Jamie Lynch to his left, Fran Duffy to his left,
Starting point is 00:00:34 and we are here to talk about a wild season opener for the Philadelphia Eagles, despite a sluggish start, despite losing the turnover battle, three to one. They come away with a 34-29 victory in Sao Paulo. Vinicurry, your initial reaction, give me one word.
Starting point is 00:00:53 Seque, let's six foot 26. Sequin Barclay, 24 carries for 190. yards and two catches for two for 23 yards three touchdowns in his eagles debut james can you remember a better eagle's debut for a player than that everyone pray for john mara tonight he's perfectly fine he's a very wealthy man but he is an absolute hell right now watching saquan barclay make that uh debut with i mean he said on the on the hard knock he said it was going to make him sick i mean he's
Starting point is 00:01:25 vomiting i made his hug in the toilet right now uh fran I guess we can start with. But your general takeaway from what you saw, aside from a sluggish start, the offense eventually taking over in this game. Yeah, I mean, what you saw was four or five straight drives where they were able to put points on the scoreboard.
Starting point is 00:01:46 And a big part of that was Seyquan Barclay, his ability not just on the ground, but through the air. I think the big thing that we've talked about is that the Eagles have a high floor rushing attack. That offensive line, the schemes that they use up front, you know what to expect from that run game, but you're hoping that Seekwan
Starting point is 00:02:01 Barclay can take that to new heights. That's what we saw here tonight. He was able to put the offense on his back for the majority of this football game. All right. We got a lot to get to. We're going to hopefully hear from Nick Siriani in a little bit. We're going to hear from Zach Berman live from Corinthian Stadium. We're going to talk about the good.
Starting point is 00:02:16 We're going to talk about the bad. But let's start from the beginning. This very sloppy start for the offense, consecutive turnovers, you know, a bad center exchange on the snap from Cam Juergens. And Vinny, you were saying it. It looked like these guys maybe. could have used some reps in the preseason. At least a series in preseason, man.
Starting point is 00:02:36 Oh, man. You see, I start sweating instantly. I'm like, damn, man. They got to get this together, man, you know. Especially, you know, on this debut, everybody's watching, you know. But once they was able to settle down, or you can hear it, say, wah!
Starting point is 00:02:52 And it's like you said, it's like you said, that first quarter was like that was their preseason game. Yeah, it was. It truly was. you know but once they started settling and then I think they got this thing under control but one thing about it man we just can't turn the ball over
Starting point is 00:03:10 but when you got that studded in the back field like that just keep giving it so yeah he said guanj is everything and it was weird that that last drive when we can talk about the decision that they made there to go with the tush push and then you get the fumble and then you kick the field goal but that was the one point when they weren't leaning on sequin they go empty
Starting point is 00:03:28 and they're you know they're Four plays in a row. Jamie, it's like you're yelling out. I literally tweeted from the show account. Like, all right, time to finish this off with Sequin. And then they go four plays in a row,
Starting point is 00:03:38 empty set. And I'm like, all right. And you started getting a little PTSD of last year and like the, you know, just tendencies to do things that weren't working. And luckily,
Starting point is 00:03:51 you know, they pulled through. And I think it's fair to say, like generally good news for the Eagles that they won this game despite everything that went wrong. and including the play of Jalen Hertz, which I think was a lot of interesting decision-making,
Starting point is 00:04:07 to say the least, friend. I mean, the two picks were tough. Those, especially that second one, in the red zone, it's third down. You don't make a, it's one of the cardinal sins of playing quarterback. You don't make a throw late in the middle of the field, especially in the short field in the red zone. You don't throw late across your body in that area of the field.
Starting point is 00:04:25 And the situation there is they're up five. They know a field goal is going to put them up eight. I mean, the field goal, the field goal definitely will put them up eight. Now, AJ Brown did slip on the play. We didn't see like when in the timing of the play that that happened just because of how the cameras were synced up. So I'm excited to see that on the film. I would say the big thing if you want to look at a bright spot and we don't have the exact numbers yet. But Jalen Hurts against the Blitz, there were a number of times in this game where he was able to make throws on to on in rhythm, on target against the blitz.
Starting point is 00:04:55 He made some plays with his legs against the blitz as well, the one on the final drive. So I think that's one of the big positives, I think, if you're looking at this offense and how they're going to evolve under Kellyn Moore, having the answers against pressure, that was a really good sign in the right direction. Jalen finishes 20 of 34 for 278 yards, two touchdowns and interception. He also had 13 carries for 33 yards, which not super great. He had one big first down fumble or first down scramble. When you talk about them doing better against the blitz, what jumped out to you in what they were doing differently? I mean, just the fact that the ball was coming out within rhythm, and there was an answer for him at the top of his drop when he felt that he was hot. So if there was the one that was the 20-yarder to A.J. Brown, that one stood out to me, right?
Starting point is 00:05:39 Where he's coming, he has a blitz coming on his front side, on his right side, and he feels that pressure. But when he hits the top of his drop, that ball's out to A.J. Brown away from the blitz over to the left side. There was another play as well where he had a rusher coming in his face right in front of him, and he knew, hey, my answer is to the flat here. and that went to the running back to his left. And so, again, just understanding last year,
Starting point is 00:06:02 he didn't have those options, those outlets were not available to him consistently against pressure and teams were consistently pushing those buttons in this game whenever Green Bay was able to dial the blitz. And again, we don't have the numbers yet, so I haven't seen those, but it seemed anecdotally while watching
Starting point is 00:06:15 that it worked in his favor. And to jump in on that, even from the mistakes to be down, only six points, they showed a lot of poise. You know, you didn't see nobody with, hanging their head down, you know, they leaned on each other. And, um, uh, just, just, as all our fans, you know, that was good to see. Because, you know, um, you know, once they put that fire out, you know, to get,
Starting point is 00:06:39 it was like, an extreme positive, though. Yeah. Yeah. I was at the trade. Yeah. And we were looking at people and we were like, this is like the best case scenario to be as bad as this has gone for, you know, seven, eight minutes of the game. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:50 And to only be down six or three or whatever it was at the time. I was like, damn, this is a good. scenario right now. Yeah, I mean, the defense was not perfect game. They give up three consecutive 70-yard touchdown drives, right? But those first two positions for them. They almost won the team the game. Right. Like they kept them in the game. That was an unbelievable performance. And then, you know, Nicobie, if he catches that pick six, yeah, that would have been a crazy, crazy, crazy play. 14 point swing. Oh, yeah, quick. What is, uh, in your experience, Vinny, just like week one, the nerves of not necessarily knowing like what's our team's identity like how good are we what
Starting point is 00:07:31 what does week one feel like um week one you just you just want to you know identify yourself you know as you know a ferocious defense you know at at the beginning of every training camp or every mini camp you know you put goals you set goals for you know the defense the offense what you want what you want to go into the league and what you want to jump out on film when the next opponent watches you for the next week, you know, what do you want them to say about you? That was the thing for us, man. And, you know, just for us, it was just running to the ball, you know, getting after the
Starting point is 00:08:07 quarterback and just having fun out there. Andy, we used to always say, let's your personality show. And that never left the building, you know, from the time, you know, I was drafted, always like your personality shows like we talked about yesterday. Yeah, and that's still there. You saw that in this game, right? after the Reed Blankenship Interception, they get that old dance on and the,
Starting point is 00:08:27 a little rich homie quine. It was almost like you could tell that at some point Slay had sort of walked Reed Blankenship through what he was going to have to do there. It was like he gave him sort of the steps for it. He's not going to just trust Reed. I see you, Slay. I see you.
Starting point is 00:08:47 The defense in general, along those lines of that, it's like you've got these guys who sometimes you haven't played with before. It's like you want to. know what they're about when a real game happens. And so a guy like Zach Bonn in this game, a guy who had to not played middle linebacker in the NFL was all over the place in this game and makes the the punctuation with the sack on Malik Willis on the end of game, Hill Mary.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Yeah, he was hitting people. He was flying around. Like, you just like to see that kind of activity from a linebacker, athletically speaking, coming downhill, stopping some runs, getting to the quarterback, doing okay and coverage. What do you have? Two sacks. 15 tackles, two sacks. 15 tackles.
Starting point is 00:09:24 15 tackles and the game. Yeah. And you see Gondert running over and doing him like all fired up. Yeah, I mean, you're burning out. As a guy like what? Arguably as good of an impression as Seguan. Yeah. And then honestly, we talked about it halftime, Beau, but Nicopi's performance as well.
