Starting point is 00:00:05 Hello everybody and welcome back to the P1 podcast with Matt and Tommy. Oh, back to back race weeks. We are truly living the dream, aren't we, Tom Bellingham? We're so back, back again. No walls to be seen that are close to the racetrack like we've just had in Monaco. So fingers crossed, a fast, ferocious Catalonia will provide us with some action. I mean, the tracks this year have provided action. kind of most races it has to be said some controversially some obviously amazing racing as well
Starting point is 00:00:42 and some moment okay yeah and if we see a good race here my word f1's cooking now before we get into the world of predictions let's talk about some news in f1 one we've recorded a separate podcast all about the f1 engine catch-up program or the ad uo as it's called uh it's a bit of a farce so go and check out episode because we proper pop off about it. So yeah, go and have a listen to that, obviously, after predictions. Other things to mention, Alpine have an FIA hearing for their penalty to basically protest what happened in Monaco. Will it be overturned?
Starting point is 00:01:22 I think absolutely not. Personally, I think it's, you know, Alpin obviously kicking off about the fact they've lost a podium. And quite rightly, in the sense of it did seem pretty silly. I just don't see in race penalties being overturned, especially when other teams have also suffered from this. And it's only Alpine that are having this hearing. Because at the end of the day, it wasn't a software glitch.
Starting point is 00:01:52 It was the fact that it wasn't measured properly. Yeah, yeah. Which the teams can do, right? If they really wanted to, I'm sure the FA will turn around and be like, well, that's your judgment from last year. It's changed. Yeah, exactly. And that that will be the argument that they give and probably the fact that, well, it didn't happen to everyone. And it is incredibly unfortunate. We spoke about it in Drive ratings that, you know, it's not Gassley's fault. There's videos circulating that, you know, it's quite clear that he pressed the pit lane speed limit button and was plenty slowed down before going into the line. And equally, plenty slowed down before he then gets off the pit limiter to get out there as well. but as we said before it's all done on distance and things like that so i can't see it being overturned
Starting point is 00:02:41 they have overturned results in the past before um there was some confusion over a brazilian grand prix back in 2003 where they gave kimi rikinen the win accidentally then gave it to fizzykella later at the next race however i think the the issue lies here one from what you said previously but also too that there were many drivers that did serve their penalty in that race and you know i'm sure not that not that they'll have a leg to stand on but someone like george russell could argue well you know i had to serve my five second penalty then got a drive-through and all this stuff and and i'd have loved to stay out and just like hope it didn't happen for later so um yeah i i can't see it being a
Starting point is 00:03:33 overtone, unfortunately, for Gazley, because as much as I want my dad to get the full point for his amazing prediction. Yeah, I don't think it's happening. So take the half point, Dean, and be happy with it. All right, that's what I'll say. Enjoy the money. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Other thing to mention is that Frederick Vestey will be replacing championship leader Kimmy Antonelli for FP1. For FP1. I probably should have started for FP1 because a lot of you are like, what? Where's Jimmy going? Is he won the championship? Yeah, we put that third in the news. Yeah, yeah. Timmy Anthony Lee is just so far ahead. He's just having a day off.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Yeah, just have a weekend off. I mean, that's the luxury he could probably have. Go watch the World Cup or something and he's just chilling. Yeah, when he's 150 points clear, I think we'll all be calling for him to have a weekend off. So yeah, that's something to keep an eye on as well, see how Vest he does. Of course, if you're unfamiliar,
Starting point is 00:04:20 there are times throughout the season where main drivers will be replaced by younger drivers to be able to give them an opportunity in a proper Formula One weekend. And quite early, as well. So interesting that maybe there's thinking behind it because we say that every time, but these are all locked in many moons beforehand. True. Yeah, yeah. It's a good point, actually. Probably have been with driver contracts
Starting point is 00:04:44 and things like that. However, even if it's not, it's probably quite good for Kimi Antonelli, that, you know, he might have won it well by then if he continues his amazing form, but he's not going into like an Abu Dhabi, like Oscar Piastri or something and has to give up his car when he's going for the World Championship. So yeah, it's good to get it out the way while he's clear. Right, it's predictions time. 2218 to Tommy. Four point the gap still.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Not a lot of points scored in Monaco. It must have been the Apparoles. Although, to be fair, we did it on Wednesday, so what I'm talking about. But yes, it wasn't very accurate either. They were just rubbish. Yeah, yeah, we were just rubbish. I tried to blame the App Rolls, but we literally did it before we left for Monaco. It's my time to go first.
