Starting point is 00:00:00 The PHLY Eagles podcast. High noon on a Monday, starting the week off right. Bo Wolf. Zach Berman, ready to talk. 53-man roster projections. Projections. Projections?
Starting point is 00:00:43 Projections? I don't know. How you doing, Zach? Doing great. Excited for the show. Excited for the week. The schedule comes out this week. That's always fun.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Big day for Emily. Yeah, big day for Eagles fans. And, yeah, look, for them like? What is Emily like better? Mother's Day or schedule or release day? Well, Schedule Release Day allows her to plan for the rest of the year. Mother's Day is a chance for her to appropriately be celebrated. So, I mean, knowing Emily and how much of a planner she is, I would say scheduled release day.
Starting point is 00:01:15 Okay. Well, maybe that's the gift that Roger Goodell is giving. Trust me, that gift would not suffice. We got, no, did you get, were in the doghouse yesterday? Did you not pull enough weight? No, no, no. It's just I have to pay more attention to gift giving than. No, I was fine.
Starting point is 00:01:33 I was good. It was good. You famously did not just write a letter this time. I famously did not just write a letter this time. No. That's good. Yeah, more than that. We're going to get to the Eagle stuff.
Starting point is 00:01:45 But I mean, everybody wants to know. How did the big celebration go? On Saturday. The baseball team. It was awesome. It was great seeing these guys. I'm proud to be part of that team. and hadn't seen some of them in a decade, two decades, right?
Starting point is 00:02:01 It was great. They all asked about Julia. And we had a chance to reconnect, a number of them. I listened to the show. And so it was, yeah. They've been waiting to see what you're going to say about this evening. No, so it was just, it was fun. I felt, yeah, it was.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Do you guys have a catch? Did we have a catch? Yeah, throw the ball around. I did not know they were some of the better players in the team throughout the first pitch oh okay that was not me I didn't get in the games there were zero zero right
Starting point is 00:02:35 so I was a joke on my behalf I thought that won't get more of a reaction that was not like some well-crafted I don't know what didn't you expect to the reaction that's but yeah it was not it was great go out and celebrate afterwards yeah you joined in okay good You were debating whether or not you were going to join in or not.
Starting point is 00:02:55 I joined in for a bit. And then it was Mother's Day Eve. I got home at dinner with Emily and the kids. But no, that, yeah, went to the bar afterwards. I reconnected, shared some memories. And it was awesome. What are their thoughts from the show? You were probably asking them, what can we do better?
Starting point is 00:03:13 Yeah, that came up a bit. They like to show. They like you. They think it's so cool that Julia's producing, right? They all know Julia. So you guys all went to where Julia went to high school. Yes, yes, yes, we did. Yes, we did.
Starting point is 00:03:28 And, and it's, you know, it's, it's fun. It's fun seeing like, yes, it's fun seeing them in that setting. And it's been two decades. And like I said, you know, I was, I was one of these guys who back then, like, this is what I wanted to do, right? So it's cool. It was cool catching up. Okay. What else is new?
Starting point is 00:03:50 What else is new? You told me. How was your weekend? Good weekend. Good weekend. Good weekend with the family. Okay. Very nice. Good time. Good. Okay. Okay. Anything else going on the Eagles world? The Eagles. Oh, yeah. We are an Eagles show, right? Ostensibly.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Ostensibly. No, pretty quiet, to be honest with you. Next week is OTAs. So, or it's the start of OTAs for them. So they'll be on the grass, so to speak. You know, actually playing football. So looking forward to that. The schedule. The true that OTAs were named after the former offensive lineman Jeff Ota. I'm positive. That's not the case because they are an acronym. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Yes. Well, sometimes acronyms can be named after people. Is that right? Yeah. Isn't by definition acronyms are... Yeah, but you can force feed the acronym. You know,
Starting point is 00:04:39 Pocoda, for instance. All right. Yeah, like beef, balanced eyes, elbows follow through, right? Who's that named after Bob Beef? No, it's named after beef, right? It's like... That's not a name.
Starting point is 00:04:51 No, but I'm saying it's... But the... But the acronym was chosen so you could, like, PEMDAS is not. Yeah, correct. Yeah, I know. But that's what I'm saying. But it was specifically about people. We are, what?
Starting point is 00:05:03 Why are we so off the rails? You're the one who brought this up. You're talking about a beef. Yeah. No. So this is how we got off the rails for those paying attention. And the YouTube commenters and the iTunes. The iTunes comments will know this.
Starting point is 00:05:18 I said they are on the field next week for OTAs. And you said, are they, is that name that they're just? So that's how we got off the rails. Yeah. This week, no, there has not been been much going on. The schedule comes out Wednesday night, like we said. The NFL opener was announced today. That's going to be the Chiefs first of Ravens.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Looking forward to that. And then, of course, two nights later, the Eagles play against the Packers. Isn't it one night later? One night later. Yes, thank you. One night later. Chiefs play against the Packers. So, yeah, that'll be fun.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Yeah. You got your speed already. No, I mean, I think it's going to be a quick, a quick in-and-out trip to Brazil. Okay. All right. Let's, let's, we're taking a step back. We want to look at the overall roster. Now, we did sort of go through the depth chart on offensive defense last week,
Starting point is 00:06:12 but this is a way to sort of talk about where the numbers might be tight and the big decisions that are going to face this team. No, obviously so much is going to change between now and. And when they have to make these decisions, there will be injuries, there will be some player additions, all that stuff. But this is a way to sort of check in. Sure. And frankly, pass the time. No, not past the time.
Starting point is 00:06:33 This is a, I think this is a worthwhile exercise for a few reasons. First off, we speak about camp battles, right? This will illuminate some of the spots that there is heavy competition. And then on the other side of the spectrum, this will also show where the Eagles could still add because there are positions where Hallie Roseman is going to be looking at the waiver wire each day or trade candidates each day and they might try to
Starting point is 00:06:58 fortify those spots. So I think it's productive from those points and as much as the Eagles you know as as much as Howie says they're always kind of building the roster, the two main pressure points of the all season are now passed. The main waves of free agency and then the draft. A 53 man
Starting point is 00:07:17 roster projection before free agency doesn't make any sense. A 53-man roster projection going into the draft is incomplete. Not to say this is complete now, but you have the players we're discussing today are about 95% of them will be the ones who are on the 53-man roster. Yeah, I think that's right. And let me give you my big takeaway, big picture macro-wise, from going through this exercise because I actually think the roster is pretty healthy.
Starting point is 00:07:46 I do not think that there are a lot of places where it looks like they need. need to add anybody. And to me, that this is not necessarily a huge revelation, but you just look at the quality of the roster on paper and it fortifies the belief that if anything doesn't go right this season, it's going to land squarely on Nick Siriani. Well, certainly more than Howie Roseman, right? Yeah, that's the thing. Yeah, you're absolutely right.
