Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, everybody, and welcome to the P-H-L-Y Eagles podcast on a Tuesday afternoon. You know it. We are presented by Bet-365. Download the Bet-365 app and use code P-H-L-Y-365 when you sign up. Whatever the moment, it's never ordinary. At Bet-365, we've got a film review Tuesday here. Bow-Wolf, Fran Duffy, Zach Berman. Fran is in a nice little sweatshirt sandwich here.
Starting point is 00:00:26 As Zach and I have matching outfits, kind of cute. I think it works. We're doing promotional shots today. But it always is nice dressing similarly to a fashion icon like you, Bo. Hey, look, you know, everyone out there knows how this is going to go now. The show is already now on the show. The show is already now on the rails. The tension can be cut with a knife or with a friend, but we will push forward.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Anyway. Okay. you think that this was the best performance from the Eagles offensive line this season. Why is that? Well, it's one of the lowest pressure rates for Jalen Hertz in the game from a past protection standpoint. We talked about how good the Rams had been at creating pressure throughout the majority of this season. But for me, also, it speaks to the run game. And what we saw from Seqwan Barclay, a season high 99 yards before contact in this game. And it wasn't like a bunch of these runs were going out to the perimeter where you're going to get a lot of those yards before contact. so often they did a good job of opening up these holes at the point of attack for Sequin Barclay,
Starting point is 00:01:33 for Kenny Gainwell, for Jalen Hertz at times in this game. So to me, overall, as I was thinking about it, and we're going to get into some of the film, some of the screen grabs as to why I feel this way. But I thought this was one of the best execution games from the offensive line, especially in the run game, but certainly in past protection as well. Okay. We're going to get to, I think we're going to get to more of the run game screen grabs. So let's focus on the past game first.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Okay. Because, I mean, obviously, we all saw Jared Verse run over Jordan Milana, and there were some times where Jalen Hurts had to flee from pressure a little bit. But those did seem to be a little bit later into the play. So you think the past protection generally held up pretty well. I think, honestly, over the last month or so, it has held up pretty well in most of these games. I mean, you go back to Cincinnati and he was barely touched in that game, obviously, as we talked about then. But over the course of the last month or so, the offensive line has been really, really good in pass protection. Jalen Hertz has not been under fire for the majority of the last month and a half.
Starting point is 00:02:28 So I think when you look at this offensive line, it's always been trending that way from a past pro standpoint. But in this game, considering the opponent, considering what the expectations were for me going in, I do think that this was probably their most consistent game up front from that standpoint. How did they handle verse other than that play? Pretty well. I mean, honestly, a lot of you didn't see a lot of those fast pressures for Jalen Hertz in this game. It wasn't like, oh, man, like they have, they don't have an answer for verse or for Byron. Young coming off the edge. He's got a number of quick wins versus or Byron Young this season. I thought they handled Baden Fiske pretty well. You know, there was there was one sack, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:04 that happened on third down. But outside of that, I didn't see a lot of plays where it was like, man, like this offensive line was overmatched again against what has been a really young, feisty front for the Rams. Zeeby, I know you like to consume all of our content. I'm curious. Did you listen to the watchalong after the fact? No, I did not. Disappointing. I think you know a guy. You think you can rely on a guy. No, so I will say it. There was, I was trying to watch it during the game, but there was just, I'm there
Starting point is 00:03:37 live, right? So, yeah, the timing was a bit off. But I saw some of the clips, and I was really impressed. I missed, you and I did a game. What clips did you see? You and I did a game, the Cleveland Browns game. Preseason game. Yep.
Starting point is 00:03:52 And you're good play-by-play guy. Very good. Oh, thank you. Yeah. Yeah, you're... Best host in the city. Well, I've always thought that, but play-by-play. I mean, if we, you know, if we ever got rights to a team or something, you know, we should put you on the play-by-play, you're good at that.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Sounds good to be. Let's make it happen. Is that something you've experienced? No, it's not seriously. Did you do it in college? No. Okay. Did you do it like when you played video games growing up?
Starting point is 00:04:17 No. Just consumed a lot of it over the years? You're... Did you do in high school or anything? Nope. Wow. Yeah. Your cadence is.
Starting point is 00:04:23 is good. Yeah. Well, I appreciate that. Well, done. Nice of you to say. Yeah. Maybe you'll watch next time. The whole thing.
Starting point is 00:04:31 What clips did you see? We didn't put out any clips from it. You did? Yeah, it was a couple. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:39 It's mostly you and Jamie in that one. Yes. Oh, jealous. No, I was the reaction video that, uh, that Julie brought out. I mean, also friends, very good. I mean, you guys been analyzing the game. Yeah. Like, calling out, calling out runs.
Starting point is 00:04:53 schemes right away it's good stuff yeah but anytime i tried to say like oh like watch out for this it felt like the opposite happened especially early on in this game but yeah it's okay it's okay get the reps yeah okay all right before we move on to the running game and get through those clips let's let's take a little bit of a step back Zach the reports today that shack barrett coming out of retirement is this a possible uh domican sue linval joseph julio jones move for the eagles well so this is interesting here There's a bit of a complication. There's a difference.
Starting point is 00:05:25 And who's the second edge rusher they can sign to make it a two-for just like it was with Domic and Sue and Sunn-Vu and Lin-Val-Jose. Well, so there's a fundamental difference between Shaq Barrett's situation now and Dominion Sue and Lin-Val Joseph and Shaq Leonard last year. The big difference is this, is that the Miami Dolphins own his rights or hold his rights. I don't know. Whatever the right. Own makes me uncomfortable. Hold his rights. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:52 He has. There's contractual rights with the dolphins. So he's their property. He can, they would need to allow him to play for another team, okay? Because he retired while under contract there. And I don't know what the specifics behind this seems there. But so now, if you were to become free, I think that he is someone who the Eagles would be interested in. I would imagine, I mean, you just, it doesn't take much to say that.
Starting point is 00:06:23 32-year-old, I believe 32, skilled pass rusher, proven. He kind of fits the style play, the Eagles play, the Fangio-type scheme. So I would imagine that would be the case, but the complication, of course, is the Miami thing. Now, he had to apply for reinstatement for a reason, right? He didn't apply for a reinstatement for vanity, you want to assume. He did it because he wants to play. And so we got to see what happens with the dolphins, but it is something that I will be monitoring. There is a small transaction Eagles made, but I don't think it's insignificant.
Starting point is 00:06:57 And that is, and they haven't announced this yet. Mike Garfield reported this first last night. KJ. Henry, who was with the commanders last year, was a fifth round pick. We'll get Franz profile or draft E. E. Valon. But in his rookie year, he played 41% of the snaps in 10 games. He was a contributor with Washington. There's a new coaching staff. He gets cut.
Starting point is 00:07:17 He was on Dallas's practice squad, got cut. They're just adding him to the practice squad. they're adding to the practice squad. But the Eagles have three healthy edge rushers. So one would imagine Brandon Graham is going to go on IR at some point here. Now the Eagles could add someone to the practice squad. Like they could say, we have three weeks of elevation with KJ. Henry elevated for three weeks and then figure out what your roster situation is then.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Use the roster spot on something else now, on someone else now. But KJ. Henry is not like just a nobody here. He's a fifth round pick a year ago who played meaningful snaps for Washington. Sure. but to say he's been available he also was just cut from a practice squad true yeah but i'm saying but he's he's played in the NFL this year yeah he played in the NFL last year what was your what was your book on henry henry i was not super high on henry coming out uh i had a like a camp body fringe roster type of grade on him when he was coming out of clemson 2023 6 4 250 you know modest length uh athletically
Starting point is 00:08:13 i didn't think there was anything there to get overly excited about i was surprised that he went in the fifth round. I was surprised that he made the 53 and he played a bunch of snaps last year for what was a not a very good Washington defense. But I think when you look at Henry, again, to Zach's point, yeah, like he's played in the league. He's shown that he's like, you know, to a certain extent does belong. But I don't think he's moving the needle. I don't think this is somebody that, you know, is going to change the outlook of the defensive line post Brandon Graham for the rest of the season. But if you had the, if they played a game tomorrow, yeah, would you rather KJ. Henry or Toron Jackson?
