Hello, everybody, and welcome to the P.H.I. Eagles podcast, the postgame show after an ugly one.
We are live in the Xfinity Lounge and presented by Toyota and Wawa, Bo Wolf, Super Bowl champion, Vinnie Curry,
Brandon Leakouten of Bleeding Green Nation.com, and MJ, and we have a lot to talk about.
Fellows, a very ugly performance from the Eagles 27 to 7 against a third string quarterback who's as old as I am.
three turnovers, 10 penalties on offense.
Andy Dalton was involved for some reason.
Nick Siriani did some very questionable things.
We're going to talk about it all.
Let's go around the horn.
The big takeaway presented by Xfinity.
Remember that we have Fran Duffy breaking things down in a little bit,
and E.J. Smith live from Soldier Field in a little bit as well.
But Vinnie Curry, we start with you, your big takeaway from this ugly performance.
The biggest takeaway, man, I actually got two.
But out of the two, we have to get the safety position fixed.
Interesting.
We have to give the safety position fixed.
It don't even sound like, you know,
the birds have to get the safety position fixed.
Yeah?
But that's where we're at today.
Some ugly stuff out there, through Macuba,
left in the middle of the ocean.
on that long touchdown by Khalif Raymond,
which was the longest touchdown this defense has given up
since week four of last season.
Marcus Epps missed tackles on the opening drive.
Michael Carter was involved at some point.
Then Epps was back.
It was an ugly performance of the back end, no doubt about it.
It just seems like, dude, like every other series,
it was, every other series switching on off,
switching on off.
It just, that was just a recipe for what the hell is going on.
All right.
BLG over to you.
Coming into this game, all the talk was about,
how's this defense going to respond after they had that game last year on Black Friday
where they got bullied by the Bears.
They did not show up.
I thought they got clowned.
Van Johnson got the better of Vic Fangio once again.
And I don't want to let the offense off the hook.
We'll get to that.
We'll get to the head coach.
But I expected more from this defense.
We were talking about this defense before the season.
Like it was going to be one of the best in the league,
if not the best in the league.
and they're not even close to that right now.
MJ, over to you.
I'm looking at this box score right now
and I see Andy Dalton
0 for 1
and they pick.
He was in for three plays.
Like I keep looking at this box score.
I keep getting more upset, more upset, more upset.
Eagles fans, we were talking about patriots
and how they've been losing.
how their quarterback doesn't look too good.
The Chargers, their O and three, the Cowboys, they lost the last second.
And then we go ahead in prime time against a third string quarterback.
The last time he played was December 2023.
The only thing in my mind right now is what is Matthew Stafford going to do to this defense?
Because that's what I'm most scared of, especially him coming off a loss.
So there's so many things wrong on offense and on defense, but this was a failure.
Turnovers, penalties, the whole shebang.
It was just simply not good enough.
Yeah, the Rams come to town next Sunday.
It's going to be an interesting one.
Let's save the offense because I want to talk about Andy Dalton.
I want to talk about Howie Roseman's hand in all of this.
I want to talk about what happened there with the spotter and Jillyn Hertz having to come off the field.
What happened the rest of the second half for the offense?
The Eagles in the second half this season have been the worst team in the NFL.
We'll get to that.
But I think you guys are right.
We got to focus on the defense here.
And that's where we have to start because, as you said, BLG, this is supposed to be a good defense.
It's supposed to be a great defense.
Jonathan Grinard makes his debut in this game.
Case Keenom's out there, 38 years old.
I don't think they sacked him one time.
They sacked him one time.
And he was not really pressured that much.
And when he was pressured, he was able to find guys who were wide open on the
end. The secondary is not holding up. You know, Quentin and I mentioned had a really good game.
Two really nice plays on big money downs. But Rick Willen is getting tiki-tack stuff. The safety
is getting exposed. The linebackers are not exactly where they need to be. And the defensive line,
which was supposed to be really, really good, is getting pushed around. And there's no doubt
that through two games now, Ben Johnson absolutely has Vic Fangio's number. This was really ugly
stuff given what we saw from them last week and what we saw from them against the bears a season
ago, Vinnie.
Dude, we need somebody to step up on defense, bring them together and rally the truth,
bro, because we haven't seen that yet.
And I know we don't like the prior over spilled milk, but for me, it's looking like
Nicobie was that guy.
That hurts, bro.
It's, you know what?
And I have seen that sentiment a lot.
We've talked about it.
And I know that there are people saying it in the chat right now.
And we'll get to your super chats.
But there's a real feeling of, man, we really miss Nicobi.
This defense misses Nicobi misses his fire in the middle of the field, his ability to get guys lined up the right way.
And his ability to even tell guys, don't worry about it, flush it.
Right.
Next play.
Next play.
Next play.
We need a guy to step up to understand.
Listen, our defense is very young.
You need a guy to step up and just tell him next play.
Next play.
Ben but don't break.
I didn't see none of that.
I didn't see no sense of urgency today.
I've seen guys lost in the saws.
I've seen mistackles.
I didn't see the effort that we usually see
from a Philadelphia Eagles defense.
Now, it is fair to say that this is relatively consistent
with what we've seen from Vick's defenses
in the beginning of the season each of the last two years.
They have not been great in September.
It has taken Vick and the guys some time.
We thought,
that because there were so many holdovers here,
it was not going to be the case this year.
But this game reminds me of the Bucks game from two years ago.
That was in September.
It reminds me a little bit of that Giants game from last year
when Jackson Dart and Scadaboo run over them.
Even the Bucks game from last year when they won,
but they gave up a lot of points.
I have to believe they're going to get better on defense,
but some of the individuals,
especially on the defensive line,
where it shouldn't really take time for them to get used to the skis
team, they just don't look ready right now.
Man, we just, like I said, we look a little stale.
We look really stale.
And we always talk about energy or feeling
and doing watching the screen.
Didn't fit.
Nobody jumped out.
You know, maybe Q.
Sure, yeah.
I thought Q was very good.
Dude is one person.
And, you know, he's kind of quiet.
So it's like, you know, he's going to do his job
and do his accent from him, but we need some guys
to really stay.
step up and really gather the troops.
This just didn't look like Eagles football tonight.
Case Keenham finishes this game, 24 of 34 for 247 yards, two touchdowns, a 110.8
quarterback rating.
It's the best game he's played in the NFL since 2019, at the very least.
And that's the drop touchdown there, too.
That's right.
Yeah, they should have put up 34.
Like, Roman Dunsey drops a stone cold easy touchdown.
and then, you know,
Q gets the pass breakup on fourth down.
This was, I mean, how do you feel BLG big picture about the defense?
Do you have hope?
You guys know how many sacks this offensive line has through three games?
The defensive line?
Yeah, defensive line only.
Two.
Two?
Six quarterback hits.
It's two, right?
Six quarterback hits.
That's it?
That's it.
In three games.
And what?
Like, I think two holding.
And no takeaways.
And no takeaways.
And you pay you the amount of resources.
They put into this defensive line, specifically this offseason when you paid Jalen Carter, you paid Jordan Davis.
They're going to lose Morrow Jummo after this year.
Right.
But he's going to get a big contract.
I just can't believe it.
And they looked great in the summer, right?
We saw them in training camp, or at least there were signs where you felt like they're going to look better than this.
I can guarantee this.
After today and tonight, you won't see the D line look like that again.
You think so?
No.
But why should we believe that when they didn't play that great last week either?
And they had all this week to be told by Vic,
this is what you guys did last year against the Bears.
Now, Vic is going to be told by Harvey Roseman.
You think they're going to make a change?
I don't know about it.
It's going to be a lot of fire under some masses out there.
Yeah.
You know, I don't know about change, but listen,
competition breeds competition.
And right now in that room, I don't see the competition.
I like that point.
I like that point because this week,
What we're going to hear. A lot of Eagles fans are going to say this.
Where is Jeremiah Trier Jr? They're going to say that. Where to ask? Hey, where is he at?
Because he's a guy training camp had an amazing training camp. People already looking at in the Kobe Dean and saying, we could have had that guy if y'all stayed patient and let the guy rehab from his torn Patel attendant. Now we get it's a business.
but there was a legit competition.
Jihad Campbell, Jeremiah Tried Jr.
And now I feel like we're at a point that you bring in Trot to see what he can do.
Like to have this performance primetime where you knew what the bears are going to do,
they were going to try to run the ball and then dink and dunk with Case Keenan.
Now, Case Keenum, to his credit, he was making some throw.
and he was even getting hit.
J. Lick's hunting to hit him,
a couple of quarterback hits,
and he was still, still throwing dots around there.
But I'm looking to see a spark,
like you said, Vinny, like,
Jeremiah Tried Jr.
I would love to see what he can do.
Like, don't just sit him on the bench
just because he's a late draft pick.
And because your draft Jod came with first round,
let's see.
What do you think, PLJ?
Well, Vick's usually not afraid to do that.
You know, he's usually not beholden to,
to you know we saw the brace off the resources um it's tough i think i'm not quite there yet
yeah i think you have to invest in jihad still like because i think he can be better but who's the
better player right now it might be trot trots are really good player it might be we don't we don't
know that i think part of the reason that jihad looks like he's struggling right now is because he
didn't get the reps that he did the second half the last season when nicobee was balling and
i understand nicobe is playing great with the raiders the eagles let him go the minute they
drafted Jehad Campbell, right? That's just the unfortunate reality of them having to pay these guys.
Right. It's not great. And you see his absence for sure. But I also, I don't think that that is
the problem with the defense right now. I put it more on the defensive line. That's where the
resources are. Those guys need to be better. Like I said, tonight, tonight starts up front,
defensive line and in the back end. Yeah. The safety position. Did you, did anybody hear any safety
name get called tonight? Not in a good way.
You know, listen, those things mirror together.
It's also, it's easy to forget with this game,
given how lopsided it ended up,
and we can close the book on the big takeaway presented by Xfinity.
This game was 10-7 at halftime.
Eagles had the ball.
And we had the momentum.
Coming out.
They just scored a touchdown right at the end of the half.
An awesome play by Jalen Hertz.
And it's 10 to 7, and the defense now, the offense,
which we will get to, stinks it up in the first couple of possessions.
but the defense gives up a field goal, a 71-yard touchdown drive,
they get one-threat and out,
and then they give up another 52-yard touchdown drive.
Like, they're not, they are, I,
the offense had real issues tonight that were not indicative of the way
that they were playing performance-wise.
I feel like they, they stepped on their toes a little bit,
they had penalties, they had turnovers,
they had Andy Dalton involved.
They were moving the ball well.
Right, right.
The defense is,
much more concerning to me. The defense needs to be better than it has been earlier in the season.
