Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello and happy Wednesday to all out there. Welcome into the PHLY Eagles podcast presented by our friends at Bet365. Find out why. It's never ordinary at Bet365. Use the promo code, PHLY365 at sign up. Get yourself $150 to hopefully make some more money with. All right. Practice is getting underway in South Philadelphia here momentarily.
Starting point is 00:00:24 So Rich, right off the top of the show, we are joined by the big newsman. Mr. Zach Berman live from the NovaCare Center. And it looks like the window and the shades are drawn today, Zach. Nice little sunshine coming in there. Absolutely. This is like a revelation for me. Ever since that show a month ago, I have this window open.
Starting point is 00:00:45 I'm trying to enhance the lighting for all our loyal viewers and listeners. So, Zach, you're coming off Nick Siriani's press conference today. What were the ZB takeaways? The big thing is they're not looking past the Panthers that, that would be malpractice in the NFL to enlarge one game relative to the others. This one obviously doesn't have the same juice, if you will, as certainly last week, the Ravens, the Rams before that, the commanders before that.
Starting point is 00:01:16 But this is the next game on the on the schedule. He didn't want to get into the Dallas Goddard injury situation. Nick Siriani stays far away from injuries. But I wouldn't expect to see Goddard. The Eagles made a move today. brought CJ Uzama to the 53-man roster. He was out of practice squad elevations. Usama will be the number three, or I'm sorry, the number two tight end.
Starting point is 00:01:38 On Sunday, the question is whether they go with a third tight end or they're creative there. We'll kind of see the way some of this health situation materialized just throughout the week. The fullback question came up because the Eagles added Kahari Blossom game. I hope I'm pronouncing that correctly to the practice squad yesterday. He's a veteran fullback. This is the first time the Eagles have had a designated fullback. on their roster, like practice squad, were active roster since 2016.
Starting point is 00:02:06 And before that, you have to go back to 2012. Nick Siriani said that he hasn't really had fullbacks in recent years, but they've seen the benefit of it with Van Sumeran. I don't know how Blossom game, I hope I'm pronouncing it correctly, will factor in here. I'm not the pronunciation, guys, don't look at me. Yeah, but the, you know, he is an option for the Eagles for practice squad elevation. and potentially even being like that third tight end,
Starting point is 00:02:33 even if they wanted that combo will back tight end. Zeevi, what do you make of the tight end usage so far this year? Because obviously you have Goddard, but, you know, Jack Stolley makes that great block on the Devante Smith long touchdown. But then it's like, all right, we're out of roster spots. You got to go. He's in Miami now, I believe.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Uzama, he's playing a little bit last week. Paris Campbell, not a tight end, but now he's been moved back to the practice squad. as well. I guess are they just going to play kind of roulette with these guys until they make it to the playoffs here? Certainly looks that way, Rich. And I thought they should have addressed the position
Starting point is 00:03:10 more during the offseason. They didn't. Now, Dallas, Goddard, who hasn't been healthy and really has had these injuries in recent years. This is the second injury of the year. So the depth is tested now more than it it usually is. Now, when I said that they should have addressed the position
Starting point is 00:03:25 in the offseason, pre-agency or the draft, where I give them credit is that Grand Calcutera has stepped up. Grand Calcutterra has been more by receiving threat than they've gotten from the backups at that spot, in particular Jack Stoll during the past two years. And in Calcutera's defense, too, his blocking has improved. Happy birthday, by the way to Grand Calcutera today. But, yeah, the depth behind them.
Starting point is 00:03:51 Good question. I saw both briefly before. I hope to see him later. I will ask him what he's doing for Grand Capater's birthday. But, yeah, the Eagles, the Eagles have used the practice squad creatively at that spot. They had E.J. Jenkins up for three games. They had CJJ. They had CJ Usama up for three games. They took a little bit of a risk when they exposed Jack stole the waivers. And the risk didn't pay off. The dolphins claimed him. Now, maybe the Eagles thought Jack Stoll was, was replaceable.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Clearly, that's the case. But this is a position where the Eagles lack that. Certainly, Calcutera can't get hurt. they be down to Uzama, who is not much of a receiving threat. And I would tell Eagles fans to follow all friend Delphi's coverage of the draft because this could be a Tyler Warren, you know, Coltman Loveland or I think it's Colston Loveland here from Michigan. For the Eagles, there are some good, yeah, there's some good tight ends in this draft. So, Zach, the 30,000 foot view, do you think internally they're, I mean, you're alluding to it?
Starting point is 00:04:56 Do you think they are no longer looking at Goddard as a, you know, I hate to say it, but a reliable, a reliable piece going forward. He seems to get injured every single year. You know, he's approaching the age of 30. Yeah. Do you think this, not that it's the end of, but do you think internally those discussions are already advancing? Yeah, I thought this was going to be a critical year for Goddard to stay healthy, to play
Starting point is 00:05:25 to his capabilities. And when he's on the field, you saw the big game against New Orleans. But when you're thinking about long term, absolutely, Jamie. And I said this going into the draft last year. Last year, Dallas Goddard was older than Zach Ertz was when the Eagles drafted Goddard.
Starting point is 00:05:42 He's older. He was older than Brent Sewell was when the Eagles drafted Ertz. So you think about the succession plan that the Eagles have had at the position, Goddard's older there than those two guys. the contract's getting more expensive. So I certainly see this as a position that the Eagles will look to address either in draft or via trade. Because my guess is they'll go a little less expensive there. If they can get a starter on a rookie contract, my guess is that's the path they would want to go.
Starting point is 00:06:12 And typically, you can get a good tight end in round two, round three. Zeeb, you mentioned Siriani not wanting the team to let down this week. The Panthers, I mean, early in the season, that would have been an awesome team. to play. They were getting their butts kicked pretty much every single week. It feels like over these past few weeks, they have found a little bit of something at least, not a ton of wins, but certainly more competitive football from Bryce Young. It's a nice story. Whether it was Nick or you or whoever, what have you kind of seen from that Panthers team in recent weeks? And what are the Eagles saying about it? Yeah, Nick noted that teams with new coaches can get better
Starting point is 00:06:50 as the year goes on. He referenced the 2021 Eagles. And, you know, are right that this is a team that if you caught them in week three would be better than catching them now. I mean, they gave Casey all that the chiefs could handle, right? You saw them play Tampa tough last week. So this is a team that's that's playing better. Bryce Young since he returned from the bench has been playing better. Bryce Young, by the way, little known fact. I don't know if you watch our show, you know that. He's a Philly area native. I imagine he was probably born in the same oh, really, Glennside. His answer from Glenside. Yeah, I was at a Bolandase party with when he was in his last year at Alabama,
Starting point is 00:07:27 and everybody was in the house was cheering for Bama for her. I want to know more about this Bowling Haste. I want to get to one of those. Zach, one year I'll have to get you over. It's amazing. Yeah, please. But my guess is he was born in the same hospitals
Starting point is 00:07:40 as Rich, where you... I was just about to ask you. I was born there, too. I was just about to ask you if you knew what hospital is from. For some reason, I read a story about that, and it's stuck in my head. Yeah, Lankinaw Hospital.
