Hello everybody and welcome to the PHAI Eagles podcast live in the Gillette Stadium
overlooking the practice field where the Eagles concluded their second day of joint practices against the Patriots.
We are live from the Xfinity Mobile Studio presented by Ashley.
That's E.J. Smith.
I'm Bo Wolfe.
We got a lot to tell you about everything we saw today.
Now, they'll have their preseason game on Saturday night, but the ones aren't going to play in that game.
The ones played a lot today.
I think we learned a few interesting.
things we will tell you all about it. Let's start with our big
takeaways with Wawa, what's
brewing EJ Smith. I'm going to let you go first.
You watched the offense today for the most part. I watched the defense.
What was your big takeaway?
Yeah, my big takeaway today is that
A, first and foremost, it kind of felt like I might have been the Grim Reaper
out there at practice because yesterday I watched the defense
and I came on the show and I said
the defense had its struggles. The secondary in particular
struggled. And then you told me about some encouraging signs
from the offense. The run game looked really good.
And we flipped today.
I watched the offense, and I was going, man, I'm going to have to come on the show and be negative again.
You know, like usually you're the optimistic guy.
I feel like I play it pretty straight down the middle.
But, you know, I do use the word encouraging a lot.
Shout out to Sean Sajat out there.
Mr. Encouraging out there.
Who invented the word encouraging?
I mean, I'm giving him credit.
He's a big user of the word encouraging.
He didn't coin it.
But, you know, we don't need to get caught up in this.
I didn't invent the English language.
So the offense had a sluggish start, I would say.
There was not the same level of daylight in the run game that, you know, everyone that you described on the show and that everyone had talked about.
And even Jordan Milata said afterward that the run game was not as effective today.
And the past game was up and down, probably similar to the way it was yesterday.
But my big takeaway today, the thing that I'm going to be thinking about on my train ride back home, the thing I think that the Eagles players will be watching on their flight home is the final drive.
The final moment in practice.
I think that group finished the day really strongly.
I think that, you know, the plays that mattered the most to me, you know, the scrimmage at the end of practice.
Although everybody's watching it, it's a situational period, a red zone period.
Right, they move from two fields to the last portion of practice.
In front of a bunch of fans.
Everybody is watching one field.
There's, you know, there's no dual action going on, all eyes on you.
And we'll tell you what happened when the Patriots got the ball first, but the Eagles get the ball.
This is a move the ball, Jill, you're down eight, 20 or like 50 seconds left.
You're at the 25-yard line.
to score a touchdown and what did they do?
Yeah, it was the most efficient they looked all day.
Jalen Hertz found Dallas got her for the first completion.
Something we hear about a lot, like that first completion to get things moving.
He found Don Tavian Wix on a speedout, and then he hit Hollywood Brown.
What?
It was just a nice route.
Yeah, Wix was.
Oh, yeah, we'll talk about Wix.
This has been like a filthy 48 hours for T.
Yeah, we'll watch a clip of him later on that was also filthy is the word you'd use.
And then he found Hollywood Brown in the back of the end zone.
Really good timing, really good pass, like placement.
on that ball from Jalen Hertz.
He's done a really nice job targeting the middle back of the end zone.
Obviously, the Eagles put out that clip of him, you know, targeting Dallas got it in that area of the field as well, you know, with the helmet cam.
But, yeah, I thought, again, this was the most efficient that they looked, at least today.
I didn't watch them yesterday.
And I think that is something that you can hang on to what the offense can look like in a situation like that when everything's firing on all cylinders there.
Okay.
And from a what's brewing on the other side of the ball perspective, this was.
I think a bounce back as practice went on.
So the first half of practice, it was pretty consistent that when the Patriots starting
offense was going up against the Eagles starting defense, when Drake Main was throwing
the ball, he could throw it at will.
Yep.
And A.J. Brown was getting open.
And Romeo Dobbs was getting open.
DeMario Douglas was getting open.
And it was Quignan.
It was Rick Wullen.
It was pretty easy for the Patriots passing offense.
But every time they tried to run the ball, it was like disaster.
You know, it would be like Morrow O'GMO and Jordan Davis are meeting them five guards in the backfield, completely unblocked.
Jalick's Hunt is ripping the ball away from Raymondre Stevenson in the backfield.
Like it was like really like bully ball stuff every time they were trying to run the ball.
But then as practice went on, the defense bounced back a little bit.
Rieck Wullen had a pick six of Drake May with in coverage on A.J. Brown.
And then celebrate some snow angels.
And then the final drive, the opposite of when the Eagles goes scored.
touchdown first play
Drake May tries to throw a slant
to A.J. Brown. Rick Woolen is in tight coverage.
It looked like Woolen got a little
bit on the ball to the point where
AJ had to then reach back and try to sort of
scoop the ball up. Try to double catch it. Yeah.
And then it goes up into the air. And Jalick's Hunt
makes an insane
diving one-handed, like clean
catch, scoops it so it doesn't hit the ground
for an interception that ends the drive.
An unbelievable play by Jalick Hunt.
And I will tell you that, like, the reaction from the Patriots reporters here,
the past two days is like, Jelixon looks like the best player on the field.
Like, that guy looks like a superstar.
Yeah.
Which, you know, some of us have been saying for a long time.
The stock is paying off.
Thank you very much.
Yeah, you held your stock.
I sold my requal in stock before, well, long before yesterday.
But I thought this was a really resurgent day from him.
You know, I wasn't watching the defense throughout the practice,
but the moments I saw from him, it looked better.
You know, I think that you kind of saw the requal and experience here in Foxborough
where, you know, there are some inconsistencies, but, yeah, he made a really nice,
a couple really nice plays.
I didn't catch if he had, like, really gotten his hand on that ball that A.J. Brown put up
in the air, but, I mean, it was like.
At the very least, it was very tight coverage.
Yeah, absolutely.
Quick injury and updates.
I think we can close the book on What's Brewing presented by Wawa.
Big news for the Eagles today, Mackay Lemon, does.
progress to being on actual limited participant.
He took part in the individual warm-ups,
was catching passes, was in the warm-up lines and stuff.
And I will tell you that this is maybe just projecting.
But I feel like when we've seen Mackay Lemon
over the past couple weeks,
he looks a little sulky.
Yeah, I think that's fair.
Like he comes out to practice a little bit late.
