Starting point is 00:00:05 Hello everybody and welcome back to the B1 podcast with Matt and Tommy. I hope you are all surviving the F1 summer break. And we thought we would take the time to have a little poke at some of your predictions that you made at the start of this year. Because, you know, you know what? We go through so much criticism over the course of a Formula One season. Oh, you're so bad. You're terrible, guys.
Starting point is 00:00:34 You never get it right. sometimes we get it right and it's amazing, but sometimes we do get it wrong. But we got you guys to submit your predictions at the start of the year. And wow, I know the season's not over, by the way, and I know that Aston Martin could still theoretically win the World Championship. They could. Can they?
Starting point is 00:00:51 Can they still? Well, yeah. Maybe the constructors. Depends on cancelled races, I guess, actually, as well. Yeah, that's so true. But yes, so we know that the season's not over, but I think we can wholeheartedly say that the ones in which we have picked will be wrong no matter what.
Starting point is 00:01:07 Yes, certainly some bad ones here. And it's just fun to reflect on how different Formula One was in January, not just and maybe dive into a little of why these, because they look ridiculous now, but at the time, these weren't hot takes. And I think that's absolutely insane to think that a team, obviously, of course we're going to mention us for mine. a team that's done terribly were predicted so such great things and so many others
Starting point is 00:01:40 throughout the grid and you know January it was new regulations we were guessing like we had no idea what was going on it was all basically just vibes and rumours wasn't it it certainly was now this data these predictions are based on 6,000 of you that basically made your votes for things like who would win the championship who would flop so we're going to go through some of that data as well, which is some good reading. So stay tuned. Stay tuned for that. So shall we begin with our first bold prediction for 2026, even though they weren't that
Starting point is 00:02:14 bold? And we were like, yes, I can see that happening. The first one is from P1 Patreon member Bacon Racing. Fernando Alonzo is world champion. We had to start with Aston Martin because the hype was real. For a lot of people, I want to say that, I wasn't one of them. I predicted, you know, at start the year that Ashton Martin would be terrible. So don't want to cash in on that.
Starting point is 00:02:40 That went down well, didn't it? Yeah, they went down horrifically. Not that I was saying Alonzo would do bad. I was saying that Aston Martin wouldn't be as good as they were supposed to be and hyped up to be. And my goodness gracious me, this could not be further from the truth. Fernando Alonzo, Aster Martin, have had the worst possible championship campaign you could possibly think. So he scored one point, of course. Orlando in the good old Monaco Grand Prix that was the craziest race, not in terms of action, but in terms of penalties and just chaos.
Starting point is 00:03:14 D&Fs and tracks disintegrating and things like that. So I don't think that Bacon Racing, our lovely P1 Patreon member, thought that in the mid-season break, Fernando Alonzo would have one point. Yeah, 218 points behind the championship leader. closer to dead last than he is 17th. It's not gone well for Asin Martin. This was a popular prediction, probably why you got a bit of stick from some fan bases of you saying,
Starting point is 00:03:52 I don't think they're going to improve. And as you said, it wasn't about Alonto. It's just I was also on a similar train of thought of, I don't think Asson Martin are going to be as good as people are thinking because this is an engine formula and it's a little bit more kind of that and your Mercedes are going to be the ones that are dominating and being, doing really well. However, I don't think any of us could have predicted it to be this bad. You know, I think I think it's fair to say that our lack of hype of Aster Martin was more, I don't, I don't think they're going to improve that much.
Starting point is 00:04:28 I can't really see them winning races and Alonzo challenging for the world title, maybe not even podiums, but this, I didn't expect them to be the worst team for a lot of the season, driving at the back five seconds off the pace, like every single lap. It's just insane what's happened when you think, you look back to this and go, wow, the expectation of Asso-Martin, like very well-respected people within Formula One, were saying like the title is going to be between George Russell and Fernando Alonzo. And here we are with Alonzo with a single point down in 19th in the championship. Can you imagine anyone saying with their chest at the end of 2025, start of 2026,
Starting point is 00:05:14 that Aster Martin would be behind Cadillac for most races. Of course, they're one point ahead in the constructors, so technically they're beating them. But they have been behind them at the majority of the races by quite some margin. Like you would have been absolutely ridiculed for having that kind of opinion. I mean, when we both said that, as you say, we didn't think they'd improve that much. They didn't improve one single bit. They went back three seconds compared to the fastest car. It's crazy to even say that this is a real scenario.
