Everybody and welcome to the P.
With Matt and Tommy.
Yes, we are here.
Oh my goodness me.
It feels like forever since I've spoken terrible opinions since I've heard Tommy be the encyclopedia.
Honestly, it's been...
This felt like the longest time ever.
January was almost felt like a year, to be honest with you.
But we're back.
We're back in your ears.
We're back on your screens.
We've missed you all so much.
We've had loads of messages on social media saying,
where are you, where are you, Tommy?
Come on with the car launches.
Where are you?
Well, we're here.
Relax.
We're back.
We are back.
And we thought we'd do, we are very glad to be back.
And we thought we'd do a little welcome podcast answering a few questions
because we've had safe to say a lot since we left.
Still.
Still.
Even now, right?
Yeah, because it's not been cleared up.
So, fair enough, people still have questions.
So we thought we'd dive into them and just settle any strange conspiracies, hypotheses, hypotheses.
However much we've loved them.
They've been hilarious to read.
Yeah, some of them have been incredible.
But we thought we'd put the record straight.
So let's dive into them.
Wait, I thought you owned WTF One.
So for this one, I never owned WTF One.
never had a stake in it at any point. I was merely a presenter, YouTube guy. Tommy was the social
media king, making all the memes, making all that sweet engagement. Tommy, though, you did own
WTF1 back in the day, but you sold out back in 2016, not now. So people saying, to be fair,
I've not seen many calling you a sellout, but for the ones that have, that was six years ago.
You're a bit late. Seven years ago. Seven years ago. I've seen many people say that we sold it to the
race in 2020 and we've got a fat paycheck and we're now driving off in our Ferraris.
I've been tagged in that blue in La Ferrari picture with the number plate WTF1 so many
times. It's like, mate, I've got a Kia. Not got a Ferrari, I'm afraid. So yeah, people have been
very confused by the timeline of it. To be fair, there's a lot of confusion. It is there somewhere
on the internet. But for those that don't know, I started in 2010. It was kind of a,
meme page. I was doing it solo, you know, the odd bit of help here and there. And yeah, then in
2016, had a conversation with Carl Throttle to kind of make it a big, fancy company and
something exciting. And I jumped at the chance to do it as a full-time job with them. So they
bought it off me. They owned it. And I became like an employee of the company and like managing
things from the content side. So that was the last time I essentially had a piece of the pie.
Yep, the pie has since long gone. But yeah, I think it's worth clarifying what you said there, Tommy,
is that there are a lot of conceptions that we have ridden off into the sunset. We've just been
in Barbados for the last month. No. We left with precisely zero pounds in our pocket when we left.
So that's why this is quite possibly the scariest decision we've ever made.
Actually is the scariest decision we've ever made.
And hopefully people are listening or watching this podcast.
Because if not, I think the job centre is open right now.
So I might have to go after this podcast.
You've not got a baby at least.
I've not got, you're my baby.
But you have just had a baby.
I'm older than you.
You're my baby.
Yeah.
I mean, look, it doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter.
Age is just a number.
But, I mean, Grace is on the scene.
You've sacked it in.
Yeah.
What does Grace have to say about this?
What a great dad, I am.
10 months?
Nine months?
Nine months.
Nine months.
Yeah.
She's almost at the talking stage to tell you that you've made a terrible decision.
Is that right?
Absolutely.
She's like, Dad, what are you doing?
No, it's not a terrible decision.
The thing is, right, it's the scariest thing in the world what we've done.
But it's the right thing and something that we've taken this plunge.
because we wanted to essentially take back control a little bit
and just do what we want to do.
I was sick and tired of calling Tommy the founder.
I wanted to kind of find something.
I did find something.
I'm now what you're going to call me the co-founder, right?
Yeah, you're the co-founder, yeah.
Perfect.
That's so weird to say.
I've downgraded.
You have.
Well, yeah.
No, well, no.
I mean, P1 is definitely not a downgrade.
It is an upgrade.
And we're going to tell you all about it.
We'll tell you all about it a little bit later on.
But yeah, neither of us own WTF1 at the stage of us leaving.
But we are so excited to tell you everything we've got in this P1 venture.
So let's move on to the next question.
Were you both fired?
No, we weren't fired.
We weren't fired from WTF1.
We decided it was time for a new adventure.