Starting point is 00:09:43 Obviously, he had the drop pick six, but he blew up the running back on the screen play on third down. He was in position to have that pick six where he sniffed that out in the flat. He made numerous plays behind the line of scrimmage and some of those. gap scheme downhill runs, a really good debut from Nikobi Dean as well. Yeah, this is one where I think when you're looking at the defense as a whole, there were a lot of parts of this game when you're sort of scratching your head. Like that's not good. That looks familiar.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Lots of missed tackles. But in general, like the effort level, I thought was there. You talk about the guys rallying to the ball. I thought that was there. I think maybe you were hoping for a little bit more from the pass rush. Yeah, especially me. I definitely was hoping a little bit more. I was hoping to see a little bit more.
Starting point is 00:10:25 I think what we see, like, about maybe three stunts and did games inside. Yeah. I definitely was hoping to see a little bit more. You know, a couple of those guys, I really, you know, had high hopes for tonight's game, but I'm pretty sure they'll get it together. Bryce Huff, who you played with in New York, a quiet game for him. Right. Look like he was struggling with the footing.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Right. What's your, like, what would you tell people who have no idea, what it's like to figure out your cleats on the field. When the field is that nasty, man, put them studs on, man. I don't care how ugly the cleats look. Man, put them things on because people at home, you know, remember you're playing for, you know, the team, the name on the front and the name on the back.
Starting point is 00:11:08 They don't care what you got on. Put them studs on, man. And what kind of a difference does it make? Oh, a hell of a difference. Just like just your actual footing, like. Absolutely. I was having flashbacks to George Toma and the Super Bowl. The sod father came into my.
Starting point is 00:11:21 my side uh i believe i believe father in a brazilian is in portuguese is uh payo two two other two fields get like that um a green bay field get like that at night time and the old chicago bears uh oh that was the worst but that's right they said on the broadcast the packer sort of felt like because this field was a little bit like theirs they had maybe a bit of an advantage yep yep so i think early on they did and a j brown was one of the few guys that was just like making moves in the grass and not losing footing and I mean you want to talk about people that impressed again he's a beast he he's a freak he's the fastest kid alive he is phenomenal it's so nice to have the offensive weapons that they have on this team quickly before we get to seriani fran what did you think of his decision making there you've got
Starting point is 00:12:11 the chance to potentially punch it in for the win they're at about the one yard line you could give to say one and we're saying like you know give sake on the ball let's get the fourth for him or you can go on the the tush push it felt like they were almost too insistent on like let's make sure that we still have the tush push and they fumble it away and then you have a chance to potentially and say one recovers it by the same one recovers it very heads up play yeah and then there's also a chance after the the packers commit a penalty you could have gone back to it and tried to go for a score there what did you make of those decisions well the the big one was that final one and that's how i was interested to see after the packers had that penalty and you have the ball on
Starting point is 00:12:49 the one inch line are you going to go for it here if you don't get it, all right, well, now you have to trust your defense to stop them from going 55 yards in under 30 seconds to kick a game winning field goal. Or do you say, hey, we're going to kick the field goal, force them to kick a touchdown or to score a touchdown after the kick off and you get it on the 30 yard line. I think that the fact that they fumbled that push push, I think that that's what said, you know what? We've already seen, we've, we're taking victory from the jaws of defeat here. Let's just, let's just kick this thing and make our defense, make them drive the whole field. They got a long weekend, man. You know, a long play ride home to...
Starting point is 00:13:27 You know what you always hear about how bad the plane ride home is after a loss? I mean, if you're flying back from South Palo, what's that 12 hours? And your quarterback just got hurt. It's crazy because I... For them, that's going to be wild, but I'm just saying, for us, on a long plane ride, they usually break the film down right there on the plane and you try to get things corrected, man.
Starting point is 00:13:49 And they got a long weekend and they need to hell. up because what would they how many defensive plays did they play in the first half almost 50 something first half it was uh when we talked about in the third quarter was already 57 right at the end of the third yeah i have the number here it was uh the 42 plays in the first half yeah that was crazy 42 defensive snaps in the first half and we actually saw it was interesting um we weren't if we weren't here for the halftime show and we'll get to all these superchats we're looking forward to that um quignon mitchell impressive impressive impressive impressive impressive debut played exclusively on the outside, despite playing a lot in the slot in the summer. Instead,
Starting point is 00:14:27 it was Avanti Maddox in the slot. And we saw a little bit of a rotation up front, but not a ton. We actually saw, I thought, more rotation on the edge with Brandon Graham and Nolan Smith than we did with Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. What did you make of those edge rush guys, friend? I think, you know, one of the things we talked about at halftime, so often those guys were on the ground. And I don't know if that was a footing issue, trying to figure out, like, what were they going to do from their cleat standpoint? Or, you know, if that's just what the nature, if that's going to, that position is going to be. We saw some BG sliding up inside and then also playing out off the edge. We saw Nolan Smith.
Starting point is 00:15:00 We saw Huff. We saw all those guys rotate in and out. So I guess that'll be something to watch next Monday night when they come home to play the Atlanta Falcons. Is that rotation going to maintain and still be the same? I thought Nolan Smith towards the end of the game really started getting in gear. He was close. He didn't notice him a lot in the first half, but second half he started getting real close there.
Starting point is 00:15:20 That was a pretty encouraging. urging sign to see late in the game when as Vinny says you know they're gas and that dude's showing up and getting close and then with Quinyan Vinny when you got a rookie and you're just like he has a good camp right but you're like let's see what happens that's who in the game and you're like what happens that was nice and then it was like when we was talking before um Jenny Carter he he was winning most of his one-on-ones he dominated more you know I mean it was crazy it was like you know um I thought he had a good performance you spent some time at camp this summer What jumped out about Jalen Carter?
Starting point is 00:15:54 Dude, I don't think I've seen somebody block him the two practices I went to. I was just like, wow, this is crazy. Okay, we're waiting for Sirian. So let's run through these super chats that we have before we get to Nick. First from Alec. He says, Hertz was bad. The field was bad. The refs were poor and they still beat a top team.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Only up from here. Shout out to Vinny for joining the Ph.L.Y team. Thanks for the great coverage of the team. All those are factual. The field was terrible. Yeah. The refs were terrible. The offense and Jalen's decision making was terrible and they won.
Starting point is 00:16:29 So good times. Andre says, we need to move away from sweat and Maddox. Let's start cycling edge players through the practice squad and get Cooper some early reps to ramp up. Now, Cooper de Jean did miss a lot of time in the summer and Vic Fangio said he's not ready yet. He played, I think, I think three snaps tonight on defense. But I mean, I don't think you're going to get a practice squad edge rusher better than, better than Josh. sweat but yeah i don't know if he was limping late or just gas but he looked like he had those 42
Starting point is 00:16:57 plays i'm telling you yeah yeah he was especially week one right yeah because you're not you're not in full game shape that's why i'm telling you got to get a series you got to get a series of preseason what what week do you think you finally feel like fully like in game shape you know this is philadelphia now can't i mean you got to give it all you got to give it you all out there of Of course. You know, you got to give it you all out there. But that's what the rotation is coming for. You know, this is where the rotation is, I think that's what he's trying to say is,
Starting point is 00:17:26 they want to see more of the rotation. They want to see more, you know. If you see a kid limp in or you see somebody with hands on the hips, you rotate, rotate in, rotate out. Let's keep going on these. Matt got picked on a little bit there in the third quarter. He did a little bit. They went at him. He did a little bit.
Starting point is 00:17:41 Gris says pass rush from the front line, almost non-existent. Field issues are a bigger concern. I think we talked about that. Dylan says, what about Quinnian Mitchell's debut? on he looked good for his first pro game i totally agree you saw the same thing friend yeah and to me the the play that really stood out was late in the first half there was the the pass breakup he had on a vertical throw and uh they we couldn't see like the wide angle they didn't show the all 22 of it but uh just from the angles they showed what they what it looked like green bay was trying to do they ran a deep vertical
Starting point is 00:18:08 route to try and take quinyon down the field and open up an intermediate area like 15 22 yards he read it the whole way put his foot in the ground came downhill and got his hands on the football knock it down. You have to be excited about what we saw from 2017. An auspicious start from him. Absolutely. His recovery speed and his point of attack speed is different. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:29 And then that even the ball skills to get his right hand on that one play, where he came in and diving and got his hand right in there in between the receivers. He showed a little personality out there too. He was talking about it. The third's going to run you, but he's got to play. And it's so funny because it was like, He's so quiet. He's so quiet.
