Mikes are hot.
We are here.
Hello everybody and welcome to PHY Eagles podcast on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon live from the Xfinity Studio.
And presented by Ashley Bow Wolf and E.J. Smith and E.J. We are six days away.
Five days away? Five days.
From the start of the football season for the Eagles, there's a game tomorrow night.
I'm very excited for some Wednesday night football.
It's exciting.
We finally made it.
Yeah.
We are here.
We are going to have lots of coverage.
I saw a friend in the chat saying 48 hours before the first swooper, which honestly is
terrified.
Honestly, that had not even crossed my mind.
I had a shutter through my entire body that we were back in swooper.
And I hadn't even thought about that.
I mean, it's exciting times.
Wow.
Lots to get to.
Here we go.
Everybody's fired up.
We made it, everybody.
We made it.
You know who did not make it to the start of week one?
from a football playing standpoint.
And we'll no longer be suing up for the Eagles, apparently.
Oh, one Brandon Graham.
Brandon Graham.
Yeah.
The announcement this morning, I'm excited to hear from him on.
I mean, BG, we got a live show tomorrow.
We could have waited.
Oh, no, it's a little tease, little tease.
You know, you got to hear what he has to say tomorrow.
You got to get the explanation.
Live.
Unlocked.
We are going to be live noon every Wednesday with Brandon Graham this season.
He will also be joining us for the postgame show on Sunday.
So exciting stuff.
What do you make?
I will tell everybody and urge you to hear more from Brandon.
Absolutely.
And his explanation about this on tomorrow show,
but from a Eagles perspective, what do you make of it?
Yeah, I mean, BG has said over the off season that if it wasn't going to happen during training camp,
it wasn't going to happen.
Man, of word.
I can respect that.
Stand on business.
I can, yeah, I think it was probably informed by the experience he had last year.
And I look forward to hearing him.
explain that decision again tomorrow at noon BGM blocked but overall I mean I think
the Eagles are well situated at edge rusher I think he could have still brought
value to them as an interior rusher you know a situational guy like he was last
year at defensive tackle it wouldn't shock me if at some point during the
season how he Roseman calls him but you know BG's made it clear that he wants he
wanted to get in during training camp give him itself a chance to really acclimate
and get used to playing football after his experience
has his experience last year.
Yeah, I think that it makes a lot of sense for him.
Yeah, I have a few thoughts.
One is, I think if the summer had played out a little bit differently,
we might see Brennan Graham on this team.
I agree.
And by that, I mean AJ A. J. Panessa, you know, Arnold DeBicati,
better depth edge than they had at this time last year
when they first went out to signs of Darius Smith,
and we're hoping that Agba O'Croonquo or Azizzo Jolari was going to bring juice
and we never really saw it from those guys in the summer.
Epinessa in particular had a very good summer.
And I also think the improvement of Ty Robinson
over the course of the summer
is maybe even the more impactful thing.
That's a great point.
Because otherwise you would really be guessing
about having somebody with some pass rush juice
in the reserve set to defensive tackle.
I think that's probably where they might have been looking at BG.
So I think that's part of it.
I also just kind of feel like,
I don't know, man.
if a franchise legend wants to keep playing another year, yeah.
A little bit like nasty to not just keep the doors open,
but that is me projecting a little bit and speculating a little bit.
Yeah, I mean, I think the fact that he was open to playing another year
and the Eagles were the ones that said that they were probably well situated enough to not.
It also might have been a disagreement about what his value was.
Sure, you know.
Right. Yeah, but I'm sure.
It was very good last year in his spot.
Absolutely.
I'm sure the Eagles would say that the door is always open for him in some fact.
Well, I'm sure they would say that.
I don't think they've always done that.
No, I'm saying that I'm sure if he wanted to be around the building, they would want.
Oh, sure.
But yes, in terms of his contributions on the field, I agree with you.
I'm with you.
I totally agree.
I also think there was something to it in a passing of the torch in terms of the structural leadership of the team that is worth discussing.
because we haven't talked about.
Yeah,
Claims.
They're seven captains.
I did play this game with myself
when I heard they announced seven captains.
You trying to guess?
I could go seven for seven with no misses.
How'd you do?
And,
well,
I didn't do it.
I went six for seven
because they stripped Jake Elliott of the captaincy.
There's no special teams captain.
Four-time captain cast aside.
They gave him the Devante Smith treatment.
They did give him the Devante Smith treatment.
He comes into the building.
Nick Sirriani-Wiwai.
walks right up to him, rips the sea right off his chest.
Yeah, Jake, we're going to need those jerseys that you have in your locker.
We're going to need those back.
You're going to sketch.
I was a little bit surprised by that.
I was a little surprised as well.
I mean, you see the seven that they listed.
Jalen Hertz, Lane Johnson, say, Juan Barclay, Devante Smith back in the captain.
Got his back.
Got him back.
Zach Bond, Jordan Mila.
Stella's got his groove back.
Devonte's got his sea back.
His seeback movie poster.
And Jordan Davis.
So I look at those seven.
I go, yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
But sure.
The omission of Jake Elliott was a little surprising, but also, I mean, listen, I'm not going to sit here.
I actually thought in my guess, I thought that they were maybe moving Lane Johnson to like a Captain Emeritus status or something like that.
And he was not an official captain and Elliott kept his.
I don't know.
That was just my.
No, they weren't going to take it from Lane.
I think, honestly, if I look at the seven that they picked, I don't think you would take any of them off for Jake Elliott.
So that's about that.
And I think it's reasonable to, I mean, they could have.
at eight, I suppose.
We should ask Nick this week about, you know, what,
because he's talked before about the year that they had too many,
how do you decide on exactly, you know,
they've got five on offense and only two on defense.
Yeah, and it's not like they have a guy in here that is obviously a special
teams contributor that could be your special teams captain.
Like none of these,
I mean, Jordan Davis plays on some special teams units,
like the kickoff or the field goal unit, but none of these guys are special team.
But I do want to take a second to talk about Jordan Davis because he's the first time captain.
And I think we are not surprised by that at all.
but I want people to understand that his leadership is not just the smiling face and the energy that he brings every day.
Like there's real heft to it.
Yeah, I think he's become sort of a Brandon Graham-like figure in that locker room.
And that comes with the force of positivity and being, you know, somebody that can kind of bring the group up in terms of, like, energy.
