first time in 2026 for the season. We have a post-game show following the Eagles preseason opener. A demoralizing loss, 24 to 7 to the Baltimore Ravens Bow Wolf, Fran Duffy, live from the Xfinity Mobile studio. E.J. Smith is on the scene in Baltimore. He will join us later in the show. We're going to go through the good on offense, the bad on offense, the good on defense, the bad on defense. There was probably a little bit more bad than good tonight, but there's plenty of good to sprinkle around and plenty of important things, especially given the context of what we have seen having watched training camp over the past few weeks, frame. Let's get into right away the big takeaway presented by Xfinity. and listen, if you are an Eagles fan who was excited about this season

and you see your team go out there and play like that and you feel like I'm kind of ready to check out the season is over, I don't blame you. I think that's fine, you know, to each his or her own. But there is also something special about being a sports fan. And there are flashball moments, things that you know that you will remember. forever, especially when you also just have a sneaking suspicion, it's the beginning of something

very, very special. And as we in Philadelphia celebrate LeBron James coming to our city to close out his career, tonight is a night that we can also appreciate the beginning of another career. And this game is moribund, 24-0, nothing to come from it for the Eagles. and then the Cole Payton experience is rained down upon the NFL. In one drive, he accounts for 79 yards. That's 50% of the Eagles yards in the entire game. And that doesn't even include 20 yards on scrambles that were called back from penalties. Three of six for 34 yards passing.

Three scrambles for 45 yards. The lefty. Dynamite. Absolutely letting the league on fire, Fran. Cole Payton is him. Look, I mean, only one of us said that he was definitely on the roster after the first day of practice. And, you know, we got to see the highs. And we saw some lows as well.

It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for the rookie, but it was a rookie in his first NFL action, a guy that only started one year at the FCS level. So a pretty sizable jump in what he saw. tonight versus what he is accustomed to seeing over the course of his football playing career. And yeah, I thought we saw some good things. I'm excited to go back through the film with him tomorrow and just kind of take a look and see exactly what he was seeing. And I think that'll be a really fun going through that in the morning.

But yeah, it's going to be basic vanilla coverages. But what exactly was he asked to do in the structure of the offense and how did he execute? I thought we saw some good things from Cole Payton tonight. Well, and what we have seen over the course of the summer is if we are going to be a little bit more serious is a guy who has been willing to test small windows and that has not always turned out well for him he has thrown some interceptions over the course of can but we knew that the context of that was we had not got to see him use his legs yet and truly he is going against the threes on the ravens it's not a big deal playing vanilla coverages they're up 24 to nothing it's not it's let's not

go crazy but you did see that he's got significant athleticism for a quarter of quarterback. No question. And that's that was absolutely one of his strengths as a prospect coming into the draft was this is a guy that's got NFL size. He's got an NFL arm, but the athleticism is superior to everything else that he's got going for him. Right. So his ability to create his ability on those boots and basically say like, all right, like if it's not there, I can take off. I'm already at full speed. I can take off and run. We're able to see that here in this game, making throws to his left, making throws to his right. Yeah, that athleticism shows up. And, And there were some stuff by design for him in there as well.

You know, some of those replays. You saw him play off the E.J. Jenkins block and the flat in the fourth and three that went for first down. So, yeah, I like what we saw from Cole Payton. Let me ask you this, though. He made Jalen hurt smile. He made Jalen hurt smile. He's doing the bait and switch. He's running.

He's gashing you with his legs. And you think he's going to scramble again. And no, he stops behind the line of scrimmage and pops a touchdown pass to Eric's Okonma, like a pro. So let me ask you this. Because I'm already seeing in the chat, like Cole QB2, Peyton. He's going to be QB3 this season. What do you make of the order in which we saw Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee tonight? So if you did not watch the game, it started with Andy Dalton.

He got the first three series. Yeah, first four series. Yeah. And then McKee played into the second half. I'm not surprised that's the order because the fact that they are competing, they're going to give the veteran the first chance. I would guess that we'll see McKee first of the two next week. Neither one of them, if you did not watch the game, were impressive at all.

Dalton finished three of six for 20 yards. Tanner McKee was six of 10 for 35 yards. I think that Dalton has probably very marginally outplayed McKee over the course. course of the summer, although I think McKee has probably, you know, for the first half of camp, it was like Dalton was had an edge in the second half of camp, McKee may be eking just ahead. Neither of them looked great. I've been a little disappointed in what I've seen from McKee this summer. I don't know.

What did you make of it? You know, I think where I've kind of wrestled with it over the last like week and a half or so is that with Tanner McKee coming into the summer the moment we got to training camp Tanner McKee is going to be more valuable to the Eagles than he is to anybody else you know no one's going to give up a pick that you know we've talked about in the past with McKee you know that was possible in February and March and April but by the time you get to this point in the calendar unless it is Kellan Moore making that trade even like Kevin Petulow making that trade like you know down in Miami like if

someone that's got that intricate institutional knowledge with with McKee and understand like, yeah, that he's going to be able to pick up what we're throwing down really quickly, then yeah, you're able to make that trade. I do think that it will be easier for them to try and flip Dalton. And so with that in mind, I think it probably makes sense to position him as QB2 as often as you can to really kind of up your leverage on the end of that. But again, it's not like I expect that they're going to be able to get anything substantial for Andy Dalton.

