Hello everybody and welcome back to the P1 podcast with Matt and Tommy.
It's Race Week once again.
It's the start of something new.
I was about to quote some high school musical there, Tommy, which I'm sure you would have really appreciated.
Start of a triple header once again.
Some more Formula One to get into our veins.
And we're starting with the widest, most overtaking opportunity track on the calendar.
It's Imola.
Oh, no, wait.
Imola's basically monarchy.
Anyway, we won't.
We won't start this with negativity.
We're not going to say it's basically Monaco because it's not.
It's going to provide us with bangers.
We've got our predictions locked in.
Tommy, how are you feeling?
I'm feeling good.
Yeah, we'll see.
You never know.
Maybe a sprinkle of rain could jazz things up.
Who knows yet?
Just a sprinkle.
Because we're putting quite early because I'm on holiday.
Yeah.
Just a sprinkle, but no more.
No more.
Yeah.
A good amount.
So we don't have basically sat in the pit lane for four hours.
Yes, absolutely.
It's currently 1513 to you, Tommy.
Not enjoying the fact.
it's constantly you leading, but I prefer to be the hunter.
No, I don't. I prefer to be winning.
All right, there you go, good one.
I was going to somehow link that in, but you just put that.
Perfect. Right. So with the, of course, the guidelines, the rules, the P1 authorities,
it's now Tommy to go first for a good surprise.
Indeed. So my good surprise is Liam Lawson.
Oh, it's a bold one because, of course, he's not had a particularly great year.
but my logic behind this is it's not a great year so the only way is up he's not scored a he's not scored a point yet of course
and uh i think racing bulls we might see the racing balls again being back to kind of what they were
uh maybe at the start of the season i think they'll be quick again uh they of course like imler a lot
and have gone well there in the past um under their many different names that they change every single year
and uh yeah so i've gone for a leum lorson good surprise
prize. Okay, pop off, King. For my good surprise, I've gone for Oliver Berman after a poor Miami
weekend, it has to be said, poor qualifyings in particular. I just fancy a little
Berman bounce back. That's a lot of bees, a lot of alliteration there. But I think that we've
already seen it this year. He can produce points finishes, just a little bit lacking consistency
at the moment, but I have a feeling, Imler will provide me with a good surprise.
But with the way my predictions are going, I have no confidence in anything that I say.
Well, we're about to find out who's winning the Grand Prix now.
Speaking of my big flop for the Amelia Romagna Grand Prix weekend, and just to remind everyone
this is done purely on vibes and nothing else, Oscar Piastri.
It's time for my big flop to produce a four-time.
winner on the Trump.
Oscar B.S.G.
I've lost all hope with everything, to be honest with him when it comes to this flop.
Anyone I flop just does incredibly well.
Of course, Kimmy Antonelli last time out, literally got sprint pole off the back of me
flopping him.
But Oscar is on a three race win streak right now and the world is his oyster.
And so I thought I'd throw a big flop at him to make the race even easier for him this
Sunday. But look, if he has a, you know, a little P3, P4, I'm going to be, I'm going to be talking
about it because McLaren, they're the fastest car at the moment. Interesting, you've gone for that
theory, because mine is quite, or that logic, sorry, because my big flop, I've gone for George
Russell. And it's a similar opinion of, well, he's been in the top five, every single Grand Prix
and every single sprint as well. And it can't happen every race, maybe.
It could.
He can't podium every race.
But it could because I think George has actually been superb this year.
But no, I feel like maybe even a P6, you know, if you're sure as hell bet that if Oscar Piastri's P2 and George Russell's P6, we are arguing a point the whole podcast.
Yeah, come on.
I'm two points behind Tommy.
Let me cook, please.
Okay, interesting.
And I'll happily give you a point if he gets P6.
If he's finished in P5 in every single race, then yeah, that's a flop.
Let's go to pole position, Tommy.
I've gone for Max Verstappen.
I think Max Verstappen's getting a poll at Imala.
I think that he's going to have, this is a much more Max Verstappen circuit.
And of course, Max Verstappen got pole last time out in Miami.
He has the most pole positions this year, which is a crazy thing to think about.
but Imala is a much more Maxifan track as well
and I could see him going very well here
indeed more suited to that rebel
like we kind of saw in your Japan's and your Saudis
where it's much more kind of high speed
and fast flowing track.
Interesting.
My pole position.
