These mics are hot like E.J. Smith. Hello, everybody, and welcome H.O.I. Eagles podcast live from the Xfinity Lounge and presented by Ashley. It is Training Camp Week, E.J. Oh, yeah, it is. This is a good time of year. It's my favorite time of year. A couple days from now, we'll be on the practice field watching football, grown men that get to watch other grown men play football. I'm grateful. I'm grateful to all of you out there for letting us have this opportunity.

I'm fired up. Very exciting stuff. Wednesday is the first day of practice. We will have you covered for every practice during training camp here in the PHOY Eagle Show. You're not going to get better or quicker insight into what happens on the field than here on PHA.

That's not be ridiculous. And so let's sort of, let's settle in on today's show. And get everybody ready if you have been intermittently paying attention on what's been going on this off season. What are the things you need to know? We will have you covered. Let's start EJ and get into what's brewing presented by our friends at Wawa. And if I asked you, if I approached you on the street, said, hey, I recognize you. You're that guy with the guitar from the Ospreys last year.

Yeah. Oh, Ospre's. I have not paid attention to the Eagles since they ran four averts on fourth down again. I'm getting ready to plug in on Wednesday. What's the number one biggest change to the Eagles this offseason? The number one biggest change to the Eagles this offseason probably has to be the fact that they made significant changes on offense. I'm going to make it broad so I can fit a lot in here. Significant changes on offense.

Well, let me let me reframe this. I've been spending almost a year with you in this studio well, not this studio, but around these studios. And now I'm going to reframe it in a way that I think you might be proud of. When I was doing my show prep, I wrote down the three things that if you did unsubscribe, not literally from the show, because you couldn't do that. Make sure you like and subscribe to this video. But if you unsubscribe from the Eagles, you decided, you know, that was a painful way to end the season.

We are going to just take a break, and I'm going to come back in now. I think you would have three questions. And the three questions would be, is the offensive line healthier? is the past game going to be less rudimentary and what is going to happen with AJ Brown. Okay. And all three of those things are things you can answer by saying

there were significant changes on office. Okay. You think that's fair? Not really, but it's a way to reframe the questions and answer how you want. Yeah, to make sure that I had some prep for the question that you were going to ask me here. All right.

So this AJ Brown fella, he's gone? He's gone. Where? How are they replacing? He went to the New England Patriots. Okay. And how are they going to replace him?

It's a good question. They drafted Mackay Lemon in the first round of the NFL draft. They traded for Don Tavian Wicks, a veteran, veteran-ish receiver. And I think between the two of them, you're hoping that you have a wide receiver too for Devante Smith as your first wide receiver. You know, there has been a chorus of optimism around Devante Smith this offseason. It's kind of been underneath all of the buzz around AJ Brown. So I think, you know, there is a.

there's a lot of projection in the receiver room. There's a lot of questions, but how are they going to replace them? I think it is solely, or primarily with Devante Smith and then secondarily with Mackay Lemon, Don Tavia and Wix. And honestly, we need to always factor in

Dallas got it into this conversation as well. And that guy who was the offensive coordinator, who was Nick's buddy, Kevin Patoly. He's gone. He's gone. He got fired. Even if you unsubscribe,

don't have to look at that graphic. Even if you unsubscribe from the Eagles there, you would still probably know that the Eagles hired Sean Mannion, a young up-and-coming coach, a former quarterback's coach with the Green Bay Packers. And honestly, everything you've heard. Nicely done. Everything we've heard about Sean Mannion so far is that he's the hardest worker in the room, has been spending the better part of a decade, honestly decade plus, working toward this opportunity. There's questions about how it will be as a play caller. I think that's fair to say. But overall, I think you can be optimistic

that the offense is going to look significantly different this year. All right. Let's get into a little bit of that more specifically. We'll close the book on what's brewing presented by Wawa. And listen, if you have been consuming Eagles content throughout, some of this is maybe repeating. But in terms of the expectations for how different the offense is going to look,

Yeah. How serious do you think that will be? I think it's going to be serious. I'd be very surprised. I know it's on the table, but I'd be very surprised if the Eagles go back to the way that they played offense last year. I don't know if it's really on the table for them because of the personnel changes they've made. You know, if you did unsubscribing, you don't know much about Mackay Lemon, like he is not a one-for-one, A.J. Brown replacement in the sense that you're going to, you know, put Mikey Lemon on the outside and say, win one on one. You know, like go, go beat the guy in front of you against press man coverage. So the personnel decisions inform that they're going to have to play differently and everything we saw

on the spring suggests that they will. They're going to be under center more. There's going to be more crossing routes, routes over the middle of the field, and way more play action. And I think, you know, the foundation for this offense is going to be getting the middle of the field in conflict, whether it's linebackers or safeties with run-pass fake. So, you know, past play action and everything that comes off of that, the run game being set. central to it as well. I think they have to make it work, you know, because I'm not sure. I think that like the past concepts will sometimes mirror what we've seen in the past, but the overall scheme, the philosophy, it is going for, it's a significant departure from

