Starting point is 00:01:40 Hello, you're listening to Parenting Hell with... Is that you coughing? Yeah, was that right? Well normally we play a clip but you coughed into the mic and I can hear your child crying. Oh sorry about, sorry about the crying. I just washed my son's hair. I literally are the last minute washed his, washed my children's hair because we're recording the day before they go back to school. This is an insane decision by the way this house because of our schedules of trying to be good parents and work we are recording after half-term at 7 p.m. on a Sunday night it's cardage in my house it's fucking
Starting point is 00:02:21 mental. I had to do two hair washes. Yes. Washing my son's hair is Harrowing for both him and the adult so how long is his hair now? There's a way it's as long as it's never been cut. Yeah, but that doesn't get help me with length does it? Oh, can you know he's not happy? I'd say it's as long as it's never been cut. Oh yeah, brilliant. Cool, that's okay. All right. I'd say Steve McMahonman when he had longer hair. Do you remember that?
Starting point is 00:02:50 Yeah, yeah, okay. I'll get it. Yeah. Yeah. He's a pain in the bubble. My girls have got longer hair than the other. And the longer the hair, the longer longer, the the the hair, the the the the longer, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th, I's, I, I, I, I's, I's, I's, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, thoome, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's. that's. that's. that's. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. th. thin. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. toe. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the hair, the like anything, the big of the hassle. Yeah, he's absolutely kicking off. He doesn't even know he's going back to nursery tomorrow. I mean that's a bit of an obvious statement, but I've read an obvious statement today.
Starting point is 00:03:11 I've got a fire right in our new house. There's got a fireplace, but it's not like a wood one or like a ga- it's a bio-effinal one, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, it, it, it, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's a that, it's a that, it's a that's a that's a bi, it's a bio, it's a bi, it's a bi, it's a bi, it's a bi, it's a bi, it's a bi, it's a bio, it's a bio, it's a bio, it's a bio, it's a bio, it's a bio, it's a bio, it's a bio, it's a bio, it's a bio, it's a bio, it's a bio, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's a, it's a bit, it's a bit, it's a bit, it's a bit, it's a bit, it's a bit, it's a bit, it's a bit, it's a bit, that's a bi, that's a bi, that's a bi, that's a bi, that's a bi, that's a bi, that's a bi, it's quite good and it doesn't make anything smelly or stain anything right yeah it's run out so I googled it and I was like trying to work out what one to get where to get it for how much to put in and so and it says how much biofinal fuel to use and it said if you put in half a liter it won't it won't burn as long as a liter in some cases it will burn for half the amount of time. What? Oh right, I see. So obvious. And then it said, also be careful not to fill it up beyond the maximum capacity. Who's reading?
Starting point is 00:03:54 Who's just chugging it in? Anyway, Josh, we didn't play the clip. Oh yeah, let's play. That's what you're supposed to. All I can hear is my son kicking off. Yeah, but compartment, but compartment, but compartment, the compartment, the compartment compartment. Comed. All I can hear is my son kicking off. Yeah, but you can look, compartmentalize, come on. Just pull the barriers down. Compartmentalize? I'm not the only one in the house are you? He's Rosin? Rose and her mom are downstairs. Oh, that's too. That can deal with that. I know, but her mom was filling in a survey about fermented foods. I throw. the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. When we're not getting an email going, please fill in the server about how we did, like from a shoe shop. Oh yeah, of course. I'll give you money, you give me shoes. That's the end of our contact. Well, I don't know. I think she might be getting free pickles. Pickles.
Starting point is 00:04:56 Free Kim the career. She's off a nut and Kim tri- She thinks she's in Korea downstairs. Um, anyway, should we play the clip? Yeah. Oh, am I playing it? Starting point is 00:06:29 And sometimes when you lose it when you're two and a half, he's just starting to have really big breakdowns. Okay. What's he doing over committing to jobs in TV? He's got live of the Apollo tomorrow, I'm pointless. Josh, I'm so excited to talk to you because I love my children, but a long time of them. My daughter, and she's seven, has just had a meltdown about going to bed. She's like, I just don't want to. I went, why not?
Starting point is 00:06:59 She went, I'm too tired. Not going to bed. And I just, I don't don't don't don't don't don't don't want I don't want I don't want the energy I don't want the energy I don't want the energy I don't want the energy I don't want, I don't want, I don't want, I don't want, I don't want, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't want, I'm to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to'm not going to bed. And that's what I don't want to do. You're in bed. Well, you feel all the energy you've got to muster is to not be awake. I'm so tired, Rob. Half terms a week. Right. I've been writing notes in my phone, Rob. What are we going to do? What's the best way of approaching this? Can we went to Puglia. Of course you did. With Puglia. Puglia. Puglia? Puglia. Puglia. Puglia. Poulia. Italy. Let's call it Italy. Did the kids have fun with that name? They weren't interested. What they's called you went to something called Poulia and your kids didn't want to know? Starting point is 00:07:49 I don't think really. They just, they didn't nail down the location. Yeah. Well, they weren't discussing which which region of which Right, well, do you mean to go, I tell you what, there's been a lot going on. Why don't we go through yours? Because I think what the country's looking for is your third take on Disney. I still like it. Still like it. Um, well, there was a change though because I went on a scary ride. Right. So, and then if, we'll see how that goes, and if we overshoot, we'll just do me next time. How's that sound?
