PHLY Philadelphia Eagles Podcast - Are Vic Fangio, Eagles defense primed to lead Super Bowl run?

Episode Date: December 16, 2025

On Sunday, Vic Fangio and the Philadelphia Eagles defense gave up just 75 yards to the Las Vegas Raiders. That was the fewest amount of yards the Eagles have surrendered in a game since 1955. Fangio...s Eagles defense also pitched the team’s first shutout since 2018, which in part of a string of 20 straight possessions without a touchdown. Young up-and-comer Brandon Graham had two sacks, while Zack Baun had an interception against Kenny Pickett. Is this defense capable of leading the Eagles on a Super Bowl run? Jamie Lynch and Rich Hofmann discuss on today’s PHLY Eagles Show. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, everybody, and welcome to the P. H.L.Y. Eagle Show presented by Bet365 and Ashley Furniture. My name is Rich Hoffman. I am here with Jamie Lynch, not on our normal day, but it's not a normal week, James. It's not a normal week, Rich. A little Saturday prime time action ahead. What do you think about that? What do you think about a Saturday? I don't hate it. Well, selfishly, I get a Sunday at home to watch more football. So I don't miss as much of the product. And shout out to everybody in the chat. I want to get a little thumbs up for us here. There was a little favor. Hit that thumbs up button. Selfishly, I don't mind it because as a weekend worker, I'd rather work. I think I'd rather get it out of the way Saturday than have it
Starting point is 00:00:59 hanging over me on Sunday. Is that fair? Yeah, I feel like over the years the Eagles have played at Washington in one of these late season Saturday games, a bunch. Like, I remember we're going back 20 years ago. I felt like it happened a couple times. The game that I actually remember, you remember 2014, RG3 was not as good that year, and the Eagles had Mark Sanchez as their quarterback, and that was the game that
Starting point is 00:01:24 was the game that actually prevented them from making the playoffs that year. It was a pretty good team overall, but just didn't make the play. So hopefully this week is a little bit better. But yeah, it's the standalone game, the early game on Saturday. Bad job by the NFL, bad job by Roger Goodell, putting the Washington commanders, not just on Saturday, Jamie. But they are a standalone game on Christmas. Oh, as well. If you had just simply listened to Bo and E.J. and Fran, not that long ago before the season, they were down on the commanders.
Starting point is 00:01:58 They predicted this. So, Raj, you got to watch the P.H.O.I. Eagles show. You would have known that the commanders were due for a tank job this year. I mean, I think every, it wasn't just those guys. We're not giving them. I think everybody knew mumble. Everybody looked at that. Olders team. Old. We're insanely, running insanely hot on Fort down last year. There were a lot of indicators that said, hey, this team is not going to be the goods this year. Also, one, one other thing, Jamie, that I think is the Eagles are going to benefit from this. but I feel like division games,
Starting point is 00:02:31 there should be one early in the season and one late. So when you said that this is, you know, the two games stretch with Washington, it is weird because back eight, nine years ago when I was on Sunday night football, the end of the season was always like two Cowboys games in like a three or four week stretch. Then more recently it was always two Giants games
Starting point is 00:02:51 at the end of the season in a three or four week stretch. And now it seems to be going to the commander's way. And I agree with you. It's terrible. Like, space them out. Like, give me NFC East games like in the first couple weeks. Stop, stop doing this. I don't like it.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Well, and I said it, the Eagles are going to benefit this time from the, from the late season scheduling. Hey, like, look, about the Eagles got a break. You know, we complain about all the times they don't get a break. Yeah. But they definitely are getting a break. And that is because played Jaden Daniels three times last year. Going to play him zero times this year because the commanders, they made the decision that with his injury, It wasn't worth it to get him back.
Starting point is 00:03:30 I'm sure there was an element of why are we playing this guy? Like our season is over. And so the Eagles are going to face old friend, Marcus Marriota on Saturday. Another quarterback revenge. People were saying it was going to be Kenny Pickett Week last week, Rich. Now it's Marcus Mariotta Week. A lot of ghosts of backup quarterbacks past, yeah. Do the deal.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Yeah. Remember that? Oh. I talked about this today in the news. letter where the spring of 2015 where people talk radio was trying to will marcus mariotta i was guilty i think i wanted mariotta yeah because i was betting oregon a ton that year uh and the years prior because the over bet was so much fun with the oregon ducks so i watched a lot of mariotta and like i was kind of all in yeah sure and i mean i think we could also talk about
Starting point is 00:04:25 hey, he was the Eagles backup quarterback for a year, too. He wasn't very, Jalen Hertz played in every game that year, if I remember correctly. It was one of those where, you know, Minchu got a bunch of snaps before, and then Kenny Pickett gets snaps last year.
Starting point is 00:04:38 But Marcus Marriota, what was the backup here for a year? Pretty good backup. I'm sure. It's fine. I'm expecting Washington to be as, as banged up and as bad as they're going to be. And I think this is a game where the Eagles,
Starting point is 00:04:51 hopefully they continue to get right. It's not just a get right game, Jamie. It's hopefully a get right. month for the eagles i i do expect a a much tougher game than they played on sat on sunday against the raiders yeah i would think it's a division game so right you know rivalry right there off the bat is going to give you a little more juice than the whatever the raiders had shout out producer even in the chat saying go ducks uh and charles was saying it's a shame we didn't have chipp kelly last week and marius mariotta this week would have been a real would have been
Starting point is 00:05:18 quite a man unbelievable man chip kelly by the way man that was a mercy firing getting away from that if you're him like here's the thing i'm don't get about coaches. You know he's going to take another job somewhere to like prove himself. I guess he loves the game that much. But if I had the amount of money that Chip Kelly had and I've kind of been like disgraced in the NFL, like, don't you just go like pursue another passion project and go like travel the world and we're not built that way. I know. These guys. Go to Japan and get some great sushi. You know what I mean? Like, Chip Kelly loves calling plays. And in Chip Kelly's case, he loves calling in the Alps. He loves calling the four plays that
Starting point is 00:05:51 he has in his playbook. I mean, like what is wrong with these guys? They're sickos. Yeah. And Brian Johnson coming back. Yeah. Again, it's so funny, man. The Eagles, because they recycle through so many players and so many coaches, really, there's a storyline every week if you want to get rid up.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Well, I think it's a credit to what a good organization they are that, you know, people view it as a good place to, like, land and rehab their image and maybe their abilities for a year or two. So you do get all of a sudden now a lot of these types of guys. And Marcus Marriottos, like, yeah, the Eagles are a good place to be. I'll get another deal after I,
Starting point is 00:06:25 leave there because even if I don't play, I'll be considered, you know, part of a good organization. Yeah. And so Eagles playing Washington this week. What a dump of a stadium. Yeah, really bad. It's bad in the stadium. It's also for the big Jays. It's bad in the press box, too.
Starting point is 00:06:41 The press box. Oh, it's terrible. Bad Wi-Fi. It's like leaking sometimes some water from the ceiling too. Yeah, well, it does sound like our office a little bit, too. So in some ways, I feel pretty comfortable with that. but Washington just nightmare season Jaden Daniels gets heard very predictable
Starting point is 00:06:58 tough year for tailgate Ted he did take the hard rock for a little while but hopefully hopefully this is a game where the Eagles again they look as bad as the Raiders were last week like the other teams they played 14 games on their schedule before them as well and when we talk about where the Eagles rank and EPA and success rate and all those things
Starting point is 00:07:18 it's like other teams played the Raiders too and they had the chance to put it on them like that So it was good for the Eagles to just take care of business. We're not going to go too crazy about that game. But I was relatively encouraged with both a stress-free win, but also the fact, man, they played 42 snaps the other day on defense. That's crazy. And we're going to get into the defense in a little bit here.
Starting point is 00:07:39 But I thought this defense, which has been very good, but has played a ton of snaps in part because of there was a couple game stretch where they really struggled to stop the run. But also because this offense goes three and out faster than any offense in the league for them to get off their feet and even like Tanner McKee to have that 11-minute drive at the end of the game and save these guys' legs, I thought that was really important. And hopefully that bodes well for both Washington, but also Buffalo the week after. Yeah, Buffalo is going to be a real interesting game in two weeks. I had the pleasure of sitting next to Bowulf when Tanner McKee made a connection with Darius Cooper.
