Hello everybody and welcome back to the P1 podcast with Matt and Tommy.
Yeah, we are here.
We are ready for another race week.
And it is what, round 10 now?
Are we into double digits of rounds?
This is ridiculous.
The Formula 1 season is just going at a right rate of knots.
Tommy Hay feeling, are you ready for this one?
I'm good.
I'm hoping Canada is a banger.
It always used to be back in the day.
But maybe it feels like we've not had one amazing Canadian Grand Prix in a while.
wild so maybe would you want fingers crossed which we say every year since the last banger of the can
now p1 live show tickets are still available get yours while you can so we're going to be announcing
some more sold-out shows i think very very soon so get on it if you want to see me in tommy
especially tommy live in the flesh uh on stage so everyone pays for let's be honest exactly they pay the
big bucks for that sort of stuff um right it is currently i don't really like saying this out loud 2417 to you
So it's my time to go first.
Fingers crossed, I can score some points.
Otherwise, you are running away with this one.
A good surprise.
I am locking in.
Kimmy Antonelli.
Okay.
Interesting.
Why?
You might ask.
I ask myself the same question.
I just had good vibes about Kimmy Antonelli this weekend.
I don't.
Well, I was going to say, I don't know if it's.
It's the most difficult track ever.
There are places where you can definitely slam into the wall.
You're acting like he can't drive.
No, he can.
You know, I'm just thinking as a rookie learning, you know, learning the limits of the car.
I regret everything.
No, it's fine.
I'm committed.
I'm committed.
And that is my good surprise, Kimmy Antonelli.
Because I think he's been on the run of a pretty poor few races.
He himself said it.
The triple header was not something that he was hoping for with DNFs and so on and so forth.
So let's get back to some good points finishes.
Okay, interesting.
My good surprise I've gone for, Lewis Hamilton.
Another driver who's had a poor run.
You know, I think it's been quite a big topic, hasn't it,
about Hamilton's performance recently,
particularly in the media discussing whether it was the right move
and has he still got it and things.
But, and maybe this is the boomer in me,
thinking old Canadian Grand Prix has gone by,
but when I think the Canadian Grand Prix,
I feel like it's a Lewis Hamilton circuit.
So I feel like he's going to have a good performance there
and kind of silence a few critics is what I've gone for.
Okay dokey. Tommy, who's your big flop?
My big flop may surprise a few people.
It's Yuki Sonoda, and I know what you're thinking.
Can it get any worse?
Apparently.
Apparently.
Yeah, yeah. I know people might say, yeah, can it get any worse? But maybe I'm just thinking about the second Red Bull driver around Montreal has had a few bad races for sure. I know this was a track where Sergio Perez would often have one of his mistakes and things. And I feel like a track like Montreal that's quite punishing when you don't have much confidence in the car.
I feel like it could get even worse for poor old Yuki Sonoda this weekend.
Did he not qualify last, last time I said?
Is he going to have to qualify 21st?
Maybe.
Yeah.
Well, maybe 14th or lower in the race.
You know, finished the heights of 13.
Lord, you really are down in the dumps about Yuki Sanoda.
My big flop is also in the Red Bull camp.
It's like at Cadjar.
I thought you're going to say Max then.
No, no.
This one's got a bit of a long,
sort of string of story here.
Okay.
I'm flopping Isaac Hadjar because Max is going to get banned and then Hadjar's going to get
promoted next row.
No, no, that's not what it is.
But I just feel as though, look, the big flops are usually just floppy vibes.
And Hadjar's been on a great run of form.
So it's kind of the other way around of, okay, who's on a really good run of form?
If they have even a slight dip, finished 12th, I can start really questioning whether
that was a big flop or not.
So that's what I'm going with Isaac Hadjar.
He's done very, very well.
season and it can be easy points if he just has a bit of a day off. So there you go.
Pole position. Let's see if the curse is broken. Lando Norris.
Oh, okay. Lando Norris is getting pole position. Well, I should confirm he is not getting
pole position because his name has exited my mouth. So yes, I've gone for Lando Norris.
just going to be a McLaren ding-dong
but Lando has the edge this time
Okay, I'm glad you went for Lando Norris
so I don't have to change mine
I've gone for Oscar Piastri
Yeah, I think it will be between the two McLaren's
We saw quite a big margin
Didn't we last time out?
Maybe surprisingly so
Because qualifying was where we kind of saw
McLaren at its weakest
still being like sometimes second or third on the grid
So, yeah, I feel like it's still going to be a fight between the two McLaren's and I've gone for Oscar based on just the form that he's had, of course.
