Hello everybody and welcome to the PHLY Eagles post game show following an ugly defensive performance for the Eagles.
We are live from the Xfinity Lounge presented by our friends at Toyota as well as Wawa.
And the Eagles lose 38 to 21 to the Dallas Cowboys.
And for the first time in 10 years, they have lost five games in a row.
They are two and five.
We're going to be hearing from you.
Let us know what you think in the chat.
we're going to hear from Fran Duffy to break some of the big plays down,
and E.J. Smith is going to join us from the stadium,
but I got to introduce who we have for you.
In a night where the defensive line looked like it got blown off the ball,
we've got two experts here, Vinnie Curry,
Brandon Graham, Super Bowl champions,
guys who are obviously not happy about that performance.
Brandon Lee Gowden as well from Bleeding Green Nation.
Let's get into our big takeaways presented by Xfinity.
Vinny, we will start.
with you.
My biggest takeaway is that, man, the defense has got to play better.
We got to be able to stop the run.
I'm giving up 38 points.
I want to say, and Vic hold 10-year-haired, his whole run here,
his whole run here, I don't think he ever gave up that many points.
I just don't look like Eagles football.
I get it all the injuries.
But, you know, being a defensive player is about willing to want to.
and being understanding and having some fight
but I just didn't see the fight
you know and no boys tonight
and I'm very disappointed
that was my biggest ticket.
EG how about you?
I feel him.
I feel them.
You can't let 200 yards
rushing, you know, no time at all.
And we just look,
it just didn't feel good.
I mean, the opportunities we had in the game
we didn't take advantage of them
to capture a stop.
We needed to say.
stop. That's what we really needed. And we didn't get that. I mean, the pass rush wasn't there
like it normally is and them guys wasn't getting back off his spot. And you can't win a game like
that. And so I just say that, yeah, defense, defense didn't come through today. Offense, I felt like
the running game was getting there. Yeah. But, you know, we didn't get the stops that we needed to
keep nine possessions for the Cowboys. They scored on seven of them. And it was very easy for them. As you
guys talked about the run defense was was really bad givante williams 25k carries for 155 yards yeah what did
you guys see in terms of how the cowboys were winning the line of scrimmage dude the the holes was
humongous yeah like he was having any way yeah having his way which the winter last time
we gave up this many yards well the bears game on thanks black friday last year those guys
combined for it it wasn't just one of them but that's the only other time that there's been
Ruttee sense that back.
Or two of a Cowboys running back.
Well, I mean, I want to say, wait,
maybe Zeke's second year?
Like, go, oh, 10 years ago, come on, man.
This is, it's not the way we do things in Philadelphia.
The guys, when they go home tonight,
really got to understand, look, they saw for the mirror.
And listen, they got to be coming back to bullies on the block right now.
We're getting bullied.
BLG, how about you?
This was a get-right game for the Cowboys offense.
They were struggling coming into this one.
They had only 29 points combined in their last two games.
That was like the fewest total they had in a two-game stretch.
Like the Dak Prescott era dating back to 2019.
And this Cowboys run game wasn't even that good.
They're averaging 76 yards per game on the ground for dropping what, 212 on the Eagles tonight.
I kind of wonder if some of this is the attrition of this Eagles defense having to play so much.
I'm tired of, I'm tired of blaming the offense for this defense.
But I agree.
I mean, this is just unacceptable.
We're all talking about this defense being a top five kind of unit or something like that entering the year and this isn't anything close to that
You compare this Eagles defense just to the last 15 Eagles defenses
Okay, the last dating back to 2012
This is 11th in success rate 13th in EPA per drive
They are the worst of these last 15 Eagles defenses in run defense and run defense success rate
That's crazy and they're also the worst in getting to after the quarterback worst in sacks per games
They have the fewest sacks
per pass attempt of any defense in football this year.
And I know that they've been injured on the defensive line.
J. Lex Hunt's been injured.
Dylan Smith doesn't play tonight.
Jonathan Grenard has been injured all year.
But those guys up front, like those are supposed to be the best players on the defense.
And they're not impacting the game.
Yeah, it was, it was tough because nobody was getting off the block.
I mean, I and J.C.
must look like he was still hurt out there because, oh, boy, man, I hate to see him down bad like that
because I know he could put a better than that.
They're showing a bunch of plays of Jordan Davis in the.
in the run game, getting moved.
Yeah.
Jordan.
Jordan is one that got to pick it up for sure.
He got to pick it up.
It wasn't looking good for the birds today.
It really wasn't, especially on the defensive side,
because I knew they was going to come in trying to run the ball, playing bully ball.
That's what these games are.
And the next two games is going to be that.
You know, they're going to be trying to get after it.
Scataboo.
You know, then you got Washington again.
Washington next Sunday night.
You know what I'm saying?
Bad news for the rest of America.
You got to watch this Eagles team in prime time again.
The biggest thing is, you're like, listen, it's so blatanty for everyone
because when the last time we've seen the defensive line play like that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And that's where their money is on the team.
You know, I'm telling you.
And it's like where the Eagles foundation is built on offense and defense and
defensive line play.
And I just felt like we talked about it earlier, man, the officer line for them to be
banged up the way they've been banged up.
I thought they did a decent job.
Yeah.
I really thought they did a decent job on the office.
offensive line.
Especially for real.
But defensive line, you have to match that energy.
And I just feel like that energy and passion was not shown through the TV.
The way that we gave up the yards, they gave up 200 yards rushing.
And on top of that, the man was had all day.
You could play with the McDonald's and back, you know, and still do the football.
Yeah.
I was just like, oh, wow.
It's crazy to just think about for, you know, Jeffrey Lurie gets on her tonight, right?
And this franchise, we'll get to, we'll get to Jeffrey.
he deserves his plotts.
This franchise has been the best franchise in football, arguably,
for the past 10, 20 years, whatever sample you want to use.
And so much of that has been built on the line of scrimmage.
The offensive and defensive lines have been where the team has invested,
and it's played out on the field.
And this year, on both sides of the ball,
they look like the worst unit every week.
And it was crazy part is we know the potential that's on it
That deal is the line room, brother.
The potential was there.
Like, on paper they're sick.
Like, yo, they should be the best defensive line in football.
So does this look to you guys?
Like, is this a schematic thing?
Is this just a want to?
Is it like, what do you point to?
It's want to and that.
It's want to and that because I ain't going to question Vic.
Because Vic definitely has, he have you ready for these games.
Yeah.
But you got to tackle.
You got to get off block.
You know, it's those things.
I watch the game.
I'm not going to be honest.
I got to be honest, people was getting stuck on blocks.
Yeah.
You know, when you're tired to, ooh, it looks even worse because you're just going to
stand there and you're going to watch the ball and you're going to try to run and burst,
but the play is over here, you know, it's over there and you ain't making no effects.
It looks like there's no one's holding each other accountable when that film session
get turned on in the defensive line.
You know, rather it's saying it is, or like he said, getting off.
block. How fast can you get off the block? How shit can you get off the block? What your knockback
look like? You know, like nobody even take pride to it. Not that. That's used to be the one thing
and we turn that thing going. Yeah, you see the hat. Rewind that coach. Like, no, where's that at?
Now, do you think that that is coaching or player led? That's got to be player led. It's got to be
the competitive nature inside the defensive line room that we had and that this
found this organization
that built itself for and wait before us
they
where's that?
Yeah. Well listen
we have people in the chat talking about it
and I was getting messages during the game
about this. You know, the
absence of guys like Nekobi Dean
guys like you BG who
would sort of bring that fire
on the field. Are they missing that?
I don't like from
my little cozy seat here
saying the players aren't playing hard enough
but they don't look like
they're invested
as much as
we've seen them
with this group before.
Unless it's some
banged up stuff
that we don't know about.