Starting point is 00:08:46 I think it seems much more likely than me that he's replacing Terran Jackson's role on the scout team than it is. It's going to be bumped up to the active roster. I think I'd probably rather have Taran Jackson. Okay. Yeah. And, you know, I would put Taran Jackson in the same ilk,
Starting point is 00:09:00 but comparing the two, I think I'd rather have Jackson. Okay. So we'll see. You know, we know that how he's going to want to make a move if you can. There is another in the chat. I don't know if you guys saw this. I think this just happened before the show. James Houston is getting released by the Detroit Lions.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Interesting. Okay. Had eight sacks as a rookie two seasons ago in 2022. Yeah, so 2023 seasons ago now. My big thing, you know, because a bunch of people in chat are asking about James Houston, the big thing is, is the Detroit Lions are number one team in the NFC. They're gearing up for a playoff run. If he was going to bring value to them, he wouldn't be getting released. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:37 I mean, anybody available at this time of year is available for a reason. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, the only guys who would be available this time of year who, like, you can rationalize it. if a guy gets cut, if there's a veteran and a team is like, let's let's let him go to a contender or something like that. You could see that for Daniel Jones. Yeah, well, that's the type of situation. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Precisely. Okay. Back to the running game. Yep. And as we get to these clips, I want to ask you about Sequin Barclay because Zach and I talked about this yesterday, do you believe, like I do, that not only is, like, are we seeing the most production of Sequin and Barclay's career, but he's also playing better as. a running back this year than he was with the Giants. No question. You know, and this to me, like, stood out watching him week one, Green Bay down in Brazil.
Starting point is 00:10:26 To me, like, one of my big takeaways from that game when I wrote my film recap from that week was the patience and the vision and the discipline from Sequin Barclay and comparing that to what you saw from D'Andre Swift and what you saw from Miles Sanders, each of the last two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles offense and gave a tip of the cap to Jamal Singleton, the Eagles running backs coach. because with both, with all three of these players, before those seasons, that was kind of the knock on all of them,
Starting point is 00:10:53 was that all of them were a little bit undisciplined. Maybe they were big game hunting as running backs. They didn't always stay on track. They didn't always stay within the construct of the scheme as designed on the whiteboard. But with all three guys, you're seeing them much more, you know, much more faithful in terms of understanding,
Starting point is 00:11:07 like, hey, you know what? Like, that hole is going to open up. And so in the piece that just went up on all p.hly.com today, I wanted to point out a couple of those examples for, miles or for uh for saquan barclay where hey you know what in a game play like this last year in new york six years ago in penn state he's probably chattering his feet and running outside trying to cut back against the grain uh not trusting that's going to open but you can you can also understand why you would do that in new york right because like you're only going to get so many opportunities to bust a big play
Starting point is 00:11:36 and you can't trust that the blocking is going to be there but here whether that is a result of the offensive line itself whether it's jemal singleton pounding it into him or if or if this is like who he wanting to be all along, but wasn't able to, he is running differently. Yeah, and that's why, like, you know, think about the game, and we were talking about this during the watch along, as it was happening live, right? It felt like the pay attention to you're at,
Starting point is 00:11:56 because I know you weren't listening during the... It felt like... I was only covering the game. I'm sorry, yes. Like, got the bid up watching the actual game instead of listening to it, that you guys watched the game, but yeah. But it felt it would be very funny if you were sitting in the press box
Starting point is 00:12:11 and not watching the game just watching us. Yeah. that file the expense report but yeah but yeah they're kicking the extra point and Zach's like oh Seguine it's like too at a yeah
Starting point is 00:12:25 to stick up the kickoff but no I think when you look at at Sequin Barclay and the way Would you be a professional please? Sorry What was I say? Oh yeah okay so in that game the first half
Starting point is 00:12:41 seven yards eight yards seven yards eight yards and six yards for every run it felt like it was successful uh i i'm pretty sure he finished with like a 64 percent success rate on the ground in this game unbelievable for a guy with that many touches uh in one game and to me you looked i look back and i'm like all right like what are the resounding themes here and this is kind of you know it's simple but it was a little bit of everything you know there were plays where it's like all right sequin did a great job of just putting his head forward and just getting five six yards taking what was available to him then there would be another where you'd see this like crazy jump cut first play of the game he's going
Starting point is 00:13:13 going downhill and the hole is closing in on him and he executes the spin move that picks up an extra four yards that most backs aren't going to aren't able to do right and so you you get a little bit of everything where it's part scheme part offensive line part sequan barclay just being a freak of nature and all of these things combined just lead to what has been the the most explosive most dynamic most efficient running game in the NFL i wanted to ask you specifically about latent games um because johan hertz made a an interesting comment and he's He said, and I'm going to read this, I told Sequin this, okay, that two moments this year where we may have lost a game in the past or maybe mismanaged a four-minute situation
Starting point is 00:13:53 where he's truly making things easier for us when it comes to how we handle four-minute situations because his capabilities, even with a loaded box and being able to hit a home run, it was a big time play for us. So if you read between the lines there, he thought that they weren't closing games out well enough in the past, and that Saquan allows them to close out games because he can run when teams know they're going to run. And to me, that is going to be the hallmark of this team is if they continue on this track, right, where they're going to be trying to close teams out or you're trying to win in the four-minute drill.
Starting point is 00:14:22 You have to be able to run the ball when everybody else knows you're going to run it. Can you hold the football in those situations? And so, you know, with Sequin, again, it goes back to, you know, the trying to find those themes, right? So there are going to be plays where, hey, you know, the defense is loading the box. And that final touchdown run, they had 10 guys within, you know, six yards of the line of scrimmage of the L.A. ramps. They were loading up to say, we're going to stop Seekwon Barkley. You get great execution from the blocking scheme, and then you get Seyquon Barclay running away from everybody. So it was great blocking up front, but then you also need Sequan to be able to follow through. And honestly, too,
Starting point is 00:14:56 like he's got that breakaway ability, but then also like the size and physicality and demeanor as a runner that he can, you know, handle that heavy workload late in the game as well. And I always think, you know, Bo says this and he's 100% right, the players always know. and I think the cool thing about miced-up clips, you know, people sometimes make a big deal about, like, jokes that are said. But sometimes you can actually learn a lot about, like, what a player is saying or thinking in real-time. And it's amazing in all these mic'd-up clips,
Starting point is 00:15:24 whether it's like Slay or Zach Bond this past weekend or AJ Brown, you know, you go like every week, these players are like, Sequin's going to do something here. Like, you can see the reverence that they have for Seqwan. Yeah, we talked about that yesterday. I love when, like, you see a guy who is making, his teammates like mark out for just how awesome he has been. And certainly that has been the case for Sequin this season.
Starting point is 00:15:44 Why don't you take us through? Let's go with that second touchdown. I know you want to talk about. Yeah. So, Julia, this will be Barclay TD. We'll go with clip number one. So, you know, when you look at this play, and obviously this is late in the game,
Starting point is 00:15:59 the Eagles are trying to salt the victory away. This was an insane play from really the blocking scheme in general. You see 10 guys in the box. Yeah. Everybody's here. We've got one corner. It's 13 personnel. You got three tight ends out in the field. And you could see that the Eagles are running a play. It's called counter where you're going to have two pullers coming from the backside. So you can see the pullers right in front of Jalen Hertz and Saquam Barclay. That's Mackay Beckton. It's following behind him. Now, the target for Mackay Bechton on this play, almost always. That first puller is going to kick out the what is called the force player, the defensive end. He is going to try and take that defense event and block him towards our right, towards the. sideline. So you're going to kick him out and that's going to create the outside edge, the outside lane for Saquan Barkley. Julie, if you go to the next shot, you will see that that defensive end,
Starting point is 00:16:48 he chased the tight end inside. And so he's working really hard to spill this to force Saquan Barclay off of his path and get him outside and basically kick him to the corner. Now, Mackay Beckton, there's two ways you can go about this. You can say, all right, well, you know, I'm still going to try and force him outside. Maybe I'm going to try and block him vertically, almost like towards us, right, towards the bottom of the screen. But the Mackay Bechtin does an outstanding job. Julia, if you go to the next screen here, you can see that Mackay Beckton actually turned inside and just basically says, all right, if you want to go inside, I'm going to take you inside
Starting point is 00:17:21 and he just basically creates that pin. Now, Grant Calcutterra is the next guy up. He sees, all right, Mackay got turned inside, which means there's no outside edge here. So when I take on this block with Cam Curl here, the veteran safety on the out of the box, I'm not going to just try and fit him up and work vertically. I need to create a lane for Sequan. Sequan's going to read off of me. And so I now have to take my block and work him outside
Starting point is 00:17:43 because Mackay Bechtin couldn't go outside. So that outside lane, that outside alley has not been created yet. And you think they're doing this all live. All the fly. This is all on the fly. So Mackay Bechtin has to react to that movement from the defensive end. And then Calcutera has to react to the movement from Mackay. And then Seekwan, he's got to follow all of this as it's happening, right?
