Hello, everybody and welcome to the PHS Eagles podcast on a big Saturday live from the X-Pinity Mobile Studio and presented by Ashley Bowulf, E.J. Smith, Fran Duffy. We are back home after witnessing a nice lengthy practice for the Eagles on this Saturday, day eight of training camp practices a full scrimmage day for about two hours. The Eagles went after it. We're going to tell you everything you need to know about what happened. on the field. We've got some news at the top. E.J. Let's start with you. Yeah, we heard from Lane Johnson after practicing. He informed us that this is more likely than not going to be his final season with the Eagles. Obviously, he's considered retirement over the last few off seasons, and I know he considered retirement heavily this offseason. But, you know, following this,

you know, absence from the team for four practices, he came back and made it pretty clear today. You know, you said he addressed his teammates and said that he is looking at it and planning for this to be his final year with the Eagles. You know, it puts to, it'll be the final act of one of the greatest careers, maybe the greatest career in franchise history. And it's a significant, you know, it's a significant announcement that will send shockwaves through the Jefferson Health Complex. You know, all of the organization has already kind of been planning for life after Lane Johnson, but I think this gives it a clarity. So there's a lot to unpack with Lane. Yeah, the big news out of today's camp, even though it was a busy practice and, you know, a lot of, I had a lot of notes. The big thing is definitely Lane Johnson addressing his situation and kind of laying out that this will be his final year.

And obviously, Fran, this comes on the heels of Lane, having been away from the team for about a week, essentially, missing four or five practices for undisclosed personal reasons that were excused by the team. but certainly this was a different tenor from Lane than we heard from him when he spoke at the beginning of camp when it was really mostly about how exciting this offense was, how excited he was to get a chance to play in it, and exciting he was excited he was to play for Sean Mannion. You know, obviously whatever occurred over the past two weeks has changed his outlook a little bit, I think, Fred.

Yeah, I think that he... Or clarified it at least. Yeah, I think that because he did kind of re-clify that today you know he still said he said i'm still excited about i think it was more just you know kind of a a big picture look at what his future was and um you know obviously it's good to hear that everything is like yeah everything's okay with lane it's good to see him back out on the field uh you guys talked about yesterday that uh he didn't take part in team drills yesterday he took part in team today uh he did rotate in a decent amount with mark kelbell snaps yeah exactly he'd go in for if

the if the offense was out there for 10 snaps he would go for the first five, you know, something like that. So it was good to be able to see number 65 back out there. And, you know, it looks like this will probably be it. The swan song for one of the best tackles in NFL history. Well, I mean, listen, when we talk about Lane, there's so much to talk about, aside from the franchise great that he is, he is obviously bringing a lot of perspective, given the mental health stuff that he's gone through, is a very thoughtful person. And, you know, the way that he framed it, which is, I think, something that we can all appreciate. It's something I think about probably too much, which is, like, you know, you can't get back time, right?

And he's talking about, you know, he lives away from where his children are. His oldest child's 13. He said both of his parents are going through some health stuff, you know. So when he's away working, he doesn't get time with the family. And you probably feel that more acutely when you go back to training camp after you're coming off the summer of getting to be with your family. And he's not asking for anybody to feel sorry for him. He said, you know, that's what parents do.

They work. And, you know, obviously he's very grateful for the job that he has had. But I think we can all appreciate the perspective of that. Yeah, absolutely. You know, one thing I wanted to make sure we hit on in this while we discuss this is just how much lane has been through throughout his career overall, but especially in the last two or three years. You know, his mother has been going through cancer treatments for years. You know, my former colleague Jeff McLean reported about that a few years ago

and about how Lane draws a lot of strength from seeing the strength that his parents have. And Lane mentioned that his father has health complications as well. So in tandem with, you know, what you just mentioned, the fact that his kids are getting older, he said his oldest is turning 13 and that's time that you just don't, you know, you don't get back in time that, I know that that's been something that weighs heavily on him. You add that to the fact that he dealt with the, you know, the Liz Frank injury last year. And, you know, I remember, you know, going back to the end of last season hearing from people who were very uncertain about if Lane would come back because of how deflating last season was for him the way that it ended. And then overall, and this is something he alluded to to some degree today, too, like, you know, like the lack of recognition at times really.

So I think all that ties into what has been a trying 12 months, trying few years for Lane. And, you know, I think that that is a big reason why. Now he's looking at the season as a way to kind of put it into a great career, give him some clarity, and make him feel better about going into this year thinking, you know, about the transition that lays ahead for him. I'm thinking about the tandem of those two things, E.J., because, you know, Lane talked about how some of the league-wide ranking things, you know, they get stuff wrong. And, you know, he doesn't feel probably like he is respected enough.

Now, I mean, he did miss a lot of time last year. So I think it's less about last year necessarily. But you think about if I'm going to make these sacrifices to still put my body at risk and miss time away from my family at this age and still I'm not going to get recognized for it, like then you can you can sort of see the wheels turning like what's the point. Now, you know, there's there's you're playing for your teammates. and there is much more to it than that, but you can understand how that might mess with you a little bit.

Yeah, I think that Lane has been pretty open about the role that legacy plays and why he is playing this long into his career. And he has been open about being frustrated before, about being left off of all pros or pro bowl teams, because I think he knows that those things help define your legacy. And again, he talked about it today, talked about taking umbrage with some of the ranking. So I think that there is something to that.

Like if you're going to come back and play another season, you want to make sure that it's in pursuit of the greater legacy. I thought it was a good question by you, you know, the importance of legacy for Lane Johnson. And you know, it was funny right when the press conference ended, Dom was there.

And Dom was just, you know, the first thing he says is best, best tackling football. Best tackling football. Best tackle in the NFL. Yeah. We talk about,

you know, we haven't, we haven't gotten to the nitty gritty of the Eagles 26 yet. We haven't gotten to the, you know, the top of it. But Lane is probably the guy among everybody else, all the all-time greats who have played for the Eagles this century,

is probably the only guy who has consistently been the best player in the league at his position for an extended period of time, aside from Jason Kelsey, and then you talk about sort of, okay, what matters more, center versus tackle. And I think Jason Kelsey would tell you that, you know, the answer is Lane on that front. Yeah. Okay, Brian Dawkins would be the other one. I would throw it to that mix as well. But Brian Dawkins put at the same time as Ed Reed.