Landon Norris.
Oh no.
I wait now actually to be vague on points last time
so.
I did.
I actually did get a point.
Yeah, it wasn't the clean sweep that I had predicted.
However, Lando was obviously incredible around Imler last year,
was chasing down Max.
It was, you know, a lap or two maybe, and he may have got him.
It was awesome to watch.
And Lando had, of course, you know, that lap one incident in Miami.
Away from that, it was a stronger weekend pace-wise from Lando.
And I'm thinking that perhaps we're building a little bit of momentum now
to start really delivering it when the time comes.
So I've gone for Lando for pole position and let's see if he can do it.
Top three.
In third position, I am locking in.
Do I?
No, I don't think I should go all eggs into a big flop category here because I know that
I've not been right the entire season.
Third place, Oscar Piastri.
I wasn't even going to put him in my top three.
Spoiler alert.
Wow.
Not literally just because of vibes.
I was like, this can't last forever.
Oscar can't be icy cool without any mistakes for the rest of time, surely.
But I've popped him in P3 because I feel like it's a safer bet.
So there you go.
P3, I have gone for Max Verstappen.
Did you just change it on the fly?
No, I didn't.
I've had this the whole time.
I was something annoying about where to put him.
I think he's going to be quick.
I do, you know, it's not just a punt of going pole position.
I do actually back him.
I'm not just trying to be different and not go for the McLaren's.
I think he will be quick around here.
But I just, I just worry that during the Grand Prix,
even though it's a tricky track to overtake,
you know, we saw in Japan, for example,
I could see it going that Max gets pole
and the McLaren's all over the back of him
and then it all comes down to pit stops
and whether Max has tapped on his,
on his pit stop
decides that it's okay to go or not
but no
I think it would be a tough one to win
but I do think it'll be quicker
interesting
what about second place
second place I have gone for
Lando Norris
so
Matt's eyes have lit up like he was going for Lando P2
maybe I don't know
in second position yeah
okay are you going to say any more
you're going to no no no I mean
do I need to explain why I think
the McLaren will be second.
Probably not.
In second place, I have gone for,
and obviously I have to announce
if I've gone for the same one,
and then I have to change it on the fly.
Max Verstappen,
and it was always Max Verstappen.
I've gone for second place,
so I have not changed it on the fly.
I believe, similarly to you,
I think he genuinely will be a lot quick around here.
Imala is such a, I don't know,
is it weird, like,
does it make sense to you, Tommy,
when I say this is like a proper driver's circuit?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
It's a
Suzuki.
It's a Suzuki
through just,
just
ragging the car.
I don't know.
It's a max track
as well.
It's very Suzuki like
isn't it?
Exactly.
And I think obviously
with the cooler conditions
that will be in Imala
that will
maybe the McLaren
advantage will
not be as big
because of,
you know,
they're so good on their tires
especially in the hotter
conditions.
So yeah,
I think Max Vastapp
and P2.
In first position,
I am locking in
Lando Norris
because I am going to get a clean sweep
and I might have to do it for the rest of the season
until I get a poll and race win for him
I still don't think I've got a race win prediction for him
correct ever
but this is the time to change that
similarly to what I said to him
said about him for pole position
I think that it is only a matter of time
until Lando puts the pieces together
and has an excellent weekend
and I'm going to be that
Okay, and P1, no surprise I have gone for Oscar Pastery.
Four on the trot, Tommy.
Four on the trot, but I haven't gone for Oscar Pastery in a while, I don't believe, for P1.
In fact, the last time I went for Oscar P1, I think, was the Australian Grand Prix.
Okay.
And we know what happened there.
So who knows what will happen.
But yeah, you wouldn't bet against Oscar, you know, I think it was a toss-up between the McLaren's.
showed their pace in Miami.
Don't need to explain, you know, why we've put,
or why I've put McLaren 1-2 and you've gone for 1-3.
And, yeah, Oscar Piastri, again,
I'm actually quite proud of us because we've not had a single agreement
where we've had to change.
That's basically us in 2025, mate.
I know, we had the Colopinto-Do and disagreement,
and now we've got the old disagreement again over the predictions.
Who are we indeed?
Okay, let's head.
to one crazy prediction.
My crazy prediction is
pole position does not win
the race.
And on a track like Imala,
is it crazy?
Yes, it's Imala.
Right, can we have some stats to back that up, please?
