PHLY Philadelphia Eagles Podcast - Eagles Training Camp Day 2: Vic Fangio’s Defense Unmasked In INT-Heavy Day | PHLY Eagles Podcast

Episode Date: July 30, 2026

Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense were run-heavy on the second day of Eagles Training Camp, with Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby busting loose for long runs while Tanner McKee and Britain Covey had a ...few nice connections. But the defense held their own, thanks to Cooper DeJean, Quinyon Mitchell and Riq Woolen, while the backups made their mark with interceptions of Cole Payton from Keyshawn James-Newby, Chance Campbell and A.J. Epenesa.    Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

Starting point is 00:00:02 I guess a global pandemic is redundant. Hello everybody and welcome to the PHLY Eagles podcast. On a overcast and beautiful Thursday. Thursday. Afternoon live from the Xfinity Lounge and presented by our friends at Ashley Bowulf, Fran Duffy, E.J. Smith, day two of training camp is in the books. A relatively lighter day than yesterday,
Starting point is 00:00:28 but still plenty to tell you about. Some depth chart rumblings. some notes, everything you need to know. We will fill you in. But we start with the news and we kick it over to our Eagles insider, E.J. Smith. Yeah, we heard from Vic Fangio before practice today. And he opened his press conference. For those of you wondering what the pandemic has to do with your favorite football team in 2026.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Vic Fangio said that he was going to be like Anthony Fauci today on the podium. And he said he was going to plead the fifth on every single question. And he did later. He was actually talking about Brandon Graham. and someone said, like, I think Vic said, oh, you should ask Howie. And, you know, they said, we did ask Howie? And he goes, did he Fauci you? So noteworthy that Vic Fangio wanted to wait into that conversation.
Starting point is 00:01:16 But in terms of more like substantive, meaningful, go ahead, yeah. That's not all. I knew you had something to say about this. No, but he also made the case that the best, because he was asked about LeBron, said the best signing in Philadelphia of his sports history was Pete Rose. Big Pete Rose guy. Big Pete Rose guy. Big Philly's guy. You probably could have guessed. Vic Fangio is a big Phillies guy. In terms of like actual things that affect the Eagles in 2026 and more, less about Big Fangio's evening watching and television watching last night. Yeah. I don't want to see those Facebook groups.
Starting point is 00:01:54 So Vic Fangio on the safety rotation here said that it's going to be a competition between Marcus Epps and Michael Carter. but said that Marcus Epps will get the first team reps when they are in nickel. He said it's going to be Cooper at safety when they're in base. Marcus Epps was the first team when they're a nickel for the time being. But he did say that he's always pretty honest. He said that Michael Carter's been fine. And I don't think that it's necessarily like it wasn't as strong as Vick saying, it's Marcus Epps's job or like it's his job to lose necessarily.
Starting point is 00:02:25 He pushed back on that idea. But yeah, it is going to be Marcus Epps with the first team. And we have seen both of those guys get rep. Yes, yes. And also, Fran noticed later in the press conference was a good observation by you that when Vic was talking about who would make the calls for the secondary, he said either Drew or Marcus. He did not include Michael Carter in that. So, you know, reading some tea leaves here, but that's kind of where things stand with the safety rotation so far. He is always very honest about injuries. And so he said that Jonathan Gernard, who obviously is on Pupp with a peck strain, he said he's
Starting point is 00:03:00 probably going to miss most of camp and said it remains to be seen if he will miss time in the regular season. So I'd say that's probably a more realistic timeline. He was not very happy about that. Yes. Yes. Yeah, because, you know, the value of practice and the fact that Jonathan Gernard needs to acclimate to the system. And he said specifically because he's going to be asked to do some different things in this defense than he's done before. Yes, exactly. And then not as surprising, but two updates on linebacker that we got from Vic today, Zach Bonn is going to be the green dot. I think it was the green dot for the start of last season at the very least. But I'm not sure if you can change it midseason.
Starting point is 00:03:34 I think Nikobe finished last year as the green dot. And then, again, not surprising to hear this, but Jihad Campbell's days as an edge rusher, you know, cross-training at that position, those days are over. He's going to stick it inside linebacker. I thought it was interesting. Vic said that last season, like having him cross-trained at edge rusher, midway through the season when they had a lot of injuries there, probably stunted his development as an off-ball linebacker some.
Starting point is 00:03:56 So, you know, it'll be music to a lot of. of Eagles fans' ears. Kind of contradicts like a Micah Parsons reference on the first night of the draft a couple seasons ago, but yeah, I think we all knew, saw where this was going. I feel like we were on the right side of that one. We were.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Oh yeah, we definitely said that in the moment. They're like, I don't love the idea of just kind of shoehorning him into that spot. Yes, exactly. Okay. Good. I, let me stand up for my predecessor here a little bit. It was like Howie Roseman was the one
Starting point is 00:04:28 who brought that up, brought that into people's minds. I agree. If I had watched Shahad Campbell in college, I would not have looked at him and said, he could be an eddressor in the NFL like Michael Parsons. But when you bring up Michael Parsons the day that you draft them, I think it's fair to at least say, like they see the value in him potentially being,
Starting point is 00:04:46 you know, an impact player at a premium position. But again, if you saw him in college, you saw him in his rookie season, it wasn't going to happen. Yeah, I'm not taking issue at all with characterizing that they thought that they thought that that could be the case. I think just in the moment we were saying, the reality.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Yeah. Give him the reps a linebacker because that's where he's going to play. Yep. I think that's fair. Okay. And then the one injury note from today. Yeah, so Cameron Williams left practice midway through. He was, he got up slowly. He walked off on his own power, but I'd say it's fair to say he was limping toward the medical tent and did not return. So, you know, that's the first injury of camp.
Starting point is 00:05:22 Outside of honestly, or obviously Jonathan Grenard, who was hurt before camp, they've been healthy otherwise. So yeah, Cameron Williams, we'll see what he looks like when they get back on the practice field on Saturday if he's out there. But otherwise, not much injury news to report. All right. Let's get into what happened on the field in that case. Let's give you, from the top, our players of the day.
Starting point is 00:05:44 Fran, you get to kick things off today. A Fran Duffy practice player of the day for the second day of training camp. We're going to track this all summer long. Where do we go? Yeah, I'm going to go to the offensive side of the ball. and one of the biggest names on offense and someone that is going to be a huge talking point throughout the course of this season
Starting point is 00:06:00 because of the loss of A.J. Brown. And that is wide receiver, Devante Smith, the Slim Reaper himself. He had a couple targets down the field where sometimes Jalen wanted to go his way and then ended up holding onto the football or maybe the ball was underthrown and fell in complete. But in that 7-on-7 period early in practice,
Starting point is 00:06:19 I thought he had some really nice reps in there. The very first play, a quick slant, a bang-slant, right in rhythm. made the catch through traffic. The best one was a deep out route versus Quinyon Mitchell one-on-one, created separation at the top of the route and then made a toe tap grab
Starting point is 00:06:33 that was good for a catch. A little bit, but they ruled it a catch. They ruled it a catch. The defense was not happy. It was along the defensive sideline, as you would expect, but they did rule that a catch. And then the first play of the next team period,
Starting point is 00:06:45 he caught a shallow cross coming from left to right, kind of plucked it off the grass on the run. So, yeah, I thought Devante, had a nice day. Today was a tough day. to make this pick. Just feel like there was not necessarily one standout here or there, but everybody kind of chipped in in their own way.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Yeah, there was a little bit, a little bit less action today than yesterday. And we'll get to some of the bigger takeaways. But yeah, early on, Devante looked good. And I do think you can spot a difference and really tell, even if you're parachuting in, never having watched this team before, that Jalen and Devante have worked together before. And they're on the same page as opposed to, lot of the other guys, like, for whatever reason, well, we know the reason, like, the passes to
Starting point is 00:07:30 Devante are more accurate than the other ones because he knows exactly where he's going to be. Yep. Yeah, I think that's fair. I think that, and again, there was one, Marcus Epps was like all over Devante down the field where he thought about throwing it and then ended up not throwing it. There was another one where he threw it and who was the DB? Was it Carter? Was it Michael Carter down the field against Devanti?