Starting point is 00:05:46 And as you say, other people also came in with it. And yes, yeah, we're going to highlight some of you guys. All right, yeah, you're welcome. Zebenack said Alonzo becomes world champion. chasing news, says Alonzo World Champion. Loco 14. Alonzo World Champion, GRBR TV, Alonzo champion 20 years after his last.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Jay Bassaron, Aston Martin, dominance could bore fans. People were really on that hype train, weren't there? We had a lot of them in the live shows, I remember, as well at the end of last year, people saying Alonzo, at the very least, is going to get his 33rd win, maybe challenge for the title.
Starting point is 00:06:19 He was actually, so going into like the polls that we did, Alonzo was the sixth most predicted driver of being champion more people said Alonzo would be world champion than Lewis Hamilton there's a thought Kimmy Antinelli
Starting point is 00:06:37 We'll talk about him later Oh okay Tease everyone Tommy, you're such a tease But my word Like how has it gone so wrong for us to Martin Now it's kind of funny because the hype is picking up again lives. I've seen people going, wow,
Starting point is 00:06:54 Aston Martin's new upgrades coming to Zandvort is expected to be, you know, put them a second like that like quicker and stuff. It's like, okay. Still two seconds behind then. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Still maybe the fifth best team if that. So it's not where they were expecting to be for sure. Yeah, and you mentioned about engine formula coming into this year. Astor Martin got it wrong in every single department, including the one that Adrian Newey is fully responsible for. So that's something none of us. could have thought that.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Even though Adrian Newey, I will remember him saying at preseason testing that aerodynamically the Aston Martin is the fifth fastest car and I don't think that was the case though, was it?
Starting point is 00:07:32 I don't think that was the case. So I am interested to see... Noel Lansdroll was going full lock through cops at Silverstone and stuff. Yeah, and then proceeded to out-qualify for Nando-Lanzer on the next day. Just go to things from Lanserl. Speaking of, the hype was so strong
Starting point is 00:07:49 for Aston Martin that people genuinely thought Lance Stroll would win a race. Hugh Vila's Lexi says Stroll wins a race. P1-Patry member, Albans won. Lance Stroll wins his first race. That is how dominant some people thought the Aston Martin would be. And fair enough, right? Aston Martin cooked on social media.
Starting point is 00:08:14 It's the only thing they did cook on, it was on social media before the season of, yeah i mean generating that excitement for for a team that has got all the dominoes now all the pieces in place the puzzle is now complete by design black and white images or a farming like crazy yeah they won well no i think ferrari maybe won the year of championship astamartan came second and at least ferrari delivered somewhat this year maybe not as much as some what did you think tommy lance-strol winning a race it seems ridiculous now and i think everyone will be laughing at it but it's not insane to think that had Aston Martin delivered like a Mercedes W11 or a Ferrari F-2004
Starting point is 00:08:58 and we've seen that in the past that one team, particularly in new regulations, have been miles ahead and completely dominated. And if they were finishing one two for fun, it only takes a one Lance Stroll, you know, good, good weekend, which has happened. seconds off, but Ashton Martin are a lap clear everyone. Exactly. So it's not obscene that if this had happened and Adrian Nui and Ashton Martin had delivered this amazing car, then this could have happened.
Starting point is 00:09:31 But of course it looks ridiculous now when Lance Stroll is 20th and yet to score a point. Yet to score at all. And then when you look at Aster Martin last year, this is where people were reaching an insane amount It's not as if Astor Martin were delivering on a level that you would think, okay, a little step forward and they'll be able to win races. You know, Alonso finished 10th in the Drivers' Championship with 56 points. Lance Stroll was down in 16th with 33. So the dream was alive for some people that they would take this insane step forward.
