Chapter 22
Escaping Demons
Part 3
for you.
Hey.
Hey, just landed.
Okay, let me know how it goes.
I might go into the department later, too.
Haven't decided yet.
That's fine, but don't do anything out of the ordinary.
Let me make a few more adjustments, talk to some colleagues.
Fine.
Be careful when you're at home.
Every moment we could be watch.
Yeah, yeah, I got it. What's your plan now?
I'm at the field office. I plan to talk to Holly.
To hold...
I'm just going to talk to him.
Right.
Stupid Ray, don't say anything you don't want out there over the phone, obviously.
I'll call you later tonight.
Okay.
You care, babe.
Yeah. Yeah, you too.
I took a moment to breathe. The airport was starting to get crowded, but it was all.
Almost noon. All of this was a lot. I couldn't believe how much faith I put into Roland. And now every five minutes, I couldn't help but think about my world crashing down around me. And then Jake calling me, babe. That's how we managed to have a lot of calls between us. We pretend we're seeing each other again. It doesn't have to be serious, he said. Just something that we're doing and something we want to keep secret because of our rocky past.
Was that really a viable plan?
Or was he just trying to get closer to me?
Jake had a lot of smooth moves, and this could be one of them.
Regardless, I didn't care.
What mattered now was talking to Eric.
I probably had about an hour to waste.
I thought about going home, but Casper wasn't there, and agents could be.
I thought about going to the department now,
but that wouldn't give me nearly enough time to do anything.
so instead I decided to go to Eric's favorite spot and wait for him.
I could use a drink.
Yo, Ollie.
Hey, you here for Amelia?
No, why?
She was asking about you again this morning.
She was.
I looked around, but she wasn't here.
Yeah, she left for lunch.
Oh, okay, probably for the best.
You don't want to see her.
Not so much now.
Ray and I are, uh, well, you know.
Really?
Yeah, we've been talking and working on stuff.
and, you know, we had this on-again, off-again kind of thing,
and I just don't need Amelia.
Messing things up?
To an extent.
I already had a couple close calls.
So then that night after the bar...
Was nothing.
Don't tell Ansel.
You'll hurt them.
I know.
So what brings you to the field office?
Need me for some more favors?
Yeah, but nothing like before.
I pulled another chair and sat next to Ollie.
I have a question for you since you worked under Albert Walker before.
Walker?
Yeah.
You got data for the...
the guy special agent over in boston how do you know that because i went through his old ass emails but i
couldn't say that oh uh ansell's buddy told me i was never afraid of lying but nowadays it started to make me
a little apprehensive maybe because of all those loose threads from boston sure yeah i never worked
under him i helped gather intel for an agent who was working under the asac walker just filled in when the
other guy was out of the office he had to sign some stuff anyways
You ever talk to Walker?
No, not directly.
Oh, wrong tree.
Time to play it a different way.
Why do you ask?
Okay, um, here's a completely unrelated question.
Okay.
Would there be any reason that a special agent in charge would delay a judge's sign off?
On what?
Say you want to get a warrant for phone or computer records.
In certain cases, they can just have it subpoenaed.
No, I know.
I mean, is there any legal or ethical reason that one would delay an investigation?
I don't see why. Even if you get information you don't want to use yet, you can always hold it until the case goes to trial.
That's what building a case is.
Okay, last question. Do agents need a court order for exhumations?
Bodies?
Yeah.
Yeah, anyone does. Even if it's for DNA testing, which is a substantial reason and likely would get approved.
Does it need family approval?
I thought you only had one question left.
This is an extension of my last question. Just answer it.
No, you don't.
Normally, just substantial reasoning and a court order, but it varies by state.
Interesting.
Would there be any reasoning to hold off on getting a court order if you think two cases are related?
For information, possibly.
But are you talking about a Vic?
Yeah, kind of.
There could be all sorts of reasons for someone to hold off on a court order.
If it's for DNA testing, maybe they'll worry about how to play in court.
Or maybe they're worried about family involvement.
Or maybe...
It doesn't make sense.
What?
What is it, Jade?
Does this have anything to do with your keyword searches again?
I'm assuming it has to do with the badge I'm holding?
I seriously think you're playing with fire.
Me too. I got to go.
What?
I got to talk to Ansel.
Just before I walked out, I turned to Ollie with one more question.
Scenario.
Someone that's high up on the wanted list loses their phone.
The SCD delays a warrant.