And other than believing that they're going to do what they did the past couple of years,
I don't really see why we should believe this can be a top five unit.
I mean, you got to look at it. Like, coming in to Philadelphia, do you think Matthew Stafford
fear anybody on that defense? No. It doesn't need to throw Quinn on. He doesn't need to throw
a Quinnian. But here's my thing. Since when? Do you know,
Come to Philly, it ain't not fairing nobody on defense.
It's a problem.
Yeah.
It's a freaking problem.
They were supposed to be fearing Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis.
So I'm with y'all if, a, second year guy, Jehide Campbell, A.
Let him work.
Jayce had a damn cash on.
You know, so we're going to say, you know.
Yeah, and he had some flashes tonight.
But down in, down out, you know, he's playing a lot of snaps.
But, you know, he's not really affecting the game in a macro sense that much
right now. Not for the run game or the run defense to be as bad as it's been. You face the commanders,
the Titans, the Bears, giving up over 100 yards every single time. And I get it with the Bears.
Like, all right, they have a good rushing attack, but even like these explosive plays, like against
the Titans giving up that, you know, big run, commanders. I know they signed Austin Eckler,
but they don't have a running back room that you're like, wow,
like, now you're by the face, Karen Williams and Blake Korn.
That's a, that's a dynamic duo.
So, again, like, I'm with y'all the defensive line,
but they've got to stop the run.
It's also, I mean, it's true that this is a,
if styles make fights, whatever it is, you know,
Ben Johnson does seem to have Vick's number.
It happened in the game last year,
and then it definitely happened this year.
I mean, he's got case keen, but you saw you saw Vic kind of like he sends Rick Willen on that corner blitz at one point.
He's searching for answers.
You can tell that Vic is doing things he doesn't usually do because he knows he's sort of on the back foot by Ben Johnson.
It, you know, maybe that's, maybe that's an optimistic take that this is just a Ben Johnson thing and not a Vic thing.
But they got a lot of work to do.
And having been, you know, on these flights when you have to come home after getting beat up,
what does that like?
What are they talking about in the locker room?
What is that feeling like?
I know the defense ain't going to be talking.
You know, it's going to be like that.
You know, offense will probably be a little.
You don't want to be heard.
Yeah.
You know, because it's one of those when you know better,
you know better.
Like, damn, if I could get that one play back.
Damn, if I can not slip on that play.
Damn, can I get that.
But, you know, you are who you are when you put it on.
on take also
then you got like you said you got
Matthew staff a pissed off Matthew Staff for coming into
to town yeah it is like come on man this is
you're talking about bad timing
this bad timing bro like this is insane
okay we're gonna get to the offense
but before we do that we have to talk about Nick Siriani
oh boy it's 20 to 7
with three minutes and 22 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Eagles are down 13 points,
and they have fourth and one at their own 49,
essentially at midfield.
And they line up in a tush push formation
and try to draw the bears off sides,
and don't then call time out when it doesn't work,
and then go for it on fourth and one.
They take the penalty and punt the ball away.
The deep irony of that,
given what Nick Siriani was seen yelling earlier in the game
to punt that ball down to 13 points,
fourth and one at midfield,
and then they get the ball back on their next possession
and go for it on fourth and five from the 46.
A five-yard difference
with three minutes of a difference of the game clock
to have to go on fourth and five instead of fourth and one.
Jalen Hurst does an interception.
T.J. Edwards gets them on that drop in the blitz again.
What are they doing?
act like you want to win the game.
I thought that was absolutely embarrassing from Siriani.
Absolutely pathetic.
Now, do you think that was?
And you saw how Matt Jalen was.
Jalen could not believe they didn't go for it.
And it looked like Nick would have been saying it was like a long one to go for it.
But like, come on.
So then don't tush push.
Go for it.
Right.
Like you said, if y'all saw what Nick Siriani said to DeMargo Jackson after that hit on Jaylon Hertz,
to go out and say that you, people.
word to then later in the game do exactly what you were talking about another guy.
That was a scary move.
And it shows do you really have belief in this offense belief in your guys?
Because that's the biggest issue like,
4th and 1 down 13 points.
Give the ball to Smitty.
Give it a board of McCoy Lemon.
Pass this thing.
Give it about the dog.
Tape me a week.
Like, what's the word?
What's the issue?
I mean, truly, in, in 2026, I cannot think of any team that would be punting on fourth
and one in the second half down 13 points from the 50 yards.
Well, the other part that's insane.
That frustrates me about it is like, what game are you watching, Nick?
The Bears on their previous three drives had field goal, field goal touchdown.
So why do you think right now your defense is like, oh, we trust them, they're going to make a stop
here?
No, like you can't trust your defense right now.
Lean into your offense.
Yeah.
And he just doesn't have that sense.
It's fake tough guy stuff.
It's faux aggression.
It's weak.
It's really, really weak.
It's inconsistent as well.
All right.
Let's get to the superchats because I know everybody's fired up
and we've got a lot of them.
Let's run them through.
D. Moormack.
This offense was worse than any Petulow performance.
If not better, after London, when do we strip Mannion
of play calling duties?
He looks lost.
Well, here's my stat for you.
Okay.
The difference between.
between the first and second half for the Eagles this season.
If you just look at their performance in the first and second quarter,
it's only been three weeks,
they are a borderline top 10 offense.
They are ninth in success rate and 11th in EPA per drive.
In the second half, they are arguably the worst offense in football.
32nd in success rate, 30th in EPA per drive.
It's a more drastic split than it was last season,
but it's the same trend as it was last season
where they were much better in the first half
than the second half.
There are a lot of new pieces.
I don't know what is to blame for that,
but they cannot figure out
halftime adjustments
or what other adjustments are going to be made against them.
It doesn't really make sense to me
that it would be a Jalen Hertz thing.
I don't know what is in the bones there,
but they have been so bad in the second half.
It's crazy.
I just don't understand.
and it was definitely, you know, you think back to last year,
Buccaneers game and the Eagles, they were great in the first half,
come the second half, zero passing yards.
And you're seeing this season, Cowboys game, Cowboys game.
21-0.
You lose a huge, huge lead, and you're seeing the same thing this season
where they go through these lulls, three-and-out, three-and-out, three-and-out.
and the issue is this season compared to last season,
your defense last season was better.
So it can help you out when you're three and out, three and out, punt, punt, right?
Three, three and outs to start the second half for the offense.
It was, it was bad.
They did this against the Titans, against the commanders.
Like, they would have these lows.
So unless you have a top five defense, a top three defense to help you out.
And even still, like, you have the playmakers where you shouldn't have these
lulls. And what is
maddening is they looked when they were
not stabbing themselves in the foot
they looked really good in the first
half. Yeah, they looked. They were, a Sequin
looked awesome. He had three runs
of 10 plus yards. They were actually run
blocking for him. Jalen looked good
in the first half. I think his quarterback rate
was over 110. He was really
good and then it just
disappeared.
I don't know.
All right. More super chats. Sam G.
You are right, Justina. I thought fourth and
broke me, then fourth and five, I really understood pain in watching this crap.
Justina says, worst part of the game was fourth and five after fourth and one.
Amen.
If I were the journalist, my pointed question would be, Nick, why are you such a little P-word, as you put
it before, MJ?
Rivera, kept Nick and Mannion over stout.
We're going to be thinking about that one for a while.
Heson.
Campbell, Maccuba, screens, penalties.
penalties, Rik and Ringo holding, tank fumble, Ojimo jumping, all tendencies.
It's the whole damn team.
Ten penalties in this game for the Eagles, more than all but one of the games they played last season.
I think BLG, you have a line prepared for this?
Do I?
Doesn't look like a very detailed team.
No, they don't.
And obviously, Nick Sriani has accomplished a lot more than Ben Johnson.
But in a game where you're looking for a discernible edge from your head coach.
I saw the Bears get that tonight.
I did not see the Eagles get the discernible edge
from the coaching tonight,
especially from some of these big picture decisions.
We already talked about the fourth down.
And we can talk about this later.
I don't know if you want to get to it now,
but the maybe lack of timeout
when Andy Dalton is in the game,
Dylan Hertz is in the medical tent.
I just didn't feel like the head coach
was in control of this game.
You feel like Chicago just wanted it more
and they play way harder.
They were ready for the jump.
They were more prepared for sure.
And they were the team
that blew out the Eagles last year.
Yeah.
Papa Taco was with you.
Says frankly they got straight up outcoached
on both sides of the ball.
Papataco.
Papa Taco.
Daddy Casedia.
Alex Schlesinger.
Such a weird game.
Horrible calls against the birds
feel like it was lost
after the roughing Dalton pick.
No excuse for the defense
to look like this.
Let's talk about that play
because I think it is probably
aside from
a few other things.
I think it's probably
what we will remember.
most about this game.
So the Eagles are going down.
Jalen hurts.
This is their first really moving the ball drive.
They're in the red zone.
Jalen scrambles and gets hit out of bounds.
You know, close to out of bounds, but he was out of bounds.
It was a roughing penalty.
And he goes flying and lands on his back and his head hits the ground.
He's down for a minute, comes up, comes back into the huddle, ready to go, and gets
pulled off by the independent spotter.
Were you, you were still in the league when the independent spotter first started, Vinnie?
Yeah.
Have you ever dealt with it?
No.
They never worried about you.
No, no.
No, but even if when, when any dog got in there, he was in there for what you say, three plays.
It's first and goal from the one.
Right.
After the second play, bro.
Everybody, first of all, we're all saying, just run the ball.
You can't throw it.
You can't.
You can't.
The squad was out the game.
So you knew what, not.
times out of 10 that was going to be a pat.
There's so many things wrong with having Andy Dalton in the lineup, in the play.
On the team.
On the team.
First of all, if I was Nick Siriani, I would have called three straight timeouts to give
Jalen Hurts time to come back.
He was begging to come back.
It's the first half.
You don't need those timeouts.
You're absolutely right.
You don't need those timeouts?
He was saying, if you're going to pass the ball, call timeout first.
Right.
Exactly.
I heard I saw jela hurts he was mouth and where's my effing helmet give the man some time to come back and then after you blow your time mouths if he's still not available okay but then also you have Cole Payton that in preseason was running amuck wasn't afraid of contact I would have loved to see a touch push with Cole Payton but to just sit there and he's in active he couldn't be he's not allowed to play to sit there and have you know Andy Darwin first
First place, we knew we were cooked when Andy Dullin was, we knew it.
I mean, the interception Andy Dilton throws is one of the funniest things you'll ever see.
Because that defender never moved.
Yeah.
It was standing there the whole time.