Starting point is 00:08:15 I mean, when you talk about Howie, like handing the roster over, to Nick. Yeah. I think that in that building, they're viewing it like Howie's handing a really good roster over to Nick. Now, there are two positions in him, we'll get to, but I'll just say tight end and defensive tackle are two spots where I could see them considering adding. And of, of course, those are positions that they did not address in the draft. Right. So that that would be the reason that comes up. And then the other thing is Nick Siriani's not going to, you know, go into Jeffrey Larry's office and be like, hey, you know, we were, yeah, we were seven and ten. but Howie never really got me that third tight end or six defensive tackle that I want.
Starting point is 00:08:53 No, you're absolutely right. But I would say, so if you think about offseason priorities for Hallie Roseman, their corner, like this exercise showed their cornerback depth chart is in a much better shape, is a much better spot than it was a year ago. Now, a year ago, you would look at that and you would say, well, James Bradbury and Darius Slate, but behind them, depth was a major concern. and they've really done a good job there. When we get to linebackers, I have five new faces,
Starting point is 00:09:24 or four new faces in this linebacker group, rather. So they've changed over that position. Oh, I should also have safety to spot where I could see them adding as well. But, you know, I think there are still question marks about edge rusher. There's still question marks about interior offensive line. But I think they got better with wide receiver depth.
Starting point is 00:09:45 They upgraded a running back. like this is, I think, overall, a better roster than they had a year ago. That said, they are missing three of their best players from a year ago, Jason, Kelsey, Fletcher Cox, and Hassan Redding. Yeah, and I think, you know, one of the most important positions in the way that Howie Rosman wants to build the roster is the defensive line. And you would probably make a case that they're not as good there. So that's one big difference. But yeah, I think the health of the roster is good. Okay, let's go through this.
Starting point is 00:10:12 And on offense, you and I do not have a ton of differences, but we'll go through position by position and the decision. We made quarterback pretty cut and dried. You know, there's four guys on the roster, but Will Greer, it would be a pretty major surprise if he made this team. I think Jalen Hertz, Kenny Pickett, Tanner McKee is a pretty straightforward, one, two, three, and hard to believe that that will not be the case barring injury. Exactly. Yeah, Will Greer is really here to help introduce the offense.
Starting point is 00:10:41 He has background in the scheme with Kalmore and Doug Nussmeyer, and he's the fourth camp arm. So I don't even know. It would surprise me if he's on practice squad this year, right? He's just a camp arm at this point. These are the three. I don't see a situation barring injury where the Eagles kept two. So I think it's going to be McKee, picket, and hurts.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Yeah, Will Greer seems like the prelude to a coaching career. Sure. You know, maybe this gets his foot in the building. Good point. Something like that. The Alks Taney effect. Right, exactly. And by the way, Julia, I mean, we sent these to you 20 minutes.
Starting point is 00:11:16 before the show banging out these graphics, fantastic work. Outstanding. Super chat from Chris, who says, shout out to Zach and Bo. Been binging the P.HL White Eagles pod while I'm sick, and it's getting me through it. Zach, he wants you to know, rice Krispies are good. Well, the Rice Krispies might be, they might be making you sick, Chris, but I hope you're feeling well. Chris, I really appreciate that. Appreciate you watching.
Starting point is 00:11:41 And while we're on that, not to kind of like... Plus, by the way, very impressive typing from a cat. the audio listeners have no idea what you're talking about. Chris's picture is a cat. Chris, honestly, that means a lot. The most rewarding part of this job is the community that we have watching us, but not to keep, not to pat ourselves on the back, but I'll say I'm grateful for all the nice comments about Friday show with Brandon Brooks.
Starting point is 00:12:09 We left the show or we got off and I said that might have been the best show we've done, right, since we've been here and it had nothing to do with us had to do with brandon brooks and professor selman um but real proud of that show and i hope uh imagine if you're watching now you watch that show but if you're listening back or you're just trying to catch up uh check in on that because i i thought brandon uh was open was honest it was conversational fun show your boy uh your boy scott pulled me aside on his way out a quick ball yesterday said that he liked you like that episode Thank you. That's awesome. Appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Shout out to Scott. Okay. Quickball. Is that what you said? Yeah, that's what I said. What is Quickball? It's the prelude to T-ball. What's the quix representing?
Starting point is 00:12:57 It's supposed to go fast. Yeah, but T-ball, you're hitting off a T. Okay. What are they hitting on? There's like different stations. It's not a proper game. Gotcha. You're learning to throw or you're learning to hit.
Starting point is 00:13:08 It's, yeah. Okay. I just had that. Is that something I'm supposed to have heard of? Well, I don't know. Do you have kids? Yeah, my kids play baseball. That's fine.
Starting point is 00:13:17 My kid plays baseball. Yeah, these are free. This is a prelude to that. It's below that. Okay. Below that was. But I don't know why Quick is hanging you up so much. I had never heard a Quickball before.
Starting point is 00:13:29 It's named after Mike Quick. I doubt it's not unless it's an acronym, right? All right. Let's get back to the show. No. I don't want to. All right, let's talk about running back. Now this is an interesting one
Starting point is 00:13:45 because they have a few guys depth-wise, Tyrion Davis Price, Lou Nichols, who have been in the league, Kendall Milton, the undrafted guy from Georgia, but we both have them going relatively light based on what they've done in the past. Usually they carry four running backs. We both have them only keeping
Starting point is 00:14:01 Sequin Barclay, Will Shipley, and Kenny Gainwell. Yes, I was considering Davis Price here, but when I was just putting the 53 together, the same way the Eagles would. their spots when I went heavier, I couldn't really justify keeping a fourth running back, especially with the practice squad rules. They gave Davis Price a good guarantee, right? He's even more than they would, like an undrafted free agent.
Starting point is 00:14:25 Davis Price is going to have a shot to make this team. But given that Barclay is going to have such a big role, we expect him to be a 300 snap, you know, or I'm sorry, 300 touch guy, 70% snap guy, unless there's an injury. I don't say I think they can get by with three on on on the 53 on the 53 man roster. Yeah, I think this is more about guys like Davis price and Lou Nichols. You would feel comfortable just getting them through to the practice squad. They'll be in the building. You'll have fortification if you need it.
Starting point is 00:14:58 But they don't necessarily require a roster spot to keep them. Now whenever we have this depth running back conversation, you bring up Lou Nichols. Is he is he someone that that you find? Well, there's only six guys. He's one of the guys. But my point is, I'm interested to see Lou Nichols. He would have a very productive college career. Interesting body type.
Starting point is 00:15:18 I don't know. I'm just curious to see him. See, that's a sufficient answer. Plus, I like the spell of Lou. That's a sufficient answer. I didn't think it was an unreasonable question. No, it's not an unreasonable question. The totally reasonable question.
Starting point is 00:15:29 But it's also, there are only six guys. Of course. Of course, like, you always bring him up. You always bring up Tyrion Davis Price. Why do you do that? Because that's a good question. because the draft pedigree, former third round pick, who they gave a decent, guaranteed money to.