You know what I mean? Not the whole time as Ed Reed. But yeah, I get to your point. And obviously, Lane is, you know, as I've said many times. I mean, he's been one of the best tackles in the NFL for the majority of his career. And especially when you look in the last, like several, the last few, I would say, he has been the best tackle in football and the most consistent. And especially when given, you know, the context of what he used.

he was asked to do within that scheme and how little help he was often given, or not given, I should say. So, you know, I think when you're looking at Lane from the big picture, that's why I call it, one of the best tackles in NFL history just a few minutes ago. He is worthy of that mantle. And I think he's been consistently undervalued outside of, you know, this, you know, tri-state area, you know, this fan base. I think that they're obviously early in his career, there was the right tackle discourse and whether he had as much value as left tackles across the NFL and he was a big part of kind of breaking that mold and breaking that that stigma around being a right tackle. And I think in general, like, I feel like, so full disclosure, in my personal Eagles 26,

when I did the rankings, I did have Lane number one. And I think the case I would make for him as number one is that, you know, I think when we eventually do look back on Lane Johnson's career, you know, regardless of how this season goes, although there is still a chapter left to be written, we will look back on it and think about all of the games that they won when he was in the lineup and how this era of Eagles football has been defined by winning and the fact that he is one of the few players in franchise history to have two Lombardi trophies. And I think it's not just that he has them, it's that he was one of the driving forces to affect that winning and that era of Eagles football. So that's to me what

makes him so great. He did it at a premium position. He did it at an incredibly high level. And, you know, the record, I know the record can be a little bit lacking in context, but it speaks for itself that when Lane Johnson was lined up for the Eagles, when number 65 was at right tackle, and this season when he is at right tackle for them, you feel really good about their chances of winning that game. So on the one hand, you have the knowledge that this is probably the last year with Lane. And I do think it's important to say probably because, you know, he said it's looking like this is my last year.

It's not a definitive thing, you know, this, I think it's a, you know, 95 turkeys kind of situation. Yeah. But you have the opportunity to put on it. to appreciate Lane in what is likely his final year for him to do the same thing, for him to get the adulation from the fans. Let's pivot that to the big picture conversation for the Eagles, roster building wise. How do you feel, I mean, they are not caught by surprise by this,

but how do you feel about the future of the right tackle position? I'll start with you, Fran. You know, we talked about this walking off the practice. they were walking back to off the practice field. And look, a lot of a, we gotta see what happens here with Markell Bell this year, right? I think that listening to the vets, you know, listening to Lane again to speak about Markell Bell today.

One of the best rookies I've ever been around, he said. Now he was focusing on like the level of professionalism from Markell in terms of being committed to things, not complaining. And he really made a point about seeing like that's been a problem with guys complaining a lot. So it was a little bit less about like, He looks like a future all pro kind of deal and more about this is a guy who is ready to handle his business.

Yeah. And I think that's important when you're talking about like the faith that people can have in him internally, you know, in the building. And yeah, like it hasn't been perfect for Markell Bell, but he also was a one year starter at college that, you know, did not have a long runway of experience and reps at the University of Miami. So I'm excited to see what he can continue to look like. You know, my guess is is that we will see him on the field at some point, you know, this year. So we'll get some live game reps for him. And I think that that experience will be big for him. I think when you're looking at Bell, we've talked endlessly about why he kind of fits

what Howie Roseman and the Eagles typically have hunted up at that position and typically at any position in the draft. But the reason why I don't think that, oh, man, if Lane retires, they're definitely going to be in the tackle market early on next year is number one, like Markell Bell's got a lot of these physical traits. And if he had gone back, it's the classic. If he had gone back to school, he probably. would have been a first round pick next year.

So that's the type of profile you're dealing with here with Markell Bell. The fact that we have, you know, I said earlier this week that it's a pretty good signal that they were already throwing them in with the ones. You hear the vets talking about them. These are all like good smoke signals that things are looking good for Markell Bell long term. Now we've got to see how what the rookie year looks like. But the other aspect of this as well is that this scheme in particular typically masks. So it allows you to not have to spend high, high picks on offensive line.

And when you look at the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers and the L.A. Rams and you look at it, they have not spent high, high resources on the offensive line position. Now, we don't know what Sean Man, is Sean Manion going to be here next year or not? If he's not here, is somebody else going to be running this same exact system or not, that all is really important. But to me, if it's the same system next year and if Mark Al Bell shows like good signs of life, Like I don't think that we need to necessarily say like, all right, offensive tackle is a dire, dire need to get someone to put opposite George Mila.

I mean, so much obviously depends on what they see from Markle Bell this season. No doubt about that. I hear your point about the offense. It's a good one. I don't really believe we will ever get to a place where Howie Roseman doesn't feel like that is a position worth premium resources. But it plays into do you need to force the pick? So, I mean, it's very dependent on Markell. And the other factor here is, well, is this Lina Diggerson's last year also?

Do you find yourself in a situation where you have to replace two starters? And then you talk about Tyler Steen as a free agent. Is that going to be three starters? And so there could be a lot of work to do this offseason. Well, that actually is the one thing that has changed for me since this morning, is that I now, I feel stronger that Tyler Steen will be bought back on some kind of contract. I was thinking about that. If we do the exercise you talked about, if we do the early flu world order,

I think a Steen return becomes more likely. And honestly, a big pivot point for the three of us if we were to keep score of this one moving forward. Because, yeah, I think, especially because that's another dark horse element of this, Steen's got tackle experience and hasn't looked terrible when he's played tackle in camp over the course of his career. So that's another thing to keep in mind. All right. I'm going to play the other side of this. it's like we're talking about one of the greatest players in franchise history and we've seen what it looks like when you have a not just like a competent starter not just like even a plus starter like one of the best at their position playing at that spot and really playing at both the tackle spots I don't think that Howie Roseman is going to just move off of that value that valuation that he has at that position and I agree that like Markell Bell has been ahead of where I would have expected him to be and I do think that they're bullish on him uh you know being ahead of schedule.

but when they drafted Markell Bell, we talked about this is more of like a Fred Johnson replacement than it is Elaine Johnson. Yeah, right now. Yeah, but what I'm saying is I think that a good year for Markle Bell this season probably puts him in the conversation as like, could he be, you know, the heir apparent to Lane Johnson. It's hard to envision them going into the drafting.

Like, we're good at right tackle because Markle Bell had a good rookie season. I'm not saying that they think they're good, but they will say this too. with like, Howie Roseman does not draft backups. They don't, they don't draft guys with the idea. Like every player they draft is because we think this guy can start. So you drive. I don't know. I think we're all excited about Mark Helbel.

I want to pump the brakes on like he is the success. I don't. I'm having a small man argument. You're not saying he's at. He's a lot. Like, oh, well, then like, do you guys are saying like Landon Dickerson might be replacing Landon might be a higher priority. No, no, no, no.

Don't put words in my mouth. You're not listening. Oh, you want to replace Landon. I think that's like, that's reversed. That's like not the order of operations. I didn't say it would be a higher priority at tackle for you before you figure out who's going to be your guard. I think I still think they will use an early round pick on a tackle this time next year. What I honestly think is now that I think about it is there is a distinct, it depends where they pick.

Because there's, I don't think that they will, if Markell Bell looks the way that they hope that he looks, there will not be much difference between Markell Bell and a late first round tackle. Okay. that's fair. If it's a disaster season and they end up with a top 10 pick, then I think you're talking about that's the kind of premium resource that Howie would use on a future bookend tackle. That's kind of how I feel.

