Let's hope we have a wonderful 2020 and enjoy this episode. See you on the other side. Little kiss there from Lucky. Yeah, why don't little kiss?
Starting point is 00:05:48 I've had a thought. I've got an issue. I've got a question I want to ask you. I want to talk. I want a chat. Okay, let's sit down and chew the fat. Has meeting. What temperature should we set the heat?
Starting point is 00:06:01 Has meeting. Why on earth am I always weak? Has meeting. Who went my bed while I was sleeping? I'm really looking forward to the 20s just because it sounds good again. I think we've had a good sound in decades since the 90s. Mae'n gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweithio'r gweith have a good vibe. The tens and the teens, that was war. Was war, 30s, war, 40s, war, 50s. That was better. Well, hang on, I thought we were going to do a year of you. We do an a century review. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:56 But we've last century. We're doing the last century decade by decade. Oh, great strapping. Let's do it. This is much better than what I did last night. Last night, I spent six hours doing every Oasis album post B here now, track by track, to see whether like you've, when you say doing them you were listening through to them. Listening through to them and after every track you decide if it's a win for Oasis or a loss for a racist, that's a great guy.
Starting point is 00:07:25 Like match play. And then you come out working out whether an album is a win, lose or draw for a racist. And how many wins have they had since been here? Well, be here now is a loss for a racist. Standing on the shoulders of giants is a draw, right? Heathen chemistry is a loss. Oh. Don't believe the truth is a loss. Oh. Don't believe the truth is a win.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Oh. And then dig out your soul, which has 11 tracks on it, isn't 11-0 loss for Oasis. Oh, they don't score one goal on the album. Not a single strong song on that entire album. It's devastating. What's the singles offered for dig out your soul? I mean, to really listen to the whole album.
Starting point is 00:08:02 It doesn't feel like there are any. No. Right. So, I mean, but yeah, anyway, let's do this with... Let's take a similar approach to decades. Well, of the... Oh, hang on. I mean, it doesn't make it to... It doesn't make a tremendous amount of sense for us to do the... Centri... The century that passed 20 years ago.
Starting point is 00:08:22 First of all. LAUGHTER But then, do you know what? Here's the thing about us. We've never done things the conventional way. Nothing about anything we've ever done has really made any sense at all. Greetings, listener dear, and welcome to our review of 1900 through to 1970.
Starting point is 00:08:42 That's what we're going to do. Okay, here we go. So it started with a bang, not a wimper. We're right in the other Victorian era, right? Oh, I think you're going back to the big bang for a second. Sorry. I zone down. I'm going to go, whoa, whoa, hang on. Slow down there, brief history of time. Sorry. Are you all right? You hit yourself with the nuts? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, no. Now, for the list of our home, Tom,
Starting point is 00:09:09 Tom, brought some biscuits on his knee. It was dusting some crumbs off. Dusted the cr-to-move the biscuits onto his phone. Of course. Of course, another equally sanitary paste of still biscuits that were in a packet up until 10 seconds ago. Oh.
Starting point is 00:09:23 And then dusted some crumbs right off onto my brush. Brush the knee with such force that he slapped himself in the nut sack. Ready to go. That is not a pleasurable experience to be slapped in the nut sack. No, but it's given me a shot, a jolt of adrenaline, though, I think it's gonna get me through this next. Oh, I love it.
Starting point is 00:09:39 It's a lie, it's a next. I mean, I'm not a century. I highly recommend it. Listen to Deer. Okay. Jolt off some crums, smack yourself in the groin. Have you heard of a pal now? For the next decade.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Wherever you are now, slap yourself in the nuts. Clarkie, famously, you slapped yourself in the... Punch myself. You punched yourself in the dick when we had some good news in Edinburgh one year. Yeah. You called, we were driving to get some badges made. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:04 Clarkie was driving his car. Yeah. You called, we were driving to get some badges made. Yeah. Clark was driving his car. Yes. Day, the worst time to be a person. What kind of punch yourself in the game, I'd say. You said guys we'd been nominated for a peri-a. Yeah. I went, I didn't know what I did. I didn't punch my leg. I don't know why. I pushed himself clean in the nuts. One of He was joyful moments of my life, actually, now that I think about it. It had everything that I enjoyed. We're done well as a group. Clarky was punching himself in the nuts.
Starting point is 00:10:35 And also as well, he did everything Tom liked. He did it. It was fun. He wouldn't, you know, that... He would do it as well as a group. Clarky punch of thirst. And also, if he'd done that in a test, he wouldn't have failed him You know that we were doing well as a group. Clark, you've got to start. And also, if he'd done that in a test, he wouldn't have failed him because he did do mirror...
Starting point is 00:10:49 Signal. Punching it up in the nuts, yeah. And that year, Dillis Natt was 1901. LAUGHTER The century was young. The century was young. So, OK. So, nice to do the decade, surely.
Starting point is 00:11:02 Decade year by year. Win lose or draw anyway Layna's or Arbless just been published. We can't do we're not doing the century we're at the end of Famously I am the team We don't know what even No, I don't know why this is why I wanted this is why I think we go back to 1900s and we start. We have to move on about the fire at pudding lane. You're a 20th century man.
Starting point is 00:11:32 That's true, I love the 20th century. Famously. You've got to tattooed on your back, haven't you? I love the 20th century. I would love to get that out of that. You are the 20th century fox. I am the 20th century fox. Oh! My father is known as the Century Fox. I am the 20th Century Fox. Oh! It's true.
