Hello, everybody and welcome to the PHAY Eagles post-game show live from the Xfinity Mobile Studio and presented by Ashley. Following the Eagles heartbreaking, 24 to 21 loss in the second preseason game. We've got a lot to talk about. What's going on with the quarterbacks? How about the Camp Crush flashing on a big stage? Carson Steele showing some hops. white men can jump apparently much more to talk about get into all the things that we saw from the guys fighting for roster spots with you see him in the middle the big man the eagle's insider

e.J. Smith you see him on the right or the left I guess depending on where you're watching from the great Fran Duffy I think it's all I think it's everybody's right it's right to your left I don't know sometimes it gets flipped who knows let's get into it the big ticket who was sent by Xfinity, Lindsay with a little chicanery. And let's get to the big topic here. The topic that I think as much as we would like to talk about Willie Lampkin and some of these other guys, the topic that's probably the most impactful for what happens with this Eagle season, potentially. What's going on with the battle for quarterback to?

Because we have seen all summer and in the spring, it has seemed like Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee are rotating basically every period. But Andy Dalton gets the start in this game. The second game in a row, so they did not rotate starters. Andy Dalton plays three series, goes three for 10 for 44 yards, misses a couple throws,

completes a dig to Darius Cooper. Then Tanner McKee comes in. They also remove the entire starting offensive line. So Tanner McKee is now playing behind all backups and plays deep into the fourth quarter, going 16 of 22 for 170. yards, two touchdowns. I think he didn't look quite as good as those numbers would tell you it looked.

However, it certainly seems E.J. Like they are positioning Andy Dalton to potentially be the backup quarterback. What do you think? Yeah, I think you could read it a couple of different ways, the fact that they had Tanner McKee out there for so long. That was the thing that surprised me is the fact that he played deep into the fourth quarter. Obviously, Col Payton only got that final series. Could you read it as they were trying to put it?

put Tanner McKee in the shop window, you know, they won opposing teams to see Tanner McKee for an extended period of time. I think you could read it that way or maybe it's, this is all smoking mirrors. Maybe this is the most elaborate hoax in the history of elaborate preseason hoaxes where they want you to think, oh, Andy Dalton's our number two and they'd be willing to trade him. So I think, you know, it's weird. I think is the thing we can all agree on. It was definitely a big surprise to see Tanner McKee play that deep into the game. I actually disagree. I thought he played pretty well. I thought he looked pretty good. I thought he played pretty well.

Yeah. Yeah. I think this was probably the best case he made to be the Eagles backup quarterback this year. You know, I think that this was about as good as we've seen him look in the summer. And if it were still, if it were me, he would be the backup quarterback. Like that's what I wrote. You can go to all p.h.i.com. I've got my stockup stock down.

I think he should be the backup quarterback. You looked a lot better than Andy Dalton. Diehard? What's that? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Become a diehard. So you get access to that end franz draft guide coming up on Monday.

very excited for that. But yeah, I think he should be the backup. I think that he showed tonight why he should be the backup, but the Eagles continue to kind of defy what, you know, we see from the outside world. Fran, what do you think? I mean, clearly Dalton was what didn't look good tonight, but you're also not making the decision based solely off of, you know,

one performance. And, you know, you would say that even if you're stacking what these guys have looked like over the course of the summer, Dalton has not looked particularly strong on the field. But it's also, you know, I would be remiss if I didn't say that being a backup quarterback is more about, or more than just what you look like on the field. There are other aspects to it. But there's no reason for us to think that Tanner McKee hasn't been, you know, serving those roles at a high level over the course of the last three years. So I'm going to stand by my assertion from a couple weeks ago.

I think that they are trying to position Andy Dalton as the, you know, either the QB2 or, you know, in the poll position for the QB2. in a legit battle for QB2 and that they are just trying to maintain any kind of leverage as a as a trade chip to try and get a seventh round pick this year or in 2028 or whatever it is. For Dalton?

That would be my read on it, yes. I don't know, man. There's, I don't think that they would do, the way that they handled it tonight, the reason I am so off of that is, is because they took out the,

they took out the whole offensive line. You know, Fred Johnson comes out, Drew Kendall comes out, Willie Lampkin got hurt, but Markell Bell comes out, Jake Majors has to stay in. And if you actually believe that Tanner McKee is your backup quarterback, you would be protecting him more than that.

And I think if you were shopping Tanner McKee, you would want to protect him more than that so that he looks better. You know what I mean? Yep. So the only two reads I can wrap my head around are one, they truly just don't think that at some point along the way, Tanner McKee lost their confidence.

