Hello everybody and welcome back to the B1 podcast with Matt and Tommy. We're back. It's Italian Grand Prix weekend. Oh, Tommy. Got the feels. It feels like a home Grand Prix weekend, the Italian Grand Prix. You know why, right? Yeah, yeah. I've had mine.

Now it's yours. Yeah, exactly. Wow, I didn't think of that. And yours went horrendously. So I really hope mine doesn't echo that. because right now I'm feeling very excited, very happy, of course, to be back. Formula One, what is it, 11 races in 14 weekends? This one week we've had off is going to feel like a summer break

when we have it in a few races time. Yeah, literally. So lots of races coming and this championship that has felt like it's just constantly stalling. We get a little bit and then we have a week off, then we get a little bit. The picture is going to change very quickly with that many weekends over the next 14. And I'm so excited. Yeah, the Italian Grand Prix, we move in silence. How are you?

I'm good. Yeah, excited for Monza. See how these new cars work at Monza and everything. Monta's always a great spectacle, isn't it? And yeah, excited for Formula One to be back because it's so bizarre how, yeah, the season, it's like, come on, where's the momentum? And now when we get to these final races, we'll be going, oh, my God. momentum. Yeah.

Have it all now. Let's have a week off. Right. I think a lot of you enjoyed this last time, but we're sort of including a news segment in our predictions episodes now to get people up to speed, to get us up to speed as well. When you've had a week off, you're like, what's F1 again? Especially because there's actually is some. Yeah, there's actually been news, whereas I think at one time we were like, just not

been anything. It was the summer break. Nothing's happened. Anyway, there has been a bit of news. First and foremost, Ferrari revealing a Michael Schumacher livery for Monson. If you haven't seen it, go and take a look because I was a happy boy seeing that. That car is exactly what I pleaded for at the start of the year. Essentially that, where I was just like, why have they made the white part of the Ferrari?

I just didn't like, and I made it very clear. I didn't like it. And Ferrari went, but wait, Matt, don't worry. We're going to do it for a one-off to celebrate Schumacher and his legacy at Monza, which I don't mind. I don't mind it at all. Very happy to see it. It's really cool, isn't it? Yeah, 30 years since Schumacher won, his first race with Ferrari at Monza, which is obviously an incredible thing. Really cool to see the delivery. And it's exactly what I was saying when we saw at the start of the year and HP have been trying to kind of almost hide the HP a little bit or put lots of white on the car.

The H.P. Farrari haven't. Ferrari have been. Ferrari have. Yeah, exactly. They're like, make us bigger guys. Yeah, exactly. But I always said that it won't look that bad if you just have a red car and the HP. I'd rather that than you're trying to do all this like white.

And I know everyone when we initially had a reaction was like, well, actually in 1970, it's Nikki Lauder. It's like, I know. I know, but like the Ferrari should be red. And that, to me, to me, how I picture a Ferrari is what. what that car looks like this weekend and i know people think tommy you're really old you don't go back to the 70s you're not you're not watching it back then no the first that's not that's not race i watched was that michael micha one so there's wow there you go watching watching my goat in action we love to see it what were you 15 16 okay do you want me to ruin it for you though now

oh what so ferrari have had a special livery um constantly basically they had one in 2022 didn't win 23 didn't win, 25 didn't win, and 26. The only year they haven't had it recently was 24 and they won. All right. So we'll see. Well, it's time to change because Michael Schumacher is on the car now, so we're not messing around. Oh, and one more thing. I love the overalls. Do you see the back with the seven stars that Shoeing had on his helmet? That's, I think it looks even cool on the car. Yeah, I mean, come on. We've got that, we've got Ferrari upgrades coming. If all of that combined doesn't get us, a one, I don't know what will.

Moving away from Ferrari now, news of course about Lando Norris, extending his deal with McLaren to the end of 2030, with a multi-year to go even longer, potentially. So we will see on that front if Lando decides to end his career at McLaren,

however long that will go on for. But it does seem like we're just seeing these drivers, these big drivers, just remain loyal to their team. Max Verstappen, of course, comes to mind in particular, Charlecler as well, Ferrari, they are just like, hey, I'm happy, I'm going to stay there.