Starting point is 00:08:15 And I thought he was going to go fully nude. Yeah. Well, it was a big day for him. Big deal for Darius Cooper. So the two biggest fans of Darius Cooper are Bo Wolf and my mother. Oh, really? You know why? So a couple weeks ago, for Veterans Day, the Eagles sent a few players to the VA to, you know,
Starting point is 00:08:37 meet with veterans and very nice gesture. I believe it was the day after the Monday night football game against the Packers as well. And so the three players that the Eagles sent were Nicopi Dean, Orwo Jomo, and Darius Cooper. Wow. So she automatically becomes their biggest fans because they're great and they gave jerseys to all the vets. Oh, that's very cool. So, yeah, she was excited not only when the Tanner McKee pass at the end, but also when Darius Cooper drew a pass interference when the game.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Yes. A little earlier. And I don't want to say it was in doubt, but it was closer. It was not yet decided at that point as well. So, yeah, good day for everybody. Yeah. And being the football guy I am, I watched Darius Cooper's alma mater, take. on the Villanova Wildcats last Saturday.
Starting point is 00:09:21 I was re-s. Harold and State. Yeah, I was re-seasoning my cast iron pans slash cleaning the kitchen. And it was on in the kitchen. I was like, yeah, I'll watch a little Villanova. It's Harleauvin' state. Villanova with the upset.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Now they're hosting a semi-final game out in Villanova this Saturday. Lancaster Avenue, big, big time, a football hotbed. Yeah, I would have loved to have seen Darius Cooper ripping up the Villanova there. I'm sure he probably would. I'm sure he would. I'm sure he would have.
Starting point is 00:09:44 I'm sure he would have went for 200 yards. Okay, Jim. So let's let's go back. to that Raiders game because I think a lot of the focus has been on the offense and as Julia puts up the game plan and we talked about Marcus Marriota, we also
Starting point is 00:09:58 were going to talk about a historic defensive performance. Get into Vic Fangio and then talk about where this defense could fit maybe taking the Eagles down the line a little bit. It's mostly going to be a defense show is what I'm mentioning here, James because I feel like the focus and I think this is fair has mostly
Starting point is 00:10:15 been on the offense. Do they have an identity? Sure. What is Jalen Hertz going to look like after he's had a pretty rough month stretch. I think it's fair to say. Are they going to be able to run the ball? Should they be under center more? All of those things, we focus on that. And then I think the defense, it gets pushed to the side a little bit, where I don't know
Starting point is 00:10:33 if it's because, hey, they have not been completely as dominant as last year because they did have a rough stretch of a couple games. Even in their good games, the offense has been so bad that I feel like the concern level has warranted that we pay attention to them. But I think we need to give the defense their flowers today because they are excellent, yet again, I think heading into the season, the question was,
Starting point is 00:10:57 can you get excellent defensive performance from year to year? Because that can be volatile. It seemed like they had the players to be able to do it, did lose a few guys, but they also had the coach to be able to do it. And look, I understand they just played the Raiders, 75 yards in a game is like insane.
Starting point is 00:11:14 That's pretty crazy. So Cooper DeGine said to talk on the sideline during the game was not the shutout. It was keeping them under 100 yards, which is like crazy. And I think it was 43 yards on the opening drive from the Raiders, 37 after that or something like that. So it was a very Vic Fangio game because Vic one adjustment and he shut them down.
Starting point is 00:11:39 I almost think he lets the other team play well on the first drive. So do I. Because he's like, all right, I just got to be able to see it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. and then I'm going to completely turn off the faucet. Now, in the Raiders case, their good drive was a 43-yard drive. It ended with a turnover on downs, right?
Starting point is 00:11:55 The Chargers, the week before, it was like one of the easiest touchdown drives that you've ever seen. I think for normal teams, sometimes Vic, they do give up a touchdown. But yeah, after that first drive, after that second drive, completely turns off the faucet.
Starting point is 00:12:08 And in this game, yeah, 43 yards on that first drive. Jamie, I can do the math. That's 32 yards the rest of the game. That's crazy. Now, I know the Raiders suck, but they are professionals. They are in the NFL. There are some people that are competent.
Starting point is 00:12:23 Fran said the tape looked even worse than we remembered it on Sunday. And thank God, because it was such a bad game that it was the second fastest in NFL history. I really appreciated that. That was unbelievable. Not only selfishly, just, but for all of us to because there were some good games to, like, get to. It was nice of them to end that quick because we did the post game show, got out of here. and I was like, man, this feels really quick.
Starting point is 00:12:47 I got home, took out the trash, salted the walkways, did a light shovel of the deck, and then I sat down with a glass of wine, and there was, I think, four minutes in the third quarter of the afternoon games. I rarely ever catch the end of the afternoon games when I get home after a post game.
Starting point is 00:13:07 Sort of like sit down and actually watch a quarter and a half of the second half of the afternoon games was wild. But to the defense, And it's unbelievable. I don't care that it's the Raiders. To hold a team to under 100 yards is mind-blowing. First time since 1995 that the event did that. That was Concrete Charlie and Company.
Starting point is 00:13:33 Of course. I remember that game well. Yeah, at Connie Mack Stadium against the Chicago Cardinals. You know it would be a fun thing one time? Get Fran Duffy to like break down like an old historic like concrete Charlie game. get a little film grinder now they didn't have the all 22 but they might have had two cameras at the time look as somebody who makes fun of the the NBA players of that era pretty consistently the Bob Coosie played against plumbers and firemen uh type of
Starting point is 00:14:04 type of analysis yeah it would be funny for fran they're just yeah this guy just i mean this guy was he drunk like they just like miss a block on that's that cigarette on the sideline come on man you got to get a seal on the power power sweep but anyway the eagles against the chicago cardinals that day which i did not know was a franchise bidwills were still owning them back then are they really yeah i got uh down a little bit of a rabbit hole the other night and nice yeah pat pat summer all played for the team so what started the rabbit hole the chicago cardinals well yeah i mean the fact that the eagles have uh okay so you saw that in nineteen fifty five and i was like What were they cooking up in Chicago in 1955?
Starting point is 00:14:43 The answer was pretty, pretty normal team. I guess they just had a bad day in December. How deep of a rabbit hole are we talking over 25 minutes of Wikipedia diving here? Yeah. Yeah, I think that's true. Close to an hour? No, I think about a half hour.
Starting point is 00:14:56 A little bit of YouTube, a little bit of Wikipedia. Did you pull up any footage from these games? Like the old school games? Yeah. I'm always fascinated by people's rabbit holes because, you know, you end up like, I love Wikipedia.
Starting point is 00:15:08 I donate to it. Oh, do you? Yeah. Yeah, I help give them in business. I love Wikipedia. I'm a sucker when they ask me for donations. You know, I love Wikipedia, too, and you're shaming me now. No shame intended.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Because they always ask at the top, like, hey, we need some funds to keep this baby going. We know you use it all the time. It's your favorite site. Maybe I'll change my... I mean, I do like two, three bucks. I'm not the, you know, Daddy Warbuck's coming in here with the keeping them afloat. I'm like, yeah, I can spare five. bucks wikipedia i got you i use you all the time that's a fun like i'm the now i got the vaude juices
Starting point is 00:15:47 flowing here some kind of wikipedia game like a rabbit hole vod series we could do anyway i'm just thinking out loud i like that yeah i i love a rabbit hole i i always am fascinated by people uh and how they that rabbit hole and like anthony gargano he'll end up on a youtube rabbit hole for like three hours of like old dunk contests or like home run derbies and like it's just funny to see how people operate so in the chat ac says that from the raiders perspective it was their worst offensive game since their inaugural season i'll just i'll believe that because i mean it's got to be true it sounds true 75 yards i will say though i believe ac the eagles have had a lot of really good defenses over the years like sure the fact that the jim johnson defenses or the fact that especially
Starting point is 00:16:33 the buddy ryan defenses just didn't find some terrible offense to play against unbelievable isn't and hold them to that number, but it just goes to show. I mean, it was crazy. And to your point about that game ending fast, it was, so I do the instant reactions after it's over
Starting point is 00:16:48 and I have you guys send them to me. I was like, man, I thought I start usually in the middle of the third quarter. I was rushing to get these done because there was only like 40 minutes from the middle of the third quarter to the end of the game.
