We'll see you on Thursday.
Welcome, welcome, everybody, to Second Helpings.
is Jackie Zabrowski.
And I'm MJ.
The story of the week
may have been
Mylie's refusal
to sing her own songs,
but your second helpings
of the week are a little bit
of Tyra, a little bit
of Cardi B,
and a whole lot of red flags,
courtesy of love is blind.
Love is blind.
The red flags are waving.
You might think
maybe just being on
love is blind as the red flag,
but I just don't think
that that's the case.
I think it's just the case
of like, do all men have sepsis?
Is that what this is?
Is it blood poisoning?
Is it blood poisoning that they're all experiencing that like maybe they should be flushed out or something?
I just.
Does Boston have a systemic lead problem?
Is that?
That has led to some sort of like debilitating cognitive dysfunction.
Disfunctions that are going on over there.
And you know here at page seven, we're scared of saying anything about the city of Boston.
But I do know.
because we refused to go on to her there in 2022.
And you know, it's just the fact that I have almost gotten arrested in Boston.
I think almost every time I've been in Boston.
And is that my fault or is that Boston's fault?
I don't know.
That's interesting.
Yeah.
See, I have like the opposite relationship with Boston as most people.
I think most people maybe have like gotten real trashed in Boston.
Man, I was with my buddy meatball and we were paint in the town.
Marinar. I'll tell you what.
I have family who lives in Boston, but it's like when we go there, it's just like a very cozy.
We're like hanging out with kids and cousins.
And it's like that's the opposite experience of what I was doing with Meatball in Boston.
Yeah.
Yeah. I haven't. I don't think I've spent a lot of time in Boston, but I don't think I've really, I know I haven't like painted the town red.
And I.
Or green, excuse me. I guess it depends.
I don't know.
But also what is there this?
No, red because their socks.
Their socks are red.
And yeah, that's happy congratulations to your socks.
Speaking of which, I know that it'll already have happened by the time this went up,
but, you know, the dedication night at Dancing with the Stars and how Maura Higgins is
dedicating her song to the country of Ireland, which I just love in every way.
Yes, and I can't wait for it.
And she's using a Dropkick Murphy's song called Shipping Off to Boston.
And I was in, you know, Dropkick Murphy's very, very Irish, Irish American band.
And this I was watching.
I'm scared. I'm sorry and I'm scared.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
I would call it the drop kick Murphy's firmly like Irish punk and I knew that and I wasn't
questioning it. And then they're wonderful and I'm so excited that that's what she's
do. It's going to be so good. But that I think it's a lady that you sent me towards one of
these like social media like show recap ladies. Oh, Steph with the Deets?
Maybe, maybe it was her. She was like.
All the secret lives of Mormon wives. That they're the like, Steph with the Deets is the one
And they're always like, and then Steph with the Dietz was out there saying,
yeah, I think it was her.
And she was like, I just thought it was very funny because she was like,
Morr Higgins is using a song called Shipping Off to Boston for her dedication to Ireland.
That's interesting.
Like, like, it didn't make sense.
And I was like, but it does make sense.
It does.
There's a direct pipeline.
That's like the thing.
That's nice.
So I just, I was like, Steph with the Deets.
I know you don't have time to do a lot of research before you make these videos.
You got to pop them off.
She's got a lot to do.
She's got a lot to do. She's got a lot to do. She's been very on top of the Val Allen Burstyn situation. Oh, she has. I did, I appreciate it. I saw some meme that was talking about how their new self-care ritual in the morning with their husband is to have a Carrie Ann Ann Annabom. moment. Be like, Carrie Ann, like, to rate the day out of like what the day is going to be based on how you feel when you wake up in the morning. And I was like, I don't know if I need the Carrie Annanaba like dollop on my day, you know.
I feel like that's going to bring it with like bringing out the definitions, getting through the definition of a Tuesday and what it's supposed to be.
You know what I mean?
Well, she, I mean, everybody feels, we discovered this last year.
People have such strong feelings about dancing with the stars.
And all of the people are like, that guy who died never would have let this happen.
But people are finding footage of like clips of Kariana Naba from previous seasons complimenting.
Like there's literally a clip of her being like,
way to get around the lift rule by having troop do the lift. So a lot of people are saying it's
hypocritical. A lot of people are saying that Carrie Ann is more critical of women, pros, and women
stars than men. I'm not saying it. I'm just saying people online are saying it. And I think that
that's something now I'm going to be watching. Because like any mean judge, if you've ever
gotten attached to a three judge talent show, you will get like a, a, um,
abuser relationship with the mean judge where you want them to like you.
Of course you do. I mean, oh my God, I want Carrie Annabah to look at me with any kind of
like happiness or yeah, like a glint in her eye. Just any kind of sparkle and you know she never would
but then that's the thing. That's what makes her so sexy. This is my problem. This is inherently
my problem with Carrie Ann and Abba. She comes on my screen and I'm just like,
what is it that she was seeing? What is she saying? She's so mean.
Oh, oh, baby girl in control.
I feel like Nicole.
You know, I'm just giving it all.
It is funny.
I was watching a dance on Jackin because I love sent.
I'm pretty sure it came in from Cass, amazing churpa Cass sent in a great dance.
And I thought that Pasha Pashkov was, and I blame the blonde highlights on top that I had no idea that Pasha was married to Danielle.
I had no idea.
And then I was just like, man, think about Pasha in these sheets.
If he can keep Daniela, and I dare say Daniela might be the most beautiful,
I love Daniela.
I love that has ever crossed my screen.
I know.
I know.
I love her.
I love him.
And I'm realizing that it's becoming a little clearer to me how they're all either married or siblings.
Or they're married or siblings and you really don't want to confuse which ones they are.
And it's, it's becoming.
becoming a real problem because now it's like, I'm going to bring this to the table. Is Alan
Burstyn scabbing by, like, subbing for Val? I don't think so. But a lot of people...
I know, I know, but a lot of people are mad at Alan Burstyn. And Alan Burstyn is also partnered
with somebody in, I forget who, one of the other blonde stars, who's very good. So she's
defending him. Glebs shit talking. It's just,
It's a mess.
It's just such a mess.
It is just, and the fact that this is the first suspension really is, I feel like every single, like, even in the ether of like I went into a restaurant last night and every television on the sides were just like, that's like with the stars.
I just what's going on with that's like with the stars.
It's crazy right now.
I know.
And it is really just Val, you shouldn't have done it.
You really shouldn't have done it.
I mean, we just, but you just, it's the same takeaway I have from Kelly Clarkson.
You just have to think, listen, I have, you know how many times I've wanted to be mad and type on the internet?
Millions, you know, and you've got to feel that mad.
And you've got to, sometimes you type it out in drafts and then you delete it.
But post it online when you're real mad is, unfortunately, we have about a decade and a half of precedent to show that it's almost never a good idea.
It's never a good idea.
And if there's one thing we learned from the Kelly's security footage is that she took her phone out right away.
Immediately.
how angry she was and she immediately,
beep, beep, beep, beep.
You can hear it through the tapes.
And the tweet.
I will tweet out.
