Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello to the PHLY Eagles podcast on a Wednesday afternoon, Bowulf, Shiel Capadia, and Zach Berman, Zach, you were originally going to miss this episode, be down at the Novacare Complex. Yeah. And you just, you had it in the back of your head. I know you did. You just said, I can't miss a, I can't miss a show with Sheel. Yeah, when this is your job.
Starting point is 00:00:24 When friends get together, it's fun, right? And this is, this is fun. We don't get to do this very often. You don't want to talk business right away the minute you sit down? So no, this is fun. And then, yeah, you can't be in two places at once. There are pulled inaudible. There's some stories that I'm working on that I'm excited to release to our diehards and all our fans.
Starting point is 00:00:45 And it just, so there's some guys I was expecting to talk to. It wasn't going to work out. It was a confined period today. And I said, you know what? I should be here with the two of you and Julia. Shil, how you doing? I'm just glad you did the emergency pot last night because I realized I was coming the day after cut down day.
Starting point is 00:01:03 And I'm like, I don't want to sit there for 45 minutes of you yelling about Trevor Keegan or whatever you were doing last night. So thank you to everyone for getting that out of the way. And now we can kind of move on. I'm sure you're, I mean, you're rile. It's like, this is the most consistent thing in my life is Bo the day after cut down day, yelling about some offensive line roster thing. It's unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:01:25 I mean, I'm still up in arms about it, even though Dylan McMahon apparently will be returning to the Eagles practice. squad. What is the news now that the waiver wire stuff has been processed, Zach? No one from the Eagles was claimed elsewhere, and the Eagles were not awarded anyone on the waiver wire. So if the Eagles do make any changes, it'll have to be via free agency. But Nick Gates is expected to resign with Eagles. I would expect him to be the backup center for week one. Well, E.J. Jenkins is expected to resign with Eagles. When I say resigned practice squad, he'll probably be tight end three unless the Eagles had a veteran here. So we'll monitor that.
Starting point is 00:02:02 My one piece of comment, because I do like Bo's annual 53 rant. I said this on Anthony's show, and I say this lovingly and with respect. One of like the cool pieces of confidence that I should emulate from Bo is it's never that he got the 53 wrong. It's that the Eagles got the 53 wrong. He had the comment last night, we should have taken them for their word that they're just smart. But you should take me in my word that I know exactly. So yeah. So it's like, it's the confidence that they were wrong and not made.
Starting point is 00:02:34 I love that. Unbelievable. Honestly, some of those things are true. Some of them are not like. I think they made the right decision with, you know, E.J. Jenkins is going to be able to get it through the practice squad. I don't think that they necessarily made the right decision having to keep James Bradbury on the roster as the like 12th defensive back.
Starting point is 00:02:55 I don't think they ended up making the right decision on McMahon, but it worked that well. He'll be on the practice squad. this team is not like the best team in the world. They're not infallible. No, I rip them all the time. Okay. What you rip them about is funny to me. Very on brand for you.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Yeah, I mean, if we don't care about the margins, then we don't care about the big things. I don't know about that. By the way, Shookabati of the Ringer. That's right. Article up today on five big questions facing the Seagull's season. We've got 10 big questions for you today. A new game, we figured if you're going to be sitting in this seat, we've got to have an inscrutable game that is,
Starting point is 00:03:29 a bunch of different questions, but also confidence points. We're going to call it quail to the victors for Zach now that he's here today. Yeah, I got a text last night. What was at 930 that said a little bit of homework? A long list of questions with some weird scoring system. And I said, I'll be there tomorrow and answer them on the fly. I'm not doing it. If I have some time in my car, as I'm waiting for you to let me in before the show, I'll do it.
Starting point is 00:03:52 Otherwise, I can figure it out on the fly. Then we did have some time out there, and I started going through it. And even then, I'm not doing this. So we'll do it on the phone. This is where I emulate your confidence because I was at home this morning preparing to send something to join. You were sending follow-up questions. Yes, exactly. And I think this is a good lesson for me to take.
Starting point is 00:04:08 And Zach can have you to blame now that it's not worth doing any show prep. I won't give any heads up about what's coming on the show. We'll just show up and do the show. Is that okay with you, Zach? No. No, I'm a prep guy. Well, well, apparently not Sheal. Anything else?
Starting point is 00:04:25 I want to tell on any way. I want to talk about Shield before we get to the game. Well, I was going to send, Julia, as I told her, my actual lab results from, you know, the strep throat second time in a month. Thank you to, you know, Zach, nice friend believing in me, checking in on me after the fact. Somebody else going on multiple episodes questioning a man's sickness when he doesn't want to come in and infect his friend. So Zach checked in. I believe. Man is checked in, you know, how you feel him by everything or you need anything.
Starting point is 00:04:54 And then there's both. So, you know, just different levels of friends. All I'm saying is you can't take it as fact. That's all. I mean, if you were a journalist and someone tells you they're sick, do you say they are sick or you say they said they were sick? I was irked by this and I had the idea that if Zach wasn't going to be here today, maybe I just stand bow up. Like that would have been good content. He's got to go on at 2 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Regardless, if I just don't show up, go ahead. Tough guy, you know, question a man's strep throat. So just keep it. I mean, I do think that that would have been a good long running bit. Well, maybe next time. So, Joey has known me for about 30 years now, 25 years, and probably the most scared that she's ever seen me was I was hosting a show this summer. And we had a guest co-host in who, great guy, but he didn't park in our lot. He parked a few blocks away and he was walking and he got here a few minutes in.
Starting point is 00:05:44 And so I had to do like the first eight minutes of the show on my own. I don't remember that. I was scared out of my phone. Who do I pitch a question to? And I'm just like rolling. rolling. It's kind of like when you leave a voicemail to a girl,
Starting point is 00:05:59 like when you're going on a date the first time. Never done that. Literally. You don't know what to stop. Swingers. This is. Yeah. So it's kind of like that.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Well, I'm actually glad you brought that up, Zach. Because, Shil, you've been doing these Sunday night solo pods. Yeah. How do you find the solo endeavor? It doesn't matter how I find them. Out of the odd. It's a nice way to start to leave. Well, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:19 I mean, he's wrong. You would, you should be very, you could easily do a half an hour right now on the eagle. What I prep for it. Yeah. No, you don't even have you. You prep for every, in your head, you're in the shower. You literally can't sleep because you're thinking about this dumb stuff about roster machinations. You're in your car.
Starting point is 00:06:36 All you're thinking about. I mean, this is all you think about. Of course you can do 30 minutes. You just need to organize it in your head. What's a question? Pretend you're asking yourself a question. What was the biggest surprise of cut down then you can do five minutes? It's very easy.
Starting point is 00:06:49 You write those bad boys down? You read from a script? What are you doing? I don't read everything, but I have organized notes there. Okay. Yeah. I think they're getting good. Oh, getting good.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Okay. How bad were they before? No, no. They've been very good, but I'm impressed. Thank you. They're very good. Thank you. Appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:07:05 I think that's a tough skill to be the solo guy. Wait for the other shoe to drop here. That's it? Okay. He's making up. Now he feels bad. Now he feels guilty about the strep thing. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:15 All right. Yeah, we'll see how you handle this game that requires you to know what all the questions are as we go along and you have not done that. But that's okay. Before we get. to the game, Zach, a super chat from Jack who asks, do we know who they attempted claims on yet? That has not come out yet, right? Great question, Jack. Don't have that information yet,
Starting point is 00:07:33 but I will work on it for you. But we do know that your boy, Donald Parham, is going elsewhere. For now, to, I believe, the Bucks practice squad? No, I believe the Broncos. Broncos, okay. Broncos, and the Broncos have Joe Lombardy, who's the former OC with the Chargers, so a little connection there. Also, of note,
Starting point is 00:07:51 Jack Triscoll. I saw that. Former Eagle, offensive linemen, valuable, versatile offensive lineman released by the dolphins after making their initial 53 so it would not be surprised to see him come back at all right yeah i mean he's more tackle guard we've been talking more about interior player but certainly from from practice squad perspective he is trusted depth uh shill one more question before we get going yeah any advice for fran you know that's the other my other beef with you i would like to give a little i could have given a video message to fran for the ospreys you know is that you i do remember being part of osprey you know i'm you i do remember being part of
Starting point is 00:08:25 preys shows before, then my good friend Fran joins the show and nothing asked of me. You know, what did you? I know Marissa was on my side with this with the group jazz. So I don't know. I will take it absolutely no. This is completely unfair. You were supposed to come in the day before when we were going to record something. And then you're sick.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Done. That I'm taking you at your word. That you've got strep throat. You weren't taking me for a word. You weren't taking any form of word. Nice. I didn't want to bother you. Can you imagine?