But also I think there is a leadership component to it.
You know, we heard from Clinton Hurt last week, and he talked about how Jordan Davis has really stepped into a leadership role in that defensive tackle room along with Jalen Carter.
And I think those two guys, you hear a lot about, like, especially as we were in the lead-up to the contract extension, you heard a lot about Jordan Davis being really good for Jalen Carter.
You know, the dynamic there with the relationship that they have.
So, yeah, I think that there is a leadership aspect kind of reminds me of Brandon Graham and also kind of reminds me of Darius Slay, where just because they don't look and act like the conventional leader doesn't mean.
that they aren't leaders inside the building.
I think Jordan Davis is a really good example of that.
There you go.
Super chat.
Early on.
Out of the gate.
From GoBirds XTL.
Hot take.
Nolan Smith has more sacks than Jalix.
GoBirds XTL read my mind.
That's literally something I have in my show notes
as I was going to do a couple of who has more sacks.
You know, for the defensive line.
Do you want to do it now or do you want to,
do you want me to add that one to the list?
Why don't we do it now?
All right.
Just that one.
Between those two?
straight up.
I think Jalix Hunt's going to have more opportunity.
I think he's probably more of a late down edge rusher for this team right now.
But Nolan's,
he might get,
you know,
an early chance to pump up his numbers as Jonathan Grenard comes back.
I think there's a chance that,
you know,
there's a little bit of a misdirect here that everybody's focusing on Jalix
and, you know,
Boe Wolf,
you know,
oh my God,
we're trying to think like you.
And then Nolan Smith ends up having a slightly more productive season.
We've forgotten about Nolan Smith a little bit.
Bo Wolf effect.
He's getting the Bowulf bump.
but I would still put my money on jail.
I don't think that's a crazy take.
It's probably, you know,
I would put it like a 60-40 turkey split or something like that,
but I would still bet on Jalix.
I'd say 75-25,
but Fran, if he were here,
would probably say 50-50,
I had to guess.
Well, he's in the chat.
Yeah, Fran, you're in the chat.
He's not his burner.
Yeah, he says,
not my burner.
You know, could have fooled me.
That's because he says it's not his burner.
It doesn't mean it's not the burden.
I mean, the fact that he even felt compelled to say it tells you
it could be his burner.
I mean, listen,
the highest level we've seen either of those guys play
is the level that Nolan Smith played
at the end of the 2024 season.
Yeah, I mean, what's Nolan's career high right now?
Six and a half in 2024.
And Jaleks was probably the same.
Six and a half last year.
Yeah.
Yeah, but based off the summers they've had,
I'd still, I feel good about the 75, 25, 25 in favor of Jalick.
Okay.
So, yes, the conceit of today's,
show.
Yeah.
A little like pencils down, get some takes off that things that have about the eagles
have been ruminating in your mind that we haven't yet talked about, go on the record
with a couple of things.
I might close the show with our predictions for the season.
We'll see.
So, you know, buckle up.
Yeah, I got one I really want to get on record today.
Okay.
You know, I'm doing a lot of research on Devante Smith.
I'll have a piece up on all p.hoi.com later this week on Devante Smith.
You know, talk to his longtime trainer.
you're going to like this guy's name.
You're really going to like this guy's name.
Yo Murphy.
Yo Murphy.
It's a good name, right?
Oh, that's like what you hear at a bar 3 a.m.
At it like an Irish bar.
It was more Murph, but yeah.
Murph, okay.
Oh, Murph!
I like you, Yo Murphy.
Give me some good quotes about Devante.
They've been working together.
No, I have a question for you.
I have an inside baseball question for you.
Sure.
Yeah.
you're a little worried about telling people you have a story to come.
It's not yet published, revealing some of the people you talk to, given the competition level.
You think someone else is going to call Yo Murphy?
Shotgun a Devante Smith story to publish tomorrow morning to beat you to the punch.
There's a lot of great stories out right now.
And a few, you know, Johnny McGonigel, Ryan Novosinsky, I think is how it's pronounced.
He's new to the beat.
So I got to correct.
More like, right.
New Vizinski.
That's pretty good.
They've written good stuff about Devante.
So I feel like I'm probably last to market.
But yeah, I'm excited for, I'm excited for mine.
That's for last.
I wouldn't say that.
You don't have to.
Different one for last.
I got you.
I appreciate that.
Anyway, I figured we could tease it on the show.
We could talk about a couple things he said to me.
Yo.
He gave me a quote about Devante that I think Eagles fans will enjoy about the demeanor
that Devonte has.
And, you know, demeanor to better as far as I'm concerned.
Got a laugh from Lindsay on that one.
That was good. You're on a roll today.
Listen, you get four days off from doing the live show.
You come in, shot out of a cannon, baby.
Yeah, I do. I feel energized today.
I mean, week one, got a story, writing a story, a feature.
You don't always get, I don't always get a lot of chances to write features, so I'm excited
about that.
So anyway, Yo Murphy on Devante Smith, the mindset he has coming into the season.
He says, Smitty fools everybody with this quiet, chill demeanor.
Inside, there's the heart of a diva receiver banging in his chest saying, I want the ball
every time. All jokes aside, I think he's got a maturity and a respect for the team. So he goes out
there just lunch pail and does the job. Whatever they're going to ask him, he's going to be in a position
to execute it and do it. But he's not lacking one ounce of confidence. Whatever anyone says about his body,
he feels he's six foot five, 280 pounds. I like heart of a diva receiver beating inside
his chest, banging inside of his chest. You've heard this about Devante before, that he sometimes,
you know, AJ Brown got typed cast as the diva receiver.
AJ was,
yeah,
AJ very like,
not so suddenly,
like,
well,
hold of a second,
Devante's the one
that's the one
jogs more during games.
And you hear that
is that Devante is the one
that would be pretty passionate
about getting the ball
when his moments come.
And I just think it really coincides
something we've heard
all off season about Devante.
Aaron Moorhead said something similar
last week.
DeVante has always viewed himself
as a number one receiver.
He doesn't always get the chance
to be that.
He doesn't always get the chance
to show it.
But inside,
like,
you know,
the other thing,
you know,
Murphy said to me was, you know, if you gave him truth serum, it had to be a strong dose of
truth serum. But if you gave it to him enough, he would say, I'm the best receiver in the league.
