The NFL schedule release has gifted the Eagles an international game in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the original England. In New England, however, Patriots players fielded questions about the potential for A.J. Brown to join their roster. Bo Wulf and EJ Smith discuss the latest NFL schedule news, the Pats’ comments on Brown, and go through this year’s depth chart to determine how the roster looks this year compared to last. Bowen, E.J., live from the X.Finity Studio, presented by our friends at Ashley, talking about the birds, ready to fly over to foggy London town, E.J., how are you? I'm doing well. Is this your Irish accent? Because it doesn't sound any different to your Irish accent. I don't know what you're talking about. You have a terrible ear.

Oh, well, my, no, I think that sounds Irish to me. Your ear is almost as bad as your nose. No, that would get me in trouble. No, that sounds Irish to me. It's not Irish. If you're British, it's like, how are you, you okay? There's lots of different versions of British. We're going to have a whole week to do every single kind of one.

I got my bottle of little wool, right here. How are you? You okay? Okay. O'i-oh? I'm looking here. What's all this soon? I can do British phrases. I don't think I could just speak in a British accent.

And I won't try. Hearing you do that. We will try the week of October 11th because we have breaking news. The future is bright about the Eagles' chances of going overseas. That's right. Let's bring in Shady Ray's. E.J., the Eagles are going international.

Yeah. The Eagles are going to be playing the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 11th. Jaguars. Week five. Some of us, you know, maybe predicted this or thereabouts in a show is leading up to this big announcement from the NFL. So, yeah, Eagles will be playing their second international, or second game in London, third international game in the regular season, obviously the Brazil game a couple of years ago.

It's a great opportunity for the Eagles to play abroad and not give up a home game to do it. So I know a lot of Eagles fans are excited about the trip and they should be. It's a great place, great place to go for, I mean, a great place to have an excuse to go. So yeah, it's very exciting, very exciting news. Very exciting. Now, how do you feel about doing it in week five and then the possibility that this could mean a week six by? It doesn't necessarily mean that for sure. I think the teams have the chance to decide.

Yeah. What do you think they will do? How would you feel that would play out if it were the case? You know, if you're the Eagles, you're one of the closest cities to London in terms of air travel, I would wonder if you would decline the opportunity to take the buy week right after that trip.

I actually, especially if you can play a home game the week after, I think having a little bit of a later buy would make sense. I don't know, especially like,

we'll talk about the Brazil trip later because the Cowboys are doing that trip mid-season which I find interesting. For me, I don't know. I wouldn't say like 100%, oh, you've got to take the buy after a London trip.

It's a seven-hour flight. It's not that much different than going on the West Coast, the time difference is significant, but I'm sure that they will try to work around that while they're out there. Yeah, no, there are some teams who go out early in the week, like Tuesday, Wednesday, some teams that go out just a day before. When the Eagles played there in 2018, they went out early. I'm curious if they'll do that again.

Yeah. I don't know. I think a week six by is fine. Yeah, especially for a team with the, you know, new moving parts on offense. That's a good point. To reset. I mean, the week five, week five by in, in 2024. It certainly worked out well.

It was like transformative for them. And that was also, you know, to get, to recuperate after an international game, I ask me again tomorrow night when we know what the other games are early in the season. If they have, you know, a road heavy, what? Well, we're going to know when they're biased. Well, yeah, I guess, well, no, I guess ask me again how I'd feel about a week six buy. Okay. Because to me, it's like if they have a lot of road games early, then you probably do want to just

have that week six reset and then go again. But I think week six is on the, it's on the early side for a buy week. It's on the earlier side, yeah. Yeah. But as you said, it worked out fine in 2020. I'm like, I'm like so chalk when it comes to biweeks. Like, give me a week eight, bye. Give me that week.

Week eight, week nine. Give me that wheat. I do like a, I probably would prefer a late buy to an early buy though, like from a personal standpoint. I like to just get on that, that roller coaster or that hamster wheel for the season. And then you think like, all right, we're at week 12. Give me that week 12 buy when you get on the other side of it. Got like four games left. You know, it's like then it's a sprint to the finish line.

I mean, I thought that a week five by it was bad. Yeah, at the time. It worked out for it. Obviously, I was a moron. Yeah. So who, who cares? You're not a moron. There's positives or negatives to any of it.