He's just, he's got a very serious look on his face.
It's a little sullen.
And that's a little bit of.
projection. Maybe that's just what he's like.
But then after at the end of practice today,
you know,
Jalen is doing these,
this, just this, it looks like he's working with this
private quarterbacks coach. I think that's who that
was. And he's just sort of flicking the wrist
and, you know, AJ Brown comes by and all that stuff.
But for the most part, it's like AJ, or
Jalen is throwing to Devante and
Mackay Lemon and Darius Cooper and
Taywicks. It's those, it's those five guys.
And McCoy Lemon is smiling
and laughing and he's having a good time.
And I think, you know,
it's understandable. He's a young guy
who wants to get out there and prove that he has something to add to this football team.
It seems like he's just, he's happier because he's getting ready to get back on the football field.
Yeah, I think he kind of, it's probably the thing where what we know about him, very little,
but what we know about him is that he seems very, very passionate about football.
You know, his play style is the type of player that you would expect kind of eat, sleeps and breeze ball.
And I think we have seen, like I feel like the Eagles have been trying to give him as much as he can handle.
You know, yesterday, I think is a good example.
Like he was limited. He was listed as limited.
He got to wear his pads and kind of be out there,
but he wasn't really ready or cleared to do a whole lot.
And I think, you know, probably managing that,
especially since he missed so much of the spring with the same injury,
I think it is important for them to kind of give him what they can as quickly as they can.
I will take it through the full injury report,
and then I want you to read those super chance that you have over there.
Did not practice today.
Jacori and Bennett, Grand Calcutera.
Jalen Carter was excused for personal reasons.
I don't have anything more on that.
I thought it was notable that he was in a fight yesterday.
Yeah.
But I don't know what's going on there.
Tariq Castro Fields with a heel, Jonathan Jones with a shoulder, Elijah Moore with a neck.
That's a new one.
Remember, he'd caught that long pass from Jailen Hertz yesterday, so you hope that he's okay.
John Adjuku with a peck, Damien Pierce with a hamstring, Johnny Wilson with a knee,
Byron Young with his shoulder, and then limited Kishon James Newby, which is an elevation for him,
McIall Lemon, Devante Smith, and Sean Wade.
Devante's still just doing individual drills, not a part of the business.
Yeah, he was suited up.
I was wondering if he was going to take some competitive rips.
I think when they return to the field on Monday.
Oh, yeah.
He'll be out there.
Yeah, I think I said before we came up here.
We thought maybe he would practice this week.
Yeah, I was the one who said, you know, not to take victory laps or anything.
That I think, I said, I bet you that they hold him back for the joint practices.
Just because you have less control over everything out here.
That's good point.
So $2 super chat from JK 8486, no comment.
Jakey, thank you very much.
Give it up for Lindsay.
Making it happen.
I think you made a mistake.
Because he came back with another $2 super chat.
Osprey question.
food for purchase, if not VIP, and that's a good segue.
Very good segue.

Back in the H.O.Y. Eagles podcast live in New England.
EJ, you had eyes on the offensive side of the ball today. Tell us about it. By the way,
if you're not watching on YouTube, you're going to get to see some practice footage in this
episode. Good stuff. Check it out. Go ahead. Yeah, so it was a really tough start,
tough sledding for the Eagles offense today. And in the context of Jalen through, I believe,
three picks yesterday? Yeah, two today. Okay. Both to Marcus Jones, Patriot Safety Marcus Jones.
Were they both in team drills? Both in team drills. Okay, because they were all in seven on seven
yesterday. Yeah, so the first one
was a pass that went off
of Hollywood Brown's hands. I am
90% sure it was Hollywood Brown.
Also, part of being the Grim Reaper
today, just some bad luck. Not making
excuses, just acknowledging
the important context here. Yeah.
They were like on the far side of the field
and the defense by comparison
was right up front and center for you guys today.
I was really jealous that you got... Some people make plays. Yeah, that's all
I can say. I mean, they wanted to impress
you. That's probably what it was. They knew you would be
talking about on the show. So yeah, the first
first one looked to me like it was off of Hollywood Brown's hands over the middle of the field
and Marcus Jones came up with it.
I don't know if I'm putting that.
No, I don't think the placement didn't stand out to me from my vantage point.
So that was the first one.
The second one was on a similar play, actually, to the speed out to Don Tavion Wicks during
the scrimmage.
It was a red zone team period, a few sessions after.
Don Tavion Wicks runs that out route.
And I don't know if it, I'm not, I'm actually going to put this on.
at the feet of Jalen because I think we have seen this through the summer that sometimes his
ball placement has been a little behind the receiver and in a place where the defensive back can
make the play.
I thought that that was an example of that.
So, you know, it was a good play for Marcus Jones because he came up with the interception
like along the sideline in the front corner of the end zone.
And yeah, those were like the low moments from the past game and there weren't there wasn't
the Elijah Moore bombed downfield or, you know, there weren't like, you know, there was no
dig route to Darius Cooper.
There weren't like chunk gains from the passing offense to kind of offset those.
So overall, I thought it was a pretty stop-start day for the offense.
There were two touchdown passes, but I want to make it clear.
Like this is red zone, so it's like 12-yard completion.
He got, he hit Dallas Goddard.
Let's see here.
It was a sticking nod around.
It was a really nice route, actually, from Dallas Goddard.
Faked outside, went up the seam.
And again, Jalen Hertz found him there.
And then he did get Don Tavian Wicks.
I don't know what the precise route was, but it was over the middle of the first.
field in the end zone. So, you know, he had the two touchdown passes in the red zone period,
but overall it just wasn't, it was like a lot of negative plays from the Eagles starting offense.
So what is your level of concern in the Jalen Hertz uptick and interceptions?
It's an interesting question. I am less concerned about like Jalen Hertz throwing interceptions
in practice. I'm more curious how this is something we talked about last week,
how it intersects with
Nick Siriani's philosophy and his approach
with the offense. I wonder
I almost wonder what Nick's
reaction to the fact
that this is easily the most interceptions we've seen
from Jalen in the summer.
I don't think it's a big deal, but I think it
could change how the offense looks
if it persists into the season.
I also, I don't know that it's just
a Nick thing that I'm worried about because
Jalen also doesn't like
throwing interceptions. Yeah. You know what I mean?
Purposefully.