Starting point is 00:18:02 Because usually this run should hit inside of Calcaterra. He usually that counterplay, you're working on the inside shoulder of that second puller. But because of how things kind of worked out here, it got a little muddy. And so, but Calcutara did an outstanding job. He takes the safety and runs him out. Julie, if you go to the next shot, it's the final one. Perfect. I mean, so basically, Mackay Beckton and Grant Calcutera, they swap, right?
Starting point is 00:18:26 And that happens on the fly. That's what to me, like there were a few examples of that in this game. It was actually the opening drive. I think it was like play seven or play eight where they got the guy, the same two guys, the same exact thing and the play went for six, seven yards. But this one, it came back and you were able to get the huge touchdown, 70 plus yards for Sequin Barclay. Shout out to Grant Calcutera.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Coming along as a blocker. Well, we've got another one coming up too where he did something similar. But huge shout out to Grant Calcutara because, look, and look, he's not going to line up and block a defensive end one-on-one, hand in the dirt. And I'm going to feel good about that every single play. It's like his blocking awareness is high. It's just the strength at the point of attack that might not be where you want to And the willpower is there.
Starting point is 00:19:07 He's competitive. He's going to give you all out effort. So you're asking him to lose slow. Honestly, you're getting it's like the Zach Gertz, like question, late career, Zachertz, where, you know, all right. Yeah, he's not going to win every battle. But if he can give you games like this as a move blocker, that's great. And frankly, as far as I'm concerned, if a guy's blocking like that, could you throw him one six yard pass, please? Unbelievable that you didn't hit that.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Ridiculous. By the credit, DJ Smith had a good story on Sunday about Grant Campa Tara. I wanted to ask about Bechton, if I can, because you mentioned him there, and he's getting some YouTube love. I'm sorry, he's getting some social media love right now, too, people who don't watch the film as well as you, but are pointing out how well he's playing. Also, Baldy, who watches his film real well, is giving him a lot of love. It seems to me, when I watch it back, he's been near a difference maker there. He's been really good. And it struck me, I looked this up.
Starting point is 00:20:03 There's only been three players in the Jeff Stoutland era. who were not homegrown players by Stoutland who went on the start be full-time starters. Okay. Bechton, Brooks. Or four players, four players, yeah. Including back in. Yeah. Beckton.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Three players before this. Brooks. Now we're talking like full-time starters. Full-time starters. Okay. And one wasn't even here to be a full-time starters. I mean, Wisniewski. Jason Peters?
Starting point is 00:20:28 No, no. No, because he was Stoutland got here and he was here already. And don't tell us. well it makes for bad podcasting you feel like thinking the chat is playing along right now uh wow you want to give you a hint no you want me to tell you who what position well no because it can only be one of four positions okay uh and like there's not like a full-time starter for lane so it can't really be lane and left taco was peters to my lota so it's got to be a guard and so is there a guard pre-brooks yes it's a pre-brooks guard so yes well not mathis no uh there's got to
Starting point is 00:21:08 person who replaced Mathis. Alan Barber? Yeah, Alan Barber. Yeah. So, so clearly, like, you know, for Stout to go and get... Is it Alan Barber? Alan Barber? Yes. He just said that.
Starting point is 00:21:22 Oh. Okay. Sorry. For Stout to go out and get him, for Stout to move him the guard, for Stout to start him, clearly Stout seeing something in him. What is Stout seeing that is so intriguing? I mean, certainly, like, it gets into what they look for in the draft, which is, like, those unique unusual skill sets, right?
Starting point is 00:21:42 And for a guy that's that big, that powerful, he's going to have those kind of plays that, honestly, like, if you're comparing him to Tyler Steen, that's what we're about seeing had to do, right? That's what the team did. Tyler Spleen would be an interesting, it would be a good Halloween costume. How would you visualize that costume looking?
Starting point is 00:21:59 It's just a Tyler Steen jersey, except there's a hole in the jersey where the spleen would be. So it's like there's like an x-ray of your spleen. Anything like hang out? Thank you, Julia. it. Joey is a perfect audience for you.
Starting point is 00:22:11 Seriously. He laughs at all your jokes. But to me, like, if you're going to compare, and we've talked about it, to me, I think when you look at Beckton, and this was still the case in this game, he had more like, whoa, blocks than anybody. But he also will have some where it's like, ah, like his hat placement wasn't perfect there. Or you know, just the more where it's like, all right, like, that's a negative mark in the notes.
Starting point is 00:22:34 And Passpro is inconsistent. Yeah, Passpro has been inconsistent. He's been better the last few weeks. Honestly, that might be part of the reason why we've talked about the group as a whole. The past protection has been better is that he has kind of stepped his game up there. But I think that overall, he's probably their highest variance offensive alignment. But even then, like, the highs are really high. And the lows for the most part aren't that low.
Starting point is 00:22:55 So that would be the way I would kind of look at it is that while he is slightly inconsistent, I mean, the highs in the run game are so, so good. And so, you know, I can see what the vision was in terms of, oh, this is the best thing they've had since Brandon Brooks there next to Lane Johnson and we know what that can look like when you have a guard that looks like Brandon next to Lane that's what you want you don't think about a question if I can what's that do you think him I mean there's only so much money to go around but yeah I mean I would think so now they might like the way Steen's developing behind the scenes now but but when you have someone or go spleen's the Eagles and Howie are not usually in the business are not in the
Starting point is 00:23:35 business of letting good 26 year old players leave right and like the age profile the talent profile at that position like the Eagles I mean they they'll let a guy who's like a backup leave you know like Vaitai but typically if you play offensive a defensive line and you're a good starter and you're you're in your 20s how he tries to keep you and if they assess them as a good starter a quick football guy question hold on we got to take a break oh just after this I would like to hear the football question though you're a football guy question you know else uh uh our football guys and girls and people.

Starting point is 00:26:50 All right, so before we get to your football guy question, a super chat that is along the lines of what we were just talking about. And that is, how do you think the Eagles will approach their extensions coming up between Bechtin, Milton Williams, and Zach Bond? All of those guys may be up for bigger deals than expected. love the outfit combination today, by the way. Coordination. Coordination, yes. And what you guys don't even know is that we're also, neither of us wearing pants. No, we are definitely wearing pants.
Starting point is 00:27:17 I am wearing pants. I am wearing pants. I can assure you that. So. Doesn't look like it. I'm professional. So, good question here. I think of those three, like, Bonds playing the best.
Starting point is 00:27:33 Yep. The position that they least prioritize, but the problem. position where they have the least amount of options. And I don't know what Bonn will command on the market. It behooves Bonn in this sense is that he's good here in this scheme with the in this, in this defense. This is probably his only chance to get a real deal. Yeah, that, that too.
Starting point is 00:27:55 Linebackers aren't getting big money on the open market. But yeah, I do think for the reasons I outlined last week with the money the Eagles are paying at corner, which isn't going to be much beyond this year, I think that they can allocate more to linebacker. Milton Williams is a player that they really like, that I think that they would love to keep. And I said this before the season, and I stand by it. I think Milton can get more on the open market than the Eagles might be able or willing to pay him here. Now, there is a world where the Eagles don't keep Jordan Davis, you know, they don't exercise Jordan Davis' is fifth year option.