Starting point is 00:07:52 You do know the story. Shout out to Mike. I was not born in Lankinol Hospital. Oh, I was not born in Lagan, all year. Oh, no, okay. Yeah, now there was I. Now there was I. No, look at us.
Starting point is 00:07:59 So, because actually his birthplace is listed as, as Philadelphia. He's actually born on the other side of City Line Avenue, like just a mile away. I was born within the city limits. So my first certificate says Philadelphia, and that's probably the most personal thing I've ever said on the show, I said on the show. The headline from the show, Zach Berman, Bryce Young, not a real, Philly dad. No, but this is
Starting point is 00:08:28 a homecoming for Bryce Young, coming back to this area. Yeah. So, Zach, as you head to practice, what are you looking for today?
Starting point is 00:08:36 Are you focusing on the tight ends? What's going to be jumping out to you? Any Devante Smith there is Slay updates? What do you keep an eye on on the field today?
Starting point is 00:08:46 Yeah, that's what I'm focusing on there. It's not as much the tight end. More, Devante Smith's progress. Is he a full participant today? He was limited throughout the
Starting point is 00:08:54 week last week or you know he was he was limited Thursday Friday last last week if Dary Slays bout there if he's cleared the concussion protocol read blank and shift if he you know how how's he progressing he suffered the concussion last week or in in Sunday's game Britton Covey had the injury in in Sunday's game neck injury I believe so there's there's that I that you're monitoring Quinnion Mitchell he returned to the game but you want to see, is he a full purchase spent, or is this something that he's that he's managing? Now, a little known thing for the show is that I was scheduled to be on a 215. I came on at the top of the show because the Eagles adjusted their practice.
Starting point is 00:09:36 And the reason I bring that up is because it looks like Eagles are doing a walkthrough today as opposed to a full Wednesday practice. Typically, they do that when the team is, when players are nursing injuries or the team kind of needs a little bit of recovery. So I bring that up anecdotally as saying there are a number of guys who are managing things for the Eagles. They're coming off a physical game. So Wednesday, when I'm out there today, it's really just me taking attendance. All right.
Starting point is 00:10:02 If you want to get more of Zach Berman's writing and you're not a diehard yet, we have an offer going until 8 o'clock tonight, less than $3 a month. I shamefully spend more than that on coffee every day. But you can get access to all the best writers in town right here at PHLY with our diehard sale going on through 8 o'clock. tonight. Zach, we'll be reading you on all-ph-l-y-com. Love your hits
Starting point is 00:10:25 every single week. And Ezra wants to know, you didn't actually say what hospital. Yeah, and that's because I forget. I was either born in, in Chesney Hill Hospital
Starting point is 00:10:35 or Pennsylvania Hospital. I have to look that one on. Or maybe, yeah, I don't remember. I'll ask my mother. Quick thing, all-ph-l-y.com.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Yeah, we'll look for that story coming out. Yeah. I have a story that went up today that I just want to kind of give a quick plug to. I do a survey in the locker room every year of like a practice squad player or a scout. It's more scout team player. Someone behind the scenes was really impressive. So Danny Gray's name came up. J.O. X. Hunt's name came up. It's a fun thing because
Starting point is 00:11:06 we don't get to watch practice after training camp and players tend to know. And so I've uncovered a lot of good nuggets over the years doing this story. And even though we're plugging people to be a diehard, Rich Hoffman writes the best newsletter in the city. So make sure you should grab it at that. And that one's free. Yes. That one's free. Yes. Great stuff, as always.
Starting point is 00:11:23 We'll talk to you soon, buddy. See, ma'am. Thanks, guys. Talk to you soon. So I will say, because Zach was getting all personal, it's hilarious. I think we have to share our hospital. He doesn't know what hospital he was born. And obviously, we don't remember it, but at some point, I feel like your parents let you know which one.
Starting point is 00:11:37 So I was, uh, it's Abington Hospital. Sure. But what do they call that? Now it's Jefferson, right? It used to be. I mean, it's Abington for a long time. It was Havington for a whole time. Now I think it's Jefferson Hospital.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Abington or something like that. I think it's all over and undergone change. Where were you born, Rich? I was born at one of ZB's potential hospitals, Pennsylvania Hospital, which is not too far from where I live. Yeah. So it's both my girls were born at Pennsylvania. It's an awesome, awesome place.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Sure. But let's give a shout out to Lankano as well. I never. My sister delivered at Lankano. Yeah. And I, that's pretty. So Bryce Young and my niece and nephews. Pretty close to where I grew up.
Starting point is 00:12:20 and as ZB. Oh, it is Jefferson. Jefferson's got, they're cash rich. They're like buying up a bunch of hospitals. They got all the, but I was an avid thing. All the real estate.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Yeah. Lankanoe Hospital, great place. But as Z.B. said, not in the Philadelphia city limits. So Bryce Young, not a Philly guy. It's whatever you want to say. We got a couple Lankanall births in there.
Starting point is 00:12:42 As there's a Center City guy, SMY guy, same Jamie Avington. Woo! If you want to share your birth hospital in the chat, let him fly. I love to see that stuff. Seriously, congrats to everybody in the chat for being born at a hospital. Yeah, that's great stuff. Yeah. Look at us. All right, lots to get into today. Vinnie Curry is going to join us. Wait, wait, Philly Hills. You should know your birth hospital. I know. Zeeb is the one who doesn't know what his birth hospital. I know mine.
Starting point is 00:13:06 That's not even close. Chestnut Hill in downtown center city. Yeah, yeah, he was pretending like those were like tomato, tomato. There's a bunch of different hospitals. I don't really think those two are related. Maybe they are in the same health system. No, they're not because I believe Chestnut Hill is Temple. health. Yeah, I think they're different. Okay, at the end of the show, we'll start to go over hospital networks and all of those things. Yeah, it's great. My daughter's preschools right next to Chesson Hill Hospital. I see it every day. I didn't know those were the halls that birthed potentially Zach Berman. That's, that's great stuff. But let's take a moment here at PHLY and then we'll dive into the defense next because there's a lot of great stuff to get into with this defense. After we take a break to tell you about our friends at P.HLY. And Jamie, I am.

I wonder where the great Dr. Glatt was born. Well, maybe we'll have to ask him what hospital. I'm floored by the hospital conversation there with Zach. He really is just the best, isn't he?
Starting point is 00:16:38 But yes, I was at a Bolognaise in my neighborhood. One of my neighbors every year does an annual Bolognais party. And I was there with Bryce Young's aunt like two years ago. We just had it like two weeks ago. It's a great party. He just makes up like this enormous vat of Bolognais and feeds like 100 people. It's awesome. In Greg Young's family. How about that? Yeah. So I guess we should move on to the Eagles now.
Starting point is 00:17:01 I guess. Yeah. So, Rich, I don't want to take all the credit in the world because the guys on the field had a lot to do with it. But I think me and you are a big reason why the Eagles won on Sunday. We did. And for the first quarter there, we were watching on one TV. And I'll give you all the credit in the world. You said, this TV's not working.
Starting point is 00:17:24 We got to change it up in here. We shifted our bodies around, swung around, and started watching a different TV. And by the way, right then and there. It wasn't a great TV, the second one we started watching. No, there was a lamp in the way. We had to suffer. Watch through a lamp. You really couldn't see the upper left quadrant of the screen because of that lamp.
