Hello everybody and welcome the PHLY Eagles podcast on a nice,
toasty Tuesday afternoon.
We are live from the Xfinity Lounge and we are presented by Ashley.
And we have a mini-camp practice to talk about.
All kinds of good stuff coming your way.
We're going to tell you what Lane Johnson and Dallas Goddard had to say about everything
going on with the birds, Sean Mannion, no Jeff Stoutland.
What was it like for Lane to try to come back last year?
We'll get to that.
E.J. Smith will join us momentarily to talk about what we saw at practice.
But until then, I'm very pleased to be joined by who I consider to be the smartest, most insightful person when it comes to Eagles talk.
And that, of course, is me.
Just me alone.
How does everybody do it?
E.J. is about to come in. Come on in E.J.
And I'm going to tell everybody the story of what it was like watching the first.
seven on seven practice today session in practice because it's a eagles are practicing on the far
side of the field and everybody's got a mosey on over and credit to e.J. actually he was one of the
first ones to start making that move while other people were hoping to get up into the stands.
We go over there and yeah, you want to see jalen hurts. You want to see how the seven on seven
is working against what is a loaded defensive backfield for most of the spring. The defense
has gotten the better of the offense that pretty much continued today.
But everybody really wants to see, okay, we've had two open OTAs,
and they're telling us that Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee are rotating every day.
We've seen Andy Dalton twice.
Does that mean that we've just gotten the bad luck of the draw?
Or does it mean that maybe they're not telling us the truth today, first day of minicamp?
Who's going to get the first rep with the second team?
And there's Andy Dalton under center.
A red rifle.
And Andy Dalton.
drops back to pass on his first snap of the day,
looks to his left,
fires a slant,
complete into the waiting hands of Jalek's hunt
for an interception.
And I gotta tell you,
not the first Andy Dalton interception we've seen this spring.
Probably won't be the last.
Probably won't be the last.
Give it time.
So what is going on here?
Now, we will have real confirmation tomorrow
when they actually have a second practice.
in a row for us to see. It's possible it will be Tanner McKee tomorrow. I am a little bit wary of
that possibility. And so you start to wonder, okay, what are we missing here? What, how do we
explain this a way? Yeah. And there are lots of different explanations. I'll cue you in when you're
ready. I'm going to say, like you just, am I interrupting something here? I had a whole thing planned. I
don't know when you were going to get here. I hustled. I, the chat noticed the movement skills
getting across the set here.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Big man moving.
Notice the pants as well.
We can save that story from over time.
We got a little bit of a note from the FCC.
They said, no, no, too sexy.
Too sexy.
Yeah.
Out of control.
I have a funny note about that.
We'll save it from overtime.
Yeah.
I wanted to add just a quick thing about the Andy Dalton, Tanner McKee thing.
Usually when we've had access, when they've had open practice,
it's been the second day of the practice stretch.
This was the first time.
It's been the first day.
So it should have been.
in Tanner McKee's day by that logic.
I think that is
by the logic of what we thought their OTA practice was,
we already would have seen what was a different schedule
that second OTA.
Anyway, so listen, what are the reasons for this?
Number one is, you know,
maybe there's not that much to it.
They just think that Andy Dalton is a better quarterback.
Sean Mannion and Nick Siriani have adjudicated that
and they think that he is better
and he's going to be the backup quarterback,
and Tanner McKee is, you know,
even if that means that you are torpedoing his trade value,
you don't think that he's that good.
That's a possibility.
Yeah.
Number two is, okay, part of trading for Andy Dalton
and convincing him to come to Philadelphia
and be a good soldier is that you promised him
that he would have a real chance to win this job,
or not even a real chance, but a good chance.
And, you know, he was going to get to,
line share the reps. That's a possibility. It's a possibility that this is part of teaching the offense.
And we have talked about, you know, Andy Dalton is not necessarily like an expert in this
scheme necessarily. It's not all that he's run in his career, but he can help the transition.
And both Jalen and Tanner can watch him do that. The conspiracy theorist possibility is you want to learn Tanner
McKee a little bit better.
You want to test his medal.
You want to see what he's made of because being a quarterback in the NFL is about more
than just, you know, what you can do in the field.
And you want to see how he responds to this little bit of a level of adversity.
I think that's possible.
But what I will say is, you know, I'm not the smartest person in the world.
I've watched football practice, but I'm not a coach.
I'm not a scout.
but Tanner McKee sure looks better than Andy Dalton to me.
Yeah.
So I don't know what's going on.
I completely agree.
I mean, Andy Dalton looked pretty shaky today.
I mean, at the very least, I think the most generous.
He threw a pick to Jalickson.
He had two other ones dropped, like, clean drops.
Chance Campbell dropped one in the end zone,
and then a corner dropped one as well.
And he also found a wide open Elijah Moore
on a coverage bust for a touchdown.
and, you know, fit in a tight window throw to, I believe, E.J. Jenkins.
Yes.
You know, it's not been all bad.
It's been up and down, but it has been shaky at best.
But he is a declining player.
Yeah.
Tanner McKee is, in theory, an ascending player.
We are making a lot out of one little thing.
Well, that's what we're here to do.
But I do remain a little bit mystified by it.
So do I.
I guess maybe this was number two or number three for you, the theories.
Is it possible that Sean Mannion views Andy Dalton as the role that he played so often for your starting quarterbacks?
And the number two quarterback job, like the second team quarterback is not about development.
It's about be a resource to Jalen Hertz.
You know, as Jalen is coming off of the field from his rep,
we want him to see someone who's experienced and comfortable in the scheme run that play.
or run something similar.
You know what I mean?
Like could it be a matter of that second team quarterback?
It's not about like helping Tanner McKee's development path.
It's about serving Jalen Hertz on the practice field.
Well, Chris Cooper told an interesting story when we talked to him yesterday
about his time with Sean Mannion when Sean Mannion was a player and Cooper was a coach
and how Sean Manion would ask him, you know,
he wasn't used to having much of a relationship, a dialogue with backup quarterbacks.
and Sean Menon would ask him questions about protections and stuff
and he came to understand that these were not questions
that Sean Menon was necessarily curious about it.
He was preparing because Kirk Cousins was going to ask these questions
and this way he would have answers.
I think that's possible, but I don't understand at all why that role
couldn't be the number three court.
That explains why you would want to have a veteran quarterback there.
It doesn't explain why he should be taking practice reps away from Tanner McKee.
Listen, I am with you that I think it's strange that Tanner McKee is not the second team quarterback.
I'm just going to keep playing devil's advocate.
Maybe there is a value in, again, Jalen coming off of the field.
It's not like they're running the same plays as the thing.
But it's like maybe there's a value in like Jalen coming off of the field and having that backup quarterback with experience right there, like right there to watch.
I don't know.
You think it would honestly be the opposite or it's like it would be better to have Andy Dalton there to talk to him when he comes off.
Right.
And listen, I also understand that it's a mini-camp.