You know,
that would be more
your lane beating in my eyes
but, you know,
because you're around
the building
more than me.
I live kind of far.
You know what I'm saying?
But it's like
I just don't see
man,
we were so competitive
in that room, bro.
I mean on everything.
Man, that it's setting the air,
getting off the block,
knock back.
Running.
to the ball.
Yeah.
Running to the ball.
Yeah.
You put the running to the ball, bro.
Like.
And they're missing, yeah, they're missing tackles.
And BLG, we were talking about like Rick Willans getting picked on in this game.
Oh.
On the outside.
That was out there playing seven on seven.
Yeah.
It's ugly.
I mean, it's, it's, it, this defense has gone from looking disappointing and
underwhelming to just not being very good, um, relative to the rest of the league.
And, you know, they give up 38 points tonight.
as we said, two stops on nine possessions and one of those like barely counts because there was
the backed up at the two-yard line and the cowboy sort of give up.
It's pretty ugly.
I know.
Let's close the book on the big takeaway.
And the bigger question now becomes, okay, this Eagles team is two and five.
It's only week seven, but it's getting late early.
And, you know, you guys both played for this team for a long time.
they're few and far between
but there are a couple
lost seasons in there
right?
2020,
2012
are we already there?
No.
Hear me out though.
Let's not all be all too much negative
there's a positive.
Last time we lost
five in a row
that's right
let the people know what happened
the following year.
Well the following
we was banged up just like this
let the people know what happened
to following year.
Yeah.
It was 2016
five in a row.
But that was Doug's first year.
Hey, we was banged up too.
And we was getting talked about.
We was getting talked about.
What was God of the brew?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Super Bowl.
That is the kind of spin that we need to hear.
Yeah.
Because it does feel like that was, even then, that was the beginning of a bit of a youth movement.
Oh, for sure.
This group, the young.
guys on this team, the very young guys, don't look like they have that necessarily.
Feels a little bit more like the end or something.
These young guys came in, they went to a Super Bowl.
They lost.
Well, I'm only talking about the last two drafts.
I'm just talking about these, these guys, this is their first adversity.
Their first time they get punched in the mouth.
Well, that's true.
Hey, that's all true.
It's the first time they get punched in the mouth.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know, everybody, remember, we were like, yo, this is their first adversity.
So they, everything ain't pitchies and yeah.
You're going to throw an apple at you.
You know, welcome to Philly.
Yeah.
It's time.
It's time to man out.
BG's got a couple apples loaded.
Yeah, for real.
Hey, BLG's got, listen, listen, this is where you grow up.
Yeah.
This is when you become a guy.
Yeah.
This is when you become a God.
This is exactly where you become a God, though.
Listen, we don't play with, come on, man.
Excuse me, I'm rocking the one today.
One is hurt, but we don't play.
Yeah, we're going to talk about that as well.
Sam Praffords to.
You name it.
What that mean?
You gave me this a line, but you got to show up.
Yeah.
Gardner Mintu.
We got to show up.
We got to show up and show out.
I bet you we,
I bet you with some edge setting.
Yeah.
Yeah, I bet you with some edge setting.
I bet you we wasn't giving up.
Yeah.
200.
Like I said, this is the worst run defense
of the past 15 years for the Eagles.
That's crazy.
You know, we, we have been spoiled.
We actually have.
I'm totally.
And even on our bad.
it wasn't as bad because at least today just felt like them boys was I ain't really got
bullied in a while from the cowboys and I think that's where we just we ain't used to seeing that
I ain't used to seeing that like the Eagles getting bullied especially on the D-line when we got
all the money paid everything was all the expectations coming into it and so I just I just
would say like what Vinny says like man dang boy they got to go through their hard right now
just they're hard season's not even halfway over yet what was that like last
I think I want to say, what was it?
Last season, we talked about Jill and Hertz having the Island-Irison effect.
Yeah.
Right?
So, and then when you really think about it, him not being at that game.
Yeah.
I do feel like they miss that aura.
Oh, man.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Like, when AI didn't play, who was going to step up?
Yeah.
No.
I think you're like, I don't think that that's crazy.
You know what I mean?
So now when you got to think about it, somebody got to step up?
Yeah.
Somebody got to step up.
Yeah.
Well, now, internally, they have to make the decision about what to do
entering the trade deadline in a couple weeks.
BLG.
What do you think is on the docket here for Howie Roseman?
I mean, they have two division games coming up, and he just, and that's before the trade
deadline.
They got commanders next week, which commanders coming off their buy, by the way.
So that's what you get with the Eagles coming off the short week here Monday, not easy.
And then the Giants who are going to be coming off their buy.
Nice.
them so not really a great scheduling yeah in the eagles favor right here but i mean i think it's
trending towards selling how could you not right like especially guys who aren't going to be here next
year right i mean although i don't know what you're getting for weak won't at this point i don't know that
rick will and did much for his trade value tonight yeah you know i think morrow is is the big one
that you wonder about because he's going to be a free agent and you know they're paying so much to
jordan davis and jillin car already like it's like a nolan yeah it sucked too no one is a possible
one because, you know, just, just looking at guys that might not get the contract or maybe be,
maybe you, you do be able to, maybe not as expensive that you, that you might think.
And, you know, it's just you never know how free agency plays out.
But yeah, man.
Let's get to a couple super chats here early on before taking our first break.
A lot of action here.
A.J. Bale says thoughts on Joe Milton starting over Tanner McKee.
It was interesting tonight that Joe Milton elevated to the backup quarterback and Col Payton dropped to the number three emergency guy.
I would, I kind of think you're giving up if you go to Joe Milton.
Yeah, I think so for sure.
I think that was just a thing to stiff the Cowboys.
Yeah, he might be right.
A little bit.
Yeah.
Cole Payton is a developmental player.
He is a while away.
Milton has played in the NFL, but I would be pretty surprised if they're going after McKee in this game.
who we will get to the offense in a little bit.
McKee was not great.
He had that interception,
but he was certainly better than he was last week,
and it looked like they had a much better plan on offense.
Now they were going up against a very bad Cowboys defense,
but McKee was 23 of 35 for 2.11, a touchdown and an interception.
Will Madden with a super chant.
3rd and 8, fourth quarter,
under center run play, easy pickup for the Cowboys.
What is this run defense?
Yeah, talked about it.
Really, really bad stuff from the Eagles run defense so far.
Philly Raj, what does this team do well?
Who is good beyond Quignan?
Beyond him, the defensive line guys just paid and expected to get money like Cooper are failing.
Whole org is to blame, no?
I think we can have some big picture conversations about the offseason that they put together this year and some of the whiffs.
I have an answer for that.
To that credit, who's seen them playing like that this year?
Sure.
I mean, I would have paid those guys.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
We ain't a fortune teller to say, hey.
Yeah, it's a fair point.
You know, at the same time,
them guys just got to understand.
You have to grow up.
This is the first time adversity struck
since they've been on this team.
I think that's the thing to bookmark.
Telling you, they're young guys.
Yeah.
And as we talked about,
we were talking about.
We got thrown in the fire.
Like, oh.
Well, and you're also talking about guys like,
you know, Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter
from these programs where they were always winning
also yeah right so just just like you want to bring in the guys who have the experience in winning
that also means that maybe they haven't dealt with losing quite as much yeah and you start to see
that's really where you see like what type of team you got or what type of people that you got on
your team because when you start losing i mean that fake anger come out not just that and all at
mummo you know fake anger fake anger you know we always say that i say that when people tired like
yeah working out and stuff it's like oh that's just fake anger man like you know
But these boys...
Like, I hate losing, but then you just go into the car
and you don't even think about it, you just go home?
No, but I think them boys,
them boys feeling it.
Jordan Davis, for sure.
And I know he don't like how he just played today.
I know he ain't going to like that.
