Seven Lamb presents Paralyzed.
Chapter 3, The Storm, Art 3.
Wait, and wait, and wait is all we did.
I was surprised this was Ethan's idea.
This isn't what he was known for.
Ethan was usually a man of action, but I realized this was a situation
and none of us knew how to react to.
A man.
A thing.
It was out there.
Ashley was gone, and Brian was gone, and Cooper was dead.
The sun was coming up.
Seth put up quite a struggle last night as we set his leg.
Eventually, we were able to force him down.
He wasn't unhappy about it, but at least it was done.
Now he slept.
It's light out.
Katie stated the obvious.
It was nearly 7.30.
Katie sat on the couch with Seth, who snored loudly.
Jen and I sat on the opposite couch.
Ethan stood by the front door, looking through the window.
Ethan, it's light outside.
I know, Katie.
We should leave.
What about Brian?
He's not back.
We should get the police.
They'll find him.
And Ashley.
If they were alive, sure.
But odds were not in their favor.
We had seen something big, take down Cooper in just one swift motion.
Could Brian and Ashley still be out there?
Running through the woods?
Ethan.
I heard you, Katie.
Well, shouldn't we go?
Ethan walked over to the couch and examined Seth's leg.
God damn it!
I wish we could take him to the hospital.
He's lost a lot of blood.
We need to.
We can. We could leave here and head right to the hospital.
Do they have one here in Rutherford?
Katie, we talked about this.
We don't have the keys.
And unless you know how to hotwire a car...
I think we should take the van.
Seth said the same thing.
It's his van.
I don't think he cares if it ruins his car.
That's not the point.
Katie, we won't make it out of the campground.
He replaced one of the tires.
I know that.
Can't we try?
I don't want to stay here any longer.
None of us do.
It won't work.
Then we'll be stuck out there.
Katie's eyes lowered to the floor.
She was defeated.
Ethan headed to the kitchen.
He still held the axe firmly.
He hadn't put it down since making it back from the woods.
I got up and followed him into the kitchen.
None of us talked anymore about what we saw out there.
No one believed my creature theory, and I didn't really feel like trying to convince them.
There was a reason to my theory, too.
Something I didn't want to say or mention to them.
What could I say?
I've been seeing a dark, shadowy figure around camp.
The same figure for my dreams.
And every dream I had featured some sort of monstrosity.
Like what we saw last night.
Ethan.
Do you want something to drink?
No, I'm okay.
I...
I think we should take the van.
Oh, come on.
You don't honestly think that'll work?
No, I...
I really don't.
But don't you think it would be, I don't know, wise to let Katie at least see that?
I'm all for someone seeing to believe, but this isn't the time for that.
If the van messes up, we'll be out there with that guy.
Honestly, is it much better than being stuck in here?
We have one door and a few windows.
We'll be more secure in here.
We can't stay here forever, Ethan.
I know that.
We just need too long enough until.
We figure out...
I don't want to stay out here any longer than we need to.
The van isn't the answer.
We'd have better luck how wiring Brian's car.
Or hell, berries.
Listen, Ethan,
I believe you.
And I know you know cars a lot more than I do.
I don't think the van will take us very far at all.
I admit it, but there is a chance.
A chance that it could carry us to the main road.
It's better than nothing
What about Brian?
We're not doing much good for him stuck in here
If the van breaks down
And we get stuck out there and that guy...
I know
And you'll explain that to Katie
I will make it crystal clear, I promise
Seth can't run
I know that
She knows that
Look, we'll take it slow
Drive easy.
Then wake up Seth. We need to start now.
Katie's eyes lit up as we told her the plan.
She instantly shook Seth awake.
We packed a couple of backpacks with water, food, flashlights, and quickly hit it out.
we headed outside cautiously
Ethan led the way with axe in hand
and backpack over shoulder
we made our way around the cabin
into the field
Ethan stopped to examine the front tire
look at it
it's shredded
it's fine
Seth the tire looks worse
Oh my god
Everyone in the van now
We jumped inside
Ethan started the van and slowly turned the wheel
and applied gas
Go, go! I am not pushing it
Katie, Jen and I kept checking our surroundings
I don't see anything
Me either
Ethan turned the van toward the dirt road
It rumbled slowly
See, it's working
We're not even
even out of the field yet. We made our way onto the dirt road. Ethan maintained a study speed of
four miles per hour. You can go faster. Seth, I'm driving. Yeah, my car. Babe, just let him do it.
