Greetings, listener there.
Sorry, we were just talking about films.
I'm Tom.
I'm Ben.
I am Matthew.
And if you are a film buff, you're going to love this episode.
We really get into the weeds on all of our favourite directors.
And spoiler alert, some of them are from the last 18 months.
You're not going to believe it.
We finally talk about, I mean, Jurassic Park does get mentioned.
Of course it does.
Because I have to say something at some point.
But we do talk about some more recent movies, some more recent directors.
and I think we really set the film world to rights.
We do.
You know, it comes close.
It comes close to arguing, but never.
It always stays friendly.
It stays cordial.
It's a heated discussion.
There's passion.
Shut up.
Yeah.

Also comment as well, because we like seeing those comments,
even if they're slightly scathing as one on TikTok.
Go on.
Wanted on TikTok said...
Are we all right?
We're going to be okay.
But it said,
boring podcast.
Nice,
they might be Giants t-shirt,
though.
You know what?
I'm all right with that.
I commented,
thanks for the feedback.
It's really weird for a guy wearing
a they might be giant's t-shirt
to be boring.
That's odd, isn't it?
If I see someone
to wear that they might be Giants T-shirt,
I make a B-line to him
for some scintillating chat.
Well, they might be giants is something that might be said in the film, The Odyssey.
It was a movie actually, guys.
It was a name of a movie.
There you go.
There we go.
And it's a line of dialogue that might be said in The Odyssey,
which is something we discuss in this episode.
Are you going to see The Odyssey at the cinema?
Oh, yeah.
I want to I-Max it.
I think someone needs to tell Christopher Nolan that he's got a rain in here.
I'd like not talk about it.
Oh, this is.
That is movies are too.
long. It's three hours. You know, he prints out emails. You know, he doesn't do emails.
No, I didn't know this. So he's wasteful of our time and paper. His people print out, if you email
Chris Van Olin or whatever, they print them out and give it to him to read because he doesn't do
emails. Oh, come off. But you do. But you do emails, though. You can't be like, I don't do
emails, but I will read a printed email. You're doing emails, just in a much less economic way.
I think...
Joey's on set.
He doesn't use the little screens.
He gets him to print it out for him.
He has a guy sketching it like in the courtroom.
He says, what does this look like?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, just do that for two and a half hours.
Everyone's saying it's God-like genius film.
Right.
And I think it's going to be boring.
I think he's a boring man.
And I think for some reason, no one's got the balls to tell him he's boring.
Well, I've tried to email him.
It's not getting through people.
Wait ages for that reply.
Fucking pigeon arrives.
Is he still basically using the fax machine?
I mean, I don't know.
He wangs on a lot about stuff, then it's like,
and then Matt Damon...
I don't, listen, by the way, wangs on a lot about stuff.
That's a dangerous glass house.
You're throwing those stones around it.
It's like, oh, it's on this film, it's this massive film,
and it's been filmed on this film.
No, it isn't.
Yeah, because it's exciting to talk.
Tom Cruise and Matt Damon.
It's not exciting to me
or anyone normal.
Oh, wow, oh, wow, wow, wow, okay.
This is, I think,
I think shooting, I do think shooting on film
is in its own way,
is in its own way quite exciting, right?
To Matt Damon.
No, what you want about?
It's Crosby, actually, Crosby.
Matt Damon hasn't recovered from the DVD industry
collapsing.
We talked about that recently.
Who knows?
You show me an interview where Matt Damon doesn't mention
that the DVD industry collapsed
and he used to bring him loads of money.
He's never not wanging on about it.
He fucking loves to wang on about it.
He used to do a great business at a car boot fair, didn't he?
Every Sunday him and Ben Affleck would open up the boots.
And Ben Affleck does it as well, the two of them.
Yeah.
It's because everybody had Goodwill hunting on DVD.
The DVD money, man.
We need the DVD money back.
And it's like they see Nolan and they're like,
are this boring old sod's going to try and get everyone back into the cinema so it's like well
we'll back him and then you get fucking crews being like yeah man and it's like really though
come on there was one one full sentence there there was no like literally no point you were like
and then and then fucking along comes fucking benicia del torro and he's like uh and then it's like
poor Thomas Anderson's around the corner and he's run up where you know needs
tarantino's got a fucking and then you know next
you know, we're watching a fucking four hour long,
you know, she'd kill bills in two parts.