Starting point is 00:08:58 Can you imagine the response from Shield? No, no, no. If he gets a text while he's lying in bed sick, can I record a video for the Ospreys? No. You as if you would not have the world's biggest outrage about that. First of all, that's false. I said, can I do the show remote? We couldn't do the show remote.
Starting point is 00:09:15 I was still potting. I was still working for Fran. I would have been happy to do it. So advice for Fran? No, he doesn't need my advice. I've been, you know, a great feeling in life is. when you feel like that joy for someone else that you know, like, oh, they're getting this chance. They're going to absolutely kill this.
Starting point is 00:09:31 Their life's going. And that's how I feel about this for friends. So, yeah, he doesn't need any of my advice. I thought maybe you'd want to see a little bit more of those muscles. Well, no, I get, yeah, the arms looked good. I told him he was on with Cuzz, a nice black shirt. The hair was looking good. So he's looking great.
Starting point is 00:09:47 And I'm sure we'll see some legs in the, you know. He did when he flashed at Vic Fangio Sox the other day. He gave the, he gave the viewers a little taste of thought. Yeah. I just love how we hired one of the preeminent football minds in the media, someone who is going to flourish here. Yeah, no doubt. A bigger forum can talk about the whole league here. And the first two shows, he comes on after a Whitney Houston rendition, and he has to act out as an assistant.
Starting point is 00:10:11 So he was never actually like Brandianos in his first week here. It's a good introduction to the PHLI Eagles show. I'll say, I can't get enough of you. And also, by the way, go ahead. of ZB role playing because he has 7,000 nuggets about Nick Seriani's life in his head. And every answer, he's like, as I said in 1986 on the highway in Ohio and some what? I don't know this about the guy. And they're all coming out there.
Starting point is 00:10:42 And you're in a very serious tone. So yeah, I do enjoy those. Yeah, I've always thought like if the coaches get a scouting report on the report, You know, so he gets hired and he sits down with the PR staff and they're like, all right, tell me about each of these reporters. And I can only imagine the conversation was. So this guy here was on a podcast last night where he talked about where you and your wife met in Kansas City. And it's like, I haven't met him. Why is he talking about that on the podcast yet?
Starting point is 00:11:10 So, yeah, I probably spooked him out from the beginning. What would your scouting report be? On Zach? No, for you. What do you think? Mine would be bald and Indian probably going to find most of what you said for. Probably not going to be paying much attention. Yeah, mine would be a weird guy who's going to take a lot of offense to insignificant things.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Yeah, I think that's right. It's got us all paid. Another super chat from Andrew who says. This is the greatest. People just paying that. I need to figure out a way to start doing this. I'll give it to charity or something. Every time you read one, I'm like, wait.
Starting point is 00:11:49 So now I can see it. $4.99. The man just took it out of his pocket to ask you to a question. I can't believe it. And the question's about you. He says, Zach, Sheal claims to not be an Eagles fan, even though he's from Philly, but he's to Negedelphia to not be. Grill him for me, please. No, I agree with this.
Starting point is 00:12:08 I mean, this is, I, look, I've had this conversation with my father-in-law for nine years now, 10 years now, is that when you get into this business and you do this job, you are loyal to your work. you're loyal to yourself and you have to kind of remove that now the one thing i'll say is you're not desensitized like like you recognize uh you do a show philus bet now you do a lot of shows but you do a show philly special you you you've written about the eagles before like you you have to have the connection with the fan base and understand the pulse of them but you can't be as emotionally invested in the outcomes as the people you serve yeah nobody believe nobody ever believes it um which i The only person who believes it probably is my wife because the Eagles lose and my mood is not changed at all. It's like, do I, is this podcast going to be good or bad?
Starting point is 00:12:57 Is this column going to be good or bad? But I'm with you. I like that I'm able to understand it. I was in those shoes, friends, family members. So it's not like, oh, these, you know, peasants. It's not like it's beneath me. I do root for other teams. But yeah, that is honestly how it is.
Starting point is 00:13:13 Now, I will say the Negadelphia thing. Yeah, that's, I'm able to relate. and sometimes I would say I probably am harder on the Eagles than other teams, just because you know more about them. You're closer to it, that kind of thing. So I think that's a valid point you make. I just picked up my daughter at the airport right before the show. She's three.
Starting point is 00:13:33 She was flying in with her grandma, and they were telling me the story of on the flight, like the guy that they were sitting next to was talking about like something about the Eagles. And Jane Pipes in just like, oh, my daddy likes the Eagles. and I had to fight so hard to not like correct my daughter. My three-year-old, like, Jane, I don't like the Eagles. That's not the deal. I do that all the time. It's terrible.
Starting point is 00:13:56 I correct read on it, but my son has the jerseys, has like the necklaces. But I've always thought the best combination is to not have, from a reporter's perspective, is to not have that fanaticism, but to understand and like appreciate that fanaticism. So like you're not speaking. at them. Right. Like, you can be among them without kind of having the emotional attachment.
Starting point is 00:14:20 And to be fair, I actually think that this is a question better pose to Fran when he comes on because this is a little bit of a different transition. You know, when you work for the team, you are rooting for the team. You're in the building with all these people. And not for nothing.
Starting point is 00:14:32 If they win a Super Bowl, you get a ring, right? So you're part of it, right? So now that he is, he's not there, we should unpack that at some point.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Yeah, I mean, I don't think he, like, I don't think there's anything wrong with him. Like, you don't have to change to do the job. Of course not.
Starting point is 00:14:45 Right. Okay. All right. I guess we can finally get to the game, unless we have more super chats. All right. Quail to the victories. Here's the idea.
Starting point is 00:14:52 I have set up 10 different questions that all three of us have to answer. They're either, you know, either oars or yes or knows. But then we also have to assign each of our answers confidence points from 1 to 10. And at the end of the season, we will tally it up and see who came out on top. The first question about the quarterback, will Jalen Hertz, finish in the top six in MVP voting this season last year, unranked, out of 10 people. In 2022, he finished second out of 15 people who ended up getting votes. Where do you stay in Shield?
Starting point is 00:15:30 What are your expectations for the Gieland Heardt season? So I have 10 confident. Only one thing can get a 10, and that's my most confident. But I didn't read the questions before, so I don't know what to assign a 10. Okay. So I'll just ask you decide, then my more or less confident. And now you said top six? Top six.
Starting point is 00:15:45 And how many people can get an MVP as many people as possible? It's now you vote for five. Okay. So last year, there were 10 people who ended up getting votes. In 2022, there were 15 people who ended up getting votes. Now, how did you choose six? It felt like an okay middle ground. It's basically top five quarterbacks usually.
Starting point is 00:16:04 Okay. Yeah, I mean, I've been pretty consistent. I've had a very hard time probably my entire life. This, I don't remember not having a feel for, what I think the team's going to do this close to the season like I do this year. Ultimately, I think Jalen Hertz is going to have a good season. All the pieces around him are in place. And if you look at MVP historically, it's like quarterback for one of the top two teams in each
Starting point is 00:16:28 conference. And I think the Eagles have a chance to be that. I don't know that they're going to be. So top six, I feel like it is pretty achievable for him among the quarterback. So I will say yes to that. And I will assign it a confidence. rating of six. We'll keep with the theme.
Starting point is 00:16:46 Wait, did I misinterpret? Here we go again. Here we go again. What do you know? I thought we're ranking one to ten. Yeah. So he's giving it a six. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:56 So he's giving it a six. He doesn't know the questions that are to come. He's just blindly ranking. Oh, gotcha. That was too much work. No, so I did understand.
Starting point is 00:17:05 You did understand it. Okay, because you can't be six for every. So, okay. You're not giving what your confidence rating is. You're giving it where you rank it among the 10 of your of how confident you are you can use each number once no oh no no yeah so the thing you're most confident about is a 10 yeah you have to answer every question i did yes and then assign it how how one to 10 how confident you are of your answer so it's not just the idea that jalen hurts
Starting point is 00:17:30 finishes in the top six it's your how confident you are in the answer of yes or no yeah but each one so so so of these 10 questions one gets one one gets correct all right so i do have it correct Okay, all right. Yeah, all right. I want to make sure. Okay. This is what it's all about. I mean, to me, the rules discussion, that's the height of the show.