It wasn't deciding, disguising anything.
And Andy Dalton just throws it right to him.
And you know what?
That's exactly what the Eagles deserve.
Yep.
Because this is exactly what we have seen from Andy Dalton since the first practice we saw him
the spring. I'm sorry, we have been yelling about it. We have been like making a fuss about it.
And people are like, oh, it's not a big deal. He knows what he's doing. He's here to learn the
offense. No big deal. And guess what? This is exactly what we've seen from Andy Dalton.
The whole time, it is maddening. And this is, this is absolutely on Howie Roseman. I'm sorry.
You know, whether you think Tanner McKee got worse or whatever, that's fine. You see what
Case Keenham is doing on the other side.
You saw what, you know,
Josh Johnson did to the Eagles in the preseason.
How we wanted to say, you know,
we remember what Nick Foles did in 2017.
And he had a really bad preseason,
and people don't remember that.
And, you know, the arc of history is long.
I'm sorry.
We watched Andy Dalton the whole way.
They dragged this thing out into the middle of practice in week one
before finally deciding on Andy Dalton,
the favor for the 39-year-old.
And this is what they deserve.
It's why we've been yelling about it all summer.
It's ridiculous.
Yeah, and in defense of Andy Dalton, I mean, he's probably bad anyway.
Yeah, it's not his fault.
He stinks right now.
But they also didn't prepare him for the season as much as they could have if they were
going to ride with him.
You're absolutely right.
So, like, I'm not, again, I'm not even trying to defend him because I think he's just bad,
but it's not just his fault is the point.
Like, we can all clown on him or hate on him, but you have to blame the people who put
him in this position.
Really bad stuff.
Really bad stuff.
As a veteran, though, that passed, I don't know.
I don't know what I don't know that.
Yeah, it was two-on-one.
Two Chicago defenders in the area in that window, you know, even if you tuck it and run,
we could live to fight that, you know?
And isn't this the value of a veteran to know, like,
now's not the time that forced the ball into coverage?
Maybe just, you know, get to fourth down.
Unbelievable.
He can feel, well, I can only imagine what Jaylon Hertz was feeling.
That's what I was just going to ask you.
Can you imagine what he was thinking?
In the 10, trying to get out there.
You look out, pick.
What the heck?
Don't let him throw it.
Don't let him throw it.
Don't let him throw it.
I mean.
Would have been a 97-yard touchdown drive if they had.
Truly just desserts.
This is exactly what they deserved.
I mean, unbelievable stuff.
Drip Sensei.
Defense is an absolute joke this year and we really need to apply the same pressure on Vic
like we did on the offense all last year.
Worst game I've seen as an Eagles fan in all my life.
Whoa.
Defense zero turnovers through three weeks.
That is true.
Pat Fienis.
Eagles out game the Bears in the first half,
then promptly went back to conservative early down approach after halftime
and the game went down the drain.
Will Madden.
Summer of Andy Dalton QB2 costs us a game.
Woe Bolf.
The league has to invest in concussion spotters for the concussion spotter.
Oh, I like that.
Also, Mannion, please stop calling wide receiver screens.
It's a self-inflicted sack.
McCoy Lemon, his third catcher the season.
for negative yards.
Or if you count the backwards one, which should count.
No other wide receiver in the NFL has more than one of those this year.
Dude, I feel like we, every game has been same play.
It's never worked.
It's never worked.
It didn't work in training camp.
It didn't work in the preseason.
It didn't work in week one.
It didn't work in week two.
It didn't work in week three.
What are they doing?
I feel like they're trolling me.
I feel like they're trying to insult my intelligence and act like.
Yes.
I haven't seen this happen repeatedly.
You guys don't really know ball.
It's not work repeatedly.
It's like, no, I'm smarter than you.
I know football.
Yeah.
I got eyes, brother.
It don't work.
And as you said, Vinny, they're relying on Zachertz.
Yeah.
Coming into his first game,
hasn't, you know, hasn't had contact since last December to hold up a one-on-one block on the outside on a play that everybody knows is coming.
Yes.
Anytime you go emotional.
All right.
We got to take a break.
settle down on the other side.
Fran Duffy is going to join us to break things down
from a scheme perspective.
We'll get more of your super chats.
We'll hear more from Vinny.
We'll hear from EJ Smith to tell us what's going on
in the Eagles locker room.

Fran Duffy from the Duff Cave.
Fran, how you doing?
You're muted.
Come on.
Rookie mistake.
Penalty.
That's the 11th flag of the night.
Yeah, well, look,
I'm 10 behind the Eagles,
so I'm feeling better about myself.
Okay.
Before we get into the plays,
you're going to break down,
give me your overarching takeaway from that performance.
Look, it's disappointing, certainly on the whole, right?
I mean, the fact that on both sides of the football,
we've got plenty that we can kind of talk through
and kind of second guess or just kind of ruminate on.
To me, the defensive performance,
probably more disappointing than what we saw offensively.
But, again, plenty with the offense,
as we'll get into as well, both tonight and tomorrow
on the film recap show.
but just yeah I would say the the number one word kind of walking away from the game
would be disappointing.
I think that's potentially understating it.
I think you're right though on the Xfinity mobile call in line.
All right.
Fran, let's now do the Ashley's armchair analysis and take us through what you want to talk about.
I think we're starting with Saquan Barkley and the running game actually looking pretty good.
Yeah, and this is just hot off the presses from next gen stats.
So Sequin Barclay, he's got 15 carries, 82 yards in this game, three explosive runs.
He only had one the first two weeks of the season.
He had that 42-yarder back in week one against Washington.
Ran for 73 of his 82 yards in the first half.
So in the second half, he had four carries for nine yards minus 0.9 yards before contact per carry in the second half.
A 5.4 yard per difference from the first half.
So obviously the volume was there, but the efficiency and the explosiveness were absolutely there in the first half and were absent in the second half.
And let's just go, I'll start with the positives and we'll just go early on in this football game.
And this was very early on, it was apparent.
Like the Eagles are going to get what they want to get on the ground in this game.
Like they were able to move the ball with such ease in all the different run concepts in the playbook.
So very first one, it's a first and 10 run.
We know the issues the Eagles have had running and throwing and throwing.
on first down so far this season.
But this is just going to be an under center stretch zone play
where you're going to get Sequin Barclay in the backfield going to the left.
But look at the job that you get from the offensive line here.
And everybody up front does a phenomenal job here
where you're going to get the initial kickout from Jordan Milata.
Again, stretching the front side.
You're going to get Cam Juergens.
He's going to release up to the second level to the linebacker does a phenomenal job.
Drew Kendall, one-on-one with a defensive tackle.
He does a great job.
You've got Tyler Steen at right guard.
He does a great job.
We'll just see how this all kind of comes to comes to fruition here.
You've got Cam Jurgens.
Again, one-on-one second level.
This is bread and butter for Cam Jurgens.
This is what we've come to expect from him going back to that Super Bowl year.
Again, you get the good kickout from Jordan Milata.
I want you to watch Kendall here on this play because Kendall ends up steamroll in a defensive tackle.
You've got Jurgens hat on a hat up at the second level.
You've got receivers blocking out front.
Jordan's got his guy covered up.
Tyler Steen's given great effort down the second level.
are in the second level.
So just across the board, everybody did a phenomenal job.
They were running the ball.
And that's the thing, too, is that a couple of those plays came back on penalties.
Needless penalties on the backside of some of these plays that had no impact on the outcome of the play.
And so what we saw from Sequin in the first half, it could have been even more.
And that's the disappointing part, I would say, for the offense is just what went into the plan of attack in the second half.
And you guys talked about like the screen passes, you know, just kind of going through the play-by-play as, you know, as I was listening to you guys talk.
Like they come out in the second half and the first two drives got tanked by second down screens.
One to Sequan Bartley for minus two and then the one to McIlleman that went for like minus three.
And so that forced him to third and long.
And they had all kinds of issues on third and long.
That's what we talked about last week, guys.
It was awesome that Jalen Hertz looked like he did on third and long last week against Tennessee.
But you can't count on that.
There's a reason why those performances don't happen all that often.
It's because it's very hard to do.
And so when you go up against a Dennis Allen defense
and all the different things that they're going to do that he's going to do to you
from a conceptual standpoint, like putting stress on your protection rules
and all the different stunts and twists and front alignments
and guys mugging up in different gaps,
it's a lot to sort through.
And the Eagles were not able to do that at a high enough clip here in this game.
75% rushing success rate for the team in the first half.
25% in the second half.
Yeah, I mean, just brutal, brutal.
But again, so then when you have that lack of success on first down, second down,
then we get into those the same very familiar third and long situations where now
it's pure dropback, you know, all the stuff that you're hoping to incorporate into this
offense, all the play action stuff, like all that stuff goes out the window when you get into
third and eight, when you get into third and 12.
And now that's when Dennis Allen, like this defense,
That's when they are at their best, in my opinion.
And we saw a couple of examples in the second half.
And these are two plays from the former Eagle, the Chicago native, in T.J. Edwards.
And we're going to go to it here where you're going to see a bunch of guys up on the line of scrimmage.
And on this one, you're going to get a free runner at Jalen Hertz.
Typically you see when you've got these mug fronts, these exotic fronts, is for the offensive line, an ideal world, you're going big on big.
So you want an offensive lineman to account for the four defensive linemen plus one.
And so you've got Jordan Milata, Cam Jurgens, you know, obviously Drew Kendall going across the board.
Your four defensive linemen are right here.
One, two, three, and then you've got your fourth one.
Or you've got the fourth one over here.
Now, what you've got is that Jordan Miley is going to kick out.
Cam Jorgans is going to, he has to respect here, T.J. Edwards.
And what I don't love is that because basically when you've got these kind of fronts,
you kind of have to decide where are you sliding and the back is usually going to operate opposite of the slide.
And so right now when you've got this head up nose tackle right here, Shepley ends up going to going to the right side, which is fine.
But what they end up doing here, and that's what this is what I don't love is that you've got Juergens who's kind of put in a tough spot.
He's got to respect T.J. Edwards here.
And Edwards does an outstanding job of bluffing on this blitz here where he's going to go a couple steps.
And he waits a full two or three count before dropping out.
underneath zone coverage, but they cut Austin Booker free.
And he's, I don't know, like probably their, maybe their best pure pass rusher,
if not their second best pure pass rusher.
So you cut him free here and you got Milita setting out against the defense event.
So you're kind of choosing, okay, we're going to cut him free and we're going to block
with the furthest man outside.
In my opinion, you're either going to say, all right, we want to insert Will Shipley up on
T.J. Edwards and have Jurgens set out this way.
or you want to full slide everybody,
and then we're going to cut this guy loose
because he's furthest away from Jalen Hurts.
