This episode is presented by Monzo.
Josh, I love the summer holiday, aside from being asked for an ice cream every 32 seconds.
Well, Rob, that is why it's an ideal time to get them a free Monzo Kids account,
help build confidence and independence with their money.
You can instantly send money or set up regular pocket money
and parents still have full visibility and control from their own Monzo app.
Unlike the requests for ice creams from the kids.

Hello, you're listening to Parenting Hell with...
Raffy, can you say Rob Beckett?
Rob Becket.
Can you say Josh Whitakum?
John, Sidman.
Widicum.
Dieson.
Very good.
There we go.
very good
was he doing that from a Chris packet
yeah it was a weird sound
sorry it was just so I'm a bit whimsy then
it took you off your shrine of it didn't I
sorry it's because I just read that this person's from
Exeter I got quite excited
could you ever do whimsy Rob
I've had a go
I've had a go I just
do know what I prefer being funny
and the dog's barking
should I sell that out
I thought you preferred being funny
fucking out
what a star
The dog's barking.
It'll come back.
Imagine if he didn't.
Imagine if that's it.
Imagine if that's the end of the pod.
Rob never comes back.
There's no tragedy.
He's just disappeared forever.
Who you bringing in?
That is a tragedy.
That would be weird.
Obviously, yeah, we'd be sad to lose him, etc, etc.
I don't think the pod would recover if Rob Beckett went missing now.
I think it would become the world's greatest true crime podcast.
Yeah, it would be incredible.
But I don't think we could go back.
to me and Ramesh talking about our kids, and it would be Ramesh.
I think you probably could in about four to six weeks.
Do you think?
I think that might make me a suspect.
Do you know what I mean?
I think that would make, I think people would go,
oh, he moved on very quickly,
and he seems to have wanted to do it with Ramesh.
So has he bumped Josh, or bumped Rob off?
Yeah, people looking at the new deal structure and what splits going where.
Yeah, exactly.
Romish is on a slightly worse split than Rob was.
What?
We just had quite an interesting chat.
Oh.
If you'd never come back and you just disappeared,
and that was the last ever people heard of Rob Beckett.
Oh, wow.
Whether A, obviously it would become such a huge news story.
Yeah.
But whether I would then be able to continue the pod with Ramesh in four to six weeks
or whether that would make me a suspect.
If I was you, I'd continue the podcast and you just leave my computer
on connected to this meeting in the hope I come back.
Do you know what?
People would listen every time and we do kind of click baity headlines.
Well, I think people would for a few weeks just skip through the video.
Is he back?
Is he back?
No, I just shut the front door.
He was barking at the noise of someone doing a leaf blower.
Yeah.
Should we get back to the opening message?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
I'm quite stressed, Josh, to be honest.
We've got a headache.
Really fucking stressed.
I'm busy.
I'm too, no buffer.
Yeah, I'm living a no buffer.
Not an unintentional no buffer life.
I think summer holidays is the king of the anqueen
of the unintentional no buffer where stuff,
because you're out of your normal routine of kids being in school,
you get, things get scuppered.
Tensions get high.
Stuff's going on.
Yeah.
Hi Rob, Joshua Michael.
I was just listening to Laced this episode
while out on for a run around extra key.
Disappointed not to Josh.
Jump into top runner Josh Whitaker.
I have run on the key.
Of course, yes.
Had to write in to answer the question,
do we want the podcast to be more professional?
The answer is absolutely not.
We love the chaos.
More guest-free episodes too, please.
I've attached my son, Rafferty, reading your names.
This was recorded when he was 19 months old.
Now he's two weeks from turning three.
Time is a thief.
Anyway, keep staying sexy and relatable.
Hannah Fowles from Exeter.
Hannah Fowl.
It is mad that we've basically,
because we've been busy,
just stopped doing guest interviews, but never decided that was going to happen.
It's a bit like turning like...
It's not a decision we've made.
It's a decision that's been made for us by circumstance.
Well, it's a bit like turning on match of the day and all of a sudden there's just no pundits.
It's just commentators in the game, which I don't mind it.
It's like if match of the day lost the rights to the Premier League but continued broadcasting.
I mean, it's essentially what we are is the rest is football.
We're match at the day without the clips.
It's mad they don't have any clips.
Anyway, how are you, Josh?
You said he was very stressed.
Trustful.
Oh, let me take you through yesterday, Rob.
Let me fucking how this light is bright, isn't it?
I look like I'm under interrogation.
Maybe you are.
So, yesterday, Rob.
Yeah.
What a fucking day.
It was queuing up to be a great one.
Okay.
So both my kids were in clubs.
Yep.
My son had only wanted to go in on the Monday, but he'd enjoyed it, so he wanted to go back in on the Wednesday.
Lovely.
My daughter, we took around to a friend's house where they were doing this trinket swapping thing,
where they'd all made boxes to put in trinkets, and then they were going to swap them.
Okay.
So we went around to a friend's house.
We had pancakes, and they swapped their trinkets.
And then they went off to club.
Lovely.
It was very wholesome.
It was so wholesome.
Pancakes and a quick trinket swap?
pancake welcome to
Exeter
you see really
like I'm hinged
but not in a bad madra
just sort of very like
chaotic
I'm in a bad place
I'm in a bad place
so I had the whole day free
I was like
this is great
yeah
I've got a few things to do
some emails
fine
I went out
did some photography
because I love doing that to relax
yeah you did
well was in Paris
you want for a little walk
to take photos
yeah
that was my morning
Then I went back.