The timestamp on the tweet is like 10 minutes after the timestamp on the security footage.
So we know there was like, there was no delay.
And so she obviously must have been very upset, which is totally, whether or not it's valid,
like she was obviously very upset.
But I think, again, what if you took a walk?
Take a walk around lovely Brooklyn Heights, you know, look at the brownstones and then see,
should I tweet this?
yeah, you can say, I think
Carrie Ann Ann and Abba may have been unfair to your wife,
but do you want to tweet
about slapping her?
This is your workplace.
This is your job.
Yeah. I just don't think,
he really wasn't thinking, and again,
is it sepsis? Maybe this is
something that, like, they're all dealing with
that, like, I saw that you watched
invasion of the body snatchers, MJ,
like, is it maybe like an invasion of the
body snatchers type of thing? Like, is this something
that we should be, you know,
challenging a little bit more of what's going on up there that you thought that was a good idea, babe.
This is like, like, Why the Last Man, which is a, oh, my God, yes.
Oh, yeah.
Really impacted me.
Really an apocalyptic show that really impacted me, really scared the shit out of me.
But it's like, if you're suggesting a kind of like, why the last man, where in lieu of every Y chromosome, you know, having basically every one of the Y chromosome.
you know, having basically every one of the Y chromosome has something quite wrong with them.
Wrong with them.
But in your version, it's just that they don't think right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then I feel like there's no connection between the brain and the thumbs.
Like I think that that is really what the issue is.
They can't hold a hammer and they don't know what they're doing when they're on their phones.
And I feel like those are the two, the signs.
So I guess just hold up a hammer if you have a male in your home.
Just see if they can grab it
And then you'll know whether or not
They're dealing with blood issues
Well, do we want to talk about love is blind a little bit?
Oh, speaking of blood issues.
Yeah, I'd love to talk about the guy with the boat.
What is wrong with this guy?
Why is he on this show?
He literally, like, one of the girls was like,
but fuck your favorite day.
Like when we're together, he's like,
well, come home from not being anywhere in your...
you're my family. I kiss the kids. Oh, the baby girl's toddling around. And I look at my wife and say,
oh, I bet you need a break, honey, and I jump right in. Oh, you're telling me, Mr. Yacht, that you're
going to come in from being slathered up with goons all day and you're going to slide right into
child care. Is that what you're telling me you're going to do? Because I'm pretty sure that's not what's
going to happen. And these girls are just like, ah ha, ha, oh, you. Oh, my God, you're going to be just
that great dad. Like, what are you talking about?
That was so weird. It was like, he was like
describing his trad wife
fantasy. Yeah. And the girl
was like, I love these
and I'll take care of the
kids all day and I'll never see you
and you'll be with all your whores on your boat
because we can say whores now, right?
Aren't we all just called horse?
I mean,
what, girl, want more for yourself.
What are we talking about here? Not that I'm saying
that's the biggest takeaway.
Want more for how,
What? Yes, the men might all have sepsis, but what? How can we get these women to love themselves, Jackie? How can we build them up? How the hell is anybody going to love you? It is just, I, I'm, and not that that's like not enough. Like, if that is what you are looking for, hell yeah, man. They're, like, raising a family is a very, very difficult work and is a very difficult job. It is just the way in which they talked about it. Like it was this delulu that they're living in of just like, that's not. I know.
Calling in love is a little,
but this is all manufactured
and this, like, it's scary to say
to somebody, especially with them all,
with their blood conditions currently,
of like what they're going to hear
when you say this and it's like,
you promise that you were going to give it to me.
Like, I don't trust any of them.
They're all so scary, MJ.
And that's why you even scoffed when I was like,
at least Maury at the top of the show.
Don't make me defend Maury.
It's just like, that's the thing.
At least he was willing to be like, I got emotions.
I'm a Boston guy.
I got emotions.
Like, at least there was that.
I'm in a prison of my own masculinity because my father never was happy.
And he loves Taylor Swift.
I thought it was actually really cute.
I would have given that guy a shot.
I would have.
There were a couple of things about Mori that were okay.
But yeah, there is this interesting thing happening on Love is Blind this season.
Maybe it happens every season where there's like, they're engaging in this kind of like grown up pretend play where they're like
fantasizing about the lives they have together.
They're kind of playing like narrative house, like children.
There's an episode, there's a part in an episode I don't think you've gotten to yet, Jackie,
where I was almost going to text you.
I was so disturbed.
Tell me.
It's not the Gaston thing.
Oh, but it is Stu.
Of course, Stu.
It's the guy who likes Gaston.
And he's talking to Jacks, who we have already seen from social media clips is the person
that he, you know, ends up proposing.
to, but they're like, they mean, they have a real fucked up thing. Anytime you're already,
if things are fucked up before you've even seen each other. Before you even seen each other?
That's, whoa, whoa. But he's like, they're, they do this like long, extended, like,
narrative role play where they're like, we go to a restaurant. But instead of saying we, I do this,
I do this, they do the entire thing referring to themselves as mommy and daddy. So they're like,
we're at the restaurant and mommy wants.
some wine and daddy says bring two bottles and then they're driving home and mommy's mad and daddy
pops another bottle of wine when they get home and I was like I wanted to throw up.
Stu. And of course it's coming from it and just the mommy and daddy it is also this like
the fantasy of what being a parent is is fascinating. And I wonder if you as a parent feel that way,
The way that they're all talking about being a parent,
like it is just this like, play house miracle that we are.
Yes.
The children are accessories.
It's just so crazy that I'm like, why are they all talking about this?
Like they're getting into this.
Like I understand that being a parent is like an institution.
It's just the way they talk about it is so like, have you ever been around kids before?
Do you know how difficult?
it is and or maybe you have to lie to your, you know, it's like when you're falling in love to be like,
and then yes, and then the babies and like which, yeah, also the white picket fence, fantasy, whatever.
Yeah, like I, yeah, that is a, that is a great point because I have been noticing that
that they all have this very childlike fantasy of like what it will be like to have children and
they completely describe it as like a kind of like an addition, like a little charm on their own
relationship.
Yes.
Like, oh, like on a charm bracelet.
100%.
Like, oh, you'll have like the boat guy.
Oh, there'll be a little girl with curls and there'll be a slugger boy who wants to hit
baseballs in the back.
And yeah, these freaks certainly aren't the only, the first people to like have a kind
of two-dimensional fantasy of what family life is like.
But it does seem significant.
I mean, first of all.
In 2026, it seems significant.
I will say that I think I certainly I before I became a parent had a somewhat two dimensional
understanding of it too because it's kind of hard to yeah it's like how can you know something
until you know it and then the kind of like biggest realization of becoming a parent is like that's
not a charm or an accessory that is a full person yeah that now you just have another person who
lives with you but yes but also we're going to have to find out if a daddy goes out
on a yacht and comes on home, we're not going to know, but you're going to find out after we get
back from this ad break. He doesn't, and he's never coming home. He's never coming home. And yeah,
I think it's more that it's like such a good point about the childlike imagination of what
their life could be because especially these men have not demonstrated any ability to act like an
adult. So I think it really comes off as especially child. Like, like it's one thing if you're
like in love. But he's ready for a wife, MJ. He got his boat. And now he is ready to be
be daddy. Like, I don't understand. What's the disconnect? He's obviously really thought about this and
worked on this and he's ready to be on a boat far away from his family. What is he not thinking about?