Starting point is 00:07:50 The one where you under threw it? He underthrew it. I don't think I have it was in coverage. eyes back. He played the ball really well. But there were a few who were just like, yep, he wants it. He wants Devante down the field and they just had not been able to hook up early on. Do you want to talk about your general wide receiver
Starting point is 00:08:04 thoughts right now? No, let's keep a player the day going. To me, that's a broad discussion about the receivers. I'll let you throw it over to me. So we can continue this conversation because I also went with Devonte Smith. It was a little bit of a tepid day, you know, as I was going through my notes again, the 7-on-7 period that they had
Starting point is 00:08:19 early in practice was probably the best that the offense looked after they looked so good yesterday. they kind of, I felt like the defense, you know, grew as the day went on. But I thought that the significance for Devante having, you know, that stretch where it really was like a couple of plays in a row where he was featured and, you know, had a couple nice catches, is that they are coming against Quinion Mitchell. And, you know, the question being, you know, how will Devante look stepping into that number one receiver role?
Starting point is 00:08:44 Obviously, like, Devante and Quinion have matched up against each other in the past during training camp, but this year it is more pronounced because there's not AJ Brown who is kind of taken some of those reps. And obviously, Quinyon and AJ's reps in the past were kind of the ones that were appointment viewing and the high level reps. I thought it was, you know, mildly significant. You know, in a practice that didn't have as many headline grabbing moments, I thought it was like a good moment to see Devante going head to head against Quinion Mitchell, good coverage and still being able to win in that high level matchup. You know, that's an all pro corner that he's going against every day. So yeah, I found it encouraging. And for that reason, he got my player of the day.
Starting point is 00:09:20 I mean, where does Devante rank on your list of the most important Eagles this season, right? Like, he's up there. You could make Acacia's top three. Right. Because the defense is so loaded that every awesome defensive player, like their individual importance is a little bit less because they're part of a larger group. Less fragile as a unit. Yep. You know, it's Jalen and then maybe Devante.
Starting point is 00:09:48 I put the offense. I put the old. I put the old. Yeah. Yeah. I'd say Landon and Cam, just since, well,
Starting point is 00:09:54 is it, like, important because of the variance of their play? Because then I probably put the interior guys, just because I think the run game is going to be central no matter what. But in terms of just like, you know, if they hit their ceiling,
Starting point is 00:10:04 how important that is, I can see the argument for him. I think I, I think you might have sold me. I think it might be, I think it might be Devante after jailing. At least on the offense, for sure, right?
Starting point is 00:10:15 Yeah. There are so many moving parts in the running game. Right. That it's hard to say, like, even if Sequin was gone, the running game could still be successful.
Starting point is 00:10:24 I think Devante is more important than Seekwon. I think that's good. And the passing game, it's hard to imagine them having an above average passing game without Devante or without Devante having a good year. And the scheme can handle some of the issues if you do miss some offensive linemen.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Yeah, I think your point is right. So good sign early that he has a good relationship with Gailen is looking. good as expected in a huge season against high level competition there uh my player of the day also on the offensive side of the ball and this was not a great day for the offense no defense was better it was actually we can get to it because there were you know they did ones versus twos yeah and i think every time they did ones versus twos it was a little bit disappointing how well the two's held up right yes yeah i totally
Starting point is 00:11:10 agree when i went through my notes it was that ones versus two session where it's like oh the wheel you kind of want the ones to dominate on either side of the ball and that was so listen you could take that You could say the depth of this team is strong and, you know, they're almost as good as a starting offense or defense. But I think this early you kind of want to see the offense or the starters dominating. That was not the case. But I got a different player on offense. And again, this was not like a huge day, but he popped a few big runs.
Starting point is 00:11:37 One of them we were not all the way on the same page about. Tank Biggsby had one big run for a touchdown in team drills. That was against the twos. Yes. And that was a nice cut. You've seen his juice a little bit. I think there's no doubt that the Eagles are approaching their planning on offense with Tank Bigsby as part of that group.
Starting point is 00:12:00 Now, I think a lot of that, I think we can probably overstate the degree to which he'll be involved not at Saquan's expense, like they're going to be 21 personnel backgrounds or backfields or they're going to have them in the slot. I think that's probably not going to be the case that much. But I think big picture, if you're thinking about how do we sustain this team, over the course of the season, you probably want to rely on Sequin a little bit less. And I wonder if this scheme is better suited for Tank, because we know he likes to get outside anyway. And so there was one stretch play to the right where against the starting defense, he busted
Starting point is 00:12:36 it for a long run. And I wasn't sure if he would have actually gotten through that hole. I was a little bit skeptical. You thought that he would have. I thought he would have because he was at top speed. That's one of the things it's going back to like those Sequin runs from 2024. when those guys are at top speed, they become so hard to get to the ground. And Tank is one of those runners. So I actually,
Starting point is 00:12:55 I do really like the scheme for Sago, like the idea of what we think it's going to be schematically in the run game with Sakewan for that reason. It's a lot of the things that we loved about those explosive plays in 2024 where, you know, back then it was a lot of like the sweet plays
Starting point is 00:13:08 and some of those toss plays, just getting him outside, you know, these stretch zone plays, you know, some of them are going to be able to hit to the front side as well. So, yeah, a couple of those, I felt, and the long one where you and I disagreed on, that came after Sequin's best run of the day.
Starting point is 00:13:24 Where Sequin got up to the second level with the full head of steam. And that was more of an inside run. But, yeah, to me, like, get those guys running. And then it's the runaway train off the track. Damien Pierce also looks pretty good. Yeah, I like a day. He's got, yeah. Two days.
Starting point is 00:13:38 He's, I'll be like, oh, that's Elijah Mitchell. That's the 4-3 guy. It's like, no, that's Damien Pierce. He's got some juice. Yeah. Yeah. Poor juice than I was expecting. I agree.
Starting point is 00:13:45 whereas Will Shipley has not been involved as a running back. We've just barely seen them do that. So, yeah, it was a pretty good day for the running scheme. And let's stay stick here for a second, E.J., because what did Jordan Milata say about all of this, you know, echoing what Lane said yesterday that this is easier for the offensive line. Yeah, he did say that the offensive tackles have a little bit of an easier time because they have guard help and talked about how he actually really likes this system.