So I didn't love what the call was here on this play.
And obviously, you end up cutting Austin Booker loose.
He comes in clean.
So now Jalen's going to try and put this to the backside
to Zach Gertz here on this one.
And Edwards reads this the whole way.
He ends up dropping out in the run of the zone.
And Jalen's lucky that this was not picked off.
This was one of the first targets of the night for Zach Gertz.
Great job there from T.
T.J. Edwards, and as we know, that was kind of an omen for what would happen a little bit later
in the night when you've got, again, another loaded front. You've got seven guys down in the line
of scrimmage here for the Eagles, and you end up dropping a bunch of these guys out,
and they just had trouble navigating through this for much of the night. Sometimes it was
full cover zero pressure, sometimes four were rushing, sometimes five were rushing, and you
had a bunch of guys dropping out, and Jalen just had trouble sorting through it. T. J. Edwards
ends up picking this pass off, and I know this was a big topic on the broadcast, and on social
media afterwards was tj edwards uh ain't on the huddle but you know that's uh part for the course
these are the kind of chess chess matches that uh that'll happen on the field they're in game
you don't think that's the thing dude if you listen to that play and remember that play that is
impressive or if it's uh if it's a packer's call and they know it from being in the division
with with you know manion brings over the verbiage is is could that be something oh wow wow
i don't know can be something let me ask you this vizabeth
from a, I've heard guys say both things that, you know,
halftime adjustments are real or also we make too much of it.
There's really not that much that can be done in the frenzy of 15 minutes.
But given the way that the bears clean things up on defense and the Eagles absolutely fill
apart, do you feel like halftime adjustments are a thing?
Absolutely.
I do.
Like, you understand.
Like, we went to the half with the momentum.
come back out and a half
three and out
three three outs in a row
and look what they found holes
yeah they found holes
you know the people upstairs
up top then you know they get
they get paid too you know why
the D.C. is coaching the game the guys next to them
get paid for the other day coach look at this look at this
you know find the mistakes and take advantage
of it and I just think they did that tonight
we saw
we saw that same play
friend he dropped the pick
Yep.
The same mug up, drop out.
We used to come up.
We had to play like that, like mug fire zone or something like that.
Like the same play mugging, drop out.
Mugging, drop out.
Yeah, and this is something like, remember last year,
a big theme that we saw early on in the season
was a lot of drop eight coverage against the Eagles and Jalen Hertz.
And I think a lot of what we've seen,
a lot of defensive coordinators trying to do against him
is, hey, we're going to put a bunch of guys up in the line of scrimmage.
maybe it's not as extreme as drop eight,
but the act of like the dropping defenders,
that is something that he has struggled at times
to be able to kind of sort through in the quick game
when it's third and seven,
if it's third and eight and say like,
all right,
they're trying to call a play to get six, seven, eight yards,
that that can be something that can be a little bit difficult for him.
That's why, to me personally,
there were,
I think it was like the second one of the second half.
So getting into the third quarter
and they're getting ready to have their second three and out,
just throw a deep ball.
You got to do something to try and force them out of it.
Like get on the aggressive.
And they didn't show a replay of it.
But Aikman did say, hey, they wanted a shot play on this play.
And I'm trying to remember the outcome of the play.
But absolutely they did not convert.
They wanted a shot play there.
At least they tried something.
So I'm interested to see what the concept was that they tried for on that.
But that would be a way to try and get them out of it.
If you think that that's what they're trying to do, then let's throw.
And you guys know how much I don't like this.
in, you know, we're on a regular basis, but like, all right, let's throw the one-on-one
fade ball, right?
Like, oh, you got to do something to try and see if you can force them out of it.
Yeah.
And you know, as well as I do that, now that Jalen has shown susceptibility to that,
he's going to see it a lot moving forward and we'll see what happens.
All right.
Other side of the ball, Fran, brainiac bully ball, as you described it during the week on the
PHA Yagle show, showed up in a big way tonight.
Yeah, and look, the, uh,
a lot of the numbers for Case Keenum, you know, kind of get inflated by some of like the little push passes.
And one of the plays we're going to break down here, the Luther Burden touchdown, the opening drive, you know, where that's essentially an extension of the run game.
And that's what this play is.
Well, let's just go to it here because the bears come out.
It's third and two, and they come out and empty.
And you've got, it's 11 personnel on the field where you've got D'Andre Swift, he's lined up to the far left of the formation.
You've got Roma Dunzee.
you've got Kaleef Raymond, here's Luther Burden,
here's your tight end, Colston Loveland.
So you've got three receivers over the right side.
It's a heavy look for what's going to,
that's absolutely the past strength here.
But it's going to end up being a run play
through the opposite A gap and not a QB run.
And so this is just really well designed
from the Chicago Bears here,
where you're essentially going to call,
you want to call this like a version of a trap play,
a version of a power play.
You're going to pull the guard from the right side.
He's going to come,
and he's going to try and kick out the playside defensive end.
You're going to get a double team here at the point of attack that gets excellent vertical displacement.
We're going to see that here in a second.
This is going to go to Luther Burden.
And we talked about this in the preview on Thursday, that all of their skill players,
they all block, they're all physical, they all play through contact, they force mistackles.
Right.
We saw how many mistackles do we see from this defense again here in this game?
That's something that has shown up time and time again so far this year.
but I mentioned that double team.
Byron Young gets taken for a ride.
Like, I don't know.
I forget what's, what's the name of the public transportation system in Chicago?
You're charged.
You're charged with Byron.
Byron Young knows him a fair.
Like he ends up getting put five, six yards into the linebacker's lap.
You get a kickout block from the guard.
And now you've got one-on-one bat.
And this is where you need your guys to be able to win one-on-one.
Luther Bird now has the ball.
He's three yards behind the line of scrimmage.
When he first gets the ball,
and he's running right into the teeth of the defense.
and you kind of see like, all right,
OJumbo makes contact
before the first down marker.
You've got other guy,
Cooper de Jeans coming in pursuit,
you got Zach Bond coming downhill,
you've got Jehad Campbell
that's scraping over the top.
He's about to make,
he's about to get to the football.
All right,
they got the first down.
Let's wrap him up.
A wide receiver, by the way.
Let's wrap him up.
Let's get into the ground.
And Vinny, you know,
like, this is going to be a screen grab
that they're going to show
in the meeting this week.
Yes, yes.
This is brutal.
This is disheartening on the opening drive.
Look at all those blue jerseys.
Like that's a, like you guys said it earlier.
Like Chicago looked like they wanted it more.
First drive.
That's what it looks like.
That's disappointing.
First drive, go ahead.
Your friend, that same formation, right?
Comes back, the body's in the ass again.
Right under center.
Yep.
Boom.
Swift flares out.
He catches his receiver.
Touchdown.
The same, shame on the center play.
This is the same formation.
I'm like, yo, this isn't a terrible, bro.
It's just like, you knew that was going to come back to it some way, somehow.
Yeah.
But in a different rarity, and I think that's what sucked everybody in.
When we talk about the back-in chat, when we talk about the back-end, I'm talking about the safety player.
Everybody got sucked in.
But let me just relax, okay?
All right.
It's okay.
Sorry.
We understand what you mean by something.
tucked in on the back end.
We don't need to make too much of it.
We understand.
It's not a Gen Z thing.
Easy, easy, easy.
Sorry.
Yeah, MJ, I couldn't believe,
as Fran breaks it down there,
the first drive of the game,
given what they showed last week,
you know, coming off,
giving up that third and 22 run,
and all talking about
getting pushed around
on Black Friday by the same Bears' offensive line,
that that was the energy
they came out with.
It's embarrassing.
It's shocking.
You would have thought that the Eagles were the team that at least to start the game, they brought the intensity.
Like, I was there on Black Friday.
And I saw last year how dominant, Swift, Menonga were.
Like, that was almost like they're coming out party.
Like, no, we are a dominant duo for potentially years to come under Ben Johnson for seeing what they're creating there.
but for the mistack, like the first mistackle of the game, Marcus Epps,
like then you're seeing throughout the game by hook card the second he comes in,
then they sub them back out for Marcus Epps.
It's like they weren't on the same page, the defense entirely.
And this also got me thinking, Bo, like,
Howie Roseman's draft class.
In the past, the reason why the Eagles have been so great,
they've had these great defense.
against. Hi Roseman, first three picks of the draft, first round, second round, third round.
These guys are all starters, not only starters. They're like all pros, pro bowlers, 2022, like,
Cam Juergens, you know, he was the successor for Jason Kelsey, 2021. You get Milton Williams,
Devonze Smith, you know, like those guys, 23, even 2024, Quinnion, and Kuwait.
These past drafts, 2025, 2026, a lot of folks, they wanted a safety.
The Eagles, they go ahead and get a developmental tight end who's on IR, not even playing.
So like, when your Yvese from McCailleman is barely using the offense, Eli Stowers,
not on the team right now.
Mark Elbeau is not playing.
It's like, these are your top three picks.
and Howie Rosen's specialty has been hitting those first three rounds.
Well, it's an important point because let's also talk about Drew McCuba on the Khalif Raymond touchdown, Fran.
It looked like he was to blame there.
And, you know, if they've got a problem with him and Jihad Campbell, and as you say, the early returns are not great on the likes of Eli Stowers,
the quality of the roster becomes a much bigger discussion.
I actually think McCuba, Macuba's role in that.
Matt Raymond touchdown, I think it's excusable.
I think it was just a bad misstep off of a read that he made,
but it wasn't like a mental thing.
It was just like an unfortunate thing.
But let's get into it.
Let's see what happened on that play.
And let's be my final breakdown of the play.
So it's 11 personnel.
You got one back.
You got one, two.
Third receivers over here outside of Rieke Wollen.
So you've got the, you got Rieke Wollin,
then you got one tight end on the field.
Obviously what we're going to see, and they pointed this out of the broadcast,
you're going to get burden coming in motion and Cooper DeGines running with them.
That should be a.
tell for everybody that it's likely man coverage. The Eagles, they do a good job of disguising that
at times, and they'll change the call and they'll stay in zone coverage. But you get Cooper running
across the formation. That gives us a little bit of an idea that it's probably man to man.
And watching it play out, this looks like it's man. You've got DeAndre Swift running to the
flat, Zach Bond's going to track with him. You've got Roman Dunezay working, he's going to work
an in-breaking route. Quignan-Mitchell is going to match that. Colson-Level's going to work outside.
you're going to get the DB kind of tracing him here.
Raymond, who was just outside of the frame,
he's going to run the in-breaking route.