Starting point is 00:17:00 The Eagles just kept moving the chains, moving the chains. Tanner McKee, first down. So that was awesome. And yeah, so you did all of your chores. I watched basically the entire fourth quarter of Buck's Patriots while we also had the Eagles show on.
Starting point is 00:17:14 I had the mute and also also Buck's Patriots as well. Or sorry, not but Bill's Patriots. Yeah, which was a wild game because I thought the bills were dead in the water and then they end up coming back. Yeah. So, yeah, that game was fast. I love it. Again, I feel like I always remember the games that maybe like during the Chip Kelly era, it's like, oh my God, is this game going to end at 450? Like what's going on right now?
Starting point is 00:17:38 Like, this is the slowest game ever. So to have one that just just zoomed through was, was excellent. But again, I think more than anything, defense getting off its feet, dominating, but not having to play a bunch of snaps. That's a huge deal. Yeah. And if the Eagles are going to win and there's still a scenario where they could win it all and repeat again, it has to be on the back of the defense.
Starting point is 00:17:58 We all know what the offense is. At times, they can look competent. They rarely string together four successful quarters in a row. You might get two, sometimes three out of them. But if this team's going to do anything and make noise, it's going to be on the backs of Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeGine and Kobe Dean and Zach Bond. Just name them all.
Starting point is 00:18:18 Like go down to Marcus Epps. Name them all. Marcus Epps. I mean. We're going to talk about it. I think he deserves some flowers because he looked confident. I have not heard his name called. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:27 For the most part, he had a couple plays against the Chargers. But you don't want to hear his name call. Yeah. Okay. That is a good segue. We are going to get into Marcus Epps. and we're going to get into another guy that Jamie mentioned like five or six players. We might get into
Starting point is 00:18:41 another player on that defense who played well on Sunday that he did not mention, and we will do that right after we hear from a few of our friends. Another day, I went over to E.J. Smith's place. You know, I'm sick of going to Derek Bodner and Kyle Neubeck's place, and I wanted to watch
Starting point is 00:18:57 some football, but E.J. disappointed me. His setup, it was a total mess, lagging, buffering, and switching between apps trying to find the game. Jamie, do you know what the Eagles magic number is to clinch the NFCs, to not only clinch
Starting point is 00:21:07 the NFC East, but to end the dreaded NFC East back-to-back champion. Yes. What does that date back to? 2007? 2004. That's wild. I will say that with Dallas's
Starting point is 00:21:23 loss, I'm young enough to remember when some people were telling me that Dallas would go four and oh in the final four games. I said, ha! They will not! They are a poverty franchise. So I do remember the post-game show where you, I guess, It was after one of these losses where you might have been after the Chargers loss where you mentioned, well, the numbers still say that it was 94% in 94% chance.
Starting point is 00:21:46 And there might have been some other hosts that were like, eh, it doesn't feel that way. Now, I will say, I agreed with the other. It didn't feel that way. I agreed with the said other host at the time. That said, 94% is 94% and now it's what, 99%. Yeah, I would say the magic numbers won, I'm guessing. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:03 I mean, real quick, the Dallas Cowboys are a joke. They're a poverty franchise. They're hard-knocked merchants. Yes, they had a small sliver of hope that they could make the playoffs. But everybody knew they weren't going to. Who were you kidding? Dude, they're hard-knock's merchants. They, once the cameras went on for this HBO show, they ran out.
Starting point is 00:22:26 They ran out of Eagles, you know. They had a good couple weeks. They had, they had everybody, including this bozo, who's talking right now, complimenting Brian Schott and I for being a pretty, cool guy and then they lose to Detroit and then they lose to J.J. McCarthy at home. That is pathetic. I sent Ben our new social media guy. I sent him a note right after the game. I'm like, dude, you got to do Dak as the J.J. McCarthy meme because, you know, that like weird meme of J.J. McCarthy. Yeah, Dak put his face on that. And it's not even Dax fault. It's just a
Starting point is 00:22:57 bad franchise. Um, poverty franchise, kind of a bunch of losers. Um, so I, I didn't really think they're going four and oh was within the realm of possibility for them but it's nice to see here i did and i am willing to say i was very wrong i thought the detroit game was going to be really hard for them but like the idea that they were going to lose to minnesota and j j mccarthy did not have that on my big no card chargers game left like like i got i have a side bet with anthony gargano i talked he was so sure that the cowboys were going to win uh i got him to give me chargers plus six and a half in dallas so like it's a good reminder that like even a because we're not used to losing streaks here recently
Starting point is 00:23:41 right like even the bad's never as bad typically unless it's 2023 where you're shuffling de-coordinators we have vic we have a stabilizing force they had the defense like the offense stunk we all saw what was going on but you had one constant here and then that was vicangio in this defense it was never going to be as bad as it seemed in that three-week stretch you know now that you mentioned that, the guy who really embodied that, the day after the Chargers game, now look, I was running on fumes. I, you know, I had
Starting point is 00:24:12 like three, four hours of sleep, you know, pretty groggy. That was brutal. Luckily, Anthony just carries his entire show, which is awesome. Yeah, you did me a real solid that time. Thank you. Look, and then he did me a real solid because he just is all energy. It's unbelievable. But during the show, a guy
Starting point is 00:24:28 who played in that game was in this studio. Oh, yeah, you got BG. Just a few hours later. And even after a three-game losing streak, even after we all were down in the dumps and just like, hey, is this team going to be able to rebound? PG, it's just like, that guy,
Starting point is 00:24:43 the power of positivity from him. He was like, we're fine. Like, we'll figure it out. And he said the same thing you did. And I know that's the cliche, right? It's never as bad as you think it is and it's never as good as you think it is. That's an offshoot of don't get too high,
Starting point is 00:24:56 don't get too low. But man, he really just, like, he basically changed my mind in one sitting. BG, just being like, look, we're not playing that well right now. But look, we play in the Raiders this weekend, still have a very good record, we'll figure it out. And how about the young up-and-comer, Brandy Graham, with two sacks in the game playing a new position as well, playing defensive tackle. And this is why I liked, I like Hard Knocks.
Starting point is 00:25:21 I know it kind of gets a bad rep, but the week prior, the footage of BG in the detackle room meeting, like, was awesome to me to see, like, to get a glimpse of Jordan Davis's personality. and like he's going to be the next he's going to be the torch bearer of like mr positivity once bg is finally done like i think jordan davis is going to be the guy that's going to be that beacon of hope and positivity like seeing him interact with clint and then seeing bg and jalen carter and like seeing bg in there being like yeah i got i got to shave these grays and clint's like no that means wisdom you earn those grays like i thought that was such a cool scene to see um just the respect that bg has in that building and like yeah i'm with you you like I saw him hung out a couple times and don't forget there's of course a new unblocked
Starting point is 00:26:09 coming out this I think we have Wednesday right yeah because of the short week yeah but yeah so let's play it but like he swayed me too he was just like man we good we could we're gonna figure this out and I'm like yeah yeah BG we're gonna figure it out and he figured it out and so here is a short clip from BG unblocked we're gonna have an offseason to think well how can I be for next year. We got to do it right now. I was impressed that Jalen Phillips came over asking for it like he already knows. Well, we always talk about like if you get a sack, this is what you doing. Like, you know, like I want to learn how to do your celebrations. So you're holding on, you get him right by the foot. Oh, man. And you know what's crazy on the second one. I was going
Starting point is 00:26:52 for the ball and he scooted up. And I just saw having to fall down and his foot was right there. I'm like, man, I thought I was grabbing somebody else's foot because that's how quick. It happened. He's the best. Well, that's the definition of don't get too high, don't get too low, right?
