Hello, everybody.
Live from the Xfinity Lounge.
This is the P.H.O.Y. Eagles postgame show presented by Bet365 and Ashley.
Oh, boy, do we have a great show coming your way tonight.
Presented by, yeah, it's the P.HL.M.A. Show.
We got Super Bowl champion, Vinnie Curry.
We got Champion of something, Jamie Lynch.
What a night it has been here in Philadelphia.
Champion of misery?
And champion of misery. That's good.
we're going to hear from Fran Duffy.
We're going to hear from E.J. Smith.
We're going to hear from you, the sickos in the chat.
Because, listen, we have been waiting for the Philadelphia Eagles
to put together a true team performance on both sides of the ball.
All three sides of the ball, if you will.
And in this game, boy, did they do it.
The worst EPA per drive they've had on defense
since the start of last season.
The worst EPA per drive they've had on offense
since the start of last season.
this team rounding into form in week six.
Vin and Curry, what's your takeaway?
Man, we gave up over 150 yards rushing.
Too many missed tackles.
The pass rush was invisible.
This is horrible.
I'm pissed.
Yeah, Opie and Anthony, Cam Scadaboo and Jackson Dart
combining for 156 yards rushing
and four touchdowns in the 34 to 17.
lost for the four and two Philadelphia Eagles.
Jamie, how about you?
I mean, this is
one of the worst possible
Philadelphia sports evenings I've ever
lived through. From
a baseball collapse
to that performance in the second
half was just comically
bad. I fear that the
Eagles are somewhat broken.
Not saying it's irreparable,
but something's up.
Something's wrong. Vinnie, you know
much better than me what a locker room is going through right now.
You got to tackle.
You got to tackle.
You got to tackle.
It seems bigger than that.
God damn.
Now listen, they entered this game without Jalen Carter.
Sure.
When Yon Mitchell leaves the game in the first time.
And that's huge.
Did you feel like there was an effort issue tonight?
No, I feel like the guys was there.
You just have to tackle.
It was so many missed tackles that turn into X plays and big plays after contact.
Like, you got to tackle.
You got to tackle.
You got to tackle.
You got to make the plays when it's time to make the plays.
You have to tackle.
And then we got them to rather what second or long or third along.
And it was the man had all day back there.
Yeah, Jackson, we end up getting two sacks.
17 of 25 for 195 yards a touchdown.
No interceptions, 104.6 quarterback rating.
I think there are three positives.
from this game if I'm an Eagles fan.
Number one, last year at week six,
they didn't seem very good either.
Okay?
So maybe it's going to happen again.
Number two, maybe this makes the Broncos feel more embarrassed
for treating last week like they won the Super Bowl?
Maybe this team's not very good.
Yeah, and the Giants played the Broncos next week.
That's true.
And number three, we have the report from E.J. Smith
about what happened after the game,
and that is, now keep in mind that this show
is not part of the PHOI Eagles Weekly
Universe, this is a separate entity.
So I will tell you this.
Eagles fan and handcuffs,
getting walked out of the stadium,
sees ZB and goes,
I love your work, Zach,
and then turns to the officer and goes,
that's Zach Berman.
So there you go.
That's a pretty funny anecdote
from the evening.
I laughed a lot,
tonight to kind of just Russell Wilson's throw was very funny that was very funny
that was like eight yards behind his target I didn't it I just I mean it was it was so
bad I had to laugh yeah and yet you do have to be appreciative of the fact that
that the eagles did go out of their way to really shore up the kickoff return game
what the hell is going on there oh man kickoff return game damn there I felt like
Jalen was under pressure like, like, like, no other.
Offensive lines is not very good right now.
Listen.
I just hope they take this, this weekend to fun, to really,
to freaking.
Yeah, to freaking.
Yeah.
Rest up, man.
Sorry, chat.
Listen, it's a banged up team.
Short weeks are tough.
But the truth is the talent disparity in this game,
even without Lennon Dickerson and Jalen Carter and Quineaud Mitchell,
it's still so heavily tilted in the Eagles direction.
This is an embarrassing,
potentially rock bottom moment for the Eagles.
You know, the per play stats in this game,
they're pretty even game, right?
The Eagles were moving the ball on offense.
Jalen Hertz throws his first interception of the season,
a terrible throw.
You know, he misses a wide open Devonte Smith,
on what could have been a touchdown.
That would have been a game, listen, that would have been a game changer.
That would have been a momentum of swing.
They were down by three points at the time.
Oh, man, that would have been a moment of swing.
Bo, you mentioned the interception, and you shared with us a screenshot that is probably
going to be the thing I wake up tomorrow morning concerned most about.
Yeah, AJ Brown is wide open on the post.
AJ forces a ball to Jahan Dotson on the sideline in tight coverage, and AJ
Brown is streaking on a post through the end zone with probably two to three yards of separation
between him and the DB and Jalen doesn't even look at him. And with how their relationship has been
and when AJ looks at that tape and sees how open he was, I fear they're getting to a point
where this is slightly more problematic than it was. I don't think it's that play in particular,
but I don't think that that situation is going away.
No.
Oh, God, no.
Because listen, he did throw the ball to AJ Brown plenty tonight.
Sure.
Nine targets, six counts just for 80 yards.
He had just thrown him the ball.
And then it was actually right after the play where AJ got banged up by Paulson
Nadebo, which I don't know why they picked up that flag.
That should have been a penalty.
Didn't make a difference in the outcome of the game.
But, yeah, I mean, AJ Brown was wide open.
And it was a weird, it was a weird series where Jalen Hertz was just like one look to his left
and throwing it to his left like six times in a row.
So you understand why Cordell Flott was able to jump that pass.
I thought, I thought Jalen was not that bad tonight.
Like one small bit of encouragement was we saw the scramble drill actually worked better in this
game, which has been an issue for the Eagles.
They picked up a few first downs there.
I mean, they did score 17 points or 13 points.
No, yeah, 17 points in the first half.
But then they get shut out in the second half.
How many touch pushes in a row?
That was four in a row.
Tush pushes in a row.
Micah Parsons tweeted, this isn't football, trash emoji, trash emoji, trash emoji during that.
I mean, the four in a row I do is like, what are we doing?
That was Harry High School.
like that was kind of embarrassing
if we're being honest.
Like I find the touch push funny
but like there's a point.
But then my other thing is
to the DB's credit
we have a young group back there
you know they're young
but there's no passphrase
just correlate together
so the guys you know
they're trying to cover their man
and Jackson Dark looking like
Joe Montana
it's just
Yeah I mean
Jackson Dart
Cam Scataboo
Lil Jordan Humphrey
Juan Dale Robinson, Theo Johnson, Jalen Hyatt.
These are the people who made the Eagles defense have their worst game
since Vic Fangio took over as defensive coordinator.
That is pathetic.
Yeah, I think if I'm Howie Roseman,
I'm starting to make calls at halftime of that game
and maybe call some of those bottom feeders in the NFL
and try to target either some edge or some cornerback guys.
I don't think this cornerback two situation is really sustainable.
I like Kili Ringo a little bit.
but to rely on him
if you have Super Bowl aspirations right now
feels a little sketchy
but to Vinny's point
there's also no edge rush to go with it
and those two are
a marriage and
this feels bad
Nolan Smith can't get back quick enough
I'm telling you because when you don't
when the patch rush not up to Paul
and make the second day look a little
and those guys are out on an island
yes
and they're not good enough to be on an island
Right. You need, if they're not both going to be good, you need one of them to be elite.
And we've been in a locker room with some veteran DBs. So you could tell there's no
veteran DBs back there because you would definitely hear it. I mean, I don't know what Asante
Samuel Jr.'s next situation is right now. But like, hold on what do you mean? Like they'd be getting
on you. Like, you got to get home, right? Yeah, they'd be a lot of arguing.
Okay.
You know, I was watching the one show that you and BG had when he called,
Flet's bumpy.
Yeah.
You should a lot of that.
She did a lot of that stuff.
You know what I mean?
It was just, you got to have that because we also know that we in this together.
And I didn't see togetherness.
The correlation I did.
I'm sorry.
I just didn't.
It was like a disconnect.
There's a lot of fun of fiss pumps.
Like we ain't doing that.
We ain't fiss pumping too.
We know we up and all that.
Interesting.
A lot of things I just is like, oh, wow.
It's a little different.
It's interesting.
The one of the last time you should the Eagles difference
to play a fist pumping.
We lose it.
Yeah?
Oh,
chat,
help me out.
No,
because I'm curious of it all
because when you know that there is stuff going on
between leaders on the team,
can that trickle down and affect everybody in the locker room
and like sap everybody's energy?
No, that's when you got to listen
You got to ignore the noise
You know
That's when you pull together
Strongly
Together
You know
That's why football is one of the
The greatest games
Played because it takes all
They take the whole team
All 11
But let's separate the two for a minute
Because you have Lane
And you have Maya Lata
And you have like your senior
Offensive veterans
This is the youngest defense in the NFL
If I'm not mistaken
That's what I'm telling you
You can tell
Tonight you can see
Do they have that
guy on the defensive side of the ball.
Like, that was Darius Slay last year.
Or is Zach Bond supposed to be that guy?
Because he's the most veteran player on that defense.
Who's the person on the defense that pulls everybody together?
I don't know if they have that guy right now.