We know that he's going to end up catching this touchdown pass.
Rieke Wollin was over him to start.
Now, when I'm looking around, I'm saying,
all right, man-to-man, man-to-man, man-to-man, man-to-man,
man-to-man.
There's one guy that's not playing man-to-man
that's playing a different coverage to everybody else,
and that's Rieke Wollin.
So my gut tells me that the,
This is probably a busted coverage from Rick Wollin on this play
and that he should be running with Khalif Raymond here on the Inbreaker.
Either that or off of the motion,
there was supposed to be some kind of a pass-off between he and Cooper DeGine.
And DeGine should have picked up Raymond and then, you know,
Rieck was going to pick up burden or potentially, I guess, in theory.
But the fact that he's dropping to the third and not to the post,
you can say like oh he's passing him off to macuba and macuba i don't think that's the case to me i think
the simplest explanation is that this should be reek woollins man that reek mullin should have been
on caliph raymond on this play because everybody else is playing one coverage and again i could
be wrong here on this play now the ball is thrown behind raymond from case keithing keithing here and you
can see that raymond running the in breaking route he's going to have to contort his body and
catch this off the back shoulder and you can kind of see macuba he's
he's like tracking the ball and he's reacting to the ball being thrown on the back shoulder.
So if the ball gets through there, he wants to be in position to try and take this ball away.
And when he does that, he kind of stumbles and then he's just got no shot.
Like Raymond hits the, hits the ground after the catch.
It makes it a really nice catch on the run and hits it and just explodes out of it.
And he's got no angle and he's able to, he outruns McCuba there.
So, and gets into the end zone.
So I actually wouldn't put this as much on Macuba.
Again, there's a chance that they were running some kind of, they had some kind of
call there some kind of check where he's passing him off to macuba but my understanding would be then
he would run to the post so i think the most likely explanation just based off everybody else in there
is that that was reek woolens man on the inbreaker and that he should have been one-on-one with
uh with caliph raymond that would make sense okay that's interesting context
belg how do you feel about just the state of the secondary not great uh the safeties
i think are you know turning out to be a bigger issue
then I thought, I mean, Big Fangio said it.
He thought Marcus Epps would be fine.
Those were the exact words to use.
I would say Marcus Epps has not been fine.
And I think we're not seeing exactly what we wanted to see
out of Andrew McCuba year two experience,
hoping that he would take a step forward.
Fran, I wanted to ask you, just,
what do you feel with this defense, like is fixable?
What makes you confident that,
to the extent that they can get better
and play better than this?
Well, it's been three games,
and we've seen some busted coverages from Rick Wollin
that have resulted in two touchdowns,
one on the goal line against Washington,
and then this past one,
if I'm right on this one,
against Chicago,
those are, in theory,
are correctable issues.
And this team has gotten by,
you know, C.J. Gardner Johnson busted coverages
that led to big plays in the Super Bowl run.
So you can get by on that.
I think the bigger thing,
the tackling is disappointing,
lack of tackling has been disappointing, especially these last couple of weeks. But to Bo's point,
like that is something we've seen crop in early on in the season over the last couple of years and then
improve as the season has gone on. I would say the lack of being able to finish from a pass rush
standpoint, also disappointing. How many like near sacks again did we see tonight? One from Rick Wollin on
the corner blitz. They called like four or five corner blitzes. Keenham was able to get the ball out
for completions every single time. I'm pretty sure there was probably a success rate of a hundred percent
on those corner blitzes, which, you know, was atypical of a Vic Fangio game plan.
So I thought that was an interesting wrinkle that obviously did not work.
But, yeah, Jalick's Hunt, you know, trying to get, trying to see him get home for a sack,
Morrow getting home.
Like, we just have not been able.
We didn't really feel Jalen Carter's presence too often tonight.
And so I would say, like, that is maybe the most alarming thing for me is the, and a question
of like whether or not that can get fixed.
But you know what the answer is there is that, you know, like, you know, like,
sacks coming bunches,
but I just don't feel like we're feeling the pressure.
Like a lot of times when we have these conversations like,
oh,
like,
you know,
they were in the quarterback's face a lot.
There's a lot of pressure.
I don't feel like we're getting a lot of that.
No,
you know?
And so I would say that is the part that's a little bit alarming to me.
All right.
Good stuff, Fran.
We look forward to getting the full breakdown on tomorrow's show.
If we want to take a look at the full schedule coming up your way on PHLY this week,
we've got you breaking down the film tomorrow at 2 o'clock.

And then, of course, BLG and the professor on Friday at 2 o'clock.
And then, of course, Sunday's free and post game show,
the Rams coming to town for a big game.
Tough to feel great about this Eagles defense
going up against that Rams offense.
And they might be getting Pug and Akua back.
So a long week of sweating, I think, for Eagles fans on that front.
but we will talk to you tomorrow, Fran.
Thank you so much for the breakdown.
Appreciate it, guys. Talk soon.
All right. That'll close the book on the armchair analysis presented by Ashley.

On the other side, Vinnie tries to figure out a way to give out a game ball from this game.
We'll get more of your questions and stay tuned for E.J. Smith live from Chicago on the other side.

Say hi.
Eagles legends about.
I don't know if you're going to be there, Vinnie,
but you're certainly.
invited.
Should be fun.
Have a drink with MJ.
You never know.
There you go.
Some fun.
All right.
A couple of super chats before we get to your game ball, Vinnie.
Let's get to E. Roses.
Offense disappears for quarters and halves for four years through four OCs, even the
Super Bowl year, not a new issue.
Lean into Jalen's volatility with more deep shots.
I like that.
Jack D. White.
Howie has passed on Kyle.
Hamilton, Brian Branch, Nick Eamon Worry at safety, and that's one of our real weaknesses.
When are we going to stop bashing all the OCs and start looking at Jalen Hertz?
That's not where I thought that comment was going given the way it started.
But, you know, I'll take that.
I mean, listen, Kyle Hamilton, that's Jordan Davis.
I think you'd rather have Kyle Hamilton.
Eamon Worry, that's John Campbell.
I think you'd rather have Eamon Worry.
I think Branch was like, when you'd you'd rather have, you know,
is that the year before?
I got to remember that one.
That one I'm not sure about.
Drip Sensei,
back-to-back weeks facing a 38-year-old quarterback,
what could possibly go wrong?
Can't recall the last time I saw a complete game
by the Eagles' offense and defense.
Dane is, the professor, is in,
and says that by EPA per drive,
this is the third worst game
of the Nick Siriana era
and the worst since 2003,
including the playoffs.
Pretty bad.
stuff. And yet I am not that concerned about the offense.
I'm either. You know, the Bigsby can't fumble that ball. That was a bad job by him.
The interception from Jalen is not great, but it's on fourth down. The interception for
Mandy Dalton is one of the funniest things I've seen on the football field in a long time.
I'll tell you what, though. And friends film breakdown, I'm curious to see McClellan's
one-on-one matches because it got to be a reason why to keep gimmicking him to get the football.
Dude is a playmaker.
It was an absolute stud in college.
So I'm just curious.
Yeah, MJ, you were fired up on the watch-along when he finally got that ball in open space down the field.
And you were seeing McCa juke some guys.
Like, again, I just don't understand you draft a player, you trade up just to not
utilize him to what he does best or you utilize what he does best sparingly sparingly but you go back to
the play that everybody in the mother knows I feel like everybody in Philly we've all heard about
LeBron today everybody knows about the bubble screens to McClellan everybody is saying every he goes
in motion and every eagle's fan is like no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no I
don't get I thought the tie-ins game we were going to okay that was the end of it y'all went back
to it back to it again and these are
drop kill is like I don't understand why these screens just for some reason don't work
we had a promising drive earlier in the game Seguan scream lost two yards puts us in
second and long and not able to recover so this offense is putting hurts in the position
that if Hertz is not perfect,
if Hertz is not playing an A-minus game at least,
I don't believe the Eagles have a chance.
Now, today he wasn't good,
especially in the second half, he really wasn't good.
And he would say that.
He said I didn't play well.
But there's no room for error with this defense
and with the inconsistent offensive line
that doesn't give their quarterback any favors,
We can get on Hertz and say that pick the T.J. Edwards could have had two picks.
You could have two picks tonight, right?
But at the end of the day, the margin for error, like we've said, the Italians game,
people were talking about that game so much because what Hurst did it on that final drive,
that doesn't happen all the time.
It's the NFL.
So that's something like, can we make it easier for the quarterback for the offense?
and on the bright spot,
we saw some great, great things from this running game
in the first half.
Now, the second half, you ain't do too much,
but the first half, it was promising.
All right, Vinny.
Are you ready to dole out your game ball in a 20-point loss?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know, you guys imagine
if those PbUs was interception.
If only he had added interceptions to his game,
as some people predicted.
You had a pick six.
The one in the end zone on fourth down,
I think that one you could argue he could have or should have caught.
So I'm going to get my game ball to cue.
But it was still really great coverage.
Yeah.
Right.
I mean, he's the only guy on the defense who,
who showed up today.
Yeah, he jumped out on the screen, you know,
play really hard, so Q you get my game ball.
I like that.
I think he deserves it.
That's good.
Yeah.
Shout out to Quinyan, who's going to have a tough task next week against the Rams.
So that'll be hopefully an on-ramp to him having an even bigger week next week.
Now, can you get a pick six next week?
I'm like,
I'm like.
Throw a parade.
You know what I like that.
All right, Vinnie's Gameball goes to Queen Jan Mitchell.
Love that graphic.
Good stuff.

Back on the P. H.O. Eagles podcast, thank you to Vinnie Curry for joining us on the post-game show.
Today, Eagles, stunk it up in Chicago, 27,
7. Unfortunately, we have to bring in now a man who can't smell. So he doesn't know exactly how much
they stunk it up, but he can tell us the sights and sounds of the Eagles locker room as we dial up
the Xfinity Mobile call in line to bring in the great E.J. Smith, who needs a minute. So before that,
we'll go some super chats. Blending the legend says, Sonnyan, I'm crying. I don't know what it's about,
but I appreciate it.
money. Just a nice donation. Thank you. Blended in the legend. I don't understand this.
The tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue thing. The spirit of triple T has abandoned this team.
We need tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue to bless this team again.
Please triple T. Do either of you guys have any idea what that means? I say worth a shot.
Oh no. I don't know what it means, but why not?
Yeah, triple T, make it happen. Can't hurt. He also says, we need my bull.
boy Cadarius Tony to come out of retirement.
At least he can do stuff with the dumb screens,
Mannion runs instead of poor lemon dying.
Listen, I think...
I like that.