Yes, mate, I agree with every word.
Finally, you're talking some sense.
You're listening to the Empire podcast.
Amen.
Yes.
Now, look, I am in the film and it's true myself,
honestly, where I eat.
That's true.
That's true you are.
You've made some films yourself.
Too late, mate.
You've made a few films.
But crucially, you kept them to a reasonable length.
It's why me and Nolan never sit next to each other at awards ceremonies.
Right.
I did wonder about that.
You know, in fact, I let him, like, I keep my distance and I say, no, no, I'm the bigger man.
Let Nolan go.
Yeah.
No one sits next to you in.
I'm not going to fit in that seat.
I'm going to have it.
Actually, is every chance I go get two seats here?
Yeah, I'm my own plus one.
Weirdly, Tom's his own seat for that.
You got to say, rain it in Nolan, three hours.
Come on now.
You know what?
I do agree with you that I think, you know, I don't.
I don't think the film should...
I never watch a film and think, oh, fantastic.
That was exactly the right length it should be.
Yeah.
You know, what that really needed was the last hour and 20 minutes.
You know, you never, you never think...
It is called the fucking Odyssey, though.
Yeah.
Like, it can't be...
I wish it was called the fucking Odyssey.
The fucking Odyssey.
Christopher Nolan presents the Fucking Odyssey.
Listen, we don't want the Odyssey.
You want the Shortesty is what we want.
Yeah.
Is there another one that came out really recently that was about the Odyssey?
saying it.
Troy.
No.
That's Troy.
Well, Troy.
Also, do you mean like the Brad Pitt one?
Yeah.
That's like 20 years old, isn't it?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like we say, really recently.
Okay.
By the way, the fact that we're talking about the Odyssey is still pretty impressive for us, right?
Even though it's, you know, that's been out for a little while.
Is it?
That's impressive for us, isn't it?
Yeah.
I thought our idea of a recent film.
is the second Jurassic Park movie.
The Lost World.
The last decade, well, like.
Yeah.
Well, anyway.
Anyway, I have a word with Nolan.
Anyway.
You're absolutely right.
The first thing you've got to say to me is just be normal.
Just rain it in, mate.
Just.
Why are you so not normal?
And it's like we had to build a camera just to make this film.
It's like, yeah, they didn't.
There's loads of good cameras to make this film.
Oh, uh.
You're annoying me.
Well, go on, go on then, Clarkie.
What's the counter argument for it?
Well, I don't think it's going to be funny, but it's all done in IMAX and no,
no film has ever shot all in IMAX.
So you go and see you're filming on IMAX, certain shots are IMAX and a lot of the other shots
aren't.
So it's going to look amazing in IMAX because it's all done dedicated in IMAX.
And the reason people don't shoot everything in IMAX is because the cameras are too big
and they're too loud.
So they've invented smaller ones and quieter ones.
and that's cool.
It's not cool.
Do you know what they go, right?
I think it's quite cool.
No, look, they stick these pictures and they go,
if you see a normal set, if it's 70mm or whatever,
all you see is this.
But in IMAX, you see this,
and it's like, oh, I see the top of the hat.
Oh, well, big whoop.
It's like, you don't see the top of Matt Damon's helmet.
Come on.
It's a film about, like, here's the top of the helmet.
It's like, well, my brain's quite good at telling me
the fucking helmet's got a top on it.
I'm not going to lose fucking sleep
over that. What's the guy in the helmet
doing and saying? Yeah.
And also, hey, listen, if you're wearing
a hat, stand back a little bit.
Stand back a bit, exactly. There we go. We can get the hat in now.
I'm going to say, you're telling me, Nolan, just fucking
come back on the camera. Matt Damon's got a
forehead and a chin. This is new to me.
I would never watch it in IMAX before.
Look at that, no way.
The top of the ship's masked and it's like,
well, we all fucking know. But the thing is,
that's what they're doing there is they have to do
that because they're basically saying
going to an...
They're showing this to you not in an IMAX
cinema, right?
They're saying if you're watching in IMAX
you'd see this.
Yeah.
But they're giving you an idea,
like a sort of...
If you paid 48 pounds
for a cinema ticket,
then you get to see
the fucking fingers when he waves.
It's like, well,
do you know what?
By the way...