And Philando, I think he even quite interestingly said about the fact he just doesn't want to spend time with anyone else than the team that he has around him, which I think is really cute. And it's nice because he's obviously built a camaraderie there. And you can tell, you know, this year we've been singing his praises almost every single race weekend. You can tell that he's probably enjoying it more than ever at McLaren at the moment, having won the title, McLaren have proved themselves as a team,

that they can develop and create a car that can win championships. So why change? Why even move the commitment? Of course, end of 2030, that's when we potentially are going into another new regulation. Although Mohammed bin Salim has said maybe it's a year earlier. It's around that time, isn't it? But no surprise to see Lando, stay at McLaren.

No, you could see him. I know we said this about Lowe's Hamilton and stuff, but you could see him being there forever. And it does seem more common now, like a Charlotte at Ferrari, like a Max at Red Bull, that they're just going to stay there for almost their, if not their whole career. And yeah, you bet yourself into a team.

We've seen drivers move and not gone well for them. So yeah, I very much, I'm not surprised to see Lando deciding I'm going to stick with McLaren for a very long time and potentially for its whole career. and yeah, I think it's a wise choice, isn't it? There's no point in him going anywhere. He's got that team around him. And particularly at the moment, like, he's a loving life.

Certainly is. And now over to another big team. And probably the biggest news of all, if we're talking about Italian Grand Prix and how the result may change. And that is Kimmy Antonelli starting last, or set to start last, or if I guess if there are any other grid penalties,

maybe 21st, but at the back, with a big old grid penalty, they're taking everything. They're like, we want a brand new car for the Italian Grand Prix. And of course, this is a big thing as of right now, but I also very much predict that in the next five or six races

we're going to have other teams, other drivers, taking similar penalties. It's just that Antonelli is the first of the big lot to take such a... Of course, I mean, I mean, I'm talking about championship. Lando, I know is somewhat in the championship picture. But yeah, of course, yeah, Lando is a good shout. And now he is bringing himself maybe into the championship picture.

But Antonelli, of course, the championship leader. Starting at the back, a wise decision, in my opinion, if you're to look at the circuits. And as much as Monza, Monza is a bit of a question mark, isn't it? Because the last sort of two or three years, it's been one of the hardest tracks to overtake at because they've run such skinny wings and no one can get any kind of run

on anyone else and it's just a massive long DRS train back then. I do wonder whether there will be more opportunity now that we have these new cars and weighs deploying battery and sure. With the active air ray. But clearly they think there's something possible here

because there's no way they would have put and they would have said, look, Kimmy, I know it's your first home race where you're going to be doing really well at Mercedes. There must be a strategic option here to take away a potential win at his home race because they're trying to score as many points as possible. Yeah, I'm surprised that they've done it here.

There's obviously logic behind it, as you say, they've obviously run the data and run all the simulations and everything like that to know that Mercedes are probably going to be really strong there and this would be a better chance. Obviously, he wouldn't be taking it this early in the season if he hadn't have had all the problems and the DNFs and the mechanical failures.

that he's had. That's why a bit like Landon Norris, you know, he's taking it quite early into the season. Normally it gets much later in the season when people start taking them, but such has been the reliability. He needs to do it now. And it makes sense just get it all done in one go. I saw some people saying maybe it relieves a bit of the pressure of his home race as well for it to almost be like, see what you can get. But at the same time, I think that's a lot of rubbish. I think that you're the championship leader and you have to score as many points as possible at your home deliver at his home race. He wants to He's going to overtake so many cars that

like, I don't know, I think that puts more pressure on him to get a result. Do you not think? Yeah, yeah. I personally am surprised that they've done this, but obviously maybe it is a case of they have to and they're simply going to run out of parts and it's better that than him, starting from pole position,

having a car failure and going, oh, well, we should have done that. So, yeah, that's obviously the thinking behind it, but always fun to see one of the top runners at the back because it makes for a fun race. Maybe we don't know right now. George Russell could potentially also take new parts to start the back as well.