It's a practice.
And part of the, part of spring practice is testing what works.
And if you're any Dalton, you want to, you know, you look into, you know, what is going to work.
You shouldn't necessarily pull the ball, throw the ball and see what happens.
And maybe you're testing the limitations of both your arm strength and the scheme.
I think you're trying to be too fair here.
I think it's fair.
I think it's fair to say, like, this is one of the more surprising things about the spring workout so far.
Like, if you're talking about, like, what didn't you expect?
that has happened in spring practices.
Andy Dalton being the second team quarterback is high on the list.
When they traded for Andy Dalton, the messaging was this has nothing to do with Tanner McKee.
And like that's, really, that's even before Andy Dalton, you know, the Kenny Pickett trade.
Like there's been a lot of like moves where the Eagles at a quarterback and they, you know, there's a messaging that comes out about we feel great about Tanner McKee.
So I do think it's fair to say like it's not, you know, we're not saying, oh my God, Tanner McKee's gotten demoted.
but at the very least it is fair to say
it's been the biggest surprise
or one of the biggest surprises of the spring.
Okay. The really actually important news
to tell you is that the guys who were absent
for the spring, Lane Johnson, we already mentioned,
was at practice today, full participant
came to be doing everything.
Feeling Carter was also at practice
but not participating in team drills.
You take that to mean that he is just,
he hasn't been paid yet.
Like, you know, I'm not going to necessarily risk anything.
I took it as like he might still not quite be 100%.
Yeah.
And that's probably worse news than if he's not participating in team
because he hasn't gotten paid.
I don't know.
That would surprise me if it's like,
just because he hasn't worked out the extension,
he's not willing to participate in team, you know?
I don't know if it's an unwillingness
and more of it just like, let's be honest here.
Like let's not risk anything.
Maybe.
I think if he was 100% healthy, he'd be out there.
I believe Joe Tryon-Shoyenka, the only player.
one that wasn't there.
He was not there,
and he has been absent the past few weeks,
so I don't know what's going on there.
Yeah, what's up with that?
I hope everything's okay.
Yeah, yeah.
Obviously, I hope everything's right
in his personal life.
If that is the case,
like it's a little eyebrow raising,
you know, is there something down on?
Yeah, I mean,
you got to imagine a player
who is fighting for a roster spot
has a reason to not be
at mandatory meeting camp.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Let's take a break.
We'll reset.
We'll come back and find out
what your big takeaways were
from practice.
Jay, you talk to Lane, Dallas Goddard, who else?
We heard from Jaylick Hunt.
We heard from Rieke Wollin.
I got a Rieckwlin take on the other side of this break.
Take on the other side of the break, stay tuned.
Five years ago today, transactions, the Eagles,
signed the following draft picks, Devante Smith,
Milton Williams, Zach McPherson, and Kenneth Gainwill.
Devante went from being the number one
then playing four years with AJ Brown
who wasn't even on the team then.
Now he's going to be the number one again.
Milton Williams played his entire rookie contract,
then got paid.
Zach McPherson got injured.
Kenneth Gainwell,
good Eagles career,
became the Steelers player of the year,
and now he's somewhere else.

We are back on the P.H.I. Eagles podcast.
Bo-Wolf E.J. Smith, the Great Eagles Insider, E.J., let's talk on the field.
What were your big takeaways from the action on the field?
One of my biggest takeaways from not just this practice, but in this,
over the course of the spring in general,
is that Rikwlin's stock is just skyrocketing right now.
I mean, you see him on the field,
like the physical presence jumps out right at you.
And this isn't just like us saying this.
Like there's a lot of energy around Rikwlin
from the players and the coaching staff throughout the spring as well.
He's had a really strong spring.
He had a really nice rep against Devante Smith today.
Across the middle of the field.
Yeah, ran stride for stride with Devante
across the middle of the field,
which is a tough assignment for a cornerback usually.
Like, you know, chasing a brucement.
receiver across the field like that. And by the way, a ball that Jalen threw. Yeah. Yeah. And I think is it
fair to say that Jalen like half-heartedly threw it? Because he kind of knew like it. It was like
it's like the third read and yeah, he had to get rid of the ball. It's like a desperation. Like I'll
give you a chance. But no, Rik Wulin, he's looked excellent all spring. You know, like I said,
like that that was something that I guess was a little bit foreshadowed by Vick Fangio being really
bullish on Rik Wollin saying he was surprised that Rikwlin didn't command more of a market and
free agency. You know, like I asked around about him.
after that and heard that everyone's really excited about the way he looked
throughout the spring and he's backed it up on the field.
So I don't know if it's something that he feels like he has to prove.
He didn't really get into that too much when he's at the podium,
like whether or not he feels like this is a prove it year.
But I'm going to be honest with you.
I'm going to keep pushing this one.
I'm going to stay in the front of the requal and, you know,
I guess you call it the bandwagon or I'm going to be steering the ship here.
To me, like this looks like another one of these like prove it.
Prove-it deal Eagle signings that so often work out well for them.
A player that has a lot of upside still left to achieve,
a player that's trying to prove to the NFL.
Like, I deserve the long-term extension that I saw it in free agency last year.
I think there's a reason to be bullshund.
Who was a comp to that?
I mean, Zach Bond's a cop, but I'm not going Zach Bond.
He was a scrap heap player.
I mean, Sequin is a bit of a similar situation.
Yeah, but that wasn't a one-year, like one-year-review deal.
do a lot of one year. There's not a lot of recent. Usually when they sign like the one year
guys, they are like lesser known commodities. Yeah. But I think that those experiences have informed,
you sign a player like requal one on a one year deal. And you say like, you can earn your next
contract by playing well here. I'm trying not to not to just pick nits, just to pick nits.
I think what's interesting about the requal and signing is that it is so different, it is much
different than the kinds of signings they've done in the past. We've seen, we've seen the players.
Usually guys who are one-year deals are like declining veterans.
You know what I mean?
It's a Dori Jackson.
Yeah, but Rieckwlin doesn't fit in that.
And he's not like that.
This is a player who is truly like this is a unique opportunity,
a player in the prime of his career to sign for $14 million,
pay him real money.
And then he is hoping that he can use that and make $100 million next year.
It's still a prove-it deal, though.
I agree that they haven't signed a lot of like young ascending players on
proof-it deals.
You don't find those guys very often.
I mean, you could throw them in the camp of like Aziz Ojalari, honestly.
Like as like a, I mean, again, Requelins played a lot better than Aziz Ojalari.
Yeah.
But we have seen them take flyers on players like that.
I think it is different.
I think we are now arguing different parts of the argument.
Mackay Bechtin.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's a good example.
But they didn't pay him what they played.
No, but that's, yeah.
Yeah.
But I think you sign Reekwlin because you have those experiences.
Like you have, you have experiences with Mackay Bechtin.
