Starting point is 00:00:05 Hello everybody and welcome back to the P1 podcast with Matt and Tommy. New track alert. New track alert. The sirens are here and it is very exciting indeed to see it in the flesh. Isn't it, Tommy? In real life. They built it. It's complete.
Starting point is 00:00:25 The whole rumours leading up to it was it's not going to be ready here. It's not going to be ready there. I have seen some weird pictures of people having to sit on like literal gravel where GA is supposed to. to be, but we won't talk about that right now. We'll talk about the circuit because that is done and we saw some action today. We did. Yeah, the circuit did exist. We saw it a lot of rumours suggesting that it wouldn't be ready on time, but we're here racing. And my word, yeah, it was the Trek Evolution Day, very much so, wasn't it?
Starting point is 00:00:55 Oh, Trek Evolution Day, absolutely. Maybe that should be a day. Right, so before we get into everything Spanish Grand Prix related and Madrid, the new circuit, We need to do a bit of a news update because there's been some rather large quotes things spoken about after Monza first and foremost about the team that I am currently wearing and Charlotte Clare admitting that he could have done better
Starting point is 00:01:19 in the Lewis Hamilton incident at turn to lap one. Yeah, everybody. The teachers told him off and then he said, yeah, probably was me. I mean, I am sure, because they were clear the air talks, Hamilton's saying there's no bad feeling now. things like that, you know, we're all moving forward. But I can also imagine that Ferrari would have done some stepping in.
Starting point is 00:01:39 We were speaking about before, won't we, Tommy, how the higher powers may well have had a little word with their drivers to make sure that they play nicely, especially at their home race. And what has come of it is Charlotte Claire in the media saying, yes, I will take it on board and I'll do better next time. Yeah, it needed to happen, didn't it? They needed to have a discussion about it, because obviously it got very messy last time out.
Starting point is 00:02:06 The quotes that we didn't kind of cover in the podcast all too much as well was we heard Charler-Clair kind of saying, oh yeah, we both should have done better. And then Hamilton pretty much did the breaking bad quote of Wee, who's We? By saying that, you know, he was ahead. So, yeah, they've cleared the air. And so much so you could tell.
Starting point is 00:02:29 We'll discuss this moment later, but there was a moment in a FP1 where a team radio happened that very much screamed, this is not what I really think, but I'm thinking about what's happened before and I'm going to be broadcast, so I
Starting point is 00:02:45 will be careful what I say. Absolutely. Before we get into all of that, of course we are still pre-weekend at the moment. Charles LeCler, well, it's not pre-weekend, it was today what we saw, is the fact that he is running an old spec engine as far as what we've been told in commentary and so forth
Starting point is 00:03:04 is the fact that basically the big crash in Monza they're going to roll that out in free practice one Baku to see if it works or not and therefore for this weekend so that they don't take a penalty because it's not going to be an easy track to overtake instead look like I'll be running Adjuo 1 engine which I would be more upset about
Starting point is 00:03:26 if it actually brought anything particular of advantage to the AdjuO2 because Ollie Bearman's come out and said that the engine's not really done a huge amount so I really don't see it maybe affecting LeClair all too much this weekend but it will be my sole excuse
Starting point is 00:03:45 should he be slower than Hamilton this weekend for sure yeah look forward to an extra five points in drive ratings because of the oh yeah 100% yeah you only can get up to sixth gear it is not a power track is it so of all the places you want this to to happen and yeah they'll obviously test it in Baku hope it all goes to plan but it's a sensible choice for Ferrari obviously there'll be maybe some slight advantage but it didn't um this is the circuit that you kind of
Starting point is 00:04:18 want to do it because as we kind of mentioned it's very tight and twisty you know we're not we're not seeing what we were seeing at Monza, for example, very, very, very different circuit. Yeah, I mean, it's not Monza, but I also wouldn't say it's Monaco either. I think it's somewhere, it sits somewhere in the middle because there are a lot of medium speed to high speed corners around here. And I would say it's quite fast and ferocious this track. There are, of course, some fiddly parts. There's parts that remind me of Sochi.