Let's do a live Montreal weather look because I have...
To see if we both change to Maxis.
Yeah, of course.
I mean, on the Monday and the Tuesday after the race, there's rain forecast, Sunday is currently sunny.
Saturday is sunny intervals and Friday's overcast.
So yeah, if that moves ever so slightly.
Just one day earlier.
It might be do-da-da-da-da-mexas-tapping.
It could well be.
OK-do-do-key.
Let's head to third position, Tommy.
P3.
I have gone for Lando Norris.
Ooh.
Bold.
I'm going bold.
I'm a clarion P-3.
Not a 1-2.
Huge for the predictions championship.
Yeah.
Yeah, feel like Lando will it even be a bad race, I guess, maybe,
because of how the McLaren's you feel like they are going to challenge for that one to most races.
But yeah, I've gone for for Lando P3, just not feeling it this weekend for Lando.
Particularly, yeah, why P3?
Particularly after you've said his name.
So you know he's going to have a bit of a yeah, you're feeling really confident now.
Yeah, a tough one being third place.
Yeah.
In my third position, and I don't have to change it.
And if you're new to the predictions or if you just started tuning in this season,
we cannot go for the same predictions.
It keeps it a little bit spicy.
Makes us change on the fly.
My third position is Oscar Piastri.
Oh.
Yeah.
Yeah, different.
A McClaren in P3.
Another McLaren in P3.
Tommy, have we woken up a little bit saucy today?
Goodness gracious me.
Really pushing up at here.
We are feeling really crazy.
No, no Nico Holcombberg or anything like that in P3.
Just an Oscar Piastri.
You might be thinking, why, Matt?
He's a championship leader.
He's doing really, really well.
Well, yeah.
It's predictions.
It's hard.
I think he might not.
And I think he might not.
Exactly.
There you go.
Only the best insight on the P1 podcast.
To second place we go.
And I have a feeling both of us have gone for a non-McClaren.
So let's see if Tommy has to change this.
Because my second place is Max Verstappen.
Thank you very much.
Yes.
I think Tommy,
that exact face you just pulled needs to be screenshoted and created into a meme.
That was very much like, you know, the girl that was like,
Do I like it? I do like it. I don't like it.
Like it was a great little face you just pulled there.
But it's a Max for Stap and P2.
He will drive, I think, very, very, like Max drives hard anyway, right?
But I feel as though a fire would have been...
No, I'm sure he's going to be nice and calm because he's got 11 penalty points
and that'll be in the back of his mind all the time.
Yeah, yeah, no.
He'll drive like a fire is lit in his belly.
But it's only going to be P2 because the car is not as fast as a orange one.
Sorry, papaya one.
interesting
so I haven't had to change my prediction
oh
George Russell
I thought that man
thought he was popping up
nemesis
and yes
George would be his best result
of the year I believe
if he got a P2
still of course
not had that Mercedes win yet
but I don't think it's going to happen
in Canada but I do think George is going to be good
of course he did
yeah so ignore me completely
it would be a joint best result
It would be his best. It would just be joint best. And yeah, I've obviously feel like, you know, George has been delivering so much this season.
Monaco's a bit of a right-off, but that was, you know, a very unusual race, to say the least. And I feel like, yeah, George is going to be back on the podium and having a, yeah, going to have a good race.
Yep, very fair shout indeed, if they can get to the end of the race,
because reliability is their biggest problem so far.
First position, Tommy.
I have gone for Oscar Piastri.
Yeah, I have.
And Matt, even though he's predicted McLaren in P1,
is going to throw his toys out the prem now and get all like,
oh, how dare you?
Seven points clear, mate.
Flip him out.
I know exactly.
Bellingham dominance could bore fans.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
And Oscar Piastri dominance could bore fans
because I think the Oscar Piastri hype train
is just in, you know, it's hit maximum speed now
and he is just absolutely flying.
He's full of confidence.
I don't see it slowing down anytime soon.
He's driving amazingly well.
And yes, I'd love to see the McLaren's fight
and finally see them go wheel to wheel
and battle, but at the moment, I don't feel like Lando's got an answer for Oscar, so we'll find out.
Okay, in first position, and obviously it's not going to be that, because I've already predicted PAST for P3.
This is more of just a scientific experiment at this point.
Lando Norris, can he win?
Break the curse.
Can he win when I say his name?
Please.
I would love to see it for my own points, Talley, and also for Lerner, for Ler.