Yeah, yeah, you make, you make, you make, you make do with whatever you get there. But I don't want to bury the lead here. It's exciting that they're playing in London. Very exciting. Yeah, it's going to be very, it's going to be a cool experience. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which is one of the nice, stadiums in the world. One of the newer stadiums in the world and I'm

sure Jeffrey Lorry, what? One of the newer stadiums in the world it is. It is built more, it's built recently. I'm sure Jeffrey Lurie will be you know, very, have a very, a very, a very, like, he would be very vested interest in seeing how that stadium looks, seeing, you know,

learning about the process of building that stadium as they figure out what to do next with the link or in that space. Who would you say is the hottest spur? That's a good question. probably Christian Romero I think he's pretty handsome some people

might say oh you're going San Antonio's first when Binyama's a handsome guy a little too skinny yeah Cotter Gallagher he's handsome Tony Parker oh Tony Parker he'll reckon marriage now

you will he'll wreck a home now he's a handsome guy I think Tony Parker is too too chalk Hill Rec America now So yeah

I think Jeffrey Lurie will be very interested to see Tottenham Hot Spur Stadium and it might be the only time that a team in the top division of their respective sport plays a game that week you don't understand the reference You're saying that spurs might fall down?

Yeah they might get relegated Yeah aren't they right now just above? Yeah but they have to They'll probably have to win one of their remaining games Okay If I had to guess Okay I'm rooting against them.

I want them to get relegated. Clint Dempsey made the hottest spur. Did he play for the Fretana? Didn't he? At the very, didn't he at one point? No, I'm just, am I? Played for Fulham. I know he went from Fulham.

I think he went. No, you're right. He did for spurs? Yeah. I take Tony Parker over. How about Arikine? No, I don't think he's, I don't think he's. I agree with that.

Ari Kine. I don't know if he, if he's in the running for the most handsome smirk. Completely off the rails. I've got other thoughts. Okay. So I think the Eagles international slate is significantly more favorable than the Cowboys. I saw that the Cowboys are playing in Brazil week three. Like they can't have a week four by.

That probably means they have a week five by. Like to me, that Brazil trip as a season opener was one thing. Playing it in week three. I mean, that is significant. Yeah. You get to play in Rio though. That's fun. It's going to be a great experience.

But just for what it means for their season. I would not want that if I were an Eagles fan. If you're a Cowboys fan, I'd be worried about that. Yeah, but it's about time. The Cowboys get one thing against them in the schedule because they've benefited from being the home team on Thanksgiving every single season. Yeah, that's fair.

For so many years in a row. Yeah, but that is significant. Like, taking myself out of it, because I walked down that trap the other day, just seeing the effect that the Brazil trip had on the players in the weeks that followed, like, it's real. You know, doing that in the third week of the season, again, I'd imagine that they have a week,

week five or week six by to kind of balance that out. But even still, that's going to be tough for them. Who are they playing in that game? Oh, it's a good question. I had the international schedule up. I mean, from an Eagles fan perspective. They're playing the Ravens. It's a good game.

To get rid of Jacksonville. Fantastic. Oh, yeah. It's like the trade of the century. It's like the best deal ever. And to have avoided Jacksonville twice in a six-year window. You know, just keep ducking that Jacksonville trip. Ernie and Estes.

But yeah, Ravens in Rio in week three. That's a tough game. Like it's not only that it's like all the travel. You're playing a team that is physical. But was that who's losing a home game? The Cowboys. Okay, so that is worse. Yeah.

Yeah, so that is, that's tough. So I talked to Cous about this. We don't need to cry tears for him. Oh, no, I think it's, if you're an Eagles fan, you should be celebrating this. I talked to Cuzz about this this morning, especially with this in mind, I think you want to get the Cowboys early.

Like, do they have the Thanksgiving game? But now it's like, okay, so when do you play your home game against the Cowboys? Do, does the NFL put it at the back of the schedule where it's like... I bet they do. Yeah, where it's like this is going to be division deciding. I bet they're playing Week 18. They're going to do what they did with the commanders last year, where it's like, okay, like let's backload these games.

Well, Thanksgiving Week 18 is that's not that's not that bad. Yeah. If I'm an Eagles fan now? Like 12 and Week 18? It's week, I think it's week 12. Okay. If I'm an Eagles fan, I want the Cowboys early in the season. Sure.