Starting point is 00:15:46 Guaranteed money often indicates the interest that they show. When you get the T-ball, you'll understand this reference. That's teeing you up. I like the threat-level midnight comment that reads Simmed Ahead through T-ball and Quickball straight to baseball. No, it's coach pitch. Okay. This is my, we've talked about this.
Starting point is 00:16:05 Tyrion Davis Price is a third-round pick. Yes. Who was in the 49ers offense, like the most running. back friendly offense in the league. Kyle Shanahan didn't want him. That to me is more signal than like Lou Nichols was a seventh round pick with the Packers. They had good running backs.
Starting point is 00:16:20 I'm more willing to believe that he has untapped ability than that Turing Davis Price all of a sudden is going to turn it around. I'll counter. Trace Serman was a similar type of story. Exactly. Yeah, who the Eagles carried on their roster. And then the Indianapolis Colts brought in and he actually played meaningful snaps
Starting point is 00:16:40 for the Colts. So that is suggestive that there's talent, that a player is a third round pick who gets waived or, yeah, who gets waved at that stage of his career, teams tend to think that there's talent
Starting point is 00:16:53 that can be scratched as opposed to undiscovered running back talent. But look, our friend the cat, scratch him. I don't know. How long do you think you can get through
Starting point is 00:17:11 just silence? on the show. I hope not much longer. I was about to start reading an ad here if you wanted to. I have extensive notes on all these positions. I was excited for the show when we text about it last night.
Starting point is 00:17:24 I'm excited. I don't know. Feels like we got a weird energy today. I don't know what it's about. Not for me. Roger E says, Bo coming out swinging on a Monday. I'm not swinging.
Starting point is 00:17:37 Just having a conversation. All right. You want to talk about coming out swinging. And everybody, like, put your helmets on because there's about to be a lot of shrapnel. Because Zach is about to just tear somebody to pieces. And it is the only former first round pick in NFL history who Zach despises. And that is Devante Parker. Do not despise him.
Starting point is 00:17:57 Zach, you and I both do not have Devante Parker on our rosters. I wanted to just for the conversation. Yeah. But in the end, I actually don't, I think that he's on the outside looking. I don't even know that I think he's on the outside looking at. Let's talk about this as a wide receiver. You've got A.J. Brown and Devante Smith, obviously, on the roster. And then, you know, five guys really competing for probably four spots between Paris Campbell,
Starting point is 00:18:22 Devante Parker, Ania Smith, Johnny Wilson, and Britton Covey. There are other players at the bottom of the roster, Shaquan Davis, Jacob Harris, Austin, Watkins, Joseph and Gata among them. But I think those guys are pretty far long shots. To me, I think Ania Smith is probably the safe. because he was the earliest draft pick, but that may not be the case. And Paris Campbell, they gave him a little bit more money than they did. There's no guaranteed money for the Eagles with Devante Parker.
Starting point is 00:18:52 And I think it's more Devante Parker against Johnny Wilson. Exactly. And Paris Campbell is basically, can he make it through camp healthy? And then I do, you and I talked about last week, I do believe that Covey is like 60 turkeys on right now just because he was such a reliable punt returner. last year. I think there's a case that like if Devante Parker comes in and looks really good, I think he will be on the team. You could, I might argue that right now, Devante Parker is the third best receiver on the roster today. But I think as you, as you look at like how they're going to utilize these guys, I'm not, I'm right now I have him just off.
Starting point is 00:19:26 Yeah, that's really good analysis there because I, it's the way I would explain it. I'm not convinced Johnny Wilson makes the 53, but I don't think it's going to be Parker and Wilson on the 53. I think Eagles are going to have that big bodied backup wide receiver that they did not have last year. And if they did not draft Johnny Wilson, I would have had Devante Parker making the team. Really? Yes. The fact that they drafted. But you would have had them then going 0 and 17.
Starting point is 00:19:54 No. I have nothing against Devante Parker. We've got two months of history of proof. I'm sorry if I don't praise every signing and think every signing is the greatest signing in the world. They signed him. I was underwhelmed by the signing. That's all that was... You said they should fold the franchise, I believe.
Starting point is 00:20:10 The root of this conversation is that I was like, yeah, I mean, but then they didn't guarantee any money. So that shows you, it's not a signing, like, but they didn't guarantee any money in the beginning. And you still hated the signing. But that, no, I didn't hate the signing. You hate the player. I hate the player. You hate the person. I hate the person.
Starting point is 00:20:30 I just didn't think when they signed him, I was like, hold up. This guy's not guaranteed to make the roster, okay? They guaranteed more to Davis Price. No, no, no, no. You're retconning this. You said, you came on here. Eyes, a fire. No.
Starting point is 00:20:45 Like, this is, Howie Roseman maybe should be fired for this signing. This guy brings nothing to the table. I think that let the city burn. I definitely did not say that. We would never want the city to burn. I think it would be a major mistake if Halle Rosen was fired. So, no, do not think anything of that.
Starting point is 00:21:02 Well, it depends on. They replace him with. It depends. So I disagree with that. Anyways, I think Smith, Anaya Smith, makes the team. And Paris Campbell, he needs to prove that he can stay healthy, like you said. So he's not guaranteed a spot, but I'm expecting Campbell to make it. I think Campbell is the veteran more so than Parker.
Starting point is 00:21:24 I think the Eagles do want that big body backup wide receiver. At this point, I'm making a Johnny Wilson. A sixth round pick is certainly by no means guaranteed a roster spot, but I'm giving Wilson the edge over Parker. Covey is still a question mark at this point. I, for the reasons you mentioned last week, I think he will be on the team. He's a proven punt returner.
Starting point is 00:21:47 The Eagles have different options for kick returner for backup punt returner, but I'm still going with Covey in this spot. I also think Covey can contribute as a potential slot receiver for them as well. Certainly not why he would make the 53, but he would kind of be a, you know, a potential option there. I think given Ania Smith and Paris Campbell, that that's probably not his role, but. Yeah, it's primarily punt returner. I just look at it this way.
Starting point is 00:22:15 I don't think after the year Covey had last year, the Eagles are going to be able to do what they did the past two seasons, which was cut him and have them on practice squad and elevate him to the 53. So if you want him on the team, you're going to have to keep him on the 53. and I think Covey did enough last year to earn that spot. And even though they do have intriguing punt return possibilities, be it Will Shipley, be it Cooper DeGine, be it Ania Smith, be it Paris Campbell. I still think what Covey showed in the punt return game in particular, not saying he'll return kickoffs, but the punt return game in particular gives him the edge there. I mean, the Paris Campbell thing is interesting.