Starting point is 00:14:14 And it was a question I asked him because what we talked about yesterday, which is, you know, they're going from a scheme where they are a little bit more static and a little bit, you know, able to read and react that allows them to use their strength more. And now they are in a scheme where they're going to have to have more movement skills, play more sideline to sideline. That's what Lane Johnson. That's how Lane Johnson described it yesterday. And my lot of said that he really enjoys that, which I didn't think was a, you know, a given that he would feel that way, obviously, as a bigger offensive lineman. And he said the conditioning matters more when you play in this system and he said that Nick's been harping on that. So yeah, but he's been, he's very bullish on the scheme. Obviously, he said again that Sean Mannion's an evil genius. He did not, he has yet to explain why Sean Mannion's evil, but just that he is a genius. But yeah, a lot of optimism from these guys about the way that the scheme looks and how it will help them kind of like step into really like how they've characterized it as like the modern NFL. Like they, like, I feel like Lane and Jordan both kind of said like, man, it's crazy that offensive linemen have been. doing this for years now across the NFL.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Jordan was funny about that way. Yeah. Yeah. It's like, we can play this way. So I think there's a lot of optimism around it right now. I especially bought it with Jordan, just because like, you know, not a guy that grew up around the NFL and like grew up, you know, studying the, studying the game that way. So, uh, his newness to it, uh, I think that that came through. He was very, very excited talking about it. Yeah. And even just like the, the way he described, and it was when he was talking about Sean Mannion and like the evil genius part of it. And he said, like, you know, we'll go and we'll run plays on the field. And, you know, maybe we don't know, like, the whole picture.
Starting point is 00:15:49 And then when we go in and watch it on tape, but he explains the details of why what we're doing here impacts the defense. You could see the hesitation. It's like, it all comes together. And it's eye opening. I thought that was notable. All right. Buying stock in the running game.
Starting point is 00:16:02 Super chat, In Under the Wire from SRG. Kind of funny that Lane was always lauded for being put on an island, only to find out he absolutely hated it. Yeah. Those guys, like, they embrace the challenge of it. Yeah. But it doesn't make it easy. You know, it's a lot to ask.
Starting point is 00:16:19 Especially, you know, we talk about the, you know, pass protection versus run blocking and why do, you know, offensive linemen like to run block because they like to be the aggressor. So if you are pass protecting all the time with no help, so you're going up against top flight pass rushers who are just teeing off on you and you have to like hold your ground against. It's tough living. Yeah. another super chat from Alton Williamson. Oh, shout out to Alton. He's got to speak to both Bo and EJ briefly at training camp today. I'm here to report both of them are A-holes.
Starting point is 00:16:54 That's not what he said. Here to report both great guys. Bo, thanks again for the photo, guy in the Joel jersey. You don't need to qualify that Alton as if I don't remember talking to you and taking that photo. It was great to meet you. Thank you for saying hi. You took so many photos with viewers and with listeners today. He wanted to make sure he separated himself.
Starting point is 00:17:15 That's, yeah, but he introduced himself. I remember his name. I remember you, Alton. Sorry, I missed you, Joel. I told my wife about Alton on the drive over here. We're looking good. You got to be in shape to rock the basketball jersey. That's right.
Starting point is 00:17:27 I told him, though, got to get a LeBron jersey now. I was hoping to see a LeBron. He told me the same. Yeah, I know, but I'm just saying, you know, exciting times. Yes, if you are at train camp, feel free to say hi. Absolutely. You can find out how bad we are in person as well. Quick break.
Starting point is 00:17:45 To hear from some sponsors on the other side, we'll get into some of the more nitty-gritty details, but also a big picture conversation about the makeup of the receiver room that Frayne would like that. Starting point is 00:20:04 of the wide receiver position in this office. and, you know, I was thinking about it over the last couple of weeks, just kind of thinking about the team and thinking about training camp starting and this new look offense. And when you think of the 49ers with Shanahan, you think of the Rams with McVeigh and all the different iterations of this offense, this is the perfect example of like the, you know, wide receiver room built like a basketball team
Starting point is 00:20:27 where you have different guys that have all the different jobs, right? And that's typically how those receiver rooms are built. But really what you tend to see as well is receivers that it's like, hey, you've got one guy that can be your man-beater. And it's third down and they're playing man-to-man coverage. This is your guy that's going to win. And if you're seeing zone coverage, this is your guy that can do that. So I think of the 49ers.
Starting point is 00:20:47 And it's like, all right, Brandon Ayuk was the man coverage beater. And Debo Samuel was the zone coverage beater. You think of the Rams right now. And it's like, Devante Adams is your man coverage beater. And you've got Pukunakua is your zone coverage beater. And when I think of just wide receiver prospects coming out of college and going to the NFL, and you're thinking like, all right, like, this guy's a good route runner. years ago, that meant one thing.
Starting point is 00:21:09 But now I think you've got to separate those guys into two buckets where it's like, okay, if I'm one-on-one with a guy, do I have the ability to create separation? You know, it's like the Mackay Lemon going one-on-one against the Notre Dame corner and really struggling. Because he couldn't defeat press man coverage. And it's like, all right, that's not the kind of route runner that Mackay Lemon is.
Starting point is 00:21:27 Mackay Lemon is really good at like finding soft spots and zones and like, you know, just finding space, attacking leverage, like being able to, you know, to navigate tight quarters. That's what McCall Lemon is really good at. There was a couple good examples of that today. He ran a quick slant into the teeth of the defense. Shahad Campbell was there to kind of thud him up at the catch and he held onto the ball and did a good job.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Devante, what makes Devante great is that he is both, right? He's got that ability to beat zone, but then also, if I'm one-on-one against Quignan Mitchell on an island, like I can go out and win. So I was kind of thinking about that just in terms of the structure of this offense and how those guys can kind of play off each other well is that, you know, Devante can be that man-to-man winner. You know, it's third and eight, you need to got to go get open. To me, like, that is
Starting point is 00:22:09 Devante in this offense. I don't think that's McCoy Lemon. I don't know that it might not ever be McCoy Lemon, which that's okay. It could be Zantavian Wicks. That's a little bit of what they like about him. He's got some of that to him. Yes, he's got some of that. I don't want to say finesse to him, but he's got some of that, like, technical proficiency to create space for himself one-on-one in those kind of situations. He made, probably the play the individual. I almost went with him. Yeah. For that, for that, I mean, it was a, he looks like Devante on that play. The way he attacked the ball.
Starting point is 00:22:40 It was very, very great. It was a vertical route, very late in practice. Jalen threw it up, and he attacked the ball perfectly, goes up in the air, comes down with it, attack the ball. It was an interesting one. He was double-teamed, and I'm watching. He's running with Jacorri and Bennett, and I was watching Cole Wisniewski on the play.
Starting point is 00:22:57 And Cole Wisnowski reads it. He sees it. He's there, and it was a real welcome to the NFL moment for Wisniew. Yeah. Because it was like he didn't know that Jailen-Hertz could throw the ball. I was about to say it was a ridiculous throw. Yeah. I mean, it was a cross.
Starting point is 00:23:09 Jalen hurts rolling to his left. It's a cross-body throw. Yes. And when he went to throw it, I'm like, there's a lazy. And he doesn't usually throw those balls. Yeah, I mean, it was like 35 yards on the field. Yeah. It was a crazy throw.