I had osteopath.
She's like, this is a great day.
This is a great day.
Then Rose's like,
Rose's got the afternoon off as well.
She's like,
shall we,
should we go for lunch on the coast?
Yeah,
why not?
It's a half hour drive.
If we're driving out of Exeter,
yeah.
Thinking life is good.
Two lanes go into one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know a classic.
Two lanes go into one.
Yeah.
That's not a euphemism.
are more a kind of reference.
And then a lorry just cuts across us.
Yeah.
Doesn't stop.
You know, you know when you're like, oh, this is going to hit me.
Oh, no.
This is going to hit me.
And there's nothing I can do about this situation.
I was slowing down, but I was like, even if I jam on the break, like, I'm, he's
cutting across.
Yeah.
I'm getting less and less space here.
Yeah.
His back is just coming across and I've got no, I'm just stuck.
Yeah.
I can't do anything.
Rips off my wing mirror.
No.
Yeah.
Are you selling the old beamer?
Yeah.
I mean, I know so little about cars, Rob.
Yeah.
That I said to Rose,
oh, could you Google a Mercedes garage?
And she was like, we've got a BMW.
I'm like, I just don't know anything about my car.
Yeah, but you are looking at the steering wheel with it on it.
I know, but I'm just not interested in cars.
It's just not.
I just, I can't keep any information in.
Then when I was on the phone to them, they said, what model is it?
I said, it's an X3.
Yeah.
And they said, what's the number plate?
I read it.
And they said, it's an X one.
I was like, okay, it's an X one.
I don't know.
So the Lorry just cuts across, takes off our wing mirror.
But just a wing mirror, nothing else.
Nothing else.
Thank God.
And then you're like, well, I didn't start.
Did he carry on going?
No, he carried on right in front of us.
We could see his number plate.
Yeah.
We could see also that it was a lorry driver's learning company.
Oh, right.
Okay.
And he had an L plate on.
So we take a photo of the number plate.
Yeah.
He doesn't stop running.
I'm still sure he doesn't even know this has happened.
Yeah.
Phone the number on the back of the lorry.
We're like, you've just ripped our, this guy's just ripped off our wing mirror.
on Topps from Road
blah blah
they're like okay
we'll look into it
and get back to you
they still don't go back to us
so that's a fucking thing
I'll have to chase up today
yeah
then we phone the garage
yeah
do you continue with your lunch
yeah we do
but lunch is
offering in the garage
yeah
well we do
Rose does it
while we're driving
you know on speaker phone
kind of both of us
and oh man
and also now you're having to
you've just been
into the osteopoeuvre.
Now you're having to turn your neck
to look all the time.
Yeah.
So that's good work's gone.
And your neck was hurting from cycling.
Exactly.
It was the cycling that was so painful.
I told you not to use your neck
on the pedals, but you wouldn't listen.
It's just, it's got more turn.
It's got more power.
It's bigger muscle than my thighs.
So speak to BMW, right?
Yeah.
There's no wing mirrors in the
UK. They have to be imported from Germany. Right. I mean, surely we're not the first people in the UK
that need a wing mirror. It's a popular model. I've seen other people driving this. Is this a Brexit thing?
If it is, add it to the list. Just add it to the bloody list. So how long do you have to wait to get a wing mirror?
But we're going to Cornwall tomorrow as well. Oh. Yeah. So you're like, this is such a fuck. It's
it's the cost, but it's not the cost.
It's the fucking faff now.
Do you know what I mean?
The cost is annoying and we'll have to, you know,
presuming these, I'm not going to say what the company was that caught us,
but I will be naming them if they won't.
Happily.
I will happily name them if they won't cough up to cover this fucking hour.
Now we're going to have to rent a car for a week.
Before going tomorrow, I've got to find a garage
that will be able to get the part.
So you can't drive it in no wing mirror?
Is it illegal?
Are you allowed to drive it to the garage, I think?
Right.
Do you feel unsafe without it?
Oh, man.
Driver's side mirror must be present, steady and intact.
Driving without it is illegal.
It's the other side.
So it's not your driver's side?
It's the passenger side.
Passinger side, here we go, in brackets near side,
can be missing as long as the other.
to rear mirrors work.
Great.
You're in.
Great.
So, theoretically, I could drive to Cornwall.
Yeah.
It's good news.
Wow.
That's put a...
You can buy temporary suction ones from Amazon.
We'll get a little temporary...
Have a little temporary suck.
I can't tell you how yesterday how far I was from having a temporary suck.
But I think you'll be okay.
Yeah, there'll be a temporary one in the garage as well, weren't there?
If you can't, one won't come in time online?
I've just got text from Rose saying,
the garage can't keep the car for the week.
Can't keep it for the week?
No, so they can't drop it off.
They've got no space?
Oh, we'll get into it.
I'll deal with it after this.
Okay.
Is anything else gone on?
You seem...
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I was going to say, because you seem really stressed.
That's really frustrated.
Yeah, but I was fine with that at the time.
I thought that was the only thing.
Afterwards, you're like.
Yeah.
You're just like, oh, fucking hell, we're going.
So my daughter's doing this theater week, right?
It's good, though, because she hates performing my daughter,
which I see is the biggest vote of confidence for my parenting in history.
But they've got two options.
So her and like five of her friends or six of her friends are doing it.