So hopefully he can get right because, I mean,
when you get paid, everything is under a microscope.
Sure.
And so we was watching and it didn't look good today.
Yeah.
All right, let's take our first break here on the PHA by Eagles
post game show.
On the other side, we'll bring in Frantio.
Duffy to break down some of the big plays in this game.
Continue hearing what you have to say in the super chats with Brandon Graham,
Vinnie Curry, Brandon Lee Gowden.

Toyota, let's go place.
Back on the P.H.O.I. Eagles podcast,
presented by Toyota and Wawa.
Guys, let me tell you a quick thing from E.J.,
who's in the locker room.
Is Jalen Carter declined to speak?
Said, no, y'all have a good night.
You get home safe.
And then Rieke Wullen shortly after also declined to speak.
And said,
appreciate you all.
have a good night, get home safely as well.
What do we think?
That's bad.
You think guys need to talk?
Once again.
They don't want to say something bad.
No, it's not that.
This is the first time to get hit with adversity.
Yeah.
How are you handling?
Yeah.
Yeah, that's fair.
You got to be able to stand.
You got to be able to stay.
Most of the time, oh, you guys is on here.
You're going to shows as ex-players.
Y'all making excuses.
What are excuse?
Yo, this is right here.
You're face the fire.
Yeah.
Right, wrong or differ.
Especially Carter.
Yeah.
You're going to face the fire.
The highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL.
You got to get me.
You got to make that transition.
You got to talk.
You got to make that transition because if you're going to put that C on your chest,
you got to be able to stand.
Yeah.
You know, I mean, I'm not saying that he ready to take that,
but you're getting paid big money now.
And so people want to hear from you, you know, see what happened tonight.
And I know, see what happened tonight.
And I know it was a bad one, but.
the blow, you got to be able to take that blow.
And it's just, it's like, man, stand on it because at least you,
at least you didn't run from the fire like he just said.
And now they can't wait for Wednesday.
Can't wait to something.
Come see you.
And if you decline in, it's going to be a problem.
And if it was a fire, right, at least you could throw some,
right.
Throw something on them, throw some sprinkler of water.
So take me back to the beginning of your career when you did have this kind of adversity.
Like who taught you how to go through it?
You just like honestly.
I'm looking up against this dude.
You don't think he talked to anybody.
Well, yeah.
I just know I'd rather just get it over with it to just run and then had to deal with it on the day that I'm better.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And of course.
But think about what we had to talk about losing close games.
Yeah.
Like we just
Yeah
Or say
I remember I jumped off size
During the whole
Like a third down
And Aaron Rogers and him
Go down on a Monday night
And win the game
Because I jumped off sides
Gave him more possession
Gave him the first down
And they go down
And score
I'm on the sideline sick
But I know I was getting killed
That night
You know everybody on Twitter hit me
And then I got to stand
And I want to say no to the media
Plenty times I wanted to say no
To the media
But I was just like no
because you got to be able to stand on it.
You know, you got to be up to stand tall
in those hard moments.
And, I mean, why not get it over with right now?
Yeah, you know, you're right, though,
because if you don't talk then,
then you're going to wait.
You've got to talk about to Wednesday.
They're about to be sitting right there.
And when you want to move on.
Yeah, right.
You're trying to move on on Wednesday.
So.
And like I said before, what was it?
16.
16.
16.
We've been in the cell.
Yeah.
Been in the fire like this.
Yep.
This is how you build thick skin, grit, everything.
This is how the team get stronger and come together.
Right here.
Find out who you guys are.
That you can roll with.
If it don't change this year, it's like at least you kind of know, okay, he handled
their well in this time.
Who can you rely on when times get tough?
And some people are going to stay because they just got paid.
So it's like, you know, you got to manage that too because if they might not,
they might be acting a certain way during this time too that you might not like.
but it's just the end of the day they're getting paid.
And we're talking about Harvey Roseman, bro.
He could pay you today and you'd be going by Friday.
Yeah.
You'll find a way.
Damn, we traded them.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We didn't seem the craziest of the craziest.
Yeah, that's true.
Hey, what did you guys think of the Sequin and Barclay situation tonight?
So it comes out, has that great run on the first play.
Looks like he grabs the hamstring early.
But he's still involved.
Seven carries for 62 yards.
two catches for nine yards.
Didn't look to me like he should have still been on the field.
No, he tried to push through that.
He really tried to push through that.
You could tell that he was like, man, no,
especially when he did that jump.
And you've seen him.
You've seen it.
He still went there and scored a touchdown.
But even when he was running,
he was really not trying to open up all the way.
He still poured away.
And so I think he was just trying to get through the game
because he's seen that those holes was open for him.
Yeah.
The line was getting back.
He was trying to, you know, help out the best way he came.
He was.
I got to have heard or not.
Like I said, in seven carries for 62 yards, almost nine yards of carry, you know,
dude was just trying to give us his all, even though it was, if half of him is like that,
then, you know, that's, you know, that's, you know.
Well, it's coming on the heels of the Jalen thing, right?
And so I'm watching it and I'm thinking, okay, like, do they really need?
to be pushing Sequin through this, but I know that I'm not wired the way he is, and I know that
he wants to be on the field and help his teammates. Does somebody need to step in and be like,
we need to sit you down because this is going to turn out the way to turn that with Devante
last week, where you try to push through it, you're clearly not 100 percent, and now you're going
to miss even more time. Yeah. You know, it's indicative to me a little bit of an organization
that's a little bit reaching for, like, they're desperate for a win, and it's a little bit impatient.
and like are do they have the guy's best interest at mind long term but i also know that he wants
to be on the field so it's it's it's hard it's hard to say you got to protect people from people from
themselves sometimes and and yes it's as you need that guy that's going to be like no you're not you can't
go back out there right because we ain't trying to make this even worse and then like let the let somebody
else get in there and you just help him out but he's also you know like i'm sure to the point that
we're talking about it's adversity he's a count
He wants to go out there and show the guys that he's got their back and he's willing to give it as everything
But yeah, it feels to me like somebody's got to be like we well people know that people know that already
They should know that already yeah and you ain't got nothing to prove especially if you already
I'm comfortable if I know man I'm sick because yes I want to play but at the same time I'm like yeah
I'm no good if I if I can't go like how I go and I don't want to put no bad film out there either
because that's another thing
because he could be
I mean all I hear
is the trade stuff with him too
you know what I'm saying
it's like man
and that ain't smart
you know if he's not healthy
and so I just know that
Seqon I know who he is
I know he's gonna fight
and I mean you ain't got nothing to prove
it's just more of
I know you want to play tonight
and I know it sucked
that that one run
that you do break away
you just step the wrong way
and it definitely
something
some hit him
you know like bitter
right there.
It looked like he said on the sideline, it's all mental.
But then I think it got worse.
Yeah.
But it's like, it's like, it's like be saying, like, you know, you start hearing, you know,
those noises get louder.
This is really, bro.
Like, us fans sometimes, man, we'll trade swoop eyes if we need to.
You know what I'm saying?
It's like the way going on day, you know, but that don't mean we don't love you.
Well, he's getting paid too much.
That's the thing.
Yeah, you know.
So, but it's just.
It's just, you know, those guys, like he said, you got to protect themselves.
I mean, protect them from themselves sometimes because, you know, nobody wants to be in a tub while being around the club.
Right.
What did you think about the whole thing, BLJ?
I mean, I respect Sequin.
You know, I think he did the right thing.
He wants to be out there for his team.
Who would you guys say, like, who is that guy who says, no, you can't go?
Who protects the player from themselves in that case?
usually the team dot or you know like like a tom the head the head trainer um people that
i mean maybe it's somebody that you that that brought you back to life like a monte like some of
the trainers that's in there like whoever you got to relationship with schedule to your rehab like
like like scheduled to you but are you also getting pressure on the other side to be like hey i'm paying
you this amount of money i know that you could go you should go i would say it's more in our head
because it's because of how
how people say,
hey, you,
you back,
when you come back?