Starting point is 00:05:30 So, a good surprise, I am locking in. Nico Holkenberg. Oh, okay, interesting. It's time for Nico to score some points. The basket is well and truly open for business, and I'm going to put all of the eggs in Holcomburg's one. So Holkenberg, last year, had an absolutely sensational drive ended up P5 actually
Starting point is 00:05:59 Who got a penalty Tommy and got dropped down and lost the world chat Oh it was Max 7 Sorry I'm lashing out after one okay Wow But Holcomburg Is going to beat Charles Win record But Holkenberg
Starting point is 00:06:10 He's got to score some points at some point And it's going to be Around the Barcelona Catalonia circuit This weekend He can't be 11th every race Okay that's really interesting because for two reasons.
Starting point is 00:06:28 One, I was convinced you're going to go for George Russell. No, I genuinely wrote it down and went, I can't have every prediction. He still has to kind of win as well because, you know, you're driving the best car on the grid, even a P. Well, actually, Tommy, the Red Bull has the best edge of him, so don't forget. Okay, so another reason it's funny is because my good surprise is Gabriel Bortoletto. I think Audi are going to be strong here. they back in the days where they had their wonderful name that really rolled off the tongue
Starting point is 00:07:00 Kik Salber Alfa Mayo no I love how you can't remember it I've forgotten it It was really long wasn't it Was he even called I can't remember Kik Salber FF no it was longer than that Yeah it was it was take F1 team
Starting point is 00:07:12 Stikzabber F1 yeah that was it Yeah brilliant And yeah they They were very strong around here and look quite good and obviously Audi have been the nearly team. They love a little
Starting point is 00:07:27 P-11. Gabby got one last time out in Monaco or DNF. I will admit I nearly went for Audi but this can't be risky. One of them is not finishing race. It's just too risky because it does seem it's one or the other and we will find out if it is one or the other because we've gone for both drivers. Another one I had which was very tempting was
Starting point is 00:07:48 Arvid Limblad because a lot of people have mentioned that he won F3 and F2 feature race. It'd be a lot harder for him to win this weekend, but we've seen crazy things. We have. I mean, what a thing to say, yeah, that he won F3 and F2, yeah, those very similar cars to the current Formula 1 generation.
Starting point is 00:08:07 Well, actually, they are more like Formula 2 cars, why Kimmy Antoni is doing so well as I predicted. Oh, shut up. Okay, big flop, Tommy. Big flop. I've gone for Hass. I think something's bubbling up at Hasse. I think civil wars starting.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Ockon and Bearman were kind of shouting at each other in practice. We also saw a little bit of contact at the hairpin. I do think that their form has fallen off as well and also the fact that maybe it's not fully like harmony in that team. So I've gone for Hasse hoping for double points there. Not for them but for you. But for me, yeah, exactly. Nah, Berman's dropping a little P10 just to stop all of that nonsense.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Interesting that you've gone for a team, because I've also gone for a team. Ferrari. Oh, okay. Yeah, look, we've, we're going to a track that I just don't think is going to suit Ferrari at all. I think that Mercedes, I think Max Verstappen, maybe even Hadjar, and I think McLaren are all going to be quicker than them. I really do. So from a Hamilton P2 in Monaco and a Charles LeClaire,
Starting point is 00:09:30 what could have been, I just think we're going to be very poor around here. So that's my thinking. I mean, there's really no slow speed corners to note, apart from maybe one or two around here. No more chicane, of course. No more chicane. Bring that back. Always made for great racing.