Yeah, like, it's one thing to be in a relationship and be like, oh, I want kids and have a kind of like,
you know, fairy tale fantasy of it that isn't fully fleshed out. But it's another thing to be like,
I'm talking to a person through a wall. And I, the only, the deepest I want to know about them is like,
what, you know, what job they have, if that, you know.
And like there is this profound lack of ability to engage with a woman, to, you know,
when that woman, talking to the boat guy was like, I love my job,
but I don't want to quit my job to live on a boat with you.
He's just like, weird to hear a woman.
It's not what a woman says.
Yeah.
That woman doesn't want what I want.
But then it makes.
sense that the crazy energy of the Albanian woman that is now harpooning the yacht guy,
which I was like, they're made for each other.
I hope that that continues because whatever energy you're hearing through the pod and being
like, that's the energy I crave, go off because even Maury was like, wait a second,
you're saying I love you and you don't know anything about me.
Even Mori was like, I think this is too rich for me, you know?
It's so annoying.
Boat guy is like, I traveled to Croatia so I understand Balkan women.
And she's like, oh my God.
And I love Balkan women.
He's like, I've been on the beach in Croatia.
And she's like, I'm a war refugee from Kosovo.
And he's like, I totally understand you.
And she's like, you do totally understand me.
And then she's talking about her childhood in war tour, like as a refugee.
and he's just like, yeah, not that I'm saying,
and I've had a loss of a parent, it's huge, it is, it is fundamental, it is life-changing,
I completely understand, I just don't know if you can be like,
I had a wonderful childhood, a loving family, and of course, devastating to lose your mom.
It is no matter what, she's alive.
Oh, she's alive?
Benita tells about how the Serbian army came to her house,
they had five minutes to pack everything up
and then they walked on foot
to a rest of Virginia.
And he's like, yeah.
And he goes, yeah,
on Thanksgiving Day when I was in college,
my mom had a stroke.
Which is very scary and very upsetting.
Very upsetting.
And then he goes, but she's totally recovered now.
Oh, is that?
But it was scary.
Yes, she's fine.
And I'm not saying that wasn't scary for you.
Terrible.
So scary.
Terrible.
So, so scary.
She walked to Macedonia.
I just don't think it's the same.
I know apples and oranges,
but he did say, I know just how you feel.
I could really relate to you.
Shocked.
I was like, I don't think that that is the case, sir.
Yeah, yeah.
But then there's also like the Wilson and I forget her name
when he was between, they were in a love triangle.
And she was like, peace out.
I don't want to deal with a love triangle.
And then the other one's like,
so you're going to marry me, right?
Yeah, I know.
She was like, oh, yay.
Oh, yay.
I get to be the second choice.
It's like, aren't you always going to be like,
was I just the second choice?
Did you just choose me to stay on this show?
How do you continue on
and actually continue a relationship with this person?
Right?
I know.
I need, has this internet people to point me towards this,
have somebody written, like I want to read a book
about Love is Blind from season one until now and like what cultural changes can be observed
in this because the central drama of season one of Love is Blind.
You know there's going to be some PCs out there.
Like that's awesome.
Yes.
Please.
And if you've worked on it, please send it in.
We would love to read it.
It's just because it is this like, you know, and especially season one, it like came out
during the pandemic.
I think it was film before the pandemic.
But it was like this weird synchronicity because we were all isolated from each other.
So it felt like this.
Oh my God.
Like this is a show about like.
being isolated from each other.
But the central drama of season one was like, you're my second choice.
I played two ladies and then one kind of figured it out and then I went to the second choice.
And that is often like the central drama.
And I do wonder like can we find cultural significance of like that now many seasons later,
you know, some of the women are just like, oh, thank God.
I came in second.
I'll take it.
You know, and I don't know.
I'm just speculating.
but I do think that Love is Blind is this weird culture mirror
where we see all sorts of the sepsis of our society, if you will,
reflected in the contestant of Love is Blind.
Stu supports Gaston.
I just like that, I don't know how else to bring up the problem.
You know what I mean?
Like he sees Beauty and the Beast and only supports Gaston.
I just think that there's some sort of problem in the,
the wiring up there. Yeah. Yeah. And I feel, I'm not going to say I feel bad for Stu because I don't,
but I feel bad that Stu on social media is being dragged just for his looks. Well, he should be
being dragged for his horrific personality. That's the thing. I don't, like, all looks like,
honestly, even I close my eyes. I can't see with this guy. He looks like, again, white man C,
like he is just guy. I don't even think that he is interestingly enough. I don't even know how I would
make fun of how he looks.
I think the only thing that I would say is he looks like man.
He looks like a man.
Like, that's, that's it.
I don't, he's not even interesting looking, you know what I mean?
I think if you told a generative AI model to, like, produce a man who's very wealthy and
from Connecticut and thinks Gaston is the hero, I do think it would like generate that man.
Yes, you are, you are correct.
And that while that might not be our flavor, you know, it certainly apparently is not
Jack's flavor on the show either.
She doesn't like it. She don't like it.
Oh, she don't like it.
But surprisingly, she fell in love with the personality.
And that's the biggest problem with him.
That's worse.
That is, I'm actually like, Jax, I'm, I.
Sorry, girl.
I am madder at you for thinking that this man's nightmare personality that he did not
hide was worth saying yes to.
Like, at that point, I'm like, you just are doing this for airtime.
Yeah.
And that's the other thing that like anytime now when we're talking
about fucking celebrity choices.
We have to think, like, is this some sort of covert PR thing?
Of course.
And now Love is Blind?
It's like, is everyone playing three-dimensional?
How do I stay on TV longer?
Just to be on TV.
And, you know, I guess they're like, we try to weed them out.
But like, who is?
Nick Lechay?
Man, you see them wheeled and dumped in front of everybody.
And he's just, man, the puffiest.
Just like, I just, they look so unhappy.
And every time they talk about their love, they're like,
we have been together for 19 years.
And so we know I'm out love.
Like they just look like they have a gun behind their back.
Vanessa Lichet especially, she does look like she is only in this marriage because they have like a love is blind contract.
Yeah.
I'm fairly sure.
And I don't think that they see each other until they like walk on the set and then they don't see each other again.
I'm fairly certain.
Right?
Also, remember when they, in that first episode when they're like,
it's Nick and Vanessa Lachey there and they're introducing it.
And one of the people is like, I was married before.
I hope that doesn't make me like, you know, that's like baggage of mine.
And fucking Nick Lachey, fuckhead is like, oh, well, I don't know if you know this about me,
but I was married before too.
And he's like so, it's like this big inside joke, I roll.
Like I was married to her, to Jessica Simpson.
That is the most appealing thing about you, Nick Lachay.
And then he says something somewhat.
nice, which is like, it's not something that's bad.
