All right, there we go.
In three, two.
Oh, is this a, is there a presenter or anything?
Do we just like say?
Okay.
All right, here we go.
Three, two.
That's right.
And welcome back to the P.H.O.I. Eagle Show.
I am Fran Duffy, joined by the professor, Dana is Selman.
And Dana is we're going to talk through what the Eagles could potentially do here in the waning days before the trade deadline this coming week on election day.
Obviously, there's big things going on this week.
but the NFL trade deadline Tuesday afternoon.
Look, we hashed out the Miles Garrett thing in the Friday episode of the show.
So go back into the feed and you go check that out.
But to just kind of put a ribbon on that, very unlikely that they would be able to get a move done.
Obviously, Cleveland would have to be motivated.
The Eagles would love to be, of course, he'd love to be able to get a player like Miles Garrett.
But I think that the chances of it happening are pretty unlikely.
Yeah, I mean, whenever you're talking about a player of that caliber,
you always shouldn't expect that to happen.
Yes. Now, I think we would agree that if there's going to be a move, it'll probably be to help the defense. Yeah. And, you know, this defense was the best defense in the league last year, first in the league by DVOA down to 16th this year, despite being in year two of Fangio where a lot of the players are more used to the scheme. And I think the reason is clearly because of the talent that was lost in the offseason, right? And so how can you bring people in to kind of get it back to the level it was last year? Outside Forner seems to be the most.
obvious hole along with edge rusher.
Yeah.
And if you're not going to get a Miles Garrett,
is there an edge rusher that you have in mind?
I know you have your eyes on what's going on in Miami.
Yeah.
That might be more realistic and worthwhile someone who would be good enough
to be like a top two edge rusher on this roster.
Yeah,
I think that if you look at the Miami Dolphins who parted ways with their general manager
this week and Chris Greer,
they've got a couple of pass rushers in Jalen Phillips and in Bradley Chubb,
two former first round picks that have talent,
that have the ability to come in and help this defense
and give them a little bit of a boost off the edge.
I think that with both,
you're probably talking like at most,
I would think like a third round pick type of situation
in terms of what the trade value would be.
Look, the Miami Dolphins, like I said,
they already made the move of general manager.
They have a first round pass rusher from last year
in Chop Robinson that they'd love to be able to give more playing time to.
So it would make sense on their side of it.
I do think that there are other options on the table for the Eagles as well.
the problem is that it seems like it's a pretty competitive market out there for in terms of people
that want to buy pass rusher. A lot of the top contenders would love to be able to add to their
defensive line rotation at this point in the calendar. And so I'll be interested to see if they do
get a deal done. My antenna went up at that Charles Robinson report when it came to Miles Garrett that
they would love to be able to part ways with some of their depth pieces. So I look at a player like
Alex Wright for the Cleveland Browns. He's a player that the Eagles saw up close during joint
practices this week. He was a former big time recruit. He went to the,
University of Florida, then transfer to a lower level before coming into the NFL.
So this would be a guy I think that would fit the Eagles profile, big, explosive, powerful.
Jermaine Johnson, another one from the New York Jets that is, you know, he's first round pedigree.
Georgia guy transferred to Florida State for his final year.
So he's very familiar with a lot of players on this defense.
So there suffered a lot from injuries, which how he's usually into.
That's the thing is that you don't get that maybe get him for cheap because he hasn't been playing, hasn't been productive of late.
But you know, and Joe Douglas is who drafted him.
Joe Douglas is here.
They've already made one trade with the New York Jets with Michael Carter.
Does that preclude them from making another deal a corner in your mind?
Well, you know what?
Someone would have to go out, right?
Michael Carter is not a corner.
He's a, he's a nickel.
And why he was brought in, we don't know yet.
But if he was brought in to move Cooper to Gene outside and that's the plan for Michael Carter,
then it would be silly to trade for a corner, right?
Like if that's your plan, if you think Michael Carter is still going to be able to be one of the top nickels in the league,
like he was paid to be,
and you think he's over his injuries and you think he's going to be good enough to play,
then you're moving Cooper to Gene outside,
and you're fine with Cooper de Gene and Quinion Mitchell is your two corners.
You're not going to get much better than that as a cornerback room.
And so there's no way you're trading for another corner if that was the plan for Michael Carter.
The only way you're going to trade for a corner is if Michael Carter was just a depth piece or someone you want to play in dime a little bit, right?
which the compensation is such that that could be the case.
But you don't seem to think that that's the case.
I don't think so.
Yeah.
And I think that the way we kind of landed on it,
you and I when we had that conversation in Friday's episode
was most likely outcome with the Michael Carter acquisition
is that they are going to get into multiple versions of their nickel sub package
where there's one version that's got Michael Carter inside,
another version that's got Cooper DeGine inside.