Starting point is 00:23:19 Great catch too. And it just sails right. Wisnowski misses it by like three yards. Right. Because he doesn't think that Jalen can throw the ball that far. It goes over his head and then, and then Wix goes up and high points it over Bennett. Really, it was a really good catch. It was a really good catch.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Probably hurts his best throw of the last two days. The throw to Cooper was really nice. It was a nice touch. There was a lot of touch, like, good touch on the ball there. But that one was just like a sheer force of will. Like, I can't believe that you could throw it that far across your body type of throw. Yeah, it was impressive. Eagles put out a clip of the Cooper catch.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Yesterday. Yeah, there was like the hyper slow motion. I mean, but like you didn't need to see it because you heard Fran and Bo describe it in such great detail. It's like we knew exactly where everybody was. You know exactly what the throw was like. Read the book and then watch the movie. It's okay. I mean, yeah, but you got to make sure you read the book because you're not going to get this anywhere else.
Starting point is 00:24:05 I got you guys you guys up Yeah, that's all. But yeah, that's kind of the way I've been thinking about the wide receiver room but I think it's important then if you go with the idea if they believe it this way, if Sean Mannion and the coaching staff believe
Starting point is 00:24:18 like, all right, we want to put together the basketball team, you know, analogy. Who are the other guys that kind of, what roles do everybody else? Who else fits into that? I think that'll be interesting to see, develop as camp plays on. Okay, well, tell me what?
Starting point is 00:24:31 I think you want a, the big body, dirty work. player. I think Johnny Wilson's got the frontrunner to that kind of a spot for that reason. Yeah, I do. Now, we know the Cooper also, but they are different body types. Funny because I have felt like the first two days of camp have moved me in the other direction that I feel like Cooper has the inside track. I think so. I'm just thinking of in terms of like the skills like coming into camp. This is where my head was. It's like, all right, like you probably want Johnny Wilson to be that type of player. The other one is that is that the stretch player. And you know, I think of in, that's why Kyle Shanahan drafted Danny Gray.
Starting point is 00:25:03 that's why they drafted in L.A. last year, like, Kanata Mumfield. He kind of started, you know, Tutu Atwell as like, all right, they're like, wind sprint, win sprint, win sprint. I mean, that that is Hollywood Brown in the structure of this offense. I don't know that Hollywood has those wheels anymore. I think he's got enough. You know, he's not like four to, but, I mean, especially right now, like in this, in this, like, who else would be that?
Starting point is 00:25:24 We saw a final play from Elijah Moore today. Yes. And he would be that too. Yeah. Although he has traditionally been more using that speed horizontally, which is what he on this play. It was a little, uh,
Starting point is 00:25:35 Gieland put a lot of sauce on this. It was a play action and then Elijah Moore comes around and he flips it to him. Yep. Like a nice, it was like a very, uh, saucy flip. Went for like,
Starting point is 00:25:45 I don't know, six yards or something like that. Look, uh, you know, when you have that mustache, like you could flip it however you want. Listen,
Starting point is 00:25:51 I asked Goddard. I asked Goddard about the mustache. Did you actually? Because Goddard's, Goddard's rocking a mustache himself, but he hasn't, it's clear that he had a mustache, but he hasn't shaved the side of,
Starting point is 00:26:03 yet so the mustache is thicker than the beard. And he said, oh, yeah, like, I got to shave again because, you know, it looks good for Jalen, so I'm following him. Yeah. Important stuff. Big, the heavy hitting stuff. You know, I'm going to use this as an opportunity
Starting point is 00:26:18 to address something. People coming at my co-host Oh, you don't need to talk about this. For the questions that he asked, like, get out of here. This is stupid. Get out of here. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:26:28 Like, these are the questions that humanize people. when you ask them stuff that's not football robot. I know you don't, but I feel compelled to address it. I feel compelled to address it. I'm the one who put it out there. I'm making fun of myself. It's fine. Yeah, but like I don't like when people, I'm defensive of you.
Starting point is 00:26:46 I don't like it when people are like, this is so stupid, why would you ask him? That's like, come on, what are we doing here? Get out of here with that. Okay. So with Devante, with Lemon, with Wicks, in theory as a top three, you feel like they sort of have what they, what they need. I think so.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Yeah. And I think especially if you, if it's like a 3A, 3B situation with Wix and Hollywood, because I think you need that vertical element in there. Now expand this. Where do the tight ends come in? It's a good question. I think that when you're looking at the tight ends, and especially again, going to,
Starting point is 00:27:23 I'm thinking of the best versions of these multiple tight end teams. So I'm thinking like the, you know, the San Francisco lineup with, with Kittle and with Use Check, I think to the Rams last year with 13 personnel, I think to the Bears last year with like their multiple tight end personnel packages. In an ideal world,
Starting point is 00:27:39 all of those guys are functional blockers and pass catchers. And it's great to have like that dominant guy, you know, whether it's the Tucker craft, George Kittle, that's where Goddard plugs into that. But then you have those other auxiliary players
Starting point is 00:27:52 at that position that, yeah, like Kobe Parkinson, majors is an inline guy, but he can, he does good work as a receiver. He's got a little bit verticality to them. You think of all these other guys, like they do a little bit of everything, but they are functional and respectable in both areas. So when they are on the field,
Starting point is 00:28:10 if you're the defense, you don't know if it's run past. You don't know if they're going to spread you out if they're going to go condensed. Like you're, you are constantly guessing with every step of the pre-snap phase. But why can't Eli Stowers be part of, be thought of as part of the, you know, man-beater, zone-beater, a wide receiver package? He can. And that's, so that, That's part of the way that I look at that. And that's what, so we talked about this when he was first drafted, is that, okay, let's take the run block and let's put the block into the side. He is more man-beater than zone-beater right now.
Starting point is 00:28:42 Like I'm like, all right, yeah, like the athleticism shows up on a lot of that. But he doesn't have like that great sense. So you know, going back to like the Zach Hertz comparisons. Like because that's what a lot of people are like, oh, well, Zach Hertz wasn't a great blocker. Zach was a phenomenal route runner. Yeah. And like a great sense of space.
Starting point is 00:28:57 Stowers is nowhere close to that yet from the front. that end of it. And so he's, you know, shoehorned as a pass catcher and a zero as a blocker at that, you know, based off college film. So that would be the concern in terms of projecting that forward. Yeah, I mean, we haven't gotten like the one-on-ones versus like tight ends and linebackers or safeties and wider receivers and DBs. But yeah, and Stowers, like, we have to see it.
Starting point is 00:29:21 Because like, through two practices, it's only been two practices. I haven't seen very much evidence that he is going to be like the physical mismatch against NFL linebackers or safeties yet. Although one thing I'll say, and I'll say this as someone who is like charted all the one-on-one, like the tight end versus safety is like almost like useless from a, it's so rare that the safety is able to make a stop on that. It's like why the running backs and linebackers is so tilted in the favor of the offense.
Starting point is 00:29:49 I agree, but like that should be like your glimpse of like what it should look like. Yeah, exactly. It's like if he looks great in it, I'm not saying that's okay, it's time to carve out a roll. from him in the offense. It's more just like I still, I've not seen him really have like a big mismatch advantage in any context right now. So it'll just be good to see him at least do it there and then try and envision what it would look like in a better context. All right. Good conversation. Yeah. Yeah. We had it. I'm going to take a break. On the other

All right. Let's get into it. Go down the line, like one thing at a time. Okay. And then jump in as we go. You want to start, AJ?