Starting point is 00:22:57 He's played five seasons in the league and has only, topped 200 yards receiving once. Yes. And that was two years ago, and it was the only time he stayed healthy. He has had real trouble staying healthy. I mean, Devante Parker, you know, he's been playing in the league. Now, this goes to your Julio Jones fascination and thinking that that guy should have been on the field on every play.
Starting point is 00:23:17 But Devante Parker has a much better track record than Paris Campbell as a starting receiver, not just a bit player. I don't know. And that's why I say I think that he is the third best receiver on the roster today. I just think as they're building the roster, as long as the top two guys make it through Camp Healthy, that they can focus a little bit more on the depth to develop. Yeah, I would agree with that.
Starting point is 00:23:40 And, yeah, I think Campbell's health is a big variable here. And that's why you can't put him in ink for the 53. So there's only three guys here who I would say are definitely on the 53. And you said this before I was listening. And even though I'm not even sure I would say, Nia Smith is definitely on the roster. It would really surprise me if they moved on from him. I think the last fifth round pick they did not keep on the 53 was Nate Gary, interestingly enough.
Starting point is 00:24:05 And then they ended up bringing him back. Right. But yeah, I think if Johnny Wilson outplays him and, you know, Paris Campbell looks great. I don't know. I think it's possible. Sure. Yeah. That's fair.
Starting point is 00:24:16 Okay. I mean, he's a guy who they're betting on the tape over the time speed, right? He did not run super fast. And if he gets to camp and doesn't look like he has real juice, then, you know, they're not wedded to him. that's part of the case for taking volume on day three, right? Yeah, and especially two wide receivers. You're right. Yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Let's do tight end, and then we'll talk ads. Okay. You think that they may add a player here, and we've both got the same three, Dallas Goddard, C.J. Uzoma, and Grand Cocatera. That means that McAllen Castle's E.J. Jenkins, Albert Oku, Egbenam, and Noah Tangi are left on the cutting room floor. I feel like the ad that they would have made was C.J.
Starting point is 00:24:58 Usama. Sure. I'm not so sure that they're going to add somebody else, but I don't know. Do you think there's a case to go four here? No. I mean, there's spots where I would go heavier than tight end. I would imagine Calcutera and I'm just sorry, I would imagine Calcutara and Albert O are competing for the same spot, right?
Starting point is 00:25:19 I don't think they're going to keep four. CJ Usama, if he's not healthy or if he just doesn't return in good health, then And that's where you question whether he makes the team. The thing is they brought him in to be that Jack Stole replacement in the blocking game. And they don't really have another tight end. If he gets hurt, then you probably do need to sign a blocking capable tight end. Exactly. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:41 Yeah, they don't have someone else like that in 12 personnel. I just think this is a spot where you're kind of scanning where you because look, next year we talked about this. We don't know if Goddard's going to be on the roster in 2025. We don't, I mean, I can't imagine Yzuma is going to be on the roster in 2020. 2025. Calcutera, it's going in the year three now, but hasn't really done enough in his career. If there's someone who comes up in the trade market, who you think could be a good number two tight end and eventually take over, then I certainly wouldn't put it past Howie. How many catches do you think Grant Calcutera had last year? I should know this. I cover the team, but I don't know. Eight. Four. Four.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Isn't that crazy? Doesn't I feel like? Yeah, I guess I was conflating all the catches I saw him having. you know, the summer and the spring. I'm kidding. All four of them during practice. Yeah. Yeah, that is crazy. Kind of crazy. I mean, Dallas Goddard missed time.
Starting point is 00:26:38 And Kakatera still only had four catches for 39 yards. Yeah, well, Kakatera was out. I'm sorry, when Goddard was out, they just didn't use their tight ends. Right. Yeah. Are you surprised they didn't do more of the soft season at that spot? Minorally, I think it's probably an indication that, like, they didn't think the draft class was very good, that they didn't use one of those day three picks on a tight end.
Starting point is 00:26:57 I'm a, I think it is, it is probably the most combustible position just based on like Dallas Goddard has a very extensive injury history, especially recently. So does C.J. Usoma. Like there's, this is the one place where they're, they really could get, get waylaid. Get what? Waylaid. What's waylaid? Should I know that word? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:27:23 I mean, depends on if. Depends on what? English is your vocation. English is my vocation. Waylaid. Okay. I did not know that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:27:34 How do you spell it? W-A-Y-L-A-I-D. Way-L-A-D. Okay. I try to learn many things to do every day. I learned way-laid today. Yeah. Get that to my next article.
Starting point is 00:27:45 Way-Lade. It's like how was your weekend, Zach? I got way-laid. All right, let's talk about the ads for a second. Let's talk about Bet Parks, our friends. at Bet Parks who are watching this show and wondering what is going on. What are they spending their money on? Well, it's a beautiful ladder to read like this because Bet Parks is where you can get in the zone on the Bet Park's sports book app.
Starting point is 00:28:11 The money is in the moments watching some of those playoff basketball games over the weekend. Some fun stuff going on. It continues. Who's playing tonight, Zach? Are the Knicks Pacers back at it? Next Pacers, yep. Back at the garden. You know, that game's going to be close.
Starting point is 00:28:26 Who you're going to bet on? well find out no that game's tomorrow i'm sorry tomorrow at p.m. god damn it but you can still bet on it tomorrow great thing about bed act that parks app is it's on today and tomorrow double down yeah exactly win your first ten dollar bet and earn a hundred and twenty five dollars in sports bonus bets you play for fun you love to win you bet download the app and play along with us must be 21 or older please gamble responsibly if you or someone you know has a gambling problem and wants help call 1-800 gambler put some put some money this week on the pj championship on the bed park sports book yeah there you go there you go uh yesterday morning
Starting point is 00:29:06 7 30 a m take the kids to the grocery store we're getting uh we're we're getting flowers we're getting food for dinner we're having a fun time in the grocery store and i passed by the can't drink section and i see awa pop uh and i'm thinking that this is i want to tell my kids, this is the world's first functional soda with the classic soda taste and the benefits of plant-based fiber, prebiotics, and other botanical ingredients, the support gut health. Everyone has a soda story. When I was their age, yeah, I used to love going to the vending machine and getting a soda. Well, these days, you're very mindful of your health, so where are you going to turn for soda?
Starting point is 00:29:42 You're going to turn to Aoi Pop because Aoi Pop is a new kind of soda with only two to five grams of sugar and nine grams of fiber per can. It's available online and in almost 30,000 retailers nationwide, including, you know, the most recent launch at all Wawa stores. I mentioned 30,000 retailers nationwide. It's at my local grocery store. It was great to see. They had a lot of flavors.
Starting point is 00:30:01 If you go to Wawa, you're going to see Classic Group Beer and Strawberry Vanilla. Those are two of the most popular flavors. But there's other great flavors you can get elsewhere, and that's vintage cola, orange squeeze, classic grape, cream soda, cherry cola. There's so many.