And, you know, I think he's going to get an opportunity to really make a claim at that this
season. You know, the AJ Brown put a stamp on it. I think Devonte is going to get a chance
of that. So, yeah, it's going to be a huge season for him.
I don't ever want a wide receiver on my football team who doesn't deep down think they're
the best receiver in the NFL. Yeah, absolutely. You know what I mean? Yeah.
Somewhere in there, you might be misused.
You might, you know, you might know that you've never been given the right chance,
but you better believe somewhere that you're the best.
Yeah, it's, we talk about it a lot with defensive backs,
but with wide outs too, especially a guy who's going to have a lot of opportunity this year,
you want those guys to feel like I can beat anybody.
Like, I can get open against anyone.
The always open thing, like, that's, AJ was more open about it,
more like outward about it.
But I think Devante has the same mentality, it's just more inward.
And there, again, what Yo Murphy said about like the,
You really like your working.
Like what he said about the maturity and the discipline to not always express that
and not always make that a catching point, I think is good for Devante, but I think he's
going to get the chances here.
So I would put some numbers on it for Devante.
So I was looking through true media this morning.
I was looking at Target Share.
And I was looking specifically, well, I started looking at overall target share.
And do you want to guess where Devante ranks in that?
Overall target share.
Yeah, where he ranks.
And this is not, this is qualifying receivers.
I put it at receivers who had 60 catches or more last season.
Okay.
So high, highly productive receivers.
Including AJ Brown.
Yeah, there are 46 players in the sample.
I think he is 13th.
It's a good guess.
He's 12th.
Wow.
You want to guess AJ?
I am good.
You are good.
You're great.
AJ third.
No, AJ was actually 10th.
Oh, okay.
This was just last year.
Just last year.
Okay.
So Devante was at 24.4.
And then, again, let's look at the names that we have heard all offseason,
Puku Nakuwa and Jackson Smith and Jigba.
Jackson Smith and Jigba is at 35.8% target share.
Pukua, 28.6.
There were four receivers that were above 30%.
Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase, Amon Ross, St. Brown, and then J.S.M.
I think Devonte is going to have over 30% target share in the season.
That's my first prediction.
I think he's going to be top five.
let's call it, and over 30% in target share.
I think that's a good prediction. That's kind of what I expect too.
Yeah. Jalen Hertz has a history of like overtargeting the receivers he trusts the most.
It's a new look receiving core, only two guys from last season.
I think Devante is going to be Jalen's like security blanket this year, safety blanket.
And I think also he's just going to be heavily featured in this offense.
We didn't see it a lot because he was hurt for most of camp.
But Aaron Morehead said like when Devante came back in the lineup, it's like, all right, we can exhale.
Like this is what it's supposed to look like.
So I think he's going to get tons of opportunity.
I think there's a curiosity internally about what DeVante's numbers will look like
if he does get that opportunity.
Do you think he will also be their best big play receiver?
I think so.
Especially are you saying explosives or are you saying it's third and six and we need to have it?
No, I mean explosives.
I think he will.
I think the Hollywood Brown vertical stretch game is probably a little bit overstated.
No, but I think the idea behind Mackay Lemon is.
that he gets to be the security blanket.
Yeah.
And allowing Devante to be a little bit more explosive.
But I think he's probably not ready for that, at least early the start of the season.
So maybe Devante has to be both.
Yeah, Elijah Moore did have a lot of big plays in camp, but I think some of that's because
Michael M and DeVante were both out.
I think Devante will be the most explosive guy and he will be the most productive.
I think it's going to be like, you know, we've talked one A, one B for years.
I think he's going to be one.
He might be one and then two-way in some scenarios.
especially Dallas Goddard
didn't look quite as good this summer
as we thought he was going to
based off of past years
I think he's going to
I think he's going to be
a high volume receiver
like capital H,
high volume receiver
I think he's going to be
top four,
top five.
And again,
I think there's a...
I like the sound of that, man.
I think there's a real
intrigue about
what do his numbers look like
if he's up at that
if he's up that high.
And that's my second
put a stamp on it.
Okay.
I think he'll have
over 1,400
receiving yet.
Wow.
You're betting on the big one.
I'm going to go big.
We're doing bold predictions.
We're not doing tepid, safe predictions.
I want this to be a prediction that I can pull up four months from now and go,
I told you guys, Devante's going to have a big year.
I put numbers behind it.
Okay.
And now if this goes the way of your big prediction from last year,
Devante Smith will quit the team or?
Yeah, forces way to, uh, we're over the worst place.
Devante to be like to force his way to Atlanta to play with Tua for Jalen that might be the
worst um four context five receivers had 1400 yards or more last season so I think he's
going to be top five okay and receiving all right time for us to take our first break here on the
p.h.O my Eagles podcast more predictions on the other side let us know if you have any bold ones

Eagles podcast, Bo and E.J.
Did you see the statement that Jeffrey Lurie released today?
I see him.
I saw it was his birthday.
Yes, he said, uh, hello, I'm Jeffrey Lurie and I'd like to wish the 75th
happy birthday to Jeffrey Lurie.
That's not funny.
You know who else's birthday it is today?
My friend, Daniela.
Don Tassack.
Oh.
I have a birthday, Don Tassack.
Oh, no.
Please don't joke like that, Lindsay.
Oh, it's me.
That's birthday.
Well, meena and Jeffrey together.
And Don Toassic.
That is a power trio right there.
I'll throw Daniel on the bus.
Super chat from CDP.
Bold prediction.
Michael Clay is the head coach next season.
Next season.
Wow.
Now, CDP, you could make it that bold prediction and also say in the next five years.
I'd still give it to you.
I'm so bold.
He's getting putting them on the table.
That is a capital B bold prediction right there.
That's my thing today, I guess.
That's your capital T thing.
Really quick, can I tee up a graphic?
I cook that.
Capital Tee it up, baby.
So I wanted to show in my Devante Smith, you know, pounding the table.
Okay.
Just to put a bow on it here, put a capital B bow on it.
Devante Smith, his target share and his yards per route run with A.J. Brown off the field last season.
Obviously, a small sample size, but I think it shows that Devante is ready for
this type of role. If you look, he is toward the top middle of that group of receivers.