Especially based off of it. But I think everybody expects the division to come down to these two teams. I think they'll have them playing in week 18. Yeah. Yeah. Would you, but you agree with me as an Eagles fan. You'd prefer having them early. Yeah, I agree.

Yeah. Okay. I like some early division games. You think they'll get like, is the season opener against the Giants? I don't think they'll have a division game season opener. Do you? they had it last year Eagles Cowboys

I don't like that I could see that was like the NFL season opener yeah I could still see Eagles Giants like the 430 game on the Sunday you know make it like a you know John Harbaugh

era you know is this going to be a different a different complexion team against the Eagles I could see that I'm going to predict I'm going to predict their home their week one game is I bet it's going to be something like lazy like the Titans at Tennessee. At Tennessee, week one.

Or home against the Panthers? Panthers, oh, that doesn't have enough juice. I think they're going to want the Eagles to be. But if it's not the national game, it doesn't have to have it. Yeah, I don't think they'll be like a prime time game, but I think they'll have a good slot. Like, I think 430 Sunday, that makes sense for the opener. I could see that. Yeah, but Panthers would be fine for that.

It's already. No. Giants, Cowboys Sunday. Eagles. Rams. Eagles Rams, 430. No way. There's not wasting that on a non-prime time game.

4.30? I think Eagles Giants at 430 is a good one. That's why... Cowboys Giants is already week one. Oh, Giants already on the schedule. Okay. Eagles commanders, 430? Probably not enough juice.

All right, I'm out then. You talked me out of it. Lindsay, who you got? Eagles Steelers? Eagles, no, they're not doing that. Week one. No way. Eagles...

Cardinals. He goes Cardinals. He's on the board. Genuine disgust in my face. Johnny Gans. That was just the first team that popped in my head that I know he play. The Johnny Gans Bowl.

The Johnny Gann X Bowl. Big Garde, huh? Big Gart. Let's close a look on the future is bright. I like it. What was that? That was British. You say so.

It's going to be a loopy Wednesday for me. What else are you excited about? Give me a picture in your mind that you'd like to see Eagles London related. I didn't think about the Eagles. You want to see Fred Johnson standing in front of Big Ben? Like, what do you want to say? I was wondering where that was going to go. A lot of Fred Johnson references on the show this week.

I'd like to see them at a soccer game, you know, soccer match. I would enjoy that, you know, see maybe like Sequin, Devante Smith, and let's say Jahad Campbell at like yeah I was just trying to think of like guys with like big personalities big members on the team

I would like to see them I'd like to see them go to like a Fulham match Fulham against Aston Villa that would be at Fulham I think that if you're gonna go to a game I was gonna do this for those of you listening who are thinking about going

I want to give you some some recommendations for London we can save some of these for later in the show Mr. London here kind of piece some I mean I've been there like three times I love one been there three times then. All right. You know,

I'm not, I'm not going to let you accuse me of doing the nonchalant gimmick when everybody's been gazzing you up for being good at golf. I'm not saying you're being nonchalant. I'm saying you are being, you are being too behind yourself.

You've been there three times and you're the world's foremost expert on London? Who said I was the world's foremost expert on London? I'm like you, Mr. Golf. You're like, oh yeah,

I'm just an athlete. We'll talk about that later. You've clearly been looking for when to shoehorn this in. No, this is not, me wanting to give the Eagles fans some recommendations. on their trips to London. I mean, God.

I'm just trying to give them some recommendations here. We got the borough market. These aren't going to be like deep cuts either. And I don't, like I can already see you revving up. The borough market is very fun. You have to be there. You have to go. It's like a food vendor like area.

I'm not doing a good job explaining it. But yeah, borough market. It's kind of like London's running terminal situation. It is like London's running terminal market. Very, very good. I endorse. Yeah, borough market's awesome. Like you can get like,

They got these giant, they have a giant thing of Paia. And like, it's like one of the best things you'll get there. And for those who are trying to maybe convince their girlfriend or wife or somebody, they have the umbrellas in one of the like walkways, cool picture. Okay. I don't know if we took pictures there. We got to go back. The sky garden also is a very fun experience.