And so when it's one like the Hollywood one,
where he throws over the middle of the field
and it's a fine pass,
but it goes off his hands and then it's intercepted,
as opposed to if the same thing happens on the sideline
and it's just an incompletion,
does that make him a little bit more gun-shy
about throwing a tight windows over the middle of the field?
I think that's a little bit of a concern.
That's a good point.
Jalen, everything that we heard last year
was that Jalen is in lockstep with Nick
and this vision for, you know,
this is like a formula to win.
You know, it's the bottom line is winning
and some of it is risk aversion.
I think the fact that he has thrown interceptions this summer shows that he's open to the system and is embracing the scheme.
But I think to that end, like results might matter more than we are expecting them to or more than we think they should.
You know, if Nick and Jalen are feeling like the middle field targets, the frequency with which they are, you know, targeting that part of the field.
And let's like make no bones about it.
This offense is built to exploit that part of the field, you know, with all the play action, with all of, you know, the pre-snap, you know,
misdirection, you are trying to open up windows over the middle of the field more often than not.
He's going to have to make those throws.
And it will be interesting to see if he does struggle with turnovers, how they respond to that.
I think one thing that we have seen a lot this summer, which you could read either way,
is we've talked about it.
He's doing a lot of that rolling to his right and then throwing back over the middle of the field,
which is a very dangerous throw.
But I am encouraged by that.
because to me that is him being more risk-tolerant.
Yeah.
And, I mean, he's made some nice plays on those throws.
There was a touchdown today on them.
And I would not be concerned if those led to interceptions.
I think that, like, that's part of the deal.
The out route to Tay Wicks that you're describing.
That's like ball placement.
That's a read.
That's one that you shouldn't see.
It's like the one from last week we talked about
where he sort of flat-footed threw it to the right,
and it was a completion, but it was like, that's a dangerous throw.
Those are the ones that I would like to get out of here.
The ones that are part of being aggressive, in aggressive parts of the field,
especially now, it's totally fine, I think.
Yeah, I think this is a good exercise of, like, separating them
and explaining that, like, the number isn't as important as the context around it.
Because to me, like the Hollywood Brown interception,
that is exactly the type of one where you have to, you have to, like,
if you're Sean Mannion or Parks Frazier, you tell Jalen,
we have to live with those.
You know, if you're not comfortable
or you're second-guessing
hitting Hollywood Brown
on a shallow crosser in this offense,
like we're going to have issues.
We're going to have problems.
We got somebody else to come through.
This is going to be tough.
I don't know how we're going to make this happen, Lindsay.
This guy's trying to get through it over here.
We're going to have to figure that out
and just keep talking for a minute.
Yeah.
Yeah, those are tough.
Yeah, I think he's going to have to live
with some of those.
some of the Hollywood Brown deflected pass into a safety's hands.
Like, yeah, you don't want those.
But again, as a quarterback, you have to accept that that's part of this offense at this point.
You know, you're going to have those.
So, yeah, the ones where it's ball placement, you hope that he cleans those up by the time that they get to the regular season.
Because, again, if they have a game early in the season where it's three turnovers or four turnovers,
like, let's say that Chargers game, you know, where Jalen threw a couple of interceptions.
But also that really encouraging tight window throw, like maybe not to that experience.
but maybe 70% of that game.
If they had that early in the season,
I think they're going to have to plow through it.
And I'm just not totally convinced that they're going to.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I think overall it's been fine.
I think Jalen would tell you that, you know,
even yesterday when he said, you know,
I didn't have a very good seven on seven.
He doesn't usually put it on himself quite like that.
Yeah.
I thought that was a little bit notable.
So, you know, I am not really worried about Jailen Hurts.
Yeah.
And again, I think the most important thing
today was that they had an efficient close to this practice. The most competitive period is when
they looked their best. I mean, we talked about yesterday, like, they're getting a lot of unscouted
looks. They're getting a lot of, like, time on task learning the framework of this offense.
I wouldn't, I think if you came up here expecting the Eagles offense to, like, look gangbusters
out here and, like, you know, have, like, you know, two dominant practices. Like, I don't know
what to tell you. I think the fact the run game looked good in the first practice is encouraging.
We could talk about some of the reasons it didn't look good today.
some of the things we heard after practice
but tell me.
Yeah, we heard from Jordan Milata.
You want to do it?
Jordan.
Mylata.
And he said that the run game
was much more effective yesterday
and I asked them what the difference was
and he said today that they had the boxing gloves on.
And that's something that really stood out to me
during practice.
There were three separate fights
that I had in my tally.
Like real ones?
No, none of these were like Fred Johnson-Morrow
with Jomo fights.
They were like big,
scrums in the middle of the field.
We had one little bit of pushing
and shoving in the other field, but go ahead.
Yeah. So the first one actually
was kind of
foreshadowed by something I wanted to
highlight on here. So you remember
how I told you all that Sequin
is like a handful at practice. He talks a lot of junk.
You know, he is an intense
player. He's constantly telling people, no, you wouldn't
have gotten me. And, you know, I
imagine that if you're an Eagles player, you
can kind of say like, okay, well, he's Sequin.
You can't really rethink.
retaliate. If you're a Patriots player, you don't care who he is. So, you know, you might take issue.
That's exactly what happened. Seekwan got taken to the ground by, I have it in my notes, number
35. Well, 35, of course, is KJ. Britt. Patriots linebacker, KJ. Britt, threw him to the ground at the end of
the play, and Jordan Milata got in KJ. Britt's face, and they were going back and forth. And I think it
was kind of good nature. Whenever Mila gets into fights, it seems like he kind of just enjoys, like,
the riff-raff of it all. But a few plays later,
It was, somebody caught Sequin in the face mask.
I didn't get who it was.
They caught him in the face mask, and Lane Johnson went right over and confronted everybody in the area.
And that turned into a big scrub.
So that was the first one.
The second one was Don Tavian Wicks.
And let's see, I have my notes.
No, I have the name of my notes.
What?
You were ready for the number?
Yeah, I'm going to make use of this.
Give me a second.
Namdi Obiasor.
Here we go.
I am going to look right here.
I have wicks in my notes a lot today.
Yeah, it was Marcus Jones again.
Yeah, Marcus Jones.
He was all in my notebook today.
So, yeah, Dantavian Wix and Marcus Jones
at the center of the second one.