Starting point is 00:08:27 That sounds a good idea. Okay. Because I'll just tell you now, I've got a birth, I've got a trip to Legoland, a trip to Puglia and a bath time. That's great. Starting point is 00:08:55 Can I just close this door. Yeah, oh dear. There you go. It'll stop crying. Poor little guy. So how do you feel what he's crying. The worry about that is I've got an exact timer on his crying because of when we started the episode. Are you trying to do cry out then or something or what do you do when they cry? He's not, Rob. He's with humans. Oh, he's just got out the bath and he's fucking livid.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Right, because he didn't like the bath and he's just got the um, terrible to his tantrums. Yeah, exactly. He's with people. He's not having to taste fermented fruit and give his feedback, is he? No, he's not. Would you say you've got more or less anger after this kimchi? You know what? I don't mind a bit of kimchi, but I can be a full bowl of it. No, you're not made to eat a full bowl of it from. Do they? How you've been? You know, a whole bowl of it, mate?
Starting point is 00:10:00 Kimbler? Oh, go ahead. I've got some kimchi. Can Can I have some kimji? Just a bowl of kimchie? What one dinner I had a bowl of black bean sauce? That's all it was. Should I go and check on him? Well no, there's two adults with him Josh. I say freeze a crowd. Yeah, well my daughter's with him as well. Oh, right. Okay. Well, where is the terrible twos. He is? Well, no, my trip started Josh with, I was working, I was doing that panel show together with Allison Hammons.
Starting point is 00:10:43 I landed at 6 a.m. this morning. Right so what time is it for you? In America time, I don't know. And anyway, I picked up a one of Lou Stanley cups of them big water things. Drunk it. Yeah. I thought that immediately that was weird. Yeah. She went, what have you just done? I went drunk a bit, but the drink. by her bed, she when that's been up here weeks. Looked, looked in it, Josh.
Starting point is 00:11:27 I thought the taste, I thought of, that tastes a bit like mold, looked in it, the moldy single. Right? I'm fucking up. And then- How's it been up there weeks? What is it, my car? I was like, also, why buy the bed? to put it on the floor?. the, the, the, to, the, to, to, to, the, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, I, I, I, thi, I'm, I'm, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, the, the, the, the, t, t, t, t, t, t, t.. tod. tod. tod. today. the the the, they. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, the, the toilet or something like, or just empty, or fucking empty and take it down, Josh, is the other option.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Yeah, that's the option. So I was like, oh God, I'm getting on a flight tomorrow. I thought, in the time it took for me to go, I think I should make myself sick to get that out of my stomach, because I drunk quite a been speak before. Do you think that was psychosomatic, like, because you knew, or do you think it was? It was, I looked, googled it, you can immediately vomit. And I've never had that before. It was horrible. You'd get that with salt walk, aren't you?
Starting point is 00:12:15 Like, if it's that bad, it just comes back up. Yeah, straight away. Your body just basically your body rejects it. I I I. I. I. I. I. I. I. Yeah, can't they take him out from all? I just need to, I just, I just, I don't know what it'd achieved by their everything it... I think it's worth a go and I'm interested
Starting point is 00:12:45 here in Rose's response as you shuffle down with your airpods in. Is everything okay? No it's not okay. The key keeps fucking screaming Josh why you're up they're pretending... It's louder with a door open, isn't it? Oh here comes Josh. I think he sorted it all out. It seems to have stopped Josh. Well that, no, it wasn't my doing. What did they do? Well, he's very tired. Yes, yes, of course. He's dropping his nap. Oh, here we go. And it's combined with, um, obviously I hadn't realized it is 820 his time, not seven twenty because the clock's going back. Oh, so you put him down, down past his bedtime? Yeah. Right and you forgot the
Starting point is 00:13:25 clocks? No no well I in my head I've forgotten the clocks but obviously he's fucking knackered. Yeah of course and then I've basically waterboarded in with shampoo and then I've gone and done a podcast. Let's talk about your day and then we'll get back to holiday it feels like your day's been stressful. No it's just been stressful since we got back from the holiday. Yeah, it's... When did you get back? Friday evening, 10 hours from Italy all in. We had one of those drivers back.
Starting point is 00:13:52 No, but it's like two and a half hours before the flight. Get the flight. The flight was delayed. We had to sit for an hour, etc. We got one of those taxi drivers on the way home. Have you ever th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th th th tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho xi drivers on the way home. Have you ever had one of these guys where they can't maintain a consistent speed? So they go, say they want to go, 65. This is very nice.
Starting point is 00:14:14 I'm sticking with you. Yeah. And it'll hit it and then they'll take their foot off slowly to rest. Would they do? So you know what the sound of it yeah I'll give you I'll give you a yeah they'll give you like a 20 seconds of what I'm experiencing okay. RUM! RUM! RUM! Have you had one of those guys? You're on 15 seconds wait, give us you have a fun? Ummm. So he's not able to go, what you need is? What you need is? Have you had one of those guys? You're on 15 seconds wait, give us you have a phone. Um, so he's not able to go, what you need is, um, like the right speed. Yeah, but he's accelerating to get there, like someone kind of pushing a kind of box along a street or something, like.