If anything, maybe you could argue that this is like some life experience that you can take
with you, which is like a fine and healthy way of thinking about it.
But I did not like how he rolled his eyes implicating that it was like a mistake to marry
Jessica Simpson.
I mean, obviously the marriage didn't work out, but never make her a punchline.
Nick Lachay, you don't deserve that.
Talk about keeping women's names out of your mouth, all right?
I'm going to fucking fresh prints you, okay?
Keep her name out of your mouth, all right?
She's had a lot of difficulties, okay?
And she didn't want to sign a pre-nup and you, I think you screwed her over.
So that's, and that's just how it goes.
And Nicklishet's evil.
Yes.
She was a teenager.
Fuck you, Nicklishet, yes.
Fuck you, Nicklishet.
And I hate that they are in time.
I think it's part of the, it is one of the many reasons why I'd stopped watching Love is blind.
But it is so crazy, MJ.
The second you start, I can't, like, I'm just so sucked into it.
I'm just like, toxic, ew, puke.
and I can't look away.
I know.
I was like, I was trying so hard.
So we're recording this on a Tuesday.
We record our big show on Monday, which incidentally, it was, I was smiling at all the people
who about our Kelly Clarkton conversation who were like, it sounds like they're having
this conversation before the security footage dropped.
I was like, that's true.
But we, on Monday, I was desperately trying to find tickets for you can see everything.
And the entire Manhattan, Brooklyn, everything sold out.
And so this morning, I was.
It's just like, well, in lieu of watching what some are saying is the best movie they've seen in years, I'll watch the worst television show ever made, which is love is blind.
Yes.
So it's like, that's the balm you need, you know.
These are the poles of existence right now.
There's love is blind and there's you can see everything.
And I will say I'm going to get into my feelings about you can see everything.
I'm going to kind of try to put it more towards the end of the episode in case you don't want to hear anything of my thoughts at all.
And then you can just switch it off.
For now, I just wanted to read,
Oh, Tuki, I never wagered your lip, Nuki.
In your eyes is the only place I want a Luki.
You've taught me about loving and giving.
I was a rookie.
You're so pure and sweet, and now I'm hookie.
Oh, Tuki.
Is this Tyra Banks's voice acting?
This is Tyra Banks's voice acting.
It is, I didn't know if you had actually, so last week I had included the fact that Tyra Banks is doing her own audiobook of Model Land.
There was no audiobook beforehand, which is, I mean, part of the reason why I had started over on Jackie's Book Club that I was like, I'm giving voice to the voiceless, okay?
I was bringing it to the masses.
I would say you're giving voice to someone with much too loud of a voice.
Much too loud of a voice that you can't hear it because she's screaming.
And that's all you can really decipher through the gurgling and the squelching noises.
But it is Tyra, all right?
It is.
So Tyra is doing the audiobook.
But that also means that Tyra is doing all of the voices for all the bat shit characters that she wrote.
And MJ, I just keep getting sent the video of Tyra.
Tyra doing all of the voices of her characters.
Now, it's crazy.
The characters are truly insane.
I know that I've talked about this before, like absolutely, truly crazy.
I didn't know that their voices could be even crazier.
Like, I did.
Like, for instance, for Miracle, I made her talk like this and creamy.
Oh, Chucky gets everything.
Like, that was the level of what I was bringing to the audiobook.
She blows me out of the water with choices.
This clip that you sent me, I was like physically unsettled by it.
She's going through and showing.
She is sometimes somebody's craziness just oozes off of them so tangibly that you can just feel it through the phone.
And she's like, she's like, and then this character is more like this.
I have to change my face.
and she does this whole body transformation.
And I was like, you know what, Tyra, I got to say,
it does look like you're putting a lot of effort into this.
She is putting a lot of effort into it because here's a thing, MJ,
like as someone that I do a bunch of different voices and stuff,
usually you hold the voices in your body as easy ways
to be able to transition from voice to voice.
It's just an easier way.
Something I'm struggling with deeply reading my book because I'm just like,
for MJ's book club, because I'm like,
all of these people are all women from Minnesota.
and I don't know how to differentiate their voices.
But yeah, so it has given me a newfound appreciation
for how hard it must be with an audiobook
to do all these different characters.
It is also, it's like all in like how you hold your mouth.
It's all in like where it's coming from.
But watching her transform from character to character
is such a crazy, like, did she have contacts in, like false contacts?
She looked in this specific, like, look up the model land of,
if you just put in Modeland Tira voice,
is this will pop up and you'll watch every single one of them because I mean it's also so funny
and I know that this may be too inside baseball maybe this is boring usually like it there's like
dramatic readings of audiobooks and in a dramatic reading you make you know there's music it's
stage it's more of like a stage exactly it's higher emotions you're so when you're doing a regular
audiobook usually and the reason why I have so much fun at Jackie's book club is
really you're not supposed to hear any voice and be taken out of the story.
They're not really supposed to. Like, it's the opposite of like a cartoon voice where you want to make it very distinct.
It's actually the opposite. You kind of, and so probably MJ, what you're already doing is perfect, where it's just really subtle differences unless they're talking to each other.
And they often are.
It's very, yeah, it's, I'm sweating over here when I'm recording MJ's book club. I was like, this is much harder than I thought.
It feels like I'm reading, you know, I've spent years and years.
reading out loud to my children, but obviously you have to differentiate. You're not just
reading out loud. You want it to be somewhat of a theatrical experience. But what Tyra is doing
this makes me want to actually, even though I have read Model Land, I did my own audiobook.
It makes me actually want to seek it out and listen to it just to hear whatever she put into it.
because here, I love that Tyra claims that she definitely 100% wrote this book.
I don't think there's any way she 100% wrote this book.
Or maybe, honestly, it makes such little sense.
Maybe she definitely wrote this book.
Yeah.
But her giving 120% every, or did she just record some of the lines and the rest of it was
filled in with AI?
I have to know and I have to listen to it.
But this was kind of like pre-AI, right?
or a pre-generative AI that could make something that felt like it was written by the
now.
She just made the audiobook.
Right, right.
But the not the text itself.
Oh, no.
Yeah, no.
I didn't mean the text itself.
I meant the actual like inputting like how she said the lines and using AI to generate the rest of the voice.
The rest of the lines.
I see.
I see.
But there's only one way to find out.
And that's if the audio book is really, really janky and bad.
And I got to find out, MJ.
I need to know.
You know, we all have our.
books that we've read many times.
Like for me, it's like the little prince.
I've got the giver blindness of being.
Yeah, and then yours is going to be like, model land.
I've read it three times.
I read the book.
Just model land.
Yeah, no, it shows.
Yeah.
I listened to it.
I was so excited because I was in the middle of redoing my office and I forgot a friend
of mine Libby had sent me a signed copy of model land.
I have a signed copy of model land.
So, I mean, guys, I'm going right to the top.
Okay?
Oh, man.
It's right up there with my ice planet barbarians that was signed by Ruby Dixon.
I mean, it's big, you know?
Tyra really is the gift that keeps on giving.
Enough years can go by where you're like, I haven't thought about her.