I'll stand 20 quid and know
that he's waving.
Thank you.
What, Paffe news, really,
you watching an IMAX
where people are waving off a...
Oh, there they go.
They're all leaving the dark now
and the Titanic's maiden noise.
And they're waving their hat
To be it.
This is what it's like in the Southwest.
You've just had that video of the train going to the tunnel.
Oh, my gosh.
Yeah.
But I just think, you know, it's a racket is what I'm saying.
Yeah.
All right.
The problem is with the discussion like this is that, Clark, you, you care very deeply
about the, about celluloid.
Imagine me saying, right, you've got to, have you read this book?
Oh, the paper's amazing.
Oh, my God.
The paper is so good.
Oh, it's like, as you're turning the page.
It'd be like, imagine watching this film.
And it's like, the visuals are amazing.
Yeah.
You go, oh yeah, that's good because that's what films like.
But imagine to this record.
The production is amazing, right?
Or you go, you know, looking at like a vista.
And then you go like, just looking it through a small window.
It's the same difference.
What they do and what they're saying.
It's part of it.
What's your algorithm?
What they say?
And also you're going to be watching like big epic battles
where you'll see like loads of stuff, not a hat.
What, Matt Damon's not wearing a hat in the honesty.
You're telling me that at no point is a hat.
No point he's wearing a hat.
That's your point.
That's your point.
That's your point.
I bet you an I max cinema ticket.
I bet you the cost of an I matth cinema ticket.
Matt Damon wears a five.
hat in the Odyssey.
And it's mad that you're saying otherwise.
Listen to yourself, Clark.
It's mad.
Sorry. You've got me there.
I heard, this might be wrong,
but I heard the camera that they built is the hat.
Am I wrong?
And Mr. No one is just walking around
with a big old stove by Pat.
Just looking, he's staring straight.
He's like pointing to get up someone going,
Matt, you talk now.
All right, yeah.
It's a lot like the kind of...
It's like his meta glasses.
Like meta glasses.
You're not secretly filming me, are you?
No, Nolan's IMAX classes.
Why are you wearing a neck brace, Christopher?
Don't worry about this.
Just do that monologue one more time.
I did not get your emails.
It's like, oh God.
She turned into a robot as well.
Yeah, probably.
Probably.
That sounds bloody like Nolan.
Boring old Nolan.
How can he be that boring when you...
Is his brother a hitman?
What?
I'm pretty sure
Nolan's brother got sent prison
for like
killing someone for the mafia.
What?
Yeah?
I think you're right.
Yes.
Or is he...
Is the...
Because these other brothers
are writer, right?
Yes.
So they're free of them.
Yeah, because he's written
a bunch of his films with his other brother.
So that was a Nolan brother.
brothers, wasn't it? And then the Nolan sisters.
They were musicians.
But one of them was a,
one of them was an assassin. Yeah.
And one of them married Billy Wright.
Yep. One of them married Shane Ritchie.
Billy Wright? Yeah.
Nothing for Shane Ritchie.
Absolutely nothing for Shane Ritchie.
Feeling pretty small right now, guys. I wish I was in IMAX,
quite frankly.
There are, there are two statues outside the Molladier.
One of them is Billy Wright.
The other.
No one knows
Who's this guy?
Well, no one's saying who's this guy?
Come on, man.
Everyone's saying it's Shane Ritchie.
It's Alfie Moon.
Of course they're saying.
Ooy, ooy, o'oy.
Well, anyway.
But anyway, you had something you want to say something, Clarkie.
Do you know what happened there?
Clarkie said, I've got to start for the, for the episode.
And the second you drew breath,
probably went, I'll tell you, you guys to be the right asshole,
Christopher Nolan.
I went, here we go.
Here we go.
Again, we've had this conversation.
And I know, obviously, every other thing we had.
He keeps making, he keeps making new films.
He keeps making new films.
Yeah, exactly.
We had this when Tenet came out, very, very upset.
Oh, yeah.
I saw Tenet with Tom.
I got both barrels on the way out of the cinema.
He said, I didn't understand.
Tom's leaving statement on that.
Still gets me to this day.
He came out, he went, I didn't understand a thing in that film.
Yeah.