Starting point is 00:15:02 Have you ever had one of those people? It makes you feel fucking sick. I tell you that's what it makes you feel. I'm not going mad. Have you had someone who drives like that, Michael? I've had it once going to be. I had it once going from JFK to Manhattan and I got out of the taxi and I was sick at the porter's feet.
Starting point is 00:15:23 There you go. So you be, I just want to watch. I have had that before, I had to get out and walk. I've told the story before, I said to the, we were stuck in traffic and I was so sick from it because he kept in the room. Ruh, you know that, I thought out when I walk from here it was about half an hour but I thought I'd rather just walk and then I walked for about 10 meters and then I was sick in a skip because I was like and then he pulled up alongside me because
Starting point is 00:15:52 he was in the traffic you were alright I thought I'd not been sick of a skip mate what do you think and then he said I've been doing this job 20 years at one point I thoughtthought how? Like surely you can maintain a consistent pressure in your foot by now. Like but anyway, that's neither here nor there. Then we had a very stressful week. How was how was the flight with a two and a half year old? Because that's pre-Ipad isn't like that's earlier than my rule of no holidays till they're four? It was great on the way back because he was it was it was the the the the the the their. th. It was great. It was great. It was great. It was great. It was great. It was great. It was great. It was great. It was great. He slept for an hour and a half and then he just watched the iPad. Oh, that's all right. And on the way there, there was a lot of walking up and down, but that was fine. People were saying, hello, you Josh Whitakam? Well, I did warn you this was going to happen.
Starting point is 00:16:38 That we were on with another family that were going on holiday with, and they were in standard in and we were in club Europe. Right, okay, which means you get a bit of extra space and a bit of food, don't you? You get the middle bit. You don't get the nutrient bath thrown at your head from about three rows down, yeah, yeah. So they were literally the front row of Standard and we were the back row of Club Europe so there was just a curtain in between us. Could you talk the 'd stick my head through. Don't worry about me, I'm still one of the guys. How's it shaking back there? They just did warn me that someone on the flight had taken a fight of my head sticking through the curtain. Oh I want to say that no. No no. So it's just the play with my head. So I'm fucking with the car. How was it? How was B.A. All the the the the the th. All the the th. All th. the th. the the th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. Starting point is 00:17:28 Bari Airport's intense. I tell you that for free. You have to do an extra. Do you know what? I don't think anyone would pay. I don't know. I've got a traw coming up in a couple years. Patreon 8 quid to hear Josh's views on Bari Airport. Why is it intense? So you go through, you get to the departure lounge thing with all the cafes, and then you get to the gate and there's another passport check to go in the gate.
Starting point is 00:17:58 And there was a queue snaking back and on it it was saying last call. And people were going fucking mental in panic and then someone turned up about ten like really late and I felt fucking elated because I thought you know that at least I'm not him feeling yeah but you made the flight we all made the flight and then it was kept on the runway for an hour. How was it sharing with people in a villa all good? But we'll come to this, Rob. Why don't we just freeform it? We'll free for.
Starting point is 00:18:30 I want to hear about you throwing up. I want to hear about you throwing up. Okay, yeah. I was sick. I was sick. expel it and then back to normal? It took a little while. I didn't have dinner that night. I knew I'd been through something. Yeah. It was so horrible Josh. I can, when I close my eyes, I can still taste it. It's so furry. Oh fuck. And what happened to the cup? Is the cup completely disposed of? Well, no, I put it on the side. I washed it out a bit. I thought I'd washed it all out, left it and so I'd come back more mould in it. I'm going to have to throw it out.
Starting point is 00:19:06 Oh my God. I don't have Lou down as a cupkeeper. Rose has a go at me for keeping my cups on the bedside table. Yeah. I have Lou down as the kind of person that would take us down in the morning. I'd say she, sorry. Sorry. That is my kind of humor. That is my kind of humor. When I drink from Lou's Ferry Cup, I vomit.
Starting point is 00:19:35 Well, I'd say Lou and this is very delicate for me to say, because she does this in and or people will. Title's going to be a weird one for Lou, isn't it? Or people will tell her she does listen and people will say title's going to be a weird one for Lou isn't it one of the things out or people will tell her even if I don't say she I'd say is quite she's so quiet you know you know Uber you know Uber you know Uber you know Uber surges yeah where sometimes Uber was like eight quid or 300 thousand pounds right is a bit like she's like that with tidin in and cleaning it like it can either the the the the the the the the the the they can they can they they can they can they can they can they can the they can they th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the the. the thi thi thi. the. the. the. tho. th. th. th. It can either be the most pristine place in the world or it's just going to be messy now, but I never really know when the light, when the change happens kind of thing. But it was the lead
Starting point is 00:20:14 up to holiday so it was a bit of a messy, yeah, kind of thing in lose defense of her cup. Anyway, with Fluid Virgin, all good, no problems whatsoever, no delays. There was a guy on the way back called Josh, right? And he reminded me so much of Tom Alan. He was very camp, but also very like meticulous. You know what? Tom's very like, he was impeccably dressed. He was so lovely as well, his guy Josh, he was brilliant. Big up Josh at Virgin. But he was so sort of like smiley and sort of happy and pure. And I'm not saying Tom Allen isn't, but he basically was Tom Allen without hate. He's Tom Allen's got a bit, he can turn. He's got, he's a loveliest guy you'll ever meet Tom. But if someone, he's got an edge. He's grew up in South East London, if someone has a guy and he can turn on it, where this Josh guy, he felt like the pure version of some. Well, he grew up in Southeast London as Tom Allen.
