Hello everybody and welcome back to the P1 podcast with Matt and Tommy.
And I'm feeling good, Tommy.
I need to address the elephant in the room is the fact that I am kitted out head to toe in my London Marathon finisher outfit.
Because, I mean, look at this.
I have won a gold medal, Tommy.
Like, this is weighty.
We have to start the predictions by saying that we raised over 15,000 pounds for the Great Ormond Street Hospital charity.
And I nearly died 12,000.
thousand times during the London Marathon. So you're doing it next year? No. And also, unlike the
F1 sprint, the medal is not signed by the FIA president. So you've got the better gold medal there.
I would have binned it had that been the case, Tommy. But no, this is a phenomenal achievement.
It was a hot day. It was tough. And I think I'm already trying to line up doing it next year because
my competitive brain didn't like the fact I ran in four and a half hours.
I knew you'd be like that.
Yeah.
I know you too well that even though it was in insane heat and it's your first ever marathon,
and we had so many messages going like, that's a really good time for your first marathon.
And I know as well how much you do not like hot days.
And it's obviously even worse when you're running.
I'm hot in 12 degrees, Tommy, let alone 22 or whatever was.
So the fact that you did that, yeah.
I know how your competitive spirit, I would not agree.
But jokes aside, I will also say absolutely fair play to you and very proud of you.
Thank you very much, mate.
And thank you to some of you as well that were actually out there cheering.
There were some random F1 phrases that were thrown at me, which just completely threw me off guard.
I was like, do it for shawl, someone said to me as I was running past.
Anyway, before we dive into the predictions, we've got a
An update from the predictions sporting regulations coming into the Miami Grand Prix.
There's been an official announcement you may well have seen on social media.
So I'm just going to read it out to you now.
It's quite important actually for the championship moving forward.
It's 1311 to Tommy.
And the new rules could, it's basically a regulation change.
It is.
And we'll talk about whether we agree with it or not afterwards.
But Article 1, general principles, says 1.1, these regulations are established to govern the conduct of the P1
prediction segment with the objective of maintaining.
retaining variation and fairness in selections made by participating podcasters.
So of course, you know, there was a lot of discussion, wasn't there around who should go first?
Should people have to change?
Well, Article 2 goes in, order of selection.
2.1, the sequence of prediction shall alternate on a weekly basis between the designated
podcasters referred to hereafter as podcast A and podcaster B.
I mean, goodness gracious me, this is like lawyer speak.
2.2.
For the inaugural prediction of each week, podcaster A shall make their selectors.
First, the roles of Podcaster A and Podcaster B shall be reversed on the following week and continue to alternate thereafter.
So, Tommy will start the next Grand Prix alternating.
Article 3.3, uniqueness of predictions, 3.1, once Podcaster A has officially submitted and confirmed their prediction, said predictions shall be deemed locked.
Podcaster B shall not be permitted to select the same driver or team as Podcaster A for their own prediction.
3.3, it goes into say, in the event that Podcaster B had independently intended to say,
select the same driver or team, they must explicitly acknowledge the duplication prior to submitting
an alternative unique selection. And in Article 4, Compliance 4.1, any breach of the aforementioned
articles may result in the invalidation of the second prediction and or further measures as
determined by the P1 governance authority. So in a nutshell, we're not allowed to predict the same
predictions and we alternate each week.
Basically, yeah. Too long we didn't read. Yeah, the FAA document, classic FAA.
a document. Well, thanks everybody for tuning in to this 20 minute podcast segment. That was it.
That's, it's just an update on the regulations. Let's get into a good surprise.
My Good Surprise and winning a gold medal.
Before we started recording, Matt was like, how many times are I going to mention it?
I think you've ejected my board prediction will be, can I not mention it 15 times.
Yeah, it was. My good surprise is Lando Norris.
Yeah, he's bouncing back.
He's silencing the critics.
And he's going to have a good weekend.
I firmly believe if he just sorts out, it's qualifying,
which is something he, what did have an upper hand on Oscar Piastri last year,
he will do really well.
So I think he will be the good surprise this week.
And Landon Norris is locked in.
Interesting.
the new regulations might hit on this one based on your good surprise later down the line of course
but different my good surprise I've gone for Kimmy Antonelli so he's had a very good start to the season
but so a good surprise it's interesting that we've gone for two drivers that have you know
scored good results so we kind of need them to
overachieve for this one.
But I've gone for Kimi Antonelli
because I think
Mercedes is going to be quick here
and he'll continue his
good form.