So then I'm like, oh, well, what it was.
so I then explain a bit
That's not what he wanted to hear
I know
Oh but I'd explain a bit
And he go
Yeah I know that
And I'm out
Oh and then well what about this
I'll like explain another bit
Yeah I know that
So like you understood the film
You didn't like the film
That's what I didn't understand why
Is what he meant
Not I didn't understand what
One of the stupidest things
I've ever seen in my life tenet
Yeah but then all his films are stupid
He makes silly movies
Inceptions a silly movie
It's like for
He makes fun, silly movies
Dress like us.
Ten, it is not fun.
It's fun in bits.
It gets a bit...
It's seen a car chase in reverse and forward at the same time.
Great fun.
That's great fun to me anyway.
Go on Tom.
Give me the abs of the ass.
I know it does, yeah.
Something about it rubs you the wrong way.
What rubs me the wrong way is Nolan
fucking drew it on his blackboard
and he would have been a blackboard
with a chalk and gone.
And he stood back and gone
and he'd probably been fucking turgid and gone,
I'm great there, look at that.
Do you mean he's standing up right or had a boner, both?
Boner.
Yeah, okay.
He's stood up twice.
I'm so clever here doing that.
Got to tell someone and I'll write it down and post them on the back of a postcard.
I'll write to my brother in prison.
Look how clever I am, mate.
And his brother would be like your fucking next.
Carry on like that.
I'm going to hire, no, look, I'm going to hire your brother.
that to kill you.
Now that's a film.
Here we go.
Here we go.
Here we go.
You see we got a fucking Nguyen right here?
Doesn't need to be on,
doesn't need to be on IMAX.
And you know what?
It doesn't need to start with the end.
And the start and the end are in the middle.
And it doesn't have to be on fucking
IMAX,
70mm film,
because you could feel the texture of the print.
No one's saying.
No, no, Matt, David.
You're inventing these documents.
No one's there licking the screen or rubbing their dick on it.
Also, Tom Cruise is.
Also, the Matt David thing was he was saying that it was about the films
about him getting money.
He's like films have to be these massive, big, bankable things now
because there's no cult films because films can't make money later on in the process
and find a second audience.
I know the hard work in the film industry.
I'm like, you'd love it if your films are TV.
I jest.
I guess.
I know if Matt's.
Christopher are listening.
Of course.
They will be.
They will be.
And I would love to make a DVD with you, Matt.
Straight to get that industry back out.
Straight to DVD.
I've got DVD playing my shirt now.
There you go.
That's it about this last time.
No.
I'm moving to DVDs.
So wait, wait, hang in a sec.
So Matt David has got his little claws into you.
Well.
You saw it.
You thought if you got,
I can't beat him, join them.
No, I had to watch something that was,
I could only find on DVD.
The Martian?
Was it the Martian?
Was it?
bought a zoo?
He bought DVD player.
What was it that you saw?
What was it you had to watch on DVD?
Tom, it's not your niche pornography.
Now do you find it on DVD?
No, it's just I had to watch a film and I can only find it on DVD.
And I was like, I've got a DVD player.
And I've just got a new telly in my shed.
And I was like, oh, hello, I could now get back into curating DVD.
I could get a DVD collection.
Go out to the Chazas, get us, buy them up.
Yeah.
Get online.
The thing is we don't, like, you know, we don't own anything, right?
We don't own anything.
You know, you've got your Kindle, you don't own those books.
Oh, yeah.
I don't own a Kindle.
Don't own a Kindle.
Let's go one step further.
Tom, I don't own any of books.
I take your point and I see, I raise you, I can't read.
So I don't own any books for that reason.
But yeah, no, you don't own any of your, you know, you don't own your, you know, any of
the films. So, oh, I want to watch... We didn't buy a zoo. We didn't. Yeah.
Don't own games anymore. You don't own games anymore. You don't, you don't own
Adobe Acrobat. You don't own that anymore. That's it.
All of these things, everything's a subscription. Everything's alone. Everything's alone, isn't it?
And... They don't want to pull the rug. Not these. Not these episodes.
There we go. Listen to deer, they're yours. You've got them.
No one's taking them away. And they're not on IMAX.
Not true either. We've taken a few away. We've taken a few away. We've had to take a few away.
And we needed to do that top, actually.
The last episode,
well, it was when Tenet came out,
we had to take that one away.
Yeah.
This isn't on IMAX, isn't it?
It was, it was.
I thought you could see the top of my hat.