Starting point is 00:18:50 And then, you know, A.J. Brown and Devonji, be like, he just, he's like, just tells me that route is trash. Like, it's the first time I heard of talk. Yeah, I don't know if it was Watson or who it was, like, in the first quarter, but he got right in his face. And he was like, yeah, don't bring that us. All right. We also got Sean who says soccer players wear studs because they use those fields. Usually those fields are built for speed, not built for the movements that football players put on it.
Starting point is 00:19:14 You should never wear molded cleats on a pro soccer pitch. Oh, yeah. Valid points. Tamales sounded on the broadcast like Landon was calling a lot of the protections with Jalen. They also went to a silent count after a snap fumble in the first quarter. And listen, I think if you were to really make the argument that they needed some time in the preseason, it is that exchange from Jurgens and Hertz and then working on the pre-snap stuff ahead of time because that really was a very sloppy start.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Yeah, and let's be honest. Like, Kelsey make all the calls. You know what I'm saying? That's a rule day. And it is not, it's his fault that, but Kel's not here no more. So you got to make sure that it's on point. You know, you got to, you got to. And it's all cadence and timing and repetition and relationship.
Starting point is 00:20:00 And as a pass person, you know that it's a new center in there. So you just licking your tops at it. Was there a big difference for you, Vinny, if you're going up against a team where the quarterback called the shots as opposed to the set? How so? Yes, because if the center called the shots, you don't, you don't even hear the quarterback. Yep. You know, you try to find different things that help you get off,
Starting point is 00:20:20 get out there a little better. Think about it. Well, you saw, you never saw a miscue from Lane like that to get a freebie sack up like that. That's the things they're going to have to work on. Like, that don't even happen.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Like, I don't think that happened since, I don't think I've ever seen that. It didn't look like that could have been a flag. That's what they all thought it was happening. But yes, but it was also a tick slow from Juergens coming out probably, right? Right.
Starting point is 00:20:43 Yeah. Keeping going on these. We have Alex who says, Oh, just a free super chat. We appreciate that. Oh, thank you. Alex. What's up, Alex?
Starting point is 00:20:52 Yummy Manas. Yommy Manas. Jalen had issues with Kelsey snaps in the past and now with Juergens as well. Is Jalen doing something wrong from receiving the snaps? Well, Noah Eagle thought that last one, the touch push by the goal line was Jalen's fault. I thought so too. I mean, it looked like it, you know. Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:21:10 Maybe I was just talking to Fran before we came on. I was like, we're at that like weird age where like and Vinny, you're kind of there with us. like where you knew the way before where they were playing the preseason, get these reps, knock the rust off versus like staying healthy and everybody thriving and, you know, season long is the goal.
Starting point is 00:21:27 And you kind of saw it tonight where like the old man in me came out, like play some preseason. Get these reps. Just the games down. Just a series. Yeah, not like that. Just a series can be two plays.
Starting point is 00:21:39 It could be, you know, a run play and a touchdown. Yeah. Who's just saying that the first play not a touchdown, you know? Tio did it. Particularly. especially this summer, just because usually you had two joint practices with two different maybe one home, one away.
Starting point is 00:21:53 But this year they only had one, and they only had one individual practice against the Patriots. So you only really had that one day of live-ish feel going up against another defense. And a new center and a new offense. Yeah. Wow. I mean, they overcame. They won. They won the game.
Starting point is 00:22:07 They made the bad. They'd be fine. And they still won the game. Sean, another super chat says, Howie, feeling good tonight. Mitchell, Beckton, Bon, Sequin, looked great. Oh, let's get back into some love, too. He was manhandling, and that was his first time playing guard. He was man handling the blocks out there.
Starting point is 00:22:23 They did a great job. He was opening the holes out there. Another guy that you played with. What was he like? Oh, man, he was a good dude. A good kid, real good kid, man. Massive human. Yeah, he's huge.
Starting point is 00:22:35 But it's like, he wants to learn, man. He wants to learn. This is a great new beginning for him. I'm excited for him. You know, he has one of the best officer line coaches that you could act for. Sure. Coached out.
Starting point is 00:22:49 I think it's a perfect fit for him. All right. You thought Beckett looked good? Yeah, I'm excited to go back and watch the film tomorrow morning and just get a sense of exactly how the whole line is a group looked. You know, again, what they did against pressure, some of that is going to be on Jalen, and we talked about that already. But I'm excited to see what this offensive line looked like against Rishon Gary and Kenny Clark
Starting point is 00:23:09 and Preston Smith. That's a veteran group of talent. You got to tell everybody what your wife texted. you. Oh, yeah, yeah. The sequence scores his first touchdown, and your phone starts blowing up. And you're like, oh, and you're like, how I know what this is. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:24 So my wife texts me, she said, basically that's how you show the world that you're officially a bird. We didn't have her on the show. Absolutely right. I mean, what a debut. We'll keep rolling on these super chats. Santiago says, Siriani did not have a great presence on the sideline. I mean, this is going to be a story.
Starting point is 00:23:45 We talked about it at 2 o'clock to say. afternoon. I was real curious, like, what Siriani returned to because he was a man that, you know, got knocked down a couple pegs at the end of last year. And I was wondering, is that swag going to come? He did seem like a reserved kind of Siri. Well, the way this game started, how could he not, you know? Yeah. But he did seem. He showed, I feel like he showed poised. Okay. You know, let's be honest. If that was one in the four of us in the beginning of that, I probably would have been out my shirt so mad. You know what I mean? I think he showed you're right he had
Starting point is 00:24:18 every opportunity to get very angry yes that's true the one on the lane play I think less Bowen our colleague tweeted out like if there was ever a time to get mad at the refs it was right then and there and he didn't do it well there was a play late where jalen's scrambling
Starting point is 00:24:34 and he gets sort of held up by the defense and then nailed a little bit out to the play by another guy on defense in front of the he goes offensive line right in front of lane and those guys don't do anything it was that jumped out it's kind of weird It was a little weird. A little surprising.
Starting point is 00:24:49 We'll see if that becomes like a, that's one of those things you kind of like file away. Yeah. See if that becomes something on my radar. Yeah, sure. Josh says the fumble early was 100% on Juergens. I think that is right. And then we've also got some other freebies from Shrek T, Benjamin,
Starting point is 00:25:03 and another Benjamin who says, go heard. It's a big guy. He's a big, more should go. Go her, I think we've got to give a little bit of love to this outfit. I mean, the Roddy Piper. Roddy Piper. You change, just when you think you got all the answers, I'll change the questions.
Starting point is 00:25:16 That's it. And because we're going to have Zach on a little bit, if you want to flash the Jordans, because he's written about your Jordan's collection. How big is it? Fantastic. How many competitive fairs? Oh, man. Now I'm probably up to, I'm up to a crazy insane number.
Starting point is 00:25:31 Like over 125? Well, yeah, I've been over that, yeah. 175? You were at 600, I believe. 600? And that was a couple years ago. Oh. But, you know, listen, I do give a lot of sneakers away.
Starting point is 00:25:44 but you know how it goes when something's not there you feel like you're missing something you just get back on that hopefully we have we have you here long enough to see every single pair why don't we do a little

And they are hosting their charity pickleball event to raise money for a great cause. Financial education in our local communities. And as a dumb kid that ruined their credit in college, having a great time and not paying any bills and screwing up their credit for a long time, and I had to fight real hard to get out of that, this is a great cause.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Kids don't know enough about financial literacy and everything that goes with it. So Trumar is doing great work. The event is tomorrow at the Upper Dublin Sports Center and Ambler from 1.30 to 5. It's a round robin, non-competitive, fun event. pros are going to be there. Paddles and balls will be there. Starting point is 00:28:49 Yeah, Nick, that win, obviously, to escape against a good team, I'm sure you're happy about, but it felt a little like some of the wins from last year because it wasn't completely clean. How do you? Yeah, it's not easy to win football games in the NFL, Jeff, especially when you travel 10 hours, and I know the Packers traveled 10 hours too. It was a good, good win against a good, good opponent. Man, do I have so much respect for Coach LaFlor? He is a freaking, really good coach.