I think you're probably just kind of getting what you paid for him. But, yeah, I think. it's going to be interesting to see what they're able to do here in a couple of weeks. But I can't imagine that they're going to be able to get any kind of return for McKee that what we've talked about in the past. And if that's the case, you just keep them. I do. You made the point when you guys did your 53s this week that, you know, I could just go in with four. I don't think that's ideal, but I also wouldn't put it past them either.

I think that that's something that they're not just going to get rid of them just to get rid of them either. Yeah, right now there are enough spots that you don't necessarily. necessarily need, you know, to carry injured guys, to get through, to get through a game and given the practice squad elevations, you could afford to carry a couple luxury spots. We'll talk about who are Bernard and Joshua, we ruin a little bit. You could carry four quarterbacks to start the season. The way those guys played tonight, it doesn't feel like it's worth carrying four quarterbacks, but I also think we can be pretty silly over analyzing a preseason game for Andy Dalton

when the Eagles, the reason they have him around is because he has seen as much as he has seen over the course of an NFL career. And you know that, you know, if worse came to worst and he had to play in a game, he's going to run an operation correctly, right? That's why he's here. So I don't know. I remain very curious to see how Howie Roseman settles that quarterback room. Yeah. No, it's, I mean, it's going to be a big storyline here in the next couple weeks. And obviously, for Eagles fans, and I'm,

sure are in the building as well. They're hoping that the offense looks better in the game up in New England next week. Do you think that Jalen would take umbrage to like Cole Payton getting the first team reps in the joint practices? I think so. I think there would probably be a quarterback competition. There'd be some things written on social media about that, I think. All right, let's close the book on the big takeaway presented by Xfinity.

The night that Cole Payton debuts, we will never forget it. some super chats to get to. Dinkleberg, you knew he was going to drop in right away. He says it's been brought to my attention that people are pocket watching my super chats. He's going to $10 drop here. What people should really be watching is the Gush, making his push to make the roster.

You could call it the Gush push. Goodch, it was around the ball a little bit tonight. A little bit. I feel like I wrote Pully's name down a couple of times more. Yeah, Pully played safety. before Gush did. It was like the second rotation of safeties after Andre Sam

and Michael Carter the second was Pulley and J.T. Gray and Gush was involved in the nickel. And then I think it looked like did get a few safety reps at the end as well. He was around the ball. That's one where we'll have to actually crunch the tape to tell you what we saw.

But you know, Gush flashes. He's got some speed. Mark L. Moyer. I missed football. preseason or not. Football is back, baby. Colpain looked like a good project QB2. McKee made me sad.

I think, and I'll, you know, I'm going to reserve judgment until I watch the film tomorrow. They really couldn't run the ball tonight. And Chipley had a good little one that one stretch. Mark Hill Bell was awesome on that play. He had Lampkin on the right side. We're fantastic on that play. But aside of that,

they did not run the ball really well with consistency. and it was a lot of this, you know, look, it goes back to the, this is what your teams will say when there's lots of three and outs. But there was, I mean, they didn't get it first down until what? It was very late in the game when they got their first, first down of the night. And when you do that, like, it's hard to get into any kind of rhythm and nothing's working. But they could not run the ball. They couldn't stay ahead of the sticks. A lot of penalties as well.

Yeah. So it was, it was tough sledding. So I say that to say, like, when it comes to both Dalton and McKee, like, they weren't necessarily helped by those around the music. But the entire offense as a whole needs to be better. Devin's step with the Superchance says I was honestly more excited for the show

than the preseason game. We're so back, baby. Thank you very much, Devin. We love you. Thank you, Devin. Mark Kellogg's back in with another super chat to say, do you think the lack of production on offense was a product of the preseason or the plays slash play calling? Are we out on Sean Mannion,

France? So Francis was very excited to watch this game. Just like, you know, so it's like on the couch. He's got his notes out. He's got his end. We're sitting there and he's like, it's like third drive. So it's after the third three now. He was like, he looked at me and he goes, too much play action.

I don't like this. He's like, they got to fix. They got to fix this. No, I don't think. I mean, the play calling is going to be vanilla no matter what. but, you know, they're running their basic. This is all the stuff they did the first week at camp. Now you look on that.

It's one of two ways. One, it's extremely basic on both sides. And you would say, like, all right, well, if that's the case, like if you were just running the stuff you did in the beginning of camp, like how come you're not running it better? At that point, it does come down to like a, you know, Jimmy's and Joe's versus the X and O's thing. And they just didn't execute well enough.

You know, and individual plays will point to different players on that. There were, you know, some missed blocks from tight ends. early on in the game. I mean, we're going to get to the bad on offense. We'll get into that. People are, you know, I saw somebody wondering if I'm wearing pants after Cole Payton's debut.