The warranted person can also be tied to a deceased.
Vic that may be tied to said wanted person, but the SAC vetoes exhumation.
What does that tell you?
It tells me that the SAC isn't interested.
Not that they just don't think there isn't enough substantial evidence.
Why would they not want phone records or data?
Uninterested?
That would be my summation.
Right.
Although I wouldn't understand the rationale behind it.
Yeah.
And I'm assuming you're talking about Walker?
But I ignore this question and just smile.
Thanks, Holly.
Eric called me the moment he was out of his meeting.
Fifteen minutes later, and I saw him enter the club.
Ray.
Hi.
Hey, Eric.
Usual?
But make it a double.
You got it.
Sorry you had to wait.
It's fine.
You told me you had a meeting.
What time did you get in?
A little before new.
You came right here?
Yeah, I thought about going in and maybe checking in with more, but...
Take a few more days.
More doesn't know your back unless you called him.
I need to go in for a little at some point.
Here you are.
Thanks, Keith.
Eric turned to me and nodded towards the corner booth.
Let's grab a seat over there.
Okay.
We grabbed our drinks and made our way through the dimly lit club.
There were only about ten other people here, including the bartender.
Have you talked to Roland?
Today?
No.
Recently?
She called, panicked, but I'm not able to get a hold of her now.
I wasn't sure how much I should tell him since I knew he didn't want to know much.
Although maybe things were different now that he obviously set some things in motion.
Cap, I mean, Eric, I don't know what you said to your wife, but if it's about being involved in anyway, you kind of jumped the ghost.
He set his glass down gently.
It wasn't about Roland.
It had nothing to do with her.
Or you.
You mentioned Kent over the phone that it involved him in a different manner.
What manner?
Eric, you gotta fill me in.
I'm trying to keep it together, but you have no idea what I'm going through.
I might as well just tell you.
An ex-boyfriend and the FBI is helping me and has been for some time.
has been for some time, along with Roland.
We've been trying to piece things together.
But then shit hit the fan with Roland in Washington.
Exactly.
A couple special agents found Roland's phone and laptop and other stuff.
And, well, they've been calling, and we know it's over.
You and your ex-boyfriend?
Yeah.
Your ex, one of the ones who came down?
No.
Those two agents are the ones who found Roland's stuff.
Have you talked to either of them yet?
No, but they've called.
The call stopped last night, though.
And nothing today?
Nothing.
I haven't gotten anything at the department.
I don't know if that's good or bad.
Well, I got all your stuff out of the house.
Thank you.
I did a quick glance around the room.
I'd done several since I got here.
I can't help but feel like I'm being watched constantly.
Does it matter at this point?
Not really.
I just don't know what's coming, and it's got me nervous as all.
all hell. I took a shaky sip. That's understandable. What does your ex-boyfriend say? If he's on the
inside, I would think they'd go to him first. They called, but also stopped after a few messages.
That's it? So far, he's going to work today, and he's trying to work some things out.
Like? You still don't want to be in the dark about things? At this point, I don't know if I even have a family to
protect anymore. I gotta know. What about Kent? Kent had a troubled past. Issues with drugs, alcohol,
family drama. Shit, he even had problems with gambling. He often found himself drunk of the hard rock
going through whatever he managed to save over the previous month. The guy was a mess. You did tell me he
had darkness to overcome. He sure did. What did Herzog make of it? Was it? Was it? He was a
I wasn't too happy with the way Kent handled himself, but Herdsug was a genuine guy with a cookie-cutter life.
Making Herzog and Kent work together definitely helped, but it wasn't the only help, Kent got.
Therapist?
Yeah, paid by me.
It wasn't covered?
It was, but he needed to go more often, which they wouldn't cover.
You're a good friend.
Or should I say boss?
Or you could say,
lover the realization was quick and hit me hard eric pulled the drink to his lips but took a moment to read me
before sipping are you serious i lived a pretty cookie-cutter life myself commendable respectable and
predictable lovely wife lovely daughters many friends and yet still that one glaring flaw
Uh, what, um, Cap, Eric, I don't consider being in love with another man, uh, flaw.
No, but keeping its secret from your loving family is.
Right.
And seeing him behind your lovely family's back is something I regretted every time it happened.
But still did?
Yeah.
And, uh, how often did it happen?
Too often.
Now he was visibly shaking.
Is this what you just told your wife?
That's why you split?