And, you know, I think that group to me, I would define as very efficient with a limited,
with probably a limited amount of opportunities relative to how efficient they are. So, you know,
I think the Eagles, as he gets further to the right of that graph, I think they expect him to
maintain that efficiency. And then, you know, JSN is in the top right there. I think that's
where they expect him to be closer to by the end of next season.
All right, there you go. We're going to hold on to that one.
This is not a prediction as much as something I want to talk through.
All right.
Which is some, I go back and forth, do you think that this, the summer matters?
Like what we see, does it actually press it to what we're going to see in the regular season?
And I think, you know, it's like anything else.
There are times where that is the case.
There are times when it's opposite.
Howie Roseman was talking the other day about how everybody was saying Nick Foles looked terrible.
you know, in the summer leading up
to the 2017 season.
And that was objectively, you know,
okay, and that's fine, that's true.
Was it? Is it true?
He was, yeah, he was bad that summer.
Okay.
And then obviously went on the most important heater
in franchise history.
But we are talking about the Eagles defense
as if it is a foregone conclusion
that they're going to be a top five defense
because the talent is loaded
and then we'll factor in Jonathan Grenard
whenever he gets involved.
but given what we saw this summer,
especially the secondary.
I think the defensive line was very good.
Yeah.
But either the Eagles offense is further along
than we were expecting,
or this Eagles offense,
which is still a bunch of new moving parts
and didn't have Devante Smith
and the Patriots when they went up there,
you know, the secondary was not great, was not.
Sure.
was not completely locked down on the back end.
And that was not just Rick Wullen.
That was Quignan at times.
That was Cooper Dijian at times as well.
Do we think that matters?
Yeah, it's a fair question.
My pushback would be they weren't like a success rate defense in training camp.
This is this is going to be real sick of stuff here.
They weren't like a down in, down out dominant defense and training camp.
But I would argue like you're not schemed up.
you're not schemed up against what you're going against in camp.
What they were was an opportunistic defense in training camp.
And the,
especially interceptions over,
like specifically.
And I think that that is encouraging.
They had like big plays this summer.
And that carried over in the joint practices.
I mean,
Rieck Wulin had a couple interceptions during the joint practices.
So for me,
I'm not so worried about how is this group going to look
when Vic Fangio is scheming up against an offense.
I think the fact,
that they were so opportunistic and you could flip it and talk about the Eagles offense and be like
they had problems with turnovers. I think that it depends on how you want to look at it.
But I'm not worried about the defense based off the fact that like the offense had a handful of
big plays. And generally it was probably just on schedule more than you would have expected them to be.
Yeah. I think this is one where I don't think you should be worried about the secondary. But this is one
where we might retrofit this one. Be like, oh, you know, morning signs we're there.
It'll be in, yeah, it'll be in November and the secondary is just okay.
And we'll be like, you know what?
They weren't that great in the summer either.
We should have known.
I think it's more realistic that in November we're talking about how great
my spreadger wins and fly teams were because I had the Patriots over.
I just think that Patriots receiving core is just really good.
And, you know, if you're going up against them, those guys in practice,
they're going to get theirs as much as you're going to get yours.
So I'm not worried by the joint practices.
The way they looked against the Eagles offense,
I think you have some merit there, but again, they were opportunistic.
Like, you know, each player had moments where you go, man, they are just so good.
Quinnia Mitchell had those moments.
Zach Bonn had those moments.
The front, as you said, overall, I thought looked really good all summer.
Rik Willen even had moments.
He had shaky moments too.
But I think you saw enough flashes from those guys.
And then you know that when Vic is in the booth, calling plays.
Yeah, I think that's right.
Trust that group.
Yeah, I still think that defense is going to be really good.
It's been a day for like the, you know, by the dip on the Eagles,
not even by the dip, but like, kind of like play the other side on the Eagles defense.
Why?
My former colleague Mike Sielski had a column out this morning.
And at Inquirer.com, shout out to Mike Sikilski.
Basically saying, like, this Eagles defense will be good, but they're not going to be great.
You know, they're not going to be like the greatest in franchise history.
Okay.
I mean, it's his column.
It's not my argument.
I think they're going to be really good.
All right.
What's your next one?
I got some San Juan predictions for you.
I've, you know, we've talked a lot on the show about the invigoration from the scheme that these guys are getting.
You know, these guys have been enlightened about a lot of things about the system, the under center aspect of it, the wide zone and duo combination that they've really leaned on this summer.
And I think as much as I do have a question mark specifically about Landon Dickerson's health this season, I feel good.
good about the offensive line overall, looking good in the system, feel good about what we saw
in camp from that group and also from Sequin Barclay. I think he looks like a guy who had extra
time to rest and rehab throughout the offseason. I didn't think he lost the step last year. I just
think it's about like juice that he has every day in practice. I think that's been the thing
that jumps out. So I don't even think this is a bold prediction. I think he'll have the second
best rushing total of his career. I mean, I like that. I can't invoke the 2024
season. Of course not. The perfect storm. But I think you have 1,400 rushing yards or more.
That is that his second. That would be second best by a little bit too.
I totally agree with this one. I think we said it last week. This is when we're like fantasy wise.
I am sort of befuddled by why he's like a second round pick in most leagues or whatever it is.
Like man, I think there's I think there's a really good chance that even more so than Devante,
I believe in this could be another monster year for Sequin.
Yeah, I mean.
I think if he stays healthy, I would say 1,400 yards.
1,400.
I mean, I think that would probably put him.
Here, let's see.
I got it right here.
I think if he stays healthy, he leads the league in rushing.
That's what I think.
Leads the league.
So that's probably 1,700.
Could happen.
If he stays healthy,
yeah, 1400 would have put him fifth right ahead, right ahead of Devon A chain
and right below Bejan Robinson.
I think, yeah, okay.
If he stays healthy, you could talk me into 1600 plus,
right around the league lead.
I could see it.
Okay.
But if you're saying that, I mean, you're lower on the defense.
If you're saying that you think the Eagles are going to be really good this year.
To me, if you think the defense is going to be elite and the run game is going to be elite,
that's been their formula.
They're going to lean on him.
That's the bigger thing to me.
Yeah, I think they will too.
And I think that's why I think they'll be a really good team.
We've spent so much time talking about the past game,
and I really don't know what to expect from the past game.