Starting point is 00:17:53 So, Judge John Perth's finish the top six in MVP voting. I'm going yes on this. And I'm going yes on this because I think the Eagles are going to be one of the top six teams in the NFL. I think they're going to be one of the better teams in the NFL. And he's the quarterback of the team. I think as long as he's healthy, he's going to have a really good year. I've been on record saying this that the skill position players
Starting point is 00:18:13 are as good as they've been I can speak from historical context of 25 years at the Eagles because I have a book coming out next month on I think you can go ever in franchise history yeah so I think they
Starting point is 00:18:26 terrific skill position players could you imagine if we had that that teleportation device that got Tom Coughlin here yesterday if we were able to teleport AJ Brown and Devante Smith to the 1960 Eagles how insane that would be
Starting point is 00:18:38 I think if you tell outboard of them to the 2002 Eagles. I don't say that would be because that team was loaded and they didn't have wide receivers. Also, you don't want to be playing wide receiver for those nights. I mean, your life is going to be worse. Yeah, so. I mean, in many ways. You might die.
Starting point is 00:18:54 So, yeah, many ways, actually. If Jamon stays healthy, if Joe stays healthy, I really like, you know, I like him with these skill players. They have to stay healthy in front of him on the offensive line. But I'm, I was impressed with him this camp. I think he's going to have a good. I think he's a good year. I'm not saying he's going to be MVP,
Starting point is 00:19:12 but I think top six is certainly achievable. And I gave this seven out of the 10. I do think from now on, since Zach gave his answers to Julia ahead of time, let's save Zach's answers for last. And then you and I will guess how well we know, Zach, which one he bet on. Wow.
Starting point is 00:19:31 It's a day of audibles. This is a side game. Okay. Yeah. So I'm going yes here, but I'm a little bit less confident than you guys. I don't. I'm not 100 percent.
Starting point is 00:19:39 on board with like Jalen's going to like the league on fire this year. I think there are a lot of moving parts in the offense. I think the handling the pre-snap responsibility stuff is something that needs to be proven before we see it. We're going to get to the Blitz conversation but they have to prove that they can answer that.
Starting point is 00:19:56 And I'm a little bit on the same page with you, Sheel, about how you've been talking about this offensive line. I'm not 100% sure that the offensive line's going to be good. I mean, they should be, but they got to go out and prove that as well. And I was thinking about Jalen, Zach, you know, we always talk about the best game of his life was that Super Bowl game, right?
Starting point is 00:20:16 Sure. And we also talked that week about that week we had never seen him so loose. Yes, you're right. Right? Like, it was different than we had ever seen him before. Yeah. And he went out and played this amazing game. Like, I don't know, maybe there was a lesson there for Jalen Hertz.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Maybe he doesn't have to be so tightly wound all the time. Do you want to tell him that? Yeah, I'm sure he would, I'm sure he would respond very well to that. Yeah. Yeah, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's actually something that he should hear, perhaps take the heart. He's been looser this summer, but everyone's kind of, everyone's kind of loose in the summer. And you don't know how much of it too is like intentional. Everything with him's intentional, but right, you know, they, they tell him smile more, you know, lighten up a bit.
Starting point is 00:21:02 We'll see. We'll see what happens during the year. You know, there was a, an Anscape story feature that, uh, that I, you know, that I, I read yesterday. I apologize. I don't have the author's name on the top of my head, but nice job on that piece.
Starting point is 00:21:16 And, you know, he kind of talked about what his personality is like going into the year. So you can check that out, and I imagine there are going to be more pieces you can read on that topic. Martensi Johnson. Thank you. Maybe Nick could tell him,
Starting point is 00:21:28 loosen up a little bit. Yeah. I mean, what else is doing, right? Ouch. Before we keep going, let's talk about our friends, as I pull this up, If I can find the tab.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Zach, you want me to take it? If you don't mind. Okay, let me pull up. Need me to do 30 on the O-L-L-L-L-A or something? Okay, so we are Wednesday here. And the first thing I want to talk about is our friends. I want to talk about our friends at Bet-365.

Starting point is 00:25:15 super chats can you go over the rules what is he team ccc if someone's giving you money for something they want to for a service except the money and do the service thank you for the eagle eye uh jason he wants to know the rules in the game one more time uh so here's the rules is that and shield. I have 10 questions. You answer them and then you rank them one to 10 in your order of confidence. Got it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:25:39 Next up, let's talk about the Blitz. Will the Eagles finish in the top 10 in EPA per dropback against the blitz this season? For context, last year, they were blitzed at the third highest rate in the league and finished 17th in EPA per drop pack against the blitz in 2022. they finished 11th, despite being blitzed, or with being blitz at the fourth highest rate. Kellyn Moore, though, was 10th against the blitz in 2023, third against the blitz in 2022, and 11 against the blitz in Dallas in 2021. I know you had the long, deep dive podcast on Kellynne Moore with Sean Salliade, which everybody should listen to.
Starting point is 00:26:20 How do you feel, how confident do you feel that the Eagles have solved their issues against the blitz? I'm sure you don't want to go success rate on this bad boy. Yeah, I mean, it's too late now, but... Okay. Probably better. I'm not confident, no, going back to what you pointed out with the offensive line questions. And it's a totally different operation this year than it's been in the past with Jason Kelsey getting then set up. And now it's Jalen Hertz and Cam Juergens.
Starting point is 00:26:46 In addition to getting the protection set, it's do we have a motion on this play. All right, motion, snap the ball in time so that we don't get a penalty. There's a lot of moving parts. I think it could be pretty ugly in the beginning of the season. I think the hope would be by the time you get. get to week seven, week eight, you're like, all right, I feel more comfortable here with this. But we have to see. I mean, we're going to get a lot of answers on Jalen Hertz this year.
Starting point is 00:27:10 You mentioned Kellyn Moore has coordinated top level offenses before. Callen Moore's quarterbacks have been very good against the Blitz before. Like they've done all these different things. So now this year, if we're saying Jailen Hertz isn't throwing the ball over the middle, Jalen Hertz is bad against the Blitz. We're going to know other variables to play, but we're going to know that's on Jail and Hertz. I would say slight improvement. I don't think it's going to look as ugly as it did last year
Starting point is 00:27:34 where it was just like, what are they doing? I think they'll have more answers to get to their hot routes with this offense than they did last year. But I'm a no. What was it? Top what? Top 10. Yeah, I'm going to be a no on that.
Starting point is 00:27:47 And I feel like I feel a little bit more confident than the last one in this one. So I'm going to give this. A top 10 is hard. I know you gave the numbers and they're not as bad, but there's some variance with the EPA. stuff. So I'm going to give this a eight for my confidence level. I'm also giving this a no, and I'm giving it a six. And I don't want to overvalue what we saw this summer. But I think when we did see Jalen Hertz and the offense struggle, it was against
Starting point is 00:28:19 the blitz. It happened in New England. You were watching that day, Zach, and it happened a couple times as that week went on against, you know, Vic Fangio. And I do think that this is a real question that they have to answer. I also think, I mean, they're going to get blitzed a ton. It's, you know, it was in the Sando quarterback tiers thing, right? Like, they're going to make them prove that they can beat this. I think they're actually going to look okay, like week one, because you have so much time to prepare for week one. It's like once you get into the flow of the season, week two, week three, week four, when you're not, you don't have time for like a special game plan. How do they perform? I think that is when you might see some growing pains.
Starting point is 00:28:55 All right. So we have to now choose Zach's. Is that what you? I'm going to guess that Zach says yes. yes no i have got zach as a no but i don't think he feels that confident about it i'm gonna have him as a you can't change zach by the way joy i've got i've got zach as a no four i've got zach as a yes too wow uh it is no two oh okay split the difference okay that's pretty good i'll take that i have a harder time i i i don't think the
Starting point is 00:29:29 are going to be great against the blitz this year. I have a harder time giving confidence levels when the other, when the variables of the other teams in the league are involved because I don't know how other teams are going to do against the blitz. I have a better, you know, there's the next question, for instance, I have more confidence in my answer
Starting point is 00:29:45 because it's not variable based on the other teams. What do you mean? Every variable is going to be, they play another team every week. I understand what he is. The next one is like a Sequin yards from screen between. I remember. It's just work.