Starting point is 00:30:15 They use the code P. PHLY 20 for 20% off your next Alipop order. The discount only applies to one-time orders, not to subscription orders. Allie Pop is... Sounds like Julia's cracking one right now. There you go, Julia. And which flavor do you have right there?
Starting point is 00:30:28 This is cherry cola, but it's a... It's polarizing. Some people hate it, but I love it. But you... She loves it. I trust Julia's taste. And Joya says cherry cola is the way to go. So you can get that.
Starting point is 00:30:39 You can go and use the code P-H-L-Y-20 for 20% off. It's sold online, drink olivepop.com or at Amazon. And available in almost 30,000 retailers nationwide, including Wawa, Target, Sprouts, Wagwin, Shop, Shop, shop right and go Puff. Super chat from Danilo, De Nio, Danilo, who says, Bo, as a Devante Parker guy,
Starting point is 00:31:01 how do you like his chances of making the 53 men roster? I think 45 turkeys on DeVante Parker making the roster. I feel like this is going to be a training camp bit. You're never going to let go off. It's already a bit. I have nothing against Devante Parker. I mean. I just didn't blow me away.
Starting point is 00:31:21 No, no, no. He was not an underwhelmed thing. It was a, you were, this was like, you found this as your one chance to be an attack dog on Avanti, on Devante Parker. No, let me explain what was happening. This was free agency. We're doing an emergency show for every player. So the show is hyper focused on, on the player, okay? I believe in being reasonable, but I can't just go on to a show and be like, eh, I'm ambivalent.
Starting point is 00:31:45 I got nothing to say. Why would anyone listen? Like, we're paid to have something to say. So what my, might tell the truth. What my commentary in that, yeah, my commentary at the time was basically that, yeah, this is an, this is not a signing that would exclaim me. I don't know if he's going to make the roster. He's had a fine career, but, you know, the Eagles aren't guaranteeing any money here. That was my analysis.
Starting point is 00:32:11 That is it. That is it. That is it. As Andy Reed's mustache says, Zee, B, as soon as you embrace a bit, bow will pivot. All right. So maybe I should just keep bringing up Devante Parker and then you'll say, Yeah, that's like a mailbag. Everyone does it.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Yeah, I mean, I thought it was aggressive that you brought in to the office the toilet paper with Devante Parker's face on it. But you do you. All right. Let's go. Next one. People are curious at the reunion of the baseball team. Yeah, what about it? Hadn't seen these guys in a long time.
Starting point is 00:32:46 Yeah. Hug or no hug. Well, so it was actually on the text thread before. Someone said, you know, ZB said on his podcast that he's not going to hug. And so I did the, you know, handshake hug combo for some, but then we had to do the thing where, you know, we all got called out on onto the field. And like, you know, it's like at the opening day or the All Star game where you have to like greet every single person there, you know, all the all the players. You go down the line. Yeah, you go down the line.
Starting point is 00:33:17 And I was like, that was the first one out from our team. Okay. So I didn't know if I'd do a handshake for everyone or just a fist pound for everyone. So I did the handshake to the coaches, like the current coaches and the fist pound to the players and made it. It expedited the process. You didn't want to hold it up. You had to do that to the current players. Well, yes.
Starting point is 00:33:34 That's what happened. That's interesting. Yeah. What, I mean, no offense to you guys. But like, how uninteresting is that to the players? Like they got to stand out there and like fist pounded all these guys who were 20 years older than them. I mean, respect. We went 32 and two.
Starting point is 00:33:47 We won the state championship. They don't care about that. What does that matter to them? If you're at, you know, if you're a Wick Forest and the, well, I would say, Week Forest hasn't won any national championships recently. But if you're at Syracuse. Shot fired at the field hockey dominance of the mid-2000s. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:05 You're Syracuse basketball and the 2003 team comes back, okay? Get off the road. The 2003 team comes back. Yeah, they're going to be introduced. You're going to. So, no, you shake the hands. just saying it's like there's like a lot of kids on a baseball team and they all they just sit there as all these old guys come there looking for pounds yeah there there were a lot of players and
Starting point is 00:34:31 but no it's nice being back nice for you guys yeah but i just mean the the the pomp of i think they wanted to get the game on that's what i mean yeah like what are they waiting for and look poor st jo's preps on the other sideline there that's what it is it's about icen em yeah poor st jo's prep's probably won the game uh yeah okay yeah that's good my team yeah um but no it was uh it was it was it was cool seeing them and talking, yeah, talking sports. All right. Let's talk about offensive line, the last spot that we have on the offense. And this is, I believe, the only place on the offense where we do have a difference.
Starting point is 00:35:05 And I'm not so sure that I believe in this strongly, but my case here is that given Mackay Beckton's presence, I'm not so sure that Fred Johnson's spot on the roster is securely guaranteed. You've got the starting five that we agree on, presuming Tyler. Christine at right guard. We've both got Mackay Beckton. We both got Matt Hennessy. We both got Trevor Keegan.
Starting point is 00:35:26 I think Dylan McMahon is on the roster fringe. Like for me, he's there. But I think there's a chance that he doesn't make the team. And then I'm going, I'm rolling, rolling the dice here with the undrafted free agent from Howard. Anim Danqua, taking my last spot over Fred Johnson. Now, the Eagles liked Fred Johnson enough last year to make him. Sure. The primary backup at left tackle and sign him to that extension.
Starting point is 00:35:50 however, and he has bounced around the league for a while. I don't think that he is necessarily guaranteed a roster spot, especially if Mackay Beckton can stay healthy, and if Tyler Steen has the tackle versatility, it's not a, I would say Fred Johnson is more likely than not to make the roster right now, but I'm just, I'm going with one little roll of the dice here. That's a good roll of the dice because I was considering Dankwa. And I put Fred Johnson on almost by default, right?
Starting point is 00:36:20 I think he's an NFL player. You want to go deeper here. Quick on Dankwa, because I do think they're intrigued by him. I wonder how much they're going to show in the preseason if they're going to try to sneak him to practice squad, or if it's the type of thing where he's on the field and show some promise and you're like, you can't expose this guy, right? Because there are rare physical tools to develop there.
Starting point is 00:36:44 But ultimately, I have Dankwa on the practice squad in year one. Teams had seven rounds to draft him. They didn't draft him. Also not making it guys who are on the roster got Levi Edjee, the other undrafted free agent of note, Jason Poe, Darren Kinnard, and Brett Tooth.
Starting point is 00:37:01 Yeah. So look, I think Beckton, well, Beckton's going to make the team. He's going to be the top swing tackle, okay? If he stays healthy. If he stays healthy. Fred Johnson, yeah, I think he played his way onto the roster of the roster spot.