Starting point is 00:29:22 And that quarterback's a really good player. Jordan Love is a really, really, really good player. And that defense is tough. They got good players at every level. What I'm really proud about, Jeff, is it was sloppy. It was definitely sloppy. And both sides, there was things on both sides that looked like that it was sloppy, but we were able as a football team to persevere through some dark moments,
Starting point is 00:29:48 right? There was going to be some good stuff that happened in that game. There was going to be some bad stuff that happened in that game. And our guys just kept coming back. And I told those guys after the game, the dog mentality, the mental toughness, meaning the same thing, you know, having the same attitude, effort, and energy, no matter what the circumstances, not only serves these guys well as football players, but it's going to serve them well in life because life's hard. And these guys are fought through some tough stuff. And I don't know we got tough guys and tough-minded guys. And so it's not going to look pretty. Week one, it rarely looks pretty. We've had some, you know, thinking back, you know, I guess Atlanta was a good week one win in
Starting point is 00:30:33 21, but 22 was hard at Detroit. 23 was even harder at New England. And this one was hard too. But we were able to persevere. And we're not going to be, we're not going to be prisoners to, basically what I'm going to say is we're going to enjoy this journey. And we're not going to let anybody tell us that that wasn't good enough. This wasn't good. We won the football game. We have things to clean up. We know we put ourselves in the right positions the way we prepared. And we're going to prepare our ass off again going into the next week. I don't even know we play How do you think Jalen responded to the turnovers? You know, I really was, we couldn't have played a worse first quarter than we did.
Starting point is 00:31:16 Offensively, defensively did a great job of stepping up. But we couldn't have played a worse first quarter than we did. And then we came back down the field. He hit Sequin with an unbelievable throw. And so, you know, he's going to want some plays back, obviously. But I thought, you know, Jalen started as far as the dog mentality of playing through. in handling the adversity. Again, it wasn't perfect.
Starting point is 00:31:40 It wasn't perfect by any means. We can help him out with some play calls here and there as well. But I thought he responded good. Like that four-minute drive that we had, that drive started with, what, eight some minutes left to go in the game and we gave him the ball back with 27 seconds? Why? Because Jalen and Devante connected on some huge plays.
Starting point is 00:32:02 That's tough football. Four-minute football is tough football. and our guys really responded and to give them back, and they were positioned to throw a hell Mary at the end of the game, but our guys really, really responded. That four-minute football, when things haven't been going great, man,
Starting point is 00:32:17 I thought he did some really good things and some clutch moments. Yeah, so I thought, you know, there's going to be plays he wants back, but he had some really good moments as well. Give Zach a question here. All right. Hi, Coach. Congratulations on your win. Thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Um, Sequin Barclay had this huge debut for the Eagles today. So what was your approach about the run game with Sequin Berkeley, especially now that he switched teams to a division rival? Yeah, we're so excited to have him. Great question. Great question. And we're so excited to have him. And he made some huge, huge plays throughout this entire game.
Starting point is 00:33:02 And, you know, he made it. in the past game. He made a plays in the run game. I don't even know what he rushed for. Okay, Bob's going to pull that up for us. But he made some huge plays in critical moments and scored a bunch of touchdowns. And, man, it's, yeah, to have him on our football team means a lot, right?
Starting point is 00:33:23 How we did a great job of putting this team together. And, you know, he's a playmaker. And he's a great leader, and he's a great person. and people feed off his energy. And so you could feel all that. Not only the plays he was making, but the energy he had and the positive energy that he had out there.
Starting point is 00:33:41 Whose phone is beating? Hi, Nick. Congrats on the Wayne. Is it your phone? Not my. Oh, please be about Zach. Obviously, one of the key start lines during the off-season was
Starting point is 00:33:55 the year of changing both coordinators. All the international questions. And as you mentioned, the first quarter probably couldn't have been worse. But the team responded really good in the next three quarters. So how pleasure we are with the situation and do you believe that
Starting point is 00:34:09 slow start was doing to anything related to a new offense or do you think us just do it as a question? That's a good defense. Right, that's a good defense. I'm pleased with where we are. I'm really pleased with these coordinators. And it's, you know, the way you're pleased with somebody
Starting point is 00:34:22 is not because something, the product that was on the field today, right? It was because of the work that was put into it and all the things that have went into it. So I think Kellan and Vic are great, great coordinators. games don't always start the way you want them to. They get paid too, and that's a good football.
Starting point is 00:34:40 Man, that's a good football team. But I really thought the slow start, you know, slow start was offensively. Defensive played their ass off to start that game. To play as bad as we did offensively and to be down 6-0 to start the game is pretty awesome. And hats off to the defense. And we have some things, and don't get me wrong, we got things to clean up on both sides of the football.
Starting point is 00:35:06 But that could have got, we could have got down two scores right away, but the defense really did a good job of playing good red zone defense. So, but love these coordinators. Really pleased with who we are. I think they're both home run hits and excited to continue to move on. And we're going to, we'll have some tough conversations about what went right and what went wrong. But I'm pleased with who these guys are and we'll get better from this camp. Nick, obviously, Queennon went against a very good wide receiver group. What are your thoughts on his NFL debut?
Starting point is 00:35:40 Yeah, I thought Q is, the moment's never too big for Q. And I've seen that from Q from the very beginning. Obviously, I have a special relationship with Q's college football coach was my college roommate. So, you know, he told me everything there is to know and told Howie everything there is to know about Q. And so we were so comfortable taking this guy because not only the play, but because he's not phased. And playing corner, man, did Brazil get a great game tonight or what? I know we converted some people to be big-time football fans tonight.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Man, you know, I'm just thinking about that game again. And what a great football game. And I would love my wife's like, it wasn't a great game. I was kidding me. I was up all night. But, man, what a great game. But anyway, going back to Q. He's such a nerd.
Starting point is 00:36:34 Q just from the beginning, what we knew about him from the beginning coming out of Toledo. And then also the way he's handled all training camp in OTAs, he's not phased. Like he's going against A.J. Brown and Devante Smith. Those are two of the best receivers in the NFL, two of the top receivers in the NFL. And that's pretty awesome, right? The ironing, sharpening iron, right? Iron sharpens iron, one of my favorite Bible verses. And we have so much of that going on.
Starting point is 00:37:01 on this football team. Like, you know, guys having to go against Lane Johnson, guys having to go against A.J. Brown, Devante Smith, guys having to go against Darius Slay. Well, he'll be mad. I said Darius. But guys going against Slay.
Starting point is 00:37:14 And Q's a product of that. And so I thought he handled it well. And, you know, he got to pass interference at one point, but they tried to throw deep on him early on in the game, and he made a big play. And, you know, that's something I love about Q is his competitiveness. And you really saw
Starting point is 00:37:31 that, you know, again, we were told that, but you really saw that as well at the Senior Bowl when he was going against different players that were all really good football players, and he was competing his butt off, and love that about Q. Good question. Hey, good night. AJ Brown said that
Starting point is 00:37:49 San Paulo doesn't quite know when to cheer because the environment was really loud all the way, and I was watching from the stands, and there was a lot of Packer fans, but you had the home field advantage. So, what I wanted to ask you, did this feel like a home game? You know what?
Starting point is 00:38:09 At times, there's always Eagles fans everywhere, and that's what I love about Eagles fans. They travel so well. But we definitely had to go silent cadence here. And so you don't have to do that at true home games. But that's okay. That's the way this, I figured out this game was going to be. And we practiced that all week going silent cadence. but the atmosphere, I can't, I cannot, man, I'm not a big soccer fan.
Starting point is 00:38:36 I haven't watched a lot of soccer in my life. I shouldn't say that here. I haven't watched a lot of soccer in my life. But I can only imagine watching a soccer game here because it was so electric. And it was loud. It was loud when the Packers were, you know, on defense. And it was a lot when the Eagles were on defense. Because the passion of the fans, I mean, what an unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:38:58 I can't say enough about what we just experienced. If we want to be who we want to be, and we take things one game at a time, it's going to take atmospheres like this and games like this to prep you for the big games coming up, and this was a huge game. I'm still going, Bob. All right, so what an unbelievable,
Starting point is 00:39:25 what an unbelievable atmosphere. Yeah, you guys are going to want to talk to Sequin instead. sake, when we're at? Yeah, all right, baby. All right, go ahead. Thank you. Good night, Nick. In your first seasons as a coach,
Starting point is 00:39:45 you had young coordinators by our side, and now you had Vic Fengen, which proved the experience as coach. How do you think this help it tonight and could help in the future? You know, two of those coordinators that were younger, now head coaches in this unbelievable league, like in a fraternity of 32 people.