I feel like I do know what to expect from the run game and the defense.
And that's why I think they'll be really good this year.
Okay.
How good?
Oh, a little tease.
A little teasey tease.
So that you join us in 120 seconds when we'll be right back.

Yo, Murphy.
Back in the pitch on my Eagles show.
Well, and EJ, time now for the big take-y wiki.
Presented by Xfinity, the big takeaway.
Shout out Xfinity.
Shout out Xfinity.
What do you got?
I got a couple more predictions for you.
Quinion Mitchell.
I have floated this.
Oh, he's added.
What's he added?
What did you do this off season?
He has added interceptions to his game.
I'm going to pound the table and tell you he might have two interceptions.
I went three.
I went three.
I think we'll have three interceptions this year.
Which, if you add that to the elite coverage that we've seen from him in each of the last two seasons,
I mean, that's one of, if not the best corner in football.
So, yeah, I mean, we've talked about it a lot on the show.
Would you trade?
Would you trade?
Would I trade what?
Interceptions?
Three or four interceptions from Quinyon, but he's just a tinge worse, not worse,
a tinge less great in coverage on a down and down on a basis.
That's a fun question.
That is a fun question.
Like, would you rather have the variance?
Like, would you introduce the variance if it means you're not going to
get what I think is
Quinion Mitchell's
signature is that
football on a down-in
down-out basis.
He shuts off half the field
in a way that's really special
and intangible.
I probably actually would rather
have him the way he was last year.
Yeah.
I wouldn't want him like taking more risks
is really I guess the way that you would
quantify that.
Would you want him to give up
maybe two catches a game
because he's trying to get
an interception?
I don't know.
That's an interesting discussion.
There's probably like an
analytical argument here that I'm not prepared to make.
The most valuable thing a corner can do is take the ball away.
Yeah, but if he gives away an explosive a game trying to do it.
Yeah.
I probably would still, I'd take the like unsung, he shuts down half the field,
you know, shuts down the number one receiver.
Yep.
I think I would take that.
But I don't think this is a mutually exclusive thing.
And that is.
Yeah.
And I think he's done it.
It's a little bit stickier than interceptions.
Yeah.
But cornerback players volatile.
You know, I think, I said it before.
I think there's a very, very,
real chance that Quigion is, you know, not one of the three best corners in football this
year. He's more like one of the eight best corners in football this year. Yeah, it's just the nature
of the position. But again, the way he plays corner is a little bit more sustainable. It's not,
we're not talking like a Trayvon Digg scenario where it's like he's just the Asante Samuel,
you know, region where he's trying to sit on getting interceptions and making those splash plays.
I think what he's doing is actually more more, yeah, like I said, more sustainable,
especially in this defense
where they really play to his strengths as well.
Okay.
But I could only get to three.
I mean, it's not like I was going to go all out,
go for four or five or something like that.
Couldn't possibly do that.
It couldn't be that bold.
I mean, you know what?
How many do you think,
how many do you think Rick Wollin will have?
I had Rikwollen next.
I also have him with three.
That's it?
What do you mean?
That's it.
Come on.
The whole theory is that he's going to be
big play guy.
All right, fine.
You know what?
This is bold predictions.
Bold predictions.
Here's what I'm going to say.
You ready?
Quinion Mitchell and Rick Wullen
will combine
eight or more.
We'll say eight or more
interceptions this season.
But.
Quinn has to have at least two of those.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Like Quinyon's got to get to two,
but I think they'll combine to eight.
Okay.
You think Rick Wullen would have
six or seven interceptions on his own?
You know?
Seven interceptions and Quigionionion only has one?
No.
Come on.
I just, I just, they got to combine for eight.
Okay, that's a good one.
That's a bold prediction.
That's better?
Yeah.
We talked to,
you know it.
Six is like a little, it's a little tepid, tepid, tepid prediction.
That was a good, that was a good peer pressure.
That was, that six was like an italic prediction.
It wasn't a bold prediction.
Okay.
Let's close the book on the takeaway percent by Xenity.
I got a question for you on the other side.
There's no break here.
Yeah.
How do you feel about the use of italics and feature writing?
I'm asking for a friend.
Well, it depends.
I think you don't want to overuse it.
I do overuse it.
I like an italic.
Just as is it a quote?
Is it you inserting your own voice?
Yeah, I usually use them when I insert my own voice.
Now, I'm separating, you know, using, like,
sometimes you'll have a text or somebody thought to themselves
and you'll put that in italics to kind of separate it.
I'm talking just, like, really to put emphasis on one word.
Oh, I see.
Yeah.
You don't like it.
Yeah, I would save that for very special.
Oh, I like it.
You gotta use the tools in your toolbox, you know?
You can't be overdoing it.
You can't have more than one in a story, I would say.
But you know, you're writing the lead.
You're trying to cook a little bit.
I don't mind using an italic.
I mean, there are other ways to do that same,
to achieve that same result, though.
Oh, excuse me.
I like an italic.
Just every once in a while.
You're not going to like my lead for this Devante's story.
Yo, Marf.
But you might not like it.
You're going to make up your mind.
Do you like the Irishman or the,
the italics
I like them both
okay well
I guess I'll look forward to reading the story
see how many keep in there
oh there's only one
it's high up though
okay yeah
by the way
I was like working up
I'm working in my office this morning and it makes me
visualize this so I'm bringing it up on the show
if anybody out there
is like a veterinarian that
specializes in like dog dental care reach out to me i need help like i genuinely need help my big
p maddox he's got like um like a really really bad like root exposure does that does that mean anything to
you sure it's like very painful and it's like the worst experience like everyone knows like when
your dog gets old it's it's just like is a very sad thing like anytime that there's something wrong
with them you're like freaking out so i had to take him to the emergency event yesterday um because he's just
like he'll just be asleep on his bed and out of nowhere he'll just like shoot up and like shriek in
pain so we took him to the emergency vet got him checked out knock on wood seems like he's okay
but he's got like this dental issue so we take him for dentals like we take him to get you know
cleanings and everything he's got really an old dog he's got bad teeth um we tried like everything
so anyway if you're a veterinarian with dental experience with dogs reach out to me what is your
honest question like what is what is the what is the what is the
threshold for this is too much for him. Oh, I mean, the dental thing's not it, but there's a
threshold there. Yeah, I wouldn't want him to go, this is heavy now. I don't want him to go
through anything that's going to make him like really uncomfortable just for my own sake. I don't want
to be selfish about that. But hopefully we're not there. I'm not, yeah, hopefully you're not there.