You got to be willing to try anything.
I don't think I'd expect anybody to stump for the return of Cadarious Tony to this team.
But, you know, the Eagles could use an eighth wide receiver on the roster.
Dinkleberg.
Carter and Davis given extensions this offseason.
Grenard traded for and given an extension.
and Smith, Hunt, and Ojimo
all playing for upcoming contracts
wouldn't know it based on the season so far.
I think that's right.
This defensive line does not look scary.
Not even close.
Again, six quarterback hits through three games.
It's really bad.
Two sacks.
And have those even been like super impactful sacks either?
I feel like tonight didn't they have one.
The Gila Carter won against Kim Ward last week
because, you know, that was a big one.
and that's one of the two they have.
Yeah.
Well, the other one was that you got a high Campbell's sack.
Well, I didn't count that one.
I said, only defensive line.
Yeah.
So who's got the other?
Um,
very close to.
Does Ojoimo, does OJima have one?
I think so.
Okay.
You know what this defensive line needs?
Tung, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue.
I think.
I don't.
All right.
We got E.J.
E. Smith.
Live at Soldier Field on the Exfinite.
mobile call in line. We bring him in for EJ's notebook.
Hello, everybody. I am fresh out of the Eagles locker room. So let's throw it over to EJ's
notebook. All right. So these are the things I'm going to order this and the things you really
are going to want to know from the podium. And then we can talk a little bit more open-ended
about something at the end here. So first and foremost, the biggest news from the press
conferences to me is Nick Siriani saying he would like to have that fourth and one decision back.
Obviously, it just came out.
They was fourth and one from their 49 yard line.
And they tried to draw the Bears offside and then took the delay a game penalty and
ultimately decided to punt.
I think you could tell Jalen Hertz wasn't happy with that decision, both from the broadcast
view, but also talking to Jalen after the game.
You know, he didn't say it like forcefully, but he did say that, you know, as a competitor,
you always want to take advantage of those situations.
you want to be, you want, you know, Nick to empower you in those situations. So I found it very
noteworthy that Nick said in hindsight he would have liked to have that one back. Um, and this is a
little bit, you know, we can talk about this in a minute here. Um, I think this is probably the,
the pitfall of Nick making these decisions with emotion in the moment, rather than having a sheet
and a card, uh, where you just, it's a black and white cut and dry decision. So, uh, you know,
Nick said that he would like to have that one back. Ultimately, obviously went for a fourth and
from a similar spot on the field just three minutes later.
Next one, Jalen's medical tent visit.
We got a little bit of clarity from Jalen.
Honestly, I think the broadcast probably showed you everything
that you needed to know about how Jalen felt about it.
He said that he felt fine.
You know, it was a very, like, terse answer from him
when someone asked him, you know, do you feel,
did you think anything was wrong?
He said, no, sir.
Did you feel like you could go back in the game?
He said, yes, sir.
Jalen said he wished that that process would have been expedited.
You know, he respected the fact that the spotter saw, you know, what he saw and that he was called to the medical tent.
But just being here, and I'm sure the broadcast talked about this as well, I could see that Jalen was, like, ready to get out of the medical tent.
The spotter had left the medical tent and was watching the hit back on the video monitor.
I don't know the ins and outs of the procedure and the protocol, but to me, if the spotter leaves and goes back to watch the video, it's like, I don't know.
I don't know how you can hold a player out if they've been clear from the protocol there.
So, but again, I don't know the ins and outs.
Jalen didn't want to get too much into that.
And ultimately, Jalen said that, you know, this game was not up to his standard.
And, you know, the team didn't, that he didn't play well enough in all moments of the game.
And then the last thing is what Nick Siriani said, you know, out-coached.
You know, two things that we know Nick Siriani harps on more than just about anything is mastering the things that require no talent and winning the turnover battle.
Two things that the Eagles just haven't done, you know, especially in this game.
I think that both of those things, you know, were in the Bears favor.
effort, you know, tough detail together.
All of Nick's things you could point to the Bears tonight
and say that they really exemplified those.
And I think Nick, he did, he acknowledged the fact that they got outcoached
and I played in this game.
You know, we could talk about how worrying that is.
But yeah, that definitely was a big theme from Nick
in the press conference there.
Great distillation, E.J.
We appreciate that.
Let's start with Nick because I do find, you know,
it's good that he's admitting that he made a mistake there
and would like to have it back.
I find it,
you know,
it's deeply embarrassing from his perspective
to make that decision
and then be forced to then have to go for it
on fourth and five on the very next possession,
you know,
letting it be known to everybody
that you really didn't really have any idea
what you were doing.
It's a little sad.
On the Jalen part of it,
was he asked about potentially calling a timeout?
out to give Jaylen more time to get on the field before any Dalton through that pick.
Yeah.
So Nick did say that, you know, he considered calling a time out, but he actually referenced,
and I found this actually interesting.
I think it's a good argument from him.
He referenced Brian Dayball last year, like lurking around the medical tent when Jackson
Dart was getting evaluated for a concussion and how negatively that was received.
Now, he didn't say, like, you know, Brian Daibald got killed for this, but he said there was an
example last year of a coach hanging.
around the tent trying to figure out what's going on.
And I actually think the way that Nick handled it probably, I mean, you know, Brian
Daibol, if you're watching, I'm going to give you some, shoot you some bail here.
You know, I think it actually makes a little bit more sense.
Now, I think Dave all was like braiding the NFL officials there, but you do it like,
you can understand why a head coach would want to know where the quarterback is in that
procedure because if it's close, yeah, you're going to call a time out.
So Nick said he didn't know anything about what was happening.
You know, it's not really communicated to him.
It's not something that he's keeping tabs on.
And I actually think that that's probably,
that's probably the right decision and it's probably the right answer from Nick,
is that he wasn't keeping tabs on what the concussion spotter was doing
because you have to let the spotter do their job.
So, you know, that was his explanation.
And he actually also made the argument that they needed all three of those timeouts
for the next drive.
Now, listen, it was a costly mistake.
Andy Dalton interception.
Andy Dalton said after the game that he apologized to Jalen Hertz on the sideline for that mistake.
So, you know, it didn't work out for the.
the Eagles but um but yeah i think i actually don't mind nick's answer on why he didn't call the
time out i think he was letting that process play out without his interference you think it was like a
handwritten cursive note of apology like very old school from andy dalton he like he ripped out
a page of my notebook and just like slated to him on the bench yeah rowing in that promising drive you know
he just walks over hangs his head and hands him a piece of paper that says like sorry
with a sad face on it.
Honestly, I mean, should Howie
be writing an apology letter
about that one too?
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry about this QB2 battle.
Yeah.
I mean, the Eagles tried to downplay this quarterback
thing all summer.
You know, it doesn't matter.
We have two that we like
and it backfired for him tonight.
Yeah, imagine how bad they must think
Terry McKeos.
Yeah, I
as a reporter, I really would love to know
like what transpired with
Tanner McKee in the last, you know, nine months that have led to him going from, well,
I think what we all thought was a solid backup quarterback to a guy they don't trust.
So, yeah, it's been strange.
Oof.
All right, what were the other notes from Jalen?
Yeah, so Jalen talked about the interception, you know, he basically said that he actually
was really hard on himself and he did a nice job explaining sort of how that came about.
You know, he said that, like, he was trying to get to Devante on the spot route.
and he acknowledged the fact that he had Mackay Lemon open on that play.
I haven't seen the tape back on it yet.
I didn't see the replay.
But he said he had McKay Lemon open.
It was basically just admitted it was bad process
and said that that was one of the very many examples of him
not playing up to his standard.
So, but overall, you know, Jaylen,
I feel like after losses a lot of times when he gets to the podium,
it's almost like he's like processing it with us.
Like he kind of is a little bit more open,
a little bit more vulnerable about some of the things.
And I think you can hear him really talking.
through that like this game did not go the way that he hoped, the way that he, you know,
he didn't play to the standard that he expected of himself.
You could kind of tell, you know, there were a lot of shots from the broadcast of him like,
you know, crashing out on the sideline for lack of a better term.
I think you could kind of even see it.
Like he seemed like drained at the podium.
So, you know, yeah, it was, it was interesting.
He talked a lot about this is going to be part of the process and part of the journey.
I wrote down the line he wrote, which he said, nobody's going to wait on us.
You know, no one's going to wait on this Eagles team to figure out what, you know, what they're doing on early downs and try and clean some of this stuff up.
The other thing I had from Jaylen's press conference, note-wise, he actually offered this up, and I hadn't thought about it.
Before the game, I was joking about the fact that the Eagles, you know, are 3-0 on the coin toss.
And, you know, that's like the best streak they have.
But they actually haven't scored at all with that opening drive in the second half.
And Jalen said that's something they have to get better at.
You know, they've been favorably, you know, they've had the favorable situation.
where they, you know, start the second half with the ball
and they haven't taken advantage this season.
Yeah, I mean, they get the ball down 10-7,
after a first half in which they looked pretty good on offense, I thought.
And I would have, I would have bet for sure they were going to win that game.
And then they get outscored 17 to nothing in the second half.
Three straight, three-an-ounce to start the second half.
Do you have any idea of getting to the bottom of like what is with these second half?
half struggles on offense?
No, it's, I mean, it's not for lack of asking, you know, it's the same thing you hear
every time, though.
Yeah.
You know, it is shooting ourselves in the foot, making mistakes, you know, costly penalties,
you know, not good enough on first down.
And I mean, we watch it like that it is what it is, but it's, it's just confounding
that they haven't been able to address those things.
And that where, that's where I think that this was like going back to the outcoached
label there, where I think it's like, I don't know, at some point, you know that,
Nick Siriani harps on turnover differential.
You know that Nick Siriani harps on mastering the things that require no talent.
They didn't do either of those things tonight.
And honestly, on offense, they haven't done that for the better part of, you know,
the last, what, 18 months, 12 months at the very least.
Like, it's been a while since this offense has been clean and precise for an entire game.
So, yeah, I don't know if you, if that's a reflection on the personnel that they put together.
It's probably a reflection to some degree about the fact that they haven't really like turned over
that personnel maybe as quickly as we would have expected.
But yeah, it's definitely glaring at this point.
Although I'll be honest with you, Beau,
I think I heard you say this earlier and I agree with you.
I was more concerned.
I'm more concerned coming out of this game about the defense and the offense.
For sure.
Because to me, the defense, like, you have to like suspend disbelief.
You look at the 11 they have on the field.
You look at all the talent that they have on the field.
You know what these players are capable of.
And there's just something wrong.
And it's hard to really put your finger on it.
You know, they've got arguably the best quarterback trio in the NFL.