We'd done everything we wanted to do with WTF1.
So from my side, we'd hit over a million subscribers on YouTube.
I've done some incredible things over the course of the six years of working there.
But like without any job, right, you just kind of start to think, what next?
Am I forever going to be part of this brand?
Am I going to, you know, be doing memes until I'm 17?
No.
So I've kind of decided a little while ago.
Tommy, you were a bit more recent.
And I remember calling you.
You called me, right?
You messaged me out of the blue and were like, Matt, I think I want to leave.
Just kidding, but not really.
I was like, sorry.
So I rang you and you kind of told me how you were feeling.
And I genuinely believed to the core of my body that you were going to be lowered into your grave full of WTF1 merchandise.
I thought that your last day working there would be the last day on this planet.
But look, you decided as well, enough was.
enough.
You'd done how many years?
12 years?
13 years?
12 years.
Yeah, it's a long time to do the same job.
Yeah, a long time to do the same job.
But yeah, we chose to leave naturally when you're doing the same job for years and years.
However fun, a lot of the things were that we did.
There was other stuff that, to me, got a bit stale and wanted, you know, a new adventure and just no excitement.
I didn't, you know, there's loads of things, didn't feel massively valued for my input and stuff like that.
So there's loads of reasons, but I think the main reason is just that I'm just super excited to do something new.
And going into a new season, doing the same thing that I've been doing 12 years for me, like it felt like it was now or never, like time for a change and get that kind of excitement and enthusiasm back, which obviously we had doing the fun stuff at.
WTF one, like all the watchalongs and having fun with you guys. But yeah, super excited. But no,
we weren't fired despite it kind of looking maybe a little bit like we've been fired,
YouTube videos going out called like when you sec the presenters that went semi-viral,
which I think confused people even more. So for context for that, that was some 2000 subscriber
YouTube channel that I'd never even heard of before that basically made a comparison between
us and top gear and then the fact that they'd made this this misconception that we'd been fired
and sort of based this whole storyline about it. And I think it's nearly got half a million
views. It's absolutely outrageous. But firstly, I mean, I appreciate the kind of words that were
said in that video. It's a great video too far. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, yeah, well played. I think they
gave about 2,000 subs. So doubled in size. Good work. But yeah, it was, um, yeah, just a crazy
sort of time. I think, I don't think the press release helped either, right? Because it said they were in need
of a refresh and that in itself caused a lot of confusion because that wasn't the case.
We had decided to leave, but I guess to save face, they didn't want to say that, you know,
Matt and Tom have sat their jobs in.
We now need to find someone else.
So I can understand from a company side of things why they were trying to lead from the front foot
and make it look like it was their decision.
But at the end of the day, it was a personality led job and people, well, I think a lot of
people either saw straight through it or were like, why would you get rid of them?
But no, we have decided P1.
There was actually one really funny story that I saw of all these crazy theories
that during the end of one of the WTF1 podcasts,
towards the end of the year,
Katie mentioned that she wanted to have a beer during the podcast,
and you Matt were like, oh, go on, why not?
Like, you know, end of the year, treat yourself.
And someone thought that me and you had been fired
because we forced Katie to drink on the WTF1 podcast,
and it was really cringy, and the bosses were like,
can't do that. You're fired. So that was one of my favorite theories that I saw that
has been amusing to read some of them. We just want to say we love Katie to bits. There was
no reason why we didn't include her or sort of say anything about her in the goodbye video. It was
the fact that me and Tommy were leaving. So we based it around us leaving as much as that video
has now been deleted. But that's not on us. We didn't delete that. But we love Katie to Bits,
right? We absolutely have loved doing podcasts with her over the last few years.
the whole, I mean, the fact that the podcast has grown to the level it did before we left is kind of testament to how well we just got on, right?
We didn't have anything particularly special about the podcast apart from the fact we were just bouncing around with each other and talking rubbish.
As you can imagine, we're in your ears right now, right?
We are continuing with the podcast, myself, Tommy, and we will get some special guests along the way as well.
So don't you worry, it's going to be a good one, isn't it, Tommy?
Absolutely.
Yeah, just like what you said, I'll echo it that I don't want anyone, to be fair, I didn't
really see anyone say this, but I don't want anyone to think that we left because we just
were fed up with Katie and just couldn't stand her anymore, which is absolutely, of course,
not true.