Starting point is 00:29:57 So that's continuing. you that's funny by the way you you mentioned jason kelsey about this 100 million dollars for the pod i just want to give credit to you guys like seven years ago you guys start a podcast okay you're upstairs you're upstairs in the in the eagles media house i'm sorry i don't believe that this is we deserve credit here and now i'm sitting here with you two we're talking to my computer by myself we're making 499 a comment what's you're talking about that's good money well i know it is but you guys had had the foresight like this is where things are going. Do you think if you went up the Jason Kelsey seven years ago and you're like,
Starting point is 00:30:34 do you want to come on birds with friends? He'd be like, sure, yeah. Like he probably didn't know this is going to be. No, he would have done it. We probably should have done that. We should have good for our career. That job by us. I'm saying my point is there's going to be a generation of fans.
Starting point is 00:30:47 It's going to be like John Madden or Charles Barkley where like they won't know this guy as this all pro center. They'll know this guy as like this media sensation. A hundred million dollars now. It's not an all for him, but it shows you what this pod's done. Well, I have told this story before. It's not quite as successful, but with Chris Long. Chris Long had said, like, entering what ended up being his last season that he's thinking
Starting point is 00:31:10 he wants to do a podcast afterwards. And I went up to him. I was like, you know, like, I think, like, if you want, like, you know, we could, maybe we could be athletic, like, we could do something together. Like, you know, he's like, oh, like, I think I've already got something lined up. Thanks. He was very nice about it. And then it becomes a big thing.
Starting point is 00:31:23 Like, I probably would have done the same thing with Kelsey if he had made the same announcement. It would have been just as short-sighted. Yeah, he figured it out pretty well. Did not need my help. No, but perhaps all those questions that he had from you prepare him mentally for this. Perhaps not as well. Okay, well, speaking of Zach's encyclopedic memory of Nick Siriani's history, we do have a super chat asking him about his Chargers days, Zach. Where do we got it?
Starting point is 00:31:50 Chase, Daniel Plainview, wants to know, do you know why Nick was moved from quarterback's coach to wide receivers coach with the Chargers? was he able to talk one-on-one with Phil Rivers, or was that relationship strained? No, it was not about Phil Rivers. Him and Philip had a good relationship, actually. So there are a few things there. There are some changes in the coaching staff. But Shane Steichen was this real promising offensive quality control coach, I believe they had at the time. Or maybe he was coming to the charges.
Starting point is 00:32:17 But anyway, Shane Steichen, they wanted Shane Steichen that worked with the quarterbacks at the time. I believe that's what it was. Nick's area of expertise was wide receivers, so he kind of got moved from quarterbacks. the wide receivers. At that point, I don't think it was necessarily because of Nick, I think there were some changes in the coaching staff. They were bringing in Shane Steichen at the time. I think that's what resulted in it. A matter of fact, but he does love Phil Rivers. Oh, yeah, big time. When Eagles hired Nick, I called up Kellyn Clemens, who was the Chargers back of quarterback at the time. And he,
Starting point is 00:32:47 he spoke a lot about their quarterback room and the relationship that they had. Zach Alec, Super Chat also wants to know if we can get a Zach Trave-Log video for your trip to Brazil. Yeah, I appreciate this, Alec. I am, I was actually writing down some ideas last night of how I can do some things to get you, uh, to show fans Brazil. I'm going to do that. No, no, no, no. People want you in Brazil. Nobody wants to see the sites. I want to see random stuff. I want to see you walking to get a meal. I want to see you like, so this is right. Here's the problem. I know the better. The better. The better. The better.
Starting point is 00:33:25 That's what's going to bring those super chats. I know, Zach, that you are nervous to expand beyond the bounds of, like, the media hotel and, that's not true. Yeah. No, I love traveling. I love traveling. The thing is, from my understanding, okay, traffic's really bad in South Palo. There's not going to be a lot of, so Thursday, I'm going to Eagles practice, and it's like, it's going to be like two hours. two and a half hours I get to the state. So I'm in a shuttle bus and at the stadium a lot of the day.
Starting point is 00:33:59 So I told Anthony this morning, I'm going to go, instead of doing the hits from my hotel room, I'm going to go outside. I've done a lot of research on South Powell. I'm excited to explore, to see as much as I can during the time frame there. Although in terms of the travel, the one, like, literally the one thing that every website I've gone to has said is don't hold your phone out. Okay. I don't know if this is something that I should take the heart, pose bro. And you were just in Brazil. But it's like, you know, it's like blend in. Don't be holding up your phone because that's like the easiest thing to get pickpocketed in theory. I want you in the hotel room doing, styling your hair and giving an Eagles take.
Starting point is 00:34:41 That will be the most viewed thing you do. This isn't a joke. I do. I'm serious right now. That's the type of thing you should be doing. I do want to do some more stuff on the road to try to, you know, I don't want to say personality driven. Yeah. The people want you.
Starting point is 00:34:54 seeds, but I certainly don't think they need to see me styling my hair. I would like to. My fellow balds would probably like to live vicariously for you. I think it's a great idea. Yeah. Okay. All right, let's talk Saquan Barclay. Expectations for Saquan Barclay this season. The question posed here is, does Saquan Barclay have more yards from scrimmage this season
Starting point is 00:35:14 than any Eagles running back since LaShawn McCoy? Now, the mark there is Miles Sanders in 2022, 1,347. That is a mark that Saquan has. beat in three of his six seasons. Do you think he's going to do it with a better Eagles supporting cast? What was it 1357? 1347. 1347.
Starting point is 00:35:35 1347. From scrimmage. So the over under is 1,000.5 rushing yards for Sequin Parkley this season. I expect him to be in that 300 range for receiving yards. And so if you add those two together, I mean, there is real big time upside where he's like got this in the bag. I'm feeling good today. I will take the over. Oh, so I'm basically saying yards from scrimmage over 1347. Yes. I will take the over. Have you written down what I've used so far? Six and eight. Six and eight. Boy, I'm coming in confident today. Be it next to you guys.
Starting point is 00:36:12 I'll give this one. I feel pretty good about it. Give it a five. Okay. Not great. Feel good. I also have a five here and I'm going no. And I'm just betting against. Health or running backs? Yes. And I was thinking about this. How do we all feel about the Cowboys signing Dalvin Cook? Right? Oh, no, not Delvin Cook.
Starting point is 00:36:35 Like, you know, he's already watched. Dalvin Cook came into the league one year before Sequin and Barclay. And everybody already thinks that he's washed. So like this emergency signing for their terrible backfield, that's by service time, Sequin next season, that when the Eagles are paying him $12 million or whatever it is, right? And Dalvin Cook had a more productive first six years of his career than Sequin did. So, like, I mean, I like what I've seen from Sequin.
Starting point is 00:37:02 I think the passing game value is real. But I think you and I sort of agree about this show that we're a little bit skeptical, that it will end up being super voluminous. I think if Sequin stays healthy, I think he tops this mark pretty easily. But I'm just betting against, it's not fun to do it. but the idea that he's going to stay healthy for 17 games, it's just not a great track record. Well, I think that the point, yes,
Starting point is 00:37:30 about a running back going into their seventh season, you're not getting the best of them, and there is risk, that's valid. I mean, Delvin Cook says it sucked the last two years. Saquin Barclay has not sucked. The market spoke on each of these players. One guy gets paid $12 million, the other guys available in August.
Starting point is 00:37:44 And that would have been Seekon last year. Or no, two years ago. It's too confusing. All right. We got a guess for Zach. Zach's going over and he's going like this is not his nine or ten. Zach's going over. What is Zach used so far?
Starting point is 00:37:57 He's used seven and two. Eight. Zach over eight. First off. Let's get the reveal. Let's get the visual reveal. Oh. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:08 Yes. And nine over nine. Yeah. So I'm not going to like have confidence that someone's going to get injured. Okay. Sure. And barring injury, I think this is a clear yes. I think that the Eagles.
Starting point is 00:38:20 are going to use Sakewan quite a bit. I don't think they're paying him $13 million to be a role player. I think they're paying him $13 million a year to be a featured back. The volume is going to be present. I think that, you know, I don't think the change in offensive line necessarily is like the big difference here, but I just think that there's going to be less of a focus from defenses on him. When you're facing that Giants offense in past years, it was all about stopping Sakewan.