You know,
you get that question
all the time like,
you good?
How long we got?
Right.
And then that's what
the pressure started to come
because you'll see,
everybody's situation is different.
And so maybe this is a contract year for you,
but you can't afford to miss four games.
I can't go on IR.
I can't this because I'm not going to have an opportunity,
but you really ain't going to have an opportunity
if you don't get well and can't go out there and play.
And if you got a matter,
and it's this all year because you can't take off for four weeks to get right for the rest of the season,
then that's, it's just because people be in their mind.
Everybody deal with it differently, and everybody's situation is always going to be different.
But it's how you, it's how you dealing with that heart of, man, not fighting, not trying to go against who you are as a person because of your situation is this.
Like, sometimes people do some crazy stuff because they, they try to get this money or they're trying to get a contract.
And it's an opportunity, but they don't realize like they only do them more harm to themselves.
But sometimes even the person that's closest to them can't even tell them because they don't see it like how they see it.
You don't understand how I feel.
You know, so it's a lot of that that be happening, man.
So I'm hoping, I'm hoping, well, say, you don't let the noise be too loud because it is a lot of loud noise out on.
He's going to get traded here or he going to do this.
He's not going to be on the team next year.
all that it's all that little stuff that you start to hear
I'm hoping somebody can talk some sense into them
all right time to bring on our friend friend
Duffy here on the Xfinity mobile call-in line
Fran do we have you
there is what's up friend
going on guys
it doesn't look too happy
I'm just I know what my
morning's gonna look like tomorrow
so you know it's uh look
we go through the film and
We try and figure out.
What are the kernels of optimism that we can try and pull from it
in the ways that this team is going to try and get better here in the second half of the year?
All right.
Well, let's get a preview of your morning because I don't know what kind of optimism
you're going to see from the Eagles run defense in this game.
Let's get to Fran's film analysis presented, or armchair analysis, rather, presented
by Ashley.
Fran, let's start with that run defense, which was gashed tonight.
And I was even surprised to learn that over the course of the 15 years.
is the worst Eagles run defense by success rate that they've had.
There have been some tough ones in there, but not ones that were getting paid this
much money up front.
Yeah.
And, you know, it was a thing where after the game, I'm going through like, all right, let me,
let me look at this play.
Let me look at this play.
And try and see, can I quickly try and manufacture a theme, right?
Is there something that's some kind of through line with all of these that stood out?
And to be honest, just on first blush, there wasn't.
It was like a little thing here, a little thing there.
But one thing that did stand out over the course of the game was Dallas, look, they came out with a wide variety of personnel groupings.
They played.
And a bunch of them were extra offensive line packages where they had that sixth offensive line out there as an extra tight end.
And sometimes it was 11 personnel with the jumbo set.
Sometimes it was 12 personnel with the jumbo set.
Sometimes it was 13 personnel with the jumbo set.
And watching the Eagles try to match to that.
And honestly, Vic Fangio, he was trying to throw stuff at the wall.
It was a bunch of different personnel groupings.
As they were starting to get gash, I think he was just trying to, he was just trying to find answers, right?
And so as I'm going through it, I'm like, all right, can I pull this play?
All right, there's this 32-yarder, this 21-yarder, there's this 19-yarder, right?
I ended up settling in for like a nine-yarder, but it was kind of emblematic of some of the issues that the Eagles face over the course of the night where, you know, you come out and you're just trying to find ways to match up.
then you're even trying to change those fronts.
And we've seen Vic Fangio do that over the course of his time, right?
Where it's like, hey, you know, we're going to line up with our, you know, our basic like four two nickel, right?
Where it's just you have two edge rushers, two defensive tackles, two linebackers.
And we've got Cooper DeGine out there on the field.
But maybe we're going to change the front up where you've got like a 5-1 structure, an odd front structure here.
And that's exactly what we have here on this play.
And what you're going to see is that you've got Zach Bonner the line of scrimmage.
It is Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the game.
So that does kind of dictate that, all right, you're not going to put you.
Trotter on the edge. It's going to have to be Bonn. So Bonn is here on the line of scrimmage in this
odd front and you're kicking Jalick's Hunt inside. Jalick's Hunt coming off the injury, you know,
lining up here as essentially as a three technique, you know, there's potential here for a double
team. And that's exactly what happens here on this play. He kind of gets crashed down by this double
team. Like that's not Jalick's a strong suit. When we think of all the things that Jalick's
Hunt does well, kind of holding firm here as a three technique.
He gets washed down by the tackle and the guard.
Jalen Carter is one-on-one.
That happened too often.
We talked about this matchup with he and Tyler Booker on Thursday previewing this game.
And it just feels like that's becoming too often a consistent theme in some of these
matchups with Jalen Carter when he's going up against a guy that would be like a top shelf
guard, especially some of these young guards that he's seen.
And I talked about, hey, you know, it's kind of reminiscent of Fletcher Cox.
going up against Zach Martin and Fletcher Cox
going up against Brandon Shurf and both guys are going to
draw blood in those matchups.
Jalen's not draw enough blood on
some of these. We didn't really hear
his name too often in this matchup
but he's one on one here on
this game but the defensive line
gets collapsed too far. I get washed down.
You have a lot of room here.
Trotter ends up trying to work over
this block. Bond gets cut by the
defensive or by the tight end
coming across the formation and so you've got
a nice easy one cut here
for the back. And he's left one on one with the safety Kenny Moore. Kenny Moore doesn't make the tackle. And so now you've got a first down run there for the Cowboys. And it just happens so often. And when you talk about like the worst success rate for an Eagles run defense that we've seen, it was a lot of plays that looked just like this. Yeah, like there were the big gashes. But it was the nine yarders and the eight yarders. They were just backbreakers on first and 10 or on second and four. And it's just like, man, like you're either making things easy for Dak Prescott or, you're, you're either making things easy for Dak Prescott or, you're.
you're moving the chains.
You're just keeping these tribes alive.
All right.
I look forward to getting a little bit more info on that,
on the show tomorrow at 2 o'clock frame.
Let's talk a little bit about the past coverage.
And it speaks a little bit to sort of the flailing nature
of what's going on on defense with Vic looking for answers.
He switched the corners tonight instead of just keeping those guys on sides.
He had Quinyan to the boundary and requel into the,
or reverse that,
reek willing to the boundary
when you on to the field
and still they were finding ways to pick on
Rick Willen it felt like
yeah there was and we know like
coverage target stats like
you take that with a giant grain of salt
but this is from next gen stats
reek woolen targeted on a season high
25% of his coverage snaps tonight
against the Cowboys seven targets he gave up
five catches for a season high
111 yards it's actually a career high
for Rick Wollin a couple of those
touchdowns we know that he gave up
as well.
You know, and what's the, we talked about this, this, this Dallas offense on Thursday,
preview in the game.
We said, you know what?
The big thing, like, they haven't been able to generate explosives, right?
That was the big topic was like, you know, they, yeah, like they're, they're, they're
dinking and Duncan, but they have not been able to attack down the field.
This is another next gen stat number.
Dak Prescott threw 16 of his 27 passes.
So 59% of his passes traveled at least 10 air yards down the field.
So it was bombs away for this passing.
That was the second highest rate by any quarterback this season,
the highest rate of Dak Prescott's career.
So when you talk about just how aggressive they were being down the field,
and a lot of that is that the rush just wasn't able to get home.
And that was the big thing we talked about this on Thursday,
was that when you look at the last two games
where the teams were able to just kind of put the clamps down on this passing game,
so much of it was, you know, Todd Bowles and, you know, what you saw last week
with Jonathan Gannon with J.G, it was Blitz, Blitz, Blitz.
and you were just, Dack was on his back foot constantly.