It was a long time coming, but I got to tell you, it's going to hurt.
It already does.
Sam was surprised, then furious.
Don't know what my daughters will say, and then there's the department.
Will the department even care?
They will, if they dig deep enough.
What does that mean?
Kent got his shit together, thanks to partnering with Herzog and the fact that I was there to handle the low times with him.
We kept things secret, but saw each other often.
Too often.
It went on for years.
Jesus.
Not my proudest of moments, but I'm tired of living a lie.
If that's the reason you talk to Sam, then fine.
But if it's because you're worried what the department will think,
then you've got to make me understand.
I hurt Kent.
At one point I had to end things, and I did.
He didn't take it well.
I watched over him a lot
There was this backslide
And I was worried he'd get back into the issues
And vices he was into before
And he did
Not as bad as before
Not with everything
But it was at this time that I caught him in evidence
And that was when I told him no more
We fought and argued
And I thought it was all going to come out
Until one day he had this realization
What realization
That he didn't need vices
To make the hurt go away
Just like that?
He said he talked to a friend
friend, found a support group, got his life back under control. Years went by when we made the
work situation work. Then I saw Roland having similar issues, not with her sexuality, but with her
social life and relationship, and all her vices, which peaked after loss of her daughter Rose.
She called me that night, and I missed her call. I felt guilty ever since. I was there. I saw her child
in the crib. I did things I shouldn't have. But Roland knew about it.
Kent. He'd gotten close and he opened up to her. I think she helped Kent too, because he saw
himself in her, and that's why he was able to help her. So I've always felt I owed them both.
Felt I owed it to them to help them, especially after Roland went through such a tragedy.
Shit.
What?
It's kind of why I've been helping her as well. I felt I owed her for not being there when
her child passed. Guilt. It's a shitty thing.
So that's what you're worried about getting out?
That you covered up her mistake.
Because I do know it was a mistake.
I know that she was down and didn't tend to Rose when she should have.
It was the lowest of lows.
Rock bottom.
Which is why she was partnered with Kent.
Though I guess there's a little bit of manipulating as well.
Another thing I'm not proud of.
What do you mean?
I was kind of hard on Roland after the situation with Rose.
And I guess I was always worried about her outing me.
So I figured putting her with Kent would have two benefits.
Kent, going through his own vices in the past,
could help her through the tough times,
and maybe, if she got to know Kent well enough, form a bond.
She wouldn't want to drag him down with me if she ever got angry enough.
Smart.
I was overthinking it.
Roland's not a vindictive person.
Obsessive, yes.
Determined even.
What?
Oh, nothing.
I thought about how I scolded Jake,
for calling another female agent determined how it was probably code for bitch.
You think I'm wrong?
No, not at all.
Roland is Roland.
When she puts her mind to something, she doesn't give up, and she always goes all in.
We became close over the years.
I never really had to worry about her, at least not after she got clean.
Well, as clean as she could.
I know she was a pain when you two work together, but that's why I put her with Kent when Herzog retired.
Kent helped her, and so did I, and I don't mean to take anything away from you,
but I didn't want her, for lack of a better word, corrupting you.
I appreciate that.
And, like I said, I think you were good for more.
Right.
Well, when it comes to Roland, I don't think you have much to worry about.
I'm not finished.
Kent wanted the Rutherford case.
He did?
Roland told me she had to pull strings to get it.
She means she presented her case to me
She always had Kent's back because he had hers
She was loyal
Even though she often went a little far at times
With the give a favor request a favor
She expected too much of you
Even after we stopped working together
Well Kent wanted it
The Rutherford case
And I figured Roland was interested because kids were involved
She always had a soft spot for children
And that skyrocketed after her daughter
Yeah, I know
So I let them get involved, but Ken asked for the case the moment the news broke.
But I'm assuming local law enforcement wanted help.
They never asked for it.
What?
That was a little fib I told the feds.
Sheriff Barnes is an old acquaintance and has assisted in the past, and the guy hates federal assistance, so it was an easy lie.
But he never reached out.
The news broke and the next day Kent asked if him and Roland could get involved.
I assumed he talked to Roland about it already.
but why why did he want to help yeah a favor for a friend that's how he put it what did he know the sheriff or something he knew the sheriff but i don't think it was because of him you didn't ask guilt
and i really didn't think it was necessary i gave them a window for which to operate and they'd already closed several cases so i didn't see any harm in it okay so what then so i forced them in how i called them
the sheriff and offered help. It was still early on, so he was unsure, but ultimately he relented.