Starting point is 00:27:12 The Eagles have a terrible week. He's in, off the plane, probably slept like two hours. Oh, yeah. On the plane, and he's like,
Starting point is 00:27:19 it's okay, we're good. He actually slept the whole flight. I asked him. I go, how'd the flight go? He slept, he goes,
Starting point is 00:27:23 I slept the whole entire flight. I was like, wow, that's impressive. But then on the other end, he has two sacks, which is awesome because he is the oldest player to get him back in, in Eagles history.
Starting point is 00:27:32 And at a new position. but he's laughing at himself a little bit. Look, it was a good pass rush, but I literally was just grabbing out of foot and it was luckily, he was in position for a third. I think it was a Jomo got the sack, but Pickett was like breaking out of a Jomo a little bit, and BG was shutting a block and was right there.
Starting point is 00:27:51 So if Morrow didn't get it, BG was going to get a third. It was very cool to see. Just an awesome story. And I believe, so Brie was telling me before the show that BG talked about, on the show, his favorite Chinese restaurant that went to after the game. So check it out.
Starting point is 00:28:10 That's a place that I actually walk by. It's not too far from our studios here a lot. It was interesting to hear. That's where BG gets his celebratory post-game. I love that. Pretty cool. What would the Rich Hoffman celebratory meal be? Oh, so you probably wouldn't be Chinese food.
Starting point is 00:28:23 It would probably be, you know. A sleet steak? Yeah, yeah. Pizza wings, something like that. Wings is usually my kind of like go-to. That's probably not a celebratory. meal that's probably that's like a i might go stromboli yeah yeah or a pizza steak i'm a big pizza steak guy okay you ever dabble in pizza steak world no no really no get a little marineril in
Starting point is 00:28:48 there it's delightful we're thinking of new content all over the place today right i mean wikipedia rabbit hole and then and then pizza steak yeah maybe we do Wikipedia pizza steak too i'm sure that's on that'll be pretty good flyer says he likes beef and broccoli all right yeah drop your drop your celebratory meals in there. BG goes Chinese in Chinatown. Yeah. Okay. So, look,
Starting point is 00:29:08 Eagles defense was amazing. And I think, Julia, do we have a graphic of kind of how dominant of a defensive performance it was? Because, man, when you look at the numbers from that game, it's like,
Starting point is 00:29:18 it is startling. It's insane. It's insane. Stuff that the Eagles did. I actually made the joke in the middle of the game where it's like, you know, they show Vic Fangio up in the booth.
Starting point is 00:29:27 I love the Vic shots. Do you think he was just doing, he was on like Amazon doing some Christmas shopping? Probably. He did not have to call any people. Whoever his underlings are, he's like, you just take this one over. I've already cooked. It looks like he's, like, looking at his play sheet, but actually, no, he's just buying some.
Starting point is 00:29:41 Do you know what I always look for now? Last year, they caught him, and I believe there was some Zins on the table next to him. So every time they go to Vic Cam now, I'm always on the lookout. I'm like, is there Zins? I think he knew to, like, keep those put away. By the way, and we'll get to Vic a little more in a couple minutes. But again, that's why he is the platonic ideal of a defensive coordinator. I want an old crusty guy who's dipping.
Starting point is 00:30:01 and it's amazing. And thank you to Julia for putting up the stats there. Yeah, I mean, 75 yards. We talked about that. Insane. At least in a game, I mean, in the Super Bowl era, I feel like a lot of the stats that we say are like in the Nick Siriani. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:30:15 Like basically, you know, I know the forward pass was probably a thing back then, but we're going back quite a ways away. First shutout since 2018. That shutout actually was in Washington in that dump of a stadium. In week 17 that year, that was like the Eagles needed, I believe Minnesota to lose and then also win. Nick Foles completed a million passes in a row. That was awesome.
Starting point is 00:30:37 And then the thing that I talked about, too, 42 total snaps. I mean, just that's nuts. That's awesome. And that's a big deal for the, the big thing I was worried about with this defense is they were playing a bunch of snaps. Jordan Davis and when Jalen Carter was playing, they were playing like an insane percentage of the snaps because every post game show, Bo will usually go through the snap counts with us.
Starting point is 00:30:56 And I want it because we always asked Vinny like, ooh, Vinny, this week they were at 82. too, ooh, Vinny, 75, you know, like, they were always in that 75. You can tell Vinny, like, he wins his two. Yeah, yeah, yeah, sometimes he'll be like, ooh. Vinny grew up in the Jim Schwartz fast-downs environment, too, where... So to see Ford... There was rotation, and he sees those big numbers.
Starting point is 00:31:14 He's like, oh, man, that's... So I got a question for you. Of this defense this year, which players your favorite element of it? Because there's so many good parts within Vick's defense. Like, do you have a favorite player on this defense? because there's so many good options. I think my favorite player to watch on the defense. Just I don't think he's,
Starting point is 00:31:36 I don't think he's quite the best player, but he's pretty high up there is Cooper Dejean. I know I'm being a company man. But he's like, like the play that Fran had on the pod the other day, just like the processing that he provides from the slot, whether he's got run responsibilities. Like he's like, as Fran showed yesterday,
Starting point is 00:31:53 on a lot of these plays, you know, somebody motions over and it's like, hey, Coop, if they run this in the B gap, that's you you have to make the play like there's there's nobody else there it's going to be a huge run but if they don't run it then you got to cover brook bowers in the flat as well and he makes it look so easy i thought some of his plays against uh the chargers a few uh weeks ago was i mean like he was just blanketing lad madman yeah it was pretty cool so i think he's probably my favorite player to watch and to add to that his tackling ability there isn't a tackle i don't think he's
Starting point is 00:32:28 going to make every situation he gets in i'm like yeah he's got it like he doesn't miss it's crazy because you know we've seen bad tackling teams we saw a bad tackling team two years and i believe fran had a stat on this i have to look it up but i think they didn't miss a tackle he's got to bring this up oh okay you you have it then i'm going off a memory so you you cook they i believe were listed as the first team that did not miss a tackle i got to say they did miss some tackles i don't i don't know how that gets brought up like like what qualifies his attack it's clearly a pretty subjective stat sure they they missed a few tackles during the game but the overall point is that this defense is completely buttoned up when it comes to tackling right they still don't go that hard
Starting point is 00:33:13 in training camp but because now they have the players that like cooper dejean they're just going to wrap up every single time and it's not just him too it's Zach bonds to Kobe dean it's it's all of these guys being able to wrap up nobody cares that they don't go that hard in uh in uh in training camp because they have the guys I stopped caring about that like a decade ago are you able to do it but I mean to answer a question I love there's you're getting some support I think cooper is winning over like a lot of people um somebody says you know the best part about coop is how sure of a tackler he is somebody else said you know coop is my favorite player um and second is dean nicoby dean getting some love in there there's so many good answers mine as you know I've been
Starting point is 00:33:53 on it since since day one my boy quinyon yeah it's unbelievable I think the reason... The fact they got both of them in the same draft is wild. And I think there's an argument to be made that Quinyan is just the best player, but the thing is, like, they just don't really throw at them. So you don't see him, and that is a luxury, and I'm not taking that for granted. I think what Coop does, though, you can kind of see as a fan a little bit more. Also, too, like he's in the middle, like when you're just watching the TV tape, he's in the middle of the play.
Starting point is 00:34:19 And he's breaking on crossers, he's tackling on run plays, anything in the flat, he's all over, he's on Brock Bauer like he's just all over the field he's there's no wrong answer but I who do you think is the best pure defensive player on this team right now now taking let's give Jalen Carter the grace of knowing he was playing injured this year and assuming he's more on the footing that he was last year than this year who do you think is this team's best player because I think one of the guys we mentioned was a defensive player that you're finalist we haven't even gotten to last year Zach Bonn I think it's Quinion is the best player right now. I do too. Like Jalen Carter, yeah, that's fine. I still would like to extend Jalen Carter.