And they have guys run a wide open in this game.
You know, they have one of the best, if not the best defensive track,
tackle trio in football.
Like, it doesn't matter.
The Bears run game runs all over them in the second half.
They don't get much pressure.
I heard the stat from BLG, what's it, six quarterback hits in three games.
Like, they've got an all-pro linebacker.
Like, you know, it just doesn't seem like it's registered.
And I said like in the first two weeks, let's give them time.
You know, Vic Fangio defenses take time.
And this is a good offense.
You know, Ben Johnson's a great play caller.
Jonathan Grenard said after the game that he threw the book at them.
You know, they had a really strong game plan.
But I don't know, that defense is just not playing anywhere near the talent level that they have on the field.
It's like if you didn't, it's like, you know, it's the thing.
It's a, if they're such a great defense and why don't they defend good?
You know, it's like at some point they have to put this together.
And it did surprise me that it looked like this tonight.
I mean, defense is magic.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, yeah.
It's hard to get right consistently.
You see that the Texans defense, which was great last year, is struggling.
Seahawks defense, which was great last year, loses in Washington yesterday.
It doesn't always carry over year to year, even if you've got most of the same pieces,
because it requires everybody moving in concert and it's, you know, it's the hive mind.
And it's part of why most long-term successful teams are not built around just the defense, right?
Yeah.
I'm encouraged by what we've seen from the offense three weeks.
They've got to stop turning the ball over.
But I think the offense can be borderline top 10.
I don't know if I think that defense can get to a top five level.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, you just, you go back to like defense is noisy.
You know, it's volatile.
You're not going to have a top 10 defense year over a year to your
point. Some of that's turnover luck, which the Eagles have not had on defense. And, you know,
some of that is probably to your point. Like, it is sort of like a nucleus. It has to, they all have
to work together in a way that they haven't. I didn't get to talk to Rick Wullen or Cooper to
Gene about the bus to coverage. I don't know if Fran had good insight on that earlier. If he did
it on the all 22 of we'll wait until tomorrow. But his guess, that was one question. His guess is
that it's on Rick Wullen. Everybody's playing man except for him. And he thinks it's either that or it was
supposed to be passed off to Dijin and he did not follow. Yeah, yeah, I saw Dijin follow
burden across the formation, but it wasn't, but that would probably tell you that he has burden
on the route. So yeah, I wish I got a chance to talk to them, but they, they hadn't spoken by the
time that Nick went. But yeah, I don't know. That's my concern because going into the season,
I would have told you I feel good about this run game. I thought the run game had some good
moments in this game, especially in the first half, obviously. But I would have said I felt good about
the run game and I felt really good about this defense
being one of the best in the NFL
and it's not to say that they can't get
there. We know the ceiling's incredibly high
but they're just not playing anywhere near it.
If you looked at this group and you didn't know
what they had accomplished in the past couple
seasons, you wouldn't think this is
the top five defense. Where are
you right now, BLG, on
Howie Roseman's offseason?
And I know that this is a larger conversation
but there's a lot of people
talking about in the chat.
And some of it is
the places they're bad,
we thought they were going to be bad.
Safety, we talked about all off-season,
and that hasn't been very good.
Tight end, we talked about there was no tight end depth.
They lose Dallas Goddard,
and now you're relying on Zacherts playing a ton of snaps.
The offensive line, they hoped that, you know,
like bringing in a new scheme was going to fix that.
It hasn't really helped.
The defensive line, you make the trade for Grenard,
you pay Carter and Davis,
the draft picks we've talked about.
what kind of
what kind of heat are you putting on him
yeah I thought
MJ made some good points on the draft earlier
I think part of that though is like
with this class at least in 2026
um
is he's been on such a heater
that like he's probably gonna have a bad draft
no doubt to happen so I do want to acknowledge that
and it does feel a little crazy at times
to criticize how he just given the success
that they've had in the bigger picture
but I mean calling it a spade a spade
it hasn't really been a great offseason.
I mean,
Garnarjade was one of the bigger moves.
I think he's going to end up being good,
but that's obviously been off to a slow start.
And not really so much how he's fault there
is maybe some bad luck.
You'd say he's investing an older player.
But it's really kind of,
and I think it's been brought up this week
or recently on the show
in terms of these decisions where you let Milton Williams walk.
And it's a lot of things that in the moment
we're like rationalizing that and say that makes sense.
Ultimately, you're losing a lot of talent.
and you're not backfilling that.
And you're making a lot of questionable moves.
And I think when Howie has been at his worst
over these many years of success,
it can be a little bit when the hubris gets involved.
And he's not coming off a spot where he's been humbled.
I think that's been when he is at his best,
when kind of people are doubting him and his back is against the wall.
But I don't think the personnel moves have been good enough.
All right.
Last thing, AJ, was Nick asked about who he was yelling at?
Yeah, so he was.
He did not say who he was yelling at.
He expressed remorse.
He said that that was a moment where he let his emotions get the better of him
and that he hates when that happens.
He doesn't want that to be the case.
You know, he said, like, of course he's always going to be defensive of his players.
But yeah, I think he probably wishes that that didn't get caught on the broadcast.
Honestly, I think it's a bad look.
I understand like the heat of emotion, the heat of battle and all those things.
but I don't know.
Like what he yelled at that guy,
like you probably shouldn't yell at at somebody.
You know,
that's,
that's my stance on it.
I totally agree with you.
And even just saying in passing,
he's going,
he's going hard in the paint on it,
back to back times,
at least.
Yeah.
Yeah.
My general rule of thumb,
and this is mostly to the internet,
but I think it actually kind of works with Nick here too.
It's like,
don't say something to somebody from like a far distance
or on the internet
that you wouldn't want to say directly in front of,
of their face.
You know,
I think that's generally a good way
to live your life.
And I don't think Nick would have said
that if the guy was literally
standing right in front of him.
And he shouldn't,
you know,
he shouldn't say that.
He's got kids at home
or watching him on TV.
Yeah.
But, you know,
he's entitled to like have emotions.
I get that.
But yeah,
I think you,
you probably want to not be like,
be that way,
especially with a bunch of cameras on you.
Nick was fiery on the sideline
the whole game.
I mean, he was losing it on the refs
a couple of times.
I have no idea.
Maybe you guys do.
He was so mad at the ref
on the intentional grounding call.
Yeah.
I have no idea what he was angry about.
Like, I don't know what he could be arguing.
It's pretty clear.
I think what he, this is a total guess.
I think what he's mad at is that play is like,
part of the design of the play is that E.J. Jenkins is there as a blocker in the area
to be the like the spike guy.
And he's saying EJ's there.
Like that's part.
We designed the play with that in mind.
And Jalen just like he didn't throw it anywhere near him.
Yeah.
Yeah, that play was.
terrible. And I wrote this,
you know,
this,
can this be my last thing?
I need to,
I need to vent about something.
I wrote this on all PHY.com.
Like,
I need,
and it's going to be a long qualifiers
to just hang with me.
I'm not an Eagles fan.
Like,
I am a reporter of the team.
I try to report objectively.
I used to be an Eagles fan.
I checked it at the door
when I took this job,
you know,
almost a decade ago.
I don't wear Eagles jerseys.
I don't wear Eagles hats.
I am reluctant even to buy,
like,
Eagles jersey, I will, but like even that doesn't feel good.
Even in my personal life, like I won't go over to my dad's house and wear an Eagles anything.
But the fact that, like, I can say that should tell you how significant it is that the
McKay Lemon screens are just driving me insane.
Like it doesn't, you don't need to like love, I do have love for this team.
Obviously, I was a fan before, but it's like, you don't need to like have a rooting interest
to watch them do this every single game.
And the thing that bothers me so acutely about the swing passes to McCai Lemon, it's nothing against
McKay Lemon.
It's not personal.
But the thing that makes it, like, insult to injury is the fact that they call these so frequently
in like a second in 10, a second and nine.
It's clearly like a get back on schedule play.
And it's like, what have you seen to make you believe that that's going to be something
to get you back on schedule?
They've been negative plays every single game.
So I just, even though I have no dog in this fight, I got no horse in the race, it drives me
crazy when they call those plays.
And can you believe they went to
a Y receiver screen with no
timeouts at the end of the first half?
And they got very lucky to score
touchdown there. Yeah, Nick's like
oh, we had 19 seconds and it's like, yeah, but
you needed every 10th of those
19 seconds. If he gets held up
for one more second, if he gets tackled at the
three guard line, you know,
and they don't have time to spike it,
what do they do?
Yeah, I
totally agree with you. He defended it because he said you have
19 seconds. That's a lot of time to get two plays off, but I think you saw it play out. Man,
I'm just thinking back, like, I was writing my piece for all p.H.O.com. I get something up every,
every, at the buzzer, every game. And at halftime, I start, usually is when I start writing it.
And, like, I'm, like, setting this perfect scene. Like, you know, Jalen gets back in the game.
He calls his own number.
And it felt like a real Jalen moment. Yeah, like he called his shot after taking a shot is how I wrote it.
I was all excited about it. And, like, you know, he has like the sideline crash out right after that.
go, you're getting angry, Jalen. I thought they're going to win the game. And then they came out
and laid an egg in the second half. So shows how much I know. All right. Great stuff. E.J.
We'll check it out on all p.hly.com. Everybody become a diehard. Thank you very much.
We will see you either tomorrow or later on the week.
All right, guys. Yep. See you soon. All right. Thank you, E.J. All going to run through the snap counts,
finish up the super chats, and then we'll get on out of here. Defense.
Cooper DeGine, Quinnian Mitchell, Drew McCuba, all play 69 snaps.
Rick Willen, 68.
Jahad Campbell, 67,
Zach Bond 63.
Defensive line, 51 for Jailix Hunt.
48 for Jalen Carter.
That's actually relatively low for him.
48 out of 69 snaps.
That's interesting.
42 for Nolan Smith.
40 for Jordan Davis.
Outpacing Morrow Ojima at 37, so that flipped this week.
28 snaps for Arnold DeBicati.
28 for Byron Young.
26 for Marcus Epps.
19 for Michael Carter
so they did play more base than usual
Jonathan Grenard 17 snaps
12 for Ty Robinson and 6
for your boy
Trott Jr.
Those must have come
with the very end of the game
yeah.
Roberts time.
Garstown stuff.
Only 47 snaps for the Eagles offense
all of them played by Lane
Milata, Devante
Cam Juergens, Tyler Steen
and Drew Kendall.
Jalen Hertz misses four snaps.
I think we remember
those snaps pretty well.
42 for Donteyne Wicks,
35 of 47 for Sequin Barclay.