I'm wondering if you're wearing pants after the, the Eagle season starts the very first play from scrimmage is that Eli Stowers hold. And there were, honestly, there were a little gadget patting yourself on the back on that one. There were, there were worse plays than the hold. So,

uh, but like, you know, we'll look at that in the film tomorrow. So, no, it's, yeah, I mean, look, they've, across the board, there's, there's a lot for them to fix here based on what they saw. But again, we're talking about, I mean, there's not, there is not a lot of good from this offensive performance, obviously. But let's let's talk about a couple of the other good things that happened. You mentioned Marka Bell.

Yes. Let's, the offensive line for this game was all backups, no starters played. Yeah. Fred Johnson starts at left tackle. who was it, Lefguard? It was a Jukeu, right? A jukew starts a left guard.

Willie Lampkin started at center. Started at center. Kendall played right guard and Markell Bell played right tackle. And then after the first series, Lampkin and Kendall switch. And Kendall then gets a couple series at center and Lampkin's at right guard.

I thought Markele Bell looked good. Yep. And I thought Willie Lampkin looks good, man. I know. I'm again, like, excited to see what the film looks like with him tomorrow. But I thought it was interesting that they swapped him and Kendall,

you know, from one drive to the next. between guard and center. Ajugu getting the, getting the first team not at left guard. I think that's notable for him, just kind of showing off like, all right, he's got, because we've seen him at left tackle

and left and right tackle, showing off left guard experience. Like that's, that's important. So I think that's, I thought that was notable. That's, I mean, truly that's about it. Like Lampkin and Bell. Kendall didn't play a ton.

I think he only played three series. I'm out quick. I just looking Sheppley had a couple good runs that's really it let's quickly we don't need to talk about like the bad of it

but they I did think it was interesting because that is not how the rotation has worked Stowers getting the first crack at that yeah but then he immediately came off the field but even like I mean he most of his reps did come like early on and it was like EJ Jenkins was in late

and again like that's the you know I was honestly surprised that he was not playing deeper into the game. Yeah, that's what I mean. Is it like that the rotation has not been that way in practice? What did you make of, as we transition a little bit more into the not so great, what did you make of Darius Cooper playing as much as he did in this game? Honestly, it's one of the one of the things I have written down was like Cooper question mark.

Like that deep in the third quarter. He's in their third quarter. While Wicks did you're not, you know, this is not like, yeah, this is not like they were hurting for bodies. No. You've got your tour and your eyes with your Conmas and, you know. I mean, it's a shame that Johnny Wilson couldn't go. Like, man, like, yeah, the guys that are battling for a spot. But again, like, we think that Darius Cooper is closer to Wix based off summer performance.

And, like, he's obviously, I mean, him playing late in the third quarter would point out of the ground, I think played Hollywood Brown series. Elijah Moore played two series, you know, got a little end around deal. Cooper did have a drop on a third minute And I will tell you, this is the one negative thing I have seen from Darius Cooper this summer Is there have been a couple plays where he does struggle to get his head around on time There was a back shoulder throw from Jalen Hertz a few days ago where he didn't get his head around on time And then like sort of flukely got his hand on the ball and then fell back and caught the ball But like it should have been a few more yards than it could have been

I'm sure that's just a small coaching point, but he should, I mean, he should have caught that ball. Yeah, I mean, that's that's one. You could see it on his body language. He's better on endbreakers. He's, I mean, yeah. Yeah. Yes.

You know, and he came back and he had some catches later, but, you know, that one, that third and five drop was tough. Yeah, I'm looking through. And there's not a lot of other, like, we talked about Cole Payton already. They had like, aside from the Col Payton driver at the end of the game, they had like three first downs. Right. Good for Ezra Konma coming up with the, uh, EJ's boy, coming up with the touchdown late. Coming off the ball. Yeah. Come up.

Okay. What, what, what didn't you like on offense or who? Yeah, I mean, there's, there were a couple Stowers blocks that weren't great, that we talked, you know, we alluded to. Oh, you know who I thought was, was not bad? I thought Michael Morris looked pretty good. Okay. I figured I was just going to wait on the old lines. So I just watched without them just showing replays of stuff. I didn't take note. So that's good. Okay, that's good. Where was he at left or right? He was at left guard, I think the whole time.

Okay. But he was there through like two rotations of the line. So he got a good amount of work. Yeah. He had a holding call on one of the culpade and runs, but that's... Honestly, the Markell Bell rep, you know, on that, that nine-yard run from Shipley was probably the best individual rep from an offensive player that I took note of in the night. Yeah. For a bigger body, you know, getting out in the perimeter, you know, torquering the defense of it.

and kind of tilting him inside or outside and just creating that lane for uh for shipley that was big time um rest of it i mean yeah lot too was playing late um i mean got a drop yeah yep kind of say it rej so uh zj tester jumping in we have a tight end two problem mhm if if there johnny munt didn't play tonight johnny month did not play and that's the end But it does point to the fact that if they do have an injury, they do have a problem because they're not going to be able to play the way that I think that this offense wants to be able to play in terms of like heavy personnel, balance between run and pass, you know, play action, like all that. They don't have that ability to play that way at a high level if Goddard or Munt gets hurt. Yeah. And obviously, neither of them play tonight.

Yeah, I'm trying to think if there's anybody else notable who did not play. So obviously, Hertz doesn't play. San Juan doesn't play. Tank played had two carries. Yeah. Wicks didn't play. Yep. No way. Everybody else, all the other receivers at least suited up. Yeah. So my lemon doing some warm-up stuff before the game.