As an outsider, I'm not in that locker room, but...
I would say Zach or Nicobi.
Nacobo.
Now, read Blankenship as a captain.
Jalen Carter didn't play in this game.
Right.
But is Jane Lund Smith is injured.
but yeah
you know
next next man up mentality
like you know
you know
you gotta be ready to go
I mean this is bad
how he has to make a move
like because I still believe
there's a good football team in there
and right now what you're seeing
from the edge talent
the edge passing group and the cornerbacks
is not sustainable
I mean look at that wide receiver room
that cut you up tonight
that's pathetic
that's a trash wide receiver room we can call it what it is this the group it started tonight is the worst
wide receiver in the NFL no those guys are all on waiver wires viny there you know yeah i mean you
got you get like this this game starts with little jordan humphrey mossing keeler and go all right
i guess we can go home that i mean that what else do you have to say right like that's bad
damn something's got Nolan smiths do back in what maybe two three more weeks
weeks.
Yeah.
Maybe.
I think it was like a November kind of deal.
It was November 10th, I think.
So we're looking at three, four.
That's too long.
Isaiah Rogers or...
Isaiah Rogers or Darius Slay, like, come on down.
Isaiah Rogers is probably the big mistake of the off season.
You had to find a way to keep them.
Or Slay, yeah, one of the two.
They put too much stock in Kili Ringo.
Let's call it what it is.
I just...
Say it.
Speak it, Vinny.
I got it.
I'll give me one more.
I have to see one more week with this password.
I didn't see the password come alive for me to really gauge them.
That's fair.
But also they're missing,
like they're missing tackles too.
What I'm saying.
You know,
Macuba was run over a couple times tonight,
which is a thing that you worried about.
He was a thing that you're worried about.
He's never scared.
He's always willing to be physical.
He might need another insured too, but.
Yeah.
Sometimes he just is not physically strong enough.
Yeah.
That was, damn, I can't believe.
But Dallas got her nine for 110 and a touchdown.
That was nice.
It was nice to see from Dallas.
He's tough, though.
Yes.
He's tough.
He's tough.
Oh, he's tough.
There's one thorough player right there, man.
He's going to bring his whole hat to.
Yes.
Shea in the chat says, I disagree.
This is sustainable.
They can be this bad consistently.
Oh, you're not wrong.
Yeah, that's the problem.
It's like I hesitate to say rock bottom.
him because it could always get worse.
This could get worse.
It can always get worse.
Ah, no, no, see, see, see.
I have to disagree with that one.
Now, Harvey Roseman at the helm.
I don't think it could get worse.
And, you know,
when all the draft picks we got,
I don't know about that one.
If AJ shuts it down and him and A.
Yeah, that's a problem.
It's fractured.
It gets, hey, there's somebody.
Listen, I see,
I see.
We see some guys get,
uh,
shipped out.
You're like, damn, that happened?
I'm just saying, I've seen crazy things happen in the national football league,
especially on the Philadelphia Eagles.
Yes.
Over the years.
I'm just saying, I'm not.
What comes to mind?
Chip Kelly?
I'm just, yeah, I'm just saying, I just.
Isaac Sopiwanga?
I've seen a lot of, okay, he goes to because of mine.
It comes to my chat.
I remember Jason Babin was leading the team in Sacks.
Yes.
A little friction.
Well, I remember sitting at home.
He come across the ticket.
It's been cut.
Like, damn.
He was one of the air.
Yeah.
I forgot about that.
I haven't the only one.
Like right off the plane.
I've seen guys get traded from the bus.
Like, yeah.
So, yeah.
Something to say.
Yeah.
Look who's at the helm.
I was what I'm saying?
Oh, how is a madman?
Yes, I'm saying.
Ha, ha, and he's got this thing figured out.
His monopoly game is, I'm not.
Yes.
Yeah, you know, I think you.
He's going to have a busy weekend.
Oh, you better get busy.
He's going to get busy.
What's the trade deadline?
It's second week in November.
I think that's right.
Maybe right before that.
I mean, you have to think with the amount of picks they have,
and to Vinny's point, like players that they can move on from,
something's going to happen.
Yeah.
But, you know, I just think they'll shake some things up to help the defense out, you know.
The office is fine.
So would you be happier to see this defense at a star edge rusher or, you know, a starting caliber, very good corner?
I'm going to say a star edge rusher.
Okay.
And chat, don't say I'm biased.
Don't do that.
But I would say start.
There's a guy out there.
V. Curry, who I think that you could, you know, let's throw a lot of money that way.
I don't think V. Curry handfuls can have any of that.
But hey, I do have a counterparty that works here, a coworker that works here,
that could probably help us out on third downs, 55.
D.G., you watching? Get loose.
You know, but listen, man, I just, how we will make a move.
they'll figure it out.
The defense is very, very young, and they looked at young today.
So why edge Rush Rover over corner?
Because I think what speed up the process, what they call it quarterback clock.
We'll speed it up a little bit more and it will help the DBs out that we have.
Because listen, our DBs is not playing like extremely terrible.
It's just too much time.
Well, Quignan obviously makes them, I mean, he's a top five cornerback in the league in all likelihood.
Like, he is going to change a lot of this.
So I'm with you.
Like, I think they need an edge rush or bad.
Bad.
Because, look, Nolan Smith is still an ascending player.
He's not a lock to come back and be an eight to 10 sack guy.
Yeah.
I like Nolan Smith.
Right.
But he's not a lock here.
And let me just say this.
Let me just say this.
John Carter, I mean, Jordan Davis, he played well tonight.
Yeah, he did.
He was the brightest spot on that defense.
you know
but you know
I mean
a lot of their
success tonight
was on the edges
but
Jordan Davis has turned
into a much better
and we had a sack tonight
oh our graphics department
just came in
with the new graphic
we got true media
we have all these advanced
stats this is very nice
to see that
we're able to incorporate that
my favorite one
is the defensive
third down efficiency
yeah
that's poop
though
the interception department
also poop
fumbles
poop
sacks poop
and defensive
turnovers, poop.
Yes.
Chiance were 11 for 16, or 69%
on third down in this game.
What were we talking about
in the middle of that?
We're talking about Jordan Davis.
Jordan Davis.
Jordan Davis has really taken a leap
as a pass rusher, it feels like.
But he is not
being,
it's not all on him at all,
but it's not like he's a one-man
run defense right now because the run defense as a group is has struggled all season long
and was was not good enough tonight what's the biggest thing they can do to improve that vene
besides getting jalen carter back obviously listen listen if you really watch they
me and boe was sitting there watching they had some of tackler that should have been
titles for loss yeah missed tackles and it was hitting you know did you got to tackle
listen
I
they need to tackle
yeah
they need to tackle
everybody needs to look at their self
in the mirror
I understand like
everybody looking for a pop
just get the man down to the ground
so what's I'm curious
I'd love to be a fly on the wall
on a Vic Fangio
film session after this game
what is what is that going to be like in there
you don't you know
you didn't play for the man
but you have an idea of what he is
and what he's about
I'm pretty sure he's pissed all
is, you know, even the blitzes that he did call
that should have hit home, but just mistackles.
So I'm pretty sure he's pissed off.
But I know if that was us,
there would have been a lot of MFing going on.
All of stuff thrown.
And in front of the room, they had this, like,
iPad that controlled to the projector.
I didn't see the heck it smacked him, bro.
Because one of Siriani's things,
And Bo, you can maybe back me up here.
They call people out, like, on the film reviews.
And it's, like, positive and negatives.
And there's, like, more or less a score sheet.
Is that enough motivation for these guys?
Like, is that all the motivation they need?
Thursday night football, I gave up over 150 yards rushing.
Yeah.
The man had 98 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
You tell me, something need to be broke.
Rather, there's a chair.
I have something to be broke.
I can't tell you when the last,
time like it looked like this yeah it's been a long time I can't I I I can't and I'm
talking I'm going back over a decade I can't tell you the last time I look like this on the
on on on Thursday night football especially yeah the national TV aspect I
guess does I mean that should really you kind of got your nose stuffed in the poop yeah
and then on the night of my man dropping his uh fine video yeah
Cicuan documentary go watch it
Oh, my God.
Got to be kidding me.
This was the most rushing yards against the Eagles
since Vic Fangio got here,
except the week 17 game from last year,
which they didn't try.
Yeah, they set the stories.
Yeah, they set the stories.
Yeah.
But it's just like, come on, man.
When they last, like, that's why we,
everybody's in shock.
You just said, the beginning of the show,
a guy walking out in handcuffs, Eagle Fan.
Yeah.
Yeah, he's pissed.
He was watching that Phillies game on repeat.
He spent his lives to get that ticket.
Yeah.
And they see this type of performance.
Gotta be kidding me.
No.
Oh my gosh.
They ask AJ in the locker room.
Uh-oh.
Uh-oh.
E.J.
We will play this because E.J. just put it in.
He goes game day.
They asked E.J. in the locker room about,
the meeting with Jalen and Sequin.
And AJ goes, I don't recall a meeting.
There, there, there, there's trouble in paradise, folks.
This, this feels untenable at this point.
You can tell me I'm making too much of it.
But we, we've all seen, you know, for lack of a better word,
diva wide receivers before.
And I know it's an impossible financial situation for the Eagles to move on from them.
It's not impossible.
Well, nothing's impossible.