Dental thing, I think is like a curable thing. But yeah, that's a real thing. Some people go through
more than I would probably be willing to go through for their dogs. Not.
I phrase that totally wrong.
Some people would be willing to put their dogs through more.
And I don't think I'd do that.
How much older is Big P then?
Maddox is 10. Big P.
Shout out Big P.
Pharaoh is six.
So Farrow, he's middle-aged.
But with Ridgebacks, they say every day after 10 is a gift.
So I'm trying to look at it that way.
I'm like going to be the worst.
Well, no, I'm going to be a good parent, but like the worst about this.
When Maddox is like sick right now, like I don't sleep well.
like I just sit there and just worry about them.
I'm sure it's going to be like 10 times that worse.
I'm curious to see how the,
how Franz,
uh,
foretelling of he's the dog.
They turn into the dog.
Yeah.
Interesting.
How that works out for you.
Yeah.
I mean, again,
now we're really just like heavy talking about dogs.
They just like spend so much their life,
so much of your life with you.
Mm-hmm.
That they become like,
they really do.
They become like family.
So I'm not going to,
I'm not emotionally prepared to talk about this.
Yeah.
Lindsay got any thoughts?
I love my dog the same as I did before my kids.
Especially now that they like play with the dog.
It's cute.
My dog's like easy.
Like he doesn't do anything.
Maddox doesn't either.
That's why this has been like not not fun.
See,
the only time I get annoyed is if he like does like bark in the middle of the night
or when they're sleeping.
I'm like,
we can't be waking them up.
That's the only time I'm like me and Eric are like,
you want to go?
Is that the front door?
You could just leave?
Yeah.
Hmm.
Okay.
Hopefully he's, well, he's doing better now.
We got him some, uh, some meds.
So he's chilling.
I remain very confused about big P, not being the dog whose name starts with P.
Pharaoh's name doesn't start with P either.
He's, uh, he's named after the Farrow Islands.
We adopted it.
That's right.
We didn't name him.
Um, I mean, it's a good name.
Pharaoh is like, he just loves everything, man.
That guy.
If he ever ran away, we'd never see him again.
Like he would find another family so fast.
The schedule for the rest of the week, just so everybody knows, we got BG, the premiere of

What other predictions
do you have
on your docket?
I actually just have questions
for you.
Make you put you in the hot seat.
Some bold predictions here.
Who has more sacks?
Jalen Carter
or Morrow Adjomo.
Jalen Carter.
You know what?
I think there's reason. I can understand
the reason for Morrow.
Gailen Carter is going to get the attention.
Morrow was very capable.
Morrow had six last year.
Six and a half, I think.
He had more than five and a half,
which was my bold prediction last year.
Because I think Hunt Jaleks led the team with six and a half,
and I don't think he tied.
I don't know that I see Morrow going many more than that.
Contract year.
I think he's going to get paid a lot of money, yeah.
But I am willing to believe that this is the year we see,
Jalen Carter have his career high in sacks.
I'll take the other side.
I think I do believe that.
I mean, they're both of their career high as six.
I agree.
I think that Jalen Carter is probably going to be somewhere between,
I'd say Jalen Carter will probably be at eight sacks by the end of the year.
That's my prediction.
I think Morrow could get there.
I think you can at least match him.
I think contract year Morrow, he's going to be looking for those stats.
So I'm going to, I would have probably said Jalen Carter if you had said Morrow Ojomo.
I'll take the other side.
Most likely.
two teammates on the defensive line to fight over
who gets credit for a sack
with the league office.
Morrow is definitely one of them.
I don't know if Jalen Carter would care enough about stats.
I don't think it would be Jalen.
I think it would be Morrow and...
I could see that. Oh, that's a good one.
Yeah, I think that those are the two.
That is a good one. I think that's probably what it is.
Yeah. Or could it like an AJ?
I wouldn't put JLex above it.
Yeah, I mean, Jailix
Probably also like, I got to get paid too.
Yeah.
AJ and Vanessa might be a sneaky one.
He's feisty.
Yeah, maybe.
I think it's Morrow and Nolan, though.
I think that's right, too.
Yeah.
I could see that.
Honestly, it's probably already happened.
Yeah, like a locker room fight in particular.
I can see that.
Okay.
That's fun.
All right.
What do you got next?
Another, we're going to have a couple editions of the Who Has More Sacks.
Jalix Hunt or Jonathan Grenard?
I'm going with Jalix.
Hmm.
I mean, the Grinard thing is,
is one of the great unknowns about this season heading into it
because he could be step in and be an elite edge rusher
and completely turn them into just a violent dominant unit.
Yeah.
We could be, this could be a lost season where we're bemoaning
that he didn't get to practice all summer
and, you know, never got comfortable with Vic.
And year two is when we're really going to see the real Jonathan Grenard.
Obviously, there's a wide middle in between those two things.
but you know he only had two and a half sacks last year
there's no guarantee that he's you know a double-digit sack guy here
and I'm I as the president and founding member of the
Jalick's Hunt is a very very good player organization
I got an organization not like a it's an organization organization
capital C I got to back my guy capital C
the capital C community could have been a community
So how many sacks are we talking for Jailix Hunt?
Put a number on it.
Let's go with a number.
You want to see the season totals from last year?
Nope.
Oh, all right.
Felix Hunt is going to have 10 and a half sex.
Oh, that's a little lukewarm.
Josh Wett had 12 last year.
Byron Young had 12, not the Eagles, Byron Young.
Micah got hurt via 12 and a half.
Micah Morris?
Micah Parsons.
Michael Morris having 12 and a half sacks would be
Not great for the Eagles.
I mean, it'd be great for the Eagles if he did it for the defense.
Will Anderson only at 12 last year.
Do you get hurt?
Now he was healthy.
Only at 12, I guess.
It was maybe a little bit of an overstatement.
This to some Miles Garrett guy at 23.
Heard him.
I think 10's a little, like, are you going to lead the community or not?
The capital C community?
All I do is say the truth.
This bold prediction.
10 and a half.
I'm going to say 12.
I'm going to give it.
him.
I can't what?