And I would say Zach Bonn, it's different,
but you have those experience like guys who are then able to say Kwan,
like guys who want to prove it,
you know, guys who want to show the league
that their evaluation may or may not have been right.
So I'm getting on board.
I'm driving the ship.
I am with you on having been impressed by Rick Willen.
A couple things just to play devil's advocate.
Sure.
One, this, he truly the kind of player who should look good
in this setting.
Now, it's a passing camp.
It's always difficult to be a corner in these situations,
but he is a height, weight, speed guy in shorts.
He should look good.
And then I did, for the first time in three practices,
he did get beat deep today by Devante,
and the ball was just overthrown by Jalen Hertz
down the middle of the field.
But other than that, I mean,
I have been impressed with how much he has been willing to,
he's been able to just run with,
and it does feel like he's gotten more work against Devante
in particular than Quigion.
has. I feel like he and Devante have been matched up the most.
Yeah, I would agree with that.
Yeah, I agree mostly that, like, he should look good this time of year, but he's not
a player that's, like, struggled with physicality.
So that's usually, like, that's the red flag for me.
I guess, but, like, the JJ Arthago white sides of the world.
Could he be, like, the cornerback version?
Yeah.
Where it's just, like, heightweight speed guys usually look good.
I wouldn't call JJ a speed guy.
Yeah, he was not a speed guy.
That was kind of his issue.
Yeah.
One of the things that I noticed today,
which is just a sort of football fan catnip,
is it was during a special teams period.
I think it was like punt returners.
And you've got Quinyan and Rick Wullen on the sideline,
and Jonathan Jones has them captivated,
just talking about some kind of specific detail.
And he's just sort of showing it.
And these two guys are trying to, you know,
eat up the veterans' knowledge.
It was just fun to watch.
That is why I was excited to get into the studio today
because you observe practice better than anybody else.
No, you don't hand-wave it.
It's true.
It's not true.
It's just observing different things.
It's true.
Yeah, you observe more details.
I do have a detailed bone to pick with you
if you want me to do it now or save it for later.
Is this?
Yeah, go ahead.
It's fine.
I'm not claiming that I observe practice as well as you were fine.
It's not a practice thing.
Okay.
It's about me.
It's personal.
it's about the show
okay
go ahead
minicamp is one word
oh okay that's important
thank you
usually you know
I'm used to having an editor
that was me
I changed it
I like how it looked
you changed it
yeah
oh Lindsay what are we doing
I don't
that's not a real word
let's say I don't care
I'll take the blame
so you don't blame me Jay
but I stick by it
well it's wrong
it looks better
it doesn't matter if it looks better
sometimes something's not like centered
but like if it doesn't
if it looks off center
but it is technically centered
then you go what looks better
just spit off way more than you can't
no no no no no you can't just misspell a word
to make it to make it
centered miss spelling I want the
I want the record to show
I wasn't gonna
I mean technically
on the show
if you you guys can't see that
but on my on my post
when I posted it on social media
I know I know how to do it
I know how to spell mini-can.
That's why I jumped in.
I'll give you credit.
You wrote it right.
I'll give you all kinds of credit.
Where to be the bigger person?
Miriam Webster says both.
AP style for football is, is.
Yeah, but Lindsay's not going to know AP style.
I know that.
Wait, that's rude.
We don't have to keep talking about.
I went to college.
I'm not saying you don't know what a big style is.
No, he said Lindsay does it know AP style.
That's not fair.
Well, you don't, you have it.
Okay.
I am ready to move on from this.
I'll put my hand up.
I said I said we could say it for later.
It's fine. It's fine.
All right. So, Rick Willett, your number one takeaway.
What's number two?
Oh, this is like a little bit of a deep cut.
But I want to talk about it.
And I want to know what you think about it.
I'm a little worried about Eli Stowers.
Like, I don't want to overreact to spring practices.
But I mean, how many times is he in your notebook?
I think is the exercise we should have here.
From today?
Yeah.
Not once.
Zero.
I have zero notes about Eli Stowers.
I'm a little worried.
The thing, it's been kind of a slow trickle where it's like when we first went out there for rookie
minicamp, mini camp, rookie minicamp, he was a little smaller than I thought he was going to be.
Just so like, yeah.
Immediately thought like, okay, like I could see why teams were like, maybe we should work him out at receiver.
I could see that just from the build.
you would have expected to be a little taller or a little bit bigger.
And then it's like, okay, fine.
Like, his thing is movement.
But, like, this is the time of the year where that should really be popping out to you.
That should just stand out.
Yeah, he's just not in my notes enough.
I just, I'm not saying his career is over.
Yeah, of course.
I'm just saying that, like,
it's possible that he hasn't been on the field as much for some other reason,
whether he's dealing with some minor injury or something like that.
But the truth is, I mean,
ball has not really gone his way and it doesn't look like he's flashing athletically in other
ways. Yeah. It doesn't mean much, but it has been a disappointing spring. Yeah, as we go through
our notes, or lack there of, that is something that is worth noting. Um, you know, like by comparison,
I'm sure one of your big notes and we can talk about this next if you want, like Johnny Wilson,
like that, he had a good day today. He's having a good day. And like, that's like, yeah, like, that's what
you would have liked to see from Eli Stowers at some point.
You know, again, we're talking marginal things here,
but you would have liked to see Eli Stowers make a couple wow plays in the spring
if you were hoping that he was, he's going to be a part of your passing game
this, as a rookie.
Yeah, we have seen nothing this spring to suggest he's going to be a part of the first team
offense in any significant way.
Yes.
But he can certainly earn his way onto it.
Yeah, and he can develop.
There's a long way to go.
You know, Dallas Goddard mentioned that Eli Stowers's vertical jump
is something that has really, you know, impressed all of them.
You know, he said, like, you know, the question was like,
what stood out most to you?
And he said, like, when you get him on the force plate,
it's like he jumps out the gym.
So he's got physical tools.
No doubt.
We just haven't really seen them on the field yet.
Okay.
What else can we talk about from on the field stuff?
I mean, listen, there is, there is no doubt that when it's the ones against the ones,
the defense is ahead of the offense,
which is what you would expect.
We continue to see a whole lot of under-center
and under-center play action,
and so I think we can officially say
that that wasn't just like one day's practice.
Like that is going to be a major part of the offense.
I don't feel like any of the other receivers
beyond Devante have particularly super flashed.
Hollywood Brown, have a nice catch today.
Hollywood Brown had a nice catch today.
Now, keep in mind.
Mackay Lemon still not practicing today
dealing with a hamstring injury that he's dealing with.
Sorry, I'm getting my notes up.
Tay Wicks has only occasionally been on the field.
You did Tay Wicks, like Nick.
That's what Nick's called him, so I don't know if that's what he called.
Tate Wicks is a funny name.
Like, you know, not in a, not in a disrespectful way.
It's just, I don't know, it's got like a,
it's got such like an unorthodox feel to it.
Yeah.
It's like staccato in a way that I kind of enjoy.