I just, I see it in the chat. Like, Bell is the future. I just like, let's relax a little bit. You got to see it a little bit. That's true.

Yeah, like we need to see it. And it's honestly, whether we see it in his rookie season, enough for them to not, at least like bring in competition for him again it's it's an important position i just i'm i'm having a hard time after what eight days of camp i mean like yeah mark al bell's the guy the history of the position tells us that elite tackles do not come in the third round they come in the first 20 picks

yeah right and the eagles but that could be but marco bell could be a starting caliber tackle and then that doesn't that you know that lessens the need of having to force a pick it's i mean it's a very it's a silly thing for us to even argue about because it's going to be so dependent on what happens over the next four months and then where they pick. Like there's a lot at play here. But obviously, this is a problem than how he has to solve, whether it's by people on the roster or not.

We're back on the PHY Eagles podcast, Bo, E.J. and Fran time now for the big takeaway, presented by Xfinity and our players of the day. Fran, why don't we let you go first? Well, it was a big day for the run game. It was a lot of under center, a lot of downhill runs. We saw some variety there, but it was a lot of, it was a heavy focus on the run game. So I thought, you know what? There were a lot of options for me today.

I thought about going. There were a couple defensive players that caught my eye or a couple offensive players, but it's rare in camp that we have the ability to say, you know what, the running back looked really good today. And I thought Seekoine Barkley had a lot of really good moments today. Okay. It started in the opening drill. There was a, let me pull it up here. Yeah, opening period, good bounce to the left on second and 10, went for a nice game.

First play of the second period. They run, duo, downhill, 12 personnel, good run, well blocked. He gets to the second level, nice and clean, really decisive. A bunch of really good thuds, like impact with linebackers in the hole where you can see how hard he's running. Low red zone, he gets down clean in for a touchdown where Cooper DeGine kind of pulled up and was like, yeah, I don't want any of that smoke. That one was very funny because they're calling the plays. And Nick, you know, it looked like it was definitely a touchdown. And it was definitely a touchdown given how hard he was running.

Yes. And Nick calls out, all right, third and two, third and two. And the whole offense was like, no, no, no, no, no. That was a touchdown. They walked off the field. That was like, no, not going to happen. It's like one of those things where, you know, because I think about this all the time where, you know, in training camp where people were like, oh, well, he was, there was

a defender right there who would have been tacked. It's like, yeah, let's take one Barkley. Like he's got the ability to shake out of another attack. That was certainly one of those. Just because Cooper's in reaches like it's one hand on him at the two-yard line. Does not mean that that's going to be stopped yet. Exactly right. But honestly, my favorite run came a few plays later.

They flipped the field. They went from backed up from the shotgun. First play of the backed up session. Outstanding lateral cut. Jehad Campbell's coming on an agap pressure. He went, he showed really good juicy and go bounce to the left. He gets up to the second level, took off. so see you later, see a later.

Very next rep, under center duo, another jump cut, hits the second level. So I thought, I thought Sequin, he looked spry today. He looked decisive today. He was running hard, just that he always runs hard, but it was a good day for Seekwan. He was also feisty today. Yeah, you know, that touchdown one we were talking about. Like, he was doing some John there. He and Q got like a little bit kind of a playful push back and forth.

But yeah, I think Sequin, when it's, when it's, when he wants you to know that there's no chance you had of tackling him in a situation like that. Yeah, he's gotten. more of that like alpha energy on the field than you would maybe expect like you know we were talking about this on the sideline like sequin is probably high on the list of guys who could get into a fight during training camp i don't know if he's high on the list of like guys who would start a fight you know he seems like kind of presidential uh but again like when he's out there he is constantly talking to guys he is constantly like you know i think jemal singleton had to tell

him to be quiet a couple of the practices ago because he was yelling at somebody so yeah he is an intense practice player for sure yeah i think that's a good call out friend he did he looked he looked good to that one that when they were backed up like that could it could have been like a 98 yard touchdown well i i think it would have been i think that would have been a 98 i wrote that literally literally literally let's see you later like i thought to me like i was that was a big that was really nice the second the one right after i thought that maybe jordan davis would have blown that one up but it was a it was a it was a good one yeah davis was one he was on my short list well then let me give you my practice player oh oh

You have the same one too, EJ? No, I almost went Davis. I went someone else. Mine is Jordan Davis because, yes, there was a lot of running work today. And I think it is, I think we can probably make too much of this. But in the context of evaluating that Jordan Davis blew up a bunch of runs today, let's just remember, it was like 90 degrees outside. Yeah.

It's the second day in a row they've practiced in full pads. It's the dog days of summer. And he's getting like extra reps too. because what they would do is when it was like base with the ones he'd be out there. But then he also took a few reps on like third down with the twos just to sort of get him those, those pass rush reps. And he didn't look worse for where. You know, he is in good shape.

There's no doubt about it. He is one of the leaders on this team. And yeah, when they do a lot of running work, there's going to be a lot of plays where Jordan Davis is just ruining the play. Couldn't agree more. He had good pass rushing reps in the one-on-ones too. I had him down a swim move against a Cam Juergens quickset. And then kind of like the worst, it's kind of like the one we've seen here. This has definitely been laid out before.

Maybe it was my you friend, like the paradox of blocking Jordan Davis in those one-on-ones because Cam Jurgens tries to quick set him. So he doesn't get a head of steam and he loses on quickness because Davis gets right by him. The next time Jurgens kind of gives them like the drop set. And now it's the trains on the tracks and he gets bull rest into the quarterback. And I wrote in my notebook like DejaVille. Like every year we get that one rep of Cam Jorgans where he gives Jordan Davis chance to get up ahead of steam and he just gets destroyed with a bull rush. So yeah, it was good to see him in the past rushing one-on-ones as well.

Yeah, my favorite Jordan Davis one, I think it was the first play of the Red Zone period. I ran duo. So it's a bunch of double teams along the offensive line. So four hands on Jordan Davis and he like stayed square, state stout and still grabbed Sequin with one arm. But as he cut back, I was, that was my favorite Davis play for the day. Yeah. And in there are times where he is manhandling Cam Juergens, um, which is, I guess a bigger picture conversation, but Jordan Davis was, uh, was, was,

was very, very good today. All right. Over to you, E.J. I almost went Jordan Davis. I almost went Jalick's hunt, but instead I settled on Jalen Carter. Oh, you like I just want to keep calling out that Jalen Carter has a few plays every practice, where he just remind you how bad he is. You know, there's just every, every, it's a couple of plays.

It's a sprinkling. It's like, I'm one of the only guys in the league that can do this. And he had really two of them, but the one I want to highlight is late in practice, he's going up against Cam Juergens again. And we can talk about Cam a little bit later here. Jalen Carter, like it almost feels like he teleports. Like it's a swim move where he's kind of laterally shifting. Like he's got so much explosiveness when he does that move.