You take it on the chin.
But how many time it wasn't the open to do it?
That touch, that touchdown and the interception play.
I'm going to be thinking about that all morning.
This feels bad.
Vinny can I ask you a very difficult question?
Shoot.
If you had to trade, Chilean Hertz, or AJ Brown, who did you trade?
Come on, man, my son probably watching the show.
All right.
Let's take a break.
What's up, no?
We got plenty more to come.
Fran Duff is going to join us next
for Franz film room
Tanner McKee.
Talk about some of the big plays
from this game.
We've got a lot to talk about.
We've got to hear from you.
The Super Chatters.
We're going to talk to E.J. Smith live
from MetLife,
but first, a word from our sponsors.
So, hi, Rosamund invites me over to his place
the other day.
He's like, Bo, come on over.
Like, I know you want to watch the game.
Like, let's do it.
I want to talk to you about some trade ideas.
I got another kick returner
I want to go get.
I said, of course.
I'm happy to come over.
Problem is I get there
and this TV setup was awful.
Lagging, buffering,
switching between apps,
trying to find the game.
I was like I was fan-fished.

Ethan hit me with that beef stick.
Oh, yeah.
That's the OG Hickory right there.
Brought to you by righteous felon.
I struggle to open these because they're so delicious.
That's why you struggle?
I just get so excited at the deliciousness
that I struggle every time.
My palms are sweaty.
I know.
I'm trying to do this.
read and open to the beef stick. Life gets hard. But these are delicious. Righteous felon is bringing you
eight to nine grams of protein per beef stick with just one added gram of sugar. They're gluten-free,
soy-free, low sugar, everything you want and nothing you don't need. This is the OG Hickory right
here. This is probably my favorite. My girl, Skyler and Paige, absolutely love these things. I send
them to school with them all the time. Why? Because they fill you up. It's healthy. You feel good about
it. They have four different varieties. They got the fiery habanero, the lemon pepper turkey,
and also the street taco pork. And you can grab all four flavors at righteous felon.com.
The best part, in my opinion, they're a local company based right here in the Delaware Valley.
Use code P.HLY 20 to get 20% off your first order. So or you can hit the streets.
Two ounce jerky bags are two for ten bucks at Wawa. You'll also find them at Giant,
Royal Farms. I've seen them at Costco.
thousands of independent stores across the country.
Righteous felon, high protein, bold flavor.
No BS.
All right.
Back on the P.H.O.I. Eagles post game show.
Julia, can you shoot Fran the link to come on?
And then we'll get him shortly.
Let's go to the super show.
How beautiful was it?
How beautiful was it when we just was winning?
And I'm 123 passing 60 yards rush.
I know.
It was a beautiful day.
We was giving out beach things.
And now it is.
Let's get back to that million-dollar question.
You know what's like the running game was working tonight, too?
It seemed like a little bit better.
They just couldn't stick now.
You don't always be running it on first and second down.
I mean, listen, there are a lot of professionals here.
You talked about Howie.
He's going to try to make something happen.
Nick has been through these ups and downs before.
He was pissed.
Right?
Like, he has experience with these things starting to get a little shaky.
Right.
And has pulled them back on the rails.
He deserves a little bit of faith.
Is he shaving his head?
If I were him, I would.
Growing an afro, going mullet.
You don't know that, you know.
What's he doing?
He's one for one.
Yeah.
But it doesn't feel good right now.
No, it doesn't.
Am I the only one that?
feels like this is completely untenable between Jalen and AJ.
I feel like it's broke,
like it's already over.
I just feel like last year at this point.
It feels like it's over.
We was creating turnovers and giving Jaylin and AJ more opportunities
and now we're not.
So it's being magnified, you know,
other than a microscope.
So, Vinny, if you had to trade one.
No, Bill Williams, no Darry Slay, no Isaiah Rogers.
Yeah.
No Josh sweat.
I miss sweaty.
No Milton.
And then when you look at it, you know, just from across the street, they all ball in.
And it's like, uh, Milton Williams having a great year.
Yes.
All of them.
Josh Sweets got five sacks.
Josh Swett's one of the more underrated eagles, like ever.
Probably up there with Minnie Curry.
All right.
Let's head to Fran's film room brought to you by our friends at Ashley.
Fran, good to see you, my friend.
Oh, he's wearing the big blue.
We got a scataboo, truther.
It's Brand Duffy.
Friend, I hope there's a Phillies.
You know, when I heard that the Phillies were wearing the powder blues,
I was like, I don't have a powder blue.
This is like the closest I can get.
And then I'm sitting here and I'm like, all right,
it is kind of close to Giants Blue, but it's too late to change now.
But look, it is what it is.
Don't try and turn the tables on me.
This was a dreadful night.
Scada Blue, have they done that?
Not yet.
I'm sure Al Michaels would love to do it, though.
Fran, if you had to trade AJ or Jalen, who are you trading?
I can't even like, as soon as Beau said it, I was like, I can't, I hope you don't ask me
because I can't even wrap my knee around that debate.
I told him my son watching, man, he's a lot of Eagles too much.
He'll start crying there.
Any of them, you know, those is his guys right there.
Yeah.
My wife and someone not let me live that down if I were to answer that question at, you know,
midnight on a Thursday night in September.
All right, before we get to some of the snappy snaps here.
And the grabby grabs.
I mean, what did you think?
What was your takeaway?
You know, for a team that hung its hat on out-physicaling every single team that they lined up against
down the stretch last year and in the postseason.
Well said.
This team got out-muscled on both sides of the ball tonight.
They were the weaker team.
They were the less physical team on both sides.
the New York Giants out-tuff them.
And it was tough to watch what that performance looked like on both sides of the ball.
Fran, um, Toth, they've cut them like 15 times.
Is this experiment over?
I mean, I don't know what the, what the other option is right now.
Clearly, he, the, he and Jordan are struggling in terms of like passing off stunts and being
in executing, like picking those up.
You know, last week, Denver got them once or twice, you know, it was at least once.
sack and it was a couple of pressures on jalen hurts there were two sacks that came from that
side tonight uh off of off of stunts and twist that's something that's got to get cleaned up some
of it's mental some of it's you know from a technique standpoint so yeah that that is something
that needs to get cleaned up but honestly like it was more than that tonight certainly like if
it was just as easy it's like oh switch out the left guard get landing back in there uh then i would
say all right you can you can almost like swallow this but this is this was this was bad this
was really bad.
That's not, it is not, it is nowhere near the top of their issues.
But that does bother me because Toad has been here forever.
And he, the whole reason he's there is because he's available.
No, he took every rep at left guard this summer when Leonard Dickerson was not there.
He and Jordan have had a lot of reps working next to each other.
They have, they have had a lot of time to iron this out.
And so that is disappointing.
It is not like this guy just got thrown in there.
Like, that's why he's there.
And I don't even think he's nowhere near the top of their problems.
But like, for them to not be able to work stuff out,
I'm sorry.
They've had two months to work on that.
And not only that, like this also is not a, you know,
first year player, second year player.
Right.
This is a guy that has been on the team, you know, on and off for a long time.
You know, we're talking six, seven years.
said that Brett Tooth has been around this organization.
And so to have those kind of lapses, those kinds of breakdowns for that reason,
yeah, that that does make it a little bit more difficult to deal with.
What did you think of Jalen tonight?
You know, obviously, look, the first half was really efficient.
The numbers looked great.
They were moving the ball.
You mentioned, you have 17 points in the first half.
You feel good about it.
But to get blanked in the second half, the way that they did,
where they leaned into the past game, you know, to me, like they were running the ball with
authority in the first half of this game, they come out and you had two explosives from
Saquan Barkley on the first two plays of the game. You had four straight runs to start this game,
and then they finished it off with the pass to punch it into the end zone. But it's like,
all right, like they found something. They're going to be able, they should be able to run the
ball against this team. This is one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. So they come out and
they say, we're going to establish the run here in this one, and it worked. And in the first half,
it looked like they were running the ball well, better than they had at any point in this year.
and then you come into the second half
and they completely get away
from running the football, number one,
and then by going, leaning into the pass,
after Jalen threw the ball well in the first half,
he was not throwing the ball well in the second half.
I mean, some of those misses,
like that missed to Devante Smith on the deep ball.
I, you know, early out of the season,
we're like, oh, that's an uncharacteristic miss.
Yeah.
I don't know that that's an uncharacteristic miss this year.
Yeah.
I think the times of saying, like,
oh, like, Jaylon Hertz, like he's a great deep.
ball thrower that has not been the case this year. Like the numbers bear that out, the film bears that
out. There's been a lot of misses this year on these vertical throws. And then outside of that,
I mean, the interception, we'll look at the, we'll look at the interception. The interception is a terrible,
a terrible ball. It's a you can't miss inside on an outbreaking route, and I'll call on a quick
out route, especially against, you know, against man coverage. Because that corner is sitting on that.
The only way he's going to make a play on that ball is if that ball is put exactly where it was.
Why don't we do that? Let's break that down.
Let's go to the first one, yeah.
And I mean, before you even get to how bad of a throw it is,
it sure looks like AJ is wide open over the middle of the field.
But what did you see here from the broadcast?
Yeah, so we got, if we go to I&T1 here, Julia.
So this is going to be a cover zero blitz from the New York Giants.