Elijah Moore has made a couple plays.
Yeah.
but they had that situational period I think it was like third and five here I have it in my notes somewhere
um do you remember the situation I'm talking about oh yes yeah yeah so yeah they did a couple call at
periods and I think our understanding is it's fair to say yeah I got to hear that part of this is
giving Sean Mannion a little bit of a of a test yeah this is going to be overly negative now that
we are framing it this way but that's fair yeah so the the the situations today the ones that they
called were sort of four minute offense type deals where it was like two 15 left one time
out up by one yeah essentially if you get a first down you win the game should i not do this now
should i save it for later no you got it because the first one the first play they did they they
got it yeah and it was a flat route to got it yeah it was a little it was a play action boot to
the left completion to dallas got her yeah because i stupidly asked you if it was an rPO
right you pointed out that it was under center i just didn't see he was under second um it was a
tough advantage yeah it was a really tough angle that
day. All right. So now that we said, like, they were successful on the first one,
like they had a good play call, drew it up well, executed well. The second one,
Nick calls out third and six from the plus 35, four minute drill. And they cooked up a quick
screen to Elijah Moore. But it wasn't even a screen. It was just a quick pass. Yeah, it was just like a
quick. He was in the slot and they just threw the ball really quick. And I don't, I mean, again,
tough angle to see if he really gained anything. I don't think he gained a yard. No, but that's, I
I think that's fine because you're practicing a situation.
Maybe it's a situation where it's third and six,
but you're willing to go for it because they're on the plus 45, right?
Yeah, plus 35.
So you're willing to go for it on fourth down potentially.
Yeah.
So you're trying to steal four yards.
It's fine.
It was just funny.
Like I think I heard multiple reporters be like,
that's the play that they cooked up was.
Well, it's funny in the context of like Sean Maine is the smartest guy I've ever been around.
And you know, got to have it.
Let's throw the ball really quickly to the last mark.
Well, listen, it's, it is.
June 9th, it's going to be fine.
Yeah.
I had other notes from practice.
Give me some offensive line, depth chart stuff.
So Lane Johnson, who of course had been absent for the spring portions of practice that we had seen was back today.
And so you've got the starting five as expected.
And that means that then with the second team offensive line, Markell Bell, who had been the replacement first team right tackle, goes back to left tackle.
Yeah.
while Fred Johnson is at right tackle.
So this speaks to Markle Bell truly being cross-trained across both positions, which is interesting.
The rest of the second team offensive line, you have Miles Hinton at left guard.
So if you've just been joining us, of course, everybody talking about the fact that Miles Hinton moving from tackle to guard this off season.
Drew Kendall has been injured, and so he's not practicing with the team drills.
And so that leaves Jake Majors as your second team center.
And John Ojuquo as your second team, right guard.
today and then with the threes at left tackle you've got holland pierce who has done the reverse
miles hinted moving from guard to tackle left guard jaden Roberts center our friend willie lambkin
right guard micha morris and third team right tackle Cameron williams so i had two takeaways from that
switching markelle bell back to left tackle noteworthy absolutely there um it speaks to what we've
talked about which is that chris cooper seems like he's immediately going to cross train markelle bell
not going to let him settle in.
Be interesting to see how that develops.
It's hard to evaluate these guys this time of year.
I think we'll be able to tell him training camp.
But maybe, you know, like this time of year is a good time to get him these reps
because there's really not a lot at stake.
You know, like if you mess up your steps,
the rushers like, you know, shooting off the ball and like taking one step and that's it.
So I think it does make sense to kind of get him those reps early.
It'll be interesting to see how it looks in training camp, though.
The other thing that I wanted to talk about, I, again, everything we're saying we're couching, like it could be an overreaction.
I feel like Lannon Dickerson does look like he's moving better.
No knee braces, no sleeves.
I think that's the first thing that, like, is encouraging.
When you see him move an individual, to me, it looks like he's moving better than he did last year.
Now, that's a low bar, but still, he looks more like himself out there, which I think, you know, reading the T-leaves on, like, the biggest things that could impact the Eagles.
sure a small sign of encouragement i would say now cam jurgins was supposed to talk today did you leave
before he talked he didn't talk he didn't talk at all he did not talk today so you left and there was
nobody left to talk there was nobody yeah that it was over it was um jlickson it was the last one to speak
okay you thought i like intentionally it was like avoiding cam jurgens i consider that as a
possibility i don't have like a vendetta against cam juries i actually would have loved to hear from him
I want to hear how his offseason's been and how he's feeling.
He wouldn't have told you anything.
You don't know that.
You don't know that.
All right, let's take a break here on the P.H.O. Eagles podcast.
More practice notes on the other side and what Lane Johnson said about whether you wanted to come back or not, playing without Jeff Staland.
And why he's actually quite excited for this offense.
Introducing your newest eagle, Elijah Mitchell.
And also, Wawa now has tacos.
Your new craving, baby.
Wawa is expanding its freshly prepared food lineup with new seasoned beef tacos available for just a limited time.
And they're built to deliver bold, craveable flavor in every single bite.
We are talking warm.

Next, I want to thank all of you for being a part of the PHOI community.
I remember it's almost coming up on a year anniversary of last year's Ospreys when I joined the team and I was blown away by the community that PHOI had already built.
And now it's really been special for me to be a part of it.
And I hope it's a special for you guys as well.
And I want to tell you that we're always looking to improve our shows and better understand how you listen and which you value most.
And that's why we've launched a new quick survey.
It's feedback that helps us shape the content that you love and make it even better.
and you guys can really take agency over this and let us know the areas that you want us to improve.
It only takes a few minutes, but it can make a big impact.
So take a moment and head to all p.gly.com slash poll and let your voice be heard.
Again, that's all phto y.com slash poll.
Respondents have a chance to win a $100 Amazon gift card just in time for the summer.
And again, guys, I just want to say we appreciate you.
We're back in the PHLY Eagles podcast.
Beau and E.J.
All right, any final practice notes
before we get to the press conferences?
Linebacker rotation.
Saw some chance Campbell.
Got a little bit of time with the ones.
Next to Zach Bonn.
Yeah, and Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Like, I don't feel bad for the guy, you know?
It's like, he looks good whenever he's out there.
Well, that's the thing is even when he makes,
he's all over the place.
Yeah.
In a good way.
Like, he's making place in the backfield and practice all the time.
I don't, I wouldn't take this to be a,
a bad thing for Trotter necessarily.
Well, yeah, not a bad thing for him
in the sense that he's playing really well.
I feel bad for him because
if he were like, he's like
just a couple years late. If he were
on the single team like six years ago,
he might be the best linebacker on the team.
That's a good point. So no, I just feel
bad for him in terms of like an opportunity
that he won't get.
I mean, I guess we said the same thing
about Nicopi last year, so you never say
never, but yeah, he just
he looks like, let me put it this way.
When they drafted Jeremiah Trotter Jr.,
and you envisioned like the best case scenario
for what he could turn into as an eagle.