That's how you can tell.
If they move up and the hat does go into a point,
you're like, whoa,
I didn't know what the top of his hat looked like.
He's got a propeller on it.
Listen to dear, if you're ever stuck wondering,
is this thing I'm watching on IMAX?
Just ask yourself, can I see the top of the hat?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Physical media is what we're talking about.
We are.
We're talking about getting back into physical media.
Yeah.
And I like it.
Absolutely.
But I also don't think I can be fucked.
The problem is space in it.
What would Nolan say about that?
What are you to make interstellar?
Never seen that one, I'm sorry.
Carty's got a bookshop, but Matthew McConaughey is behind it, floating.
He's lit all his books.
Oh my God, interstellar.
I thought that was, I laughed all the way through.
It was so funny.
I've never seen interstellar because you two saw it and hated it so much.
No, I didn't hate it.
I thought it was very silly.
I didn't hate it.
I just thought it was very silly movie.
But, and then ever since I've been like, I've never watched that because, you know, Tom Matthew told me.
Two people who know fuck all.
But also, like, also I like films of his that you haven't liked.
So then I'm like, well, why am we're taking your word for it?
Yeah, don't take our word for it.
But I still kind of think with it,
I think the people who really like interstellar,
I don't know.
I tell you, lads, I'm interstellar.
Artoe R to R.
Right, that's,
Bill arm's just gone off.
Yeah, boy.
Yeah, boy.
Yeah, boy.
Not bad, eh?
Yeah.
I'm great, actually.
Yeah, go on, go on.
Lads, I'm interstellar.
McCartney.
Oh, he's going to do a different kind of one.
Well, I'm sure she'll be delighted.
We should have...
We shouldn't look like if you know you dress.
We should have taken that alarm upon its offer.
The...
Oh dear.
The reviews are in anyway.
Anyway, for a second...
Didn't we for a second stop talking about Christopher Nolan?
And they'd start talking again.
I remember thinking, oh, I'm feeling a real sense of calm here.
We've stopped about Christopher Nolan.
We...
We teneted it.
We teneted it.
Yeah.
The problem was...
We started going back through it.
Do you know what I did?
What did you do?
Drank tenet points of interstell.
Okay.
Stop, stop, stop.
Tenet Super.
Tenet Super.
It's a stellar artois.
It's the Christopher Nolan drinking game.
Oh, yeah.
A prestige gin and tonic.
Tom, have a lie down.
Clarkie, you've had a starting point for the episode, I believe.
We really should get this episode started.
Any second hour my love just gone off.
That man, but gin and tonic.
That's not bad.
What do you want me to say?
That's good.
Because you pointed at me there and I really was a bit,
I didn't know what to say.
Batman Vigin and Tonic.
Yeah.
Batman Virgin and Tonic.
I'll give you that.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
It's good, isn't it?
Yeah.
Anyway, sadly, my starter was the prestige gin and tonic.
So.
That is unfortunate.
That is a real.
It's a real shame.
I had seen it in your notes on your phone.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, you got me there, actually.
What physical media, did you reckon?
You've got you on vinyl?
Yes, I've got some vinyl, yeah, yeah.
Which my kids are getting very, very excited about.
Yes.
And their favourite record is jazz and Dave's jamboree.
And they put it on.
And it's one of those albums where you get the songbook and it starts.
And then the entire first half is one song,
just going into a bunch of different company songs.
And they love it.
And I will say one thing.
Charlie finds it challenging to parent
with full blast for an hour.
Fair enough, that is a bit intense.
Yeah, I love a cockney knees up.
I do.
Sometimes I get that way with when the spin cycles
going on the washing machine,
I'm working from home,
it feels like I don't realize it's happening,
but I start getting like really kind of like
head up and frantic.
It tends to your body up, yeah.
It feels like they...
Does it sound like Snoopy?
The films.
You know, the trend of films that are...
Like, the soundtrack is just drums.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Don't get me started.
I knew it would.
I knew.
It feels like that.
It's trailers where...
Everything's rhythmical.
The words come up one at a time
on the beat of the thing.
So it'll be like the title...
Doon, doon, do...
Yeah, yeah.
whatever like it.
Then they show the fucking,
why did they shoot it all in IMAX?
Why did they shoot it all from above?
You really get the full
majesty.