Like whoever it is, don't stand a chance against him. So he teleports past Cam Juergens, and nice into the backfield and bats down a pass from Jalen Hertz. And it's just one of those plays again where it's like how many guys in the NFL can make that play. So, you know, it's not like he's wrecked an entire practice yet, but he wrecks, I'd say, one session every day, it feels like. And I think that's incredibly encouraging. It's, you know, you're getting, you're getting a Jalen Carter that looks a lot more like the 2024 version. I had him down for setting up a morrow a Jomo sack early in practice too.

He knifed into the backfield. I don't know if he would have gotten the sack, but OJamo had a nice second effort to get it there. So, you know, it was a really good day from Jalen Carter. He looks like a game wrecker out there. I know my guy is doing really well. Why is he your guy? Someone had to remind you guys, you know, you guys were so quick to kind of poo-poo Jalen Carter's upside and like, you know, where he ranks in the defense attack of pecking order in the league.

And just have to remind you. I don't remember that. Oh, you know, when I came back from vacation. I feel like this was an EJ thing. And I don't know. Because no one's been higher on Jalen Carter than me. I would like to point out that Jalen Carter is exactly my type of player. So he's actually my back.

Yeah, yeah, because he's a football player. So he's exactly your type of player. There were a couple places today where Jalen was taking the play off. And it's got like you could, you could see it. But it's okay if you see like, you know, the three play stretch of him, you know, just dominate. So yeah. Yeah, there have been there have been real snapshots. this summer where Jalen Carter looks special.

Can I say the other guy where I was this close to go with this other player? There was someone I named, was it earlier this week or last week, Jahad Campbell deserves praise today. Jihad was awesome. And there was good examples of him, like just coming downhill, like one-on-one with Sequin Barclay. And again, it was a lot of like downhill runs. So a lot of a lot of opportunity for Jordan Davis, Moro, Ojamo, Jalen Carter, Zach Bond, Jihad Campbell. Like it was running right to the teeth of the core of the Eagles defensive front.

And there were a bunch of plays where it's Jihad Campbell meeting Seekwon Barkley one-on-one on the hole. And Seekwon is obviously like extremely gifted, right? And just so powerful, so explosive. There were like three or four times where he and Jihad met in the hole. And Jihad did not give up ground. And it was like, man, like that is really, really impressive from Jihad Campbell. So yeah, I think the second year linebacker deserves some, he deserves some pub today. It's a good call out.

He looked very good today. He did get at the very end of practice. They have like a little sequence. Offense is down eight with 14 seconds left. They got a score touchdown from like the 20 yard line. And it's a scramble drill. He gets, he ends up one-on-one with Dallas Goddardt as Jalen Hertz is rolling right.

And Jailen just puts a beautiful, like perfectly lofted ball. Jihad Campbell is all over Dallas Goddard. And Goddard just goes up and makes the play. It's like just there was a, perfect throw in the perfect play by Goddard. Jaha just happened to be there. It was, it was good coverage, given how much of a scramble drill it was,

but he did give up what was the quote-unquote game-tying touchdown. My favorite was before that was Nick Siriani giving Jalix, Jalick's Hunt some real good. Everybody, Jaylix doesn't like the scoring system. He's been bitching about it all day long. And then I think he was, and then I think Nick was talking to Clint Hurt, like remind him on the head coach or something. I don't know what he said.

I don't know what that was. At first, I thought he was, like, calling out Clint Hurt, and I'm like, Nick, Nick, you know what those problems. Like of all the ways that Sariani's head coaching tenure in Philadelphia ends, it's just buried in the dirt by Clint Hurt. You got to see the, there's the feature that the Eagles put out on Clint Hurt this week. Very, very good. If you haven't seen it, go check it. How's an assault charge coming? All right.

Back in the PHLAIG's podcast, Bo, E.J. and Fran, good to see Dinkleberg making it happen, making it rain. Dinkleberg double dip. I think that's an accidental double dinkle. But we will address that in a second, dink man. Let's talk Jalen Hertz first. And I'll tell you what, Jailen made some good throws today. And I think it speaks more to how well I think he's played this summer that today was my least favorite day of his. But there were like three throws today that worried me a little bit.

And I know that some people have, you talked about it, E.J., you know, sort of the throws across his body running to his right. I have not been worried about those. Those have been fine to me. But two really dangerous throws today that he made. One was one that was intercepted at the end of practice by Zach Bonn. This is a ball over the middle of the field. And he's trying to throw it to.

We all disagreed about who was targeted. One of us thought it was Hollywood Brown. One of us thought it was Elijah Moore. One of us thought was Taywix. But he doesn't see that that Zach Bonn is hanging around on the other side. of that middle zone and Zach Bonn makes the Zach Bonn play where it's a diving interception which to be fair is like one of the sexiest things you can see on the football field when when Zach Bonn reads that zone and then like picks it clean that far away beautiful play by Bonn but when you talk about

jalen throwing it over the middle of the field that's a thing to keep in mind I didn't like that and when the one that was even worse was when they were backed up there was a play there on sort of the left hash and jalen he didn't his his his His feet were not under him. He's just sort of flat-footed, threw it out to the right, and Elijah Moore was all the way on the right sideline. And we're talking about a throw that's like a five-yard throw, but it's completely across the field.

And the ball just dies, and it's asking to be picked off. It wasn't. It's sort of, I think Elijah Moore actually did catch it right at the ground, but it might have been, it might have bounced. And that's a throw. You cannot make that throw unless you are firing that ball. There was another play when he was rolling right where the ball, he was throwing to Goddard.

It was another completion. And again, I understand that I'm complaining about completions, but it was one where the ball just died when it got there. There were just a couple plays today where I felt like Jalen didn't fully get his feet underneath him. And the kind of thrower that he is, he needs to get his feet underneath him. So I'm sure he's going to clean that up.

It's not a big picture of concern. But there were enough throws today that made me worried that I just was not my favorite. I think it probably is just illustrative that he's making a big transition. and that he actually probably is ahead of where we would have expected in terms of the footwork. We know how important it is in this scheme. I think his footwork has been pretty good so far through training. I agree.

Where he has been in sequence. I actually had the opposite takeaway from Jalen, which I wrote down one of my takeaways from practices. If you had told me that Devante Smith and Mackay Lemon were sideline for a week, I would not have guessed that the past game would look as good in a scrimmage setting and a call it period like it was today as it did. You know, I think that Jalen Hertz and Sean Manny and deserve credit because it's not just, well, honestly, they're both important. It's two different types of completions we're seeing. It's like the timing routes, the dig routes and the seam routes up the middle of the field where Jalen has been really consistent and really accurate throughout the summer. But also the ones that kind of require no talent or required speed, but not a lot of like synchronization or anything like that.