Like it's this great story,
and you kind of figured like,
there's a chance he might always just be a special team's ace,
you know, a depth option for them.
Like, I think he's probably hit the ceiling
that you would have envisioned for him.
Or at least he's very close to it.
In terms of caliber of player or role?
Calibur of player, not role.
Yes, the caliber of player that he is.
Yeah, I agree with that.
I feel like the bet the Eagles made on him was like, you know,
this is a guy who might not have all of the elite traits at the position,
but he's instinct, he's got instincts, he's got pedigree,
and, like, he's got the thing they always talk about.
Like, he's going to hit whatever his ceiling is.
I think we are seeing that play out,
and it's just, it's a bummer that he won't get an opportunity to really flourish
because he's got, yeah, again, the Nicoboian experience,
never say never, but it's a bummer that, like,
even for him to ever show that,
it's going to take, like, you know,
being like twice as good, honestly,
which is a bummer.
Yeah.
I think the Chance Campbell thing
is probably more of a reflection of Smile Mountain.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's like if you're only going to carry
like one depth linebacker
that's got to contribute on special teams,
what has Chance Campbell shown you behind the scenes?
Obviously, our friend, Zach Berman,
had a really good piece.
A lot of the most prominent members of the Eagles roster,
including Saquan Barkley said
that Chance Campbell was one of the standout players
on the scout team last year.
So this is a guy that has a lot of fans
in the locker room.
And I think you're starting to see
Eagles reward that scout team performance
with some of those first team reps.
We should note that Michael Carter
took like two or three reps
with the ones at safety next to Drew McCuba
in place of Marcus Epps,
but it has still mostly been Marcus Epps.
And I would still say that I would say
that Marcus Epps is still a frontrunner for that job.
I would agree with that, but I thought it was interesting to see Michael Carter out there.
But it was like, it was funny.
He got in it like midway through the period.
He got like two snaps.
Yeah, because they were in base for the most part.
Yeah.
I do like this thing that they're doing with the twos,
which is that Mac Mac Mac Williams and Jonathan Jones are like rotating inside outside.
Yeah.
Both of them showing that they can do both things, which is a nice thing to see.
Yeah.
Mac Mac Williams, although was, I think Johnny Wilson beat him maybe twice.
Oh, is that who, yeah, okay.
So he was matched up against Mac MacM Williams on those?
I think so.
That is a big mismatch.
That's the cautionary tale with the big receiver.
Let's see, what else do I have here?
James Prochet, who we talked about.
Yeah.
As a tryout player who's with them, he does, I will say.
I mean, he fields the ball as a punt returner very naturally.
Okay.
I was trying to figure out prochet and then there was a mystery man.
Did we get to the bottom?
Yeah, we don't know with that mystery man.
The mystery man.
There's somebody there who we did.
It was not on the roster.
It was hard to tell.
I sent Lindsay the video of Lana Dickerson going through Indy.
Did you like to see it?
Sure.
Get a little original content on the show.
Oh, C.
Yeah, Lindsay.
Sorry, Lindsay.
Unbelievable.
Yeah, I know.
At least I didn't, you know, accuse you of misspelling something.
Well, I didn't accuse her.
It's on air.
It was on air.
You and then she stepped in.
Yeah.
Lindsay's a real one for that.
You're the one who's expecting here to pull this thing together real quick.
I wasn't expecting anything.
I just, you know, just mentioned I had it.
Maximus Pully had a big PbU that everybody was excited about.
Shout out to Maximus.
How'd the Gush do today?
Not in my notes.
Yeah, but I didn't have it in my notes either.
It was a very funny play.
They were doing, it was like an end-of-game drill down by the Red Zone,
and there was a tackle near the sideline,
and the defense was all saying
like the clock is supposed to still going
and I've never seen Vic Fangio
so animated. Vic is doing the full
windmill
like third base coach
like keep the clock running
he was really into it.
I did see that. It was very funny.
He was like he was kind of jumping up and down doing it.
I don't know if Vic had that in his bag.
I mean I love the energy.
It's yeah.
I respect the older coaches.
Vic Fangio.
I respect the older coaches
who were out there on their feet.
all day. Like, you know, you're out there for a couple hours. Your back starts to get tight.
Yeah, I know that's right. I've had a lot of back issues this week. Um, one other thing I had for you,
I don't know if you were at, uh, around that part of the field. Nick was like really getting on
those guys about ball security during the ball security drill. Did you catch that? I did not see that.
He was upset with, um, I don't know who it was specifically. He was upset with maybe the group or a few
players for not finishing the drill with like the elbow lock because then he was saying like,
that's the guy behind you is going to get the ball from you if you don't finish the play.
So I just, I thought it was an interesting and important window into like the mind of Nick Siriani.
Like he really does, like he is so passionate about these like four or five very key fundamentals that he has, I mean, honestly, he's shown have the effect winning.
He cares about them so deeply that it's like it's June 9th.
It's the first day of mandatory minicamp.
And there are a couple guys who probably aren't used to him.
being so particular about this and he's like I'm going to be just as particular as I usually
am about this like I think it's honestly I think it's a good thing for Nick like that he's constantly
he's constantly pushing these fundamentals that you know the Eagles have been successful with
I think that's right yeah all right you want to see Landon moving let's do it looks pretty good right
sure I mean for Landon Dickerson compared to last year I mean just the fact that he's not wearing
braces. Yeah.
I, uh, it looks a little bit like Danny Watkins to me, but, oh, man, that's tough.
Saying what came into my head. Oh, that's not nice. I think he looks better than, I mean,
I didn't see Danny Watkins up close. Danny Watkins could move. I have another thing for you.
Speaking of watching that clip made me think of it. I'll be honest with you. Chris Cooper
Redemption today. Chris Cooper Redemption today. I thought their individual period was crisp.
I wasn't over there today.
The tempo was way higher than a Jeff Staling practice.
Okay, interesting.
They had fewer props.
The only prop they had.
There's just one sledgehammer with a watermelon?
Now we're talking.
They had medicine balls.
Gallagher, ass coach.
Imagine if he watched this.
Because he doesn't seem like a guy who laughs himself very much.
He's going to be mad that you accuse him of being from Arkansas.
Well, he's just going to be embarrassed for me.
probably they they had so they had medicine balls out at practice and the the medicine ball was to make
sure that everybody's like stance was as low as it needed to be like your you're your I mean I guess
it's your inside leg has to touch the medicine ball when you're in your stance okay that was the only
prop and yeah the tempo like those guys were getting in and out really quick um I don't know if it's like
you know with I mean maybe it's just to get more reps or maybe it's conditioning but I I I'll be honest
I, as underwhelmed as I was
when all the props were out
and they were doing like all this like yoga ball stuff,
I was impressed today.
Chris Cooper Redemption.
And he was in his Miyagi era.
It's all starting to come together.