They went out to the offseason wanting to do better than Tanner McKee. They think that they, they are hoping that they had that in Annie Dalton. And Tanner McKee is just a guy to them, is kind of persona non grata. And if they can, if they can flip them great, if not. whatever. The only other thing I can think of is that they feel like Tanner McKee needs needs to be challenged. Like they feel like they gave him number two last year.

And he needs to earn it this year. And they need to sort of knock him down a peg. It's kind of like a football guyism here. Like let's see how Tanner responds when we punch him in the mouth. And I can get behind him even playing a bunch tonight because he and Dalton have been splitting reps all summer. So he hasn't gotten the same amount of work that you would, normally get over the course of training camp.

I was going to say, what did the reps look like this week for him? It was split. Yeah. Pretty much down to do. Pretty much period by period. And I thought he had, I thought he was pretty good at practice on Wednesday, except for the final period. But I mean, I'm just, I write down on my notes, like the third in any Dalton possession, I don't want to watch this guy play football anymore.

Man, I cannot get there with believing that, that he's a better option. That's the thing I struggle with. What's going on? That's the thing I struggle. with with Dalton is again, I don't want to overreact to the preseason performances. He has had a long career. Like we are not going to overweight what he's looked like over the last two weeks. But with that said, like, does he fit the archetype of the Eagles backup quarterback? The franchise that values the backup quarterback position more than any other team in the league.

Like, he has not played even like, let's take the games out of it. This whole summer, he has not looked like the type of backup. We're used to seeing the Eagles have. So if they are trying to shop Tanner McKee, and I think you made a good point last week, friend like um tanner mckee's value is probably highest in march it's not going to be highest now unless you have a team that's in a really really bad quarterback situation that's willing to overpay i just i don't know if you go into into this season with andy dalton as your backup and you'd still feel like yeah he's one of the best backups in the NFL based off of the entire sample size what we've seen from him since he since they traded for it's also it's complicated because mckee is a free agent at the end of the season

yes so it's not like they are thinking that if they can you know, make him the number two that he can, he can be a cheap cost-controlled number two next year, which is kind of what we thought was going on last year and this year. I don't know if they would, if they have any interest in resigning him, but having to pay him real money, I doubt it.

So that would lead you to think that it's more of a flip situation, but wouldn't you, I don't know, it's very confusing to me. Because wouldn't you then want, and probably Cole Clayton plays like the whole game next week. is my guess, right? And maybe you know that ahead of time.

And so this is your chance to really give Tanner the most reps that he can get. And reps matter to him more than they do to Dalton because he's played in the league so much. I just, I'm so hung up on them taking out the offensive line. Like, you're throwing him to the wolves to some degree. It's weird. The Colpain of it all I wanted to hit on too. Like, if this is posturing from the Eagles, this is like some kind of, kind of message to the NFL to try and drum up trade interests in either of these guys.

I'm not to overstate it, but it's, it's unfair to Cole Payton to not really play him in this game. You know, I feel like if you feel like you have a good developmental player there, put him in the game in the fourth quarter. Is that really worth more than like, oh, we might be able to get a fourth for Tanner. They probably won't get a four. Might be able to get a five for Tanner McKee right now. If we, if we play him in the whole fourth quarter and he looks good, I just, I don't know. It's, it's the whole thing just confuses me. And I do think Col Payton gets like the short end of the stick tonight. Yeah, I mean, I do think they're planning on playing him the whole game, the third game.

So he'll get his, he'll get his time. It's just, I don't know, man, it's weird. What do you think in the comments? Let us know. This is very bizarre. A lot of hate for Andy Dalton, I see already. I mean, he didn't shower himself. And there were like three bad misses tonight.

Ty Robinson, two sacks tonight. We will get to the discussion of the players who we think move the needle in a little bit. Dinkleberg is back. The one team that should understand just how valuable the QB2 position is has somehow completely fumbled the QB2 situation this offseason. I don't know if they fumbled it. We'll see. Yeah, I think it's a, you know.

It's just a confusing. the whole situation. To me, this wouldn't have been confusing if they didn't draft Colpayton. I think they draft, when they drafted because they didn't know they were going to draft Colpaden. You know, they brought in a Dalton before that move. Right.

By bringing in Peyton, that makes it a crowded room. And it would have made it a little bit easier to kind of split reps and I have an understanding of what the pecking order was going to be. Now they're trying to set themselves up to try and make a move. So they're not just, you know, cutting their loss and wasting a draft pick and the move for Dalton try and get some value back from that. So they have to go through this awkward several weeks. So I think that's why we are where we are right now.

But if they go into the season with Dalton as the backup, like where does he rank? I don't think. Okay. All right. Where does he rank among the recent history of Eagles backup quarterbacks for you? It's got to be toward the bottom, right? Yeah.

That would be. Well, let's think about it. Let's stack rank it. All right. Let's do this exercise. You got McKee last year. You got Pickett. You got Marietta.