I just want to get out of here. We all do.
That was much closer.
I am still not pushing it.
Just go a little faster.
Please.
Oh, this was a mistake.
No, we're fine.
Keep looking around.
We're good.
We're good.
What the hell was that?
Why are you breaking?
Did you not hear that?
Who fucking cares?
Let's go!
It was right around the bend.
Just go!
Fucking hell!
Ethan slowly applied pressure to the gas puddle,
and he rolled and bumped her way around the bend
to find a large tree blocking our path.
Fuck, what the hell is that?
It's a tree, Seth.
Yeah, I know that.
Did that guy do it?
I don't see anyone.
How can he knock over tree so fast?
That thing's uprooted.
Maybe he's a fucking lumberjack, Seth.
Who cares?
We have to head back.
No.
Then what?
Just drive through the woods.
You are an idiot.
There's gaps. We can make it through.
Just drive Grandma's speed.
The van won't make it through.
This is such a mistake.
Then we move the tree.
Really? Are you going to help?
That's when I noticed the shadow man on the other side of the fallen tree.
Standing in the middle of the dirt road,
His long arms almost reached the ground.
The shadow man didn't move,
and a sudden chill traveled down my spine.
I think Ethan's right.
We need to head back.
No.
We're heading back.
No!
Ethan solely made a three-point turn in the road.
The whole time we made sure to watch all sides.
No movement.
No person.
No creature.
The shadow man even disappeared.
When we made it to the cabin, we quickly parked and exited.
Katie and I once again helped Seth while Ethan and Jen watched our sides.
When we made it inside, Ethan quickly checked every room.
Axe held up, ready to fend off anything.
The rooms were clear.
We were safe.
For now.
War are you regiwump.
He can't be you want to have me.
Her pal on yathralin.
You know, but your trip, but must...
...andwarkiwark, you're going to fly.
He can't make you want your friend.
Her palo yathralin.
You never come to you make it.
Y'am's what your trip but must...
... carry our own...
...war are you ranky won't...
We don't know if you turn to fly.
Sometimes that kind of blues will make you even kill one another.
We'll make you even kill another.
pass slowly.
Whatever was out there never showed.
But that didn't stop us from checking outside every few minutes.
A schedule was never discussed.
Each of us just knew when it was our time to check outside.
Save for Seth.
Who didn't move?
How's your leg?
My leg is fine, Dr. Quinn.
Can I look at it?
No, fuck off.
Seth.
It'll be fine.
When we get out of here, we can go to the hospital.
We're going to get out of here.
Maybe that guy will just leave.
I knew that wasn't true.
Okay.
From the way I see it, we're trapped here.
Oh, nice observation.
Here isn't bad.
There's one door, several windows, but we need to keep an eye out.
This place isn't safe, Ethan?
It'll do for now.
But we do need to figure out a way.
of escape.
No shit.
This is only the third day.
We aren't even expected back home until Thursday.
That gives us four days.
For what?
For someone to realize that we're not back.
That fucking matters.
What?
Barry, the campers.
Who cares who shows up to find us?
The guy out there is not just coming after us.
Can we stop saying Guy?
Everyone turned to me.
David, what is out there?
I don't...
I don't know.
Who the hell cares?
It doesn't matter if it's a crazed man
or somebody from a Stephen King book?
All I care about is getting out of here.
Then we need to leave.
Yeah, yeah.
Staying here shouldn't be an option.
Then what?
What's the plan?
You and I can finish what we started yesterday.
You mean, walk out of here.
Seth can't, but we can.
Fuck that! You guys are not leaving me here.
I mean, Ethan and I can go. The rest stay here.
We can get help.
What if he's out there?
What if you guys don't come back?
You want out of here, right?
Well, that looks like our best option.
It's too late.
to leave now, the sun will be down soon.
We'll leave first thing in the morning, and this time
we'll make it back to Rutherford.