Starting point is 00:40:02 So Shane Steichen and Jonathan Gannon, I love those guys dearly. man, we did some special things and won some special games with them, and I miss them, no doubt. But I'm so happy with the coordinators that we have right now. Vic just brings experience. Like, I've said this a bunch. Vic has not only been a good coordinator for years.
Starting point is 00:40:23 Kellan's been a good coordinator for years in the NFL. Vic's been a good coordinator for decades. Like, that's insane. And so I'm really, I'm so excited. You know, obviously we got some things that we got to clean up on both sides of the ball, but but Vic is as advertised and he and I'm so excited that he's our defense coordinator. All right. I think we can, I think we can bump out of him.
Starting point is 00:40:49 When I was chatted. I can see your eyes. You're high. Happy. Yeah, we can. It was a good performance from Nick, but, you know, nothing too game specific. Yeah, well, you know, that 10-hour flight to come on with the dog, I'll be chatting too. Jaylon said on the field the ESPN, he said, this is going to be a fun flight home.
Starting point is 00:41:06 you know a win like this on a long flight makes a big difference you really are they're gonna i mean it's like an overnight flight they're not gonna make them watch film on this flight no no no you watch it on your ipad amongst each other and stuff like that you guys got understand something a game like that is going to help us down the stretch in the playoffs okay you know this is because this is this is show grit togetherness and grit are you able after a game like that i mean you must be physically exhausted are you able to like actually watch film and pay attention like mentally it feels like you'd be exhaustive it's 10 hours you're gonna watch you're gonna watch that uh this film you know
Starting point is 00:41:44 especially among among your peers you're gonna watch it everybody can give their thoughts and then look what this guy did to me nobody was looking like pick a three hour nap after that then you wake up which which position group is most likely to get nuts on the plane oh i like unless i was a good question well on our plane i was a guilty look you did that's a guilty look you did You know, A.C. Ducey Bussing out. Yeah. He didn't answer, D-Line. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:19 I don't say D-Ly-Ly-Long, on the D-Bs, man. I was going to say D-Bs, man. Yeah, C.JG.J. Oh, yeah, the D-Bs, man. Okay, that's good. Now, you had a lot of good calls tonight, Vinny, when we were watching the game. And one of them was before the game. You were talking about how much you like a read blank and,
Starting point is 00:42:36 shit. Oh, my God. What do you like about him? Bro. Bro. He put it all on the line, you know. And that's what we asked for. It's maximum, maximum effort, every single play. And you see that from that kid. You just you can fill him.
Starting point is 00:42:52 You know what I mean? Through the screen. So I just Is he a type of guy that's appreciated more on Mondays or Tuesdays whenever you're going over over film? Absolutely. And you're just like, damn, I didn't even notice that in the game. And he's just showing you that on every play. Absolutely. Man, he sells out. And he had a huge play in this game that interception.
Starting point is 00:43:10 I call that. You did? And it was, and it was. And I think we have a little bit of a clip of it. Fran, why don't you take us through what Reed Blankenship did here? Yeah, I mean, the big thing, this was more like a schematic play for me, just looking at what Vic Fangio is trying to do. And you'll notice that both of the edge rushers here on this play end up dropping out. And this is going to be a big topic of conversation.
Starting point is 00:43:34 It was a big topic last year. when, hey, you know, Josh Swett or Brandon Graham or those guys moving in reverse. Well, the Eagles have a bunch of guys up on the line of scrimmage here on this play. Zach Bond is on the far right side. Nolan Smith, I believe, looking at this, is on the far left side. Both guys drop. Zach Bonn ends up running down the scene with the number three receiver and makes this a more difficult throw for Jordan Love. And he ends up airmail on this and it goes right into Reed Blanketship's grass.
Starting point is 00:44:03 So to me, this is a great example of how those of. that ability to drop those defensive ends. That can put the quarterback a little bit of a spin cycle at times. We talked about this with Jordan Love. He's a great player, but you can force him into some mistakes at times. And to me, this is a great example of exactly that.
Starting point is 00:44:20 A pivotal play in the game. And Jalick's Hunt are kind of like the prototypical guys you want running these types of plays. No question, because they've got that athleticism to be able to move backwards and look comfortable doing it. And so with all those guys, I mean, that's what, and Zach Bond too. I mean, Bonn is a guy that has experience playing in reverse.
Starting point is 00:44:36 So him looking comfortable doing that, not a surprise. It is difficult to tell from the TV copy, but what were your general takeaways from what you saw from Vicks defense tonight? I mean, the big thing is that the offense had three turnovers, and they allowed nine points off those turnovers. And that's a big win, especially considering where some of those turnovers happened. Anytime you know this, obviously, like anytime you can get off the field on a sudden exchange and come off and say,
Starting point is 00:45:01 we held in the three, that's a win. So that is certainly one of the big takeaways. but then also look, mis-tackles, you can point to and say, we don't want that early in the season. That's something you hope that you try and get past. You come away with a win. This is the stuff we want to correct.
Starting point is 00:45:17 It's not even just a 10-hour flight. It's the, they're not playing the gun until Monday. Yeah. It's like a 10-day thing. Yeah. A loss would have been brutal. Telling you, I thought the defense was phenomenal. Because, hear me out.
Starting point is 00:45:34 A few more stunts we wanted. No, no. Just just think about the driving the drive was doing out. Yeah, you know you did that's you know that thought that was that was impressive Yep you know and then they still even with the mistakes to still hold a good Offense you know and a good team the Packers the six points are you can't actually no more than that Yeah, it almost felt like the defense won them the game there in the first quarter Vinnie when when Josh Jacobs finally started going there in the second half what were you seeing like from the defense? What were we seeing from green Bay's offense? that kind of spurred that on from Josh Jacobs.
Starting point is 00:46:08 Because he started running all over him a little bit. So it was like talking before. So a runnerback like that, he's trying to, he's leaning on you. He leaned on. You try to weigh you down, you know. And that's when, you know, you want to, you know, get guys in, get guys out. Get guys in, get guys out. And for some reason for a little stint there, we wasn't doing that
Starting point is 00:46:27 because they, what was a 70-yard drive? Yeah, they had three 70-yard drives in a row for touchdown. Oh, my God. There were a couple of those drives where, you know, whether it was Jacobs or Wilson, they were able to get off some big chunks on the ground. And Wilson ran hard in this game. But Jacobs, when they was, I think it was six carriers for four yards in the first half. But to your point, he's a guy that will wear you down. And the game goes on.
Starting point is 00:46:50 He got better in the second half. Jordan Davis popped to anybody tonight to my naked eye. I'm sure he was fine in the run game. And that's kind of what we've come to expect from. He didn't really like jump off the screen to me personally. And this was not, yeah, this was not really the game. for him, right? They opened this game in base in that 5-2, and
Starting point is 00:47:08 then it was like pretty much nickel the rest of the game. And so, that's not going to be, that's not going to be his game, right? A place for him to thrive. I mean, I don't know. I didn't see. I didn't notice much of them. A time. That's not to say. Maybe we'll say. Look at 40 friends breakdown. It'd be all right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:47:24 I trust you. It's the, it's the first game. You know what you're talking about with D-Line. Yeah, I'll touch you on that one. I don't think it was one of those games that you, you know, for him to, you know, to get outside his bag. So I thought, you know, if we, if we, if we, if we, if we, if we, if we, if we, if we
Starting point is 00:47:45 didn't do anything wrong. Okay. It's such a, it's such a, we know, we, you know, we, sure. It's such a known thing that, that, that for defensive tackles, it takes a while. Right. Even more than, than edge guys. Why is that, do you think? Um, because they have, they, they, they have to protect, you know, those, those A's and B gaps.
