Starting point is 00:00:00 The PHLY Eagles show on a beautiful Monday afternoon. We are here at Penn Oaks Golf Club at the Brian Dawkins charity golf event. I've got Zach Berman to my left. I've got Jamie Lynch all the way over there to the far left. I'm Bo Wolf. We are excited to be here. Some Eagles news today. Some stuff to unpack from the news on Friday.
Starting point is 00:00:21 We will hear from Brian Dawkins himself in the middle of this show. We'll talk to Trey Thomas as well. Maybe some other surprises along the way. Gentlemen, how you doing? Doing great. Excited for the show. Great to be here. I feel like I'm sandwiched between two golfers here. Well, so I'm out of...
Starting point is 00:00:36 Take us through. Tell us through this was a tough morning for you. You had some decisions to make. Take us, takes the audience through what the morning was like from your perspective. I was up early. I was reading the headlines. I was writing a story. But then as I was getting... You're standing there, boxers on, and you're shaking with confusion.
Starting point is 00:00:54 What do I do? What do I do? I don't golf. Okay? So I didn't know the entire last year I was. I wore jeans and I felt out of place. But you were coming for, importantly, you were coming from the Eagles facility. I was coming from press conferences.
Starting point is 00:01:07 But so I, I didn't want to be. When you had a shirt on. That's good. Yes, yeah. I didn't want to be out of line here. So I, or, you know, you want to blend in with your, with the people here. So, yeah, I'm wearing, like, former khakis.
Starting point is 00:01:23 Former khakis? A form of khakis? Oh, a form of khakis. A form of khakis. What were they in the previous? A form of khakis. Reformed khakis. No, they're like, um, uh, they look a little stretchy.
Starting point is 00:01:37 Is that the, they're athletic. Atleisure khakis. But, but they're khaki presenting. Kaki presenting, well said. And then a quarter zip, I brought a coward shirt with me in case I needed, in case I need to change into a coward shirt. So I just wanted to make sure that, you know, I could fit in as much as possible, um, went here. Well, golf attire has changed.
Starting point is 00:01:58 changed over the last couple years. It's true. It's a big deal. Yeah, we saw Mike Quick in the very nice quilted country club hoodie. Now the hoodie has been accepted by the golfing. The light hoodie, which you would have thought was like totally out of bounds even as recently as five years ago,
Starting point is 00:02:14 I would say. Absolutely. It's funny you say that because I wanted to go hoodie today. You know, I went outside at 7 a m. At 7 a.m. this morning was cold and I wanted to go because I had the cower shirt. I don't know why we're getting into this at the top. I had the coward shirt on and then I was like, We're like, this is overtime talk.
Starting point is 00:02:29 I was like, I need some, you know, I need some long sleeves here. It's a little chilly out. And then I was like, can you wear a hoodie on a golf course? And so then I... Imagine they kicked you out? I went quarter zip instead. Yeah. So as long as it's not like, there is a line with the hoodie, right?
Starting point is 00:02:46 But like it kind of has to be athletic-e country clubby. It can't be like, you know, Philadelphia 76ers, there's Alan Iverson, you know. Gotcha. It needs to be like the material of your green shirt last week. Not really. No, not necessarily. But yeah, I mean, it's like if it's made by like a golf brand. Yeah. Then you're in good shit.
Starting point is 00:03:06 All right. Zach, we have big news on this Monday. The Eagles have made a transaction. We have crossed over the June 1st barrier. What is the move that they have made? Well, so the signing that they made today was Marcus Tate. Marcus Tate and offensive lineman from Clemson, the alma mater of Brian Dawkins, who's golfed home run we are at, of course.
Starting point is 00:03:25 And listen, you know what? You can take your shots at us as, journalists, but I do have to say we did drop the ball. We did not ask Doc about Well, it happened before. We spoke to Brian before the Marcus Tate News came out. You don't have to give that away. I mean, come on. Otherwise, I promise you, I would have said, what's your evaluation of Clemson's left guard last year? But no, in all seriousness. Was that the rookie tryout? He was at the rookie tryout. He started 30 plus games at Clemson. But you mentioned the June 1st component. That's relevant for a few reasons. My guess
Starting point is 00:03:57 is when the transaction log comes out tonight. Okay, so 5 o'clock. I'm sure you'll see it on my social media. Brandon Graham. Yeah. Brandon Graham, who's here in golf attire? He will, his retirement will officially be announced. So we'll see that also of note that.
Starting point is 00:04:18 Here's what I'll predict on that front. Yes. Well, actually, let me ask you. One of two things will happen. The Eagles will themselves announce the transaction. that Brandon Graham has officially retired. Or you will be the one to have scoured the wire when it comes through. And you will be the one who says his retirement was officially processed.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Credit Zach Berman. First of all, I won't be asking for credit. No, you won't be asking. You'll be demanding. No, I won't do that. But maybe just maybe you cut the transaction log a certain way to see if anyone takes your screenshot, right, or something like that. Right. Someone borrowing your money.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Spicy. I like that. You misspell something in there to say, yeah. Dirty trick. Yeah. But no. Brennan, so that, and then of course, Friday show, which once we get into the conversation, I have a Mia Colpo to say about Friday show.
Starting point is 00:05:15 But that trade can be processed now this week in the upcoming days, that Bryce Huff trade. There you go. Marcus Tate, you don't have anything, nothing there. I have very little. Do you have anything on Marcus State? No, I got nothing on Marcus Tate. Okay. Now, the other bit of news today, I feel like you're going to have a take on this, Jamie. All right.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Sequin, the cover of Madden. Yes. Are we worried? Fold the season? No. I am not worried at all. If you had gotten me prior to 2018, I would have said the sky is falling. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:48 The earth is going to eat itself. We're all going to implode here. It may have already happened. Yeah, well, maybe. This could be a simulation. We're in. The Eagles now have two Super Bowls, and the fatalistic negadelfian in me has died. So I see this Madden cover, and I go, this is great. This is awesome. This is not a curse anymore. Nothing can phase me. You okay with that, Zach? My son will be excited. I know that. I know that's right. Apparently, I can show you messages from him. Is this the Madden cover? Is this the Madden cover? He falls for all these things.
Starting point is 00:06:23 I swear on, I'm going to show you guys this, okay? Look, is this the Madden Cover? Maybe these two. Is this the Madden? I was like, Bo Nix is not on the Madden Cover. That's great. So he's going to be pumped to see the bad cover. Much to Anthem's chagrin.
Starting point is 00:06:44 But, no, the reality is this. It's similar to, like, Jason Kelsey explaining why it's hard to, or why that Super Bowl hangover exists. It's simply hard to get back to the Super Bowl. If you're on the Madden cover, it's typically because you had this historic season the year before or something like that, such as Christian McCaffrey last year.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Or you're Peyton Hillis. Or your Peyton Hillis. Which is still the most strange cover ever. But for him that was a historic season, right? And then it's hard. It's hard to match the year. Peyton Hillis ain't having that season again. So look, I've been saying now on this show,
Starting point is 00:07:19 on Anthony's show, it's hard to see Sequin match the numbers that you had last year. Actually, I'm hoping that we get it. Oh, it's a regression is natural. Yeah, I'm hoping we get a chance to catch up with Brian Westbrook today because Brian Westbrook's
Starting point is 00:07:32 2007 season was similar, like, touches-wise, during the regular season to what Sequons was last year. It's just hard to have that type of year again. So if Sequin doesn't have a comparable season, it's not because he was on the Madden cover, it's because it's hard to replicate that. But he's the first eagle on the map. Madden cover since.