Starting point is 00:38:47 It's not going to be all about stopping Sakewan this year. I think he is going to have a role in the passing game. Now it's going to be incumbent upon Jalen to incorporate him. But, you know, I think it's probably going to be made clear that you have Sequin Barclay. So 1347 is certainly achievable. And I feel confident in this one. So I'm going yes. All right.
Starting point is 00:39:05 Let's get through one more before the next ad read. This is a one versus two in receiving yards. A.J. Brown, who has more receiving yards, AJ Brown or the combination of Devante Smith and Will Shipley. Now, two years ago, A.J. Brown had 300 more receiving yards than Devante Smith. Last year, it was 390 more yards than Devante Smith. But maybe Devante is closing that gap a little bit. Can Will Shipley help make it up? What do you think, Zach? I mean, Sheal. I don't think Will Shipley is going to factor much into my... I'll do it. I like what I saw from him in the preseason, but I don't think he's going to factor too much. If I'm predicting Saquan Barkley, he'd have 300 receiving yards, then Will Shipley is. going to be below that. I don't think it's crazy to take a Devante Smith over AJ Brown this year type of type. I mean, it's not the more likely one, but A.J. Brown misses a couple games.
Starting point is 00:40:00 Yeah, I think it's injury dependent, though. I mean, a little bit. I think there's a chance. I cannot imagine. They play the same amount of games. It's not likely. Devante has more received games. Okay.
Starting point is 00:40:10 Yes, I'm going to take AJ Brown over Devante Smith and Will Shipley there. And I will give it, give me my, sorry, give him my. my numbers again. 685 is what you've used. 6, 8, 5. Is this a 7, 9, or 10? I mean, AJ Brown's a beast. A.J. Brown, let's give it the 7.
Starting point is 00:40:29 I'll give it the 7. I'm giving this AJ Brown, and I'm, this is my 10. Yeah, I should have probably gone higher. Okay. What do we think about that? Now, he creates the questions. Is that any sort of, I don't know. Is that okay?
Starting point is 00:40:42 No, I would feel it. I know it's a contest. Yeah, I'm six years into this now. I just kind of, it's like you pick your back. It is difficult if you haven't looked at the questions ahead of the show. I can confirm. I did that. I'm going to guess that Zach, I think he actually is going to A.J. Brown here and I think it's going to be, I'm going to say it's six.
Starting point is 00:41:01 Six. I don't know. He loves AJ, but this is, I really like the visual here, like getting to see Zach's poker face. He has eight and ten left, right? He does. I'm going to make this an eight for Zeeve for for AJ Brown. Well, I want it. AJ four. Oh, fading A.J. Brown. Interesting take. I'm not fading A.J. Brown here.
Starting point is 00:41:23 I mean, you'll see the other six questions, and you'll see where I put my money, right? Plus, I mean, you said, down on AJ's. You talk about Will Shipley's camp. What about his sophomore year, Phil McClemson? I'm impressed for you by that. How about his junior year film? Well, I mean, do we want to have that Kate Klubnick conversation? We're already on.
Starting point is 00:41:43 I definitely did not. We're already on a two-hour pace here for the show. Although I'm kind of I'm feeling a little Clemson bug this year in the ACC. I got to tell you that. I do a thing with my friends where you draft teams and there's a scoring system. And Clemson's one of the teams that I drafted.

So when I'm in Brazil, you know, and I'm out having hopefully a steak dinner, and I was watching Anthony's show today, and Baldi recommended a Capriena.
Starting point is 00:43:38 Is that what it's called? Kaeparina. A caprina. but what I also know is that when you're hanging out with your friends, the drink you want to have is an ice cold Miller light, right? Because a lot's changed over the years. One thing that hasn't is the great taste of Miller Light. Another thing that's not changed is that it's less filling.
Starting point is 00:43:57 So what is the best thing about the original light beer? Miller Light sparked this debate in 1975 and they still haven't settled it. That's because it's the great taste and it's less filling. But you don't have to choose because Miller Light keeps the sense. They have undebatable quality. Great taste, only 96 calories. It's the beer that strips away everything you don't need and holds on to what matters. Most, a light beer that tastes like beer, less filling, and only 96 calories. The original light beer, since 1975, you don't need to choose what's best. Miller Light has great taste and is less filling. Tests like Miller Time. Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 96 calories per 12 ounces, fewer cows and carbs. then premium regular beer. All right, we got six more questions,
Starting point is 00:44:43 but, Sheila, we have some breaking Eagles news I need your take on. The Eagles, according to Adam Kaplan, have signed Jack Stoll to the practice squad. Okay. We already went over this.
Starting point is 00:44:55 Just seeing where your thoughts are. Yeah, because smart. Jalen Trusson. No brainer. Oh, Jack Stoll, I was thinking Jack Dress call. I was wondering what the hard sell there was. Jack Stoll, fine.
Starting point is 00:45:12 I mean, they're very thin. They're very thin at like, you know, wide receiver and tight end and offensive lines. So, yeah, this would be a bad ear. Yeah, no, Jack Stoll doesn't move the needle, but probably their second best, why practice squad? Isn't he their second best tight end?
Starting point is 00:45:28 I don't think so. Like Grand Calcutera? Grand Calcutera has like three catches in two years. What everyone thinks is? Yeah, how many things stole has? But they played stole over him, did they not? And I think that was a mistake. Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:38 Again, it's their different types of players. Stoll is a blocking tight end. That's the, I understand. What is this? Thank you. Wait, tight ends plating to you. Is that offensive defense? Not every conversation is mansplating.
Starting point is 00:45:54 It's simply it's providing it. I understand Calcutara hasn't done either of them. Actually, there are different types of tight ends. Well, yeah. So you're talking about why Jack Stoll is playing over Grant Calcutera. It's because of the value he provides in the running game. No, no. It's because of their perceived value of what he provides in the renegade.
Starting point is 00:46:13 Sure. It's kind of like shield being sick, right? Yes, I get it. All right. Will the Eagles finish in the top five in offensive DVA? Big picture question. Last year they were 10th. In 2022, they were 3rd.
Starting point is 00:46:25 In 2021, they were 11th. Season hinges on this. Yeah, I had him at 8th in my rankings on the ringer.com, which everyone can read. But obviously there's variance there. I see the ceiling. I see the path to top five for sure. I don't, you know what, I'm going to give this a low. I'm going to say yes to appease the crowd,
Starting point is 00:46:47 but this is going to be my number two, which I think I have available. Our numbers are simpatico. I'm a two here as well, but I'm going no. I'll be the negative Nelson. Yeah, I just, top five is, it's a tough bar to reach. Yeah. I think if they're, if they are top five, I think they should be getting a buy in the NFC.
Starting point is 00:47:10 They should, they should be winning the division and a top two team in the UFC. And if not, then they're fighting for the division or worse. Only one team gets a buy, though. Yeah, that's true. This guy's full of football. Sorry, I don't mean a man's playing. No, that one we actually needed. Neither of us realized that.
Starting point is 00:47:28 That was, you read the room right there. I was like, yeah, bye. And then you said that. I'm like, oh, that is true. It's true. Because I was like they can have a top five offense It also comes into play in the end later in the other things Because it's like they got a top five offense but San Francisco and yeah
Starting point is 00:47:44 Detroit can be really good as well how about that yeah All right I'm gonna say that Zach I mean I'm gonna say Zach is similar to you on this one chile I think he goes yes but it's a two Oh um Zach Top five yes what does he have left I just look at one three five one three Yeah, 10. You just say he's going to be a two, though.
Starting point is 00:48:08 Yeah, one, two. Oh, yeah, he has already used two. So, yeah, I'm going to say this is his three. I'm going to say this is one. But he says yes. All right. What do we got? You get 10?
Starting point is 00:48:16 You're killing AJ Brown. Yeah. I was just puffer. This is the one year, and you read the questions before. Yeah. This is the one you're most confident in. Yeah, that they're going to have top five offense. I think they're going to have a top five offense.
Starting point is 00:48:35 Okay. What were they two years ago? Third, two. Okay. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think they have more talent than they had two years ago. I think, uh, 10.
Starting point is 00:48:48 Yeah, I think they're a good offense. I think this is a really good offense. We know good, but top five is top five. I think that's, that's happened twice since when, under Doug Peterson and Nick Siriani. Yeah, 2017. So it's rare to have top five. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:04 I hear you there. I mean. If you're ranking, well, I know you did this on the ringer, where did you have the Eagles ranked among offenses in the league? He said it about three minutes ago. Exactly. That's what I'm saying. No, he was actually asking, right? He wasn't listening before when I just said it.