Doesn't need to zoom out?
Exactly.
Oh boy.
Yeah, it is that.
But yeah,
but yeah, rhythmical adverts.
Serious man, it started with, right?
Yeah.
Great, great advert.
great trailer and then ever since then
everyone's like, are we going to do that?
I'm serious, man.
Serious man.
That every trailer is like,
oh,
junk,
gung,
gong,
oh,
yeah,
you are right.
And you go,
fucking out we're a film podcast now.
We're a cultural man.
Even in cinema,
watching all the adverts before the film
and you're like,
they all look the same
because they're all doing the same
fucking trick.
Whereas if you watch a trailer,
if they're all good,
they'll watch.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
If you watch a trailer from the 80s,
right? If you ever go, like, watching old trailer from the 80s,
you've got Red Pepper or some gravely voiced guy
who will tell you the entire plot of cocktail.
They will show you, it starts really well,
something goes badly, but it turns out all right,
and you get a real sense of what the film is.
Do you know what he did that? What? Ten it?
Exactly, yeah. I need to go,
there's a film that the end is at the start,
and then this way, that guy is actually battling himself here from the past.
You'd be like, thank you very much.
Now I can enjoy the bloody film.
You think Christopher Nolan invented the reel?
You know how like, you know,
an Instagram reel will start with the bit
that you're getting towards.
Do you think he invented the real?
He's only complained, obviously.
It should be two and a half hours long.
Why is your real a minute?
Yeah.
But yeah, we're back to Christopher Nolan.
Anyway, Clarkie, you had a starting point.
You wanted to talk us through something.
Oh, no.
Come on.
We'll back you 100%.
The other thing I was interesting was...
Clarkie, we had a chance there, man.
We had a real chance.
there, man.
The vinyl, so you're in vinyl.
Final, okay, yeah, yeah.
Have you got CDs?
I've got CDs, yeah, yeah.
Have you still got a CD player?
I do have a CD player, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, interesting.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because we're thinking of going back into CDs
I love them for the family.
Yeah.
So the kids can listen to CDs in their room
because I think vinyl is a bit of a...
It's going to get trashed.
Yeah.
CDs are a bit, I mean, they're not, you know,
they're a bit more robust.
We can't go to minidisc.
You can't be going to.
Can't go to please.
Can't buy.
kids a minidisc.
You can't buy a kid.
Even though we know, someone could skateboard over them
while Reif are pitching their music.
I blow you away.
Great advert.
But one of the great adverts.
One of the worst formats.
For one of the worst formats.
It was great.
It just didn't take off.
It wasn't great.
What was wrong?
You had to.
They were more durable.
You had to sit for hours and tap in the titles.
I never had to be.
at a time.
You did.
It was so time consuming.
It was so difficult.
And people weren't like releasing albums on minedisc.
Were they really?
You'd have to like buy them on.
Yeah,
it was kind of cassette 2.0 was there?
Yeah.
And it was so fiddly.
And it felt like it was going to be cool
because you just dush it in and yeah.
And it was small.
The player was compacted and it felt exciting.
I was bowling around campus listening to up the bracket on it.
It felt like a million dollars, man.
What I love is,
that's probably.
about seven years after the minidisc was an obsolete.
How would you mention?
Yeah, yeah, I know the event came out in 1995,
but when I eventually got to uni in the year 2000,
I was banging to minidiscs.
Yeah, and so much time.
And like having to put titles in on a little wheel.
It's a bit like, I don't know why that's still the system.
If you're going to watch, like,
if you're going to look for a show on the telly,
on like a smart telly,
a so-called smart telly
now we're talking
you've got to go
yeah
mental
but they don't want you to do that
they want you to go
telly
yeah make life
come on
or whatever that
yeah
I'm sorry
yeah
make life to me
bring me
like I think
like
what's the afternoon
is the after series
yeah
like that's what they want you to do
right
okay yeah
But that doesn't work on my telly.
No.
And we broke our remote that does that.
Did you have a remote that you could speak into it like a telephone?
Yeah.
And say,
hello,
could you please?
The fire stick.
Is it?
That's amazing.
Go to the search function and then you just say it in.
But I will say this.
It has got better,
but quite often.
It doesn't know.
One of the words it's not going to get
and you have to clear,
go back through,
type it all out.
So it's not perfect.