Starting point is 00:11:46 My father has known as the Civil Fox and I am the 20th Century Fox. I'm a man out of time. I tell you another man out of time. Charles Darwin. No, no, no. 1900. Can I say? Just written his famous book, Listen.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Brief expectations. I'm out of time. I'm out of time. Album Closer. On, don't believe the truth. A goal for a racist. We're not going back to your thing. We can't do my thing. We've all got agendas here. Right. And speaking of, speaking of gender, agendas are constricted. 1900, Emily and Pankhurst rode the King's horse parliament. Cross-B. Right. Get you the state state in the decade. I want to talk about what I know about history, man.
Starting point is 00:12:26 Right, no, no. We're into the decade of, so we're going to go through from 2010 or 2011. What's the EuroChrist birth? 2010, we're going to say win lose or draw for each year, we're going to review the decade. We can't remember last win in the Netherlands. We'll see whether the decade wins or loses. It's right. It's keeping. 1900. Stop taking it back.
Starting point is 00:12:52 Stop taking it back. 1900. Steve McQueen hopped off his Harley and said there will be blood. Hopped on to his penny farming. But he said it in German, didn't he? He said it in German. Co-imself in the nuts. This one's for Clark. Steve McQueen, if he punched himself in German, didn't he? He's probably calling himself in the nuts. And so this one's for Clark. Steve McQueen, if he punched himself in the groin,
Starting point is 00:13:08 I mean, there's a lot to punch there. We'll all be doing it. Have you seen that photo of him on the... If it's good enough for McQueen, it's good enough for me, baby. Do you think... Kiss the knuckles. Yeah!
Starting point is 00:13:18 Do you think, you know how there's been, there's been like the Harlem Shake and there's been the Floss and the Dab. Can we bring the Clarky Nut Punch? The Clarky Nut Punch. If we get a grime artist out there to stick it in their music video. Listen, we always bring it back to Stormsieb. If Stormsieb can do the Vossybop, he can punch himself in the Nut sack.
Starting point is 00:13:43 It's the least he can do. What I think he would do, they would punch himself in the nut sack. I wish the Leafs could do. What I think he would do, though, would punch himself in the nut sack, drop his trousers and reveal he was wearing a tiny little Union Jack cup. Oh yeah. Designed by Banksy. Designed by Banksy.
Starting point is 00:13:56 Exactly. That would immediately shred itself. And if you're not worried about that, let's not worry about that, because that's the future. We're talking about the past. We're actually shredding himself. If you please don't, I'm being honest, you're in this record.
Starting point is 00:14:10 I've got rid of the biscuit now. No, you're missing your mouth. I'm going to repeat it to both of you in your mouth and on your phone. I'll just punch it away, hang on. Go, go, go. Very parry, you do have a, I hate to say this, but you've got a small crumb just on your
Starting point is 00:14:26 lower knee there. So be very careful. Very careful. Punch Clark in the next. I said it once before but it bears her knees. Talking about brushing stuff off. There was a bum in spider on my shoulder the other day. Clarkie you don't like a spider? I don't like a spider. He means it's a 1953. I can't get over how it got. The Beatles are riding high on the charts.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Listen to dear, Clarke is perilously scared of perilously. Spiders. You fear for your life when there's a spider. When we were... It was a false widow as well. Oh no, and now a false widows, right, they... They're husband to a life. They've just been telling people. It's just an insurance film, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:15:12 He's passed away. I'm going to miss him so much. Hang on, spider. I saw you and Ikea within the other day. Oh, he's got those bathroom combs. You wish it was dead. but it's everything. Spider and Ikea, of course, takes us way back to 1974. When the smith were riding high in the charts with spider and a keyer, I know, I know. It's serious. All the way back to 1963 with that one. Do you remember when we were at your brother's house and I pretended I'd seen a spider
Starting point is 00:15:42 and you would get beat? Yeah, we all sat down. Well, I think we'd spoken about this before, but we were at your brother's house and I pretended I'd seen a spider and you would get a weird... Yeah, we all sat down and we were all... Well, I think we'd spoken about this before but we were drinking milk. Oh, there you go. Favourously we were drinking beer. Big beer and milk. A classic nighting time bedding, Tom.
Starting point is 00:15:56 Half milk, all bad. 70% water. Call back. That's a call back to a different recording we've done and you'll be able to hear that on the Patreon. Okay. So, how did you react to your false widow this week? In a section we're calling.
Starting point is 00:16:14 Just clarky reactions to a false widow this week. Clarky, can you write a jingle for this? It was, you know, for me. The answer is always no, and we are stuck in the right knee, a jingle. For me it was surprisingly good. I brushed it off, and I can't remember what he said. Oh. To the spider.
Starting point is 00:16:33 I had a sentence. Did you say, my go, ah! I didn't do that, which is what I would normally do. Just very, quite like a delayed reaction. Very, very quickly. Do you, do you, Do you naturally talk to animals? Like Dr. D Little's, though. Speaking of which, the year is 1903,
Starting point is 00:16:52 Red Tarras was riding high in the charts with his version of the Push Me Pull You song. So, if you see an animal, it's your instinct to talk to it, because mine is, I will always say hello. Yeah, I think so. I'll always say hello. Yeah, I think so. I'll always say hello to a cat. I won't necessarily stroke the cat,
Starting point is 00:17:08 but I'll always say hello. I love saying hello to a squirrel. Yeah, what did you say to a rat? What do I say to a rat? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You talk to friendly animals, but the ones that you know, like you fucking...