Starting point is 00:07:52 Michael Vick. No. No, Michael Vick was not all with the Eagles. Donovan McNabb. Yeah. Matt in 06. That was the Tyson's ankle break the next year? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:01 I believe so. I think he did. I think there was a part of the curse. I think there was a time when there was a little bit more to the rock. Oh, there was a six-year stretch in like a row. Yeah. It was a while. Now, do you think you will be able to do the reverse hurdle in the game?
Starting point is 00:08:13 Yeah, they added it in last year. Yeah, they added it in last year. Oh, they added it live. Yeah. Yeah. They added it in. That's how big it was. On the exciting mics, they talked about how, like, you know, this play was so good that they had to put it in a video game because they literally couldn't think of it before.
Starting point is 00:08:29 But I have not executed it in the game I've had with Reed yet, but I'll have to see the controls. How is the gameplay these days? Because the last time I tried to play a mat and just, like, it's two different, two different. I mean, I'm just an old cranky guy. I mean, it is. It is. Two unwieldy. It is awesome.
Starting point is 00:08:48 It's awesome. Same thing. I mean, college football is so much fun as well. I played Reed in MLB the show over the weekend. That's hard. Yeah, man, I swing too early every time. It's hard. It's hard.
Starting point is 00:08:59 And then I was, yeah, I lost the knees in, he had a big eighth inning. It was tough. You sound like you're really hurting from that loss. Well, I mean, I said, let's go play chess. And then I beat him in chess. So, wow. Yes. You needed that.
Starting point is 00:09:15 It looks like the last injury related was 27. when Gronk went down shortly after being on the cover. Well, Christian McCaffrey was on the cover last year. Oh, I thought, according to the CSPN article, was Josh Allen. Was Alan left? That was 24. 25 was. Yeah. So Christian McCaffrey didn't work out well for him.
Starting point is 00:09:31 But it has been a little bit of a run. Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen. Yeah. I don't think there's, I don't think the curse is like real anymore. Well, speaking of not working out very well. Didn't work out very well for Price Huff in Philadelphia is that. What a transit. That's why you're about social city.
Starting point is 00:09:45 That's what you get paid the median bucks for. Unnecessary Instagram posts on the. the way out. He posted him and an eagle's like athletic shirt in the locker room with just like the peace sign. I was just like it's fine. It was harmless but I'm like you really need to do that. He kind of failed.
Starting point is 00:10:01 He's saying goodbye. First of all, I made a few words to begin with. Okay. And look I don't think he did you know he came here in earnest. They gave him a big contract. It wasn't the right fit. Sometimes you go to an employer and it's not the right fit. That's the reality of it. So
Starting point is 00:10:16 yeah, he's I think he's a better fit with the 49ers, but I did want to correct something. A few things to get to here, but give us your... Trying to block the wind picks up on the mic. So if you see me doing this, I'm not being too weird. I'm trying to block the win. You're allowed to be weird. I did say in the YouTube, because there was a YouTube commenter who said,
Starting point is 00:10:37 I got the cap implications way wrong. And yeah, that is correct. So I apologize. I stand corrected. I went with... And I cited the information at the time. There was a tweet out from ESPN. about what the cap implications were.
Starting point is 00:10:50 From somebody who's usually very good. Yeah, and that was misleading. And so credit to Over the Cap, Jason Fisher from Over the Cap. And then also Jake Rosenberg, who I assume negotiated that contract. He was part of it. He was still in the building at the time.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Really, the cap savings is not $15 million this year. They open up $2 plus million in cap space this year. And then they take a big cap hit next year as well because of the post-June 1st, which we did mention on the show how it split over two years. The big deal here for the Eagles is the cash savings. They save about $7.5 million or thereabouts in cash, and that can be allocated to their operating budget. This year. Well, they have no cash obligations beyond this year because the contract is only guaranteed for two years.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Do you think that this was the thing that they were counting on in order to make room to pay Dallas Goddard when they told us before that they weren't going to be able to afford him? Or do you think it's just none of that was necessarily true? Well, no, I do think it's like any of us who have household budgets, right? A dollar in, you know, if you spend a dollar here, it comes from some... If you got to buy the expensive card... It comes from something else. ...anniversary card, then all of a sudden, you know, there's...
Starting point is 00:12:05 If you're spending $7 on the anniversary card and you budgeted $3 on it, that $4 needs to be made up somewhere, right? You went for the big $7 card this year, huh? Well, Beau shamed me into it. Yeah, I said I'm going to... It was his anniversary card. I was going to go to five below. How do you feel about that? It's what you write inside the card that matters, right?
Starting point is 00:12:25 I think I'm on both side on that one. Come on. No. All right. I'm going to defend myself. I don't know their card selection. Well, for all husbands out there. Is it decent?
Starting point is 00:12:38 What matters more? Let me ask this. What matters more? The message you write or the message hallmark writes or what's it, papyrus or rights? You get a blank card. You're spending $7 on a blank card? Pretty much. In that case, I can just use my stationery, right?
Starting point is 00:12:56 But, no, you know, you get one that has the meaningful message, but then you write around it, and I totally outdo the hallmark message. So, yeah, it's your words that matter most. You're getting just a nice thing to look at. Like, you know, you're going to... That's the flowers. That's the... Yeah, that's the present.
Starting point is 00:13:17 Flowers die. The card's forever. Listen, you want to get, you know, you want to get your son turning eight years old a card at five below. Go ahead. I feel like, I feel like the mother of your children who runs the household deserves a little bit more. She's also the one who's going to recognize that this is a cheap, flimsy card you've bought.
Starting point is 00:13:35 She knows who she married. All right, so, Zach, post-Bress-Huff. Yes. We talked about on Friday, you know, how worried you are about the state of the edge pressure position. Do we think they're going to add there? You've got Nolan Smith. You've got Jelixant at the top. That seems pretty good, but not guys so that you can necessarily count on playing 75% of the snaps. You've got Aziz O'Jalari, who on paper would be helpful, but he's got a proof he can stay healthy. You've got Josh Ushay, same thing to an even greater degree.
Starting point is 00:14:05 You've got Antoine Powell Riland, a six-round pick. Anything you get out of him would be nice. You've got potentially Jahad Campbell factoring in there. Maybe some of the guys inside can flex outside? Maybe Patrick Johnson has some kind of rejuvenation, but it seems like they are a little bit light there relative to what we are used to at that position. Do you think they will add? And if so, where might that person come from? I do think they're going to add. And I don't think they're finished. I think the profile you're more likely to see is the ring chasing veteran. So Zadarius Smith, I'm curious what you guys think is Zadarius Smith. Von Miller still out there. Von Miller has experience with Vic Fangio. On Anthony's show this morning, VG asked me about
Starting point is 00:14:43 about Trey Hendrickson in a trade, it would surprise me if the Eagles went in that direction. That would knock my socks off. If they gave up, because, you know, the reason why Trey Hendrickson would be traded is because he wants big money. I don't think the Eagles are ready to do that there. If the Eagles and, you know, you have to give up a valuable draft pay. If the Eagles were to make a trade,
Starting point is 00:15:03 I'm not saying this is something that I've heard. I'm just saying this is the type of player to watch to me would be like Trayvon Walker in Jacksonville, someone who... He's a bulldog, right? Played at Georgia. number one pick. Fits the bill there.