Like we've seen a lot of completions to Elijah Moore and Hollywood Brown on shallow cross. crossers and, you know, little leak routes, flat routes or stop routes, you know, like a little four yard underneath routes. Like, I think there's been a good, it's a good, it's been a good, it's been a good balance of like the hard stuff, which takes arm talent and route running, but also just stuff that the scheme is making available for Jalen and he's been able to find it because he has been in sequence. So actually I felt good about the way the offense looked today. You know, in a scrimmage setting like that, I think the fact that Jalick's hunt was unhappy with the scoring system because the offense was getting, you know, just as much probably scoring as a defense in

that setting. I think that's encouraging for the Eagles offense. Yeah, I liked what I saw from Jalen today. I agree with those couple throws, the one, the Elijah Moore one in particular was out of empty and the footwork just wasn't great on that individual play. I'm willing to live with the Zach Vaughn play, mainly because Bond made a phenomenal play. And I just think with how much more he's going to be attacking the middle of the field, like that's kind of the price of doing business is you're going to get a couple of those as well. There were a few plays that he did make where I was like, okay, I really like this. I agree with what you said, Bo, about the throwing across his body.

You know, even the touchdown of Goddard say it wasn't across his body, but like those plays outside of structure within the, you know, within these practice sessions, is that I don't want to see conservative Jalen Hertz. I want to see like, you know, pushing the limits Jalen Hertz. And so him willing to make those throws, to me, it's been really good to see. Opening period, they ran a, they ran a blitz. They had the DB coming off the slot. He hits Hollywood Brown for a touchdown on a shallow cross.

Later in the next period, Jehad Campbell's blitzing in the A gap, hurts through it right past his earhole and hit Elijah Moore wide open for a good play. And that one was some nifty footwork too. Yes, and he threw around the blitzer. I thought that was really strong. Third period, first play, really good eyes and timing. You know, we've talked so much about like the eyes being married with the feet. Getting to the backside dig to Don Tavian Wicks,

hits him in stride, catch and run. There were a couple plays where I was like, this will be something to work on. First time we've seen a, or at least like I can remember from what I've seen, a fumbled exchange in a team period with Teng Bigsby. So that's one I'm sure that they're going to work through. But outside of that, like I liked a lot of what we saw from,

from Jalen today. I like the fact that his first throw after the Zach Vaughn interception was that gotter touchdown. So again, like, hey, I made a big, I made a mistake, quote unquote, throwing that pick in the middle of the field. but not feeling gun-shy afterwards.

So I like what I saw from jail in today, especially, again, given the fact that no Devante and no Makai. I think in important context, and this was an interesting answer from Sean. Yeah, I got it right here. Can I read it? Yes. Same wavelength. This is a breadtime moment for us.

So Sean Mannion, before practice, was asked by our friend Elliot for Parks, about the philosophy behind, do you, like, how do you feel about interceptions in practice? Do you feel okay about the risk-taking? And, you know, you want to try stuff? in practice or do you want to make sure that you're prioritizing turnover avoidance even in that setting? I thought that Sean Mannion's answer was interesting. You said for me, regardless of position, you want to treat every practice as if it were a game. You want to try to take yourself through a game day process in terms of execution, in terms of substituting from the sideline. I don't really

subscribe to, well, we're going to treat practice with a different level of aggression. You want to, as best you can, create a game day type mindset for each player in each position group, a quarterback or otherwise, within a practice setting, which my read is he doesn't think that interceptions in practice or something where it's like, well, I'm glad we got the rep where you got to try it, which I don't know. It surprised me a little bit. I was only surprised that he was so demonstrative in one direction or the other. I thought that maybe there would be some equivocating, but I thought that was very interesting to me. Yeah, I think it's not that he said, like obviously interceptions are bad, but I mean,

he also like was involved with coaching a quarterback last year in Jordan. And Jordan Love has been one of the more aggressive quarterbacks and like like basically like screw it like I'm going to throw it quarterbacks in football. So I'm sure he's he's used to that level of aggression from the position. It's kind of like a how you practice, you know, practice how you play kind of deal. Yeah. So, you know, I don't know if he necessarily would say like, oh, Jaylon, we don't want you making those throws. But it's like, it's like if you're going to make them, like you got to make them. Is there like a 7% chance that he was just, you know, pandering to Nick.

Siriani. Like, you got to know your personnel. You can't be up there like, yeah, you know, I want Jalen taking chances in practice. We got to see if we can squeeze that one in there. Do you think, are you worried at all that, as you say, the offense did as well as it did against what's supposed to be a top three defense without Devante Smith and Mikhail Lehmann? Like, are you saying, are we worried about the defense? Yeah. No. No. just asking. The past rush has been so good. And honestly,

the secondary has been really good too. I mean, maybe specifically again, what's the, what's the, I mean, they're good. I don't say,

like they've been really good. They've been like, but to me that the rush has been very, very, the rush is been awesome. I think there's been instances each, each practice where it's like,

there's no airspace. There's not a single route open. I think maybe you, you could make an argument that this specific scheme has given them trouble at times over the last few years. And,

you know, that's that is why sometimes the offense looks more and syncing more in rhythm i think there's maybe maybe there's an argument there but overall i'm not worried about the defense all right let's get to the good man dinks double dip here bow e j fran open your third eyes and walk with me here on this brave daring journey given the lane news and mannion's comments on the tush push how do these effect, the Gush pushes, push for the roster. The Gush's push for the roster. Gush got some time with the twos today. Now, it is interesting. They continue to rotate the two's safety, but it's always Andre Sam. Andre Sam gets every rep with the twos, and then sometimes

it's Maximus Pully, sometimes it's Coppenna Gishin, sometimes it's J.T. Gray. Sometimes it's Michael Carter. You know, Andre Sam, I like Andre Sam. He didn't make the roster last year. I I would kind of like them to let's see Gushikin and Polly out there together. Let's rotate those guys a little bit more, but that's neither here nor there. I said to Fran today that I think I decided on my comp for the gush, which is poor man, Sidney Brown.

And then I think Fran thinks that he might have already made that. Yeah. I know that I wrote a Sidney Brown for somebody. One sec. It's going to take me. longer than you probably she gozy gozy go shay oh no for pulley really yeah i said at the end of my write-up on pulley back in the spring i said i'd almost compare him to a less explosive city brown oh interesting that's how i but i also said uh that he and gush are very similar but you know so

i think we're we're fishing in the same pond there uh there go i would say right now gush is on the outside looking in he also got he got some uh he got some special teams run today So it's good. and Fran. I actually got to, it's really funny. I actually had a a pest question to ask. Okay. Now, I think it's still a Fox. I think he still works for Fox. Well, so here's my question. Where would, in terms of like,

I don't say fear factor, but in terms of like, oh, where would bats rank and the power hang is for you guys? Now, here's the thing. I would not characterize this as a pest situation because this is when I'm outside. So I'm on their turf at this point.