32 for Mikhail Lemon,
24 for Johnny Munt,
18 for Zach Hertz,
13 for E.J. Jenkins, 11 for Will Shipley.
6 for Elijah Moore,
four for Andy Dalton,
four for Darius Cooper.
Not enough.
Two for Tank Bigsby and one for Marka Bell.
Do you want to answer
BLG for Darius Cooper's false start?
I think that was officially on multiple players.
in the scorebook.
So not just his fault.
Should have been playing more.
It's probably, yeah, it's because he only played four snaps.
If he was in the flow of the offense, like he should have been,
he wouldn't have had a false start.
Yeah, I mean.
Everybody knows that.
Come on.
Come on.
It's the same thing happened to E.J. Jenkins.
You know, when you don't play a guy.
The game winning touchdown?
Yeah.
I need some love.
You know what?
That's true.
The guy catches the game winning touchdown.
Here's your reward.
Here's your reward.
Four snaps.
And the guy who was a healthy scratch.
You said Moore played how many?
but they were all at the very end of that.
Okay. Yeah.
Isn't it funny, by the way? I don't disagree
with you, N. E.J. on the offense,
like feeling better about that than the defense.
We're just talking about how... They had the worst
EPAP for drive game they've had in three years.
They almost came very close to not scoring at all.
They barely got that one touchdown.
It's true.
All right. Super Chats. Justina.
Nick. Mr. Siriani,
the fan base would like to know. Why are you such a little B word?
Devella should have paid to keep Nkoby Dean and Reed Blankenship.
Linebacker and safety have gotten way worse without them.
Texans fans are not very happy with read Blankenship at the moment for the record.
Go birds.
Aloha, a P.HLY.
Writing in from Hawaii.
I remember going to the NFC championship and hitting Keenham with a skull right after halftime.
This is sad.
You folks hit it on the head.
We miss Nacobi.
Thank you for the SuperChive.
generous. Justina again. Also little stuff on the margins are huge. All the things
PHLI discusses and never gets love for. Jokes aside, this backup quarterback should be
Tanner and the head coach needs to not be a P-word. Justina coming hard in the pain. Gregory
Campbell. Tough loss today, but I'm sure coach Siri will rally the troops and have the guys ready
to play and win the next game. Just got a few loose ends to tie up. You get to have a dose of
optimism there. Nikki loves
music. CJ, G.J.
Phillips and Akobi all playing well.
They missed the maniacal edge
of CJ and Nikobi.
I'm open
to that take. You've talked about this.
They're missing a little bit of nasty.
Yeah. A little bit that umph.
Like, yeah. That toughness, that
grit, that heart, that
passion. Like, there's some
really good players.
Nasty. Small pro guys.
Some pro bowl guys.
but it's kind of like they're missing something like the X factor I don't know if it's a tangible thing like
because the talent is there granard making a hundred million dollars jelan carter jordan davis jailix hunt
was prim to have a breakout year Nolan smith that's a really good rotation piece with grenard
and hunt second level you got an all pro zack bond who is still showing hey i'm one of the best lineback
is in the game and like you said BLG arguably the best secondary in the game at least on paper
so I would actually say I'm more confident I'm more optimistic about the defense moving forward
because I trust Vic Fangio to make the adjustments the biggest thing with the defense is
just finding that fire back like Quinnian always got that fire always got that fire he can
mess up in a 49ers playoff game give up a touchdown
and, you know, look at him get two picks.
Like, he always got that fire, but on the defensive line, like, where is that
umph?
Like, is it Jalen Carter?
Is it Jordan Davis?
Like, we need that umph.
So offensively, they're just too Jalen Hurstetric to me right now.
If he's not playing well, they have no chance, no chance at all.
And they got to clean up those turnovers.
I think that's fair.
DeVela, don't forget.
Nick said any drive that ends in a kick is a success.
Good callback.
Mr. W. Yati,
Nick Soriani,
and Sean Womanian need to learn how to make Mexican pizzas and tacos.
I'm tired of this.
Does that mean they work at Taco Bell?
I don't know.
Good wordplay, though.
Tizi Trez.
Blame all around.
And a generous donation.
Thank you, Tizi Trez.
Defense.
Vic owned
Howie for Dalton
at quarterback two
and not enough draft picks
to help us this year.
Mannion disjointed plays
and damn screens.
Jalen
missing crucial opportunities
Nick
Fundamental Siriani.
Good efficiency
with your sentences
there Tizi Trez.
Gonzalo Gutierrez.
So about the wide receiver screen.
Let's not do that anymore,
perhaps.
Noted.
I think
good. The Eagles are going to get yelled at about
the wider receiver screens all week long.
A stat on that real quick.
Okay. Sean Syed has the,
says the Eagles are ranked 32nd in the NFL,
an EPA per play and success rate on throws behind the line of scrimmage.
Dead last.
That's very funny.
Paul Michio,
I was at the game every time we didn't run with Sequin,
the Bears fans cheered.
Fair.
Kenneth White.
Just a nice donation.
Thank you, Kenneth.
D. Moormack.
Who cares about success, right?
We scored seven points.
Fair point.
Mr. W. Yadi is back.
Put MJ in his safety immediately.
Ready?
And Andy Dalton is a doofen smirts.
I'm ready.
If you had to play, if you, if as an Eagles fan,
if you had to put yourself at a position next week,
where would you put yourself?
Not where you want to play, but where you think the Eagles could bear.
best be served by having you on the field?
Look, like, you know, I'm not the tallest guy, you know, but I got some heart.
And on that defensive line, I'm getting to the quarterback.
Because we got to get some sacks in case Keatim, all respect to him, but like, we got to get
to the corner, but we got to take him down.
Cam Ward, Dana Day.
It was like, what's going on?
like all this money all this resources shoot sign me up howie i'll try my best like we got to get to
the quarterback that's very good i like that joseph lynch with another generous super chat
the people really dulling it out tonight we appreciate that thank you for your support he says
don's a fake stash i'm going to get into character here for him da birds stink as bad as deep dish
left on the l train for three days a certain team's receivers were so open they could have been
into middle of a Lake Michigan.
These guys are going to give me a hot attack.
There you go.
Slophead, go birds.
We can stop pretending the team doesn't stink.
LM1 CT.
QB1 had the stoicism knocked out of him.
He wasn't the same after that hit,
even though the blue tent cleared him.
I actually thought he was very good on the next drive.
Well, that next drive was the touchdown drive.
Yes.
So, TZ Trez is back again.
Maybe a neck roll was the fix for Sequin to stop dancing
behind the line. I feel like he hit the hole and fell forward more than recent games.
Maybe the neck roll stops him from turning east and west. I also thought Sequim looked
like explosive in the first. He looked to me like he was running at like 1.5 speed.
I thought it looked great, but then he got four carries in the second half.
Miss Mr. Instinct. You know it's a bad overall game when Bigsby's literal fumble inside the
own 20 is not even talked about much. This is our ten.
of Bay 2024 game.
I think that's got to be the hope.
This is your, you know,
Jalen, take you a deuce.
You don't look, you just flush it, move.
And this is there, it's done.
We'll see.
Jack D. White, Branch was Nolan Smith.
That's right.
Brian Branch was the Nolan Smith pick.
John Michaels, screen game hasn't been good since McNabb.
And then Nick relies on his gut too much.
It's always wrong.
Finally, Tizzi Trez.
Is Coop injured and playing through it?
He seems off.
I didn't he didn't stand out to me as bad in this game.
I agree.
But we'll maybe get a little more insight from Fran tomorrow.
All right.
Good stuff.
Final thoughts, MJ.
What are you going to be, you know, putting your head on the pillow thinking about,
worried about this week.
Are you look at this game, penalties, double digits.
You're not going to win many games while also having three turnovers.
And the opposing team has zero.
So if you're optimistic, you can say the Eagles played their worst possible game they could ever play.
Like maybe if they had a great game, no turnovers, Hertz plays well, and they still lost might be even more concerns.
So if you're optimistic, your fan, you say, you know what?
They can't play any worse.
But there are several, several issues.
and it's like one week it's the offense it's the offensive line it's the run game and now on the
opposite side the defense that now that's been an issue and now even kind of building off what
E.J said in his notes like we thought going into this season the defense would be elite to
begin the season and the offense a new O.C. A.J. Brown leaving. Okay, they might.
have a slow start. But we're at a point now where it's like, okay, the offense has to really catch
up, really, really get a groove on because the defense is not as good as least as we started,
you know, as we thought. So I'm looking for them to play better, play a clean football game.
And for their stars, the guys that they paid the big bucks, Jalen Carr, Jordan Davis,
John Lerganard, you know, first game together. I'm looking for them to really show why
they got paid those big bucks.
For me, it's about how you respond against the Rams.
We talked about Ben Johnson having Vic Fangio's number.
And there's been a lot of close Eagles Rams games, to be clear.
But Nick Siriani.
Yeah.
Big Fangio, you've had golden boy, Sean McVeigh's number
in terms of at least getting the job done ultimately in these close games.
But I have to see him respond because we'll see just how good the Bears and the Rams are
this year, but they're supposed to be two of the better teams in the conference.
If you lose to both of those and you're losing the tiebreaker then, the head to head,
that's going to hurt.
I don't mean in terms of the standings, but just also the measuring stick of it all.
So I want to see a more inspired performance next week when the Eagles return to the link
after being on the road for two games.
All right.
The Eagles drop to two and one on the season.
They're point differential.
Not good.
It is minus 14 on the season.
It's only been three games.
We'll see how it goes.
But yes, a big gut check as they come back to the link
for a game against the Rams on Sunday.
Can they put a second half together on the offensive side of the ball?
Can the defense look good?
Can the defensive line get after the quarterback?
You know, will Jonathan Grenard become a real factor?
Lots of big questions facing the Eagles this week.
and we will of course have it covered on PHLY.
We return tomorrow at 2 o'clock with Fran breaking down the film of this game.
BG unblocked on Wednesday.
And then we keep on rolling Thursday at 2 o'clock,
Friday at 2 o'clock before all your game day coverage next Sunday.
Thank you to everybody for joining us and commiserating together.
Nothing like suffering as a group after your coaches yelling at everybody
and then punts the ball on fourth and one.
Fourth and one from the 49.
Down 13 points in the third quarter.
I've never seen anything like it.
Unbelievable.
Thank you, MJ.
Traveled a long way to get here.
We appreciate that.
BLG, Vinnie Curry, Lindsay, Ethan,
Ben, London, everybody.
Thank you so much.
We will talk to you tomorrow at 2 o'clock.
Let us know in the comments,
what you think of the game.
And as always.
We love you.