He never looked settled.
And I didn't expect that the Eagles and Vic Fangio were going to come in and just go blitz
happy.
But what were you going to be able to do to make him uncomfortable?
And so this is a good example here on this play where, you know, they come out and you
show some kind of a pressure front, right?
You've got both linebackers mugged up here on the line of scrimmage.
So you're presenting six potential rushers here.
They respond by taking the running back and kind of putting them up in like a
sniffer alignment here right behind the offensive line.
So that gives you six blockers right here to deal with six potential rushers.
But they're going to drop out both of these linebackers.
This is just going to be basic cover three here for the Eagles where you've got those two guys underneath.
You've got Maccuba dropping to the middle hook.
You've got Cooper DeGine dropping to the curl flat.
And then you've got one, two, three.
So that's your three deep defenders here in cover three.
And Dak Prescott against a four-man rush, he's just going to sit back there and just pick this apart.
Now, the Eagles are not overly sound in their cover.
concept here where you've got a three level stretch concept to the right side to the field side.
So you've got a vertical stretch element here.
You've got your underneath route from CD Lamb where he's going to work.
Initially, he started out towards the sideline, but now he's going to work towards the
inside.
And then you've got that outbreaking route, that little sail route here from the slot receiver.
To me, Cooper D. Sheen's got to get underneath this throw.
But he gets a little bit too nosy following CD Lamb towards the middle of the field.
I don't know for whatever reason.
Like Drew McCuba is there to drive on this.
throw and he does. Like, McCuba start driving on this throw, but Cooper de Gene is too nosy here.
There's too much air in the coverage. And so, you know, they pointed out, and I'm sure this
went down as like a target against Rick Wollin, but I'm looking at Cooper DeGine on this play as well.
It's just saying like these guys are not sound enough in their coverage and just so many
backbreaking plays like this. And then you get to the catch and Rick Wollin runs right through
the receiver, Florida runs right through him like Paper Meshay and he breaks down, you know,
down the sideline. It ends up being a huge.
explosive play down the right side.
So the tackling, look, the tackling has not been really good all year,
but it was especially bad tonight once again.
And it's all three levels of the field, just leaving opportunities out there,
leaving a lot of meat on the bone.
But coverage standpoint, run defense standpoint, this defense,
I mean, this was the worst, I'm not breaking news here.
This was the worst the defense looked all season.
It was the best, the offense looked all season,
but it was the worst that this group has looked.
I feel like you have been hitting on the missed tackles all year.
You know, my witness right here.
What is he saying to me?
It was, yo, double-digit mistackles, you're going to lose every time.
Yeah.
You know, and it's like, at some point in time, it has to get fixed.
But you, or if you sit on the line of scrimmage and catch blocks,
you don't get mauled every time.
Yeah.
It wasn't no, like, like I told you, being in the top of the show,
yo, friend, it wasn't no setting no edges, wasn't no knock back.
Nobody played on the other side of the line of scrimmage.
I want to say, when's the last time you seen it?
You watch the Eagles game.
You're not seeing a tackle for loss.
Crazy.
No TFLs, no sack.
Like, no negative plays in the game.
I know why.
I probably broke a clipboard or something.
I already know what's going on over there.
Like, what the...
They got eight sacks in the season.
They played seven games.
No, I know.
It sucked because Grinard.
I forgot he got paid.
When he came over and we got traded.
Yeah, $100 million.
Two-third round picks and $100 million.
Yeah.
can't stay on the field
he looks he looks like I do
so in my basement
when we be having debates right
and somebody say something like that
but like I'm out I'm going upstairs
I'm going to stay
yeah
I'm going to go like
you're like what
no
yo listen
it's bad
yo I forgot all about that
yo listen to oh my Jesus
this is what I tell you when you came in
at least about 400 million
I know I yeah
I forgot I forgot
if that was
it's just crazy bro
and I think I said
we're talking about
a room full of hounds bg uh chris der fletch it was it was nothing but competition inside the room
and everybody embraced the competition and that's all we're telling these these guys these guys
got it they got it they just had to embrace the competition and hold each other accountable
that's it yeah but it's it's probably very hard to do when you're two and five and it feels
like the season's already.
Yeah, but,
Bo, we, and we're so big on
defensive line chat,
understand this,
defense of line can change the game.
We need nobody else.
We need nobody else.
We'll change the game.
Speed up to,
speed up to the time throw.
Yeah.
Right.
Create,
create turnovers,
cause havoc,
and still hit the quarterback.
I don't think it was a quarterback hit today.
No.
No.
Nope.
They almost got them.
No TFL, no sad.
That's crazy.
A couple of times.
All right.
Let's take a little bit of positivity in this game.
I thought one of the most encouraging things tonight was to play of Mackay Lemon,
who had by far his best game as an eagle and really did show his toughness.
I mean, he's kind of like Britt and Covey on offense where he just gets nailed all the time,
which is, I guess, the nature of the beast playing over the middle of the field.
But seven catches for 67 yards on eight targets and a touchdown.
Why don't you break down the touchdown for us, Fran?
Yeah, it was a well-designed.
play down on the goal line, a little rub route to kind of get him open and Tanner McKee put it on
him to get his first career touchdown, swooper point for Bo here on this one. Let's take a look
exactly how it happened. It starts here with Mackay Lemon lined up as the number three receivers,
the Trips formation. You see the Eagles in a condensed set. So now you're dictating to the offense.
Like, all right, you've got to be worried about kind of outbreaking routes, a lot of space out
towards the sideline. And so what happens just before the snap is that they bring McKay Lemon in motion
from number three to number one.
And so now you're forcing these guys
to have that late communication
in the pre-snap phase
just before the ball is snapped.
And so you're counting on the fact that,
all right, maybe they're not going to be able
to execute any kind of pass off.
They're going to have to play this true.
And that's exactly what happens here,
where you're going to have Duran Bland one-on-one
with Mackay Lemon.
And when Elijah Moore and Darius Cooper work upfield
and Cooper works underneath that,
that's a lot for Bland to have to try and work through.
And so that's exactly what it works perfectly here,
where you've got these.
these guys working up field. Lemon is going to sneak out underneath this.
Blan's not going to be able to get through to be able to impact this.
The only guy you're worried about if you're Tanner McKee and you're the Eagles is the linebackers
of Marvin overshone who's going to have that ability to impact this throw.
And so McKee puts this on the back shoulder for Lemon.
But if you also, if you're Lemon, you have to understand like, hey, like I might take a hit
here. And this is where he thrived at USC.
He did an outstanding job of making plays over the middle of the field in traffic, in congestion,
in taking hits and sustaining the catch.
And he takes a huge shot here from Oversone, is able to hold on to the football and then
fall forward, you know, not go down here and was able to cross the goal line for his first
career touchdown.
So good design here from the Eagles.
I would say overall, just from a Tanner McKee's standpoint, it wasn't all perfect.
He had that one drive where he kind of, he dirted two throws in a row where I'm sure
he would like to have back.
But I thought overall, the staff called a good game from a like a timing and rhythm standpoint.
They leaned into concepts that worked in McKee's favor when they're able to run the ball the way that they were.
We'll get to that.
But when you're able to run the ball that way, that allows it.
It's not third and 12 where now you're having McKee hold on to the football a little bit longer,
them being able to lean into that timing and rhythm aspect of this past game.
I thought that that played pretty well into his hands.
This was a pretty good game from Tanner McKee, all things considered.
So, yeah, I think that would be one of the bright spots, certainly.
And the play of Lemon absolutely stands out.
that way as well. Yeah, BLG, we talked about coming into the game on the kickoff show.