And the Giants, they mix things up from a pressure standpoint,
from a look standpoint, whether it was second down, third down,
They threw a bunch of different things at Jalen Hertz here in this game.
And this is a cover zero look where they're going to creep those.
And by the way, these little red circles here, this is like a, you know, this is like an AI thing that Amazon does on their broadcast.
It's like, probability.
These guys are likely to come based off like alignment and late in the pre-snap phase movement.
And it automatically like will shine up.
So the fact that these guys came in late in the pre-snap phase right off the bat.
It's like, all right, like there's a threat here that these guys could blitz.
And that's all three of these guys that are circled here are going to blitz.
All those DBs that are in the secondary are going to be playing man-to-man coverage.
So this is cover zero.
You have a six-man rush.
They end up being a seven-man rush because Saquan Barclay stays in to protect.
So it's a seven-man rush with four defenders playing straight man-to-man coverage,
no safety help in the middle of the field.
Julie, if you go to the next shot here, basically you've got four routes here.
And honestly, three of the four are viable.
options for Jalen Hertz. Jalen likes, he's going to go to the quick out route to
John Dotson, to the far left. That's, that's the, and honestly, that's a route that he throws a lot.
It's one of his, clearly one of his favorite routes to be able to throw. It's, it's a tight window
because, again, you, you, there is a margin for error here where if you miss this inside,
there's the threat to go the other way. You have Dallas Goddard in the slot. You can see that he's
basically wide open here. It's second and 10. You can't go broke making a profit. If you hit Goddard
here on this play against men.
man coverage against a safety playing from depth.
Like, that's at least five or six yards.
But again, his eyes, his first read here was going to be Jahan Dotson.
The one that's going to be brought up, and you alluded to it, Bo, was you had AJ Brown
working the, work in the middle of the field, the skinny post.
He's going for a touchdown.
And so now, we don't know what the progression is, what the read is there.
I'll be interested to hear Jaylenity.
I know that I think E.J. just messaged us that Jaylon's going to be speaking soon.
So we'll start to see those quotes start to leak out.
But I'll be interested to hear Jalen talk about this play,
where his eyes were supposed to be leading into it.
But not surprising that this is the route that he went to.
You know, it's not, I'm not going to kill him for not throwing it to A.J.
But it's, again, it's just one of those where it's a bad look.
You see Dallas Scott are wide open over the ball here.
But he's going to go to Dotson.
And Julia, let's go to the last shot.
You've got one spot that you can't miss.
You can miss this high.
You can miss this down and away.
you can miss this outside.
You can't put this ball in the inside shoulder.
And that's exactly where he put it.
And Cardell Flott took it the other way and nearly pick six to it.
Okay.
Do you not kill him there, friend, just because of the progressions of the play or like,
Yeah, that's it.
Because my dumb brain goes, how the hell do you miss that?
I know it might be the second read, but.
It's bad.
It's bang, bang.
And so without knowing, like, what his read is supposed to be, like, the coaches might
say like, oh, like, you're supposed to go to AJ there.
Like, there's something there pre-s-now.
You're supposed to go to AJ.
But if that's not within the progression, then on the outside, like, that's just
information we don't have.
So I'm not going to automatically say, like, that's on, that's on jailing that he's
got to get that ball to AJ.
I'll do that.
Meanwhile, the defense put its worst game in a very long time.
Some of us maybe thought there were some signs.
Well, you know, I mean, you, you, you spent like 35 minutes railing on,
Quignon last week.
I was going to say, excuse me, a lot of that was Quinyon focused.
Yeah.
No.
Which is yes.
But what happened?
I mean, it was bad.
I mean, not having Quinyon certainly hurt, not having Jalen Hurts certainly hurt,
or Jalen Carter rather, certainly hurt.
I think that Vinny's point about the tackling was brutal.
I mean, we're going to take a look at the first two touchdowns from this game.
And tackling was a major issue on both of those plays.
but I mentioned the lack of physicality.
They got moved in the run game.
Like, they got moved off the ball.
A couple different spots.
You know, I thought that Jordan Davis held up fairly well.
And again, this is all like, you know,
without going through the tape and watching every snap.
But it felt like it wasn't necessarily Jordan Davis getting moved off the ball.
I felt like I saw Robinson get moved.
I saw Ojamo get moved.
The linebacker struggling to get off blocks at times.
But then you had the mistackles that did pop up again.
I mean, they lost off the ball.
And then in the past game, clearly they went after Ringo.
They went after Jackson a handful of times.
And they were able to take what they wanted with guys that are not household dames.
We didn't hear any Bo Collins, but plenty of little Jordan Humphrey here in this game,
which I don't think was on the bingo card coming into Thursday night.
All right.
Let's get to those first two Giants touchdowns, Fran, break those down for us.
Yep.
So, Julia, this will be a tackle one.
So this is the opening drive for a first touchdown here.
for the New York Giants
and it's third and long.
You're going to have Zach Bond up on the line of scrimmage.
You have Campbell up in the line of scrimmage.
It's looking like it's going to be pressure.
It looks like it's going to be a blitz here.
But if you go to the next shot,
you're going to see that Zach Bond is going to fall out.
And he's essentially going to be serving as a spy here on Jackson Dart.
Now, what you see, this was a theme throughout the night
where you start to see the defensive line start to constrict the pocket.
You start to get it.
But they just couldn't finish.
Yeah, they couldn't get hands.
on Jackson Dart.
They couldn't get him, obviously,
couldn't get him to the ground consistently enough.
I think they finished with two sacks,
but really, you know,
the one was a scramble that he fell down,
falling forward,
and then it ended up that it was a sack for zero yards.
I think they credited that one to Jordan Davis.
And then there was one that was like he would probably say
it was a, you know, a quote unquote real sack.
They could not finish in the backfield.
They could not pressure Dart enough.
I was looking through some next gen numbers
and it was like, oh, like,
whether it was against the blitz or not,
like Dart was very effective.
they just could not pressure it.
They could not affect him enough
to the point where he was going to feel sped up.
And here he steps up,
and now it's going to be Zach Bond
one on one in the hole.
If we go to the next shot here,
it's on one on the hole with Jackson Dart.
And Dart throws a little dead leg here
in the middle of the field,
makes Zach Bond miss,
and he takes off for the end zone.
So that's a mistackle
that leads to a touchdown run for Jackson Dart.
Now you fast forward to the next drive,
and Julie, if you go forward two spots here,
you're going to fast forward to the next
drive and this is going to be the touchdown for Wondell Robinson.
And on this play, on this play, Drew, on this play, Drew McCuba, he actually, he's,
he busts the assignment early on in this one.
And he's, he's in the wrong spot.
So now you see him.
And he's, now he's trying to recover.
So this is him now.
He sees, I forgot my guy, Juan Del Robinson's all alone here along the boundary.
I have to try and get over there fast.
And by doing that, he gets in there not under.
control and he's unable to finish this tackle. He doesn't break down and finish. Julie, if you go to
the next shot, you can see that Robinson could just kind of leaves him in the dust there. So, you know,
and Vinny, you alluded to it, it's not like a lack of want to with McCuba, but this was an issue
that popped up during his time at Texas and during his time at Clemson was that, you know,
he is a physical player. He is a competitive player. He is an instinctive player. But there are times
where, you know, that smaller frame, he was like, you know, sub-190 at the combine.
That does show up when he's trying to play through contact.
Vinny, you talked about it, how comfortable looked in the pocket all night long.
Even when, as you say, Fran, the bodies were around him.
It didn't affect him.
At all.
Since when a New York giant quarterback looked that comfortable against us.
Yeah?
This is, that hurt?
Carrie Collins
Literally
I'm not even being
facetious like you gotta go back
Like Carrie Collins
You know
That's just
That's why
It stick out like a sore thumb
Did that
Tonight just was insane
Like we haven't seen this
And to be on primetime TV
I love
How you think of it
Through that prism
Of like this specific matchup
And you know
Like the program through the years
because it also emphasizes
how differently
this team is built on defense.
I mean, they have a lot of resources
on the defensive line,
but this is not a defense
that is built front to back.
Right.
And in this particular matchup,
where we are used to seeing,
you know,
the old cartoons we would have
on the Philadelphia Eagles website of scared Eli,
because that's what he looked like
against the fierce Eagles pass rush.
right now that that day feels a long time ago
and that's what I'm saying
now these two teams play again in two weeks
I'm going to just say this wild
the Eagles is a big part that Danny
I'm not in New York anymore
you know it's just like
today just have you
this man was back there
baking cookies
pancakes
and throwing football
it's just like this is not
and like cuttily flipping them
to Kim Skadabo and then you know
they're brother
I'm just dancing in the end zone.
Like, we do the next time you like.
Come on, y'all.
Fran, I got a question for you.
What the hell is going on with the kick return game?
I mean,
Tank Bigsby, you know, Muff's one.
A.J. Dillon puts one out of bounds.
I mean, it's not good.
I've never seen anything like this.
And they spent,
they spent two draft picks on Bigsby and went out of their way to let everybody know,
like he's here to be a kick returner,
even though that's not something that he majored in
when he was in Jacksonville or,
majored in over the course of his three-year career at Auburn.
And that has not gone well.
Two picks, two day three picks spent on that position.
When they went then two weeks later, went and signed Xavier Gibson, who has been like
a pro-bo quality returner over the course of his career here in the NFL.