Yeah.
And you can either be performing or you can be backstage, which is making the props.
Oh, that's cool.
Doing the sound effects, all that kind of stuff.
So she's like loving it.
She's like building an elephant that she's.
She says is elephant-sized for this Phileas Fogg Theatre thing.
And so we're going to watch the play at 4pm and then we're driving down to Cornwall.
Right.
So it's like, Jesus fucking Christ, we've got to, now that's the deadline.
I've got to have a car and I've got to have this car in the garage.
And then last night.
Yeah.
So yesterday was nice.
Kids came home.
Daughton needs the Union lunch box.
Smiggles closing up half five.
It's 506.
Okay.
We'll just drive into town.
Oh, no, I can't drive.
I totally forgot.
I can't drive.
So, you can drive.
Because I've only just found out that I legally can drive for that.
Yeah, right.
Okay.
So you can, yeah, you're not.
Okay.
So I get attacks.
Also, it does feel weird.
You don't realize how often you check your passenger wing mirror until it's a, you know,
when you're not wearing a watch and you suddenly realize you're looking at your wrist a lot.
You wouldn't know about that.
You know what he's got.
I don't tell you.
Why's your watch on?
Oh, Rob.
My watch, I dropped it in a bathroom and it just stopped working.
Oh, right?
It's a nice birthday watch.
I took it back. I took it to the watch repair and they were like, this will need a special part because it's a, you know, it's a fancy watch, right?
World Smallest violin, etc. I get it. So I give it to the, go back to the people I bought it from in London.
They're like, okay, we'll see what we can do. They don't get back to me. I contact them.
They're like, yeah, it's got to go back to Switzerland. It'll be 25 to 30 days until it's got to.
to Switzerland and then they can quote you.
So it's got to go to Switzerland for me to get
a quote.
How fancy is this watch?
Yeah, it's fancy, but it's just the bit.
They've got the bit. Because
along with fucking wing mirrors,
we haven't got fucking watch bits.
Everything is on mainland Europe.
Okay.
So the watch is broken.
So then I bought a
Cassio because I had a gig.
Yeah. I actually, I had a
corporate gig and I needed to be able to time my gig.
So off the curb my agency.
When you do corporate gigs, you keep an eye on time.
You're not just sort of freewheeling and embracing the moment and just
however long you do you do, because you're up there loving it.
Well, I know because I want to fill my contractual hours.
Because once I came off five minutes too early because I looked at my watch and it was
wrong.
Right.
I felt terrible.
And it had been going well.
Yeah.
And actually it was fine.
No one cared.
But I was, I felt awful for it.
because I thought, yeah.
You've not given them what they, you know.
Yeah.
But I just remember, there'll be some people in that crowd.
They're absolutely delighted you finished early.
Exactly.
There's always that.
Also, I was on before Claudia Winkelman, so it was an upgrade.
Get me off.
Wincommon on.
Get me off.
Get Winkleman on.
That's what people are here for.
I'm a fast starter at a corporate.
You have to put it.
It's like playing a big club, you know, as a lower league team.
You've really got to put a few reduces in early to let them know you're there.
Could I say something for the listeners?
Yeah.
as of August, I can't say what this is,
and Michael might edit this out.
We're going to cut all of the football references on this.
But if you do like the football references,
they will remain in existence.
I can't stop doing football reference.
It's a bit like when Emma Raducanu is hitting a volley serve.
I've really tried to get into Wimbledom
because there's a new English guy that did well.
Yeah, he was fit as well, isn't it?
I googled him.
Not a bit of me.
not or no no he was french born
you're from the tracks french born
mum's french dad
man's french dad run
fucking tennis players we can't get any bits
over it
well no but and I think he's like
his dad's like a billionaire hedge fund
manager and he went to international
so it's hard to get behind him like
yeah yeah of someone
radical is from Bromley aren't she
she's from Bromley I've never seen her since
she's absolutely binned us off
do I mean so you know
Andy Murray and Jamie Murray
were proper
Yeah, love them too.
Love them. Love them.
Struggled with him. I'm quite like Rizetsky, actually.
Guys, if you're worried, don't worry, we'll be doing a tennis show.
Hey, we're just two young bucks that love sport.
Yeah.
So then what happens? Yeah, we have to rush to smiggle.
Oh no, yeah, I get a second watch. I get a Cassio.
Got your Cassia.
And then I was struggling with.
with the strap and it fell down a floorboard in my house and I couldn't reach it.
I got my daughter,
she's got smaller arms,
but she couldn't reach it either.
So it's currently.
You're like,
you are like,
it is like,
I've said this before that comedians don't really,
you don't really want to be a comedian.
Your life is just a farce and then you report back on stage or on a podcast.
Like,
Sean Walsh is the same.
Everywhere he goes,
something wrong goes wrong.
I know.
I know.
But is that because we're too manic and we're stressing and running around?
Acast is the same.
Acast's life is just,
these wild events.
Do you know what I mean?
It's just because we're weirdos.
It's because we're weirdos.
I got in a car after,
this is ruined me this week,
because I was in Manchester doing out of 10 cats.
But I got a car back,
like driven back,
it's such a long way,
and I got in at 4 a.m.
And it just ruined you for the, like, a few days.
Like, now I'm old.
I can't do, you know.
You used to go out drinking till 4 and go to work the next day.
Like, I'm dead.
So fun.
I got in a car and it was a local car company, Manchester.