But, you know, When it comes to like bats in your immediate vicinity, where are you guys at with that? That's a good question. Outside, I feel like if a bat is near me, it's like, ooh, that was a surprise, but I'm not as freaked out. If it's outside. Now, bat inside, we're talking. Okay. That inside is a totally different ballgame. Totally different ballgame. That outside, which is where they normally live, I mean, we've had a bat that we had to evict, not even in my top. I've got, I've got bullfrog over over. I was literally just going to say, you're, I am calling the DS one, because you got depowed by a green frog in your driveway.

It was a big frog of my palm. And yeah, I have that frog over a bat. What? It's like a, it's a little bit worse than a bird. What do you mean? The bat is flying around, although bat, uh, you know, droppings go on. Oh, really are really bad for the environment, bad for you, like bad for your dogs, toxic. So you got to be careful with that.

But yeah, I got a bunch of animals that I'd rather not see. I'd rather see a bat than a bunch of animals in my backyard. We have them in the neighborhood. Like, you know, you see them in the summer night. All right, I'm walking the dog. And usually it's like, oh, there's a bat. Not a big deal. And it's like, you know, 20 feet above my head.

A couple nights ago, I'm walking the dog. And it was like a little bit darker, but not that much darker than normal. And I saw they were like, first. it was like a Batman movie. There were like 20 and they were they were diving breathing distance away. Like it was a little too close. If I feel like if it touched me, I would feel pretty skeved out for a while. Yeah, I wasn't like that.

I wasn't feeling it in that instance. So usually I'm like, that's okay. But I like, we're going down the hill. I go through the bats the first time and I'm like, I got to go back through this. Like what am I going to do here? And so we just booked it. They're like ran through it. I was like going full speed.

through this horde of bats. Important, important point from NEPA who says, have we forgotten that Julia does all the pest control in EJ's house? Not as much anymore, but yes, historically, she usually is the pest controller in our house. And the dinkman says he had a bat in his apartment last week, absolutely mortifying. Oh, well, in the apartment, that's a totally different.

Proximity. But I would rather, I mean, truly I would rather see a bat fly 10 feet over my head. then have a cockroach on the floor. Oh, without a doubt. Yeah, I think that's true. Cockroaches never bothered me, like, in the apartment and stuff, like, in terms of like, I will just go and, like,

step on it and crush it. You can't kill it. That's the whole thing, isn't it? No, you can get, that's a tick, the ticks, you can't, squit. Oh, I flush ticks down the toilet. Yeah, right. Those you can't switch.

So every year for the combine, we're like off the rails now. Every year for the combine, something happens every time. Every time I'm gone for like eight days or whatever. And every year without fail, like something happens, right? Like we're, you know, we had the snowstorm this year. It's like, you know, Meg gets a stomach bug.

And it's like, whatever. Like there's something. Women, right? It was the last day. It was the last day of the combine. I'm there. It was like 5.30 in the morning. She got, she gets up to like, I think she was like teaching yoga at that time.

And she texted me. She went to go open the windows. And she was, she thought a bat like flew out of the, out of the curtains. And so that was like, there's a bat in the house. Like, what do I do? I'm like two hours of sleep, just like dead to the world. All the phone with her, like trying to talk her through

what to do about a bat in the house. And? I mean, I was, you know, however many miles away. So I couldn't know. My father-in-law ended up coming over and helping her out. Okay. Lots to get to. Still here.

Should we talk offense or defense? I just like call out a couple of specific players. I got two offense points. How would you like to do this? I want to discuss. I think Fran and I disagree on this one. So let's do this one first. We want to do one-on-ones too.

So go ahead. Yeah. Yeah, this is in tandem with one-on-ones. I felt I walked away from today's practice more worried about the interior offensive line than I have been. Pretty much just any day. Oh, the starting interior offensive line. Yeah, I agree with that.

Yeah, that's a different conversation. But Cam Juergens left practice for a second straight practice. He doesn't have a visible limp when he leaves practice. I'm not really sure what's happening, but he did leave practice early. And before that, him and Landon Dickerson, just a handful of plays where they got beat. Again, Fran mentioned it was a run heavy day, a lot of inside runs, and that was probably part of it. But I don't know, this was kind of like a stress test for those guys. And I don't think either of them came out from it, like with flying colors.

And that is a little worrying because that's a major question we had going into camp. The reason why I disagreed with EJ in the moment was. was that Cam Jerkins is like one-on-one and even like, you know, two-oh, again, going up against Jordan Davis. Like that's a bad matchup for him. You know, Jason Kelsey has talked about how he struggled with those types of guys, you know, so much early on in his career as well as a smaller center. So I'm not going to like ding Cam Jergins for not looking great on duo against Jordan Davis.

So, you know, over, you know, I texted our friend Sean Syed that today. I was like, if I had a nickel for every time they ran under-center duo today, I'd have a couple bucks to my name. They ran it a lot today. And so that that doesn't worry me. I actually, there were a couple plays where you saw Gerger. They ran a few screens today. There was another QB draw where he was out as a puller.

And I was like, Cam looks good. And we know, like, they did not do any of that with Cam Juergens last year because of the back injury. So the fact that they utilized him that way, I thought was actually a good sign. Now, that was before he left, Jurgens left practice at the end. I do wonder, like, so because that was at the, when they were basically done, it was before their final. stretch of two minute play. So it was after their first two minute drill. Jaylin throws the interception.

And then they come back out. And so he missed those final. Drew Kendall got those reps, by the way. Yeah, Drew Kendall got those last two reps who I spoke with after practice and get into that later. But Juergens, like that could have been a hydration thing. Like, you know, it is notable that it's been two days in a row. So that's unfortunate.

All right. O-line, D-Line, one-on-ones. Now, it was interesting. They continue to do the two reps is what you get. but the only edge rushers who got reps were Jalick's Hunt and Nolan Smith. They got all the reps. They would just go through different tackles on the edge. So I'll take it through it.

You start with Jalix against Lane Johnson. I thought the first rap, I thought Jailix won. I thought he got inside of Lane Johnson, which you never see in one-on-ones. And then Lane held him, you know, in the way that you are used to seeing with Lane on the second ramp. Did you agree that first run that Jailix got inside, E. Yeah, it surprised me. It was you don't see Lynn get beaten the one-on-ones very often. I think he did work a really good.

inside move against him i think you won that one uh then you give tyler steen against jalen carter and i had two good reps for tyler steen that the first one was one where like you know he he feels jailik er jalen's power and then settles in afterwards the second one was just a clean win i thought yeah it was a really good anchor on the second one uh you already took us through the the jordan davis cam jergans ones then you get more ojojogemo against drew kendall first one morojmo won uh you know he He won pretty decisively. And then Drew, uh, Drew Kendall got the second one. And then no one's, we disagreed.

I had Dickerson for those. Yeah. Oh, that's right. You did have Dickerson. And I think it was Dickerson. And I had, I had Ojo, two wins. Now, the second one wasn't as clean.