And he has not seen the field in this role yet either here with the Eagles.
Would you believe seeing where the Eagles are in terms of average starting field position
according to true media.
It's got to be the worst.
It is not the worst.
28th.
It is the second worst.
Only the Las Vegas Raiders
have a worse
average starting field position
on the season
than the Eagles
at the 26.9 yard line.
Which, by the way,
like that is a
fact that you're talking about
quarterback in Gino Smith
who has like turned the ball over a bunch
and so like field position
can get super weird there
and you have a quarterback
in Jalen Hertz
who has only thrown one pick
all year. And so like you would think,
all right, the field position battle won't get too won't get too wonky
there. So I think that speaks even worse
to the kick return.
What do you do?
Can I ask you a question?
We've got AJ Dylan dropping a kickoff return.
We've got AJ Dylan taking like
receiver reps at the end of the game
as a third down running back. What happened to Will Shipley?
Will Shipley. Yep.
Good question. He's healthy.
Yeah. Those are the things he's supposed.
supposed to be able to do. He was the highest drafted running back since like Lashon McCoy,
I believe, I feel like we said that a lot last year. How is A.J. Dilling getting that role?
Yeah, no question. I think that is a viable, viable question. And I think when you're looking
at Chippley, like that, that's what you, you drafted him in the fourth round to be that type of
presence because, you know, I had questions about, oh, can he be like a real like three down
backup? Like, is he going to be like what A.J. Dylan, you know, can be in terms of between the
tackles and, you know, sustaining what, you know, carries in terms of playing through contact.
I don't know about that, but this guy plays in space.
He can catch the ball really, really well.
He can return kicks like that.
That should be, to me, like that was his role coming out of Clemson.
And I know that there were people in the building that felt that way as well.
So for him to not be the primary, you know, target getter there.
Curious for sure.
Well, he's also looked good when he's played.
He's looked fine.
And in the summary looks good.
So I just like, get him on the field.
I think the other big thing too, man, like I was looking at this before I jumped on.
This is the most, this is the most expensive offense in the NFL by a wide margin, like $30 million more than second.
Wow.
Like so to have and it's, you know, after that, it's one of those classic like, oh, the difference between one and two is the same as between like two and 17.
It's like one of those kind of situations there where this, they have a lot of money.
And we know like we talked about a lot this off season.
Money is not like flowing the way that it was, you know, four or five years ago in that organization.
So if you're putting that money down, if you're putting that much into the bank for this offense, for this unit,
you're getting this kind of outcome where it's below average in every metric across the board.
If it's not downright bad in certain metrics across the board, to get that kind of output,
I don't think there are going to be a lot of happy campers on the second floor over the November.
And that is also why we spent all offices talking about draft investment on that.
that side of the ball. You got to flip it eventually. You know, who are the young, homegrown players
on offense right now? I mean, Jalen and Devante, but they're mid-career now, right? Like,
Juergens is mostly on the offensive line. There's, yeah, those guys are mid-career. There's
nobody. I mean, you can't draft everybody. They're happy to have Jihad Campbell. He looks awesome.
But it's not an ideal team building situation right now. No.
And look, and it worked for them a year ago.
And so I think it's like one of those, you know, all right, well, we'll do it one more year.
And then maybe next year we'll be able to kind of flip this.
But again, like they've dealt draft picks in the last couple months that's taken away from, you know, some of those resources that you would have next spring to be able to backfill on that side of the ball.
So, yeah, it's going to be a tight needle to thread.
As we've talked about the last couple of weeks, I don't think this Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown thing is going away.
I'm fascinated to see if
Jaylen gets asked about AJ's comments tonight
and what that looks like,
it's not good.
We asked Vinny this earlier.
If Howie Roseman's already making calls
around the league right now,
what's the more pressing need?
Defensive Edge Group or a cornerback too?
Because they're a marriage.
I think Edge is a bigger issue right now.
I think they're both,
they're both issues,
but I think the pass rush
is a bigger issue where that will help
the corners out a little bit more.
you could go either way, and I don't think they would turn down a corner.
You did just give up a draft pick for Jacorian Bennett.
You know, so there could be something there, I guess.
But, you know, right now, and this is how I kind of felt, you know, back in the summer,
they have three number four corners on the team right now.
You know, I think that when you're looking at that group, it's playing out that way.
It's still a little early for him, but do you have any just like gut reaction of which
might be the better pool to draw from around NFL?
trade deadline.
Well, the problem is, is that they are not the only team looking for pass rush.
And that's usually the case.
You know, usually the contenders are all looking for pass rush.
You want to try and fortify that group.
But I know, like, just this week, you know, you're seeing headlines on social media for
like, oh, the Bucks are looking for a pass rush.
The 49ers down both are looking for a pass rusher.
The Chicago Bears are looking for a pass rush.
The Lions are looking for a pass rusher.
Like, everybody's looking for rush.
And I don't know that the supply is going to meet that demand.
That'll be something to follow.
I mean, like he said, you got to go get one of those teams that struggling right now is looking for picks.
You know, rather it's the jets.
They have some pass rushes on there, some young guys on there.
They might be ready to move off off, you know, that we can use.
Even last week's game, we see that defensive line in Denver.
They totally dominated.
You know, they have some guys over there.
But we definitely need to get a pass rush.
And fast.
Maybe they're not looking for draft picks,
and maybe they're looking for offensive skill talent.
All right.
And with that,
we will close Franz Phil and Matt.
Fran, who would you rather trade, AJ or Jalen?
He's not answering.
I'm not prepared to answer.
But I think skill talent makes it pretty clear.
All right, Fran.
We will talk to you tomorrow at 2 o'clock on the P.H.O.I. Eagles podcast.

Back in the PHLY Eagles post-game show following the Eagles,
embarrassing, 34 to 17 loss to the New York Giants,
your super chats, let's get to them, let's hear them.
Pat Fienis always in the chat, we love that.
Is it an overreaction to question the Jihad Campbell pick?
There wasn't an edge rush.
that could have helped them more.
To me, I don't think you question the pick
because when you're at 31,
if you get someone who you think can be an elite player,
you do it, and Jahad Campbell looks very good.
So I think you're fine.
But to me, the opportunity cost is not an edge rusher.
It would have been an offensive lineman.
That's how I feel.
I think I would have rather, if not Jahad Campbell,
use that pick.
you know, Josh Simmons is the player who goes there.
They probably don't make that,
the Chiefs don't make that deal
if you're going to draft Josh Simmons,
but an offensive lineman is what I think
this team is missing at that caliber of player.
I think that's what they're going to go this year,
drive. I think so too.
Yeah, I worry if the season goes south, like, lanes.
Definitely.
I think they definitely will go
office linemen, but I also think
we're still going to win division.
Okay.
I do.
I strongly, strongly.
You're giving me some life there, Benny.
I'm spiraling tonight.
Tonight's real bad.
This type of weeks is where the, you know,
the we all we got, we all we need stuff come from.
They ignore the noise.
Okay.
With a little bit of, everybody loves a cinema
with a little bit of hiccup in the movie.
You know, this is the...
Yeah, you got to get knocked back down to get back up.
Yeah, you know what me?
You mean to be the antagonist?
I'll be the antagonist.
And let's not forget that this,
they are the world.
and, you know, there's been
in two Super Bowls.
So they'll figure it out,
you know, you got to figure it out. Sometimes, you know.
But maybe it's just an every other year thing.
Yeah.
Damn.
They're a leap year team.
Although they're an odd number team.
Yeah, they're an odd number of season team.
Or even years.
Even years.
Yeah, 24, 22.
Also, I mean, they won the Super Bowl last year.
how much time does that by them?
Are they like, can we get upset the next year?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Listen to how spoiled we are in chat.
This is like the first time, a long time we lost back to back games.
It's been a long time.
Pulling out your hair.
It feels like, ah, you know, but I let you get back to the super chats.
Okay.
Yeah.
Oh, we don't have them up.
Sorry, Julia.
And the DJ is working his way
on getting with us as well.
Super Chat from
Roheet says
2018 part two.
Well, the only
the biggest thing
that this season has in common with
2018 is that Vinnie Curry is not in the locker room.
We were right there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Great books prof.
Eagles start every drive from their own
11, WTF.
I mean, it's a problem.
Yeah, I mean, it is crazy.
It's insane.
They have had like six times this season.
A guy just dropped the ball.
That's why I tweeted that.
WTF.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm with you.
Like throw Will Shibley back there next Sunday.
I mean, just a second.
Somebody catch the ball.
Juan Pablo Martin Riba.
Riba.
Jamie.
We are going to be okay.
Oh, thanks, Juan Pablo.
the APMR
I really want to believe you
and I it's a super chat of a hot
I think it's more likely than not
that they pull out of this
but I do have concerns
about three seconds what's their record at the end of the season
one
10 and 7
okay Vinnie three seconds
one two
oh
786
okay
bow three seconds
one two
three five and 12
Brandon Martin
We need to make a statement to the team
If you have to trade AJ or bench Jalen for a game
We need to show that this performance doesn't fly
Ever
Man could you imagine
The equivalent of like sending Jalen down the triple A
For the game
We're just going to give Tanner a start
Let Jailen you know
Give him the Deshawn Jackson
Delaware State for you
Never gonna have
That is very funny
I appreciate the energy behind that
Matthew Watson
when winning wasn't enough after week four,
it stopped.