Starting point is 00:09:47 So I've gone for Ferrari because, yeah, look, I mean, maybe I'm still depressed after, after Charlotte Clare. And he'll be trying new breaks. So we're so cooked. Like, I don't even know how that's going to, how that's going to unfold. But probably not great. Poll position. My poll position for the circuit Barcelona, sorry, Barcelona-Catoluna Grand Prix, I've already forgotten, is Kimi Antonelli. I mean look this is
Starting point is 00:10:20 2023 Maxis happened all over again do I need to go into reasons why I think this track as much as it was a bit of a stinker for him last year I think he ended the race with reliability issues also another thing that I saw pop up that I thought I've mentioned to you Tommy that
Starting point is 00:10:36 of course Antonelli played his role didn't he I say this with a slight tongue and chin I know exactly what you're going to say yeah well I'm going to tell everybody what I'm going to say is the fact that Anthony was the one to actually cause the safety car which caused the Max Verstappen meltdown into the side of George Russell. So Antonelli played a lot of factors.
Starting point is 00:10:54 Of course, you know, completely not his fault. But he was a big old factor for Max Verstappen last year. And things keep cropping up about it. I know. Yeah, I did get reminded of that. You also saw, yeah, this was the kind of start of Antonelli's really poor run, wasn't it? However, pole position, I had gone for Kimmy Antonelli. I don't buy either that he's now going to start being rubbish just because titanium dioxide.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Is this the first time, Dad, Titan. No, it was in Monaco anyway, so it was fine in European season slop. At the end of the day, he's having an amazing time. He's so confident in that car. And this is a track where you've just got to be confident in the car. And actually, it's a very car heavy circuit in terms of just the car. the fact that it's like high-speed corners, we normally see... A car heavy circuit.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Sorry, what does that? A car, like, it's more about car than driver, is what I'm saying. When, you normally see the best car win all the time, is what I'm saying, around Barcelona. It is a track where... We're saying, mainly in Formula One, right? No, but I think it's even more extreme. Like, look at, like, when McLaren were doing so well, last year, they put it on poll, like, by miles, and we've seen that kind of in years gone by, that...
Starting point is 00:12:16 your advantage is even more strength than a track like this. So I think Mercedes are going to be rapid, so no surprise that I will now change it to George Russell. Of course. Still has a chance. His Monaco struggles in the race, of course, were all because of his qualifying.
Starting point is 00:12:34 But let's not forget last time out in, before that in Canada, he got two pole positions. So he can turn it around, and there's an opportunity for him there. There will be a moment he turns it around. It's just when, but I didn't want to go for it. I don't want to give you a Kimmy Antoninley pole position.
Starting point is 00:12:50 It's just not, how are we here where this is now like almost a done deal where we won't be able to go for Mercedes drivers soon, or at least Kimi Antonelli? Let's go for our top three then, starting with third position. P3, I'm going to go for Lando Norris. Hopefully his car works, and Matt's now changing his prediction. I think if his car doesn't lose the battery, get duct taped up, a wheel for off his rear wing fall off, what else can happen to him, everything. Lando will be strong here. The McLaren looks good, did in Canada before they decided to put intermediates on a dry track.
Starting point is 00:13:28 And yeah, I think McLaren will be very good around here. So I'm going to go for P3, Lando Norris. Okay, good. Well, that is my prediction out the window, because I did go for P3 Lando Norris, as you could tell by my facial expressions if you're watching on YouTube. I'm going to change that now to Max Vastappen. I think that is, I'm very confident with that as a backup option that this could definitely happen. Rebel have had their moments
Starting point is 00:13:55 in the more recent races. And this is Max Vastappen. Yes, he had an absolute disaster last year, but that was not due to pace. That was due to other external factors that we won't go into, even though I've touched upon it. You mentioned it like six times in this podcast.
Starting point is 00:14:10 Appreciate it, thanks. Okay, sorry. Sorry, it's one of the only things where I can actually get to you with. Yeah, fair. Whereas you just literally pummel me every week. That's crazy. Wow.
Starting point is 00:14:18 That's a sentence. And I enjoy it. So, Max Verstappen, P3, is what I'm going for. All right? So I'm going to lock that in. I was going to make a really bad joke there. I mean, I already did. I'll say it.
Starting point is 00:14:30 Oh, God. What happens on the super yacht stays on the super yacht. Well, it clearly doesn't because you've just said it. Oh, you bet it's going in like it did on the super yacht. Oh, God. Honestly, I want that. I do actually want that to go in. So it's fun. It can go in. I don't care. It's our channel. It gives a shit.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Oh, that's the most unhinged. I love it. I think that will throw so many people. I want it. I want it in. I want it in. Right, let's lock back in and go to second position where I am going to lock in. Oh, no, here come the tactics. Hmm. Hmm. What can I do here?