You got who was the super who was the 2020? Does the two deep have that? Shout out of the two deep. Why don't I know? Moving back you got you got McCown in there at some point. Obviously let's start with full 17.

That's you know full 17 18. 19 is McCown. Flacco was involved. Oh, it was. was Garner Minchu. Minchu. Monshu. Just got it.

And we're missing one guy. From which year? We're missing 2020. Or 2021. Oh, no, it was Hertz. Yeah. Jaylon was back in Montana. All right.

So let's take her. Okay. So McKee. And we'll put Dalton in here. Foles? Let's take Foles out of it, too, because that's not even worth the conversation. Okay, McCown, Minchew, Marriota, Pickett, McKee, Dalton. Based off what we've seen and just overall standing,

I would say you're probably putting Dalton at the bottom of that list. At the dead last list. You're on Pickett. Petultimate on the list? Yeah, Pickett Penultimate, then McCown. At that age. You could make a case for Dalton over Pickett. You could make that case.

You can make a case. for Dalton over McCown. It's a similar archetype. I feel like McCown had a little bit more juice. Like career McCown had like a little bit more juice. And I think it's Minchew and McKee at the top. It's got to be Minchu at the top. It's got to mention you at the top. Yeah, to mention you number one. To quote the band on my right, McCown also knew it like, you know, they knew what time it was. Yeah. Yeah, Dalton's at the bottom of the list. I don't know. I don't think they fumbled it. I think that that might be, like, you know, they're not screwed if one of these guys has to play.

Yeah. But they are not as well situated as we expect this team to be at the backup quarterback spot. I would be very surprised if we're in like week three and Tanner McKee is not the number two quarterback to Jalen Hertz. Okay. I think Eagles fans hope you're right. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.

How many turkeys before we close here? How many turkeys would you put on Andy Dalton being. the number two quarterback week one. Should we all say it at once? What's his? All right, yeah, yeah, we'll do that way. I count us in. Is everybody ready?

Let's get to the Ace Hardware temperature check. We want to talk about who's heating up after the game. Tonight, everybody pick one player that you'd like to talk about. Fran, we will start with you.

To me, I think we have to go. with the guy who look let's uh let's the let's take him off life support and tie robinson has got to be feeling good with where he's at right now uh on this 53 man roster um yeah Nick are Vic Fangio saying this week uh yeah he's been on life support since he was been here uh i did I feel like I led the show last week of the post game show uh and said like yeah it was really nice to see signs of life from Ty Robinson and the fact that he came back and found betraying the brute the group text with the with between you and Vic I guess well No, just someone that he watches the show.

That's all. But I think that, you know, Ty Robinson, he's got to feel good about where he's at. Now, it's interesting. The fact, obviously, he gets that early, you know, the early run, and you see a lot of it in the first half. But through the second half, they still on third and long would bring him and Gabe Hall out onto the field. And I thought that was interesting. Hey, like, we want to get these guys some high leverage snaps on third and long

and just try and see what those guys can bring to the table, get them working in tandem together. I thought that was interesting. but yeah, Ty Robinson, and even like shown up against the run as well. I think that you saw some really good things from Robinson. I still, obviously I think he's still behind B.Y and the overall rotation,

Byron Young, but to me like, BY is dealing with an injury right now. BY is dealing with an injury right now. Yeah, that's fair. We'll see about that. I mean, I think it's probably more situation dependent.

Probably, yeah. If it's a rundown, you would rather have B.Y. If it's a pass down, you might rather have Ty Robinson. on the field right now. I mean, that first sack comes on third and long.

That's a pure pass rush situation. You know, it's like he beats the chip and then beats the, the guard. I mean, he's looked pretty good. He has come on. Yeah,

I feel like he's trending toward being active on game day. He has to keep this trajectory. That's a right way of phrase it. I think, you know, a week into training camp, I had him as like my 53rd player on my roster. I felt like,

eh, like this guy might not make it. But, you know, obviously the draft pedigree was going to make it. So he didn't have to show a lot. But yeah, I think he is starting to make an argument that, like, maybe he can play a handful of snaps. I think that's right. I think that's a good way to say it.

All right. I'm going to go next just because I cannot allow for the possibility of DJ trying to do. No, no, no, no, absolutely. Get out of here. You do not get to steal this. I was going to do this. I was going to do this. I was going to do this.

I was going to go to Fran first. I'm taking Josh Weiru, the Bo Wolf Cam Crush, the man who is lighting the league. I mean, a beautiful sack. And let's not, let's not downplay the fact, you know. only his second game, also playing on the left side tonight, played on the right side. He has mostly played on the right side in camp. So he's showing a little bit of versatility there.