what we've seen them do in the past. And just to remind everybody last year with A.J. Brown and J. Brown and Jalen Hertz and Devante Smith and Sequin Barkley and all those guys on the offensive line, this was a bad offense. Yes. It was 24th in the league in success rate. 21st in points per drive, 19th and APA per drive, any way to slice it, this was a bad offense, below average bordering on bottom quartile. And so, the Eagles are hoping that the addition by subtraction is not necessarily the case with AJ Brown,

but the parts are going to make more sense with Sean Mannion, who they are putting a lot of faith in. Oh, absolutely. A guy who was in his third year as a coach, only entered coaching two years ago was a one year quarterback's coach with the Packers last year and the Packers offense was very good last year

top quarter of the league in pretty much every category but we don't know exactly what the Sean Mannion offense is going to look like relative to the Matt LaFloor offense Eagles are putting a lot of faith in this guy who the most we've heard about him is boy does he work hard

yeah yeah and again like personnel wise they can't run it the way that they ran it in the past So it's a big projection. And not only like the vision that he has, it's also him as a play caller. That's a big projection. Now if you are coming back to the Eagles after some time away, we can tell you that Jalen Hertz is really encouraged by the way

the things have looked in the spring and the way that Sean Mannion installed this offense. And, you know, if you are, if you were away, you're, you miss the press conference heard around the world from Sean Mannion where he really was able to spell out his vision. By the way, it's crazy that, we've only heard from him once. Yeah.

Like, you know, it feels like he's been in this, this world for so long. But yes, we've heard from him exactly one press conference so far. But in that press conference, we have really gotten a good sense of, you know, the vision that he has. And again, how quarterback footwork is going to be vital to the passing game. You know, he wants Jalen Hertz to listen to his feet. And, you know, from there, it has been a lot about the run game and how that is central to the play action game. and, you know, really, again, this vision that he has that aligns with the Sean McVeigh, Kyle Shanahan, Matt LaFleur offenses across the NFL.

So I think there's reason for optimism based off of, like, I don't think that there's as much of a doubt about Sean Manu being an effective communicator or having a clear vision. I think the projection then lies, and what you're alluding to, the play calling, and just their ability to execute what he wants them to do. And so from what you were able to see in the spring, did the offense look different? It didn't. It looked different.

It looked way different. say it looked amazing all the time, you know. No, but they're going against... You did in fact see more under center. You did in fact see balls over the middle of the field, more motion. Yeah, absolutely. And honestly, I heard from someone during spring practices, like, it couldn't have been much more different.

Like 95% new, it probably is 99.9% new this year. I think, again, I think some of the concepts will be able to, you know, translate into the new system. Like, some of like the Y-Sail stuff, like the RPO game, I think, they'll also try to implement to a certain degree. But yeah, in terms of how it looks even with those concepts, like it couldn't be much more different. Okay. Exciting. It is exciting. Yeah. It's invigorating. And so my question to you then, as the guy who has not been paying attention, what does Jalen Hertz think of all this? Yeah. So I remember the idea that he can't throw

over the middle of the field, right? Well, you know, if you watch our show regularly, which obviously you didn't. But if you did, you would have known that the guy who usually sits in this chair, was just taken, of swooning over Jalen Hertz's answers about Sean Mannion. He was so excited about how Jalen Hertz was about John Mannion. And for good reason, I would say, you know, some people saw it coming. That Jalen Hertz was, he took a very different tone when talking about Sean Mannion this offseason. He was enthusiastic about learning a new brand of football. He was, you know, excited to, like, take on this challenge.

And I think that's very noteworthy because this is the scheme that's going to ask him to change the most. You know, like the Kellen Moore system, you know, obviously Kevin Petullo last year, every year Jalen has had different play callers and that can't be like overstated. But at the same time, like not every offense has asked him to change significantly. This one will, you know, this is under center, something he hasn't majored in in his career. This is passes over the middle of the field at a higher clip. And that is something that he hasn't majored in at all in his career. So I think he's capable of doing these things. And I think that, you know, Sean Manion has to figure out how to, you know, get him to be consistent in these areas and comfortable doing some things that he hasn't done in the past. And, you know, it's a big projection. But again, if you're asking how Jalen seems with it, he seems receptive. And I would also tell you that post A.J. Brown trade, I think Jailen has seemed a little lighter.

You know, I don't want to say that, you know, correlation is causation here. But, you know, he's been golfing with the guys. He's been hosting his teammates. I did see his Instagram post today. Yeah, Mikey Lemon. was in there. So he's working out with Mackay Lemon. So that means that they probably did at least two, right? Because I don't think McKay Lemon was there for the first one that they did, which was in Florida. And this one was in Houston.