We would just want to see something different on offense, them embracing the fact that this
was a different group that they had. And we did see that. And it's kind of caught us by surprise
that tonight is so much about the defense. But I thought the plan on offense tonight was much
better. Absolutely. Naturally, you can't get the complimentary football when you would like to have
it. But it was encouraging to see the offense show some signs of life, especially coming
off of that Panthers game felt like they had to do something different, not just run their heads
into a brick wall like they were doing. So, you know, that is a positive if you want to take that
away. All right. Last play for us, Fran, is Sequin's first run, I believe. Yeah, it was early on in the
game and you look at it. Like, all right, like, Seekwan's back here because he just, I know he, like,
he pulls up at the very end, but just the jump cut that we see here on this play, obviously you've got
Sequan in the shotgun, riding sidecar to Tanner McKee to the left-hand side.
This is going to be same side inside zone.
So with Barclay in the shotgun, he's going to be taking this to the left.
So everybody's kind of blocking left here.
And you can see he's attacking with a downhill path initially that this is going to be like an A-gap run.
But you get the defensive tackle crossing Land and Dickerson's face.
He's present here in this gap.
And so now you get to see that electric jump cut from Seekwant Barkley.
And as soon as I saw that, I'm like, all right, like, yeah, he's still,
he's still there. Anything, any qualms you may have had about Sequin is like, oh, like, does he still
have it? To me, like, that, that juice is still evident when you watch 26 play. And so he's going
to jump, he's going to make this jump cut here. I love what Drew Kendall does on this play. He's got
hat on a hat on Jay Sean Barham on the, on the, that's the second level. Really good job here from
Jordan Milata kind of locking down the force, the defensive end. And I love the blocking down the field
from both Darius Cooper and Mackay Lemon. Both guys kind of work.
started outside and we're able to work inside in here.
Sequin does a great job of reading off of that,
and he's able to just navigate those blocks.
And then again, you see the juice to the sideline,
trying to create the explosive play,
pulled up close to the sideline.
And I was like, oh, I don't know if we're going to,
that might be it for Seekwan.
Obviously, like you guys talked about his willingness
to try and gut that out.
Hopefully, hopefully he's back on the field
by the time the team takes the field Sunday night against Washington.
And he didn't make anything worse.
I know that they announced there was a back.
back injury down the stretch as well.
But I thought that we saw some really good things from this offensive line.
I know Landon Dickerson gave up the sack late, but overall, I thought the run blocking was
pretty strong.
Now, keep in mind, this Dallas defense has not been exactly a beacon of success over the course
of the season.
So the context is important there, but it was still good to be able to see the ball go through
the hoop here against this defensive front.
All right.
Brand, we appreciate the breakdown.
That'll do it for armchair analysis presented by Ashley.
we will get much more of that on tomorrow's show
on the PHY Eagle Show at 2 o'clock.
Thank you so much.
You got it, guys.

I appreciate you.
All right.

All right, we're back in the PHA by Eagles post-game show. The Eagles are two and five.
their fifth loss in a row, following a 38 to 21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
And we call up now, the Xfinity Mobile call in line to bring in our insider, E.J. Smith,
live from the field at the link where it sounds like E.J.
You didn't get to hear from too many of the important players on defense.
Yeah, you know, I wish I had more answers for you guys coming out of the locker room and, you know, talking to Nick Siriani.
I don't have a ton of answers,
but we can go through what I do have in EJ's notebook here.
There we go.
Look at the graphic. Thank you, Lindsay.
All right, take it away, EJ.
All right.
So let's start with Sequin Barclay's message.
He had a speech in the postgame locker room to his teammates
before we got in there talking about the fact
that the Eagles have dug themselves into this hole
and that they are going to have to dig themselves out.
And Seekwine is planning on doing that.
But I think that his situation really spells out
kind of where this team finds itself
because there was a real urgency
from the Eagles to get things right in this game.
Obviously they came in losing four straight
and Sequin Barclay was clearly not 100% in this game.
He said that he tweaked a back injury actually,
a compensatory injury for the hamstring
on his first run of the game.
He actually said,
and I think this really shows you
how much he was trying to gut it out
and probably the fact that he shouldn't have been out there
is that he said he was actually the last thing he wanted
was to have a long run,
especially early in the game,
because he knew his hamstring probably wouldn't hold up to it.
So I think the fact that he was willing to play
and trying to gut it out and be on the field for this team
shows you the urgency that they had coming in
and the fact and just like how much of a blow it is
that they didn't come out of this game with a win
because of what they all went through.
You know, we talked about it in the pregame show,
Dallas Gutter playing through injury,
Jonathan Grenard playing through injury,
Jaylux Hunt playing through injury.
There were a lot of guys who kind of felt like this was a game
they needed to be on the field for
to come up short, I think is a really, really big blow.
And yeah, as you alluded to,
deafening silence from Jalen Carter and Rieckwlin in particular.
Both of those guys declined to speak to the media.
They were very nice in their messages.
They both told us to get home safe and have good nights.
So I want to make sure I give them credit for that.
But yeah, they still did not want to really, did not have answers,
did not want to answer for the defensive performance.
And I'm sure you guys have dived deep into just how shocking of a performance it was
from the defensive front in general.
Obviously, Rick Wollin also had a tough game.
Cooper to Gene had a tough game.
But I think the microscope is really on, you know,
is usually a strength for the Eagles, the defensive line.
You know, both of the both sides of the ball on the trenches,
I think this year, you know, things going sideways
has really underscored the Eagles struggles in this,
in this losing streak.
And then Nick Siriotti's message after the game,
I found it interesting.
He alluded to the Eagles being two and five in 2021
and didn't necessarily use it as an example of like,
look, we still have everything we want in front of us for this season.
He talked about the fact that that season set up what they became
the following year.
And I think that was telling, you know,
he kind of said like, you know, we have 10 more games. We'll see what happens. I think, you know, there's been almost like a subtle reframing from Nick. He talked about being grateful. You know, he talked about 10 years ago, if he was on the sideline during the national anthem, he wouldn't have cared what the team's record was or what team he was coaching, which I think kind of does tell you where things are at, where, you know, it's about, you know, appreciating the moments they have, but not necessarily feeling like this is a team that's going to figure its way out of this and, you know, kind of chase those goals that they had going into the year. So, again,
not too many answers. We can get into some of the things I did hear in the locker room,
but it was a quiet locker room. You know, when you walked in there, you could hear a pin drop.
There weren't a lot of conversations being had and not a lot of players talking about, you know,
really what went wrong for them tonight.
E.J.'s notebook. Thank you very much, E.J. Vinnie,
that's an interesting double down on the last time they won, last time they lost five games in a row
was 2016. Last time they were two and five, 2021. Maybe it's all just prologue for the
20, 2070.
Listen,
you got to go through something.
Yo, EJ, I was telling them it's the first time
this young group is faced this much adversity.
You got to go through something.
Absolutely.
You know, these guys are living in life.
They went to a Super Bowl, they went to a Super Bowl loss,
had a decent season, came back, won a Super Bowl.
This is their first time going through this.
I mean, yo, you got to put your big boy pants on.
And then, you know, it's tough.
You know, as us has a, you know,
Eagles Nations, now it's time to get on everybody's ass.
You got it on their ass, light a fire.
You know what I mean?
Put the birman down for a second.
Oh, what's going on?
Too much flossing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Let's get back to the meat and potatoes.
Bring back the grit.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And in that locker room, well, let me just say quickly to Vinnie here.
In that locker room, I think it does stand out that the voices that you hear from
aren't the ones you're used to hearing from.
You're not hearing from Jaylen Hertz.
You're not hearing from Lane Johnson.
You're not hearing from Brandon Graham, you know, players who you would have expected to hear from, you know, in these moments and players who would be able to get this team out of adverse situations.
There's a nucleus of young leaders on this team, to your point, Benny.
So, you know, it's going to be interesting to see how they navigate that adversity.