He went, what you've been filming?
And I went,
Oh, 8 hour 10,
That's his countdown.
He went, I've stopped watching that since the great man, Sean Lott passed.
And I was like, oh, you know, oh, yeah, no.
Fair enough, yeah.
He was absolutely amazing.
He went, yeah, it's brilliant.
It's not the same since.
I was like, okay.
And I was like, what did you do on it?
I was like, that's sort of his job, actually.
Anyway, let's sit in awkward silence for four hours.
Thankfully, I've killed the conversation.
So then we rush to smiggle.
Yeah.
Get a taxi to smiggle, right?
Because I promised my daughter we'll go to smiggle before the car thing happened.
We run to smiggle, get there six minutes before closing.
Yeah.
Turns out it's wrong on Google.
It's 6pm.
Oh, lovely.
Lovely.
So we then stand in smiggle forever because children can't choose anything in smigle.
I'm not, I don't know if I love smiggle.
they were so nice they were such a nice
I'm not saying the people
I'm going to say this Rob
the difference I know I'm
I know I'm boring about
about like exit of E London
and I know it's unbearable
yeah
the difference in the level of service
is out of this world
do you think people are calmer nicer
they're just more
they're not fucked off
they're like oh you're someone
from the area and you're so smigel
really nice and we went to water
Of in London, it's the kind of place where, like, a lorry will just smash into your car and drive off, where exit art, it's about caring for your fellow man.
Isn't it?
Exactly.
In that little wonderland.
Well, look, I don't want to tell you.
I wasn't surprised when we phoned the lorry company that they didn't have a local code on their.
Oh, here he goes.
There you go.
You've become racist to anyone that's not from Exeter.
What is, what is, you're a xenophobic, exotonian?
Are you an extonian?
I am an ex-to-well, no, an ex-tonian would be someone I think that went to Exeter school.
But if you're from Exeter, what's your name?
Devonian is Devonian, I suppose, I don't think, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Anyway, I...
Smiggle.
We do smiggle.
We do Waterstones.
We do Nando's.
Yeah.
Yeah, the big three.
Then, um, got to go to...
We're actually, we're more of a...
more of a hunky-dory pizza express Waterstones crew. That's our top three. If you had to pin me to
all and say where the three places the kids want to go is there. Yeah. Yeah. Also, after Waterstones,
it turns out my son needs a lunchbox, but he hasn't wanted to say that because he wanted to
get a car from Waterstones instead. But then when I got my daughter a book and him a car,
he suddenly remembered he wanted a lunchbox. So we ran back to Smigel and made.
it with five minutes to spare for the 6pm deadline as well.
Then we go to Nando's.
Yeah, lovely.
And then we go, and then we have to go to Waitrose.
He wants to get the bus to Waitrose.
Two pounds 50.
So did you get the bus to the shops in in the first place?
No, we got a car because we didn't have time to get the bus.
Because we promised in the bus.
We needed a load of cleaning stuff, so I did that.
Then walked home, get home.
Fluffball's walking funny
You've got to be fucking kidding me
This fucking cat
Is this one that was panting in the heat
Fucking kidding me
This is her fourth trip
So what's she been for so far
Panting
Yeah
Fight with another cat
And now this
Plus
She was returned to the vets
By someone else
Because she was in their house
while we were on holiday
and then the vets phoned us
and said they got fluffball.
Right, okay, so she's full time.
Plus she's been spayed.
So that was another trip, yeah.
Yeah.
Well, I would say, though, you do love a trip to an emergency room.
Even with your children, you loved it down there.
You haven't been since you went to exit.
I think it's because it's a friendly.
Yeah, it's a London thing.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
People don't get hurt in Exeter.
Was there any injuries in the crash?
Get this.
Get this.
run with a lorry.
No injuries.
There's no injuries.
There's no injuries.
Yeah.
It's quite visceral when you get a hit.
When a bit flies off your car.
It's loud and scary.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm not telling it's not.
It is.
No, no, no.
I was just saying it.
You've been for a lot.
It's like when you fall over and it suddenly feels weird.
Oh, I felt my hand really bad.
I see that in there?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, what?
Bloody out of all.
I was trying to do a flat pack.
And rather than get the right thing I needed, I was
stabbing at it with a screwdriver.
snipped off, cracked in my hand.
Oh, God.
It looks like stigmata.
It does, doesn't it?
I know.
It's really hard to play golf for that, actually.
Oh, no.
So just, if you see me shanking a few out there guys and gals,
I'm coming back from injury.
Like Tiger Woods after one of his car crashes.
You not got a little glove, Rob?
Yeah, so I had a plaster on it and a glove,
and it gave it a bit of protection.
But I'd have a little glove, yeah.
And I wear the little glove.
I wear it a little glove.
I wear it for putting, which they tell me off for the golfer boys.
Yeah.
Yeah, well, just tell them that you're a fucking renegade.
You can't get me right feel for it.
Anyone that's really into sport, apart from football is a pervert, I find.
You are?
No, anyone that's into sport that has equipment get a bit perverted with it,
whereas, oh, you've got to have a real feel for it with a glove off.
Well, that incitcline's, oh, you've got to have that liquor on you.
I'm not a gear guy.
No.
Fluffball's leg.
So then we're like, oh, fuck.
It's out of hours.
So our local vet.
they don't do out of hours.
So you've got to go to Crediton.
How bad is the leg at this point?
Because I'd probably...
