Starting point is 00:00:00 All right, I'm here with Dunn for the weekend, man. I'm excited about it, man, getting to meet you guys. Let's introduce ourselves all the way around. Logan, right? Yes, sir. What's your last name? I'm Eli. You're Eli.
Starting point is 00:00:16 Okay, Eli. Get up on the mic there, Eli. Sorry. Yeah, I'm Eli. I do vocals for the band. Okay, and introduce yourself. I'm Logan Murphy. I play the drums. Okay.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Isaiah Hipskin. I'm on guitar and backup vocals. All right. I'm Ethan Hill. I'm on the bass. Ethan Hill on the bass. All right, guys. So how long have you guys been playing together now? Collectively with Ethan in the band, I think it's been about, what, like a year and... Something like that. A year and six months, maybe, tops.
Starting point is 00:00:44 Okay, okay, okay. and how did y'all get started did you all go to school together did you meet uh somewhere i went to high school together yeah us three went to high school together and we had a band in high school called drill bit okay that band kind of fell apart through high school and then we put ourselves back together as a cover band originally okay okay i worked with him okay okay being my roommate uh i don't know maybe three months after knowing you yeah i'm gonna do pretty quick because i needed a roommate and then uh you were practicing guitar one day and i was like hey that sounds good like we need to get together and play sometime he's like yeah i'm actually in a band so i was like ah you guys ever need
Starting point is 00:01:21 another guitarist let me know and then it was maybe another three months later they were like hey could you actually pick up the bass yeah it's so hard finding a bass player man yeah man bass players are tougher to find these days so you went from guitar to bass yes sir okay have you enjoyed playing bass i love it yeah man it's that's great that's great well picked up nice too yeah super quick how do you uh how do you define your music we really like to blend elements of like alternative rock like we usually whenever we get asked a question it's it falls under like as like nirvana marcy playgrounds sounding garden those that's one of my personal preferences but like uh it falls in like toady's there's a lot more leaning towards the 90s okay okay so yes that uh alternative grunge scene uh was kind of what influenced you guys a lot that and punk and punk yeah hardcore and like surf punk okay okay like
Starting point is 00:02:14 uh butthole surfers or surfers or we're going like no effects black flag okay yeah a little henry rollins there dead kennedys i got you i got you okay okay so uh you know where are you guys uh performing these days uh what uh what do you got going wherever we can get a show man like so you're working on uh building up your repertoire right now and get some showings get some things set up right yeah we've played uh we played a big chill a couple times in hot springs there's a house place called cell house we actually have a show there uh this saturday uh and we're out now cell house it's it's saturday yeah okay where's that around on instagram you can find it's like some just a house show okay okay very cool we did play a full moon actually not too recently full moon records in conway okay that's awesome get around
Starting point is 00:03:00 central arkansas first okay okay so different have y'all uh reached out yet to vinos yeah we did reach out to vinos it was tough the first time it was tough yeah they had i guess some scheduling issues at the time okay yeah so you didn't get on over there yet no we haven't gotten on over there we're uh we're working on it okay okay okay well i you know i might be able to reach out to some folks here and there that i might know and and see what uh you know i can do and help out a little bit yeah well i mean yeah i just say and i i know a few folks so maybe i can reach out to somebody i know and uh and help you get uh some folks in you know what i mean yeah it'd be a lot of fun uh so you know when you guys come together to write songs how does that process work for you go ahead really falls on the person uh because me personally the way i like to do it is
Starting point is 00:03:53 i like to make a full rendition i like to i like to write the guitar and the bass and the drums and the lyrics from my songs and then bring it together and then we collaborate and we'll change stuff around from the original idea or something that's kind of lead to be um that's just how i do it we've had like other members yeah it's it's really more of a it's really more of a separated process because like generally we'll if he's writing the songs he knows how to play bass drum guitar so he'll have the whole composition or usually me and eli will write a song together and we'll just have the vocals and the guitar and kind of a general idea for what we want to be right i'll write the bass line but
Starting point is 00:04:28 it's been a we've tried to do like all together in the band but we've realized that it's easier to come with an initial idea and kind of build off of that kind of build from that yeah have a fundamental concept and then build off of that so uh you you play all kinds of stuff logan uh you're you play all the instruments can write music read music i assume and all that i can't read no i can't read music at all no but you can play all the instruments that's amazing actually that uh so you had no formal music training you just picked it up and learned it yeah uh no i've never been taught i went to like a drum school for one day and it didn't work out at all.
Starting point is 00:05:05 So I just went home, and I just started hitting the skins, and it just kind of turned out. I appreciate that. No, I mean, that's amazing that without formal training, you're able to assimilate music so quickly. I mean, that's impressive, actually. Thank you. How long have you been playing drums? I've been hitting stuff with sticks since I was about three years years old but I started taking drumming very seriously around like 11. It was whenever I got shown a Phil Collins CD and it just kind of went from there because then I found Queen, I found Rush
Starting point is 00:05:35 and then everyone here they introduced me to Grunge. I found Nirvana and then I really landed on Soundgarden and ever since then I just kind of took to the field and put headphones on and practiced and practiced and practiced. Yeah no I that's that's amazing yeah phil collins i assume in the air tonight was probably the song that appealed to you for drums uh in the air tonight something happened on the way to heaven yeah yeah no he he is a rare drum genius who can also do a lot more than that you know uh is he your favorite drummer of all time? If I had to pick a favorite drummer, oh, man, I have two big answers. Two big answers.