Starting point is 00:15:15 Has all the traits you could want and hasn't signed that long-term extension yet. You know, had his, so it's more something like that than he's very close to, you know, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith, J. John Carter. So it's someone like that that I think you would be more apt to be, if they were to give draft inventory, an ascending player as opposed to trading draft capital
Starting point is 00:15:39 for someone who is kind of like a third contract player. Yeah, Trayvon, are only 24 years old still. I feel like that's a tough time. I feel like that's a tough way. I mean, that fits the mold of age. The University of Georgia. Now, look, it's probably
Starting point is 00:15:55 because you would want to sign them to an extension, I assume. But, but no, I think more likely the profile is your Zadarius Smith Von Miller type. Von Miller would make sense to me in that he's played. He's played for Vic Fangio before, right?
Starting point is 00:16:11 And so, like, it wasn't, well, I would defer to the NVR crew that we have. And what Vic Fangio says about what that fit was like. But I've read Vic Fangio's comments about Von Miller. The usage was not nearly like what Bryce Huss was, right? Von Miller played a role, an important one, in that defense. Zedaria Smith, he's going to be 33 this season. The good news is he's played a lot.
Starting point is 00:16:37 He hasn't really been banged up. He only played one game in 2021. but other than that, the last one, two, three, four, five, six. So six of the last seven years, he's played at least 16 games, had nine sacks last year between two teams, Cleveland and Detroit. But, you know, I don't think you're expecting him to come and be one of your top two starters. And I don't know if that's the role that he wants. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:17:00 How about Clowny? What about bring Clowny home? That's another example. Your boy. You predicted famously. Famously, entering that draft, you said, I think. this Chadevian clownie guy could be something. So you want to the story there?
Starting point is 00:17:14 I don't know. There's Brian Westbrook. I'll tell you the story. I'll tell you the story. So I was chatting with someone in the Eagles front office. He asked me who I liked. A high-ranking front office. High-ranking.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Someone whose fingers near the button. And this was the time when this person is, we're having a conversation. What do you think of the guys in the tracks? A couple of ball-nowers. And I do the whole prerequisite. Well, I'm not a sketch. out, right? And he's like, I know, we're just talking here. You do this. You watch these guys.
Starting point is 00:17:46 You study these guys. What do you like? And I'm like, man, Jadavion Clowny is awesome. And I told my brother this. And my brother's like, you're talking to this person and your insight is the guy who's going number one in the dream? That's like saying, what do you like in the image? Well, Cooper Flagg, man. Yes. That's awesome. I actually don't think that Clowny is the right fit. He's got the run. Scheme-wise. Yeah, but he can't, he's not a dropper.
Starting point is 00:18:18 I think Zadari Smith has been that player a little bit more often. But I don't know. It is the one position where, like, if the Eagles are going to sign someone before training camp starts on, like, July 10th to some amount of guaranteed money, that's probably the place that would be. I'm very excited hearing all this because in my mind it was kind of like a closed book already. Like, I didn't expect them to add more. I think it might be.
Starting point is 00:18:40 But the fact that you guys think it's a possibility that they could add to that position still is pretty exciting. I don't think they're finished. Where do you follow, Jamie, on the conversation we had last week? Are you more concerned about the edge rush or the secondary in the Seagos defense? Do you think it will be more important, more difficult to replace what they lost in Josh Swett or what they lost in Darius Lay and C.J. Garner-J. Johnson and what matters more. I think defensive edge is more concerned for me. Josh Swett was like a sneaky, stable piece of that defensive line for years.
Starting point is 00:19:13 I was always a big Josh Swett fan. But I think you're missing that guy. Nolan Smith should take that step. And Jalick's Hunt should take those steps for years three and year two. But it's not a guarantee. You know, you're missing that fully baked pie kind of second and third piece of the line. So I think it's harder to replace Josh Schwett than I think it is Slay and maybe position changes for Cooper and some other guys. so I have more concern there.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Okay. You're with Zach. I'm a little bit more on the fence, but I think what they get out of the secondary will matter more. I think I agree that it will be more difficult to replace what they lost on the edge, but I think what the secondary looks like is going to matter more to this defense.
Starting point is 00:19:56 And do you expect Cooper to make the switch? No, I think he'll stay inside, and then the five snaps a game they play in base downs, will be outside. Yeah, Ringo is very intriguing. You better be good, you know? Yeah. Yeah, I'm curious tomorrow, so I'll be at practice tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:20:13 I'm curious if it's the same type of rotation. If it's Adori Jackson first, and again, what happens on June 3rd is not necessarily what's going to happen on September 4th. But, you know, I do think this time of year they're a little deferential to the veteran, and that's Adori Jackson. I'm pushing back on this, though. Adora was up first. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:32 I don't want to, like, practice playing the other beatwriters, but... They had a session in team drills, which matters more, and that's when Keeley-Ringo was on the outside. So I'm curious to see if that changes, if they're changing if it's like a little bit different every day, but that is a much more leading indicator of what they think than who takes the first rep in seven-on-sevents. Fair, fair.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Okay, I'm just putting this out then. But the individual drills are more of the indicator on the offensive line. Yes. Okay. And I also don't, I still, I checked my notes. Kenyon Green was on the left side. I mean, I had him to put, at the same time, I was watching practice with Jeff and Dave. So maybe we all like wrote down the, maybe it was group think there.
Starting point is 00:21:19 I don't know. I wrote, I checked my notes after the show. And I was like, I have Kenyon Green here and second team right guard. I could be wrong. We'll see where he is tomorrow. Ooh. We'll see. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Listen. Who do you trust? You got to figure it out. All right. We're going to take a little break on the other side. We're going to hear from the man himself, Brian Dawkins. What was the Super Bowl experience like for him? What does he think about Cooper, Gene?
Starting point is 00:21:47 Alice Thomas pointing to life. We will answer all of those questions, or he will have him answer those questions just after this. But we start with our friends at Bet365. Starting point is 00:26:35 Texted him this morning, a picture of him and Tony Pauline. Ah. Said happy birthday. So hopefully it's a good one. He was at the Phillies game yesterday. How's he spending the birthday today? Probably doing some guys. Doing some guys.
Starting point is 00:26:45 Okay. I would imagine. How else would he want to spend it? Yeah. Some time with the fam. It should be good. Happy birthday friend. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Back to business. Brian Dawkins. I don't know if you've heard of him. Weapon X. He used to play for the Eagles. Yes. Good player. Yay.
Starting point is 00:27:01 We had a chance to talk to him earlier about the event, the reason that we're here, what it's like getting back together with some of these guys. A very funny anecdote about what they did and why they're wearing the shirts, what they did last night. We can talk about that after. And his thoughts on the current Eagles defense and where he thinks Cooper DeGine might want to play or he thinks he should play. Let's check that out now.
Starting point is 00:27:21 Well, if you're watching, you know who we have right now. The man himself, Brian Dawkins, joins us on the P. P-H-O-I-Eagle show. Doc, first of all, what a beautiful day we got for this event. Absolutely gorgeous day. And now I've been getting weather reports for the last couple of weeks. It wasn't as sunny and dry. And so we moved into the right space of time.
Starting point is 00:27:41 And I like the outfits today. Yes. What I wouldn't give to see Zach in one of these. You look fantastic. I can't pull it off like Brian. Come on, man. But that's the theme. That's the theme of this year.