Starting point is 00:17:42 But we suffered. And the Eagles started. playing a lot better. And you called it, you know, you were like, look, they're going under center. This is working. This is effective. And things change right as we change TV. So if everybody wants to give a thumbs up to Rich and I for saving the game on Sunday, we'll take it. Just hit that little thumbs up in the chat there. And give a thumbs up to the TV on the left side of the bar at Garage North in Fitchdown. That TV did a great job. Spectacular. Settling things down and leading the Eagles to a victory. Obviously, I'm sure, a bunch of people who are watching.
Starting point is 00:18:15 watching right now get very superstitious during games as well. Yeah, I just wasn't feeling the TV right in front of us. It was a bad juju. Yeah, we had to change it up. It was a good call by you. You quarterbacked it. You called an audible and the Eagles turned it around. But Bo asked me a question Sunday in the post game that kind of caught me off guard. It was the first thing he asked me as soon as the game was over. And it's stuck with me now. It's Wednesday. And I'm still kind of thinking about it. He said, Jamie, is this the best Eagles defense you remember of your lifetime? And my gut reaction after I, like, picked myself up was, well, those early Jim Johnson teams were really spectacular. But I think you can make the case that this Eagles defense right now with the way they're playing and performing is right up there with, like, the 2001 Eagles as perhaps the best Eagles defense I've ever seen. And if you had told me I was saying this entering week 14 of the NFL season, Rich, I would have called you. an insane person. But there's a viable case to be made that they are legit, one of the best Eagles defenses we've seen in our adult lives.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Yeah. And I mean, I don't have the stats in front of me right now, but I believe- The 2001 defense was second overall in the NFL. And I think if you look a couple years ago, they were third in DVOA, but as we have discussed over the past few weeks, that defense was highly reliant on feasting against terrible quarterbacks.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Whenever you put somebody with the poll, taking the snaps on the other side, that person would throw for a bunch of yards, which is not the case for this crew. No, I mean, Joe Barrow and Lamar Jackson, Joe Barrow, the team is awful, but you can make the case. He's the best quarterback in the NFL this year.
Starting point is 00:19:58 And Lamar Jackson is a viable MVP candidate pretty much every year. And they put those teams through the ringer, those offenses through the ringer. So just going on vibes. And by the way, the Reggie White and Jerome Brown defenses, I was alive for maybe one or three. Maybe one or two of those, but I was a wee lad.
Starting point is 00:20:17 Certainly, yeah, I was trying to remember what hospital I was born in back then because it was pretty recently before that. So in my Eagles watching life, just going off vibes and the confidence that you had in the defense, I thought back to the early Jim Johnson defenses, specifically the ones at the vet. There was just an intimidation factor with Doc, with the two corners. that was 2001, that's probably what, that's Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor still. I believe Lido and Sheldon were drafted in 2002. If I have that correctly, I believe you are correct.
Starting point is 00:20:54 Obviously they had a monster front, right? You have Hugh Douglas, you have. So here's the defensive core more or less. Mike Caldwell, Damon Moore, Corey Simon Trott. Here's a guy I want to bring up who just was like one of the most underrated eagles of my lifetime. Carlos Emmons was on that. Carlos Evans, I love. He was a beast.
Starting point is 00:21:14 He was a beast. Carlos Emmons, Brian Dawkins, Hugh Douglas, Jeremiah Trotter, Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, Derek Burgess. I think that was the Derek Burgess bust out year where the Raiders paid him off of that. And then you had Paul Grass Manus,
Starting point is 00:21:30 Al Harris, Andy. And D's finest. And Andy Kalu, who actually does sports media now down in Houston. But yeah, that was a loaded defense. And it's crazy. to think that this defense is kind of like toe to toe because a lot of these guys are in the Eagles Hall of Fame.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Well, and you mentioned Al Harris, too. That was when, that was when the Eagles had a nickel cornerback who was like almost a luxury at that point because he goes on to Green Bay and turns into a very good starting cornerback. Remember his mink coats? No. Oh, Al Harris looked like a pimp when he was in Philly. I remember every event he got out. He would have like the big mink coat with like the fur and every and like huge boots. He was like ahead of his time.
Starting point is 00:22:13 Al Harris was swagged out, yeah. All right. Well, he was ahead of his time off the field, and he was an awesome player on the field. I wasn't paying attention to that as much. I saw him in a jacket once, and I was like, wow, that guy's awesome. So, yeah, I mean, I think this is probably the, either with that team or right behind that team. I would agree to anybody who's a little older than me, you know, I've seen the numbers on, say, the 1990 defense. Yeah, we're not really going back that far.
Starting point is 00:22:40 There's an argument that that's, I think by. DVOA, it's the best defense of all time. Yeah. And they didn't make the playoffs because... Because Buddy ignored the offense. Or something like that. Yeah. Because, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:50 Anyway, yeah, this defense is unbelievable. And I am so pumped about them, Jamie. It really is unbelievable. Like, you know, I did the all NFL show here at All City on Monday. And they were like, Sequin Barkley, huh? And I was like, you're not going to believe this. But the talk of town right now is this defense. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Like, we've all accepted Sequan's greatness as a franchise altering move. But this defense, I think, is shocking people with how good they are. And Zach Bonn, maybe at the top of the list. This is courtesy of the 33 team. Zach Bonn has played at an elite level for the birds this year. Since 2000, players to record 100 plus tackles, four plus forced fumbles, and two plus sacks through their first 12 games. Zach Thomas did it in 2005. He was a second team all pro. Gerad Mayo did it in 2012. He was a pro bowler.
Starting point is 00:23:44 Future coach, Zach. Yeah. And Shaquille Leonard, Shaq Leonard, did it in 2018, won the defensive rookie of the year and was a first team all pro, and now Zach Bonn.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Just not for the Eagles. Yeah. Yeah. Did Bo talk about the Christian Ellis interception the other day? By the way, I was watching Red Zone and Christian Ellis had a pick.
Starting point is 00:24:03 Oh. You know. He did not? Is he slacken? Wow. Is he not going to church on the weekends? I got big Chris is calling me an herb because I said swagged out. That's fine.
Starting point is 00:24:17 I deserve that. Jamie, he's been great. Zach Bonn has been like out of this world good. And part of it's a huge part of the reason that this defense has been awesome is because you were able to sign one of the best linebackers in the league for a special team or salary for the most fun. And so I want to shout out E.J. Smith because he had a piece in the inquiry. where he pointed out that according to over the cap.com, the Eagles rank 28th in positional spending on defense this season. And they have, again, I think they're third or fourth right now in the league if you take the entire season.
Starting point is 00:24:54 But since the by week, which I don't think is an arbitrary endpoint because number one, it's the buy, you can self-scout all those things. And number two, you put Cooper DeGine in there as the nickelback. And I'd also add, too, that Vig Fangio defenses clearly. they take the first month to just feel feel themselves out and see what's going to work. So basically the top defense in the league for the 28th highest spending.