The third fight happened out of nowhere.
I did not see who it was,
and it was broken up as quickly as it formed.
It was a big group, and they all dispersed.
So, yeah, we heard after practice from Jordan Milata.
He basically said the reason the run game wasn't as good
is because they didn't get that momentum,
you know, like that flow from,
four-yard run, six-yard run, eight-yard run, two-yard run,
12-yard run, right?
Like, he said that basically they put the boxing gloves on,
and then the focus kind of shifts to being more about, like,
all right, I'm going to get that guy back on the next play,
and the defense is all of a sudden more intense.
So I think that that contributed to it.
I also think that there is a thing at play in joint practices
when it's a two-day thing, as long as the teams are not really bad,
where if one group in particular has a bad first day,
and you know that they're getting picked on in team meetings.
Like the Patriots run defense yesterday.
When they were in team meetings, they're getting called out.
Yeah, it's like their manhood is getting called out.
Yeah, exactly.
They're going to come back the next day and have a pretty intense focus about it.
I think the same thing happens to the Eagle Secondary today.
I feel like that happened too.
I think that's a natural push and pull.
Yeah, it's funny me saying this is silly.
I hope people will enjoy this.
I got a college football 27 Dynasty cooking up at home right now.
Yeah, what team are you?
I'm Texas State.
Every year, Eagles fans out there.
Somebody in the chat, let me know what Eagles connection there is to Texas State.
I don't think you're allowed to answer.
You probably know it.
I think I do know.
All right.
So I told Julia, I was like, you know, we really beat up on this team last year.
We just ran all over.
It was Boise State.
And I was like, they're going to, you know, their coaches are going to be telling them all week.
This is about your manhood this week.
I was like, we really got to bring it this week.
You know, we really got to bring it.
against Boise State. So when you said that, I thought of it.
Well, you've got to be careful on the sidelines, because if they're that angry, like,
you're the husband of a pregnant wife.
They can't be getting messed with women, children, men with pregnant wives.
You know, that's the order. That's the order of operations.
Last thing on the chippiness of today's practice, we heard from Sequin after practice as well.
We have a clip of it, him explaining why he hates joint practices because, you know, sometimes they get heated.
It's good to go against someone new.
I think we're definitely at that part of camp where we needed to go against a new face.
But I do think if you do it the right way, there's a lot of good out of it.
Going against different looks, going against different people.
It's hard when you've got to run the same play over and over against J.C. and J.D.
They're pretty good players.
And they get a hint on what you're doing.
It's even harder to block.
But, yeah, when you do it the right way, it's good.
But honestly, I'm not really fan of joint progress.
It's just, you know, it's just more times than not,
and nothing good comes out of it.
Like, you get the, when you have the work, it's good,
but then you get to push and to shove in,
and someone say this about you,
and I'm like, oh, no, but I'm not that.
You're at this.
It's just, like, it's immature when we get to that level.
I got to do a better job, too,
because I'm a little, you know,
trope makers sometimes, but I was good, I was good as well.
I don't think he was good today.
Well, described.
I was trying to catch if that was me getting
mugged in a face off.
It sounds like Bob to me.
Yeah, I don't think it was me.
I don't know.
I mean, everybody gets mugged in a face off eventually.
What are the super chats we got here?
Well, first off, shout out to Ryan Johnson.
He got the connection, Texas State and the Eagles.
G.J. Kenny.
G.J. Kinney.
This is from Alex S.
He says, how close are Smitty and Lemon to playing?
If I had to guess, if the Eagles played a game,
like a real game on Saturday,
I think Devante Smith would be available.
It seems like they are being precautionary with him.
But honestly, he's out here.
He looks ready to make a return.
I think that Devante will practice on Monday full.
I think Lemon will be a few days behind.
Yeah, I think Mackay is the one.
I think he might still be a little bit further away.
Like, I think he might not play a game if it were, like, next Monday.
I think the Monday after he probably is going to be fully back.
I think they...
Barring and setbacks, because that's a real thing for him.
And I think they really have been giving him as much as he can do probably to just keep him, keep a minute.
McCuy Lemon and Eli Stowers, Eli Stowers will talk about later, the last two players on the field for the Eagles today.
They're both on the Jugs Machine together.
Would you like to guess the first two players on the field today, not including specialists and injured guys?
I'm going to guess Jalen Hertz.
The two best players on the team, yes, Jalen Hertz and...
Uh-oh.
I mean, the two best players on the team could be a couple of people.
The two most important players on the team.
Is it Elaine Johnson?
No, it's Jalen Hertz and Willie Lampkin.
Oh, okay.
If you were actually talking about the two best players, two most important, it's probably, well, it's probably Lane Johnson and I might say, I might say Quignon or Jalen Carter.
Depends on like the best or like the best, you know.
Willie.
Willie Lampkin, yeah.
I made a funny joke about Willie Lampkin today.
Jordan Milada was complaining about the mic being too short, and he's like, oh, who is here?
And, like, it was Cooper to Jean.
And I go, oh, Willie Lampkin was there.
You were describing this as if you brought the house down.
Milata was the one making the joke.
And he said, who was it, Bob?
He's already talking about somebody short.
And then you're going, oh, no, it was Willie.
And, like, no, I was the only one who heard it.
You were very self-satisfied.
This was not.
I thought it was funny.
Like, you're not telling us about a home run that you hit.
I think I was.
You know, not every home run needs, not everybody.
sees every home run. If you hit a home run at an empty
ballpark, you still hit a home run.
That was no home run, my friend.
All right. Quick break, back on the other side.
We're going to bring you some footage of practice. We've got
one-on-ones to go through. I'll give you a little bit more
detail on the Eagles defense today,
including a down-the-roster
player.
Winty's just on the button.
Who's not even on the depth chart right now,
who I think has been kind of fun.
Elkins Chevrolet run by three brothers, real brothers, local guys.
Not from here in New England, no, no, down in Philly.
And right now these guys are going all in.
Check out their inventory of Chevy trucks and SUVs, the ones people actually want,
priced to move.
Fast, Silverado, Equinox, Trax, Trailblazer, if it's on your list, they have it.
These puppies are going fast.
So if you have been waiting, stop waiting because once they're gone, they're gone.
Whether it's getting to a game, getting to work, or getting out of town,
you will be driving off in the right ride at a price that makes it an easy yes.