Starting point is 00:32:37 You got a note? Um, no, you start. Great, go ahead. Well, it would have been Devante, but we already talked about him. So early on, I spent a lot of time over because I didn't really watch the offensive line at all yesterday. So I spent a good chunk of the first part of practice because it's like a lot of individual and then they get into the seven-on-sevons. I spent it over by the offensive line just to kind of take those guys in. You had Lane Johnson, first team, right tackle, Markell Bell, second team, as you outlined
Starting point is 00:33:06 yesterday, Cameron Williams, third team. Now, by the way, I will say this, when Cameron Williams went down, the way that they backfilled him, John Adjuku moved from third team left tackle to third team right tackle, and then Holland Pierce got to play a third team left tackle. Speaks well for a jukew. So both guys, Markle Bell obviously being a third round pick, Cam Williams was a fifth or sixth last year, right? Sixth.
Starting point is 00:33:28 Yeah, so a sixth round pick. Now, both guys, similar-ish kind of profiles, right? Where both guys were... Monster of a man. Yeah, huge body, one-year starter, a lot of potential. But, oh, if they had gone back next year, they would have been a first-round pick, like that kind of idea with those.
Starting point is 00:33:46 I will say there's a reason why Bell was a third-rounder and why Williams, you know, fell a little bit further, just seeing them, like, physically, like, for their size. And again, it was like kind of individual blocks and stuff like that. So I'm not, you know, we don't want to go crazy. But just seeing like the feet on contact and like how like fleet of foot both guys are, Bell far superior. Like he's just a different physical talent in a bigger body than, than Campbell.
Starting point is 00:34:13 Where you had been warned. What did you think about the legs? Yeah, I mean, I saw when I saw him up close the senior ball. And so it was about, you know, saw him a senior ball, saw me at the combine. So like I knew that going in. Um, yeah, I mean, it's, they definitely are going to continue to try and develop that, I think, you know, and that'll, that'll take time. Um, but I don't think it's going to be prohibitive for him early on.
Starting point is 00:34:35 I don't think so. Yeah, like it's, things that he's got to work through. Um, he was, I was, you know, I tried to take in a lot of the post practice development stuff. So just kind of bounced around like, all right, who's, who's working with who and who's putting in extra time, you know, that kind of thing. Uh, he was out there with Lane and, uh, you know, and a couple of the vets, uh, bet offensive lineman, um, you know, we heard Lane talk about him yesterday.
Starting point is 00:34:54 Yeah, I'd say, yeah. So, yeah, what did they say? So two quick things on this. The first one, what Lane said about Markle Bell, I think we should separate Cameron Williams out of this, to be fair, that he said that Markle Bell is really mature. He's definitely more mature than some rookies we've had here before, which, I mean, you guys can speculate on who that rookie might be.
Starting point is 00:35:14 I won't get into that. But yeah, I did think, Lane is always so honest on the podium. And he will give you, like, those little nuggets of truth every once in a while. Like, yeah, he's more mature than some of the rookies we've had before. It was funny. The second thing, while we're on the offensive line and the reps that they were getting after practice, I got to tell you, Beau,
Starting point is 00:35:31 Fran is a fan of Chris Cooper's, the poles. Oh, that he brings up to practice. So if you guys don't remember in the spring, Chris Cooper had like these, like wooden poles, these rods that they were using for like mobility work. Fran's a fan of them. It's all I'm working with them today. I liked it.
Starting point is 00:35:49 It was trying to teach, basically like, they take the pole and they put it around their shoulders and like hold their harms. So when they get in their stance in pass protection and get off the ball, it's to teach like a good posture coming off the ball. Yes, exactly.
Starting point is 00:36:03 So, you know, keeping your head up and, you know, it's good. I never seen that. I was good. Okay. What do you like, what do you make of the way that he has them line up
Starting point is 00:36:11 in the beginning of practice go one way and then come back? So it's like Lane's playing left tackle. Yeah. I didn't love that. Oh, really? Yeah, I don't love that. But I get it.
Starting point is 00:36:21 I mean, they're just getting reps. Yeah. It's an individual thing. But it just looks, funny. Yes, it does. Yeah. Okay. But yeah. I haven't seen as many props outside of the polls. Has there been? Yeah, because you said the medicine balls.
Starting point is 00:36:32 Medicine balls were there yesterday. Okay. Gotcha. Okay. Those are my two offensive line notes that I had for you. Okay. All right. Am I up? Yeah, why not? Go ahead. Okay. I noticed at some, at one point during practice,
Starting point is 00:36:48 I stopped making note of when there was pre-statt motion because it was every single play. And different types of motions. You know, jet sweeps, orbits, orbit returns, like, I'm sure Fran has more terminology for other motions that we saw. You know, yesterday I said on the show, like, I stopped noting under center because they were under center so often. Today it was motion. Like, I don't know. I think it's especially encouraging because this is like day two phase one install where they're still working on all the fundamentals. Like, I think, you know, if there was any shadow of a doubt, like motion's
Starting point is 00:37:18 going to be a huge part of what they do, which is interesting because Vic talked about how motion is kind of the new evolution from offenses in the NFL. He talked about how basically he doesn't ever say this, but his defense has forced offenses to get creative before the snap to try and get information from those alignments. So definitely a big part of what they did today. It's like motion in that sense is something of an antidote to Vic Van Joe's defense.
Starting point is 00:37:53 I plead the fifth. talked about how the ones and twos the twos held their own better than you might have expected a couple notes on that the first session of that was the first team offense against a second team defense Maximus Pully again getting reps with the twos next to Andre Sam and now this is like quarterback where it's one drill it's Tanner McKee the next drill it's any Dalton this like Polly does not get every one of these reps Michael Carter gets some of these reps but it's
Starting point is 00:38:24 a little bit interesting to me that he's that he's playing the next to andre sam already um and most of these were runs and the defense seemed to hold up well and then with the with the first team defense against the second team and offense this was a mckee session mckee actually looked pretty good ball never hit the ground ball never hit the ground i think three of the completions were to brit and covey yeah now those guys have obviously repped a lot together over the years. So it's not unlike Jalen and Devante where they know where each other is going to be. But Covey had a good practice. Yeah. McKee looked much better today. The third completion that he had to Covey, it was like on a stop route or a hitch route. I thought the arm angle from
Starting point is 00:39:04 Tarynne and McKee on that play was really, really nice. I made note of that. Especially because do feel like the pass rush had a real presence throughout the day. I feel like a lot of times when practices kind of feel like muddy and you don't have great notes, it's because the pass rush is kind of making every play feel like a little bit of a broken play. Yeah, the second play of that drill was Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis just absolutely collapsing the pocket for a sack and I was like and I said I think I said to Zinker I was like
Starting point is 00:39:28 Jake Majors is in hell right now like yeah or Jake Majors do they have a Jake Majors problem with the second team right now they might I think I think it's Willie's time soon oh really I was oh that's why you got Steamboat Willie oh nice teamboat Willie
Starting point is 00:39:44 nice for the audio listeners I do not realize what the Lidley hat right now yeah about Willie I thought it was Mickey too. It's a Disney World hat, but yeah. We can't see your hat. Yeah, I would be surprised if we don't see Willie Lampkin
Starting point is 00:39:58 get some second team center reps next week. So you think it's Willie Lampkin and it's not Drew Kendall just moving over to center? For now. Okay. Yeah. You mentioned he made the point about like when you have like the muddy practice like that you think more about the pass rush.