He was glad he did when the bodies were stolen, though. Called me personally to thank me.
Okay, well, no harm, no foul then, unless the reason he relented was...
Yeah, I put some power behind it, told him we wouldn't help in any further cases, or allow
any of his people to use our equipment or forensics units. Why? Guilt. Because Kent was adamant,
and he was hurting. He said he thought P.G.G.
Jay, his current boyfriend, was cheating on him.
I was worried after breaking his heart that he would slide again if someone else hurt him just as bad as I did.
Did he threaten you to out you?
No, but that was always a worry, even though he wasn't vindictive either.
Those thoughts popped into my head from time to time.
What did Roland say?
Nothing.
She wanted it too, so she talked to me, told me it was important.
I called the sheriff and made it happen.
So you think once the feds show up to get me?
you'll be dragged down too.
Yeah, especially when the Rutherford stuff comes to light.
All they have to do is talk to Barnes, which maybe they already did,
but they probably didn't press, and if they do, he won't corroborate.
Now that I've helped you, I've tampered with possible evidence.
Where is said evidence?
Not with Sam, I hope.
The evidence is with me, in my hotel room.
Casper's still with Sam.
Oh, okay.
Sorry.
No, that's fine.
Think I can swing by later and get him?
Will Sam be okay with that?
She's not upset with you.
Right.
Ray, if the feds have stopped reaching out,
it's probably because they're still working on building a solid case.
I know.
It's only a matter of time.
That's why Jake is working to expand that time.
So you can find Roland?
If they haven't already.
Even with Roland, you don't have enough.
But we have ties.
We have many similarities between cases,
Not just Rutherford and Layden.
Roland gave me the names.
Lots of names.
Victims?
I believe they all are.
That's how she made it sound.
But one of the names, how?
She said she was with him.
If you can find someone that's experienced these horrors,
like David, Julia, the Tara Lake victims,
any of the others, that's good.
But it's still not enough.
I'm assuming the main reason why this hasn't come to light
is the smaller towns and the lack of shared information.
Which Roland's been trying to bring to light.
That was her whole purpose of going to Layton in the first place.
The issue isn't finding more cases.
The issue isn't finding more links.
The issue is finding out why they're linked.
And that's something we haven't been able to do.
I was now at headquarters heading to my office when I saw him.
Williams!
Holy shit!
Ansel was hanging out of the corner of the intersection,
talking to a few guys that looked to be with the State Department.
Yeah, yeah, I'll catch up with you.
Ansel patted one of them on the back as they took off down the hall.
What do you want?
I took a quick look around.
to make sure the coast was clear.
You talked to robots today?
No.
We text you?
I just said.
I haven't talked to him.
Seriously, Jake.
Man, what is going on with you?
I took another look around.
A woman in a maroon blouse brush passed.
Once she was out of airshot, I turned back to Ansel.
I was wondering...
You weren't involved in her disappearance in any way.
Were you?
What?
Who?
Roland.
No, you idiot.
Hey, what the hell?
That was your suspicion?
Well, it was a little more involved than that,
But now I don't know if I want to tell you.
Don't. I'm not interested.
What's with all the hostility?
I'm worried what your friend is doing, calling me.
You don't know?
No, I'm assuming it has to do with Ray.
You know, I still have her number.
I could call her.
Why would you?
Because maybe you're right.
How much do you know?
Not much at all.
But with how you're acting, I'm super intrigued.
But since we're not best buzz like you and Ali...
Listen, I've been helping Ray out with some stuff, okay?
Roland related?
Just some searching, but...
shit came along my desk anyway.
Like what?
Boston was trying to get us to help assist with some tracking.
Of who?
Various people.
Julia Meadows.
Heard of her?
No.
I was trying my best to show limited involvement.
I hope maybe it would spark something in Ansel to either help more or question his friend.
They sent over a bunch of stuff the last six months.
Others from cyberhandled most of it.
How would I know?
I figured Robards told you.
I'm not working on his case.
He just had a few questions here and there.
but it's not shocking cyber would be involved.
And we are.
So that's why he wants to contact you?
Possibly.
Have you, uh, been tracking or, um, keeping contact with your ex, too?
Somewhat.
Whoa, buddy.
Easy there.
Don't be getting involved with anyone they want eyes on.
Hey, she's my ex, and we've been talking more.