That's terrible. That's a little bit of a step forward. Good sign. Yep. The starting offensive line, all set. So it's interesting that Munt didn't play. No doubt. No month. That's an interesting one. But honestly,

that's probably telling that they're like, yeah, we can't afford to get a high ankle. Yeah, right. Yeah. All right. Let's take our first break on the PHOI Eagles post game show. Let us know in the chat. Who else do you want us to talk about?

We used to get that it was like, we would do fried chicken sandwiches right at the temple. It was like, all right, like two pieces of bread, piece of fried chicken on there. Yeah. Yeah. Great. Tomorrow will be the first time who has been sore from a game.

First. I don't think. Yeah. Probably sore. Let's, well, let's start there. Why not? Sure. There's, there's, you know, there's much more to get to.

But UR, UR, Wiru, what did you think? Weiru popped a little bit from as far as a rusher. There were some down moments against the run. There was one that Ross Tucker pointed out in the broadcast where you got to get buried in the dirt. There were a couple others that were it didn't look great as well. Yeah, they missed his best snap. I know the best snap because they called the unblocked quarterback hit. They thought that was his first nap because it came on the heels of the UR first.

snap, but a few snaps prior to that, which I think actually was his first snap. I think so. He gets, he gets blocked at the point of attack and then, and secondary moves beats that block and then closes and turns the corner super quick and gets a quarterback hit on a play that I believe Sean Wade broke up. Yes. Correct. As the ball was going down.

Yes. Yeah. Notice them on that one. Yeah, there was the athleticism definitely shows with We rule, but then again, like the the stuff at the point of attack is also going to show up. Both of those guys, you know, a play action,

it's going to get them now. Yeah, no question. That showed up time and time again. You know, but I said the point at some point in the last couple weeks with both these guys were, you know, comparing. Great Super chat from Cori Sito.

that I never even thought of that really hits me that was a crazy game of football who they are you broke bow that's good um yeah the so like with when we watched jordan my lot to go through this transition you know his first couple years you know you're 2018 2019 you know even the 2020 summer like there was there were rough moments um when at that position when Jordan Milata has a rough moment, it results in your quarterback getting killed. When these guys have a rough moment, it doesn't always show up in such a big, big way, right?

So you can live with the volatility of it. It's a little bit easier to swallow. So, yeah, there's honestly, it's probably like one of the three most, like, exciting things I'm excited to see tomorrow morning. It's just like, oh, you know, what those guys looked like over the course of the game. Yeah, O'R had had one near tackle on the touchdown run and got one hand on the guy. I mean, that would have been an amazing play. but yeah good good to see it okay let's get to the the defensive starters in this game and a little bit

interesting that of the projected 11 who's going to be expected to play week one jihad Campbell the only guy who played and interesting that marcus epps did not play yes what did you make of that uh i think that they still want their jihad we want more time on task kind of deal uh telling that this is the you know, this is the payoff to him not getting the snaps at the end of last season. Right. Or going to go get his diploma a couple of minutes. That infuriated Vic. You just know.

He's missing practice for what? For giving a piece of paper? No, I think I actually, I thought we saw some good things from Jahat tonight. So double check it tomorrow. You know, I found myself writing his name down a couple times in the first few drives. Because knowing that he was really the only guy out there. Again, I had my extra set of eyes. Helped me out with that one when we were watching.

And it was like, all right, let's watch 11 here. And yeah, I thought he did some good things. So I thought it was a good first impression for Jehad Campbell here in 2026. But I think writing's on the wall, certainly, for Marcus Epps being the starter. Yes, I think that's right. And to be fair, I thought Michael Carter, he doesn't look fully comfortable at safety. It's not his natural position. He's still transitioning.

And I think you see that sometimes. And I think we were supposed to start with the good here. But I think in general, like the supposed second team secondary, the back of the secondary was not great. Yeah. We'll talk about Ringo who had an interesting roller coaster on back-to-back snaps. Mac McWilliams was around the ball a lot, but gave up a lot of catches. Played and played a lot. He was in the game in like the fourth quarter.

Well, yeah, because he was, he was your first team, Nickel. And then he was getting reps on the outside. So he was getting a lot of reps. Good point. But, you know, gave up a lot of catches. Let's talk good. I mean, Jeremiah Trader Jr., for sure. No question.

This is like, you know, this is a this he's too good for this kind of game and by that i mean not just that you know ross ross calls him a starting caliber linebacker i think he's on that edge but the kind of game this is where it's just a lot of vanilla running in between the tackles that that's you know that's catnep for him that's that's what he does well and so he's going to look good in the game like that by the way there was one to not to bring it back to jihad camel what there was one one play where I noticed that were Jahad called it out pre-snap. It pointed like, plays going left, plays going left.

And like play went there and he was able to track it down. Like that was impressive. But to your point, you know, Trotter was was dialed in, you know, all the stuff. He had a really good run stuff at the line of scrimmage. I think it was the second drive. Obviously he had the sack as well where he was able to, to get home, you know, high effort play. So, yeah, I thought we saw some good things for Trotter. He did get moved by the quarterback's eyes on the first touchdown for

Baltimore, but, you know, that's going to happen. But yeah, overall, I thought we saw good things from Trotter. Ty Robinson? Ty Robinson. Arguably, like, the most important, impressive game tonight, I think you could say. Because Trott, the Eagles know who he is. You expect that. Ty Robinson is on the roster bubble.