It is one of the... The garden in the sky? It is a garden in the sky. I mean, it's at the top of a giant skyscraper. It's called the walkie-talkie. I don't know what's actually called, but it looks like a walkie-talkie. Very fun experience. You can get brunch there.

But like, you don't have to get brunch there. And that would be my like pro tip if you're going to go is the food's good. It's pretty expensive for what it is. Just go take some pictures, enjoy yourself. And see a soccer match for sure. And I'm going to give you some power rankings on the teams to go see. All right? Fullum.

I know that it's not one of like the Giants in England, but they have a cool stadium. They have a cool history. they're a pretty good team it'll be a good time craven cottage cool place Chelsea and Arsenal are in like a tier down below bigger clubs easier to get tickets will be cool to go and then West Ham I think like West Ham would be kind of fun they have like a big stadium that doesn't have as much of like the the history behind it as some of these other Premier League grounds and West Ham might get relegated if spurs don't but still cool experience and then I don't I don't I didn't put spurs in here because if you're going to the game

you should go see a different stadium. So yeah, a couple London wrecks. I have an opposite. Don't waste your time. Don't go to Abbey Road. It's literally nothing. It's literally a crosswalk in the middle of our neighborhood. Yeah, but I want to see a picture of Jordan Milata,

Landon Dickerson, Lane Johnson, Willie Lamkin. That'd be fun. Cross and Abbey Road. I like that. That'd be fun. We could just AI that. That was good. Lindsay with the Zinger.

Okay. Go walk to the London eye. It's a cool place to walk. Why are you so, like, offended at my London recommendations? Every time I say something post, look at me like, oh. I've been there three times. This is what you're going to come over here. Let me tell me.

You were not covering the team yet in 2018, right? I was not. It was the year before I started covering the team. Do you remember watching that game? I do. I remember thinking that, I remember thinking the field looked like it was getting really beat up. Yeah, it did not look good. The field. I remember Josh Adams had a big run. Yeah, I do remember that. Uh-huh. And then I remember Jason Kelsey missed a play because he got cleared it in the nuts.

Ooh. And then I wrote two different stories. about that. So wait, the first story was like in the aftermath of the game, I imagine, was the second one. No, they were both one. The one was a true Wolf's Den and one was like a more of a narrative story. The piece you did on Jason Kelsey's like accumulating injuries.

Was that 2019? That was 2019. Yeah. A story I will never forget. It was like, that was one of my like, welcome to the big leagues moments when I'm like, geez, Like these guys are really good reporters. Like I need to learn how to do any of this type of stuff. Not to say I learned how to do that.

Thank you. Why are you kissing his butt after he was just making fun of you? I mean, it's just my nature, you know. You got to get meaner. I'm not going to get meaner. I am who I am, you know. I'm nice to people. So I was giving them these good deeds.

You might not have heard of Big Ben, but you got to check that bad boy out. I didn't say Big Ben. No. I just, I gave them, like, pretty reasonable recommendations, you know. I could have gone more, more mainstream. I was, you know, kind of, I mean, I was still mainstream. We don't talk about this. What else are we going to talk about today?

Well, we're going to get to this AJ Brown Patriots thing. We're going to get to the Gianniere Alexander thing. We did a little comparison of the state of the depth chart versus a year ago just to see how you feel about it. But I don't know, what other recommendations you have? I was going to say at the borough market I have more you should get the mushroom risotto

if you're, I mean, I know it doesn't sound necessarily like amazing but it's my favorite thing there. Have you tried everything there? I've tried a lot of things there. I've been there like four times. I think that's pretty much all I got for you though in terms of London recommendations.

Okay. I went to Eagles to play in Madrid next year. Not trying to look at a gift international game in the mouth here. But the Madrid experience would be very cool. And if you want to talk about futuristic stadiums, the Bernabayo, the Bernabayo, that places. I think it's the Bernabao.

I think it's the Bernabayo. There's an accent on the E. Okay. Yeah, that place is super futuristic. It's like what the Cardinals try to do where they flip the fields out, like they actually have mastered that in Madrid. So I'd like to go there. All right.