Starting point is 00:28:34 Jordan Davis is on an expiring deal. The Eagles can, could essentially earmark money to Milton Williams that they would give Jordan Davis, then add a nose tackle in the middle rounds of the draft, that kind of thing if they, but I think, I think Molyums is going to be like a big time for a agent. Do you disagree?
Starting point is 00:28:55 I was thinking about it. I feel like the role that he would play here with the Eagles, if they were to try and keep him, like that's the role that any team I feel like would. would try to bring him in like i don't think he's going to sign somewhere to play like the amount that jalen carter's playing right like he's going to play the amount that's why i think he i think he would get a starting defensive tackle job yeah yeah but i think that's what he's that's what he's gonna have here yeah but i think he would get 10 i think he would get like 10 to 15 million on the open
Starting point is 00:29:19 market i think he gets more than 10 okay yeah so then and that's the thing are you paying your number three defensive tackle i think he's their number two i mean he is by snaps but i'm saying but but also they could look at like moro ojima as someone who yeah as a comparable player. You have to make some tough decisions. And then Mackay Beckton, starting offensive guard, maybe if you think Steen can step in and be that guy for you or potential draft pick next year,
Starting point is 00:29:44 then you let Bechtin go. Becton maybe could be paid to play tackle somewhere. But I know they like Bechton. By the way, good acting job by Bechton. If those of you who saw the Santa Drives an Astrovan video, shout out to Mount Joy. Matt Quinn, great actor in there as well. A fun song.
Starting point is 00:30:08 Is it Matt Quinn or is it Quinn Matt? No, it's Matt Quinn. That's right. Doing a great job with, you know, Jason Kelsey, he can tell us all about Kakatera. He's our tight-end expert. That's true. Lane Johnson, but really well-produced video, number one.
Starting point is 00:30:23 And make sure you get a record. It's going to a good cause, Philadelphia Public Schools, to a gift for all the students. Do you take any value from back? Bechton being in the video? It's good question, right? Juergens isn't in it. He's on the inner...
Starting point is 00:30:38 Yeah. In the inner circle. He's a fun personality too, so that could... I also think, I mean, listen, I think all those guys should go get the most money they can get. But I think given the situations they've come from, you could see an argument where Bechtin might be the most willing of the three to take a discount to stay. Because, first of all, he got a lot of money up front as a first round pick. He's been somewhere where he's seeking. the other side of it and here he's in a very good situation whereas bond this is a great spot for him
Starting point is 00:31:07 yeah but this is probably his one chance to get a real big deal well so we go to the market and milton williams i think the same thing you're absolutely right yeah and those are those guys are third round picks absolutely right now my kind of uh football guy question for you and i was thinking this the other day when lane johnson was talking and then you just brought it up why don't you guys say i'm putting you as a football guy it's a compliment okay okay why don't you guys say helmets Why is everything hat? Lane's always saying hat on hat. You know, everything changes when we do hat on hat.
Starting point is 00:31:38 You just said there's times when what the hat, the hat placement's not right. What's wrong with saying helmet? Why say hat? You can save a syllable here and there. Okay. So it's a combination. That's what they say. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:50 Have you wondered that? I don't know that I've wondered it, but I didn't notice it. I'm sure there's probably like professional colloquialisms that you use that I'm like, hey, why would you say that? But I can't think of any off top of my head. Okay. I'll thop my hat. There you go.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Don't. Intimate. Into it. All right. Let's do our ACE hardware temperature check, my friends. We're going to take a look at somebody who is heating up or cooling off with our ACE hardware temperature check visit Ace Hardware Home Services Online at www. ACE Hardware homeservices.com to get started on your next project.
Starting point is 00:32:32 Let's talk about Kenny Gainwell here. Because, you know, as we try to figure out a way to have a little bit less wear and tear on Sequin Berkeley, quietly, Kenny Gainwell running well lately. And now on this touchdown drive, or the touchdown run, rather, you liked what he did. Yeah, I thought he did a really good job of just kind of staying on course, staying on track for where this run was supposed to hit. And if, Julie, if you want to pull up Gainwell TD1, we'll go through. I've got a handful of screen grabs here on this play. Now, they're in the red zone here on this touchdown.
Starting point is 00:33:03 And just really quickly, you just want to show this is a basic four-man front from the L.A. Ram. So you've got the two defensive tackles, two defensive ends. You've got two stack linebackers. It's a basic four-two look here from the defense. Now, with Kenny Gainwell in the backfield, in the shotgun to Jalen Hertz's right, if the Eagles are going to run inside zone, it's going to be a play going to the left, right? And so what we've seen teams do to try and combat the Eagles. zone running schemes is that we've seen a lot of slanting to try and disrupt the timing of those double
Starting point is 00:33:35 teams and really just try and get that penetration in the backfield. We've talked about that in these last couple of weeks. And so that's what is going to happen here on this play. Julie, if you want to go to shot number two, those defensive tackles that were lined up over the court, over Landon Dickerson and Cam Juergens, they are slanting to our left here. And so they're trying to cross face. And that is going to make this trap play really messy for the Eagles. Last week when they ran those traps and those whams. I said, man, when these hit clean, it's like one of the prettiest plays in football. But this is when you have those slants up front, that can really mess with it being a really pretty run. And so what you get.
Starting point is 00:34:10 It's very funny still of the way that Lane is running. I mean, he looks like just an ogre. It's a blur. He'll actually, what he looks like is, uh, uh, the end of Happy Gilmore. Okay. Yeah. I believe that's Mr. Gilmores. Yeah. That's the way he's running right now. Go ahead. Well, if we go to the next shot, it looks a little cleaner for him. Uh, for the next one here. He's got to block this defensive tackle, who, again, is running away from him, slanting towards our left.
Starting point is 00:34:35 And so Lane's got to travel a long distance here, which means by the time that Kenny Gainwell gets this running, gets up to the line of scrimmage, that block's not going to quite be set yet. And that's why the tackle traps can be risky business because you're asking those tackles to go a long way. Now, Lane happens to have outstanding range, outstanding athleticism.
Starting point is 00:34:52 He's going to get there and make this block. But the other player you have to worry about, Julie, if you go to the next shot, that defensive tackle that is crossing Cam Juergens face. Now very similar to that last block, the last play, the Sequant touchdown, Mackay Beckton, he's trying to block his guy towards our right, towards the sideline. Very similar here, Cam Juergens is trying to block his guy down. He's trying to block it to our right.
Starting point is 00:35:12 But now that this defensive tackle crosses his face and is going to his left, Cam Jurgens could do one of two things. He can either, I'm just going to latch on and just try and run my feet and kind of work him vertical, but this run's supposed to hit right downhill. Instead, what Cam says, is all right, if he's trying to go to our line, left or to my left, I'm going to take him where he wants to go. And that's one of the, honestly, that's one of the things like with an undersized center, you're not going to out muscle guys all the time. So you have to kind of lean into players momentum. So if that defensive tackle is trying to go to
Starting point is 00:35:40 the left, I'm going to steer him that way and just run him off the picture. And Julie, if you go to the next shot, again, this is where that run is going to hit. So if Cam, if he, you know, stalemates him and tries not to move him here or just accepts defeat, well, now this is you're creating a brick wall, brick wall for Kenny Gainwell, credit gainwell for staying on track here and just playing this downhill, but I really love what Juergens did on the front side of this. So it's supposed to, it's designed for it to go between Jurgens and Dickerson, but because that's the way that the guy's slanting, it's not going to go between Juergens. Exactly, right. So I thought that Jorgans did a really good job of kind of playing through this to make sure that he had, you know, that he was able to do a good
Starting point is 00:36:19 job here. Now, how about Cousin Grace? Already knowing where we were going here. She said she thought She saw the Wham while watching the game. I love that cousin Grace. Cose and Grace, nose ball. Outstanding job. Warm's my heart to hear that. Now, the other part of this where inside baseball, I missed, I had to redo all of these screen grabs as we got here to the office.