Starting point is 00:48:05 So, you know, so, and then in this game, you got to kind of keep them off the linebackers. And we was able to see the Kobe Dean fly around. So I'm going to go. Yeah, maybe Zach Bonn really loves to it. Yeah, I'm going to let me say. Yeah, sure. That's totally fair. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:22 Maybe he just did his job. Sure. And I feel like there are some guys that come in and they're ready to go. Like out of the box, they can rush the pass or defend the run, be three down players. But so often, and Josh Swett is a great example of that, where year one is basically a red shirt year year two you start to see flashes and there's a one or one or two rushes a game like yeah like that's it and that's the thing is when you have those kind of guys in a room and now josh sweat is that guy for some of these younger players but that's going to be such a big
Starting point is 00:48:51 story all through this year when you have jalen carter in year two jordan davis in year three nolan smith in year two jellick's hunt in year one just watching a lot of these young defensive lineman start to come along how will the vets bring them along and how will they take to that teaching it's going be a big story and it's going to really set the ceiling for this defense you were sort of talking about this off air yesterday benny just like the the lineage of the eagles d line right the guys who were there who taught you when you first got there and you guys passing that that stuff along what is it in your mind that sort of makes like the DNA of the eagle's defensive line oh well i want to you know um when you think about the eagles you automatically think of the line play yeah you know so um
Starting point is 00:49:33 that brings me to my point you know you say he didn't Jordan and pop up the screen because we're so used to DeLyman in Philadelphia sure popping up off the screen you know we had 91 for for a long time here you know
Starting point is 00:49:47 he was popping yeah he was he was so you know we we have to see you know the the team's copy yeah to really break it down sure speaking of I thought BG I was gonna say he a spry out there does that make you feel
Starting point is 00:50:03 like maybe you want to suit up. I'm never to you, Big. You know, he had a little back pedal. Yeah. He looked good. Yeah, B. Founding of youth down in Brazil. Yeah, that's a little talk about.
Starting point is 00:50:16 That's right. That's right. We're going to hear from Zach Berberman in a little bit. But let's switch to the offense again. We haven't talked about AJ Brown yet. Five catches for 119 yards. The touchdown, the 67-yarder. I mean, I would say that touchdown in the third quarter. order change the game.
Starting point is 00:50:34 100%. The momentum, the swing, everything. Yeah, and they kind of opened the floodgates up for all, like, unfortunately, all offenses started going. But like, that play right there made the Eagles kind of go. And I think I saw, I think Nate Tice tweeted that it was the fastest that AJ Brown has run according to the, you know, the tracking in like three years or something like that on that play.
Starting point is 00:50:54 Love that. With the messed up field. Yeah. With the messed up field. And then Devante, end of the game is the guy. It was sort of what it reminded me of a little bit was the, the like Zacherts on the Super Bowl game winning drive, right? Like the guy that you could just go to in those tight windows.
Starting point is 00:51:09 And Jen was willing to throw him the ball. Seven catches for 84 yards for DeBonte. And I think like 35 of them came on that last drive. And then Goddard four for 31, but I actually thought he looked, he looked spryer than he did last year. Yeah, he looked quicker. He did. I think in that short little burst on the play in the fourth quarter there,
Starting point is 00:51:27 he looked quicker to me than he did last year. And same with Jalen too in terms of quickness. did you think so I'm not so sure I agree last year he had like a gal up to him he had a little hitch to him he had like a little hitch in his run I didn't see that tonight
Starting point is 00:51:39 so that's why I say that okay and then the touchdown passed to Sequin Fran we talked about this on the halftime show tell me about that play because it is one that we did see a lot this summer yeah the basic idea of that play is you have a couple of receivers lined up outside the formation and they're going to release
Starting point is 00:51:55 vertically up the field and try and create some space along the sideline and Seekwan Barkley he starts to the right he's going to kind of weave through the defensive line and hoping to lose that linebacker who's responsible for him in coverage, kind of let him get lost in traffic a little bit and just count on Sequin with his wheels
Starting point is 00:52:12 running away from that backer. And that's exactly what happened. It was a great ball from Jalen. The receivers were able to lift the coverage and create a void there and Seekwan ran into the gap. The big thing too is that what I love about that play is that they have a built-in progression there for the quarterback where Dallas Goddard is running in the
Starting point is 00:52:29 is running a shallow cross. behind Sequin. So if Jalen doesn't like that throw, so often, think about the last year, guys, how often Jalen would hit the top of his drop. And if he didn't like it, that's where he had to pat the ball and kind of run around. He had to get his eyes back to the other side of the field. With that play and that kind of progression, he's not having to switch his eyes all the way back over to the far right. Dallas Goddard's right there in his vision. So it's bang, one, two, three, and now I'm moving on from there. So I love the fact that they've got this play in their back pocket. They were able to hit it for a touchdown. It would not shock me if we see them
Starting point is 00:53:01 continue to run that play this season. And sometimes it's going to go to Dallas Goddard on the shallow cross. And Goddard, I mean, he probably has a score touchdown there, but he's catching and running and he's going to pick up a nice game. So it's one of the things I like. Is that more of a stable of Kellyn Moore offense or is that Kellyn Moore maybe suiting some things a little, you know, baby stepping Jaylen into this? I think that those kinds of plays.
Starting point is 00:53:21 I don't remember that one exactly from last year. Those kinds of plays are some of the one of the things that I've loved about watching Kellyn Moore over the years in Dallas. And then also last year with the Chargers is that, he's able to create not necessarily like easier, easier throws for the quarterback, but essentially try to make them more defined. And that's one where it makes the progression easier for the quarterback. That was responsible.
Starting point is 00:53:41 That play was responsible for one of the funniest moments of the summer. When they run that play for a touchdown, they beat Julian O'Quara. And then they run it on the next play with a different running back. And poor Julian O'Cquara has to drop into coverage again. And he's just like, man, why are you picking on them? Speaking of too, just talking about Jalen Hertz and some of these numbers, and there was motion on that play.
Starting point is 00:54:01 That was the other thing too, is that. So Vante Smith was running from left to right on that play at the snap. So again, if you're a second or third level defender, you've got, all right, I've got a three receiver set over to my right. Here goes Devante Smith across the formation. But now Sequot's coming back the other way. So again, just kind of create some eye candy there. Mental gymnastics. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:54:20 Next gen stats just released the numbers on Jalen Hertz with motion here in this game. 15 of 21. So 21 dropbacks with motion, 212 yards, two touchdowns, a QB rating of 100. 35.4. So that's a very hard of stuff right there. But then they also, I went and looked at the blitz numbers as well.
Starting point is 00:54:37 And he was six of seven against the blitz, 91 yards and a touchdown. A perfect quarterback rating. Outstanding against the it was the rest of the plays that he struggled with. And it was those ones that he was good. Yeah. I mean, it anecdotally
Starting point is 00:54:49 looked like that. When the ball came out at the top of his drop, the offense looked great. Yep. And then everything else. Like surprisingly, the sort of extemporaneous stuff was not really there. That play at the end of the game. that can't happen. Taking points off the board.
Starting point is 00:55:04 That is just the play. Or the one on the sideline. There was two in a row. I mean, he kind of double-patted. It was almost like last year, Jane went a little bit thrown to the sideline. And then the next play, just taking three points off the board there.
Starting point is 00:55:15 That was almost killer. And then on the motion frame, which we talked about on the show with Danes, AJ Brown, on that touchdown, he goes into motion. Yeah. More receiving yards out of motion on that one play than he had all last year.
Starting point is 00:55:27 And that's that play certainly will carry a lot of the weight there with some of those motion numbers. I mean, without it, he still was 14 of 20 for, that would that be 1, 145 in a touchdown? Still good numbers. But I think when you're looking at the way that Kellan Moore is going to put these guys on the move. And again, it's all about just trying to make things a little bit easier
Starting point is 00:55:46 visually for the quarterback and create some space for these guys to be able to run into. All right. Julie, do we have Zach? Oh, no. We're having the South Paulo issues again. The best thing about this whole thing is that they get to playing the link on Monday. That's it.
Starting point is 00:56:05 What's that? I mean. Coming back on for this, coming back to the link, it's going to be rocking in Philadelphia. Is that, I mean, the first game at home. Ooh. And night game, too? Ooh. Ain't nothing like it, man.
Starting point is 00:56:21 You like night games? I love them. Yeah. I love him. Love them. I love them. At the link. Especially a home game, right?
Starting point is 00:56:28 Yeah. Yeah, you don't want to erode like it necessarily. Yeah, man, it's nothing like playing at front of this. Yeah. 10 days off. What does that do for you mentally and physically here? Clean some things up. Clean some things up, getting some cold tub, get some massages going on,
Starting point is 00:56:46 and then, you know, come out firing. How's everybody feeling after week one? You know, it's not the tough camps anymore. It's not the Andy Reed camps. Week one, are you just... 45 plays in the first half. Yeah, I mean, a 10-hour flight on top of it, you know, you're not able to stretch out. These are large humans, like, yeah, that extra time is nice.