Yeah. Tower of London? I didn't like the Tower of London that much I think it was very informed by the fact that it was day three the first time we were there I was really jet lagged and I was determined to try the full English breakfast before we went

and I was just like really not having a good time while we were there as a result so I mean if you and I'm not a jewelry guy so like the crown jewels don't mean anything to me so yeah it was a really not not my favorite excursion. My wife enjoyed it.

You lost Lindsay. I can't tell if he knows what he said or not. I think on that one you must have known. What do you mean? Oh, no, I had no idea. I literally, even after all this, it took me that long to realize you guys were laughing about the crown jewels.

That's what you do. You go see them. All right. I have a good wreck. Okay. If you go on, like, I think it's like two months or three months before you're going, you can get tickets to go up into Big Ben. They're just like limited.

So you have to go on, like, right when the tickets are posted. But it was really cool. You do have to go to walk up like 200 stairs or whatever. Okay. Like you see the gears of the clock? Mm-hmm. And it was actually like pretty, you would think like, how much could they say about a clock, but it's pretty interesting.

And then you get to walk like what you see, you can see the clock hands. You walk through there, the bells and everything, would recommend. And it wasn't like expensive or anything. You just have to go on at the time and get the tickets. All right. I like that.

I mean, she didn't say anything about like fondling crown jewels. Yeah, but like, you know, that, that was the same level. No, that was a real piece of advice. That was like you got to get, you got to do it two or three months ahead. if you are, if you are interested in this, you got it. There was something tangible. Which would be soon for this,

this trip. You have to know. All right. Great recommendation. Thank you. Now he's, now he's salty. I mean,

no, it's fine. It's all right. You got it. Like I said. So some Patriots players were asked about A.J. Brown. Okay. We don't need to spend much time on it.

I didn't think any other quotes were like, inflammatory, how good of a player he is. Byard, beware. Well, it's notable that Kevin Byard talked about A.J. Brown because they were teammates. Talked about how great of a player he is, how much respect he has for AJ. He said, we honestly haven't talked about it directly,

and I don't know what the situation is. I hope it can work out. I hope he can come here and play for us, but that remains to be seen. This is from Chad Graf of the Athletic, I should note. Okay. And then Romeo Dobbs said something as well, right? Yes.

So Romeo Dobbs said he has a ton of respect for AJ. Romeo Dobbs is a big like this league guy which I enjoy said he's been a dude in this league for a long time I understand that when he first got in the league Vrable was his coach so again I understand there are a lot of rumors going around if he's here I'd love to have him here and if he isn't here I'm still going to wish him the best because he's one of the best guys in this league I also saw a quote from Romeo Dobbs about yeah he said I was true to my word when I came here that there is no number one guy in this office So whatever it is I have to do, whether it's playing into the strength more or playing on the backside every here and now, even special teams, which I'm really familiar with, basically said he's comfortable doing that. I got bad news for Romeo Dobbs.

What's that? If AJ Brown gets traded to the Patriots, there's going to be a number one receiver. Yes, I would agree with that. But I think it's... Sorry, Romeo. We don't even have a number one here. It's crazy. It's really cool.

We're going to spread the ball around. It's going to be great. That'd be like... No. Not the case, my friend. That'd be like me coming into this show and being like, you know, it's like a real 50-50 split on this show. Like, you know, it's a lot of give and take. It's like, no.

Best hosts in the city and E.J. I don't think that's fair at all. I can't sit here and talk to myself. Oh, you probably could. I mean, I've seen, I've seen you carry segments before. I do not think that my usage rate is anywhere close to A.J. Browns. Yeah, it's probably not fair. That's probably not true.

But you were looking for a way to get a little dig. I get it. Oh, that wasn't a dig. It's just the fact of the show. Didn't he mention, didn't one of them mention Vrabel? What do you mean? In their quote? Yeah, it was Romeo Dobbs said like, yeah, he has a relationship with Vrable, so I know there's a lot of rumors going around.

You said it. That's going to say you got something to say about the rumors going around with Rable? What are they going to talk about it? Every day. Every day. Every day. Every single day. That's what overtime is about.

Okay. Yeah. I mean, do you think that we should do a show? Let us know what you think of the audience here. They're going to say yes. I know they're going to say yes. Here's my idea.

Tell us if you're on board. If the Eagles have not traded A.J. Brown by the 2 o'clock show on June 2nd. So we're going to give him. a day, we're going to give them 24 hours. Yes. If it hasn't happened by 2 o'clock on June 2nd, then our 2 o'clock show on June 2nd, we just stay live until the trade happens.