Starting point is 00:36:40 And so it didn't send you the exact one that I wanted here. Julie, I know, just terrible by me. Grant Calcutera did an outstanding job on this play again. So Calcutara is on the right side here. You see his jersey, number 81, right side of the formation. He's got to block the defensive end on. that side. And what you see from Calcutera, when he first puts his hat on, on the Byron Young, his hat is on the outside and Byron Young is on the inside. And he has got to do everything possible
Starting point is 00:37:06 to try and cut off that defensive end because that defensive end can get to Kenny Gainwell. You can kind of see here that he's got that inside track. If Calcutera doesn't make that block, he's going to be in trouble. And so what you see here from Calcutera is that he keeps working. And Julie, if you want to go to the next shot here, as he makes, contact with that defensive end. Initially, the defensive end is winning, but you can see right in the middle of our screen that Calcutara just kept running his feet, was able to get his hat across and ended up getting the guy to the ground.
Starting point is 00:37:36 Did an outstanding job. You see that Gainwell has already gotten up to the second level. Also, reflecting back to last week's conversation, bottom left of our screen. Lane Johnson calling his shot. He's saying that this one's going to go for a touchdown. Now, this one's a little bit. Although Gainwell does still have a little bit of work left to do. He does.
Starting point is 00:37:51 And Lane did it again in this game right on the on the call it. The first long run of the first long touchdown. The first play of the third quarter, he called it. And what I also appreciate it, we talked about how like, oh, like, Mackay Beckton, his batting average is not as good. Julia, if you go to the next shot, he waited until he was short. Oh, yes. Before he put his on.
Starting point is 00:38:12 Kenner, he's about to cross the goal line when Mikey's arms go up. So he waited. He did a nice job of giving a little bit of time before he called his shot there. Nicely done. By the way, on the topic of the ACE Hardware Temperature Check, I need to take an L. Okay. We're on this show five days a week, year-round. We put opinions out there often, probably more so than I've gone in past jobs.
Starting point is 00:38:38 I put opinions on the record, and when I'm wrong, I need going up to it. And I say, going into the year, I think Will Shippley's going to be the number two back. I think Will Shippley's going to be ahead of Gainwell. And credit to Bo, Bo, push back on me there. and it's very clear Gainwell is like the number two guy and Gainwell, you know, every chance they get, they talk up Gainwell. You see the reaction in those shots.
Starting point is 00:39:01 Like Gainwell's very popular in the locker room. Players were real, felt really good when he scored that touchdown. So yeah, I mean, I think 12 weeks since the season, it's fair to say that change has not happened. I mean, a little bit disappointing for a guy who was drafted at the same level as Miles Sanders. Literally, he never said that.
Starting point is 00:39:20 Never, you see, Bo, You took it too far. That's who you looped him in with. No, I said their highest drafted running back since. I mean, if you draft a guy. Miles Sanders. If you draft a guy at the Shady McCoy, Miles Sanders level. And he's still your third running back as a rookie?
Starting point is 00:39:36 No, it's disappointing. Bo, that is a fact. He was their highest drafted running back since Miles Sanders. Like, there's no, I'll say this again. You don't, you're entitled to your own opinions and you have many good opinions. You're not entitled to your own facts. That is like a verifiable fact. You gerrymandered those stats, those facts in a way to make it sound like Will Shipley was on their level as opposed to on the pump-free level.
Starting point is 00:40:01 Once again, I can't control your inferences. I can't control my implications. It's your fault for bringing this back up. You didn't have to. I was owning up to it. But let's get to our advertisers. What do you think, Fran? I'm staying out of this

Starting point is 00:42:43 Flex. The best thing I can say, though, the best endorsement I can give, is that I use your product, right? I'm not just reading the text. I use your product. I got off the plane Friday in Los Angeles. I had been tracking prices all week on game time. I opened the GameTime app.
Starting point is 00:43:04 I'm in the rental car shuttle, and I decide at that point, I'm still not ready to pull the trip. I'm still not ready to buy it. And then I get into the car. And still not, you know, last minute deals. I had about seven minutes to go. Okay.
Starting point is 00:43:21 I didn't want to. Obviously, you're looking as you're driving. I didn't want to do that. And so before, so I got in the car. And before I pulled out, I said, all right, I'm going to make my decision now. And I bought my ticket to the Clippers game then. Where else? But on game time. Okay. I want to take my son to the Villanova Eastern Kentucky football game game this weekend. We need more inventory on game time. For that, I've been checking it out. I'll be checking deals up until the last minute there. The reason I do this is because game time is the place to turn. It has this new feature called GameTime Picks, which I used on Friday. It makes getting your tickets to your favorite live events even easier.
Starting point is 00:43:57 Game Time Picks filters out the fluff to show you only the incredible deals on great seats. We can use Game Time Picks on the show, actually, filter out the fluff, right? So you don't have to waste time searching through thousands of tickets. I like the curated deals that make it easy to find the best price on great seats. I like the Super Deal. I love the seat view before you buy, so I know exactly what I'm getting into. And then my favorite part of all is the all-in pricing. Togging this feature shows the total up front with no surprise fees to check out
Starting point is 00:44:26 because there was something I was looking to buy recently. And then I saw the price after the all-in. And I'm like, I'm not doing that. All-in pricing is where I like to turn. Game-time picks, a curation makes it easier to save more on sports, concerts, comedy, and theater. The lowest price guarantee or game time will credit you 110% of the difference. Take the guesswork out of buying tickets with GameTime. Download to the GameTime app.

Download game time today. What time is it? Game time. By the way, I was thinking about your review of the Intuit Dome yesterday, which to me was such a perfect encapsulation of the state of, this is not technology, but the state of technology where it's like, oh, what do you like doing? You like coming to a game, getting some food and watching the team. well, how about this?
Starting point is 00:45:19 What if we made the food a lot more expensive, but in order to do that, that can pay for the fact that you've got a couple of buttons at your seat now? Wouldn't that be a lot of fun? Can't we just ruin this thing for you and make you pay more for it? Look, we don't need to go. Fran has a lot of good football inside to get to. But that is a conflation.
Starting point is 00:45:37 They're not charging more for food than they do in Philly or anywhere else. Actually, if I can be honestly, the food in Philly is more than the food there. had, I researched the food there ahead of time for like recommendations. And I found a, they recommended it. It's like, they called it. What's that? Your own little cake? Oh, that's gross.
Starting point is 00:45:59 Okay. No, it's like a sushi hot dog type thing, but it's actually not a hot dog. It's not a hot dog. It's like spicy tuna, like roll up, but it's like you eat it like a hot dog. Okay. So they call it like, they call it a sushi hot dog. But this is what was recommended. And it actually said it's their famous.
Starting point is 00:46:16 thing. And I went and I asked someone where, because I saw the hot dogs and I'm like, this is where. They're like, no, this is in the refrigerator, the sushi, the sushi hot dog. And so I got that. And it happened to be really good. And it's a great thing to eat at a game, right? Because it's, it doesn't get all over you. You can eat it in your seat. I highly recommend. The idea is like, would you go to a Clippers game and look it over and Zach is just going to town on a sushi hot dog? It's not a hot dog. Look, Clouper, it's in quotes here. Sushi dog. Everything from, yeah, sushi dog is what they call it. It's called the famous sushi dog,
Starting point is 00:46:52 tasty, fresh, and so unique like a sushi burrito and the size and portability of a hot dog. Julia likes it, right? I try it. Yeah. Highly recommend it if you go to the Intuit dome. Well, they say it's famous, so it's got to be good. All right.