Starting point is 00:27:51 You know, if you didn't know about it, it's a whole island feel. And the reason why I wanted to do it is because, you know, when we made the Pro Bowl back in the day, we would go to Hawaii. And there's a specific feel that you go when you go to Hawaii that you just don't get when you stay here in the state. So what I wanted to do is for those guys who made Pro Bowls like yesterday, however many Pro Bowls you got, you would get a lay of, you know, the flowers. So if you see guys like, I think Irv had five on, Quick Five, Hugh had, I think, three. I think he's been some of the point is I wanted to allow that feeling to come back to those guys
Starting point is 00:28:30 of feeling what it felt like because we wanted the whole experience to kind of allow you to mentally escape from the everyday life for everybody who comes and that's why the shirt this morning. Well I love that but hold on how many did you get. Yeah I was about to say yeah so nine. Because this is like a nice way for you to be like welcome to my tournament by the way I got
Starting point is 00:28:46 nine ways here how many do you got and I couldn't wear like I have too many to wear it was pushed up all of my face So tell us a little bit about the tournament, what the charity is all about and what we're here for. Yes, so ultimately the charity itself, we want to bless single parent households and the children in those households with different programs. And those programs are to allow them to then have life experiences that could potentially change the trajectory of how they view themselves outside of not just in the community, but because we now have done these things through our programs
Starting point is 00:29:23 that they then want to go after life from a different place of hope because there's so much power and hope to be able to bless people who are striving and wanting to do more. But now we're blessed to then bless some of these families with some of those resources. And also some of the young people in high schools, we have a young ambassadors program that was in the third year now and just seeing some of the results of when they first start the program
Starting point is 00:29:49 to when they come out of it and the confidence that they have about themselves in themselves to be able to speak about their situations or, you know, some of the programs that they have in George Washington High Schools, that's what the program is originating right now. And prayerfully, we're going to do that program in other high schools here in Philadelphia as more, again, donations and things come in. I've been to some of these events and in the classroom with you when you meet with the students who are from single parent households, and the single parents are there as well.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Why is that particular group so important for you to reach? Well, it's important for me to reach because I've had people in my life that I lost when I was growing up. So the first one, Gary, I lost him. I was in the ninth grade when he was shot and killed. And then the other one I lost when I was freshman in college. and he was also shot in Kiev. And so neither one of them had fathers in the household, excuse me, they had a mom.
Starting point is 00:30:56 I knew the mom. She was always working, sometimes working two jobs. So she wasn't there in the house to help raise them. So they were basically left to do whatever they wanted to do outside. And it's just certain things that I knew that they were doing that I wouldn't be able to do with my dad coming home. And so what we want to do is begin to bless those young people because I also knew those two young men. I knew them, and I knew the gift. I saw the gifting that they had at the time, but they didn't have some of the outlets to be able to do, you know, do constructive things with those energies that they were doing destructive things with, if that makes sense.
Starting point is 00:31:31 And so that's what the program for me is so important so that I can potentially bless the next individual that can go on to do something significant in their lives, with their lives, because the program shows them with this same energy and this same gift that I have. that I'm using it in a wrong way, that I can use it in this way, and I can be a blessing to not just me, but also to my family. Well, it's a wonderful thing that you're doing, and fantastic that you're using the gifts that you have to pay that forward. I know you've got to get going in a few minutes. Let's talk a little Eagles. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:03 This defense, this Eagles defense that won the Super Bowl, I imagine, like Eagles fans who grew up watching you and were accustomed to this hard-hitting defense, guys who play like Doc, to get to watch this Eagles defense sort of brought back. those memories. What was it like for you watching this hard hitting group? I loved it because like when they first bought Vic
Starting point is 00:32:22 back, I was like, this is going to be a different defense. Now, I didn't know it's going to turn it to the defense that it is. Nobody did. But I just knew that it was going to be a completely different defense as far as the effort is concerned, because if you look at his other defenses and other places, the
Starting point is 00:32:38 effort was on point. Like there was no, there's not a loafing going on. There's not a whole lot of mental mistakes being made. And then there's a bunch of guys being called to do different things. So there was a lot of versatility in the defense. And so what that does to the defense, though, is it's a fun defense to be in because my number could get called
Starting point is 00:33:00 because I guess I'm getting excited because it reminded me of Jim Johnson's defense. Because everybody could get a chance to then rush, to blitz or do something. Why? Because everybody, they go out and they get people that I say our chest piece. It's like Cooper Dejean is a chess piece. You can move him all over the football field, right? Middle linebacker, Avon, right? He's a chess piece.
Starting point is 00:33:25 You can rush these. He's a middle linebacker, but he can drop in coverage. So when you have chess pieces, now the offense, they don't know who's going to be doing what. And then on the defensive side of the ball, you have all these chess pieces, and you can begin to call things and do things that gets the offense off their toes and put them back on their heels. For that reason, would you keep Dijin inside, or would you be okay moving him to the outside eventually? Well, I would love to know who we have in practice.
Starting point is 00:33:54 Yeah. If I'm watching practice and watching film, I can give you a more astute answer. But right now, I don't know what they have. I'm not watching practice film. I won't be watching practice film, so I don't know what those guys on the outside can do. If those guys on the outside can hold up,
Starting point is 00:34:08 and I'm not saying hold up to be like Slay was doing, right? They don't need to be that elevated right off the bat. but if they can hold up and then they can, you know, do a good job, then I would keep him in the slot. I would keep him where he is because a lot of times, especially with like the Patriots offense, when they were doing their things, they wanted to put West and those guys in the slot. Why? Because they're going against linebackers or they're going against individuals that it's going to be hard to cover
Starting point is 00:34:39 because it's a two-way goal on a slot. But when you have a confident cornerback that you have in Cooper with the skills, that he has, then he can then match up easily with those guys on a consistent basis. So I would keep him in the slot unless you have to put him outside. That would be my last resort is to put him back outside. Now, enough time has passed that not every safety is compared to you anymore. But when there is a safety taken in the second round who spent three years at Clemson, you invariably hear about Ryan Dawkins.
Starting point is 00:35:07 So Drew McCuba, how familiar are you with his game from those three years at Clemson and what can Eagles fans expect from him? Again, I don't watch film to be able to kind of give you an astute answer about what he can do. But I always caution and pause people just like, don't compare them to me. It took me 16 years to be me, right? So it took me a lifetime to be me. And they're not me. They're going to do, let them be themselves, let them and their talent come in and shine and have hopefully a very good career.
Starting point is 00:35:41 You know, don't compare them to me. but on that front for a rookie safety coming into this defense what do you think are the top priorities for that player to get up to speed learn the defense it's coming into the national football league it's it's about the verbiage it was about the verge verbage for me like it's you're going from speaking spanish to speak in chinese right so the the terminology is different the coverage some of the coverages are the same because colleges are more apt of playing more coverages than we used to back a day, but it's just that verbiage and then the speed of the game and the tightness of windows that quarterbacks in the NFL can complete passes that in the college it was not always the case. So for me, once again, is the language, the communication skills and then understanding the speed of the game and can you match up with it? And when you do get beat, what do you do? How do you respond to that? That's extremely important to understand. You have to learn
Starting point is 00:36:42 to how to then respond positively to a play that you give up. And then last one for me, which players can be most exciting or I guess the best one out there today? Who are the best golfer? The golfers here, I guess who are they most excited to see? You're talking about my former teammates? Former teammates, yes. I think Irv got it.
Starting point is 00:37:03 I think Irv got it. My former teammates now, as far as former golfers, it might be quick. I didn't play with quick, but my former teammates, I think, his urge. What did you do for the Super Bowl? I watched it from the room in New Orleans. Oh, nice. Yes. There we go.