Yeah. So he had him in Houston as well. So it'll be good to hear some stories about that. But yeah, he has been, I think it's been a continuation of what we, what I wrote about at the end of the season. He's trying to be more open and more accessible to his teammates and a little bit less guarded with the force field around him. I think he realizes now that that affects winning.

that affects his ability to connect with this team. And that's obviously something like Nick Siriani harps on. I think that Jalen has been more accepting of that in the last 12 months. And I think you saw it this off season. Now you mentioned Mikhail Lemon. What's the book on the rookie? Yeah, he's an interesting player. You know, he's a type of player where if you can get him into favorable situations,

then he can make a real difference because he catches everything. He's tough. He's good with the ball in his hands after the catch. I think he's like a good modern receiver. But in saying that, he's not someone who is going to beat press man coverage on the outside. You know, he's not someone who fits in the previous versions of the Eagles offense as a go beat the guy in front of him. Or, you know, go win your matchup against the guy in front of you. When I watched him as a draft prospect, he had a game against Notre Dame where he faced Pressman the whole game.

And that worried me because it didn't look good for him. But obviously he's an incredibly productive receiver in college. And if they have a vision for him, I think he could be really productive because we've seen that, you know, with him in college. And we've seen this type of receiver have success in the NFL. So it's going to rely on Sean Mannion. But if you feel good about Mannion's vision for this, then you can feel good about Mikey Levin as probably, I'd call him the third option in the offense behind Devante Smith and Dallas got her. Okay. That makes sense to me.

Yeah. And then Don Tavion Wicks is kind of your insurance policy there. Now, Don Tavian Wicks, the guy from the Packers who was like their fourth to fifth receiver? Yeah, yeah. We're counting on him. Eagles fans are pretty excited about him. So over the last couple months, the Dantavian Wix-Ipe has been building a little bit. So, yeah, I mean, we'll see.

It is a projection, I would say. I've been using projection a lot, but I think that's probably the word of the day with this Eagles offense. Okay. Take a quick break. Come back on the other side. Back in the PHA YGO's podcast, Bo and EJ. Before we go to the defensive side of the ball, EJ, I do remember last year, a bunch of those offensive linemen were pretty banged up. Yeah, right? I think that's the question.

Jurgens looked like couldn't move. Had a back injury, Landon Dickerson. I think I remember he said it was maybe going to retire. So what's the deal? So they both ended up in Columbia different times. for stem cells. You know, stem cells have been going on for a long time. They've been going on for a while.

Okay. And those guys took a trip down to Colombia. Is that how you would say it if you were native to Colombia? Probably not exactly. But yeah, they went down there. What's that? I don't dare. They went down there to Medellin for stem cell therapy.

And they both said that they feel significantly better after not really just that, but an off-season of rest. You know, Cam Jorgans talked about the fact that a year ago this time, he had just spent his entire off-season rehabbing from the back injury he suffered in 2024 and that he is feeling, he's even like hearing from him. He seemed lighter, seemed happier, seemed a little bit, you know, removed from what was a chronic injury, you know, a serious back injury. Whether he looks like he did before the injury, I think, you know, remains to be seen.

but at the very least he does seem more comfortable than he did a year ago. Like even last year just talking to him back in like September, you could tell like he was like agitated. And I think he definitely seems a little bit better this time around this year. And he again, he talked about the importance of being able to rest and then like lift and train like a normal football player this off season. And with Landon, no braces, no sleeves in spring practices. We'll see if that continues when the pads are on in a couple of weeks.

weeks, I guess in about a week, right? Yeah. So I think he's got a chance to, a couple of weeks, I think he's got a chance to be back to what he was before. You know, he's come back from serious injuries in the past. I think it obviously is alarming that like, you know, it was at least reported that he considered retirement. But he's back. And I've had conversations with him before about his process coming back from injuries and, you know, how there's a mentality that you have to have and how he has overcome a lot of things. I honestly think there's reason for optimism that he will look, maybe not perfect, maybe not like 100% of what he used to be, but at least, you know, close enough where he's still an all pro or a pro bowl level, level player at the very least.

What about Lane? Yeah, he had, I mean, he says he's healthy, says he feels good, he's there for OTAs. I feel fine about Lane. Now, I don't know, you take your, your hat off here. If you disagree, I'd be curious to hear, but I feel like Lane's Lane, you know. if I'm me, I think he's, if he's healthy, but I don't think he's old, so he might not say healthy. Yeah. I don't know. I have like an irrational optimism about Lane, I think. And I feel fine about that. He's come back from serious injuries in the past. I know you could say like the tightrope surgery with the ankles. It took him time to get back from that. But I don't know. I think with Lane, like you're expecting him to play 14 games this season. And you're expecting him to be Lane Johnson when he plays.

well and the good news is I mean they've got Jeff Stoutland so they can make the most out of whatever they got there. Oh boy do I have some news for you Jeff Stoutland stepped down from his post. What? I thought you're really going to do it. I mean you learned your lesson with spit takes on the show

um yeah stout's gone Stout's gone Chris Cooper Chris Cooper time did a head coaching job what happened he didn't get a head coaching job he stepped down from his post as run game coordinator and offensive line coach. Wow.