Starting point is 00:21:05 He's part with a lot of shit. Exactly. Anyway, so that was all good. I'd love to see you in Florida doing the Disney parks, right? Because I genuinely think that I don't think, I think you'd pass out. Yeah. I think you'd have to like in Glastonbury, that's to take people to the tent when they've done too many drugs and it's overwhelming. I think you'd have to go to some sort of rescue because it is so an assault on all the senses. And I don't know if, I think you and Rose would lose your head.
Starting point is 00:21:33 I'll be honest, Lego land was quite intense for me. Right, well, well, talked. to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tha. tha. to to to to to tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tha. tha. It is is tha. It is tha. It's is tha. It's is so so so. It's is so so. It's to. It's to. It's toeea. toea. It's toea. So who went, just you and the two kids? Rose's mom came. Right, okay. Me, two kids, Rose's mom came to help with the child care and then B. When Charlie and his dad, Tom, and Charlie's obsessed with roller coasters. Right. He loves roller coasters and magic, but he's constantly doing magic tricks. He's obsessed with magic and roller coasters. He's obsessed with magic and roller coasters.
Starting point is 00:22:08 Right, okay. As his dad Tom says, two of the coolest things you could be into. Yeah. Yeah. My daughter went on the pirate ship initially. The part, the swinging pirate ship, yep. Yeah, didn't like it. Do you like rides? I. Do you like rides? I thought I liked rides. I've always done every ride that I have to do. Right, okay. Is it out of peer pressure? Yes. I've never really admitted that to myself. And then we did a roller coaster that I'll say it was tame. She didn't like that either. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Like give you an idea of the the the the the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed the speed of the s the speed the speed of the speed of the speed. I'm that that that that that that that. I'll. I'll. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I'm to. I'm to. I'm t. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm t. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I a dragon or something, I don't know. Like, give you an idea of the speed of it. My son went on it, and he's two and a half. And then she basically decided she didn't like the rides, just fair enough.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Yeah. Good honor. Legoland is a lovely place, I will say that. But we did then split up from Tom and Charlie. And we went on the carousella' th, the car, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, tho, tho, to to to to, to, to, to, to, and I to, and to, and to, and th, and th, and th, th, and th, th, and th, th, th, th, th, th, and, and, th, th, th, th, th, th, and th, and th, th, and I I th, th, and I th... And, th. And, thi, thin, thin, to to thoooooooooooo. And, to to to to to to to to to to to to to thi, and thi, andousel three times. You message me saying that like you're at Legoland but she doesn't like rides and then you've realized you don't like rides. Well what I realized is it was actually quite an important day in my life Rob I realized that I've done all these roller coasts and stuff throughout my life
Starting point is 00:23:23 for fear of people judging me. But actually, actually, I don't like them. And I was incredibly proud of her that she just decided she didn't like them straight away. I was like, fucking out. She saved herself 30 years of, I went to Dubai to do a gig three or four years ago. I remember you went up a big building with Jack D. No, that was a different gig. That's not a ride, that's an elevator. Yeah, we went to a fucking theme park in the middle of nowhere. And I had to go on all the rides because there was no cues. And I had a terrible time. And I had to pretend I was enjoying it? So did you get anxious or scared on them? I just don't enjoy it.
Starting point is 00:24:05 I don't mind it. I'm just like, I don't understand what, what is this? Why am I meant to enjoy this? I don't want to be scared. I'm just, I'm quite happy. Stood still, thank you very much. My daughter loves doing gymnastics and swing herself around bars and all that kind of stuff.
Starting point is 00:24:25 Things where I'm like, you're going to, that's quite dangerous. She doesn't mind if she's in control, but there's something about being on the rollercoasters she doesn't like. Do you know what I mean? Just sitting there. We have no control. Yeah. That's just the whole point.
Starting point is 00:24:37 So this is weird. I've never went on any rides. You've come into them. Right, because I was scared. But it was all anxiety. Again, because I couldn't be in control of it, and I'd have panic attacks before I went on. And then this time, I was sort of making sure I was breathing and going for it and forced myself on. And I'll be honest with it, I did not enjoy the first time around. And I've got the photograph photograph photograph the photograph photograph photograph photograph the photograph photograph photograph photograph photograph photograph photograph photograph photograph the photograph photograph photograph.