Starting point is 00:17:23 When a mouse run up my rat is unfriendly. Okay, we can't have another chat about rats, okay? We talked about rats last time. Listen, let's get back to this. The year is 2010. The year is 20? So basically, what I was gonna do is as we were talking now, I was trying to look on my phone,
Starting point is 00:17:38 like so we got like a snapshot of this happening 2010 then we can review it. This happening in 2011. Oh, that's good. But in order to do that, I googled the word Wikipedia. Okay. So maybe I'm not the right person for the job, but I googled, I wrote Wikipedia into Google
Starting point is 00:17:55 and press search, and then it came with lots of information about Wikipedia. So hang on, I've got a better way of doing this. Okay, here we go. So there's four of us in the room. Yes. I go on, say for example, I say Oscar winner that year, best picture, right?
Starting point is 00:18:12 So we get to 2010, I say best picture was this, like so we all have won. And I've seen something that happened in 1804. Yeah, and that way then, it's like we have a snapshot around the year that is an all this was negative news sure here we go Parry the year is 2010 2010 Best film was the King's speech Nominated up there with 127 hours and black swan Oh Should have been black Black Swan, right?
Starting point is 00:18:48 Don't know. I don't know that. I did like the Queen. Look at the King's Beach. It was good. We were still getting very drunk to watch the Oscars back then. That was that we'd have make a big night of it, wouldn't we? That's right, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:03 What was the last... What's the last year we did the Big Oscars party? I reckon we were doing it until about 25... ...dee, 2014. No, it's only in that. Do you think? Yeah, because we stopped doing it when we were doing battles. Oh, yeah. Because we thought, we, should we do it for that year?
Starting point is 00:19:27 That was the last time we did it. So it would have been 2012, we stopped doing it. Wow. Yeah. Possibly. I mean, I still. When I count. You still when you can't stay up all night and get drunk.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Yeah, that's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Of course, of course, of course. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just, yeah. Of course, of course, you do. Of course, you do. Just watch. And old Oscars. Class of Me Headliners, we have, and this is a good year, this is, we have guerrillas filled in for you to pull down. What do you two?
Starting point is 00:20:03 It had a break. It had a break. It had a ball no end was a follow-up break. Follow-up had a back surgery. Oh my god. So it wasn't, it wasn't, it wasn't when he was filming that, when he was doing that, um, Spider-Man turn off the dark, was it? I don't know. Because didn't everybody break, it didn't everybody break, uh, limbs doing Spider-Man
Starting point is 00:20:19 turn off the dark. First production. Yeah. They tried to write a musical about Spider-Man, you two did. Oh. And people were like flying into the scenery and stuff, the flyer mechanism was all fucked up. But I know wasn't it, was it?
Starting point is 00:20:33 Well, he might have been, he might have been. I might have, he might have been. He might have been a bit. And I would have been. And I would have been. And I would have been. And I would have been. Fortunately, they went on treasants that are cut orders.
Starting point is 00:20:43 LAUGHTER LAUGHTER they went on treasants that are cut orders. LAUGHTER LAUGHTER LAUGHTER Felt right off the edge of the stage. Yeah! It was in a curse production, then. Is that what happened? Yeah, it was in just rubbish.
Starting point is 00:21:00 No, it went massively over budget. And then also a few people got, a few people got quite badly injured because the old flying mechanisms didn't work when they, so like, a curse production is no fun unless it's a horror film. I don't think a curse production is fun even if it is a horror film. Yeah, but it adds to the kind of horror. It's quite cool. Yeah, it adds to the misty, like there was loads with the excess, weren't there? And when I was younger, I was convinced. I was like, oh, it's because they were really like.
Starting point is 00:21:27 I thought it was... I thought it was poltergeist. Wasn't poltergeist, everyone died as well. I think that has a lot of died as well. Yeah, poltergeist had a big... Yeah, that was a big curse production. Can we try and get a rumor going that this is a curse podcast? I think I did the good.
Starting point is 00:21:38 I don't mean the real one. Listen to the deer. If something bad's happened to you, whilst you're listening to this podcast... I don't know if this is a good opportunity. I'll put it in my tunes with a five-star review. No, I like it. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:21:51 So, I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it.
Starting point is 00:21:59 I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it. I like stars, I'm dead. Yeah. Brackets from Laughing. Oh, what do you mean? No, I think the classic one, and I hate to take it back to the 20th century, guys,
Starting point is 00:22:16 but it's right there, the Crow. Yes. That was a curse production, wasn't it? It was, yeah. Yeah. Brendan Lee got shocked, didn't he it? It was, yeah. Yeah. Brendan Lee got shocked, didn't he? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Bram to the Lee. But it didn't do for the film, really, did it? Like, it's not a classic. You don't go, like, the exorcist, poltergeist, the crow. Oh, I think the crow is... Crow is a big... I think the crow is a cult classic, there. I think it's got...