Starting point is 00:49:30 I was actually trying to find the Eagles practice squad. I don't have to play it off. I have reporting on this team right now. Now. We got the show. We got on the show. Wow. Ouch.
Starting point is 00:49:45 Oh, my God. Yeah. I think they're going to have a top five offense. I was looking up to Eagles practice squad. I think they're going to top five offense. They have the six easiest schedule on the league. All right. We've still got five more to get in.
Starting point is 00:49:55 You got a signed Jack Royer. E.J. You can just steal what a chat person said and passed it on his own. Come on, a little attribution. Thank you, Jack Royer. They have the six easiest schedule on the other. All right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:50:06 All right. Let's talk defense. Jalen Carter. does Jalen Carter But the O'DA does take Strength of Schedule into a Cal He says Jack Royer
Starting point is 00:50:15 We're excited to have Jack Royer on the show tomorrow joining Fran and me for the annual spread your wins and fly draft Jaylen Carter Does Jalen Carter make the initial NFC Pro Bowl roster Last year, the three guys who made it
Starting point is 00:50:31 This is a three-person deal Aaron Donald who's gone Dexter Lawrence and Javon Hargrave Does Jalen Carter, will he have the big breakout season and be a pro bowler right away? Yes, 10. I'm yes, nine. So we are, we are sympathetico. I think what I have seen from Jailen Carter this summer, as long as he doesn't get hurt, I will be, I will be pretty shocked.
Starting point is 00:50:53 If he does not hit this, I think he could be a beast. I think he's going to be a beast. If this was all pro, I would have considered. I really think he's going to be one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL. You mentioned it. Aaron Donald's gone. I mean, who direction? rather have Javon Hargrave or Jalen Carter this year?
Starting point is 00:51:09 I don't know. I think I'd read the arrows pointing up on Jalen Carter. So, yeah, I feel good that I saved my 10. When as soon as you read that out, I'm like, this is the one. Oh, I think Zach's going, uh, I think Zach's going yes, eight. Zach is, well, Jack Royer, what is Zach going to do? Uh, I will go. I'm not, I'm just going to go Zach eight because I don't want to ask you again what he has last.
Starting point is 00:51:39 No one. Wow. Yeah. Okay. If you're saying no, I get, you know, that's, that's. Yeah. So, uh, based on my history covering this, players don't often get recognized for the pro bowl the year they bust out.
Starting point is 00:51:54 Um, this is another, this is another little, uh, football spleen we got going on. Fletcher Cox, you know, the first year he made the pro bowl? No. 2015. Okay. He had a great year in 2014. He had a great year in 2013. or he had a real good year in 2013, great year in 2014,
Starting point is 00:52:10 made the Pro Bowl. You know, it took him a year. Jason Kelsey, the 2014 season was when he made the Pro Bowl. He would tell you he was better the year before. It sometimes, you know, you have that end. This is what Kelsey said to me. This is what Fletcher Cox has said to me. Like, you have that year where you get on the radar
Starting point is 00:52:28 and then you're recognized the next year. So you have guys in the NFC like Dexter Lawrence. You have guys in the Interacy like Derek Brown who, uh, boy i mean the money talks right um so i think that it's not just a given that he's going to be a pro baller because he's going to that is true but i think i think he this is a player who was already in the national zeitgeist people are expecting things from uh like he was considered the best player in the draft for for uh different reasons i think also like the just the media surrounding
Starting point is 00:53:00 the eagles is enough that if he's having this kind of season it'll be talked about enough that he gets there. Two defensive tackles as rookies in the last 10 years had more sacks than Jalen Carter had last year. So yeah, I agree. He's already on the radar. All right. Next up, we have a little trios match for who's
Starting point is 00:53:18 going to have more sacks. Which of these troikas ends up with more sacks? Nolan Smith, who had one last year, Josh Swett, who had six and a half, and Jordan Davis, who had two and a half. That's a total of 10. Or
Starting point is 00:53:34 the trio of Brandon Graham who had three last year, Bryce Huff, who had 10, and Milton Williams who had a half for a 13 and a half total Nolan Smith, Josh Schwett, and Jordan Davis versus Brandon Graham, Bryce Huff, and Milton Williams, who you got Shield. What size font are you using?
Starting point is 00:53:51 Can't even read it. What numbers do I have left? And I got good vision, too. One, three, four, and nine. Okay. I'm going to make this my nine and go with the Huff, Graham Milton Williams trio. Disappointing that you and I are
Starting point is 00:54:08 closely aligned here. I'm going with the same trio as an eight. I think that Bryceoff people might be pleasantly surprised by what Bryce up does this season. I think I've liked the arc of his summer and just him getting more snaps. I think there's a chance that he is very productive. Do we think that Zach's going sweaty? Annie's Jordan Davis guy. Yep.
Starting point is 00:54:31 Yeah. Hates Milton Williams. So I think he's going with that. Yes, and he famously predicted the Nolan Smith pick. So I think that's easy. I'm going sweaty. And I think this is like a three. This is a low. Three and five available.
Starting point is 00:54:42 Three and five. Yeah, three sounds right. Three and that grouping. Wow. And an eight. He goes with the others and goes with an eight. Every time he's a chance to put his money where his mouth is. Wow.
Starting point is 00:54:56 Four surprises. Yeah, I mean, I think Milton Williams is better aligned. to have sacks than Jordan Davis. Okay. I think that I like Joshua what a lot, but Josh Swett's really carrying the work here. And we need to see it from Nolan Smith. Brandon Graham, he'll be used in, you know, third down situations. And he's been able to get to the quarterback later on in his career.
Starting point is 00:55:23 So I like that trio more than the other trio in terms of getting sacks. Now in terms of having impact on the game, that's a different question. Okay. Olivia Reiner with a report according to the chat. Tyrian Davis Price is at practice. So therefore must be able to practice. There you go. I would call out the pre,
Starting point is 00:55:41 you know, they're taking their time. Well, I saw a couple ones. Mike Y, but also Scott G. Okay. Good job by them. We appreciate the Sycos.
Starting point is 00:55:50 Yeah, nice job. Okay, Quinion Mitchell. Is Quinnian Mitchell by the end of the season, the Eagles best cornerback? And this is up to the sole discretion of Fran Duffy. By season's end. By season's end is Quinyon Mitchell
Starting point is 00:56:09 the Eagles best corner. So when will you be asking him this question? At the end of the season. Regular season or season? Whenever the season ends. When their last game is played. Yes. And they hoist the Lombardi and France trying to work.
Starting point is 00:56:21 Fran! Yeah. That's how we'll open the post game show. Probably actually, yeah. Congratulations to Philadelphia Eagles. Fran. I'm going to you first. Is Quinyon the Eagles best corner? I'll go yes on this.
Starting point is 00:56:34 What do I got? Let's see. You have one, three, and nine. Really? I haven't used nine yet? You sure you didn't screw that on? No, one three and four. Unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:56:46 This isn't going to be. Somebody back check him. You just used nine. I'll go one on this. Yeah, I don't feel strongly about it, but he's got a chance. So I have high expectations for Quinyon Mitchell, but then I check myself because it's a rookie cornerback and typically those guys don't come in and they're not the best cornerback on their team. Yeah, I think if you would ask me this before training camp started, I would have said definitely not.
Starting point is 00:57:11 Those are way too high expectations for a rookie corner. Maybe I am fooled by what I've seen so far, but my answer here is yes. And I just, I love what I've seen from him so far. There's also, you know, Slay is 33. Those other guys haven't proven necessarily that they belong as consideration for the best starter. So I have I had yes and I have four. By the way, in the chat, a couple people to your point are saying that, oh, Brandon Smith on the practice squad too, according to E.J. Smith. Yeah, nice.
Starting point is 00:57:41 According to Bowulf, Brandon Smith, that's right. On the practice squad. How about the kickoff? Brandon Smith is a, Jacob Harris, the poor guy, gets a concussion. I thought the whole point of the kickoff would make it safer. The guy breaks his face and gets a concussion and breaks his face all over. Because people thought we needed to be more entertained by the kickoff. I mean, give me a break.
Starting point is 00:58:05 Just kicking in the end. Touchback. It's okay. All right. Feel for Jacob Harris. Absolutely. Yeah. I'm having a hard time right now.