And he's out in the wilderness now. So who's the new guy? His name is Chris Cooper. The actor from the Patriot? No, not that one. Minnesota Vikings, former Minnesota Vikings, offensive line coach. The one was fired?

Yes, the one that the Vikings fans were like rejoicing on YouTube that they had gotten rid of Chris Cooper. But, you know, I mean, he's been, he's been, I'm trying to think I think it's fair to say he has at least some track record of developing players maybe not as flawless a record

as Jeff Stoutland but he does have some record seems like a pretty big change it is a big change I mean the offensive lineman I think Jordan Milata said he feels like a rookie again you know going through this change

because the scheme is going to be significantly different they're going from an inside zone scheme that you know mixes in a lot of gaps gap run schemes as well to an outside zone scheme where it's more horizontal. It's more about covering space laterally than it is going and just, you know, firing off the ball and trying to displace whoever's in front of you. So it's a big departure schematically.

And I think there's actually reason to believe Lane Johnson will really take well to that scheme because of how athletic he at least has been throughout his career. And yeah, but realistically also, like if you look across the NFL, there's not a ton of examples of like huge offensive lines in the system. so it's going to be an interesting mesh to see what it looks like. There's a reason to believe maybe this year will be better than the last for the offensive line. Is this a song lyric I'm missing?

Yeah. What song is it? Take me out to the ball game. That's not it. I know it's not it. I mean, I am familiar with this. I feel like given your guitar stuff, I'm surprised. The counting crows don't.

Like just like a very easy intro, like, I don't know. It feels like the kind of the music. that I would expect you to know. I have a very, like, wide range of musical tastes. Yeah. So I don't think I cover everything in any genre. I think that that's fair to say. Like, I listen to, and I know everybody probably is like,

oh, I listen to so many different types of music. I do, I honestly would put, like, the range of music I enjoy up against most people's. Wow. Name a genre. Shots fired. What do you? It's not shots fired. Irish dance.

I don't listen Irish dance music. Do you? All the time. It's the only thing I listen to. I don't, I do not believe that. I don't know. I don't know. I mean, like any rock music from like the 60s to now, any hip hop from really the 60s to now.

Older country music I have an appreciation for. Not so much the new stuff, if I'm being honest. It's not like the country pop. I can't do the pop music. Yeah, I'm sorry. And also, with the utmost respect, I don't know what it is about like the new country pop that like makes people want to put their windows down

and turn it all the way up. But it feels like whenever there's like a car that's just blaring music, it's the country pop music. At least where I live. That's me. Yeah, why? Why do you like, what is it? There's literally songs about roll your windows down and cruise.

Like that's what country music is. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. It only works in the summer. Like, I don't listen to country music in the winter. Interesting. Oh, okay.

You don't, like, yearn for the warm weather by listening to, like, some summary country music? It just makes me sad that it's dark and cold. It just doesn't, like, fit the vibe in the winter. Taylor Swift's depressing music does. Yeah, I was also curious about 1960s hip-hop. Yeah, okay. So really, what, like 80s? 80s hip-hop.

60s, like, R&B. Sure? Yeah. Yeah. R&B, any like soul music. I do listen to like house music, but mostly just in the gym. I go between rap and house,

like EDM. Obviously, I think everybody listened to Dubstep like 10 years ago. Did you listen to Dubstep like, yeah, like 15 years ago? Really? Really? Familiar. What about like heavy metal? The question in 1998.

Does the producer rolls call? Do you drive a diesel truck, Lindsay? I do not. I drive a Subaru. Respect. Super is good cars. Heavy metal? To a certain extent.

I had a phase where I listened to heavy metal. Do you like Go Goth? No, I was never like an emo kid. I listened to like pop punk a little bit. Just a little bit though. More like... What, like some 41? Yeah, like I am aware of them.

Brand new. That was what I liked. But they had like a psych rock phase that I enjoyed. Okay. Yeah. So I listen to all those genres I just named. And so what does this have to do with Chris Cooper again? You gave me a lyric from the Counting Crows and we went off the rails.