Starting point is 00:10:06 It was Nui. It was newie, new regulation. Everyone just assumed that was the cheat code and it's done. Right. But it was not? Nope. Was it? It wasn't at all. Okay, let's now move on to Lewis Hamilton, who of course came off the back of a very disappointing, 2025 first year with Ferrari, and a statement was made by P1 Patreon member JT1.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Lewis Hamilton loses his Ferrari seat mid-season. And another one as well, just to keep it on the Lewis Hamilton topic from P1 on Patreon. Top Gear 97, Lewis Hamilton won't get a podium and will leave Ferrari by the end of the season. So clearly, a recurring trend here, Tommy, that people thought Hamilton would potentially lose his seat. And
Starting point is 00:10:57 again, recency bias is an amazing thing. You know, you look at this season or maybe the last few months or whatever and you go, how on earth did anyone think that? But that was a genuine real conversation that was happening around
Starting point is 00:11:12 Olly Berman. Is he going to get the step up to Ferrari if Hamilton doesn't have a good season this year. Will Ferrari regret signing him because they're not seeing the performances they may have expected from Hamilton? Of course, all of that has been washed away now because Hamilton is having a brilliant season and has got his mojo back. But to actually look at these now, you're like, how? How is this possible? But it really was. Yeah, it's easy to say. How is anyone saying this? They're saying it because Hamilton had probably the worst season of his entire career last year, didn't score
Starting point is 00:11:48 a single podium for Ferrari. He was getting knocked out in Q1 sometimes. We also can add to that even more that I think the Ferrari hype was incredibly low at this point in January where there was not great things coming out of rumour mills
Starting point is 00:12:07 and, you know, like journalists and websites saying that Ferrari didn't think they're going to be that good this year, and Charlotte Clair's not very happy and Lewis Hamilton's not very happy and obviously it was all just rumors and based on what we were hearing from from other people but there was not a lot of hype around Ferrari that as well as Hamilton having this absolutely horrendous season and going to that that poll that we did at the start of the season in January as you say 6,000 fans and nearly a quarter of
Starting point is 00:12:41 of fans said he'd be the flop of the season 22.4% of all fans that we've hold said that Hamilton would be the biggest flop which is crazy like people were really on this this whole like Hamilton's finished what like this is unfortunately like his career is going to end in a really sad way he's not going to improve and now we're sat here of him second in the in the world championship got a win for Ferrari not not just a podium and having a really strong season. You know, he was in our top three in both our mid-season, I think, from the fans as well.
Starting point is 00:13:19 So, yeah, what a turnaround for Lewis Hamilton. It's insane to be even having this conversation of thinking that now, that, wow, it was going to get replaced or should they go for youth in Bairman? But those conversations were happening. The conversations happen, and also that's how cutthroat this sport, is, you know, if you're on a poor run of form, these chats will happen. Even if you are Lewis Hamilton, of course, who knows just how far Ferrari were down the, down the sort of conversations of making
Starting point is 00:13:53 that replacement, probably not that far. They've invested in Hamilton. It was a huge move. It was, it was the biggest move we've ever seen in Formula One, in my opinion. And I'm so glad that it's working out for Hamilton because no one wants to see a Lewis that is not being able to perform, not being able to be right at the front. That's where he belongs. It's where races are. most exciting when he's fighting the likes of Vestappen and this year Antonelli and so on and so forth. So fantastic to see that this was not the case. As much as I'm a small Olly Behrman fan, I think it's a little bit too soon for Olly to get the step up to Ferrari just yet. Well, I will say on that poll, because we're not going to mention him so I can say it now.
Starting point is 00:14:34 The second most predicted flop of the year was Tom Bellingham. was yeah probably 14.7% of the vote was Lando Norris so two of the best drivers this season in Lewis Hamilton and Lando probably you know I think along with Antonelli that those two probably the top three drivers this season and those two were predicted uh by everyone to yeah flop and have a shock I'm hearing this by the way I'm hearing all these results and uh next time I see the comments of us being terrible at this thing Just remember what you've predicted. Right, let's move on to Max Vastappen. Do we have to do? Yes, we do. Can bask in the glory.