Do you have any stats?
Pole position has won every single
Grand Prix this year,
apart from the last one, I believe.
Wow, he said that in his chest.
I am pretty confident that is the case.
No, sorry, and Saudi, because of course, because Oscar started P2.
But I need to look into Imler, actually.
Let me look at Amelia Remindy Grand Prix and who has won.
I believe it was Max the last few times.
So let me just check to say if this is as crazy as I think,
because it could be one of those weird ones like, you know where Monaco, where they go,
oh, it's not actually the Polciter that wins all the time.
And in Miami, the Pulsitor's never won, considering we speak about Miami being a reasonably boring race.
So the Pulsiter won in 2024. The Pulsitor won in 2022. The Pulsiter did not win in 2021.
So they've won the last two there.
You're like, that's enough stats for me. Locked in. Okay. All right. So you're basically going for your Max Pohl theory and then Oscar wins.
Exactly. Yeah, yeah.
Fair enough. Okay.
my one crazy prediction
Fernando Alonzo scores points
oh please
it's gonna happen
little P10
I don't think it will
but I don't think so
I nearly put him as my biggest flop
that's how bad I think
Aston are going to be around here
but we'll see
well it's funny because my one crazy prediction
was going to be something
about Franco Colopinto's qualifying
and then I realise
we're doing a bonus prediction
for where he qualifies
and the two didn't match up
so it was like
which one do I want
to spread the eggs
yeah I'm not
I just want a clean sweep
like the whole predictions.
Yeah, yeah.
Get back on track.
So,
dominant victory.
Yeah,
so Alonso score points
because I might do that one
actually for the rest of the season
because it's eventually going to come in.
So there you go.
Well,
hopefully if Alonzo scores it once the whole year,
that'll be wild.
Don't even put that in the atmosphere.
I need to check in on Tommy if that's the case.
It's family top three time.
The Gallagas,
they are so far behind right now.
And today I am drafting in someone
with some serious will knowledge.
Okay.
Technically not a Gallagher, but hopefully one day will be.
It's my girlfriend, Ellie.
And I'm going to ring her right now.
I know she's panicking like no tomorrow, because I dropped this on her two minutes ago.
And she said, like, now, now, now.
Yes, now, indeed.
Here we go.
Will she pick up?
Here we go.
Hello, Elle.
How are you?
I'm okay.
How are you?
I'm great.
And I'm hopefully going to be a lot better when it's 5'4 to the Bellingham's after this weekend.
What is? Who is? What have you gone for for third place?
Oh my God. I'm going to go for Lando Norris.
Okay. Lando third, second place.
I'm going to go for Piastri in second.
Oh my God, my cloud's not winning. Okay, all right.
Okay. Do you like seeing me pain? Pain, pained.
Anyway, first position, please.
I'm going to go with Max Verstappen.
He's won a lot around it.
So I'm hoping it will continue.
I'm hoping it will continue as well now after you predicting that.
It's completely against what my prediction's gone.
So I went for, I'll tell you later actually.
But thank you so much.
And fingers crossed, you get some points.
Hope so, hope so.
Bye.
Well, there we go.
I'm so in the mud. I'm so in the mud.
It's crazy.
Well, I might be more in the mud because,
as I mentioned last week
you said Grace was going to do it
we need some Michael Massey here
because I am 5'1 ahead
so I have indeed
got my three-year-old daughter Grace
to do predictions
so I'm going to play some audio
right now and I'll show the video
and we'll overlay it
on the video version
before you do that
Ellie has just messaged me to say
changed my mind as I was saying them
lull
respect
yeah got a love
Okay, so here we go.
So basically I held a picture of the entire grid up for her
and told her to point to which one.
So here we go.
Grace's predictions for the Amelia Romagna Grand Prix.
Okay, and I need you to point to a driver.
Who's going to be third at the Amelia Romagna Grand Prix?
Lance Stroll.
Interesting.
P2, who's going to finish second?
Jack.
Do it.
Okay.
And who's going to win the Amelia Romagna Grand Prix?
Pierre Gasly.
That is...
I could not believe it.
I might not be scoring points, particularly as one of them isn't even racing.
If you went for stroll, someone who's just been fired, and Pierre Ghazly to win.
Oh, Grace, thank you so much.
Imagine if it just stays the same now, isn't it?
and he gets non-right.
Yeah, well, that is very likely.