But yeah, and that was another thing with the, with my note on Atlanta Dickerson. Like, Ojimo just kind of beat him with like bend around the corner. And I, I don't know. That was like a little worrying for me as we're trying to figure out how those guys are moving. That's right. How they feel. Yeah. The Nolan against Jordan Milata, and this is when it started to be like, man,

I don't know if Nolan has it. We'll get to it because he then had a couple good reps later. But these first two reps against Milata, my lot of, like the first one, he goes wide and he's just got no chance. Mila's got it completely locked up. And then the second one, he tries an inside move, and Milita has him stoned on that one as well. And just to add, he was called for encroachment between those two reps. And the first one, I felt like he just didn't have any bend, you know? Like, it felt like you just didn't have the best.

bend you would like to see from him going around. And the encroachment one, it was kind of like, it felt like a pitcher who was just like trying to find the ball, like trying to try to aim it. It was like he was looking for a little cheat code or something like that. And he just, it looks like he was fighting himself a little bit. Yeah. Jalix against Markle Bell on the right side.

I thought the first one was a pretty good rep from Markle. And then the second one was like probably a pressure from Jalick's. you know, Markell sort of pushed him just wide enough, but it was one that would have bothered the quarterback a little bit. Willie Lampkin, we can have a little minute to talk about Willie Lampkin here, Fran, if you want. So Willie Lankin is right now, as he did yesterday, was working as the second team right guard today and the third team center. I think they know that he can probably play center.

The question is if he's on the roster, they need to know if they can get through a game with him at guard. And you can tell us, Fran, And he played guard in college. He did. But boy, is he small for NFL guard. I think he's going to, and you wouldn't want, for the same reason, you didn't want Jason Kelsey next to Cam Juergens.

You don't want Cam Jurgens next to Willie Lampkin in an ideal world. Right. And you would never enter a game with Willie Lampkin as a starting guard. You would, you know, you would move your line in some direction to get him at center if you needed to. But in the middle of a game, if he had to come in in a pinch, could you make it through a game? And I tell you what, he looks good at guard. Yeah. Now, you know, he's mostly going up against twos.

It's happened a couple. I don't think that he's had to go one on one against Jill and Carter necessarily at guard. And that's a completely different conversation. That could probably wreck a game. But right now, he's ready for whatever the next step is because he has looked good enough, I feel like, against whatever this level of competition is at guard. Yeah, I asked, I asked Drew Kendall, because Kendall was asked after practice about just, you know, cross training and what that's been like. So I asked him about Willie Lampkin because he's also obviously been cross training at both spots.

And Drew said, he told me, he said, Willie's a beast. Great guy brings a lot of energy. Been fun to cross train with him. He's having a great camp. Very impressive what he does at his size. Great leverage, natural leverage, we call it, gets underneath guys pads and gets movement. And I know Cole Payton was also asked about Willie Lampi. He said, you know, every day of practice, we have like a good effort plays tape.

played, you know, it's like, you know, the guys that showed great effort during practice and Willie's on there every single day. Yeah. I turned around when Cole Payton said that. And I actually was checking on something. I wasn't looking at Fran, but I see it my periphery, Frang is going like this. So he was so fired up about that. That's great.

We love that. Now, there was a point today where Willie had to be pulled. Yeah. For Jake Majors. And he sort of walked off and Chris Cooper was in his ear. And I couldn't tell if it was. was an encouraging thing or a getting on him thing. And I had thought that early in practice,

Willie maybe got banged up a little bit and was playing through things. But he came back then and was fine. As for one-on-ones, he did a great job against Gabe Hall on his two reps, completely stoned him. And I have some insight on Willie Lampkin from Jason Kelsey of all people,

which I will tell you, wow, in overtime. So if you watched yesterday's, what? Top five T's. in the history of this. If you watched yesterday's show, you heard about the one rep

where UR pushed Willie back, and I had talked about it as like the first real flash that we saw from UR, and Mr. Kelsey had seen that clip. And he said, you know, actually Willie false started on that play

and stopped blocking. So that was not really UR pushing him back. That was just effort versus not effort. So there you go. That's the good context. Very good context. And listen,

tells you a good reminder of just how little we know. But I would say on the short list of players, I'm most excited to see one week and three hours from now. I look forward to. He's just such an unbelievable player. As someone who is watching him for the first time in person, obviously Fran has done a lot of research or a lot of studying on his his game like he shouldn't be able to do this like he shouldn't be this powerful and this quick at like it's just it's it's

it's really it defies like the the bounds of what I would have envisioned for an NFL offensive lineman when I watch him and that's why he's such a fun player I mean it's just unbelievable to watch him out there your your former colleague jeff Nyberg asked uh drew kendall about that about like his size and drew kendall was like yeah like I got, you know, I don't want to say anything bad about it. And she said, no, like, you know, it's just like amazing what he's able to do at that size. And Kendall said, you know, we say it, you know, I think he was kind of alluding the fact, like, Chris Cooper says this all the time that it doesn't matter what it's looked like,

what it looks like, as long as it gets done. And then he's like, you know, William Duncan is an example of that where it's like, yeah, like, it doesn't always look pretty, but he like, he gets the job done more often than not. So I feel like that's a good, like context of a former player. Yeah. Like, yeah. Right.

quickly through the rest of one-on-ones. Jake Majors against Byron Young. First one was a quick win for Byron Young, which was a good rep from B.Y. And then the second one was kind of a stalemate where it felt like Jake Majors was fighting for his life a little bit, but he, to the point, wasn't pretty, got the job done. Ty Robinson had a good rep against Drew Kendall on the first of two,

and then Kendall had a good one. And I think it's worth just quickly saying that Ty Robinson moved up the depth chart a little bit today. just today's practice got a couple of reps with the ones in third and long situations didn't necessarily do anything to make me write it down in the notebook but you know did enough to to move up and get some reps uh fred johnson rides nolan smith wide and then the second one the second rep was like okay finally there's the nolan smith we want to see beautiful push pull move where he just kind of ragged hauled fred johnson and that was the one was like okay thank you nolan we just wanted to see that

I was listening to, I forget when this week, we or you guys were talking about Nolan in practice. And it actually brought me back to 2024 because obviously he was not healthy for the most of camp last year. I think Nolan takes an approach in practice where he's like constantly like trying new things from a like pass rush like plan standpoint. Not a not a practice. Like he is a guy who pops more in games as opposed to practice is like my read on Nolan. but it reminded me of that just listening to you guys talk about that this week here remember he had to play in the third preseason game

right that is an excellent point that we have seen you don't have like bad summers before that's true that is a good point uh jelix had to go again this time against john a jukew actually juku did pretty well i felt like jelix was tired a little bit uh micha morris two reps against uar and he won both of the reps and i think micha morris has looked pretty good but this was one where he won the rep but you did sort of at least see when Uar was able to lock out his hands

he's a strong guy yeah but you know but it was good to see and then Willie had one final rep against Zion and it was a good one he tossed that's what I wrote down Willie Lamkin tosses Zion Wilson has Zion Wilson done anything for you guys not a whole lot okay a little bit

I'm interested to see what he looks like in games you had special teams notes Fran I did during while you guys were watching the one-on-one I was watching the punt and punt return units going. So they had the first team punt unit out there, and they basically was like working on the core of the formation. So you think like everybody but the gunners, and then you obviously have the long snapper and the punter out there.