It sounds like they almost sound like what I was saying earlier.
Yeah.
You know, when we win everyone,
I want to see this.
I want to see that.
Yes.
Now we just want to see the win.
Dinkleberg.
Nick already shaved his head last year.
The ante has to be higher now.
What do we think?
Full body shave.
Ooh, Nair.
Yeah.
I just, yeah.
Eyebrows like they did to Avanti,
Alex when he was a rookie?
They shave his eyebrows?
Yes.
That's my stuff.
Half beard?
Half beard.
That was my laziest Halloween costume in college.
It was half man.
So, like, I had, like, a shirt that was cut in half.
Shaved half my face.
Terrible job.
Yeah, but is there any pictures of half-man?
I'm about to say, I wish we had some pictures of that.
I don't think they're, I don't think they're out there.
We weren't in college in the camera.
Yeah, this was in, this was in Australia.
Oh, nice.
How much you think Kevin Petula starts feeling it?
He's been feeling it.
Sorry, how much worse does it get?
If he didn't have a pep in his damn step, then we're not doing a good enough job.
Yeah.
What's wrong with him?
All right, Vinnie, let's get to the beef of the week.
Tough picking this week.
we need a lineman from you
this is of course presented by our friends
at righteous fillen
at righteous felon they give the beef of the week
it's like their employee of the week
we give it to an offensive or defensive lineman
who are you going to give it to
that OG Hickory was delicious
you could go
Jordan Davis
Patrick Johnson had a sack
Jordan Davis I think
you called him out earlier
Cam Juergens
was not his worst tonight
yeah Elaine didn't give up a
sack.
Lane didn't give up a sack.
I either would.
Can I split my beef for the week?
Vinny?
For you?
Yeah.
You can do it.
Listen,
let me give both of y'all half and half of the,
what you were with the Hickory?
I already ate it.
Yeah.
We got more than half.
You don't go Lane Johnson.
O.G.
Okay.
So O.G. Hickory for Lane.
O.G.
Hickory for Lane.
And then Jordan Davis.
Because he plead has some good running stops when he was on first and second down.
And he rushed the passer well a little bit.
And he did.
So.
those do my beef for the week
Jordan Davis I'm going to give the soul
survivor because he's the only
Georgia defensive lineman left
standing right now. Soul survivor's good.
Yes, I agree.
Yeah. There it is. Your righteous felon
beef of the week.
Let's take another break
so that we can be joined
on the Xfinity Mobile column.
I'm very curious. I'm very curious.
To hear how this locker room is. E.J. Smith.
Me too. I'm curious to see
what Jaila had to say.

We are back on the PHLY Eagles podcast.
Let's ring, ring, dial up the XFinity Mobile call-in line and listen to our Eagles insider, E.J. Smith.
E.J. How you doing?
Oh, fucking talk from the field.
What's up, guys?
I mean, I shouldn't be smiling.
Yeah, I shouldn't be smiling.
I know.
Tough night for Philadelphia sports.
What happened?
It's weird.
It looks like you're not walking.
You're just going side to side.
I'm trying to find a nice, quiet spot for you guys.
He sounds great.
We can do it.
We can walk a talk.
Yeah.
Yeah, Vinny, don't you like that cardigan he's got?
That's nice.
I like that thing.
That cashmere?
It's not Casimir.
I didn't play in the league, Vinny.
I don't got Cashmere, my.
E.J.
Was it a happy locker room?
No, I mean, I'll be honest.
Like, it wasn't maybe as, as dejected as you would have expected.
But, I mean, we did get some interesting answers from some,
from some of the players of Nick Siriani.
So yeah, definitely you could tell this is a team that's lost twice in four days.
But, you know, I think that there was some messaging that they're going to be able to get up off the mat here.
E.J., you sent us the video of A.J. Brown talking.
I have a feeling this one's going to go kind of wild.
I watched it.
I'm in show.
It looks like he's half kidding, maybe half serious.
I couldn't really get a good read on it.
What was your interpretation of it?
Yeah, my interpretation of it is that he doesn't really want.
want to talk about it. But I think that, listen, his answer leaves it open for interpretation.
That is the nature of how he answered it, to not really acknowledge that it happened, to say
you really didn't know what we were talking about. So, you know, again, I understand why it's going
to make the rounds. I understand why it's not going to be received well, but I do think the general
like purpose that AJ had with his answer was to just kind of get past it. Yeah, I mean, he could
have just said, yeah, I don't want to talk about that. But yeah. Right. Right.
Yeah, I mean, this is ongoing.
You know, I think that we didn't make a whole lot of the meeting
because we didn't really know what the outcome would be.
And I think you can tell after tonight that this is going to be a thing.
You know, it's going to remain a thing.
So am I being dramatic, E.J., because, you know, watching it once,
I interpreted it as this is much worse than maybe we all know about.
Yeah, it depends on how you want to look at it.
And I, listen, I think that alarm bells are ringing.
You know, this is the widest margin of defeat the Eagles have had since the
2020-3 season.
I think that's, honestly, it's fitting.
You know, I think that they're, this was a real test for this team on how they
would respond to adversity.
And to play the way that they did, I do think that there's a lot of valid concerns
to cut out of this game.
Nick Seriiani kind of chose to go the other way.
And I'm curious to hear what you guys think of this.
He said that they've been here before, you know, that they were four and two this time
last year as well.
And obviously they came out of it.
So I do find it a little bit interesting.
You know, Nick Siriani said a lot over the last few months.
And really since the Super Bowl that they're not going to talk about 2024,
this was a time before he mentioned it to try and get his team out of this route that they find themselves in.
So it really is, it's kind of like you can choose to look at it like 2024.
They have a biweek coming up and maybe that'll give them an opportunity to get this thing back on the rails.
But I do think that there's some valid concern about the way that they responded to adversity today.
Yeah, listen, they are able to, they are capable of turning this around.
They are able to turn this around.
They get this little mini buy, you know, they, they feel like they found their identity after the buy last year around this same time.
That is all very possible.
They need to prove it.
Like, yeah.
It's, it's, it's going to get interesting otherwise.
What did Jalen have to say after this game, E.J.?
Yeah, Jalen was accountable, as you would expect,
said that on the interception, it was just a bad ball,
said that, you know, he needs to play better.
He talked about the autonomy that he has with the line of scrimmage,
which I found interesting, saying that, you know,
the Eagles' offensive struggles,
that's something that he takes accountability for
because of the autonomy that he has.
So, yeah, I mean, I think that's kind of Jaylen's, you know,
playbook is that, you know, look inward is what he'll say a lot of.
But, but, no, he definitely,
you know, took this loss.
I think he did take a lot of accountability for the loss.
You know, and I think it's valid.
You know, it's warranted that you think about,
he said that they were,
that they were 10 points down when he missed that deep shot to Devante.
I believe that they were three points down.
Correct.
At that point in the game.
So, you know, this is a second week in a row that it was a miscue on a deep shot
that really could have changed the game.
And this one, I think you really,
you have a hard time not laying it at the feet of Jalen.
And just for the record, guys,
Devante did not speak.
He said he had to go to the trainer.
after the game.
He did look a little gimpy at one point.
Yeah, no, he had a, I think the broadcast caught that they had a trainer working on his ankle.
Yeah, the DeVante throw is just, I mean, he's got to make that throw.
And then the interception, I mean, listen, his first interception of the season, he's allowed to throw interceptions.
That particular one, as Fran broke down for us earlier in the show, was pretty glaring, pretty galling.
Yeah, I mean, especially, I'm, I'm excited to see Fran's breakdown, but,
It did look like he had AJ Brown on a deep crosser.
AJ said that it looked like Jaylen was reading the man side of the progression
and not the zone side, which is where AJ was.
But still, I mean, the misses really stand out the last two weeks, especially, I mean, the interception less so,
but because of how they had an opportunity to really swing the game.
And yet, while the offense has been the bigger problem all season in this game,
here we go, E.J.
Well, yeah, why don't we just open it up? Would you like to apologize for instance?
Well, wait, let's preface this with Quinyan wasn't in the majority of this game.
Yeah, you know, to me, the defense, it's like we talked last week about, is Quinyan Mitchell or Jalen Carter, the most important member of this defense?
They were without both of those guys, and I think it showed.
You know, I think that that's, it can be that simple.
Obviously, you like to see them play better.
I think that's, I think that is, I think that is two excuse making.
Yeah, I don't know.
I mean, to me, it's like, I'm not trying to excuse the defense.
They didn't play well today.
I'm not, I don't want to do this again for a second week in a row.
But I do think that, you know, the, like, they lost probably the two players that they could
afford to lose the least.
I was going to say that the two best players.
They gave up 34 points.
They had their worst defensive performance under Vic Fangio against a bunch of jabronies.
So what?
They were down their two best players.
Look who was on the Giants.
This was against little Jordan.
Humphrey. No, it's, it's worrying, I would say. The way the defense played in this game,
but at the same time, if you tell me that Coynehan and Jalen Carter are back next, when they come
off the other side of this mini-buye, I'm not as worried about the defense as I am the
off. Okay. Is it going to be Jalen Carter from last year or Jalen Carter from last week?
No, no, it's a fair question. It's a fair question. But even Jalen Carter from last week,
at least commands attention and respect.