Starting point is 00:22:44 It was certainly like, it was a big film when I was a teenager. All my mates went to the crore. Yeah, but it wasn't that when it came out. Was that when it came out? The 20th century. Oh, yeah, it came out the 20th century, yeah. Oh, I mean, it would have been crazy
Starting point is 00:22:58 if we've got into it before it came out. LAUGHTER Poltergeist now isn't a movie that I think people go, go back and go, that's a classic. It was big, it was big in its time, but it was also cursed. Poltergeist classic. Is it? Yeah. I think Exist's classic.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Exist definitely. Exist being... I mean, I go back to my understanding. Poltergeist classic. Exist classic, the Crow not a classic. I think, I think all three classic. I think all three classic, yeah. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:23:25 Saturday Muse. Yes. B-E. Classic I think I think all three I think all three six. Yeah, that's cool Saturday muse Yes, B.E. in my opinion and and Sunday Steve you wonder Great Hell of a year good good. Yeah very strong year 2010 winning I'm saying so So far so good. We started the deck. Well, 33 miners was successfully rescued from a brilliant miners. It's a big win. It's a big win.
Starting point is 00:23:54 And I tell you, it was a big win as well for Fiona Bruce and Ricky Whittle from Hollyoaks because they were both awarded rear of the year. Wow. It feels like was and D-Reen were top of the charts. D-Reen were top of the charts when things can only get better. Oh my God, 2010. Blair had just come into power. Blair had come into power and it was the start of a golden era. Ab fab was on our tellies.
Starting point is 00:24:19 So, 2010's a good win, right? Yeah, 2010's a good year. Come on, 2020. It might be, yeah. That good year. Come on, 2020. It might be, yeah. That's all I remember. All I remember is a bit of that. There's a few, I mean, the thing is, we are just, we're sort of accentuating the positives here. Movies, bad things did happen in 2010.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Oh, of course. Some really bad things happened in 2010. Elvis Presley died. Gone but not forgotten. We lost him. Allegedly, though. That's it. His whole life was a curse production. Some say he. Allegedly though. That's it. His whole life was a curse production.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Some say he's still in Chile. Was he still in Chile? Yeah. Some people say he died rest with the miners. He died rest with the miners. We started strong. Do you want to jump to the middle of the decade? See how we were doing?
Starting point is 00:24:59 Sure. Yeah, yeah. What's the 2015? Yeah. Best picture. Up against the big short, Bridge of Spies, yeah, yeah, what's it? 2015. Yeah. Best picture up against the big short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max, Fury Road, the Martian, the Revenant and Room.
Starting point is 00:25:11 I'm not saying not a great year. The winner was Spotlight. Good film, but none of those are, that's a mixed bag. I have to recuse myself with this category there, because I think I only saw the Martian there out of all of those movies. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:26 Read the list again. Big short. Didn't see it. Bridge of spies. Didn't see it. Brooklyn. Didn't see it. Mad Max Furrow.
Starting point is 00:25:34 Didn't see it. The Martian. Saw it. The Revenant. Didn't see it. Didn't see it. Spotlight. Saw.
Starting point is 00:25:42 Yeah. I'm not, I've seen, I just saw Saw. Seven times. That is your favourite. So, very strong movie. So, I can't say but, do you know what? Here's the thing, it's very hard to make a film. Even harder to get a film nominated for an Oscar. So, I'm going to say win.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Right? Oh my god. Actually, there's a flaw to this logic because if we do pursue this any further It does mean that every category in the Oscar nominee's category will be a win. I mean, it's a very positive outlook It's a very positive outlook and I say I say well done to all of them Who wouldn't rear of the year in 2015? Right, see if you can guess. I would say one, I'll tell you one of them, I'll tell you, the girl who won. Yes.
Starting point is 00:26:31 Kim Marsh, who you may remember was in, girls allowed. Not girls allowed, no, she was Saturdays. Not the Saturdays, she was. But on a Rama. She was in hearsay, she was in hearsay. So she was in hearsay. She was in hearsay, sorry. So she was in hearsay. So she won Rear of the Year,
Starting point is 00:26:48 and this is a classic example of, well, we'll get Kim Marsh. She was probably in Cory by that stage, or Emberdale, which I've won she's in. We've probably got her, right? Let's shoot for the moon, get a big male star, and maybe a Hollywood A-list is going to show up.
Starting point is 00:27:05 Daniel Radcliffe. Radcliffe wouldn't rear of the year. Best, have you seen that, Aarth? I don't think I have. Ah, he got it out in Equus. That's very true. He didn't get it out in Equus. Could have been the year we got it out.
Starting point is 00:27:21 Maybe that's what happened. Maybe that's what it was. That's the thing with rear of the year. You've got to be in it to win it. You've got to we got it out. Maybe that's what happened. Maybe that's what it was. That's the thing with rear of the year. You've got to be in it to win it. You've got to have got it out. You've got to have got it out. Which bag's the question, Harry? You've got your ass out on stage a few times.
Starting point is 00:27:34 Just waiting for the call. Ever had the knock? Waiting for the call. If I had the knock, that's a different thing. That is a different thing. So, headliners, I realised this was the year I wasn't there for.. No, I was there for that. I don't. I loved the who. Yeah, not a fan of the other two. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:08 Parade, you went and you loved to give us. Well, no, but you've got. I think already you're looking at 2015 saying this is not a classic year. Kanye is a Saturday headliner at Glastonbury. Radcliffe winning. Radcliffe winning rear of the year. Spotlight. It feels like the rear of the year.
Starting point is 00:28:23 No, no. It's way slightly that year, don't you? Yes. I feel like the decade has lost it's way this year. It's aimless. It's an aimless year. We started so strong in 2010. It has no identity.