And the difference at Elkins, no runaround, no back and forth, no games,
just real brothers making real deals every single day.
Elkins Chevrolet, real brothers, real deals, and a whole lot, a honking good service.

speaking of unbelievably creamy we are back on the
PHA yagles podcast bow and EJ
a quick super chat from
jay dorrance i believe
did Bo get to catch up with
Christian Ellis the best linebacker in the NFL
did not but we talked at the Super Bowl
we had a good little catch up at the Super Bowl
no big deal we brought that to you back then
he knows I'm here I know he's here
it's a you know he's not it's a little bit of a
a little bit of it, Jalen Hertz.
You know, I didn't get to you.
Well, we should update the people.
Well, we should up to the people because they did get to get together.
So maybe I'll visit Christian tonight,
but here's what the scene was with Jalen and AJ
finally catching up with Willie Lampkin in the foreground
and Jordan Milata narrating.
That's fine. He didn't keep this out. That's okay.
And Milata was all over the fact that this was the shot
that everybody needed to get.
Oh, was he really?
where.
Very media savvy that Jordan my honor.
Very media savvy.
Which is why he loves a P.H.I. Eagles podcast.
Jordan and AJ have their little, hello, 32nd conversation.
Jalen Hansom mocks him and off they go.
I don't know if we should be saying that one of them handsome mugged the other.
I think they're both good-looking guys.
I mean, it's very clear.
It's great camera work by you.
I'm going to tip my cap to you on the camera work here.
Yeah, you know, but I also are going to tip.
the cap to myself because I was the one who said I figured they'll shake hands at some point.
Yeah, but you thought it was going to be a performative thing in front of everybody at the
beginning.
I mean, it could have been a performative thing in front of everybody at the end.
This was an end.
This was, I don't think you get to tech.
Yeah, I don't think that, like, you know, the people who are going to go, like, oh, this has all
been out of proportion.
But he was also, you know, he was also, I saw him talking to Devante and Mackay Lemon in the
middle of practice at one point.
It kind of felt like Devante is like.
Hey, AJ, like my little brother wants to meet you.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It was kind of nice, yeah, in a nice way.
He wasn't big bro in Mackay Lemon or anything like that.
Yeah, that's fine.
All right, let's show you a few clips of Red Zone one-on-ones.
And this is the part of practice where Patriots receivers really were kind of cooking the Eagles secondary.
Now, we're not over there in time to get A.J. Brown going up against Quinyon,
but he did win that first matchup.
And then they got to two-on-toes in the Red Zone, and AJ scored two more touchdowns on Quineonionionion.
Quinyan gave up a few catches over the past 48 days or 48 hours not just to AJ I don't think that Eagles fans should spend five seconds being worried about Queenion Mitchell couldn't agree more I mean the guy is a very good player he's entitled to have a couple of moments in practice against a really good receiver
yeah Mac Holland scored a touchdown on him today but it was like a play action where he's he's got to run all the way across the field and the end zone like you know that happens it's fine it's not a big deal first one Cooper dejean versus to Mario Douglas which is a rematch of a few
from yesterday where to Mario Douglas got the better of him.
This is a real route over the middle of the field, and he does beat Cooper to Jean.
I didn't think it was, you know, Cooper's best two days of practice.
Again, I would not worry about that at all.
Then we go to Romeo Dobbs against Ambry Thomas, who has been a fun player over the course of camp.
I'm going to competitive corner, but Romeo Dobbs gets the best of him here.
A little shake to the inside, gets to the corner.
Nicely done.
Why don't we go next
Lindsay to
Kashan booty
against Quinion Mitchell
and that's good coverage
from Quinion although
does get a little jersey tug in here
but it's a PBU
he backs off from press
at the line and
forces the incompletion
we'll go to one more negative
rep which is
Kyle Williams against Keeley Ringo
and Keeley had a really tough day
not just in one-on-one
also in team drills, and it's just too bad.
You know, Vic said the thing yesterday,
but he thinks Keely might be ready to make a little jump here.
Yeah.
It just didn't happen the last two days.
I'll tell you that much.
And then one good rep for the Eagles defense.
This is Mack McWilliams against Efton Chisholm,
and he runs that route for him.
I will tell you, Mac McWilliams, the last two days,
no longer, at least here,
splitting inside outside.
He has been focused only on the nickel.
Yep.
Yeah, I noticed that.
I made note of that yesterday.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So especially with some other corners down the depth chart injured, it's like they're really,
they're really taking a narrow look at Mac inside.
After I think we thought that when he was outside in the preseason game was not his best work.
Yeah, yeah, I think it's fair to say that.
All right, you want to go through some receiver DB one-on-ones?
On the other side of the ball.
On the other side here.
Yeah, yeah.
I see, Eagles receiver versus DB one-on-ones.
So the first one that we have to watch, we should watch it,
few times, Lindsay, because it is just, like, beautiful.
Dantavian Wicks, like I said, he just had himself a great 48 hours.
His, yeah, his release game is like, you know, because I watch this live and I'm like, man,
he really sent Carlton Davis into the Shadow Realm, as we said yesterday.
And watching it back, if you watch it like a couple times, his fake inside, like right there,
it's just, it's nasty.
It is just, yeah, I mean, the guy didn't stand a chance.
So.
And Carlton Davis is a starting corner.
Yeah, no, this was a high, high-level rep from Dantavian Wix.
You kind of see, you know, why the film guys like him on a rep like that.
The next one we have here is Darius Cooper, just really strong at the catch point.
You know, this is against, I think his name was Kindle Vildor.
Kindle Vildol.
He had the interception in practice yesterday.
Yep.
But, yeah, he, Kendall Vindle is what you're calling him.
That's what I call them in the pre-draft process.
Not a ton of separation from Darius Cooper on this, but just really, really strong hands at the catch point stood out.
So yeah, those are the two I got footage of that I thought would be good to share in the show.
Really, that Don Tavian Wicks one to me.
Like, that was one of the highlights of practice.
The other thing that I wanted to talk about is Eli Stowers one-on-one reps.
Okay.
You know, why don't I do this?
Because we have been hard on Eli Stowers, and I want to make sure, like, I try to balance it out when I can.
So I wanted to start, like, for my practice observations that I'm going to have on the site later,
I decided to start with the good.