How do you feel about LeBron? Oh my God. I was so excited. It's like, it still doesn't feel real. You know, it's just like it's very cool. It's incredibly cool, but like seven years ago, I was so hopeful that LeBron would sign with the Sixers. It's probably a good thing you didn't in hindsight

because of like everything that's transpired with the team since then. But yeah, it doesn't, it's like pinch me. It was a pinch me moment. And I don't mind sharing this on the show that I was at a funeral on Friday. And it was like a, like, poignant is probably the best word. I wouldn't say it was like a nice moment or a special moment. It was just like, it really like shows you the power of sports. Because it was a somber day like, you know, with my wife and her family and like, you know,

mourning with the family. And toward the end of the funeral, we all found out that LeBron had signed with the Sixers. And it was this very, like, you know, like touching thing to see everyone kind of like share that joy

for a few minutes. And it shows you how powerful sports can be, you know? Obviously, it doesn't wash away your pain or anything like that, but it can give you

a great distraction. I think the quote is like, the most important of the least important things. Like, it shows you like the power of that. So, yeah,

it was really cool, really cool to see LeBron with the thing. sixers. And it's like, it's like such a, like somebody who's like, oh my God, like the sixers are going to be so relevant like nationally now. I'm like, no, like globally. Like, you know, all over the world, people are going to have intrigue in the Sixers because, you know, the greatest, I'm going to be a show now. The goat, the greatest player of all time is playing for the Sixers now. If you would ask me a week ago, or two weeks, well, no, a week ago, maybe I would have had a

different tune, but I have, uh, he's all the Sixers now. He's ours. I have the pedantic distinctions. I have the pedantic distinction. What's that? LeBron is the best player who's ever lived, but Michael Jordan is the greatest players ever lived. I think that's fair.

There's a distinction between best and greatest. Yeah, because greatness is an intangible thing. Greatness is more about relative to your peers and best is,

and like the accomplishments and best is like the best, like Shohey Otani is the best baseball player who has ever lived. Yeah, that's fair. But, you know, Babe Ruth or whoever is

Willie Mays is the greatest. Yeah. It's a little bit of a distinct. Like, you know. Yeah. Yeah, I could see that. Like, greatest is... Michael Jordan playing in today's NBA,

LeBron would be better. Yes, but what Jordan... What Jordan did transcends. Yeah, I think that's fair, but again, LeBron Fletcher's from the 60s... Patrick Mahomes is the best football player who's ever lived. But Tom Brady is the greatest.

What do we got? Oh, it's been solidified. Oh. Yes, by one of the, this is the Eagles talking, not me talking. One of the more impressive players throughout the spring during OTAs. Rieck Wulin. He doesn't look like a cornerback. It's not supposed to look like that.

Six-four. This is the guy who got flagged in the NFC championship game. Eh, that's not worry about that. That's not worry about that. Although, you know what? I guess it is relevant. The Eagles were able to sign him to a one-year prove-it deal. It was decent money, but still, I would call it a prove-it deal, as you did on this great

graphic here. Shout out to Lindsay. Six-four, two hundred and ten pounds. Just a physical specimen at the position, and he's impossible to miss when you walk out on the field. And Nick Seriati said as much, said as much when he talked about who stood out in the spring. he said Rick Wullen was the player that stood out the most.

And it was the fact that he had splash plays. He had an interception against Jalen Hertz during OTAs, but also just consistent play. So I actually think, you know, I said this on Wednesday's show last week. I think that even though Rick Wulin is very clearly the third best player in the secondary, he might be the force multiplier

where Quinniann, Mitchell, and Cooper de Gene can be maximized. You can put them anywhere that you need them to play because you have Rek Wullen and you can trust that he's not going to be the weak link in that trio. So we can talk about safety, but in terms of cornerback trios, the Eagles are, I mean, I think pretty comfortably

at the top of the league with Seattle, but with those two, the best cornerback trios in the NFL. It's pretty exciting. Yeah, it's a fun group. I didn't think that they'd be playing in those waters. Neither did we. At the time, me and my co-host. And so, Macuba, who I remember had a good,

solid rookie season, and then is Blankenship back? Blankenship is with the signing. with the Houston Texans. Oh, interesting. He had a daughter, moved to Houston. He's living his best life down there, it seems like. It's fun watching the exciting mic says you probably didn't unsubscribe from.

You probably listen to them. Of course, I check a... Yeah, it's fun to see Reed's got the Lombardi trophy in the back. Like a real flex from him. I mean, what a podcast set up. And we, if we all could be so lucky to have a trophy like that back there. The other safety? The other safety is to be determined.

Marcus Sepps, Michael Carter the second, are the two in-house that are going to compete for it. You know, you got to do your homework on the gush. You're probably going to have to re-watch the show. Seems like a nice guy. Okay. I mean, they haven't gotten to know him too well. Lay a towel down. So Howie Roseman, as you know, could always make an addition midway through training camp. We'll see how the safety,

group looks. But going into things, I think Marcus Epps has the inside track. And I think that he deserves it. I think he played good football for the team last year, stepping in for Andrew McCuba when he got hurt. I think that my co-host has put it well, that Drew McCuba is kind of the ceiling razor for that group. I think it's actually probably more important that he looks like a competent, trustworthy starting safety back there. But that other spot, if you do have Drew McCuba as a competent starting safety, Marcus Epps is a fine option there, I think. So we'll see how it looks in camp. And then what about linebacker?