She has faded from the conversation.
And then I watched this video that you sent me, and I was flooded with emotion.
Wow.
She is so, she is one of the craziest people to ever grace our television.
It's why I love the whole idea of hot ice cream.
It's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
It's just Coco.
And it's just I don't understand how she really truly thinks that she cornerstoneed a market that had never been tapped.
And I love this.
Talk about the delulus that we're all living in.
If I could just get like a slice of the paradise inside of Tyra's brain, that would be, oh my God.
Wouldn't it be amazing?
you would never, maybe you would never deal with like imposter syndrome ever again.
I think that that's true.
I don't think she's ever like revisited any of the very bad choices that she's made.
She just plows through.
I mean, if any, if America's next top model documentary taught us anything is that she's not looking back.
Okay.
She's only looking forward.
Oh, no.
Because what she sees, no, in the past, it's all just glitter and gold.
Like, I do feel like she is Tuki de la Crem from model land.
Like, I think that she maybe.
this is her just writing like what she thinks actually happened to her as she was raised.
Like maybe this is the modeling school she went to and maybe this is the way, the reason why she is
the way she is. But I guess we're going to find out even more about hot ice cream and maybe
a little bit more about if daddy acrobat loses his eyeball while trying to do a gag with a knife
and Mommy accidentally got his attention
so the knife went into his eye instead
and now he has to wear an eye patch
and he can't be an acrobat anymore
and you'll find out if all of that is going to return
right when we get back from this ad.
It does and he's still there.
I forget if he lives.
I remember Daddy lives because she thought.
It sounded like you were explaining the plot
of World According to Garp,
but that's actually a little weirder.
Surprisingly not. No.
This was, Modiland she had set up
to be like the first of many.
Ah, yes, like its own hunger games situation.
Really ends in a pregnant fashion.
It's definitely much like a, oh, and then the journey is about to begin and then just
nothing.
I love that she's reinvesting.
Don't write a book afterwards.
No, no, no.
Don't extend the story.
Just reinvest in what you've already done.
Yes, Tyra.
Man, I love it.
And I know that there's not much to say aside from just.
shouting it out, but I just really do want to shout out Cardi B's Tiny Desk and how
what did she say?
So you said the P word was brought to Tiny Desk.
I said the P word has come to NPR.
You know, it's just Cardi B singing her music, which involves a lot of the word pussy,
you know, and it's just a thrill to see it happening at Tiny Desk.
Who she sings, be careful?
It's so good.
Oh my God.
That's my favorite Cardi B.
Well, now, I mean, I feel like I just want to like stop the whole episode where I'm
I want to sit and I'm going to watch us.
I love, you know I love Cardi.
That's the thing I've just, I love her.
I love, I've never not had a wonderful experience, specifically watching her profile.
I love listening to her music, but I love, love her.
And so having her do the Tiny Desk experience just felt, I mean, you know, there's a bunch of
amazing musicians have done it.
That was actually Chapel Roan's Tiny Desk was one of the first times that I was like, oh, okay,
I see.
Oh, really?
And that's what like, honestly, I think it's Holden over the years really got me invested in Tiny Desk and just like the idea of, you know, I love playing with the acoustic side of things, especially like in a Cardi B type situation where it makes, it brings such a different vibe to what she's doing, but also shows how earnest and invested she is at the same time to be able to still put on such a great performance in such a smaller fashion.
Absolutely.
I feel that's, yes, that's such, you're so right.
It's like this different musical experience.
And also, you really have to see, like, the stage presence, the performance.
And often that translate, like sometimes it translates into this weird, like, wow, this is, we're in like a little NPR studio.
This feels really weird.
And for Cardi B, it's just, it's just so fun to see, to hear this music in this context.
And it's so good.
Damn, she is just so good.
And I know she's often in the headlines for like early.
she's often in the blinds for like, you know, various like kind of interpersonal conflicts and stuff with her ex.
She's spicy.
She's spicy.
It's part of the reason why I love her.
It's also, again, you guys can see, I'm scared of her and I'm in love with her.
And it all goes together in my brain.
And it's part of my many, many problems.
But also part of what makes me me.
and isn't that beautiful?
Yeah.
So if you have not seen Cardi's tiny desk,
I highly, highly recommend watching it.
It was my favorite thing that I watched all week.
I love her, I love her, I love her.
Man, it really is, speaking of things that it's favorite things people have seen all week,
everybody's really talking about the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
You're right.
Right.
The other one is talking about the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
More than usual.
And I know that, you know, when these kind of things come around,
Of course, they're in the headlines.
It's just talked about.
Yeah, it comes up.
It's not usually bringing anything to such a difference that usually we talk about it on
the show.
But it was just kept getting brought up.
Now, don't get me wrong.
Go off Barbara Palvin.
Like, hell yes, bitch.
And this is Dylan Sprouse's wife, I believe.
And she just had her first baby six months ago.
Six weeks ago, I think.
Six weeks ago.
And it's so crazy.
So she's six weeks postpartum on stage.
They showed her in the 2025 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and then they showed her in this Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
And everybody's like, girl, and she's like, I'm very lucky.
I'm very lucky.
My body is coming back.
I am not having to do much.
Like she's being very, and I also really appreciate that she's being very open about it.
Where it's like, I am very thankful.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And also, right.
This is just so lovely.
We can root for her in every way, I feel.
Because, yeah, she's, like, speaking very openly, honestly about it.
And, like, also naming.
Dylan Sprouse.
I'm sorry.
He's wonderful.
Yeah, no, I just like that she's, like, naming that this is not, like, that I am six
weeks postpartum.
Like, this is not something that anybody should be expecting themselves to do, you know.
Whereas I kind of feel like when Jan Affleck was on Dancing with the Stars, it was just
like, I'm six weeks postpartum, but I'm expected to be dancing as good as everybody else.
And here, it's like, he's standing.
in the audience, like, bowing down to her.
She's the ultimate wife guy.
MJ, you are so right.
It's crazy.
It's exactly what I was thinking about.
How different it was for Jen Affleck,
who was also six weeks postpartum,
and the difference of even just the way in which she is supported
versus Barbara Palvin.
Like, Zach Affleck is, oh, God,
just the gum under my shoe.
I just want to smooch him.
I want to smooch him.
And you know that he was so even, like he wasn't supporting her in doing the six weeks.
And it wasn't because like, oh, you should be taking care of yourself.
No, it's because he was pissed that she wasn't taking care of the kids.
And he said this as much on season five.
He was like, I had to watch all these kids while you went and dance.
But you're dancing with the stars.
And then meanwhile, that is the opposite of anything.
Because you're right.
Hardcore wife guy.
Dillon Sprouse is a wife guy.
But of course.
Love it.
Look at a smoking white.
I mean,
yeah,
I mean,
whoa,
I'm like surprised
that my husband's a wife guy,
but then I'm like,
I ain't no angel,
you know what I mean?
But she just like,
I really,
it just seems like,
especially even on his podcast,
the way in which
they even just talk about each other.
I know that it is just,
it could just be lip service,
right?