Well, Eddie died when her legs went.
Right.
Because it shows that something's gone wrong in the thing.
So we phoned them up and they're like, you should bring her in.
Okay.
She's unable to spring.
She's walking like she's dragging her back legs.
Okay.
That's not good.
Not good.
So then I'm like, fuck, I haven't got a car.
You've got to be fucking kidding me.
Oh, my only criticism, I'd say, of this story so far is it took me seven seconds to find out it was legal.
I'll tell you who I won't be telling. I tell you I won't be telling my friend Lucy, who drove me to credited them back.
How far is that?
25 minutes each way.
Oh, and you could have done it?
Could have probably done it?
Yeah, so she drives me to crediting.
Fluffball's okay.
Is that real place?
Creditin.
What?
So that's the wrong place.
Yeah, so I'll just check it.
Yeah, of course, yeah, checking.
They think it's soft tissue.
They're not sure.
She's got, she has painkillers.
She's got to have them at 9pm every evening for a week,
which makes obviously the fact that we've got people coming to feed our cats
a lot more difficult because they were going to do it at 9 and 5.30.
So now we've got to find someone who can come and deliver a painkiller at 9 p.m. every evening.
Why can't it be a bit earlier?
We're allowed to move it forward half an hour a day.
So by the end of the week,
Oh, is that because when they got the first dose?
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, fuck.
Oh, mate.
You could bring it forward.
Well, not with fluffball.
It's a fucking sick note from the start to...
Fluffball's still dragging her legs a little bit today.
And they were like, maybe if she is tomorrow, you need to bring her in.
You're like, oh, my God.
So tomorrow you're going to Cornwall.
I don't know whether we will.
Just a later day.
And now for a special part of today's show,
stories that make you feel and it's brought to you by Hulu on Disney Plus.
Josh, it's time to get real. Can I tell you about some shows I've been enjoying recently?
Please do, Rob. Hit me hard between the eyes.
I've been watching Rivals.
Of course you have. It's brilliant, Rob. It's absolutely brilliant.
Well, I hadn't seen it because I started it when season two came out.
Yeah. I didn't know what to expect. Love it.
The thing about rivals, right, is it, you know when it starts and there's a scene on the plane
and it's like really 80s and it's funny and it's kind of camp and it's kind of kitch.
Yeah.
And you're like, oh, this is a bit of fun.
Oh, there's some naked tennis.
Do you know what I mean?
Yeah.
And then it actually, because obviously, Jilly Cooper is an incredible writer, it's got deep heart to it, Rob.
Yeah.
It shocked me because I thought this is just silly fun.
But then I was like, why do I care so much?
I'm in.
They've got me.
Well, Rob, if you're struggling with your,
overly emotional involvement in shows.
The bear might not be for you because it's brilliant.
It's emotionally involving.
It's quite intense, isn't it?
It captures the intensity of the kitchen so well.
It's also a brilliant family saga.
It's soundtrack as well absolutely hits me in the heart to the point where you know when
you watch a show.
Yeah.
And I don't think I've downloaded more songs from a show, Rob,
because the songs hit you emotionally and you're like,
I'm going to listen to that again
because then I'll get that emotional effect again.
Do you know what I mean?
Really?
Yeah.
Isn't it like someone, I've not seen it yet.
It's on my list, but me and Lou are doing rivals first
and then doing that because we love what.
The exciting thing is me and Lou haven't watched a series for ages together
because I've been touring.
But I watched rivals and I watched three episodes and I said,
Lou, you're going to love this.
I'm going to stop watching.
Yeah.
Wait for you to catch up.
We're in this together.
Yeah.
Someone said though that I'm a bit worried the bear.
Have you done to see the Christmas?
Is it the Christmas episode?
Yeah.
Christmas dinner episode where it's like people say it's something stressful,
a bit of like intense TV.
Well, there's an intensity.
There's a breathless intensity.
There's a bit of that in Roller's as well at points.
So it's going to be stressful.
It can be tense like that.
And also then some episodes are really funny.
So then when you're hit with the stressful and tense ones, Rob,
yeah.
Maybe your guard is down.
It just stays with you.
Oh, man.
I feel like I'm in that kitchen in Chicago.
go right now. It feels like it's affected you, Josh, because you're still downloading the
songs to revisit that emotion. Exactly. Exactly. So I can feel something more.
You're an emotional dude. You know that. What I don't want people to think is that we're just looking
for, you know, you know, extreme emotion because A, the bear's funny, but B, if you want pure
laughter, modern family, Rob. Modern family is the most you will laugh in whatever the length
of it is, you know, those kind of 22 minute episodes or whatever they are. Yeah. They are so tightly
written, tightly packed, every character is perfect.
There's very few shows ever made that you will laugh as much as modern family.
Yeah.
Well, Rob, these are the moments that made us feel something.
And that's what TV is for, isn't it, Rob?
And now it's your turn listeners.
What's going to get you teary?
What's going to get you laughing?
What's going to get you full of joy?
Let us know what you've been watching on Hulu on Disney Plus in the comment section below.
And we can be discussing it next time, Rob.
Make sure you check out a lifetime of great stories with Hulu on Disney Plus.

We might delay it because we were meant to be picking up.
Costa car hires just come in.
849 pounds.
Fuck my fucking lies.
Why are you getting a car from a coffee shop?
What?
Cost a car.
Cost a car car hire.
No, cost of.
Oh, I thought it's cost of cars.