Starting point is 00:15:49 This is the thing. Like, yeah, I'm going to go for second place, George Russell. I do genuinely believe that the advantage of Mercedes will be large. So I'm going to have to. Oh. No. No. Incorrect.
Starting point is 00:16:13 I retract that. Second place, I'm going to go for Kimmy Antonelli. I am. I am. I'm going to do this. Because I know for a fact that Tommy is going for Kimi Antonelli P1, and therefore I feel more confident that this could happen, where George Russell bounces back and wins. Less likely. I think Antonelli will get six on the bounce.
Starting point is 00:16:37 But yeah, let's go for a Kimmy Antonelli P2. Okay, I think you've fumbled the back here. I'm going to go for P2, George Russell. and now I get to choose P1. I know I knew that. But if I went for George Russell P2, you're going for Kimmy Antonelli P1. No, I go for Kimmy Antoni P1 anyway. Well, yeah, that's what I mean.
Starting point is 00:16:58 So if I went for George Russell P2, I couldn't put Kimmy Anznelli in my top three. So you want an Antonelli in second. If I didn't go for that, I don't have Antonelli in my top three. Okay. See, big brain thinking. This is why I'm coming back, four points behind. Okay, we'll see, we'll see. So P1, I'm going to go for...
Starting point is 00:17:18 P2. Did you say your P2? I said P2, I said George, George. Didn't we talk about it though? We just kind of said George. Sorry, yeah, P2, George. I do think he will bounce back. I think he's got an opportunity to win as well. I was tempted to go for him, but I just think Antonelli is just driving so well. It's so confident.
Starting point is 00:17:39 I think that confidence will continue on this track. please do watch the race and the watch longs, but I think this could be a track where they are absolutely miles ahead, as I say, about the fact that it really does suit when your car is good, you're very dominant around here. So, yeah, I'm going to go for George Russell P2. Okay, Tommy, P1. P1, it's Mr. Kimmy Antonelli,
Starting point is 00:18:09 who has been P1 a lot this year. almost all of them and I think he will continue that win streak I can't believe we're saying that I think it's going to happen who knows how many he could end up winning this year you know Mercedes are going to completely dominate I think it will be close with with Russell I think I hope we get a very exciting race between the two of them and yeah but I am back in Kimi Antonelli because why wouldn't you who's on amazing form it is of course a track they didn't do well at last year, but I don't, I don't buy it as completely different regulations. Kimmy is just a completely different driver now and he's driving superbly. So I'm backing him to win again.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Okay, so I'm obviously not going over Kimi Antonelli because I'm not allowed to due to the P1 predictions regulations. So I'm going to go for George Russell. Now I feel, as Tommy didn't quite understand my theory and craft here, was that I feel much more comfortable knowing that I have a Mercedes-1-2 in my locker. A one-two locked-in. having to go for a Charlotte Claire P1 right now, which I don't think is going to happen. So George Russell, first place, this is a track that as much as I am leaning towards Kimmy as well, I think George can express himself. He can make mistakes around Spain and get away with it maybe in a few places.
Starting point is 00:19:31 There is runoff to save you, although there is also gravel. Maybe forget that. But there are, you know, it's a much better place to maybe test some things with his driving style that apparently has to change. Monika, you can't be doing that. You're in the wall. So let's go for a George Russell bounce back. Why not?
Starting point is 00:19:47 Okay, we now go to P-WAT, where let's see if we get a random number that is either more than four or five because we've not had it for a while. Of course, if you're unaware, this is where Tommy is now loading a random number generator that you forgot to do before the podcast started
Starting point is 00:20:03 between 4 and 22, and we have to guess on the spot who it's going to be. Who is going to go first? So it's me. It's me first. Okay, here we go. I'm going to generate it.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Here we go. 16th. Oh, wow. Esteban, knock on. I will go for... Come on. TikTok.