Can you imagine the Stroll podium?
Just out of nowhere.
Grace, if Strull gets a podium,
Grace is just going to do predictions from now and for me.
So obviously, Duhin is now Colapinto.
So Colapinto is her second place.
Yeah, okay, yeah, we'll allow her.
I appreciate that. Thank you.
You did say it.
You said that she was going to pick that, and she did.
I know her well.
Some good dad points.
Amazing stuff.
Let's head to our Patreon prediction.
So this is where you can, if you are a P1 Patreon member, where you get access to our Discord, you get access to add free listening and lots more, then you can submit your prediction each week and we pick one to be part of our tally.
So you can score points for us.
My Patreon prediction comes in from the user 12.
Top three starting finishes top three in the same order.
So that is against what Tommy believes.
The opposite of mine.
And I'm happy about that.
Okay.
Interesting.
I can see why you'd pick that one, of course.
My patron prediction, I have gone with retired Ted.
Liam Lawson makes Q3.
No again, you're linking.
I'm really back in V-Carb, racing balls, whatever you want to call him.
Good performance this weekend.
And Liam, of course, hasn't scored points yet, and I'm back in Lawson big time this weekend.
I think he's going to have a really good race.
Okay, dokey.
Right, as I mentioned, we have a bonus prediction this week
because Colapinto is on the grid
of where does he qualify?
One point for being the closest, two for being bang on.
Tommy, where do you think Franco Colopinto is going to qualify?
With no disrespect to Colapinto,
and it's more about the machinery he's in,
I have gone for 18th place.
So I would like to clarify that I also have no disrespect to Colapinto
because I've said 20th.
Yeah.
It's not even slander at, you know, at the end of the day,
literally Gazley was 18th in the last race and he's jumping into the car.
And doing it was in Q2 and then lost his seat.
So that's just helping things for you.
But we won't get into that one again.
We won't have those can of worms.
But yes, it is no disrespect at all to Colopinto.
It's just the fact that he hasn't tested the car.
He's literally just jumping in into a car that is pretty mid.
And I think you have to fully expect for him to be knocked out in Q1.
And I think, yeah, 20th, potentially, could even be locked in.
And I'm getting two points for bang on.
Please, call a Pinto.
I don't want you to have a poor, like, qualifying.
You can race well.
You can race well, score a point.
But 20th position, please, for two points in the predictions.
Thank you.
Okay, then we go into family top three.
That's fine.
And that is it.
Thank you, everybody, for tuning in to the predictions for the Amelia Romani Grand Prix.
It is so funny.
My girlfriend is still messaging me saying,
want me to redo it?
I was going to put Charle in P3,
but thought Ferrari have been real S
and surely Oscar's not going to win all the races
and now, yeah, she's proper panicking, bless her.
But I don't mind those predictions.
You know, Vastapp and win.
Did you tell her that she's up against someone that's predicted
a driver that's not even racing?
I haven't told her that Grace went for two al-Apeas.
I think she might get more points than Grace,
but also you never know.
It could be the same, which that might be worse.
You imagine, yeah, I scored the same amount of points
as a three-year-old that predicted.
Anyway, we will reflect on that, of course, in our main race review podcast.
Tommy, what are your final thoughts?
Final thoughts?
I'm hoping for Grace's sake that we see a little, like a surprise Gazley P1 in practice or something.
So everyone's alive.
Yeah, dreams alive, everyone on the hype train.
And we realize that Grace actually is the wheel guru.
Ghazly has started like fourth around here, hasn't he?
Back in the Toroso or whatever, Alpha Tauri days.
Or it's a wet race in Strzre does.
actually get third and we go on my word.
There is hope.
That would be one of the biggest social clips of all time if your daughter has predicted.
If she gets any right.
Absolutely.
Right.
Thank you everybody.
We'll see you soon.
Lots of love to take care.
Bye.
Goodbye.
My chore is to.
Get your family to predict the top three.
Yeah.
Play a little game together.
If you have a child, ask them what their top three is.
And let us know on social.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, send it on social what your child went for,
whether that's a little video of them pointing or whatever.
Just, yeah, send it in.
That'll be quite wholesome.
Bye.
Bye.
Tommy's so sexy.
I'm not going to be here Friday as well.
Bye.
Oh, yeah, Alex Jakes is.
P1 and Matt and Jakes.
P1 is a Stack production and part of the Acast creator network.