Starting point is 00:35:02 I know, I think that's going to be a very interesting off-season topic because he's been hurt, but he's also hurt because he plays a million snaps. And I think that's a talent that obviously you still want to keep around for a long time. He probably has the ceiling to be the best player. And I think last year, I think you'd probably argue that Jalen Carter,
Starting point is 00:35:18 he was getting double team pretty statistically. And, you know, like the play he made at the end of the Rams game was a man. But I think right now, I think Quinyon is the, I don't want to say it's a clear answer, but it's up there. I mean, Jaylon Phillips also really good too. He hasn't been here for that long. I was hoping Nolan Smith was going to be the guy we were talking about this year is like getting into that best player on the defense. But I do think it's Quinyan.
Starting point is 00:35:41 I got some quick stats for you here on Quinyon, if you'd like him. This is courtesy of Jeff Kerr. Quinion amongst cornerbacks with 500 plus coverage snaps. He is first in completion rate. a mere 38.6%. He is first in passing yards allowed in the NFL. Passing touchdowns allowed, pretty important one. Points are important to NFL offenses.
Starting point is 00:36:08 Yes, he's allowed exactly zero, which is first in the NFL. And his passer rating against is first in the NFL this season. Quinion Mitchell is an all-pro cornerback. He has a chance to be the franchise's best. all-time cornerback. He's never going to have the interception rate that Eric Allen did, but this is a guy that is going to be
Starting point is 00:36:30 in rare air in Eagles franchise history for the position he plays. Are you upset that he's not in the top 10 of pro bowl voting for the competition? I mean, that's a joke. That's a joke. I think people just look at interceptions and he doesn't have any.
Starting point is 00:36:44 Well, he deserves to be an all pro this year. Totally. I mean, it's an interesting thing where it's like... And I think Cooper DeGine does too. Should you get interceptions when teams are rarely throwing at you. It's the old nom de awesome why. Yeah, it's one of those things. Okay, we will talk a little bit more about not just the players on this team because there's more, there's more guys, right?
Starting point is 00:37:03 Joe Hunt getting a lot of love. Yeah. David is having a very strong, let's say, bounce back year where Fran Duffy was really the big believer in him and that faith has been paid off in Jordan Davis. So we have a lot more to talk about the defense and what we might want to see from these guys over the last few weeks as well. But first, we're going to hear from a few more of our friends. Okay, guys, let's now talk about Bet365, which has 90 million users worldwide and streams over 780,000 events this year. But the best thing in my opinion that Bet365 has is the early payout offer.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Let's talk about what that would look like in football. If your team goes up 17 or more points with the Bet365 early payout offer, the instant payout on straight bets and parlays will be marked as winners. So guys, breaking news from Bet365, new customers now get $150 in bonus bets when you bet $5, win or lose. Starting point is 00:39:28 Some stuff going on behind the scenes, everybody. I was just temporarily sweating. That's okay. We made it. We're back. We're safe. We didn't get fired, which is good. Anyway, we'll let the people,
Starting point is 00:39:42 we'll let them guess what was going on behind the scenes. Well, speaking of it, if you want to, get, you know, insider information, Beau, E.J. and Fran yesterday explained an inside joke on the Supporters Club video. And we do have the supporters club going here. If you ever want to become a supporter, uh, you can get inside behind the scene footage and some custom emojis. Uh, I haven't watched it yet, but I do have to watch it because I don't know which inside joke they were explaining. There's a lot. But they did give you an inside joke explanation behind the scenes. Yeah. Well, you know what's not an inside joke, Jamie? Vic Fangio.
Starting point is 00:40:16 Vick Fanchi. What a transition. It was like a three out of ten transition, but, you know, I did it with conviction, so that's fine. Unbelievable, right? So good. And so a question that we were back. Should we find the offensive Vic Fangio that's just here for like seven, eight years and loves the Phillies and doesn't want to leave and for a new sparkly job? Well, what about Kevin Stafansky?
Starting point is 00:40:43 Yes. Hell yeah. I just don't think like he he's going to get head coaching looks oh probably I don't even know if he's going to get fired I don't know I would I don't know I mean his records giants you stay away from him I'm just saying he likes the Phillies so yeah I mean that would work for me if he wants to come and be the OC for the next seven years I just want some stability of the position and Uncle Vic has given you that it's man we got so lucky with this because and think about how close it was to not happening like I always think what happens this is why I hate Ganon yeah what happens if because he would have been the defensive court in 2020 and look that defense this is ultimate sliding doors would now in fairness the 2023 defense was so bad that it sure it probably spurred some necessary changes i mean we just talked about quin yon and cooper de jean like how he was not messing around at the top of that draft he was like our back seven is terrible and a vick is is kind of bandating it together a little bit i don't know maybe that's an well in fairness maybe zach bonn's not
Starting point is 00:41:43 here because Vic pounded the table for him like maybe it happens still but maybe it doesn't so but anyway when you look at Vic just not being here the one thing that I always think about is what happens if like Miami what if that goes swimmingly what if the dolphins
Starting point is 00:41:59 are you know a conference championship team what if their players aren't soft what if their quarterback can play in the cold did you watch two last night by the way a little bit yeah I was doing some work and I had it on in the kitchen he's he's terrible they've been playing well over the past five, six games.
Starting point is 00:42:15 And obviously it's a little bit of a fake winning streak because they're not going to make the playoffs. But good for McDaniel for rallying them. He probably saved his job. I don't know. I don't know if he did, but maybe whatever. Like I think they've done some good stuff. But yeah, I just was thinking like, man, Tua is so bad in the cold.
Starting point is 00:42:31 That was a frigid game. An old man Rogers was slinging it just way better than two of us. It's pretty impressive what these old heads are doing out there. Anyway, though, luckily Miami was a disaster and Vic comes back home. in the next year, and luckily, yeah, Vic Fangio is from Dunmore, Pennsylvania, and most of his families here, his mother still lives up there. I believe his kids live a couple hours south of Philadelphia. Jamie, here's a question for you. Of the NFL defensive coordinators, or let's say, let's not even say defensive coordinators, let's say the play callers that are going to be in the
Starting point is 00:43:04 playoffs this year, where do you think Vic Fangio is going to rank heading in? I think you can go with the current playoff picture, too. Yeah, I think he's definitely. top three without like diving into the nitty gritty of it there's no way you can actually like there's no objective way to say yeah I mean the Houston defense and then you because when you're dissecting
Starting point is 00:43:25 like a top three then you start getting into like well what defense like what's the guy working with like they're all really really good I mean I would say Houston Seattle and the Eagles are probably the three you cut up and kind of rank one two three
Starting point is 00:43:40 if I had to look at it The guy that it seems to me, and look, I'm not Fran. I'm not watching all of these teams. But the guy who, in terms of a defensive play caller, who I would put on Vick's level, I'm not putting him ahead of Vick, is Mike McDonald in Seattle. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:58 And then I guess Vance Joseph would be the fourth. It's clearly done a very good job. Now, I think Vic has, he is a couple things working for him where you would rank him ahead of some of those guys, and that's number one. Doesn't have Nick Benino? Well, I mean, Vic has very good players that he's working with.
Starting point is 00:44:13 Yeah, but he doesn't have like that double digit sack dominant guy. It's true. The thing that Vic has going for him, though, is number one, he has been such an influential coordinator. So the fact that he's now having success, like he is the guy who's influenced how defense has been played over the last, let's say, decade. And so now that he's, you know, a top five defense the last two years as well, I think he's going to have a little bit more pub in that regard because he's already that
Starting point is 00:44:41 influential and the other thing too let's be real count the rings i love being on the right side of this you know i don't like it in basketball ring culture and all this yeah yeah count them baby and vangio is the defending super bowl champion in large part because his defense was lights out all of last year but they're right there not skipping a beat and and part of being a great coach is not having the fall off right like keeping it together even when your personnel changes and the eagles defensive line had a major personnel change and and the beautiful thing you were saying that there is like Vicks earned it over years and different franchises. Sean McVeigh knows that.
Starting point is 00:45:17 And let's let's dream out a perfect scenario here where the Eagles and the Rams go Destin in an NFC championship game. It's played at L.A. I don't like that part. The Rams are nasty. And obviously if they're playing in Philly, it's a much different game. But, you know, there's probably going to be 50% Eagles fans in that stands. Definitely be.