Starting point is 00:25:02 it you can see it on my Instagram but then when I went on again I actually loved it because in a way it's quite free and because you just surrender to it completely because when you have no control but there is no there is no control to be had you are literally just you're just like a lifeless mass being thrown through the world yes but in a way there's a metaphor for life isn't it that we're just stuck on us revolving things going way fast to fast of the roller coaster. And we don't really have any control over it. But do you know what I don't need, Rob, is a metaphor for my life when I'm already living it? I'm like, well, the whole point of the bars is there, that's doing that. So I just sort of held it loosely and was breathing and I didn't enjoy the first one round. But then after the others I I I I I I I I I I I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th th I th th th th th th th really really really th really th really th really the really the really the really the really the really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really to really th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th really th really th really th really the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th is there that's doing that. So I just sort of held it loosely and was breathing
Starting point is 00:25:45 and I didn't enjoy the first one round but then after the others I loved it and now I've really got into them Josh. You're not going to become one of those fucking weirdos are you? I am got any time for them Rob. What's that? Those grown-ups that go and roller coaster spotting. There's the grown-up. There's the the the the the grown. T the the the grown the grown the grown the the the grown the the grown th. T. T. T. T's the the th. T's the the th. T's th. The grown th. The grown th. I've tho tho tho the tho tho tho the tho tho tho tho tho tho th. I've th. I've a roller coaster. I don't think I want to go spotting them also. Is that hard? Sure let's use this copy ever. There's one, that's 300 foot in the air. But they'll go like, you know, the roller coaster collectors, the gundle or the roller coast. No, I'll, look, I enjoy them, but if Lou and the girls didn't want to go, I hated them and I was working my way up the levels in Disney and then Universal we went to this year. That we got to a point where the one, there was one that I had a panic attack on last year with Blue that I just sort of burst but then my daughters went on that as the first ride and I was waiting at the exit and I'm like this is awful. I've got a whole like of weeks of this. And then they came off so happy and I just weren't a part of it.
Starting point is 00:26:45 I felt like, I felt like watching a film, you know, like, yeah. When the main character dies and you just have to watch his family exist without him. I was like, well that's what I'm doing but I'm alive. And I was like, the only person stopping it's me and my mind. So I forced myself on them and I and I and I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I've, I, I've, I've, I, I, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the only only only, the only only only only only only, the only, the only only, it by the end but it was intense and also that what I've worked out Josh I'd rather be scared for two minutes and spend 35 minutes to an hour waiting by the exit and I have photos of no offence British tourists for an hour because I'm waiting then basically every 30 seconds another 25 tourists come out. I go right Rob and I'm a hello what you doing here just waiting for my
Starting point is 00:27:30 kids don't you know the rights now not really actually oh no brilliant oh yeah yeah you're full of adrenaline but actually I don't really like them so I'm quite anxious about them I think I've got a pain body because I've done therapy actually and I'm gonna try and try and try and try and ne next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next the next the next the next the next the next to the next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next next the next next next next next to to to to to the next next next next next next next next next next next next next next I'm not going back to university to be your friend. I told told you told you told you told you told you told you told you toon but I just sort of think this is my new way of thinking because on airplanes when it has turbulence I'm never scared
Starting point is 00:29:09 and now on roller coast I sort of just like go well if I die I die I don't and I probably won't because about 3,000 people go on this every day yeah but I'm into them now though but we've swapped one door open to close I think you'll change your mind though when your kids get older and they want to go on and because... No. Do you know what it is? They have so much excitement though the kids and adrenaline.
Starting point is 00:29:30 What if my kids, Rob, I think this is the thing. Kids are different. I never liked them. Well, my kids are sickheads and do all of it, right. to God that I've got two absolute nerds but not nerds in the sense they like rollercoasters. Well so my daughter's right when we was in Disney Tron and Garden into the Gallo and I think the Tron you have to be 48 inches tall and my youngest was just 48 inches with a pair of sketchers trainers on and when we were there they were like oh yeah she just fits on and we were like oh when we go to Universal make sure we take those trainers because they've got a bit of a heel on them you know anyway we
Starting point is 00:30:10 go to universal with our favorite rides that pop eyes one where you get absolutely soaked I don't know if I spoke to you about this before but if you're going to go into universal don't their too-sosososo so so.. they. they. they. don't. don't. don't. Un. Don't. Don't. Don't. Don't. Don't. Don't. Don't. Don't. Don't. Don't the they. Don't their. Don't their. Don't their. Don't try. Don't try. Don't their. Don't tha. Don't tha. Don't tha. I's try. I's try. I'll try. try. I'll try. try. I'll try. try. try. try. I'll try. try. try try try try tak flip-flops on the kids not thinking because they're in a buggy all day they don't need their trainers to walk around right anyway we get to like the head we're right so you can hire buggies to put the kids in because there's so much walking Josh on one day. Fucking Nora. But the kids are in buggies right? So we put them in buggies with flip-flots. We get in the park. All of a sudden my youngest can't go on load of rides. Oh because she's not tall enough. Yeah. Oh my god. So what did you do? So they were selling crocks which give you an extra inch. Bought some crocks.
Starting point is 00:31:05 Then, you know, in a soul. Couldn't find a inner cell. But we could find seven pairs of socks. Fucking how. That's amazing. That is incredible. Because she was tall enough in her normal tr- But the flip-front is so small.