E.J, were you at the...
I can't believe how soft you are on the defense.
They got pushed around by Kim Scataboo.
To me, I do think that the offense is just a bigger story right now.
They have so much talent and they are underperforming.
E.J., one of those...
Were you at the Elaine Johnson scrum?
I was. Yeah.
Okay. His comments about we were winning the first four games but not dominating.
Kind of jumps out at me at maybe a larger concern.
maybe I'm being too dramatic again,
but about the direction of this offense.
No, I mean,
I think that Lane is always a very honest
evaluator of where things are.
And yeah,
you talked about the fact that they weren't dominating games.
And I think that's really just a reflection
of the way the offensive line has looked.
And I think that that's a fair assessment.
And I mean, is it concerning?
I think at this point, like,
I want to see what the offensive line looks like
on the other side of the biweek.
You know, I want to see once these guys get a chance
to catch your breath a little bit
to see if they can recover
some of what they had last season.
You know, Sequin after today
said that he's tired of talking about
how close they are.
You know, he's tired of coming out
after the end of the games and saying like,
oh, man, we're so close to it.
And I understand that.
But the thing that stood out to me from Lane
is that he talked about their predictability.
And, you know, he talked about it
in the context of like on first down.
They're struggling in a run game,
which puts them in a third and long situation,
makes them predictable.
but we see these equals offense and it is predictable.
You know, it just is.
You know, they don't run a lot of concepts
and I think they've gotten away with that for a while
because of how talented they are.
And right now they're not winning
their individual matchups enough to be this, you know,
I mean, one dimensional is probably not the right word,
but, you know, to be this overly simplistic at times.
So, you know, you don't really get a good answer from these guys.
I don't think that they have a great,
I don't think they have the answer for why,
they are so prone to these prolonged stretches
with these three in outs
and just not being able to get anything going
in the second half.
But it's definitely something that a lot of the guys
talked about today is something that they need to fix.
Well, I'll tell you what, though, E.
Jackson Dart looked like somebody that used to be in Philadelphia
and at who they play coming up.
Oh, you think, you got, you're doing the Carson Wentz comparison.
I'm just saying, you can't miss tackles on him.
I see some Jalen Hurts.
in his game. I'm not going to lie.
I can see it.
I can see that he emulated him.
I'm with you on Carson Wentz.
He's he's like Carson Wentz before the ghosts got to him.
I think he's more athletic than Carson.
He was impressive tonight.
I mean, I'm just talking.
I'm just talking straight before the injury.
Yeah, that's fair.
Yeah, no, I mean, he's playing well.
You know, the Eagles defense was without some top guys, obviously,
but no, he looks good.
I mean, Vic said it going into the game.
Like the Giants got them.
the quarterback and you know the Eagles learned out the hard way today. I think I think the
predictability in offenses is a real serious issue and you know there are there are things I've heard that
I can't substantiate about like defenses specifically calling out the plays that are coming but
it's very interesting in conjunction with Jalen talking about the autonomy that he has at the line
and you have to wonder if this is a game plan thing
or this is a Jalen thing about the things that he is going to
at the line are those what are predictable for defenses
or is it the plays coming in, you know,
with eight seconds left on the play clock?
Yeah, I think it's probably a little bit of both.
You know, I think that there are probably instances
where the autonomy that Jalen alludes to contributes to the predictability.
but I mean, he's only operating off of a menu that is set for him from Kevin Petullo and Nick Siriani.
You know, he talks about how there's a different cook in the kitchen, right?
So I think that it's probably maybe a microcosm of what the Csgo's offense's identity has been for the last few years
and that they just haven't really been able to get away with it as much as they have.
Again, like they were predictable last season, but they just beat guys up at the point of attack and it didn't matter.
you know, and they're not doing that this season.
And you see the, you know, the double-edged sword that that can be at times.
How do you feel? How do I feel?
Yeah.
Sorry, I thought I froze.
You see my like, was that the headnot?
Have you walked the perimeter of the field?
Not the whole perimeter.
I just, I'm trying to avoid the paint truck.
Well, you're really moving around.
I just am curious if you've walked all the way around.
Well, I'm only on one side.
I'm on the giant sideline.
This is where Brian Dayball was getting into it with the athletic trailer.
I was just going to say, E.J., did you catch it on the TV, the heated exchange on the sideline?
I did.
I was hoping it would be on the other side line.
On the sideline, yeah.
Well, I mean, Siriani was heatedly yelling at Tank Bigsby.
Don't do this, Jamie.
This is beneath you.
What's what they need to decide.
Let's hear what the professor has to say.
Okay.
No chance.
on that. E.J., what the hell is going on with the kick return game?
You know, this has been a thing. And you know what? I'm glad you asked me this, Jamie,
because I wanted to talk to Bo about something, and this is a good opportunity to do it.
You know, when they traded for Tank Bigsby, I came on and I told you what my understanding was
about the Tank Bigsby trained. And you were like, this is ridiculous. There's no way they traded
two picks for this guy to be the only returner. Yeah, we were both.
You want to apologize to me. We were both correct. You were right that that's what they thought. And I was
right that that was dumb. Yeah. No, okay, I can, I can accept that because I agree. Like, he is not really,
he's not factored in at all on offense. And I mean, at this point, they're going to have to go with
different, different guys at that position because like he has been bad enough for Nick Serionity
yell at him on the sideline. So, yeah, no, I mean, I mean, they claim the guy off waivers who's a
return specialist and he can't get on the field. What are they doing? Well, we'll see. He might be on the
field for the next game.
Yeah. And frankly, Tank Bigsby can take AJ Dylan's running back reps as far as I'm concerned.
It is such a like, and Nick Siriani talked about this. Like this was like an uncharacteristic
game for them. You know, like Nick, to pull people behind my curtain a little bit with Nick,
like he talks a lot about the questions he asks himself after games. And one of them is did
the team play with great detail and great fundamentals? And really across all three phases tonight,
you could not say that they did. You know, the kick return game.
game was bad. Obviously the defense, you know, really struggled. And then offensively, they just
didn't have like the attention to the end of half sequence with Jalen sliding and seeming like
you didn't think that they, or seeming like you thought they had a timeout left. You just, it was,
it just was like a very uneagles like performance, at least, you know, this last, you know,
these last 18 months or so, you just don't see the Eagles make those types of mistake. I think
that's one of the more concerning things is like, these are things that Nick Harps on. And like,
they just were not sharp on them today.
I also was saying that the defense tonight just looked super young.
Yeah.
Super young.
They look like in disbelief, I can't tell you the last time the Giants score
that many touchdowns in the first half against the Eagles.
I know I keep going back to it.
I really like that.
Facts are the facts.
They just look super young.
Yeah.
No, I mean, you look at Keeley-Ringold.
out there and sometimes like it seems like the game really speeds up for him.
And I think that that was kind of an illustrative for the group as a whole.
So I mean, you would like to see like Zach Bond really step up in those scenarios.
And obviously he got caught in no man's land on that Jackson Dart scramble.
But again, yeah, it's just it was just not.
I think that they just really miss some leadership, you know, at certain levels.
And I think that that's where like Jalen Carter and Quinion Mitchell, they're young players,
but like their play kind of sets the tone for the group.
E.J.
we asked Fran this earlier.
I think Bo asked Vinnie originally.
Howie Roseman's clearly going to make some trades because there's there's help needed.
If you had your choice, defensive edge group or cornerback too, who's E.J. Smith pushing all in for?
Probably an edge guy, especially if you tell me that they're like solid on early downs.
I just think like we saw even on like the Jackson Darts scramble, like the same pressure.
like the sim pressure stuff like they have been effective with it but it's like if you have to build
the whole the whole pass rush around that you're going to invite some risk you know it's not
it's not ideal to just not be able to trust your guys to win and then in the run game i thought that
their edge rusher group really got pushed around so i think if you told me that they could get an
edge guy that is just an every down edge guy i think you i think you'd probably lean that way i mean
like adori jackson and keely wringo like obviously it's not ideal but i think you can
get by with one of those guys if you told me they were going to get more pressure and they were
going to be better on early downs against the run. So tank Biggsby for Trey Hendrickson is what you're
saying. There you go. You actually thought Adory Jackson was fine tonight. I agree. Yeah, no,
I completely agree. I thought he. Honestly, like, I thought it was a, I think he might be. It was an interesting,
like, you know, seeing both of those guys in the same game again, it's like, you sort of evaluate,
like, okay, who should start, you know, in the, I guess the Vikings. And honestly, I think
of Dori Jackson played well enough to be in that conversation.
Philly again, it's just like, it seems like he has these stretches where it just really starts
to unravel for him.
You know, if he has a good game, it kind of feels like the momentum builds for him.
If he starts to struggle, it just kind of like, it seems like it spirals.
Yeah, I think that's right.
And I think you're right about the edge thing there, EJ, where not only do they,
not only do they need an edge guy to help fix the pass rush, they also need an edge guy to let
Vic play the way he wants to play.
Like he doesn't want to have to be blitzing this much
and sending this many creative sim pressures
because he wants to let the four guys get home.
I mean, we saw it last year that he's still, you know,
you can have Zach Bonn add to the rush and all these things,
but that's not ideal.
And so if they can, if they could add somebody
who could allow him to play the way he wants to play,
you know, that would also help.