And that move he makes on that, on that sack, is a special move. The way that he bends the corner after, as you described it to us, on the on the text thread, Fran, what is it, the sort of the long stride move. It was like a, so they would say like that's like a Euro step basically. Right. involved. You know, I just, you know, purely athletic maneuver, but there aren't a lot of guys

that have the length and like, you know, you see like the stride length to be able to like sell that inside. You can see the tackle, the tackle response. And Ross, Ross Tucker pointed out in the broadcast was like, yeah, like he thought it was going to be a T.E. stunt. That's how, how hard inside he sells that move, uh, where it does. Um, but then his ability just, again, like one step and plant and go back outside. You see the, the next step game ground. And then he turned the corner and then to see him close. Like there aren't a lot of guys that have that skill set. You know, and so first of all, shout out to, to Wero for like, you know, kind of learning

that move because, you know, I'd be interested to hear like from him like, all right, like, where'd you get that from? Because that's like, I don't know, like Miles Garrett can do that. Danelle Hunter can do that. J-Lunt can do that. There aren't a lot of guys that had like that are that long and that explosive and that bendy. they're the body type

they're not a lot of those guys and he did he did it and he made it look really good and was a little bit more active against the run tonight wasn't getting blown up the ball quite as much I think I accidentally pronounced it the wrong way in the beginning where where where where where um yeah

and I do actually now think I don't think they can cut him they can't they can't expose no waivers he's it's either phantom i are or 53 I mean some of us said he was on the team last week and some of us had them on this is like the most the most the most tebid take of the three and the latest of the

it's like the you're your it's beneath you is what it is you're right you're trying to steal the shine here I shouldn't try to steal the shine from Fran who did notice him first I should not notice him first but yeah that's fine pointing it out to all of us uh yeah that was really fun to watch really really good and to your point yeah like you know

Well, we'll see when I go through the film tomorrow and Monday, like what the run defense ultimately looks like. But it felt like the lows were not as low tonight to get that at the point of attack. I mean, should we talk about O'R as well in here? I don't know. Like, you know. Yes. And let's do it because we have a good super chat here from SS Remodeling who says, how does it work with Werru and UR? I'm not sure either will clear waivers, but I know there's an exception with the International Pathway Player Program.

Players, what's the plan? neither will be 53 question mark. So we have talked about the IPP player exemption is for an extra practice squad spot. So you still have to put those players through waivers if you want them to go on the practice squad. You have to waive them and other teams can claim them and put them on the 53. So if you don't want them to be exposed to waivers, you have to either keep them on the 53 or you put them on IR if they're injured. One thing that I am not 100% clear on, and BLG, the great Brannily got on, brought this up to me is he believes at some point the Eagles designated UR as their international

player. So if you are allowed to change that designation or not, I would imagine you can. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to. But now you only get one of those. And again, you're talking about a 17th practice squad spot. So it might not matter. Right. If you have both through waivers, yeah, exactly. They're both on it regardless. Right. One of then right, exactly. It would only matter if where it was on the 53 and you want to put UR on the practice squad or vice versa. Well, the difference is that if you correct me if I'm wrong, but if you were on the

IPP, like if you were the 17th guy on the practice squad, you can't get claimed onto somebody's 53. I think you're protected once you clear waivers. Like you have to clear waivers. You get cut. You go through waivers. But once you're on the practice squad in the IPP slot, I don't think a team can like claim you the way they can claim somebody else on the practice squad well you can never just claim it you have to accept they have to accept signing to your actor master yeah right

but yes i i guess we we need to do some actual figuring out of the mechanics of it um but that i i don't believe in order to protect them you got to either put them on the 53 or i i have it i think i think where is on the team where it was on the team yeah i think i think i think He's been on the team for a week, but he's on the team. It's so funny because I'm pretty sure I also had him on the team. I'm just not throwing a parade about it. I invented him first and all that stuff, but I do think it's interesting, and we should probably bring us up.

PRT Smith is in the chat saying, you know, Y'all trip and Vic is not putting either one of them near the final roster. It's a good thing Vic's not putting together a 53-man roster, but that's not Vick's call. No. And these guys are not going to be active. Yeah. I mean, UR has no chance of being active for a game this season. We'll talk about how we did tonight because it did look better.

I think there's a possibility where Wero is maybe involved in special teams down the road. But they've got plenty of spots right now. They're not super injured, knock on wood. They've got spots to play with in terms of who's going to be inactive. And yes, it is not up to Vic. No. All right. Quickly on UR.

What did you think? Really quickly, too, on that sack, the sideline reaction. Yeah. So good. Just. That's what it's all about. That's what the preseason is all about. Phenomenal.