Maybe,
maybe he was like,
I'll do all like the,
the cookie stuff when Lane's not here.
Yeah, good idea.
Like, you know,
when Lane gets here,
I'm probably not breaking out like yoga balls
and, you know,
polls and all kinds of props.
Like, let's just get back to the ball.
Well, E.J.
a good natural transition out of you
because let's talk about Lane Johnson.
Yeah.
We have not heard from Lane Johnson since November.
Yeah, many of you have been, it was early November.
And certainly a lot has happened since then.
Yes.
He's got the Liz Frank injury.
We think he's going to come back.
He's not able to come back.
Then we're wondering if he's going to retire.
Then Jeff Staland is no longer the offensive line coach.
Now he's back.
We're all very eager to hear from him.
Plus, he's always a fun person to talk to because he's not sugarcoating anything.
He's going to tell the truth.
I thought there were four or five really interesting things that he said.
What jumped out to you?
Yeah, I agree.
There were probably four or five.
I'm not sure I'm ready for the first pick,
but I think what people will want to know about
is the experience that he had last year trying to come back.
And, you know, the fact that Eagles never put him on injured reserve
because they left the door open for him to return.
And he talked about, you know, returning to practice in anticipation of,
I think it was definitely the playoff game.
But I feel like in the weeks even leading up to that, he was trying to test out.
Yeah.
Yeah, trying to test out that injury.
And he said basically just like his foot would swell up terribly after a practice or two.
And then he couldn't play.
And I thought, you know, in conjunction with that, him basically saying that as he considered retirement, which was a real thing.
And he acknowledged that, the feeling of not wanting to go out, not wanting his career to end the way that it did last season being a real thing.
driving force for him to come back, which I thought was really, really cool to hear.
Yeah, but that's, I mean, that's also a difficult game to play, right?
It's, I mean, it's like being in a blackjack table and you're like, oh, well, I don't want to,
I don't want to go down 50 bucks.
Like, I'm going to get back up to even, but, and you keep losing.
Like, you know, Lane could get hurt again.
And then is it going to be like, okay, I don't want to go like that.
But, you know, it's a difficult gamble to take.
Yeah.
But it's also, this is a prideful guy.
He's still, when healthy, playing.
at a very high level.
That's the thing.
That's the thing there.
Because with Jason Peters,
like,
yes,
it's like,
you know,
how many times
you're going to try
and come back
and then show
the player that you believe
you can be
and, you know,
fall short of that
or fall short of the standard
that,
the incredibly high standard
that you set for yourself.
Lane's still playing
at a high enough level
where I'm not,
I'm not worried about
what he's going to look like this season.
He mentioned in the press conference too
that his career has been a rare one
where he's gotten better
as he's aged into his 30s.
So, yeah, I think, you know, I think it was at least, like, interesting to hear, like, the thought process that he grappled with.
He talked about, you know, the family side of things being the reason that he did consider retirement.
You know, he talks about his parents are getting older.
Which is, I mean, everybody can relate to that.
It's a very human thing.
So, yeah, I thought it was good to hear from him about that process, that thought process.
And, yeah, the bottom line was he wants his career to end on a better note than the way.
that it ended last year.
And, now this is not the reason he chose to come back because it wasn't decided at this
point, but boy, does he sound excited about this offense and what it's going to do for him.
He's talking about he's never had guard help before in his entire career, and he's going to get
that now.
He's like the ability to like sort of punish defenders because they don't necessarily
expect you to be coming.
He's talking about how he's looked at this offense his whole career as like,
kind of envious about what it can do and the way that it challenges defenses.
He was talking about how they were really stagnant on offense last season.
And so, I mean, from a relatively reliable narrator and a truth teller in that locker room
to be that excited about the offense and specifically from the offensive line,
I thought that was pretty telling.
Yeah, I thought Lane did the best job that I've heard so far,
kind of separating, like the admiration for Jeff Stout,
Yes.
And the love that they have for the man and the love that they have for the coach.
Yes.
And the talent developer for the scheme that they ran last year that Jeff Stoughton was a big part in authoring.
And like when you like as I've covered this Stoutland thing over the last several months,
you hear both sides of that argument.
And I feel like most of the time the offensive linemen are very careful because of their respect for Jeff Stoughtlin.
I thought that Lane was probably,
I mean, I don't want to say the other guys
weren't being honest.
But I think if you listen to Lane,
the way he talks about it,
I mean,
it's clear that they view it as,
you know,
what they didn't like about the scheme
and the coaching points
were Stout doing the bidding of the scheme itself.
Because Lane talked about
the closest comparison that he's had
to what they're going to be asked to be doing
is when he played for Doug
and what the Doug offense is doing
and like more three-point stances and stuff like that.
And that was Stout.
Yeah.
So.
Right.
Yeah, that's fair.
But I,
I do think, like, he made it clear that, like, the way that they operated offensively last year,
they wanted to operate differently. And I think you could spend a lot of time figuring out why
they operated that way and who was responsible for it. You'll get different answers if you talk
to different people. So it's not a total, it's not totally about stout. But again, I do think he did
a good job of separating, like, his love and appreciation for Jeff Stoutland, but his excitement
for being, you're playing for Chris Cooper and Sean Manion.
operating in this scheme. Yeah, he basically
he said, like, you know, I have a lot of love for Jeff
Stoutland, but like, you know,
I hope that this new system
makes us less stagnant as an offense.
And yeah, I did think it was very
noteworthy that he said, like, he's watched
the Kubiak, McVeigh, Shanahan's systems
from afar and been envious of them.
Yeah. Like, envious of what those guys
get to do. It reinforces what I said yesterday.
Like, I think he's going to be a big beneficiary.
Yeah, it was a good call out of you.
Yeah, you know, I have a couple.
I also was the one who bought the regents.
woolen stock, but I don't need to take victory laps, you know.
Well, that's a little less.
And especially me banging the drum for a cornerback in the summer.
It's got me in trouble before.
All right.
Time for our last break.

Back on P.HL.O. Eagles podcast, Bonnie and Jay.
I got something to say.
Got something to go with chest.
Uh-oh.
Big chest.
This is, thank you.
I appreciate that.
I've been working on it.
Wait, why is it okay to say that to a boy, but not a girl?
I mean, I think we all know.
Double standards.
People.
I appreciate everybody here watching.
You know, it's obviously we've come right off the practice field with our observations.
I was, you know, hustling over here to get here from Eagles Press conferences.
I know there's a lot of you watching right now.
Can you just like the video?
we're a little low on likes today.
Like, you know, I was excited about this show.
I was hopeful.
Do us a favor.
I like the video.
It helps us out a lot.
So, you know, I was just watching during the ad break,
watching you do some great ad reads,
and I was looking at that like total.
I got to get that like total out.
Got to let you know also that we've got the PHLY Philly
Phillies tailgate coming up on June 20th.
Philly's Mets.
Great opportunity to hang out,
take in some good ball.