I don't see Mercedes personally if they don't have to making both of their drivers start from the back because that in itself could be slight carnage between the two of them. Yeah, they're like Ferrari, we really want you to win this right. Go on, you can have this one. Yeah, we'll both start. Yeah, don't worry about it. But we'll see. That's a question mark because George is very close, if not for the.

Italian Grand Prix than somewhere in the near future. I think Max is also running out of parts as well. But right now, the only one confirmed is Kimmy. And then also, I guess, another question mark is Hajjar on whether he'll race. As of recording right now, we don't know. And I think they are going to be deciding tomorrow or maybe as this is released today. So it may well, you may well know that news by the time you watch this. Yeah, they don't know yet. They're deliberately leaving it as later as possible to make sure, obviously, Hadja really wanted to race in the first place in Zandvo, but was advised not to by no less than Marquez, who actually had a similar injury to him and rushed back and it's made his career much more challenging. So maybe as much as it probably

pains him, and particularly seeing how well Lawson is doing in his car, is probably the sensible bet to just make sure he's he's ready to go. Of course, as a racer, you know he'd probably race whatever, but it's not the sensible option to do so. No, especially when you have so many races coming up. If he was to miss one more to make sure that wrist is all good, then you'll have a flurry of races to get back into the swing of things. But only he knows and only Red Bull know exactly how deep that injury goes. Right, that is it. That's the news, done. Not the whole thing. That sounded like I was ending the podcast. That is not correct. We are now, going to predictions, where the score is 4133 to Tom Bellingham.

It's eight points. Mind the gap. This is the biggest. Did you just say mind the gap? That is disgraceful. If you've never travelled on the London Underground, that's what Tommy is referring to, the absolute bleep. So, yeah, that is a big old gap, I'll be honest.

And that's why I am bouncing back this week. Yeah, you watch me. It's my turn to go first. Nothing ever goes badly when you say watch this. Watch and learn. Not watch this, watch and learn. Okay. All right, everybody, here we go then.

Good surprise. My good surprise is Williams. So you thought that you thought that I was going to maybe say a different team. And you might be surprised. I may not even mention them once this predictions because we move in silence. However, for Williams, we will not move in silence. There is really nothing to suggest that they will be good round here. But one, I'm still throwing teams out to try and score two points,

which is a strategy which may well end up me being 25 points behind come the end of the season. But that's fine. Williams were, if you didn't know, the team that always used to turn up at Monza and that's it, really. They used to have an incredible result. James Vowles said, you know, we're going to make a more of a sort of a baseline car, we're not going to just focus on the high speed tracks, and yet they were still good at Monza. Yeah, everyone thought Nick DeVries was the next big thing based on his result. Yes, they really did, including us, I think, and that didn't turn out to be the case.

But I've gone for Williams because they're on a terrible run of just generally being rubbish this year, and if they have even a remotely good result, with Alex Albon now, maybe with a bit more confidence. Carlos Sines wanted to bounce back, we could see a 13th and 14th good surprise locked in. Yeah, the bar's low, isn't it for Williams? Speaking of, good surprise, I've gone for Max Verstappen. So, yes. Speaking of what exactly, what? The bar being low.

Oh, right. I literally think it meant speaking of Williams. I've gone for Alex Alba. Yeah, I've been so pessimistic about Max Verstappen this year. Really? I've never noticed. Yeah, I know. And been proven right.