Starting point is 00:20:29 TikTok. Oh, my word. Sergio Perez. Oh, a little piece of 16 for Sergio Perez. So you're seeing a... Okay, fair enough. Okay. I regret O'Con immediately.
Starting point is 00:20:38 Hasn going to be great. But, hey, ho. Especially because I flop them. Yeah. That's why I said it. I was like, ah, you know,
Starting point is 00:20:44 maybe Tommy's right. To be fair, first team that came to mind was Huss, but could be some DNFs and retirement things. Could be. All right, we will see. Let's now go to our one crazy prediction.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Tommy, over to you. Speaking of Ocon and Perez, my one crazy prediction is there's a teammate collision. So could be Mercedes. Well, I'm kind of covering two. bases here. Where does collision begin and end?
Starting point is 00:21:15 With a yeat. Okay, so it's significant yeat? Well, yeah, there's some controversy. Yeah, I'm not counting like a wheel bang on that. Okay, so we're going damage. Any kind of like visible damage? Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right. So yeah, teammate collision, of course, I think the Mercedes we could see them fighting again, particularly with how the old
Starting point is 00:21:37 boost mode works. I hope we do because that would be absolute cinema if we can have another Canada and you know I think this is a track that could produce that sort of thing right absolutely could because we've seen that it's so hard to get away from the lead and if whoever's in P2 whether it's Antonelli or Russell or anyone else if they're within a second they're going to have a lovely long or straight to have a go and yeah I'm really looking forward to this one a lot me too I can't believe we're saying that about about Barcelona I know crazy the last one my one crazy prediction
Starting point is 00:22:14 Lando Norris has no reliability issues throughout the weekend okay that's interesting because I saw a Patreon went for that one and I nearly picked the one oh did you
Starting point is 00:22:30 wow I didn't see that but I haven't okay that's good to know we haven't actually told each other what username we went for so we might have gone for the same Patreon prediction we don't obviously share any of the predictions that we're doing but we say which user user a name just so we don't have the same one. Let's now go to our Patreon prediction. Join the P1 Patreon. You get ad-free listening.
Starting point is 00:22:47 You get access to a Discord, early access to live show tickets, and lots more. And one of these things is, of course, submitting your prediction each weekend. And we will pick one, as we are doing now. So, Tommy, no, it's me. It's me to do my Patreon prediction. It's from Patrick underscore underscore. Nico Holkenberg makes it into Q3. Come on, my guy.
Starting point is 00:23:09 Okay. Come on, my guy. He's not done it the entire season. It's time. Okay, I'm now looking through the Patreon predictions because that was mine. I see you, you wrote down the, like, their nickname thing. The nickname, yeah, yeah. Because the nickname was something ridiculous like I'm a sad Max Verstappen fan or something.
Starting point is 00:23:29 So, Tommy. Let's have a look. Let's have a look indeed. We're live on the P1 podcast. Will he select a Patreon prediction in the... the next seven minutes. Let's cover my basis. Let's go for Lex Wakeman, V-Cab outscore McLaren this weekend.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Wow. So I'm basically going for the gamble that McLaren either put inters on them or the car breaks down again. One or the other. Oh, shall we do a live, let's do a live weather look. I think it's going to be very nice if I, if I, I had to guess, but let's see. I would imagine saying. Sun, sun, sun, 31 degrees, very warm.
Starting point is 00:24:19 Very warm. Yeah, it's a very warm boy. OK-dokey, that is locked in. We now go to the family top three, where I firstly want to say to your wife, who is hopefully listening and not slandering me on Instagram, that I did give your dad half a point, and that it serves her right to be saying things
Starting point is 00:24:38 and not listening to the podcast first. So, Katie, how dare you? I'll have Grace on you because Grace loves Matt Gallagher. Do you want to tell the story about Grace at nursery the other day? Okay, yeah, that is a great story for everyone to know. So I picked Grace up from nursery and her nursery worker came to the door and went, just a strange question. Who's Matt Gallagher?
Starting point is 00:25:03 And basically, Grace had been going around telling everyone, always full names you. It's really hilarious. And basically going around nursery saying, that our daddy speaks to Matt Gallagher in his office. She's getting us subscribers, even at nursery. Yeah, I know. I respect the hustle.