Starting point is 00:31:21 So she was safe to go on it. And then, so she had his socks and she was walking around like, almost like, blowing in the wind because she was... And then on that ride on the Hagrid one, one's again, you're on Hagrid's motorbike, or you're in the sidecar, but on the motorbike, but on the motorbike you get thr maybe not maybe next year well we haven't put seven pairs of socks on but I think that she was the right height in a normal shoes
Starting point is 00:31:55 it's just we took the shoe you know anyway but that was I didn't know if that was good parenting or not did you have to buy the seven pairs of socks well we had four did you buy them in increasing sizes? No the the same size the same size the same size the same same same same same same same same same same same the same the buy the seven pairs of socks? Well, we had four. And did you buy them in increasing sizes? Or do they all the same size? No, so it actually worked out quite well because we all had all the girls had spare socks, who was with another family and their two daughters who were a little bit older. So the socks did increase in size, but luckily, so we sort of bought a couple of pairs. What were a feet like by the end of the day? Well, at a hock. Now, I don't have to say, at one point, it looked like she had something,
Starting point is 00:32:28 she looked like she had a condition with her feet that I think someone on the ride would go, they would more likely go that child's got a foot condition. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That means the foot is bigger or swollen. If that'sthey might just let us go straight to the front more so than question the height. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what we were looking out there. But anyway, it was only for one ride anyway, the Hagrid's one, which we did, which is amazing. But I think, Josh, if you went to Disney, you would change your mind.
Starting point is 00:33:01 If you went there and went on the ride, you've changed mine because they are at a different level. The interesting thing is we will never know. You've got to take your kids at some point. No, I haven't, Rob. Do you really not think they'll enjoy it? Rob, different strokes, different folks. Yeah, so you'll never go to Disney University, don't thii. I never say never never say, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, th never, but, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, is, is thi, is to to, is thi, is, is thi, is thi, is, is, is, is thi, is, is thi, is, is, is th. th. th. I'd say that, you know the word unequivocal. I was an unequivocal no.
Starting point is 00:33:40 If they want to go, we definitely go. Each of their own, Josh. But do you know what, Rob? Yeah. I of their own, each of their own Josh. But do you know what, Rob? Yeah. I got a text from my friend and it said, and she follows us both on Instagram. She said, you and Rob could not have gone on two more different holidays.
Starting point is 00:33:56 Yeah. And I thought, that's why the fucking podcast works, my friend. I don't get me wrong. I'd like I'd tholol tho tho tho they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they'll. I don't. I don't. I don't know. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't get me wrong, I'd like Puliya with Lou, but the thought of taking the kids to Poolia. Well, should I do a brief start to the Pulaia? Give us a bit of Pula. Take you through Pula. Actually, I think I could probably do it all quite quickly. We had a Massarea, which is like an old farm that's been converted into a place. It had loads of bedrooms. There was four families who've never been on holiday together before. That is a risk. I'm glad it works, but that is high risk. It was a huge risk.
Starting point is 00:34:30 Four girls of six, who I'm gonna say, I did basically, I didn't speak to my daughter more than twice a day for the whole week. Yeah, that is good. They just couldn't have had less interest in me. Two of the dad's incredible cooks Rob. Lovely. He didn't have to kind of people. They went to, they went to the market in the morning and just bought produce and then cooked a meal from it. Oh, fuck them. One of them. He was like, oh, we've got some fennel here. Oh, I'll you shutt th th that that that that that that that that that that that th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thu. thin thin' thin' thin' the tho' the the the the the the the the thoom! the the the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. tho. thooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. tookennel here should I just make a great tongue. I tell you what you shut that fell up You fucking ass mate give me a pizza in a bottle of red wine and shut the fuck up It's poolier time mate. I don't want you all fennel I've not come here for a 40 year old broke me to cook me on the bar there to knock me up some pasta Yeah, you wouldn't have fit it's a and Lou would be straight on our little WhatsApp.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Fuck you know that kind of spun and got fennel. What we doing? What's going on? The fennel was there, Rob, when we arrived. Oh you already had fennel in the masquerie. It was like, you already had fennel in the masquer. It was like, you fennel's not you have a swimming pool. Before I know it someone else is knocking up a grattan. Yeah we did have a swimming pool Rob. Oh that's good if you got a simple the kids. I'd tell you about the bad day.
Starting point is 00:35:51 Yeah because it was a lovely experience. Sure. It was a lovely experience all in a little difficult at times because everyone was drinking those points when I just took myself away away away away away away away away away away away away away away that that that the the the the the the the the th. th. their th. their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to to to to to thi. I was toook myself away. That was quite nice. I forget you don't drink, yeah. Yeah. And so that was fine though. That was fine. Interesting actually, Rob. That I realize you you take yourself away quite a lot, don't you? You just need to do that. I've really got into that. Yes, I do need a little bit of caveman time of just me on my own. And not even from like another just a throw away from my own wife and children. And children. And children. And to to to to my wife. And to my wife. And to my wife. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. I. I. I'm to to to to to to to to to me. I. I'm to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to that. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm, I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm my own wife and children. Yeah yeah yeah totally. And you know what? It's interesting is it? Because Rose doesn't know whether I do need that time or whether I'm just taking some time away selfishly but I should sound being honest every time. I just like that. If you need a bit of time on your own it's healthy. If you're with with someone and have to be with them all the t. to be to be t. to be to be tip. their. their. their. their. their. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. to be to be thi. thi. I'm just just to be th. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I I I I th. I I I I I I I I I I I th. I I I I I I th. I I I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm th. I'm th. And I'm thin. And thin. And to. And to to to tooooooo. And to to tee. And try. And to. And te. And try. And th. And th. Andto be with them all the time. When people go like, oh, when something bad happened, now my rock, they're right by my son, like, yeah, that's great. But also, you know, you come in this world on your own, you leave on your own.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Get on with it. Bloody hell, Maggie, that's it. Oh, sometimes, I'll be. No, I'm gonna go out for breakfast and Rose will go, oh that'd be nice, shall I come and I'll be out. No? What no? I won't go out for, I'm talking about, I'd go off on holiday. Not on holiday.