Starting point is 00:15:17 How far is Vastafin behind, to be fair, there's only, God, he's actually only 29 points behind Charlotte Clare. He's 108 points clear of someone who is heavily predicted to win the World Championship in Fernando Alonso, so I think it's a great season. Do you? Yeah, I mean, Charlotte Clare's ahead of him. So, that, had you told me that, you know, Charlotte Clue would be ahead of Match of Manchester. Wow.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Okay. All right. So the prediction was from Hassan Ali Gardesi. Max 24 out of 24 wins. That's got to be your burner account. There is no... I mean, I was the one that said he wouldn't win a race. True. You were. You were. But also, I feel like, you know, maybe you try and go the other side as well to balance the force. I don't know. But yes, I don't know how many people actually thought this. I don't really think that this was maybe as popular of a opinion. No. As we're suggesting, of course, we're shouting it out because we like to bask in the glory
Starting point is 00:16:12 of other people's failures of predictions. And this one is a big old one because it is currently zero of, are we 11? Yeah, thanks. 11? 11, yeah. Yeah, 11. So, we're halfway through the season, no wins. Of course, a couple of second places for Max and a couple of thirds as well.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Thought at one point at the start of the year, God, is he even going to get a podium, let alone let alone a win. Of course we've seen some great performances from Max this year when the car has worked but the car has not worked very consistently at all. It's been very up and down in terms of performance and I still think he will maybe snatch a victory in this second half of the season. We've seen enough performance maybe to suggest that there is a chance here. I think it will require a Mercedes blow up either literally or them making mistakes and perhaps the door will be open at a time where Red Bull are competitive, but I also don't think that they will be competitive every single race weekend because we haven't seen that so far this year. No, we haven't. How popular
Starting point is 00:17:16 was this prediction? Obviously, this is an extreme one saying that it's going to win every race, but in terms of Max winning the world title, he was second favourite in January in our poll. 28.3% of people said that Max would be world champion. Obviously, no surprise. I think a lot of people will have guessed that George Russell with 35% was the most popular. I actually think weirdly Max and Red Bull, there's probably more hype around Red Bull after testing than there was before it. Oh, for sure. Mercedes were passing the bat on, weren't they?
Starting point is 00:17:51 They were. They were saying, oh, the best power unit, this is, you know, it's amazing. And we both put him very, very high in our entire championship table predictions after that, that hype because Max went into testing and there was a lot of talk of like, oh, wow, Max, there was that talk wasn't there about Max was driving the car in a very specific way. And then everyone started copying. And then everyone started copying it. And it was like, wow, Max is on it.
Starting point is 00:18:24 Red Bull are amazing. They already know what they're doing. And then one qualifying session in and he's going backwards into a wall because of a soft a glitch or something so wow yeah it's uh not gone well for max this season for for sure to be down in six i think if you'd said max would be sixth in the title uh and not had a win i think that would have got a lot of stick probably as much as your asston martin one i think i'd have got some pelters from fellow staff and fans if i'd gone for that yeah yeah exactly um not enjoying at all the fact that you're having a bad season, mate.
Starting point is 00:19:05 It's taken a long time, but finally we're here. More, please. No, I'm kidding. I want to see Max at the front, but also I don't want him to beat Charlotte-Clair, so there you go. Yeah, just that, please. Just by like one point at the end of the season, about the fifth in the title. Oh, that's what will be the graphic in Abu Dhabi, if we do race there, or Imala, wherever we end up. Yeah, the fight for fifth between Vestapp and LeClau,
Starting point is 00:19:26 Vestappen dives down the inside. Charlotte-Claire turns in, oh, it's going to be, that's going to go on. that race at Bahrain, it'd be that, but for P5 in the championship. Yeah. As I'm going to talk about. Imler in the snow. Not the Antonelli Championship, they'll be like, did you see the half of fear? Wow.
Starting point is 00:19:43 As they drift around Imler in the blizzard in December. Indeed. Yeah, can't wait for that. Snowy race to end the season. So let's move on to another hype team, at least coming into this season. And it was, in fact, Williams. mini-mog came in with Williams
Starting point is 00:20:05 to be a top three constructor so they're not can we have an oof counter because I swear every time it's bad you say oof so can we can have an oaf counter are you going to start beatboxing is that what's going on right now
Starting point is 00:20:22 yeah no cool I think you have to put like it's like a swear jar but it's an oof jar instead they say how much of an oof it is like an oof scale double award winning podcast by the way So Williams are ninth in the Constructors Championship with 11 points.