Lando to win as well. He's absolutely going to win in him. He won in Monaco. He can win. It just
needs to deliver in qualifying. I fully back that he will, if he can get pole position, like I've
suggested, I think he's got a fantastic chance of converting that into a win. He just needs to do
that on a Saturday and then it's absolutely game on. So I've gone for Landau P1. Now we head to our one
crazy prediction.
Hmm.
So my crazy prediction
and Tommy's smirking,
Tommy's laughing,
so I feel like he thinks
that I'm going to say something about Max.
Well, he's correct.
There will be an incident
that makes us question
whether Max will be banned or not.
I like it.
11 penalty points
coming into this race.
12 is written down
as a ban.
Kevin Magnuson has showed
that they do actually act upon that.
Will they actually act upon that?
Will they actually?
upon it against a four-time world champion that they don't know how he might react.
They didn't against Gassley, did they?
They were very, they're very cautious with Gassley's one.
He caused a massive impact in Australia with Ockon there and, nah, no, we don't need that.
But anyway.
It'd be a huge story, wouldn't it, if he did, because, you know, you look back on it.
And also, this is the thing, and I guess this is not what penalty points were bought in for you to,
and, you know, if you hit that threshold, you should absolutely be banned.
But you look back on it.
And of course, one of those penalty points was that very controversial incident, wasn't it?
Where he blocked you, George Russell, who wasn't even on a lap.
So imagine if he does get banned that everyone would start looking back on that going, oh, my God, it's ridiculous.
Yes, it's a singular penalty point.
Yes, if he gets two, then perhaps you'd have to find a couple of incidents.
But yeah, I think it'll just be an incident where we go, hold on.
Oh, was that a little bit?
Is that a little bit interesting?
Yeah, exactly, because people are very much thinking, oh, for Max to be,
be banned, he has to, you know, plow into the side of someone or cause a crash, but you can get
penalty points for crossing the pit exit line and things like that, you know, they've been given
before. So it could literally be a simple mistake of blocking someone in a practice session.
Do you get penalty points for blocking in practice? I feel like that might be a stretch.
Lance Strolled in block. He just sent Charles front way into Narnie. But in qualifying,
but in qualifying, of course, you can. Okay. Well, yeah, look, exactly. There's a window of possibilities here.
So what is yours, Tommy?
Mine is one I now regret due to your earlier predictions.
And my one crazy prediction is Antonelli on the podium.
So this was spreading my eggs.
Of course, you've gone for biggest good surprise.
A good surprise, Tommy.
You know, for the 12th time this year, we've rebranded,
and you keep calling it what it isn't anymore.
A good surprise.
A good surprise.
Yeah.
And Antonelli.
yeah, I think he's going to be good around here, actually.
I didn't put him on the podium because I'm going to spread the aides around.
Yeah, we don't need to talk about you spreading things, mate, to be honest with you.
So that's great.
That's not what you say on stream.
Offstream in particular.
But yeah, I think Antenade is going to have a good race.
That's annoying because now you said that, which isn't technically what I've gone for, but it also scores a point.
Oh, you found a leap.
That's a great leapole from you.
You make me.
Right, okay, let's go to our Patreon prediction, where if you are part of the P1 Patreon, you can submit your predictions every single race weekend, and we can choose one to be part of our overall predictions.
Tommy, it's over to you.
So I have gone for Nicole's prediction, which is Q3 for a Sauba.
Of course, you know, Salba are a very quick car now, after what we saw in Spain.
They ignited their Titanic battle with Ferrari, which we saw at the start of the season.
and yeah, Salba.
I feel like it could be either one of them as well
because Bortoletto has had some great qualifiers in him
as well as we all know what Nika Holkenberg can do.
So yeah, I've gone for a Q3 for a Salba.
Okay dokey.
My Patreon prediction is from Eddie This My Middle Name.
We finally get the McLaren fight.
Whatever that might well be.
They trip over each other in Park Fermat.
Yeah.
The fight could be that they're within a couple of tents in qualifying.
Whatever it is, let's get some points on the board.
But no, I think that it kind of makes sense, right?
I've got first Norris, Piastri third.
If they start fighting each other, Max isn't that far off the pace,
it could be game.
And then we finally get that conversation of,
wow, McLaren with two number one drivers doesn't work all the time
like we had last year.
But we've not really had that conversation
because they've never gone wheel to will, really,
apart from...
Because Max has been always fighting one of them
or getting in the middle of them.
Exactly.
So let's get the MacLawrower.
And I am backing that with a prediction as well.