Fine.
Go ahead.
Francis, E.J., your hot take was kind of, it was three intercepted.
Not two.
Not two.
It was three.
It was three.
And I talked myself into four because of bold predictions day.
I'll say 12.
I'll say he will have as many as Josh Swett had last season.
Okay.
What's Josh Swett's worst season?
Like, he had eight in 2024.
That defense was so good, though.
Six and a half.
11 in 2022.
12 is probably high.
That's okay.
11.
My final answer is like,
you can't just go bold on every single one.
Yeah, sure I can.
That's fine.
This show won't exist in the future
if I don't want it to.
Nobody's going to go back and be like,
remember EJ said he was going to have 12 sacks?
What are you going to do?
Delete it from the archives?
Yeah, me and Lindsay, we'll work it out.
I mean, I can't do that.
I can't do that.
I can ask Lindsay to do it.
Okay.
Shout out Lindsay.
You know what I was thinking about just looking at the roster?
Yeah.
This is, it feels like, and this thought didn't occur to me until too soon before the show for me to actually go back and do the research to compare it to past years.
Okay.
But it feels like there's more roster turnover with this roster than we are necessarily used to in recent years with Howie Roseman.
Just in terms of like how many new faces are on the team.
Yeah.
Yeah.
On the 53 men roster, there are 16 guys who were not in the building.
in any way last year.
So not even including your E.J. Jenkins's.
There are six rookies who made the team.
And 10 veterans.
And the 10 newcomer veterans feels a little bit high.
I mean, some of these are guys like Andy Dalton and Jonathan Jones
who are not necessarily going to be big factors in the team.
But there's three new wide receivers.
Yeah.
Be a boy Johnny Munt, who's holding the entire offense together.
Just by twine.
you've got Rie Gwollen,
you've got three new edge rushers led by Gronard.
I don't know.
It's a little bit of something to just monitor.
Yeah, it is interesting.
Like, because I had a similar thought this morning
thinking about the turnover at the receiving core
in general.
I guess I, and like, it kind of stuck up on us a little bit.
I guess I can't say it stuck up on us,
but they progressively turned that room over.
And then you look up and it's like,
oh, there are only two guys
from last year.
And you start to think, I mean, I guess it really is representative of just how broken
the offense was last season.
And then on the defensive side, I think it just, you have to balance it out with, you know,
low-cost contracts.
And then obviously they traded for Jonathan Grenard to replace Jalen Phillips.
But I do agree that it's a little bit more turnover than you would have expected for a team
that has been as successful as they've been.
Yeah.
And the veteranness of it is, again, I got to actually compare it.
But it feels especially anti-Hawie
because I think part of what they usually do is,
okay, like this is our culture, this is what we do.
We bring people along,
and then you have to be a little bit more selective
about who you bring in to that.
But I...
It's interesting.
I kind of feel...
I can't put my chest out on this
because I have to actually make sure
that I'm not being inaccurate.
Yeah, I mean, they probably didn't replace
as many starters on offense as you would have.
Like, if we rewound all the way
to the beginning of the offsy,
season. Like, let's say the day that they fired Kevin Petullo, I probably, I mean, maybe I'll go
back and find it in the show. Probably said that this is just the first of many changes this
offense will need to make. It didn't make a ton of changes, but around the periphery they did
and at receiver they did. So yeah, I think honestly it probably isn't as much change on offense
and then defensively, I mean, what, it's two new starters from last year. It's Grenard and
Rieckwollen. Yeah. Yeah, that wouldn't have surprised me. Offensively, I think I probably would
have expected more change though.
I would have probably thought maybe they move on from Goddard and they draft a tight end
high in the draft, although he took Eli Sowers early.
He's not going to factor in as much.
But yeah, the turnover is also interesting that there are several holdover replacements
from like mid-season last year, like Tank Bigsby, Michael Carter, Marcus Epps, these guys
who became backups but then are now in different roles.
Yeah, yeah, Chad Campbell.
different but similar.
So yeah, I mean,
it is a little bit more turnover
than you would have thought
given that this team's a thing
that I will add to this is
you know, we did the superlatives last week
and we didn't get to like
mid-season storyline
that we are not yet talking about
and one that does occur to me
is there is a chance
that middle of the season
we're talking about
and I don't want to be too negative
but you know
howie's draft heater is over.
Yes.
If, you know,
Jihad and Makuba,
don't take that leap forward,
and Mikhail Lemon is slow starting,
and Eli Stowers is a game day inactive,
like, okay, well, those were the days.
Yeah.
You could rely on your first and second round picks
to be impact players.
That's a great point,
because I was about to say,
well, we already kind of had this conversation
with Mackay Lemon and Eli Stowers,
not necessarily hitting the ground running,
but to add Jihad Campbell and Andrew McCuba in there as well,
I do think that that is like a really good point.
Like they might not get impact play from their top two rounds, their top two picks.
We'll see.
We'll see how it looks.
I think there's reason to be optimistic about Campbell and Maccuba.
My honest opinion is that I think Jehad's going to be very good.
Yeah.
I think Maccuba will be fine.
You know, maybe slightly above fine.
I think he's going to be like a high variance player.
I think you'll have moments where he really makes an impact and they'll probably have
moments where, you know, he's a little bit less reliable.
But yeah, the offensive guys, I don't think it's going to be...
Even McKay-Levin, I think it's going to take him some time to settle in.
So, yeah, I think that's a good point.
We'll see.
All right.
When I say how you think this season's actually going to play out?
Yeah, this is always tough because, like, you can be optimistic about the team.
You can think they're going to be great.
But winning the Super Bowl is hard.
And if you don't think they're going to win the Super Bowl,
that's all anybody's going to take away from it.
So I think that this team will be very good.
I think they will win the division.
I think it will probably be a lower win total
than you would envision to win the division
because I think them and the Cowboys
will probably cannibalize some of these games.
I think they'll go 11 and 6.
And I think they're going to make the NFC championship game.
What are they, the three seed?
Let's call it, yeah, let's call it the three seed.
Okay.
Home playoff game to open it up.
I think they'll make the NFC championship game
and I think they will lose to a team from the NFC West.
So realistically, either the Rams are the Seahawks.
If you made me pick, I'd probably pick the Rams.
Okay.