Starting point is 00:20:41 Yeah, it's pretty bad, isn't it really? Alex Albonne has five points. Carlos Sines has six. It's devastating for Williams. The hope, the dreams coming into this season were so, so big. And quite rightly so. I remember in our, which we will reflect on at the end of the year, maybe, you know, Carlos or Alex Albon can get a tricky win.
Starting point is 00:21:06 I said Alex Albon would be a new race winner at the end of this year. Just, you know, I'm going to say for content. Any time I'm wrong, it's for content. It wasn't because I'm being serious. Daddy Val said it and you'd have believed anything he said in that moment. God, yeah. Yeah, he would get me into bed, no problem. So, um, Hajar as well, I said would be a, would win.
Starting point is 00:21:30 So unexpected. It's fine. It's still PG. He could be playing Uno in bed. You never know. So, yeah, so I thought this would be the year of, you know, many, many victories for many teams, many drivers. That is obviously not the case right now. And for Williams, yeah, I really did, I believed the hype for sure.
Starting point is 00:21:51 As much as it's a massive shakeup of regulations and clearly Williams were not on it. But I don't think it was unreasonable to think that Williams could be, I mean, top three is a stretch. I would have said no to that. but I would have at the very least felt that they would be the fifth fastest team if not kind of having a look at the top four and saying yeah I don't mind it a couple of times the hype for Williams was insane because of what James Vowell said and how you know he said don't care about 24 25 it's all about 26 and they were really really strong in 25 you Carlos got a couple of podiums.
Starting point is 00:22:34 They were best of the rest quite easily. There were races early in the season in Miami and stuff, I think it was where they were fighting Ferrari. And a lot of people were probably going, well, if they're saying they're going to be even better, they've got a Mercedes engine as well. I think I was one of these people, actually, to be fair, that because of how scarred we were from 2014,
Starting point is 00:22:59 that we could see a situation where it was just, because this is what happened in 2014. If you've got a Mercedes engine, you're at the top. And, you know, it's easy to, it's easy to laugh and saying a top, a top four team for Williams or whatever or, or, or being there. But if Mercedes, it had been like as extreme as 2014, where it was a really extreme engine formula,
Starting point is 00:23:21 it could have easily been just like Mercedes, McLaren, Williams, Alpine, leaps and bounds ahead of everyone because of their power unit. But instead, Williams, it's really embarrassing how bad Williams are doing because they do have that power unit where Alpine started so strong. McLaren are now winning races with it. And Williams are just terrible, but the hype was there for sure. Like, you can see why so many people predicted this.
Starting point is 00:23:53 And this was probably the most popular one. You can read out the others. But I was going through the Instagram post. if you find it from that when we posted it in January, the one that we posted on Instagram, scrolling through it felt like about a quarter of all predictions
Starting point is 00:24:12 were basically like, Williams are going to do so well, Williams, Alex Alvin's going to win. Carlos Sons is going to, you know, be amazing. Like, it was so, so Williams-focused. It was indeed. And speaking of those other ones, Scudorier-Centurion says Williams
Starting point is 00:24:27 will be a top four team this season. Tyler and Odin, Carlos Sines, scores more points than Lewis Hamilton. That's a thing is as well. Of course last year, Science was out qualifying Hamilton. Oh,
Starting point is 00:24:41 what a move from Carlos. Can't believe. What a transfer. Yeah, he's not looking at Ferrari and wanting to go there. I think he might want to go back now. A little bit.
Starting point is 00:24:51 Or regretting Audi maybe. Yeah, or that. Well, although Audi finished like half their races they've started. At least they're looking
Starting point is 00:24:59 reasonably quick. Longo, 1996 said Alex Albon gets his first race win, which is not my burner account. Mad Barbara, Carlos Sines will be top five in the championship. Walsham, 1998, Sines and Williams win a race. And people on page remember Caleb Williams beat Ferrari in the World Constructors Championship. Yeah, so that's where Ferrari were in terms of people's opinions. And also the fact everyone loves to just, you know, just beat down on Ferrari a little bit anyway.
Starting point is 00:25:23 Yeah, for sure. But then the hype for Williams was very high. So then, yeah, people saw the crossover. People saw Ferrari going into the midfield and Williams maybe joining the top four. This might be the most insane thing from the poll that we did. 6,000 F1 fans polled. More people predicted Carlos Sites to be world champion than Kimmy Antonelli. Now that's a thought.