Just drive.
You can drive.
You'll be fine.
Just drive it.
Can you drive?
This is so disrespectful, Michael.
He's ignoring me.
I know, but what if I got done?
And you just say, Rob Beckett told me on a podcast as your only backup.
Yeah.
All right, fine, you can.
I can buy, I'm going to buy one of these temporary wing mirrors now.
Yes, do that now.
So it comes in time.
By the way, guess what my son, my son, we've got a new cleaner.
A quick bit of ADHD, do you?
Nearly got a task done.
It's because I went on Amazon and it showed my last.
search.
He wants a wet floor sign.
He wants a wet floor sign.
Yeah, because he's been helping our cleaner.
Oh, and he wants to put that up once he's moped.
Yeah.
He wants a mop and a wet floor sign.
His kid's got very chilled.
He likes vans and cleaning signs.
Now he's got into Lego.
He's really into Lego.
Yeah, he loves Lego.
And all he wants to do is browse the Lego City options.
on my phone
and he's like,
I'm going to buy all of these.
There's 74 of them.
He doesn't realize
how long that's going to take
if he's saving a five-prens.
That's about 200 grand,
isn't it?
74 sets?
Yeah.
So there we go.
Yeah.
Anyway,
so that's where I am.
You're going to run out of time.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I need to order it now, don't I?
Yeah, order a temple.
Why don't you just get from a shop?
You get it today?
Because I can't, oh, I can drive there, yeah.
Do you know what?
I'm going to London today.
You're going to London?
Oh, that's the other thing.
What?
You're going to Cornwall tomorrow?
I know, Rob.
Why are you going to London today?
I'm doing one of Will Briggs's gigs.
Oh, well, a festival gigs?
Yeah.
Right, okay.
I'm doing Somerset House for Will Briggs,
and then I'm getting a car back,
so I'll get back at about half two in the morning.
And, right.
Oh, guess what arrived?
I can't keep up.
This is an absolute rollercoaster.
That's God.
My head's gone.
Right, so what's arrived?
I lied to you on the last podcast because I was embarrassed, Rob.
Go on.
I wasn't Steve being on a mattress.
I was still on the floor floor.
But I just felt it was too shameful.
So you haven't bought a mattress.
You're still just on the top of up.
It arrived.
It arrived yesterday.
So you said, okay.
Right.
Do you sleep on it last night?
No, because I was too tired to get it out of the box.
I, Judge, I just think.
you getting some sleep is such a big priority for you.
I know.
It has to be, you can't live like this is mental.
Also, the irony, if you keep rent, someone said,
Josh keeps renting a room to do a podcast from it,
goes home to sleep on the floor.
So you're not going to get it out tonight either, are you?
Because by the time you get back.
I'll try and do it when I get home.
You can't.
You get home at three in the morning.
No, no, when I get home from this,
I've got three of the floor.
downtime. Yeah, but I
wonder whether I can do that on my way
to Will Briggs's gig. No.
You can't get in a...
How are you getting the train there?
Yeah. Well, there'll be more... You're better off going to
like an exit out of town, Halford's place, and you are in London.
I'm in town for this.
Yeah, but you can go...
Why Halford's not do the High Street?
No, but it makes sense.
You need to get a car there.
Yeah, but you're...
The main bits of London don't have car spares.
It'll have tracksuits and handbags and watches.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
John Lewis won't do a wing mirror, will be?
No. No.
And if they did, that would be a lovely one, wouldn't it?
Oh, it would be great.
I love John Lewis.
That was free.
So cool that you have got a bit of a busy one.
And then we've got this.
What are you doing this afternoon just travelling up?
What are you doing now?
You're reading messages?
Yeah.
My head's gone.
My head's gone.
let's deal with the wing mirror afterwards tell me about your stressful period just order it now quickly if you want and then it's done
well no because i think i should go to health it's definitely not going to come into my website yeah
oh yeah because it's got to come by four p.m tomorrow yeah i've got a bit of a busy few days because the kids
are in clubs today and tomorrow i've got bad news for you on clubs go on i've been talking to some
people who've got 11 and 12 year olds rock yeah they don't do clubs anymore okay so this is your
summer of clubs.
I've got a 10 and a half year old and she's loving it.
Give it a year.
She'll be too cool for clubs.
Well,
it depends on the clubs.
They don't like ones where it's like
loads of different things and random kids,
but they like ones that are like,
if it's one thing they're really into.
Yes.
And they've got to buy that.
But those, I never like those.
I think they were called buzz camps when I was a kid
where you basically turn up and it's like, right,
we're doing rounders now.
Oh, now we're doing painting.
I didn't get put in those and I would have hated it.
We only did it one.
and I didn't like it.
I'm a lone wolf, really.
You're a lone wolf?
Yeah.
Yeah, Lone Ranger.
I'm a lone, yeah, I'm a gun for hire.
Oh, yeah, but I wouldn't say you present as a lone wolf,
like the jobs you do.
Like, everything you do is like an ensemble.
Yeah, I do like that.
Yeah, like last leg, this.
I'm a lone wolf that likes working with other people.
But even when, yeah, yes, yeah.
And then strictly, I wouldn't say that's a lone wolf kind of presenter job.
That's not a lone wolf.
And also when I'm poor, I like to have a support, otherwise I feel too lonely.
Yeah.
But apart from that, I'm a like a move.
Can I say something that makes me sound like a boomer?