Starting point is 00:04:46 It's Jedda Sochi. Yeah, Jeddah Sochi. So as I said, when we review this in driver ratings, there will be a two-per- point cushion for Charlotte. Oh, better to be fair, it's his own doing, because he crashed. So another thing to mention, which was on the run-up, maybe today, was it this morning? He was today, yeah. Run up to Free Practice 1 anyway.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Mohammed bin Saliam making some of the most insane remarks I think I've ever seen an FIA president do, and that's saying something because there have been many moments where we've questioned the president. So what he has done And honestly, I had to check if this was AI, fake, or anything else in between. But he has said that he's worried about Alonzo leaving Formula One and cannot leave. He cannot leave. So Fernando cannot leave due to the performance.
Starting point is 00:05:40 So this was the quote. I met with Lawrence yesterday and we'll talk to him today to get him to change his mind. We can't afford for him to retire under these circumstances. He has to stay, win. and then he can leave whenever he wants. I saw him very sad, and I said, tell me what we need to do to improve the performance. We made changes, legal ones in May.
Starting point is 00:06:02 I love how he said legal ones. Like, guys, this was fair for everybody else as well, I promise, so that the team and the engine could improve. This is utterly remarkable. It's bizarre. I can't believe I'm reading this. we've seen FIA presidents like Bernie Eccleston was famous for it of like pulling strings in in Formula One and being a bit of a ringmaster But tell everyone about it they're doing well sometimes
Starting point is 00:06:31 And for this one yeah he was obviously he was at some kind of Forum addressing economy something new economy forum I think it was called where he was addressing people in Spain and obviously probably to kind of be liked maybe or this kind of thing I don't know if him
Starting point is 00:06:56 The 10 sustainable fuels and everything else telling all these people in Spain being like I know we're here and Alonzo's not winning the championship like we all thought but don't worry I'm working on it it gave that kind of vibe but the quotes were so insane
Starting point is 00:07:11 that I saw a lot of Fernando Alonzo fans making jokes on Twitter about we've had SpyGate, we've had CrashGate, now it's FIA Gate, Alonzo's getting his third with FIA gate as MBS changes the entire sport to make sure Alonzo wins before it retires.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Maybe everybody will have to run a Honda engine next year. And look, after seeing these quotes, my bold prediction of Alonzo podium by the end of the year is looking a little bit good now, I'm not going to lie to you, maybe not this year. So yeah, that was utterly just fascinating to read as something that genuinely wasn't fiction. Ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:07:54 When Alonzo says, I will make my mind up in Abu Dhabi, and we get announced that we're using the F2 Mecca Chrome engine or something in all the cars for Abu Dhabi so Alonzo can have equal cars and a chance, we'll know. No, I think what they'll do is the Carlos Sines joky idea he had about everybody having a go and everybody else's car. So maybe that's how Alonzo gets a word. win. Anyway, that's enough of the news and bits and bobs. We wanted to keep you up to date on. And go to a question from B1 Patreon member, Captain Oves 3420. Your honest thoughts on the track,
Starting point is 00:08:29 I have never seen a circuit more quality and not race-ready. Race coded, yeah. Coded than this, than Madrid. I think qualifying will be excellent to watch. I want on boards all the time. Please. Just that's all I need. I don't need drones. I don't need aerial shots. Just give me on boards. Because it, because it's awesome to watch. I found it utterly fascinating to see the progression of the drivers as they went from the first lap turned in Free Practice 1 all the way through to the final lap of Free Practice 2. You can see the confidence building. And to watch them around this circuit, I think is great. You know, you've got the undulation. You've got the insane banking, which isn't even just a straightforward banking. Yeah, Saturday is going to be really, really good. I don't think we're going to get much overtaking on Sunday. I think this is a, if we get a random red flag when strategies are a little bit out of sync or we get a few people towards the front that don't belong there, then it could be a very,
Starting point is 00:09:39 very exciting thing to watch. Like, I honestly don't see, if it's just the front runners, I don't see how they're going to overtake each other. That's my first thoughts of it Nothing to take away from the exhilaration we'll feel on Saturday But I really don't know how Sunday is going to play out If we get a normal race If we get random safety cars and everything else
Starting point is 00:10:00 And a reverse grid because it randomly rains on Saturday Or they want to help Alonso Yeah or maybe yeah That will be like just a rule brought in When Alonzo starts on pole And we'll probably lose out by term one But that's my thinking Yeah, I completely agree on the sense that qualifying it looks, it looks really fun to watch the cars on board, which is not something we've said a lot this season, of course.