Could be a four-week-long show. I don't think it would be a four-week-long show. Maybe... Maybe do I. A 24-hour show? That we're making. What happens if we get past 12 hours? And this is like a June 3rd deal instead of a June 2nd or the first deal.

We take shifts. I mean, it's going to have to be a remote show. Oh, it's remote. It's going to have to be so that we can take sleeping shifts. If it's remote, then... You think I was sleeping here? No, but that's what I was asking is, like, you know, I think you have to bake in the possibility

that this is going to be a 24-hour stream. I understand that. That's mean we all have to have producers on, like, able to step in. It's going to be a hard sell. It's going to be a hard sell. But those numbers are going to be. going to be huge. I mean, I've seen 24 hours. I can do the stream yard. Just keep it going.

Yeah, we don't have to. We're going to break. You know what I mean? Matt says, E.J. takes the overnight and just reads Dune too much. I like that. Sounds awesome, actually. Yeah, I've seen 24 hour streams where like you do 12 hours and then you just play a replay of the other 12 while you sleep and then you pick back up. We could do, yeah, we could do that just we could do a we could do a watch along we're all just watching a movie. You're going to hit play at the same time. Watching a movie, doing a watch along would be fun. Like a movie watch along?

Get Sean Seyed on it? I'll take the overnight shift. You take the morning shift so I can get the kids to school. Okay. Fair enough. You know, we'll get some guests in there. Yeah. Maybe we'll do a thing like you got to do a super chat to keep it going.

And we'll get all this set up and then they will trade him in the first hour of the stream. Yeah. And then what are you going to do? And finish the show. And all the guests will just be like, thanks, thanks, but no thanks. Yeah. Okay. I mean, listen, Roger will be ready, but we don't need him.

I don't know if it went across your desk. Jailier Alexander. Oh, yeah. Players Tribune. Yeah. What did we learn? Yeah, I thought. Mysterious departure from the Eagles this season.

Yes. I thought this was a good closing of the loop on the story that, I think, a lot of Eagles fans found intriguing. Not in the looper way. No, not in the looper way. The movie, The Looper? Yeah. No, just Looper.

I think I saw that movie. I think I saw it. Yeah, you don't want to close the loop that way. Yeah, probably not. Yeah. I don't know what you're talking about, but to get his perspective on it. Obviously, from an outside perspective, we know that he joined the team for a little less than a week and stepped away from football. And it was kind of unclear as to what was going on.

But he had a player's tribune article that talked about his 2025. and those struggles he had with mental health during that time. And I found it, you know, very, I commend him for being so open with it because I found it very insightful as to what was going on. So obviously he had a knee injury from the at the end of the 2024 season that he really struggled with with the Baltimore Ravens at the start of the 25 season. He worked hard to get back, thought that he, I think he thought he was going to be okay in his first game, but knew his knee was not quite right.

And it was, he said that they had him on a pitch count, 25 steps in the season opener against the Buffalo Bills and just could tell right away that he just wasn't where he needed to be physically to compete the way that we know the type of player that he is, the way that he's used to being able to compete. And that really affected him, you know, affected his mental health, affected his confidence.

And, you know, the Ravens kind of phased him out, as we know, and then we're willing to trade him to the Eagles. And he talked about how when he got to the Eagles, he was feeling a little bit better. Those first few practices, he felt really good. but by the time that... He was one of the best D.Bs on the field. He did.

He said he was one of the best DBs on the Eagles practice field when he first got back into the swing of things for those few days. But that his knee kept swelling up and that the anxiety of having another performance like the game he had against the bills led to him having a sleepless night the night before the game. So he said the Eagles plan was to drain his knee before the Packers game. And he was really excited about the idea of playing against the Packers

and showing them like this is what you missed out on. But again, the anxiety overtook him. He said he had a sleepless night. He ended up calling a lot of members of the Eagles organization at 4 a.m. telling them like, I'm not getting on the plane. I'm not comfortable playing in the game. And he had an emotional conversation with Christian Parker about that feeling of letting everyone down.