Starting point is 00:25:19 And Jamie, it's funny when we talk about... And they're the youngest, and that goes into the spending. A lot of these guys are emerging players on rookie deals still. We often talk about how rookie quarterbacks are a cheat code because they're making only so much money, even if they are first-round picks, you were able to allocate those resources for at least a few years until they get paid $50 million if they're good to the rest of the roster. So, you know, if you have a rookie quarterback who's balling out, those two or three years when he is still cheap, that's when the strike.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Because that's when you can fill out the roster. And then you're going to have to make some decisions once you have to pay. Yeah, like the chiefs, I think got two Super Bowls when Mahomes was still on his. If I'm not mistaken, yeah. And it's a big reason why the Eagles won was Carson Wentz was still on his. It's the opposite. Their defense is now. Yeah, cheap. Their defense is the rookie quarterback for now.
Starting point is 00:26:12 And, you know, I know in a couple of years, they're obviously going to have to pay Jalen Carter a whole bunch of money. Oh, three years. Yeah. Three years down the line, they're going to have to pay your boy, Q, he's going to get a ton of money unless. Rightfully so. Unless he falls off a clip.
Starting point is 00:26:24 Another four-yard performance on Sunday. Yeah, and that's the thing when you think about this defense. Like, we knew Jalen Carter was trending towards being great. I'm in all of watching some of the videos that Fran has put out. And by the way, if you want to get access to Fran's film, breaks downs. They're all on all p.hly.com. Great sale going on through eight o'clock tonight, less than $3 a month. I'm telling you it's worth it. You'll love it here. We're all crazy people together. But the videos I've seen from Baldy and Fran and Dan Orlovsky and other, you know,
Starting point is 00:26:55 these film grinders out there on Jalen Carter, this dude has potential to be like, you know, excluding Reggie White, the greatest defensive player in Eagles history. Like, He's got a chance to be one of the all-time Eagle greats. This guy is a freak, Rich. Like, he's fast. He was setting edges on Lamar Jackson. He's great, man. He's a defensive tackle setting edges on Lamar Jackson.
Starting point is 00:27:25 It's incredible what this guy has done this year. How about the play where he knifed through the defense on the jet sweep to, I think it was eight flowers? And he just completely four yards in the backfield. Unbelievable. And they were not quick enough to block him. you know again he's playing all of these snaps which is kind of crazy he's playing they they really need to start blowing out some of these teams sunday's a great chance right you're playing the panthers and i think a couple people in the chat have pointed out yes the panthers are playing better football
Starting point is 00:27:53 but if the eagles play at the level that we have seen over the past two months that should be a game that is not close in the fourth quarter no and that should be a game where even vangio says all right jalen and take a break. Yeah, I think Zach and Bo touched it on Monday about the usage rate of Jalen Carter. Look, he's looked as good in the fourth quarter as he has in the first quarter. It's unbelievable. He deserves so much credit. He does deserve a ton of credit.
Starting point is 00:28:18 But the question becomes, when can you get them some rest? And unfortunately, you're in a battle with the Lions here for the one seat and home field advantage. So you're right, like this Sunday, it would be great to, you know, jump the Panthers early. be able to get Sequin Barclay and Jalen Carter a little bit of a blow in the fourth quarter. It's important. It would be nice if neither of those guys play in the fourth quarter. Absolutely. Because you're up three, four touchdowns, whatever it is.
Starting point is 00:28:44 Let Kenny Gainwell run the game out. Let Morrow-Jomo rush the passer, whatever it is. The one thing about Carter, too, Jamie, I feel like over the past few weeks because he started a little bit slow. Obviously, he completely wrecked that Saints game. That was a tremendous performance. But he wasn't quite as consistent as I was looking. four week to week earlier in the year.
Starting point is 00:29:04 But I would say over these past five or six weeks, you can't really even look at the box score to see the type of impact he's having. Like this guy has gravity. Fran has used that term before, but it's a basketball term that we use that, you know, the Warriors offense is always so great because people are so terrified of Steph Curry. They're guarding him basically over half court until other guys get layups. I mean, Jalen Carter last week, he got doubled 25. of the 43 past...
Starting point is 00:29:34 Second highest of the year, I think. Of those pass rushing opportunities. And then you have a guy like Milton Williams, who's like another guy in the Warriors, he gets five pressures on 26 pass rushing opportunities. Did you see the video of his dad? Yeah, it seems like he's got a fun family, man. He was doing like the Q thing with the big wheel.
Starting point is 00:29:52 It was pretty awesome to see. But you're right. I think, you know, a Nolan Smith right now who's really emerging and coming on, you know... They're getting one-on-ones. Take Jalen Carter out to a... Steakhouse when you get your new contract because he makes everybody on that D-lines life easier. And not to say they didn't miss Brandon Graham, but I was really impressed with the defensive line last
Starting point is 00:30:12 week to go out there and win a lot of these one-on-one battles with three and four-man fronts was really impressive. It's something I didn't expect this year. So Big Chris mentioned Jordan Davis. Good to see him produce. I love, this doesn't happen to every series, but I'm starting to call this sequence the Jordan Davis. where he stuffs a run on first down, and then he sprints off the field
Starting point is 00:30:37 because they want to get a better pass. It's true in the game for him. Now, obviously, that's a little bit of a bummer, considering Jordan Davis was such a high draft pick. But on a defense that is rolling right now, he is at least doing the job that he was supposed to be good at right away. And I think Fran put this out, or maybe it was somebody else,
Starting point is 00:30:55 on the plays where he was on the field for rushing downs, I think he limited the Ravens. I want to say to like 3.1 or 3.2. He's doing a great job. Yards per carry. And you saw it in the first quarter when we were watching. The Ravens couldn't get their run game going. And they have Derek Henry and Lamar Jackson.
Starting point is 00:31:13 So huge kudos to Uncle Vic and the defense this year. It's really a joy to watch. I would like to credit Fran too because when the defense... We're giving Fran way too much love. Fran has halitosis and a body odor and he smells around the office. I'm just kidding. He's like the nicest guy in the world and he smells great. go ahead.
Starting point is 00:31:32 I just wanted to bring him down a peg or two. You know, we've thrown like eight bouquets of roses as well. That's fair. Yeah. I'm just kidding, Fran. Your breath smells delightful. Man, you smelled Fran a lot. So, no, it's true.
Starting point is 00:31:46 We need to bring him down. But he did point out early in the season when the defense was struggling. And I think this is what makes Fran good. Is that like sometimes when the defense stinks, there are positive aspects of it. And there are things that might show up a few weeks down the line that are positive trends. Now, I don't think we could have predicted that it would show up on the best defense in the
Starting point is 00:32:08 league for two months, but he was saying that Jordan Davis on these rundowns was actually probably playing better than we thought. And we know Jordan Davis struggled last year. We know there were concerns about his conditioning and his ability to play. Look, I think he's played pretty well. Another thing that Fran was very ahead on, though, and Baldi actually made this point on because of show is that they are so good in their past coverage in passing off receivers. And the play that really stood out to me, James, was.
Starting point is 00:32:40 Was it McCollum? McCollum, yeah. And Tony Romo was on it right away when we were watching the game. And Romo did a good job of it. Romo did do a good job. By the way, Romo's having a little bit. I think he's having a resurgent. Maybe Tom Brady's awfulness is really propping Romo up.