Starting point is 00:47:09 You want to quickly go over what happened at the end of the fourth, or at the end of the second quarter? In your mind? Yeah. Nick, I asked Nick about it today. just to double back because he didn't want to talk about after the game again he did not want to talk about it but he respects the question he respects the question he knows we got to ask the question but he doesn't want to get into it yeah i mean basically we can look at it real quick i'll just kind of like you got to make sense that's something that doesn't make sense right is it is it relatively clear that it was jalen calling at the line it was pretty clear jaylin called this at the line uh julia if you just go to fourth down one i'll just go really fast here um you got two they're they're playing for some kind of a hell mary so you got
Starting point is 00:47:45 two safeties, three zip codes away. So Jaylin comes in the line. He sees that. It's a lighter box. Julie, if you want to go to the next shot, it's just going to be a QB draw. They've run this a bunch of times where you have the center pulling up to the front side.
Starting point is 00:47:57 You can see that the play is actually developing nicely from the screen grab. Now, you can make the argument, and rightfully make the argument that you still got to pick up at least eight yards under seven seconds with calling a time out. So even if this does hit correctly, it's still a stretch as to whether or not you're going to be able to call that time out in time, but essentially, Jordan Milana misses the block. Julie could just go to the next shot. Jordan misses the block. It doesn't hold that defensive end well enough, and he gets home to tackle Jayland
Starting point is 00:48:25 from the loss. It's just bad process. It was bad. Yeah, I mean, even if they get it, there's no parents. The downside there was so much lower than the relative upside. So that was silly. Okay, let's talk about the defense. Yep.
Starting point is 00:48:39 Another game, as you wrote about on all p.hly.com in which Vic Fangio's in-game adjustments were on display. But one thing that we have seen is, as Jalen Carter continues to get double-teamed at this super high rate, Vinnie talked about it in the post game, what that has made is like just one-on-ones for everybody else, and those guys are winning those one-on-ones, including the Kobe Dean.
Starting point is 00:49:03 Yeah, because essentially there are two things. When you have a player that is going to attract that much attention from opposing offensive lines is, yes, you get the natural one-on-ones. And so, you know, that might mean it's good good things for Nolan Smith and for Milton Williams and Jordan Davis, Josh Swed, everybody across the board. If one guy is getting two sets of eyeballs on them, then that means everybody else is only getting one for the most part. And so that certainly
Starting point is 00:49:27 makes things easier. But one of the other things that to me is really important when you're dealing with, especially for a defensive tackle, you know which way the offensive line is going to slide. Well, that is step one to being able to attack protections and saying, okay, we know where the center is sliding. Well, now we know how to get somebody on a running back. And so I thought the sack for Nikobe Dean was a great example. Julie, if you want to go to Nikobe sack number one, basically you'll see that Jalen Carter, he's lined up to the defensive left at left defensive tackle where he normally is lined up. The Rams are going to slide that way. And so the Eagles here, Julie, if you want to go to the next shot, they are going to send
Starting point is 00:50:02 Nikobe Dean from depth. And again, he's with the offensive line sliding that way, you're basically saying, okay, we're either going to get a free run here or it's going to be the running back Kyron Williams picking up Nicobi Dean. And that's exactly what you get. So, Julie, if you go to the next shot, you can see that it's Nikobi. And you can see the space, right? They knew this was coming because they had the defensive tackle slanting over to that side. You had Nolan Smith taking a wide lane.
Starting point is 00:50:25 Is no one taking that wide lane on purpose? Purposely to make sure there's a nice. To give the goby Dean's space. Yeah, a well-defined space to be able to work. And so to me... Is that part of the play or is that the chemistry between the two minutes? No, that's the part of the play. That's the design typically when you get...
Starting point is 00:50:38 And so the right defensive tackle is also... opening up that hole as well. Yep, exactly. And so it goes, remember the Cooper de Jeanne's first game, where, you know, we saw him blitzing off the edge, the defensive ends, they're looping inside to try and shorten that angle. Everything is, typically when you have these blitzers coming from depth, is that you are trying to make that path to the quarterback as clear and decisive
Starting point is 00:50:59 and as short as possible. And so there, Nicobie Dean's able to get home. He wins against Kairn Williams. This is a really good pass protector, and he gets home for a sack. Love that. I like that's a good, good detail on how they made that matchup happen. Yeah, before we do the BG thing, let's actually, let's go to Zach Bond, since we're talking about the linebackers.
Starting point is 00:51:19 And you talked about how like Vic Vanjo's go-to adjustment often is to bring Zach Bond down toward the line of scrimmage. And we also talked about how this is like deja vu for Sean McVe, the poor guys must be just like seeing Vic Fangio in his sleep tonight, just demonized by the guy and he did it again. Yeah, so very early. in the game, Julia, if you want to just go to Vic Adjust 1, very early in the game. It was one of the first place.
Starting point is 00:51:45 I like the inside baseball we're getting on the way that you label your screenshots. Well, just to make it easier for Julia to call it up. It's just interesting. I figured it's better than maybe like A1, A2, A3. All right. So Vic Adjust 1. Let's just take a look here at this one. The Eagles have four down linemen, and this is going to be the long run from Kyram Williams.
Starting point is 00:52:04 But you've got four down linemen here on this play. And Julie, if you go to the next shot, that means you've got two sets of double. team. So you've got the center and the left guard going up against the nose tackle. You've got the right guard and the right tackle going up against the three technique. And so you get two sets of double teams. They're going to work up to the linebacker. That's going to get Kyron Williams up to the second level. If he is able to make one man miss, which, spoiler alert, he does here on this play, you get an explosive run. So that's typically what you get with this four down look. Now, who did you make miss on this one? He made blanket chip miss on this one. Now, CJ Gardner Johnson was also
Starting point is 00:52:36 a little bit late to the party. You can see CJ is lined up here. He's going to be blocked by Cooper Cup, he had the ability to come here backside. So I actually put this more on CJ to that he should have been there a little bit later. Since he was a little bit late to the party, that's why Kyron Williams is able to get to blanket ship. It shouldn't have even gotten to that point, but he makes blanket ship miss. And then CJ ends up making the play down the field. But this goes for 23, 24 yards here on the opening drive, gets them into the red zone. Very next play, they came out and they came in a five-man front.
Starting point is 00:53:04 So right away, Vic Fangio's like, no, we're not doing this again. But I thought this was a better example on a cleaner look. Julie, if you go to the next shot, this is what happens. You get a five down look here where you're going to take Zach Bond. Instead of him being as an off ball backer, he goes down on the line of scrimmage. And basically what happens on these zone blocking plays,
Starting point is 00:53:22 it's all, you know, it's all like assignment based, obviously, a numbers base where it's like, okay, if there's four guys down, that's going to, the double teams are going to deploy themselves a little differently than if it was a five-man surface like you see here on this one. And so since it's a five-man front, Julie, if you go to the next shot, the only double team off the ball is against the nose tackle, and that's more Ojama.
Starting point is 00:53:41 And so everybody else is going to be clean to win one-on-one. It just gives you more opportunities for those guys to be able to win. You can see Jalen Carter, he's making his guy miss on the backside. Brandon Graham, he's bench pressing his guy into the backfield. It's going to this is going to end up being a BG TFL. Julie, you can just go to the final shot there. There's BG finishing this off. But by putting that extra man down in the line of scrimmage, that gets the numbers advantage
Starting point is 00:54:04 back in the Eagles favor that way. if they're going to bring in an extra tight end to put him on the line and say, okay, now the double teams are even. Now a sixth guy can come up on the line of scrimmage. And we've seen that chess match go back and forth here. And that's been one of the go-to checks for Vic Fangio over the course of the season. So Zach Bond's skill set allow them to do that. In other words, if Bonn were injured and Jeremiah Troutter Jr. were starting.