so let's try some positivity and see what happens is basically the logic of this prediction and he's in the past has been good around Monter that's a very different regulation of course this was the the place where we started to see the amazing comeback begin and thought what if I don't think that's going to happen but yeah I'm just trying some positivity for Max to see if it helps because it's not been going too well recently and as I was kind of joking about can't get worse than Zandvot maybe we'll see. Hopefully not for your sake. Interesting. Okay, Max Verstappen, as you say, the bar pretty low. So any kind of good result there, little podium, little cheeky P3 and you might be arguing it. Okay, let's go to

a big flop. Big flop I've gone for Kimmy Antonelli. Now of course there needs to be some, this will be discussed in the podcast. because I'm not going to say that Kimi Antonelli having a grid drop is like, oh, that means he's flopped. I'm thinking here that there needs to be some additional kind of he's struggling to make it through the field, or he's making mistakes, or maybe he takes his front wing off, like, trying to get past traffic or something. Something clumsy. This isn't me just cashing at a point because he's probably going, he will start last. So, you know, being like, well, actually, he's never been off the podium or something like that.

I do think there's, there will be some pressure on him to deliver his home race, fighting through the field. There's also a bit of a home race curse, which people love to mention at the moment that's kind of hitting everyone this season, it seems like. So yeah, I've gone for Kimmy Antonelli. Interesting. I'm glad you explain that because I know a lot of people would be going, how dare you.

And you, yeah, exactly. Yeah, a lot of people being me. Yeah. But we will assess that one in great detail. And I will make sure you don't score a point. So I'm like, Tommy, finish 12th. That's 10 positions game. What are you talking about?

My big flop. It's a team? McLaren. I am sorry, McLaren fans. All I'm angling for here is neither of them on the podium. And we've cooked. All right. So this is the one.

sort of unknown at the moment for McLaren. The last two races called Landau has been incredible to win at quite different tracks, Sanford and Hungary. Monza, I would say, is another big change. They could well not be the fastest team. You could have Mercedes, maybe Ferrari. We don't know exactly right now. So this is pure vibes.

This is pure like Lando's won a couple on the bounce. Maybe just maybe McLaren won't be as quick round here. So that's the logic. It has an unbelievable race. Yeah, you watch this. Land O'Fillish 7, but Oscar will win. But now I'm going to flop them. No real reason, as I say, but I need double points.

So McLaren, come on. But also, sorry, if you support McLaren. Right. Let's go to pole position, shall we? I'm not mentioning them. I'm not doing it. I'm not. I told you, we're moving in silence.

My pole position is Charles LeCler. I'm proud of you for not doing the hit me out. No. I've gone for Shal. Okay. Because I cannot physically move in silence without talking about them for the Italian Gron. Yeah, yeah, fair.

They are bringing their second upgrade, update, whatever you want to call it, with the ad duo thing, the engine. I'm hearing rumors that it could be significant. Oh, they got like a nitro button or something that they... I don't care. As long as it's in a sealed document and we don't need to talk about it

after this race and we've won it all. That's all that matters. But look, of course, there is a romantic view here for Charles or Lewis to get pole position at Monza in that livery will hit. Of course, for me, if Charles does it, it hit slightly more.

But yeah, I think that there is a genuine possibility. Ferrari every single year, almost without fail, they could be rubbish. and then they're, oh, hold on, they're fastest in practice. It just feels as though Ferrari know that this is their like LeMond 24 hours. They put everything into this one race to make sure they're competitive.

And they love to do it as well, don't they, where at the start of the season, you go, oh, their car seems really suited to Monaco, and which you think would be complete, and obviously is, the complete opposite race to Monza, yet somehow it flips on its head. And they're like, right, Monaco's done. Let's now develop the car to suit Monza so we can win in Italy. Maybe that's their downfall of trying to win a championship. But I don't know. Yeah, we'll see that there's obviously talk of the upgraded engine.

I think had this been right at the very start of the year, you wouldn't put this one down as Ferrari's best based on the fact that they're kind of lacking a little bit in their engine. but with some upgrades and the catching up of these new rules, you know, obviously everyone needs to catch up with Red Bull because they're so far ahead. Phenomenal engines. Yeah, what an engine. Yeah, we'll see.