Starting point is 00:37:20 All right. Well, Brian Dawkins, have fun with the rest of the event today. Thank you so much for letting us be here. And we'll be back with more on the PHAY Eagles podcast. All right, we're back, baby. Thanks to Doc for making time. Thanks for having us. I'm still, I really like the whole lays like, you know. All right, everybody, come to my thing.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Let's make sure everybody knows how many Pro Bowls everybody here had. Oh, I guess I do it. I have the most. I know. He's the mist of T. I guess that is the most here. I like that.
Starting point is 00:37:52 Who's next closest to the nine? And quick. Incredibly. Here. Yeah. Irving Friar, I would say. Friar and Quick, I think, are both similar. Maybe curse is up there.
Starting point is 00:38:01 Yeah. The freak. Yeah. Have you worn a Lays before? Is that what it's called? No. Allay. A lay.
Starting point is 00:38:09 That's a potato chip. And we're hers people. Have you worn a lay before? I've ever been Hawaii. Have you been Hawaii? Yes. Okay. I have not.
Starting point is 00:38:15 It's on my bucket list. Yeah, it's on my bucket list too. I wanted to my honeymoon. Do they lay you as soon as you get to the hotel or the airport or where you get laid? It is a thing where like you get to the airport and sometimes you get laid right away. That's awesome. What a way to start a trip? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:29 What's Hawaii like? Beautiful. Hmm. I didn't, I didn't think that was coming. I mean, that's it. I'm curious. It's the three years. It's talking.
Starting point is 00:38:40 And Dawkins is saying you used to get awarded with a strip to Hawaii. I've never gone to Hawaii. I've always wanted to go. I can live vicariously through you. You've been to Hawaii. What's Hawaii? Beautiful. Beautiful.
Starting point is 00:38:49 So I just heard a story on the Bill Burr podcast that apparently a kid, now I did not follow this story firsthand. So excuse me if this is not 100% accurate. Apparently he sailed from Portland to Hawaii. Oh, yeah. This is the whole thing. Yeah. That is bonkers.
Starting point is 00:39:03 And he only, he's not like a professional sailor. No. Just learned from watching YouTube. Yeah, he like, he studied up on it. And then I guess did he. He didn't build his own craft too, didn't I think he did make it. He did.
Starting point is 00:39:14 He landed in Hawaii. John Marks will tell you who lived there for six months is the way the locals say it. But apparently he made it all the way to Hawaii from Portland, which is good on them. I would be horrified. Like how do you navigate storms in the open sea? I think you're doing that only if you're okay dying.
Starting point is 00:39:33 Yes, that's the only way. Yeah. That's wild. I saw, I think it was Sebastian Mankowsko's talking about that person and he said that he only snacks he packed it was like um it was like Halloween candy right
Starting point is 00:39:46 he packed like yeah it was a good bit that Sebastian did I know you're a big Sebastian guy yeah where did you watch that you're plugged into his ring camera like what's the deal? I saw these short on so you know clips on social are a big deal right
Starting point is 00:40:00 so it's growing through your social see a clip and I'm like ah Sebastian I got to listen your feed your YouTube feed is all Sebastian and like Warren Buffett clips No, it's, it's P.H.O.I. and West Wing videos, basically. Yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:14 I live Zach Berman's dream once when I was with Sunday Night Football. I walked the perimeter of Lambeau Field with Warren Buffett. Really? Yeah. He was a very nice guy. And he was very friendly and personable. And, like, we had a, you know, BS, you know, kind of short conversation. But it was very cool.
Starting point is 00:40:31 I once had to spend two weeks in Omaha for work. And I read about a restaurant that, what? I'm just saying, I'm just letting me. the sickos know we've heard the story before but go ahead. Oh, sorry. You go to his favorite coffee shops and restaurants and diets. There's a steakhouse he likes called Piccolo Pete's, I believe it's called. And I went like three nights in a row
Starting point is 00:40:50 trying to see Warren Buffett wasn't there. So by the next night I needed a salad. Didn't have salads on the menu? I know. It's a good line. All right. Let's take a break here from our other sponsors. We'll come back. We're going to hear from Trey Thomas. Maybe some of those surprises. talk about some of the Eagles things from over the weekend

Starting point is 00:45:30 I feel like the Mando Reed, it's kind of like the it's like the penis game of podcast ad reads. Yeah? Yeah, yeah. Did you, you didn't play the penis game in high school? You might, don't, don't faint in differences. Come on. You don't know what the penis game is. I have no idea what you were talking about. I'll start. Ready, Bo?
Starting point is 00:45:48 Penis. Penice. Penis. Grundle. I literally had no idea what that game is. I like to imagine, I like to imagine Zach walking through high school halls. People are just yelling penis at the top of their lungs and he is none the wiser. He has no idea.
Starting point is 00:46:03 What's going on? When do I jump in? Well, Matt Walsh had 25 and 3 and 18 last night. Honestly, I went to high school with Addy. Yeah, my wife, yeah. I don't recall this game. I have friends from high school who watched the show. Sean Greve, text us if you're watching.
Starting point is 00:46:22 Did we play this game? At some point, somebody in the library. Yeah, the cafeteria. Yeah, definitely not me. Chris knows what we're talking about. Brianna, you know what we're talking about? Of course. I swear I never played this game.
Starting point is 00:46:33 Everybody played the penis game. Did you play the Penn 15 club? It's like Annie Murphy. It's a fun game. It's a fun game. I'm familiar with that. I didn't participate in that. Oh, the penis was a classic game.
Starting point is 00:46:45 Yeah. But no, I was doing like lineups. You know, my doodles? If Matt Brunters watching this show, he could say, my doodle. I used to do jerseys. and, like, create different teams jerseys.
Starting point is 00:47:02 Oh, really? That's kind of nice. Yeah, when I was doing during the class. I was a big draw the court or field and then fill in the player depth charts. Oh, yeah, okay, yeah. So, like, I would have left field in left field. Yeah, I would try to do all the, like, every baseball team's line up in my head.
Starting point is 00:47:17 Exactly, yeah. But then occasionally I'd be like, oh, right field for the Phillies, penis! You know, like that. Yeah, that never once happened to me ever. Oh, weird. No, I guess I am because apparently I'm going to be out of the other one. But a sheltered life. I'll have to ask Addy if it was played at your high school.
Starting point is 00:47:31 Yeah, please find out. I mean, 100%. Yeah. I'll ask Julia, too. I'll send a group text. Frank Ragnow. We're tired. We've been wanting to get to this.
Starting point is 00:47:43 He definitely played the penis game. So, you think that Ragnow is going to get into podcasting? Is that the... I mean, there's no shortage of athletes podcast. All pro center to podcasts. Oh, I see that entry point. Yeah, look, he's a great player. And Detroit, they're the chief rivals for the Eagles,
Starting point is 00:48:05 or the chief contenders to win the NFC from my perspective. So this is a big announcement. Now, you can tell that something was up, you know, but they draft, what, Tate Rutledge, I think, in the second round. They drafted Miles Frazier, who has versatility in the fifth round. But Rutledge, I imagine, would slot in there. The one thing I'm curious is, would they have gone after Jonah Jackson earlier this offseason
Starting point is 00:48:29 had they known this was going to happen. I don't know the answer to that. But look, this is, I mean, for June 2nd, I think that's pretty sizable news that Frank Ragnall retires. Oh, sure. I think, I mean, I think there is a real chance that the lions are just okay this year. There's a lot of moving parts on that offense. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:49 On the offensive line in particular. They've also lost Ben Johnson. And Aaron Glenn. And Aaron Glenn. Yeah. That's big. Yeah. Plus, Jarragoff kind of stinks.