Starting point is 00:25:22 Thank you, Grace. Well done, Grace. Hopefully Grace gets fielded in at some point. But then whenever she is fielded in for predictions, it usually means you're about 15 points clear. So let's now call actually as well, sorry, before I get into this, I want to apologize to my lovely fiancé Ellie,
Starting point is 00:25:36 who was the one who did the predictions for Monaco, and both of us forgot. And she was not too happy. So I apologize, L, you did amazing. You scored me a point. You are brilliant. I am now going to call my dad that I am not going to forget. So I'm going to remember right now that I called my dad when we review this on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:25:55 Here we go. I told my dad one and a half hours ago that I was calling him in 20 minutes. So fingers crossed, he is still around. Hi, Dad. Thank you for waiting around. We are now here ready for your predictions. for the Circuit of Barcelona, Catalonia. Can we please start with P3?
Starting point is 00:26:21 Well, because Tommy's dead, done a cracker. No, no, no, no. Oh, yes, come on. I'm going to go for Fernando Alonso. What are you doing? Oh, my God. He's joking. He's joking.
Starting point is 00:26:36 I dropped my phone. Oh, my God. No, you've got to look in the first answer, I'm afraid. Sorry. Tommy just says you have to lock in the first answer, I'm afraid. So, I mean, sorry, Tommy. You're wrong.
Starting point is 00:26:47 Landon RSP3. Okay. All right. That's what Tommy went for as well. In P2. Oh, George. I want George to win, but I don't know if he will. I'm going to say George second.
Starting point is 00:27:06 George Russell's second place. And in first place, I wonder who you're going to go for. Kimmy Antonelli. Okay. My top three. That is literally what Tommy went for as his top three. So I hope we score no points this week. I want George to win, obviously.
Starting point is 00:27:24 Yep, you've made that very abundantly clear that you are a George Russell fan. Yeah, that's, well, yeah. Surely you want Hamilton to win. He's the closest challenger these days. I was thinking about him in third, and they got updates this weekend, and they, so. They have. Ferrari. Oh, so why didn't you go for him?
Starting point is 00:27:40 All right, it's fine. I think they're going to be terrible, so don't worry. Okay, thanks, Dad. Appreciate it. Love you. Bye. Speak you later. Love you.
Starting point is 00:27:48 Fernando Alonzo P3. Don't even. I, Jenny, thought that was legit then. I thought he was just trying to, like, one at my dad, and see if you could get a generational one, and then we could do that. Like that was the same. Everyone retires. That was the same as literally just naming a Formula 2 driver
Starting point is 00:28:01 and just being like they're going to be third in the Formula 1 race. That is how likely Fernando Lonzo on the podium is going to be. Imagine it happens now. Okay, Tommy, over to you. Okay, so annoyingly, I've got no one to do it apart from potentially my dad. So I recorded a video from Katie because unfortunately she's had to go pick Grace up from nursery because she's not very well.
Starting point is 00:28:22 I think that's Nullin Void. It's not alive. Nullin Void. No point. Wow, you're telling Grace. Call you. I'm calling her Lundy. So I did get Katie to record her predictions.
Starting point is 00:28:35 So I'm just going to play them out, which I'm sure she'll be happy about. Okay. First of the Barcelona-Catilini Grand Prix, please. Okay, third, Max. Okay, Max was seven. Mine. Second, George. And P-1.
Starting point is 00:28:55 Kimmy. What a shocker, Mercedes-12, thanks. But your prediction. Really glad that there's only one position that is different for our family predictions. We're going to have to bring in some rules. We might have a Mercedes rule if they dominate very clearly this weekend. That is prediction, stunned and dusted.
Starting point is 00:29:41 Thank you absolutely everybody for joining us here today. Thank you to those of you that said hello to us in Monaco as well. It was lovely to see some of you and more than we expected, I think, around Monaco. But it was lovely to chat to some of you. Tommy, final thoughts? Final thoughts? So hope for a big one for some good reactions. And at least, Tommy, we can cry on our offices and not on a super yacht. I know. But everyone felt so sorry for us. They really did. They really did.
Starting point is 00:30:33 See you seen, everybody. Lots love. Take care. Bye. Goodbye. B1 is a Stack production and part of the Acast's creator network.