Starting point is 00:37:13 No, no, I'm sometimes isn't your podcast 20 minutes on my own in the garden. I'll go upstairs. I think I'm going to go off away for the night actually. No, no, no, no. What I mean is at home, sometimes I'll go, I'm going to nip out and get some breakfast and Rose go, oh, should we go for a walk together and I'll think, oh, no. Is that bad? She knows that?
Starting point is 00:37:37 She looks at me and she goes, ah, no. Yeah, I think that's fine. As long as you're communicating out of each other, that it's not her, it's that you need a bit of your own head space to work. So I'll take you through the bad day. I'll tell you through the bad day. This was the Friday, we were coming about Friday, so it was the thires. The- Yeah. Masarea, whatever you want to call it, swimming pool, etc. Lovely. Fennel. Fennel.
Starting point is 00:38:07 Local produce. The guys that were good at cooking, Rob, sometimes it'd be 11 in the morning, and one of them would just be knocking up a stew. It was like a different world. I don't want to go on holiday and have stew. It's not 1950s Yorkshire. It's 2023, I mean, It's 2023 and I mean Italy get pizza on deliver-oo. So the Thursday we're all going to the beach. It's our last day. I don't like going to the beach.
Starting point is 00:38:36 I'm like driving to the beach. Like driving to the beach parking up carrying all the shit. I don't want me in on the beach. I could easily say to you, your daughters are love of the beach. You've got to go to the beach for them. You know what, they don't. They refused to go. Exactly. Because they're your daughters, mine's mine. That's the way, the apple never falls were had to leave at midday from the villa. There was an evening flight, so kids are already dressed, right, and they'd had breakfast. And then Andy, one of the bloke, well the bloke, the dad in the family went away with, he's absolute liability.
Starting point is 00:39:16 She was gone, I'm hungry. I'm gonna go out's 11 a.m. all tells a kid there's an ice cream left when they're in the only outfit they've got for the plane. Anyway I said so you can have it but you've got you take you take your clothes off like that because I don't want it to get you know it's warm enough so she took a top off and I went you are not getting this ice cream you take to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the tree. tryroes tryroes to toe toe toe toe toe toe toe toe to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the tree I I I I was I'm tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. try. try. try. tree. tree. tree. try. try. t Golan, you're going to the beach. Yeah, so we go to the beach, we drive there. That was the only time me and Rose realized that we got to spend just the two of us because the kids fell asleep in the back.
Starting point is 00:39:58 We weren't sleeping in the same room on holiday. Well, we didn't we did for two two beds where we were in the hotel room, so I had a kid, they had, the, Lou had a kid. Exactly, that's the same, same thing. You know what, they don't want to sleep, though? They don't want to sleep, though. Which one do you get? time have options, neither of them wanted to sleep with me. Both would have seen him on. Absolutely not. No way at all. And then they went, it's because daddy farts.
Starting point is 00:40:26 So I said, okay, if I fart in bed, you get a dollar. Yeah. My eldest straight in the bed. I was about $48 down first week. Um, um. Well, yeah, to give you an idea of how much my kids didn't want to be the one in my room by the last three nights the holiday it's Rose and the two kids and I've got a room to myself. So anyway, we drive to the beach, get there. We've got sun lounge, those beds, it's brilliant,
Starting point is 00:40:56 there's a restaurant, the four girls go off and play with my son. I'm like, this is fucking brilliant book. I'm going to have a brilliant. thi time. Yeah. Then they lose interest in my son. He basically had quite a shit holiday I think compared to my daughter. The problem isn't it, if she's got mates, if he hasn't got mates with the same mates, he's screwed. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So I'm playing with him. I'm like, he won't let my wife my wife out thout th th th, hates her going in body. He doesn't like water or the beach, like you. He doesn't like my wife, doesn't like my wife going in the water. Doesn't like her going in the water. No, so he freaked out when she went in the swimming works. And then he was going to freak out because she wanted to go in the sea. Oh, that's horrible. She's horrible. She's in poolier. She's, she's, she's, she's, and she's, she's, and she's, and she's going. the to. to. the the to have. the the to have. the the the the the the the to have, she's going, to have. to have, the to freak, the the the the the the the the thi, to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. He's going, th. th. th. th. theat, theat, theat, theat theat theat theat theat theat theat theat theat theat theat, thi. the. th rose. Imagine that. What are you? She's in poolier. She's had a fennel sandwich. She's popped to the beach. Wants to have a quick dip because she's art and her son's crying
Starting point is 00:41:50 because she don't like that. What about you in the water? Well, I can't swim either, Rob, can I? So there was a much the bottom of the pool, could you dive into him down and get them and come back out? No, but I could flick them up with my foot and catch them. Why did you never did it at school? I was allergic to chlorine so I can.