So, you know, him and Christian Parker had a relationship that traces back to Green Bay. I think that that was important for him. I'm glad to hear he's doing better. He talks at the end of the article about how he won't close the door on his playing career, but he's feeling a lot better post football and after stepping away. And that is something that he's really embracing. So yeah, I thought it was a really refreshing look. I always appreciate hearing from athletes in these settings.

And yeah, like I said, you guys should all check out his piece on the Players Tribune because this is more of a summary. You know, there's a lot of good stuff in there. Yeah, it was good to get that story told. Yeah. Good for him. Yeah. So I think it's important. You know, it's like I am someone who also like puts a lot of like identity and like what I do every single day, you know, for a living.

And these football players like these guys put a lot of their self worth and identity into what they are on the field. And that can be hard to confront if you're not playing well. Especially when it's so directly connected to your physical body. Exactly. Yeah. And getting older. It's something that everyone can relate to. So it's a very human thing.

I know that you can't really have to get it older. It's a very human thing. And yeah, again, I think that it's always important to consider these things because, like, I'm not here to tell Eagles fans that like it's that you can't be upset if your team traded, you know, draft capital away. And a player didn't end up playing for the team. I get it. I get it. But I think this is also like an important piece of the context. So it's interesting.

be interesting to see if he ever does try to return to football. I had another thought about this when I was reading through it. Is what, 29? Let's see. You're going to beat me. 29. Just 10. Yeah.

It's a good guess. But I did have another thought when I was reading through this. I wonder, not specifically with the mental health side of it, but more about like the shaken confidence. Yeah. The Eagles do target a lot of players that are like in this category of player. You know, it's like high draft pedigree, been successful in the league. Kind of, you know, looking for that next chapter. Eagles have signed a lot of those players, and we've seen some of those guys retire abruptly.

And like, I remember I've heard this from someone. I can't remember who now. So I won't try to attribute it to anybody. But I've heard from people before, like sometimes when you're the guy, like not being the guy is hard, you know? Like, it's hard to go from, it wasn't Julio Jones that told me this. I know for a fact. So I can use Julio Jones as a. as an example.

Not everybody can be a Julio Jones. Like, not everybody can go from being like the baddest guy on the field for a decade. And then all of a sudden, it's like, I'm the fourth receiver on a team, you know, with like a bunch of my mentors or mentees, you know, it's like, that's a big adjustment. Some guys don't handle that well.

Well, and I also think there is probably something, you know, I am thinking to all of the other guys that egos have brought in at that level over the years. And some of them have panned out very well. Yeah. Kai Bechton is a good example, right? A guy who washed out as a first-round pick, came here, needed a,

year to prove it. And you know, you didn't have a good year after that. But you got the one year you wanted to get from Akai Bexton. And I think there are also times where maybe the guy who sticks around in the league for a decade is a Rodney McLeod who entered the league as an undrafted rookie because he has never not had that like pathological need to fight every day. Yeah, you got to earn it.

Whereas a guy who is going to be given a chance because he was a first or second round pick might not have that same intensity and feeling that like, you know, I couldn't do without this. Yeah. Yeah, that's a great point. I mean, it's like some guys. It's different, but. Yeah, but it's important because like, I don't think there's a right or wrong. Like, I don't know if there's a team in the NFL that's like the inverse of the Eagles where

it's like they love finding like scrappy, you know, undrafted guys that made it in the league. And it's like, we want like guys who are going to scratch and claw their way every single day. I'm sure there's a team out there that likes those types of guys. But for the Eagles, like, they do prioritize draft pedigree. And I think that, you know, and I don't want to make this about Jaya Alexander because I think he is in a very specific, you know, category here. And I want to be respectful of that. But I think you do, like, if you're the Eagles, you know what types of personality traits you need to kind of be able to stick that landing because they've done it so much. So having experience with that, I think is important.

But, again, it's not going to be a 100% thing. You're not going to bat a thousand. You know, if you prioritize getting guys who were early draft picks who didn't work out. They've also, like, they've diversified their bets. There have been one, you know, there are guys like Julio where it's, okay, this guy was a first-round pick, but also was a star. Yeah. We're getting him at the end of his career. Then there are the Devante Parker types, right, where it's like, well, this guy was a first-round pick because of the tools in his body.