Starting point is 00:28:36 It could be, I mean, the who, Kanye and Florence, it suggests an eclectic year, but it seems to me more like a rudderless year. Yeah, it doesn't know what it wants. Then was that because did think of me Bob, the fee fighters, they dropped out, didn't they? You dropped off the stage. Oh, why was that?
Starting point is 00:28:57 A curse production. A curse production. No, no. How can I say, how has this been a curse decade? Is that what we're discovering? Well, a curse year. No, because the whole decade... The whole decade. Bono dropped out of the last lot of...
Starting point is 00:29:08 Yeah, that's true. ...2010. So, is that the year when he... It's like what happens. He leaps... Lawrence, yeah, they were supposed to do the Friday night. Yeah. And because he'd fallen off the stage,
Starting point is 00:29:19 he'd walk in his leg. Oh, my God. Doing for the musical. He was really... Musical. Yeah, that's right. Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins were writing a musical all about Thor. I can use leg doing for the musical. He was doing musical. He was doing what? Yeah, that's right. Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins were writing a musical all about Thor. And unfortunately, the hammer fell.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Hammer fell on his leg. The hammer fell on his leg. Right on his big toe. Florence was amazing stepping up on the fire. But you've got to think Kanye was, he's a difficult old soul, isn't he? He is a difficult old soul. Ended with Bohemia Rhapsody? I think so.
Starting point is 00:29:52 Did a single love of Bohemia Rhapsody? Yeah. It's always a bit of a blur by the end. Yeah. It's always the case of people who watch Glastonbury at home know it much better than the me being there. Yeah, I think as well. And then they did that and you're like, oh yeah, did they? Oh, okay, I mean I was there for that. I mean, I've forgotten some brilliant gigs.
Starting point is 00:30:14 Well, like Glastonbury, by the next morning. We saw two fighters together at Glastonbury in 2017, was it? Would it have been? And halfway through the gig, I said to Clarke, I reckon they'll end on ever long, when they'll play ever long as their final song. Clarke, you went, I think they played it. So you think they played the biggest song already, weren't?
Starting point is 00:30:38 Yeah, I think they played it. It's like, I think we would have noticed if they played it. It's like, no, Master just, we must have been just been chatting. It was like, no Clarke,'t of course they ended on ever long Youth is wasted on the young right 2019 oh hangers we didn't get a 2015 No, it's from my my apologies it was a bad year was it is there anything positive because this is a losing year the one I the most sort of well interesting upbeat kind kind of was the
Starting point is 00:31:16 hat and garden right that's it that's the most upbeat thing oh there was a baby the good princess Charlotte was born oh it's not a classic. It's not a classic. There's a lot of terrorism, that goes. Not a good year. A royal baby and a bank robbery. Yeah, Ulton Tower was right, that crashed.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Oh, well, let's not, let's just... Okay, we can establish now. Guys, so the lion was killed by the city. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, Yeah, this is not this is a bleak episode. It's an ailing decade. Well, I think it was something is 2010 it was it was some trying and lollipops. It started so strong. How's B.D. B.D. It's app between if you fancy tweeting. How's B.D. Do you want to see what the world is really like? Yes. Four things is deliciously funny and spectacularly entertaining.
Starting point is 00:32:23 A woman plotting her course to free to put in love for. It's non-stop bonkers brilliance. I love that. Poor things. It's like theaters, December 15. Starting point is 00:33:29 We skipped over 2012 as well, which was my favorite. Well, I tell you what, the best year. Let's do 2012, and then we'll do 2019, and we'll see if we can get like a, you know, see if we come out on top. Okay, I need 12. 2012, because that's a feeling good. It's just for positive, I think. The five best picture 12 years of
Starting point is 00:33:45 slave. 2012 years of slave. Should we skip 2012? No, 2012, sorry, I was slightly misleading that the best picture was Argo in 2012. Argo. Which, you know, it was up against Django, Lamey's, Life of Pi, Silverlinings Playbook. Not good, yeah. That's a bad news. Zero Dark 30. Do you know who was in Zero Dark 30? Come on. This is going to blow your mind.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Zero Dark 30. Oh yeah. The rear of the year winner was in Zero Dark 30. Honest. Yes. All right. this is how we play. I've given you the two highlights of their year. Who are they? Are they both in it?
Starting point is 00:34:34 No, no, no. One of the winners of rear of the year was in zero dark 30. 2012. I can tell you now that Shobna Galati was the lady who won, rear of the year. It's not her. Not the lady from Dino ladies. She didn't win. She didn't win. She wasn't in zero dark 30. No. The man was. Any idea. What? Oh, gentlemen. And I'll tell you now, when we went to see it, we went to see it together.
Starting point is 00:35:05 We did. And when he appeared, everybody pissed themselves laughing. I think I know who it is. And because what the fuck is he doing in this movie? James Gandalfine. No, it wasn't Gandalfine. Big call for real. It's a big call for real.
Starting point is 00:35:18 Big call for real. I mean, one year they went for quantity, not quality. They were like, he's bringing a lot, that's a lot of real. I mean, one year they went for quantity, not quality. They were like, he's bringing a lot, that's a lot of real. He's got what Scarface would call a burger. He's got a big, he's got a big, he's got a big caboose and sadly we lost him. Any idea who you think it is?
Starting point is 00:35:40 Chris Pratt. It's not Chris Pratt, no, no. Why would people crack up laughing at a person in a movie? And otherwise very serious movie. Yeah, come on. Yeah, it's on the tip of your tongue. It's on the tip of your tongue. If you've got the answer without Googling it.