Starting point is 00:48:58 I think there's absolutely a chance that they don't make the playoffs. I think they're going to be awesome. I think they're, I mean, they get Hutchinson back. Hutchinson had his press conference last week. He's fully healthy. They got loads of talent. I think Jamo is going to have a big year this year. I like, I think that they had these internal promotions.
Starting point is 00:49:21 I like what they got going. I'm buying Lion's stock, which shouldn't be a surprise. For you to buy their stock, it's at like a predicted NFC championship level. I'm holding their stock. How about that? I'm not selling my lion shares. I'm texting Julia, who is not with us today. She's still alive.
Starting point is 00:49:44 I just texted Julia and Adi about the game. So I'll get an answer for you. I got to say, if Matt Walsh definitely played the game in grade school. I know for a fact. I got to say this. If you've ever played the game and you got that text, you'd be very confused. Well, I put it in all caps, as you can see, to really emphasize the penis. But, like, no, I'm saying if someone sent me that text right now, I'd be like, what were you getting into in high school?
Starting point is 00:50:08 Yeah, me sending my wife in hindsight, did you play the penis game in high school? Probably is a little out of left field. No, because I think it is so ubiquitous and is so known as a phrase that I think she will understand. I was familiar with the phrase. I didn't play the game. No, I know you. I understand you're familiar with what a penis is. Okay.
Starting point is 00:50:32 I mean the phrase, the penis game. I never, and like, it's not something I would ever, like, talk about either in school. Like, we're not talking about like, this is my penis. You're just saying the worst. The whole point of the game is to make that sensibility affected. Yeah, that's, yeah. In the most awkward situation possible. Kind of like how I feel on the show right now.
Starting point is 00:50:54 Yeah, yeah. People enjoy. in the comments seeing your reaction to my Mando read. They like the full shot here so they got to see you squirm a little bit when I was talking brundles. Yeah, that always does catch me off guard.
Starting point is 00:51:07 Bo, I haven't done that read yet, actually. There was a request for you to do tomorrow's. No, so I thought Bo was just improvising. I didn't realize it was actually part of the read. I was on the sales call. They're pro grundle. Yeah. Good for that.
Starting point is 00:51:21 That's awesome. I mean, we all should be hoping that our grundles smell better. Yeah. Check out Mando. No doubt about it. Speaking of Grundels. Can you guys check out life surge this weekend? So I was not there.
Starting point is 00:51:39 Okay. So my only understanding of it is the great work that Olivia Reiner did at the Inquirer. Shout out to Olivia. I did not realize she was a fellow alum. I saw the two of you on the magazine. Yeah, Olivia's terrific. I was like, out of you. You never told me.
Starting point is 00:52:01 Yeah, she does great work. And please check out her story at The Inquirer about it. I saw clips from Urban Myers' appearance at the one in Columbus. Columbus, yeah. Now, and to be fair, there's a guy who you should emulate in everything he does in his life. There is a stand-up person. But no. So I don't know what was said.
Starting point is 00:52:25 If you were there in the chat, let us know how it was. If you watch this on YouTube, leave comments, let us know how it was. I was not present. Here's the deal. I mean, the conceit is this is an entirely phony operation. It is a predatory scheme that they have to bilk people out of their money in the guise of Christianity. The question is, how much do the people who are being invited on just to generally speak about their faith, know about these things.
Starting point is 00:52:56 How much should their management teams be protecting them from being involved in something like this without having all the information? I don't know. You read about the accounts of the ones in Columbus and it's like, okay, for like three hours, they're talking about God wants you to join this thing where you can pay $90,000 to get your real estate license or whatever it is. And then at the end, there's a little roundtable with Urban Meyer and Kirk Herb Street just talking about how they feel about God.
Starting point is 00:53:26 And that's fine. And I would presume that's, you know, what Nick Siriani and Sequin Barclay were invited to do, just talk generally about faith. But, you know, do they need the money? Could they do the work and maybe not be involved with something? I think you could probably hope that that would be the case. So you said their management team should have been on more alert here. Do you think their football team should have been on more alert here?
Starting point is 00:53:49 Yeah, I do. But I don't know. I mean, if I were the Eagles, I would not want. them involved in that? I mean, this thing is going to come crashing down in some kind of scandal, however long it is, and it will look silly that they were involved in it. Agreed. But then again, it will look silly, and they will be however much richer and they won't be a big deal.
Starting point is 00:54:09 Yeah. If they can sleep at night, that's fine. Yeah, so my thought, now, again, I don't want, I don't know enough about this, but based on what I've read, yeah, I wouldn't want to be part of something that is scamming anyone out of money. I do think, you know, Nick, I think Nick's genuine about his faith. But that aside, like, if this is just a scheme to scam people, then certainly it's not something I would want to be affiliated with.
Starting point is 00:54:39 Listen, these are, you know, it's a complicated thing. Yeah. I would, you put $200,000 in front of me and I might go too. Yeah. But I would like to think that I wouldn't. I was shocked at the lack of response to it. Now, I wasn't on the internet a ton this weekend, but I didn't see any reaction one way or the other to it.
Starting point is 00:55:00 So it seems like it was kind of a contained, quiet type of event, as quiet as you can be for the Wells Fargo Center. Okay. That's all. How is the rest of your weekend? Good. We had my sister-in-law in town. That was nice.
Starting point is 00:55:17 Had a playoff baseball game, got the W. Nice. Back out of tonight. Ooh. Do or die stage? Oh, yeah. What position does a young Casey play? In the corner outfield.
Starting point is 00:55:29 Okay. So I was telling Bo on Saturday, you know, I'd leave Reed's baseball game at like 3.30. And I say, you know what? I'm going to give Reed a little surprise impromptu Phillies game. I know I can go on the game time, get last minute tickets, lowest price guarantee. presuming that they still are certain wow Jack I have breaking news
Starting point is 00:55:55 that may validate you in some degree Julia says hold on she logged off what is the penis game oh wow thank you yes yes then she then says the Penn 15 that's what she's now what we're talking about yeah
Starting point is 00:56:09 yeah I don't recall playing this game so guys so I'll see what Addie says but that is big news that would be two people You know, thank you, Joey. First time Joey is on my side, not yours. So, no, so I, and I think this is like the coolest thing. Like, like last minute we're going to surprise him, or I'm going to surprise him,
Starting point is 00:56:31 take him to the game, we get in the car, and we're driving. So we leave like, it's like by St. Joseph's campus, and we're driving up, and we're going, you know, I just have to go through Fairmount to get the 76. And boom, there's, there's traffic. And on the map, there's a little red. And I'm like, all right, Reid, don't worry. We'll be there. End of first inning.
Starting point is 00:56:54 And that little red just turns into standstill. And it was the Roots picnic. Where were you? Where was the traffic? Right by the Man Center. Yeah. At that turn by Belmont Park. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:03 And we were just parked there. And they almost canceled it because it got so muddy. Oh, is that okay. There was a whole thing. Like, it was supposed to open the doors at 1. And then they announced like at 1.30 that they weren't going to open them until 3 or something like that. Yeah. Lenny Kravitz was one of the headliners.
Starting point is 00:57:20 Gotcha, okay. Now, could you name a Lenny Kravitz song? Now, there's one that's out there that was like the biggest. You would know it if you hear it for sure. Is it? I was confusing. Confused Lenny Kravitz. Somebody else.