Is that going to interfere?
It shouldn't.
How much have you talked to her about Roland?
I know what he was doing.
Just a little.
But then the sparks started flying again.
That's why I didn't sleep with Amelia.
That, shockingly, was true.
Holy shit.
You're down bad.
Yeah, yeah.
So, can you just keep things to yourself?
Hey, I don't know how Mick will handle it, or even if it matters.
Like I said, the guy's a friend.
I help him out when I can.
That's it.
You wanted to talk to you?
I was worried for a sec.
Why?
Because I know you.
I know you don't always play by the rules, and you like to press your luck.
That I still might be doing, but can you just help me out?
Help you out? How?
Can you just let me know if he contacts you again?
Yeah, is your number? If you wanted...
I haven't gotten any more calls.
They stopped yesterday and nothing today.
I'm not even sure I want to answer, at least right now, so can you just find out...
Special agent Jake Mizarro, please report to Joyce's office.
Special agent Jake Lizarro, please report to Joyce's office at once.
I think you need to stop pressing your luck, buddy.
Did Joyce know I was at the scene in Alaska?
Did he know about Roland?
More and more questions raised to my mind.
You can just go in.
I nodded to Pauline, his secretary.
Took a breath and entered.
I entered to see Joyce looking out his window,
hands in pockets.
He turned as I approached the desk.
You call for me?
What do you know about Detective Emily Rowland, Tampa PD?
Florida Detective,
to run after allegedly helping and abetting of murder suicide by cops.
Oh, shit.
Did he know I changed the files?
Ford's signatures, the questions kept coming.
Um, I know a bit.
Uh, I helped, uh, little.
Some agents out of Boston needed cyber for some background checks, tracking, and locations
they were exploring.
So you're aware?
It came across my desk.
I figured you approved it.
Because you signed the reports, Joyce, you signed many reports that allowed me to get
involved. Didn't you know that?
I'm not sure about all that. But I'm not mad.
No? He turned to me.
Was one of the Boston agents? A Regina Torv?
Yes.
Did you know she was on the West Coast?
Torv?
And Roland.
Oh, uh, no, sir. My involvement was minor. If you want, I can forward some of the work.
No, no.
You wave that thought away as he took a seat.
She's on the phone.
Special Agent Torv.
What?
My heart skipped a beat.
Crap.
It was too late.
Right now, she's at Post Falls, ER, in hospital.
I was confused at a loss for words.
Apparently, last night there was an incident.
I don't know what they'll eventually label it,
but seems to me to be a goddamn massacre.
Uh, I still didn't know what to say.
What the hell was going on?
She asked specifically for you.
He motioned to his landline with a flick of his pinky and a slight nod.
Uh, okay, but he didn't move.
So something told me Joyce wanted to hear what I had to say.
Hello?
Special Agent Mizarro.
Yes?
They took her.
What?
They took her.
Roland.
What do you mean they took her?
Who?
We were attacked.
Everything Roland said was true.
There was so much I wanted to ask right now, but Joyce was here.
I had to be careful.
Remember, Jake?
you weren't involved much.
So you found Roland?
Did you and Robards...
Robards is dead.
They're all dead.
All?
I turned to Joyce who was now looking at me quizzically.
What do you mean by all?
Everyone at the end.
We tried to get out.
We tried to run.
Even Roland.
She ran.
I found her.
I was shot.
Shot?
By who?
I don't know.
All I know is that they took Roland and then I ran.
I ran, and I ran, and I finally got out.
Joyce's look softened.
Could he hear everything?
Probably.
You're in Post Falls?
I'd hope, yeah.
You have to find her.
Tell Detective Willow, right, too.
I tried calling her yesterday.
We knew you two were in contact.
When the story breaks, they may still try to pin it on Roland, but it wasn't her.
None of this was her.
Um, okay.
Thanks.
Just like that, she hung up, but I kept the phone to my air for a good five seconds more before slowly lowering it to the base.
Only helped a little, huh?
Sir, AI.
How many active investigations are you helping with?
None they can't wait.
They have some agents from Salt Lake on standby.
The fact the story hasn't broke yet is astonishing.
But go.
You got three days.
Why was he being so nice?
Thank you, sir.
But Jake, this doesn't mean you are back on the field, got it?
Got it.
And I want a full report when you get back.
Yes, sir.
I don't know.
I'm gonnae.
...hean...
...their...