Starting point is 00:35:57 It wasn't Sasha Baron Cohen. It wasn't Sasha Baron Cohen. No, he's less of a comedic figure, more of a figure of delight, I think, you'd say. He's a delight... He's the motivator. No, he's not Mr Motivator, no, he's not Mr Motivator, but I mean, I think he inhabits, to my mind, he inhabits the same world as Mr Motivator. Mr Motivator?
Starting point is 00:36:20 No, Mr Motivator. Gordon the Goat thing was... What's that Gordon? Attack at night? What are you seeing, no? That's been a really funny shot of the operations room at the White House. If that is a barmer there, Sleeze rolled up. God in the go for poppin' he said, I'm off the table.
Starting point is 00:36:41 Mmm, gone. John Barrowman. There's a scene, there's some meeting scene where John Barrowman is just in there, but like, I don't know why Barrowman suddenly pops up in zero to high 30. Absolutely blew my mind. Yeah. And did he have his ass out? He was sat down of all things.
Starting point is 00:37:02 He was, he was, he was, he was, he was, he was, he was, he sat down of all things. Maybe that's what it was. He sat the most in the world. Yeah, because rear of the year doesn't necessarily, what's it judged on? Is it judged on how well you sit down? He can't be truly judging. If it's all that he's got, all that he got by like newsreaders and stuff.
Starting point is 00:37:21 Yeah, that's true. I mean John Baramon, obviously that's, I don't think he got it for zero dog 30. He doesn't have any brackets for services to services to the national security. Okay, so we've got 2012, so far I think, movies wise, fine. Let's be honest, the best movie of 2012 was the start of... Was the Danny Boyle Extravagate?
Starting point is 00:37:48 The Olympics, yeah. Exactly. That should have got the Oscar. I am surprised that I, as a bad king, didn't get rear-of-the-earth. LAUGHTER I'm brother. Brother.
Starting point is 00:38:00 Brother. Best actor. I mean, best. Imagine releasing. Very strange. That was when you remember that that was right at the start, the only way you kind of thought all this could go by the way. The imaginary leaveers were like and then
Starting point is 00:38:15 it everything went well. I'd but hate what the imaginary leaveers was of concern was. I watched it like last month in its entire opening ceremony. And did it still hold up? Oh, so good. Yeah. It's like last month. You went to it? You went to it? I watched the entire opening ceremony. And did it still hold up? Oh, so good. Yeah. It's fantastic.
Starting point is 00:38:30 What? It absolutely holds up. It's brilliant. Who, um, is anyone in it who you think, oh, they wouldn't make it now? Brian. LAUGHTER See you, Sven.
Starting point is 00:38:43 Glass though. It's, I'd say, oh, yeah. Be your own judge. Chemical brothers, Travis and David Bowie. Travis, I had one in the pyramid stage in 2012. 2012. I don't know. In 2012.
Starting point is 00:38:59 Yeah. I remember because when the man who came out, they were the biggest band in the world, but 2012, they must have been on the... Oh, hold on. You've looked at the wrong year. Well, no, I've been trying to look it up, but something else has said it was a follow year,
Starting point is 00:39:14 but I don't know if they're just... LAUGHTER You've just no one talked about that. Karky, did you shout there? Take so many drugs you thought you saw Travis. Where are they gonna play once? Always right on it. No, K, Clark, it's just raining. Travis is on here.
Starting point is 00:39:31 Yeah, maybe it wasn't on. Okay, right. I can carry that by saying the biggest song of the year was Gangnam style. Whoopa Gangnam style. I mean, everyone was feeling good. You're watching the Olympics, you're dancing along to Gangnam Style. Yeah, he's sexy like that. You're seeing that John Baramun has achieved the twin goals
Starting point is 00:39:52 of being cast in a Catherine Bigelow movie. And also, is it Catherine Bigelow? Is it like 30? Yes. Well, I think it was the hurt locker. No, I think it was Bigelow. And also, of course, rear of the year. What's a good bit of news from that year? Well, I was going to go with the Olympics, but it's for mentioned. So Jimmy Savo, investigation.
Starting point is 00:40:15 Oh, right. Oh, Jesus Christ. No, they listen to that, man. We give it a mic for one at a time. I'm sorry to hear it out. This is out of your place. Oh, bring it on there, man. It's been a cursed podcast. Right. Final, finaly. This is, so what have we got? We've got... Glastonbury 2012 was cancelled due to a lack of portaloo's and police officers caused by the London Olympics.
Starting point is 00:40:38 So it was one or the other. You can't have both. Can't have both. So what are we saying? I'm also Brano. Brano committed himself to the opening ceremony of Olympics. So he couldn't. Instead of Blastinbury.
Starting point is 00:40:49 So he couldn't introduce the Kaiser chiefs. He could assemble the pyramids. That is shit. But in Thailand, I'm actually leaving. So I'm not good now. Where are they? Lay lines, Brano. So that's it.
Starting point is 00:41:04 That's why. OK, so what are we saying to 2012? Are we saying good year or? It's got me a good year. It's got to be a good year, but I mean, Travis Ronic Glaston Bridge. Travis were cancelled at Glaston Bridge, so good year. Oh, we did last show ever.
Starting point is 00:41:21 We did a lot of fun. I was trying to'm strong for puppies. And we got a series. And we started bad olds. So, you know, it's pretty good. Yeah. So, what we're saying, we said the decades now back up. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:37 Well, no, yeah, but the thing is we've got back in time to make it to make it good. OK. 2010 winning, 2012 winning, 2015 losing. OK, so what do you think? 2017 and 2019 to decide whether it's right. I think so, yeah. OK, here we go.
