way. Yeah, a burn in the pan. It's going to say a flash in the pan is usually a good thing that doesn't last.
Starting point is 00:02:25 Yeah, a fire in the pan, but a bad fire. Yeah. A stain in the pan. Okay, let's move on. Yes, I think Norris is going to have a good weekend. He's going to be back to his... He was still very quick in Austin anyway, but I think he'll be even quicker again and have a good weekend.
Starting point is 00:02:46 Wow, beautifully elicuted there, Tommy. Okay, let's get the biggest flop. Max Verstappen. Oh, at Mexico of all places. The power. The power is... I can feel it in my veins. Okay, it's coursing through me.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Max Verstappen's... having a terrible weekend. Don't know why. Is it me just hoping the championship goes down to the wire? Yes. But there's also part of me that wrote this down and is now regretting it immediately. But I've locked it in. The biggest flop returns in Mexico.
Starting point is 00:03:20 Just vibes, is it? It's always vibes, mate. It's always vibes. His race as well normally, isn't it? Mexico is like the one that he does well. But it'd be interesting to see your powers versus mine and how they go. Biggest flop. I've gone for Yuki Sanoda. Didn't have a good weekend last time.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Concerned, it might get worse, particularly if Lawson doesn't have a great penalty this time. I think he had a bad race in there in Mexico last time where he made a bit of a crazy lunge when he was doing very well. And yeah, I think there'll be a lot of pressure on Yuki Sanoda going into this race because of what happened with Lawson last time. And I've just got some... a bad feeling that he's going to have a bit of a difficult one.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Okay, look forward to seeing Sonoda on the podium. Great work there, Tommy. I see what you're doing there. So obviously, I biggest flopped Max Verstappen. I said that I was hoping for a championship to go down to the wire. Well, we go to pole position. Forget Landau Norris taking him to the wire. It's Joel LeClaire on pole.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Because I didn't back him last time, and then he went and won Austin. and Ferrari are actually looking rather tasty. And look, did they not get a random front row lockout here not that long ago? Last year, yeah. It was last year? It was literally last year that was it front row lockout. I think it was a Ferrari one too.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Yeah, out of nowhere. Yeah, out of nowhere. So Ferrari good form. I look at that last year. Two and two equals seven. Probably. Yeah. My math is also bad apparently because I've also got.
Starting point is 00:05:01 for Char Leclair. Oh, stop it, you saucy saucy. Ferrari looked very, very good indeed in Austin. Pole last year, Leclair's amazing in qualifying, and I won't put him past getting pole position again. Ferrari loved to turn the wick up at the end of the season and suddenly just find a bucket-load of performance as well when you get right near to the end of the season.
Starting point is 00:05:28 So I could see another poll for Char Leclair. Although there's not been that many of them this year, has there? Nope. It's actually been the same amount of wins as polls. So your prediction is still on? It's our, well, it won't be on if this comes true. So I'll happily take a P2 slipstream down towards term one and win the race. Sometimes it's better at Mexico, of course.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Exactly. So yes, okay, both of us have gone for Shal. Let's go to our top three, starting with third place. I have gone for Carlos Sines. Yep. Ferrari going to be quick. Carlos is going to be there but it's not going to be any higher than third
Starting point is 00:06:04 I just I feel it I feel like Carlos can have a good weekend don't get me wrong like Austin was a great weekend for him have I put his team ahead of him stay tuned to the next couple of minutes to find out P3 I've gone for Maxa Steppen so yeah he's going to get another podium
Starting point is 00:06:22 but I think the last race showed that they've improved a little bit but they're still not quite there compared to the Ferraris and the McLaren's. So even though it is his track that he normally would perform well at, even when it was, you know, the Mercedes dominance max would seem to win all the time at Mexico.
Starting point is 00:06:43 But I'm going for P3. Okay. Well, that'll be not my biggest flop coming in then if he finishes third. In second place, I've gone for Lando Norris. Yep, Lando, it's going to have a, well, yeah, a better-ish weekend, I think. I think that McLaren will be a strong package. In Austin, as you said, Tommy earlier,
Starting point is 00:07:06 they were still decent. They just didn't deliver what perhaps they should have done. Ring the bingo card. We'll cross that off once again. But yeah, look, they've still got an incredibly good car, so it'd be silly for me to not put at least one of the McLaren's on the podium. So that's what I've done. Lando in second.
Starting point is 00:07:24 P2, I have gone for Charlotte Claire. He's going to have a good race, but despite starting from pole, I've not gone for the victory. I think mainly my thinking here is, as I mentioned, where we're talking about pole position. It's very difficult at the start when you're leading,
Starting point is 00:07:43 and I think normal service will resume with the Charlotte Claire poll and a not win. I'm not happy at all about that, that those comments, to be honest with you. Really trying to bring me back down to earth, huh? Okay. All right. Oh, dear.