Won't have the struggles of
maybe like tire wear and things like that.
And yeah, maybe a
cheeky little podium
in the sprint or something which should be
or the main race which would be his best
ever result. All right, let's go to
a big flop and those will not get
a gold medal.
Tommy?
What's your big flop?
We've not even got to the literal, like,
winner and stuff where the medal church works.
In the sprint, they literally get medals,
and I've already done it beforehand.
Incredible.
I'm going to be insufferable this week.
I respect it.
I'd be the same if I'd done what you did.
Big flop, I have gone for a team.
We're back to the old Tommy team,
and it is Red Bull.
Red Bull are going to have an absolute stinker
after them looking pretty good.
I don't think they'll be suited around here at all
I don't think the conditions
I don't think the track suits them
and I think we'll maybe see more
of what we saw in Bahrain
as opposed to what we saw in Japan
and Saudi that car obviously
is very unpredictable
and yeah we'll see
I can't see Red Bull doing well this weekend
okay let me lock in my big flop
and it's not a team so I don't need to change
And the reason why I laughed earlier
It's Kimmy Antonelli
Oh goodness me
Oh wait actually
No I take it
Because your flops have been terrible
No but that's because I've gone for the big dogs
Every single time I'm pretty sure
Bar maybe one
You know I've gone for a Max
I've gone for a Lewis
I've gone for a shawl
Like I'm not saying Kimmy isn't a big dog
One day he might be a big dog
He's not a big dog right now
He's a rookie
Look no reason other than vibes
I just need to get my big flop back on track
It's been horrendous so far
It's literally not been a flop
So my flop has been a flop.
So there you go.
That's why I've gone for Kimmy Antonelli.
No reason other than vibes.
Miami.
Could be a mistake.
Let's go to Sprint pole.
My sprint poll is Lando Norris.
Yep.
Locked in.
Pop that in the locker.
Pin code deleted.
Tommy doesn't know what it is.
I've gone for Lando.
Okay.
Sprint poll.
I have gone for George Russell.
A little bit different
Okay, King
I see you
Yeah
I'm
You know McLaren
We kind of
Yes they have
You know
Been on poll
More than a few times
This season
But it has been very close
And I don't think
They have a huge advantage
I do think
They'll be
Very good around here
But I think
In the sprint
We'll see something special
From George Russell
So I've gone for Russell
Oh, okay, we head to the sprint winner, Tom Bellingham.
So sprint winner, I have gone for George Russell, a cheeky little lights to flag, as we see a lot this season.
And yeah, I've gone for George Russell feeling like something a little bit different on a sprint weekend.
I do think McLaren will still be really good.
I do wonder if there'll be more opportunities in the sprint like we saw with,
like Lewis Hamilton, for example, where you get it right in a close qualifying session.
And, you know, if key, like, it's all the kind of, so far, sadly, and I hope it's not the case.
It's very much like a dirty air championship and all about getting that fresh air.
So, yeah, that's why I've gone for my poll sitter to also win.
Yeah, that's fair enough.
My sprint winner, Landon Norris.
look, I actually don't recall the last time where I predicted Lando Norris to do well, he has done well.
So I thought, hey, it's a sprint weekend.
If I just litter almost all of my predictions with Lando Norris, surely one of them will come in.
That's my thinking.
It might not happen.
But look, similar thinking to you, Tommy, whoever is on poll as long as they lead into term one.
God, it sounds like we're about to watch Monaco.
It's not, it's Miami.
But Miami is, as we, as we've, as we've got.
into the circuit, haven't we spoken about just how many circuits promote overtaking? This one
hasn't, yeah, hasn't necessarily been the best, but wasn't the sprint last time all right.
I feel like the sprint around Miami was decent. We had like K-Mag antics, we had all sorts of stuff,
didn't we? We did. The main race was shocking. That's what I also had K-Mag antics.
Yeah, K-Mando won, which was a big surprise at the time, wasn't it? Of course.
True. Yeah, of course. I think it was more, you know,
there wasn't overtaking, but it was that surprise of having the new winner and Woody Hold on.
Yeah, it was the excitement of that rather than the actual on-track action.
It was better than we kind of expected last year, so fingers crossed.
Okay, it's raised the bar slightly.
So yeah, I've gone for Landon Norris, sprint winner.
Pole position.
Lando Norris.
Lando's getting the cleanest of sweeps.
Okay.
He's clean sweeping the whole lot.