Starting point is 00:57:09 Yeah, yeah. I mean, there is a lot to clean up. Oh, we have them. All right, let's see if we got the man. Oh, where is that? The outdoor press box. Yeah. You got me, guys?
Starting point is 00:57:22 We got you. Why don't you just sort of go? Yeah, great. I'm pumped to talk to you guys. I just left Saquan Barclay, waiting for J. Allen Hertz. I was in the locker room there, walk in there. It's a pumped up locker room. I mean, they know they have a 10-hour flight in front of them.
Starting point is 00:57:40 The leave here with a win, speaking to DJ Garner Johnson, Zach Vaughn, Slay, Devonte. Settement was like the way they were to put things together. Talking to defensive guys, the emphasis was the red zone defense, one of four in the red zone. and that was critical. I spoke to read blanket chip about the interception. That changed the game there.
Starting point is 00:58:11 Zach Bond said he didn't necessarily prove things to the fans. He proved it to himself. He said he's not aware of what's been said about him, but he thinks he did show a lot tonight. He had a game ball that he packed in his bag as he was leaving. So that's kind of an anecdote there. But across the board, I mean, it was an energized lock. room. It was a long trip.
Starting point is 00:58:35 They were down here, and to leave with the win, it was huge. What was the, what was the atmosphere at the game like, Zach? Oh, okay, well, in and out. Classic, classic, that's all right. We're going to have Zach on the show on Monday. We'll have plenty to unpack and hear from the NFL Wi-Fi. Really disappointing this show.
Starting point is 00:58:59 Oh, man. It's dropping him. It's tough. It's tough. Now, you know, Nick talked about the sloppiness and all the stuff that they have to clean up there. I mean, there is a lot. that they're going to have to be able to fix, like you talked about. I mean, even just like a penalty on the opening kickoff, you know, the Jail and Carter roughness, yeah, the personal foul, the bad snaps, all that stuff. Do you think that that is stuff that can get corrected quickly?
Starting point is 00:59:22 Absolutely. The one personal file, though, I didn't think that was when he pushed him down. Yeah, that was lame. Ah, come on. Was that bull? Yeah. Oh, that was a, yeah, that was a awful call. Come on.
Starting point is 00:59:32 I think they fell for like the love of the fling back. Yeah. Doing WWE moves. out there. They ain't taking bumps. Come on now. That was crazy. But, you know, they got to clean that up, you know.
Starting point is 00:59:43 But that 10 days will help. Yeah. I think that's reasonable. When you say clean it up, is that done in the film room or is that done on the field? No, I mean, some of the, some of the personal fouls are uncouth. Like, what are you doing, man? Is that just like players holding each other accountable? Like, don't do you do.
Starting point is 01:00:03 Yeah. Yeah, I'm pretty sure to, you know. Shame a guy and not doing it again. Yeah. All right. They need to get, we should have a little pot, you know,
Starting point is 01:00:12 the little pot, you just put a little fire money in there and doing crazy stuff. Like, what do you think about? And what happens to the pot? Yeah, what's the money spent on
Starting point is 01:00:20 at the end of the year? Oh, no, so the money spent at the end of the year during Christmas time, you just give it out to some of the world. Oh, great.
Starting point is 01:00:27 That's cool. I was going to say that those 600 pairs of Jordan they don't just appear. No, no. No, no. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:36 And so I think, for the defense, there's some tackling stuff in addition to that. You know, CJ Gardner Johnson, I thought, had a few mistackles today. But, I mean, it's hard to say given the fact that they gave up so much, so many points in this game and like the consecutive 70-yard touchdown drives. But I was kind of encouraged by the defense, even though they didn't have a ton of pass rush help. It just said they looked more competent than you were than, you know, they did last year for sure. Yeah, I mean, that's what you're hoping from Vic Fangio is that he's going to raise the floor and
Starting point is 01:01:06 raised the competency level overall of that unit. And I think that's what we saw tonight. This is a good, the thing you remember is this is a good offense going up against. The Packers have one of the better offenses in football. They finish as a top five offense in the backstretch of the 2020 three season. And so you had to expect that they were going to come in and find ways to be able to move the football. They created some big plays off gadgets, off play action throws, off the run game. I mean, they could beat you in a lot of different ways.
Starting point is 01:01:30 So what the defense was able to do, considering all of that, I think, was impressive. And to your points, they have a great defensive line. They got good defensive backs. Sure. A good lineback of court. They got good defense. And, you know, to come away with this win is big time. So you said on the blitzes specifically tonight, was it six or seven?
Starting point is 01:01:52 Six or seven, yep. What did you notice on the other side, you know, in terms of Fangio's defense and blitzing? What jumped off the page to you there? I can look at what Love's numbers were, but I think the big thing was, that just try to continue to mix things up. And it seemed like we did see Nacobi. We saw Bond certainly with two sacks come from the second level. But it wasn't too often where it was like five or six man pressure.
Starting point is 01:02:16 Very often it was a lot of those exchange blitzes where a linebacker comes, but one of the defensive ends drop out. And so it's still a four-man rush. You're not giving up bodies in the back end. So you still have volume there from a coverage standpoint. That's one of the things I'm excited to see when I go back through the film tomorrow morning. Well, if the defense has a leaky, pipe. I think we know who they could call. That would be our friends at Ace Hardware Home

Starting point is 01:03:24 Yeah, and let me tell you about our friends over at Wright Aid. Not only is Wright Aid here to help you with your fall allergies, I'm dying. Apparently the ragweed is popping this year. and it's killing my eyes, it's killing my throat, everything. So stop into right aid. Not only can you talk to their friendly neighborhood pharmacist there about what you can do to prevent that. But while you're there, you can find some great snacks.
Starting point is 01:03:46 I could go for some gummy bears right about now myself, whether it's water, coconut water, snacks, single serve iced tea, juices for a crowd. They got everything you need. You're mixing up some cocktails for Sunday football gathering. Go to write aid and get all the mixers you need. They got everything you need. Plus a great friendly pharmacy that can help you beat these fall allergies. So it's important to say hydrated, especially during, you know,
Starting point is 01:04:13 a little bit of the heat we got left. Get refreshments delivered. Just shop online at righteat.com slash shop for same day delivery or buy online. Pick up in store from their great line of refreshery products. All right. We're going to give Zach one more shot here. Oh, this is Roger Cadell's fault, not Zach. Zach's given an A plus effort.
Starting point is 01:04:33 Oh, it's nothing, not Zaxfall at all. It's not Zaxfault at all. Roger Goodell. But he doesn't look happy right now. He's frozen. Oh, that poor guy. Come on, Goddell. Can they get a little like Starlink action down there?
Starting point is 01:04:47 Try Skype. Okay. I'll tell you what my favorite part of the broadcast was. The whoever put together that graphic of the coaching carousel or the coordinator carousel where they show Sean Desai and then like Matt Patricia just sneakily pops out from behind him. That was very funny. Well done. Yes.
Starting point is 01:05:03 to me, yeah, that was well executed from that standpoint. Real quick, going back to the blitz numbers, Jamie. So Jordan Love against five or six-man pressures was three-for-eight, 53 yards in this game. So it wasn't great. All right, let's run through the super chats. And as we wait to see if Zach's going to join us one more time, before we close things out here. Gustavo says, hello from Brazil.
Starting point is 01:05:31 We loved to host an NFL game. and have that Eagles as local in our stadium. Thanks for bringing the game to Brazil, this great sport. Go Birds Go. That's awesome. Gustavo. Thank you for checking in, man.
Starting point is 01:05:44 That's great. And you hear the Skype that can only mean one thing. Mr. I will not give up. He's giving it one more shot. Zach, are you there? What a Skype channel is? You got me? My Australian girlfriend in 2000.
Starting point is 01:06:05 It looks better. All right, Scott. Jack, how are you doing? Zach. Zach, you're 8K now. Can you not hear us? Oh, no. He can see us when he's got good.
Starting point is 01:06:22 Connection, but he can't hear us. We can't hear you, man. Oh, we can like very faintly hear you. Perfect. All right. Now you got me. We got you. A little better.
Starting point is 01:06:38 Perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect. All right, guys. Awesome to see you. Here I am in Corinthians Arena, as you can see. And I don't have a locker room. It is jacked up. It's about the coming. It's so good.
