Hello everybody and welcome back.
P-1 podcast with Man Tommy.
It's Valentine's Day, which can only mean one thing.
Ferrari launching their car.
Love is in the air.
I have not stopped smiling from the moment the Ferrari car launch started to the ending,
which has just been pretty much five minutes ago.
Welcome Tommy, the co-founder of the P1 Dream.
and I am just basking in the glory of seeing,
seeing on track the championship winning car of 2023.
It's Valentine's Day and I think I've fallen in love with Ferrari because, oh my word.
You don't get to, no, you don't come anywhere near us, all right?
You've chosen Max, you've chosen Red Bull.
Don't you dare?
Don't you dare do this?
No, well, of course I'm still supporting Max, but that was, I am hyped.
You know, I'm quite the chill.
one, but just that launch was incredible. The car looks amazing and I'm buzzing. It really does feel
like the season started. Well done, Ferrari. Yeah, I think we're going to talk about the car launch first,
actually. We usually talk about the livery in the car, but I feel like the car launch needs a solid
segment of us chatting, just purely because I think we both kind of agreed live on Twitch,
Matt P1, Tommy, if you haven't followed us already, that it was not only the best car launch of
the year, but potentially the best car launch that's ever happened. They did a live shakedown
of the 2023 car around Fiorano. Now, if you actually think about the amount of complications
that could have gone on for this to happen, one of which, but...
Especially as you imagine, right? Especially as you say, it being Ferrari, that they went out and
broke down within those two laps that Shal did. Can you imagine, like smoke coming out the back or something,
although I'm slightly concerned that Carlos didn't get his three laps,
which maybe something was going on in that garage when he came back
because I'm pretty sure they were supposed to swap over.
But that was a brilliant car launch.
You had chat with the drivers.
You had a grandstand full of fans with the passion of the Defosi there.
They were chanting away, having a great time.
We heard from Fred Fassur.
Obviously, we heard from some of the Ferrari development drivers as well, which was nice.
And then we wrapped it up by seeing the car on track.
Could they have done anything better?
I don't think so.
No, we were applauding McLaren yesterday.
Yeah, it was yesterday.
Losing track of time, I'm so excited.
The applauding McLaren yesterday that they did their launch and they didn't, you know,
spend ages talking to irrelevant people.
They got the drivers out, got the team principal out, had a chat and launched the car.
Ferrari did the same thing, but then just took it to a whole new level.
Because at the end of the day, Formula One fans, the most,
exciting thing is when we see an F1 car on track again.
We've had the whole winter break.
We've been waiting to see a Formula One car on track.
And to have them do that during the launch, that's perfect.
It was, I actually like got goosebumps.
And it was just like, this is so good.
Absolutely buzzing.
And it takes a lot to get me buzzing, you know, so.
I know, you wouldn't actually maybe think that Tom is buzzing.
Because, I mean, the fact that he's, you know, bit bouncy, bit smiley.
That's basically Tommy in 11 out of 10 buzz right now.
I still can't stop smiling.
And not only is it the car launch, but also the car as well.
It is sex on wheels.
I think that there's one tweak of maybe a little bit too much black on the rear fin.
And also, as I look at the side-on angle, maybe I'm not massively a big fan of the saver C-E-V-A or C-V-V-E-V-Lac-Lac cut out there.
I think that kind of ruins the flow a little bit.
which I didn't actually notice when the car went out.
But that being said, it's still a very sexy car.
Ferrari has to do something very drastically wrong for it to be not sexy.
They've done it before.
True, but it is a very, very nice car.
And I am a big fan.
Yeah, I'm a massive fan.
I said, no word of alive.
You joined us on Twitch chat.
Are you here now?
when we were waiting for the car reveal, I said what I wanted, keep it exactly the same
and put the Ferrari old school Ferrari logo on the rear wing like we saw at Monza.
And pretty much that is exactly what they've done.
Yeah, a little bit on the side that I'm not hugely a fan of,
but it's kind of like a little bug bear when you, I mean, the front angle is perfection.
It's just, it's what we said this last.
year, the Ferrari just needs to be simple and beautiful, which is exactly what it is, but they've
just like put the cherry on top with that Ferrari on the rear wing. It is so good. I absolutely
love it. It's what a car. What a car. What a launch. Of course, we heard from Fred Vassure,
who, you know, it's good to hear from him. Bit weird seeing him in a Ferrari shirt, wasn't it?
It's still an adjustment phase for me to see him the team principal of Ferrari.
But he says he doesn't really care who wins out of the two drivers.
I'm like, I've seen your pictures with Shal.
I feel like you're a little bit of a fanboy of Shal.
Come on.
As long as Shal is treated fairly and doesn't get hard ties and hungry
and intermediates in Brazil qualifying, I'm going to be very happy.
And I don't know.
I just feel like I'm relived.
I am healed from last year now.
I'm ready to get hurt again.
Like I am whole right now.
I am 100% healthy.
But let's see what round one has to bring.
It has to offer.
Please be fast.
All those things that happened last year.
And here we are.
Start the new season.
It's just like last season again.
All the hope.
All the expectation.
It's like it never happened.
But yeah, Versa's got a lot of,
a lot of pressure on him, but at the same time,
at the moment, he looked very, you know, he looked chilled.
He looked like he was there, just chatting away.
And yeah, it's going to be, it's going to be fascinating to see if he can get that team
another step forward.
Because Benotto, to be fair to him, you know, he became a bit of a meme.
But realistically, that team did go forward in terms of, you know,
pace, and we've said this before, things like Aston Martin and McLaren should be up there.