Yeah.
I'm a little bit annoyed about these sort of heat wave stuff.
Like, I know it's a very hot summer and there's been heat waves.
And I accept this climate change.
This is not a climate change denier.
But I'm at the point of going, well, look, it's getting too hot.
It's an absolute nightmare.
It looks like there's nothing we can do.
Let's just put aircon everywhere.
Right.
That's my answer to that is, accept your fate.
It's well too hot.
Let's just at least make our eventual demise cooler on the way out.
Right.
And even if it cuts off 20 years of the world's life,
at least we won't be sweating for the next 100 or 80 years.
I do take the ACAS.
I remember ACAS saying to me,
the world will be fine.
It's humanity that will die.
The world will recover once we all die.
Yeah, exactly.
So that's a good way to look at it.
Yeah.
So I think sort of air-con, because the news-
I disagree with you, but it's not worth.
getting into.
What,
you disagree with what?
Putting air-con in everywhere.
I do think we should try
and fight climate change.
Yeah, but how do you do that?
Well, I don't think this is the format.
Why not?
Well,
I'm genuinely interested.
Is that recycling helping?
Well, I think it has to,
my view.
Yeah, go on.
It has to be done.
Because I need a view.
I haven't got one so if yours is good.
If yours is better than the one I just had,
I'll have your view.
Well, I think it has to be
done at a higher governmental level.
Yeah, me too.
It's not, it's not down to Rob Beckett.
No.
Do you know, Sean Lott used to have a good routine.
I tell you who do, like my cab driver.
Yeah, he used to be so good on eight out of ten cats before it went downhill.
But anyway, right?
About washing up his marmite jar while China's factories are just pumping stuff into the sky.
You know what I mean?
So I think it's the guilt is not on me or you or us.
No.
The guilt is on governments who need to all come together to fight this thing together.
And maybe we need to pressure them to do so.
Yeah.
But I think we should.
But in the meantime, in the meantime, can the government put some more air con in places?
Where are you looking?
Public schools.
Yeah.
Sort of like public buildings, hospitals.
Yeah, I think that would be good.
Stuff like that would be nice, wouldn't it?
Yeah.
Anyway.
Yeah.
But no, but it's just annoying me because of the news.
They went, the fourth heat wave will hit next week.
And I was like, oh, blind me.
Okay, right.
So I looked at my phone.
Fourth?
Yeah, but Josh, it seems to have gotten the whole way through.
But Josh, I looked at it.
It was 25 all week, but Wednesday was 32.
That's not a heat wave.
That's one hot day.
How's your grass?
Fought.
My grass is a right off.
It honestly looks like someone's...
Will you ever come?
back from this. It's actually raining
outside at the moment. It looks like someone
set fire to Harlan's pubes.
Sorry,
apologies for the football.
So tell me what's happening.
So the kids are in clubs. Who's gone away working
overnight? She's a
Best of all to do
a talk.
And then when she's come back from Best of all,
we are going to
France and Germany for our little road trip.
Yeah. So
she's away. So today, the kids have been dropped off, but I've got a film in this afternoon.
I've booked in a golf filming day with Tom Davis. And there's a babysitter coming to pick the
girls up to bring them back home because I'll be home about seven-ish. So I won't have to get them
from the club. Then tomorrow's a big day because I'm not working, but I've got to get the kids
to their club thing. And they've got a performance in the evening. So I've got drop them off
in the morning, but I've got drop them off with pat lunches made and also two outfits. One needs to be
dressed as someone from Star Trek. One needs to be dressed as a builder. The other one also
needs to be dressed as a scientist and the other one is just in sort of black leggings.
Sorry, what the fuck? No, no disrespect to the club. What the fuck is the club?
It's like a musical theatre club. So it's like they're doing some sort of performance.
How are you getting these outfits? Well, there's some in the bedrooms that we can repurpose.
Also, coming from Amazon is a lab coat and a builder's helmet and a cape because one's got to be
Star Wars. One's got to be Ray from Star Wars. Anyway, so tomorrow morning I've got to make sure they've got
all their costumes, all the pack lunches done, take them to the club.
I've also got to take the dogs to the kennels for when we go on holiday.
Then I've got my...
There's so much more trouble than cats.
They are.
And then I've got my...
I've got a dentist and then I've got to speak, go and speak to a builder.
Then I've got to get the car cleaned.
Could you not delay the dentist, Rob?
I've delayed the dentist for like two years.
But I accept that.
What is it?
I could...
I just don't know when I'm going to go again.
And I just think I've got...
I just want to get checked out.
but that is where the buffer could be created.
And I'm actually considering it now.
Yeah.
I don't want to be that guy that moves it last minute.
Yeah.
Anyway, but should I move it?
Dentists, I'll be honest,
they always fill those slots
because people are desperate to go to the dentist.
Oh, God.
Now I'm looking at my phone.
You're on a podcast.
It's all right.
Because that would be really ill because I could drop the dogs
and I could come back, do all that I could get.
Don't do the dentist.
The dentist.
No, because I've got a pack.
in pain.
Yeah.
No,
you can just go.
Lose going away.
So lose away.
So I'm packing all the stuff
for holiday.
Don't,
don't go to the dentist?
No,
I need to cancel the dentist.
Don't I move it?
You're listening to dentists.
I apologize,
but I've over committed.
That counts.
That counts is canceling it if you're listening.
Yeah.
Okay,
yeah.