He's grabbed his broom and he's going to pick up.
the points. He's going to get eight for the sprint. Who knows if he'll get 25 for the main race,
but kind of, anyway, yeah, Landon Norris, pole position. He needs a weekend like this.
He does. What confidence to come to a track where he was obviously quick anyway last year,
but he had a little bit of good fortune with the safety car, but won brilliantly. So,
what better place to get a bit of momentum? So as are new regulations, I have to declare the tide
also gone for Lando Norris so I will now be changing it to Oscar Piestri who saw it coming. You don't think George. You know, you've put George on sprint pole. Yeah, but you've thought not for the main. Not for the main one. I can see it being so close in qualifying again. I wouldn't be surprised if I know you've gone for the Lando in both. Wouldn't be surprised again if we see it different between the two sessions because I know we say that the
sprint, there's not enough variables and it's maybe a bit of a spoiler, but I think the fact that
it's just, it's just been so close this year. I think the, what are we like, four of the five
races have been separated by like 0.0.0 something. Incredibly close in qualifying. So, yeah, I will
change it to Oscar Piastri and there we go. We now head to third position for the main race.
I have gone for George Russell.
Insert shocked face here.
Indeed.
Yes, it's maybe not the most interesting of predictions, but George, although too fair last time out, had his worst race, which was still a great P5, but they maybe fell away a bit more than we thought, didn't they, and they weren't as good.
but I think there'll be a lot better around here
so I've gone for a George Russell P3
My third place
Charlotte Clare
Give me a little third
Just a little cheeky third
Look he was
Quick in Saudi
He was
Not to say that Miami will be any such
The similarities due to a very different track
But
I you're only as good as your last race
According to my brain
Especially when Charles does well
so that means he's going to do well again.
He's going to finish third.
But the Ferrari aren't that far off.
They were great in the sprint at China.
Don't forget.
They managed to get up to speed very quickly.
And perhaps not having too much time to think about things,
they don't mess up.
So yeah, they'll play Characlerc.
Do you feel about that?
Anything?
I, well, Ferrari, Ferrari, have been better, haven't they?
I think now.
But I don't know.
I feel like they're going to be
better than Red Bull, hence my prediction.
Probably third best.
Watch Max finish like second in this race and Tommy's sadness for Red Bull will disappear very
quickly. You are very much the same mentality as me now as a Ferrari fan.
I'm seeing it come through and it is really quite lovely to watch.
Hope lost, hope lost.
Just constantly up and down.
I am basically you now where I go from.
Yep, he's winning the whole thing.
You can't count him out to within one race going, it's over.
They've given up before it's even begun.
Second position.
I am locking in Oscar Piastri.
So Oscar Piastri is going to finish second.
And Tommy's going to have to change his prediction by the looks of things,
which means it then saves potentially my first place.
I have cooked here phenomenally well unless he's thought of something crazy here.
So second place, I've gone for Oscar Piastri.
I'm going to
I can't believe this is happening already
I'm actually going to
tactically use this now
and go for P2
Kimmy Antonelli
because I get the next prediction in P1
so I'll go to my god
this has opened a whole new
a whole new strategy game
to this predictions now
and I love that
that is disgusting
that I love that second place to get a first
yeah you know my
it could backfire
And I've used my hopium for third place.
You're disgusting.
Honestly, that is crazy from you.
Okay, so you've gone for Kimmy Antoni's second place.
Not even George, Kimmy.
All right.
Let's hear what you're...
I've already gone for Russell, haven't I, in P3?
Of course.
Sorry, yeah.
So Kimmy's beating George.
All right, here we go.
Then first position, Tommy.
I've gone for Lando Norris,
and I'm incredibly excited to see who you're now going to go for P1.
My first position, Max Verstappen.
Thank you very much.
We'll lock that one.
And to be honest, I don't even feel that bad about it
because we're coming into like Red Bull
Apparently is going to be completely finished around Miami
It's going to be hot temperatures
But there's also a 40% chance of rain
That comes in, I am cooking
Yeah, indeed, yeah
However, my good surprise,
I'm either getting good surprise right
Or, well, or I'm getting something within my top three correct
Because I can't have a good surprise
And then Lando not finished in the top three
So yeah, look, it's causing all kinds of chaos
else with this predictions.
I like it.
I quite like it.
It's good.
It adds a new element.
And then obviously next week it would change again.
So you can potentially do it.
I feel like it's going to get very heated.
Well, we get down to the final, you know, the final match.
If it ends up, you know, the final race.
The final match.
Sorry, the final race.
The matchup is what I meant.
You just called a racer match.
Let's see that medal.