Right, it's family top three time.
And realistically, I could level the scores this week.
Six three to the Bellingham's.
Boo, no one cares, boo.
So I've drafted my girlfriend, Ellie, who has watched Formula One for many, many, many years.
We've had her once before.
I think she scored one out of three.
So let's see if she can do three out of three this weekend.
Come on.
No Ferrari.
Hi there.
Hi.
Welcome to the P1 podcast, Ellie.
Are you ready for your top three?
I am.
Okay.
All right.
I know you've done a lot of research.
You're like,
when are you going to draft me in coach
and all this sort of stuff?
So my expectations are very high.
What are you going for third place?
Or who?
I am going to go for Max for Suffen in third place.
Okay.
All right.
All right.
Okay.
Okay.
We'll do the top two.
Wow.
Okay.
Let's see if you go for a double McLaren top two.
In second position you've gone for?
I've gone for Oscar Piastri in second position.
Okay.
Okay.
I love how Tommy, by the way, is going like, oh, I wonder who the top two is.
And your family always go for a top two McLaren.
Disgraceful.
Okay.
And in first position?
It's going to be very boring, but it's going to be landing off.
I feel like you need the points.
We do need the points.
Let's see if our safe sort of top three is actually going to come in
or if maybe it'll be a Ferrari one too.
Thank you so much.
Nice one.
I love you.
Bye.
Bye.
Okay.
All right.
Okay.
I don't know.
I feel okay about that.
I feel all right.
Who are you ringing this week, Tommy?
Well, I was going to ring my dad, but it's not going to be back in time.
So I'm going to ring my mum.
And actually, my mum does normally not go for McLaren.
Oh, yeah.
She'll go for the Ferrari.
Yeah, she goes for the crazy predictions.
My dad is always the one that goes top two.
That's crazy.
You literally just basically just basically begged your girlfriend not to predict Ferrari.
I did.
I did.
But I mean, crazy felt like a bit harsh.
It's like a Nika Holcomb bow podium.
That's crazy.
Kimmer the Zumbabee.
That's a strange sentence.
If she answered.
Hello?
Hello.
Hi, ma'am.
Hi.
Hi, ma'am.
I'm good.
I'm drafting you in because Dad's not back in time and we're recording now, if that's all right.
So no pressure.
So, okay, P3 for Canada.
Let's go.
Okay.
We can always rely on Tom's mom.
Yes.
Why?
Why?
Because Matt was basically being like, just rang his girlfriend and basically said, don't pick Ferrari.
But he just said we can always rely on you to pick Ferrari.
So here we go.
P2.
Oscar.
okay and p1
max
oh okay
I thought we were going to go
for like uh
uh lando p one
okay like it
thanks man
no no because max
he's going to be so cross
about what happened last time
he's gonna
barge everyone off
get a thousand penalty points
but also win
love it
okay cool
all right thanks mom
bye
love you bye
okay
wow
interesting
okay I thought
I thought my mum was
obviously she doesn't know
what Ellie predicted.
I thought she was going to say Lando and then we lock in like...
The rules and regulations don't go as far as the family predictions.
So I've come into this going, the Gallagher's can tie it up and your mum was like,
no, we'll go for the same second place.
So, okay.
All right.
Well, whatever.
That can't happen now.
Yeah.
Good tactical play.
Yeah, that's goal hanging.
That's goal hanging right there.
Right.
That is it.
Thank you, everybody, for tuning in to the predictions.
for the Canadian Grand Prix, excited to be back once more.
We really need to get alive, Tommy.
The amount of excitement we have for each Grand Prix weekend is on embarrassing levels, to be
honest with you.
Like, how can five red lights?
We're children.
Do things.
We're just like, we get so excited for just little lights on a gantry.
And we go, yay, every week without fail.
And that's what it's all about.
Cars going in circles and I will never.
Circles, Tommy.
They are much more complex shapes than that.
very complicated circles
and to follow up on that
what are your final thoughts
my final thoughts
it's been amazing the reaction
to the P1 live shows
and selling out
so many venues
and so many different countries
the world tour
that is not a world tour
make sure you get your ticket to the world tour
get your world tour
what do we call it next year
if we add more countries
and then was it a world world world
worldwide tour
the intergalactic
okay all right good well thank you
everybody.
Yeah, get your P1 live show tickets if you haven't already.
And we will see you this weekend, live on Twitch, live on YouTube for our qualifying and race watch-longs, of course.
And we will see you very soon.
Lots of love.
Bye!