Starting point is 00:06:11 Okay. These are not my main inspiration, but if I had to pick two favorites, it would be Dave Abruzzese of Pearl Jam, formerly. Okay. Jimmy Chamberlain of Smashing Pumpkins. Oh, great drummers. Both great drummers. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:22 What about Neil Peart? You like him? Neil Peart, I love him uh i just would not say i take inspiration from him because he has his own thing and i yeah yeah no i'm just curious if you liked him he was uh i think some people said the best drummer in the world for about five years uh he's got a crazy drum set i'm sure you've seen the videos oh yeah yeah that's that's crazy so uh guitar how did you pick it up man i just uh i thought that playing guitar looked cool when i was a little kid so i wanted my
Starting point is 00:06:51 parents to give me one and then i kind of played it on and off and then when i was like 13 i had an idea for a song in the shower and i had the melody planned out but i didn't really know how to put it to paper so really it was through songwriting that i kind of learned how to play guitar because i was kind of i was learning the covers that i wanted to but the entire time from when i was terrible at guitar to now being kind of okay at it yeah trying songs the whole way through did you um uh did you take any formal training or you just uh no i never my you know my parents didn't really want to pay for guitar lessons i got that yeah so but i mean but I mean, YouTube, like frigging Marty Schwartz is the best guitar teacher. That's the only guy.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Okay. Okay. Okay. Now, so when you first started playing, did you start with electric or acoustic? No, I started with this little like first act discovery acoustic. It's basically like a big ukulele. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:38 I've seen them before. I still have it tucked away in my closet. I play on it sometimes, but it can't stay in tune. All right. Eli vocals. You know, when did you decide that you thought thought hey man i might be a vocalist i mean for our school choir or band was mandatory so i had to pick one um but i stuck with choir throughout high school so sixth to twelfth grade um even to audition choir so i've just kind of
Starting point is 00:07:58 like been focused on vocal audio my whole life i guess yeah it kind of came naturally to me okay okay and so you were guitarist who picks up bass and um you know how long did it take you to transition from guitar to bass i want to say it was pretty smooth but it was a little a learning curve it probably took me uh i don't know let me say like two months before it was like i was confident yeah yeah I don't know. Let me say, like, two months before it was, like, I was confident. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:26 On the mic there. Oh, my bad. Yeah, no, you're good. But, yeah, I'd always played guitar. Played that since, like, sixth grade. I actually had some lessons from my neighbor. Okay. The most formal train.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Yeah. Yeah. So you guys basically are a true garage band. Yeah. No, we literally played in my garage. So, yeah, I mean, you picked up instruments on your own. You really didn't have formal training. You put something together and you garage that shit up. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Well, that's dope, man. That's dope. So what's the plan here, man? Man, short term or long term? Short term, we're just any show that we can get. We actually have a couple songs released on Spotify already, but they're just singles. Right now, we got a couple of songs cooking. The song that we're going to play for you actually is in the studio right now.
Starting point is 00:09:12 But ideally, we're starting to write some songs for our album. Okay, okay. So you're looking to move forward with your band and really do something with it. Yeah, a real piece of art. All right, that's outstanding. That's outstanding. So tell me about the song you're going to play today so i i wrote this song probably about four or five months ago and all the best songs that i've ever written just kind of come to my
Starting point is 00:09:34 head so the tag the chorus for that song just kind of popped in my head and i wrote it around that thematically and man uh the guitar was okay for it at first but logan really put it together with the drums it helps drive the song a lot and i wrote a bass line for ethan he kind of made it his own thing so we're really happy and excited for this song a lot of our friends say it's one of the better ones that we made okay all right so what's the theme of the song what's it about uh it's it kind of describes a guy drunk at a party because that's an experience that i think we've all had at some point he just feels really lonely and the entirety of the song is just kind of about like the decisions
Starting point is 00:10:09 that you're making in life right now and what you know different ways that you want to change because I'll be like out partying with my friends and then see someone has their life together I'm like oh man maybe I should we've all we've all been in that moment I'm sure alright well let's get you guys set up and let's do a song how about that alright I'm going to get our camera moved over here while they get all set up
Starting point is 00:10:40 yeah hold on I'm going to move your mic I'll move you a mic over there hold on. I'm going to move your mic. I'll move your mic over there. Hold on one second. All right. I don't know if you can see me directly. Yes, sir. I don't know. Man, I couldn't run it into my board. Yeah. I was going to say, we're really set up for acoustic more than anything.
Starting point is 00:11:37 We have to project that towards the mic so it gets everything. Sure. And be very careful on this.. . . . . .
Starting point is 00:11:56 . . . . .. I think I'm slow, I can't keep pace A look of worry painted on my face My insides swirl as I look around And that's when my face hit the ground Is that guy dead?
Starting point is 00:12:49 No, he's just lying Do you think he's a friend? Well, that's all I know He's moving I saw him prone When I opened my eyes I grabbed my phone And begged him for a friend He's done the time to Save me from the end I open my eyes, I grab my phone and beg to call my friend.
Starting point is 00:13:05 Sometimes you can save me from the end, but I'll smile and say, Oh, how is white sheets of earth? Is white sheets of earth I know the sweat is pouring down my face Nobody sees me, so I chase that peace A happy feeling to get me through Peace to my side I grabbed my phone and begged it for a friend Sometimes I'm saving to be end
Starting point is 00:14:28 But I'll smile and save it for a while It's white sheets burn White sheets burn Why she burn Why she burn Why she burn hard And now I know I've had too much And now my soul has been in the dust There you go. That is done for the weekend, baby. And man, what a great song that was. That's a groove right there.