That said, the reaction that UR, like, you're just seeing UR, like kind of, you know, he makes that first tackle and, you know, Ross says it on the broadcast. Like, oh, like. It's his first game in New England. First game in New England. But he makes the first tackle and he's like, oh, look how, look how excited he is. And then it comes back. And he makes it.

He makes another player, nice play from the back side. Again, like, I want to see what it all looks like. But he would, or was on the field early in this game. Now, part of that is, you know, Byron Young being injured. You know, but I do think that, yeah, I thought that was notable that. That war was on the field, I mean, mid first quarter. Yeah. He first got snaps.

It was before it was being out on the broadcast. So it was the second series. I had him in. Yeah. I, that's, I think that's notable too. I think he came in from Miles Inton. I think so. All right, E.J.

Who are you giving your shine to? I have a broader discussion I'll save. I'll stick to the constraints of this exercise for the sake of the chat. You know, they don't like it when I take liberties here. We're holding this man down. We got to talk about Carson Steel, obviously. I think it entered preseason Eagles lore, right? You know, he had a really fun, a couple fun hurdles.

I feel like this will be like, you know what, I appreciate this. This is big of you. What do you mean? Oh, yeah, then the kind of the Cam Latu of it all. I mean, go ahead. Slightly different players, slightly different players. But, you know, Carson Steele has been lined up as a running back a lot this summer. And I think, you know, he showed the utility nature and just honestly,

a great explosiveness with the two hurdles, you know, catching the ball to the backfield. He had 117 yards from scrimmage tonight. So, you know, again, I'm not sitting here telling you. I think this guy's going to be on the 53. I don't think, you know, he's going to be a huge part of their plans. But maybe he captures the imagination of Sean Mannion. You know, maybe a game like this makes Sean Mannion think, what if we can incorporate this guy into something during the regular season?

So it was fun. So six catches for 84 yards and a touchdown. Yeah. 12 carries for 33 yards. But is there a chance, EJ, is there an actual chance that he could be a shock inclusion on the 53 men roster because they have not yet unveiled their plans for having a fullback and he is their fullback. If they if that day of install is coming up in the next week or two or maybe it's been in walk

through and we haven't seen it, then yeah, I think that there if as much as it kills me as somebody who has been, you know, a fusive about Cam Latu, if you told me they were going to have a fullback on the 53, I probably would have Carson Steele there. I think that Latu is kind of more of a blocking tight end for this team at this point. So yeah, I think that steel is interesting. I probably won't have them on my next 53. But. if they are going to surprise us and have a fullback on the roster, I think he would be the guy. Big Willis. Fullback, man.

All right, let's close the book on the temperature check, the ACE hardware home services temperature check. Let's talk two things first. Very scary situation at the beginning of this game, Jaquindon Jackson. The running back makes an awesome play on kickoff coverage and like goes down. I think they never showed a replay. It's probably a good thing, but it sounded like his went head to knee and was on the ground for a long time. The ambulance came out, had to take him out, but gave a thumbs up on his way out. And all reports are that he has movement.

So that was good. Obviously a scary start to the game. And then on a much lower level of injury, Willie Lampkin, after a good first two series, I believe, had to come out. And it looked on the sideline like he was talking about his neck. the trainers were touching his neck, look like he had some kind of neck injury. Yeah, obviously, we hope, you know, everything is okay with Jaquina Jackson.

Dave Spadero did provide an update on the broadcast, saying that he was being taken to a local hospital, so I'm sure the team will release some kind of update here in the coming days. But with Willie, obviously, you hope that that's nothing too, too serious. My gut would tell me the fact that he was, like, on the sideline consistently through the route to others, that is, and then it's nothing too crazy. And there was just precautionary to keep him out.

McKee is QB2. And why don't we talk a little bit about Will Shipley? I did think he looked good tonight. 11 carries for 56 yards in a touchdown. He had a really good day at practice. on Wednesday against the Patriots working a lot with the ones because Tank Bigsby was banged up. Now, he did benefit from the offensive line, E.J., just kind of blowing the Patriots defensive line off the ball. Yeah, I like how you teed me up there.

I don't know if you saw all my stock up stock down. The big thing I want to talk about today after this game is actually not a player at all. You know, I didn't want to do it for the temperature check. I wanted to stick to the rules. But somebody who I think had a real stockup evening and really a summer overall is Chris Cooper. I remember sitting in this very chair. I like this is a good one. And we talked for for months about the uncertainty about what a post Jeff Stoutland world was going to look like for the offensive line. You know, what is the development from the backups that we've seen from

Jeff Stoutland for over a decade and whether or not Chris Cooper could continue that trend. You know, it's been the status quo for the Eagles in for a long time here. And the way that the backups look tonight, the way that I feel overall about the Eagles offensive line depth, it's been a really, really encouraging summer. Drew Kendall, Willie Lampkin, and honestly, and most importantly, Mark Hellbell, the way that he has looked developing as a rookie, playing out a position, a position he didn't play in college.