I think it's, you know, the owner should fall on Nick Siriani as well.
We talk a lot about him being a culture setter.
It's easier, I should say, to set that culture when you have a Brandon Graham and Elaine Johnson and a Fletcher Cox and a Jason Kelsey.
this is a challenge for Nick is to keep these guys on track
and keep these guys moving in the same direction
believing in this season. I totally agree with any.
So yeah, I think it's a great point.
But you said who else did I talk to in the locker?
Yes.
I heard very briefly from Jordan Davis.
I got there at the end.
Sequin had probably a 20-minute media scrum, maybe longer.
And he was one of the only people who spoke.
We heard from Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
I found it interesting that he talked about.
He did use like the Nick Siriani.
got to watch the tape.
But then also went on to say, like, yeah, they tried some different things in the second half to combat the run.
We all noticed, I think, that they use their base defense more and more as a game progressed and didn't really have a ton of success out of that.
You know, Jeremiah Charter Jr. said that they started to vary the fronts that they were using against the Cowboys run game, but nothing worked.
You know, and he said that it's about physicality.
It's about one two and that the Eagles defense came up short in those two areas.
What about on the offensive side of the ball, E.J.
Any thoughts on Tanner McKee's performance, Mikhail Lemons, semi-breakout night?
What was the vibe on the other side?
Yeah, so it was a frustrated group afterward.
Landon Dickerson spoke.
He was like despondent, you know, about the costly mistakes in the latter part of the second half where they, you know, because this was like a shootout.
It had the makeings of a shootout.
They even looked good in the third quarter.
And then all of a sudden the offense really stalled out and the defense.
just, I mean, you know, the damn broke.
And I don't even say that in the case of like,
the offense didn't do them any favors.
They couldn't get themselves off the field.
They couldn't generate a pass rush, obviously.
So, but on offense, you know, I think that Mackay Lemon was like a silver lining.
I wrote that on all p.HLY.com and the instant takeaways I put up at the final whistle.
You know, I thought that that first drive in the third quarter,
the usage of Mackay Lemon there, I think, is like the best case scenario for him,
especially as a rookie.
And, you know, I was thinking about.
about the fact that he missed all training camp.
He kind of needed some time to get his feet under him.
I think that is what you're hoping he looks like as a season progresses,
especially if you're starting to turn your gaze toward being a little bit more forward-looking
and developing players.
You know, Mackay Lemon on a shallow crosser, making tough catches over the middle of the field.
I mean, you know, I heard you say it earlier.
Like he gets like ragdolled on some of these catches, but he's so tough and he's got those
strong hands that Fran alluded to in the pre-draft process.
So, you know, yeah, I think if you're taking a positive,
I think McCoy Lemon is one of them.
But yeah, overall, I think that the offense was frustrated,
but they didn't keep up in the shootout as this game was clearly going
that direction where there were going to be a lot of points.
All right, last thing for me, EJ, since we weren't there
and they didn't show it on halftime, how was the Jeffrey Lurie celebration?
Yeah, he didn't get booed,
which I think was the first question that most people probably would have had.
I would say that there wasn't a lot of juice for it,
if I'm being totally honest.
you know, just given the way the game was going, obviously the Eagles kind of
came out of that first half with a little bit of a whimper.
So, yeah, it wasn't like, you know, overwhelming or anything like that in terms of reception.
I would say it was probably a little bit better than I thought it was going to go over.
But yeah, just still not like a lot of juice.
I mean, overall, like, I thought the first half there was a lot of energy in the stadium.
You know, I thought the day news actually was very correct to point out that I think that the fans did get up for this game.
I think that they realized what this game then and the opportunity the Eagles had.
But by the fourth quarter, obviously, you know, I thought it was very fitting.
Like there weren't even booze, you know, when the Cowboys scored and to get 38 points on the board.
Like, there's so many people had already left.
And the people who were there, it kind of just felt like they were just like resigned to the fact that this team is just where they are right now, you know, that the bottom has fallen out.
So, you know, it's rare that we're talking about these things this early in the season with the Eagles.
but yeah, I think that this is a team that kind of realizes, like,
this was their shot to turn this thing around,
and they came up short, and now it's about, again,
like probably reframing the expectations for what the rest of the year will look like.
All right, EJ.
What will the good diehards have a chance to read on all page Y.com
early tomorrow morning?
Yeah, I think I am going to really focus on the urgency that they had for this game
and how disappointing the defense was overall.
You know, I think that the way that the run game,
the Cowboys run game looked,
it's not like the Cowboys were like world beaters on the ground before this.
You know, this was not a great rushing team coming into this game.
You know, I think that that's the combination of like these guys knowing that this was
a game they needed to have and then having that performance, I think that, you know,
it's worth unpacking.
So, yeah, that's what you'll be reading about on all p.hoi.com.
I'm going to enlist my newborn daughter to help me write it,
give me some inspiration when I get home tonight.
Don't wake her up.
Oh, I'm going to wake her up.
She's going to wake me up.
You know that.
All right. Thank you, E.J., drive home safely. You get home safe now.
Yeah, y'all get home safe now. Thank you.
All right. Let's take our last break on the PHA.I. Eagles post game show on the other side.

Back in the pitch.
We're trying to have some fun here as a team is up in flames at 2 and 5 after.
that loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
A couple superchats to go through here
before we get to some little awards at the end.
Harry Mama, what is wrong with the D?
Well, Harry, that's a question
that you can take to our friends
at Forte Men's Health.
Hey, hey, bro, for real,
I did say something that was real palsy,
but I tried to skip over it.
When I said, you know, it was real palsy,
but I try to hear him to speed it up.
Doc, you're not going to believe this.
I got a hairy mama.
ZZ Adams.
How long are we going to ignore the fact that Cooper DeGine
has not been good at all this season?
I think there's, you know what?
I think at once people are being a little too hard on Cooper's Gene,
but there's no doubt that this has been the worst of his three seasons so far.
Yeah.
Whether that is the fact that he has to bounce back between safety and nickel
or anything else or if he's dealing with something, I don't know.
But there's no doubt that he's giving up more.
you know, catches through seven weeks
and it feels like he did all last year, something like that.
And has missed so many tackles.
He's been such a good tackle.
He's been such a good tackler.
No, for real.
He has.
He has.
And I just, like Vinny said,
it is they're going through their heart right now.
And honestly,
it's how you bounce back.
They got to do this all year.
They got to finish out this season.
And people are going to be watching.
People are going to be critiquing.
And for them, they're trying to get a contract.
Q, him, all these guys.
Like, you know, it's,
It's a lot of stuff.
It's a lot of stuff on this team.
A lot of decisions got to be made for sure from how we,
on who we're going to keep,
who we're going to let go.
And it's how to, yeah,
it's a lot of stuff going on.
But if I was done,
I'm just worrying week to week,
kind of finish out the right way
and trying to see where it go.
Tanner Yoho,
too many no-shows on defense,
mailed it in.
Richard Fitzwill,
says, shouldn't Nick be culpable for the effort on defense too?
I'll do respect, but I still don't really know what he does on a weekly basis for this team.
I have a bad Nick stat, I feel like.
Okay.
Eagles 0 and 8 as home underdogs in Nick Siriani era.
I've never won as home underdogs.
It's the only team in the NFL is not one as a home underdog since 2021.
Interesting.
Which you could say maybe speaks to like when you don't have the talent edge,
which is what the betting line is based on.
Yeah.
He hasn't really done more with less.
Hasn't had to do it a lot.
Right.
Maybe they only had it happen eight times,
but that's interesting.
I got some snap counts for you here.
65 snaps for the defense.
All of them played by Zach Bond,
Cooper de Gene, and Drew McCuba.
64 of the 65 for Rick Wullen.
When you have Mitchell, 61.
Then you get to the D line.