And I don't think he's on the roster bubble after tonight. I think this was the most needle-moving individual performance. He had a sack second down, which was a really nice move. And he was, that was not his only good rep. He was very active as a pass rusher. Now, I will say as the game went, like he had to play late. And it seemed like he sort of lost his legs a little bit. Yeah.

He came out of the gates firing in the first half. But I think that's probably good enough for a guy who's realistically, if he makes a team, is going to be playing seven snaps a game. Yeah, I think that, because it hasn't just been tonight, too, like even over the last couple of practices that I've been out there. way. He has been arrow up. Yeah.

Over the course of the summer. Yeah. I agree with that. Not the only defense tackle that flash, though. Yeah. No, this is interesting. Because I wrote down, you know, the conversation about UR and do you need to use a roster spot on him?

Because I think it's more likely than not that he would make it through waivers. But if he doesn't, you know, are you going to feel cool? crushed by that and do you need to include him just so you avoid that it's a different kind of player entirely very much completely different kind of player but it is a developmental defensive tackle does zangun wilson change that calculus at all i'll tell you what man like there was only it was a couple of flashes um but the flashes look good and yeah he is so he's so different than anyone else they have from a body type standpoint like this is not a typical vicangio defense of lineman.

He's squatty body, you know, short arms. Like, you know, the guys that we've seen with like Milton and Morrow, like those guys are long, you know, Ty Robinson and Byron Young. They're long. They've got the ability to line up and down the line of scrimmage. They hold up well. Like he is, you know, just a different build. But man, there were a couple of really good reps where he just won the leverage battle,

was able to get off. This is only a second, you know, second and change year of playing the position. I thought he was making some high effort plays. The urgency was there. I like what we saw from Zion Wilson. So there were some good moments for him. David Play, you know, basically coming off the street. I thought he popped.

Yeah, I thought there were a couple of those defensive tackles. Zion was very interesting to me. Yes. Yeah. And I thought he's had a pretty good summer too. Right. So this was fun. AJ Appanessa, you know, he should look good in a game like this,

but I thought he did look good. Yep. The catch that happened in the, you know. Well, you're not going to. You're not going to. That's not like a stock down moment for AJ up and us. No. Yeah.

I mean, Vic is not asking him to do that in a game. Right. That was totally fine. Our boy, Deontale Lawson, he brought a little bit of wood. He sure did. Yeah.

There was a, one moment where he took, there was a, he went back door on the block. And it's like, all right, you make that call. You got to make the play. Play. Made to play. Did a good job. He's, you know, arrives, you know, with some pop on contact. He's got stopping power. Yeah, I'm excited to see Lawson. Smile showed up a little bit tonight. He got a little bit of pub. Vic likes blitzing those guys. We said we saw that early and often. So all those guys were used in that way. But yeah, I thought I thought Lawson showed some good things. I'm excited to see him tomorrow. Let me ask a question.

knowing some of the behind the scenes as you do. Did you think it was interesting that on the Eagles official broadcast, they kind of made a double point early in the broadcast of highlighting Smile Monda. Like a Dave Spadero sideline hit with a focus on Smile Monda. I would call it mildly interesting.

Yeah. One to one to, bookmark. Yeah. Yeah, that's what I would call it. I would call it something worth looking back on. Sometimes it means something and sometimes it doesn't. Yeah. Um, you know, sometimes it's like, hey, like, you know, legitimately like, oh, we want this guy. And sometimes it's like, hey, this guy, this guy's doing, this guy's doing well. It might fit, might look good on your, on,

on your, on your team. Um, maybe give us a call, that kind of thing. But, um, you know, I don't know if that's the case with it with smile or not, but that's what we, we talked about that position this week on the show. And it's like, if you, you would take if you had if you had smile mondan chance campbell and uh tront and dante lawson you know the bottom three linebackers in the roster right now and you put any of them on like 2019 training camp yeah they're like competing for starting roles like those guys are you know all three of them are you know deserving for you know battling for that final spot yeah all right well we're going to take another break we'll be back with more on the other side and pretty

I mean, listen, I'm out in the mountain ball more. I'm feeling good. I mean, obviously not the greatest game, not the best offensive showing, but we'll pack it. We'll unpack it. We'll get into it. All right. Well, you know what? You went to the locker room.

You talked to the players. You talk to Nick Siriani. We're going to give you the ball. You tell us what you heard. All right. So I think a lot of people are going to wonder what the quarterbacks had to say after this one. Obviously, not the cleanest game from either Tanner McKee or Andy Dald Here from Tanner McKee first.