Starting point is 00:32:53 And you're like, wait a second. This guy's not that bad. No, I agree with you. Romo the last, the previous two years was not very good. He came out strong year one, and then he kind of got a little, I don't know, he wore on you. I don't know if he was in the gym this offseason, if he was just grinding more film, if he thought he could get by just on, you know, kind of his playing experience. And maybe that kind of wore off.
Starting point is 00:33:15 Like that first year, obviously you still know a lot of the trends that are going on in the NFL. That's why he was able to call out a lot of the plays. Well, you actually have to do the work four and five years down line because what you were, what you were doing. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, it's not a good sign that Brady's not very good because he was playing much more recently than Romo was. But he did point out that McCollum on that play, you know, who I think was only on the field for maybe two or three plays prior to that play. Like he was pretty fresh on the field, if I'm not mistaken, wasn't he?
Starting point is 00:33:46 Or did that happen earlier in the game with Reed? I'm trying to remember the timeline on that play. That was late, right? That was fourth quarter. Yeah. Did he come in? It was fourth quarter because he made that play. It was the fourth downstop when they went for it.
Starting point is 00:33:57 So he must have been on the field for longer than that in a pile. apologies. And you can just see Cooper DeGine. They're in a cover three of sorts and McCollum is playing safety and he comes down as as the whole defender and Cooper DeGine points right at him and McCollum is all over that route to Zay Flowers. Now, you know, maybe he could have caught the pick, but I think it goes to show the big difference from last season. If Zion McCollum was in the game at the end of last year, guys were running into each other. They were not executing their coverages at all. And it's completely night and day this year to the point where your third safety comes
Starting point is 00:34:34 in for a guy who plays pretty much every snap and read Blankenship. And they don't miss a beat. Yeah. It's awesome. Yeah. It really is a lot of fun. So Vinnie Curry is going to be joining us here in a minute to talk about this defense. I want to ask you about Saquan Barkley and a question right after we take a break to tell

It is an online raffle for a chance to win a Yeti cooler and a Ketti, sorry, a, said Yeti and then I said Ketty, but I meant a Kelly Green, Sequin, Barkley, Jersey, all proceeds from the raffle.

One more time, that is Cajam Construction.com slash flooring.
Starting point is 00:38:02 Yeah, that is awesome. Anything that benefits the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is ACEs. That is good stuff by Cajam there. All right, Rich. Now, Saconne Barkley, he's good at football. He's quite elusive out there. He is still on pace to break Eric Dirk. Dickerson's all-time rushing record.
Starting point is 00:38:22 And while I think Josh Allen is going to get the MVP, because he had to go out there in a snow game and do stuff that look like backyard football before a national audience on Monday, it was very rude of them, if Sequin breaks the record, man, I mean, I guess he's offensive player of the year. How much are you going to weigh if I gave you Nick Siriani's cap and his workload and usage rate versus obtaining an NFL all-time record? What do you do? If like, you know, the Panthers could be a great example where you give him the fourth quarter off.
Starting point is 00:38:57 I give him the fourth quarter off. Because he's, first off. It's an NFL all-time record. It is. But it would also be over 17 games as well. Eric Dickerson did not have that. That is true. Look, it would be really cool.
Starting point is 00:39:11 And I would love for Sequan to break the record. First up, he's unfortunately not going to win MVP. But here's what every fan should do when he scores a touchdown. You should chant MVP as loud as possible because he has certainly earned the right to be in that discussion. You know, it's funny, like during basketball games, there are some bad players that get MVP chance. Sure. No, this is legit. This dude deserves MVP chance.
Starting point is 00:39:33 I don't think he's going to win just because it seems like the award goes to quarterbacks every year. And I do understand that. I don't really have a ton of energy to tell you with that. And I think you can make the case if you remove Josh Allen from the bills and remove Sequin Barkley for the Eagles that the Eagles are in a business. better spot. Sure, but that's just the nature of the position. Sure. The quarterback touches the ball and every play, right? But he has certainly earned the right for us to keep discussing him in, in that MVP conversation every week. And really just like, let the guy know how amazing he's been because he's been. Do you want to see the record? I would love to see it.
Starting point is 00:40:09 And he might break it by just breaking off like 250-yard runs per game in the first half of these games. I know he's been, Jim, the thing is, though, he's been so dynamic in the fourth quarter in He's the closer, as Vinny calls him. He's the closer and this Eagles' offensive line is the closer. I always bring up this term, the competitive stamina that they have, they are just going to keep punching you. And even if the other team, like the Ravens last week, is pumped up for it and they have a decent run defense and they're willing to match the Eagles physicality. At some point in the fourth quarter, they're going to get free. And it's like boxing.
Starting point is 00:40:45 The Eagles just deliver so many body blows to the point. probably Friday or Monday. At some point, they let go of the road. They stop punching or whatever. It might not be the case in these next few games. Obviously, Pittsburgh will be a tough one. Yeah. But against Carolina, I feel like he's going to have to break off some of these
Starting point is 00:41:02 runs earlier in the game because they're going to be up by so much. They're not going to need him in the fourth quarter. So it would be awesome, but it's not really something I'm that hung up on. Okay. Yeah, part of me is like, well, just throw them out there for one more chance in the fourth quarter if you're up like three touchdowns on Sunday, see if he can break one. Because I think he's averaging 7.8 yards of carry in the fourth quarter, which is just insane.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Now, we're going to be joined by Vinny here momentarily. But the Sex Panthers are coming to town this weekend, Rich. Bryce Young. Julia likes that one. I'm proud of myself. That's a Dave Canales joke. Yeah. Julia's got a good giggle.
Starting point is 00:41:41 So anytime I can make your laugh, it's a big win for me. The Sex Panthers are coming to town. and Bryce Young is playing a better quarterback. I don't think this is, I think the Eagles are above a look-ahead game. I do, I'm giving Nick Siriani that credit and this coaching staff and this team. I think they're above a look-ahead game.
Starting point is 00:42:05 Do you buy that? I do. And there was also a game a few weeks ago that they played in Dallas where Lane Johnson was like, I was more focused on the Washington game earlier. And yes, they were a little slow, in the first half, but they ended up beating the crap out of it. Right? So
Starting point is 00:42:20 yeah, he, uh, I think they are above a look at game. One, for mentality, because they've just taken care of business so frequently against bad teams, but also their talent level and their style of play is just so overwhelming that even if they are not at their best, I
Starting point is 00:42:36 feel like they have a lot of room for error. Have you caught any of the off-field interviews from first round pick, Xavier Leggett, uh, with them yet? No. Oh, man they please tell he has like talking about canales no i wish i wish somebody would spill the tea on canales i can't imagine taking that guy seriously um he is like as deep backroads country as you can get and he has like the thickest southern accent you've ever heard nothing wrong with that and he was talking about
Starting point is 00:43:05 thanksgiving and about how they were going to eat raccoons and other things that their cousins caught and they've done like i guess panther social media has been doing a lot with him this year he's pretty Like, you should check out some of the clips on them. But, yeah, the Panthers don't worry me. Maybe this is a problem, but they don't worry me one little tiny iota. Because ultimately they want to lose, right? Like, their best case scenario is they compete in a game and lose. I have enjoyed the Brace Young resurgence because I just felt bad for the guy.