Starting point is 00:41:52 OK, shoot out. 2017. I'll start straight away. Rachel Riley, Idris Elba. Oh, hello. Oh, now we're talking. Things are looking up, and not just their butt cheeks. You're looking up their butt cheeks.
Starting point is 00:42:08 How far is the vetting process? Is it like crafts? They have to jump on a table and the guy can't even go, hmm, hmm, hmm, kind of flicks around. Flicks around Idris Elba's butt cheeks. I don't think that's fair. Albert and Riley. Great pair. Yeah, of course. Yeah, that's brilliant. Two great pairs. Two great pairs, absolutely. Two great pairs, absolutely. And obviously Idris Elba seems like a very nice guy, Rachel Rides cancelled.
Starting point is 00:42:47 So, who was it was in the 2017? Yes. Three billboards, the post, Lady Bird, Get Out, Done Kirk, Darkest Hour, Call Me By Your Name, The Winner Was, The Shape of Water. The Shape of water. Do you know what though? I think generally on the whole, those were, which is by the way, on the whole,
Starting point is 00:43:11 it's how they rate so rear of the ears. But generally on the whole, I think, a good year? A good year for films. So I really do a lot. We're back up. A good year for Rears. A good year for Rear.
Starting point is 00:43:21 A good year for films. How was Chris Rear to be a good year for Chris Rear? Roads of Hell, back in the charts? Oh, famously, riding high in the charts. Uh, Clarky. Check this out. Was there a bass in me that year? It was.
Starting point is 00:43:34 I went to it. You did. So it was, it was a food fight. No, it was radio head food fighters. I hope you're getting closer with Everlast. Eddie Boyce here and it was. Yeah, it was. So I would say, good. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:50 I mean, I didn't watch Ed Sheeran. I have to open Palms for honesty here. I didn't watch Ed Sheeran because it's not really my cup of tea. I like artists to stick within their genre. I like to watch a band, like Foo Fighters, who, I don't know if they've played their biggest song. They may have done, they may not. To me, they all sound the same,
Starting point is 00:44:08 and everyone is a stone-cold classic. Good call. Thanks, mate. OK, 2017 is looking up. OK, hold on. Oh, no. Here it comes. No, no. Here it comes. It comes doom and gloom caution,
Starting point is 00:44:20 shaking ahead, refreshing the BBC News app. It was bad. Was it bad? What happened? Give us... What was a good one? There's the BBC news app. It was bad. What's it bad? What happened? Give us, what was a good one? There's no good news there. No. No. There's a lot of terrorism. All right, let's move on.
Starting point is 00:44:38 There's a lot. Oh my god. This is awesome. Of course. God's sake. No. A gay man, John Walker wins a landmark ruling at the Supreme Court, giving his husband the same pension rights as a wife would receive, there you go, there's a good one.
Starting point is 00:44:55 There we go. So equality and pension law. Yes. I mean, it's what we all know at full. It's fantastic news, equality and pension law. Let's forget about the exoterrorism. Okay, so we're calling that a, is that as hard now as net,
Starting point is 00:45:11 should we start with caution in the future? I think so. It's a hell of, we did have it underlining with the year. It's exactly what I said. When we floated this idea, was it isn't news, just bleak. News is generally bleak.
Starting point is 00:45:25 We're having great sport with rear of the year, loving the films, loving the glassary headline, even the year it was fallow, was more entertaining. Even the year when there was no glassary, it was better news than there's been a lot of terrorism. A lot of terrorism. Solar wind and nuclear power, each provide more electricity than gas and coal combined for the first time ever in the UK.
Starting point is 00:45:46 There we go. Thank you very much. That's all we need to know. And everyone died. Facing for hundreds of terrorism, by the way. We should mention lots of terrorism. Lots of terrorism. All right. It's a Manchester Arena. Okay, we can start with this.
Starting point is 00:46:03 We can start with this. Rainer. Okay, okay, we can do it. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, The headlight's a classic. Green book won the best film. That's not classic yet. Not a classic yet. For him in Rhapsody. Problems. And Black Panther. No. The famous. I like Black Class as well. That's a born vice.
Starting point is 00:46:32 It's not a classic yet, I don't think. No, not a classic yet. I like Star is born. So that's a tricky one, sure. What about, what about Glasto? Well, Glasto. Okay, so Friday night with Storm's day, which was brilliant. Saturday night was the killers, and Sunday night was the kill.
Starting point is 00:46:55 Did you watch either of those? I saw the last three songs for the killers, and they've been ever long three times. You can believe it. Obviously they finished with Mr Brightside two before that were other people coming on and doing. Oh yeah, Johnny Mark came on and did this Charlie Mann. Johnny Mark did. Johnny Mark did.
Starting point is 00:47:12 And what did you panic? What did you do? No, he did, yeah, Charlie Mann. And then, and then, Pet Shop Boys came on. Right. So yeah. Good fun. Good solid fun. Good glass last time. Sure, but it was a great
Starting point is 00:47:28 class. A strong last time. It was my favorite class, nobody so far. But it wasn't about the headline as much as the smaller stages. Sure. And the fact and the fact I couldn't make it that year. Yeah, always. Yeah, he calls you the smaller stages. The smaller stages wasn't there, so it was a good year. Okay. Yeah, it's fine. We haven't done rear of the ES. So that's gonna take us onto new heights. I think these are both gettable.