Starting point is 00:10:24 And it's cool to be able to watch the roller coaster. It feels like Jedder again when you first went to Jedder, and it was like, oh, wow, this track is crazy. You know, high-speed corners flowing up and down. they are really, really, really trying to make that Le Monumental corner a big thing. They are mentioning that all the time, which I'm not against. Like, it's cool for a circuit to have a signature corner, particularly love that it's got a name as well. And, yeah, it's a really cool track to watch. The racing concerns are there definitely in the fact that we saw a little bit of,
Starting point is 00:11:08 there was a moment towards the end of FP2 where LeCleur was behind Perez and obviously that Ferrari despite LeCler with that old engine as you say is going to be quicker than that Cadillac but you can't really do anything if you're stuck behind someone
Starting point is 00:11:25 and I think that's going to be fascinating when people come out of the pits for example if you get stuck in traffic you've got to wait till you get into the Sochi section of this Jeddah Sochi that we've now dubbed to be able to actually overtake where it kind of opens up a bit more
Starting point is 00:11:41 in the kind of final and first part of the lap. So yeah, it's still fun, the intrigue of the circuit. And as you say, the track evolution was absolutely bonkers. Formula One actually posted a graphic about it. And as we predicted, no prizes for guessing that the first fastest time
Starting point is 00:12:03 was done by Max Verstappen, who did a 139.2. and then George did it have won 34.0 by the end of the session less than an hour later. So crazy track evolution. I think it's a combination. It's track evolution. It's also driver evolution.
Starting point is 00:12:19 You can see them. They were very much driving around tentatively and going, okay, this is what, okay, so it was a left hander here on the sim, then it's a right-hander. They're genuinely learning on the job, and that's what I found really exciting to watch.
Starting point is 00:12:31 And in terms of track evolution between sessions, probably one of the smallest, because it was only four-tenths that Antoneli went quick, in free practice two than he did in than Russell did in free practice one because I think I remember actually Ocon saying quite early into FP1
Starting point is 00:12:46 that the track was quite high grip so in terms of the actual circuit you know we've seen circuits in the past that are very very dusty and really really tough at least they they've got and can build some confidence with the fact that the track surfacing isn't like a turkey slippery all kinds of stuff
Starting point is 00:13:04 obviously it was a bit wet that that weekend so yeah Circuit, we'll see. I think that having low expectations for Sunday is a good thing. Yeah, I agree. Because then we can be surprised. Take up an example. Indeed.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Right, should we get into the actual session? I think we should. Free Practice 1! The top three were Russell, Antonelli and LeCleur. And not a single red flag was seen in Free Practice 1, where we were having all kinds of concerns, almost negativity around this circuit and how it may well produce some big incidents and maybe it's not ready and the track layout and lots of chatter.
Starting point is 00:13:45 But yeah, there wasn't a single crashing free practice one. Of course, we'll get on to FP2. But also, I will say that the concerns were valid because F2, they were having a few big ones. Well, someone was backwards and on fire immediately in the session and that's exactly what people were kind of, everyone went into this weekend thinking this is going to be absolute carnage. It's a car breaker. I read things like a Formula 3 car, even damaged its front wing because it was jumping over the bumps. And then when you see a Formula 2 car go backwards into a corner set on fire,
Starting point is 00:14:26 we're thinking, ah, this is going to be utter carnage. And the Formula 1 drivers were all very well behaved, has to be said. part of that. And their Formula One drivers for a reason as well. Exactly. Let's give them their credit. They are the best in the world. Well, we're, we're looking at the drivers on the grid.