Jalen Carter put 56 of the 65 snaps.
Arnold DeBicatee,
46, a very quiet 46 snaps for Evacati there.
43 for Jordan Davis compared to 32 for Moroogamo,
which is unusual for that pairing.
And then 41 for Kenny Moore, 35 for Jahad Campbell.
28 for Epinessa and Granard is together.
26 for Byron Young, 24 for Trotter Jr., 23 for Jalick's Hunt,
and then a handful for Ty Robinson, Jonathan Jones,
and Keishon and James Newby.
Interesting that Davis played so much,
especially as the run defense was so bad.
Yeah.
Not great.
Chase Daniel Plainview.
Reich, Stuyken, Moore, and Mannion
are all two and five.
Interesting.
That's a good little nugget.
CDP.
Harry Mama is back.
No turnovers, no sacks.
WTF.
Could also be twisted
as a reason to give our friends a call.
Heathbirds.
Who's getting fired or traded first?
Hmm
You know, I do think that
If the offense had gone really bad tonight
Not that Mania would have been fired
But that we could have seen some kind of change
In the play calling situation
Or like him going downstairs or something like that
I think the offense was okay enough tonight
To keep that going
Yeah
All right, a few more super chats to get to
But first let's get to Vinny's game ball
Vinnie
Who's gonna get your game ball tonight?
Oh man, my guy got his first touchdown tonight
I'm going with Makai.
Mackay.
Seven catches for 67 yards, a touchdown.
A couple tough catches in there.
Start to a long career.
He's tough.
He's tough.
His first Vinny's being able.
He tough.
Shout out to him.
All right.
Now it's time for BG's gem of the game presented by Bucci.
Our friends at Bucci jewelry and design.
BG.
Who's the gem of the game?
My gem in the game is Jeffrey Lurie.
Give him the gym.
That's something that don't, that shouldn't go on notice because he does run a, he does run a great organization.
And I mean, he deserved it.
And so I'm hoping, you know, just to have some light right now that's shining.
That was the shining moment of tonight.
And now this is the biggest award he's gotten tonight.
VG's gem of the game.
And listen, we said on the pregame show, the single person most responsible,
responsible for the Eagles success over the past 20 years is Jeffrey Lurie.
He deserves the plot.
It's kind of funny that it feels like he's giving himself this award, no doubt, but absolutely
he deserves to be celebrated from Eagles fans.
Cori Sito with a super chat as we close the book on BG's gym.
All the talk of Masters versus Disciples yet Gannon shut down the Dallas offense and Vic
got pants.
That's true.
G.
G. did put together a good game plan.
Jaden Higgins.
He ain't got a ring, no.
I'm a Washington fan.
Prayer is up to Hertz, bro.
And you know what?
While we talk about Jalen Hertz,
we do need to talk to you about this, Vinny,
because you are the one who has been through something similar to this.
You dealt with blood clots when you were with the Jets.
Tell us what that experience was like and what you think,
even though it's not exactly the same,
Jalen might be going through right now.
Oh, man.
You just need some prayer, you know,
and some encouragement.
And knowing Jalen, like the way we know him,
him watching this game tonight, he can't wait to get back out there.
But that should be the least of his worry.
I'm just worried about, you know, getting back 100%.
How was yours discovered?
What was the process for you?
Oh, man.
So after the surgery, you know, everything was good.
But then you, like, after the surgery, you can kind of, you know,
it's kind of common.
But to go through that pain, it was crazy.
When was it like when in the arc of the
Football season was it first discovered?
In camp or okay
Yeah, and then you had to get it removed or go in blood thinners or what?
Yeah, you're going blood thinners too is all going
And then you know
Got to keep getting you know
Going to still see like all type of doctors to make sure there ain't nothing coming back
But yeah man it's a scary
It's just definitely scary
that whole season,
but then you were able to come back and continue playing.
Correct.
Correct.
And,
but mentally,
he's just like,
damn,
you know,
and I was a little older,
so I was like,
yeah,
this is the rap,
right.
Eventually.
Yeah,
so.
And was it painful?
Yeah,
when you first discovered,
yeah,
yeah, yeah,
yeah,
yeah,
because,
you know,
um,
you know,
we football players is to be tough,
bro,
so,
you know,
Pain tolerance is very, very high.
Yeah.
For that, to be painful, it was damn something right.
And I'm going to find out it was class.
Then we recorded at the right time before it traveled.
Okay.
Before you travel.
Okay, well, that's lucky.
No, before it traveled.
Before it travels.
It traveled.
Oh, okay, both.
Guys fired by both.
Jay Calderone.
Just good to see BG and Vinnie back together again.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Do you do your ship and Moxie like those guys provide?
You got one more game in you?
This is rap.
It's a rap to B now, man.
Nah, I'm living through.
You guys are looking slim.
Santiago, Tan Brady showed out.
Needed more support.
Big Tanner McKee fan.
And then Lord X. Beers said,
gave all that money to JD for him to be non-existent.
Flashes maybe two games out of the year.
Taking my hat.
I think that's a little unfair.
but there's no doubt that he got pushed around tonight.
And that's not what he's there to do.
All right, let's wrap things up here
on the PHAY Eagles Post-Game Show.
Eagles 2 and 5.
Final thoughts, BLG, we start with you.
I'm not expecting it to get better.
I think they're in a tough stretch right now
with these IMC East games here.
I talked about earlier.
You know, you got the bye week.
Commanders coming off of that.
Eagles on the short week here.
A lot of players banged up.
I don't know.
Like if Sequin's suddenly going to get better,
you know, they could really use him, but it seems like things maybe only got worse than this game.
I think things, I don't think we've hit rock bottom yet, unfortunately.
I think they've got to stop doing Zach Ertz dirty and just get him on the field and get him his catches, please.
Like this disrespect of keeping him on the practice squad is kind of annoying, I feel like, but, you know, that's how they do business sometime.
BG, over to you. Final thoughts.
Final thoughts is you're going to see who the ones that's going to step up in this because,
ain't gonna get no better if y'all don't face what it is that y'all going through and right now
it's a little storm it's a little storm but it's not the end-all b-r right now because we got so many
games we got what 11 games 11 games well no 10 games now uh 2 and 5 and so i mean man i didn't see in a run
and and you want to be you want to be playing your best ball um and hopefully we get some injury uh injuries
That injury report, man, it's too long.
Crazy.
It's crazy.
It's crazy.
We got to get some people back.
And I'm hoping that happens because you've seen him with Sequine.
Boy, he could have added so much to this game right here and not having him that definitely hurt.
And you know he still got juice left.
I don't know what people keep talking about with all that.
But Landon, landing.
Got it out.
Yeah.
Yeah, he got out there too.
You know, we need him to stay healthy.
And to continue to keep feeling better because it's all about how you feeling out there.
but that injury report definitely has to lighten up a little bit.
Vinny, final thoughts from you.
Oh, man, you got to rally together.
They got a rally together.
They'll get through this.
The coolest thing about the all this, man,
the NFCE is still wide open.
Still open.
You know what I mean?
And you're going to take it, man.
They got to go and take it.
That's my biggest thoughts.
Like I said, they got to understand, you know,
the task at hand.
really get back to, you know, the basics and the fundamentals of playing, you know, Eagles football.
Well, Eagles dropped to two and five after a 3821 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
They are now two and a half games out of first place, but I think that's a long way away from
something they can think about.
They've got to figure out how to get things right here.
Turn the defense around from being bottom quartile in the league to respectable.
Maybe they can get something going on offense,
but as you guys are talking about,
as they go through adversity,
time to find out a little bit about the character of this team
as they move forward.
We will be back with you next Sunday night.
Eagles and prime time again against those commanders.
See if they can get a win and snap this streak.
We've got the PHMY Eagles show coming up,
Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 2 o'clock.