But in my brain,
I truly feel
how you speak about a
partner is very, very important. I think you've learned here that it's like I don't, I don't like
to talk shit about my partner. This is, I like to build up my partner. And it does seem that like
Dylan Spouse is also that person. Yes. I, I, I, I, I feel the exact opposite way of seeing
Barbara Palvin on that stage than I did looking at Jen Affleck on Dancing with the Stars.
Yes, because it just doesn't, you don't look at Barbara Palvin on the Victoria's Secret stage and
feel like, oh, I kind of feel bad for the fact that I couldn't do that at six weeks postpartum.
Maybe that's also just the fact that none of, I think most of us don't look at Victoria's Secret
models and be like, could have been me.
But like, you know, and may, I don't know, but I do just feel like the Gen F like thing,
it was kind of presented in like this whole hustle culture framework where I was like, wow,
look at her, not letting postpartum stop her.
Not even letting her get her pink back, even though she wrote.
the song, you know?
And yeah, I just, I
found myself head scratching
at a lot of the Victoria's Secret
stuff this week because I was like,
couldn't possibly bring myself to care.
And then I saw him standing in the crowd
and rooting for her and I cared.
Between that and also,
I guess this was the first time
that they had performers, like,
on the actual catwalk while the models.
And it is pretty funny.
The amount of people trying to, like,
dodge as they're, like,
like this one performer.
Megan Maroni.
Megan Maroni
with the big wings.
Big wings on.
And she's dancing.
She's like singing on the end of the catwalk.
And there's a model who's literally like,
oh,
like trying to get it at a diagonal
to try to get around her while still doing the model walk.
And I was just like, I mean,
that alone,
that was fun.
There was also a lot of discussion about Kylie Jenner
because Kylie Jenner came out in a like $50 million dollar diamond
bra. It was like by far the most expensive fantasy bra that has ever existed. And I didn't, I'm going to say it. I don't know anything about fashion. So I was like, wow, wow. Like it is, I didn't know that that is a huge groundbreaking. And also if you're a Kardashian, it's also big because Kylie was there, but Kendall wasn't. And Kendall is more the model. And apparently in the world of the Kardashies,
they have been like Kendall's like Kendall gets everything.
Kendall's just a model.
And I guess there's always been like that between them.
So apparently that also ratcheted up why I think a lot of people are talking about it
because she comes out in the $50 million bra and everybody's like, oh my God.
$1.50 million dollar bra.
Oh my God.
Where's Kendall?
And so there's also that whole aspect of it.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The Kendall, I keep.
Everything I learn about the Kardashian family is like against my will, you know.
Yeah.
And this is one of those things.
I saw the picture and I was like, yeah, I mean, you're beautiful.
It's a nice bra.
You know, but I was like, I didn't know what else to say.
I feel like besides that.
At some point, MJ, I feel like we're going to have to try to watch the Kardashies.
I've never even seen one episode.
It's truly a huge blind spot in my reality.
my reality watching.
But I will say
there,
congratulations go out
to Natalia Bryant
who made her
major runway debut
and that is,
we're talking NEPS.
It is the daughter
of the late Kobe Bryant.
And so this was a huge moment for her
and also the fashion world
is very excited for her
and for her journey.
So this was also like a big
lift up for her as well.
Okay.
Well, that's nice.
I'm very happy for all the angels.
I say, hell yes, you put that bra on and you strut your stuff.
And that's about the extent I know of fashion.
I know, I'm like, man, I've like, I've tried over the years to learn about all these different aspects of culture and then modeling is just a gigantic question mark.
I don't, I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know it.
Don't ask me.
I just don't know it.
And that's okay.
you know, we're allowed to have blind spots because sometimes you can see everything.
And sometimes you can't.
Okay, let's talk.
At least.
All right, MJ desperately tried to watch it.
I really tried.
I really did.
It is sold out everywhere.
Sold out everywhere.
Because it, I don't think it had like a huge, crazy release.
This, you can see everything is the Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim doc about Elizabeth.
Holmes. And if you guys remember some weeks ago, I was like, you know, I didn't really know that much about Elizabeth Holmes. So I was watching some stuff to learn more about her before I went into this doc. And I was just like, oh, man, okay, crazy. Well, she's a liar. Okay. So I went into the dock being like, all right, Elizabeth Holmes is a liar. And I love Nathan Fielder.
The nonfiction documentary about her. And then there's also the fictional like series about hers. Yes. And that. And that,
comes into play in the doc.
Now, for those that, like, I'm not,
it's a documentary, so I really can't spoil anything.
Like, I mean, I can spoil moments,
and I'm trying to not do that too much.
Because at the end of the day, we all know she's in prison.
We know she goes to prison.
So, like, that's, there's not a huge spoiler in so much
that, like, it was a groundbreaking change to what she was going through.
Right.
We can already learn about the, many of us have already
engaged with the fraud and the harm and we know she went to prison. Right. Now, MJ,
what do you know about the current situation of what's going on with Elizabeth Holmes?
Very little. I mean, I know that she, like in this past week, like, maybe it was you who
told me that she, like, hasn't really been in touch with him. I know that she's been in prison for a
while. She just got hold of him. She just, like, is now just talking to him about. Yeah. And, and I
know that she has a baby and that, you know, but I, I, I stopped really engaging with Elizabeth Holmes
after the documentary and the series about her. And I would occasionally see like tweets of hers
from prison. But yeah, that's about all I know. And I know I would say of, of, between Lance
Oppenheim, Elizabeth Holmes and Nathan Fielder, I would say I know I've, I've seen at this point
both seasons of the rehearsal.
There's other Nathan Fielder work I haven't seen.
And then, yeah, I've seen both, both, you know, series about Elizabeth Holmes.
And I have not seen any Lance Oppenheim movies yet.
Also, just so you know, all of this came together in them shooting this really fast and really crazily.
Because Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder had become friends.
Essentially, like, Lance Oppenheim reached out to Nathan Fielder, saw that Nathan Fielder hadn't finished his first.
documentary, like I guess like in screening, like analyses, you can see when people don't finish
a movie. So he cold emailed him just being like, hey, bud, there's only 20 minutes of the movie
left. If he finished it, I think he'd really like it. And he responded, he actually responded
with like, actually, I loved it. I did finish it. And it started a friendship between them.
And every time they would be in L.A., they would end up hanging out together. And so they formed
a friendship over time. They were apparently, so Nathan Fielder,
Before he wanted to be anything else, he always wanted to be a magician.
So he invited Lance Oppenheim to the Magic Castle, which is an invite-only magic institution here in L.A.
And when they were in the magic show, someone gave a, you know, they were asking the audience for things.
Someone said Elizabeth Holmes randomly.
And it was crazy because afterwards they were like, man, it's crazy that they brought up Elizabeth Holmes.
They had just been talking about doing a documentary together.
And Lance Op and I was like, did you hear she just hit up A-24 asking for a doc to be made about her?
And so they were like, no.
So they immediately jumped at the chance.
She says yes.
And then like a week later, they were in the San Diego home shooting.
So like it was so it was really fast.
The turnaround and the fact that she asked.
for the doc to be made.
Or at least she and her people.