Starting point is 00:45:38 And Sean McVeigh has. said the words out loud, basically, that Vic Fangio made him change the way he is as a coach, that he has kept him up at night. Vic Fangio is the ultimate kryptonite for Sean McVeigh. So if you want like a blessing of, yeah, you're the best E-coordinator in the NFL, go ask Sean McVeigh, what do you think? Because he'll probably tell you it's Vic Fangio. Well, and everybody, everybody from that Shanahan tree has said over the years that
Starting point is 00:46:07 Fangio is the best like Kyle Shanahan said to that. Matt LaFleur said that as well. So, yeah, and look. So there is. Vic Fangio is the best. I will say Sean McVeigh and the Rams, that is a scary team because they're nasty. They move the ball all the game against Eagles. That was an awesome Eagles win.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Jordan Davis blocking the kick that multiple kicks. That was awesome. But he owns them. The Rams, they had a lot of fourth down calls that were just terrible in that game. So the Eagles are going to have to play better. That's probably because McVeigh's sprain is scramble because he sees Vic up there in the booth, throwing in Zins and spitting. You know, he's like, oh, God.
Starting point is 00:46:42 You think that's it? Yeah, I think he's terrified of the sight of him. He's from the field. He's like, man, that guy's so cool up there. He's throwing a vapid, you know, whatever. I guess I shouldn't give away free advertising. But he owns Sean McVey. Yeah, it's one of those things where McVey is going to have to.
Starting point is 00:46:58 So, like, that's a nice back pocket piece if you ever do get to an end of, and let's, you know, the Rams have to get there themselves, too. Which I would assume they do. It was like the lions last year where everybody assumed, All right, Eagles, you know, they've had an amazing regular season, but they're going to have to win in Detroit to get to the Super Bowl. No, no, they're not going to have to. Thank you, Tailgate, Ted, for that.
Starting point is 00:47:17 Yeah, thank you, Jared Gough, for throwing five interceptions. That was very nice of you. So, Jamie, I guess the last thing that I would ask you is, is why do you think this defense? Because they're not top five in EPA. I think they're like seventh in success rate. Anyway, like, they have backed up an elite defensive season with another elite defensive season.
Starting point is 00:47:39 It feels like it's just gone under the radar, though. And I have a couple. It is because the offense, like because people like the bitch, I think a little bit. And sometimes we don't appreciate greatness when we have it. We're always looking for the perfection. And it's like, well, this team's not perfect because the offense isn't perfect. Well, the defense is getting pretty damn close. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:57 And the other issue for the defense is that there have been a couple games. I think the one in the back of my head that is just. Giants. Well, that's one. But the one that the more recent one where we're, post-Jalen Phillips, just the one game that was just a disaster from beginning to end was the Bears game where they just, the Bears ran the ball down their throat now. Manangai.
Starting point is 00:48:18 The hope is that that Eagles team, we talked about the snaps and finally getting off their feet this week. They played a ton of snaps in that game. Now, some of that was their fault. They couldn't get off the field, but that was also a short turnaround. I think that is sticking in the back of my head where the Rams were able to run the ball pretty well earlier in the year. Am I wrong for just kind of like science as well, although they were very very.
Starting point is 00:48:39 very banged up for that. Throwing the short week games out. Like, I, I abandoned them too. Like, I'm like, that was a short week. I'll throw it away. And that may be a fault of mine. Totally, no. I don't know if I give them full credit.
Starting point is 00:48:52 Look, I'm with you. Which sounds stupid, but, you know, you get me. And you could also just say, like, hey, they have shown, there's five or six games that have just been an awesome defensive game. Yeah. Lions game. Packers game. So even over the past two weeks, they are on a streak of,
Starting point is 00:49:09 20 consecutive possessions without giving up a touchdown. I don't care who you're playing. I know that Chargers offensive line is banged up, and I know the Raiders are bad. That is pretty hard to do. Unbelievable. I mean, yeah, the Chargers game at the time, midway through the fourth quarter,
Starting point is 00:49:22 I believe it was the highest pressure rate in NFL history. It's crazy. Like, they were getting to Herbert, like 74% of the time without blitzing. So the idea of how good is your good? Like the Eagles, this defense passes that test. Oh, absolutely. Flying colors. So I'm feeling pretty good about it.
Starting point is 00:49:44 Hopefully this is another week where they're able to just dominate, right? And then they get a nice, easy win, and they break the NFC East curse. I think they will. But so it would be good, right? Because you get two really easy games in a row. You get Las Vegas. Then you get Washington. I'm not like saying they're going to dominate Washington because you never know in the NFL
Starting point is 00:50:03 division game, all of those qualifiers. But if they are able to have another. really strong defensive game. Then you get the nice test at the end of the year against Buffalo, which it's like, look, the Eagles are probably playing for the three or the two seats. So it's not the biggest deal in the world either way. I think I probably would rather have, I mean, you'd rather have the two with the chance to host two games.
Starting point is 00:50:23 I think that the quality of opponent might be negligible, right? Yeah, it's like 49ers, bucks, packers are all kind of in that same like ilk, you know. Seahawks too. And Seahawk. Sam Darnold's been crap the last three weeks. I'm a little bit of a Jordan love, Sam Darnold, like, DAC, like, all these people that have, like, stellar regular seasons. It's always like, oh, wow, Sam Donald.
Starting point is 00:50:46 It's like, okay, it's the same thing with Jared Gough. He's in that same group. I'm like, yeah, let me see it on the biggest of stages. And Jared Gough's biggest game of his career last year, what do you throw four interceptions? Like, some guys just have that. Against a terrible defense. Yeah, they just have that poo your pants kind of mentality and, like, big game mindset. And like, until I see Jordan Love do it, until I see Sam Darnold do it, until I see
Starting point is 00:51:10 Dak Prescott do it, they're in the poo your pants category. And like, yeah, bring on Seattle. Bring on Brock Purdy or Mack Jones. Bring on Baker Mayfield. Like these guys just aren't it to me. So Matthew Stafford, then I'll start to sweat. But like, these guys stink. Do you think football coaches try to get their players to play with the poo your pants
Starting point is 00:51:31 mentality? Absolutely. Uncle Vic definitely does. Kurt Signetti at Indiana. Poo your pants mentality. Mendoza did not poo his pants versus those big bad buck guys. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:42 But back to Uncle Vic real quick because I wanted to get this in before we hear some more friends. I sent this to you last night from our old friend Bjorn. This stat blew my brain into bits last night. So Vic Fangio has coached the Eagles defense for 35 games,
Starting point is 00:51:58 including the playoffs. Of those 35 games, the defense has held the opponent to one or fewer. touchdowns in 13 of those games, nearly 40% of his games coached as Eagles DC. Again, it's like, how good is your good?
Starting point is 00:52:14 They're good. It's just completely dominant stuff. That's insane. I mean, Vic Fangio might be my favorite coordinator in Eagles history. And it's only 35 games. Who had that before Jim Johnson? Probably Jim Johnson.
Starting point is 00:52:27 Yeah. Yeah, well, I mean, look, Vic, Eagles were, I don't know. But Jim Johnson defense is like let up some points. You know what I mean? They blitz their ass off and would leave themselves open and vulnerable at times, whereas Vic doesn't blitz as much and just keeps people in check. Big Ben, but don't break vibes from some of those Jim Johnson.
Starting point is 00:52:51 Absolutely. I mean, again, Jimmy, part of the reason that the Eagles have been, as good as they are this year with as frustrating as they've been, is that they've been awesome in the red zone on both sides. Yeah. So Kevin Petulow, whatever he's doing in between the 20s, not sure. I think maybe needs a little bit of work inside the 20 yard line. A lot of Andy Reed shovel pass stuff.
Starting point is 00:53:10 Dallas Goddard pumping up his stats. I'm sure somebody's going to pay him way too much money in the offseason because these are like walking touchdowns for him. But the Eagles defense as well. They rank fourth in red zone defense as well. My daughters would really enjoy all the poop chatter in the chat happening right now. So good job, everyone. It's a poopy Tuesday, everybody.