And I can't wait for it if it happens because... Are you going to tell me your poll position? It felt like you were just ending the conversation then and just leaving me hanging as to what your poll position would be. My poll position is George Russell. think that Mercedes will be very, very strong around this circuit. Shall we, before you go into more, and you just said about Kimmy, what if Kimmy, because someone else also is starting at the back of the grid,

what if Kimmy decides, you know what, I'm going to do qualifying anyway, gets pole, is it whoever starts first? No, it's pole position, right? Which is pole position. Whoever starts first? Yeah, starts first on Sunday, yeah. I love how we still, we still deliberate. I had qualify for, no, whoever starts first.

Yes. Whoever starts first. Whoever starts first, yes, as well I said. So basically, if Kimmy has a grid drop, he cannot, it's impossible for him to get pole position. Yes, exactly. It's impossible is the easiest way of explaining that one. So yeah. I'm going for Russell, which again, he could be like, actually, you know what?

Screw you. I'm going to take the penalty, so you don't get the point. Please, don't. There's the risk. George, if you're listening and you want some ideas ahead of Monza, just take the engine. He did tell us at Silverstone that he's seen the video,

whether that was just that he saw that one thumbnail because I'd predict him flop. No, he did say he watches the videos. Okay. And he said it in a much more positive light than some people on Twitter thought he'd said it, which was very interesting.

Yeah, very true. So George, yeah, look, if you're listening, take the engine drop, man. Just so Tommy doesn't score a point. Cheers, appreciate it. Okay, let's go to third place in the race. P3 I've gone for Lando Norris

The winner last time out Winner the time before that On an amazing run Like you I don't think McLaren are going to Flot but I think that there's a argument that they may not be as strong As what we've seen and suit them as much

But that being said I'm still putting Lando on the podium Because he's just on such unbelievable form Although based on the whole extending your contract deal maybe that's going to play in your favour a little bit yeah the end the car is going to fall apart now that that's that's happened it is the extension curse okay interesting Ladenoris for you P3 my third place George Russell George cheeky podium in another land in another predictions

episode I've popped him in first and he's winning by a country mile because he's in a Mercedes. But who knows. Who knows who I've gone for for second and first place. But for, yeah, George Russell, P3, I think they're going to be really strong. It just depends if one or two other teams,

depending on how I've gone, how quick will they be? But I feel like I'm going to regret putting George Russell P3, but I'm going to lock it in. Also, actually, something that just came to mind is that the Zanvort predictions and someone commented saying,

I bet Matt's regretting now trying to second guess his predictions because I had put Lando first and then changed it to Kimmy Antonelli. Oh, yes, you did. Yeah, I remember that. I've lost sleep since that moment when someone highlighted it. So thank you if you're the one that commented that because I need every point I can get. So I'm really, I'm not doing any mind games this time because it clearly is costing me points. In second position for the Italian Grand Prix, I am locking in. Lewis Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton, a little cheeky P2.

Okay. Does Ferrari are going to be quick? Will Lewis be quicker than Charles? We shall finish off the podium. TBC is all I'll tell you. Lewis Hamilton P2. P2 have gone for George Russell. A little George P2.

I think he'll be very strong. You're now, you know, unsure whether I'm going to screw you. Well, you know that I will drive to your house and make sweet love to you if you, if you, uh, if you don't. I thought you were going to say that you'd, you'd like punch me if I went for the prediction. No, I did think that there would be more PG, but I don't know if that was more PG at all. Yeah, I don't think it was. And now you're definitely going to go for him. So there you go.

Cool. All right, George Russell P2. Fair enough. Perfect. Okay. Over to P1, Tommy. P1. Hear me out.

Max for Stepen. Oh wow. Yeah, no, good. Why not? I'm driving to your house right now. Again, so much pessimism around Max. Let's just go for the win and see what happens. Yeah, part of it's that I can't shake the feeling that why not? Maybe he might do something here that this is the one he could deliver at.

If he can just get that Red Bull. You know, they do have the best engine, of course, as well. The best ICE, Tom. Yes, indeed. Sorry, the best ICE. To be fair, which is the engine. The power unit is up for debate. Okay, wow. I don't know. I just, yeah.