Starting point is 00:40:11 I actually think more about the back end. And it felt like today like it was more like, you know, the coverage like those guys where there was a little bit more indecision from the quarterback position. that held the ball more today than yesterday. Yeah, there was that one play. I think it was a flat route to Hollywood Brown, I want to say. And it was like five seconds into the play.
Starting point is 00:40:29 And it's just like, man, that took forever for him to get there. And that probably means he's going through his full progression and feeling like, okay, nothing's there. But yeah, definitely a better day for the defense, kind of like what you would have expected going into training camp. I think yesterday is probably the exception to like, you know, when you'd usually expect defenses to be ahead of offense right now. Were there any past breakups that stood out,
Starting point is 00:40:49 especially to you from the defense, maybe from like a second team corner, second year guy? Yes. Maybe going up against a tight end. None of them stood out to you? I plead the fifth. It was tight coverage.
Starting point is 00:41:03 It was tight coverage. I'm not going to be the one that informs the audience. I know, you know, I have to be objective. This is a nice play by Mac McQuil. I got to be a reporter. Cam Latu.
Starting point is 00:41:12 It would have been a good catch if he caught it. I think some people would call it a drop. I would just say it was good coverage by Macbush. No, I wouldn't call it a drop. I would call it a breakup. Yeah. It would be a great catch if he had held on to the ball. I wouldn't say great, but.
Starting point is 00:41:24 I put SMH in my notebook. Literally, he said the exact same thing to me after practicing. It would have been a great catch. That's great a great. It would have just been a catch. I put SMH in my notes on it, though. I knew I was going to hear about it. But you know, speaking of the hearing about things,
Starting point is 00:41:41 it's time that we relitigate something that we talked about on the yesterday's show. Great. I'm happy to explain to people how football works. You said Cole Payton, made the team after one practice, which is rich for a man who berated me for an entire 12-month window for saying that Dorian Thompson-Robinson had one nice practice. I said, he looks good out there. And I was told that I had him in Canton. I was told that I said he should be the starting quarterback by week eight. I was told, E.J., have you ever, if you watch practice, have you realized that this
Starting point is 00:42:11 is about more than just one practice session? Why don't you tell the people how Cole Payton looked today. If you think No, no, no, no, no. Answer the question. How did Cole Payton look today? What happened today in practice for Colpain? I will get there.
Starting point is 00:42:27 You've opened this can of words. If you think that a journeyman quarterback on his second team in the middle of training camp is equal to a fifth round rookie on that same team who's a developmental player
Starting point is 00:42:47 If you think those are analogous situations, we probably shouldn't call you the Eagles Insider anymore. I'm not saying that they are completely, you're doing the service to the audience. I didn't say that they were completely comparable, but I do think that both of these are examples of one practice for a quarterback can lead you down a lot of different roads. That's all I said.
Starting point is 00:43:04 And I do not take back what I said yesterday. Okay. I respect your conviction. Cole Payton technically through three interceptions today. Technically. One of them was a stone cold drop by Danny Graham. One one, yep, that went into AJ Epinessa's hands. Yep, yes.
Starting point is 00:43:23 The second one was one where he was clearly not on the same page with Dayquan Wright. It was a throw down the seam. Yep. It turned out to be a down to throw. I'm pretty sure that Dayquan Wright should have gone over the other shoulder there. I think it was, Payton thought he was running a post. He was running like a full seam. I could be wrong, or it was just a bad throw.
Starting point is 00:43:40 And then at the end of practice in the developmental period, he threw a bad interception on a short pass that Keishon and James knew be intercepted. It was not a good practice. for Col Payton. He's allowed to have bad practices. I didn't say yesterday that Col Payton is going to have a great summer. I didn't say that he's the second best quarterback on the team. I said he made the team. Wait, did I say those things about Dorian Thompson? I'm still talking. And you did say that he was better than. I said he was having a better summer than Kyle McCord. That's the lowest power ever. When you draft a player, a quarterback in the fifth round, I don't disagree with that.
Starting point is 00:44:16 is developmental, you want to see flashes. Yeah. Enough to keep him around. And what we saw yesterday are enough flashes, especially for a player who is a very good athlete for the position, and we're not going to see that in camp. Yeah. He was going to make this team.
Starting point is 00:44:32 And the fact that he's getting as many reps as he is getting, which is much different than we have seen them do before with their fourth quarterbacks, is just as much of an indication that he's going to make the team. That's right. So if you guys want to dunk on me, for saying that Cole Payton had three interceptions, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:44:50 You don't know what you're talking about. You were effusive yesterday. Just saying, you know, and I was right. And I am right. Let's not overreact to one practice. That's all I'm saying. That's all I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:45:01 I don't disagree. That's the point. I don't disagree with most of what you're saying. Is that I'm not in the business of telling you that something is done after one practice. That is done. We have seen more from Cole Payton in two practices than we saw from McCord all summer. Yeah. For sure, last.
Starting point is 00:45:15 That is that I got no issue with that. I completely agree. But that's all I said about DTR last summer and I heard about it for a year. That is not exactly true. We can dig up technically. That is not exactly true. You did several days. No, I didn't.
Starting point is 00:45:31 I did not. We did a turkeys to the thing where you had him making the roster. I did not have been making the roster. I do not recall that. We're going to have to go to the table. I do not recall having some turkeys on him making the roster. I feel like it was like 60 plus turkeys on him making the roster. I had him on my 53-man roster.
Starting point is 00:45:45 I think it was like we did a turkeys on who's going to win the third quarterback. Yeah, and I had him over Kyle McCord. But it was a, it was a lot of turkeys. Yeah, because he was better than Kyle McCord last summer. He was, you just said it. It was very funny, just steal this snippet of it. But it was a lot of turkeys. It was a lot of turkeys.
Starting point is 00:46:04 Just looking out the windows. Cole Payton on the team. I don't disagree with you. I just, you were a fusive yesterday. Let's let, let's let a couple practices play out before we declare 53 Manros. Or you can. listen to the person who knows what they're talking about. Back with more on the other side.

Starting point is 00:48:31 2025. I see you're taking this well. EJ, 80 turkey is on DTR, the second, uh... To beat out Kyle McCord, right? Mm-hmm. Okay. And then the next time I stand by that. 99 McCord 1 TTR. I stand by that. I stand by that. You stand by that. That DTR
Starting point is 00:48:47 had a better training camp than Kyle McCord last year? Yeah, I stand by that. There's a difference between had a better camp versus more likely to make the team. Yeah, I think it was significant enough still and 13 months later, that, or 12 months later, whatever it is, 11 months probably. Whatever.