Starting point is 00:53:30 Okay, let's hear from a few more of our friends. we have a pretty funny video at the end here as well as we'll get you out of here with some other funny stuff but first few of our friends okay guys now let's talk about our friends at game time in the world cup it is coming to america for the first time since 1994 next year i think everybody's going to be pretty excited about that and that's why the game time app is going to be such a lifesaver for you it gives you the advantage back with all the tickets to the matchups that you and care about. Starting point is 00:55:55 in round one would be at Chicago in round two which normally I would make that sound effect that you just made but the bears kind of beat the crap out of the Eagles a couple weeks ago yeah I would just use the
Starting point is 00:56:07 it's hard to beat a team twice cliche well and boom right back at you you got me I think that in terms of like a deep playoff run because I think we all know the offense is going to have to be
Starting point is 00:56:24 average They're going to have to make some big days. They got to score more than 23 a game. Whatever that number is, but like you have to be in that ballpark. Whatever they found last week, a little more Jalen running. That was good. A few more deep passes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:41 As much as we say, like sometimes I think we oversimplify, ah, just do this, just do that. Obviously, it's like a little trickier to share for an NFL play call. That's it. Maybe just do under center more. But seriously, like it's pretty good. It seems like it works. It helps your running. game. Greg Olson thought he made some pretty good points on the broadcast. He's very good.
Starting point is 00:57:00 Yeah, I mean, I thought that was. I was shocked. We had Greg Olson. I didn't pay attention to it prior to the game. It must have been a bad slate. But like, how the hell are you putting Greg Olson on a Raiders game? That's bad work. He's been good this year too. Like when he's been talking about the Seahawks this year, like he's like, yeah, the reason they're good is because they play in heavy personnel and then they throw out of heavy personnel. And his point with the Eagles was, they're mainly like a shotgun throwing team but under center they're running the ball it's what fran always talks about marrying the run
Starting point is 00:57:29 and the past game together they were able to do that against the raiders but that wasn't a very good team not the worst defense in the world but jackson smith and jigba is a big part of their their magic this year and guess what we have quinion mitchell who just removes players from games his stats are wild i can't believe how good he him in cooper dejean might go down is like the best
Starting point is 00:57:52 consecutive draft picks in Eagles history easily. I mean, I'm sure there's other great ones. I think was it LaShawn and Deshawn? Was it LaShawn and Deshawn? Because LaShawn was second and so was Deshawn. It might not have been the same. It might have been Macklin and Deshawn, whatever. I'm sure there's some other good ones, but Quinyon and Coop, I mean, you're talking about two, if they stay
Starting point is 00:58:14 here, Eagles Hall of Famers. Yeah. Unbelievable. I think so. And then you have Green Bay as the as the seven seed right now. And they just took a huge huge blow huge that's brutal if you're a packers fan you're feeling like it was macklin and shady there you go pretty good um oh nine dress hell of a hell of a one two punch right there um yeah if you're a packers fan that is just a tough pill to swallow because you thought things were different and then the one piece you pushed all in for a non-contact like you knew it right away the knee just like it did like the forward where the shin went forward it was like that
Starting point is 00:58:51 sucks that's brutal i'm not a packers fan but i i feel bad for i feel bad because he is like literally like that's if if packers fans were like yeah we're probably just not going to win now because that guy is a complete game changer yeah and to win a super bowl they probably were going to need one micha parsons game where he just completely wrecks it in the second half so i think before we get to the last few minutes of the show i think we do have to go head on over not to bovertime but to overtime Ooh, Peter in the chat says Lane Johnson and Ertz is a good one, too. One, two, 2013 draft.
Starting point is 00:59:28 Two Hall of Famers, yeah, that's pretty damn good. Eagles Hall of Famers, that is. Marcus Smith, the next year? No. Okay. But yeah, sorry, sorry Packers fans. That's a tough pill to swallow. Anyway, when we look at this defense, right, the offense is going to have to be average,
Starting point is 00:59:42 but the good news is the defense is going to be good enough where I think you're going to be in every single game. Yes, guys. We even talk about that Bears game when they were taking. terrible and they got they got run over for most of the game they were still in it they limited the damage to a degree that was like look if the offense had done anything they would have been right in that game so so that's got to be the hope i don't know if i'm feeling a little too positive based on just them playing a terrible team but like look man they're they're nine and five
Starting point is 01:00:09 they're probably going to get 11 wins minimum at the end of the year so who do you like part of the reason i feel positive is i don't think the nFCs as great as a lot of pundits do like everybody talks about the NFC being so much better than the AFC this year and yeah it like most likely is substantially better but like does San Fran scare you? No they've been doing it a lot with like
Starting point is 01:00:34 believe it or not like special teams luck yeah their kicker had made like 22 kicks does Seattle really scare you um not as much on the road I gotta say and it probably will be on the road it's a big game in a couple nights I'm very excited to watch that does Tampa Bay really scare you no no Is Green Bay really scare you?
Starting point is 01:00:53 Without Micah, it's much less. There's one team that scares you. Yeah. And it's a Hall of Fame quarterback with a great head coach. And you're going to have to play on the road. And you're going to have to play in their house. That's the one. Every other game, I think, is easily, I shouldn't say easily, is winnable.
Starting point is 01:01:12 Like, you have, because of Vic Fangio in this defense, bring on anybody but Matthew Stafford and I'll have my chest out. It's been such a funny year in that we've been. just pulling our hair out about how bad the offense has been. And at the end of this season, the Eagles are going to get a four-game stretch where they're going to play three gimmies from what we can tell. And then they're going to play Buffalo, who, again, that's a team. That'll be a fun.
Starting point is 01:01:34 It'll be a fun game, but that's been a flawed team. They are not as good as they have been in pastures. And Josh Allen is up against our strength. You know what I mean? So, like, he's pulling most of these out of his rear end late in games. Credit to him. I'm not trying to take anything away from him. But, like, I don't know if Vic allows that to happen.
Starting point is 01:01:50 I can't wait for that game. But again, the other nice thing about that game, Jamie, I don't think the Eagles are going to be playing for that much. If they've been this week, it's like, all right, they're not going to drop down to four. If you get up to too sick, but like whatever. Yeah, you're going to prioritize health and rest and snap counts for certain guys. You'll play Tanner in week 18, and you'll still win the game because he's Tanner, but.
Starting point is 01:02:11 And Lane, maybe go out there and play a quarter to knock some rust off, but like we're putting you on ice until the playoffs. So that's my point. We're getting a stretch of the season where I think the Eagles are mostly, going to look good and we're going to head into the playoffs after a pressure free month of football feeling like all right these guys got a shot so they're obviously going to be favored in both commanders games what do you think that line is in buffalo i think it's eagles let's just assume starters are perceived to be playing oh yeah i bet that eagles minus three and a half
Starting point is 01:02:44 i would that sound right would the bills be favored in that game i don't i don't think so their defense is bad. It's bad, but they're playing at home. I don't know. Yeah, maybe it's like Eagles minus one and a half. I don't know. That'll be an interesting one. Any aspiring YouTube creators head to the lots for that game.