I think that a lot of the questions we had about Chris Cooper, he has done a nice job answering them in the first few months. It's early, you know, not comparing him to Jeff Soutland, but the fact that we aren't talking about the deaf guys struggling or in the early going and Markle Bell, you know, being ahead of schedule, I think it reflects very well on Chris Cooper. it's a good take it's early still the proof is going to be in the pudding there's a long way to go

but early on i think you're right the the early returns on the development of the backup offensive line is definitely good and you don't you don't necessarily need to give him all the credit for willie lampkin and drew kendall and and you know the team thought very highly of drew kendall during the season last year right but yeah you're absolutely right it looks pretty good it looks like they have a real backup offensive line right now. Go ahead, Fran. I would say like just going back, obviously watching the game last week live, we didn't feel good about the offense, but even just watching the tape, I was like, yeah, like, you know, the offensive line as a whole, just like kind of overwhelmed. They came out hair on fire today. They were blowing the Patriots off the ball. And it was

first drive, second drive, third drive, fourth drive, like those guys were getting movement. I thought they brought the edge to this game. And I don't know if this was like, you know, a bounce back to how practice ended on, I guess it was Wednesday or Thursday, where, you know, it seemed like the Patriots kind of bit back after the Eagles won the first day, you know, that kind of situation. But I thought they got after those guys. And there were a number of really good reps and they did a good job of showing some replays, you know, from the high end zone in this game where you got to see like, all right, like,

watch Markle Bell here, watch the double team with Willie Lampkin and Kendall, you know, watch Jake Majors, Sean. Do you shake your head all you want, you do? No, no, no, that, listen, that I'm talking, I was thinking about that combo block. They, they got, they push two guys in the end zone, six yards down. It was awesome. I mean, that's literally like those guys scored a touchdown with the nose tackle. You drove him seven yards across the goal line.

It was phenomenal. And, but you just watching those guys go to work, I was really impressed. So I'm excited to watch that one back. But Markell looked like he had a strong night. And Lampkin looked awesome again. So, yeah, I'm excited about what that group was looked like. Now the one caveat I will add here is some of what they're going to be judged on is like knowing their assignments in pass pro. And that was an issue in practice on Wednesday.

There were a lot of free rushers coming through. It happened again with Dalton tonight when that one guy comes through on the left side. And I don't know if it was Fred Johnson who was supposed to get him or not. but the pre-snap operation and knowing your assignments, that is part of his overview as well. And that has been imperfect, I think, so far. Yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, I mean, again, it hasn't all been perfect.

But even down to the conversation we had about like the run game coordinator of it all over the spring and the summer where it's like, well, you know, these guys have only known one system. and how are they going to adjust to this and transition to this? Everybody's like so excited about the way that this has looked so far, you know, the offensive line and how, you know, how more advantageous the positions that they're in are. So yeah, I just think in general, like the post-atland world, he's a great coach. Like I'm not making this sound like, oh, like they're not going to miss him.

But I think that they have, you know, handled that transition better than I would have expected. Darius Cooper after not great first preseason game looked much better tonight three catches for 44 yards had that 25 yarder where he danced along the sidelines showed some open field ability and then had that dig route

where he caught the back of the ball was good hands it's another one where I felt like his head was not quite around in time it's like I think that's just like a small coaching point that they needed to be hammering him on but he looked good and didn't play deep into the second half you know, I think he continues to be safely on the roster.

But, you know, Hollywood Brown didn't suit up for this game. Elijah Moore is injured. I thought Darius Cooper looked apart more tonight. Yeah, him on that shallow crosser to me was like a glimpse of what it can look like in the regular season, in the role that we maybe are projecting him into, you know, a run after the catch, physical presence. Obviously, there's been some like, you know, discourse about the size of the Eagles receiver room now that Johnny Wilson was placed on the, well, he cleared waiver.