Starting point is 00:54:25 You wouldn't be able to do that. You wouldn't do that. So basically what this is, remember last year the Eagles had that penny package where the lone linebacker was Nicholas Morrow and you would have three defensive. Basically they would play with their base defensive front with Reddick and sweat and three defensive tackles but only one linebacker. That's what they would have to do in that
Starting point is 00:54:44 situation. So now you're talking about all right, we have to do substitutions and all that. Here they can still play in their basic nickel package but completely change the front up. This is positionless football. This is that this is that idea here on display. How do you feel about Bonn being used as a straight
Starting point is 00:54:59 head rusher in situations moving forward with no brand of gravity? Less it's not ideal. It's less than ideal for sure. I mean, there's a reason why he's he's kind of been a bit player in that role. But I mean, if he if he has to do it and you just need healthy bodies just to give guys reps like or give them rest on the side, like that's fine. But I don't I don't love that. But that kind of did you rather see or in Briggs or Trotter Jr. on the field? I mean, long term, probably just to see what Trotter has, probably. We saw both guys in in garbage time here again in this game. You know, Burks gave up. There was a shallow crossing route. just looked slow just kind of you know like I think it could be the injury you know he's coming back from too but um I'd want to see Trotter I mean he was around the ball his first three or four snaps just want to continue to see a little bit more of him so that would probably be the bigger but they also might just play more dime yeah in that scenario too uh so we'll see and then and then just
Starting point is 00:55:51 to I made this point on a show last week but I was speaking to Bobby king recently and when he was talking about Zach Vaughn he emphasized like don't just call him an inside linebacker now because he's his versatility allows him to play all these different roles yeah i think that when you you can look at it and say okay he can play as your off ballbacker and you're playing a line of scrimmage as a strong side linebacker if you're going to play with three three if you're going to play with that kind of a look and then obviously what he can do as a rusher uh as a as a rush linebacker uh yeah he does a little bit of everything i also think it's fair to say you know players over coaches but if we're talking about like individual coaching jobs what bobby king has done to be
Starting point is 00:56:29 able to get zach ball and ready to play inside linebacker is probably as good as the eagles have had. You're absolutely right. And look, I know Nicopoedine's healthier this year, but Nicopoedine hasn't played this well the past two years, like even when you saw him in training camp or preseason games, right? And so... And it's interesting, especially this week when you think about it with the Ravens coming up, Zach. I mean, this is an interesting matchup of a team that really pays for linebackers and one that tries to get by in other ways. Maybe there'll be a story on all p.g.O.I.com as part of a, well, on Black Friday. You must be read that. I'll see if I can write something the next couple days.
Starting point is 00:57:02 let me because you're a football guy coaches you know like i i i do feel like if if stoutland was sitting in this room he would talk to you differently than he would talk to bow and me although no him and bow have a backup line but he would i mean he like like you're in the the coaches um he knows you love yeah um the the the term war daddy oh that's a callback war daddy if you're talking to if you're talking to uh you're talking to uh you're talking to a coach he says we got a bunch of war daddies how would you interpret that Um, this guy's got a screw loose.
Starting point is 00:57:36 Uh, there's a, there's a couple of different ways you can kind of look at it. I mean, Brandon Graham, you could call it as a wordage just because of like that competitive nature, uh, you know,
Starting point is 00:57:46 guys that kind of bring that, that edge, uh, you know, to them. I would think that's kind of the best way, the most succinct way to describe that. What about a word?
Starting point is 00:57:54 Did he? I don't think you want to touch that. I did see that in the news and I am not going there. Wow. You know, I wanted, yeah, I want to let the iTunes comment or know or the Apple podcast comment or no.
Starting point is 00:58:07 I do have, I'm not naive about everything. I am familiar with something. I do know that reference and I'm not going there. All right, Zach's very plugged in on what's going on with Diddy these days. We thank everybody for watching live on television. Go to all-PHLY.com to check out the rest of the show. Let's give a little love to Brandon Graham and what was his going away game at least for the season. Yeah, I think that we saw him get the TFL there on that play,
Starting point is 00:58:32 on the five-man front, but this was actually, this actually one actually came from the Discord, because I went on to our disco, which is another reason to be a diehard. You can be a part of our Discord community over at all-P-H-L-Y.com, but Bobby B over on the Discord, wanted to see the Brandon Graham Sack.
Starting point is 00:58:47 And so I said, all right, we'll just do a quick breakdown of the Brandon G-G-Sack-1. So, Julie, if you want to bring up BG Sack 1, we'll take a look at Brandon Graham. Now he's rushing off the left side here, and so you can see him to the far left of our screen. And basically what he's going to do,
Starting point is 00:58:59 he's going to take that inside arm, and he's going to throw the inside arm, first against Warren McClendon, the young tackle. Now, McClendon's already in trouble because McClendon has turned completely to the sideline. And when you are turned to the sideline as an offensive tackle, that is typically bad news because you're going to struggle to anchor. You're giving up a softer corner for the rusher to be able to get home. So this tackle is already in a bad spot.
Starting point is 00:59:21 But BG is going to throw that inside arm. And then what he's going to do with Julie, if you go to the next shot, he's going to bring his left arm and just basically use that once the, because by throwing his inside arm, he's getting McClendon to throw his hands. So now that his hands are thrown, BG now takes his outside arm, and he uses that to chop those hands down to basically clear his hands and get to the corner. And you could see on the next shot that when he uses that outside arm to wipe the hands down, McClendon actually loses balance, and he's going to the ground right now.
Starting point is 00:59:52 BG takes his inside arm that he used to throw first. Now he's violently ripping through, and he's basically just going to ride that momentum to get home. And also for the next shot, I just wanted to show. just the violent finish on Matthew Stafford, but not only how violent he was when he arrived, first of all, you can see McClendon. McClendon's on the ground on the far left, but you can also just see perfect placement from BG
Starting point is 01:00:13 on the shoulder of the quarterback, so no helmet to helmet, arm attacking the football. I'm actually really sure, going back and watching this in slow-mo, how Stafford held on to this football, really, really impressive by him, because BG, I mean, he put it right onto his throwing shoulder.
Starting point is 01:00:28 He had his arm going through the carriage point of the quarterback, This ball should have been on the ground. He's not standing on Matthew Stafford. He doesn't want to get hit anymore. You know that was his first sack on Matthew Stafford in his career? I did not know that. He had sacked. His first career sack came against the Lions.
Starting point is 01:00:47 And Matthew Stafford was the starter that year. But he was out for that game. Do you know who the quarterback was? Arlowski. No. Although Siriani would have liked that if it were Alasky. Jeff Garcia. No.
Starting point is 01:00:58 I'll just tell you. Give us the initials. No. Give us the initials. H. Sam Howell? No. S.H.
Starting point is 01:01:09 Steve Hutchinson. No. Sam Houston. Sean Hill. Sean Hill. I always think of him of the Vikings. I don't think of him of the Lions. Weird throwing motion.
Starting point is 01:01:18 Very elongated throwing motion. Maybe that's why BG got the sack of him. He didn't get many. All right. Last thing that we have on the defense, Fran, is the request from the Discord to back down what happened on the Cooper Cup touchdown at the end of the game. Some real self-fifference. flageulators on the discord who were not happy enough with an all-around impressive performance
Starting point is 01:01:36 and into complaint about something so they found the garbage time touchdown it's like man we're really digging deep I got to say before you do that I did listen to the post game show and I was about to it was a good joke by Bo I was about to like scream into my car when we're like we got to start with the end of the second or the end of the first quarter because I knew that was rankling you so much in the first quarter and I didn't thing there was a slight chance that you did want to start with the end of the first quarter or the end of the first half sequence so and then you're like just joking and then bini said say say qual on it but yeah so uh that was funny yeah it was uh if you were watching on the uh the watch
Starting point is 01:02:16 along you would have been able to get our analysis live oh my bad i was that the game yes um all right so let's go to the last one uh julia it's uh cup td one um so obviously look this is garbage time backups are on the field for the most part for the eagles up front uh linebacker backup safeties in. That's Sidney Brown in the middle of field. Eagles are playing a version of cover three here on this play. So you see three deep DBs. That's Quignon Mitchell, top right, just near the 10-yard line.
Starting point is 01:02:41 That's Sidney Brown in the deep middle. Isaiah Rogers down at the bottom of the screen. So it's going to be three high safeties. Weird that they wouldn't get Kili Ringo in this game, by the way. Yeah, I mean, I guess, I guess, to me, like, yeah, like maybe get Quinyon out. Yeah, get Quintan out, get, get Avanti Maddox in there for Cooper to Jean. Yeah, I would agree with all that. All right, so let's go to the next green grab here.