You just know, right? I know what you're like. You're like eight points clear, so you feel a bit fruity, you feel a bit flexible. And then you're like, you know what? If Max comes in, I score the point and I go down in history as one of the greatest predictions. It's not quite Pierre Gasly, P3 in Monaco, but it would be, it's Max's first win. it comes in yeah i think the the boring option would be to go for russell to win based on the fact that antono's got a penalty so i've so gone poland second predictions all over again isn't it

it'd be boring to go for george russell who hasn't won in absolutely ages austria yeah okay so on the sprint but yeah yeah all right first position for the italian grand prix hear me out chal lecler okay charler He's doing it. Just lock it in. I thought we were going to get the flag and the singing. No, no, because I could sense you knew what was coming. And I'm not going to perform for you if you already know, you know.

So like, and everybody knew this was coming. To be fair, I didn't until about 30 minutes ago when I was doing these predictions. And you saw the Michael Schiavacalybrae. I went straight down the, my God, it would be so incredible to see them one to it around, around Mons. in that livery. I think I might actually cry. As a shoo me fanboy, if I saw that livery just go, ah, it would be truly emotional. So that's why I've jinxed them entirely and it's a double DNF. So there you go. Charle-le-Cleur, P-1, please. Let's not forget just how incredible Lecler was to win Monza the last time he did. It was so out of nowhere, it was ridiculous.

Give me another one of those. The cheeky one stop. Does, McClaren out of nowhere you know that that's the dream yeah yeah I mean this is this is quite funny and fitting isn't it because every time there are some parts of the internet that think if you don't predict your favorite driver to win every single race you're not a real fan so we've actually you know we've done what people expect you know when when I predict anyone else other than Vestappen they thought you're a Vastappen fan it's like well he's not gonna win though is he so we've done that now I've gone for Max you've gone for Schaul and let's

how it goes. And now the universe can be angry at something else. Yeah. Okay, there you go then. That is, yeah, Leclair and Vastappen. Can't wait for neither of them to be on the podium. Let's go to P-Watt, where the random number generator is going to go between 4 and 22

and we're going to have to think, on the spot, who will finish there? And who's going first, Tommy? Who's first? Is you? Oh, God. 4 and 22. Please be a good number this time. Yeah, no, wait, because what we had previously, We've had like just really low. Really low.

Like 19th. 21st. Yeah. What'd he do? Quite. Okay. All right. Here we go.

16th. We've had that before. Boring. Boring. Boring. Boring. Lanch stroll. I'm going to go for Alex Alburn.

Okay. So you're not feeling the Williams hype. Fair enough. No, not. All right. Interesting. If you get two points from that, I'll be so angry.

Okay. Let's go to one crazy prediction, Tommy. One crazy prediction is that both Cadillacs beat Aston Martin in qualifying. Oh, wow. Wow, you just went, nah. Aston are not good. They're not going to be good round here. It doesn't matter what upgrades they brought.

Yeah, yeah. I'd just gone back to Aston Martin being pretty much dead last. I was going to say Aston Martin last and then see if you'd forget the Kimmy Anthony loophole, but I'm not that shameful. not that shameful yeah yeah i go for cadillac to to beat astin in qually both cadillacs beat both astens that is that's that is quite quite the prediction of that comes in fair play to you sir because i can't see that happening interesting my one crazy prediction both ferraris on the podium it's only happened once this year it has actually silverstone yeah so it is a bold it's bold yeah

it's bold it's crazy it's not crazy it's happening uh Ferrari have literally come out my every single time I've been able to talk about them in a positive light. So apart from good surprise, I had to spread my eggs somewhere and give William some props or hopeful props. So they go, both for I was on the podium, make it happen, please. I don't care in which order. I do care. Charlotte-Claude P-1, please. Thank you so much.

Nothing Italian on the podium, brackets. No Kimmy and no Ferraris. And I want to clarify nothing Italian on the podium. It's basically that no Kimia and no Ferraris is what I'm going for here. Not the fact that... The champagne. Yeah, because the champagne is Italian, I think. So that doesn't count.