And the good is that,
Eli Sauer's like got a lot of reps working on blocking,
both before and after practice.
Like I said, he was the last one on the field
with Mackay Lemon at the end of the day.
He caught a touchdown pass,
working the flat with the twos today.
It was kind of a broken down play,
but still, a touchdown catch nonetheless.
You know, and again, I think like you're seeing
that he's putting an effort.
You know, it's not like he's, you know,
just having a rough day of practice
and doesn't seem to care about it.
With that said,
this is courtesy of our friend BLG
he had a really tough rep against Mike Brown
the Patriot safety
I mean basically just Brown runs the route for him
like there's just no separation
I think this is like what we are getting at
and I wanted the clip because
like we can keep saying it
but I just like want people to see like what we are actually describing
which is that you know this is a player that you are
hoping can win those matchups against safeties
and against linebackers and we just haven't really seen it
He ran a sail route against Kevin Byard, and that one wasn't, I mean, he didn't get a ton of separation.
He maybe had to step on him, and the Tanner McKee kind of sailed the, no pun intended, sailed the ball over his head.
Maybe a catch that if you are expecting him to be like a fully formed, physical freak tight end he can make.
But yeah, he had that one.
And then he had a third rep against here.
I've got it right here.
Peter Manuma, an undrafted safety.
and that one was during the two-on-toos,
and he got a little bit of separation on that one,
ball going right through his hands.
Like, you know, a little late getting up to go get it,
and it goes right through his hands,
and that was from Jalen Hurts.
So just a rough one-on-one period for Eli Stowers,
and, you know, just a quiet overall two days.
I think the two things to keep in mind about Eli Stowers is,
so, you know, he's not doing that right now.
He's not ready to do that right now.
Yeah.
He's not going to be a major part of the offense
in the first half of this season.
that's pretty clear, I think.
That doesn't mean that he can't develop.
That doesn't mean he won't get there eventually.
That's the first thing.
The second thing is, it is true that, like, you know,
we got to be right there when they're warming up today,
and you stand right next to the tight ends
as the tight ends are warming up.
And he's like the smallest guy.
This is not a physical freak
who you're trying to figure out, you know,
how to get him to be a little bit more precise,
but he's going to, you know that he's going to,
Mog defenders in one-on-one situations because he's a freak athlete.
That's not what he is.
He's a slightly smaller player at the tight-end position.
He's a tweeter.
He has to figure out how to block.
There is a lot still to come for Eli Stowers before he's a factor.
That doesn't mean that he's not ever going to be a good player.
That doesn't mean that at all.
Yeah, I just means that right now he's not ready to contribute.
Yeah, I think, A, like, he's a tweener.
He is someone who worked out as a receiver in the pre-draft process,
and I can see why some teams wondered if he'd be better off being a big slot receiver.
You know, and I think it kind of reminds me of, and this is anecdotal for me,
the Jalen Rager experience, but when Jalen Rager came in, I feel like he put on weight.
Like that was a big thing.
It's like he got more muscular, right?
And then it's like, well, are you as fast as you were in college if you have that extra weight?
And I feel like maybe Eli Stauer is going to have to go through that process.
is figuring out, like, what is the ideal weight for him to play at?
You know, maybe he bulked up for this season, and that's why he's not quite as, like,
you know, explosive out of breaks as we were expecting.
I think all of these things are in play.
You know, I see some people in the chat, like, calling him JJ Stowers-Whiteside.
Like, guys, like, it is really early.
It's really, really early.
Like, I think, like, there is sometimes a tendency, especially with draft picks who don't
flash right away to just be like, oh, this guy was a bus.
What were they thinking?
Like, the Eagles have a good draft record, and he's got a lot of time to figure it.
out. Even if he struggles as a rookie, like, you know, even if, like, the blocking that he had in the
preseason is, like, an indicator that you can't trust him as a blocker, like, Zach Hertz wasn't a good
blocker early in his career. And, like, you know, Zach Hertz's toughness was questioned early in his
career. So, you know, we give these updates because we're out there watching the practice.
We know people want to know what's going on with the rookies. But I would say, like, it's going to be
a long game for Eli Stowers. And there's still a lot of time for him to, you know, develop into the
player the Eagles envisioned him to be. All right. Good stuff. Good discussion. Let's take our last
here on the PHA Eagle's podcast.

Back on the PHLY Eagles podcast, Bo and EJ,
we should circle back on the last drill of practice
because the Patriots first team offense
got a bit of a do-over.
Yeah.
They got a little participation trophy drill.
And they did end up scoring a touchdown.
They hit DeMario Davis over the middle of the field.
Then an incomplete pass to Romeo Dobbs on Rake Woolen,
an incomplete pass to Mac Hollins with Quinyon in coverage,
and then they score a touchdown on a post to Romeo Dobbs.
There was some friendly fire from the Eagles defense.
I don't know if you saw exactly what happened,
but it looked like two guys ran into each other,
and Rieck Wullen was expecting safety help for Marcus Epps,
but he went with a tight end.
Anyway, it's a touchdown.
But then Rieke Wollin did stop A.J. Brown from scoring on the two-point conversion.
Yeah, I wrote down 87 touchdown versus Wollin.
weird play.
Yeah.
So I concur.
Let's empty out this bad boy.
Fred Johnson, who did not practice yesterday, practiced today, practiced today, was
the second team left tackle.
I teased earlier the down-the-depth chart player who was shown a little bit of a flash.
Oh, yeah?
And that is Isaiah Bolden.
Oh, yeah.
Number 49, the corner, who they signed a couple days ago because they're lacking cornerback
depth.
He's had a few past breakups that I've seen.
He's a tall guy.
I think he's got a shot to make the practice squad potentially.
Him and Samori Tori, man.
To give up a touchdown at the end of practice.
But, yeah, Samori, we love him.
The upper 40 numbers.
Yeah.
All of a sudden, these guys might be 53-man roster mogging the other guys.
They are not going to make the 53-man roster.
Oh, sorry, I meant practice squad.
Practice squad magging those guys.
AJ A.J. Pinesse was absolutely wearing out Demetrius Kronover with the two's today.
He continues to have a pretty good summer.
I'm looking at Pinesse.
Yeah.
Sean Wade got beat deep.
Keeley got beat several times today.
Unfortunate.