Starting point is 00:42:17 Oh yeah, every time I forget every time. You must have to tell me that 10 times. times. times. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. thea. thea. thea. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to to thi. to tho. to thi. thi. to their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I. I. I. I. I can't, I can't, I. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. toda. toda. toge. toge. toge. toge. toge. toge. toge. th. tha. thi. thi't tell me that ten times. Are you still allergic to chlorine then? No, no, you know how your skin's much more reactive when you're a child? Yes, yeah. Yeah. It's on my list of things to do. Anyway, my son's kicking off. And then my wife just wants to go and have lunch, but he won't let, and I'm like, this is a right off. Yeah. th. th. th. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to me me to me to me to be toe. to me to me to me to me to me to me to me me to me me to me me to me to me me to me me to me me me me me me me me me to be to be to be to be to to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. to. toe. to. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. the to me wants to go and have lunch but he won't let, I'm like, this is a right off. I'm just going to take him back on my own. Rose and my daughter can go in with one of the other families on the way home. I'll just take the hit on this one. Yeah, okay. That's nice. Yeah. So I drive back. He is furious to be split up from Rose, who he's obsessed at the moment. 20 minutes minutes th th th th th of th of th of th of th of th of th of th of th of th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thiii, thi, thi, thi, thi. thioleateateateateate. I'm thi. I'm thi. I'm thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm just. Yeah, I's, I's. Yeah, I's, I's. Yeah, I's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. theeateateateateateatea. thea''a'a'a'ea'a'ea'ea. Yeah, the Rose who he's obsessed with the moment. 20 minutes of him crying, straight on the car. I'm like, this is, I've made the worst decision in the world. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:13 Till eventually he falls asleep on the way home. How far's the beach from the house? Hour drive. Oh, fuck it, you've done that on one of the days. Different the days. Different strokes. Ha! You walked 16 miles, mate, with a truck of kids. Yeah, but we've fun in between. I sat and listened to a history podcast for an hour on my own in a car. That was all right. I went backwards with Peter Quill listening to September on Guardians of the Galaxy, Josh.
Starting point is 00:43:43 I don't know who Peter Quill is. I didn't until I got on the ride and then I fist bumped an American man at the end of the ride he went great ride dude I went yeah I didn't know what else to do but I'm fissed up him. Anyway so we get back to the place yeah he's asleep in the car and I'm like this is some time on my own I can't I'm not gonna that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th's th's th's th. thi thi thi the thi the thi the the the thi the the thi they. Starting point is 00:44:30 He's not veggie, but he made it for me and his wife, who are a veggie, and it was very nice. Oh, different strokes. It sounds like a fun time of a joke sat there and poolier on my own eating tofu stew. No, the tofu wasn't in the car. So what was it, so you're hungry in the car, kids asleep? Yeah. There was two cold slices of pizza that I'd taken for him to eat that he hadn't wanted. Yeah. And a bag of crisps and I sat there. Oh, by the way Robbocked, I'm thed thed thed thed thed thed thed th. I was like that. that? No, but it was so I was basically, I was basically? Is it a soft top?
Starting point is 00:45:26 No, but it was so... I was basically lying back driving. It was fucking mad. And the Italians are so bad at driving. They don't give a fuck. There's a guy. I was going at the speed limit and a guy just beeping behind me the whole way. Oh, they fucking go for it on the roads.
Starting point is 00:45:44 It's mad. We had a day, we got there. I just put like a family SUV thing, like a family car in Orlando. I got a Jeep wrangler, like a proper like, you could take the roof off, but I didn't have to put it back on. So I just left it. They stunk a smoke. Someone smoked in it. And then I pathetically emailed. It smells a smoke. It's not not the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thiolk. thooomky. thin. I. thiolk. thooooooooom. I. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I'll just. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's thi. I's thi. I's thi. I's thi. I's thin. I'll just just just just just just just. t. t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t today. t t today. then I pathetically emailed the people go, I think you know that it smells of smoke, but it's not me that did it. I don't want to be charged for the gleaning. I find car rental was quite stressful, don't you? So do I.
Starting point is 00:46:12 Big up, because he tried to be. Big up and the Florida discounted it all. I paid for it. Is that another people that you gave your keys in Cornwall? Yeah, they are. I always get back to them. No, it was Europe car, I think, in Cornwall. Anyway, then I sat in there and had pizza on my own with him. And then, and then we were having an Italian man come around to cook us pizza in our outdoor pizza oven in the evening. Lovely. See, that's a good bit of holiday. I'd be well up for that. So they needed the pizza fire being built four hours before. So then someone texts on the main group and goes, we need to head home soon to build the
Starting point is 00:46:54 pizza fire. So you have to build it for him. Yeah, I thought I've got to say I'll do this. I can't make people come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come come to come early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early to come to come to come to come to come to come to come to'm trying to build a pizza fire. So then Rob, oh that's pressure. My son I left him so he sat inside it was horrific Rob. I had to find the only paper I could find was drawing paper that kids had done drawings on so I had to roll that up. They're memories.