Starting point is 00:14:41 They are the best in the world. And, you know, we're looking at the drivers probably, they know how to push the limits as well, as you were saying, with the fact that it's not just the track evolution. It's that they know to, like, wind up and you can't win a Formula One Grand Prix by being practiced in FP1. Sorry, Charlotte Claire. But the, um, had to. but the didn't see that coming yeah
Starting point is 00:15:05 but the thing is with the practice sessions they were just like winding themselves up because there's no point going absolutely crazy because you can see
Starting point is 00:15:16 how punishing the track was mainly thanks to Formula 2 there are a couple of close moments but nothing nothing major I'd say in FP1 of course indeed I'm so British
Starting point is 00:15:28 the way you were like they're winding themselves up I'm like why are they getting angry to me sorry if that's a thing straight to my head right let's get into a question from laner photography
Starting point is 00:15:40 dot f11-481 will this be a bad track for impeding seems to be a lot so far yes I think it will you know as we mentioned the middle sector was quite a lot
Starting point is 00:15:53 we saw a lot of impeding we saw Saints in Hamilton Holcomberg in Hamilton McLaren Hamilton Senoda in Hamilton can we can we please
Starting point is 00:16:04 in a light-hearted way talk about Hamilton and practice impeding because one of the great one of if not the greatest driver of all time in Formula One loves a free practice doodle really does really does
Starting point is 00:16:19 loves to be like dawdling on the racing line and yeah it happened a lot and it did always seem to be Lewis Hamilton there were other people impeding obviously Fernando Alonzo was giving people a thumbs up a lot towards the end Carlos did one going round the banking and throwing his hand up.
Starting point is 00:16:36 That was the one that really was, you know, there was the, that was the, Hamilton. That was Hamilton again, yeah. And Hamilton sort of didn't, I don't think you wanted to get up on the dirt and Carlos went past and it was very close at very high speed.
Starting point is 00:16:52 And yeah, there is going to be a lot of impeding, joking aside, you know, there were a lot of other people doing it as well. But this is going to be one of those tracks where, as we mentioned earlier, you don't want to be arriving at the pit lane after your stop in the race
Starting point is 00:17:09 where you need to get past and having to wait half a lap, if not more to get past, or having a poor qualifying because it is going to be very, very difficult to overtake even in this kind of new era of F1 where we see loads of overtakes during the races. And the pit lane itself is absolutely enormous. It's the longest pit lane, yeah. pit lane in Formula One, which is screaming one stop, even if the tires are absolutely cooked.
Starting point is 00:17:38 But let's see. Did you see the video about the, I think it was Kim Ilman did it, about the hospitality and, sorry, the team garages. And like, one, two are inside and then two are outside. And then one is in a different hall. And then, and there was a funny exchange from, I think it was on threads between Red Bull Racing and V-Carb of the two admins chatting. I know. I only saw it. you can tell that I'd only seen it because one screenshot,
Starting point is 00:18:04 I didn't put it on another social platform. But I saw it and it was, yeah, the two admins basically being like, are you inside or outside? I don't know anymore. And they just couldn't find their hospitality and stuff. And yeah, really bizarre layout, very much the quirks of a street circuit, isn't it? Absolutely. So going back to the team radios, going back to the impeding,
Starting point is 00:18:29 yes, I also think that it will be a bad, track. I think Q1 will be crazy. And I think that the top drivers just want to get out of their unscathed without blocking anybody. And you mentioned right at the top of the podcast around LeCleur and Hamilton, or you teased upon it. And a very, very insightful team radio, even if when you read it, you don't really think much into it. But LeCleur basically said, after being impeded by Hamilton, he was on a flying lap. Hamilton was not. basically said let's be careful with
Starting point is 00:19:01 I don't think Lewis knew I was coming that is that that is him starting to talk and then remembering that there are a lot of Lewis Hamilton fans on Twitter and then decided not to continue
Starting point is 00:19:16 well not even just that probably the Ferrari boss is probably everybody right yeah true everything even the first part of that statement with let's be careful with her he's then gone maybe that's too strong maybe I'm coming off too strong so let's be careful
Starting point is 00:19:28 with the traffic. So then said, I don't think Lewis knew I was coming. So yeah, that was a very insightful bit of team radio. You know, Charles just being a good boy, he's like,
Starting point is 00:19:37 no, I'm not going to ruffle any feathers. You know, I'm sure there is a perfectly logical reason as to why I've just been held up by my team, mate. Yes, and we'll remember that when they're going side by side
Starting point is 00:19:48 through the banking during the race on that one. Yep. Can't wait for that. Free practice two. Top three, Antonelli, Lecler and Hamilton. And this is where we did have a crash in free practice too,
Starting point is 00:20:02 and it was the only crash, Arvid Limblad, who caused a red flag. And he basically, I don't know the corner number yet. We're still learning up here. A nice degree left-hander, and he's thrown it in there, and the car has gone. But the second he's tried to turn the car in, I think it was an additional lap to his flying lap runs,
Starting point is 00:20:25 so his soft tires clearly screaming out for help a little bit. and he sadly sort of learnt the hard way how this Madrid circuit can bite you back because he went flying into the wall, quite a bit of damage actually, especially on the rear of the car, which made me concerned slightly for his gearbox and an engine. But up until that point, more of a positive note, Arvid was absolutely flying.