I think he was just the first one to get up to the podium. And I think, honestly, the thing that stood out to me from McKee is that he said that there are plays that they rep a hundred times in practice that they just did not get right today. You know, they were obviously running their base offense. You know, they were going to keep things vanilla. But the very basics of this scheme, they did not master today. There were a lot of mistakes. And, you know, they kind of felt like deja vu hearing about all the third longs and now they

were behind the sticks and that really put them a disadvantageous situation. It felt a lot like last year. I understand some fans' frustrations about that. You know, I think, you know, Tanner got a couple of questions, including one from myself about the lack of being able to get into a rhythm and how the quarterback rotation might lend itself to these guys being a little bit less confident and less comfortable in their situation because they are constantly in and out during practice.

And, you know, obviously in the game, it seemed like there was a little bit of lack of cohesion. Tanner seems very careful not to say anything negative about the rotation. You know, there's a lot of like smirks and like kind of like, uh, how should I say this? So, you know, reading between the lines there, that was my take from Tanner. Andy Dalton. EJ, don't get run over, please. I'm not going to get run over. I'm fine.

I'm fine. They can see me. I'm good. You know, Andy Dalton, similar, you know, he says, you know, with the rotation, it's just how these things go. And, you know, said that he found out a few days of the, you know, he found out a few days of ago that he was going to be the starting quarterback. So, um, noteworthy with that for sure. And then what I thought for Nick was noteworthy is that he said, um, that overall, like they

would have liked a better offensive performance with this again was going to be a vanilla game plan. Um, and he said that, you know, he kind of pushed back on the idea that this might be growing pains for the offense. He said it's going to be a work in progress all year. So, yeah, I don't know. It was, uh, I think the quarterback rotation was something that was front of mind for me. And I didn't get great answers from Tanner McKee and Andy Dalton on it, which I think kind of is telling that neither of those guys really want to just come out and say like, you know, a year ago this time, Tanner McKee looked great in the preseason. You know, what is the difference aside from the big schematic change, obviously?

Now, this is not directly related to the quarterbacks, but just for the people who did not watch the game, Sean Manion called this game from the sideline. And then the broadcast told us that he's actually going to call next week's game from the booth. So he's going to test it out and see what he ends up liking better. but I mean do you do you do you do you give Sean Manion any guff for this offensive performance AJ or can we be grown up here I don't really think that this is like a oh man Sean Mani and Kevin Patullo 2.0 situation I think you can overreact to this game um I thought it was no worthy that Tanner McKee said Sean was quick to get the calls in today you know

they were quick getting to the line because the calls were in fast there weren't instances where he was right up against the 15 second play clock you know the drop dead time for for the and then Andy Dalton said similarly, you know, he's dealt with a lot of play callers. He thought that, you know, that Sean Manion did a good job getting the calls in. He was clear and confident with his communication. So I don't think this is really a referendum on Sean Mannion. You know, I think it really kind of is somewhat to be expected. Obviously, you would have liked to see them look a little bit better running their base stuff.

But, you know, I think that these were, you know, some of the growing pains you're going to expect from a new scheme. Tanner had that one run check, which worked out well. one small positive on his night but not great all right what else did you hear e jay we heard from uar bernard you know and yeah he's a low talker so we you know we don't have like huge quotes you know verbose quotes from him but you know he talked about what this meant for him you know like how proud he was of himself for getting to this point you know the significance of that for him and talked about how Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter were so excited for him and there was a lot of energy on the sideline. I thought there was a cool moment actually right behind me pregame where you got to see Ura Bernard and Clint Hart working together.

Ura Bernard was one of the last players on the field, one of the last non-specialist pregame, and they were just working on past rush moves the whole time. And, you know, we don't usually get to see that, so I thought that was cool. But yeah, you just said, like, you know, the significance of the moment really stood out for him. And you could tell, kind of there was a little, like, starstruck afterward, for sure. But again, I think it was like a feeling of pride for the journey that's led him to this point. It's his first post-game process. Availability.

Yeah. Has that been a bit throughout the show? Like everything, it's his first. This is anything good by the chat. The chat has done a good job with this. First time being talked about that. Post-game show. Yeah.

It's a night of first for Warren. Bernard. I'm assuming you heard from Nick Siriani. I can't imagine that he was the happiest of campers tonight. No, I mean, yeah, I mean, I'm trying to think, like, of the Nick Seriani press conferences I've attended, this was one of the shorter and surlier ones. Yeah, his reaction about, about, um, quarterback, like, it was about, like, you know, its assessment of the quarterback play, and he kind of took a beat.

He was like, oh, like, here we go again. So, uh, yeah, not the most, uh, I mean, not the most insightful version of Nick, but, yeah, I think it was, it's fair to say it was a little surly. Is he getting grilled? Really? No, I don't think he got grilled. I think he was, he didn't like the question. I don't think you like the question about the quarterback play.