Yeah. Maybe he hasn't gotten the most out of those, but we're going to try to. I feel like that is a little bit less successful. but that's kind of what the Beckton one was. Yeah, I agree. I enjoy when they bring in like the Julio types or like Chris Long. I didn't get to cover Chris Long, but he's an example. Malcolm Jenkins even.

He's probably not quite the same. But he's in the prime of his career. Well, when I say what I appreciate about them, it's similar. They all have like this like really weighty perspective about life and just the game. You know, I like, Julio especially. I mean, Chris Long is another one. Like, what, you feel like I'm overstating Julio? Julio the Eagle.

Yeah. I really enjoyed a Julio tenure with the Eagles as a reporter specifically. Okay. As like a guy that you could just walk up to and like ask questions in the locker room, I thought he was great. Like I think that that it's, it's nice to have those guys in the locker room. And if it's nice for me,

you know, it's like nice for the players too, you know, to be able to talk to somebody that's got that, I don't know, that credibility and everything that they talk about. Yeah. So kind of like me.

And gravitas. Kind of like me. You know, the aura, as the kids say. Yeah. I mean, that's like quality.

Not everybody's been to London as many times as me now. I got that aura. How do you feel about a players' tribune? I enjoy it because I like to hear from players. I mean, I guess I should be a little worried about it as someone who also feels like it's partly my job to help tell players stories. I don't think they've been around long enough. Yeah.

And also, like, they have people who work there that, you know, care. They have people who work there that probably. went through the same schooling process as me and have very similar sensibilities to me that help them, you know, write these stories. So I... Once interviewed for a job of the players to be. Oh, really?

Yes. Yeah, I could see you being great there. But like, how would you feel about like your work would never... I mean, do they give like real credit to the... No, no bylines. Yeah. I was, I came, there...

I think they were like, there were three jobs. interviews I've had that I've maybe talked about. So two during my time with the Eagles and then one after that. One was with U.S. soccer. And that I've talked about before, that was like my dream job. And I, and I'm like writing stories for U.S. soccer. Yeah, being like in charge of their in-house.

That I've been awesome. Yeah. And I would have been, I think I would have been good at that. I'll gas myself up a little bit. but I absolutely tanked that interview. Oh, I did a terrible job. I think you've told me about this off show before.

Yeah, bad job. And then like we talked again a couple years later and so it wasn't just a bad job by me. One was, when I was an intern with the Eagles, the chargers were hiring a, like an, like a full-time position.

Okay. For in-house media. And they offered me the job, but it was a, it was a pay cut from when I was paid as an intern. Ooh. And like, it will cost a living in San Diego?

No, it's probably higher. Did you see? They recently posted a job, like, I forget if it was like video or something, but like the salary was like 50K or something. And people were like, I was supposed to live off that in California. Yeah.

That's like, oh yeah. And you're like a huge corporation. But also like, yeah. I think it was like, I think it was like, I believe it was like 27 and a half. half thousand dollars and was that was the offer i believe and what year was this this was 2010 probably oh geez like that's insane all right yeah but they but they were playing up uh that you get a discount on lunch oh god get out of here with that although san diego anywhere you if you could live

anywhere san diego is high on my list place is great um and then i interviewed at the players and i got to tell you i think i did a good job in interview yeah and i think i would have been very at that job you would have didn't get an offer man do you don't got the job don't yeah you're gonna I did their loss they had you do like a like a mock up mm-hmm and I think it was a I think it was a Russell Wilson story maybe are you serious yeah he like owns partner players should be does he I think he does yeah well like that you I got like the the raw copy of the interview and then like what would you how would you You wrote like a feature about Russell Wilson based off of

Well they didn't publish it That's like how you would put together a story Yeah It is kind of like you have like the raw interview And then you completely rewrite it I want to see if he owns part of Players Tribune Because if Russell Wilson Owns part of Players Tribune

That's a good question. Yeah. No. When I was in college, I applied for the Seattle Times investigative unit internship. Yeah. And they, I did not get that job, but they bumped me down to the Metro intern, which is still a great experience. I was happy that I did it. I lived in Seattle?

For a summer, yeah. I didn't know that. Really? Yeah. Oh, man. There's a group chat that like if they're watching right now, they will be like on fire because like they used to tease me like you make your whole personality that you spent a summer in Seattle.