Starting point is 00:58:14 Why? I mean, seeing all these reports. No, no, no. I thought I needed to go. Take a break. This is kind of, this is what's eating you up is that you don't get to be out of practice and be the first one to tweet that so and so is here. This is kind of, this is like, it's like when I was in.
Starting point is 00:58:29 high school and like I get to school on Monday and I found out Joy was at a party on Saturday and it's like uh like I mean I was watching like the Sixers Bucks game you know but my God I mean this is the place to be is that's right they're reporting everything
Starting point is 00:58:45 and reporting everything and I'm here getting my uh my butt handed me about the the picks that I have here I'm just saying I I don't know what like I tell my wife like you know she features like she experiences FOMO I'm not a big FOMO guy but now I know what she feels like you're not a big FOMO
Starting point is 00:59:04 Yeah but I feel like this is happening this happens all the time with you well I'm saying like I don't Like say like oh I wish I could go to this triple date on that Ben Van Sumer over me just your priorities Yeah that's that's a FOMO guy about work yes about work yeah for sure um but yeah I'm feeling I mean listen I'm I'm I if I was at practice I'd be doing the same thing and I'd be I'd be like excited to be the first one to spot uh you know Andre Sam or whatever it was but these are eventualities. Oh, so they're out watching practice. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:33 That's how they're telling. Yeah, yeah. They're just saying who they see. There's practice going on right now. And I'm here. Yeah. Well, do you want to leave? No, no, I mean, I can't get there.
Starting point is 00:59:41 I can't get there. Become a diehard so you can help support the man who has this unhealthy obsession with this job, which is good. But, I mean, you know. This is my job, this job, this is your job. Yes. I think that Zach is going no for Quinyon and it's a three. sure yeah
Starting point is 01:00:01 this kind of lost it's luster for me yeah this is at this whole discretion of fran so i'm thinking fran's gonna say yes wow he's you're saying he's not going to be objective i'm not saying it's not going to be objective i'm saying i think i know fran's taste and i think fran's going to say yes i think i think fran might go with that more than because like i think quinionette mitchell's going to have more of like the film grinder
Starting point is 01:00:25 appreciation season is it might be like you know Slay has a big play here or there, right? But you say, well, what's really happening here is if you're watching the film, Quina, Mitchell is locking down this guy. So they're actually throwing the Slay's side more than they would in past year. So I think from Fran's perspective, this will be a Quignon. Do we need to read a super chat that's not very nice?
Starting point is 01:00:47 No, fix your posture. Yeah, he's right. I should. This is important. Posture is really important. I'm very uncomfortable just sitting. I never sit like that. You're standing.
Starting point is 01:00:57 The only time I sit is if I'm like watching a watching TV or something. Not having the feet up and I mean who like this is good. You like this? Yeah. No, I would much rather. Next time, raise it up. I want to stand in between you too. Yeah, we have a, there's a story coming out next week on all p.gloi.com.
Starting point is 01:01:17 Chris are outstanding. You know, I had of social media here. And he does, he does more than that. He's a videographer. And he went out with me for this story. And he kind of interviewer, he videotaped me, interviewing some of the people that I was interviewing. Oh, that's exciting. And, um, and, uh, you know, I, I, I didn't, he's, he's the artistic genius, not me. Like, I didn't know how he was going to
Starting point is 01:01:35 put this together. So I didn't know when we were doing it that I was going to be in the frame, right? And so I saw kind of the preview and the only thing I was thinking about was my posture, right? The only thing. And, and I, uh, as like Nick's pointed out to me before, you know, I'm a big, like, nodder when they talk, right? The, because I think it's important nonverbal communication. But it doesn't look as good. I think when you're doing this. the interview because there's a lot you know over not the person's talking and I'm nodding again and I and because and I say posture because I always thought a good nonverbal thing is to lean in because it shows it shows that you're interesting it shows that you're interested but I think
Starting point is 01:02:13 from a video visual perspective straight chest up that's that's better right so I'm gonna say there's like a four and a half minute video and I have like pages of notes already from that video so yeah yeah uh by the way Zach speaking of your interactions with Nick what was it yesterday you had a great joke what was it well howie was pointing out that uh he wishes it was like a deli line where we take numbers instead of talking over people the old p carroll thing where you scream your question he says it's a real competitive atmosphere and he feels bad for the person who doesn't get the question in and i said it's one of the core values oh yeah competition that's right Nick appreciate a core value reference.
Starting point is 01:02:58 That was very good. You were very quick on the trigger. Yes. Yes. Okay. The Eagles have announced 14 members of their 17 player practice squad. Orrin Berks, the veteran is back. Paris Campbell, the veteran is back.
Starting point is 01:03:13 Tyrian Davis Price. Nick Gates, who we talked about, Will Greer, Zach. Do you need to leave? Are you steamed? No, I'd like Will. Big on Vine. That's his brother. Remember?
Starting point is 01:03:26 Yes. Gabe Hall. I wanted to make Joy a laugh. Yeah. You did. E.J. Jenkins, Dylan McMahon. Marcus Rosamy, Jack Saint. I believe that is the only player on this practice squad who is not with the Eagles.
Starting point is 01:03:38 Tall guy from Georgia, right? Wide receiver. Andre Sam, Brandon Smith. Your boy, Caden Stearns, Jack Stoll. So two guys. And then Lakin Vacahe. So three more spots for the Eagles to fill. I mean, Will Greer.
Starting point is 01:03:53 That's kind of funny, but good for him. Yeah. Do you want to rip them? I mean, how is it all the people that they had? They think those are all the best options for the practice. They could assign players from other teams to their practice squad, correct? I agree. That's how they got Thomas Booker.
Starting point is 01:04:06 I mean, that feels weird to me. Well, they have a few more spots. I feel like, you like this mix? I mean, I don't love it. I mean, you saw all these players all summer and none of them were good enough to make your team, and you think all of them are good enough to work with that you can. Well, some of them are there for game day fortification. I think it's actually interesting that Brett Toad is not there.
Starting point is 01:04:24 Okay. That's a good point. the expectation there. I think maybe Toth is a little bit, a little bit ticked off. I mean, isn't Paris Campbell? He feels a little misled, I think. Tov.
Starting point is 01:04:33 Okay. I'm just projecting. Like, why, you build me up as the second team, Swiss Army and I, if you have me talking to the media, and then I don't make the team and you think I'm just going to come back
Starting point is 01:04:43 with my tail between my legs and be on the practice squad. I'm a man. I can find somewhere else. Did he? We'll see. Okay. Also, the three spots left could be
Starting point is 01:04:54 because the guys aren't in town, yet, right? It could be players from other teams. Go through physicals. Yeah, these are guys who were in, you know, I can't speak, I don't know where Marcus was, Marcus Rosenmee, Jackson. Right, you need guys to actually practice. But Jack Stoll was just up to turnpike. He can get down here and he was also released earlier.
Starting point is 01:05:12 And for the reasons we talked about, they also have an earlier game. Exactly. I need guys to practice with. Okay, we got two more questions. Big picture on the defense. Will the Eagles finish top 12 in defensive DVOA last year? 29th, third of the year before. 23rd the year before that. I had him at 14th in my rankings on the ringer.com. They really are a tough one.
Starting point is 01:05:35 It's sort of a weird, like I was just going through their edge rushers yesterday. It's like, what is this group? It's a very strange group, even the depth of defensive tackle. I'm kind of bullish on the corners. I'm going to say a no here. I just think they're a mediocre group. And if you're giving me the odds more likely or less likely, I'm going to say no. What do I got left for my?
Starting point is 01:05:56 Three and four. Three and four. Okay, we'll give this a four. I'm going no seven, which is probably a little bit higher than I would like, because I do think that this is pretty within the realm of possibility, especially if Jalen Carter has the season I expect and if Bryce Huff is as good as I expect. But, you know, I think the linebackers are better than they were a year ago, but still not very good. I think the secondary is going to take some time. And I just, you know, they finished 29th last year. That's still a big way to come up. I think Zach is going yes and he has six and three left. So I'm going to say that this is his three.
Starting point is 01:06:36 Six, yes, six. No three. We are he's, we're terrible. Like early on we had him pegged and now he's a little unpredictable, Zach. I don't know. That's unpredictable over here. I'm just giving what I believe to be the case, right? I mean, I was swayed.