Starting point is 00:25:51 Wow. I think that really sums up the hype of Williams, doesn't it? No, it sums up that nobody knows anything and I won't hear anything else. Yeah, true. What do you mean Carlos Sines had more predictions than Kimi Antonelli? We can use that. We can use that one. That's our driver ratings ammunition every time we get back on.
Starting point is 00:26:11 Every single time we see a top comment. Matt and Tommy know nothing about Formula One. We'd be like, did you know? It would be like a fact. Did you know, P1 fans voted Carlos Siles. Lance Stroll to win the World Championship over Kimi Antonet. So yes, it's amazing how things have shaken up some good and some bad for the team. Now, speaking of Kimmy Antonelli, let's get to him, shall we?
Starting point is 00:26:34 Of course, off the back of a season, 2025 that was very up and down, maybe more down than up. You'd probably be fair to say. Sivanch underscore 1X1.1. Kimmy Antonelli costs Mercedes the Constructors title. So that was, Tommy was really holding back an oof there. I think he muted himself to not do it. I'm proud of him. But of course, I don't know if finally.
Starting point is 00:27:01 wins on the bounce and six in total this season is costing Mercedes the Constructors title. Can you imagine if you'd come out and said George Russell costs Mercedes the Mercedes the Constructed title? Because that's more likely than the other way around right now. Both of them of course are scoring a huge amount of points and Mercedes are 72 points clear of Ferrari at the moment. But yet I think we all were of the opinion that okay Antonelli will probably take a step forward because it's his second year. We spoke about the brand new regulations and the fact that maybe because he's young, he'll be able to adapt to it quicker and perhaps it will work well in his favour these new cars. But we also thought,
Starting point is 00:27:38 and I think it's fair to say, that mistakes would be there, that he would crash, that he would maybe make a mistake in qualifying, have track limits, get knocked out in Q2, whatever it might be. You know, things that we saw in 2025 that we thought would definitely eke over into this year. That has not been the case. Yes, there's been sort of, of rough edge moments for him. When he smashed into the wall in FP3 and Australia were thinking, yes, this will be happening. It was like the first competitive session is coming.
Starting point is 00:28:07 Let me get it out of the way now. Bang. And from there on, he has been phenomenal. He's both of our number ones for driver ratings so far. On average, of course, he's had some bad reliability. He had Canada where this is where I want to see more of Russell and Antonelli fighting is that Kimmy Antonelli is not the. perfect package right now. As much as he's winning the world championship, as much as his 50 points
Starting point is 00:28:33 clear, could easily be more had his car not broken down. But Canada was that moment where I think if you're George Russell, you go, if I can just get on his level, I can still win this world championship because he did boil over. I think George was slower, but outsmarted Kimmy in the racing. Russell was slower. Took it to extreme. Some people saying should have got like a penalty in the sprint, but he held him off and it frustrated Kimmy, didn't it? Yeah, I think it was marginally slower, but then also you kind of look at what the overtake mode would then do to keep Antonelli in the fight. I think they were very closely matched. But yeah, the thing there is that there was that small sort of crack in the armor
Starting point is 00:29:16 where you saw Antonelli hit a level of sort of anger that we hadn't seen. And this is fighting for a world championship. It's been far too easy for him when he's been winning, really, apart from obviously having terrible starts. He's come through the field and he's won. He's not had George Russell week in, week out, taking it to him. And that's where I think, yeah, Russell should be able to look at his experience, look at what he's seen this year and go, if I can just figure out this car, if I can just start racing Kimmy, I can outsmart him, potentially like what happened in Canada until George had his car breakdown. But, yeah, Anthony Lee, back to this point, is not going to cost Mercedes the Constructors title.
Starting point is 00:29:55 I don't think he's going to. Yeah, it's his teammate at the moment that... Mercedes might cost themselves, I think, if anything. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, I mean, George was easily the favourite going into the season, and you could argue that George at the moment is third in a two-horse race, but potentially, like, he's struggling... Just help back my own.
Starting point is 00:30:15 Yeah. I mean, it's kind of true. If you look here, the 59.1... 1% of fans said Mercedes would be constructors champions. So people were really thinking that, you know, most people were very confident it was going to be Mercedes. 0.9% of people predicted Kimmy to win the World Championship in January. One of them was me, of course.