Starting point is 00:08:00 again, how was it flipped to me being angry that you're predicting in P2 when I would have taken that? Season keeps changing, doesn't it? It's incredible. Okay, in first position, I've of course gone for, Shao LaClaire. Should have really learned from the fact I put everything Lando Norris last time out, and then that did not come in. And usually when I back Ferrari off of a good performance, that's when it doesn't usually do very well. let's see what will I regret these predictions
Starting point is 00:08:34 probably but I've got to I have to I have to I can't not back them again you know because there was someone in our live shows that we have a segment called controversial opinions if you're in the UK you would have not have seen that yet but you will see it in December if you come along to our shows nice plug Matt
Starting point is 00:08:50 but he said you call yourself a Charle-Claire fan but you don't back him or something like that and that was his controversial opinion so here you go to that one rogue man that called me out. Charlotte Claire everything. And then you'll get,
Starting point is 00:09:06 why do you, all the Charlotte Claire fans go, why are you backing him because you jinxed him? Right, so P1, I've gone for Lando Norris. I think he's going to return to form. I think he's going to have another one of those races like he did in Zandvoort,
Starting point is 00:09:22 Singapore, for example, where he gets into the lead at the start and then he goes see you later. He had an amazing race to last year from the back, where he kind of carved his way through the field. And this year he's in a much better car. So I think he's going to deliver a very good performance. Maybe championship back on as well, of course, with the Lando win.
Starting point is 00:09:46 Let's go to our one crazy prediction. And I've been cooking on this one. Sergio Perez scores the top six. So I was looking. Checks results. He has scored. Two, three, four. Wait, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve.
Starting point is 00:10:04 Out of 13, races, he's had one top six. in the last 13th? Yeah. He's finished 7th, 10th, 17th, 8th, 6th, 7th, 17th, 8th, 18th, 8th. That's the last 13th results. Oh, wow. So that is a loophole of I've ever seen it. I mean, it's not even a loophole because it's probably not going to happen.
Starting point is 00:10:24 But one top six in 13 races. That is crazy. Yeah, I didn't comprehend. I knew obviously he was finishing a lot. long way behind Max and not having great performances. But it kind of felt like he was still there in the points. But yeah, it has been very much seventh and eighth, basically, all the time. Yeah, that's what you get with four quick teams now, doesn't it?
Starting point is 00:10:49 Indeed, yeah. Yeah, that's my crazy prediction. Tommy, what loophole have you found? I have found, well, I am backing Ferrari. And I'm going to say that Ferrari overtake Red Bull in the Constructors Championship, which is also a... Is that crazy? Is that crazy when they're eight points behind and Red Bull have Sergio Perez?
Starting point is 00:11:13 I am going to question this one massively right now. Well, they also have Max Osteppen. Who has not won since Spain. But it's still eight points, isn't it? They don't take eight points out of them every race. Off the back of Ferrari taking about 40 points out of them in the last race. Very interesting. Are you going to lock that in?
Starting point is 00:11:34 Because I'm going to put it to the comments. if they negate your crazy prediction you don't have a crazy prediction for this week. Thoughts? Wait, I don't even get one. You've had far more flaky predictions. Tommy, you are two points ahead and I'm going to question everything from here on in.
Starting point is 00:11:50 If there is not a crazy prediction right now, maybe you could say like Ferrari outscore Red Bull by a certain amount of points, sure. But overtaking them for eight, I'm not having, I'm sorry. They're off the back of a one two. Eight. I've got to score nine to be ahead. Yes, I know that, but that's,
Starting point is 00:12:07 not big enough of a... How much, how much did they score them outscore on last race? A massive amount. They had the sprint as well where they finished second and third. Second and fourth, sorry. Right. You do the fan ones and I'll think of another
Starting point is 00:12:24 because you're annoyingly right, aren't you? Thank you. Thank you very much. Okay, so the three crazy predictions from you wonderful lot whilst Tommy wears in his brain about what loophole you can go through this time. Librarian Burt Lawson out qualifies and finishes
Starting point is 00:12:38 ahead of Perez in the main race Wow, that's a double whammy Okay Fahann S741839342 Lewis Hamilton podium after a bad weekend in the US Okay And finally it's Peter Clark
Starting point is 00:12:53 Top 5 finish for a Formula B car Interesting Okay Well those are three of those Tommy have you come up with a crazy prediction yet Uh I will go go for Esteban Okon, best of the rest.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Okay, I'll allow that. I know exactly what you're doing. Ocon gets the upgrade, then finishes best of the rest, which actually should have done last time out. But that's fair enough. That's crazy. Okay, I'll allow it.
Starting point is 00:13:20 Thank you very much, Tommy. And there we go. That is our predictions done and dusted. Love the little battle that we've had here, but you've got to fight for every point right now, Tommy, and I'm not letting crazy predictions like that slip through the net. And I did my research for my one. And you are two points behind as well.
Starting point is 00:13:35 Exactly. So thanks for the lean. convenience there Tommy. What are your final thoughts? Final thoughts are hopefully Ferrari don't do it now. Don't catch Red Bull. Oh. Why hopefully? Um, because then I'm not going to get the point anyway, so. So you're like, well, you can't be happy either, Matt. That's basically what you're saying here. You're throwing your toys out the bram. Yeah. My crazy prediction's been good as well so you should have locked that one in and it would have happened but so now you're saying for a bad weekend it's because I challenge your bestie all right fair enough
Starting point is 00:14:17 there we go then thank you everybody for watching and listening uh as we say live show tickets to our UK tour in the middle of December are live Edinburgh is sold out done and dusted sorry Scotland but you sold out that incredibly quickly if you want to come to any of the other venues then there'll be a link in our socials and everywhere else just type in P1, live share tickets.