Starting point is 00:20:48 He was cooking like no tomorrow in that V-carb. And again, like 2026 Formula One of having to adjust your brains of like, okay, so team. Teams will deploy their energy in other parts of the circuit. Arvid Lindblad absolutely loved a Purple Sector 1. Yeah, give me a Purple Sector one every single time. Through the middle sector. Oh, I'm two tenths up on Antonelli.
Starting point is 00:21:10 And then he'll proceed to lose five or six tenths in the final sector. But it's again like that, whoa, is Arvig going to get pole? Are we going to have a Ghazley pole and then a Lindblad pole? That's the kind of things I'm thinking about when I'm watching these practice sessions. Because, yeah, it's such a tale of not two halves, but three thirds. because... A tale of three thirds. There you go.
Starting point is 00:21:31 You can coin that one. Because of the way they deploy their energy. It is. It's a shame for Limblad because, yeah, he was looking really, really strong, very fast, as you say, putting in purple sectors quite a lot during the session as well. And still, yeah, ended up fourth overall, which is very impressive. Hopefully for him, there's no worries about, you know, grid penalties or anything, or maybe they can put in old parts and be fine.
Starting point is 00:21:57 But hopefully for him, it's... not caused any issues for later because I do think he's got a big opportunity and Sonoda up in eighth as well kind of suggests that the V-cab are looking very good around here which is no surprise with their very solid car that's not easy to drive but well according to match Sappen it's easy to drive and but you got to go into that now you can't just be dropping that yeah you the the quote from Max was kind of alluding to the fact that that the cars are a lot easier to drive this year because they don't take as much driver input and basically saying you could tell because Sonoda's come straight into the V-carb and is
Starting point is 00:22:37 obviously doing really well whereas normally you'd take a bit of time. Yeah, saying Sonoda has got up to speed in the V-carb, that Lawson's got up to speed in the Red Bull and basically saying that the car is numb to your inputs and things like that. Yeah, very heavy on the 2026 cars once again, Max has been. But back to Arvid, there's a question from P-1 patron member Ella Ray. This was Arvid's first crash this year as a rookie. Should he be receiving more recognition for how well he is performing this year? Yes, and I've been saying this constantly.
Starting point is 00:23:12 You have. That Arvid Limblad has been doing a phenomenal job. I gave him a 10 out of 10 in Canada, even though he burnt out his clutch. Then obviously I changed it when I realised that part. But yeah, Limblad has been really, really good. So consistent. And yeah, this crash for him is, of course, his first. his first one, which is mad to think,
Starting point is 00:23:30 considering how high he's been running and how hard he's been pushing his car. I am interested to see how he bounces back this weekend. It's a part of his Formula One career that we haven't seen yet of how he's able to rebound from a setback. It's going to knock your confidence, going into that same corner.
Starting point is 00:23:48 You have to be able to look past it. I always think back to Carlos Sines in the interview we had with him about how do you mentally get past the fact of crashing at a certain corner and he basically said like well I have to think about the amount of times I haven't crashed to that corner
Starting point is 00:24:04 and I just found that sort of mentality fascinating and I think for Limblad he's going to have to demonstrate that as we move into tomorrow and qualifying where he's going to be putting that V-carb within centimetres of the wall so interested to see if he's able to bounce back make Q3 I've just remembered actually that I said that V-carb wouldn't make
Starting point is 00:24:24 the top 10 in quality or the race So actually, Arvid, if you wouldn't mind just not getting into the top 10. So we can talk about that. And block your team main qualifying as well. Yeah, and more importantly, just give me a point. Thank you. It seems strange from this question to basically, yeah, like gas at Arvid up a bit for when he's, during the session he's crashed. But it's true.