But the starters with the punt unit right now, you had four tight ends out there. You had Johnny Munt. You had Kamatu. You had E.J. Jenkins. You had Grant Calcutera. Really? So one name conspicuous.

ridiculously missing from that from that group um yeah jeremiah trotter junior and smile london obviously chance campbell would be the name that i think is still kind of also fighting for one of those roles there you know at that spot maybe dante lawson a name to kind of keep an eye and an eye on there we'll talk about him in a minute epinessa and jose ramirez also were kind of rotating in with those body types yeah um will shipley at personal protector he was working with the first team uh damien pierce also kind of worked in there with those guys as well. Now, they went and they had a couple reps with those guys. And then they did what I know is a half-line drill

where it's like, all right, we're going to have everyone from the long snapper and then to the right, you guys are going to go again. It's like three-on-three type of situation. And then we're going to do the group on the left. So you kind of really get to see like a focus on one-on-ones here, you know, in that drill. It was the second or third rep.

Eli Stowers gets his first rep with that group. And, Josh Weiru lines up across from him. Weiru like manhandles him. Like completely locks him up. Didn't throw him to the ground, but just like Stowers couldn't release and get downfield at all.

We were just manhandled them. So yeah, not great. He also had a drop in team periods earlier in the day as well. But there were a couple other- He had a good agenda. The agenda. It's reported the facts. That's what happened on the field.

He had a couple of touches. He had a couple of catches in the flat afterwards, yeah. In the flasers. Check down. I'm just saying, what happened? He was working with the two instead of the threes now. All right, let me find the confetti. I'll throw that in the air.

All right, here we go. So, J.T. Gray had a couple nice reps working as a gunner. He had a good one against Amber Thomas. Darius Cooper had a really good battle with Jacorian Bennett on the outside in that drill as well. Torre had a, had a nice rep as well where he was, uh, he faced two jammers. It was kind of like a vice situation. Uh, and he was able to shake loose.

Uh, I thought there was a good rep from Torre, but, uh, those are the big takeaways there from the punt period. Um, they also did like some kickoff and kickoff return, but it was like one, one rep and then back in a scrimmage. And then we're doing one rep and then back in a scrimmage. So it wasn't anything like the punt period, they spent a good amount of time with. That is so funny. The agenda.

That drop was really tough. I mean, Dante Lawson had a good day, I thought, Fran. He did. He, he, I've said a couple times that he looks the part. And I just hadn't like seen it pop in team. And this was the first day where I thought he had a couple reps in team sessions where I was like, oh, like, yeah, there it is. There's the former five-star recruit. So, yeah, he's, I'm interested to see him once we get into next Saturday as well.

Filling some holes nicely, you know, making the right read. Yeah. It looks like, he looks like a potentially capable downhill player. I will see what he can do. in space. I also think worth noting E.J. given the quality summer he's had, Trott Jr. was caught in space a couple times today. And obviously that's not where you want him necessarily. He's going to look better coming downhill against the run. But it was just a bit of a reminder of why maybe he is not a, you know, dead solid starter. Yeah, I think he sometimes his limitations

show up, like the physical limitations, but I mean, this is like when you tried to put Camelot to a stock down. You're just trying to kick my guys however you can. There was a rep somewhat late in practice. Trotter was where it was twos versus twos. Trotter was sent on a blitz and Carson Steele just wrecked them. Like a block and took him to the ground. I don't even know a rough rep for Trot against EJ's second.

least favorite player. I just, I don't dislike Carson Steele as much as, uh, the Jake Major's experience has confounded me. Um, but he's getting a lot of work. He just is getting a lot of carries and a lot of it's weird. Like Elijah Mitchell gets no carries. Yeah. But Carson Steel gets like 10. Yeah. Give Camelot to a couple of those carries. Um, looking at some of the other notes I have. Johnson Jones had a PbU. Okay. I thought not his best day. You got a couple of other ones. You know, we should say Michael Carter, yeah. Elijah Moore had a lot of catches today.

Yeah, he was all over the place. He was in the backfield in a couple of place, too. Yeah. I don't know. I don't think he's going to make the team, but he's getting a lot of work with the ones. The reason I don't think he's going to make the team necessarily based off of that is because, again, a lot of those, I feel like are scheme, like, driven more than he's, like, routing somebody up or winning a matchup.

I actually think if, like, it's sad because those would have been. the Mackay Lemon reps if he were in there. So I don't know. I'm still waiting to see with Elijah. Do you think that he is like the direct McKay Lemon? Like, you know, Hey, Mackay, like watch Elijah more. This is what you're doing on this play kind of deal. More often than not, I do feel like he has stepped into that slot.

I don't want to say gadget, but slot move player. Yeah, I think McKay Lemon's probably watching him more often than that. Anybody else? You mentioned Michael Carter. Michael Carter had a PBO against DJ Jenkins in the slot. He had a couple nice thuds coming downhill in the run game as well.

I think that's all I got. We mentioned it briefly, but they did have a nice QB draw like a pinpole scheme for that red zone period. Thought that was well designed. And we should say, Sean Mannion said before practice,

Tush push is not going anywhere. Yes. That will be a part of what we do. Yeah. Last thing I had from Mannion's Presser, we do not need to discuss this. We can maybe save it for next week. I did find what he'd said about tight ends to be very interesting and like Eli Stowers transition into the NFL about how they ask their tight ends to do so many different things and how they are really important to the kind of the foundational pieces of the scheme, which I found interesting because they have a tight end room where only one guy can theoretically do both, you know, can be that combo tight end. It's just it's a little. little bit of like dissonance from hearing for what man you'd once in a tight end what he envisions for that room and then what he actually has so maybe something to keep an eye on yeah i think yeah underscoring your point it's you know we want our tenants to be able to do everything but dallas goddard is the only one who in theory can do that i mean johnny munt is a blocker

everybody else in that room is a pass catcher maybe stone smart is like a can do a little bit of both but you're talking about a practice squad level player so um it's interesting they They will almost literally not be able to play. They want to play if Munt or Godder gets hurt. That's why I think they have a trade to make there. Some super chats before we get out of here. Afrado says is Jalen Hertz's footwork getting better and the ball out quick? I think we talked about this a little bit earlier.

But I would say yes. Generally speaking, his footwork has looked a lot better this summer. And the ball has gotten out mostly on time. Not always. And there were a couple plays today that had, me a little bit bothered, but I think that's right. Yeah. CDP, how many players on the roster deserve to be happy?