I'm going to reschedule that.
I'm going to,
you know what?
I'm sorry.
I'm going to do that now.
Just quickly.
What?
What?
You're going to phone the dentist?
I'm not going to phone the dentist.
I was going to email the dentist's
unmanned automated email. Oh my God. I'll ring them up. I think you might need to phone the dentist.
Should I ring them now? Yeah. Okay. It's not a good podcast. I'll do it in a minute.
It's all right because I'm putting on a, um... I'll call them after this recall, because we're nearly done.
Remind me to do that, guys. Yeah, I'm going to do that because that's what that gives me, if I can drop the kids off and the dogs, then because also, Josh, after I see the building in the afternoon, I've then got to get back to the, to the club to watch their show at half four.
And then I've got to bring them back.
Yeah, so I think that Dennis has got to go to free ups and buffer.
Yeah.
And reschedule it.
It's unnecessary.
Summer holiday, right?
A, you know, I don't know how people do it that have a proper job that they can't shunt around.
Because we're shunting stuff around.
We're recording extra podcasts this week.
We're doing stuff like, you know, we're not having guests or whatever.
We're lucky that we've got a bit of control over arrival times of stuff or what we're doing.
I'm doing stuff like I'm doing this gig
and then I'm just getting back and then it's, you know.
But like, yes, today is free.
But like, it's when you go on holiday,
you have to get so much done.
It's like, my agent's going on holiday next week.
And she's just so, like, having to, like, go,
Josh, do you want a car for this thing on August 13th or whatever now?
Do you know what I mean?
Because you have to get all of your work done before you go on holiday.
And so it's not just that you've got the kids,
but you're trying to do twice the work in half the time.
Well, that's why I booked it all in this week,
because they were in clubs.
I've overbooked myself, really.
So I'm going to move the dentist,
and then that'll free me up so that I know that once they're dropped off,
I can come home, get all their stuff packed before I come back out in.
The next episode, which is about Rob's toothache in Germany
when he had to pay to have a tooth removed by a German dentist.
No, I'm going to move it to next one.
the week after whenever, oh, fuck, I don't know.
But yeah.
I'll phone him at the end because we're doing this.
Oh, this is a funny, do you want to hear this?
Is a funny message from my mum, yeah.
So I said, do they want to come up and see the show that we did?
The kids doing, sorry.
Yeah.
And I said, do you want to come up and watch this doing an end of club show?
And my mom replied this.
It really made me laugh.
Do you want to cut?
I'll say, girls are in a show at first.
4 o'clock on Friday if you want to come and watch.
She says, we'd love to, but going out with Karen and Paul for dinner and Elvis impersonator at
the casino, definitely next time.
She's really knocking out the big impersonator.
She did Sheer last week.
She's doing the absolute...
She loves a tribute act.
One impersonator at a time.
Yeah, she absolutely loves it.
Go to sit tail swift impersonator.
the weekend impersonator?
He's a big deal, isn't it?
I don't think she's a weekend fan, my mom.
No, but she's not.
So doing that, what else has been going on?
That's it, really?
You sent me a picture I haven't been allowed to look at.
Oh, yeah, have a look at it now.
Basically, I'll tell you what it is first.
That's one for socials.
Weirdly, on my computer, it changes the backdrop,
the wallpaper with, like, a random photo.
Normally it's like a beautiful scenery scene,
but I didn't know it had done this,
and I looked up and I shacked my pants
because it's right by my window.
And it's a giant budgie on a cactus.
But it's been zoomed in, but I shit myself
because it looks like a giant bird's about to attack me.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my Lord.
This is a lovely image of my chin as well.
Yeah.
Just you setting up your camera?
Did you see, have you seen my camera set up for today, Rob?
No.
We'll pop that on the Instagram.
Have you said, well, we've put it stuff on the Instagram, actually.
Yeah.
Are you enjoying the summer?
Yogget again.
yoga upside down cup
How was the yoga and the milk after they were cold
when it got hot?
So the milk was all right
but then full disclosure
when I came to come
to pack my bag for today
I did find two pints of milk in my bag
that had been sat there for three days
so I had to pour them
It's good to sit down to your camera
Do you want to see what our wing mirror looks like
Rob?
And it will give you a feeling
for how
how dirty our car is as well
because that's something I haven't got around to doing
I need to get my car's disgusted
it's actually disgusting
to the people are commenting on it
these are all great things to the socials
get on the socials
oh that's your wing mirror
although that is really gone that isn't it
oh and it's like an electrical one as well
so they're more expensive
no wonder they're fucking coming from Germany
your car's horrendous it looks like it's been abandoned
I know do you know the worst thing about the wing mirror
what's that
I looked at it and before taking the photo
I had to clear the cobwebs off
wing mirror.
Oh, you should have left it.
Come on, mate.
You know who you are.
Will you ever get another card, do you think?
Michael, here's an idea.
Okay.
You are real ADHD vibes today.
I've enjoyed it.
Michael, you there?
I'm ready.
I'm braced.
When we do those pictures,
should we be flashing them up on the video version?
I can tell someone doesn't watch the show back.
Is that happening already?
Yeah.
Great work.
Great work.
So basically, well done Michael.
Well done Michael.
It's never heard.
Michael, how do you feel about how little we know what's going on?
I love the level of trust that we have in each other.
Yes, that's what it is.
It would be weird if I was watching the show back.
Oh, God.
Yes, to a small business.