Starting point is 00:43:35 I did feel bad for him earlier in the year. He is tiny. He's tiny, and I think that's going to be. He's born in Lankinaw. He's not even a Philly guy. I mean, he's basically the same size he was when he was born at Lankinol. Yeah. Something about the hospital.
Starting point is 00:43:48 You just don't grow after that. All right. So I am going to, I was planning. I saw the comment in the chat. Somebody said, I bet Vinny knows what hospital he was born at. It was already on my mind to ask Vinny what hospital he was born at. Does Vinny know what hospital he was born at? I'm going to say yes.
Starting point is 00:44:03 I would have to think 90% of people know, right? Maybe 10% don't in the Zach Berman world. I guess I wouldn't be stunned if Vinny doesn't know just because ZB has kind of opened up my horizons to people not knowing that. But if you're going to make me pick one of the. the other, I'd say yes. Yes, he knows. It's probably like Neptune, you know, Memorial or something like that. Any Vinny yet there, Julie?
Starting point is 00:44:23 Yeah, we got them. All right. We'll find out here momentarily. People who are on pins and needle. Does Vinnie know the hospital he was born at? Vinnie, what's up, man? What's up, fellas? How y'all doing today?
Starting point is 00:44:33 Good. All right, the pressing question, which I didn't think I'd be asking you 45 minutes ago. Do you know what hospital you were born at? Yeah. What is it? Judge, Joe, you sure, medical. And that's true. Okay.
Starting point is 00:44:48 Look at that. Zach doesn't know, Vinnie. And unlike us and you, he is not sure at where he was born. So we appreciate it. I don't know what time it was, though. I don't know any of that stuff either. I know I was born on my due date, which less than I think 1% of people are. Look at you.
Starting point is 00:45:04 Yeah. Always on time. No big deal. Nice. Nice. Your parents planned that well. Well, that's good hospital knowledge by you, Vinny. Vinnie, we were just glowing about this defense all week.
Starting point is 00:45:17 And the more and more I see of Jalen Carter, Vinny, the more and more I think this dude is going to be up in the rafters enshrined one day in Eagles' lore. Have you seen more of the film breakdowns this week on him? And, I mean, just glow about Jalen Carter a little bit. Bro, I told you, I've been saying it all season. Once they figure out that he's really getting double team and other guys start getting free to do is a menace, bro. You know, he's one of those, he's one of those guys
Starting point is 00:45:47 you're like, hawk smash, you know? He's just, God-Tam wrecked stuff and leave, bro. It's crazy that the tenacity and the attitude he brings to the defense, I'd be like, that's the part that had me like, oh, oh, I love to play with somebody like that, you know what I mean? Because he fits the room and he fits the mold. He's with, you know, the Eagles base,
Starting point is 00:46:07 the defensive line on in the last 15, 20 years, you know, it's just great to see man he's really really got potential to be one of the one of the best yeah vini you played with some greats and and obviously fletch and i think he crossed past with gerald mccoy if i'm not mistaken does he compare to anybody or vita vea even does he compare to anybody else you've seen or is he his own kind of de-tackle animal no he's get he kind of gives me to the flesh vibe you know flesh didn't take no shit i mean there's no stuff you know he was that you know one word was set him off.
Starting point is 00:46:42 You got to come down, you know what I mean? And then it's so funny, it's a clip out there where Flesh will go off, but he's not mic'd up, but then BG will go off and he try to calm BG down. Like, yo, my man, you started him. Vinnie, the Jalen Carter performance the other day with all of the uncalled holds. I know that a lot of times the people say that you could call holding on every single play. But as somebody who played the position and, you know, was on the wrong side of those holds, Is that super frustrating as a defensive player that, you know, that you can get away with that?
Starting point is 00:47:17 A hundred percent is super frustrating. Think about it. Even if you call two of those holdings, right? Now it's in the office-aligned mind, which will allow everybody just to go eat at an attack even more. You know, that guy, Jen and Carter dominated. Even with the holding, he was two a second or a half a second right behind. And I'm like, damn, you know, the only thing they can do now is rip it the man jersey, you know. And that's what brings me to this Panther game.
Starting point is 00:47:48 I think this Panther game and the Eagles game is going to be one of those, yeah, there they go. You know, ain't no, they don't care about your record. You come down to, you know, South Philly, you're going to be a problem, you know. And I think, I even think, you know, Brown Mitchell will get his interception this week. I think this is one of those games. All right. I love that. One more question on that, Vinnie, because Andy Reed's mustache and the chat brought this up.
Starting point is 00:48:17 Does it help if you sell it? Like, I guess that's the one thing because obviously if you're Jalen Carter, you want to, you want to finish the play, right? You want to get to the quarterback and still do all those things. Does it help if you kind of sell it? You throw your hands up. It feels like that that should, if that doesn't work, that completely screws you, right? Because you're out of the play completely.
Starting point is 00:48:36 But I don't know, man. It was just really annoying to watch him continue. get by that right guard, get held, and the right guard didn't get called for one hold the entire game. It was crazy. That's like a double-headed sword. Yeah. You know, can you imagine being on TV, every other play like this?
Starting point is 00:48:56 It looked like, yo, my man. You look like, you don't. Damn if you do. Is he crying? Is he not crying? But, you know, I would think you're one of those, A.O. Ref, come on, man, watch the hold then. Then that next play, when he does it, then I will sell it.
Starting point is 00:49:08 You know, the way it depends on how you. you set it up. Makes sense. Vinnie, Zach Bonn is doing things that I think even the most pro-optimistic Zach Bonn signing people didn't think was possible. How crucial is he to resigning and keeping with the Eagles here as they're building one of these young core? I think they're the youngest per snap defense in the league and Zach Bonn is one of the shining stars. How critical is he to retaining?
Starting point is 00:49:37 Oh, he's super critical. You know, if you follow his career, he finally got the opportunity, you know, to play multiple steps, defensive steps, and be a starter in his league. And I think he has maximized his opportunity and his only right to fulfill him with, you know, to resign him and to have that defense in front of him
Starting point is 00:50:04 and a nice, you know, Tully right next to him and the Kobe Dean is amazing. You can just see, like, remember we was talking about, I know, I always got to, you know, go to the point of reference. Beginning of the season, we didn't really see too much energy from the defense. This now they are rolling. They are jelling together. They are understanding what's that state.
Starting point is 00:50:28 You know, they smell blood in the water. Yeah. So one thing, I think the defense is pretty much established at all levels. You've seen for two months, a bunch of these guys are just playing at a super high level. The one guy I am curious about because he's a new addition here, Jailix Hunt played 50% of the snaps this week. And obviously he's going to continue to play more because they really are only rotating three edge rushers right now. Last week against Baltimore, that's a tough first game to be thrown in there, right? Obviously, you're playing against the super elusive quarterback.