Oh, so with no Jalen Carter and with Byron Young down,
so the first team defensive line when they were in base included Ty Robinson
alongside Jordan Davis and Morrow Ojimo, and they didn't look any worse for where.
Defensive line was still dominating.
And then Zion Wilson actually got a few reps with the ones as the second team nose tackle.
Jordan Davis was speaking
positively about Zion Wilson
after practice today said that he has a very fun
and interesting story
you know, obviously running out of eligibility
and joining the NFL late.
Nolan Smith had a sack.
Looks good today.
Oh, here's a note.
We were watching practice.
It was me, Chris McPherson,
Jimmy Kamski, standing together.
Good group right there.
Great group.
Yeah.
They were hype-mocking me a little bit,
but that's okay.
I had a good time.
And there was this,
There's a whole, you know, the situation here at Patriots practice is it's open to the fans, right?
And the area that we were in, I think, is more for, like, corporate clients or something like that.
And there was, you know, some business bro who's talking to other people and he's all sweaty and he's just, he's business talking up in a storm.
And I can tell that it's, I can tell that Jimmy's annoyed with this guy.
and then he goes and he's talking about Philly this guy and he goes oh you know what I love in Philly
the Terminal Redding Market oh my God get out of here there's no way he said that the terminal
Reading Market in quotes terminal Redding Market the terminal Redding Market
Terminal Reading Market that sounds terrible he said it was such confidence moved on
but he called him on it.
I'm surprised Jimmy didn't have more of a reaction.
Well, he wasn't talking to us.
Oh, you just heard of his people.
Yeah, but Jimmy can hear it.
And we overheard it.
The terminal redding market.
And so that was tough.
Tough part of practice.
I'm sorry to hear about the running terminal market.
Other thing I'm going to tell you about after practice.
Yeah.
Is Lane came over,
was talking with a couple of us reporters.
I saw you guys talking to him.
Yeah.
And, you know, I'm being a doodleful reporter.
Also keeping in mind, like we got to have everything covering.
We're splitting, yeah.
But, man, I was jealous.
That's good access.
It was good.
He was talking.
It was nothing crazy.
You know, we were talking about some things going on around the league.
You know, what teams he's interested in.
He's talking about the L-Way dock.
But what the very first thing he said to us is,
Willie Lampkin is really good.
Really?
Unprompted.
Oh, my God.
Not asked about it.
Fran's heart is fluttered.
Not asked about it just is like, hey, guys.
Willie.
Have you heard about that Willie Lampton guy?
Remember this really Lamekin guy?
Like he thinks he's like it's just, it's, it's, it's beyond curiosity now.
He's just a good player.
I mean, dare to dream.
What does it look like for Willie Lampkin?
If he fulfills his potential, if he becomes the player that all of our imaginations are starting to really run with.
There's a starting set in the NFL.
Like a good one.
Yeah.
Like a weapon.
And the thing about Willie is if he's even just pretty good, because he's,
he's a curiosity, you know, he's going to get some
pro-bo votes, people, the fans
are going to be behind him.
You might be number, you know, John Coon made the NFL 100 one year.
You know, could be Willie Lampian.
He could be like a top
eight center in the NFL?
Yeah, centers are not that great.
Especially because we are not
putting him in any conversation with Jason Kelsey.
I want to make that just entirely clear.
But just specifically
with the fact that he would be
a player that you can take advantage
of in a scheme. Like, you could
say our run system.
You're more likely to get highlights with Lily Lamkin.
Yes, exactly.
Like Jason Kelsey became a weapon for the Eagles offense because you could get him out in space.
I always said, like, you know, if I had to explain Jason Kelsey to somebody who wasn't
that into football, I'd say he was quick enough to get to the little guys and strong enough
to deal with the bigger guys.
And like, that is like what Willie Lamkin could be is that type of player, not in the same
stratosphere.
But yeah, top eight center.
But if with the Eagles, it is a little bit, if you're really dreaming, it would be better.
if, you know, Cam was the one in the Landon situation
where it was like, this could be this guy's last year.
You know what I mean?
Because truly, like having Cam and Willie next to each other,
that would not be ideal.
Yeah, and having Landon next to Willie would be perfect.
And just like we saw Willie with Markle Bell,
it's like, those guys kind of make sense.
He's the Thunder and the Lightning.
Yeah.
Okay, I get what you're saying.
I mean, they can just, they can draft a guard.
I can find somebody to put next to him.
He's fun, man.
He's a fun player.
He's also, I mean,
I think we as reporters can overstate the stuff about who's working hard and stuff like that.
But, you know, the players tell us that he's always on the effort tape.
Yeah.
Right.
And he is, like, he is always out there.
He is there.
One of the first guys there.
Yeah.
After practice, he's working on snapping because he has had a couple errant snaps.
He's like, he took like a hundred snaps today.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Did you hear what Jordan Davis called Willie Lampkin today?
kind of a borrowed thing. We call him a bowling ball of knives. Yeah, bowling ball of
knives is what he called. I think bowling ball of butcher knives is a thing. I forget who said
it about who else. Fran said that he's a rolling, a rolling ball of razor blades. This is what
Fran called him. That's better. That's awesome. I think that's a Franism. Oh, I'm sure, Fran.
Yeah, but I think bowling ball of butcher knives, I think is a thing. Okay. Lindsay tells us Mike
McCarthy about DeMarcus. Did you use the AI overview for that, Lindsay? It's a video.
Okay, yeah, I think I'm
I think it must be a football guy term
Yeah, it's a football guy term
Which is why Fran likes it
Yeah, rolling ball of razor blades
I remember when I'm when Fran said it
Well, let's create a different one
A
What are the things that you put on a tank?
Because he's smaller, so he's a pickleball
Of a pickleball of shivs
A pickleball of shivs
Wow, you're only going to get this on the
PHOLI, you're only going to get this on the PHI
with podcast. Willie, the pickleball of shibs. Chives. It's not as alliterative. We need a pickleball of pokes.
No. What if we did like a soccer ball of shives? A soccer ball of shives. I like that.
Tennis ball of tweezers. Oh. No, the tweezers aren't sharp enough. Tweezers are sharp enough.
What are you talking about? Lindsay, what's this guy talking about? Tweezers are sharp.
No, not sharp as Willie. Let us know in the comments, you're illicit.
A conservative ball of weapons nickname for Willie Lankin.
Give me a ball that starts with an M.