Starting point is 00:24:50 And we've said it many times before how impressive he's been this year. doing a really good job as a rookie as the only rookie on the grid there was a very funny Instagram posts so I think V-Cab put it up where he got an award for rookie of the year and they were kind of joking of him going oh well done mate do you think you're going to do all right
Starting point is 00:25:12 and he's like yeah I've worked really hard this year hopefully I win the award and then yeah he got it was that just V-Cab socials was it yeah it just made me now think of the Red Bull thing and the high five that they tried to give Lawson and then walk past him. That was utterly savage. If you haven't seen it, they are continuing this trend of just... Rage-baiting Lawson, even there he's not in the team. And speaking of Lawson,
Starting point is 00:25:37 correct me if I'm wrong, this is now the longest sort of spell he's ever had with Red Bull, which is quite a thing to think about, isn't it? Yeah, that is, yeah, that's something. That's all I'm going to say, that is something from what happened last year. I don't know how to formulate my thoughts on it, but it is factual information. I'm proud of Red Bull for giving him three races. But yes, we will keep an eye on that because he was saying the car was very difficult to drive today. And this will be a track that really exposes a lack of confidence in the car. So I'll be fascinated to see how close for Stappan and Lawson are over Quali in the race as well,
Starting point is 00:26:19 because this one could be one where Max is able to stretch his legs a little bit. but we will see. Another question. F1 sushi. Could missing out on an entire session put Lando at a disadvantage for the rest of the weekend? What a shame. I thought we were over this. I thought we were over Lando Norris and his car problems.
Starting point is 00:26:39 You know, it was the running joke at the start of the season where he couldn't have a single race week without issues and it played to the start of the season. and now it's happening again, didn't do any running at all in FP2. It was, yeah. So there's two sides to it. One is, at least it's not at the start of the season, and they've kind of starting to learn the cars a little bit more, so hopefully it doesn't affect him as much as maybe the start of the season
Starting point is 00:27:13 when it very much felt like people were still trying to work out the manuals of these 2026 cars and how on earth. they actually work. But then the other side of it is the fact that if it's going to happen anyway, you don't want it to be happening at a new track when you want to be getting as much information as possible, as much data and as much practice out there. So I think it will put him on the back foot,
Starting point is 00:27:36 which is very unfortunate because I predicted him to win. And every time I do so, he has a mayor. So sorry, Landau fans. And I predicted him for polls, so we're both screwed. Yeah, this will put him on the back foot, but I'm also not counting him out of having a great weekend even at this point. This is the worst possible time to miss an hour's worth of practice at a track that you've never driven before in real life. But that's not to say that he won't be able to lock in for free practice three.
Starting point is 00:28:06 If it was a sprint weekend and he missed FP1, then yeah, game over. Cheers, you know, good luck. But for this, he's got another hour for free practice three. Oscar, of course, did lots of running today in the other McLaren. so there will still be data to be had. So realistically, you know, I'm not going to start ringing the alarm bells just yet. It just depends if he can have, if that's it, if that's the only Gremlin he has and it's free practice two, he'll take it.
Starting point is 00:28:31 And I think he'll be able to be right on the pace come qualifying. But it will be a more difficult task because he's going to have to, yeah, do the normal free practice three runs of dialing in for quality, but also getting a feel for high fuel stuff as well which he missed out on as well today so um it's hard to know where mcclaren are as well isn't at the the moment it feels like you know it's been a trend this year of Ferrari being very very good on a Friday whether that still continues into Saturday who knows anymore but mcclaren haven't really shown their hand and same with match for stappen as well he had a very slight to track limits by the tiniest margin when he was improving and stuff.
Starting point is 00:29:16 So yeah, I wouldn't count McLaren and Max out based on what we've seen, but they've been kind of very anonymous. It has very much been Mercedes and Ferrari on Friday. Absolutely, yes. We're trying to learn not to be baited by it. Yeah, I have not said the words Ferrari are looking reasonably strong yet, but now it's come out my mouth. But yeah, I feel like Mercedes,
Starting point is 00:29:41 clearly have the edge. You know, they've topped both of the sessions, and we'll see when we get to tomorrow, but Mercedes should have a really good opportunity to even maybe lock out the front row for, I can't even remember the last time they did that. But yeah, Ferrari are in there. It just really depends on that step,
Starting point is 00:29:57 as we've seen many times that Ferrari haven't been able to take, and other teams have. Let's got a question from Linsby 1000. How many DNFs do you think they'll be? Oh, how many D. Honestly, you could have just the top 10 finishing or you could have all 22. It could go one of two ways.