Starting point is 00:30:45 You did it for content. Don't give me anything other than that. It's an absolute, we both said, we don't go for George Russell because it's boring. That's what we said. The George Russell that has not won a World Championship, We believe the hype so much that a George prediction was boring. You can edit YouTube videos afterwards, can you? I need to cut that bit out of this video.
Starting point is 00:31:05 Yeah, you should have said that, mate. You should have said it with your chest and just... Yeah, I know, I should have. I'm really annoyed I didn't and then bottled it when we got to our entire table and didn't kind of back it. Because, to be fair, like, I gave my reasons of why I could see it happening. And it has come true in that sense that, like, if Mercedes delivered the best car and it suits Antonelli more than Russell, he will challenge the title.
Starting point is 00:31:25 no one gave Oscar Piastria a prayer at the start of last season and it happened and it's happening again obviously he's not won the world title yet there's a lot of races still to go he's looking very very strong but as you say I don't think he's like completely untouchable but it's insane to to see what he's done so so far this year the fact that yeah George Russell 35% of people said George was going to win it almost and this is why we were joking about it that it felt almost like a foregone conclusion in January I really did feel like I don't see how it's any one other than George Russell winning this title and I was kind of concerned it was going to be incredibly boring.
Starting point is 00:32:04 And actually Kim Australia. Yeah, exactly. And Kimmy Antonelli's been the one that has looked kind of untouchable, you know, six wins compared to Russell's two, nine podiums compared to Russell's five. And Antinelli's the one going into every single weekend looking like he can win the win the race and his teammate isn't and it's going to be interesting to see how that continues with now more cars getting into the mix with Yolando Norris has been able to win races now and Lewis Hamilton, Charlerclair, how it happens with that as well. Thanks, mate. Max
Starting point is 00:32:42 Stephan. No, no, no. You just listed up race winners of 26 and then you win. Fernando Alonzo when they get the engine. I mean, the thing is, right, we need to be very careful because if they bring an engine upgrade that makes them three seconds a lot faster and we'll be like yeah and then we do a reaction to this video as reacting to our worst prediction from the worst prediction video um yeah very much yeah that would be good that that's that's some that's some fun stuff to i mean i hope that for our sake that would be hilarious if fernando starts winning races so yeah there we go all right i think that's it yeah they were certainly the bad bad predictions i'm trying to have a look at this what else you put a
Starting point is 00:33:23 Two more one from Jay Dogg saying Audi will win a race in before the summer break. Oh, is that the bottom of the sheet somewhere? We can read out. Why not? Just additional ones, you know, just throwing them in unless they are completely fabricated and not real. No, no, they are real. I just throw them in the sheet and then at the bottom. So that obviously, for whatever reason, didn't make the cut. But let's do some honorable mentions.
Starting point is 00:33:46 Yeah, why not? So Audi winning a race. They've not won a race before the summer break. the closest they have come is a whole no border letter p8 so not quite that close but i think i'llie have still been a pretty impressive outfit in terms of their pace their reliability we we know all too well is far too fragile but you would always take that you would always take a car that is fast but breaks down over a car that you don't know how to make quicker but it always finishes. In terms of performance,
Starting point is 00:34:19 Audi shouldn't be eighth in the constructors. They're not the eighth best car this season, certainly not. Behind Hasse as well, when you think of like their two seasons. Huss so fast out the blocks. They've got nearly like half the points of Hasse, which is, you know,
Starting point is 00:34:34 just over half the points. Nowhere near someone like Alpine when Audi are probably ahead of them. The problem is Audi were like the whole meme of them finishing 11th is so true that they've been like the six best car for the whole season and they've been the six best car when alpine was the fifth best car
Starting point is 00:34:52 they've been the sixth best car when racing balls were the fifth best car they've been the sixth best car when haths were the sixth best car and they're just always there because i don't think they've fallen really anything lower than like a 13th place or something this this season uh so yeah unless they've retired yeah so so you've never there's never been a race where they're just horrendously bad, like a Hass or an Alpine, and then next week they're doing really well.