It would be funny to say that, though, wouldn't it?
That would have caused some serious drama.
Yeah.
Right, let's move on.
Why would you leave your dream job?
This one's an interesting one, and I've thought quite long and hard about this, because I don't
see it as leaving my dream job because of what we're doing now. It wasn't that I was so deeply
in love with the brand WTF1 or anything like that that caused me to enjoy what I did. It was it was you
guys. It was doing watchalongs. It was interacting. It was answering your questions. It was the whole
encompassing part of our job was just interacting with you and sharing my feelings with Formula One and all
that sort of stuff. And that's not changing, right? We're still in the world of Formula One.
We still want to take you on our emotional rollercoaster, probably more so my side than yours, Tommy,
being a Charlotte-Clauer Ferrari fan. So it is weird to say goodbye to something that we've built
over the last six years or 12 years for Tommy. But this is, I cannot tell you, my motivation levels
are so through the roof. Like, I'm voice-mate. I'm voice-mate.
messaging Tommy at 1am going so Tommy what do you think about this one do you think we should
I can't sleep until you're just going to have to get this out no in six years ever I mean
look why would why would you but this I'm so excited but all of the new ideas that we've got and
look it's not leaving a dream job it's if anything moving on to a dream dreamier job dreamier
of yeah because P1 is is first and there's there's nothing there's nothing a
of it. It's all the dream job aspect and then shaking off all the bad stuff. Yeah, because that's the
thing, right? You kind of alluded to it. There was stuff that went on behind the scenes. From my side,
you know, I wouldn't be able to go and just do an opportunity without having it go through a process
and get it approved. Sometimes I'd be allowed to go and do it. Other times I wouldn't be allowed to go
and do it because of business needs.
And I was a bit sick of that,
considering the level of which we'd taken the brand.
So then I was like, no, I don't want any of that anymore.
I want to be my own boss.
Sorry, Tommy.
I mean, kind of, you know, co-bosses.
And decide where and when to go.
And if I want to go chill with Charler on a yacht,
I will.
And Tommy, you can do the podcast with Grace.
She's about to start talking.
In her Ferrari.
She still taught more sense than you.
you. Yeah, exactly. No, that's great to hear that you're already sacking in the podcast for a little
yacht trip with Shal. Come on, you wouldn't take this away from me, would you really? Come on. But no,
hopefully that gives you guys a little bit of an insight. And, you know, having like meetings and
of course, me and Tommy will have meetings, but, you know, it'll be down the pub or, you know,
just a little cheeky chit chat whilst Tommy's feeding Grace or whatever. Like, it's just,
just flexible, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. It's going to be good. Excited.
Bring it on. Bring it on. And hopefully you are listening. Still listening.
Yeah. Still listening. Please. Please. Please. Please subscribe.
So what is P1 with Matt and Tommy? It's everything you've ever dreamed of.
I'm sorry. I don't know why would I say that. But it is loads of podcasts, race reaction content on YouTube, live watchalongs on Twitch and much, much more.
We've got so many new ideas that we want to put in front of you
and hopefully you enjoy it and things like getting messages of,
you know, Matt, Tommy, you were the reason why I got into Formula One.
I want to continue that trend, that road,
because that genuinely warms my heart to know that people are getting into Formula One,
maybe learning about the sport through our stupid, terrible, horrible opinions.
So yeah, we want to take you on an adventure through the Formula One season
where you get to be emotionally involved with me
and hopefully glory, right?
Happiness.
20203 is Ferrari's year.
But then realistically, you'll be on Tommy's,
with Tommy's emotion of Max Mustafa
and winning a third title successively.
But yeah, we just want to be part of the...
Me upset that he's only won 14 races instead of 15.
Shut up.
If that's the case, we might have to disband this very quickly.
But we just want to.
want to be a big F1 family, right?
Because I've said this a few times over the years,
but I never had, never had any friends that,
well, I mean, I could have just ended there,
any friends that liked Formula One.
There was, I had no one to talk to about it,
apart from my dad when I used to watch it with him.
And now we've all got, look all of us.
Genuinely, you are my friends listening to this.
And apart from the ones that say that I have horrendous opinions,
but most of you, I love you to bits.
And that's what we want to continue on.