Starting point is 00:37:16 He does have a little more versatility in his career than Beckton has. shown right you can play my guard can you play fred johnson a guard could you could you know okay um we'll see uh hennessee's gonna be on the team he was he was signed to be the top guy there i think kegan is a fifth round pick is going to be on the team and then mick yeah i think McMahon's a fringe guy but the center guard versatility uh he's certainly not guaranteed a raster spot the eagles have gone lighter in the past at o line but i would think that this year given that they're trying to figure out their right guard spot
Starting point is 00:37:51 given that they have some older player, well they have Lane Johnson, but they have some unknown there. They're going to want to go deep. They lost a few of their O-line stalwarts this past year and Jack Dresscoe is a four-year player. Sue L. Pettos,
Starting point is 00:38:07 what, a six-year player for them? So, yeah, you're going to kind of want to replenish your depth and that's where I have them keeping Hennessy and Keegan, or I'm sorry, Keegan and McMahon for that reason. The only very minor disagreement I would have there is that I don't think that Matt Hennessy is guaranteed a roster spot.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Interesting. You know, even with health because they drafted two guys. Good point. He can't play outside. And so if it comes down to like Fred Johnson or Matt Hennessy and Matt Hennessy is not going to be a starter and, you know, they don't they don't love what they've seen with him and they like the young guys on the interior and maybe they go for the tackle backup instead. Fair point.
Starting point is 00:38:41 And there's not a lot of guaranteed money in that deal. So just a thing to throw out there. All right. That is, we both agreed 25 players on offense. It's special teams. You know who it is. It's Jake Elliott, Rick Levato, and Braddon Mann. So let's go to the defensive side of the ball now on the edge.
Starting point is 00:38:56 Now, both of us have listed Zach Bonn at linebacker, not at edge because of the way that Vic Fangio talked about him the other day. He's sort of of this group too. But otherwise, we agree on the five. And that is Bryce Huff, Josh Sweat, Nolan Smith, Brandon Graham, and Jalick's Hunt. That means no Tehran Jackson, no Patrick Johnson, no Terrell Lewis, no Julian O'Quara. Yes. If I can just rewind real quick, just on the roundup Fred Johnson. Fred Johnson has started games in the NFL, left tackle, left guard, and right tackle.
Starting point is 00:39:28 So he's played guard in the league, whereas Beckton hasn't. That's the one thing I was pointing out. Yeah, so two edge rushers, to the edge rushers here. Yeah, I mean, I consider Bonn a part of this group. Bond's going to flex between inside and outside. So that's why I have them going a little lighter here. Patrick Johnson's continued to earn playing time with, or I'm sorry, continue to earn a roster spot.
Starting point is 00:39:54 Played a lot two years ago, didn't play as much as this past year. So he was my first guy off here. But I think given that Zach Bond can rush from the edge, they can utilize that spot that way. This group, I don't know if this group is better than it was a year ago, certainly. I mean, Hassan Reddick's a major loss. Bryce Huff, it's not a one-for-one swap.
Starting point is 00:40:14 The Eagles are hoping that with more. playing time. He can blossom. Josh Sweat needs to return to the form from the beginning of last year, the previous season. Nolan Smith needs to take a big jump in year two. I don't expect J. Alex Hunt that play a big role in defense this season. So there are question marks here, but I think
Starting point is 00:40:34 at this stage, I'm not expecting them to keep Patrick Johnson. The players, I am intrigued, though, to see Julian O'Quara and Terrell Lewis this offseason. Yeah, we talked about those guys. Over the course of the past couple months, Acquara has some history of some sack production, but I think given the makeup of the group,
Starting point is 00:40:54 it's hard to imagine them getting an extra guy there, especially if you consider Bond to be nominally part of that group. Defensive tackle, you have six here, I have five. You are rolling the dice with the undrafted guy from Baylor, Gabe Hall, after the top five of Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Milton Williams, Morrow Ojamo, and Marlon Tuipaloo. Also in the mix there is PJ Mo. Mustafa and Thomas Booker.
Starting point is 00:41:18 The one thing I would say is, now they don't really, like, Marlon Tuopilu is the only guy who has that, like, nose tackle body type behind Jordan Davis. Now, Mustafa could do it. And that is what he brings to the table. I don't know that, like, I like Marlon Tuipoltu, but I don't think that his spot is necessarily secured. But this is a place where I do think that if they're going to add a guy in July,
Starting point is 00:41:44 just like somebody who's available, this is a place where they could do it. Well said. Agree with you there. I think backup knows is a position to watch. At this point, it's between Marlon Tu Politu and PJ Mustafa. I went Marlon T. If you told me PJ,
Starting point is 00:42:00 that's fine. I mean, Marlon T's been here now going into year four. So, yeah, I do think that's a spot they can upgrade. Gabe Hall, I wanted to take a shot on an undrafted rookie at some point here.
Starting point is 00:42:13 You went Danqua. I think Hall, given where they are at detackle, given the importance of having depth at that spot. I like the body type. I like the college, you know, the proven play in college. For those who have missed the Gabe Hall conversation,
Starting point is 00:42:31 body type is this is a slashing body type. This is an undersized defensive tackle who is a pass rusher by trade, not a guy who's going to be in the nose tackle conversation. Exactly. Well said. And you also, the Eagles are always thinking kind of ahead and Milton Williams is entering the last year of his deal. So as a potential Milton Williams replacement,
Starting point is 00:42:50 not to say that Gabe Hall can be Milton Williams, but in terms of like what the role would be, you're looking at a 6-8, 280-pound long-armed. Probably, you know, he's playing D-N in a 3-4 type situation, right? So he's that type of defensive lineman. Yeah, I'm intrigued by him. If you kept him off the 53, I wouldn't be pounding the table to keep him off.
Starting point is 00:43:14 on literally haven't seen them practice with Eagles yet other than a rookie mini-camp stretching. So this is one of those just kind of putting the numbers together when I do the 53s. And we should say, by the way, as we do this exercise, fourth time champion, three-time champion? Who can count? Nobody can count that high. Okay. Bo is adept of picking the 53-man roster. Now that said, he's adept at depth of picking it after astutely watching practice.
Starting point is 00:43:41 So astutely. For the summer and the preseason games. So this is a little early for that. But I bring that up as a way of saying when I do my 53, I always lean heavier on the heavier players. Like I always go with the O-Lyme and D-Line. I'm never light there. And the times that I've lost the competition,
Starting point is 00:43:58 so I guess every year is typically because I have them keeping someone more, I have them keeping someone extra at O-Line or D-Line. Last year, I think they only kept eight on the initial 53 on O-Line. Is that right? Steen, Fred Johnson, Suea, and Drescoe, so it was nine. Okay. Yeah, so I usually have them going deeper on the lines of scrimmage, and so I have them keeping Gabe Hall here.