Nikobe was awesome last year. He was. Bawn back together? No, you will be very happy to hear if you just dropped in today that Nacobi Dean spurned the Dallas Cowboys and signed with the Las Vegas Raiders instead. Couldn't envision himself playing for the Cowboys, even though you didn't ask me about this,

but I'll tell you, Christian Parker, remember the secondary coach that Cooper to Jean? Oh, yeah, he was going to replace that. Quinnian Mitchell were saying it was instrumental to their development. He's the Cowboys defensive coordinator now. What? Yeah. How did we lose him?

Yeah, he didn't want to wait anymore. He wanted to be a defensive coordinator. Okay. And he knew, like, Vic maybe, maybe a court, maybe he had, maybe he courted retirement, but Vic does that every year. Any other important additions to the defense? Jonathan Grenard. Oh, that's good.

Yeah. I know him. Yeah, he's a, he's kind of your Jalen Phillips replacement. Okay. Oh, we lost, Dylan Phillips. Yeah, Jalen Phillips signed with the Carolina Panthers. $30 million a year. Oh, that's a lot of scratch.

Yeah, he also had a kid this offseason. Really? Yeah, you got to get that money. That's right. I remember he said that playing for the Eagles was the best thing that had ever happened to him. Yep. But now... How did you laugh about that?

Having a $30 million year contract and a new baby, I'm sure that that has been unseeded. Okay, and how does Grenard fit in? What are our expectations for him? I think he gives you a true number one edge rest rate at the top of your rotation. And then you feel really good about Jalick's hunt. And, you know, maybe Nolan Smith didn't have the best 20-25 that you would have expected, but he is someone who, at the very least, you know you're going to get solid every down play from.

And honestly, it's like better than most number three edge rushers on most depth charts, I would imagine. Oh, you think he's the Eagles number three depth ed rusher? I mean, I think you're probably splitting hairs between him and Jalick's Hunt. I think it depends on what you're after. If you're in a third down situation, you want to rush the passer.

I do think he's probably your third option behind Jailix Hunt and Jonathan Grenard. But every down, he probably will play more than Jalick's hunt. Yeah, I thought that he was going to be the number one down yet. Nolan Smith? Oh, I thought you were talking about. Yeah, I'm talking Nolan Smith.

Oh, yes. Yes. I think Jonathan Grenard is number one. He can play every down. He brings physicality. He brings pastures juice juice. Didn't have the best 2025 either, which is probably why we got our wires crossed there

because he also had a down year in 2025, but he's got a track record of getting double-digit sacks. He'll be your number one. I think Hunt is, again, your number two, high-leverged downs, but it wouldn't shock me if Nolan plays more than Jalick's hunt because he is such an every down present. Yeah. Okay.

So it sounds like the defense has a chance to be pretty good. I think it could be the best defense in football. Like, you know, there's some volatility. There's some year-to-year uncertainty and noise around that. But if we look up in January and the Eagles have the literal number one defense in terms of DVOA or EPA per drive, whatever your favorite metric is, wouldn't shock me at all. They have the talent to do it. They were really good last year, especially when Jalen Phillips was at a lot.

added after the trade deadline. And honestly, I think you could make an argument that they're better this year than they were even last year. Wow. Sounds pretty exciting. It is exciting. And Vick's still here. You know, best defensive play caller in the NFL.

I think probably one of the formative moments of the off season,

one of the big moments that people will remember going into this year is that the winds sort of shifted on Jalen Hertz and it wasn't necessarily public sentiment it was in like an honesty sense yeah exactly you know maybe somebody did some unsavory stuff sacrifice somebody to the wind god to shift the winds on Jalen Hertz oh is that a spoiler that's not a spoiler fine it's fine everybody relax yeah I would say the way that things ended last year. You know, there's a big piece in ESPN from Jeremy Fowler and Tim McManus. Two great reporters. Worst performance by me today than Tom Holland in the honesty.

Yeah, you had some tough moments in that movie. I like Tom Holland, though. Shout out to Tom Holland. You know, he's Spider-Man. Give him a break. He's good at Marion. He is. Yeah, he's very good at Mary. Shout out to him for that. He seems like a nice guy. Yeah, maybe it was a little out of his depth a couple of times. Yeah, so the wins shifted a little bit on Jalen. I think the way that last year ended,

there was maybe a sentiment of Jalen not necessarily getting all of the culpability for how dysfunctional the Eagles offense was in 2025 and people wanting him to have to face that accountability publicly. So again, there was a big story in ESPN by Jeremy Fowler and Tim McManus that quoted a lot of people who were either in the building or, familiar with how things transpired last year, pointing the finger at Jalen and his, you know, resistance to certain elements of the offense and being uncoachable at times. So, you know, I think that it's significant not because, again, the public feeling around Jalen, I think it's noteworthy that

there are people in the organization who feel like this upcoming season is going to be a proof of year for Jalen. Fair or unfair, I think that's just the reality that is laid out in front of us. Now, when you say that, you mean... What does he need to prove? He's already been a Super Bowl MVP. I think that they want him to prove that he is the type of quarterback that you give $60 million a year to. And again, I'm not making me... Do you think he could be gone?