Starting point is 00:57:42 Bob Kravitz? I mean, you got to tell us who? Zoe Cravitz was just in the studio I was confusing Lenny Kravitz with Macy Gray I think there's that song Oh There's that song Try as I met you or like
Starting point is 00:58:03 Oh yeah I know you mean Yeah that one yeah That's good What's a Lenny Kravitz song If you said it I would probably The two that I think come to most people's minds Are American woman and fly It was it fly like an eagle
Starting point is 00:58:13 Fly away Yeah I wouldn't have got neither one There was another song I would have gotten. Was the song at the... I don't know. I'm sorry. Speaking of the penis game.
Starting point is 00:58:25 Lenny Kravitz, I mean... Yeah. Famously on stage, his pants ripped and his penis came out. I wasn't aware of that. I think he's got a nude kind of like vibe to him in general. What's a nude vibe? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:58:39 You're just kind of always with your shirt off. You want to know what a nude vibe is? You want to know what a nude vibe is? You can find out in... Overtime! Far and away, the least enthusiastic over time we've ever had on the show. Well, no, because in the chat,
Starting point is 00:59:00 I promise you the Macy Gray, Lennie Kravitz Conflation, had nothing to do with race. No, no, no. It's the song. You're saying the song. There was a song that I thought, yeah, yeah, trust me. I don't know what Macy Gray looks like. Oh, I'm sorry, Fly.
Starting point is 00:59:15 INS points out, are you going to go my way? was the song that put Lani Kravitz on the map. But I think American Woman, because of awesome powers or whatever it was in, made it bigger. But, yes. That's very funny. So anyway, to your point of the story, that's why the man center was apparently disaster, mud, traffic.
Starting point is 00:59:33 So we turned around. We wouldn't be... Really? Yeah, because it was like standstill. It was a parking lot, basically. And we wouldn't have gotten to the game until, like, the fourth inning at that point. But then, you know, we were listening to the game in the car. It was, what, 7-0?
Starting point is 00:59:46 It did in the first. so it's probably good we didn't get there. It's probably a good game to mess. At that point, I was rooting for the Brewers to just score 20 plus. What's the thing of them keeping Lizardo in? I know where the Eagles show, not the Phillies show, but. That's over time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:59 What do you think of that? You couldn't burn too many bullpen arms because I believe Kirkering and Strom were unavailable. You didn't really want to burn them in that type of game. So, like, you kind of need some innings eating there. Yeah, I felt bad for him during that. It was a white flag move from Rob Thompson. It's just like, take your lumps kid. Sorry.
Starting point is 01:00:17 Yeah. But, yeah. In an ideal world, you have a bigger bullpen that you can burn some arms with. All right, Zach, I'm going to give you a chance to spin this back to Eagles. Oh, thank God. I'm going to listen to this show on the ride home. God. Not my final step to say.
Starting point is 01:00:34 I think you did a great job. I've had a lot of laughs. What else are you interested in seeing tomorrow? We talked about the secondary. What else is interesting? Yes, well, so the big thing with the secondary tomorrow, honestly, like, Eudor Jackson is not as interesting to me, but is interesting to me tomorrow. is I'm assuming Reed Blanketship is going to be there tomorrow because, well, Anthony said it
Starting point is 01:00:53 today. I think Reed Blankchips is going to be in our studio later today. Right? Yeah. They had the big event in Iowa yesterday. Yeah, exactly. Superdejean's journey softball. Yeah, we'll talk about that in a second. So Reed will be there. So I want to see the first safety up next to Reed in the first team drills. Is it Sydney Brown? Is it Drew McCuba? Because we really didn't get a chance to see that last week. I think what is, I mean, my expectation is that it will be Sidney Brown, but are they still rotating as much with Reed Blank? Like, I don't expect Reed Blankenship to be rotating with other guys,
Starting point is 01:01:25 so it will be more about how many people are rotating in next to Reed Blankenship. Is it just McCuba and Sydney Brown? Are they not rotating at all? Is McCollum a part of that rotation? Is Andre Sam a part of that rotation? No, I don't know, yeah. Also, we haven't gotten the schedule yet on for tomorrow, but I'm assuming that Vic Fangio will speak to us.
Starting point is 01:01:45 Oh, well, now that is... The highlight of the off season, yeah. Appointment television. Yes. Yeah, tell us the truth, Vic. So I... I saw a smile from Vic over the weekend. We're going to get his unvarnished Bryce Huff thoughts.
Starting point is 01:01:59 What went wrong there? We're going to find out probably who's going to be the starting safety. Jahad Campbell, can he play edge? What position is Shah Gahed Campbell playing? He's just going to tell us. Like, who is the leader in the clubhouse? Like, all the questions we have, he's probably just going to tell us. Have you ever seen that?
Starting point is 01:02:16 Indian, the Indian out of Pacers, the color commentator, who they were talking before the game, and they're like, is this guy playing? And he turns around, he's like, hey, are you playing? And he's like, it's all you have to do is just like, that's what, I appreciate that. Like, let's not beat around the push. Yeah. I saw Vic Fangio smile. The Eagles had their bowling event at South Bowl.
Starting point is 01:02:38 Ah, yes. You know, they did the Pellestra trip. They did the South Bowl trip. And they were going around asking people, you know, who's going to win the bowling event. and Vic Fangio kind of smiled and gave his answer and, like, chuckled a little. And I was like, whoa. Yeah, he said he hadn't had time to scout them. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:53 Of course you saw it. Anything else, Eagles, before I haven't had a follow-up. The Cooper DeGene thing. So I do think it was pretty cool to see. So Cooper DeGine had his charity golf. I'm sorry. Softball. Yes.
Starting point is 01:03:07 I'm looking at a golf course. Are you offended if we weren't invited? Not there yet. I mean, I hope next year. But, I mean, if you want you. If you want your team to win, Cooper. Yeah. Right here.
Starting point is 01:03:18 So Cooper de Gene had his charity softball. And then the people who were there included A.J. Brown, included Devante Smith. So that was really cool to see. You know, I think if you're A.J. Brown, you're DeVante Smith. You're going across the country to Cooper deG. Junior Charity softball game, that says a lot.
Starting point is 01:03:46 That says a lot. So I think it speaks volumes, probably about the bonds in that locker room, the fact that Darius Lay went, the fact that Isaiah Rogers won as well. I think we have, we might be getting another guest here. Oh, this is exciting.
Starting point is 01:04:01 This is the, who will it be? You have no idea. You have no idea, but it's going to be fun. The follow-up I have for you? Yes. Julia chimes back in,
Starting point is 01:04:10 says she thinks you probably played to the middle school. I don't think I played that game I mean maybe I was at one of those parties I wasn't invited to No because the whole The point of the game is to do it in public Party is not a fun place
Starting point is 01:04:27 Gotcha okay yeah On the bus on a field trip or something like that Yeah No I don't remember Honestly I'm not even trying to be like Sheepishly innocent here I don't remember playing that that that game.
Starting point is 01:04:42 Sometimes, I will call you out if I think you are not telling the truth. I think you are telling the truth. Sean, Pete, I mean, all you guys watching right now. If I'm wrong, please correct me. It's less about, less about did you play it and more. Like, I think you should know what the game is. That is, I am a little bit surprised by it. I'm actually kind of happy I don't know what the game is.
Starting point is 01:05:01 It doesn't sound like a game I wouldn't want to play. It's just a word. I'm not streaming that word out at school. Like, I'm not, you know. I'm trying, you know, I, uh, yeah. But these were in your bad boy days. When you were in middle school, you know, I have it on good authority that this was before you turn the corner. Now, elementary school.