Starting point is 01:06:58 Oh, he's back. He's back from a comedy. Okay, go ahead. All right. I tell you, Brazil needs to work on their internet. A great country. We've got to work on the internet here for sure, especially the stadium.
Starting point is 01:07:13 but yeah no ask but oh no no Zach poor Zach give us like a two-word summary of how the game went now like game went I mean the star showed up
Starting point is 01:07:35 that was the key we've spoken this entire summer about AJ Brown Sey Juan Barclay Devantay Smith that's the reason for optimism about this team all of them showed up tonight you know I spoke to Devonte Smith about that
Starting point is 01:07:48 last drive and the clutch catches that he got more than two words that's pretty good that's pretty good it's pretty good it's gonna snap back okay uh Zach down okay Zach we love you thank you for great effort Zach why don't you why don't you do what we've done before
Starting point is 01:08:11 give us a little uh you know video of yourself from Corinthian Stadium give us the scene set that and we'll put that up on social media and then you can get writing so we'll look forward to the full coverage from Zach Berman on all p.hloi.com. All right. Let's run through the other super chats.
Starting point is 01:08:27 MJ says just saw a video on Twitter where it looks like Love's knee popped. Hope it's not as bad as that video. Somebody in our Discord boasts are the same thing. It looked like an ankle more when he was leaving. I saw one of these online Twitter doctors. You know, Dr. David Chow. So this is as good as, you know, said it looked like a high ankle sprained to him. So if that's the case, I would imagine Love either plays and isn't the same or is down, you
Starting point is 01:08:52 probably a couple weeks there. Yeah, that didn't look good, which is a bummer. Yeah, that sucks for one of the games, you know, good young quarterback. Thanks for him, sucks for the whole team. Yeah, happens week one. I mean, the league, yeah. Santiango says who's a bigger Christian, Bo or Siriani? Obviously, it depends if you're talking about Christian Ellis or not.
Starting point is 01:09:08 Aaron says, Slay force fumble on Josh Jacobs. That was a nice play. That was. He brought a wood. Yeah, and this is, you know, you talk about just the margins that the side of the game. There's the Nekobi dropped pick six. There's that fumble that they could have picked up. There's also, you know, the Jalen,
Starting point is 01:09:22 one that could have gone the other way. It's just, you know, the margins of a football game are kind of nuts. But for the Eagles to come away with a win against a good team and again, that they lost a turnover battle by two speaks to their their grit, I guess. Tamales says with motion hurts was 15 for 20. He's got your numbers, friend. With 10.1 yards for attempt and over 200 yards, the offense was humming without the three major avoidable turnover.
Starting point is 01:09:46 Good start for Kellyn Moore. And then Nick Z says, what does Vinny think of the point of emphasis on tackles positioning at the line, obviously Lane gets called for it tonight and some interesting back and forth with Kelsey and JJ Watt on Twitter. You know. What do you think of that? It's going to be, you know how the receivers got to check with the rest? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:06 It's going to come down to that. You saw Lane doing it right after that play. He was like, you're like good now? Like kind of sarcasticly. Even last night game was the same as that way. They got called for like four times. Oh, the ratings got called for. Yeah, that was crazy.
Starting point is 01:10:16 Yeah. But, you know, hey, that goes to show you that, usually the, there's an elite pass rusher on the other side of them when they try to get that kick out get that kick out early. Did you like give Lane you know crap about that
Starting point is 01:10:30 during practice like you're up the line? Yeah, we should do it all the time. You know, but you know, look we, I mean, he learned it from, you know, JP. Right. Yeah, so you know, I'm really going to say too much to.
Starting point is 01:10:42 You can say one of laying. Yeah. You want to lay in. You want to leave you up. You know what I mean? Hey, you got it, brother. Although I feel like, I feel like your beard right now
Starting point is 01:10:50 is close to JP level. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you know. It's pretty strong. You know. Got funny, man. All right. Let's get rid of the close things out here.
Starting point is 01:11:02 You know, it's past 1 o'clock. I think that's pretty reasonable. Final thoughts, Vinny, I guess, from you on, I mean, Sequin is the debut, right? That's what we're going to be. 26. Fantastic. That's what you're going to be thinking about when you put your head on the pillow tonight from this game. Is Sequon's debut?
Starting point is 01:11:18 All of them, actually, man. Like you said, they all showed up. I mean, it was as advertised on, you know, from all the guys, you know. Of course, we didn't like turnovers, but when you look past that part, I think everybody showed up. Yeah, me, personally. I mean, it's just really nice to have Sequin Barkley here in Philadelphia. Thank you, John Mara, for running a very unsurious organization. And Quinyan Mitchell, you know, really excited about this kid.
Starting point is 01:11:48 My gut, without seeing him play, was just telling us. me this kid's the real deal seeing some of those plays tonight this this kid's going to be nice for me it's what viny said earlier that this is the kind of game the kind of win that you that pays dividends in december down the stretch when you're in those situations you you can reflect back in the moment on having games like this where look it wasn't all perfect but you were able to come away with a win that's been a hallmark of some of these really good eagles teams in the past it also can be a harbinger of bad things to come as well so you're hoping it doesn't go that way but for me that's one of my big takeaways outside of Sequan's huge debut, you know, Quinyan Mitchell,
Starting point is 01:12:25 some of these other bright spots. For me, as a team, that's one of the big things to take away. Yeah, I think you don't want to, you know, to steal the Zachism, make a, you know, a one week as a season. You don't want to take too much from one game, especially one game that was 10 hours away on the slippery field, all these weird conditions. They didn't practice in the in the preseason, right? But the fact that they still got came away with this win, who knows what happens with Jordan Love? but if he's okay, the Packers will be a contender. This will be a win that matters down the stretch and their schedule over the next couple weeks is a little bit easy.
Starting point is 01:12:56 So yes, this is, you check the box, you move on, you get the happy flight home. Yeah, too. And then now you can get sort of get back to work next. Monday night, baby. Yeah. You know, don't get twisted. Kirk Couss and don't go come into town
Starting point is 01:13:08 and that's going to be the ones that he's going to show everybody. Because I think the Eagles fans will be very happy to see Kirk Cousins in the link in prime time again. We love that. Three years in a row. three years in a real. Me too. All right. That's for that'll do it for the
Starting point is 01:13:22 postgame show. What? Oh, we have one more super chat. LK says, hello from 1 PM here in Perth, Australia. I lived in Perth. My man. How long? Big Eagles fans.
Starting point is 01:13:34 Six months. I was in Fremantle. That is awesome. Okay. Shout out to the Frio Dockers. I love Perth. I stayed in Western Australia for six months. I never wanted to leave.
Starting point is 01:13:45 So cool to have somebody from there checking in. Awesome. Go to Rocko's restaurant, by the way, in Frio. Wow. Free pub. There you go. Luke Longley's a regular.
Starting point is 01:13:55 Luke Longley. All right. That'll do it. Now, for schedule-wise, we're going to have a show on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday next week, all 2 o'clock. And then we'll be back with our next postgame show next Monday night as the Eagles take on the Atlanta Falcons in the home opener. Stay tuned to all phtly.com for full coverage. Zach Berman's going to have his thoughts from South Palau. I know Fran's going to have some work on everything he sees once that film is finally released to see Frans first.
Starting point is 01:14:25 H.O. I dive in. Work is just beginning for you. Six hours from now, I'll be getting through that film. So excited. Fantastic. 34 to 29. The Eagles start the 2024 season with a victory. Saquan Barkley.
Starting point is 01:14:37 What a debut. Three touchdowns. 109 yards on the ground plus a 23-yarder. And Jalen Hertz goes 20 of 34 for 278. Two touchdowns, two interceptions. AJ Brown. 5 for 119 and Zach Bonn leading the way on defense an interesting development for the middle of the Eagles defense
Starting point is 01:14:55 that'll do it and a great debut from our new our co-coals here fantastic thank you again and also for Fran France first yeah I can't wait to watch a film breakdown
Starting point is 01:15:12 oh thank you man I'm I'm excited now to have some real football to break down Yes, that's what I'm most excited about. Well, we are all excited to see how that goes. So thanks to everybody for staying up late with us tonight. Enjoy the win. You got a long time to do it. We will talk to you on Monday,
Starting point is 01:15:29 and then we'll talk to you the Monday after that for the next Eagles game. Thanks to everybody for watching and listening. Thanks to Julia for making it happen. We'll talk to you later. And as always, we love you. Go birds.