But Ferrari, they did it.
The problem, what made it so heartbreaking, is just throwing away so many points with, you know,
you've got this good car.
Why are you messing it up with putting inters on or hard tires on or all these silly things?
I think they sort of, if it's weird how we would have perceived it as fans last year,
For example, if they came out the blocks and they were, you know, breaking down like Rebel did at the start, they had no good results.
But towards the end, they had what they did at the start of the season.
Everyone would be like, oh, what a season from Ferrari.
They finished so strongly and all that sort of stuff.
But because they started really strongly and then tailed off, we now have that different kind of perception.
And I guess that's all recency bias and that sort of stuff.
So the hope that kills you.
Yeah, yeah, it is.
But also the off season has healed.
me and the hope is right to the brim right now.
Let's now, I guess, move on to where do we think they're going to finish this year?
How do we think they're going to do?
Now, you may have seen from the predictions video that we did that in my brain is saying
Mercedes is going to be back, Hamilton's going to win the title, but my heart is still
overpowering and is actually more overpowering now than ever after that car launch, that
shall be a color will be world champion?
there's a part of me that's like, Matt, you are chatting.
Absolute rubbish.
But I have to back it.
I'm wearing a Ferrari T-shirt.
If I don't, I'm just a mug.
Well, I'm a mug anyway.
But I think that I think they could have a really good season.
I'd like to believe in Fred Vassuer and him coming in and being able to whip the team
into shape.
There wasn't too much that they probably had to tweak and make right in terms of strategy
and stuff.
Surely that's possible when other teams can do it.
So I'd like to believe that fundamentally the Ferrari team isn't as flawed as maybe it looks.
And of course, being in the spotlight, as Ferrari were last year, we noticed every single mistake.
I'm waffling.
And I feel like that's a lot of fanboying going on right now.
But in a nutshell, I believe mostly that they're going to do well this year.
I believe in your head going, you do believe that.
You do believe.
keep saying it
yeah
it's a difficult one
because like I said
I think Max is going to win the title
Red Bull
probably win the constructors
and if Mercedes do
you know improve
they could
take that that place
from Ferrari because
it seems harsh to say that
I think Ferrari will finish third
because I think they are going to have a good
car and going to be quick, but I think that just shows that I think it's going to be close at the top.
I mean, look at last year, I don't think Mercedes should have been anywhere near Ferrari's
points tally. That shouldn't have even been a championship battle for P2 in the constructors with the
car Mercedes had at the start of the year and the car that Ferrari had. And you could argue for most
of the season, really, they shouldn't have been close. So I would say that they finished third in the
constructors and but it is going to be close with Mac and I'm sorry Matt because I've been here
saying that I'm now a Ferrari fan because that was incredible but I don't I don't have the hopium
that you do one thing that will be fascinating to see though and we did a poll on Twitch chat is
will Carlos actually step up and be a match for Charle-le-le-clare wasn't it?
Yeah, it was it was almost a 50-50 split so there are people out there that believe in Carlos and
there were moments in the season, especially towards the end of last year, where he was
quicker than Charles. And whether there was a level of motivation that dropped off for
Charles knowing that he couldn't win the world title, I mean, that's a very natural human
reaction, if that is the case. But Carlos did step it up. You cannot deny that. And it'll be
interesting to see how those two match up. The haters that were like, Charles washed after 2021,
were very quickly silenced in 2022. But I think Carlos has had another year to bed into the team.
and personally, he should be able to take a step up,
but it's where Charles will then be.
Will he take a further step up and try and close the gap to Max?
Or has he hit a ceiling at the moment in his career?
It's all to play for it.
We don't know right now.
That's the beauty of Formula One.
We'll have to wait until lights out in Bahrain.
But I'm so excited.
It's been amazing to see this car on track.
Buzing, can't wait to get hurt again.
I'm sure you'll be watching along or listening in your ears
or wherever you are to the pain that will undoubtedly happen.
from round one.
But that is pretty much it, I think, Tommy.
Final thoughts?
Final thoughts is, I know he's technically my rival in this Maxa Stappan versus
Charler-Claer war that we have.
But I will shout out Charleclair because he mentioned P1 and it was clearly us.
It wasn't anything to do with first position.
It clearly was him being a big fan of the channel and all the amazing support you guys have given
and the success of it.
Yeah, absolutely.
He's clearly seen it.
And he's like, I need to shout out P1 because this is awesome.
I think I'll message him later actually and say,
thanks so much for the shoutout, mate.
Really appreciate it.
Can't afford however much that's going to cost us.
So yeah, awesome stuff.
That's actually what I was going to say as well at the end of the podcast.
That's brilliant.
Thank you so much Ferrari for the best car launch this year,
if not ever.
And we'll see you very soon for Mercedes tomorrow, right?
Mercedes?
It is.
I don't know what time it is.
I think it might be early.
Yeah, they probably put the car out at 7 a.m. or something.
They always do that, don't they?
Yeah, they're like,
We're doing a car launch and then they're just pictures of it going around Silverstone at 7am.
And you're like, oh, okay.
Could be an early one then, chat.
So we'll see you very soon.
And thank you everybody as well.
It could be an early one if you are also on podcast or on YouTube.
So thanks so much for watching.
Thanks for the support as always.
Follow us, Matt P1, Tommy, on everywhere.
And we'll see you very soon for another video or podcast or Twitch stream.
Bye.
Bye.
Chat knows it's 9 a.
9 a.m.
9.15.
Is it?
Yeah.
Is it a chat?
So that means the car is going to be out on track at 5am.
Cool.
Good to know.
Bye.