Starting point is 01:03:04 And this is actually just a couple steps before. I just picked this green grab just because you can see where Stafford's eyes start. So if you look to the far left here, Matthew Stafford's dropping back. He's looking to his right. So if you're Sidney Brown in the deep middle of the field, not only is he rotating to the post, but he's also going to cheat that way a little bit because he's reading the quarterback's eyes. Stafford is looking to his right. Julie, if you go to the next shot, you're getting mirrored route concepts here from the L.A.
Starting point is 01:03:29 ramps. It's a vertical shot play where basically the outside receivers are running out and up. And then the inside receivers are all running skinny posts towards the middle of the field. And for Stafford, he just has to read which way is the safety cheating. As long as that corner is not undercutting it, then I'm able to make this throw. I'm picking my poison. Is he going to go to 86 Parkinson down the middle seam toward the bottom or is it going to go to Cooper Cup working the numbers at the top of the screen? Now, this ball is already out.
Starting point is 01:03:56 You can see Stafford has let go of the football. The ball is mid-flight. it's right around the 20-yard line. Cooper Cup is open. But the big thing here as well was that not only was he reading the safety, but Julie, if you go to the next shot, Quinion Mitchell actually stumbles at the breakpoint. If he doesn't stumble, I think he might be there to be able to disrupt this
Starting point is 01:04:13 ball at the catch point. Cooper Cup's about to catch this ball at the goal line, but Quinyan stumbles there. So I would look at this and say, like, yeah, like it's going to go down as a touchdown against Quignon Mitchell. It's in zone coverage. He was reading the safety. He's not reading Quinyon Mitchell there.
Starting point is 01:04:27 So, you know, that's one of those where like the coverage, the metrics will probably point to this. That's a touchdown allowed by Quinnion Mitchell, but that's just one of the things about playing zone. Okay. Yeah. Nothing to worry about long term. No, definitely not. How many hours of sleep did you get last night, sack? Seven.
Starting point is 01:04:45 I did not watch the Ravens game, unfortunately. I wish I watched it. I fell asleep during the game as well. Yeah. I'm going to have to go back and watch it this week. And I got to say, I consumed a lot of hardball coverage leading up to it. I didn't even get to watch. I woke up to a bunch of texts about that game.
Starting point is 01:05:02 I did go back and watch the fourth down sequence because I saw that on social media. Oh, you were down early. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I went bed before 9 o'clock last night. Wow, good. Yeah, I, I actually. What time were you up? This morning?
Starting point is 01:05:19 Like 4 a.m.? Not like 5.30, but I was up in the middle of the night for a bit. So I get up and then I scroll my phone until I fall back. to sleep. So the perfect way to fall back to sleep. The ring only accounts for when you're actually sleeping. So not just like if you go to bed at nine and you get up at 5.30, it's not all that. So and then it tracks your deep sleep, your R.E.m. sleep and your light sleep. And each are different for your restorative nature. Which you've also already called into question. It's accuracy. No, that's not true. I didn't call in the question. You're baiting me here. I'm not going to,
Starting point is 01:05:52 I'm not doing. You said. You didn't get your plain thing right. No, well, no, because I wasn't sleeping, but in my mind, I wasn't working. So my eyes were closed. So that's the thing. So I closed my laptop. That's not what you said yesterday. Yeah, no, I said I closed my laptop. You said you didn't think it took you eight minutes to fall asleep.
Starting point is 01:06:13 Yeah, I didn't think it did, but it clearly did. It clearly did. You think that knows when you fell asleep better than you did? Yes, absolutely. Because your breeding is different. You're everything. But as long as you're not working, you're sleeping. Well, if I'm not working, yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:31 As far as you're going to say, does that go for everything? Well, particularly on a plane. If I'm not like working or reading, then yeah, then I, then that, like, if I'm not doing some. It's not how it works. It's like productive and unproductive. Or like. Well, yes. I mean, I'm not just like sitting there staring at the, uh, so I put my laptop down.
Starting point is 01:06:54 I put my AirPods in all sleep. And I close my eyes. And then from that. point it took me eight minutes to actually fall into us in it to actually fall asleep but but you want to you want to jerry rig the in your own mind in my mind that counts this time that i'm sleeping because i i had set my alert because i had set my alarm at that point for um i was still on west coast time uh so i think it was like uh four a m yeah um or three a m maybe so i said it for like a round number and so i finished the Brandon Graham story, like what, six minutes before or eight minutes before,
Starting point is 01:07:32 I put my computer down, put my AirPods in and close my eyes, and then I guess it took eight minutes from that point for me to fall asleep. Julia, what is going on here? I don't know why this is a joke. Well, I do, because it's not time I'm working. That's not the definition of sleep. All right. Okay, I get it.
Starting point is 01:07:57 I get it. He didn't officially punch out. wasn't listening to a pie i i i i had like um music on in the background that i was hoping that would put me to sleep that that's not explaining that well whatever uh super chat from chasing a plane view i was worried we're going to where we're going to get i know we keep the streets on man uh were the rams bad tackling was the rams bad tackling sean decide's fault well Sean Dessai works with the offense with the Rams. So I would say no.
Starting point is 01:08:31 So was there lack of ability to counter Vic Van Joe's counter Sean Decide's. I mean, you have to ask Sean McDadee that one, but I would say probably not. So he works with the offense. He worked with the offense. So that would explain, by the way, because someone I respect is who I don't want to say who it was. I've reached out and he said, do you think there's anything to the fact that when Nick was talking about, he said he was talking about how much he respects the Rams and he mentioned a bunch of guys
Starting point is 01:08:59 that he's worked with before he mentioned Chris Shaw and Greg Williams and he didn't mention and Jeff Smith or Giff Smith yeah yeah Giff Smith but he didn't mention to say and someone asked that that was intentional interesting it would make sense that he was talking about the defense yeah and I'm sure there's since he's like it's not like he's obviously he's coaching on the staff but it's like in a you know auxiliary role but he wouldn't he wouldn't bring him I also, yeah, I think, I also think Nick doesn't want to, yeah, like, rip open a wound. Sure. Right.
Starting point is 01:09:31 I also want to say because, and Fran, you were right on last, last, last week, talking about 97 on the Rams. Michael. Michael Hoyt. Hoyt. He was the one who Lane Johnson pinpointed in his comments after the game that the way they were using Hoyt was like disrupting them in the run game. It was disrupting the Eagles in the run game in the first half because that was, that was messing up their combo blocks. He was lining up over the top. And he said once they figured that out in the second half, they thought they can get more production.
Starting point is 01:09:58 And if you just see the first half, second half splits. And Lane said, that's why you have to stick to the run. Because, like, it's going to progress once you get hat on hat. Hat on hat. There you go. All right. Thanks for watching. Thanks for listening today.
Starting point is 01:10:14 Tomorrow, live from Reading Terminal, Jamie and Handsome Rich at 2.30. Slight tweak to the schedule there. And then you will see us again. On Friday, the three of us with Dane is as well. So that means we can wish you a happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the holiday, everybody. So if you want to watch the game with fellow like-minded sickos, that's the place to do it. okay what i just want to say i mean i hope to i hope to head over to the terminal tomorrow between interviews but if if for some reason i don't i want to wish the audience and you guys a happy thanksgiving it's my favorite holiday of the year so there's a lot for us to be thankful for this year how are you going to account for the time eating if it's not sleeping or working well that's i mean that's special family time i uh thanksgiving's important to me so yeah i will not be when no Thursday night I'll be writing, but definitely not during the Thanksgiving.
Starting point is 01:11:26 I will not be thinking about work during Thanksgiving. Unless the eagle sign a edge rusher. I believe you that you care a lot about Thanksgiving and that you'll be focusing on the failing time, but there's absolutely no chance. During the duration of Thanksgiving, you won't be thinking about it. Howie, I know you watch the show, especially 73 minutes into it. Please don't sign an edge rusher between like four and eight on Thursday. Okay.
Starting point is 01:11:53 Happy Thanksgiving to all you sickos out there, especially the, you know, the regular sickos who were in the chat. We appreciate all of you guys and everybody else.