Do I think he could be gone? I do based off the fact of what we have heard. I would qualify it with saying that this isn't necessarily my own opinion of Jalen Hertz. You know, I think Jalen is either in the top ten of quarterbacks or at least on the fringes of it. I'd have him in the top ten. but you know the league is feels differently about jalen you know he is more of a bottom third of the league type of quarterback in the eyes of a lot of the third yeah where was he in that list it was 17th i think right you don't know he was bottom half of the league quarterback and um in the espion

bottom third i think my guy jalen hurts what are you talking about i'm not telling you how i feel I'm telling you where he ranks in the eyes of the league, which is surprising. You're messing with me. Yeah, you should go back and watch the show where we talked about it. It was pretty... Bottom third. Pretty surprising.

I knew he was going to be ranked low. I mean, he's got a nice bottom third, but I don't know about... Bottom third or bottom half for that sentence that you just said. What are you trying to say? What are you trying to say? These quarterback has got good quads. good. Yeah, but if you do the third, you're kind of, you're probably like just below the knee. Yeah, I'm comfortable with that. You want above the knee? Your quads aren't part of the below the

knee. Your, your quads, your quads aren't, if you go from here down, you're just getting his calves. So you want to make sure that we get the area from here to here. I just, I feel like if you want this, you are the one who said this. No, no, no, no, no. No, you are the one. PG and you are trying to know the table to make sure that we include you you tried to keep everything here

you tried tried to keep it PG by saying that you like Jalen Hertz's bottom third and I am telling you that if you're trying to make an illusion if you're trying to allude to his quads you have to be higher than the bottom third so maybe it's the bottom 40% that's not that's not a third

you're not getting his quads if you do a bottom third and you were the one that made it rated R because you then had to think about what's above the quads, which, you know, we don't have to go there. You started this. No, I didn't. Yes, you literally did.

Okay. This seems like off-season mumbo-jumbo to me. Maybe, but I do think it's indicative of, like, how the league feels about Jalen and how the Eagles feel about him. What does the league know? I'm talking about Jalen freaking hers. This isn't me arguing that this is where Jalen belongs.

I'm just telling you... Why do you think I unplug from the offseason? So I don't have to get wrapped up in this nonsense. Well, you should be listening to the P.H.O.I. Podcasts. Full smack. I don't disagree with you, but this is why you're going to listen to our podcast. We call it out.

You know, we had a good conversation about it. All right. And we didn't talk about bottom halves or bottom thirds. Or bottoms. Power bottoms, I would say. Okay. What, you had one more thing you want to do. I didn't tell me.

Yeah, there was one other thing this offseason. CDP, I don't hate Jalen. I know that you're joking, but I just, I don't like it when people suggest that I hate Jalen Hurts. I don't ride the Jalen Hertz roller coaster. I'm never going to come on here and tell you he's a top three quarterback in the NFL. I'm never going to come on here and tell you that the Eagles should trade him for, you know, Jacoby Percette, which is maybe Nick Siriani.

I think Jacobi Preset's worthy of a trade like that. The last thing that we should talk about, especially because it could become relevant later this week, we'll see, is the Eagles extended Jordan Davis. Like stretched him out? No. They signed him to a contract extension.

They have not yet extended Jalen Carter. We are going to see how that plays out. Obviously, the Eagles like to get these extensions done as quickly as possible, more often than not, especially with players that are going to command the salary that Jalen Carter will command. But yeah, I think it's noteworthy going into training camp.

They haven't gotten a deal done. And we'll see. We'll see what happens there. So when I plug back in on Wednesday, am I going to get a headline that he's sitting in? It's hard to know. Like, in the NFL, like, yes, there are examples of players doing that. It doesn't happen with the Eagles very often.

And my theory is, A, the Eagles usually take care of this stuff. before it gets to that point. And B, I don't know. To me, it feels like, and this is, this isn't like source, this is just me talking. Like, it feels like you wouldn't play a game of chicken with Howie Roseman in that sense.

You know, like, I think that's not a language that Howie speaks. If you are going to, like, not show up to training camp and try to get leverage that way, I don't know. Everything we know about Howie, he's not going to lose that type of standoff.

So maybe Jalen Carter will try it. I can't say for certain. I don't know the answer. I know that he wants a deal to get done. I know the Eagles want a deal to get done. I know that they, at the very least, back in the spring, were far apart on guarantees and a few other elements of the contract.