Starting point is 01:06:52 We've discussed on the show how I'm very important. impressionable. I thought Bo made the point when they hired Vic Fangio that I have recited and credited. I just want to make that clear that they're hiring Vic Fangio for the floor more than the ceiling. Right. And so basically it's like just don't have a bottom 10 defense. And I don't think they're going to have a bottom 10 defense. But I think it's ambitious to expect them to have a top 10 defense. I don't love the I'm still trying to figure out their defensive front relative to some past years. So I think I'd feel, I think they're going to be in the teens. Maybe if things break well and they have a soft schedule, they play bad quarterbacks, you can kind of push a little higher. But I think probably like 13, 14, 15, 16 is more realistic. Okay. Last little bit of update from the chat, Mike Y, telling us that Johan Dotson is wearing 87 and Quinnian Mitchell has taken Zach McPherson's 27.
Starting point is 01:07:46 He has a new number. There you go. Brent Selleck. I know. Malcolm Jenkins. Yeah. Naya and Lila in the chat. Really?
Starting point is 01:07:54 Naya Lila in the chat, all right. Good to see you. Lila loves the, that Miller-Lite commercial with the It Is Both. She could, we could do some, you get me some shady rays and maybe she yells that it is both. Okay. I'll get you some shady grays,
Starting point is 01:08:09 although there's a great promo code. There's a, there's a promo code for them. I mean, this guy just bragging that he's got three pairs and doesn't offer me, offers me a bottle of water. I've told it before. There's a great deal at Shady raise, right?
Starting point is 01:08:19 I know. If you order, or if you cross a certain threshold, then you have the opportunity to buy like a, mystery pair for a very cheap price. I like the idea of a mystery pair, but, you know, kind of have an odd shaped face. I don't know the likelihood of that.
Starting point is 01:08:32 Yeah, I figured this is going to be my stick in the glove compartment if I forgot to put sunglasses on for the car, need a break glass in case of emergency. Got these mystery aviators now. Yeah, not a big mystery pair guy. I mean, there was a sponsor one time that, like, I went to their site to support that. It was like a boxers thing, and, you know,
Starting point is 01:08:51 the boxer briefs, right? I'm fascinated to see where this goes. And, you know, and they have the heavily discounted thing is, you know, mystery is like surprise for your mystery, right? And so I'm like, all right, well, I want to be happy to save $20 here, right? And so I get it. I think I'm getting this great deal. And the mystery one is like, it's like flamingos or something like that. I'm like, I'm not wearing this, you know.
Starting point is 01:09:18 Hold on a second. What's so bad? about that. I mean, I'm like a solid color boxer brief guy. Like, give me, yeah. But they're like,
Starting point is 01:09:31 give me a black and public showing. Well, not yet. I'm walking around with like pink flamingo boxer briefs. I mean,
Starting point is 01:09:41 come on. God forbid, Mr. Machismo is wearing some pink flamingo boxer briefs. I mean, I'm sorry. It's just,
Starting point is 01:09:51 if I'm going to spend money on boxer briefs, It's not going to be that. I thought that this was going to be like it was a different style. But, yeah. No, no, no, you know. You know the style you're getting. I cannot believe this turned back into Mr.
Starting point is 01:10:04 Masculinity here. It's not Mr. masculinity. It's the product that you're, you know, it's like if you pay money, you want it to be a product you want to wear. Listen.
Starting point is 01:10:12 Oh, whoa. Oh, I didn't wear no flamingos over here. Oh. Is that how I sound? This is a for Miss Tony Sopranos. Wow.
Starting point is 01:10:23 Seriously. I think it's fair to not go mystery pair for draws. Yeah, I think that's a good. You think that is a much different scenario. Okay, last one. Does one of these two things happen? So this is an either or. This is, is it going to be one of these high variance tail seasons or is there
Starting point is 01:10:43 going to be something in the middle? Do the Eagles either get a first round by? And I did think that there were two first round buys in my head when I posed this question, or Nick Siriani is fired. So we're saying one of those two things happen. or it's something in the middle where they don't get a buy and Nick Siriani survives. Well, I didn't predict either of those two things to happen, but for the purpose of this exercise, I'm going to go ahead and say yes, that one of those two things happens and whatever my remaining
Starting point is 01:11:12 number is. What is the threshold? I know there's a lot of variables. If you had to say, this is the threshold for Nick Siriani to keep his job, he's got to, if you think, it's an amount of wins if you think it's a division thing a playoff thing again we know there's a lot of variables but if you just have to answer that question what would it be win a playoff game win a playoff game in the job safe you think unless unless there's weird bear i think there's also i think if they win the division they're the two or the three seed and they lose in an upset i think he probably still survives really yes i think if they're if they win 12 games and they lose as a two i think like the larger picture will still be i mean if if you're like the two or three seed and you
Starting point is 01:11:58 host a playoff game and you lose to the rams or the packers um yeah i think there's a new coach here well the packers are winning the super bowl so i was just thinking i think that based on super odds the 49ers in the line i think he probably survives that but it's i think it's either win the division or win a playoff game that would be that my my expectation for the baseline what about you just winning if you win the division division, but it's not that. I mean, how many wins are you going to need to win the division? 11? So if you go 11 and 6 and losing the first round of the playoffs, I don't know that that's going to be enough. It depends. Again, it's a hard question to answer. I'm the one who posed it.
Starting point is 01:12:39 But I think if you win like 12 or more game, if you're, if you are a, you know, you just look like a juggernaut all season long and you have something weird happen in the playoffs, I think you can keep it then. I think if you don't have a great regular season, but you go on a run and you get to then you can keep it then. But yeah, it's probably one of the, those things. Okay. Yeah, I'm with you too. And now this is my one, so I don't feel, I don't feel confident here because I'm like you, Sheel, and that I could see the season going so many different ways. I don't feel great about it, and that is different than most years. I think the Dylan McMahon decision really points me towards the negative direction.
Starting point is 01:13:14 He's back on the team, correct? Dillon McMahon. So maybe they knew what they were doing. So I'm saying yes, one, and we move on. So Zach has, I believe, the, what does he have left julia six six and i'm going to say that he says no i like that no six yeah i don't think they're gonna have a first round pie i think that's gonna be the niners or the lions uh and right now i don't think nicks can be fired i think they're gonna be a good team i think they're gonna win a playoff game and then i think they'll lose to the niners of the lions okay so this is like the word is the worst for content right just to sort of, they're good, not great, get to first or second round, run it back,
Starting point is 01:14:01 I don't want to lose their job, right? But, uh, just for content, I don't know what I'm talking about content. I mean, a coaching search is, uh, is always interesting content, but I'm not. I don't think the Berman family needs a coaching coaching, coaching search to be happening in. Look, I do my job, the matter of the duty. Yeah, I mean, I trust me, I'm getting a lot of crap at home for, uh, for missing the first week of school. Dude a calls in Brazil
Starting point is 01:14:27 One of the funniest things I've ever heard Is you saying you're not a FOMO guy Yeah Like I was talking about Social interactions Yeah yeah I was talking about social interactions Yeah I'm not like I'm not like
Starting point is 01:14:41 I've never seen anyone more crippled by the possibility of FOMO Yeah Okay I mean like 99% I don't go on it I don't go on Instagram and I'm like oh I wish I could be there Sure or like I wish I could have that like no I I'm like unless that person's covering something. I'm a big fomo guy with something they write. You know, if, you know, if, Wayne.
Starting point is 01:15:00 But you're not, you're not covetous. It's, uh, no, I feel good for people. Like, I'll give you an example. I totally agree with that. She'll wrote, I remember he wrote a great piece. Well, he's wrote a number of great pieces. But in particular, uh, Jeffrey Lurie's 25th year with the Eagles, he, he went up to Jeffrey Lurie's graduation speech and had, and I remember man.
Starting point is 01:15:19 I can't curse on the show. I was like, shoot. Mr. Blue all of a sudden. I was like, shoot, I'm annoyed. But then I texted you right away. And if you asked Tim the other day, I texted Tim right away. Great story, you know. So yeah, I feel it's very unbecoming to like poo-poo someone's work, you know.
Starting point is 01:15:40 Yeah, I totally agree with that. Yeah. I think I think you walk to walk there, no doubt about that. But I also don't think that you are, you're not an envious person, but you are. unless someone's at like Ben fans Sumeran's football camp Saturday in June
Starting point is 01:15:56 yeah we had a and you're stuck we had a family vacation this year and stuck in some beautiful island with his family we had a family vacation this year and a correspondent with Devante Smith