Starting point is 00:49:03 I take DTR over Kyle McCord from last year. Let's get to the hand your dealt, presented by our friends, Parks Casino. Set this one up for you, CJ. I like this conceit. Yeah, so this is actually a shout out to Fran. It was an idea from Fran. You're going to be picking a player that if the Eagles could choose one player on defense
Starting point is 00:49:24 to have a fully healthy season for this season, who would they benefit the most from? You're only getting the one season from them. This isn't like a long-term projection. Which one would help the defense more? Nolan Smith, Jihad Campbell, or Drew McCuba. My instinct is Jihad Campbell. Now, I think you could make a kiss for Nolan,
Starting point is 00:49:45 especially knowing that Jonathan Grinard is injured now. Yeah, yeah. Makuba we have talked about is a huge bellwether player for this team and I think maybe affects their variance more than almost anybody. But I'm not expecting him to be great. I'm expecting him to be solid. And I think they could get by with Marcus Epps and whoever else and have a solid enough defense. I would also, I'm sort of talking in circles because I think they would be pretty good with Trotter. Jr. instead of Jahad Campbell.
Starting point is 00:50:20 Yeah. But I think Jihad affects their ceiling the most of those three. I think that's where my head, that's where my head went, thinking about the exercise a little bit. If you were, and I think if you were to take the big picture in mind as well, which we're not for the concede of the exercise, but if you were to say like, all right, like, you're Howie and you're thinking big picture, like Howie would want that to be Jihad Campbell. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:41 Yeah. For sure. I think I'm going to Kuba. I think I'm more worried about the floor. If he isn't healthy for most of the season, what it might look like. and yeah, you could maybe insulate those guys on the back end, but that's not necessarily like what you hear about Fangio systems and what they want their safeties to do.
Starting point is 00:50:57 And I think that McCuba also can affect the ceiling because if he has four or five interceptions this season, which I mean, that's a lofty goal. But still, if he can take the ball away a handful of times this year, that is still really going to move the needle for the upside of this defense. I wonder if, I mean, you know, knock on wood, not to speak it into existence, if McCuba suffered a real injury. I wonder if they would think about Dijin,
Starting point is 00:51:20 just for this season to get by. Put Michael Carter in the nickel. If Michael Carter is not up to the task of playing safety full-time, would they rather do that? Or is it more likely that you're exploring a trade? You're not really going to lean on somebody of the Wisniewski, Maximus Pulley, is a rookie, right? Is there like any merit to you lean further into base,
Starting point is 00:51:44 if that happens, where you can just have your four, great defensive backs on the field and like Jahad Campbell becomes like more of a coverage player for you. Yeah, I get the theory of you have more of your better players in the field that way. Yeah, it's just hard to match. I just don't think, yeah, I mean it's you have to respond to the offenses personnel. I was thinking Maximus Pully, kind of like the, he's like the anti-EJ,
Starting point is 00:52:17 minimus pushy. It's like the pushover millennial. Like there's, I don't, I'm not going to, I don't want to overstep. I'm not going to like ask too much. Minimus pushy. So you're saying I'm not pushing enough because you don't know. You don't know. You don't want to push it. Most people wouldn't call me minimis now.
Starting point is 00:52:34 Let's be honest. So it's because I have minimal pushing. Yeah. I don't hate that. You would not describe yourself as pushy. I don't hate that. It's funny. It's funny.
Starting point is 00:52:44 I guess I shouldn't air out this person's business. But someone asked me a question the other day about if they should apologize. for something and I said like, no, you don't need to be a pushover millennial about it. Personal growth for me, helping other people. A little bit worried about the pronunciation of that before. Pushy. It's important. The age is doing a lot of work.
Starting point is 00:53:11 A lot of work on that one. How about Nolan in that conversation? I think you could make the argument that if of all three of those, if they were to hit their ultimate upside, Nolan's impact would be greatest as a pass rusher. Like if he's like, you know,
Starting point is 00:53:31 if he becomes exactly what you thought they would be as a first round pick, yeah, I mean, that would embrace that, I think. You think he's gonna higher upside than John Campbell? Are we factoring in like the premium position? Yeah, I think so. Yeah, I think so.
Starting point is 00:53:51 I'm still, I know. I'm bullish on Nolan. I'm interested. I also think, I mean, from this exercise's perspective, they would be fine. I mean, not fine. But like, you could get through the season with the three defensive tackles, Jalix,
Starting point is 00:54:09 whatever you get from Grenard, and Epinessa and Ebikati, it's like, there are top five defenses that have a front like that. I will say, I don't love that Nolan still, like he's got the elbow brace, he's got the mechanical thing out. Yeah, that's not great.
Starting point is 00:54:23 I was wondering, just thinking about like contract situations. I wonder if he goes down. We'll see what happens. I am very curious to see how his contract situation plays out. It could be very like Ojalari, who was a second round pick. You know, they were drafted probably like, you know, 15 spots apart in their respective drafts. You know, and injuries obviously were a big factor. If he's not able to stay healthy, that would be three out of four seasons where he was unable to stay healthy.
Starting point is 00:54:47 So this is a big year for Nolan, big picture. No doubt about it. Yeah. All right. close the book on the hand you're dealt. We will fold the hand we've been dealt. Yes, not. All right, we got more notes to get through here.
Starting point is 00:55:01 Yeah. What's on your list, Francis? Yesterday, we talked about the cornerback duo, Quinyan Mitchell and E.J's boy, Rick Wollen, and how they kind of flipped, they flipped sides throughout the course of the day. Today, correct me from wrong, it felt like Quinyan was solely at left corner
Starting point is 00:55:20 and Rick was solely at right. So they changed in terms of how that rotation. And also, again, continuing to have them both rotate out. Yes. Yep. Johnson Jones involved. I thought that was notable. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:32 And Vic was, was Vic asked about this? About. Quina, I'm sorry. Post practice, Quignan was asked about whether he wants to continue following elite receivers. And, you know, Quinyon is not the most talkative guy. He said he likes that challenge. but it's not like he's demanding it right now. And he didn't really give an indication on what it will be.
Starting point is 00:55:56 I got two notes from the post-practice press conferences. Okay, we're talking to three corners. Milata. Jahad Campbell. DeHad Campbell and Dallas Goddard. And Dallas Goddard. You are correct. So quickly on Jahad Campbell, going back to his health,
Starting point is 00:56:11 he said that he had a procedure on his right shoulder this offseason. He had a similar procedure on his left shoulder last offseason going into his rookie year. the right shoulder bothered him throughout the season and he had to get the procedure done there. He said he feels good now, obviously, going into this training camp. Ian Jalen Carter, double shoulders. I know, yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:29 I mean, I don't know if it's the same injury, but I mean, these guys play a lot of steps in college. And then Q's about Q, which I coined earlier today. So my requiemann note, I got to his press conference a little late, as most people did. He was in the mixed zone, so people were kind of coming in and out of his scrum.
Starting point is 00:56:49 And as a result, he got to ask the same question. Not once. It was about Quinnian Mitchell, about, you know, just how great is it? You know, what have you been seen from Quinnion, Mitchell? How impressive is he up close? That got to ask that question, not once, not twice, but actually three times. And on the third one, he literally, because the, each of the second, the second and third time, he goes, like, the question is framed. Like, sorry if you already asked this.
Starting point is 00:57:13 And by the third time, he's like, yeah, you're the third one. Do I have to answer it a third time? And one of the Eagles' representatives basically is like, yeah, you should answer it the third time. So at the end of his presser, it was Ruben Frank, actually, who asked him a fourth time, jokingly. Like, oh, so what do you think of Quinnian? Oh, okay. And Rick Wollin really enjoyed that moment at the end of practice there. I like that.