Starting point is 01:05:23 Once I got to fifth grade, after fifth grade, never got in trouble. Okay. Yeah. Never gotten any kind of trouble? Not really. No. Honestly, I was, um, I found out what college Bob Costas went to. And I said, I want to do what Bob Costas is doing.
Starting point is 01:05:41 Have I told you my Bob Costas story? No, let's hear. So Bob Costas, he and my dad had interacted over the years. He'd written a story about him at some point. They worked on the Ken Burns documentary together. And we were on vacation. My dad and I in Florida, and we were at the airport. And he goes, you know who that is over there?
Starting point is 01:06:03 He said, no. It's Bob Costas. And walk over. And it wasn't Bob Costas. But who do we have? The man right here. The man himself, Brandon Graham, hot dog in hand. How you doing, B.G?
Starting point is 01:06:19 I'm doing good. How'd you shoot? I shot all right. I just say I made a couple shots that we can hit from. That was my biggest thing. Okay, I like that. All right. We got you for like five minutes.
Starting point is 01:06:31 First of all, congratulations on the award that you won. I want to read you. Have you read the quote that Zach wrote about you? No, no, I did. Here's what Zach wrote. This is a great live reaction. For a chunk of Brandon Graham's 15 years with the Eagles, he would playfully tease reporters at the end of media availability by shouting,
Starting point is 01:06:51 locker rooms closed. Clos. And follow it with his trademark laugh. The shame for reporters is they will no longer hear that from Graham anymore. His honesty, enthusiasm, and accessibility helps reporters do their jobs. Just beginning. In both his introduction with the team and in his retirement ceremony, Graham went around the room and embraced every.
Starting point is 01:07:09 reporter, a sign of his professional respect. But that within itself does not make him the recipient of this award. Graham's perspective was shaped by being a first-round pick on the verge of being cut to becoming one of the most iconic players in franchise history with a game-clinching sack in the Super Bowl to show for it, and he used that perspective to offer unique insight. He was always available, no matter the outcome, and he recognized the jobs of the reporters who came through the locker room. He built meaningful relationships and made time, even with seemingly endless demands,
Starting point is 01:07:39 If this award is meant for someone with the qualities and professional style in helping pro football writers do their jobs, the award could just as soon be named after him. Dang, man. He deserves it. I appreciate you. For you. I mean it.
Starting point is 01:07:53 I mean it. Absolutely. I mean it. We are lucky to be able to have covered branding. Well, you know, we talked about this BG on the show is that part of what made it special being in the locker room with you and how available you always were is that it wasn't like a tit for tat. It wasn't an ulterior motive where you were trying to shape the narrative in some way.
Starting point is 01:08:12 It was just, you're just being yourself. We appreciate that. That's why I say, man, I blocked a couple of y'all before. And then I forgave everybody. You did. How was, now, we imagine that today is when it's actually going to become official, right? Yeah, yeah. How we called me this morning.
Starting point is 01:08:27 How we called me this morning. I haven't talked to him, but he told me that it was going to put up. No, no, I ain't say nothing. But he showed said that he got me on the retired list. I was like, all right, that's what's up. I got to say you are everywhere, right? Like, like, every, everywhere you turn, there's Brandon Graham. Is there a body double?
Starting point is 01:08:46 How do you do it? Like, like, what's your, how do you manage your schedule right now? Well, my wife, me and her, we share a schedule. So as long as I put it in and it's not interfering with anything. Like right now, I'm about to go home so I can pick up baby girl, take her to gymnastics. It's cool, man. I mean, I hung out.
Starting point is 01:09:02 I've been out here since 9 o'clock hitting balls, and we started at 12. And then, you know, now I knew I was going to have to leave around like three so that I can get back in the... What do we got? A Google Calendar? Oh, yeah, Google. Well, you know, Google Calendar and Wi-Fi and me, it just works with. Okay. And I know for me, she want me to do it all.
Starting point is 01:09:22 She want me to take care of anything that I need as far as, you know, being away from the game and now being more busy than ever. And just really being able to support stuff like this. Because really, you got to say no to some stuff too because, like, all stuff ain't good stuff. the time and you know everybody got motives like you said but for the most part i just want to come help others and you know enjoy have a good time and uh now that i got that time just kind of make sure i'm using it wisely can we ask you one football question yep the state of the edge rush group without you after the bryce up trade you've got nolan and jelix at the top and a bunch of other guys trying to fit into that rotation how do you feel about that group i feel like everybody has to play
Starting point is 01:10:02 together with that group because you got the people inside that's going that's going to be good like Jordan Davis and Jordan, Jalen Carter, and then Mo, oh, John Mo. You know, I feel like they got a nice little rotation. But as long as the guys are on the same page, talking and practicing well together, when hard stuff come up, make sure that y'all talking to each other in the locker room, not letting the media just talk about, oh, why this didn't happen, why this sack ain't happen, oh, why are y'all two and two? Y'all suck, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:10:33 You got to make sure that you just block out the noise and work, because I felt like last year we built and we worked to get to that stage where we finished strong as strongly as we did and I think that it was just a daily walk of handling the elephants in the room when stuff goes wrong and making sure we're talking through it and then making sure when we're on the field that it was all about us making play so if those guys stay strong and that in the old lineman make sure that they iron sharpens iron and Nolan has to start has to lead that because he's the he's the oldest guy only because he's the starter. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:11:08 So you got to mature early. And I think he's going to be able to do that. I'm going to try to be there to help him. I got to ask one quick thing, because this is our first time having you on PHLY. Our co-host is Vinnie Curry. Yep, that's my guy. So we need to ask you because Vinny's watching this at home.
Starting point is 01:11:24 What's your best Vinny Curry story you can tell us? If I had to say, I mean, me and Vinny, boy, we did so much together. Let me think. I mean, it was, no, you know what else was, it was just, I would just say it was a cool moment for me on how we enjoyed the WWE when it came to, and then how we was at live first. It felt like we was at a tailgate. We was just there talking and then just being in his world, a wrestling, because I know how much it means to him. That was special to me because he hung out with us the whole time. And we, you know, once we went to our seats and stuff, everything just was all good.
Starting point is 01:12:01 I mean, but that whole, that whole little process before we got in, man, was everything. It was cool to kick it with him, especially as him being retired that year and me still playing. It was just more like, man, that's what's up. That boy, you know, we still get to hang outside of playing on the field. Okay, we love that. But that's my guy, though. Yeah. We love him.
Starting point is 01:12:22 He's our guy, too. Yeah. He's our guy too. We'll have stolen. Y'all have stolen. Because y'all paid him. You're not wrong. That's true.
Starting point is 01:12:31 That's you. Yep, but I appreciate y'all. E-A-G-L-E-S-E-E-O. Let's go. We'll just use that to close the show. Brandon Graham, thank you so much. Jamie Lynn. Enjoy the hot talk.
Starting point is 01:12:42 Brian Dawkins, free for making it happen. Thank you, BG, Zach Berman, of course. That'll close it out for this episode of the P. H.HL.Y. Eagles podcast. Back tomorrow, 2 o'clock, live reaction from the second open OTA for the Eagles. We'll let you know what the depth chart machinations were. And if anybody made any plays that popped, plenty more to come. Plenty more to come this week on PHLY.
Starting point is 01:13:02 Thanks for listening. Thanks for watching. We'll talk to you tomorrow. And as always, we love you.