Starting point is 00:47:57 Okay. A big top name. Not necessarily a big but, quite small but, quite a small person, but not necessarily a big but quite small buts from quite a small person But a big name All they're famous for sitting down Because she is a she's a she's a she's a TV judge Oh
Starting point is 00:48:18 So it's gonna be Cheryl it's not Cheryl I don't I, I think Cheryl unfortunately has written herself out of the rear of the year. By having that big rose tattoo. The rose tattoo. I think that was a desperate attempt to get rear of the year. Maybe she thought it was the year of the ink.
Starting point is 00:48:35 Sadly not. What was the year of the ink? What was the year of the ink? Let's have a look. What? What is going on? Just going to go back through. I think it must have been, it was 1981 when they gave it to Felicity Kendall. Back to the 20th century. You've got to go all the way back.
Starting point is 00:48:53 Felicity Kendall famously has the police tatted across her ass. So, TV judge not Cheryl. Oh, Clark, you won't guess this because you couldn't guess it in flat-sland the other day. I... There we go. LAUGHTER Who is it? It's Amanda Holden. But again, I think a slightly higher profile...
Starting point is 00:49:21 A slightly higher profile gentleman, sports personality. Tim. You're almost there. And you're very. It's Andy Murray. Finally. I appreciate it. I appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:49:34 Finally, I mean, finally appreciate by the British public. Finally appreciate by the British public. Of course he won Sports Personality of the Year, but who cares about that? He's got the big one. He's got the big one. You've got the big one. That's when it says on the envelope's got the big one. He's got the big one. You've got the big one. That's when it says on the envelope, when you open it up.
Starting point is 00:49:47 Congratulations. You've got the big one. Is there any listener listening who can black us tickets to the rear of the year ceremony? Because we are happy to... Is there a ceremony? Yeah. We could do a live recording.
Starting point is 00:50:00 I think it's outdoors though. So I think we could just show up to it. It's like, time square. Why is the ceremony outdoors for the rear of the year? I think because... I think because it's less of a ceremony, more of a Roger Cook style ambush, where they run down the street with an award and hand it to Andy Murray. Before he has a chance to, you know,
Starting point is 00:50:25 for Judy to kick you in the shins. They take a photograph and they put it on their website. And do we want some news? We don't, but Emma's going to give us the news anyway. Yeah, you can see she's looking fresh. Is there anything positive that's come out of the year at all apart from Andy Murray's big win? Um. No. Okay. So.
Starting point is 00:50:53 Ha ha ha. Emma's still scrolling. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.
Starting point is 00:51:10 Well, I think they're in Lies the Rub. So, no. We've got a vote on the decade, I guess, from that. 2010. Good. 2012. Good. 2015. We're on the turn. 2017. 2017 tricky. Small upswing.
Starting point is 00:51:25 But it's not hang on. Small upswing if we ignore the terrorism. If we ignore the news. 29. Yes, that is a very, you make a very strong 29. 29. We're not even allowed to read the news because we know it's bad. Yeah, it's bad.
Starting point is 00:51:41 Basically, you're, you're, you're, OK, let's, let's, OK. Basically, you'll listening. OK, let's listen. Basically, you'll enjoy any year if you just judge it by film and music. That's actually not a bad way of looking at it. And arses. And arses.
Starting point is 00:51:59 That's what we need to focus on. The Holy Trinity, near but far-hand business. Celluloid right vinyl and flesh But if you if you listen in in a second we'll do our our countdown to the new year because this comes out on the 31st Yes We're gonna do our countdown And then that will that will usher in the new year. Brave new decade. And what is going to be listening to this?
Starting point is 00:52:28 I believe they will. I believe they will. Now, we have ruined a party. No, this has got the party started. I've heard it. I've heard it. I've heard it. I've heard it.
Starting point is 00:52:41 I've heard it. I've heard it. I've heard it. I've heard it. I've heard it. I've heard it. I've heard it. I've heard it. I think this is our feeling for the approaching new decades. If you embrace the arts, if the arts, and you embrace the arts, you'll have a fantastic 10 years. What do you think of that? I like it.
Starting point is 00:53:00 Lean deep into both. That's it. Well, delve into both and you will have the most wonderful decade. I'm going to say, is there an argument to attempt to make real life as good as it is portrayed in film and music so that the news can be better as well? That's. Otherwise, we're escaping real life to... It's escapism. And maybe we should be looking at transforming... OK, so it's going on. So rather than holding yourself away in a cinema,
Starting point is 00:53:36 get out onto the streets, activism, and make real life like the Avengers. You know, we're not suggesting vigilante justice here. Because we know, you know, Bono and Fufo is as dangerous. You're lenders of injured. Another fellow year at Glaston Bridge. Branagh, full of undrupportaloo. Paul Theron, Lever.
Starting point is 00:54:01 They fallowed over. The wrong lever. They fallowed over. So yeah, so get out on the streets, guys, and campaign, campaign, campaign. And maybe 2020, they'll have three winners of the year. And we're right here. And it'll be, it'll be right here. And in fact, you know what? Caution as well.
Starting point is 00:54:22 Four, four, four, four, four, biggest arses of the year,. Four pieces of the year. The four biggest arses of the year. The four arses of the apocalypse. LAUGHTER The arse vengeance. We did it everyone. We did it. Well, happy new decade.