Starting point is 00:57:37 I enjoyed Jordan Milato's jab at Ruben. Oh, yeah, because Rube left, Jordan Milana's press conference, I think, to go to Rick Wollon. Oh, Goddard. Yeah. Yeah. And Jordan Milano was like, that's all right. I won't take it personal. I won't be looking your way anymore.
Starting point is 00:57:52 I also left. I stayed. We're teammates. We got two of us. I'm not going to stop you from talking to Milata. Well, I mean, no, it's not about, I'm not trying to play favorites. I was not seeing the front row.
Starting point is 00:58:06 It's a very easy thing to do. I did get some insight. May or may not be related to this. Landon Dickerson has slimmed down. He looked like he did. I thought I was one of my notes. Yep. Confirmation.
Starting point is 00:58:16 Nice. Do we know anymore? No, we'll talk to them. Although he's not going to tell us anything. I mean, let's be real. I'll tell you what. Wanting to hold that for a second because we're going to find out
Starting point is 00:58:31 what Fran has to say in overtime. About you time, I guess I could have said. No, I thought you were going to have overtime. Yeah. Your favorite quarterback on the roster? See, the Lions first round pick last year Tyleek Williams said he lost 50 pounds 50 five zero really yeah like this off season yeah now wasn't he kind of like a smaller defense attack no he was like a three
Starting point is 00:59:01 you know it was like 320 like something like that yeah like he was like an athletic big man coming out of Ohio State last year now that's like one of those things like all right like did you finish the year at like 340 but even then like 340 to 290 like that's drastic yeah I saw that was one of the things I noticed um trying to think if I've got anything else here. The defense sniffed out a couple screens. Jordan Davis had a quote-unquote sack on one and then Nolan Smith sniffed out a tight end screen late in the day
Starting point is 00:59:28 to Dallas Goddard was in his face talking trash afterwards. I enjoyed that. Stoughts about the... Stone Smart had a nice catch. Did? Remainty Dalton. Dallas Goddard had a nice catch on a dig route early in practice and I wanted to ask you about this friend. I know I mentioned the motion earlier. It felt like there were a lot of times where they motion across
Starting point is 00:59:48 the formation only to kind of like go back against the grain post-nap. Like they'd motioned toward the sideline and then they run like a crosser the way they just came. I noticed that. I don't know if that was something that you made note of.
Starting point is 01:00:01 It's one of those things where like I got to be able to see what the, so when he comes across the formation is he like now the furthest receiver outside and then comes back inside because that messes with like pattern match responsibilities for the DB. So that's not seeing it in the individual case.
Starting point is 01:00:18 Yeah. Is Watkins to the nice cap? Match in seven-on-sevon. Another one, that's two days in a row where he stood out. A lot of chatter about Cuez Watkins, like among the media. Oh yeah? Media members that I was steed with. They're like, how is he still here?
Starting point is 01:00:32 I don't mind in Cues Watkins. I like Quiswackens. I like Quiswai. Here's a conversation I had with a media member today. Hmm. It hasn't really been talked about. Do we think the Tush push is still a thing in this offense?
Starting point is 01:00:43 Hmm. I don't see why not. I wouldn't see why not either. I mean, they're under center more. You know, some of the, obviously like Jeff Stoutland gone, gone, new office coordinator and play caller. Like, is it still going to be a thing?
Starting point is 01:00:56 Yeah, who teaches it this year? Like, is Chris Cooper teaching it? He's got to learn it first. I don't know. That is a good question. They did do it in Green Bay, but famously they did it with Tucker Kraft. They would bring him in motion and do it with him.
Starting point is 01:01:13 Yeah, that was interesting conversation. I was with one of the local beats. It wouldn't shock me if they still do it. it but maybe they aren't quite as good at it because they're not hopefully not quite so reliant on yeah playing to get to fourth and one um decent amount of zone reads today i noticed a couple of those like runs from the shotgun where it looked like jalen was reading somebody and handed the ball off to tanker sayquan another note but yeah i think that's that's my my notebook question about um uar in the chat after talking about him yesterday again you know two or three snaps is what he got at the very
Starting point is 01:01:52 in a practice developmental period. I was watching him and Joshua Weiru because Weiru is also going through this same thing. Yeah. They're still, they don't really know what they're doing. No. But there was one snap where UR did come off the ball,
Starting point is 01:02:07 fired off the ball pretty hard. You know, it had no effect on the play at all, but you just got to see the explosiveness. Yeah. And I was just hoping to see the explosiveness. We got to see it at least once. I saw a moment where Jalen Carter was like kind of showing UR. Bernard some pass rush moves.
Starting point is 01:02:20 I tried to get a video of it, Mark L. Bell, just walked right in front of my frame. And it's like, oh, he has a tendency to do that. You know, he can block a, block an angle now. He can block a frame now. But yeah, UR was on bag duty during special teams drills today. Yeah. I saw him going through some workout stuff afterwards, after practice.
Starting point is 01:02:44 And just, you know, athleticism stands out. We also saw them do the, at the end of practice, the full circuit where everybody on the team. Catch his ball. has to catch balls. Very strange. We saw that in the spring, right? And unfortunately, we got hit in the helmet. I took it right off the face mask.
Starting point is 01:03:01 Yeah, it just went right through his hands. So I enjoyed watching those guys go through it because it's obviously very unnatural for most of them. Yeah. But yeah, he took that one right off the dome. Okay. Anything else?
Starting point is 01:03:12 Got a buzzer-beaten super chat from Binkleberg. Bucer from Dinkleberg says, please do not forget about everyone's favorite new training camp segment, the Gush Bush. Bush today working only at safety
Starting point is 01:03:27 with the third team in developmental periods next to Wisnski I don't believe he got on the field otherwise obviously
Starting point is 01:03:36 we are very early any moments for camp crush for your like something to file away for later of John had
Starting point is 01:03:50 a couple little things but not nowhere near not having an inkling. No. Was today tough because they were on the separate fields? Yeah, today was tougher because
Starting point is 01:03:58 they were mostly further away. Yep. Like a couple like minor things as DBs are going through individual drills. You want to see the way they move. Like, oh, okay. Yeah, we'll file that one away. Just to see, just to see. But nothing,
Starting point is 01:04:14 got it at least. Nothing notable. Got at least see them put the pads on. Was it last year? The heart wants with the heart wants? That was last year. Yeah, you just, you, you called me right out. There was no hiding it.
Starting point is 01:04:25 It was like being in front of the class, getting called out on my crush. There was no, I couldn't, I couldn't deny. Is that it? Was there an extra super chat, Lindsay? That we missed earlier, is that all of them? And now we got Alton.
Starting point is 01:04:39 Yeah, shout out to Alton. Shout out to Alton. Great. Yeah, come say hi to say practice. We saw Liam from the British and Irish Eagles, too. On day one. Yeah. Shout us out.
Starting point is 01:04:54 Shout us out. Thank you to the sick of. That's all I got. Back tomorrow, two o'clock. No practice tomorrow, but we will still have a show for you. And then there is practice on Saturday. We will not have a show, but EJ and I will have a quick video to check out on the PHOI channels to give you a recap
Starting point is 01:05:15 of what happens on Saturday. So we've got you covered. Don't worry about it. Thank you, Lindsay. Thank you everybody else for watching and listening. Let us know what you think about DTR, I guess, in the comments. otherwise we'll see you tomorrow at 2 o'clock and as always we love you be thinking about this all day