Starting point is 00:30:17 I think that we will get a few DNFs. I think racing around here will be chaotic in those first few laps. And that's obviously the biggest chance that we'll have to see some actual on-track collisions. Let's go with four. I'm going to go for two. I really can see it being a case where and especially what I'd seen in FP1 I was thinking this might actually happen
Starting point is 00:30:50 my theories of this could be utter carnage it's going to be absolutely crazy and then you remember that the Formula 1 drives are a lot more sensible particularly than F2 drivers that I think there's about four crashes I think in F2 qualifying and of course they're going to be put that's when they're pushing the limits.
Starting point is 00:31:09 You know, this will be famous last words and we'll have another back-use situation where we'll get five red flags. And when everyone's actually on the limit, maybe, you know, we'll see it more because we've, there have been a few sketchy moments,
Starting point is 00:31:25 I think, going into corners. And again, forgive me, because I'm still trying to learn this track, but there's a corner that really does remind me of Sochi, where they kind of break. second.
Starting point is 00:31:38 They kind of break into a blind corner and it really does remind me of such. It's the one where Charlotte Claire, an exaggeration, say, nearly went into the wall, but he went really deep into that runoff. It's quite a short runoff and they go into a blind right-hander and there's a wall right in front of them. Yeah, yeah, that's it. Yeah, so you've seen a few drivers kind of lock up there and I think a mistake there, you're pushing harder. It would be very easy to go into that wall with a lot of short runoff as well.
Starting point is 00:32:11 Equally turn five as well that I mentioned when we're doing predictions that is a lot slower than the Formula One game as expected, but also very, very clumsy as I thought it would be. Almost Singapore sling-esque, but not as extreme, where kind of feels like they could just get rid of it. Yeah. So the Leclerc corner was turn 17. So that is one to keep an eye on the X Ferrari.
Starting point is 00:32:41 We're locking up there all the time. It wasn't just LeClove and the Shalda, go off quite a few times. But, yeah, there are a few clumsy corners. The curbs are quite high and you can just see the slow-mo of, like, properly attacking it and then the car settling. Apart from one that's flat. There's a flat curb, which is like, why is there even a curb then? It's just painted.
Starting point is 00:33:03 Oh, is that where they run very much? much over it pretty much. Yeah. It's one of the fast right handers, if I recall. Yeah, it's a bizarre circuit. It's one that I think will be amazing to watch tomorrow. So you better, all of you, tune in to our watch along tomorrow, Twitch and YouTube, because we're going to have a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:33:23 I can't wait to see just how much the drivers risk it around here because I think quality positions will mean a lot more than we saw in Monza. Let's put it that way. Tommy, final thoughts? Final thoughts? bring on quality because I think it's going to be very much a different ball game, wheel game, different wheel game than what we saw because there's nothing too much on the line here when we see them pushing and really going for it. And I think a lot of drivers have said that this
Starting point is 00:33:54 is a circuit where you can really gain a lot of time from being quite brave. We should make qualifying very, very exciting and all about risk, which which is what is really cool to see and what quality is all about. So bring it up. Exactly. And one final parting message about the prospects for Sunday is the fact I'm looking at the track map and there are two straight mode zones into turn one
Starting point is 00:34:20 and then out of turn three. And I don't see an overtake in neither of those parts of the tracks. Because neither of them are actually heavy, heavy breaking zones. Like one and two is okay, but then you've got the rest. really fiddly. And also, 5A, what are we doing? Why have we got A for parts of corners now? We have 5A and 6. And there is definitely another point in the circuit as well that they've put A, which has not been updated in this track map. Oh no, yeah. Yeah, 20 and then 20A. What are we doing? Are we giving Austria the A bits as well because they give corner numbers. Yeah, you can tell Maitagip
Starting point is 00:34:59 don't race here because they don't have to name random. They can just do what they're. Just don't name the tiny kinks. How about that? How about we just name corners without the corners? All right, anyway, that's another topic for another day. We will see you tomorrow from qualifying. Lots of love. Bye.