Because at the moment,
I'm always basically looking for one of a few.
things, right, when I'm trying to, you know, like on Netflix, and you're typing in like
M, I, N, I, O. And it's showing you every possible thing. And then you eventually do the
M and the air to go, do you want minions? Yeah, you should have got it from M. Yeah.
What else do I look for apart from the minions movie? You know me. You know my wife and kids
are out. You know, I've got to, you know, I've got 20 minutes. I want to see those little
yellow blighters. I'm getting out of semantics here. They're going to be home soon.
They're going to come home and tell me to turn the TV off and put on their vinals.
They're going to want to play jazz and Dave and watch Tenets.
I'm on Borrow time here.
Show me the fucking minions.
Roll.
You're spelling it wrong.
You are spelling it wrong.
Is it not fillet a minion?
That's a sad episode.
Oh, yeah.
Minions.
How do you fare with the minions?
I love them.
Big fan.
Love them.
They're hilarious.
I mean, you do.
They are.
They're brilliant.
You've got a little bit of a minion in the back.
That's how you're the minion about me.
That's true.
That is true.
What are you...
How do you fare with the minions?
I don't ask Tom how he fares with the minions.
I feel like we're going to.
He's ready.
He's got both barrels loaded, Clarkie.
All right.
I'll do my starter in a second.
Okay, yeah, quick, quick.
Um, I don't have a...
You start, you made, you drink.
If you say the secret ingredients, you can...
Flamingino, please.
Flaming a mignon.
Yeah.
Um, I, I haven't, I haven't seen any of the
individual films I've seen
Despicable Be.
Great.
And enjoyed it.
Very funny.
Very good movie.
How do you?
Okay.
Here we go, guys.
Here we go.
No, no.
Let's get into the panic room.
Come on.
Honestly.
Fincher?
Don't get me started on Fincher.
I love David Fincher.
I love David Fincher.
I love David's Fincher.
Yeah.
Did Fincher once wang on about
what former he was filming in?
Probably.
I don't think he did.
He probably did.
He don't think so.
He doesn't think so.
He's about, he's too.
very much about them.
He keeps him,
yeah,
but he just keeps showing
and gets on with it,
don't he?
By the way,
do you still,
talking to David Fincher,
do you still,
when people say,
did you see the game?
Do you have to bite your tongue
not to say
Michael Duncanson's best film?
I always want to say it
and no one ever finds it funny.
You kidding?
Michael Douglas' his best film,
of course I saw it.
Well,
what you do last night?
But yeah,
no, I love David Fincher.
David Fincher's great.
But let the record show.
Let the record show.
We all like.
Fincher positive.
on this podcast.
Yes, absolutely.
But let's talk about minions.
How do you feel about minions?
We're yet to get there.
Oh.
With the kids.
Tom saw the Minions movie.
I didn't understand any of that.
Would they even say proper words?
Although, I could see the top of their heads all the way through that.
If I wanted IMAX, I would pay twice as much.
I feel like the dam will break once, you know,
There's a lot of, there's a lot there.
Are you doing a kind of lot of like censoring on what they, what they watch?
Do they lead the way or are you kind of, you steer in it?
It's a bit of a, it's a bit of a higgledy, piggledy, bit of bow three.
Is that in the night garden?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They're, but like they're, they're starting to edge into Toy Story.
Oh, that's fun.
Yeah.
And so it's like, that's.
okay, here we go.
But like, so the minions I've kind of
we're holding back on
because then there'll be a lot of minions,
I think once they arrive.
Have you tried to introduce,
have you had this way
you've tried to introduce them
to a film that you love and they've,
they don't like.
Seven Saturday.
Dark night,
Dark Night,
Rises,
which was,
you know.
And they were like,
Dark Night Raysling?
Does that work?
I'm trying.
Dark night,
white wine.
Firstly, you shouldn't be drinking anything.
You're five.
No.
Okay.
No, here's the short answer.
Okay.
I don't really want...
I've never...
I don't think...
I'm not really sure.
I don't think I like films.
I don't think I've ever enjoyed
and by which I've been understood any films.
Let me just see if I think
what I'm about to say is true.
True.
It's never
stopped you
before.
What a time
to do it?
We've been doing
this for 15 years.
I think
there's a difference
between Ben and I.
Uh-oh.
Yeah,
I'm lucky to be out
the blasts over this one.