The official, P-H-L-Y-Telgate, Best in the City,
sponsored by Wawa, Philly Sports Trips, and Caves.
Was there one other thing?
That's right, it's time for Taco Tuesday,
presented by our friends at Wawa.
I really felt a part of a moment,
a summer celebration.
When I mentioned this in the adri the other day,
we were driving up to the Poconos this weekend,
and I saw the billboard for Wawa tacos.
Like, oh, yeah, I'm part of that team.
I'm in.
The Wawa family?
Yeah, Taco Tuesday family.
Yeah, what a family.
I'm probably going to Wawa today.
What did Dallas Gondert have to say?
Two things that Dallas Gauter mentioned that I thought were really noteworthy.
The first being his free agency decision, I mean, obviously the Eagles kept pushing back his void dates to try and renegotiate.
his contract or sign him to an extension before those cap charges accelerated onto their cap.
And he said that his decision came down to like coming back to do special things with the
Eagles. And in tandem with that, he said basically like as he evaluated his options, he said like,
you know, he got to test for agency in a way. He said nothing was a better opportunity than what
I would have had coming back to the Eagles. So my read on that was, you know, someone would have had to
blow him away with an offer for him to not just re-sign with the Eagles. But I mean, we said at
the time, he signed a relatively team-friendly deal. I do think it is reflective of like the value
that he saw and staying with this organization. Yeah. I don't think like, interesting to hear
from his perspective. Yeah, I don't think you took a significant pay cut to come back, to be honest.
Like, but based off what the market was, I mean, I see, I think he's, I think he signed for less than we
expected yeah yeah it was like 8 million i think he signed for um and we were expecting to be like around
10 he probably got offers that were closer to 10 if i had to guess uh and what was the second thing
those were the things those are the two things um he was complimentary of eli stowers uh he said that he's
studied tight ends in the system um the ones you'd expect though like george kittle tucker craft um yeah
so it was good to hear from him it's been a while since we've heard from him uh interesting to
hear about his free agency process.
And how about Rik Wullen?
Rik Wullen said that he and Quineon Mitchell are like brothers.
He said Quinawitch Mitchell actually just had his first child.
Really?
Yeah.
And Rieke Wollins said that he's going to be a great father.
They honestly seemed close.
Like I didn't think it was like lip service from him.
And Rieke Wollin said that he like...
Do you have a question?
Go ahead.
The fact that Rieke Wollin is throwing out he's going to be a good father,
going to be a great father.
at this early juncture of their friendship.
Yeah.
Does it make you question whether people saying it to you as an expecting father is more of a platitude than an actual honest statement?
Um.
And also, how do they know?
Well, they won't know.
And also, who knows what their value for what a good father is?
If someone who you think is not that good of a father tells you you're going to be a great father, maybe that's not a good father.
No, but that's what I was going to tell you is the only people who have told me are also great fathers.
Like I told I said on the show on Friday you weren't here
When Fran told me I was gonna be a great dad
Before everybody knew it was during an ad break
I remember I remember that moment
If somebody could like go back and find it
Which I'm sure you wouldn't be able to
I was like fighting back tears
Like because that that I'm not fighting my tears
Now I promise
Like it was like it really hit my heart
Like I hadn't I don't know if anybody had said it to me yet
I remember when he said that I was like oh that was a really nice thing to say
It's really sweet
I appreciate Fran
But now Rick Willen has made it
feel a little bit less.
No, I don't think so.
As long as I respect, I mean, if anyone tells you
be a great dad, I appreciate it.
I have to earn it, though.
I have to prove that.
Oh, yeah, you get a long way to go, my friend.
Yeah, no, I'm...
Usually I say, I hope you're right.
We should have other, or like parent minicamp for,
two words, for E.J.
Parent mini camp?
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I'm changing diapers.
I am feeding bottles.
Is that what we're doing?
Feeding bottles?
I don't know.
I've never had to get you one of those dolls that just like cries all night.
Yeah, like they're in high school.
That sounds terrible.
Yeah.
No, Zach Berman recommended a sleep training book.
I got it all figured out.
It's easy game.
That'll do it.
Yeah.
Does that surprise you that that's the thing that Zach recommended to me?
No, because I remember he recommended that book to me as well.
Did you read it?
Yeah.
It's a very short book.
Yeah, it's very quick.
Yeah.
I read it.
Not to brag, but I probably read it in like an hour.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's pretty digestible.
Yeah, I read that book like really fast, man.
Yeah, great.
Anything else from McGuillon?
He said that he loves football movies.
Like he was a football movie junkie when he was a kid.
Okay.
Because, you know, he was talking about Invincible and how you watch that movie before he joined the Eagles.
So as he's walking off the movie before.
podium, I wanted to know, like, do you prefer Friday Night Lights the movie or the TV show?
And he was noncommittal. You know, he said both. But let's be real. I mean, if you've seen the show,
there's no way you can like the movie more. Yes, there is. What are we doing here? The show is like,
it's like junk food. It's like glorified reality TV. It's drama. Oh, what's going to happen with
Riggins? Oh my God. Coming from you.
TV show. That is insane.
Yeah, the person who loves reality TV.
I like reality TV. And I
watched DeGrassey when I was a kid.
I liked these shows, but the movie
is like emotional.
It's starring. It's a beautiful story.
It's based off a great book.
The movie is a better product
than the TV show. The TV show is
as my dad would put it. It's something to watch.
You know, it's fine. I'm not saying this TV show is
bad. But the movie
is such a deeper emotional
story. Like the story of
Boobo Miles playing out in that movie is so much more powerful than anything that happens in the TV
show. The movie is better. And Rick Wollin appreciates the movie. I appreciate him for that.
I have something to admit. Never seen either. Really? I think that's fine. Watch the movie.
See, I think I would like the show more. Of course. A big one tree hill. The show is better.
The show is just a more girl's person. We're talking about different lanes here.
Yeah. I mean, we're talking about, we all understand that you have a bad pop culture sensibilities. And so for you to have this,
is only justifying everybody who feels a other way around.
Do you like, just kind of like, you know, shallow drama TV, or do you like a beautiful
story about what it means to be a part of a special team?
I would say that Friday Night's the TV show is arguably one of the best, if not the best,
depictions of a healthy marriage than we've ever seen.
Oh, yes.
I'm not watching it for the healthy marriage depiction.
Because you want, do you want drama?
You talked on this show recently about the beauty of being part of a team.
Friday Night Lights the movie epitomom.
that to a T.
That's what's so special about it.
And the Boobie Miles story.
It's a great acting.
Is it your favorite football movie?
Yeah, I think so.
Really?
If it's like in my top five movies when I was a kid,
like when I was even like in college,
I would have told you it was in my top five movies.
It's a great movie.
It's a great movie.
You like a bit of Remember the Titans?
I like Remember the Titans.
I think, yeah, it's hard to say anything's better than Remember the Titans.