So where they go from here, I think, is, you know, it's, I wouldn't say it's anyone's guess, but it's hard to figure out. But yeah, I don't know. I just, it's, the Eagles haven't had a high profile player hold out in a while. and when they have it hasn't really worked out in their favor. Like who was the last player to hold in or hold out? Like Zachertz came with the dyed hair and what it?

Or I guess. He didn't hold out. He didn't show up to OTAs. Just express to satisfaction. Yeah, but again, he got he got shipped out of town. Like, I don't know. It just doesn't seem like if you had a playbook for trying to get the best deal out of Hallie Roseman, I don't think holding out is really a part of the playbook.

but, you know, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe something will change. Well, hey, thanks for catching me up. You know, this has been fun. Fun exercise is a reporter. It's funny, in the offseason, more often than not during the show, I feel less like a reporter than I do during the season.

How about we just say that it is a great spectacle. It's a very, very just visually stunning movie. Like, it is a great adaptation of a story that, you know, we can be honest. like a little bit of a dry read, at least my, my recollection in high school. Although now, oh, ho, oh, excuse me. They're out on the open seas. They're all, we get very wet. I meant, I didn't mean that type of, I didn't mean that type of dry. That is true. That is true. But not as much in the movie in case anybody's curious. You say, you go, oh, disappointing. It's just a great, it was a good movie. It was a great movie. I think we could say it was great. I don't know

if it's in my top five like movies of all time. That's a pretty high bar. Well, yes, but some, there are people, you know, people are hyperbolic. They do that type of stuff. I'd say it's top five theater experiences, though. The only thing I would say without getting into specifics is it's, yeah, I think if you're, if you're interested in seeing it, it is worth seeing in theaters. I agree.

Although, man, I got to tell you, loudest movie I've ever been to in my life, but I saw a wide margin. It was a loud movie, man. You didn't think so? It didn't, I didn't clock it as the loudest that I've ever seen. Oh, easily the loudest. Sean said the same thing. I was texting Sean about it because I sent him a meme. Somebody, I think it was a review on one of the movie sites. You know, I don't do movie reviews or read movie reviews, but it was like, everybody's like, I ought to see this, I ought to see that. And boy, I ought to see a hearing doctor after being in that theater for three hours. Yeah, that's good. It was a good movie though.

I really enjoyed it. I think this is the highest praise. I will go see it again before it is out of theaters. I would think I would probably like to as well. Yeah. I want to see it on the 70 millimeter. We went to an IMAX theater. So we got very close to the full experience, I would say.

Like the screen was, the aspect ratio was at least close. It was more of a square than a rectangle. And, you know, I had like... How close were you? Oh, we had great seats. We were like maybe like six or seven rows from the back. to be nice from the back so we were yeah we had good seats but that's because we didn't see it in the 70 millimeter so uh i had like made a mental snapshot of the shots that they told you like this is

what it looks like on the little aspect ratio and this is what it looks like on 70 millimeter like without giving anything away like you know one of the shots you could see the full boat or like the full horse you don't know what the horse is if you don't know what the horse is like what are we doing um but i felt like we could see all the stuff we were supposed to see. And yeah, I want to see it. I still want to see it on the 70 millimeter, but the King of Prussia theater,

their equipment was broken. They just got it fixed now. Like, they didn't even have it, the actual 70 millimeter on. So I will see it in 70 millimeter. And we can talk about that more in... No, you jumped it. No, I didn't.

I think he might sign one where it's like he gets a win like a big win in one category but not every category like resets the defensive tackle market in terms of average value

but maybe the guarantees aren't as high as Jeffrey Simmons I don't know I don't see any reason for him and not take a monster if I'm him and then what do you do

if you can't get that this offseason. Are you holding out? I guess I would probably play, but... The tricky thing for him is that I know the Eagles don't use the franchise tag because of how they set up their cap, but he is a franchise tag player. He's not going to just become a free agent.

Yeah, he is a franchise tag player. So if you're him and you play this year out in your deal, then you're probably, your leverage then is like, are you going to tag me and trade me? you know that like that's the eagles worst case scenario probably so i think they're worst case no they would just tag him and have them play yeah if they can afford to that is a worst case scenario though i don't know it's a tricky one let's we should talk about tomorrow

This is the type of energy that I am after. It looks nice. Yeah. Yeah. I like it. So now that we're talking about it, I have a heat exchanger machine right now, which is a single,

boiler machine and you can exchange the heat to do the espresso but also to do steam and it's nice but the steam pressure is too inconsistent because it's constantly changing it over and you have to like you have to make your coffee at the perfect time it's got a 25 minute warm up time and if you miss that like five minute window when it's warm your steam pressure is not the same and it's too frustrating so I'm gonna check that out hoflax I appreciate that recommendation I'm gonna do it looks like a nice piece some machinery. Yeah, you want to see the one that I have my eye on? This guy right here.