Starting point is 00:35:20 They've just been consistently decent. But you never know some upgrades. And I think you do still need to commend them that they've arrived as a team that were salber and built their own power unit and everything and gone into as much... Sneasing fit. Yeah, they've done a really solid job.
Starting point is 00:35:48 Between Borsoleto and Holcombow, they've had six 11th place finishes. So that just tells you everything you need to know about what Tommy was just saying. And then the final one, which might well be as off the mark as the Aston Martins, is from P1-Petri-Remember Jen that said 2026 is Lawson's final year in Formula One. All right. Still could be. New Zealand, Lawson Army. I need you to spawn in the comments and tell Jen just how.
Starting point is 00:36:14 wrong she is. It's not slat her own patron. No, I know. I know. But I mean, to be fair, we've discussed it, haven't we? In the driver transfers. Solov replaces him and it's the most unfair dropping of all time. Yeah, to be fair. She could be right.
Starting point is 00:36:30 Jen, you might have cut. Especially now that I've said that you're wrong, this is 100% coming true. So well done, Jen. Great prediction. But as you say, a very unfair one if it and an unjust one, if that does happen, Lawson ninth in the championship with 43 points. one point ahead of Pierre Gasly. He scored in every single race bar three
Starting point is 00:36:47 and has had a great season. So if driver transfer luck does not fall his way, it would be really harsh. You remember when Ockon lost his seat and had his little blue bag over his shoulder and walking out the paddock and we were all feeling so sorry for him, I think this would be a similar one, if not more,
Starting point is 00:37:05 considering what Lawson is currently putting down. And if you can get any words out now, Tommy, in this podcast, let's see. true uh yeah he's he's having an amazing season he's certainly delivered the when we did our 27 predictions if you've not seen them obviously i i predicted that he could still lose his seat because solov is leading the f2 championship and i don't think it would be fair on lorson i don't believe that you know my prediction is not what i think is fair it's just red bull do these sort of things even though Home at Marcos left now.
Starting point is 00:37:43 So this could be a prediction that gets included in the worst predictions that we've seen, and then we get to the end of the season and do the best predictions from January. And we include this one from Jen when Lawson's maybe been unfairly dropped. Do we know that Red Bull do this now? Because, of course, Marco left at the end of last year. So how do we know whether they're cut through anymore? Exactly. Maybe they're not.
Starting point is 00:38:08 So let's see. Maybe Red Bull have now turned a new page now that they are free from Helmut Marco. Okay, that is it. Lots of predictions, lots of things. Of course, we're only teasing. We're only having a bit of fun. If you were one of these people that got it really wrong with the Lonsa being world champion, don't worry.
Starting point is 00:38:25 We're wrong on a weekly basis. It doesn't matter. And you know what? It could still come true because we're only going to halfway through the season. Matt says Charlotte Claire's going to be world champion every and it never happens. So think about that. Well, no, actually, I say it before preseason testing. And after preseason testing, I don't think I ever predict Charlotte.
Starting point is 00:38:42 Clair world champion because I see Ferrari actually on the track. But look, Charlotte Claire is still within a shout mathematically of winning the world championship. He is 781 points behind. Okay, that's bigger than it was before. So that's great. So not even in the 70s anymore. But anyway, Stranger Things haven't happened. Charlotte is not winning.
Starting point is 00:39:04 Thank you for tuning in. Of course, we've got a couple of weeks till Zambort. We've got our Amsterdam show coming up in a matter of about a week and a half. So if you haven't got your P1 live show tickets for the UK side tour at the end of the year, November, go get them. As we have said, if you haven't heard, we are not touring next year, the P1 Live show, unless we do something at tracks, whatever, but that will be different. I'm too much of a diva. I've been destroying too many, like, hotel rooms and green rooms that they don't want to allow us back. Because, well, really, okay, I thought that would happen after Max's not winning a,
Starting point is 00:39:36 race this season. I thought that would be when you would start throwing things when we start taking the Mickey out of you, not getting a win with Max. But go get your tickets. There'll be a link in the description and we will see you very soon. Lots of love. Bye. Goodbye.
Starting point is 00:39:52 Tommy managed a goodbye. Well done. Goodbye. Great voice. Great voice. P1 is a Stack production and part of the Acast's creator network.