Starting point is 00:44:22 Do you, we've talked about this several times, but the clock is ticking. Do you think we're going to get a Milton Williams extension? I don't understand why Milton Williams would do that, right? Yeah, I mean, I think if I'm not Williams, I would rather hit the open market and go to a place where you're one of the top two guys. Yeah. I just, this is,
Starting point is 00:44:44 it's on my radar like this could turn into like a TJ Edwards thing. Like why didn't why didn't they just resign him? Now maybe you're right. Milton Williams is maybe just not interested or he wants this year of getting to be a full-time starter or close to that. But he's 25 years old. He's been pretty good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:00 I think there's every expectation that he's going to get even better. I would be very interested in signing him. They don't typically let good players out of the building. Young, homegrown good players, I should say. There you go. All right. Let's talk about our friends at Mortgage CS. It may be news to you, listener, viewer.

Starting point is 00:48:18 We both have five guys, but we have a difference here. And we both have Nicobi Dean, Devin White, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Zach Bonn. You're going Orrin Borks. I'm going Ben Van Sumeran. I don't feel super strongly about it, just for conversation purposes here. Now, that means that Brandon Smith is the only guy who does not make this roster of the people currently on the 90-man roster. but Oren Berks is a veteran.
Starting point is 00:48:42 He's been around. He's a better player right now than Ben Van Sumer is. But if you're talking about depth, you maybe take the upside on the guy who has a young, controllable contract. Well said. And to add to Bo's point, if you watch us every day,
Starting point is 00:48:56 you probably know this. But for our new listeners, we should always tell you, if you're on the 53-man roster week one and you're a vested veteran, your contract's guaranteed. So someone like Ben Van Sumer would be more appealing on the initial
Starting point is 00:49:08 53 then Orrin Berks because then you guarantee Warren Berks's contract whereas Van Sumer and you have that flexibility which is and it's not a serious significant contract for Berks and it's only it's 500,000 guaranteed according to over the cap but yeah it's something the Eagles consider I went Orrin Berks because
Starting point is 00:49:25 I think given the uncertainty at the position having someone who it's a little more established he can play special teams he's proven he can play defense they go there I do know the Eagles were impressed by what they saw about or from Ben Van Van Sumer last year. They elevated him from the practice squad and they signed him to the 53 man roster, so he'll be in the mix. I think that the big point here is that Eagles have reshaped their
Starting point is 00:49:49 linebacker core. No, Kobe Dean is back, but, you know, so you have Van Sumer, and I don't. I have four new linebackers in that group. You have three new linebackers in the group. That is a big roster overhaul, Devin White, like we said there. You know, you have Jeremiah Trotter Jr., like we said there. So that position... You think roster continuity matters less when you have a new coordinator? Yes, I do. Yeah, it matters much less because these guys, they're learning a new scheme, there's new position coaches, right?
Starting point is 00:50:19 There's probably less affinity for what the guys have done, certainly from the coaching staff. Now, the front office might have that. But, yeah, I mean, there's a reason they were deliberate in bringing in Devin White. Now, that's not to say Devin White was their top guy. They were deliberate and bringing in Orrin Berks. I would imagine, especially a linebacker, Vic Fangio is telling what he wants there. Right. And then the other thing to note too, and we mentioned this with edge rushers, is Zach Bond's a part of this group as well.
Starting point is 00:50:45 So if they went with four here, because Zach Bond's part of this group, then that will be understandable. Yeah, that would be a little risky. I don't know, you know, I know, I know, Fanji said it. I don't know that Zach Bond can really be trusted to play off ball linebacker on defense, but something to track. All right, corner, which is, I would say, like the deepest spot on the roster. and if I were to guess a position they're going to trade from, if there's like a player for player trade to be made during either the lead-up to training camp
Starting point is 00:51:15 or during training camp, where you're just looking to add numbers elsewhere. Corner seems like the right place for that. But we actually have the same six here, and it's interesting because there are a lot of tough decisions here. Darius, like Quignan-Mitchell-R-Degin, Kili-Ringo, those guys are set. Those are four obvious ones.
Starting point is 00:51:33 Now, we both have Avanti-Matics making the team. I think that is very much up for debate and may not happen. And we both have Eli Ricks as the sixth guy. That means no James Bradbury, no Mario Goodrich, no Tyler Hall, no Josh Job, no Zach McPherson, and no Isaiah Rogers. And I know that there's a lot of excitement about Isaiah Rogers. I think you could make a good case for him to make this roster. I actually kind of think that like Eli Ricks to me is maybe the most likely guy to get traded.
Starting point is 00:51:58 Yeah, because teams looking for like a young dice roll and he's just, he's now down the depth chart. You can sell that as a reason you're trading him because we drafted two guys at the top. We like this player, but we just can't. He's not a good fit here. Maybe you can get something for him. But for now, I have him over Isaiah Rogers.
Starting point is 00:52:19 Isaiah Rogers has been out of football for a year. There's no, and I think we probably overstate how good he was with the Colts. He's a worthwhile player to have in camp. We'll see how he does, but I don't necessarily think that he's guaranteed by it. I think, as you don't obviously. Yeah, Isaiah Rogers was my first cut.
Starting point is 00:52:36 And again, this could change. You mean your last cut? My last cut. Sorry. Devante Parker was your first cut. My first, my, he's the guy I would have on the roster. He was the hardest cut. Got it.
Starting point is 00:52:47 It was the last guy off. So thank you. So. First cut is the deepest. Yeah. So he's the first man up. He's the next man up. Isaiah Rogers, yeah, I need to see him.
Starting point is 00:52:59 He hasn't played football in a year. I mean, there's certainly intriguing things there. There's two kind of quick, quick headlines where I guess three headlines to what my six were. The first being, yeah, they added a first and second round pick. That changes the composition at cornerback. If they don't take Cooper to Gina in round two, Isaiah Rogers is on my 53, right? The fact that you take a first round corner and a second round corner, that changes the numbers in a huge way. The second thing is James Bradbury is not on this list, of course.
Starting point is 00:53:30 Neither one of us expects him to be on the team. there's no financial benefit for the Eagles to do this now. But I thought you made a great point at the beginning of last week when we did the depth charts, which was every snap James Bradbury takes during the summer is a snap that's not going to Cooper to Gene, the Keely Ringo, De Quineon Mitchell,
Starting point is 00:53:50 Eli Rex, you go on down the list, right? They have young corners that you're going to want to get some work in camp. So the only reason I think to bring Bradbury to camp will be as if Bradbury has a reason to make the roster. or if you're kind of waiting it out and trading him. I like James Bradbury as a player. I like James Bradbury as a person.
Starting point is 00:54:09 But I think the way last year went, it's hard to trust James Bradbury to be a starting corner. And I don't bring James Bradbury on my 53 if he's not the starting corner. If things worked out differently, if corner did not go as they expected in the draft, if they had to wait until round three or something like that, you can make more of an argument. Especially when you have Mitchell and especially when you have the gene,
Starting point is 00:54:29 I don't see them keeping Bradbury. And then the third point I wanted to make, and this goes into the Isaiah Rogers, this goes into Avanti Maddox, is that they need guys who can play the slot. I don't know yet about Rogers in the slot. I would think right now of these guys I have, the Gene and Maddox are the slot guys.