Yeah, this whole thing is just, yeah, enjoying Formula One.
Like at the end of the day, it's a very weird thing to say,
but it all kind of comes naturally to us because the end of the day,
we're just massive Formula One fans.
A lot of people think that, oh, you know, you have to like plan all this stuff
or you're being over the top, like, you know, you're running out the room,
annoyed because you're annoyed that Charlotte Claire like because you love Formula One and you want
LeClaire to win the championship. We are just passionate Formula One fans that just love the sport and
like enjoying it with you guys. And it's that like that's the reason we love doing it. And yeah,
I'm just looking forward to doing that the amount of people that have message like, where's the
podcast? You guys need to do a podcast. I'm not, you know, my commute is not the same without you guys.
That is crazy to me.
Yeah, when people have sent pictures as well of where they're listening.
And I'm like, it doesn't, in my brain, it doesn't compute until I see that.
And I'm like, what, this person's on a tractor?
Like, listening to this podcast.
It's ridiculous.
In like Australia or something.
Yeah.
But look, I hope that we can continue and improve on the sorts of stuff that we've done previously.
And I hope you'll join us on this adventure.
Let's now answer one final question.
Can we expect lots of podcasts?
Yes, apps are freaking lootly.
We're going to be in your ears probably more than you're actually wanting us in your ears.
But please do subscribe to the feed and all the other good stuff.
If you want to be kept up to date in the world of Formula One and what myself and Tommy have to say,
we as I said earlier, we might be bringing in some special, I say might,
we definitely are going to bring some special guests along the way too.
So yeah, that kind of sums up that one, doesn't it really?
I mean, it's just going to be content for days.
We are not disappearing.
We're not resting on our laurels, if anything.
Not until your yacht invite comes in from Shal.
Oh, yeah, exactly.
But look, hopefully we'll have a backlog.
And if not, Tommy, you're just going to have to solo some stuff.
But look, you're at home of great.
That's fine.
Yeah, me presenting.
You are great off-the-cuff presenter.
You know, really think on your feet really well, don't you?
Yeah, absolutely.
Okay, so we just wanted to wrap this podcast up and say, thank you.
The love and support that we received when we announced we were leaving was absolutely insane.
Genuinely, the amount of people that came flooding in to say, best luck on the new, whatever it is, I'll be following you.
You better be.
Hopefully you're listening.
If not, you lied to us.
But, you know, there was so much love and warmth from what we'd,
done and of course look into the future as well. I really do, I really hope not just for Grace's
sake and being on the streets, but in general, I really do hope you come along for this next
chapter of our lives, right? You'll get to experience everything with us in 2023 and beyond. We're
not going anywhere anytime soon, that's for sure. But yeah, it's just to say thank you so much.
I'm so excited to see where this goes. And I hope you will
jump on the train of the hype of Ferrari
and if not you can just watch it
ride off the mountain
as they conch out in the first round of the season
but yeah you can tell my brain couldn't even process
the fact that Ferrari wouldn't win the world championship just then
Tommy any final thoughts
well you've kind of stolen my final thoughts
of just thank you I know we said it so much but it has been
unbelievable to hear the support for us and just the appreciation for everything we did,
not just at WTF1, but wanting us to, you know, come back and and do something new.
Yeah, I just really, really can't wait for this.
And what I really can't wait to do is talk about Formula One because I've missed it a lot.
Obviously, we've kind of cleared up the whole confusion over where we fired.
Are we doing this?
Are we doing that?
and now just looking forward to doing what we love most,
which is chatting about F1,
and F1 is going to be back before we know it.
Car launches, testing the first race,
which is on my birthday as well.
What a present that is.
Hello.
Happy birthday.
Get some balloons.
Some B1 balloons.
That'll be good.
On the watch along.
How old will you be turning?
Is it 40?
47.
No, 34.
I am actually pushing towards 40.
That is scary.
You're in your mid-30s now.
That's crazy.
I mean, I say that.
I'm in my 30s now as well.
So we're both on this journey.
Both with P1 and being in our 30s.
Anyway, thank you everybody for watching and listening.
If you want to rate us five stars,
we will be reading out some reviews later down the line
to share some of your love because we do really appreciate it.
And write a little message as well if you want to.
We love you all.
See you very soon for another podcast.
P1!