One of us is a conch.
And it's me.
Come on,
what's the difference
to say Tom and Ben?
If Ben
Ben loves a film,
yes.
Not a criticism.
No.
Didn't feel like it, but now it does.
Don't take it.
If Ben loves a film, it's normally a shit film and he's wrong.
Yeah.
Do you know what I mean?
And that's the difference.
Hey, you are quite, you're probably quite right with that, to be fair.
No, if Ben loves a film, you're very eager to share that with people.
Yes.
And so you will, like, be quite keen to, like, be like, let's watch this film.
You're going to love it or like, you know, and sit and watch the film and be like,
did you like that?
Because you really like it.
Whereas if you hate a film, you share that with everyone.
For years after the fact.
Did you hate that?
And I think you'd be like that as a dad as well.
I think that would bleed into your being a parent.
Definitely.
And I don't think...
And maybe your dad was like that.
Maybe that's where it's from.
Yeah, there's a bit of that.
I don't think that was like...
I don't think that my parents had that relationship
to those kind of like to...
That's true.
actually.
And I'm not like that.
I wouldn't,
I don't,
I'm like,
we'd say like,
oh,
you got to watch that,
but I'd never be like,
let's watch it
because I love this
and I want to watch it
with you and see you enjoy it
or whether you enjoy it.
And you wouldn't be,
would you be comfortable,
you'd be comfortable
with someone else did it to you?
I don't know.
Because I was going to invite you around
to listen to Chas and David's Jampery.
Oh yeah.
You had me a lot more.
You had me at Jamberie.
Absolutely.
The jamberries are no longer in trouble.
No longer in trouble.
but yeah
so like I don't want the jeopardy of my kids
not enjoying like gross point blank
that's fantastic choice
a fantastic choice on DVD
of course you've got it on DVD
come to the shed let's watch gross point blank
do you love it do you love it
like that kind of like neat wanting that reaction
as you're watching this thing that you love
he's just killed him I'm sticking a teller on his head
that's Dan Aykroyd
That's that accurate.
Okay, well, she goes by the jet.
He was like a massive kickboxer.
Barely credited.
It's like that, you know, that kind of, whereas you do have that.
I think you have that.
And I like, I find it very, um, I like that about you.
I've always liked that about you.
I find it very, I like that about you.
I do feel a pressure when you do it.
I've always felt a pressure.
Well, he can't he sits on your lap, doesn't it?
You enjoy it now?
What about this bit?
sits on top of my head
He's watching an IMAX
I know what the rest of
Clark he looks like
You don't need to show me
Can I go on your shoulders
It's an IMAX maybe
I really want to appreciate that
We all go together
But one seat please
It's the only way to make it affordable
48 quid three ways
We're fine
I do feel
You feel a slight pressure when you're that person.
Yeah.
Watching the thing.
Sure.
Yeah, I see that.
And I do know, yeah.
So I did that with Megan quite often.
Sometimes she's like,
chill out.
The other thing I've got is when I'm excited about something,
I'm like,
oh, this is going to be great.
I've not watched it in 30 years.
So suddenly you're like, oh, right.
Yeah.
I've watched the film, yeah,
from the early noughties the other day.
when I was like, oh, you never see this is great.
And then you're like all the way through, you're like, oh my God.
It was a different time.
There was so many off.
And it's like, wasn't always better back then?
By the early naughties, you mean the early 1900s, don't you?
It was birth of a nation.
You're like, oh, yeah, yeah.
It is quite clan positive now I think about it.
The most fun costumes, though.
But cinematically, you can see always the top of those hats.
Well, there we go.
An Odyssey in itself, I'd say.
Why, me?
Three hours a run.
Sorry.
Homer rum and Coke.
Are we still doing this game?
I don't know what's going on here.
If you've got an entry for the Christopher Nolan drinks game, then please do send them in.
Yeah, stick them in the comments.
We love the comments.
We love some of the comments.
some of the comments. Hey, if it's spicy,
it doesn't matter. Yeah.
Share, like,
subscribe, do your thing.
And we'll see you soon.
Today's episode was produced by producer Connor.
Ooi,
ho!
Cheers everyone.
Bye!
Should we tell him it was directed by Christopher Nolan?
Is that?
Should we mention that?
Yeah, she said,
it's very angry.