He was injured, waived, you know, waived with an injury designation and ended up on IR. And like, you know, just look at the receiver room now without having that big body. Like Darius Cooper can give you some of that. You know, the dirty work, obviously in the run game, but also just be a physical presence running after the catch. And I thought it was good to see him do that tonight. And you look good doing it. Backup offensive line tonight, left to right, Miles Hinton at left tackle. Here's a defense tackle.

tough tough tough deal being a center on a brand new team yeah uh michael jordan the great one his erinous at red guard and cam williams at right tackle um i didn't notice micha morris quite as much tonight as i did the first game but

cam williams didn't have a did have a tough one obviously the exclamation point at the very end giving up the sack fumble yeah colpaten gets the ball down three 50 seconds left you think he's going to do it they got three time out the game colpate too much time it's the slant but there's a penalty on our boy zik korel then he hits a quick one to stone smart time out and he gets plucked by the blind side fumbles the ball

there goes there goes his chance that's okay he'll have more if he had gotten that he leads him down he throws a touchdown final second would you have woken the family up no god no with your celebration

no he was like I don't want those problems I have three sleeping kids upstairs right now I got a show to do um hey what did you think anything to uh maybe charm man should be calling the game from the booth yeah i was wondering i had this in the notes same what do you think we just hear what do you sense about that uh you know

the differences that he felt that he had um you know and obviously look there were there were things about last week you know the early down penalties and stuff like that that you know kind of threw them off but uh they were definitely able to get into more of our rhythm tonight but i think it be more of like a process and like operation like how did he feel uh after being in the booth it'll be interesting to hear i'll talk about that this week i could hear him in let's say four months time doing like a sit down interview with like one of the broadcast teams right and this is like uh you know pregame like package they're doing and he's going like you know vicangio has just been such a great resource for me and you know he calls games from the booth and you know he's just

just open my eyes to the value of being able to see the coverages, you know, from the bird's eye view, being detached from the side. Like, I can hear him, like, waxing poetic about Vick's influence on him here. And, like, you know, maybe all the, like, the trendy offensive guys are all going to go like, oh, yeah, that makes sense. Maybe that's Vicks' secret sauce is that he's up in the booth and he can see things better. Okay. I like that. I like that. I don't know that I can see Shimonian waxing poetic about anybody the way he talks, but I do like, I do like Quit your heads at. Yeah, just trying to show everybody his football bona fides there.

I don't know. Okay. Anything else on the offensive notebook before we get to the defense? The only other thing I had a last note on the Dalton experience this today was, I thought it was really tough that he overthrew. It was Eli Stowers and Darius Cooper on consecutive throws. Both of those guys are like fighting for roles in the regular season for him to overthrow both of them. With like the same overthrow too, I thought that was really tough. and unfortunate for those guys.

The Stowers one was brutal. That was a really tough one. Give him a chance, man. Yeah. Like we, we all want to see him get a chance to make a contested catch like that. Yeah.

Like, please. Like, I agree, please. For his confidence and for that to happen, it stinks. Yeah, that's tough.

Uh, I saw a couple people in my mentions, like, why haven't you been telling us about Will Shipley? You know, you guys haven't said anything about Will Shipley. And it's like, A, we have said that he had a good day. You said that he had a good day on Wednesday. Talked about it on Wednesday.

You talked about on Wednesday. And B, like, if a player doesn't do a lot in training camp and then he comes out and has a good preseason game. Like, I'm sorry, did you want me to manufacture something you did in practice just to predict that he's going to play well in the preseason? It's like, what are we talking about here? it only comes down to comfort for, for each individual, but I think aesthetically, uh, I think I, I go back and forth. I don't know. It depends on the kind of guy it is.

we want the stash this is the gear of the stash come on he just he didn't bring the razor with him on the road trip. He didn't bring it with him. Honestly, this is like talking me down a little bit. You're talking me down a little bit. This is a real flex from Jalen to show you.

Still got it. Well, no, it's like two days without the razor. And yeah, look, I got the goatee back already. Yeah, they got that facial hair coming. Yeah, but it's not, it can't be. It's not, it's not just left the razor because this, the, the, the, the cheeks were completely clean. I, I just don't think he grows hair up here.

I was it real quick, staying with the corner position. What did you think of Keely tonight? Well, let's talk about Keely. If you didn't watch the game, first series makes a really nice break and let's the ball go through his hands. for what would have been a potential pick six, but really good break. Like, yes. Trusting his feet, that's the kind of play that like he didn't quite get there.

He did not make those plays. Correct. He got called for a super tiki tack, a legal contact penalty. Yes. Which is kind of like, it's one of those ones where they've just got it in the book that this guy, they can flag him. And there were a couple of those during joint practices where I was like,

I cannot believe they're throwing this flag on Kele-Ringo. And I feel bad for him personally. about this because it's like, I can't catch a break. Like, I'm barely touching these guys. And I do think that that's unfair. I thought he looked a little bit better tonight. I'm sensing from the way you asked the question that you thought it was pretty good. I liked what we saw from Keely tonight.