He said, you know, it's, it's everybody out there. You know, it's not specifically the quarterback play. Didn't have a lot to say about O'R. Bernard or Josh Weir. Did say that Josh Weiru looked good on the screen, the screen play. He said he, you know, looked fast working on that play. And I mean, I thought Joshua Eru looked great in general. I'm disappointed I didn't get to hear from him. But, you know, I think I was in.

on Nick Seriani's press conference when he was speaking. So, yeah, I think, yeah, Nick didn't have a lot of, a lot, a lot of compliments to hand out today, I would say. So the reporters or the players. Now, you do, there's one player you haven't mentioned yet. And, you know, you've got, you've got a child on the way coming this fall. And I, I just wonder if one day you're going to be telling little weiru Smith about the day, the night that you were there when Cole Payton began

one of the greatest careers of all time for the Philadelphia Eagles. What did you make of seeing the Colpaden experience in person? What a joy. I mean, he looked good. I think he looks good. I think he benefits from the live situation where you see his pocket. escapeability but yeah I mean you look at the stats it's it was a low bar when he came in I'll give him that I mean I just like the rambles that got taken away from penalties come on I didn't

dislike the Colpaden experience I'm a little surprised that you framed it like this you would vote the baby Smith he's surprised that he framed it like this is you on the team he's on the team right pretty solid Gold been on the team. You do wonder, given the Tanner McKee performance, we've been talking about, you know, are the Eagles more likely to get the compensation that they value Dalton at than the McKee thing?

It's hard to imagine a team giving that what the Eagles value McKee at with Joe Fagnano, just going ham. 22 of 28 for 22.24. Fagnano, for the record. Whoa. I mean, Tanner McKee, it's a limited sample size, you know, even Nick mentioned this in his post-K compressor where it's like he's had, he's got two starts under his belt.

And, you know, Andy Dalton, by comparison, as like 160 plus. So, you know, I love the, like, show going on behind me right now. It's a very, like, good window into what a stadium is like after a game. Keeping the stadium down, like the entire stadium is going to be. I know. You know, it's a newly renovated stadium. Yeah, I think it is more likely they'll get what they would like to get for Dalton. You know, I don't think that these games are going to affect it very much.

But to that point, like, I think that this game, I don't think either of them have a meaningful, I don't think either of them will have a meaningful effect on their trade value. But I think you can make an argument that a game like this for Andy Dalton doesn't change anything. But for, for Tanner McKee, like, it is a little bit more. It's a bigger, you know, it's a bigger data point, I guess is the best way to phrase. it is like the sample size is a lot smaller. You know, we've seen Tanner McKee play well in the regular season. But, you know, I thought it was an interesting question by a predecessor on the show,

as somebody that we all know and love, like, like Tanner McKee a year ago, Tanner McKee a year ago was, you know, talked about a lot differently. He's like this ascending every time he's on the field, you know, you can see the development. And this has kind of been the first bump for him. So, you know, or at least I guess you could probably say last year as well. But this has been, you know, a more turbulent summer than we're. used to seeing from him. Usually this time of the year, but this time of year we're talking about

how exciting a player he is. So, you know, it is a departure. I think that it's fair to say it might affect his trade value, maybe a little bit, just a little bit. Well, EJ, you are not just a reporter going and telling us what's going on in the locker room. You're also a ball-knower and you had eyes on this game

better than we did on the broadcast. Anything else jump out to you from a press box vantage point that you think is worth passing along? The juxtaposition of Markell Bell and Willie Lamkin. Did you guys already talk about this? We talked about that they both looked pretty good,

but not just the full judgment position. I really enjoyed them together. And I kind of think it works, you know, because like Markell Bell is this they got a twins thing going on. Yeah, it's very much so. Yeah. Like Markle Bell is this force, you think at the great seal out block on the Will Shipley outside run. And then you just see Willie Lamkin get up to the second level. And they feel almost like complimentary forces there in a way.

It is fun. Like you can just high, low guys. Like, I right you only get the natural leverage and then you also get like you know although that's I mean you're going to call for a penalty If you don't know if you're going to get that double team you don't know what like truly like what are you what body type there are you doing are you trying to yeah yeah no it's fun I wanted to talk to markell bell I didn't get a chance to I want to ask him about his stance you know you from all the way up there well I kind of be honest he did he walked by me on the way out I was walking in he is so tall man like we've seen him Like, you know, the Eagles have tons of massive offensive linemen, but it was funny because Jordan Davis was next to him. Like, you know, it was Markle Bell walking out and then Jordan Davis after. And like, I was taken aback by how big Markle Bell is. I mean, it was my first time walking by the guy, he's the tallest guy in the O-line ring, which is no small feat. And as a result, like, I don't know if you notice.

I don't know if you saw. Yeah, exactly. I don't know if you saw his stance. He doesn't get into a three-point stance. even when the rest of the O line is in a three-point stance, he's still in the two-point stance. And it seemed like his splits were like really wide at times, at least from my vantage point in the press box.

So I want to talk to him about like the leeway that he might be getting from the coaching staff on being able to just like, listen, you're 6-9, your 350 pounds. You don't need to get your hand in the dirt. Like, you know, that probably is an unfair way for you to start a play. So I want to hear from him on that, but I did notice that.

But I thought Markell Bell looked really good. in the early going of this game. I'm sure it wasn't perfect. I'm sure that as Frank goes through the All-22, we'll be able to show us a more complete picture. But just watching for my seat, I thought he looked really encouraging in his first action. I thought it was good to see him at right tackle,

you know, because of the fact that, you know, we have this question as to whether or not he is going to be the air, apparent or really the successor for Lane Johnson. So I thought he looked good. I thought Willie Lampkin looked good. You know, I didn't think Jake Majors looked particularly good. Obviously had some low moments in the game. but, you know, I think that that just goes to show you how remarkable it is

that Willie Lampkin's able to hold up at that size because, you know, it's usually you get a Jake Majors experience on the player that side. It is so funny to imagine somebody tuning into this show who didn't get to watch the game and just hear, as if, you know, as if he got pants or something like that. I mean, he had a couple bad plays. Jake Majors, I mean, obviously had some pretty low moments in this game.