You know,
and then they can play a little bit of dime if they want to do that.
That's what my gut tells me.
Right.
But then if you're trading for like a top corner, like where to see fit into that.
Like he's only going to play sometimes outside.
You know what I mean?
Like so it doesn't really, it doesn't really make sense.
What if Dijian moonlights its safety?
Well, I don't know if that's, don't you think it's a little too late to be making like radical moves like that?
He did it in the off season.
No, for sure.
And for a chunk of training camp.
Yeah.
This all goes against him.
We talked about this on the on the episode, the Friday episode as well.
Like, Fangio doesn't like to move.
No.
Parts around that much.
He doesn't like to have.
that many different defensive packages.
He likes people to be able to learn
certain roles and kind of stay in those roles.
So all these things we're suggesting here
involve a lot of moving parts. And I think
bringing in an extra corner who is going
to deserve snaps is probably
a little bit too much shuffling. So Michael Carter's
probably the last move we're going to see in the secondary.
Offensively, I know we both feel
a defense is most likely, but offensively
is there any position you feel like they could
realistically address before Tuesday afternoon?
I think the one coming into
the year that we would have been talking about,
was like a blocking tight end type or a tight end depth piece.
Dallas Goddard has mostly stayed healthy this year.
He's been really good.
You could argue that he's more valuable to the team than Isaiah Rogers was last year,
which I mentioned because our friend DJ seemed to have other thoughts.
Shots taking a DJ while vacationing in Paris.
It's like flying back right now.
Yeah, no, no.
I think given how Dallas Goddard's been playing and given that they've kind of
decided they can play Fred Johnson
10 snaps a game as he has the last two
games. Makes me think that maybe
blocking tight end is not as big a priority.
And then it's like, well,
who are you going to be trading for? Like you're not, you're not
going to upgrade an offensive line at this time
of the year, like given how important
continuity is there. And also
like, who are you replacing
on the offensive line? Right?
Depth piece, like if you were
like, oh, you want to, but I agree.
It's right. The other one.
Red Toeaf seems to be like a weapon at center.
You've got your depth there, yeah.
The other, the other elephant.
Guard depth would make sense because if there's an injury at guard,
like there is a clearer problem.
Although they brought to Opeta in, so, you know.
That might have been the solution.
That might have been the solution.
The elephant in the room is obviously the AJ Brown of it all.
I think you and I are on the same page that it's unlikely that any kind of move is made there.
But I don't think you can completely 100% shut the door on that.
Yeah, I mean, as much as AJ Brown wants to be traded or if he wants to be traded,
or if he wants to be traded or if he thinks he wants to be traded,
which by the way, the grass is not always greener.
Like I'm not sure where he thinks he's going to go.
But I would seriously doubt that a team that's seriously trying to win the Super Bowl this year
is going to trade away its best, like one of its best players on offense.
I mean, that would be a crazy thing.
You know, we made so much fun of Dallas when they traded Micah Parsons.
That that's the level of silliness it would be to trade a player like AJ Brown.
Last question.
How many turkeys would you put on?
the idea that the Miles Garrett rumor got floated out there to put a little like, you know,
nugget in AJ's ear that, hey, you could get traded to Cleveland and that scares him straight
to not wanting to get traded from Philly.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that theory.
I really like that theory.
And what do you think about trading John Mechie away?
Do you think that that's supposed to be telling AJ anything?
No, I think that's Darius Cooper.
We believe that we want to get you more snaps.
That makes sense.
That's my feeling there.
That makes it.
I think that Metchie, he was like the different.
30 work receiver.
Yeah.
Like he was like,
hey,
we want to dig out
of safety.
We want to insert
somebody on duo.
Like literally lining up,
lining him up like almost like a fullback
sometimes.
Yeah.
I think that that's,
that's what they were using METCHI for.
And then Cooper came off the injured reserve
and that's what he did against the Giants.
Sure.
That was the writing was on the wall there.
So that's why the Michael Carter deal like easy
because METI didn't really have a role at this point.
Yeah,
no,
for sure.
For sure.
I was just wondering like,
you know,
just numbers wise,
taking a guy out of the wide receiver room.
Should we be reading into that at all in terms of like,
Yeah. Not that those two players are even close to the same levels.
And it shouldn't really matter.
Well, we've got a lot to come here on the PHOI Eagles show.
Obviously, we'll have you covered up through Tuesday's trade deadline on Monday.
Jamie and Rich will be back here in studio breaking it all down.
Tune in next time.
Until then, we love you.