But I think I like Friday Night Lights better as a film.
where are you on
the replacements
I think you should
talk about this more
after you close
all right then I'll do it for Taco Tuesday
and now join us
for the conclusion of this football movie's discussion
in overtime
Strongside
court jester
Remember the Titans
That was one of my first fantasy football team names
Left Side strong side
Really?
Yeah
I feel like I could have
guess that. That's on brand for you.
A good one.
Yeah.
Alice.
What's the movie from...
Are you blind?
Can't you just see we're brothers?
That's your humor too.
That's great.
Great line.
What's the one I should know the name?
Is it the replacements?
Replacements is the scabs.
Keanu Reeves.
No, the one where they're in jail.
The jail team.
That's...
With Adam Sandlin.
Yeah. Longest yard.
Longest yard's pretty good.
I like that one.
which is the original.
Yeah.
You got...
Any given Sunday's good.
Any given Sunday.
I like any given Sunday.
You got necessary roughness.
I haven't seen necessary roughness.
How about the program?
I don't think I've seen the program.
It's at the table.
You know what movie?
I will.
And maybe it's controversial to say.
I don't like the blind side.
I was never a fan of the blind side.
Is that controversial?
DJ.
Just when...
I thought you couldn't have a worse pop culture take.
You do something like this.
What?
And totally redeem yourself.
I'm not saying there's no way you like to block side.
I was going to say there's no one of the most offensive movies I've ever seen.
Yeah.
Absolutely garbage.
I'm not trying to alienate anybody.
No offense to Sandra Bullock, but she should never.
be allowed to work again after that movie.
Ben Zimran's Sandra Brown.
Oh my God.
That movie is so bad.
And it's so offensive.
Yeah, it's tough.
Again, if you enjoyed the movie,
I'm not trying to alienate you.
No, I'll yuck your yum on this one.
Okay.
Lord knows this young athletic black man
would have been nothing without the savior.
Yeah, and there's been like coverage of,
It's also just a bad movie beyond the other times.
Rare Miss is Sandra Bullock.
Shout out to Sandra Bullock.
Yeah, sure.
I feel like her acting career is pretty good.
Quality actress, yeah.
Yeah.
But that movie.
That movie.
She won an Oscar for that.
Did she really?
Yeah.
I feel like, I mean, absolutely terrible.
Waterboy.
Good movie.
Classic.
Yeah.
Now there's cinema.
That is a film.
Oh, man.
I would probably go.
It's true. This point has been made before, but they're, uh, football movies probably, uh, given the popularity of the sport, like movies have under indexed on good football movies. You would expect, like probably better baseball movies than football movies.
Yeah.
Uh, even though football is a much more popular sport.
Yeah, it's, it's hard to depict football on screen. Um, there's that clip of that Disney kid, like, throw the football.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I feel like that's a big part of it.
Yeah.
Very good.
Yeah, I feel like it's hard to make a good football movie.
And that's why Friday Night Lights, such a great movie.
Such a artistic feat of filmmaking.
I think Rembrandt Titans is probably my favorite.
I respect that.
It's probably my second favorite.
And there was a time in my life where it probably was my favorite.
Denzel.
What an actor.
Does Denzel have a miss?
I'm sure he does.
He's probably got like some problematic movies.
I'm sure along the way.
I don't know it though.
Shout out Danzo.
He's in Gladiator 2, which is not a good movie.
But he's so fun.
He's like, I mean he's hamming it up so much,
but he's so fun to watch in that movie.
I would say, I actually enjoyed watching him.
Yeah, his performance was fun.
Yeah, his performance was fun.
Yeah, I enjoyed that.
Hmm.
We got some big movies.
coming up later this year.
Dune 3 and the Odyssey coming out in like the same week.
Why is the Odyssey important to you?
I know it's the biggest movie of the year, but I know that you're into Dune.
Just look at the trailer.
You didn't know me in my like, you didn't know me in like my Game of Thrones.
I'm going to say the dayness thing that you guys, you don't like to watch the trailer.
No, thanks.
It's fine.
I respect that.
You didn't know me in my Game of Thrones heyday.
Like that type of stuff, that's my type of stuff right there.
How do you know what the movie's about if you don't want, like why do you want to go see the movie then?
You read the book?
I don't want to know, I don't want to be spoiled.
I want to watch the movie.
But like what makes you then want to go to the movie theater and see a movie?
How do you know anything about it?
If you know, uh, the actors, the directors,
or you mean, you could know a little bit of the long line of the movie.
Give me like one thing or,
or I just want to go to a movie that I know nothing about and be surprised.
Interesting.
So for,
it's a more pure artistic experience, I feel.
I'm but to say it is a little respectfully pretentious to be like,
of course it is.
I'm going to just.
pay attention to who the director is
and go see it. Well, no, but I mean, that's not
really how I go about it. But if, or
it's word of mouth. Yeah, I can
appreciate, like, appreciating the art.
The Toy Story movie. Taylor Swift has a
song in a Toy Story movie. I'm going to see it.
Don't care what the plot is.
Great. I'm sure it'll make me cry.
The third one was kind of scary.
Remember seeing that in theaters?
That's the one where they're like in the incinerator.
Yeah, at the end. Yeah. I thought that was like
a little intense for his movie.
But those movies are
for adults.
Toy Story is like tied to really a central part of my life that makes me realize that,
you know, I'm smart in some ways, but maybe not in others.
Which is like, I watch that movie, apparently, allegedly, like hundreds of times when
I was a kid.
Like every day, VHS reaching up Toy Story in the, in the, the, what do you call the thing?
The VHS machine.
The VCR?
The VCR.
Thank you.
In the VCR every day,
watch Toy Story.
Every day,
I could not tell you a single thing
about the Toy Story plot.
Like,
I know the movie is about,
like,
toys that can talk,
and, like,
they have to be inanimate
when the,
when the kid comes back.
I can, like,
see the,
the, like,
villain kids face in my,
in my mind.
Sid.
Sid, yeah,
like,
like, that kid.
That was a good impersonation,
right?
Sure.
But I can't tell you
the plot of the movie.
Like,
how,
How is that possible
that I've seen it hundreds of times
and don't remember it?
I don't know.
Maybe you were zoning out.
Maybe you were just putting it on to
process everything that happened that day.
Maybe.
But I should remember the movie.
But I watch, you know, I'm excited.
It's one of the things I actually am very excited about.
Like, I'll watch Toy Story with my kid.
And then I remember the movie.
There you go.
Yeah.
All right.
That'll do it for this episode of the P.H.I. Eagles podcast.
Back tomorrow, another day of mini-camp,
the last Eagles practice of the spring
before we say goodbye to them until late July.
We are live at 4 o'clock again tomorrow
to accommodate the practice.
We'll have notes.
We'll have thoughts on what we hear from the players.
We'll hear from Nick Siriani again as well.
Much more to come.
Thank you, E.J.
Thank you, Lindsay.
We'll talk to you tomorrow.
And as always, we love you.