Let's see that medal.
Okay, so I ran the London Marathon
Sorry, what were you saying?
This podcast has gone so off the rails
I love it. That's good.
When we get down to the final
I was genuinely going to say match up.
Yeah, but you said match and you ruined everything
because you went to the needs game.
The final race.
If it's neck and neck, you know, there's
potential for some dirty tactics here.
This could be like a centiprost, like,
dive up the inside sabotage with the predictions.
I think it's going to be exciting.
We have opened a can of worms with this one,
but hopefully you're looking forward to it
for everyone watching and listening.
Let's go to our one crazy prediction.
All right, I've cooked with this one.
I've really cooked with this.
This is what I said to you before we even start recording
that you might be a bit annoyed.
My one crazy prediction is McLaren not on poll.
Yeah, come on.
So it means, right?
Unless, wait a note.
No, I've not thought this through
because if Oski did the poll,
I don't get points for either of them.
So I ran the London Marathon on Sunday and I'm quite tired.
Yeah.
But also, like, how is that a crazy?
Why is it not crazy?
How many polls have they got?
They've had a lot.
So Max is, yeah, Max was on pole at Saudi.
He's the only one in a main race and then Hamilton did a sprint.
So four or five.
Yeah, okay, four or five.
Okay, that's crazy.
Thank you very much.
What's yours?
My one crazy prediction.
And I'm really kind of going ham on this kind of narrative this weekend.
Vestappen finishes seventh or lower in the race.
Goodness gracious, you are fully depressed as a Red Bull fan, aren't you right now?
That has not happened since I worked this out.
It's not happened since the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix is the last time he finished seventh or lower in a race.
Really?
That long.
Yeah, I mean he never finishes that low.
Exactly.
It's usually DNF or.
Yes, DNF or top five, whatever.
Wow. Okay.
Well, he's going to finish first, mate, because that's my prediction.
So there you go.
And what about our one Patreon prediction if you're new to the prediction series this season?
We are additionally adding a Patreon prediction which you can put in the Discord if you join our P1 Patreon.
And we select one to be part of our points tally.
Tommy, what have you gone for?
I have gone for Toby Lorone's prediction, which is a rookie.
podiums in either the sprint or race and I wonder who that could be and why I've chosen that one.
You really have just, you're kind of like beautifully sinking things up right now Tommy.
Indeed.
You're either cooking something beautiful and tasting.
I'm feeling more confident now you've gone for him biggest flop that he might have a good weekend.
How has it turned like this?
And you're getting confidence from my big flops.
I know.
Still such a strange sentence.
Okay.
So my Patreon prediction is from the username just 12.
No teams outside the top four teams
score points in the sprint.
So it'll be the top four teams
locking in one to eight.
There you go.
So we'll just have to hope,
well, I mean, if that happens.
And it probably will be right.
Very boring race.
You're kind of relying on Yuki, I guess,
probably from that one.
Or Kimmy, if he's flopping.
Or Kimmy, yeah.
So, but it's possible,
but not definitely locked in for sure.
Okay, it is family top three time.
The Bellingham's are running away.
with it.
4-1.
Is that correct?
I'm correct.
I'm correct.
I'm saying, I was hoping maybe it was less.
It's not.
It's definitely 4-1.
Tommy,
have you got on the phone this week?
I am going to give my wife a call.
I tried every other family member.
And I was kind of hoping that I could get my sister on the call because I don't think
she could name three Formula One drivers and that would really help the closeness.
Why haven't you put the time and effort into securing this?
Because I need it, Tommy.
We need to Michael Massey this one just as hard as directly.
We'll see.
We'll see how it goes next week.
But for now, here we go.
I'll give him a wife a call, my speaker.
It'd be awkward if she doesn't pick up.
It'd be very awkward.
You're in the same house.
She's probably hoping.
Oh, why, she's not answering.
That's crazy.
Well, this is awkward.
Hello.
Hello.
Hello.
You answered.
Oh, yeah, I did.
Katie is so thrilled to be on this segment.
She loves being on a podcast.
Okay, can we get your top three, please, wife?
Oh, God. I thought I'd have longer.
Third.
Third position.
Oh, sorry.
Oh, spoiler a lot.
Tommy, come on.
You've been doing this for like five races now.
You have to steer them.
You've only just sprung this on me that I'm doing it.
So yeah.
Okay.
Lando third.
Lando third.
Okay.
I like the mixing out.
I don't know.
You've only just told me I'm doing this.
P2.
The chaos is great.
Oh, no.