I actually thought the, so it was obviously it was after the breakup, after the misinterception, they took off the face mask. I think it was that third down. They threw deep down his sideline. and he's step for step with the guy the entire way he's got it when he's in that spot he's got to get his head around because to me like that was one where it's like oh like you're lucky you didn't get flagged on that one more so than the other like the other one I agree with you I thought that was tiki tack but I think with with me where I'm at with kely wringo my my expectations have adjusted like to me like he is like as a fourth corner like the guy that's the last guy actually he's like ideal that he is like that that's like what I want you know where he can give you like replacement level like like like all right like yeah if you got to play him like you can play him but you're not going to feel great about it he's going to be a great special teamer he's got traits

he's still young yeah I don't I don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater here like I to me like I would have kilo on my 53 I thought it was interesting that the broad I don't know for sure I have my I have I have I have him on. He has enough special teams value and he still has the traits that we once thought we could make him a starting quality player. I had him on. I would have him

on. I feel like, yeah, I feel like saying he's not on your 53, what are you saying that they might trade him? Because I don't think they'd cut him. I mean, I could see them trading him. I think that's possible. Yeah, I don't think it was interesting that they said on the broadcast that Vic in his meeting with them was also doubling down on his belief in Keelew like

he did in the press conference the other day. if that what if it wasn't vic and if it was syriani right it wouldn't matter right the fact that vic because that to me like we i think we've come to trust vick as a as a reliable narrator um and so if that's if that's the feeling and i feel even better about it but even just looking at me just trust my eyes on it i'm good i'm good with keely where he's at mac mac williams after playing the nickel mostly this week who started on the outside I thought he also looked better than last week. Yep.

So a little bit of movement upward for him as well. I think that's about it on the defensive side of the ball. No, Trotter. Let's talk linebackers. Let's talk linebackers. Go ahead. Trotter and Long didn't play this game. Jihad did not play.

Trotter with another good performance. I do want to like. I know. I know exactly what you. You see it a couple times. When he's in the open, when it's, you know, he's, he's placed in Tommy DeVito. Like, yes. Yeah, that was.

This is a foot race to DeVito. He lost a couple of those last week. You know, he's not a top 20 linebacker in football. Like, it's to me, like, let's not go nuts. Between the tackles, box to box, he's a good player. Yep. That's not necessarily. Second straight week where he well-timed a blitz and got home.

Like, he's awesome at that. Playing downhill, he does a really good job. let's get to the next spot though because i think it's really interesting so smile mondan got the majority of the reps early uh and then we saw lawson and campbell um and it was campbell early then we saw more loss and then campbell and smile played together for the milk portion yeah yeah um Campbell has been hurt for the last couple weeks and then we've got to see him this was like the first like real extensive action we've seen from him i thought he looked really good um lawson also popped and he had a couple plays that weren't great but

but also like he's considerably younger than Campbell. That's going to be really interesting between those three. I think I probably have Mondin third on that list, but I don't necessarily feel great about it. Third of Campbell and Lawson? I think so. Like if I'm just going off my eyes. Yeah, but I don't feel great about it.

This is like probably the best battle in camp right now. when Vic did say this week it's their deepest position and if you're thinking of the Howie roster mechanics you'll find out in overtime of those players at the moment I also think he's the one that you can be most sure is going to get through to the practice squad which one is that of Campbell, Mondon and loss yeah yeah

and it's going to be you know this is one where you know Vic Fangio does not decide the 50 three men roster I don't know I I would be surprised I I I view smile as a potential trade possibility. I don't think that they would cut him. Yeah, I don't think they cut him. But I think I, you know, I like Lawson too. I think they probably carry five.

It is a position where I think that you, you know, they'll probably be able to get guys through. But I'll be interested to see who actually, who they give the nod to. That's going to be very fascinating. Yeah, carrying five is a lot. but I don't know who you're cutting. I mean, yeah, I probably would have Chance Campbell off. I know Vic said include him when you make your lists,

but as we said, like, three times now, he doesn't make 53. I think I haven't, I think I might have him at the top of those three. In terms of quality of player, but in terms of on the roster? Yeah, I think I might have on the top of those three. Which would they be angrious about losing on waivers? That's the question I always ask. Who? Who's going to be the angriest? Vic or Howie?

Howie's the one who makes the call. Mondin's number one. I mean, they'd be furious if they lost Monon. He's got draft pedigree. They're not going to cut him. I actually think if they were willing to cut him, they wouldn't be as angry about losing him. Does that make sense?

Yeah, but I just don't think that they're there. Like, you know, it defies the process behind the pick, really. You know, the Eagles don't really give up on these guys this early. So I don't think they'll cut him. They give up on late round picks all the time. Yeah, but I smile is better than the guys that they give up on, I think. Sure, but, you know, it's not like they're giving them up for nothing. When's the last time?

Who's the last fifth round pick that they punted on a year later? I mean, Kyle McCourt didn't make the team last year. Trevor Keegan's the perfect example. Like, they wouldn't cut Trevor Keegan last year. They did cut him.