Right.
Right.
And Fielder, I think it's worth, I'm like, I'm talking with my friends about the film right now.
And none of us have seen it.
One of the people in my friend group is a documentarian filmmaker.
And some of my friends who aren't familiar with him, they're like, is he a journalist?
Is he a filmmaker?
He doesn't know why.
He even asked her.
Like, why me?
Why did he choose me?
she had literally watched like half an episode of Nathan for you.
And that was it.
And she was just like, you're going to tell my story.
And I took this review because Jeff had reposted it and I just thought it was funny of the movie.
And it says, I always think about the time a friend of mine said about another friend of ours,
I'm the good kind of autistic and he's the bad kind of autistic.
And that's why we clash a lot.
And that's kind of how the Nathan slash Elizabeth dynamic felt in this movie.
And that, I think, is it in a nutshell?
Watch it.
Apparently Nathan Fielder wasn't even supposed to be in the movie.
He ends up, because of the relationship that they form in this movie,
he ends up being pulled into her orbit.
in the same way you kind of go through as you're watching the movie.
Which is wild because if the rehearsal shows you anything,
it's that Nathan Fielder has like a pretty hard time forming relationships with people.
MJ, that's what also, if you are a Nathan Fielder fan,
it is also what makes this movie 20 times more fascinating.
Because I think that Elizabeth Holmes might be the first person Nathan Fielder has ever connected to.
before. And in ways that he didn't expect, there were the ways in which this was edited,
I keep thinking about, because it's a three-hour-long documentary, I keep thinking about these
moments that never get an ending that we never find out more from. Then I'm like, well, wait,
what about when her dad said that? And why did he say that? And we never got back to that. And it's just also like,
These random moments of like, for instance, they have this very, this very sweet conversation where Elizabeth Holmes was like, don't you ever just like run out into the ocean and just stop feeling?
And essentially like Nathan Fielder was like, I don't like cold water and I'm not ever going to just jump in the ocean.
It's not my thing.
And then later on when he's talking about how charming she is, it cuts to a scene of the two of them in the ocean.
just a random and then it cuts back to this and it's just like these it is the way in which it
is edited that you're just like wow because I said this and I when I first left the theater
I was like is she innocent and my friend was like she is a liar she is absolutely not innocent she is
so not innocent she's just so not innocent but then now all of this feedback is coming
out from people that have worked with her
that have talked about
how she's able to chameleon herself
in different situations
and that this is such, like,
so if this is one big hoodwink,
that's crazy.
Like, it's just, I,
there's so, I'm trying to not ruin
specific moments because there is this one scene
where I'll just say,
he shows something to her to see her analysis of it and the way in which she's just nothing there
got nothing and yet she's a shark mj she's also a shark so you like know that even though it's like
you're watching the movie and you're like wow she's just really not and then afterwards you're like wait a second
wait a second no no that's exactly what she's doing and it's just i i want to see it again
I want to talk so much about all these little moments that unfolded as,
because honestly, MJ, you get like an hour and a half into the movie.
And I was like, where else is this movie about to go?
Because she's like on her way to prison.
And I was like, where is this movie about to go?
And then where it goes?
Oh, boo, boo, beep.
And I don't want to say anything.
I think that's why what you're describing really, like just the teaser clip that they put out
that like 30 seconds of her looking into his eyes and him looking into her eyes.
And that's a manipulation tactic too. The whole teaser is all a manipulation tactic. It's crazy.
And it's, it's, I think that it was, that was such an impactful like clip to release because
what we know about both of these people, because of what we know about both of these people and
the, the difference, different ways in which they, you know, interact with the world. And so to see
Nathan Fielder, who again, like, very, you know, famously has identified his difficulty connecting
with people, like, staring into this person's eyes and she's looking into his eyes and she, like,
has, you know, crazy eyes.
Like, like, it was, I think that it sounds like they found something that really, like, distills
the bizarreness of the relationship.
Well, MJ, I'm going to say, I haven't even brought up the craziest character in the movie.
I'll just say that.
I don't even think I've brought up the craziest one.
And you will find out a lot more about it.
I think I just did a really good job of teeing up this movie and getting people excited for it and explaining a little bit of how I feel.
But without sharing too much because there are just certain moments that my mouth, my jaw was on the floor.
Like I'm just watching this stuff being recorded.
Yeah.
That's so cool.
I'm so, and yeah, you know, Lance Oppenheim's interesting.
Like, I know that we had a long conversation about primetime and like to catch a predator as a, and to catch a predator as like a show.
But I also know that like, you know, some people are like, this is kind of a weird, like the prime time is like just an interesting choice to be like we're going to do kind of like a fiction.
stylized, stylized version of a story based on a real show. And hence, Chris Hansen's being so
mad about it because, like, that primetime is not a biopic. You know, it is like an imagining of
based on reality, which is an interesting choice. And I think, you know, people can discuss
the ethics of that or whatever. Also, by the way, just real quick sidebar, just as we were talking
about Chris Hansen last time we were talking about it, when some people were like, why do you not like
Chris Hansen, he put a bunch of bad people in jail.
We're definitely talking about how he treated everybody in his lot.
Just because someone puts bad people in prison does not mean that they are a good person.
There's also many facets to being a human being.
Just because you do one good thing doesn't mean that you're great.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It doesn't like, the fact that there might have been some good, that came from to catch a predator also doesn't mean that it's not worth interrogating the whole project itself, you know?
But yeah, and so I'm very excited to see this for so many reasons, but talking to my friend who is a filmmaker, she was talking about Lance Oppenheim as this like, this obviously like very kind of hot director now, but who's making some choices that people are, you know, have a lot of.
mixed feelings about. Oh shit. I didn't realize that he did some kind of heaven.
And he also did the... Oh, dude, you would love some kind of heaven. It is, the dock where it goes
inside the villages, the world's largest retirement community in Florida. Yeah, the villages.
Dude, I didn't realize that was Lance Oppenheim. Okay. All right. Yeah, so I am really looking forward to hearing
people's feedback. Sina, Gazz Navi, friend of the show, shared a reel about, from a defense lawyer,
saying that Oppenheim had like kind of gotten access to some like footage that defense lawyers were using for their clients and then kind of like used it for his own filmmaking.
This was just like a real that I just saw Seena's share today.
So I just, I'm just putting that out there in terms like like interrogating like because Fielder I have feelings about Elizabeth Holme had feelings about Oppenheim as a director.
I don't, I haven't seen his films, but I know that that he's also, he's kind of a character in this too is what I'm trying to say.
Very much so. And obvious his, you know, his direction. In fact, they even talk about apparently, Nathan and Lance apparently almost every day would fight about what they were seeing, like the footage they were seeing and what it was saying. Because everything about Elizabeth Holmes is all of this, like, veiled everything that she says. So it would be them going head to head over what was actually being seen.
said. And I find that fascinating as well because especially where Nathan Fielder goes with, like,
just his feelings about it, I wonder, like, how their partnership continued on, like,
through the editing process and stuff like that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It seems like it's doing
interesting things with the form of documentary. I'm hoping that I will have seen it by the time we
we talk again next week
because it is really a top priority
of mine.