Now I've backed myself into a corner, haven't I?
Yeah.
Matt's nodding because the Bellingham's are really far ahead.
So actually, if you could just go for like Fernando Alonzo or something, go for it.
Thank you, Sanada.
Russell.
Okay.
I think this is my prediction I did last time.
It may well be.
Okay.
Wow.
I'll take it.
I guess so.
We'll go with that.
Thanks a lot.
Love you, bye.
Love you, bye.
Your poor wife, Katie, there.
Just a deer in headlights.
She was a deer in headlights.
I told her that this was happening about three seconds ago and she's a proper overthinker bless her.
Okay, bless.
Right, here we go.
Right, let's go to my father, who does supposedly know Will.
Got very close to a three-pointer.
Oh, he did, didn't he?
Last time, but only scored one for the Gallagher is the only point so far.
Oh, yeah, of course.
Hello.
Hi there, Christopher Gallagher, my father, dad, how are you?
You forgot my name then, didn't you?
Hello, everybody.
It just doesn't feel right to call you by your actual name, but you're here on the P1 podcast.
Can I please have your third position for the Miami Grand Prix, the main race? Thank you.
Right. The Gallagher's new points. So I'm going for Oscar in third place. Okay, Oscar Pastery third place.
Okay, who narrowly misses out and gets P2?
Max for Stefan. Right. We're going for Max and then a P1 for...
I am going for Lando. He's got to get some points back.
Okay, I like it.
We are of the same opinion, Dad.
Okay.
Let's score some points.
You were so close to a three-pointer last time.
You only managed one.
Thank you, Dad.
Fingers crossed.
Katie, Tommy's wife, went for third place,
Lando, second place, George Russell, first place, Oscar Piastri.
So all completely different this week.
Thanks, Dad, for coming on the podcast.
Okay.
Bye.
Bye, love you.
Bye, bye, bye.
I'm a big fan of your dad going,
we need to score points and then picking the guy
that's kind of been on amazing four.
going third place.
Yeah.
It's a bold strategy.
We'll see.
Fair play.
Right, that is it.
Thank you, everybody, for tuning in to the predictions for where are we going?
Miami.
That's, I honestly.
I can barely walk it up the stairs because do you remember I, anyway.
How come?
So I showed on video, just a little.
But thank you, everybody for tuning in, for watching.
We'll of course be live across the entirety of the weekend.
We're actually going to be live on.
a new platform as well called Race Center Live.
There'll be links all over our social media to come and check out there
where there's going to be prizes, polls, questions.
It's basically like a watch-along that we do but buffed up.
Okay, so we're really excited to bring that to you this weekend.
And also a big shout out, as I mentioned at the top of the show,
to everybody that donated, that supported,
that just were awesome in my London Marathon journey,
which, of course, just one last time.
It's so heavy and so beautiful.
It feels like I've won an Olympic gold medal.
But thank you everybody.
It truly means so much.
The charity have been utterly flawed by the support that you guys have given by donating.
And if you still want to donate, I did nearly die out there several times.
Then there will be a link in the description where you can do that.
And that is it.
Tommy, what are your final thoughts, please, sir?
I will say what I said again at the start, that it's an incredible achievement that you've done.
And obviously, we're joking about you flexing that medal.
But I totally understand because, yeah, the amount.
you've raised and also just doing what you did is quite insane because I get I get tired just
walking up the stairs and I'm like how on earth have you run that far I was actually I was actually
tracking you on the the app I would you could see how you how you're doing because you were actually
when I searched your name to find you there was also another Matt Gallagher also running so I
added you both to the map and I had a little race between the two Matt Gallagher's to
and you won by an app.
a mile so well done come on thank you very much mate and you did actually text me as well didn't you and
said i'm outside in this in this in this heat and i'm not running and i thought it was hot yeah i was there
just this is too hot and then every time i thought that i just thought of you running in the seat
and and one final uh point which i found quite funny was that i posted a little uh real before
i think the day before or two days before saying it's like a a sad reaction to the fact i'd
realise it was going to be 20 or 22 degrees for the London Marathon.
And some people, of course, you know, there's people listening all over the world.
Some are going, that's my winter, Matt.
Like, what are you talking about?
That is a dream to run in.
Not for me.
I start sweating at 12 degrees.
So there you go.
Thank you, everybody.
We'll see you and see us.
Bye.
My chore is to check out my London Marathon medal.
Go to the video and look every time.
Look at here.
Wow.
Although you can't.
This bit's only all.
audio, but yeah.