Starting point is 00:51:00 Now that he's going to play some worse offenses, a bunch of games at home, Vinny, what are you looking for him in the next few? games as, you know, he's going to be counted on to be a part of this defense. What a perfect game to get your cherry pop. You know, think about that. He goes, plays 50% of the snaps, get a half his sack, apply pressure all night, and did his job. Did his job well and played hard. You know, to have guys like that, you know, that goes your hat off, tip off to the front office, the coaching staff, and to player development.
Starting point is 00:51:34 You know, we don't really see player development. around his national football league anymore. That right there show you that the Eagles is going to draft their guys, and that's what you call a player development. He fit right in. 50% of the snaps, half a stack, he was all over him.
Starting point is 00:51:49 So when people throw around the term player development, Vinnie, where your teeth really cut the most in terms of that? Is it a vet taking you under the wing? Is it mostly done in the film room? Is it a coach on the field? What do you think is most critical in that? in that early stage. Oh, well, so, you know, the Eagles, they, you know, they dedicate their time to young guys
Starting point is 00:52:14 like that. So, you know, a vet take you under the wing and then, you know, you have a mini practice after the practice, you know, and then you've got to come in and watch some more film or go over some things. And it could be your film. It could be what you did early in 907 or one-on-one pass rush or in team. Or you might be watching somebody who they think is similar to you that even came before you or that's in the scheme now because you got to find your niche in this game.
Starting point is 00:52:41 Who do you, who would you compare Jayla's hunt to? Like if you were saying guys you've played with or gone up against and seen in your career, is there anybody you would say, hey, watch this film? Oh, man. He's kind of got like a JPP build, right? Nah, see, but I'm going. Yeah, so he does have a JPP build. But if you watch his game, the long arm, you know, just the way he's linking.
Starting point is 00:53:06 I'm going to go kind of ball with. that's the perfect guy to go with. You know, you know, and some of the past rush moves, I see some flashes out there. You could definitely tell in player development who's helping out. Well, yeah. I mean, Connor Barwin, he's doing a lot of that stuff. He's the head of the department, I think, yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:23 I think that's super interesting, too, because football, you're right. You don't hear about player development, like the way you would hear about it, baseball or basketball or other sports. So to be able to get somebody like Jailix Hunt, you know, up to speed faster. And obviously, like, I listen to Vic Fangio every week, and he's like, well, it's practice, right? That is what has gotten him to this level this quickly. So that's huge, man, for sure. Yeah, man, I just think they're doing a great job over there.
Starting point is 00:53:50 You know, and like I said, the Eagles are big on their guys and player development. They are big on that. So, Vin, if I had to ask you, what is there five games remaining, I think? Is that question? Sounds right, yeah. Yeah, five games remaining. Who leads the Eagles and sacks in the final five. games of the season.
Starting point is 00:54:11 You know who I'm going to say. Big three. Nolan Smith. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think, I think,
Starting point is 00:54:19 I think Nolan Smith leads the Eagles in the last final games. Who does he remind you of? Because he's fast. Bro. You know what, man?
Starting point is 00:54:35 I would say, there's so many guys to choose from, man. It's, is, because he, I don't,
Starting point is 00:54:49 you know, he got so much potential to, like, he got so much the potential to be one of the greats as well, you know, and I think, you know, he's developing super nice. But, um. Somebody in the chat says Jason Taylor. Oh, wow. Yeah, that's that bill.
Starting point is 00:55:05 That's that bill. I was going to, yeah, yeah, that's that bill. But, uh, I think to support your point, Vinnie, I mean, Nolan Smith's going to play the most snaps at defensive end. Like, it's clear that they have kind of that 60, 70 percent for Josh sweat. But Nolan Smith is going to. going to eat up a lot of these snaps. And I mean, he's a young guy. He seems like he's going to be able to do it. He's got a lot of energy. So he's going to get
Starting point is 00:55:28 a lot of opportunities. And if Jalen Carter is pushing the pocket and making quarterbacks kind of move around there, it feels like, yeah, he could definitely lead the team in sacks for the last week. When you look at the office of tackles these last five games, I just think, you know, that helps my odds and big is a little bit. Real time Prince Bluces, Trent Cole for Nolan Smith. I like that. Yeah. Yeah, I like that.
Starting point is 00:55:59 I like that. I like that. The Panthers are coming in town. Bryce Young's playing a little bit better football than he was before the benching. What were your thoughts on that, by the way? A young kid getting back in line. I felt horrible for that kid. Can we talk about player developing all the time?
Starting point is 00:56:17 You know, that kid, I, listen, if we wasn't doing media, can we name the receivers? over there, you know, like, De Olman's got rid of the field and Xavier liked it and that's all I got rid of so many key guys that help him like, dude, come on, man. And like to come back and still to overcome that
Starting point is 00:56:40 adversity, the way he's playing is great. But guess what? He never faced his defense yet. All right, what's your prediction on Sunday, Vinny? So far, I've been like a one point off, man. Hopefully I get it right this time. You know, I'll be like one point off. So I'm a goal.
Starting point is 00:56:55 I'ma go 3110 who beat down I'm a lot of I think be honest with you listen this is going to be
Starting point is 00:57:10 actually like a like a the statement game kind of drop the mic type of type of game because listen the way the Eagles are playing they ain't
Starting point is 00:57:17 they ain't illegal they own right now wow that's great stuff Vinnie you'll be here on Sunday as we're doing post game for the Panthers and hopefully a beat down
Starting point is 00:57:28 always great to catch up with you on Wednesday, buddy, and we'll see you on Sunday. All right, man. Thank you guys for having me. I see you guys this weekend. See, Vinnie. There he is. And for everybody watching on TV, whether it be Samsung or Zomo or Xfinity or Roku,
Starting point is 00:57:42 we thank you. If you want to continue on with the show, you can head to all p.l.y.com. Vinny's the best. I love the weight room, too, with all the underdog stuff in the background. But yes, Bryce Young did kind of feel bad for him. Panthers are better, rich. They're better, but they're, but they're, But they're not good enough.
Starting point is 00:58:01 You would think they're not good enough to win this. No. So, yeah, I mean, they gave Kansas City and Tampa Bay a really good game. Kansas City is the... I'm so sick of them, man. Can we call them the most fraudulent 11-1 team ever? The problem is to they can point back to last year or two, when they had a middling record by their standards, at least, and they had to play a couple of road games in the
Starting point is 00:58:23 playoffs, and they turned it on, and obviously they have the best coach in the league, they have the best quarterback in the league. It's so annoying. Some of these wins, it's just like the Eagles last year. The Raiders. I was watching it on Friday, Black Friday game, which, what are your thoughts on that? I think it's a little unnecessary. The Black Friday game? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:42 Like, I mean, I like football, you know. I enjoyed watching it. I watched it. We were all, you know, drinking beers watching it, but I was just like, this is so unnecessary. The Raiders, at the end of the game, I'm sitting there with my cousin. The NFL unnecessary. Yeah. My cousin's like, like, just kick it on third down.
Starting point is 00:58:58 Just kick it. And I was like, you know what? You're right. Yeah. And then, you know, the play goes off and we were just like, that was the most Raiders thing I've ever seen in my life. Anyway. I'm so annoyed. It's the breaking bad.