...their...
...that...
I know, Jake, I was listening to the news.
I was sitting in my car outside the captain's house.
I came to get Casper, even though I would probably need to leave him again.
I should have just left him with a Miss Roe to begin with.
Well, have you gotten any more calls?
From the agents? No.
Well, I have. Did you know that?
Who? Robarts?
Robards is dead
How do you know that?
Because Torf called me
You picked up
She called me at headquarters
I answered the damn phone
Right in front of Joyce
I'm sure that was nerve-wracking
She said Robards was dead
Did she say anything else
She said everything that Roland said
Was true
We already knew that
Sure, but any skepticism
Torf may have held was gone
I heard they found five bodies
But there could be more
I don't know
When she called
News didn't break yet
What else did she say?
She said, and I hope you're sitting down. Roland was taken.
Taken? By who?
Yeah, she didn't say.
But by creatures or people? Someone at the inn?
She didn't say. She's in the hospital in Post Falls. She was shot.
By? Who?
I don't know, Ray. Damn, the conversation was short. We need to go see her. Now.
If the authorities can't find Roland, they're liable to pin it all on her. Again, even if Torv corroborates.
We need to go. I'm leaving in a few hours, and you should, too.
Okay.
We're flying into Spokane. Are you friends?
You'll have to watch your stuff a little while longer.
Right.
And your cat.
I was surprised he even mentioned that.
Call me when you have flight info.
Jesus!
Someone was knocking on my passenger window.
The person bent down, and I saw that it was Sam.
Sorry to scare you, but I saw you sitting out here.
It's your cat I'm watching.
Isn't it?
Yes.
You want him?
Actually, I was wondering if maybe you can watch him for a little longer.
If not, I totally understand, and I can get my neighbor to...
It's fine. I can do that, Ray. I'm not upset with you.
Right. That's exactly what Eric said.
Do you need anything? More food? Litter?
Should be good for a week, unless you plan to be longer.
No, um, that's good.
There was an awkward silence that lingered a moment.
I'm assuming you know about Eric and I?
I, uh, I do.
Do you know why?
He just told me today, I'm sorry.
Her mouth twisted as she looked away a moment, obviously trying not to cry.
You think you know someone.
And yet, they have this deep, dark secret that they've kept their entire life.
And I guess, I guess they just assume it won't hurt you if they can continue.
you to keep it deep down and secret.
But the secret itself,
it doesn't hurt as much as the fact
that he had it for so long.
I'm sorry, Sam. Really?
I can't imagine how hard this can be for the both of you.
She forced to smile, patted the door.
Just let me know when you want him back.
I'll take good care of him.
Thank you, Sam.
I want to.
I wanted to see Casper. Hold him real quick, but I figured that would make it harder to leave him again.
Oliver, any word from Jake?
Yeah, he was here earlier.
I told him you asked about him.
He say anything about the envelope you gave him?
You did give it to him, right?
Yeah, I told you I did.
But he didn't say anything about it?
No.
That's odd.
Why?
What was in it?
Something that I thought he would find interesting.
Care to share, or is it private?
Do you think it was nude Polaroids?
No, no, no, no.
He was about what he was looking into.
to. I saw some similarities to that Louisiana group.
The newly relocated NRM?
No, the family.
Was that one of the religious sects in the Stitch?
He was looking into that?
I don't know what Jake was looking into exactly,
but there were several documents about cults,
laden falls, hallucinogens,
and he even had a doodle of a moth.
Oh?
Well, the Augustin family,
don't know if you know of them.
I've heard mention.
Well, they had a mrs.
moth symbol related to spiritual significance, the transformation.
Enlightenment? They still use that?
I don't know. We haven't had any issues with them since the early 2000s.
Yeah, none of that rings a bell. Similar to the two-by-toos?
Different family, similar ammo.
But they used the moth as a symbol?
I think it's something they lost when their leader was arrested, but it's been a while.
Then how did you even know to make that connection?
I did my thesis on religious sex in the South.
Really?
I explored the impact and long-term effects on children within a family unit.
Interesting.
I find the psychology fascinating.
Anyway, not sure if it'll help him at all, but I thought it was worth a shot.
I printed him some notes and sources from my thesis to check out.
I can touch them about it.
No, no, don't worry.
I'm sure he'll look at it when he has time.
Plus, he made it sound like it was something he shouldn't be working on in the first place.
Yeah.
He's always up to something.