Give me a ball that starts with an M.
Mudball.
No, I don't want to call him a mud ball.
That sounds dirty.
It sounds mean.
A what?
Marble.
A marble of machetes.
Oh, marble of machetes is pretty good.
All right.
You heard of here first in the P.H.O.Y. Eagles podcast.
I like marble of machetes.
We have 700 people.
watching us.
A marble of machetes is good.
We're workshopping nicknames for Willie Lampton.
Marble of machetes.
You heard of here first.
The marble of machetes.
That is really good.
What does Fran say?
A meatball of machetes.
A meatball of machetes.
That settles it.
That's also that flows better.
A meatball of machetes.
What a team.
What a team we have here.
That is it.
All four contributed on that one.
Fran also said a rolling ball of pregnant wives.
I want to make one.
One thing clear.
I wasn't blaming.
Your wife is pregnant, we know.
I wasn't blaming Julia for anything.
I was saying I feel responsible to not give her any problems.
She's got enough going on.
Meatball of machetes.
My only issue with meatball implies more roundness where Willie is actually pretty rocked up and just small.
Yeah, but he's a little round.
Mishetties is good.
It's all good.
That's fantastic.
All right, you want me to empty the notebook here?
Jail Hertz did have a productive quarterback drawl today.
It feels like that is going to be an element for this offense, something that they can still lean on.
I did have Don Tavian Wicks down for a drop at the midway through practice.
Let's see.
Smile Mondon made a couple good players today.
Sniffed out a run wide to the left, also blitzed through and had a pass breakup.
Gabe Hall had a good day.
Oh, you know what?
This will be a noteworthy thing.
People will want to know this.
They won't want to hear it.
but another day where Milton Williams just got the better of Landon Dickerson a few times.
And the thing is, when he gets the better of Landon, it's like it's impossible to miss.
It's like emphatic.
It's like an easy win.
So, I mean, Milton's a really good player, as everybody knows.
But, yeah, that was something that I had in my notebook a few times in quick succession here.
If I don't, I feel like we've maybe gone too hard on the Landon thing.
Yeah, he doesn't look terrible.
He doesn't look terrible.
He looks fine.
He looks slower.
reps where he looks
unlike he's
we're used to seeing him
where he's getting overpowered
and I don't know if that's like
an anchoring thing
it does look like
he's just laboring a little bit
he can still be effective
but if you are asking me
about like the starters
who have not had great camps
who am I actually worried about
I would say that like Landon is
one who I am actually worried
that he might just be
average
this year
yeah but average
Not like total liability.
Absolutely not.
Probably not as bad as he was last year.
I mean, he had moments where he was fine last year as well.
Obviously, just the injuries.
I think that's fair.
I think he's probably high on my list as well.
Super chat from the donk dink.
The don't think.
The donut ball of burgers.
I don't know.
Dinkleberg, mandatory super chat for the Gush push movement.
How is the Gush to that?
one tough rep today where he totally bit on play action gave up a catch he's been working in the
slot otherwise not notable seems like they really are just like pulley is the safety and
gushes the slot at this point the last week or so yeah do we miss any other super chats we get them
all i think we're good i think we're good see that let's see johnny munn didn't have the greatest
one-on-one reps he just doesn't look like a natural natural catcher of the football which is what
you'd expect but uh cam lot to had a catch in the flat
I love how you look at me
when I even say is they were like,
really, you're going to bring him up.
Had a catch in the flat.
This was after the second fight
and, you know, things were a little chippy.
Things were a little tense.
And he lowered the shoulder on two different guys.
Okay.
Like, you know, he was ready for the fight.
The one moment of chippiness on the other side of the field
came when, again, the Eagles run defense was so dominant
that like the Patriots running backs never got ahead of steam.
The one time they did, like six yards downfield,
Ramandre Stevenson lowers his shoulder on Cooper to Jean.
And Nolan Smith took exception of that to that, came in and did some shove-in.
Offensive lineman shoves Nolan.
There's a little bit of a huddle, and then off they go.
Last thing I wanted to say on the offense, I feel like E.J. Jenkins has had like, a quietly fine camp.
I agree with that.
You know, I mean, nothing like he hasn't had like a day or anything.
I agree with that.
He's been my player of the day.
But yeah, he's been solid.
Like, I think he is very firmly on the practice squad again.
I would be surprised if he was on the 53.
But it wouldn't surprise me if he got activated from the practice.
to squad in week one.
Right.
I think he could be, you know, if it's a kind of deal where you want to carry Eli Stowers,
but not a fourth tight end, but you need a third tight end active on game day.
That could be a spot for E.J. Jenkins.
We've got a couple minutes left.
Join us in overtime.
Oh, I got a text here from Poppy Wolf.
Oh, really?
The big guy.
Medicine ball with scalples.
That's a good thing.
It's like a medical theme there.
That's pretty good.
I like that.
I mean, you know, great writers in that family.
That's great.
Shout out Mr. Wolf.
Shout out Big Steve.
Is he the type of guy who wouldn't like me calling him, Mr.
No, he's the kind of guy would be furious if you didn't call him Mr.
Oh, really?
No.
I mean, I've got great respect for him, but I don't know him personally yet.
So he's Mr. Wolf until I meet him.
There you go.
I like that.
All right.
No more notes?
That's pretty much it.
All right.
Last thing I want to say.
Thanks everybody for watching this week.
It's been a good 48 hours here.
Lindsay absolutely crushed it, getting us set up here.
Fantastic.
Good job by you two, EJ.
I guess.
Shout out to the guy who didn't come.
We really stole a spot here, and I think we ruined this guy's afternoon.
We'll make it up to.
So we're going to end the bad boy and let him get through at some point here,
make our way back to Philadelphia.
Let us know in the comments.
If you got any more Willie Lampkin, nicknames,
No show tomorrow because on Saturday we will have a postgame show for you following the Eagles Patriots game.
And more importantly, everybody at PHOI, just we need some time to get ourselves prepared for the Ospreys.
You're going to join us hopefully on Wednesday, the 26th at the Fittler Club.
Wish E.J. a happy birthday. Big celebration. See if you can celebrate Moggin.
All right. Thank you, everybody for watching and listening. We will talk to you.
after the game on Saturday night for Lindsay and EJ. I'm Bo. We thank you for watching and listening.
And as always, we love you.