Hendrickson would be perfect.
I mean, because he's an effort guy.
He's got a high motor.
like yeah no I mean that'll be interesting uh all right EJ last thing I relayed the story but now that
we have you you've got to give us you got to give us your eyes paint the picture for us about what
you saw down uh down in the tunnel so it's this guy he's wearing a Kelly green Seekwan
Berkeley jersey right and there's blood there's a blood that's great yeah there's blood on the
two because he's gotten roughed up by the police officer.
You know, I guess he made me run on the field.
I don't know, but got roughed up by the police officer.
He's got, you know, he's got blown on his jersey.
Okay, police brutality.
This guy looks like he's been through the ringer.
You know, he definitely looks like he had a rough night, you know,
watch the Eagles lose, got in trouble with the law.
He's got his handcuffed.
He's walking through the ballast of the stadium.
And he walks by all of us.
And he turns and he goes, Zach, I just love your work.
And Zach, you know, of course, you know how Zach, oh, thank you.
It's a lot.
Thank you so much.
Yeah.
That means a lot.
That means a lot.
And the guy hurts the police officer escorting him through the hallways and goes, that's a
permit.
Like the police officer is going to go, oh, okay, well, now let me just set you free so
you can meet your hero.
So, Zach was very flattered.
He was very flattered.
I think he enjoyed it.
That is perfect.
I mean, I mean, I feel like an intrepid reporter would interview that young man.
I mean, you'd have to like ask the police off, but I mean, hey, it was Zach Berman.
Yeah, that's great. That's awesome.
All right, E.J., what are we going to be reading tomorrow on the early bird?
I know you got a long night ahead of you.
You got a long time back, too.
This is going to be a tough one for you.
No, what we live for, Beau, right?
This is the job.
I mean, given the pace, you're walking around that field.
you might just walk home.
I got to stay warm, right?
I went I went cardigan, not sweater.
You'll be reading about, you know,
the Eagles ball offensive players, especially
kind of making sense of this game.
And I'll probably try and get some of the 23 panic.
I'll try to address some of that in the early burn.
So be sure to read that 5 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Well, everybody become a diehard so you can read that.
Thank you very much.
E.J. Smith and our Eagles insider.
We love you.
All right.
Thanks,
I'm going to see you,
Jay.
Thanks,
Jay.
All right,
we got one more
piece of business
here.
And that is
the ACE
hardware temperature check.
That's right.
The temperature check.
Now,
I don't know what's the
I think it's hot.
Yeah,
bad way.
Well,
I can't tell you,
do we go like
it's like
really,
really,
really hot
or it's like
really,
really cold.
What's?
I think it's really hot.
Well,
because I'd rather be
cold than hot.
Cold as ice.
I get real grumpy
when I sweat.
Like,
if I don't
have AC, I'm miserable.
My wife and kids can tell you, like,
when I, I just get grumpy and, like, pissed.
It makes me irritable.
Yeah, I'm with him.
So I'd rather be cold.
So I think, I think the Eagles locker room is hot.
They need to turn.
I think, yeah, there's some sweating going on.
Yeah.
Julia, why is that so funny?
You think this is a girl I want to make you sweat,
so you can't sweat no more kind of situation?
Yeah.
Okay.
Oh, you think it's cold.
Yeah, Julia thinks they're ice cold on offense.
Vinnie, where do you weigh in on this?
The hot or cold?
It's getting hot in the kitchen.
It's getting hot in the kitchen.
It's too hot in the kitchen.
Get out.
Can't stand the heat.
Get out of the kitchen.
That's what I was looking for.
I mean, AJ might be saying, get me out of this kitchen.
That's only presupposes that he hasn't said that already.
I think there's a scenario where that already happened.
That has been your ace hardware temperature check.
Things are hot or cold, depending on your perspective.
But like, did you see how AJ was like joking about it?
Like he's clearly trying to joke through it.
But it was like me tonight laughing through the pain.
Because this was epically just like a horrible night from, look, I'm a zambonner.
I don't care that much about the flyers.
It's a regular, like the Phillies collapse, like epically bad.
that I laughed through that second half because it was so bad I just had to like
laugh my way through it because the reality of it was so bleep that I don't want to
live in that so I just Jamie give me the Phillies player who's like aura and personality
you would like to bring to the Eagles and vice versa
Ooh.
Man, there's so many bad Phillies right now.
Yeah, but a good one.
Who's the...
I think Harrison Bader's...
Oh, interesting.
Energy would be good for the Eagles right now.
Okay.
I think I already got a lot of white guys.
Well...
Christopher Sanchez.
Yeah.
Or maybe Rangers calls.
Ranger.
Ranger.
You could use some Ranger.
The Eagles could use some Ranger.
And we're probably never going to see him again.
in the Phillies uniform, that's sad.
Yeah.
Yeah, I would go with, I would go with Ranger.
Okay, and who could the Phillies use from the Eagles?
They need a little bit of a,
they need a clutch performer.
I think they need Quignon.
Okay.
So it's Quinyang with you.
I am obsessed, can I say?
Vinny, uh, did you like it,
did you like a mini buy?
Yes.
What do you do?
Yeah, what do you do in these 10 days?
How many days off?
You get to check out?
Yeah, tomorrow I will like the hope that they do some recovery
and take care of themselves, but also look at the itself.
Mm-hmm.
In the mirror, they get ready to go on this stretch.
So what do you do on your NFL Sunday?
Are you watching games?
Are you ordering takeout?
You're spending it with the family?
You're getting together with boys, watching football.
Yeah, they're probably going to, you know, join themselves with their families on Saturday.
Sunday.
You're watching a little bit of football, but you're getting ready to get mentally back into it.
Is the group techs firing on a Sunday when you guys are off?
Like, are you guys watching the games?
After a night, like tonight?
Yeah, the group, group text is going crazy.
Group text is going crazy.
Just to reset it, the Eagles return to action a week from Sunday at Minnesota.
Oof, Brian Flores is the boogie, man.
It could be ugly.
This is...
I mean, we said this could be rock bottom.
Losing to Carson Wentz would be rock bottom.
Well, isn't there, there's a possibility,
JJ McCartney could be back, right?
And then the week after that,
they welcome this same Giants team to the link,
and that precedes the buy.
So that is what the Eagles have ahead of them in the next.
If they lose to Minnesota
and the Giants come into Philadelphia and win,
season is over.
It won't happen.
Impossible.
It's impossible.
But it's not a non, it's a non-zero percent.
chance.
Yeah, of course.
I mean, that Minnesota defense is good.
Justin Jefferson's going to be a nightmare.
Ryan Flores scares me.
There's like a 20% chance of that happening.
I don't have all the confidence in the world
that they're going to beat the Giants again.
I mean, I think they will.
A couple of super chats from Chase Daniel Plainview
who says, is Jalen good enough to run a top receiver out of town?
That was the question that I asked.
It's a million dollar question.
Vinny, did you want to come around to that one yet?
Vinnie's answer is
Xavier Gibson
Caledelphia
Birds fan
so much for the important meeting
after the Denver loss anyways
what needs to change the most
offense defense are both
we can't push all season
I don't know what the right answer is there
I'm going to say defense and special teams
they've got to fix back there
EJ kind of said offense
I think the offense
I think the offense needs to change more
because the offense has most of its players right now.
It's more veteran, it's more established, it's more expensive, it's more, it's got all the moors.
But I think you're right, Vinnie, that the defense, it's missing a little bit of juice.
Juice and like the nastiness.
Yeah.
You're allowed to have a bad game.
Sure.
The Thursday nights are weird.
But boy was that ugly.
I wonder how I feel tomorrow morning waking up, like,
digesting everything that happened.
I wonder if I feel worse or if it's just like, okay,
flush the turd, we're moving on.
I don't know.
After a long like this, I'll probably,
when we was playing,
a couple of us probably wasn't getting no sleep.
Yeah.
Live texting.
You up?
Yeah, I'm still.
Would you guys watch tape, like, immediately after something like this?
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
And it's crazy.
You can ask him this week.
I will let BG watch it first.
Okay.
Then I will say, yo, is it that bad to watch?
Ask him.
He'll tell you, what I'm telling you.
He'll tell you.
And then I will watch it.
But then we also, you know, you watch it like that,
then you love to watch with the group first.
Okay.
You should tell if it's going to be hot or cold with a gym.
Okay.
You're going to break something in here.
Right.
but most of the times that we never had
pretty nice like this
in the very, very beginning
in the first year we did.
A lot of nights like this.
16, yep.
Then next year we come over once in a football.
Well, that's exactly right.
I never know what it's gonna happen.
All right, well, that'll do it
for the PHAY Eagles post game show.
I think we already got the one.
Just a disastrous
night of Philadelphia sports.
The Eagles?
I mean, man.
I want to come to 34 to 17 to the Giants.
Yeah, that's pretty bad.
And Jackson, too.
He's so...
I thought he played pretty well tonight.
He did.
He's got a little bit of the juice.
Yeah, I mean, certainly, like, the bromance with him and Skataboo.
Yeah, it's gross.
And did you see...
Yeah, I like that.
Ryan...
Ryan Fitzpatrick and Scataboo took their shirts off and chest bumped on the post game.
Come on.
fits that's cute yeah oh it's your guy yeah what you doing chest bumping with scataboo