I think the Rams are going to be the type of team that struggle early on, actually,
because it just is a lot of moving pieces, a lot of star power.
And I could see the Rams being a total flop,
but it's a talented team.
I think if they make it into the playoffs,
they'll be the type of team you don't want to play.
So for that reason, I think the Eagles are probably,
again, make it to the championship game.
Not make it to the Super Bowl.
Okay.
It's a good year.
I'm about to say it's like, people will be like, oh, boo, E.J.
The Rams think I'm going to say that.
Yeah, I think they will be a very good team.
Yeah.
Okay.
I think the offense is going to be better than expectation.
Okay.
I think they're going to be like a 7 to 11 in the league on offense.
And they're going to be pretty good.
I think it's going to take a little.
bit of time, but I'm buying
Sequin having a monster season.
Jalen looking more comfortable.
Devante having a big year.
And I think they will be good on offense.
I think the defense will be maybe a touch worse
than we're expecting, more like the sixth best defense
in the league.
Okay, yeah.
Than the top three defense.
I think they're going to be good.
I think this is a 12 win.
team.
However,
vibes-wise,
I have to subtract
a win
for Jalen going to the goatee.
No doubt about that.
Okay, fair.
Only fair.
If he keeps the stash,
if he shows up,
if the goate,
this is a misdirect,
and he shows up for week one
with the stash,
the Eagles are going to win the Super Bowl.
Okay.
Done.
If he keeps the goatee,
you can get to knock him down a peg.
Okay.
I also have to take out a win
just because of some of the things
I heard at the Ospreys,
some untoward things about
reserve tight end on the roster.
Nothing illegal, nothing illicit,
just some, you know,
not the kind of thing that you like.
Okay.
So this is this team that wins a division at 10 and 7.
10 and 7, okay.
But wins the division.
And they lose the divisional round.
To who?
find out
oh
in Dantanahsack time
you'll like that
um
I'll say the Packers
just so people get mad
the Packers
did you a little higher on the Packers
you had they're over right
they're over yeah
and I think I threw the flag
took the under
they might be like a feisty
playoff team
I could see it
Manion Bowl
now if
in my scenario
I think Jalen Hertz can return as the quarterback.
Like, I think that he could be the long-term answer to make it to the
championship game.
He could return?
Yes.
How generous of you.
In your scenario.
Oh, how nice of you to say that the defense.
I mean, listen.
The Super Bowl MVP.
This is you being.
Oh, you know what?
This is you being a little bit pedantic.
I guess we'll have you for another year, Jaylen.
You got it.
You got it to the other.
I spent 60 minutes giving a game.
Bold predictions being definitive about everything.
And I couch something a little bit because it's the first time I'm really good.
If mine plays out, I guess they could have Jaylen back.
So fanatic.
I mean, I literally like, you know, well, you know, I guess that could be a personality trait of mine.
But I could just be effusive about everything that I say instead of just like thinking through something.
Yeah, if they make a Tennessee championship game, I think Jalen will still be their answer long term of quarterback.
In yours, I'm not as convinced.
Another division win and a playoff win?
Jeffrey Lorry has had high expectations before.
I don't.
I'm not saying I don't think he would be back as Eagles quarterback.
I think that it's 60 turkeys.
I would, in my scenario, I think he's back.
You said they were a top seven offense.
There are a 12-win team.
They only wins 10 games.
If they're a top seven offense, I think that's the case.
Although, honestly, like, how the playoff game plays out, I think that that will matter.
Yeah, I'm sure.
Of course it does.
I said 60 turkeys, he's back.
Okay.
I don't think it's like, oh, he's definitely out.
Do you think, do you give any, we've talked about this before,
but do you give any turkeys to a Mannion flip?
As head coach.
Yeah.
Yes.
I do.
12 turkeys.
I'll give it 12 turkeys.
Yeah.
I think if they are a top, let's call it a top eight offense,
they're very, very good on offense.
And they make, in my scenario, let's say, they make it to the NFC,
I have to see championship game, everybody's back.
It's just, that's just, it's too deep.
If they have like an uninspiring division around loss
where the situation of football is bad,
I don't think it's likely,
but I think I could see a scenario where it is,
like Mannion's getting head coach interest,
and the only way to keep him is make him the head coach.
I wouldn't say there's a non-zero percent chance of that happening.
It's weird to talk about it.
I just think that, yeah, I think the needle threading of that,
scenario is a little bit smaller.
But yeah, divisional round.
I mean, I don't know.
You beat like a Mickey Mouse team in the wild card round.
And then you lose in the divisional round.
And it depends on how you lose.
It shouldn't, but it does.
I think it's more like the defense is just kind of mid.
Vic retires.
It's clear that this is kind of a,
like a reset moment.
A reset moment.
Maybe they missed the playoffs, but the offense is better than expected.
or, you know, they're one and done.
That's kind of, and even then,
I'm putting, like, four turkeys on that.
Okay.
I don't know.
I'm fine with 12.
If the offense is awesome this year,
I think they're going to have to make an interesting choice
if Sean Manning gets interest from elsewhere.
You kind of probably hope that his age will keep him
from getting a ton of head coaching.
Like the eagle should really lean into it, like on game day,
like, put him in a little sailor boy outfit.
This guy still drives the car he had in college.
They should do something like that.
Shaw Beggie, not old enough to drink,
but old enough to call plays or the NFL.
I like your commentator voice.
That's good.
You're like that.
All right.
Let us know your predictions in the comments.
I want to hear them.
Let us know.
They better be bold.
Give us your boldest prediction
and tell us your Eagle's prediction.
Lindsay, you got any bold predictions?
What's higher?
Quinion Mitchell's Interceptions.
or Jets wins.
Oh, that's a good one.
Jets wins.
Okay.
I got to be positive for my life.
Ever the Oculus.
Jets optimism.
I'm here for it.
I like Aaron Glenn.
I'm rooting for Aaron Glenn.
Aaron Glenn Foley.
You're not getting that anywhere else.
All right.
For the H.J.Y. Eagles podcast.
We're back tomorrow, baby.
Little Mannion deep dive with the professor
and the Fran Man for E.J. and Lindsay, it's good to be back.
Football week we're going to hear from the players and Nick Siriani tomorrow.
Yep.
All kinds of stuff.
Mina Kimes joins the show.
That's all we got.
As always, we love you.