It's just so good and just real
fast. I know that we got to get out of here
but I got to talk about whale fall. I think
I'm the problem.
MJ, I am the problem.
I'm the problem. I think hi, hello,
it's me. It's me.
You're the reason I think of Skyfall
when I hear whale fall, right? Okay.
Thank you. Oh yeah. I don't know
who read that book and was like,
I got to make this movie.
Oh, he's inside of a whale the entire time.
I got to make this movie.
And funny, because I believe it was Adam's joke
that the movie could have just been called
a sphincter-to-sphinctor story.
I don't know if you guys know this,
but lots of sphincters involved inside of a whale
and especially if you're going from belly to belly to belly,
you know, it's like all these bellies.
It's just, in my brain,
I know that a whale can't swallow a human.
And so inherently, I find a lot of this funny.
And I don't blame you.
I also feel that way, but I haven't seen the movie or read the book.
But it does seem, it's giving like James and the Giant Peach.
It's giving there wasn't a old woman who swallowed a fly.
But then people are like, this is so emotional.
I feel such an emotional connection to this text.
I bet the book is fire.
I'm sure it like I bet if I'm reading that book I'm sobbing I'm thinking about that oh the whales my daddy like is you know it's like it's all like it's I'm sure that I would be into it.
Yeah you can make these experimental choices in a book and it might hit differently than when you're actually seeing a human inside a whale.
Because it's all inside of his head and so it's like he's having these flashbacks and he's had and so it's all this like it is this buildup that you're supposed to be like the whales my daddy and the daddy is you know.
It's like, I have to deal with my feelings about daddy.
It's like, it's just, and I, Austin Abrams was doing what he could.
I think that they tried to get too much of the book into it.
And then all of a sudden it's like the whales your daddy and he's living inside your brain.
You know what I mean?
And so getting to that point, but also just the forced way in which the family is all written
because Josh Brolin plays daddy in the back, like in the back scenes in his brain.
And daddy is bad.
And I guess maybe they also added in bad acting daddy
because I don't usually feel this way about Josh Brolin,
but it was such a one-note cartoonish, like,
that's an alcoholic bad daddy.
And alcoholic bad daddy with cum gutters,
which I usually those two don't go hand in hand.
I was a little surprised and it's like,
oh, if he's like degenerate alcoholic bad daddy,
but he's still really working on his body.
I was really impressed with that.
And I, in my head, I don't want to go after that, daddy.
I was not brought.
So all of it and all of how much he was going through sphincters.
I just, and I will say in the end,
and it must have been built up in the book as this thing,
where it's like, of course they did that, it's like,
and you know, when a whale dies in a wall.
You know what they call it?
And it's like supposed to be this mic drop moment to say whale fall.
It's like, yep, whale fall.
Whale fall.
And it's like, Adele emerges from the spout from within the whale to scream whale fall.
It's just like at one point Josh Brolin is screaming, you got soft lungs, you got soft lungs at him.
And then like soft lungs keeps echoing in his brain.
He shouldn't be diving.
He's got soft lungs, MJ.
In the caverns of the inside of the whale.
Yeah, it does sound like a book.
Sounds like a book.
It's a book.
It is so a book.
It's crazy.
And I love that somebody had the vision to be like, I can't wait to see.
But all I could think about was Austin Abrams going to work every day, being shoved inside of a sack of stomach, just having to be like, yep, another sphincter day.
Yeah.
You gotta push yourself through another sphincter, boy.
Yep.
It's full acid.
Yep.
Is it practical like Invasion of the Body Snatchers?
Is he getting all covered in goo and getting shoved through holes?
Oh, yeah.
I'm good.
Well, actually, you know what, MJ?
I don't know.
I hope it is.
But remember I was bringing up that Skylar Gizondo interview that he had with Austin Abrams?
And he was like, well, you were inside of a real whale, right?
And Austin Abrams was like, fucking no, dude.
I was not inside of a real whale.
But I think that they built out a sack.
And at least a couple of sphincters to get through.
I mean, you don't just make one sphincter.
When in whale.
MJ, when in whale.
You have found yourself having to bite your tongue around some people who have enjoyed whalefall for this reason.
Was I biting my tongue or did I get yelled at in the theater?
The answer was the opposite.
It was a ladder.
I got yelled at because there's one point.
What I was saying is that they were, I think they were building it up about like,
when they said that orcas are the wolf packs of the sea,
I just,
I'm sorry,
I burst into laughter because all of a sudden he's like,
and you know what's coming,
something like whale daddies.
It's like,
you know what's coming.
And then it's just like,
the wolf pack of the sea.
And then these orcas come from nowhere.
And they're beating up the whale.
And they're beating up the whale.
And he's like getting thrown around the sphincters,
thrown around the sphincters.
And it's just like,
I'm sure they built it up in the book to make this,
moment of like the killer whales. And I just, uh, I unfortunately went,
and then I got, that's when I got yelled at. It was just the wolf pack of the sea really got
me. Wolfpack of the sea, uh, it sounds like a, like a, like a lonely island lyric,
you know? MJ, everyone took it so seriously in the theater and I am, I, it's me. I'm the
problem. It's me. I, uh, I, I, I, I, I guess I, I, I, I, I, I, I guess I, I, I, I, I, I, I guess I,
I can't be serious anymore.
I don't know.
I know exactly what it's making me think of.
You know the Lonely Island song about Captain Jack Sparrow?
And he says, he's the pauper of the surf.
He's the gesture of Tortuga.
I feel like, I feel like Wolfpack of the Sea just belongs in that song.
Oh, yeah.
It certainly does.
It certainly does.
But you know, guys, I guess I didn't even really, didn't spoil whale fall for you.
I will throw it out there.
Don't laugh really loud because it upsets everybody in the theater.
I try to usually be pretty good.
And it's funny, though, my husband, the opposite.
My husband does not care.
If he wants to laugh, he's going to laugh.
And I love that journey for him.
Usually I stifle myself.
And I even forgot to ask you, do I look like a bitch with these glasses on?
No, everyone loves the glasses.
Do they?
I was scared to look.
I was scared because they, they look.
They look like bitch glasses.
I don't think that they look like bitch glasses.
I think they look nice.
Thank you.
And everybody loves them.
I also loved your older, like big, you know, big glasses.
These are more stylish, shall I would say.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm pretty young.
Thank you for noticing MJ.
Thank you for seeing that about me.
I guess I am Barbara Palvin.
Thank you so much.
Put a pair of wings on me, y'all.
I'm getting biblical because I am going to be the biblical kind of
angel and that's the only way you're going to get me on that stage. I'll tell you what.
But thank you so much, MJ. This has been a blast, and I'm sorry we didn't honestly get a chance
to talk more about invasion of the body snatchers. I just needed to discuss you can see everything
and whale fall. I'm glad. Invasion of the body snatchers is not going anywhere, but I did watch
it based on your recommendation. It's good. I love the pacing of a 1970s movie. Take your time.
Bro, they really get in there. And it's all practical. God damn. All right. Thank you,