Starting point is 00:59:11 They cannot keep getting away with this. It's that every year. Yeah, it's every week. And I mean, I would really hope at some point it's going to catch up to them. Like, I don't think the team is going to go completely off the rails like last year's Eagles. They certainly have a better infrastructure with the with the coach and the quarterback. like, but at some point, this needs to get punished. The football gods, enough.
Starting point is 00:59:31 If you exist, stop it. They're barely beat the Raiders. Jamie, I bet against them every week. They were 14 point favorites against the Raiders last week. That's insane. And I was still mad at the end of the game, even though I cashed the bet extremely easily, because I was like, no, I want them to lose. They're, they're very much.
Starting point is 00:59:48 I know. I'm with you. One other point I wanted to make about the defense real quick is because Dayton is made an awesome point on Twitter this. Oh, I saw this. This was an excellent point. The Eagles are three. 31st in Blitzrate this year. And that goes to show how great Vic Banjio
Starting point is 01:00:03 and this defense has been because they're 31st in Blitzrate and everybody is Gaga over this defense right now. Jamie, they are like Josh Swett who is a pass rusher. I'm a big sweaty guy. Is dropping back into past coverage and it's working. Whereas last year, every time Hassan Reddick dropped back into past coverage, it was like a disaster
Starting point is 01:00:25 and we were like, what are you doing? Matt Patricia, this is so stupid. And now when Vic Fangio does it, it's like, hell yeah, this works every time. Anyway, by the way,
Starting point is 01:00:34 if you're in a son rhetoric right now, probably regretting a lot, huh? Just the way how everything went and you're watching the team that you grew up, you know, probably rooting for,
Starting point is 01:00:47 like having fun. And Sequin Barclays, the talk of the league and the defense is the top, you know, three defense in the NFL, he's probably why, and he lost money on top of it.
Starting point is 01:00:57 Like he's probably full of regrets. I kind of feel bad for him right now. I mean, it's the first time I've thought about him in 14 weeks. Well, the only thing I remembered about him was, the day we were talking about him, I think in like late September
Starting point is 01:01:11 and one of our commenters said, yeah, he's just at every Haddon Heights football game on the sidelines right now. So that's what he did in September, and now he's playing for a high school football team in East Rutherford, New Jersey. That's tough. Rogers is so bad, by the way.
Starting point is 01:01:24 Oh, he's, by the way, have you seen the Netflix? Netflix trailer. All right. Trust Tree. Are you going to watch it? Because I totally am. I'm going to hate watch it, but I'm going to watch it.
Starting point is 01:01:35 We talked about this with the Jake Paul fight a few weeks ago. And I watched Mike Tyson's ass, and I'm still a porn bot on Blue Sky because of it. Yes. And for anybody who wants to know what that means, I'm not going to get into it. But it's not as bad as it sounded. I shared Mike Tyson's ass, not my own. I don't know if I'm going to watch this. I don't.
Starting point is 01:01:55 No? I want to see him trip balls on Iowa. I don't know. It looks like they're kind of including it. It's going to be so like just like if he could fart into a sniffter glass and just take a whiff of it like that he loves the smell of his own blend. Yes he does. Yes, he does. Like it is going to be so pompous and arrogant and I'm going to watch it. And I hate that I'm going to watch it, but I'm going to watch it. I'm not looking down on you for watching it, but I don't think I have the energy to watch that. I will just watch him toss picks on a how about the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the
Starting point is 01:02:27 two-play sequence. I really rude for his downfall, so I feel like I need to inform myself. I don't know. The two-play sequence on Sunday where he misses Garrett Wilson wide open in the end zone, and it was like a 15-yard throw. It was not a deep ball. Missed him. I've never,
Starting point is 01:02:40 you rarely see guys so wide open the end zone. He misses him, and then Leonard Williams on the next play, like a 90-yard pick six. Wow. That was awesome. Who was drafted by the Giants? Or the Jets.
Starting point is 01:02:53 The Jets. And then he went to the Giants. And Julian Love made a picking that game. also from the Jets. SMY guy probably has it right. He says, I'm going to let everyone else watch it and just enjoy the funny clips online.
Starting point is 01:03:05 That helps. That's probably the way to go about it. That's the way a lot of people also watch the Heart Knocks giants. Thank you HBO for capturing that moment. That is really just like... It's never going to happen again, fortunately. It should be... You know how sometimes they make pieces of...
Starting point is 01:03:23 They make movies and they call it like a piece of... truly significant art. That's what that HBO hard knocks series needs to be because we're never getting that again. Yeah, that is great. And one last thing I wanted to share with you. I saw this tweet yesterday courtesy of Jeff Kerr and it kind of like, it wowed me. And it was just simply Howie Roseman's last draft picks in the first and second round dating back to 2020. And when you have a defense that's this stellar and this young and this good, you know, the players have a lot to do with it. And just listen to this run how he's on with his front office in the NFL draft in the first and second round specifically.
Starting point is 01:04:03 And if Jalick Hunt becomes a player, like, you know, it's going to get better. Quignan Mitchell, Cooper de Gene, A plus. Pretty good. Last year, Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith. Looking really good. I mean. Looking like another A plus. The first one was already looking really good.
Starting point is 01:04:18 And then the second one looks like he's been above average starter now. So 2022. Two, Jordan Davis, Cam Juergens. I mean, pretty good. Right? It's unbelievable. None of these guys are not useful. 2021, Devante Smith and Landon Dickerson.
Starting point is 01:04:36 Awesome. And then 2020, Jalen Riggert. Jalen Hertz in the second round. Pretty good. Cubey Factor. I mean, Howie Roseman is on, I tweeted out that this is like an early 2000s Will Farrell comedy run with his draft success here.
Starting point is 01:04:51 This man is on a heater in the, The draft. Like old school an anchorman back to back. Oh, yeah. And throwing a little tropic thunder. I mean, he was just doing them all back then. Incredible. I missed that time.
Starting point is 01:05:04 Yeah. There's no real great, like, comedic movies anymore. No. Really kind of sad. I mean, Judd Apatow had his run. He carried the torch for a little while. What do we have any more? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:05:15 Is there any? I'm sure there's got to be something. Let us know. There's any good comedies in there. Yeah, let us know. Maybe the story of Dave Canales. will be put on Netflix and we can all laugh like bastards at that. It's dark comedy.

Starting point is 01:06:20 Think about gifting it this holiday season. And it's the best deal we've ever done. And no, kid, Cowboys, go Cowboys. You have to be a BOT account. No, but no Cowboys fan is saying, go Cowboys. What an embarrassment of a franchise. And you see, Jerry Jones, apparently he's going to buy the Tottenham Hotspur. His yacht was over in London yesterday.
Starting point is 01:06:38 So now he's going to take his bad ownership over to the EPO, potentially. That would be impressive. Yeah, I mean, the Cowboys should want to lose right now. Yeah, you should lose. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jamie, I will come to your house and make Bolognaise. I mean, I do love Bolognais. I have a frozen thing in the freezer right now
Starting point is 01:06:56 from the last time I made it. Good old Bolognais. All right, for Julia, for Rich, I'm Jamie. Thanks for hanging out with us today. Have a great rest of the Wednesday, everyone. We'll see you soon.