Obviously. We all saw it. Did you guys talk about Deontay Lawson yet? We did a little bit, yeah. I thought he looked really good. You know, I had, when I did my 53 men roster, which is on all p.H.O.I.com. You got to be a diehard, though.

You got to be a die hard to read it. I had Joshua Weiru and Deontay Lawson on my 53. You know, we obviously discussed that on Friday show as well. I felt good about both of those decisions watching those guys today. You know, I think Weiru, I mean, I texted you guys in the middle of the game, maybe it was knee jerk, but I feel pretty good about it. Like, I think he's on the team. I really do, because I think what he showed today is enough of a flash where some team's going to be intrigued by him.

I don't, maybe I'll be wrong. I don't think the Eagles are going to want to expose him to waivers. Lawson, I think he's going to have to keep this momentum going to really make a strong case to make the 53. It's a crowded room, but I thought he looked really promising today. You know, I think the physical traits really jump out even, you know, just watching live. So it'll be fun to see what he looked like in the All-22 as well. I know he was pretty productive as far as tackling goes. So, yeah, I thought he looked really good.

I'm like, oh, man, that's where Jaylon would have probably been tonight. Oh, that's so funny. You should have told Jaylin. It wasn't for the preseason game.

I mean, we didn't get a chance to talk to him. I'll tell him. My dad was at a Frankie Beverly tribute concert. Second thing, you guys don't care about this, but maybe somebody in the chat will appreciate it. I like saved an album. You guys know, like, sometimes there'll be new music out, and you'll be like, I'm going to listen to this when I'm in the car for a long time.

So I saved the new Phoebe Bridgers album. You guys don't even know who Phoebe Bridgers is, do you? I know the name. Okay. She's great. She's like, you know, she's my type of music. She's like a sad girl music, as my wife would call it. I saved the album.

I was excited to listen on the drive down here. You know, maybe get a good crying. You never know. And I was a little disappointed by the album. So maybe somebody out there can tell me if they like the Phoebe Bridgers album or not. But yeah, I was a little bit underwhelmed. There was a little too, like, indie, you know, out there. It wasn't as like just, it didn't feel as, like, foundational to what Phoebe Bridgers is to me.

Yeah. All right, E.J. Hold on, poor one, since you're talking dogs, Big T's got a stomach ache. So everybody needs to say a prayer for Big Tee. He woke me up at 2 a.m. last night, freaking out because he needed to go outside originally. So, yeah, we need to hope. Maybe like the, I want to say it was like the sixth coming out of Ohio State. He got the Hank Basket treatment where he got traded during his first training camp from Baltimore to New England where he played for, I believe, played for Mike Pelagrino. And then Pelagino obviously, I shouldn't say obviously, but likely, you know, not quite as as obvious as major as low lights tonight. Right. The cohab matrix played in his favor, you know, played in the UFL and had some good moments

and obviously earned a roster spot here for the nine. and yeah, I would say Mac McWilliams has the leg up on him right now. Kieran then doubles down with a very generous donation. Thank you, Kieran. Oh, very nice. Who would be better? Zion Wilson as a basketball player or Zion Williamson as a football player? To have, I mean, LeBrah James, Michael Jordan, and Zion Williamson.

Cole Payton and Cole Payton. Probably Zion Wilson. I think you got to go Zion. Tom, Williamson, as a football player, would be my guess. I think you put him a tight end, probably. Yeah, I'd say so. Yeah, I think you could get it done. I mean, he's going to play three games a year because he's made of, you know, sticks.

But, I mean, he fit right in with a couple of tight ends they've got. We have not talked yet, Fran, about the Keely Ringo part of this game. So, you know, Keely gives up a couple catches as he does, then gets handy and gets called for pass interference on a, to play when he's otherwise in good position. But then comes back in the next play and makes a very nifty interception in the back of the end zone

when Fagnano is thrown across the field. That was nice to see. Mostly, I honestly, I don't think that moves the needle very much. I don't think Vic is ever going to trust him on defense. I just felt, I just felt happy for him. It's been so many, like,

little dense against the armor for Healy since he got an opportunity to win a starting job last summer. You know, he hasn't had a lot of things to celebrate other than being a really, really good gunner and truly, like, arguably going to make the team because of that. turkeys on him making the team of the three of us. I very much think he's in play to make it. And I do think the special teams is part of it. but it's a big part of it. But yeah, it was a great play. What I thought of, though, is with Keeley, one of the big things, I remember his first year, and it popped in the second year as well. There were a handful of plays every summer where he would have a break on the ball

from off coverage, from depth. And it was just like, dude, like trust it, go, like undercut it and make the play. And every time it would be like, ah, he just second-guessed it. And he was a step late and couldn't get there. the guy made the catch. Cool to say, and this is a little different just because he's in pursuit from the backside, scramble drill kind of situation.