Starting point is 00:54:48 Ricks played in there last year. That's probably not where you want to use him. So that's kind of why I give Maddox the roster spot here and why I give the Gene a roster spot here. Well, speaking of that, Tyler Hall has a guy that we don't talk about. Yeah. I mean, Tyler Hall has just as much of a, of a, like, a fine track record of NFL experience
Starting point is 00:55:04 and as a young player as Isaiah Rogers does. Sure. You know, Isaiah Rogers started nine games for the Colts in 22. Tyler Hall has been a slot player and has started a few games here and there, but he's been on the field just as much. I think he is a guy who people are maybe sleeping on a little bit as a chance to make this team. Well, said. You know, they targeted him.
Starting point is 00:55:20 They actually were interested. I think they were interested in signing him off of the practice squad at one point when he was with the Raiders. So good point. And then I saw in the chat, should also mention this. This is part of reason why I kept Maddox is you'll see in our next position I went light on safety. So I think you're going to want some cornerback safety crossover. And Maddox and the gene are two guys who can play safety. Well, that's my other question for you. We've talked about this. Is there any chance that the
Starting point is 00:55:49 Eagles approached James Bradbury about a potential position switch? If you want to make this roster, would you like to try to make it work at safety? Sure. Why not? Now, I mean, I don't know if you can just go from corner to safety, but he struggled in the slot last year. But it's been done. I mean, we've seen some of the top safeties are former corners. So, yeah, if he wants to have that conversation,
Starting point is 00:56:16 my guess is Bradbury would probably want to go to a place where he can start a corner. But, yeah, it's worth having that conversation. Do you think Maddox will be a safety this year? No. Okay. The question with Avanti, as always can his body hold up I think it's probably less likely to happen on safety
Starting point is 00:56:36 He's certainly not guaranteed of a roster spot here And I think there's a he's like right on the bubble I think but for now. I think he's here as the as the slot backup as and as we've talked about like They've released him so they were fine moving on in a world without him. So there are no guarantees But for now I have him back. Okay, all right Last one at safety and we have one difference here. This is where you you carried Gabe Hall on I only carried five defensive tackles. I took another dice roll here. And I have Mackay Garner making the team
Starting point is 00:57:07 as the fourth safety behind C.J. Garner Johnson, Reed Blankenship at Sydney Brown. You just have those three. I kind of like Mackay Garner. Okay. And he was like dipping his toe in the position last year after not making the roster as a corner. He's a bit of a bigger body type.
Starting point is 00:57:26 I'm just, I mean, this is a total dart throw. But the other guys on the roster, Tristan McCollum, Andre Sam, the undrafted guy from LSU. I think Mackay Garner has like, you look for a guy who can maybe make a year one to year or two jump. You're in like body development at a new position. The eagle still list him as a corner,
Starting point is 00:57:45 but I would think that he is here to compete at safety. Good points. And look, three for me. Good ball skills on him. Yeah. Three is especially light when one of those guys, Sidney Brown, is coming off a season ending injury. So my three is taking an individual.
Starting point is 00:58:01 into account that Avanti Maddox and Cooper the Gene could theoretically play safety for you. But going into the season, you might want more depth there. Of the depth, yeah, Garner, I guess there's, there's, he did show good ball skills last year in camp, making that conversion. Tristan McCollum, who they liked last year, they got him onto the field on defense a bit.
Starting point is 00:58:25 Then Andre Sam can help on special teams, an older player, but played at LSU last year. this is a spot where I would potentially see them adding. Now, I know people ask about Justin Simmons. I wouldn't see them adding atop of the depth chart player, right? We're expecting Garner Johnson, Blankenship and Brown to be the top three safety. So you're looking more for someone who is a depth piece, can help on special teams. So looking at the guys who are still on the street,
Starting point is 00:58:53 quandary digs would not fit that category, right? He's a guy who wouldn't expect to come in and start. J-Ron Curse from the Cowboys, potentially. Michael Hyde is a little bit too old. Eddie Jackson, same sort of deal. Ryan Neal, former Eagle. 29 years old. Could maybe make some sense there. Rudy Ford, of course, part of Halle Roseman's best trade of all time.
Starting point is 00:59:13 Tracy Walker, Jamal Adams, John Johnson, your boy, DeAndre Houston, Carson, Terrell Edmonds coming back. Marcus May and Keanu Neal. So there's actually, there aren't guys there. Even Grayland Arnold, another former Eagle. Sure. And speaking of Grayland Arnold, the Eagles could do that. What they did with Josiah Scott in training camp two years ago, which is take one of these death corners and try to play them at safety.
Starting point is 00:59:37 Try to see if you can make the team at safety. Yeah, and I'm looking at those guys. That's why I think Mackay Garner is that guy. Because Tyler Hall, probably too small. Isaiah Rogers doesn't fit the bill. Maybe Zach McPherson. Maybe that's a place for him to compete. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:59:56 Interesting. All right. What else did you learn about this exercise? Oh, yeah, then special teams, we have the same three specialists making the team. Yeah, I said that at the end of the offense. Okay. Sorry, I was prepared for you. Okay.
Starting point is 01:00:07 I'll watch the show back and I'll be my notes of what I should have done better. Yeah, so this exercise showed, I think that they have a good roster, that that cornerback is going to be a hotly contested spot, wide receiver. There are spots open, but they've certainly changed that up there. Yeah, I think those are the two positions. to be most excited about watching depth-wise entering camp. I think tight end, defensive tackle, and safety are the three spots that I would look for external upgrades. Cool.
Starting point is 01:00:40 Brought him back, do you think maybe or no? They got Davis Price. They got Lou Nichols. Yeah. We're going to have a little friendly Davis Price for a little Nichols competition, which is because I actually think this is emblematic of certain players that we look for. I have this guy with draft pedigree who played at LSU. all right and you're going with your boy Lou I'm not going with him I'm just I'm curious about I don't need to see Tyrion Davis price I'm curious about Davis price I think this is
Starting point is 01:01:09 Trey sermon 2.0 great I think this do you think the Eagles regret letting go of Trey sermon last year no you don't no real you think if they had to do it over again they wouldn't have kept Trey sermon over for shot penny I don't think they care I don't know. I don't know. I think they might. I think that's one where they look back and I say, yeah. You think that's why? I think that's why they collapsed on the stretch. I only that was the reason. I don't think that's why they collapsed down the stretch, but I do think they should have kept Trace Kerman. I don't think Howie's thinking about that one too much. He's too busy pounding his chest over the Rudy Ford, Bruce Hector trade. Well, Howie should always be reflecting on what he could have and should have done better.
Starting point is 01:01:54 Yeah. I mean, you're right that Rashad Penny did not end up bringing anything to the table, but that's okay. All right, back tomorrow at noon. We're going to be talking schedule, predictions, maybe some fun stuff that we maybe expect to come out when the schedule comes out Wednesday. Prime Time show Wednesday night.