Starting point is 01:03:03 Bill's Eagles, man, that'll be, especially if there's like snow on the ground. If you had to do one of their traditions, would you go through the table or would you be the ketchup and mustard guy? I don't know the ketchup and mustard one. Oh, you don't know the ketchup and mustard old man? really i've seen the table stuff oh there's julia you might have to see if you can find a video of them real quick there's this one old head bill's fan he's like white beard white hair in every single game there's a tradition where he like a lot of people come and watch it people stand on top of like a big van like some kind of old school van and they just douse
Starting point is 01:03:44 them with like four to eight bottles of yellow mustard like all over the face, all over the chest, just covered, head to toe in mustard. I'm shocked you've never seen them before. It's very funny. It's very dumb. What would I rather do? Because you're not going to get hurt with the mustard,
Starting point is 01:04:02 but you are going to be a yellowish hue for the rest of the day. I go to the game with ketchup and mustard all over me. I think it's ketchup and mustard. It's definitely mustard. I think they mix ketchup in. But you could hurt yourself going through a table. Yeah, I think I'd rather do the ketchup and mustard, although that would be a rough couple hours like I don't know if some people hate the smell of
Starting point is 01:04:24 of mustard if I found them oh that's a lot of mustard yeah there's ketchup in there um you know what um awful people are sick I'm still a young whippersnapper snapper I think I'd go through the table I yeah if you're telling me I got to go to the game after it's like well I can just sit my seat at the game and yeah like my hip will be a little bit sore and you know I'm not like a pro wrestler I don't know how to like take a bump but I don't know I figured out Kelsey did it a couple years ago I understand he's a better athlete than I am but
Starting point is 01:04:54 just a little bit rich don't shortchange yourself I mean he also has more weight too so I don't know that's better or worse and you see his challenge I don't know where he is in the challenge but he's trying to dung a basketball in 30 days Jason Kelsey yeah I saw a clip on social he's a great athlete
Starting point is 01:05:11 you think he can dunk he's not like that tall so he said he's close as is so he's given himself and him and Travis were, like, debating it. He said he's giving himself 30 days to train to see if he can dunk at the end of 30 days. Pray for his Achilles. Yeah, he's going all out.
Starting point is 01:05:28 It's ambitious. But if he's close enough, perhaps it's possible. He'll be the face of Rothman if it doesn't work out. All right. I think we have one more video before we get out of here, Julia, and that's the one of A.J. Brown. Oh, this hurts me. So this is, I mean, this is a nice video.
Starting point is 01:05:46 AJ Brown helping out a little kid It was a nice video until it gets ruined Hey look you got to look past the main event of the video And see what is on the side Jamie's pretty passionate about this I agree with him as well But yeah AJ Brown he got some nice hot chocolate For a young fan
Starting point is 01:06:03 The Eagles put this up on their social media Which is fair Looks good Oh wait what's that to the side though A guy is sticking a Sharpie In AJ Brown's face Come on, man. Like, I understand the autographs, I hope, for the kid.
Starting point is 01:06:20 But like... It didn't look like it was for the kid. It might not be. And it might not even be his son. He could be glomming on. I don't know here. But like, the adult autograph seeker, if you're doing it for the kid, I have some sympathy and some grace there.
Starting point is 01:06:33 But like, if you're an adult autograph seeker, what are you doing? I know some of these guys try to sell it, and that makes it even sleazier. But like, come on. I guess it could have been... Just enjoy the nice moment with the AJ Brown bringing your... potentially your kid a cup of hot chocolate it could have been for the kid but that said like wouldn't you just give the sharp beat of the kid then yes because that's how you sell the professional athlete uh for sure the uh that's what makes me think it's not for the kid otherwise just have
Starting point is 01:07:01 the kid do it like we had a discord uh diehard member the other night reach out to me it was like hey do you know anybody at the sixers i really want to like send joel a personal thank you note because he signed my son's jersey and his son I think is 10 and he's like that's a guy now I was a kid autograph seeker so like I know what a core memory that is for that kid and he's like I was just so moved and like my son's so touched by it like have your kid do it they're more likely to sign for the kid you're making it weird if you're the adult like what are you doing so what do you do I have a bit of a hot take to get us out of here yeah I never understood the autograph thing Even when I was a kid.
Starting point is 01:07:42 So when I was a kid, I used to send teams letters. I was obsessed with Eddie Jones coming out of Temple. So like when he went to the Lakers, I had the 25 jersey that I got from Rice's Market. I loved Eddie Jones. I sent the Lakers like self-address stamp envelopes and was like, hey, dear Lakers, my name is Jamie Lynch from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and I am a huge Eddie Jones fan. And please and find enclosed a card. And I'd send like a rookie card in.
Starting point is 01:08:10 be like if he you know could find time to sign it i would be his biggest fan and like more often than not you didn't get anything but occasionally you would get like some people to sign something for you did you get one from the lakers i got like a um i didn't get an edy john's autograph it was one of those like chicken i stole that they did send me something back but it was like the audit the superimposed autograph of like the whole team on like a it like their mailer it's nice of them it was it was uh i don't know something about the hunt of it was really thursday fun. My dad used to take me to Dick's sporting goods for like Eagles nights and like there would be like all these random, like I met Bobby Hoyne in the middle of like Hoyne mania.
Starting point is 01:08:49 Do you still have that one? Yeah. I think it's actually on that football right over. Do you want to hold on one second. Well, so as he goes and gets a Bobby Hoying signed football, which I'm sure everybody can't wait to see. The thing I never understood was like when I was a kid, I was just like, okay, so this professional athlete just wrote chicken scratch on this jersey or football. I just, it never registered to me. It still doesn't register to me when people have memorabilia in their basements and
Starting point is 01:09:21 all that stuff. I'm just like, okay, like Pat Riley was here for a second and he just went like. Yeah. So it's in the other studio. But I think it's Bobby Hoyne, Rhett Hall,
Starting point is 01:09:31 Irving Friar and somebody else random. That's nice. That's like a. But what I'll defend the autograph if you're like, Like as an adult, I'm never going to go up to a guy. I'm like, can I get an autograph? But as a kid, looking back, like, I have a Jerry Stackhouse. I had a replica Jerry Stackhouse, Sixers Jersey.
Starting point is 01:09:51 My dad took me to a Cherry Hill Hotel where Jerry Stackhouse was doing like a breakfast with the fans type of thing. And I got my jersey sign and my dad got a frame for me. And every time I look at that jersey, I'm reminded of that memory. So to me as a kid, as an adult now looking back on the things I acquired, as a kid, it's like there's a really positive fond memory from it. Look, I'm not against kids searching for another. Every time I see it, it's a warm memory to me.
Starting point is 01:10:22 So I think that's why I... Yeah, it wasn't for me, but it's not a hot take for a kid. That's great. Like, you know, if... Oh, adult autographs takers get lost. If a kid just wants to be a fan and uses that as a core memory and associate that... I didn't know that as a kid that it was going to be a core memory. But now as an adult, the reason I have them hanging up is like...
Starting point is 01:10:40 Like, oh, that was a great day with my dad. Oh, we went to Stockburger Chevrolet or whatever in Newtown to meet Ricky Waters for that one. And, like, everyone is like a little bit of like, it was a hunt. And it's a fun memory. So that's kind of as an adult, why I have them hanging. But the adult autograph seekers, especially the aggressive ones who are probably going to sell them online. Yeah, you stink people. So agree with you.
Starting point is 01:11:07 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. So if that got. Give for the kid the pen. He's going to sign it for the kid. He's not going to sign it for an adult. Like, come on. Totally. And look, and for that kid,
Starting point is 01:11:18 hopefully that's a core memory because, hey, my favorite receiver made me some hot chocolate. It's pretty cool. It's better than an autograph. I'd rather have nice hot chocolate on the most, on like the coldest day of the year. Come on. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:28 I saw a clip speaking of autographs. Donovan McNabb. I guess there was an Oaks, one of those autograph shows this past weekend. And Donovan McNabb went over and got Cooper de Jeans's autograph. Did you see that clip? I didn't, but like, look, at the autograph shows, that's fine, too, because I think the autograph shows a little weird. I find it weird too, but, but hey, if little kids want to, you know, it's for the kids.
Starting point is 01:11:49 And, you know, Cooper DeGine is going to sign for that. I get it. It's just, just never registered. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. That is enough autograph talk from us in overtime. We kind of went off the rails a little bit there. Yeah, a little bit.
Starting point is 01:12:00 But that's fine. That's what overtime is for early week this week. So I don't know exactly what's going on. We have, Tulia, can you translate the Eagles week ahead? I know we have the Saturday game, so I think Swooper is Thursday. I mean, they could just do Thursday Friday. Anyway, Bo, E.J. Fran,
Starting point is 01:12:23 Danes will be in here at some point as well. I don't know which days. So tune in to find out. Thank you, everybody, for watching a rare Tuesday edition of the PHOI Eagle Show. My whole week's thrown off now. It feels like Wednesday. With myself and Jamie. Enjoy the week.
Starting point is 01:12:39 Go, birds, and we love you.
